Tony's new partner: Guts of steel

Leah Remini spoke up when she saw something she knew was wrong. She was outcast by Scientology for it, but praised by others as courageous and a hero.

Dancing With the Stars kicks off again this month, and Tony Dovolani's partner couldn't be more of a firecracker. And an inspiration. Forty-three-year old Leah Remini has had steady work in Hollywood since she was 13 years old, and eventually, like many seasoned stars, found her way to the Church of Scientology. For years she was a devoted follower, until she started seeing some things that just weren't right. When she tried to say something about it, she ignited a war with the church.

Here is a summary of what happened this summer, from the L.A. Times:

Leah Remini made headlines in July when she publicly left the Church of Scientology. In August she filed a missing persons report for church leader David Miscavige's wife, Shelly, who allegedly hasn't been seen in public for six years.

"We can confirm that the missing person report has been taken, and that's all the information we have at this time," a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told Us Weekly.
TMZ confirmed that an ongoing investigation into Miscavige's whereabouts is underway. LAPD did not say whether Remini had any connection to the case, but a source told the site that Remini had filed the report shortly after cutting ties with the church last month.
Previous reports indicated that the "King of Queens" star left the church because it allegedly bars members from questioning leaders' management and reportedly forces them to "disconnect" from family members deemed "suppressive persons" if they choose to leave the church.
Remini told People that "no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to."
Any previous tension Remini may have had with the church is surely being exacerbated amid these most recent reports.
In the past, Remini was allegedly derided by Tommy Davis, the former head of the Scientology Celebrity Centre, for asking about Shelly Miscavige's whereabouts at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding in 2006. The incident was among the alleged reasons that Remini broke ties with the church. Davis reportedly scolded her and told her she didn't have the "rank" to ask about Shelly.
Former Village Voice editor Tony Ortega runs the Scientology blog Underground Bunker, which chronicles the church's inner workings. Ortega, whose reliability has been denounced several times by the church, reported that Remini filed the report recently. He also said that in 2006 Shelly was transferred to a "secret compound near Lake Arrowhead in the mountains above Los Angeles." The place is the headquarters to the Church of Spiritual Technology and is home to about a dozen Scientologists who are "completely cut off from the outside world," he said.

The church's response was that this is "harassment."

Tony's partner is a breath of fresh air. The only bully here is Scientology.

How much do you think TFW made with Multiple Blessings? I wonder if she was counting on making a LOT of money with this book. Ruh Roh

This is part of what RH wrote in his book KG HSFTW:

"Kate Gosselin couldn’t even come up with an original book title for herself. She had to steal one from someone else who wrote about the exact same subject. Not very unique at all, are you Katie Irene?

Multiple Blessings sold in excess of 523,000 copies. It was a very popular book. Not as popular as you thought though.

Because of Kate’s manager, Julie May’s creativity, they included copies of Multiple Blessings directly into the contract for Kate’s speaking engagements. 500 books were built in every time Kate went somewhere to speak. Now that’s how you pad the numbers! Best selling author my rear end. They forced that book on anyone who wanted to book Kate to speak."

Check out this comment:

I live about 15 minutes from her. She has always been a money hungry, nasty bitch. At the height of her "fame" she would go to the grocery store with 2 bodyguards and have them stand at each end of the aisle she was shopping in, blocking anyone else from going into that aisle

I think that was her 3rd set. I recall they did an episode that revolved around Whirlpool/GM gifting them with ALOT of stainless silver applications. That was months after they moved to the new house. I don't think she would move to the new house without a washer/dryer already installed ahead of time. They must not have left both sets but rather took one with them to be able to wash clothes at the new house until Whirlpool gifted them with MORE applications. So that had to be the 3rd set. One of the current set is red which I think is from the old house and she was gifted another set in that episode. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Are paid product reviews really that common? I ask this seriously. I thought that was sort of an outdated practice. Especially since I think most people don't put a lot of weight in a paid endorsement when you can get objective ones all over the internet. The internet has become review town in the last few years, being a Yelper or Amazon reviewer is the in thing.

What with Amazon, all you have to do is throw any product on there and the reviews will roll in. There's nothing wrong about contacting a customer and saying if you would be so kind we'd appreciate you leave us an honest amazon.com review. Thanks! People will. A lot of sites give you incentives for reviewing a lot of products and there's no problem if you want to give everything a bad review.

Then you can quote some of the best reviews and/or refer people to the review page for a link. Simple as that. It seems to me 350, or 500, is a waste of money, and I scratch my head whether that really is common industry practice. From my experience, what IS common is various companies sending celebs tons of free products with no strings attached, just with a note saying "hope your kids enjoy!" on the off chance they will be seen with the product or mention the product. You may cast a wide net to 100 celebs and only get a few takers. For instance NoNetz might send Brad Pitt's sons their trunks as Christmas gifts and then hope the kids wear them when they're photographed on the beach. But there is no actual cash involved or any kind of deal, just a gift. Then they can link to the pap photos and say look, the Pitts love our trunks! No child labor laws involved, no money changing hands, no need that I see to disclose any kind of relationship. I thought this was what is much more common. Even Em Tanner I think did that, if I recall correctly Hailey Berry's kid was seen with some of her things.

Our Miele dishwasher gives error codes/messages, but it's kind of a useless function since every error code has required a mechanic. It's NOT do it yourself kind of stuff. Plus these are electrical appliances, I really think people need to draw the line there. Unless you are 100% sure you know exactly what you are doing, a mechanic should be called. It's not the same as fixing a sink or toilet, which I'm happy to try first before calling anyone, and have been successful. It's not like anyone gets electrocuted running a coat hanger down the sink.

For instance, does Kate even know it's really best to flip the power off on the panel when investigating anything on a dryer? A lot of people don't do this.

They're right. It is just a product review. There's nothing bad about it. It's pretty bad that Kate Gosselin can't even review a product without her bullies following her and making it an unpleasant experience.*******

Actually, it's too bad Kate can't stop using her children for profit.
If she did the review without using her boys' images, I'd call it a day. But, she used their images, NN used their images, and she tried to double dip. Not only did she get bathing suits and $350, she used that review and in particular, much sought after from their fan's, photos of her boys to lure eyeballs to her site, which buried the review at the bottom of the main page, while prominently featuring her cookbook "above the fold".

~~~~~~~~
When it involved electricity, a professional is a must.
Our dryer kept flipping its fuse and I would just go downstairs and flip it back--until last week, when I went downstairs and smelled something faintly like melted wax.
Thank goodness we have a contract with a company (plumbing, electrical etc) and got a repairman out in hours.
The fuse and the dryer weren't the same amperage or wattage or something like that. Never knew!
I never leave the dryer on when not home, and since DH did a minor repair, where he had to remove the bottom panel, we now routinely take it apart a bit to really get at the lint.
What was collected there over years was frightening.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Amazon does email you but a lot of people just ignore the message, which is why it's nice for the company to contact customers as well. I'm more likely to bother if the company itself asks me for it.
The incentive Amazon has is being a "top reviewer." I don't care about that, but a lot of people do. It comes with perks, one of them being you're a judge in Amazon's annual Breakthrough Novel contest. It's not an incentive that interests me but you'd be surprised how many people are desperate to be a top reviewer. As long as your reviews are honest it doesn't matter whether they're good or bad.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
There are almost 3,000 dryer fires a year and about five deaths a year. The number one cause is failure to properly clean the lint. And not just in the lint trap, in the many other areas it gets trapped.
How about have adults test the trunks for her review? THey make the trunks for adults too. Invite Mr. Smith and Steve over to see if it cures their chaffing problems. That would be totally fine.
Yes, it's too bad the children have to be invoked in every single cotton-pickin' thing she does. And then to use a promise of an updated pic of the boys as bait and further to splash cookboook ads above the review first before you ever get to it, is pretty low.
Now, Em Tanner I can really see would have had no earthly idea what she was getting into with Kate.
She has first-hand knowledge of Kate's metamorphosis from a nice suburban mom to demanding diva.
NN just didn't do their homework. Kate had just filed to sue the father of her children, stating that she vowed to go after the bullies, and when she found it was Jon, well, she didn't change her course.
It's sickening. You act like a grown up and talk. You work hard to remediate and bury the hatchet for the sake of your children.
Did Kate even try to talk to Jon? No, they don't even speak. So, I'm guessing they didn't try to hash things out, didn't seek a professional counselor, a mediator or heck, even their old pastor!
House is worth>$996,286.00, House originally bought for>$1,120,000
property Tax>$17,303
est.mortage>$6,783.
The 7,095 ft, house sits on 23.88 arces
has 6 beds, 7 baths. The recent pic shows that Kate has fenced off the back of the property, fencing off the long strip of the property. That part of the property is used for nothing.
I only look this up cause of a comment on rol article. I would say Kate is very well off to afford this house & property & maintence. If you look on mapquest, the fence behind the house has been moved. It is in a different place on Zillow.
At the end of the episode, Kate said, "This was strictly a trip to raise awareness for this wonderful cause.”
Liar.
The "Give Back" episode was the worst form of deceit. It was a promotional spot for a movie simply disguised as a Kate Gosselin charitable endeavor. According to a contract Robert included in his book, Kate was paid a tidy $10,000 to gush about the Universal Pictures' Despereaux movie and its product tie-ins. That sum was in addition to her standard $22,500 pay per episode.
I think Duck Dynasty is going to burn itself out, as an entity, because of over-saturation of the market. Three different Duck Dynasty books out now, with two more on the way? A Duck Dynasty guest appearance on a network tv show (I can't remember which one, but I saw the commercial last night). I think they are "striking while the iron is hot" and I don't blame them, but too much of anything is still too much.
However, one thing I believe about the Duck Dynasty people is that they had a viable business and source of income prior to the show, and will still have that business/income once the show is over. I think they were already fairly well off, so the income from the show is icing on the cake. I just hope being so much in the public domain is not hard on their marriages.
Or, if you are like me, I go to My Account, look at my recent purchases, and click the link so that I can add my own review of the product. I do that if I really love the item, or if I was really disappointed for some reason.
The only incentive is simply to provide possible purchasers of my opinion of the product. There is never any tangible reward, such as store credit from the seller, or discounts on my next purchase from Amazon.
Millicent said...
If I think a product review is a paid endorsement, I'm not going to take it as seriously as I would an unsolicited review from the average consumer. Knowing Kate got paid not only in swim wear but actual money to write a review for NoNetz, means that I wouldn't expect anything but a rave review from her. Same for any paid endorsement - I'd have to try the product myself and see if it was worth the hype.
That's why I prefer to read reviews on Amazon or on Yelp or elsewhere. (I refuse to purchase an Angie's List subscription!) Sometimes, you can tell when a review is puffery, maybe left by a friend of the owner. They are usually short on detail and long on vague praise. But the reviews that do go into some detail, offer good descriptions, and thoughtful opinions are very helpful.
And that she's going to use *their* blog post to drive eyes to *her* website where she's hawking her book.
The company might have a vague idea who she is, has probably heard something vague about Jon being a deadbeat dad, none of which they check out. They're just so excited to have this person associate with them.
They have NO idea of the child exploitation involved.
And that BV will be sicc'd on them. Just who an up and coming company wants to be associated with.
The recent pic shows that Kate has fenced off the back of the property, fencing off the long strip of the property. That part of the property is used for nothing.
According to Berk's public record she also filed a ACT 319 CLEAN AND GREEN. She claims using part of the land for hay and chickens. Interesting that it was filed in Maryland. Isn't that where rat claws has his home? This must give her a tax break. Now we know why she has all those chickens.
Silimom #74. I didn't take your words as being patronizing in any way. I love your posts and always look forward to reading them.
I am concerned about Robert and Jon, I understand they may be aware of what they are taking on. I just wanted to show the depths of depravity and the lengths Randazza and his crew will take to shut them up and get rid of blogs and bloggers. I'm trying hard here to explain, so forgive my ramblings.
Their war on Crystal goes back a long way and she was trying to explain in less than twenty minutes what she has endured for years. Just who was involved in the cover up and how far and wide it spread. I akin it to how one does an ancestry search for a family tree.
Just like Crystal I'm not very good at explaining things either. But if you follow her links they will show it more clearly.
Obviously nefarious people are reading this blog and my links to Crystal. I am starting to get some backlash for doing so. My email address and personal stuff has been outed already. I guess 'certain people' didn't like what l did.
I was thinking more about NN....what about their personal and business values? How are they reconciling those values with their decision to support a known child exploiter and parental alienator?
Are they being authentic? Do they truly support parental alienation in their personal lives? How does supporting a child exploiter reconcile with their mission statment?
Part of their mission statement:
we can help our sister build a better, more comfortable life for her and her family.
At any cost? At the cost of making life more miserable for 3 little kids?
Kids for whom you don't even know the law about modeling? You chose to take advantage of 3 little kids, slammed their dad....just so you could make life better for your sister?
NN's statement said that they didn't send anything free to TFW. Ok.
So how *did* she get the swimsuits? Are they saying she paid for them?
Their next paragraph says that they sent her the product, and her payment. THEN she writes the review.
Hmmmm...I wonder what would have happened if she stiffed them like she did with that vendor from Blogher. Would they have asked for the swimsuits back? And their payment?
NN stated they did not know all this about TFW. They may just remember her as the woman with lots of kids and a TV show that was popular. Sure, they should have checked into this before making any decisions. But I really don't think they knew any of the mess since the show was on the air.
Didn't they claim that they really didn't know that much about her before they jumped into this relationship? They may have known that she was "famous" for having eight kids, but exploitation and being a parental alienator most likely didn't even enter their minds. They probably just thought she's a mom who had a reality show on television.
So many thoughts, so little time. But this is bothering me at the moment. Someone posted that her house has 6 bedrooms. We know from the handbook she wrote for CWS that the twins share a room, and the little girls and little boys share rooms. She also has said the bedrooms are small - we saw that on CWS. Kate has the master downstairs, so what are the other two bedrooms being used for? Why not give the kids some space? Are the two other bedrooms for "not a nanny" ? Sad that the children can't even enjoy the space of the house they bought.
Also, old thought. Red in Polly's blog that for thanksgiving 2009 Steve and Gina stayed in the guest house that Jon lived in when they were sharing the house after being separated. Polly called Jon to let him know, and Jon was pissed for many reasons, one being that his personal stuff was in the guest apartment. While I have no reason to doubt Roberts version of how he got her diary, it seems important to note that she gave access to his stuff to other people (gee, wonder if Gina had reasons to snoop?)
It's way too quiet. Her timeline is dead, fans and non-fans are mostly silent, even some of the bv minions are either on Twitter lockdown or not tweeting. Whenever this has happened in the past, something big breaks. Maybe everyone's simply worn out from nonet-gate and bv-gate. Or maybe she's finally finished?
*****
One can hope, can't they? But I think it has more to do with the whole NoNetz fiasco. I think that the non fans who colorfully criticized the company were put off by the police report statement and of course BullyVille's involvement. The last time her twitter went dead like this seemed to be right after the whole Bullyville fiasco started.
I really hope her haters start to realize that she's not worth their time and energy. I even think that it's not Kate herself they enjoy going after but her fans. The haters on twitter are like a kid poking a beehive. Eventually the bees get mad and come out to attack. And it goes both ways.
Maybe the thing to do is start a website and call it "Troll.com" and all those people who just have to spew their vile hatred can come and do it there. Then they could leave the internet to the rest of us in peace.
I wonder if maybe, just maybe there is some introspection going on here.
All this over a $350 buck blog post. Really? Like I said when this first happened, couldn't most nurses make at least $350 in just one weekend? 17.5 hours of work at just 20 bucks an hour is $350 bucks. That's two days' work. At 30 bucks an hour it's only 11 hours. By the time she picks up the trunks, scowls at someone holding the door for her, has the kids test run them, gets some professional in there to take their pics, taps out the pathetic little review and then deals with all the fallout, you're looking at 11 hours at least. And a nursing job or other jobs are consistent. This is not.
Even assuming every single person just loved loved loved the review, is this really a "career"? I mean these reviews are so few and far between and for such a low fee, how is this going to help put much of a dent in anything?
That said, even if you take away every single person who has been following this saga closely, we still have tons of people who think she's a has been and joke. Even the media is spinning everything negatively now. Even if she got rid of all of us, what is she left with? She's still left with boatloads of people who think she is a pathetic and hysterical has been.
Introspection would be a good thing here. There are eight kids to think about here, and it's time to think about long term plans. Let's be realistic, NoNetz is not a long term solution for any family. I would actually like to think this is what is going on, although knowing TFW maybe not.
I feel sorry for Kate these days.She can't win.She wrote a review and couldn't help using the boys. She knows people want her to do something to earn money w/o using the kids.It could have been a little review, get her name out in a favorable light. I think she has no one as trusted adviser. Reportedly,who was the last person she took advise from Steve on the "not a boob job." Jon was probably one of the last that she blew threw at full steam. Jon has not blown her up, he could have come out and told all about the fake vow renewal, but he has never done so. She was a big money maker for TLC and they knew her horrid behavior was bringing in the ratings and they just let her roll with the bad behavior. She couldn't control herself and most likely thought she knew better than everyone else,the gravy train would continue. Kate could have had so many opportunities for future work, somewhere in TV, if she just became a little humble. She could have inked a family commercial, endorsing a food product, where there would have been over site for the "working kids" no negative associated with it, money deposited directly to the children's account. She could have asked Paula Dean, Rachel Ray or other TLC chef, for some cooking lessons, be featured guest on a show. Kate has no filter. Kate unfortunately proves time and again, what does she have to offer? She "plays" the part of Ms. Organized, but panics because one of two washing machines, dryers or dish washers isn't working. What happened to the "household manual" she was putting together. Then she's spotted out at dinner. So much for the laundry panic. She spouts all this stuff, not realizing that people have memories of her nonsense. Kate could sign up for a class in writing, blogging, photography, food and nutrition. A few hours a week a few hundred bucks at a local college. Same goes for lackluster "coupon" site. From what I've seen/heard most don't work or are the same discounts you get going directly to a store's web site. If you're really a great "couponer" how do you use the weekly newspaper inserts and combine them with the store discount programs? She has never gone into any detail about actually saving one dollar. Just hype. Okay Kate, I have 4 inserts in my newspaper this week, how do I make use of all the coupons. I don't buy all the processed, pre packaged meals. How do you save when you cook "organically". I don't do organic, but I don't do canned, packaged, processed either. Where is some savings on fresh veggies? She could have tweeted about doing homework just like her kids. She'd look like she was trying to better yourself. Instead she gives the perception, she is lazy and doesn't really put forth an effort in anything she does. She is very fortunate she has money and doesn't have to work at a mediocre job. She tweets about another new Audi, goes to the Kentucky Derby (hoping to get noticed)? How is that a struggling "single mom"? I hope she does have the money to keep the kids in their school. They deserve to be happy, but if not, she can find a less expensive 4 or 5 bedroom house. Does she need extra rooms now for staff? She gives the impression she's roaming around big empty house while the kids are in school. Well make use of that time, do your laundry, cooking, cleaning, feed the darn chickens. Why do the kids have a 52 point check list, when they've been in school all day and have homework to do. The kids seem to have no release. Has she once talked about the boys playing with trucks in the dirt or swinging, making forts, running around on all that land, roller blading down the long driveway. She could do that, great exercise. What good does all that do them, if the cannot enjoy any of it. Big hairy deal, they get to swim in the pool.
kate's Cart said...
Sorry Admin - Part II of previous post.
Everything she says or tweets comes off as unbelievable. How about "I weeded the garden, swept the front walk, trimmed the grass, while the kids played, rode their bikes, played tag, set up the croquet set, badminton, played with the new volley ball set I bought them. For a wealthy family, they don't seem to have the simpliest of fun activities besides a pool and some legos and candy at the bottom on a popcorn bowl. I'll trade my mediocre happy children's lives in a minute for what she seems to offer those kids. They remember the visits to the beach, fall fairs, petting zoos, ice cream after the beach, an afternoon of mini golf, a movie on a rainy afternoon, an overnight with their grammy and grampy and watching any cartoon they wanted. If that is mediocre, I can die a happy mama knowing I did great by my kids. I believe she's very lonely, no friends, no family. She can't even have a dinner with her children and their father, how sad is that?
Boy, did they miss an opportunity of a lifetime! Phil Robertson and family worked and built DD from scratch and are multi-millionaires.
But what I love about them, is they are family first, and pray at the supper table. A&E wanted to stop doing that part and Mr. Phil said absolutely not, we will quit.
And that was that.
It's not that she just doesn't get it, it's that she refuses to admit defeat. She WILL NOT be intimidated by the haters and non-fans come hell or high water. She would rather have a six people show up for her book signing than back down and give in to her detractors. That's ballsy and that's Kate. Her t-shirt for the marathon said something like I'm running this race for all the people who said I won't be able to do it. Enough said.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
The funny thing about the marathon is that if you read most comments carefully, most people were saying the reason she probably wouldn't be able to do it was due to what she has said about her skimpy diet and even skimpier training schedule and times. It wasn't just na-na you can't do it! Like a mean parent would tell their child you can't be a doctor you won't amount to anything. That wasn't what that was--It was simply making an observation that usually marathons aren't completed without training much more hard core. We had several runners here who knew a lot about it and provided good insight. Run a marathon. Whatever. People were just pointing out that her diet and exercise program and times was unlikely to cut it, that's all. If she was able to run a marathon given that kind of mediocre training, great, but it's very dangerous. That's when doing everything half-baked catches up eventually.
Tucker's Mom said...
I don't believe Kate ran a full marathon. Between her poor diet and nonsensical "training", it's just highly unlikely.
What struck me the most was her account of how she felt after, which doesn't make sense. Your first marathon leaves you feeling like you've been hit by a truck. It takes days to recover.
The bs she spewed after about being back in high heels the next day just gilded the lily a bit much. Then when she back peddled her account of the post run, she bemoaned being in pain, which completely contradicted her initial account.
Not sold by a mile. By a marathon.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
I remember her pre-race meal was a bit odd. I can't remember what it was other than I'm pretty sure it was full of sugar, maybe French toast? Which will just make you crash on mile 8. No traditional pasta dinner beforehand, a bit odd.
There were a lot of red flags that would seem off even to someone who simply read a wikipedia article on training for marathons and the runners here confirmed. While it's always possible it went exactly the way we saw it, it's unlikely. That's how TFW rolls, endless unlikely scenarios we are always asked to believe is the God's honest truth.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NFpSXVmQJgw&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DNFpSXVmQJgw
Touching. Look, not everyone gets along with their families, but most who do not have substitute families in their good friends, their church circles, etc. Their kids have adults who function as aunts/uncles/grandparents, and other kids who are close like cousins. They celebrate birthdays, holidays and take vacations together. The Gosselin children, in comparison, are being raised in incredible social isolation - they have each other, school, their crazy mother and their father. IMHO this is far from normal.
I've only ever seen a triathlon, but at the finish line everyone looked terrible. Many were vomiting, most were drenched in sweat, some shivering. Most collapsed at the finish line either completely to the ground or at least holding their knees. No one looked anything close to fresh. In fact the vomiting was so ubiquitous I had to go somewhere else for fear I'd be sick myself. That was the first and last race I ever watched. :)
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Yes that was it. Good chef.
Half a slice of french toast drenched in sugar and corn syrup. A few other pastries equally full of sugar. You would collapse by mile 12 on that.
I'm surprised they would serve that kind of thing at a marathon unless she was just at some 5 star hotel and not hanging out at hotels the other runners were at.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
Just from about.com, they recommend a small breakfast 90 minutes before the race with a mixture of protein and carbs:
Kate's badly tanking book sales are not only going to hurt her pocketbook but any person who may be interested in pursuing anything business related with her will definitely re-think it when s/he finds out about her bombing book sales. There is a very strong correlation between her popularity and her book sales. The great, great majority of her sales is because that person likes her. The general public is not going to buy her cookbook because she is known for her great cooking. It is not going to happen. Especially with all the great cookbooks on the market today (by great celebrities too). And her sales scream how unpopular she is now. And she has to know that her sales figures will be used against her as she continuing to pursue her Hollywood dream life of fame and fortune being back on Tv/radio, etc. I think this book and lawsuit may just finish her off for good.
Her only chance of ever being back on tv would be a reunion type of show that highlights how her kids have grown. And I hope the kids would be against this more and more as they get older. If it is true about TLC not filming the family again without John, then another network may film a reunion show without him though. But if this reunion show ever made to our tv's, it would be a one time deal and hopefully Kate herself would not get a big paycheck from it. The kids would hopefully get their own paycheck that they can each take to the bank.
So I think Kate's days are over from earning any big bucks ever again. And I still believe TV Guide magazine that Kate did instead earn $250,000 an episode for Kate Plus 8. They are an extremely reputable magazine that knows it way around the TV industry. She was at the height of her popularity at this time when she signed for Kate Plus 8. She was promoting TLC on DWTS on ABC. That was worth a lot of money to TLC just for that alone. TLC had already earned hundreds of millions off of the family so why not pay her that amount for a family of 9. That is the money that she is living off of. And I think she has enough of it to put all her 8 kids through college too. Yep, she has several million no doubt socked away while still crying poor. Pathetic all the way around.
Leslie - She had a "reunion" show, of sorts, when she did wife swap. People were able to tune in and see how the kids had grown and what they were (or rather, weren't) up to.
I don't see her being on television again except *maybe* for some interviews about the cookbook/lawsuit.
It's kind of sad, actually, how much energy she puts into trying to *not* work a regular, mediocre job. She truly is the fisherman's wife from the Grimm's fairytale who keeps sending her husband back time and time again to the magic fish to ask for more and more power and material wealth. She just can't be satisfied with what she has.
I don't know whether or not she's sitting on a lot of money. Only time will tell.
Oh, Clipper, do your homework. Kate doesn't have celebrity demands. Working moms doing it 9-5, 5 days a week have demands.
Kate's got no job, kids away at school all day long, so how exactly is this "tugging" at her.
But, you're right about managing the coupon site. She doesn't give it the time of day.
Must be embarrassing for Clipper.
I think Kate must do an excellent sales pitch. New things are very shiny to her and she LOVES to mastermind deals. Her journal is chock full of this. Truly, she looks good on paper, but when the rubber meets the road, ya got nothing.
Clipper really shouldn't boast that Kate's a former Coupon Cabin blogger since she was publicly and humiliatingly shit canned.
No, no, no Silimom #184, my kneecap comment wasn't directed toward anyone here. Reading through the links Heido Hi Heido Ho posted (and more that I came across) I saw some references to kneecap breaking among other things. People here are allowed to have their own opinions and debate without being threatened or antagonized. That's recognized and I apologize my comment came across that way.
Like Heido Hi Heido Ho said about herself and Crystal Cox I am also not very good at explaining myself. That's why I usually keep my mouth shut.
I just took another look at PopeHat's blog and agree with some of what he/they say. It has some content that gives a story, without telling you one allowing you to think for yourself. I appreciate that from any blogger, reporter, etc., but in no way would I ever trust him.
I have noticed him tweeting with Bullyville, Fishtown Lawyers and Randazzo about things that had nothing to do with Hunter Moore case. This does run deep. Not making any accusations, just a general observation.
Admin, I also appreciate you allowing the links Heido Hi Heido Ho posted. I'm sorry they are strong arming you Heido Hi Heido Ho, goes to show what they are really all about. In a way I wish I never knew about Bullyville, Kate Gosselin, etc., but can't look away or stop doing my own research.
Well, it's really not coupons for rich people, which is ironic, isn't it, since Kate eschews "mediocre'. But, that's the audience for coupon sites.
Last week, she twitted about $5 off dog food and it was a total blunder.
She linked to her main coupon site, not the specific coupon. Searching for said coupon brought zero results because the dog food name was SPELLED WRONG on the coupon site.
Kate's got to get it out of her head that going her her main pages somehow gives her sites a boost. She has to link directly to what she's addressing in her tweets.
She pulled the same stunt with her paid endorsement for NoNetz.
I don't know if Kate is that technically illiterate, or if she's willfully ignorant.
For the person who asked...and it's a little sad that I remember this...the 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms also includes the above-the-garage apartment. I remember the episode when they moved in, they said they had 5 bedrooms (presumably the other bedroom is in the apartment), because they gave Hannah her own room because she had sleep issues with the other kids. I was onto Kate by then and remember thinking "that witch is now openly favoring Hannah!". Later on she admitted (via twitter? or was it one of her "Ask Kate" shows?)that that Hannah moved back in with the other girls.
I also remember thinking, "they're paying all this extra money for a house with SMALLER bedrooms than their last house?!?". The only advantage they got was more bathrooms (which they could have added to their last house) and a HUGE master bedroom. I understand they wanted privacy, but are you telling me out of all the homes in the area, they couldn't find one with bigger bedrooms for those kids?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a snob. Kids are resilient and can live just about anywhere. If all you can afford is small bedrooms, then whatever, they'll survive. But these kids had HUGE rooms in their last house, and now they're cramped. For what purpose? What did they gain from moving? They didn't...Kate did. That made me mad at the time, which is probably why I remember it.
If it is true about TLC not filming the family again without John, then another network may film a reunion show without him though.
========
My guess would be that she can't shop a reunion show to another network because TLC owns the rights to J&K+8 as well as K+8. Look at how TLC tied Jon's hands. They've probably done the same with TFW. I'm sure she had to run her CWS appearance in front of someone to ensure no terms of any contract were being violated. Karma's a bit h sometimes.
Me too. Friend of a friend created a show mildly successful in the 80's. She has wanted to do a reunion show for 20 years. But the network won't let her do it. They won't give up the rights. And they won't do a reunion show themselves (Reunion shows sort of fell out of fashion a decade ago). So her hands are tied, even though apparently a lot of fans want it.
Even though all "100,000" of her fans were told about. Even lower than what I thought they would be. That was my first realization/proof that wow she really does not have very many fans left. That they had abandoned her in droves since Kate Plus 8. Going by those numbers would be a good indication of what kind of sales she's likely to make doing most anything--not much.
If you think about it too, it's probably a smart idea not to let another network hijack your show, in most cases. Unless it's a network you can really trust and the numbers are good.
Kate Plus 8 was TLC's "brand." What if a different network did a reunion special and the family was shown cursing and throwing wild parties at the house and what if they changed the whole format to save money or something so that the whole thing looked D list-budget. It's TLC's "brand" and they wouldn't want the premise of their brand changed significantly. If I were them I wouldn't even be happy on CWS, although they can't stop that since it's not their show. The thing is, many viewers might not even notice or think about it being on a different network. It will still be TLC's Gosselins to them. So that's probably a big reason networks won't give up the rights even though they themselves may have no intentions whatsoever of ever doing a reunion in a million years. It's just frustrating for those who might want it and would like to be free of their shackles to do it.
I always thought that was an example of such poor role modeling for her kids. That it is somehow wrong to respect your own fears, especially if there is a big reward for it. Because, the way that may translate to the kids, would be to go along with someone who is engaging in risky behavior, like drugs or sex. The reward for that behavior would be love and acceptance.
I think it is more important to model respect for what our emotions are telling us. There were many other ways to confront that fear--I would have respected her a lot more if she had backed down, and told the kids that she just wasn't ready, and that it is OK to respect your fears.
Having said that, I think the only show that anyone would watch would be Kate engaging in fearful, perilous or dangerous situations. Maybe she got a big bonus for that jump. Nothing would surprise me at this point.
Well said. We're not talking about trying to get over your fear of walking outside every day. It's a fear of bungie jumping. Perfectly normal. Plus, there have been countless bungie jumping accidents. You should be afraid, lol.
I would never look down on anyone for looking at that thing and saying, no I'm going to pass. I would never remotely think, oh well they need to get over their fear. There would be nothing wrong with telling the kids in Mommy's gut I don't feel good about it, I'm just not ready and may never be. It's okay to say no if something doesn't feel right. It's okay to have fears as long as they don't control your life. This doesn't control my life.
She taught her kids nothing except it's okay to hold up the group and everyone else behind you wanting a turn while you putter around being dramatic (the man helping them even said if she was a paying customer he would have taken her off by now), and that it's okay to behave like a hysterical sobbing banshee and let your emotions control you while your SIX YEAR OLDS comfort you.
For the person who asked...and it's a little sad that I remember this...the 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms
&&&
I was thinking about this 6 bedroom thing. The problem is the way the genders worked out. The twins can buddy up, which makes sense, but then you've got three girls and three boys. They're too old to pair up with opposite genders. Which leaves you with only two options as I see it. Two girls together and one alone, and two boys together and one alone. Or all three girls together all three boys together. There aren't enough bedrooms to give them all their own rooms.
In most families, that kind of two-one split would cause problems, by either isolating one of the three from the group while the two paired up bond, or by making two of them jealous and resentful of the one who gets his or her own room.
It would have been perfect for all those bedrooms if the tups were four boys and two girls, or four girls and two boys. That way they can split them 2-2-2 among three bedrooms. Unfortunately that's not how it worked out.
What if someone said hey can you show me where to find the Top 10 Worst moments lists on your site, and I said sure go to realitytvkids.com? That's just obnoxious, not to mention lazy.
There is a simple solution to this. PW does it. Make a SIDEBAR that appears on every page. Slap your cookbook in the sidebar. That way, no matter where you link on the site, they see the cookbook. Then readers won't be frustrated and annoyed, and you still get to peddle your cookbook. Win-win.
That said, does she honestly think there's any fan that hasn't heard of the cookbook by now. We're really fishing in the deep end of the ocean now for sales.
Good point Tucker, Elaine needs to be able to cite Jon and Kate whenever they ask her about how TLC made it. It would look odd to let another network take it over. It would be a terrible PR move, like they're dumping their pride and joy somewhere else. Giving up their baby. It's not going to happen.
I'll say it, TLC is never releasing the rights to this show. Never. She either has to suck it up and do a show with Jon, or there will be no show. Not only does she put hatred for her children's father over love for her children, she puts this hatred over love for her fans too.
ExNurse, I totally agree. Kate was a wreck, an absolute mess. I didn't come down hard on Kate for being a bitch to Brad(?) at the top of the sky jump thing because she was like a scared feral animal, lashing out.
What I fault her for is letting the show and her ego pressure her into doing something she wouldn't want to do.
Some people don't like that sort of thing, like me. Base jumping, rock climbing and sky diving are not on my list of things to do. Mostly because of fear, but it's not like doing any of the above interferes with my life. Like my fear of flying, which I'm dealing with and doing successfully now.
Some people have no fear of heights and a sense of adventure and those things are enjoyable and memorable for them. Great.
Some people are true thrill seekers and live for that rush. Great. Risky lifestyle, but great.
Me and people like me who would be in extremis? No way. From what I witnessed, that's Kate's category too and you have to know yourself enough to feel confident in saying "I really don't need to prove anything here".
As a foodie, I draw the line there too. I don't care if you think I'm less adventurous or a lesser foodie (or whatever word you use) because I'm not into sushi, or fish eggs of any kind or fatty goose liver. I have nothing to prove and don't think my life any less full because I don't go there culinary-wise.
I don't like snake oil salesmen. A simple analytics program will tell you exactly how much traffic and clicks the site is really getting. Why not disclose those ballpark numbers? A link and twitter followers doesn't mean squat unless people are going. And especially when the health of her twitter account shows that many of those followers are just dead accounts or bots. I could put a link here for toothbrushes but doesn't mean a darn thing if no one clicks on it.
The thing is too, certain fears are rational and should be listened to. We have fears of certain things because that's what keeps us safe.
IMO, a fear of heights is rational and common. Humans were not meant to scale tall buildings attached to a bungie cord. And many accidents have occurred as we try to do something irrational. If you have a fear of something, and are able to say objectively that yes this fear is very rational, reasonable and common and my life will not be adversely affected if I pass on this particular activity, then just accept that's a fear of yours and move on. Who cares. I will never like snakes, so why would I poke around in the brush trying to find one to "conquer" this perfectly rational fear? Silly.
RadarOnline did a story about Dave Hester from Storage Wars and said that his contract for that season of 26 episodes was for $25,000 per episode. If the whole cast, which is made up of 4-6 others, was receiving $100-150,000/episode, it's very possible that they were paying TFW $250,000/episode for just her. And, her show was for less than 26 episodes per season.
Anyway, the info about her salary makes more sense in light of this report than it did before - I think. lol
Isn't this just a code anyone can pay to stick in their site and watch the clicks, and money, roll in? Regardless if they work or not the point is they got you to poke around Toms' site and maybe even seek out a real coupon that works and buy something. Toms gets their sale, they get their cut, regardless if they helped you, everyone wins but you who had to waste time screwing around trying to find a working coupon. Sounds like a content farm to me. It's not a fear of heights, it's a fear of jumping.
That's why something not grounded, like an airplane or hot air balloon doesn't bother you.
But standing on the top of something grounded, like a building or a cliff, and looking down scares the bejeebers out of you.
Although TFW didn't seem freaked about the Grand Canyon.
I do agree that she was freaked about the sky jump. The reaction afterward was a body reaction that she had no control over.
And I do think the only reason she did it was to show up the twin who wasn't doing it.
I don't think anyone was nitpicking your posts at all. They were simply asking a legitimate question about whether those symbols have a special meaning. I didn't get the feeling anyone was trying to ridicule you.
Sometimes graphics show up in social media places as symbols, so people are just wondering if those > symbols are a graphic or mean something special. If you use them in place of dashes, that's fine, but simply explaining that would have satisfied anyone who is confused about them.
But that's so Kate. She wants everything to be given to her on a gold platter. She goes on and on about her work ethic but frankly I haven't seen one. The people I know with strong work ethics just step up and do it. They don't talk about it ad nauseum.
I took the arrow>sign as being like a dash-- which I use a lot.
The only reason why I think TFW did the sky jump was she wanted to show up the twins.
She was in the bathroom again and Steve had to clam her again to come out of hiding.
Her ego didn't want her to be show up. If she was truly afraid of heights she would have done it.
*************************************
I totally agree. But what irks me is her re-writing history (as most narcs do) In her interview she's boasting about how she WON. Won what?? And yes, the bs slobbering was to ONE UP the twins. Again, all eyes on Mommy Dearest. Can't have the focus on the twins you know
getofftwitter said...
It means nothing, except being an arrow. It's how I think. If someone use ::::, I would not see anything or read anything of it or your finger got stuck. If you guys read too much into how people write(their style or lack of), then perhaps you need to get off the net for a while and do something else.
It's hard for me to believe anything that TFW say's or does I.E the sky jump.
It's hard for me to believe cause she's a lying drama queen.
_________
And I still believe TV Guide magazine that Kate did instead earn $250,000 an episode for Kate Plus 8.
Perhaps TLC did pay her $250k I believe it but she had to pay.
The kids $15% an her mangers $10% plus taxes so in KK's mind she really didn't make $250k.
Vanessa said...
Who cares. I will never like snakes, so why would I poke around in the brush trying to find one to "conquer" this perfectly rational fear? Silly.
*********************************************
I agree. She DIDN'T conquer though, that's why she's a stupid head.
Vanessa said...
I always thought that was an example of such poor role modeling for her kids. That it is somehow wrong to respect your own fears, especially if there is a big reward for it. Because, the way that may translate to the kids, would be to go along with someone who is engaging in risky behavior, like drugs or sex. The reward for that behavior would be love and acceptance.
**********************************************
Yes, I agree. But that's the narcissist in her. The twins CONQUERED that tower, and I must say she should have been CHEERING and PRAISING THEM. no, she has to have the attention back to her. If she refused to do it, then the twins were the "winners" that day, can't have that!
If she had done it the same as them, ah...so what. BUT you become this blubbering hysterical idiot and now you've got EVERYONE'S attention AND SYMPATHY. Don't think she hasn't pulled that sH$%# before with those kids, especially behind closed doors.
What's the point? Why include the arrow, when it has no meaning and serves no purpose, other than to make it harder to read what you write? Is it an attention-getting device and nothing more?
I won't make any more of it, but I won't be reading anything you post either, as long as you feel the need to toss in extra symbols for no reason whatsoever. If you really want to express an opinion and have it read by others, you would probably be better served by eliminating unnecessary junk from whatever you post.
Same paragraph as above, but with useless symbols added:
I won&t make any more of it >, but I won&t be reading anything you post either, ? as long as you feel the need to to$$ is extra symbols *for no reason whatsoever*. If you really ^ want to express an opinion ! and have it read@ by others, you would probably be #better served# by eliminating % unnecessary junk ^ from whatever you post.#
Which one is easier to read and understand?
I agree. Remember that classic Clint Eastwood line from one of his movies? "A man's got to know his limitations." So does a woman. I am not technically afraid of heights, but I get dizzy and feel like I'll fall down when I am at a height, so it's basically the same thing. I first discovered this when riding a very long escalator years ago, and about halfway up I looked down, and suddenly felt like I was going to go tumbling down the entire stairs. I gripped the railing and made it to the top but my heart was racing.
Same thing happened years later when I got on a big ferris wheel at the fair with my then young son. We got stopped while at the top and I started to panic. I did manage to remain calm but it was a terrifying experience.
So I know my limitations, and I don't need to push myself into a situation sure to send me into a panic, just to prove I can. But the worst part about what Kate did was she wanted to show up one of her own kids. What kind of faulty human being wants to do that?
Millicent said...
Thanks for the article it was great. Hands down Breaking Bad is the best show I have ever seen in my life. Not just slightly edging out other shows. The best show by a MILE. And it's just getting better. They are going to end it perfectly, I know it. Whatever that is.
*******
I agree! This series is one that I am going to purchase on DVD when I have the money, so that periodically, I can rewatch it, just as I re-read some of my favorite books. I cannot praise it enough for the caliber of the acting, the writing, the drama, the suspense. It's more real than any reality tv show.
Bryan Cranston, in the role of his lifetime. I remember he played dentist Tim Whatley on Seinfeld, the one who converted to Judaism "for the jokes" according to Jerry. He has a brief passionate romance with Elaine, after she accuses him of re-gifting her label maker! He was also terrific in Malcolm in the Middle.
But as Walter White, the mild-mannered, under-achieving high school science teacher, who morphs into Heisenberg - just wow. On another forum, someone accuses fans of glorifying the making and selling of meth, but I think this series shows that if you go down this path, it only leads to death and destruction. I don't see it as glorifying the meth trade at all. But even more, I see this show as a modern day Shakespeare play. Just incredible work by all involved.
People need to stop spreading lies about @Kateplusmy8 and her family. She's living a normal life. Why can't people respect that?
Normal? Kate? Okay, if Kate's life is normal, then I'd hate to see what it would be if like if it were abnormal!
"It's an arrow that you just throw in whenever? Are you saying it has no meaning? Then why do it? If I started to throw in ;;; everywhere I would expect people to ask what that meant."
What??>>> You just...throw in whatever<<< you want wherever you??? want them<<>>>>>
Everyone, it could also be Get's caps lock key is doing weird stuff as the ankle brackets are above "." and ",". Or she might be using a non standard keyboard.
In any case, this topic seems to be bothering her, so however innocuous you may consider it, for community's sake we should let it lie and move on.
No, but she was really off. I think she took something to calm her down. It can make the difference between night and day.
For the sky jump, no way should you have any impairment from meds, so that could explain the vast difference.
With my fear of heights, I noted the change in tolerance too.
LOL, that would explain her horsey looking facial expressions while trying to imitate the hot air noise. I'm sure there's pic of it in one of the recaps here.
I thought the person explained it in Post 172. It means nothing. Several on here respectfully asked what it means, and then got a snotty "get off the net" attitude.
Initially I thought it was some sort of word program that put in the arrows instead of Ellipses, but I guess not. I do know how to scroll, which is what I will be doing instead of getting off the net.
I agree, too...why not explain it instead of coming off as all huffy about it? It was a reasonable question, with several possibilities as answers, but the person just got defensive and said to get off the internet. I would have just laughed and said, "oops! Too much fermented grape juice. I'll do better!" But that's just me.
I've noticed that there are some posters on blogs who don't know that there are periods on the keyboard, and choose to end every sentence or thought with (....). That kind of bugs me, but not as much as disrupting sentence flow with arrows thrown in at odd places where they make no sense whatsoever.
JoyinVirginia said...
Tuckers mom, you are so right about the Dupont Circle Metro stop. That escalator is like a mile long! Well, seems like it anyway. I have a cousin who lives near there, so whenever I go to visit and take the metro there, I just have to psych myself up to go on the escalator. If I look at my hand with a death grip on the railing and count I can make it up and down the thing ok.
On nice days I have been known to hike to the next station.
