Reporter in N.C. says crew herds the kids everywhere, forced them to fly the kites for an hour

Katy Hall, an editor with Huffington Post, is vacationing on Bald Head island this week too and has seen and heard all about the Gosselin's trip. This is an absolute must-read. Here are some of the highlights:

  • This was no quick trip. The Gosselins have been there since Sunday, almost a week now. This was only about a week after they got home for Los Angeles, and about five days after INF shot a video of the children screaming when Jon dropped them off at Kate's house.
  • Their beach house cost them $8,000 for the week.
  • "I was sitting on the beach when they all paraded out of our shared beach access walkway with a camera crew, two bodyguards and a couple of boom guys. When the family reached the ocean they were directed to turn right around and head back to the house. One of the boys hung back, looking longingly at the water. His mom hadn't noticed, but eventually one of the crew ran back and whisked him into line."
  • On Tuesday Katy Hall saw the kids playing on the beach with the camera crew, but without Kate. Kate was nowhere to be found. (In many states it is illegal for a minor to be on a set without a parent present.). Alexis spit on one of the boys and the camera crew played rock, paper, scissors with the children.
  • On Wednesday Steve came over to Katy Hall and asked her not to take photos of the children. That's rich, Steve! What exactly are you doing when you are filming them all week long? It's okay for TLC but not for anyone else? Steve then asked Katy to delete the photos she had taken in exchange for him allowing her a picture with Kate. Kate asked Katy not to post the photo on Facebook because they are "anonymous here." Ummm, what? Your family is anonymous?
  • Steve told Kate she looked "fantastic" in her bikini and they spent Wednesday together at the beach.
  • On Thursday, the day they flew the kites, the wind was blowing 20mph. The crew struggled for more than an hour to get the kites to fly before giving up.
  • The Gosselins and crew blocked access to the beach.
  • A local called the police after the entourage stomped all over protected sand dunes. A bodyguard talked to the police.
  • On Friday the wind had died down and the family finally was able to fly a kite. Without cameras.

Very interesting but again Ratclaws gets away with demanding that photos be deleted. Yes the auther said she had already saved the better ones but regardless, Ratclaws is a bully who had NO RIGHT to make such demands and the author should have stuck to her guns and not deleted the photos. Who the hell do they think they are?

Where to begin? The list of things wrong here is too long for my fingers to type today.

Not acting? Told where to walk and when to do it is not acting? Acting is a job. i.e., they are working.

A child is shown the beach and then told they were not going there?

The film crew and the Gobble-up-ins took over the beach? What about the other people who paid their $8,000 a week to enjoy the beach?
I'd demand my money back.

And that's just the top of this pile of dirty laundry. I'm gobsmacked.

Thank you Katy for sharing this.

Steve has really decided he is guarding Queen Elizabeth with his attitude. And he needs to remember that he is not an official police employee, he is a private bodyguard. I wish I could run into him somewhere and order me to delete my photos. I would take a page from the tup and spit in his face. Who the hell does he think he is?

Mimi to 3 said...

Kate's Mom posting at another blog? What a joke. Just proves the Kate fanatics will believe anything that puts Kate in a favorable light. What delusional people they are. Kate's Mom has been absent from the beginning of the show, has not seen the tups, is not allowed at birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving. How did that feel to her to have Steve and family celebrating Thanksgiving but she was not invited. And now she is at this obscure Gosselin blog all of a sudden spilling her guts? Riiight. And they have someone on that same obscure blog claiming to have talked to her. Riiight. After all the blogging that has gone on about Kate it takes a whole lot more than BabyMama saying it is so and in this case someone who claims to be her mother. Make no mistake, I have already felt very sorry for Kate's mother. I'm sure that no matter what has happened she still loves her daughter very much. I just seriously do no believe for a moment that she would choose a Gosselin blog to do that on.

Exactly what IS Steve's job on the beach? To protect Kate from a seagull attack? To save her from a monster crab? To rub lotion on every inch of her orange body?

Does the crew stay in the same house with Steve, Kate, eight kids, the nanny and the bodyguard?

I want to know when someone close to that family IE...booted family members, ex crew or bystanders are going to grow a pair and speak up for those children!

Shame on you Jon and everyone else for letting TLC and that worthless excuse of a woman, bully you into submission! There is NO amount of money worth turning a blind eye! Those children are nothing more than SLAVES to that worthless excuse of a woman, her boob boy and TLC!

I think EVERYONE who has ANY knowledge and does not speak up bares a certain amount of guilt and responsibility for allowing those 8 children to have their childhoods STOLEN from them!!!!

Boob boys wife should sue him for every dime he makes off the backs of those kids and then sue that worthless excuse of a woman for every penny she is worth for Alienation of Affection!

It's amazing how when people get in a position of power, either as a bodyguard, or with a big bad company, they think they can just tell people what to do without any legal authority to back it up. And sadly people who don't know they are protected by the law often get scared and bow to them.

When you know the law is on your side these people back down. Watch for a post soon about some shocking bullying when it comes to this whole Gosselin mess.....can't say much more now. :)

Thank you Katy Hall. These children need more adults in their lives that will expose Kate & Crew. Thank you.
Wow! Just wow... Kate really is the modern day version of "Gypsy" (as in the musical). Except she is talentless and unloveable. I can't even articulate just how angry I am with the adults (more like vultures) surrounding the kids. All this b.s. for money- to heck with the little lives involved.
Bottom line- those 8 children are WORKING on their summer vacation! I'm looking forward to the day that the kids revolt against all the adults, and stage a boycott! NO MORE FILMING- GIVE US BACK OUR LIVES!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

It's not Kate's mom, I completely agree that it's a hoax. She has been out of their lives since infancy. None of her posts say anything earth shattering. Kate had a dog named Rosie...wow, what an insider secret. We're to believe after all this time Kate's mom comes forward now? Please.

If it is Kate's mom, she needs to get some self-respect. She is defending a person who does not let her see her grandchildren, attend their birthdays, holidays, or so much as be invited along on one of their many fabulous trips. Kate would rather take her bodyguard-boyfriend, a college chick, a film crew, and Jamie.

My parents tried to take us on at least a little trip once a year, even if it was just a few hours away. We almost always brought my mom's parents. My dads parents were a lot older and unable to travel but the mom's side were still young and energic. My fondest memories. Not the trips, but being with them.

Just the fact that we're using/hearing the term "WORKING vacation" in conjunction with these children is revealing enough. FINALLY, someone has been able to shine an honest spotlight on this horrid woman, her un-earned sense of entitlement, her disdainful disregard of her own children, and her bodyguard's overblown sense of his own importance (and hers!). Thank you Katy Hall. I am thrilled that these snippets are coming out just as KG is about to rub shoulders with the real celebrities at the Emmy's. How I wish even ONE of them would post anonymously how humiliating it must be for them to have this imposter lumped into their Hollywood circle. I hope Katy Hall has opened the door to more truth-telling. It's high time.

Unfortunately, neither Maryland nor Pennsylvania law gives any party the right to sue for alienation of affection.

Yes they worked all summer with the illusion that will be all until next summer. I think what has been filmed will last until Dec. As soon as the kids are on their Christmas holiday, they will work those two weeks and then again on the Spring or Easter break. This will roll into next summer filming again. The kids will never not work when they are free. Too sad for words.

I am completely baffled as to why Katy Hall felt it necessary to acquiesce to both the 'demand' to remove any of her own photos from her own phone from PUBLIC access, AND to agree to a photo with Kate G.!!! WTH? Even IF someone believes in the "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" rule many of our mothers taught us (and Katy Hall certainly does not exhibit that belief), to agree to both things only feeds into KG's narcissim AND Steve's over-inflated sense of power over mere mortal beings. I just cannot shake the thought that Katy Hall enjoyed rubbing the elbows herself a bit, and there is no reason to wonder why KG's 15 mins are not over yet.

Wow, Katy Hall just blew the sheeple out of the water with this one. Kate ignoring her kids, check, kids trotted out to the ocean and trotted back without being allowed to play, check, Kate off with Steve while the crew and nannies play with the kids, check. Yup, this is their reality, what is seen on tv is fake and staged and Steve's job is keep the show on the air, keep Kate from blowing it, keep pictures and blogs from reporting the facts, keep the sheeple drinking the koolaid.

It will come sooner than that. Thanksgiving break is a week, from November 23 to the 30th. There's no extended Easter break, but spring break is ten days...too cold for the beach. Where will they go? Hawaii? Tahiti? Disneyland? A Caribbean cruise? Paris? Korea? Ah, the anticipation!

Let me get this straight while I'm LMAO:

Katy Hall, an editor for Huffington Post, goes on a previously scheduled one week vacation to visit her parents who live on Bald Head Island only to wind up having to work on her vacation because 8 kids are working on yet another one of their summer "vacations" ...

I sure would love to be a fly on the wall when Kate Gosselin and Steve Nield read this story and discover who the "tourist" was on the beach! Imagine, Kate was worried that a photo from this "insignificant person" might wind up on a Facebook page!?!

Since we all know now that Katy Hall's parents live on Bald Head Island, my guess is that the Gosselins will never return to this beach ever again. But that is OK because it sounds like the locals are not happy when the Gosselins show up due to the what happens to their sand dunes and access to the beach.

IMHO it is not going to be an issue for much longer anyway, not with Kate+8 losing viewers due to boring scripts and kids that are older now and not so cute. Of course this is in addition to the recent TV GUIDE tidbit that Kate is paid $250,000 per episode as an itless wonder flying a kite ... no, I sincerely doubt the Gosselins will ever return to Bald Head Island again, escpecially if Kate has to pay for all the trip expenses out of her own pocket after TLC drops her like a dead rock.

Thank you Katy Hall for sharing the highlights of your well deserved vacation. This was so much better than sending a postcard via snail mail :)

Yes, it is a small world after all :)

I knew Charlene Kreider years ago (years and years ago). Posting on a blog is not something I would ever imagine her to do. That said, times change, circumstances change, and who knows what effect "celebrity-ism by association" would have on someone?
My gut feeling is that this is a hoax, another case of internet deception, and until it is proven (by means of a video/photo ID), I'm not going to believe it.

So true. When it was leaked that Jon & Kate were buying the $1mil+ Konpound, BM insisted she had "inside" information that they were NOT moving from the E-Town house. When Jon hit the bar scene, bought the sports car and it became apparent that K&J were headed for the big D, BM again had exclusive "inside" information. All the Jon pics were fakes, photoshopped by the haterz to sell to the tabs and that K&J were more in love than ever. hahahahahaha.

The fact that Kate has isolated the kids from all family and longtime family friends, only permitting people she pays to have contact with them, is the biggest thorn in the sheeples side. It is a terrible loss for the kids as well as an extremely selfish act on Kate's part. For those reasons, the sheeple try to bleat that Kate does have contact with her family, she just keeps it a secret. So now I see they've even invented an imaginary Mrs. Kreider in a pathetic attempt make their lie believable. To borrow the Bill Engvall bit "If you have to tell outright lies and invent people to mask the bad behavior of your idol- there's your sign.

I must admit, I had to laugh out loud at Kate's statement "we're anonymous here", when she was advising Katy Hall not to post her picture on Facebook. The irony is astounding - she wants to preserve her anonymity, all the while invading other people's right to enjoy their vacation spot with full entourage - lights, cameras, cameramen, probably makeup and hair staff, bodyguards, nannies. Let's not even mention that other legitimate vacationers were not permitted to access the beach they PAID for to utilize. She's such a dumb cow.

Katy said she gave in and deleted a few pictures because she wanted to stay in their good graces so she could follow the rest of the week without them making a stink out of it.

Because of it she got to report on all the exploitation the whole week.

I think it was the right call. But I don't like that it just encourages Steve thinking he has the power.

Reminds me of when Steve put his claws in my arm and dragged me away from Kate for simply asking "what about the new child labor laws that are coming down will that affect filming?"

Bet Steve-o didn't think I might have a Gosselin blog!

Yes, but Katy Hall had the last laugh after all. And it won't stop them from going to Bald Head Island again next year (as long as TLC is paying for it). They'll make sure to keep an eye of for Ms. Hall and Steve will try and strong arm her off the beach, which legally I don't think he can do.

That really is one of the sickest things I've ever heard when it comes to these kids. Marching kids down to the beach tell them time to play and have fun, then maybe the shot wasn't right or the lighting was off or something, so march them back to the house. Sick.

The only reason this should happen in real life is if for instance a kid is misbehaving. Talk about messing with children's minds, they are doing nothing wrong and have their fun ripped out from under them.

How are the sheeple defending this one now? The only thing I can think of is that Katy is a liar??

IMO - no. In order to be a "fan" of Kate's after all that's been seen up to this point, you have to be someone with a pretty warped personality basically cut from the Kate mold. They'll never "wake up" because they probably have many of the same personality traits and waking up would be showing some personal insight.

I did venture to the infamous BM site for the first time and notice about the same 5 or so people provide pretty much all of the comments. Not a huge fan base. Now if only those who want the kids returned to private lives would actually stop watching, there aren't many fans left to carry the ratings.

Where did Alexis get the idea to spit on one of her siblings over a granola bar. Is Kate's 250,000 per episode not feeding the kids enough? Or is all that money going to Kate's head - literally - for maintenance on Kate's weave.

I know that Kate doesn't feed the kids much - and milk is a luxury - so I wonder if the kids fight over food alot. Sort of sad really, those kids are going to grow up with food issues.

Spitting is not normal for a 6 year old. Did Kate spit on Jon during an argument? Alexis saw someone doing it and decided if they did it then it was okay for her to do it.

I agree Lauren, these kids seem to fight over food constantly and fret about when their next snack or meal is coming to them. It is good the nanny disciplined her by ending the outing, poor kid was likely overtired from being on duty all week. Where did these kids learn to spit on each other? I have never seen any kid do that ever. I've only seen that done by grown men picking a fight. Is this common in lower class children? I have worked with children from all socio-economic backgrounds. The common denominator for children spitting is poor parenting, not social class.

We've seen the G8 hit and kick each other and the dogs more than a few times. Spitting is just one more way to show something is eating them up inside (or at least Alexis' insides).

It would be perfectly reasonable for people to question the fact that we don't see Jodi and Kevin much anymore......or even Paul Petersen for that matter....and "who's gonna save the Gosselin children?"

But if I try to be objective and not get distracted by emotional feelings regarding the children....I think some really smart person, maybe an entertainment lawyer....told them that waiting for the show to bomb (to get them off TV) was the best choice..because money is ALWAYS the bottom line.
Because if you think about it...they'd have to stick to the issue of child exploitation on reality children and that and that would result in huge monetary costs for TLC (and other TV channels....because it would affect ALL of the reality shows with children. You could not pull the Gosselin children off and not all the others. And it's difficult to go up against something that's gonna result in the loss of a fortune.

I mean, we couldn't make an exception for the Gosselin children just because their mother is a nasty jackass with NPD....and only pull THEM off TV.

And what is there really for them to say at this point? That would accomplish anything? I think that working on changing the laws and waiting for the show to tank are really the most sensible options.
Because even when the show tanks and they are no longer on TV, they still have to go home to Kate. And nobody can do anything about that unless abuse or neglect are proven.

The G. children, unfortunately, will be collateral damage in the cause of getting the laws changed so this doesn't happen to other children in the future, hopefully. And we have all said numerous times here that it is the show tanking/getting really low ratings that is guaranteed to get them off TV. And I've always agreed with that. So I think people like Jodi & Kevin, etc....have realized that this is the best outcome they can hope for and why we haven't seen or heard from them in quite some time.

dee3 said...

"Anonymous said... "I want to know when someone close to that family IE...booted family members, ex crew or bystanders are going to grow a pair and speak up for those children!"
___________
I think that we've not seen these other players because they've realized that their best options are waiting for the show to tank in the ratings and to work towards getting the laws changed.
Because if the G. children were pulled off TV, so would all the other children on all the other reality shows....which would result in the loss of fortune and is difficult to go up against.

I mean, we can't just make an exception and pull the G. children off TV just because their mother is a malignant narcissist.
And the fact is....even if they get pulled off, they still have to go back to their mother, unless abuse/neglect could be proven.

So...if I try to be really objective, I see it as probably the best option would be to lay low, work towards changing the laws and wait for the show to tank, which is inevitable.

The only ones who wouldn't know are all of those who have never even heard of them.

I think Katy Hall played this perfectly. She had "already saved" the pics of Kate and Steve and deleted the other pics to appease Steve. I believe that if she had refused to erase the pics, Steve might have grabbed the camera and done it himself. I also don't believe for a second that she was happy to have her picture taken with Kate--quite the contrary. I think that picture is the PROOF of everything she has reported. But there is also the article from TV GUIDE where it posted a lot of the salaries of celebrities, not just Kate which is also going to turn viewers against Kate since she cries about "being poor" and "can't pay my bills".

A few days ago I told my BF what Kate was making and what Betty White was making and it pissed him off. Today he was searching the Internet and found the complete article on his own and when he saw that Kate makes more money than actors X, Y and Z he hit the roof!

He said, "what does she do to warrant this kind of money?"

As calmly as I could I said, "fly a kite on a beach" and watched him totally come unglued about Kate Gosselin that it made my day :)

IDModo, thanks for not assuming I meant to insult anyone. Of course I didn't. Stupid thing I posted regarding spitting. What I was implying is that KATE lacks class and sophistication and manners and perhaps doesn't teach her children how to behave properly. The idiot will rip them a new one for getting dirt on their shoes, but the kids manage to make it to six and not realize spitting is completely unacceptable. The woman may have lots if money now, but remains tacky. Meanwhile someone of little means may have all the class in the world. Those poor kids need someone besides Kate around to teach them how thevworld works or they'll grow up to be just like her....I shudder to think

Ah, but you're not a journalist, an entertainment writer of a major online publication. You didn't put it in writing that you've never seen an episode, and in the same breath, go on to say what happens in an episode. Unfortunately, writers get called on this when someone wants to discount the writer's credibility, pointing out the "second hand" information is heresay.

The first thing that I noticed in the pics is that the older girls are allowed to wear two piece bathing suits.
First, that's fine with me. I always allowed my daughter to wear her choice of bathing suits. I don't have a problem with any suits.
However, it was Kate herself, who used to claim that she was modest, back in the church-going days, and would only allow the little toddler girls to wear two piece suits, as it was easier to change their diapers or pull ups. She was emphatic that her older ones would not wear be wearing them.
Just another way that she has tossed aside all of her old beliefs.

I think the tv guide article may be misleading. Kate is undoubtedly overpaid and it's great that the public and sheeple now realize she isn't the poor single mom she's been claiming to be. She may make $250,000/episode, but aren't they shooting only 5 episodes of Kate plus 8? McDreamy makes $250,000 per episode of greys anatomy, but they shoot 20-30 episodes a season, right? Anyway, she should not be compared to real working actors. She has no talent, beauty or charm and her 15 minutes are ticking down. I'd be surprised if she's still marketable by this time next year.

Michelle said...

Thus far, haven't there been 5 episodes of Kate Plus 8 (Discovery Cove, 6th birthday, chickens and house maintenance). I haven't watched any, so I'm not sure if they are 1/2 hour episodes or 1 hour episodes with 2 subjects each.

Assuming a paycheck for each of those listed, those 5 plus the hour long Kate special would come to $1,500,000. Plus they've filmed New York, Alaska and now North Carolina (and whatever else they've filmed at home). I'd assume at least 4 more episodes for another $1,000,000.

After taxes, that would probably leave her with $175,000 or so.
Put $26,250 of that into the kids' fund. Yes, I know she can touch that for their care, medical expenses, education.
Nevertheless, she nets $148,500 per episode, times 5, for a grand total of $742,500. Sounds like a nice sum, but if they throw her under the bus, she better save her money for a rainy day.

Let that short stuff pull those stunts with me and he's going to find a very stubborn, unwilling and quite argumentative brick wall on my end that won't give in to his demands. You bet it was an act. If you can stomach it, watch the Hawaii vow renewal on YT. During the couch interview when Jon is asked what his favorite part of Kate's vows were he says 'the scripture' and Kate turns to him, laughs and says' I didn't put scripture in my vows'.

It apparently didn't matter to her that he didn't pay attention. She got what she wanted even if it meant lying in front of the pastor, her children and the God she claims to worship. That's how low she stoops to get what she wants.

It just seals the fact that it was all a ruse right out of the gate to get her foot in the door with TLC at any cost. It worked too. Her lies and the exploitation of her own children have reaped her all kinds of material rewards... which was all she was after in the first place.

It's utterly amazing she still has fans who are willing to defend her. They've gotta be just as shallow and greedy as she is.

I find it interesting in all of this time, with Steve throwing his weight around, that nobody has stood up to him! Certainly these aren't isolated incidents -- he must do this on a regular basis.

One of these days he's going to find himself face to face with a "Kelly" person and the fur is going to fly! I hope someone gets it on film!

Why is Steve concerned about someone on the beach taking photos of the children? Who's watching the children while he's puttering around town on a golf cart with Kate? He's out shopping with Kate, while the nannies and real bodyguard are taking care of the children.
I can't believe his wife is unaware of the intimate relationship between Steve and Kate. He probably tells his wife all these awful stories about Kate and how he can't wait to come home. Steve and his wife may have an open marriage or she is waiting until his contract with TLC is finished to file for divorce. Kate and Steve won't be together. If anything, Steve will be broke, sharing a cheap apartment with Jon and the chopper guys, when TLC is done with them also.

Kelly said...

You know, after reading the authors article from the Huffington Post, it sounded as if Kate was almost like a zombie, under the control of Steve and pimping her out for photo op's if the offending party would do as he says.

Offering Kate up to the author for a picture, without her consent and then bringing the author, a total stranger, into Kate's space, conditioning her by telling her how great she looked in her string bikini and then Kate going along with it brought images of how Howard K. Stern used Anna Nichol Smith.

I find it somewhat offensive that Steve Neild jogged across the beach to tell the author to erase her camera and then in the next breath, offer her a photo op with Kate, bring her over to Kate's beach area and then without warning, tell Kate she had to stand up and take a few pics with this stranger.

How weird is that and then on top of it all, Kate didn't put up a fight. Something sounds fishy about the whole ordeal. Kate couldn't take direction from Tony Dovalini on DWTS without putting up a fight at every direction yet she gives in like a puppy when Steve brings a stranger over to get a photo with Kate. What's wrong with that picture??????
It's almost like Kate is spellbound by TLC and Steve Neild.

In which case, the police should have been called, he should have been booked for theft and taken away in the police vehicle. Katy should have pressed charges.

The paps would have gotten it on film, and it would have been reported by the media, as it should have been. TLC, with their tail between their legs, would call the suits together for major damage control.

The heck with her wanting to remain on his "good side" in order to get more info for a story. A charge pending against him would have been a far better story than the little bit of news she was hoping to get for the next few days.

Too bad it didn't go down this way.

I'm sure the locals in Bald Head Island, which is very exclusive, are fed up with the "Clampits from Wernersville" invading their precious space.

Those who own homes on this exclusive island probably don't appreciate "posers" bringing press and Paps to the one place they can escape the real world for some rest and relaxation.

Last year, Kate made a fool of herself on Bald Head Island when she tried to go to gym at the country club and no one would open the door for her because she didn't have the key code. She got her panties in a wad that no one recognized her.

She made a bigger fool of herself when she took the kids to a bead store and treated the help like illegals and put on her diva face. Bald Head is a pretty exclusive place with homeowners who have achieved their status by hard work and smart investments. It's almost as exclusive as the Hamptons but much more laid back. Kate and her double wide mentality couldn't pull this off in the Hamptons.

I doubt it. It doesn't matter what Kate does, she's still around, still making appearances on TV (now the Emmys), still traveling just like she wanted, still has a show, still making the big bucks. She'll be around until TLC doesn't want her around. Blogging isn't going to make a difference.

Kelly said...

AuntieAnn,
The only secret Steve is guarding, aside from what a fraud Kate is, is the secret about the pink scooter that OC Choppers butchered for Kate and she supposedly donated it to the Ronald McDonald House, complete with her autograph and her benevolence.

Kate acted like she was giving the Ronald McDonald house the keys to the city when she dropped that pink mess off and hoped someone would buy it at a raffle. Word has it that they couldn't get a buyer and it's back in Kate's garage.

I wonder how many times Mikey and the gang from OC Choppers have dropped by Wernersville since then, unexpected, just to play with the Gosselin brats.

Probably as many times as her "Crew" from TLC, you know, the ones who are family to the kids, have nothing better to do on weekends and would rather pass on a day at the bar watching football games with their friends just to show up at Kate's house to play with the kids.

How many people do that? For christs sake, Kates parents, sisters and brother haven't dropped by the Gosselins house to play with the kids on a whim, in all these years. HOWEVER.... the crew at TLC can't get enough of them, they just want to drive all the way to Wernersville on a weekend to hang with a bunch of 6 year olds.

Those Gosselins are Party Animals. You'd think Wernersville was MECCA, according to Kate.

AuntieAnn said...

Kelly,
Got it...Mikey drops around on Sunday to check the oil, Emeril to fix a light lunch and Duff to serve up cupcakes for dessert. Just like they do in real life. Yeah. Right.

I have to refer back to the Truman Show one more time. "Truman Burbank is a man whose life is a nonstop TV show. Truman doesn't realize that his quaint hometown is a giant studio set run by a visionary producer/director/creator..."

We know which words and names to interchange. The frightening part is that a fictitious movie has turned into actuality for the Gosselin kids.

What's being filmed is not reality and it shouldn't be labeled as such. It's a crime what they're doing to the G8. How on earth can this ever be justified when they're older and forced to return back into civilization. It's going to be like releasing circus animals into their natural habitat after they've been trained to perform all their lives. How will they ever cope with it?

I asked her once how she did it, with no ID, invitation, anything. She said, "I act as if I belong there."

Oh it's amazing what you can get away with when you just play the part. By the way Steve has NO legal right to kick someone out of public place, put his hands on someone, or tell someone to delete their photos in a public place. None, zero, zip, nada. He just acts like he does. He plays the part.

I was on a business trip in Florida once at the Poynter Institute. I forgot what museum was across the street but we were all in our business clothes so we looked pretty official. We went over to the musuem and not knowing the building well we completely stumbled upon a meeting of the museum donors with a full catered lunch, alcohol, the works. We didn't realize what it was, I don't know why but we thought it was just open to the public, so we started eating. And eating. And drinking. No one questioned us. No one asked for our ticket. No one said a thing! Well about 15 minutes and several glasses of wine later we discovered a program and realized this was an invitation only private event. We sort of quietly left and had a good laugh about it for days later.

All we had to do was 1. dress the part and 2. act like we're supposed to be there. It was the easiest thing in the world.

I don't think they meant Steve and Kate were there one summer, by themselves, on the other side of the island. They meant last year, on their first visit to the island, K&S traveled over to the other side of the island, by themselves, without the kids. I have a degree in photography. I did it for my own enjoyment, although I have sold a shot or two in my time, it's still mostly a hobby. Back in the '70s I kept release forms in my bag, in case someone got into a shot that I thought might sell.

That no longer applies now. One doesn't have to run around to 50 or more people asking for a release if you're in a public place.

Had I been there, Steve would have been laughed off. I'm on a public beach, I am shooting, and if the children or Kate got in the way, oh well.

The offer of a pose with Kate? My answer, "No, but thank you anyway", with a smile. Had he pushed further, the police would be called. Trust me. I would have filed charges on old ratclaws before he could say "TLC".

In Ms. Hall's defense:

1) Taking her picture with Kate Gosselin gives Kate and Steve the impression that she is just a fan and when they see her on the island, they will not be guarded around her ergo allowing her to get more information for her article. And as she said, she already had the photos she wanted so deleting the others wasn't really a big deal. It kept up her charade and allowed her to write what I felt was a fairly good article.

2) Regarding her telling the ladies the show was about nothing, despite claiming to have never seen it: She states clearly at the beginning of her article that her parents are filling her in about the show and who Kate is, etc. Also, she works for the Huffington Post which has covered Kate extensively. I'm sure she contacted her editor at some point early on in her stay on the island to discuss writing a piece about the Gosselin vacation and was given more details about the show. You don't have to watch it to know that it's about nothing much.

I have some concerns about how the girl tups treat the boy tups, and how they are allowed to get away with it. If you watch some of the episodes over the past 2 years, you can clearly see the girls push, hit, scream, demean, and generally are not nice to the boy tups. Wonder where they learned this and how they are able to get away with this. And I am only talking about what actually makes it to the show. You can imagine what does not make it to the show - spitting, hitting, pushing... you get the picture. The boy tups appear to becoming more and more withdrawn.

Furthermore, Kate the absentee parent has no interest in parenting - rather only her earning potential and fame. She has checked out as a parent for the last few years, and is less involved in their lives, and the nannies do her job. So sad for the kids. In their earlier years, she was more involved with their upbringing, but over the past 2-3 years, she is into delegating her mom duties, and does not seem to give a crap about what kind of kids she is raising. The kids are an afterthought. She couches her lack of involvement by claiming she is the bread winner, puts food on the table, when clearly everything she does is about more money and HER fame. These kids are an after thought. And the behavior of Alexis spitting on her brother over a granola bar is symptomatic of how badly these kids are acting out. Much like the video of their return to the McMansion at the gate. Who allows their kids to be dropped off at the front gate? There is surely many problems at Gosselin land, and all of the non-TLC incidents point to this. Interestingly enough, TLC is also films Kate saying, " I have to get out of here," " A one bedroom apartment sounds good," and footage of her giving commands to her kids, but clearly not interacting with them. I honestly believe she is heading towards the end of her run. She simply can not present the facade she had for years, as her true colors are coming out with her inabilitly to parent kids, who are not babies not arguing with/ or challenging her. She also mentioned in a recent interview of how she no longer wants to be in charge! What message does this send to her kids?? Seriously.

Kate has been coming undone for a long time, but the created facade of her being super mom is clearly coming undone. Jon always did the majority of the work with the kids, now the nannies, and Kate can not even feign an interest in her kids unless the cameras are rolling. How sad for them.

You say nothing. You tuck the phone/camera into the top of your bathing suit and say nothing.

I think that speaks volumes.

I thought this long before this article. Can not help if you choose to ignore the obvious.

By the way, if someone asked me to delete pictures on my phone, the answer would be NO plain and simple. And I certainly would not agree to a photo with/of Kate, as this would be the equivalent of allowing someone to "bully" me. Not something I prescribe to. I get the impression this is not the first or last time, Steve will try to get a person to delete photos, since these kids have been dragged all over the country for non-stop trips this summer. I imagine these kids would love a little down time or time with their friends locally.

Kate is required to put away 15% of the KIDS PAYCHECK. The kids are not paid. Kate is paid, the kids are not! The kids are considered participants, not employees. So, 15% of nothing is still nothing. The kids could very well end up without a dime to show for their time as reality tv stars.

==============

This is not correct. PA ruled that at least 15 percent of the show's gross proceeds due to the children must be placed in irrevocable trust funds until they reach the age of 18 or unless needed for their safety, education, welfare or health.

Permits were granted with the stipulation that the money must be put into a trust for the children. If they fail to do that, there will be penalities, and no work permits issued. So if the money isn't put aside, they don't work because they don't get the permits (they could, of course, move to a state where no such law applies). It has nothing to do with whether they are tagged employees or participants or who cashes the paycheck.

Of course the catch here is that the money can be withdrawn for education, health, safety and welfare. If Kate's financial advisors are clever, all of the support for the kids could fall under those categories, and she could use the money for tuition, trips to the doctor, living expenses, etc. Therefore, they very well could be left with nothing. I'm wondering if an accounting has to be made with the state regarding how much money has actually (and legitimately) been withdrawn. That was never addressed when the state made its ruling.

As an addendum to my previous comment regarding PA child labor laws...

Diane: I am not suggesting that "Janet" doesn't know contract law regarding children on reality television. The fact is that PA does not have laws protecting children on reality television. Therefore, the April hearings were held to determine if rules regarding child labor laws in PA were broken. Note that there are child labor laws in PA, but when they were enacted, nobody could foresee that children would be involved in REALITY TELEVISION, and therefore, these laws are subject to interpretation.

Following the hearings, PA ruled that permits for the Gosselins are required, and that fifteen percent of the gross revenues MUST be put aside for the children...not that Kate has to put them aside, but that there must be a trust fund established for the children.

Bill 2515, which addresses PA's antiquated child labor laws, will be up for vote next month, which is the reason Paul Petersen has been meeting with state legislators to discuss what should be put forth in this bill.

I would hope that in the near future we will hear more about the funds that are to be put aside for children on reality television, and the answers regarding exactly who is entitled to withdraw the amounts, who oversees this trust, etc., will be made public.

Hi PA Mom ALSO,

Have you been reading Janet's comments at Z on TV? I am just wondering, not arguing. The contracts are very carefully worded and ,IMO, deceptive. You may be correct. I hope so for the Gosselin children's sake.

I also wonder who will fine this production company and shut down their show? Perhaps the same DOL people who did not fine TLC/ figure 8 productions or Jon or Kate Gosselin for not having permits for the filming of their children. The same people who essentially said, "well ok , but, don't do it again." The same people who had an investigation going on for 2 years with this show and this family and never once visited their home, which was the "set" for this show and should have been investigated.

I sincerely hope YOU are right. But, I am doubtful.

Have a good day Pa Mom ALSO.

++++++++++++++

I have a feeling, though, that things are going to be different this time around. The entire country is watching now, and we have some great legislators in our corner.

They SHOULD have been fined for not having permits. What happened was a travesty. I think that DOL just didn't know what to do with the situation because the laws are so vague. That's the reason new laws are being drafted, and I would expect that with the passing of this bill, things are going to change. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one, and I, for one, am going to stay on top of it.

I have not been reading any comments on Z, but I am not refuting the fact that "Janet" doesn't know anything about contracts regarding reality television. Perhaps she is unaware of the recent ruling by the state regarding the no trust fund/no permits issue.

It will be interesting to see how all of this goes down in September.

---

Such melodrama. You have no idea that the kids were told "time to play and have fun" and then had their fun ripped out from under them. Maybe they were told "we're going to film this one scene now and we'll go to the beach to play at XYZ time."

As I recall, the contract stated that 15% of THE CHILDREN'S GROSS EARNINGS must be put in trust.

It didn't say the show's gross earnings; it didn't say Kate's gross earnings.

So far I have not heard anywhere that the children are earning one cent of the paycheque from TLC. It is reported that Kate gets $250,000 an episode. What do the children get per episode? Nobody seems to know.

Is the PA DOL counting on Kate to prorate HER salary and do the right thing for her children? That's not how the contract is written.

http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/entertainment/042510-pa-approves-new-kate-gosselin-show

"Kate Gosselin will be required to withhold part of the gross pay for the series in a trust fund for the children."

Also, the following (from Vancouver Sun):

"In a letter that became public Wednesday, state Department of Labour and Industry officials said child-labour permits should have been obtained for Jon and Kate Gosselin's eight children, who appeared regularly on the now-canceled TLC show watched by millions.

The letter also said no legal action would be taken against the show's producers — as long as 15 per cent of the show's proceeds were salted away in a trust fund for the Gosselins' nine-year-old twins and five-year-old sextuplets."

The news release that came from the DOL, when the decision came down that there would be no penalties for filming without permits, stated "the show's gross earnings."

It also stipulated that if this amount is not withheld, permits would not be issued. I'm wondering if this is another case of the right hand not knowing what the left was doing. I would hope that all of this becomes crystal clear when the new bill is approved.

It is also interesting in the FoxPhilly article that no permits were in place, or (at that time) had been applied for in the Twisted Kate series. Weren't the children supposed to have a minor part in that? I can't find any record of permits being granted. Does this mean that there is no show; that TLC knew at that point (in April) that there might not be a show; and/or that the children would not appear on the show?

OT, I don't remember which one of the beach threads it was where someone commented that Hannah's hair had been cut. My first thought was, that this would make a nice segment in the show - Hannah donating her hair to 'locks of love'. For once it would show the Gosselins actually giving something to charity. Who knows, maybe the clip (with camera crew) we saw last week of Kate taking the kids for hair cuts will show something like this. But if it does, Kate will make it all about her instead of letting the little girls express their feelings. My other thought was if Alexis also got her hair cut ... will Kate be able to tell the difference between the three tup girls. She made a comment several years ago about how she could tell them apart. Leah had the shortest hair, then Alexis and Hannah had the really long hair.

Regarding the libel suits...

There are those who believe that only a fraction (if that) of what is reported in the NE, Star, gossip tabs, online articles, etc. is true. Have the celebrities become so hardened to all of these erroneous banterings that they know it's not worth the trouble to file such a suit? I would imagine if every person claimed defamation of character and took the publications to court, then the courts would be saturated from now until the next century.

Isn't a libel suit difficult to prove because damages have to be assessed? Granted, suits against major tabloids have been won, but these are few and far between. Do Kate's cronies, legal advisors, handlers, advise her against filing libel suits because dirty secrets and her entire life history would be open to public scrutiny? Is it really worth it for her to open up a whole can of worms that best would be left unreleased? I don't know...I'm just asking.

Personally, I don't believe that Katy Hall's article is fiction. What would she have to gain by fabricating such a story? Her accounts of the Gosselin's activities seem credible -- kids being told what to do and where to go, a are right in line with what has been reported all along.

Methinks that Oh The Drama wanders over here for a little melodrama of his/her own, just to stir things up a bit. Her ID seems right on target. Perhaps the sheeple on the other blogs have gone to pasture and things there have slowed down a bit!

When you are a public figure libel suits are harder to prove because you have to prove ACTUAL malice...that the publication printed something false maliciously. You also have to prove that it was FALSE.

That said, when there is a suit it can be catastrophic. It could be for millions. Just because there are not that many suits doesn't mean that a journalist will play with fire. Tabloids have this reputation for printing garbage but the reality is they are well aware of libel and could not afford to risk a suit. Their information isn't so much as false as it is tacky, for lack of a better word. It's salacious gossip that while usually true, the more uppity publications don't touch.

I worked for two major publications, TV and newspaper. There was serious instruction on libel and slander and how to avoid it at all costs. I have never EVER met a journalist who didn't have a healthy respect for these kinds of lawsuits. They can and do happen.

The original discussion was concerning a blogger's assertion (on another site) that the children are not employees, but participants, and therefore there is no money set aside for them since they don't get a paycheck.
Is it your understanding that Kate is to deposit the fifteen percent into the trust, or that TLC is to put the fifteen percent in there before she gets it? There are various interpretations of this, such as the following from ABC news:

"It [the DOL letter] said that at least 15 percent of the gross proceeds, due to the children, must be placed in trust funds until they reach the age of 18 or unless needed for their safety, education, welfare or health.

Laurie Goldberg, a spokeswoman for Discovery Talent Services and TLC, said Wednesday the trust was established in November and that the amount placed in trust exceeds the 15 percent level."

Katy's parents called her and told her they had spotted Kate. This is a place Kate has been to before and it's a place Katy has been to before. They both happened to be there the same summer week. What is so hard to believe about that?

Given it's the high summer season, it's doubtful she would have been able to rent a place near Kate's if she were going down there just to report on Kate. They are probably booked through Labor Day. Coincidences do happen. You've never had a coincidence happen to you?

As for the photos, Katy's explanation made sense to me. She erased a few to keep Steve happy so she could continue to keep an eye on them all week. She didn't delete them all, just a few to satisfy Steve. Reporters often try to cultivate good relationships with their subjects so they can continue reporting on them. Yes, but do good reporters lie to them in order to get their story? As a former newspaper writer for more years than I care to admit, I never would have said that I was a fan of the show, especially if I had never seen it, and then turned around and written a story in which I admitted I had never seen the show, but told a big fat fib by saying that I was a fan.

I also would not have been bullied into deleting any pictures, no matter if I had saved the ones I wanted. To do so would only serve to fatten his ego, and as stubborn as I am, I would rather have knocked him down a peg or tow. But that's just me.

Certainly it could have been a coincidence that she was there. However, her credibility comes into question (at least for me) when she lies about being a fan, and then admits it in the article.

Regardless, she reported on what she saw, and I have no doubt that the information is accurate, and once again we have an account of the kids on a working vacation when they should have been enjoying the end of summer at home with their dad.

I don't know about any of you ladies out there, but if my husband shared a beach house with an unmarried woman, and was heard telling the woman that she looked "fantastic" in a bikini, my own ratclaws would come out so fast it would make his head spin.
