Money saving tips for Kate

Since Kate keeps telling us she "needs" Dancing With the Stars to support the kids and can't do it on a nurse's salary (even though hundreds of middle class American families have eight kids or more, and somehow manage), we thought we'd share a few tips with her to help a nursing salary go further.

  • Downsize. Sell and move. You live in a million-dollar mansion. The mortgage and operating costs alone are going to always be an uphill battle.
  • Stop changing your hair every six weeks. Stop getting tans and manicures.
  • Stop traveling so much. Airfare and hotels and eating out add up.
  • Let Steve go. You don't need a bodyguard. And get rid of four of your five nannies. Better yet, get rid of them all and involve your relatives and friends again, such as Beth and Aunt Jodi, to help babysit.
  • Pull the kids out of private school. They don't need it, especially at this age.
  • Don't buy organic food. There's no conclusive evidence it's really that much better. Grow a vegetable garden in the yard. It's organic, and a fun activity with the kids.
  • Save your money. What happened to the money from the 100+ episodes you made? Where is it? Is it in your hair, nails and tan? There is absolutely no reason you should not be set for life after all the reality TV you made.

We're not buying it, Kate. For the record, we're not buying it.

I think Kate can do whatever she wants as long as the kids are not involved. She should just stop using her "kids" as an excuse to pursue her dreams.

I totally agree. Lots of moms do DWTS, they just don't pretend it's for the kids. They say things like they love to dance or they've always wanted to do this or this is a dream of mine.

It's the pretending this is akin to flipping burgers to pay the bills that makes me sick. This is all about Kate's vanity and she is not fooling anyone pretending it isn't. Just ADMIT this is a dream and she would get a lot more respect.

First of all, Kate doesn't have a mortgage. In her divorce docs, it was revealed that the house was purchased for them, by TLC and then gifted to them. Unless she has taken a mortgage out on the property to get cash, she doesn't have a mortgage payment anymore. The van was a gift too so the only car payment she would have would be for the Toyota Land Cruiser, property tax on that house and then the chef, the nannies, the gardener and the pool company.

Other than that, the money she is spending, aside from her recent paycheck from DWTS is the kids money. None of that was Kate and Jons money. I wonder if the kids will itemize on their tax returns this year and claim Jon and Kate as dependants.

Anonymous,

Can you post a link to somewhere showing the divorce docs stating that TLC paid for the house? I don't recall that anywhere and I've been following their divorce since day one.

According to records they still have a $9,000 a month mortgage that is not paid off.

I find it very hard to believe that someone with Kate Gosselin's fame/notoriety would ever be able to work as a nurse again. That just doesn't seem realistic to me. I really can't imagine once you are so well known that you'd be able to work in anything but the entertainment business.

Except, Kate isn't an entertainer...she's a mom.

Yes, right on itsaboutthekids some of todays google media is saying she is a bonafide celebrity now that she has been on DWTS.

I did not know she danced yet?

This world of media seems to whirl more and more each day.

"I find it very hard to believe that someone with Kate Gosselin's fame/notoriety would ever be able to work as a nurse again. That just doesn't seem realistic to me."

Why not? You think she'll get mobbed at a small PA medical center? She won't be treated fairly? Celebrities are quickly gone and forgotten. Maybe she would receive some extra attention at first, but people's memories are short. I don't see why she couldn't do this if she actually committed to it.

Just as a comparable example, a lot of celebrities have gone back to college after being famous. Often young actors decide they want that college experience and want to be "normal". No one makes a big deal about it. You get over it.

IATK said...

I know one of Kate's mantra's is "we can't go back".

I think what she's really saying is, "I won't go back".

Kate is as much of a celebrity as "Joe the Plumber". Both of them have been on television, talk shows and tidbits in media reports but neither has anything to offer, other than the fact that a camera filmed their "no talent".

Joe the Plumber wants to run for public office because of his brush with the lens. Kate wants to be a big screen star because of her brush with the lens. Their sell by date has been exceeded by their insatiable search for recognition and fame. Neither will be in the public eye a year from now unless E News does a story about where they are, much like they've done with Gary Coleman, Eve Plumb and the rest of the has beens that turned out to be reality freak show stars in an ever changing world.

I have to agree with this statement. After watching her place a vomitous boy on a cold tile floor to avoid laundry, ignore an impacted boy in order to pick out the perfect free beds, dump her injured daughter on a nanny so she wouldn't miss the filming of family game night and so many more instances of poor nurturing skills...I sure wouldn't hire her.

I posted this on the "Kate, Stop Pretending..." thread but I'll put it here too since this is the most current.

Chelsea Handler Blog: Kate Gosselin, Diva?

There have been several reports that Kate Gosselin is acting like a "diva" on the set of Dancing With the Stars. Kate recently fired back that those rumors are "unfounded" and "ridiculous," which are two words that one could also use to describe both her hair and the fact that she's even on television. Kate claims that "if you meet me…I'm just like moms everywhere working."

First of all, if the "meet me" part is a request, I respectfully decline.
Second, you can't claim that you're like other moms. Most moms have real jobs. In fact, there's only one other type of mom that dances around in tacky costumes and gets paid for it. They're usually named after a car, and it rhymes with "Jack Tripper," but without the first part.

Chelsea Handler a bastion of good taste, class and sobriety. I will live by her words.

Actually, even if TLC or DWTS or whoever is paying for a variety of Kate's expenses--such as travel, food, clothes, etc. (even though we have no proof what they do or do not pay for), the IRS is probably going to consider that income. Income doesn't have to be just cold hard cash. You can pay someone in kind, with things like this. So in a simple hypothetical, if she makes 100k in cash from TLC in a year and 100k in freebies, the IRS will want her to report 200k in INCOME.

So even though it seems free, it's really not. Downsize. Or demand cash payment, not manicures.

In the Gosselin's defense--gasp!--they did buy the Sprinter van themselves. The had asked for a donation of a van on their website (before they had the TV show they had a website with a "prayer list")--but the used van that someone had donated wasn't the right style or color for the Gosselins (Kate?). They did make kind of a big deal that they actually bought the van themselves--a Reading newspaper used to have a blogger who wrote about the G's and covered their story (the blog was not flattering to the G's, BTW--and this was before they had a TV show and were only locally "famous".)
Before the tups were even born, the Gosselins were looking for handouts and crying poor--even though they lived in a nice middle-class neighborhood in a smallish but liveable house and had Jon's father (the dentist) helping them. Now, Kate has continued her ploy of crying poor even though she has made a LOT of money and had been given many freebies.

If I'm not mistaken, they accepted the used van and used it as a trade-in on the van they wanted (a new van).

Tony & Kate took the kids, although in the pix I saw it was only the tup girls to the Taylor Swift concert. While generally this wouldn't upset me, the show started at 7 pm with two opening acts Kelli Pickler & Gloriana.

What time did Taylor start singing? With school so far away and full day what time did the tups get up in the morning? And Tony posted a tweet pix, they obviously were in a private box so far away they probably watched it on TV in the box. Also, I hope Mom parked some jackets as warm as it was when they were leaving the little tutu dresses would be quite chilly on the way home.

The pix are on Gossip Center but since some blogs are reporting problems with that site I won't post the link.

By the way in the media spin that team Kate churned out after all the criticism she got for doing Dancing With the Stars, one of the annoymous sources said that Kate had to work because she had a mortgage, gosh darn it.

If Kate DOESN'T have a mortgage? More lies from Team Kate.

Hi all: I havn't posted in a while but wanted to pop in and tell you that if you watched the DR. cool Sex tape of fake Kate dancing, then you need to be sure to see the outtakes from that. After I watched the video, on the right side there was an option to see the outtakes. It was almost as funny as the video it self. It shows the guy playing Kate getting ready for the video and the director tells him to " tuck his dick in somemore", I would say let it all hang out and would look more like ballsy Kate!

Wasn't sure where to post this so......
Today I spent a lovely day having lunch and taking my 87 year old wheelchair bound mom to a quilt show.
While pushing her around I introduced her to sewing friends as the person who started me sewing. She felt like a queen and I felt so honored to be her daughter.
While Mom's short term memory is declining, the fact that she can still remember who I am is a blessing.
What memories is Kate going to have as she finally grows up? I thank God every day Mom is here. What does Kate do?

Hi my9cats,

You're not alone with the older parent. Kate's are getting older, too. My mother passed away 19 yrs. ago...a heart attack at 67. Totally unexpected. My mom lived on the same street as me, 3 houses up, on the other side. We, all, saw her everyday. I wonder how Kate will feel when one of her parents die? Will that be a wake up call for her.

My father is 88 and in the middle stages of dementia. He lives in a very nice nursing home. A little over a year ago, my dad had a stroke. Before that, he had lived an independent life. He owned a condo, drove his car, had a girlfriend, and was the treasurer for his favorite senior center. He went on trips. Now, he still gets around remarkedly well, talks fine, can read, do math, but, he never knows where he is. On a good day, he knows my name. On a bad day, I'm Willy's (my husband) wife. I'm living it, too. I understand. Will Kate?
