Chronology of Collin hiding his face

We want to document this for future reference. Baby Collin's fight to get his privacy back after his parents sold it to the highest bidder:

1. The first time Collin was seen hiding his face was sometime the week of May 3rd, 2010, when Kate picked him up from the bus stop. He hid his face behind his jacket from the bus all the way to the car. None of the kids appear to be laughing or joking with him as if he were playing.

2. A few days after that, on his birthday 5/10/10, he was seen draping his arm across his face at the bus stop with Jon. The other children were busy crawling all over their daddy, and were not seen interacting with him.

3. Later that night, out to supper with Kate on 5/10/10, he covered his face with his hands for the entire walk there.

Another interesting note, sometime in April at the bus stop, Kate was caught covering Collin's mouth with her hand at the bus stop. No one was laughing or smiling. Hm, maybe he was saying he didn't want to be famous anymore. And Collin, the "stubborn" one, speaks his own mind and runs his own agenda, according to his parents.

4. On the premiere episode of Kate Plus 8, which aired 6/6/10, Collin told a crew member: “It’s good that the paparazzi went away.”

5. On Father's Day June 20, 2010, Paparazzi took video of Collin hiding his face.

6. On 6/26/10 on a trip to the store with Kate, Collin hid his face again.

Usually from radaronline.com

Of course Colin is playing hide and seek, why would anyone think he was hiding from the paps ? ha... that's a sheeple excuse.
I'm sure Katie is none too pleased with his actions since he's the one who she said questions her authority.
Way to go Colin...keep up the good work. Question everything you can !!!

GoPoshGo said...

Bottom line: the bus stop needs to be OFF LIMITS to the paps. This is disgusting. What 6-year-old needs a camera in his or her face while going to and from school?? Just more evidence of Kate's evil shrewness -- she'll put her need to be in the headlines above her kids' need for privacy.

@Marnie: does it really matter where the photos are from? They all seem to convey one message: He doesn't want to be photographed. When will a responsible adult step in and consider the kids' needs?????

TVSnark said...

Was Colin the one who was puking in Florida?

The other Marnie said...

It does matter where they came from. We shouldn't be looking at pap photos if this kid doesn't want his pic taken. If Radar gets hits on these photos, the paps won't stop. If someone the Administrator knows snapped the pics, she should ask them to stop. Either way, this post, with the pics, to me, is exploitation. Without the pics, it's a good post. MHO.

Does anybody agree with me? I can't believe there isn't even a question in your mind that using his pic, when he doesn't want it, is wrong?

The other Marnie said...

Puking in Florida? A little privacy, please. Let's not discuss it.

It's pretty obvious to me that he's been told to ignore the paps when they are up close and talking to the family, and that's his little boy way of doing it. No I'm not if favor of the kids being filmed, but I think a big deal is being made out of this whole Colin thing.

soozbc said...

I agree totally that the kids should be free from the intrusive lens of the paps.

However, I will play devil's advocate and suggest two things:
1. In the pic of Collin with Jon at the bus stop: Could the angle of the picture be showing Collin with his right arm/hand on Jon's left arm - as if he's trying to grab hold of Jon like the rest of the kids? It may be that it just looks like he's hiding his face but it could be the angle of the photo.

2. The pic of Collin walking to the restaurant in the rain. Could it be that he has his hands over his face to shield his face from rain drops? Of course the other kids aren't doing it but maybe Collin doesn't like rain in his face.

Again, I'm not a sheeple, I agree the kids have lost their privacy and any semblance of a normal childhood/family life. And both their parents should be ashamed at what they have done and are continuing to do to these poor kids.

I just thought to keep the conversation honest that I'd give these alternate points of view.

PatK said...

The parents of these kids opened the can of worms by putting them in the public eye in the first place.

WE are not supposed to look at these pics?? Gimme a break.

AnneG said...

To The other Marnie re Privacy for puking - please ask Kate to give her child the privacy he needs. He apparently puked in public while on the clock for Discovery/TLC.

TVSnark said...

Oh please. It'll probably be on the show. kate will complain how difficult is was to have a sick child. She'll go on and on about the sacrifice she made.

The kids don't have privacy and never will.

disgusted in pa said...

Yes, it would be nice if the Gosselin kids had a little privacy--but thanks to their Mom and Dad and the contract that was signed with TLC--there is little chance of that. Kate has already allowed filming of her children puking in past episodes (Joel on the laundry room floor episode and Aaiden puking into the kitchen trash can).
I don't know why Colin hides his face--but I have seen Kate discuss the "P people" with her kids on past episodes--and hiding with the boys on the battleship, complaining about the paps. It made no sense to me, because the TLC film crew was there with cameras in their faces--what difference did it make that paps were taking pics behind a fence from a distance?
Why even "scare" the kids about the "P-people?"--Kate has allowed her children to be filmed in the most private of moments, anyway.
No one is more responsible for exploiting those childre than Katie Irene Kreider Gosselin and Jonathan Gosselin. They signed the contracts--money came before their children's privacy.

Not quite sure where to post this, so I'll put it here. I've followed this blog from the beginning but never posted. Wonderful blog. I guess I'm actually posting this to Kelly. I love your posts & wholeheartily agree with your thoughts on this whole debacle. I've taken the day off from work so that I will be able to attend the protest on the 26th. My 17 year-old daughter will be joining me. I'm just wondering if through the admin, that we could exchange e-mail addys. I'd like to be able to meet up at the protest if possible. I live just outside of Harrisburg, kinda wish it were here! LOL But that's ok, this is worth driving a bit of a distance for! My heart breaks for those babies.. Hope to hear from you Kelly.

Apparently Kate is okay with us discussing her children's puking and other illnesses, as she keeps allowing it to be filmed. Aaden puked in an episode, as did Joel was put in the laundry room, the girls had double ear infections on an episode, and of course the infamous constipation Collin had.

When a child is limping, you might think he has a pebble in his shoe. The second time you see him limping, you might still think, well, maybe he hasn't gotten the pebble out yet.But the third and fourth time? A reasonable person would conclude the child has injured his leg and someone should help him.

It's ridiculous at this point to explain away Collin covering his face as rain, an accident, peek-a-boo, whatever. A reasonable person would conclude after this keeps happening that this has something to do with hiding from the paps for whatever reason.

IMO the most horrifying of the pics was the one where Kate is putting her hand over Collin's face. He has his eyes closed as if he's expecting a blow. The look on her face seems threatening and mean. This is not an appropriate way to discipline a child who may or may not have spoken out of turn.It shows that Kate has lost her temper and is not thinking about Collin's feelings or needs. If this is the public face of Gosselin child-rearing, what does the private one look like?
Collin and Mady have always seemed to me to be the canaries in the coal mine - children who identify the toxicity that is going on in their lives and protest against it.
The sooner these kids get some safety, stability and privacy in their lives, the better.

Lauren said...

Marnie - maybe you should direct your concerns directly to the Administrator by emailing her.
Otherwise, I don't think you should determine what should or should not be discussed.

kimmie said...

admin, kate didn't say a kid was puking at disney. i read it on gwop. someone there posted that a friend who worked there told her that one of the kids was sick...aaden i think. so it isn't always kate saying things about the kids.

that said, i don't think one or two pix of a kid hiding their faces means much. there could be myriad reasons for this; in the first one maybe someone made fun of him on the bus, maybe told him he was ugly (i am NOT saying he is), made fun of his eye.

in the second one i think it's the angle of the camera catching him...looks to me like he is grabbing fro jon's arm and the camera snapped the pic.

third one, is that collin? looks like joel more to me...but if it is, i think he is wiping the rain from his face or keeping the rain off his face.

i wish things like this weren't taken out of context and made so much of. sometimes it is much ado about nothing.

My mom was a lot like Kate in the verbal and physical abuse department, and beginning when I was about four and a half I started to do exactly what Colin's doing. I would put my hands over my face, hide behind my coat or someone elses, walk with my head down, as Colin was shown doing at the airport, trying not to let anyone see my face.
I had been told so many times that I was ugly and worthless in one way or another that I couldn't bear to have anyone see me.
I remember that it came on quite suddenly. My grandfather was a photographer, so I was comfortable being photographed. Then one day, I just snapped.
I'm thinking that may be what's happened to Colin. Not one single event; a series of belittling comments that finally built to the point where he feels too ugly to be photographed.I hope I'm wrong.

Werny Gal said...

I agree with Admin - it's too many times to be a coincidence. Sounds like Collin has his you know what together. Just like Mady he expresses his feelings and needs. Maybe if someone listens now he won't express it in more dangerous or self-destructive ways later on. I think Jon and Kate are going to have their hands full when they have eight adolescents who aren't cute and sellable anymore and who are very hurt and pissed off.

The other Marnie said...

Kate may be OK with it, but Colin obviously isn't. A reasonable person would respect his wishes, even though he is just a little kid.

I understand your point, however, I think it's different if you're using the pics as an example of why this needs to stop. Admin did not take the pics herself, they are already published on the internet. I see both sides of the argument. I don't think there is an easy right or wrong answer here.

---------------------------------------------------

Maybe, and how sad is that? Why is that little boy even put in that position?

I personally think Kate is handling the paps all wrong. Either she needs to take a stand against them and not give them photo opportunities. She should be trying to get laws made where children can't be photographed. Why isn't she making that a priority in her life? Why isn't she using her "celebrity" to try to put a stop to this?

If she won't, or can't, do that then she needs to let her children be at peace. She shouldn't make them feel like they can't be comfortable in public. She needs to tell them to just be themselves in front of the paps the same way they are in front of the TLC cameras. Why should they stress over this? Their parents put them in the public eye. They should make it as easy for their kids as possible. I remember when she first mentioned the paps to her kids getting out of the van to go to Party City. The poor kids didn't know what to do when she said Hurry up, the paparazzi are here (or something like that).

Can you imagine how mixed up these kids must be? They act like robots in front of the paps when they are with Kate. They are carefree and fine in front of the paps when they are with Jon. Except of course, the pic of Colin covering his face again. He is probably so conflicted.

I personally think the only reason Kate is against the paps taking her kids' pics is that she doesn't make money off those pics. She has no problem with TLC or any other entity that pays them taking their pics. Her kids are on the Peace Love World site. They are advertising shirts for them. I think they need permission to use those pics for profit. Didn't someone have to sign a release?

Linda in NS said...

I mentioned this on another site as well. In Canada we have a law "equal pay for work of equal value". Too bad the Gosselin kids weren't in Canada. Of course if they were they'd be normal non-working kids.

houston mom said...

It is interesting that no other pap takes pics of the gosselin family EXCEPT Radaronline. TlC and RO have some sort of pr deal, and ANY pics of the Gosselins are approved by the family.
Why do you never see other paps take pics of this family? It is because no one is interested. If RO wasn't employed to take these pics, there would't be ANY.
That proves why there are no pics of Jon with the kids (for the most part, and it 'proves' he isn't with the kids, snark..there are no pictures of Kate coming and going when it is Jon's turn with the kids, that sort of thing)

Found this fascinating blog about narcissistic personality disorder. Sheds a lot of light as far as I'm concerned about Kate's behavior:

SchmeckyGirl said...

Kimmie,

The third one IS Collin. You see Aiden and Joel separately in the pics also.

I'd agree with you IF there was only one pic of him covering his face when the paps are there. Then you could explain it away a million ways. When there are 3 pics it's harder to explain away. Yes, it's still "possible" there are other reasons, but not "probable". IMO.

Yes, we could all be wrong, but each pic increases the odds that we aren't.

There is no way that I believe radar isn't being paid by TLC. All they have done is glorify Kate and bash Jon all this time. Does anyone recall the one radar article that came out and wasn't all smoochy-kissy-drooly...(I think it was about the pathetic Santa Monica book signing) then it disappeared from the site only to be replaced with a revamped positive article ? Someone let that slip through and they quickly caught it, but not quick enough because it was copied and posted everywhere. ;)

HONESTLY.

Because my answer is absolutely NOT. I would be creeped out six ways to Sunday if my daughter were discussed this much, if this much was KNOWN about her, if her candid pictures were all over the internet, if she were a public figure, a public commodity.

But that's why I would never do what Kate and Jon have done to their kids.

Before you think I'm blaming anyone on this blog or anywhere on the internet, or people at work around the water cooler or even the paps: WRONG. I blame their parents, the people responsible for their welfare and well-being. Secondary blame goes to TLC for funding the whole thing.

If Kate and Jon hadn't okayed this whole thing for the last five years, we wouldn't know diddly about these kids. We wouldn't be able to discuss their lives in such detail, we wouldn't have all these photographs of them, we wouldn't know of all their comings and goings.

Carol, You are right that ultimately the parents are to blame for this! However, it is all these blogs and people like you and I that are keeping the flame burning. If everyone, myself included, would not comment or click on links pertaining to Kate, Jon and their children, that flame would most likely die. As long as there is the slightest bit of interest, even negative interest, there will be more pics and more stories and the flame will keep burning brightly!

SO TRUE ! If radar wasn't being paid by TLC to print all the ridiculous lovey-dovey BS about Kate the Wonderful , their articles would be worse than the things that are being said in the Gosselin (non fan) blogs. LOL ! I have only seen one article that wasn't gushing over Kate, but it was quickly changed. They never acted like she was a great dancer because they would have lost all credibility then (not that they really have any to lose)...plus we all saw the way she clomped around the dance floor. They just acted like her lack of anything even closely resembling dancing was due to all the stress of being a single "woe is me" mom of 8. Yep...blame it on the kids, but don't ever ever ever blame it on Kate. Nothing is Kate's fault. Nothing.

Carol said...

Just saying...

However, if Kate and Jon pulled the plug and PROTECTED THEIR CHILDREN'S PRIVACY AS PARENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO, this whole issue would be non-existent!

"They have a junior high girl gushing daily over Kate"

Isn't it sad that these youngsters look up to Kate as a role model and want to be just like her? It's even more tragic that these are the parents of tomorrow's children and will copy Kate's parenting skills. Heaven help the offspring of such junior high gushers. Let's hope these teens come to their senses between now and the time they become parents.

Actually, if you go back even further--you will find when it was the boys' turn to run errands with Mommy, Collin started to cover his face or turn his head away then. But what do expect? Can't you just hear the neurotic Kate scaring the children about the "P-People", think about it and her personality, secretly she craves the attention while scaring her children at the same time. Narcissists are nuts and damage their children.
Little Collin has always seemed like a people pleaser but gets frustrated easily. I feel so sorry for all of the Gosselin kids. Watch Collin start to go shoot the paps with water guns at the fence in a recent video with his siblings but then decided not to, he seemed like it was bad to be near them. He ran back towards the house as fast as he could.

Kates job is to "herd" her children around in front of the camera. The last 3 months of their show the kids looked miserable/zombies. Kate says they're fine!!! KATE LOOK AT THEM-they AREN'T FINE. She and Jon put on their fake smiles and that meant all was well in their family----WRONG. Kate won't be the mother they need--she doesn't even like them, if you look at her face, when she's near them. Steve doesn't look too happy around kate either!! Do you think kate could be the common denominator here? YES

I couldn't agree more! School is off limits. The school bus stop should be, too. So should camping out across the street in front of their house.

I have already written several letters to Radaronline about them following Kate to the gas station, Target, the salon, the spa, and everywhere else. I suggested they leave her (and the kids especially) alone and find somebody else more newsworthy to follow.
