Happy birthday, McCaughey septuplets

"It can be nerve-wracking .... I never liked it, all these cameras following you around everywhere." ~ Nathan McCaughey

The famous seven-pack turn sweet 16 today, and now that they're nearly adults they're sharing how they feel about their unique childhoods. In birthday interviews both filmed and for print media, the kids say they usually like being a septuplet because it's fun and they're never alone. However a few of the children pointed out some of the negatives of being a high profile multiple. Notably Nathan, who said he never liked being filmed.

Nathan McCaughey
The McCaughleys still live in the same house that was given to them when the kids were babies, drive the same van, Dad Kenny has his same job at a metal coating plant, and they use pay-as-you-go cell phones. They are still deeply religious and still credit God for the good outcome. They have remained largely out of the public eye, with the exception of a few update specials.

The frequency of the update specials petered out as the kids got older, but Dateline came back two years ago to check in. Many of the kids were noticeably uncomfortable with the cameras even then. The family says they were horrified by what happened to Jon and Kate Plus 8, but Kenny says he doesn't fault families for choosing to go on reality T.V. because of the money. However he says he's glad they never had any serious offers, because it might have been hard to turn it down. "I’m so grateful we didn’t have to make that decision.” (Hey Kenny, don't sell yourself short.)

The family says they rarely look at old newspaper clippings or television appearances from when the kids were younger.

Happy birthday, kids. And well done, Mom and Dad.

Jon and girlfriend Liz cast on Vh1's reality show 'Couples Therapy'

The show, which also features other reality has-beens like Taylor Armstrong and Farrah Abraham, premieres this January. Here's Vh1's press release:

VH1 HEADS BACK TO THE THERAPIST COUCH WITH A FOURTH SEASON OF VH1 COUPLES THERAPY
Dr. Jenn Berman is Back as Therapist and Host for the Series
LOS ANGELES, CA – Relationships are hard enough, but imagine the pressure of having your hook ups, “bumps” on the relationship road and breakups as fodder for the tabloids. More and more, it seems couples whose matters of the heart play out in the public eye are calling it quits and throwing in the towel on their relationships. Why is it so tough for these couples to stay together? Looking to shed light on the issue, VH1 will examine the complicated and often misunderstood world of high-profile relationships with VH1 Couples Therapy.
In season 4 of Couples Therapy we will get a look at four-and-a half couples who are facing very complicated issues never before discussed on the show made even more complicated when half of one couple is a no-show. Taylor Armstrong (RHoBH) & John Bluher, Farrah Abraham (Teen Mom), Ghostface Killah (Rapper) & Kelsey Nykole, Whitney Mixter (The Real L Word) & Sara Bettencourt (The Real L Word) and Jon Gosselin (Jon & Kate + Eight) & Liz Janetta will all take a seat on Dr. Jenn Berman’s couch. “VH1 Couples Therapy” is set to premiere January, 2014 with 8, one-hour episodes on VH1.
From the producers of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, VH1 Couples Therapy is the first reality show to examine firsthand the real life experiences of a group of buzzed-about couples. For some of these couples, living under constant scrutiny from the media and fans makes it increasingly hard for them to stay together and VH1 wants to see why they can’t seem to go the distance. These four-and-a-half couples, at a crossroads in their relationships, will join together for over 2 weeks as they undergo intensive relationship therapy. Under the guidance of Dr. Jenn Berman, a nationally renowned relationship therapist, the couples will participate in group and individual therapy along with relationship exercises out in the “real world” to see if they can rekindle the love they used to have for one another — or if it’s simply time for them to move on.

'In Loving Memory of Hope': How the tables were turned on Kate by a scammer

Terminal cancer. Kind celebrities who reached out with love and support. A song sung as a dying wish. Nightline's year-long investigation about a sophisticated scam that preyed mostly on celebrities' emotions, not dollars, turned up none other than Kate Gosselin as a victim. Brad Paisley, John Henson, Natalie Grant, and others were also contacted by the scammer, who sometimes pretended a woman was ill and sometimes pretended a little girl was ill.

Kate spoke with Nightline via e-mail, and says she was reaching out in 2008 to a woman named Hope who said she was a cancer patient. She spoke to the woman on the phone for several months, and when she found out Hope had "died" she dedicated an episode of Jon and Kate to her (the episode 'Gosselins Go Skiing and the dedication to Hope at the end can be viewed on Youtube). Kate had no idea she was scammed until Nightline told her recently.

The savvier Natalie Grant, however, suspected something was off right away, but then felt guilty for questioning it. "I actually was mad at myself for even having those thoughts because I thought, 'Natalie, how could you be thinking this? This is a little girl who's on her deathbed, taking her final breaths, how could you even be questioning this?'" Other celebs also suspected something was wrong as the scam was going on, after talking to "Hope" on the phone or asking for details about her treatment.

To see the rest of this fascinating mystery and find out who was behind it all, read the full account here or catch Nightline late tonight (early this morning in some areas, check local listings.)

Kate on cover of inTouch

It's been awhile since Kate got the cover of this magazine or any tabloid, but the headlines this time around are scathing. InTouch says plastic surgery has made her desperate for cash, and that fame destroyed her. "Kate's Sad New Life," the headline proclaims. Read more in the November 6 issue.

Jon's flight diverted to Phoenix after LAX shootings

The tragic shootings today at Los Angeles International Airport ending up affecting one of the Gosselins, according to tweets.

Courtesy of @eojsemaj

Jon apparently hopped a U.S. Airways flight from the East Coast this morning to Los Angeles. While Jon was airborne, the shootings occurred at LAX at about 9 a.m. local time, and the airport was shut down. According to another passenger on Jon's flight, who tweeted two photos of Jon, the plane was diverted to Phoenix. Jon sat in coach, and the passenger described him as "cool as sh&t."

As of press time LAX has reopened most terminals, but hundreds of flights are cancelled or delayed. The person tweeting the updates said he had not heard when they will be able to take off again and get into L.A. At one point they reboarded the plane in Phoenix, sat on the runway for 45 minutes, and then deplaned again.  Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins was also on the ill-fated flight.
