Dancing With the Stars Season Premiere--3/22/10

11 new stars and their Pro Dancer partners perform the Cha Cha or Viennese Waltz in their first night of competition.

All comments as to the first episode should be confined to this thread, and the upcoming recap thread. Thanks!

Update 12:30 p.m. PST, Kate and Tony backstage:

Update 6 p.m. PST: Kate and Tony caught rehearsing on the set. Heard Billy Joel's "She's Always a Woman" playing in the background. Looks like that's their first song. Irony much? The lyrics say: "And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free. Yeah she steals like a thief"

Update 3/23/10: The season premiere pulled in a record 24 million viewers, the best numbers for ABC in this time slot in 10 years. Which proves Americans just can't turn away from a good train wreck.

Why is the number to vote for Kate Gosselin being promoted on this blog?

I was wondering the exact same thing!

I hope you won't mind this half off-topic post that furthers both your ends and mine. It's short cause I have to fit it on Twitter.

Don't reward ABC for casting Kate Gosselin on DancingWithTheStars: DVR it, watch Chuck LIVE at 8. You can vote online till noon Tuesday

at abc's DWTS website. for free and all!

PS - thank you, Admin. I like that there are subject headers here for news articles rather than having to dig thru a long Open Thread.
I haven't been around Kate-land in a while. Facebook ate my life. But with DWTS I expect to squeeze her in a bit more - though perhaps not Monday nights as I watch Chuck, read and comment of Chuck reviews at Sepinwall, hang out with my brother and watch Big Bang.

Personally I'd consider voting for Kate a couple of times simply in order to make her stay a couple weeks - working her rear off and having to stand before judges. I need to see Kate being judged not perfect. And she needs to learn what hard work actually is. If Donny Osmond who has been working since age 5 says DWTS is killer hard work - it has to be. And I want Kate to experience it. (plus her kids can always use time off from her. I remember really loving it when my father had two jobs)

I clicked on tweeting with the stars and there's a list (you probably already know this)

Is Kate the only one who doesn't Twitter?

Thank you Pamela. I try to keep the blog as organized as possible. Long "open discussion" threads with 300 posts I don't find effective or enjoyable.

This isn't a Kate hate blog, I printed the number in the interest of fairness. This blog is a truth blog. The truth is, if you want to, you can vote for Kate using that number.

To the Admin: Sorry but IMO that explanation of yours doesn't pass the smell test.

Unless this is a DWTS Kate Gosselin Fan Blog why not publish the 1-800 Vote Numbers for ALL the contestants? Seems to me that would be the FAIR and EQUITABLE thing to do, don't you agree?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

It's a site about Kate and the Gosselisn, not the other contestants. I trust they have their own blogs and can print their own numbers. It's not a DWTS blog, then that would be appropriate to print them all.

MSNBC handicaps the dancers:

Prediction: Kate's image, in all honesty, has nowhere to go but up. It doesn't matter how she dances — she's working from an enormous deficit of public goodwill, something like what Heather Mills faced when she appeared in the midst of bad publicity about her divorce from Paul McCartney.

Gosselin has had a lot of opportunities to win America over with her personality, and it hasn't happened yet. Without that advantage, she's an extreme longshot to win — even paired with the able Tony Dovolani — though curiosity and high name recognition will likely keep her afloat for a while.

Likelihood of winning: 2 percent

To the Admin:

So you admit this isn't a DWTS blog yet insist on providing a number to vote for one of the contestants (Kate Gosselin) under the guise of being a "truth blog"?

How stupid do you think your readers are?

keeping it real- The admin here has the right to run her blog anyway she wants. If you don't agree to it, move on. It's not her responsibility to make everyone happy.

Oh please. It's in all these blogs interests to keep the Khate info going. It kind of makes you wonder who's really behind them, No Khate, no blog. The ones for and against Khate.

The anti Khate sites get more traffic that the pro sites which keep people talking. This is what keeps her in the spotlight.
No such thing as bad publicity.

Yeah, here's the number to keep her on DWTS so we can keep our blogs going. There's no way she'd ever get my vote.

To the Admin:

Get over yourself! The truth doesn't have to bend over for anyone least of all some celebrity-dancing-queen-wannabe. Take a stand or not but don't play your readers for fools.

I'm just pretending that phone number isn't there. lol

How entertaining.

The haters are turning on each other.

I do applaud the administrator's fair play.

I think admin put the number there just for you, anonymous @4:20. Wouldn't want you to miss voting while you're messing around over here away from your own playground. LOL you're too cute...

How sweet of you to be so concerned about me.

I'm on the West Coast feed so haven't seen it yet, but in the rehearsal video Kate is dancing to She's Always a Woman. Check out the lyrics!

BThis I got from GWOP:
Bruno Tony "looked like he was pushing around a shopping cart." Normally I am a merit oriented person but in this case since DWTS has evolved into a popularity contest I voted for Buzz. Brains, courage, moxie.

PatK said...

I know it's only the first night, but I was NOT impressed with Kate's performance.

Her face while being judged said it all, didn't it? She was NOT a happy camper.

Loved it.

Lauren said...

This is what I hate about living on the West Coast. Argh. I've got another 15 minutes to go before DWTS is on. The comments on other blogs are hilarious.

Anonymous said...

You guys could have watched it online. Quality won't be as good, but you get to see it when it starts on the East.

Anonymous said...

Anon@4:20 please take your game elsewhere. Don't you already have enough problems? The Admin can do as she pleases, not to please you.

That aside, it's almost tempting to vote for Kate to be there another week just to get dissed by the judges again. That was awesome. (Somewhere Jon is cheering!)

Anonymous said...

Where online pls? I can't find it. Are u sure it's live. I'm also on the west coast.

Anonymous said...

Yeah somewhere Jon is cheering. Hmmm, where is that? I heard he moved to Utah to live with some girl and her parents.

You better get that number off the blog or they will hound you online, twitter and at your place of work. You know how ugly these haters are.

Anonymous said...

I think it's fun to watch Kate make as much a fool of herself as Jon did!

For next week, just go to: http://channelsurfing.net/watch-abc.html

I thought it was funny when she gave that judge "the eye" for the shopping cart comment.

Tony called her out for her attitude during that pre-dance interview segment. Ha ha ha ha ha!!! I feel bad for Tony, I hope he's getting paid extra for having to dance with Kate.

It was a painful, awkward performance. Kate needs to point her toes. Did anyone see the part when she lifted her knee for Tony to catch and her big old air craft carrier foot just sort of flops in the wind.

Anonymous said...

Kate's boobies were hitched up too high. She was awkward and from the back she looked boxy. Yes, very much like a shopping cart. And Tony, poor Tony, he did his best to get through it and pull the load being the professional that he is. He seemed embarrassed for them both in front of the judges, like he was hiding a goiter he'd rather not have any one see. I hope they're paying him well. Maybe he will be the one to feign an injury.

I saw that Wonky eye shift into overdrive when Katezilla was being judged. "How DARE anyone offer criticism to this self absorbed leech".

Her wonky eye began to boil, her head looked like it was going to spin in a 360 degree fashion and a secret voice was going to utter, "Go to the light".

This one trick pony once again, had to utter her tired line, "My kids" "working mom" "Moms everywhere" etc etc etc.......

Her feet were so huge, the shoe manager on the set, told her if they get any bigger, she's going to have to wear the boxes.

Her boobs were pushed up so high they looked like discharged airbags in an Audi A8 protecting her veneers, her extensions and her wonky eye, just in case she fell to the floor. I'm just hoping she's wearing her jock strap, everytime she throws her leg around Tony. Otherwise, it's going to hurt down there.
