I read this article earlier and everyone is clamoring that it's a staged photo op. Well, OF COURSE IT IS! This family's entire life is a staged photo op. Jon, Kate, the kids...all of them. That IS their reality and, IMO, that is the problem with raising kids this way. They think this is the "real" world. Heaven help them when they get older and have to reassess their entire existence.

This is a cheap shot. I do not agree with most of what Kate does but does Jon have to play this way? He's lost my support the past few weeks.

This was once again filmed by INFphoto, the TLC approved photographers. They are the only ones he is allowed to speak to.

And the photo of Kate at the mall was not recent. She donated (sold) the car seats and that was not the mall parking lot.

Has anyone heard any recent updates from Rep. Murt's office?

The picture of him reading was obviously staged. No one stands in an aisle facing outward with a book held up in the air like that so they can read. Most people, take a book off the shelf, while still facing that same shelf, page through the book while the cover is facing the ground. Did you notice how old beady eyes looked up at the camera like he just noticed them? The camera light would have been distraction enough as it is to have not known they were there. This whole family is comprised of actors who couldn't have even made it in the industry if we were still watching silent screens.

Well, looks like a slow news day for the Gosselin's.

I was looking at the comments to that Radaronline article. The same 5 people comment over ~ n ~ over. Well, that is a strategy for showing the world Gosselin's get comments but....kinda sad commentary about how Gosselin PR is handled.

Oh right! Like there probably isn't 500 copies laying around the Konpound for Kart to give out as gifts and tips. This is the only way she's going to get anyone to read this bomb. This is a staged photo op for sure. They just keep digging themselves deeper and deeper. Sorry Gosselins, the public is on to your phony staged crap. Time to go away.

Doesn't look like "the mall" to me. Looks like Kate is picking up the kids from the bus stop. They all have backpacks on and are loading into the van..

Does anybody know when Jon's "original" contract with TLC expired? You know, the one that they sued him for breaking? I thought it was supposed to have been "up" this spring. I wonder if in fact he filed the custody suit in order to get them to offer him something in exchange for allowing filming the kids? He seems to be "playing nice" for now and the timing all seems very suspicious.
If the contract had expired, he'd be free now to speak his mind and pursue other gigs if any were offered. If, however, there were no other offers on the horizon and Jon's TLC contract and money were about to run out, I could see him making a deal to film the kids in exchange for a development contract/more money from TLC--Jon would just have to drop the custody suit and do some staged photo ops.
By the way--that pic of Kate at the mall must have been taken a few days ago when she was wearing that same top.

Seriously, Jon has to go to a store to read a book about his kids.

That is just so wrong!!!

Exactly. Who are these kids going to identify with? Their window on reality is so distorted by now. They must look at their classmates and wonder why there's no cameras in their faces, maybe even envy them that there isn't. Why can't Jon and Kate see that they're screwing up their lives? Oh yeah....selling kids is easy money. How could I forget.

Kate refuses to give Jon a copy. I bet the 8 kids also don't have a copy either. Even though it was "written" for them.

Well, their birthday is just a few days away.

Kate didn't write that book. If she sent it to the editors the way she claims to have sent it, with a note demanding that not one word is to be changed I can't believe there were no words misspelled like they are on her twitter profile.

The only thing Kate writes is checks.

Clearly you have forgotten about the Post-It notes issuing orders and spouting Scripture verses that were posted all over the house.

How did I determine this film clip was a fake-out? By the way Jon's eyes were moving across the pages. It wasn't reading. It wasn't even scanning. It was like a little kid who's supposed to be doing his reading assignment and is just pretending because he doesn't want to do it.

I think it's going to blow up in the collective faces of INF and TLC. Jon announced he was not buying the book. What a terrific pitchman! "Hey, all you have to do is go to a bookstore, stand in the aisle and thumb through the book and then put it back on the shelf! There's nothing in there worth your money, folks!"

I'm betting Zondervan was not involved in this little film clip.

Good for Jon. He made his point.

VERY time Kate opens her mouth it's to put down Jon.

"Aden, when I leave, I'll always be back", NOT like your good for nothing father...

"Tony, you're NOT a quiter, everyones QUITS on me" like that good for nothing ex-husband...on and on and on....

"I had to do EVERYTHING"...."I had ALL the responsibility", blahblahblah.

Jon got the kids up in the morning, dressed them, serve them food, painted the house, bathed them, built furniture, cracked crab legs, etc etc.

Kate had laundry help, she rarely cooked, had a ghostwritter for her two books...had a full time nurse for months if not years....had 100s of volunteers or order around...I mean give me a break!
Jon got tired of taking orders from Queen Bee.

Wasn't it Mady that called her mother Queen Bee?

Don't forget Jon delived 'Queen Bee' her coffee in the morning and got the twins fed and off to school...

It's about time. I just was on Amazon and saw that Al Walentis's book "The Secret Life of Jon and Kate" is listed as coming soon. Now, there's a bestseller, for sure.

Had Kart been even a little bit reasonable, Jon would still be her lap dog.

I was at my Target, they finally got her book (4 copies). Had the salesperson check stock most of the stores got between 4 to 8 copies (8 were at downtown Boston). At my store it was stuck on a regular shelf, none in the new releases section. I turned around the four copies in my store.

They get one when they fork over the $$$. It's probably coming out of their 1/8 of 2% paychecks.

Can we say pre-order?! Can't wait to read it and help it reach higher than #11 on the NYT book list!

Just.me: I totally agree. Jon is sooooo laidback, that if Kate had lightened up even a little bit, he never would have left her on his own. The problem, I believe, is she didn't want him anymore because he longer fit the image she had of who HER husband should be. He was no longer worthy and didn't fit the image of what she thought she deserved in a man. She was becoming a !STAR! and Jon was still Jon.

LifeinOH said...

Anon - Yes, Mady called her "The Queen Bee".

That was a very shocking episode imo. I was shocked that TLC actually broadcast that tape. It was Kate at her worst and Mady succinctly summed it all up: (paraphrasing) "She sits in the chair all day and tells everyone what to do. She thinks she's The Queen Bee or something."

I think the timing of this book about Jon and Kate will only bring new ratings highs for Kate's shows, which will, in turn, keep the children in the spotlight longer. I wish it wasn't coming out right now.

Marie, I've considered this possibility as well and I've gone back and forth. Certainly it will mean more exposure, debate and media fodder in the short run. But the children are already being filmed for the new show, with or without a book, so those wheels are already turning. I don't know that there is a GOOD time for the release but even if there is a temporary swell of viewers, how long will enough people want to watch the "Kate and the kids take a vacation" series or "Kate interacting with everyday people"? This is the same Kate who, for whatever her reasons, wanted nothing to do with her everyday neighbors.

Viewers are not going to watch over the long term unless there's something interesting to watch. I agree, die-hard fans can hardly wait to see those cute little faces on TV again. Before flipping on the remote, I wish they would consider the hardships and public exposure these children had to endure in order to provide them with their weekly entertainment. Behind those cute little faces are very REAL little beings with very REAL big feelings. Using kids this way has become way too acceptable IMO.

You definitely have to weigh the pros and cons. Hopefully this book will confirm or deny a lot of speculation and raise the level of awareness of just how demanding this life in front of cameras has been for the children. But I guess we'll see...

I'm not trying to defend Jon here but there is the possibility that if he is still under contract and this is a TLC approved photographer, this was a TLC directed photo op just to stir up controversy over the book. If that's the case, would Jon have had a choice? I don't know, just throwing that out there. Based on past actions by TLC, this family doesn't sneeze without being told which brand of tissue to use to blow their nose.
