Open letter to Jon and Kate: Go back to your normal lives

When someone has an addiction, sometimes it is very hard to break through to them. They isolate themselves from those that care the most. They do not listen to those who want what is best from them. They do not want to hear the truth. Jon and Kate are addicted to fame and fortune. They need help. But for the record, it should be said:

Dear Jon and Kate:
1. TLC does not care about you
2. TLC really does not care about your kids
3. TLC has one motive, to make money off you, period. They made over $150 million off you so far. Do you have that much money in the bank in return?
4. When you are no use to TLC anymore, they will cut you loose and sue you. They have done it before. They have shown they are willing to sue you down to every last penny until your children have to eat dog food to survive. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
5. You are ruining your children's childhoods by making a deal with the Devil. You will pay for this over and over for many years to come, because your children will be insecure and maladjusted, won't be able to trust anyone, won't know what normal is, and may likely never have privacy ever again. Imagine being in their shoes just for one minute.
6. No amount of money, not one million or one billion, is worth what this has done to your family.

We all beg of you, do not put those kids on T.V. again. Ever.

The Gosselin children have 13 years or less left of their childhoods.

They have spent enough time under the microscope.

Children are not supposed to earn a living for their parents.
Children are not supposed to strike a pose because a photographer is around.
Children are not supposed to spend their childhoods like this.

Obviously the best thing to do know is stop viewing any TLC programs if you haven't already done so.

And future Kate shows. Yeah, ignore that too. As much as we all want to see how horrible Kate is by herself.

Jon should have gone Pro Per.
Playing the victim would have been to Jon's advantage. I know, hindsight is 20/20 but I really feel like Heller's connections to the Glassmans was Jon's downfall. Judges usually give Pro Per parties more leeway because they are at a disadvantage. Anyways, there is nothing that can be done about it now.

I'm really disappointed in Jon. He was the one bright spot the kids had and now that's gone.

Jon and Kate Gosselin, the famewhores who destroyed their kids' childhood on their journey for fame and fortune.

Of course TLC doesn't care about them. They proved that when it came to dealing with Jon. They would do the same to Kate if they had to. They obviously don't care about the children. Maybe some of the employees and crew do but TLC the corporation sure doesn't.

When Jon and Kate and the children no longer make money for them they will drop them without looking back. They will say that they helped Jon and Kate support their family all these years and that if Jon and Kate didn't save enough money to support their family once the show is over then that is their problem... the same way they said that Jon and Kate were responsible to get the permits for filming the children. They didn't take the blame for that even though they are responsible to check the permits and keep copies in their files.

I think a lot of people have already turned away from TLC. I know we have. We do not even watch Discovery, Discovery Health or Animal Planet any more. TLC is a pedophiles dream come true. They are a dispicable channel and corp.

Anonymouse,

You are absolutely right. We all have to stop looking at Kate. I know it is fun to make fun of her, but, we all need to stop. Please do not watch the view.

I am not going to watch Kate on the View or on any other show--not even to snark. She has no talent and is annoying as hell. I'm not going to watch if the children are to be filmed, either. I'm not going to contribute to the ratings--because that is what its about for TLC--ratings and the money generated. When Kate and/or the kids stop generating ratings and revenue (or they become too expensive to keep), TLC will drop them.
It's still amazing to me that in this country there are so many willing to exploit children for their own monetary gain. And that there are so many people out there who see nothing wrong with it--even believing that it's actually "good" for the children.
What I don't get is, if Jon from the beginning wanted to continue a life in TV, why didn't he just go along with filming the original show? I got the feeling that Kate didn't care what he did as long as he showed up for filming and pretended they were together. Why go through all this crap if he was only concerned with making money? Did his ego get in the way, too? (I'm not saying that he should have stayed on the show--I'm just wondering what his motivation was, if as it seems now, he was only concerned with money and not with his children's welfare.)
I know TLC turned the screws on Jon, but if he had lived quietly and normally and within his means, I would have had more respect for him.
Kate, Jon, and TLC/Discovery=disgusting.

SG said...

I think Jon did want to be on the show but didn't want to have to pretend to still be happily married with Kate. I can't blame him for that.

Then I think he just got so much attention just being Jon off the show that he wanted to pursue his own media career and TLC was not having that because he was no longer the Jon they wanted associated with their show. While I understand that, I still disagree with it because he IS Jon Gosselin. He's not a character. It was his reality and he should not have to fake who he is in real life just for a show on tv. I think Kate was more than willing to do that. I don't think she did it to take the "high road", I think she did it to maintain her career and knew if she listened to her PR people she'd improve her public image.

I had little respect for Jon before he cut ties with TLC but I liked that he stood up to TLC and would not let TLC control what happens to his family. It seems like he caved. I wonder what his reasoning was. Was TLC just too huge to go up against? Did his lawyer advise it and Jon gave in? Was it always about using the children as bargaining chips? While I didn't think Jon stopped the filming of the children only in their best interest because he said to stop filming only "during the divorce", I did hope that he did want to take control of his family back.

I am eager to see if there will be any changes regarding the filming of his children now that it has all been hashed out on tv and in public.

I guess I'm more curious than angry about the settlement. Since we don't know and supposedly will never know about the terms of the agreement I am hesitant to totally condemn Jon. For one thing, I don't think Jon would have ever won in court, and evidentally he didn't either. If it was a compromise and Jon did gain a little control back over his family (kids) in the settlement then I see that as a positive. I think Jon lost this war with TLC back when the first contract was signed giving TLC rights to the children and his family. I think he was naive and TLC took advantage, just as was claimed in the lawsuit, but just because Jon might be right, doesn't mean he would have won. TLC had to make Jon an example of what will happen if you defy them and they were willing to create a smear campaign that probably cost millions, just to prove their point and break Jon in the process. Funny, Kate now gets a pass just by sitting back, keeping her mouth shut and letting TLC do her dirty work in order to get the kids back on TV. She seems to be dancing with the devil and winning.

Kate and TLC have tried to spin this for months about how strong TLC's case is....here's the thing. You don't settle cases that are a sure-fire win. If TLC had such a strong case, they wouldn't settle. If they were so confident and rock solid, they have no motivation to settle. Both cases had holes. Both cases had problems. Jon disregarded key terms of a contract, while TLC bound him to a contract that was unconscionable. You settle when it is a gamble for BOTH parties. TLC was gambling that a judge wouldn't say wait just a minute how could you enslave someone to a contract like this? Jon was gambling that a judge wouldn't say you agreed to it, you have to honor it.

Shocking I know, but TLC's case was NOT that great.

I think this was all about money from the very beginning. Jon saw that TLC was going to sabatoge him at every move and drag him through a messy lawsuit, versus he could have a cash flow right now, today, if he settled. He took the cash and ran. Even if ultimatly he would have won, it wasn't worth the risk to him.

But for the record, I think Jon could have won this. And actually, quite easily. But if he won, that would mean no more TLC and no more money.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Let me add that as many of you know I'm a defense attorney and a litigator. I settle many cases. Most times, the prosecutor knows their case has holes and will settle with me. But once in awhile the prosecutor has a strong case that they will easily win. When I try to innocently propose a settlement, oftentimes they chuckle and say "Why would I settle?"

And even less often, when my case is rock solid, I say the same thing!

As an experienced litigator, I know you don't settle a strong case. You just don't.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
two questions,
If it was just about the money why do you think he waited this long and allowed TLC to become so brutal and smear him over and over before he caved? And if he had gone to court and lost what would have happened to him and the kids regarding filming and money?
Admin, I love hearing your perspective. It reminds me of all my days working in law firms and the excitement of the whole office preparing a case for trial and then it settles. Somehow, I think working in law gets into your blood stream. There is nothing else like it.
According to US Weekly magazine, Kate is threatening to file for full custody of the kids if Jon doesn't follow her rules, no friends at the house, no filming kids at the house. etc.
I wonder if one of her rules is to drop the lawsuit so the kids can be filmed?
Kate Gosselin will return to TV, but without Jon
TLC and Jon Gosselin settled their lawsuits against each other, and the details of which are being kept confidential. TLC did issue a statement to that effect, but it included a puzzling line: “The whole Gosselin family remains under contract with TLC.”
What? Does that mean “Jon & Kate Plus Eight” might be coming back to television? Short answer: No way.
A source with knowledge of the deal said that Jon is not going to be part of any programming plan on TLC, but Kate is expected back. “
There is no air date for Kate’s show, and in fact, producers are still tweaking just what the mom of multiples will be doing on the show. According to one source close to the production, this much is certain: “It will not be a dating show.”
As for whether we’ll see the Gosselin children back on television, that’s up in the air for now. A TLC source said that maybe “down the line” there could be a special, but there aren’t any current plans beyond a show for Kate.
It is disappointing to me that Jon caved. I think it sets a bad precedent for unsophisticated people who wind up in the business without lawyers or proper advisers. Basically one a network has you, they own you. The settlement basically says it was okay to treat the Gosselins like this, in my view. I guess I believe in standing up to something that is inherently wrong no matter what it takes. But it's Jon's life and choices.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Thanks Lauren. Didn't know you worked in a law firm. There really is nothing like that rush you get when you win a big case you worked hard on. It's a drug for some lawyers.
IATK said...
Yes, I was initially disappointed and still am to some degree, but I would love to know all the facts of how it came down. It seems like once we heard Kate became involved in the offer then it was time to "settle". I don't trust her, period! I was once up against a Goliath corporation concerning sexual harrassment and I know when they bring out the big guns you have to weigh the value of your sanity against the potential outcome. They can hurt you much, much worse than you can hurt them.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Absolutely excellent point. TLC is a million dollar corporation. They are not people, they are a business. They really don't have much to lose. The network will go on and the whole Gosselin saga was so screwed up by the time they sued anyway there isn't much left to salvage. They will all go home to their families and still have their pay checks. With Jon, everything was on the line financially and emotionally.
IATK said...
I also think just the fact that Jon stood up to TLC and cried, "foul!" has brought attention to the fact that people need to get competent advice before signing anything!
Anonymous said...
Thanks Administrator I needed a dose of some sense in this senseless matter. I truly believe FOR TLC it would have been a total embarrassment to have court case where contracts were made public. They would have been seen for the greedy 8astards they are.
Yes, Jon & Kate chose TLC now their kids get to live with the consequences.
As far as the US Mag article believe me this is just what has happened. Kate and TLC have Jon right by the balls & there is nothing that can be done about it. Jon was a fool from the start but he signed his life away when he agreed to let his wife Kate go consult that fertility specialist. Then they compounded it by joining with TLC.
Yes, people are gonna try to copy the Gosselins look at OCTOMOM Nadya Suleman.
Anonymous said...
Does anyone know if Jon still has the power to pull kids from the show when he "feels" its detrimental to them?
If I was Jon, I will use this to my advantage at this point.
Hand the kids over to get TLC off my back, then, if and when the kids are back on TV, pull them off the show.
What can TLC do? Nothing but bltch and whine.
IATK said...
Not long ago I read somewhere that TLC was afraid Jon would do just this and they said they didn't trust him. I don't know where that's at now, if it's part of the agreement.
It just seems to me TLC is in damage control mode and is trying to smooth things over to get out of this whole Gosselin mess without smelling like yesterday's garbage. Whatever commitment they have with Kate they'll probably have to play along just a little longer.
itaboutthekids not only is TLC/Gosselins yesterdays garbage they have officially shown me they are nothing but a landfill.
IMO, TLC wouldn't dare to film the kids again because of the negative publicity/feedback this entire case has generated.
I am very disappointed in the decision Jon made. Do you think that his sleazy, IMO, lawyer was pressuring him for payment?
Jon could have aligned himself with Paul Peterson and his organization. If you sue TLC it is mandatory to have a very powerful and high profile atty that can match up against the barracuda legal team that TLC keeps on retainer to eat alive cream puffs like Jon and his light weight lawyer.
Gloria Allred, IMO, is powerful enough to have taken TLC on. She had already made an appearance on one of the morning shows with Jodi + Kevin. She often takes on cases pro bono and cases that line up with her ethics and values and agenda. I believe that it was a huge missed opportunity on Jon's part.
No big picture thinking. Dumb decision. Admin, do you think that Allred is powerful enough to have been equal in power to TLC's LA firm?
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
I don't know why everyone is so afraid of TLC. Because they are a big company? Because they have money?? Ohhh, I'm scared! Yes I think Gloria Allred could have taken them on. Yes I think Paul Peterson could have taken them on. Big companies lose lawsuits all the time. Any decent contract lawyer could have put up a good case and won. They are bullies who know they did something shady and did everything they could to distract attention away from their own wrongdoings. It actually worked, sadly.
Ultimately, Jon was not willing to complete sever his ties to TLC no matter how badly they treated him. They were his steady packcheck. Just like selling the house for a loss, they cannot pass up a pile of money for anything. They are pathetic. He is a slave to TLC, and to money. It was never about protecting the kids.
Yes, and this group of losers (gosselins) is going to reap what they sew somewhere down the line.
I really wonder how much there net worth really is versus the debt they have amassed. Can TLC really pull off a comeback for Kate that is going to allow her to live an extravagant lifestyle. She is stupider than I ever imagined if she thinks so.
Unbelievable!! BOTH parents are greedy fame mongers with no morals!! What happened to family values, honoring their marriage vows, being kind to one another, Christian values?! Their BOTH liars!!!
What about the poor children? Who really cares about their privacy and emotional well being? Too bad they don't have a guardian at lidem to help protect them from their parents.
Anyone watch the Real Housewives of Orange County this season? Perfect example of spending like lottery winners until the bubble bursts. Two have lost or are about to lose their homes--Tamra and Lynn, one is bankrupt, Slade, and filed court documents to reduce his child support saying all his wages are garnished such that he only actually takes in $179 on his paychecks. Oh, and Tamra's husband just filed for divorce.
Some rich people do not know how to be rich, and they will fail.
NancyB said...
Admin- Thank you very much for your responses and insight. Yes, I have watched some ot the episodes of Housewives of Orange County--I did not know those "little" details about Slade, but it is no real surprise. The Lynn situation is mind boggling to me. Totally dysfunctional family. That so called lifestyle I find repugnant. You are right--another example of very stupid rich people. It is sad, really. Especially for Lynn's VERY spoiled and screwed up girls.
Well, TLC & the Paps are back in bed again. I guess they never stopped their love affair.
Kate out in Reading PA today picking up the Juicy Juice. Does the woman pay for anything for those kids with her money?
Of course ROl had to rub in that she is adjusting while Jon is not or something like that.
Does Jon not rotate in/out of the Gosselin Orphanage too? Does he not take care of his kids too?
This reimaging of Kate to relaunch her is so fake, phoney and manufactured.
Oh, and Nadya Suleman aka Octomom is going to Cohost the View 02/24***********Before Queen Kate.
IATK said...
If it's true that Kate has threatened Jon that she'll file for full custody if he allows the kids to be photographed at McMansion, we probably won't see many pictures of him at home with the kids. That way too, Kate can control even the perception of Jon not being there for the kids and she can spin the "Jon's never home" story. And how can you control the paparazzi if they're off the property? Who do you suppose was there when the recent snow pictures were taken? Kate? the nanny?
So many questions. lol
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Itsaboutthekids, at first when I heard Kate says Jon can't take pictures of the kids I thought it was just Kate being typical Kate. Anything she can do she doesn't want Jon to do, just to stick it to them.
Then you point out the "Jon is never home" angle and it all makes sense now. OF COURSE Kate doesn't want photographic evidence that Jon is as involved as he is.
It has been very long since we've seen a photo of Jon with the kids. Somehow I highly doubt Jon hasn't seen his kids in more than a month. Not only is it very inconsistent with the kind of devoted father he has shown himself to be over and over on their series, if it were true, I believe Kate would be running to family law court in two shakes a lambs tail to bitch to the judge about how he's not following visitation and to get a more restrictive order. If he never sees the kids, put your money where your mouth is and petition for full custody.
She won't though, because he DOES see the kids, it's just not as public.
My ex-DIL is/was very much a Kate "type" person and she lived in our home for many months. I watched her play every game from every angle, using our grandson as leverage against our son. Her type has an ulterior motive for every move they make and it's always to play the victim and benefit themselves. I called her bluff one time and she called the police into our home. I now have a simple assult police record, lol. But we also have her out of our lives and grandson has a new adopted mom. Sometimes the story does have a happy ending.
Anonymous said...
I think Kate just doesn't want Jon to look like he is there for the kids. This is why when Kate is on tour, she wants the nannies to care for them and not Jon.
This is why Kate threw is "It's not like they are going to miss him".
WTF kind of mother says this? The kids don't miss him? That's why the kids run to him and hug him?
Didn't Kate say a few months ago in the vanityfair article that the kids missed Jon?
This new article is just damage control before she goes on tour. I bet the kids actually won't be missing much of Kate.
