President Kennedy had Addison's disease - adrenal insufficiency, which was not the result of doing something too intense, but it was determined at autopsy that it likely was the result of a rare autoimmune disease. This autoimmune disease also was responsible for his hypothyroid condition. One of the history channels did an excellent piece on Kennedy's diseases. He had so many ailments that never were revealed to the public.

It's all over the internet that his adrenals failed from some kind of bombing or battle while he was in the war. That is the incident that kick started his Addison's. It is said that the intense stress of that situation is what shut his adrenals down. The point being, putting yourself in severely stressful situation "could" be dangerous to your health. Heart attacks, adrenal failure, strokes ( if your bp gets too high ), and some people can even develop post traumatic stress disorder and end up medicated.
The way Kate approached this situation and the reaction coming from her BEFORE she even set foot off the edge was firing off red flag after red flag that this person isn't mentally stable enough to be attempting this activity. You know how the big theme parks have those warning signs before you get on a thrill ride? They really should add being mentally stable to the requirments. That would've gotten Kate out of having to jump.
I get that there are people who do this for thrills and get a high from this stuff. To them I say go for it. Then are are the ones like Kate who shat their pants and go catatonic from fear. These types are the ones that make me wonder...why??? Why do it? It isn't going to better you in any way and will actually do the opposite. And then to turn around and claim you conquered it, when CLEARLY it conquered you.....well, I'll believe that when you can get right back up there and do it again with less drama, THEN you rocked it baby! Just like when Mady asked if they could do it again while Kate pissed her pants.

I have many British friends who deeply believe MI 5 was behind the 'accident' as they couldn't have the future King of England's mother marrying a Muslim. At the time it was thought she was pregnant (unconfirmed) with his child. She was dropping very, very broad hints about a possible pregnancy at that time.

And since she does, and since we're talking a bit about what it takes, financially, to raise a family: I know I only have one child, but my husband and I together gross nearly $100K a year. Hasn't always been like that, but for the past several years. We live in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath home that's right at 2000 square feet. A normal sized lot in a suburb of a big city.
Our daughter has gone to public school since Kindergarten, good schools here. She's looking at several public universities for a couple of years from now, when she'll be done with high school.
We were able to have her in gymnastics, soccer and basketball when she was a kid (not all at the same time!). As a middle schooler, she played violin and was a cheerleader. In high school, she was a cheerleader and ran cross country. Now she's switched to the tennis team.
She did Girl Scouts in elementary school. We've gone on several family vacations throughout her life. We don't have a lot of debt at all, mostly just the house. We own all three vehicles (she has a small used car I used to drive).
We live nicely. Granted, again, I don't have eight kids, but we didn't have a lot of kids because we felt unsure about being able to afford a big family. Plus one kid suited us down to the ground, so one it was.
There's no reason at all she can't, along with child support from Jon and all the money she's made, support those kids and herself in a perfectly comfortable manner WITHOUT continuing to sell their private lives.
Yes, she'd probably have to give up the huge country home on 24 acres. Yes, she'd have to re-think taking a limo to New York just to get her hair done. She'd have to re-consider $400 heels.
But big deal. I know people making do just fine with FAR less AND big families. It's just not that hard. But she will have to scale down a bit. She won't be living in a lean-to, but she probably can't keep up that money suck of a house and land.
I have zero sympathy for her. She's made a LOT of money, more than most people see in their lifetime. She has an ex-husband working hard to pay child support. She has more than most people can even wish for. And yet, it's never enough, is it? Her greasy paw is always out for more, more, more.

That's probably true (that it's all over the internet). There's a difference, though, between adrenal failure and insufficiency. However, the history documentary that I saw reported that he was found to have a very rare autoimmune disease and that is what triggered his Addisons and hypothyroidism. It wasn't discovered until the autopsy. There was some mention that it was previously believed to have occurred during his time in the South Pacific during World War II, but that later proved not to be true. Google Kennedy autoimmune. I haven't check it out, but I would believe it's there. There were physicians interviewed who confirmed this and even gave the name of the disease - polyendocrine something (spelling?). Apparently he was a very sickly child and had so many more ailments than ever was revealed during his presidency...very interesting documentary.
Bottom line is that she never should have jumped if she was that terrified.

Not with the lifestyle she has now. Even if she invested that two million, there is no way she could live on just the interest for the rest of her life, especially with tuition costs ($100,00 per year, which will nearly double in a few years), $4,500 mortgage per month, paid helpers, taxes, utilities, maintenance, etc. It would be gone in a few years.
I guess I will be an opposite opinion and say the ratings may go up when it returns again so although it's good to be optimistic she may regain her numbers. I hope not but I wont jump for joy over this just yet. If this becomes a constant pattern over the next few sets of shows. Then this is a prayer answered.

I used the property tax calculator tool on the Berks County site and based on the total assessed value of the property ($482500) the taxes would be $13697 less credits for the Clean and Green Act (the farm classification may lower it a bit also), but either way -- property taxes are considerably more than $6000.00 on the McMansion and it was a horrible investment both financially and socially.
Admin - I hesitate to make any suggestions or requests because I think you run such a great blog here. But, just this once, I have to do it. Have you seen the tweets today about Khate's tweet this morning with her photo of the spelling list taped to her steering wheel? I think this one deserves its own post, complete with the photo.

I've noticed her misuse of the English language more than ever lately both in listening to her talk and seeing what she says in print--too many examples to list. That's just one tax. PA is the tax state. They'll get you on spring taxes, fall taxes, and any other tax they can think of! Taxes are high, so much so that property owners will often file an appeal.
I had no idea about Zillow's estimate. I'm just going by the current market value in the area, based on what I know from looking at properties. If she could get between $650,000 and $700,000 for that, I'd grab it and run.

I'm confused (nothing new there)...I thought that the spelling list was a list of school-assigned words for the twins, and they go over them when they are in the car with her. I can't imagine that they are Kate's words. Who wouldn't know how to spell ACCIDENT? Did someone say that this was her list to use while she was tweeting while driving?
Anonymous, it's wonderful if the 2 are back in school but that doesn't mean that they weren't initially 'asked' to leave.

h8k8: I read your post incorrectly! I thought you said taxes were $16,000 not $6,000. If they are paying only $6,000 in taxes, they made out like a bandit. I paid more than double in that in taxes! I know that when a friend of mine in California was thinking about buying a property here, it was the taxes that made the decision for him not to buy!

Only 16 tweets today and it's 4:20 pm her time? Wow. That's an all-time low and by a LOT. Yesterday, she only wrote just under 40 tweets. The day before, she was well over 100.
Her all-time one-day high (it's fascinating, like a train wreck) was more than 400. In ONE DAY. And that's not even 24 hours, more like 16 hours. At one point, she was tweeting every 7-8 minutes, for hours on end, except for short breaks. I'm assuming for the bathroom.

You would be correct, admin. As was discussed here and on other blogs, it was a matter of semantics. Kindergarten doesn't use the term, "expelled," so TECHNICALLY Kate wasn't lying. However, it was a mandatory withdrawal. Conditions regarding the return of students who have been asked to leave are not the same in private schools as they are in public schools. In fact, the policy also varies among private schools.
The local newspaper printed a front-page story at the time the kids were "withdrawn." This surprised the heck out of me because one of the former execs/president of the newspaper enterprise is also a life trustee of the school. I would have thought that their relationship was such that the newspaper would have kept this hush-hush, but it didn't.
The bottom line is that Kate should not have discussed ANYTHING regarding her kids and school, and when she said that they weren't expelled, she just dug herself deeper in that hole because there are those who knew the truth and she was just playing around with words.

First of all, I'm very happy if the 2 tups were ready to go back to school and have transitioned and are doing well. It shows they've made progress and can participate in traditional classes appropriately and that's a good thing!

We do agree that she's NOT paying $6000 in taxes (it was someone else who originally said that, not me) and that she won't recoup the initial investment on the house for a LONG time. I said that I used the property tax calculator tool on the Berks County site and based on the total assessed value of the property ($482500) the taxes would be $13697 less credits for the Clean and Green Act (the farm classification may lower it a bit also),......

Although I, for one, would be delighted to hear that the two children in question are back in school after their "expulsion, suspension, temporary withdrawal" or whatever it was that Kate actually admitted to. I think it would be good for the kids.
People who have the constant need to correct other's grammar/spelling outside an English class are often just projecting their own feelings of inadequacy and insecurities about their own intelligence and abilities. Hence Kate ripping on Jon for his way of speaking when her Tweets and interviews reveal how poor her own skills are, as well as sheeple coming here and proofreading the comments trying to find any little thing out of place. They are in school uniform. Spring break was in early March.
It also could be Collin and Alexis didn't want to feel embarrassed or left out to be the only kids in regular clothes. They might feel it's just easier to throw on the white tshirts like all the other kids when they go out in public so they don't stand out or cause people to ask them questions.
It's highly suspicious they were absent from the photos just last week. They're back in school now with only a few weeks left? How does that work? Look I would be thrilled if they are back to school. Unfortunatly this photo is not proof positive they are. It's reasonable to assume they are but it can't be said with absolute certainty. I assume they are, but am not willing to say for sure.
It's sort of like if someone walks into your house soaking wet, you might assume it's raining outside. But it's also possible they fell in a pool.
It still has nothing to do with Kate lying or not. Kate admitted they were not in school and put a positive spin on it, as I hope any mother would. Well any mother inconsiderate enough to discuss the matter publically in the first place. If they're back, great, but I'm not asking Kate to make an announcement and embarrass them further.

I didn't understand your comment at first Pat so I checked out the photos at INF. Tuesday Kate picked up her SUV and then her kids at the school bus and low and behold - she only picked up FOUR tups. The photos posted at INF today show her picking up SIX. The photos prove that the 2 were not with the group being picked up Tuesday.
My guess is that the two who were expelled are not attending regular school full time and are easing back into that routine gradually. Or, she faked it.
Well if that was just on Tuesday now I'm calling B.S.
You've been out of school for almost the entire year and you start back in school the middle of the week? Seems to be it's logical to start on a Monday.
I think very likely it's just easier on the kids to dress like everyone else.

I think Kate's Skyjump response had more to do with Ashley than the jump itself. I'm just speculating here but Ashley seemed excited and positive from the start about the Skyjump. That kind of youthful enthusiasm is very attractive and often gets a positive response from surrounding people.
I'm no psychologist but I thought that flooding as a way of treating phobias works because of the time limit on the fear reaction itself. It seems like I remember seeing a video once of using flooding to treat a phobia and it was very different. Kate seemed more petulant and difficult than truly fearful to me.
I'm guessing Brad and the young Gosselins paid just a little too much attention to Ashley's excitement and Kate's reaction was a way of punishing them both.
On a completely different topic, the taped spelling list is just wrong. The driver of a vehicle should focus as fully as possible on safely operating the vehicle. This is a lesson I drill into my teenage driver. Distracted driving is extremely dangerous and you don't have to even look away from the road. Studies show just talking with a hands-free cell phone reduces your ability to drive safely.
An elementary school student's test score isn't worth the risk to other drivers. It takes very little time to drift into oncoming traffic and the results are devastating. Besides, if the twins need extra drill, they can drill each other.
I hope this isn't actually happening but rather in reality was just an attempt at humor. Perhaps her insurance carrier can explain why this is such a bad idea.
It wouldn't surprise me if the two home-schooled children were invited to participate in some sort of Easter-related class function like a party or an easter egg hunt. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they are back in school, but if they were I think it would be great, a sign that the school itself is committed to their educational well-being.

Yes! I noticed it and commented on her being nasty even in the grocery store. Her rudeness has no limits and her lack of respect for others, even as a guest in another country, is embarrassing.
I find it highly suspicious that she's suddenly attending church with her children and now there is a photo op of all six dressed in their school uniforms. Maybe the school has a six month suspension policy, but I don't believe she would attend mass unless TLC filmed it and the church donated money to her. She just continues to show her desperate need for attention and money by using her children in PR stunts.

Ashley did tweet "1 month 6 days", but Kate did not reply with "can't wait" (I went back through all of her tweets - call me anal, but I prefer to verify what I can).
I don't know what that timeline is referencing and I wouldn't be surprised if another trip is planned, but I also think it could be in reference to just about anything. Ashley attends Liberty University and coincidentally their graduation takes place on May 14 @ one month and 6 days from the date of the tweet. IMO, Ashley was talking about the upcoming graduation and not a trip, but we'll have to wait and see.

I'm going from my memory because I cannot sit through videos to back up what I'm remembering. I believe in one of her last interviews when asked about the two home schooled children, Kate replied that they are being transitioned back into school.
It wouldn't surprise me that the children are back in school, but probably not on a full-time status yet.
Her PR people are working over-time this week trying to improve her image with her show tanking. Tweeting with her fans. Jogging with her child. Attending a school function. Now taking the kids for ice cream
But what is really sad to me, is that these aren't things she does on her own. She is doing it in attempts to keep her show alive.
As I'm sitting at home, My Daughter (HS Senior) is in Florida with a friend and her parents. I paid for the air, gave her some spending money out of my savings (which isn't much). Sure, I would've loved to see a show, or buy something new BUT just hearing her voice as she excitedly tells me about her day is priceless to me. It's not even sacrifice because she is my child, and I'd give her my life.
Only monsters can look into the eyes of thier children and not feel this kind of love.

This irresponsible moron actually drives with a spelling list taped to her steering wheel "on way 2 bus"? and says it's "normroutine".
And then she brags about it and posts a picture on the Internet? Way to go, Mother of the Year! Jeopardizing your children's safety (not to mention that of everyone else on the road) really doesn't matter at all when there's a spelling grade at risk.
Hasn't she ever heard of driving while distracted? Reckless endangerment? Or is she so busy twittering and allegedly running spelling quizes that she simply doesn't notice that she's driving the car at all?

I am absolutely in no way defending Kate, but she didn't say that she was tweeting while driving, only that she was going over the spelling words. Glancing at a list isn't reckless endangerment. What's the difference between that and looking at directions on a GPS while driving, or looking at the radio to change stations, or going into a purse to get out change for a toll booth?

It says that they were taken last Friday, April 15th. If I recall correctly, it was overcast and quite breezy. But, I'd have to look it up to be sure. Whatever, she still looks ridiculous.
I have a severe phobia about bats. I hate those
nasty creatures. They used to fly around my living room and up and down my staircase. I would become a gibbering mess each and every time. I slept in my car more than once. I finally told the church they had a choice. They could listen to me go into hysterics or they could fix the problem and have a rational
pastor. They fixed the holes where the bats were coming in.
I would not have "conquered" my fear by letting bats fly around my head. I would say I conquered my fear by removing that which caused me to have a panic attack. It makes much more sense that way. Everyone is happier, including the bats.
I do not understand how leaping off a building
is the way to conquer fear of heights. She might have started by climbing a tree. The proof of conquest is whether she will attempt another high rise escapade and do better at it. I think she will remain very afraid. I fear she has proved nothing of value.

It's interesting that on twitter Kate keeps saying how the 'haters' and all the criticism doesn't get to her. It won't change her whether you like her or hate her.
Yet, she listens to her PR team creating this softer, motherly persona to change people's perception of her. Things we complain about here suddenly Kate starts doing. Why?

Huh? The word "accident" is Kate's definition of coincidence.
Chiming in briefly about Kate's spelling list taped to the wheel. I think you can do something like this while being safe, just as you can change the radio or adjust a mirror safely. And it's certainly not the worst thing Kate's ever done. The bigger problem as I see it is that she has "eight little faces" watching her. Children learn far more by watching than what you could ever tell then. What her kids are learning is it's okay to distract yourself while driving, that you can pull it off and be fine. They will be driving in no time. If Mommy looks at a spelling test while driving, why can't I text, or call a friend, or pile a bunch of friends in the car and blast the music? Similarly, if Mommy parks in the fire lane why can't I park there too? Ninety-nine times out of a hundred you may be just fine pushing the limits, but it's that one time that will be all it takes.

Tweet, I said you CAN change the radio safely or adjust a mirror. I.e., you can do so at a stop light, or with your eyes on the road, etc. There are also ways you can do the same thing in an unsafe way.
I've read a lot about how changing the radio can be unsafe and so on. My friend too got in a car accident changing the radio and got sued for a lot of money for being at fault.

Ghost Twats, I don't disagree some celebs hire someone to tweet. But I really strongly feel this is really Kate. The reason is I don't think even a Harvard grad could fake this kind of narcissism, lack of self-awareness, spelling/grammar errors, defensiveness, and faux pas.
Plus, there have been many days that she tweeted every 2 minutes, and used her account as a chat room rather than what most celebs use twitter for. I can't imagine anyone you would hire to do this for you would find it advisable to tweet this often (makes Kate look a little sad, as if this is all she does), or to engage with the fans this much or to reveal to them such personal info about the family.
I just don't find it possible. It's Kate.
By the way, ever since Kate got a twitter account we have not been getting my usual 2-3 sheeple comments a day. Except from that one person who likes to be contrary, and they claim they are NOT a sheeple.

Normally I agree with you, Admin, but not in this case. Nobody should have a flopping piece of paper taped to any steering wheel, and no driver should be focused on a school lesson over the course of a drive that should be completely engaging her attention.
Not to mention that driving with 6 or 8 passengers in a car, even if they are adults, can be highly distracting on its own.
In a cooperative, loving family where the children had been raised to help each other, one child would read the spelling list and check her sibling's spelling. They would switch off, so that the other child (or children) also could practice.
There is no earthly reason why the driver should be involved at all. She's got two tons of iron headed down the road and the responsibility for other lives - the children's and those of others outside the car.
Except that, in this case of course, she couldn't care less.
Admin, I respectfully disagree. Most people cannot multi-focus well even when they think they can. Adjusting a mirror or changing a station is a one-time thing attention-wise. Helping kids study for a test goes beyond glancing at a list at a stop light. Cognitive distractions can cause something called inattention blindness, which is why a driver should focus primarily on driving. Even some commercial pilots failed to see a distraction right in front of them in a flight simulator test (some even landed right on top of it) in one study of inattention blindness.
The bad thing about it, though, is that you aren't aware of it unless someone points it out to you in a research setting or you make a mistake like having an accident. Some people are better at re-directing their focus quickly and efficiently, but many people seriously over-estimate their ability to do it.
It might not seem the worst thing she could do, but ask the family of a cyclist who has been killed by a distracted driver how they feel about it and you might get a different perspective.
All of our talk about the potential dangers of driving while reading a spelling list was addressed by Kate who assured a sheeple there was no danger to worry about. I agree with the above comments about it only taking a second for an accident to happen and that she's demonstrating poor driving habits to her kids by taping the list there especially if it's done regularly. Although I call BS on her explanation and believe she would look at the list whenever she needed to and not just when the car is stopped, she said:

I don't know what that timeline is referencing and I wouldn't be surprised if another trip is planned, but I also think it could be in reference to just about anything. Ashley attends Liberty University and coincidentally their graduation takes place on May 14 @ one month and 6 days from the date of the tweet. IMO, Ashley was talking about the upcoming graduation and not a trip, but we'll have to wait and see.

I'm going from my memory because I cannot sit through videos to back up what I'm remembering. I believe in one of her last interviews when asked about the two home schooled children, Kate replied that they are being transitioned back into school.
It wouldn't surprise me that the children are back in school, but probably not on a full-time status yet.

I remember the same interview, Carol but didn't have the time to go through them either. I interpreted the word "transitioned" to mean they'd return to school gradually. It would make sense that they'd start out by going just a couple days a week at first. I hope that they will be able to return next fall with their siblings and classmates full time.
I was watching Good Morning America this morning and they did a segment on distracted drivers. How people think they can multi-task, but in reality most people can't. Over 5,000 people are killed every year due to distracted drivers.
She may not have actually been handed the pink slip but I do believe it was in the room and Kate got to look at it!
Her latest tweet of "Ugh, Rough day", added to the ones about the upcoming meetings/interviews about the show make me believe ahe may have been asked to give back her Little Miss TLC crown. Don't believe she was quite canned, though, or she wouldn't have bothered updating the twitter feed.
And here she was all prepared with suggestions from her fans of places she could go, each and every one of which was at the very tippy toppest of her bucket list. Guess the tulips will just have to bloom on their own this year, Miss Katie.

LOL.....ANYTHING you pretty much google to buy will show up in Google ads. Somehow Google knows what you've been researching. I was looking for large plastic flower pots yesterday, and the Google ad above is showing me ....large plastic flower pots. The day before that I was looking for hair color online, and whalaa! The Google ads after that were advertising hair color.
I didn't notice the car was in drive! Sheesh! And with eight kids in the car....You guys are convincing me this is more dangerous than I'm giving it credit.
I guess I think it's unreasonable to expect someone to drive like a stiff little soldier staring at the road hands gripping the wheel, dead silence in the car no talking, no radio. There are a certain amount of distractions that come with driving like talking in the car, a radio, etc. You have to be aware of the distractions and appreciate them. But to add to them unnecessarily is silly. I'm sure if she got caught with that taped to the wheel she'd be ticketed.
I still have a bigger problem with what she's teaching the kids about safe driving, no matter how safe SHE thinks she is. Someone should tweet her that.
Would she in all honesty be fine with her child doing the same thing when they learn to drive??
And also? If this were Jon, naturally there would be outrage. He would be an unfit parent and they know it.
I wonder what the nice police officer would say if he pulled Kate over for some minor infraction and saw the vocabulary list taped to the steering wheel.

Whew Admin glad you came to the same conclusion about the word list while driving. It is taped below eye level. It's not the same as a radio where you can feel the buttons or the GPS that is at eye level and you don't have to look down.
She first tweeeted the list worked except for when she had to make turns. After the negative replies she tweeted she only did it while at stop signs or red lights. That does not fit her "turning" comments.

I just find it so interesting, and disgusting, how she changes her words depending on the situation. On one hand, she'll pull her kids from school for weeks at a time to film. Now personally, I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with missing school for a family trip, especially one that provides such wonderful opportunities. But I also don't think that getting A's in 4th grade are really all that important. (And actually, thank goodness that my kids' elementary school doesn't give letter grades and instead provides feedback that is actually useful to parents about their child's development and progress.)
But anyway - Kate will take her kids out of school saying that it doesn't matter, but then she worries about stupid things like getting A's on spelling tests and endangers the lives of her children, others on the road, and herself in the meantime. It just disgusts me when I see parents harp on grades like that's the reason children are in school. The reason they're in school is to learn and grow and explore - not to get straight A's. If the kids managed to memorize those words and get 100% on their test that day, great. But it doesn't really prove anything other than they were drilled on the list.
No A is worth it. Either help the girls study ahead of time - or have the not-a-nanny do it while you're tweeting - or don't worry about it. Or how about this - they could test each other on the insanely-long bus ride to school.

Michelle, this is what astounds me. They think no one has money BUT Kate, no one has a big house/grounds BUT Kate, no one is 'famous' BUT Kate. I tend to think they are the ones who are the 'jellus' ones. Who the heck would want a lonely existence like Kate? Who would want hardly no contact or relationship with family like Kate? No friends, except paid ones? Money isn't everything in this world. Rich but so lonely? Rich but no real friends? WHO would want that? I certainly do not. I am not wealthy, but I surely have no complaints. I am very comfortable. BUT I am wealthy in family, friends and in life in general. I don't have to "reinvent" myself, because of having such a bad reputation and being such a completely an unlikeable person. I ask again, what is there to be 'jellus' of? The 'jellus' issue is their own projection. I wouldn't trade my life for Kate's for anything in this world, including MONEY. One of her fans even tweeted they would "whore" their kids out for 4 million dollars, too. Great people, eh? So I think they are the ones who are truly the 'jellus' ones. They just don't get it. This, of course, does not mean that she was driving while taking a picture. She could have been in a parking space, turned on the car, put it in drive, still have her foot on the brake, and taken a picture. There is no proof that the car was in motion while she was driving. Of course, there is no proof that it wasn't.
When I went out this morning, I checked the position of my car radio. I'm not sure how low it is in a car, but in a large SUV or van it is not at eye level. To be at eye level would mean it would be sitting on the dash! It is lower than the place on the steering wheel where she had the list taped, so yes, for me to change radio stations, look to the right and down, is actually more distracting than a glance at a list on a steering wheel. I find that looking at a GPS is extremely distracting because it requires looking at instructions and a mental computation of facts. If she knew most of the words on that list before they left, it would only require a brief glance to see what word was next.
Should it have been taped to the steering wheel? I wouldn't have done it. My question is...why did she take a photo of this (especially while it was in drive) opening her up once again to criticism? Is she this dumb? Does she text while driving? Nothing would surprise me. Too bad she doesn't live in Harrisburg. She'd be cited for being on the phone while driving, and knowing her fondness for that phone, there is no doubt that she does make phone calls while driving.

I just read this after I posted. What radio has buttons you can feel? Those control knobs went out 20 years ago! You have to LOOK at a radio to see what channel you are on and set it accordingly. You can't just grope around for a button. What about putting in a CD? You can't just feel around for it. What about an ashtray? That's hardly at eye level, and I'm surprised smoking while driving is still allowed. You can't guess where the ashtray is in order to flick the ashes. You have to locate it, look down, and aim just right to get those cigarette ashes in there. I'm not a smoker, but I have watched drivers do this. In fact, I was with someone once who missed the ashtray, and part of the lit cigarette was knocked onto the floor. Dangerous? Absolutely! Not everything in a car is at eye level; turning on the defroster requires a look at the console, and in my SUV requires setting seven controls (it's a complicated car!), and I can't do it just feeling around for the buttons!
I wonder if she still parks in the fire zone!
barbee~Loved your post. I'm afraid of heights and the Statue of Liberty terrified me....and I was only able to go up a few flights before panicking and turning back. I can't even ride a ferris wheel. There is no selectivity involved. I'm afraid of ALL the things that involve high places.

Great point about how of all the celebrities we could possibly be "jellus" of, we focus solely on Kate. If we were jealous of what she is or what she has.....there are a whole lot of celebrities we could have chosen.....many who are bigger celebrities and are much wealthier than she is. Why would we select her out of all of them if it's simply due to jealousy?
I have thought for quite some time that they identify with her and that they can't seem to comprehend why we intentionally would NOT identify with her and would NOT want to be her.
Why else would all of her bad behaviors seem inconsequential to them? And why they make excuses for her. And why they only see good and totally disregard anything bad. It is as if they are defending themselves.

They are behaviors we would not and would never identify with. If you are truly doing your J.O.B. you do not have to constantly "prove" it, by posting pictures of balls you bought them, notes you wrote, or constantly saying over and over "I love em! or him or her". This woman tries way too hard. It becomes so fake after awhile. I always tell my kids I love them, but do I constantly have to tell everyone else? No, because my actions show I do. My opinion is there are buttons on a radio and a quick glance in front of you and off to the side is a lot safer than in front of you and down. Actually my car has the radio controls on the steering wheel so I don't even have to look.
As for the GPS you aren't supposed to "read" it while driving. What's to read? It's a map and has a voice that speaks to you. You aren't supposed to program a GPS while driving.

I agree, and I'll spare you the gruesome stories I've heard about what happened to detracted drivers or the innocents that by rotten luck were in their way.
Anyway, we (hubby, children & myself) take Defensive Driving Courses periodically to lower our insurance, and a section of the course explains how distractions often lead to traffic accidents (some fatal).
BTW, it's true. Last minute "cramming" can be safely done while preparing or eating breakfast. If you don't know the work by the time you get in the car, you're not going to memorize it in the short trip to school.
But, whatever. Maybe after Kate posted that message, she realized her stupidity. Hopefully she will be more careful from now on.
Her tweets make me sick. Like her saying something like, "OMG! I hit way over 8000 (followers, I assume) while I was out! Did anyone notice?" Well, yeah Kate, I noticed that you're a nutcase. The count at that time was 8067, I believe, and I don't consider that "way over" 8000. Then she talks about the "wee bit" of candy she put in the Easter baskets. Who the hell says "wee bit"? I, too, hope she's not texting and driving - being more concerned about tweeting to her fans about what she's doing than staying focused on the road.
Not only is she setting a bad example for her kids but also her teenage fans. Kate needs to get on the Oprah 'No Phone Zone' bandwagon because she's gone nutso with all this twittering.
She's lucky she's not in California where she could get ticketed for using her phone at a stoplight.

Looking closely at the photos of Kate at the Toyota shop, I noticed a Gosselin girl's face (Alexis?) to the right of Kate's head (image #9). Hmmm...I wonder if this photo was taken during school. From INF Daily's post, it seems the Toyota visit, school pick-up and ice cream shots were taken on the same day.

As for the GPS you aren't supposed to "read" it while driving. What's to read? It's a map and has a voice that speaks to you. You aren't supposed to program a GPS while driving.

I guess it depends on what kind of GPS you have! You don't program it while driving. So are you saying that you never look at a GPS while driving? Gosh, I often look at intersections and cross-roads, the route I am taking to make sure I have heard the directions correctly! I want one that I never have to look at! I'd just be happy if I could keep one in the car long enough to use it before it's stolen!
I agree that it was stupid of her to post that picture or even comment about what she did on the way to the bus stop. She just doesn't think. She never did. She always manages to put her foot in her mouth, and one of these days it's going to be permanently embedded there, if it hasn't been already.
These assumptions, though, that she was tweeting this info while driving, are over-kill. There is no proof in that. She said that she wanted to show what she did on the way to the bus stop, not what she was currently doing on the way to the bus stop. She tweeted it in past tense. I seriously doubt that even Kate can multi-task to the point that she can drive, review spelling words, tweet and take a photo at the same time.

I thought she was talking about doing her one-on-one interviews for later episodes. It must be 'rough' work sitting in a chair for hours talking and laughing about yourself.
It does sound like she didn't have quite a good day at work. Whether this was that meeting she was talking about or not, I'm sure the latest ratings slump was brought up as well as the future of the show. I can't imagine the producers not seeing this as a worse case scenario.
I wonder if this season was picked-up for a certain number of episodes and wouldn't be extended unless ratings were good or at least steady. Currently, Wiki only has seven episodes listed with Philly Fun and two TBA episodes left - Food Bank, Kate's birthday, Easter?
I don't see TLC greenlighting a final season if all Kate wants to do is more trips. Possibly one last special since the Gosselins were a flagship family for TLC. Kindergarten Graduation Celebration (if school does that)? Sextuplets' 7th birthday? It would be hard to top the last birthday though.
Or, TLC can just decide to cut their losses and not give the Gosselins a proper send-off. Just use what they have already and call it a day.

Does anyone ever look at their speedometer, oil gauge or tach while driving? How about the climate control? Does anyone look at the mileage on the car while they are driving? Seems to me that there are many distractions for the driver. I really don't see how looking at spelling words is any different from looking down at a speedometer. She's not zooming down an interstate at 70 miles an hour, reading while driving. She's driving rural roads with stop signs, red lights which would give her several chances to look at the list.
Taping it to the steering wheel, though, is a different story. I'm not sure how an officer would feel about that if she got stopped for any kind of traffic offense and he saw something taped to the steering wheel!
I just want you to know - how horrific it is about the discussions on other blogs - calling out the "haters" as it were. Well, you know what sheeple - too bad. How can any mother in this world support Kate and Jon Gosselin and what they have done to their children to grift the almighty dollar? Yes, IMO both Jon and Kate made this decision together before their divorce. Kudos to Jon for deciding that filming for his children is detrimental. I am holding out hope that with the low ratings that Kate will be told Bye Bye by TLC.

I decided to install a dvd player in the front seat so I can glance at my shows while driving down rural roads.
I also put on makeup, text and study for finals while driving. I've only been in 14 accidents and only 1 person was hurt sevarely. What's the big deal? EVERYBODY DOES IT so it's just FINE!

Can you believe Kate? OK, yeah, I can. She has pulled some serious BS, the desperate meter is at an all time high. When was the last time anyone has heard from Jon? Hmmm...this must be driving her insane. Jon is the good guy. He is doing right by his kids, he stepped up (well, he always (sometimes) did ), he has a decent job out of the spotlight, he is not exploiting his kids, & he is in a great relationship with someone who loves him for who he is, along with his kids.
Let's see, Kate: NOT doing right by her kids at all, desperate to be in the spotlight, her "job" is about exploiting her kids & she does it happily, without a care in the world about who it affects & she is not in a relationship, constantly balking at the idea, saying a man would only get in the way & it would be like having a 9th child. Oh yeah guys! Knock that door down!
Kate is extremely jealous of Jon. I'm betting Jon has a better relationship with the kids, provides for them with love & affection & respect, spends time with them (when allowed) & treats them as individuals. We all know how Kate treats them. And not only that, but we have seen Kate try to destroy Jon over & over again on national TV, all out of bitter jealousy & rage. That is so telling of the future relationship she will have with her children & ANY woman Jon decided to marry. Kate will always make his life a living hell, because Jon grew up, wanted the best for his kids & Kate wanted the fame & fortune. What a selfish bitch.
It blows my mind how unbelievably ruthless people can be when money is involved. No thought as to whom it may be hurting or futures may be ruined. Kate was never meant to be around forever, we all knew that. Rural roads are not safer because they are rural! People speed down long stretches, they dont see a stop sign after a long stretch, animals, bicycles, etc The three friends of mine who have been in a serious accident--all three on a rural road, two within a few hundred yards of each other.

Yes, I glance at my GPS. But it's eye level on my dashboard and I can still see where I'm going ahead of me. Big difference from looking down.
As for my radio "buttons" I was referring to the pre-set radio buttons. I really don't fiddle with my radio stations when I'm driving. And as I said mine is on the steering wheel. No need to look anyway... I also don't change CD's while driving. My kids know that whatever CD is in the car when I start it is what we will be listening to until we are stopped, parked etc.
As for smoking.... LOL. Don't even get me started on that.
Reading a list, book, cell phone, ipad, blackberry, etc in my opinion while driving is a lot different than glancing at your GPS.

I don't and haven't watched this trash in forever because I never found it of any interest as I don't have kidlets and her killjoy behavior was evident on the first glimpse. Last week, fairly early in the morning, I was on my way to the bank in my BRAND NEW 2011 NISSAN ROGUE...well, it's now 5 months old...only 2,000 miles, when this woman using her cell phone in the lane to my left crossed straight into my lane as though I were invisible. This was with NO TRAFFIC. I had to jump the curb going 40 mph and blare my horn at her to avoid a collision. I was livid and immediately pulled into a parking lot to try to visually determine if there was any damage. Of course, she took off, and I went to the dealership to have the car looked over to see if the front driver's side tire (majorly scruffed up--pisses me off royally) had been damaged or if the alignment had been affected or if there was any underneath damage, and I HAD TO PAY! The good news is that everything turned out okay; the bad news is that people like me are sitting ducks for people like her!!! She was either texting or twittering or talking, all of which needs to be OUTLAWED while driving. Oprah Winfrey has this one right.

Judy -- I totally agree with you. People who yak away on their cellphones while they're driving are as dangerous as driving under the influence IMO. And speeding is running a close second to that too. There's a reason they post those speed limits.
Where I live you can get a $2000 fine for talking/texting while driving. It pisses me off because some people can afford to pay those fines/ increased insurance rates and they'll just keep doing it. The courts need to come down hard on people who break traffic laws. It's a two-ton weapon for crying out loud. They need to put them through the same programs that they do for drunk drivers and Kate Gosselin is one of them. She gets cited for speeding and there's the photographic proof that she parks in emergency lanes. I realize that she THINKS she's above the law, but now she stupidly tweets that she READS a vocabulary list while driving her kids to school. Gee what's next is she going to say she has a loaded gun in the glove box just in case a pap tries to snap her pic three miles away? She's nuts. Get her off the road before she kills somebody.

You know I suspect a lot of us here, certainly myself, don't really have jealous personalities. Some people don't. Some people do and that doesn't make you a bad person. But some people just don't really GET jealous all that often.
Hubby/boyfriend/whatever is talking to a pretty woman, we're not one to flip a gasket. Co-worker gets a big promotion, happy for them and help throw a party, we don't sulk and wish it were us.
What's funny is for people who always claim we need to put ourselves in Kate's shoes, I think the reality is they cannot put themselves in OTHER'S shoes, they cannot look at the world from another viewpoint and understand how someone wouldn't be jealous of Kate. Since THEY are jealous, we MUST be. When really, if we were going to be jealous in the first place, it certainly wouldn't be of Kate.
And yes, it sure makes a heck of a lot more sense to be jealous of Angelina as oppossed to Kate. Kate is NOT that special!

Tiny story about what happened to my son & I just yesterday when a woman on her damn cell phone wasn't paying attention & nearly hit us. We live across the street from a church. I drove out of my driveway, was going straight & the lady leaving the church parking lot was going left, I was coming from the right. Cell phone lady didn't bother to look to the right, & just kept going, I laid on the horn, had to swerve in in my neighbors yard (4 houses down) & cell phone lady stopped dead. I stopped too & she was about 2 feet away from my door. If she had kept going, she would have nailed my car (on my side thank God, not my sons). She was moving at a good speed.
I got out after asking my son if he was OK, (in my pj's), she got out, STILL ON HER PHONE, said hang on to whoever she was chatting with, & I laid into her like there was no tomorrow. (I know, not very Hippie Chick of me) I told cell phone lady that MY SON is in the car, & if he wasn't, I would be saying things only God hears me think & don't you have kids? Do you talk on the phone w/ kids in your car? Say sorry to my son...And on & on...she apologized but still.
Distraction while driving is so easy. Admin, I had a friend in HS who also got in an accident while flipping radio stations in his truck. He was OK, but it happens! This chick yesterday didn't even LOOK where she was going, she was too busy yapping. My celly stays in my bag while I drive & I'm lucky cause my car has all my radio buttons on the steering wheel. Kate it seems is just not thinking about anyone, her kids, others on the road, if she is doing this spelling word list. Like someone suggested, have the kids quiz each other. She may think she is saving time or whatever, but she is asking for trouble & AGAIN, as usual, not using her brain.

I've had my share of experiences with cell phone users, too. It's usually the teenagers, but last week it was a middle-aged man. I was stopped behind him at a red light. Light turned green and he proceeded to keep talking and talking, totally unaware of his surroundings. The guy in back of me laid on his horn. Nothing. We had to sit through another light change. When the light turned green, this idiot still sat there. The guy in back of me got out and walked up to the car. This jerk was talking and taking notes like he was in an office. He pulled up his car a little when he saw the other guy coming toward him. But he wouldn't pull away.
I was afraid of being in a situation of road rage, and I was able to back up and pull out around the two guys who were just about to come to blows!
Just for the fun of it, this afternoon I scribbled some words and taped them to my steering wheel. I wanted to see if I could glance at the list without putting myself or others in a dangerous situation. I could...it really doesn't compromise your driving skills at all. However, I wouldn't recommend it as a way of life.
That said, Kate's major mistake was taking a photo of it and putting it on the internet. For the life of me, I can't understand why she would do this. To show that she's a good mom who is actively involved with the kids and their education? That's the only reason I can think of. I remember Kate tweeting something about hoping that her kids make good choices in life. This was one very bad choice that SHE made -- taking a picture of a list on a steering wheel and then posting it! How incredibly stupid is that? Why does she feel the need to make public these aspects of what should be kept private? I just don't understand her reasoning, or lack of it. I knew that she didn't have much upstairs, but now she has really shown the cyber community just how much she's lacking in the smarts department.
Kate has kids..constantly tweeting...Kate doesn't have kids... hardly tweets....hmmm....she must be hanging out with Steve....

Hi Red Sky. It concerns me that you don't see that the risk of causing or being in an accident is greatly increased when a driver takes their eyes off the road to READ text. Studies have shown that between 25 to 50% of accidents are due to distracted drivers. (This is followed by driver fatigue, drunk driving, speeding, aggressive driving, and weather.)
While I agree that there are many things that can distract a driver, the act of trying to read and process the meaning of words is infinitely more dangerous than glancing at a speedometer. Reading requires more time and extended cognitive processing than does an instantaneous glance in a rear-view mirror or at a gauge. And her tweets clearly indicated that she was not just reading while she was stopped (which would still be dangerous considering that she would be too distracted to avoid someone crashing into her).
I would think Kate's fans would be very concerned about this behavior because she is not only putting her children and others at risk, but she is putting herself at risk. And she is setting a terrible example for her children. Why would even her most ardent supporters condone this? Her fervent followers believe she can do no wrong, even when she is endangering herself and those precious children they say they love.
Her fans are so blindly devoted to her, I swear, if Kate said, "Oooooh, I feel like playing Russian Roulette today," they would excitedly tell her it was a wonderful idea. It is truly inexplicable.

I think that most commentators here would agree, the poor G8 kids have a God-given right to have a private life/childhood and not be responsible for supporting a lavish life-style for their Momster.
The G8, six and ten year olds have – for most of their lives – worked. Kreider supporters can deny this all they want but those kids have WORK PERMITS for a reason. They have provided a McMansion and pay for all the associated expenses, they buy their own food, pay the tuition for their schooling and medical insurance. She wasn't reading a book and she wasn't tweeting and she wasn't scanning a map. She wasn't trying to process the meaning of words, for heaven's sakes. There was no cognitive processing involved. She was looking at WORDS that she probably had looked at many times and quite possibly could recognize them at a quick glance! Tell you what. The next time you are driving, just glance down at the center of your steering wheel for a quick second and see how much of a danger you are to yourself and other cars on the road. You will see that you can look at a word without being a menace on the highway.
Tweeting, being on the phone, trying to text while driving are all incredibly dangerous, and do require processing of facts and information. Do you ever read billboards while driving? I guess not, since that requires reading and processing of information and taking your eyes off the road.

No, they don't. Show me one tweet where she specifically says that she was tweeting while driving. The car was not traveling when she took the photo, which can be seen on the speedometer. She tweeted in the PAST TENSE. Check out the tweet that she sent. She said something to the effect that this is what she did (reviewed vocabulary) on the way to the bus stop, not what she was doing at the time she was tweeting. Again, PAST TENSE.
She tweeted once that she was out driving on a Sunday, but there is no indication that she was doing the actual driving, or if she was tweeting while they had stopped somewhere.
If she's tweeting, texting, reading a newspaper or whatever while she is driving, she should be stopped and fined for it. Better yet, her license should be taken away. However, she gets away with everything, including parking in a fire lane. Why in the world would she even post a picture of the kids' vocabulary words? Nothing is private with her...absolutely nothing. I'm not sure why she feels the need to reveal everything about her personal life with her little tweetie friends, as she calls them. Is she reverting to her teen years -- you know, the ones in which she was the forgotten child?
I hope this circus ends, and the sooner the better. The ringmaster needs to put away his whip, the clowns need to take off their greasepaint, the sawdust needs to be shoveled away, and the trained circus animals need to be set free...before it's too late.
If there is not enough in the bank now to last her for 30 years then she needs a new accountant.

She needs at least $300,000 a year to cover her expenses. I once sat down and figured it out. If she has four million in the bank, not enough interest can be generated to support her lifestyle, and certainly not for the next 30 years.
If she sells the house, downsizes, dismisses the hired help, and says adios to the lifestyle of the rich and famous, then yes, she could manage.
What I don't understand about the vocabulary list on Kate's steering wheel is why the definitons are included. Why not just the words? They are simple words, and Kate should be able to tell if the kids are spelling and defining them properly. Most begin with Pre- or Post-. They might be working on prefixes.
If she was planning to go over words in the van, it seems the simpler the review sheet is the better. This one is crammed with so many words that would require too much focusing on the paper to be "just a glance".
After submitting my last post, I remembered something that happened to me on a recent road trip to an unfamiliar location. Upon exiting, there were so many direction signs, such as "to get to x, turn right and then left; for x, left at exit ramp, turn right to highway x, then right. There is no re-entrance to highway x," and so forth. In order to figure out where I was going, I had to slow down. I guess I should have pulled over and stopped and risked being rear-ended by drivers who knew exactly which route to take. I looked at my GPS, which was taking me in another direction. What to do? This involved processing information while I was driving.
Kate is a bad example for her kids in many things that she does. I'm concerned that these children are growing up without any respect for adults, and that they are learning that they are entitled to whatever they want, even if it means being rude in the process. They see their mother's behavior and figure if she does it, then it's acceptable. I'm not sure that courtesy and good manners are being taught. How many episodes have we seen where these kids (and Kate) have not said "please" and "thank you?" They are not learning basic socialization skills. What is going to happen when TLC pulls the plug and they can't get whatever they want whenever they want it because they are no longer celebrity kids?
Of course, many of us have known that all along but now you can't hide under the fake child advocate bullshit.

I don't hate Kate. There are times when I feel sorry for her, for her stupidity, for her lack of social skills, for her horrible butchering of the English language. I do hate what she is doing to those children. She has eight lives in her hands - eight children who are working to support her thirst for fame and fortune and living high on the hog. She should release those kids, eek out a living on her own, exploit herself (and make a fool out of herself in whatever way she chooses) on television. Just let the kids out of it, and let them live peacefully and happily with their father.
Question, anonymous...why do you read here, and why do you post here? Who has given you this assignment, and do you feel that your mission is accomplished now that you THINK that you have exposed this bullcrap? Hi Red Sky. I don't want to hijack this thread with a debate, but I must respectfully disagree. Glancing down at the center of a steering wheel for a quick second does not equate to the time it takes to read even just one word. It takes more than a quick second to read a word AND a definition (which was also written on her paper) and, yes, there is more cognitive processing involved in recognizing letters than when just glancing at an object.
20/20 had an interesting piece this evening on distracted driving. It focused on people using cell phones/blackberries for conversations or texting, but much of what they found could be applied to drivers being distracted by behaviors that are not necessary to driving (e.g., glancing in rear-view mirror is necessary; eating/reading/applying makeup/using phone is not). A correspondent rode along with a police officer, and he spoke to some people who had been stopped and ticketed. He found (and other studies showed) that most people firmly believe and insist that their cell phone use is not a distraction and that they are such good drivers that there is no added risk.
Some of those folks were asked and agreed to volunteer to participate in some testing of driver distraction in Virginia. One participant was a young man who was so adamant that texting wasn't a distraction that he set up a Facebook site bragging about and promoting texting and driving. To make a long story short, he and other participants in the testing were shocked when they ran red lights and crashed into barriers that simulated real road conditions and hazards.
People delude themselves into believing that they have the driving skills necessary to allow them to engage in distracting behaviors, but the statistics prove otherwise. It's like someone insisting that they drive better when they are drunk. It was stated that ANYTHING that distracts a driver for more than 2 seconds raises the dangers dramatically.
As far as Kate reading while she was driving, I believe she tweeted something about it (reading) only being a problem when turning, which would be evidence that she was reading as she was driving. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

They are match the word with the definition, not just spelling words, but vocab words. Column A is a word; Column B is a definition. Match the correct definition with the word.
Are these definitions the ones the twins were given by a teacher to memorize? Or did the twins combine their homework and decide on a definition for each word? Or did Kate write the meanings of the words, essentially doing part of their homework for them?
Oh, so many questions, too little interest! I am just gobsmacked that Kate thinks the driver's seat of a car is a good place for this.

Steering wheels are put in vehicles for steering. I'm not familiar with any manufacturer offering an optional or custom wheel that is designed for taping paper or post it notes so drivers can read and drive at the same time. Kart should have her auto insurance raised for such a dangerous stunt.
NZ episode provided a great moment re: the kids. The visit to the crater showed them running, playing and enjoying themselves. Kate making jelly sandwiches made me want to rush out and buy her cookbook. NOT. It did illustrate her disdain for family things. Ugh, double ugh.

To me, the whole point about that stupid little list taped to the steering wheel which may have/could have been a point of distraction was NOT NECESSARY. Quit twittering, you TWAT, and spend that early-morning time or the night before going over the words and definitions with your kids--that is what real parents do. Kate posted that pic to make her look like an involved mother, but an involved mother would have done that AT HOME--NOT while driving in the car. Once again, she is beyond transparent.
I agree with Red Sky's posts about driving. I mean really, are you all going to say you NEVER have had a distraction? Or that you all drive paying 100% attention to the road? Never read a road sign? A billboard? Or how about looking for an address? None of you have done ANY of these? I highly doubt it. What about the days before Tom Tom and Garmin when we had to print out driving directions from Mapquest? You have to read those as you drive (and please dont even try to say you memorized the directions)- and one of my biggest pet peeves- what about all the mothers who tend to their rear-facing infant in the backseat? DISTRACTED!!! So, yes, I know distracted driving is dangerous- I was in a very serious roll-over because I was distracted according to the police- I was looking in my mirrors- even that is a distraction. So please ladies, yes, I think Kate shouldn't have taped the spelling words to her steering wheel, but to act if none of you have ever been distracted while driving (like I mentioned, the police will say a mirror check was a distraction if you are in a accident)need to take a look at yourselves honestly. It doesn't make Kate's behavior excusable, but let's not be so quick to throw stones. And no, I am not a sheeple, I am just honest with myself and I try not to vilify others when I am guilty of similar acts.
