'I've never had a job in my life that I was better than. I was always just lucky to have a job. And every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job, and I never quit my job until I had my next job. And so opportunities look a lot like work.'

Ashton Kutcher's profoundly honest, tough-love speech in an unlikely venue was something every helicoptered kid needed to hear. And maybe some adults, too.

Don't waste your money on Jobs, but listen to this speech.

"I believe that opportunity looks a lot like hard work. When I was thirteen I had my first job with my dad carrying shingles up to the roof. And then I got a job washing dishes at a restaurant. And then I got a job in a grocery store deli. And then I got a job at a factory sweeping Cherrio dust off the ground. And I've never had a job in my life that I was better than.  I was always just lucky to have a job.  And every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job, and I never quit my job until I had my next job.  And so opportunities look a lot like work."

I think it's hard to say whether the kids actually wanted their photo taken, but they're so obviously posed.
It reminded me how I would pose my little dog! Oh, that's so cute! Put his stuffed toy by him and get him to look at the camera.
Kids, not so much.
At least they didn't have to sit on the floor on the tape line.

Some of you called bullshit on this, but I believe that the kids actually do ask her to take their pictures, etc., just to get her attention. I believe they do whatever makes her happy and remember, they have grown up in the spotlight and I'm sure some of them love the attention just as much as TFW.

Just my observation and opinion, but it seems that the little girls smile seem more genuine compare when the boys smile. I noticed that on the show and I notice it more now that the show is no longer on air. When the boys "smile", I see the pain in their eyes.

With regard to the picture of one of the tup girls heaping praise on TFW's 4 books: The psychological term for what this sicko,TFW, is doing to her children is called PARENTIFICATION -- when the child has to take care of the needs of the parent instead of the other way around. TFMJG should be heaping praise on the kids and not the kids heaping praise on her. This abnormal pattern is so consistent and unrelenting in that household, the kids' brains are NOT going to recover. TFW is making emotional vegetables out of them.

I agree the boys' smiles don't look genuine.
Either they're just so trained to do photos and photo shoots, or the consequences if they don't cooperate must be pretty steep.
I just don't see getting them to performed like trained seals for much longer.
I find it bizarre that all the pics of them that I can recall are for promoting one thing or the other, not having anything to do with them and their interests.
Come on, not ONE team, sport or Boy Scout photo? Ever?
How can any fan who is a parent not pick up on this?

Totally agree. When the boys are posed it looks painful, especially one of them. I think the girls are happy to do Mommy's bidding for their own sake-no reprimands (or worse) as well as parentification motives. I remember she had posed two of the girls 'reading' IJWYTK I think- and they had the book open only at the cover page.

Where's Virginia Pen? She could explain why a book goes back to print.
September 16, 2013 at 2:20 PM

==========

Real life deadlines for me--and now all the good stuff is happening with Kate's book!

"Back to print" is not a term I've heard often because a well-planned book release wouldn't NEED to go back to print immediately.

Kate thinks she's making her book look like such a runaway bestseller that HCI had no inkling of the vast demand for it--so they printed too few copies. (Who believes that? Anyone? Raise your hand!)

I think Kate is lying--she's trying to do damage control on the Radar story which said the book is tanking. She's trying desperately to convince the world otherwise.

First, HCI had the unheard-of length of more than half a year to pre-sell the book. If they couldn't get a good idea of numbers needed upon release, then they're not very good at what they do. Rinky dink, unprofessional.

Second, since the cost per book drops with larger print runs, printing a run that's too small would be a very stupid and costly financial error.

Third, we can all see that the sales numbers are NOT skyrocketing as Kate would have us believe.

On the other hand, if HCI really IS printing these books as they are sold, that's called Print on Demand (POD) and it is MOST DEFINITELY a type of self-publishing.

Print on demand uses computer technology to print books as they sell ("on demand") to minimize risk as compared to offset printing which uses large runs to achieve the best costs.

The idea with print on demand is that you only print what you have ALREADY sold or can reasonably expect to sell in a short time to minimize risk.

The typical print on demand run is 1 to 500 copies. No more than 500. Otherwise, you go to offset for larger runs--completely different technology and much better cost per book.

I can't imagine this book is anything but a loss for all involved. Kate's just trying to save face.

I feel for the boys the most and if they continue living with TFW as the primary parent for several more years, I fear they will lose more and more of themselves. She obviously favors her girls because they adapt more to her needs. I hope Jon can get custody of his sons before they are 18. By that time, the real emotional damage will be done. The boys always look detached or disconnected with whatever TFW has them doing.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Thank you Virginia Pen mom! Makes perfect sense.

You seem to be saying either HCI miscalculated or it was a print on demand situation. Either way it's pretty sad to try to claim going back to print is some kind of victory when you just screwed up projections or are simply printing as the orders come in. If I remember Createspace, they print on an AS NEEDED basis so you could be tweeting "back to print!" all the live long day and it wouldn't be a lie since every order must go back to print.

I have thought all along this is just a glorified self-publishing venture disguised as a real publisher and that the out of pocket costs and risk fall to TFW and TFW alone. Whenever HCI is asked directly if they are Kate's publisher, their answers are vague and word plays. If I recall once when asked, they said yes we are "publishing" Kate's book, instead of just saying we are her publisher of record. Well, create space "publishes" books too. It's doesn't mean they're not a self-publishing company.

That said, there's nothing wrong with self-pubilshing a book (well, unless your children's bank account bears the costs), but why not just own it? A lot of major authors these days are actually self-pulishing. It can actually turn out to be more lucrative sometimes, and you keep control.

In her 'back to print' tweet she actually asks the question, "DID my publisher really just call and tell me my cookbook has already gone back to print?".

My best guess - No, you were dreaming.

===============

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying. Kate, in her usual quest to glorify herself, has made either HCI look bad (poor calculations) or has just admitted she's printing on demand.

Technically, with print on demand, you COULD claim, as Admin said, that your book was "back to print" every day or two if they're selling!

If Kate has no agent (and it appears she doesn't) it would be exceedingly hard or impossible for her to get in with a traditional publisher. If you want to know what kind of publisher a company is, ask if writers can submit their own works.

Writers are often misled when they hear a company is "calling" for authors. That just means they're looking for authors to pay to print their own books! The writers say, "Oh, I have a contract!" Yup, you sure do. Pay up.

These companies do call themselves publishers in the sense that they put the book into print--the definition of "publishing"--but they are not traditional publishers. It's a word game.

If Kate is bearing the risk, as she well may be, she'll dip into the kids' bank accounts no matter what--she'll take whatever loss is necessary--to save that plastic face of hers.

I'm a self-published author who's "in the zone"--between 10,000 and 20,000 copies sold. When a self-published author sells in that range, agents and publishers generally perk up when approached. But right now, I still own my rights and my kids can keep my book in print well after I'm gone.

I haven't made a decision, but I'm thinking to stick with it as it is. Remember in "Baby Boom" when Diane Keaton says, "I'm doing pretty good on my own! And if your company can put my product on every shelf in America, then so can I!" That's kind of how I feel at the moment.

I used to work for a small publishing company. Even when we had pre-sales, we did not print huge numbers of titles due to limited cash flow. Book sellers are very slow payers, so this limited our numbers when publishing. We had great terms with our printing house, but we also wanted to limit our exposure. There are many booksellers who will order 'x' number of books and if they don't sell or they've been opened/viewed so much that they look used, then they are sent back. The publisher must then give them full credit for those returns.

I took a look at HCI's website and noticed that most of their books were paperback. As we all know, paperbacks are cheaper to publish/purchase. I wonder why TFW's book is hard cover? Was this at her insistence? I also read the blurb that was written about her book: "As far back as I can remember, my grandma would invite me and my sisters to bake in her kitchen, allowing each of us to choose our cookie project. She would set us up at our own stations throughout the kitchen and invite the chaos to begin. In this book, I impart to you all that I have learned, invented, and stumbled upon. My hope is that my children learn from me the joy and satisfaction that creating in the kitchen brings. No matter the outcome, I have learned from Grandma that nothing that comes from the kitchen is a mistake when you add love to the mix!"
This publishing house must not have an editor(s)-- my grammar isn't the best, but I do recognize something that's poorly written. To me, this reflects poorly on HCI...

I read the BN book reviews. What makes me laugh is the the 5* reviews are clearly written by sheeple in response to the negative reviews, and are really about Kate, not the book. Clearly the 1* reviews are not fans, but most actually point to actual flaws in the book and the recipes, and yes, I do recognize some from our conversations here. But the 5* are worthless, they have nothing specific to say. Favorite is the one saying we see a calmer Kate. WTF - this is supposed to be a cookbook right? Silly sheeple.

Insert Creative Username Here said...

From what I've seen, Kate doesn't outright lie. She stretches the truth or she doesn't say anything at all. So I'm thinking this is definitely print-on-demand, and that this is at least quasi-self-published.

Tucker's Mom said...

I really do love that 5* review-
"... With pictures and some antidotes we see a much calmer and happier Kate..."
So, basically, Kate doesn't have BFR, or Bitchy Resting Face, so buy her book!

I knew from the start that the vast majority of reviews on Kate's book would be fans vs. haters, with both just wasting bytes and people's time. It's absolutely useless and I think B+N and Amazon are going to be stymied by the war that's just beginning to break out. Probably unprecedented in its vitriol.
I think Kate's recipes are basic, but often times confusing and seemingly untested and frankly unedited by anyone who knows how to cook. The book is horrible on technique and uses shortcuts that are bad for your health, like way too many ingredients that come from a can.
Kate has blathered on about organic cooking for years now, but from what I've seen, over a dozen recipes, this book reads like dorm room cooking.
Perhaps other recipes will use unprocessed ingredients, which is what I'd hope from the brand that Kate's been trying to sell. But, I believe that with the rest of Kate's branding, it's a bunch of smoke and mirrors.
Moreover, it's simply insulting to take someone's hard earned money and pocket it when you put forth dreck like boxed macaroni and cheese and cans of tuna.
Takes a lot of nerve. I'd never be able to do that to fans.

Tucker's Mom said...

Her book is not listed as print-on demand through distributors. There are still copies available to order. What might appear to be "big" sales can be the chunks of books that distributors and other groups order as a whole, not individual sales. I think that HCI simply ran press for preorders and is now printing for non-preorders.

"Back to print" doesn't at all mean that a book is flying off the shelves (although it would for some authors). I'll be curious to see where the book falls after a few weeks.

I am a long time reader, but I have never posted until now for 2 reasons: 1. My iPad would not let me choose a name and I didn't want to post as Anonymous, and 2. by the time a crafted a well thought-out response, another regular had posted exactly what I was trying to say in a a better way!

So here goes.......

I worked at Barnes&Noble for more than 3 years, during which time I worked in several departments including music/DVD, magazines, receiving, bargain books, kids, shelving, and as a regular clerk on the book floor.

When a new book was released, it is shelved in several places based on many factors, but most importantly according to company policy regarding merchandizing and deals we had with various publishers to promote specific works. Very little display space was discretionary, and usually limited to the employee recommendation section and extra end caps/tables for items with high local popularity and sales volume.

The first place 5-10 copies of a new book is displayed is where it would normally be shelved in the category by author's last name. So TFW's would be in cookbooks (probably general cooking because it sure isn't organic!) in the Gs. Next, another 5-10 copies may be included in a shelf, end cap, or table that is labeled "New in Cooking" or possibly (gag) "Celebrity Chefs." Again, this is according to the merchandising plan sent electronically to each store based on size, configuration, and popularity. If the book is extremely popular, or expected to fly off the shelves, it may be featured on the New Releases octagon at he front center of the store, stacked in the window or behind the registers, or may even have its own small table or end cap to display numerous copies. If we have a deal with the publisher in place for the specific work, it might get it's very own custom signage as well.

If the stores only received 5-10 copies, it probably would not have been merchandised anywhere except the regular shelf as there just wouldn't be enough copies to display in all the usual new release areas. Also, if the publisher didn't negotiate (read: pay or give huge discount) for special placement and/or signage, it wouldn't get displayed anywhere else anyway, unless of course an employee "recommended" the book and placed it with a review on the recommendations shelf. Such recommendations also include the employee's name, and I would hate to be associated with rave reviews of TFW's book, because customers do come up and ask about the recommended titles!

I choose the name Turtle Logic

P.S. Carried over from the People magazine cover thread: As I was the newsstand manager for my final year at B&N, please please please don't turn around magazines or move them to different tiers or shelves! These are placed according to charts from corporate, we have no choice where they go and "undoing" the work irritated customers takes a lot of time, even if I totally agree with the change . Trust me, I don't like TFW or other icky 'celebs' either, but if that magazine is charted to go on the bottom tier of the top shelf front and center, that's where it has to go.

Millicent said...

Moreover, it's simply insulting to take someone's hard earned money and pocket it when you put forth dreck like boxed macaroni and cheese and cans of tuna.

Couldn't agree more. I posted some time ago about a recipe blog I like. I get a weekly e-mail with various recipes and meal ideas. One of them was a homemade mac n cheese with tuna. Nothing fancy, but it was genuinely homemade and probably took the same amount of time as would cooking up the boxed mac n cheese. It included mixing in frozen veggies (I use the carrot, corn, green bean mix), so it could even be a one-dish meal if you wanted. And it was inexpensive too.

Now that's the kind of recipe she should have included, and she could have told people that they could substitute gluten free noodles, fresh organic vegetables, fresh tuna vs. canned, etc.

I agree that this is a vanity book, and is really more photo album than cookbook. I predict sales will continue to be dismal.

I can't think of anyone else who fits the bill other than Jon and Kate. But, if there's a lick of truth behind this, how can Kate sue Jon for anything related to her not being able to get work when this sabotage is strongly hinting directly to her?
I really wish Jon could comment on whether he was *this* close to getting a spot on DWTS this season.
If true, I'm at a loss for words.

Kate has been boasting for years about organic food. Why isn't her cookbook targeted towards organic foods in the receipes. Instead it appears to be food from cans. Huh?
===========

There is a section in the book called "How to Begin to Eat Organically"(Page 268), in which she gives tips on how to shop for organic foods. She also gives this big tip:

"Cook organic recipes. Substitute your regular recipes, but use organic ingredients....you can make any recipe into an organic recipe just by using organic ingredients"

Yes, she states exactly what many have said here-just use organic ingredients. But with her pushing her persona as an "organic cook", you would think this bit of advice would serve the readers better by being put as an introduction to the book, not at almost the end on page 268.

In fact, I think all her tips about cooking, storage, etc, should have been put at the front of the book, as an introduction to cooking, but she just jumps right in with the recipes.

Isn't that kind of backward for a cookbook?

Formerly Duped said...

If TFW wants to sell the book based partly on luring fans with the pics of the kids and her bikini shot, does she not know many are in the Amazon preview, and also she has tweeted a number of new ones, so no one owuld need to buy the book for that. Plus twitter reveals her 'typical traditions' and '10/10 scale' rated meals all the time .Other than that, why would fans buy it- for the recipes? Nah...

I think Kate's name recognition, remaining media connections and money are going to sell some books.
Somehow, it just wouldn't surprise me if this book became a "best seller" with all the ways that can be manipulated to come about.
This could make her cookbook a "success", as her culinary accumen certainly won't!

Thanks to Honkytonk (#44) for the Blind Gossip link.

The description fits TFW to a "T" and paints her as the spiteful "B" she is.

Let's hope they run that item by her when she is on the Today show; at least give her the chance to deny, much as a I hope she doesn't use the opportunity to try to denigrate the father of her eight little moneymakers.

Most people that buy cookbooks are people that like to cook and want access to different types of recipes. I will use my mother as an example, the woman actually collects cookbooks. She will go to B&N or Sam’s Club and spend an hour or more perusing the cookbooks, making sure the recipes are sound, etc., She would never buy a cookbook with the slop Kate is trying to peddle, she just wouldn’t. Kate’s audience are the sheeple and curiosity seekers – none of which are likely to make a cookbook successful. It would not surprise to hear that people bought the book and returned it. Her recipes are just not that special.

Re: Blind Gossip. Kate is spiteful and vindictive. Jon cannot get a break. I suspect the DWTS producers didn't hire Jon because they didn't want to deal with Kate. There probably wasn't a deal worked out with DWTS and Kate, they just wanted to wash their hands of Kate.

If the Blind Gossip link is accurate, I have some thoughts.

She is suing Jon because he caused her to lose employment opportunities. Meanwhile she orchestrates a campaign to keep him from getting a DWST stint.

She complains that she is the sole support of 8 children, but would prevent Jon from a lucrative gig.

She fails to understand (or doesn't care) that if Jon is doing well the children will benefit in many ways.

What is the scent of hate? That must be how she smells.

I don't know if I buy the blind gossip story.

Seems to me these "reports" often come from internet rumours and don't require any sort of authentication to be published. I take with a pound of salt.

I did check out PW's site though and indeed, wow, gorgeous pics and full details of her tour.

Like many of you, I'm dumbfounded that Kate doesn't seem to have the first clue how to market her own brand.

Is it lack of knowledge or sheer laziness?

One would think that if this is all she's got going on she would invest some of the time she has, not doing a 9-5, to educate herself on the matter.

How hard is it to log into your website and update the News and Events page?

Didn't she direct her tweeties to HCI's site to get the tour info? Really Kate? That's how you market yourself. Make everyone else do all the work?

How's this, call up Kimmie and get her to e-mail you the info, copy and paste into your dashboard and hit publish. Easy peasy.

She really does love to play the poor put upon, have 8 kids, I'm a "single" mom with no help (bullshit), woe is me victim doesn't she?

Well, in a couple of weeks when all of this is but a manic memory I'm sure we'll be back to the tweets about the 1,000 cookies baking-a-thons, the broken appliances and the fallen trees all over the driveway.

How would she do that? If this is indeed about Kate and Jon, what could she say/do to stop him from going on DWTS? Does she have that much power, legal or otherwise, over his activities after all this time has passed? And wouldn't DWTS jump at the opportunity to have the ex-spouse of one, if not thee WORST dance contestants on their show? It would be a ratings grab.

My first thought was the same actually AA, that ABC wouldn't care about Kate's whining. Then I thought well she was a talent of theirs and was on both DWTS and Wife Swap. They may want to sort of keep her on the back burner should another opportunity at a quick buck come up with her. For that reason I can believe this could have happened. ABC I think is a bit more willing than many networks to maintain good will with their talent being they're Disney and lean family friendly. It wasn't worth a marginal boost in ratings to have TFW take to Radar with some article coming up with something to trash them about. It's such a detailed rumor and so classic Kate it's hard to believe it came out of thin air. And with her so hot to sue why would you say that if it were a total lie? That's ballsy.

I don't recall this particular extension of the rumor that Jon would be on DWTS anywhere. That Kate orchestrated a campaign to get Jon off of DWTS?
No, don't recall.
It doesn't make it true, but this is new to me.
My take is that if true, Kate's angle was to jeopardize Jon's chances by filing the suit, such that Jon would not be able to fully commit and could possible be mired in this lawsuit, with its (presumed by me) ability to call him back to the state of PA at will.
Plus, I don't think a dance floor would fit in his cabin ;-)

I don't think it's a hoax, I think perhaps that posting was a mistake. Especially since the link does bring you to the actual BN page. If you notice it says "Author Signing", whereas the one that does not say cancelled lists it as an "Author Event".

Everywhere on the BN page they list signings as "Author Events" not "Signings". Perhaps, whoever posted it tried to delete it and it came up "cancelled" instead.

At least that's what I think may have happened.

I kind of feel bad for those who ordered the book through Amazon. First, they have a delay in receiving the book and second, if they go to one of the BN signings they have to have purchased the book at BN in order to get it signed. So they will have to buy it again at BN, in order to have Kate sign it.

I totally believe that Kate kept Jon off DWTS . Simple, she told them that she was sueing him for theft and lies. I can see that they would not be interested to be in the middle of that mess. She was very chummy with the producer who chooses the celebrities .

Also, he would be making some serious money ( she made $500,000 ) and he would have money to hire a good lawyer. I think Kate is never going to go to court, she has to many skeletons in her closet, she wants to burn Jon and Robert and win by default. Would she want all her ugliness to come out ? I don't think so.

Ah, now you're on to something. She could have gone on and on to JCMay about this thing with Jon and then JCMay could have lobbied hard to replace Jon with Bill Nye. I have heard some of these DWTS negotiations get pretty intense. JCMay DOES have an interest in keeping TFW happy way more than ABC would and who knows what strings she pulled to get this done.

Normally a rumor like this would sound silly to me but this one just makes too much sense, especially given the history here. Especially with the timing of the lawsuit, further "punishment" for him for daring to try to go on DWTS and show her up, among punishment for many other things as well as a convenient way to leverage media appearances that are really about her wanting to promote her cookbook but the hook is the controversial lawsuit. Tool is not the word anymore. Deranged is much better. I've never seen someone so incredibly self-serving. What a life.

What's so pathetic about this is I've never seen anyone more eager to cut off their nose to spite their face. If Jon went on DWTS, who cares? And then he could pocket that money and help more with school expenses and clothing and food and everything else. TFW wouldn't have to screw around writing blog posts hawking products for $350 a pop because Jon would have hundreds of thousands of dollars to help support them. Idiot.

Remember this is not the first time Jon has had opportunities to support his children quashed by Kate's camp. There is precedent here. The Superbowl commercial was sabotaged too. So was Ed Hardy, he wanted to just do a one time thing to set the kids up for life and TLC said NO.

"The only reason I did it because I was offered a clothing line for my children but the network blocked it."

Kate's camp does NOT hesitate to block multi-million dollar deals for this man. They do no hesitate whatsoever.

The little fake book signing she set up with the kids last night, or so she claims, is one of the creepiest things I've ever heard. They are your CHILDREN, TFW. Not your fans. What a creep. I have never seen or heard of a celebrity ever come close to making their children do such nonsense for them, except perhaps Joan Crawford.

I feel sorry for all the fans who don't live anywhere close to a book signing.

I also think it's total B.S. that those who took the trouble to pre-order their books aren't getting them sooner than everyone else. I would be pissed too. The fan had a good point, what was the point of pre-ordering if you don't get it on the day of release or before?? Whatever happened with that anyway? PW makes it clear in her very informative posts of her real tour that she does not care where you get the book as long as you have a book. Pull one out of the dustbin, that's fine by her. You need not pay the inflated book store price if you don't want to.

Oh and she also has contact info in case you have any questions. I bet you get a response too instead of being ignored.

Sounds like she only works with bookstores who treat her fans like she would want to be treated.

yes, and I remember when the book was first announced for pre-orders, there were questions from fans that if there were a book signing at B&N, could you take your Amazon book there, or were you required to purchase one at B&N in order to have it signed.

I don't remember if Kate ever answered the question.

KitK said...

I wonder if the fake book signing with the children was really a "practice" one, as in the children being scheduled to be there to sign books, as well. TFW has done this before, she knows how it rolls, but the children have not done so. It would explain the rather-closer-to-home geographic area.

Meagler said...

Perhaps it was part of the Master plan...

Have the fans pre -order at Amazon( as wasnt that the first link provided through TFW's website at first? later came the B&N order link?) and then when it becomes available first on shelf at B&N PLUS is where the book signing are being help, those fans who pre-ordered at Amazon will have to buy at B&N if they want to see TFW for an autograph.

I think its called double -dipping. And its her fans, they wont care....they wanted multiple copies anyways!

I think just a little, "hey guys I wish I could hit each and every city but we just weren't able to make it happen. For those who are nearby I hope to see you. For those who aren't, I'll try to keep you as updated as possible on the tour via Twitter and my site and of course I'd be happy to sign your book if you just send it my way!" would go a long way.

I mean it's just nothing. Legitimate complaints are ignored. It makes her look like she really doesn't care about her fans and their needs and wants, which she probably doesn't, but she could at least fake it.

Oh I love how I saw somewhere, either Kate said it or HCI said it, if you live in Canada you can see Kate at the Canadian signing! Um, Canada is one big-ass country. Unless you live close to that signing, living in Canada really means nothing in terms of your ability to come to that event. There are places in the U.S. much closer to her Canadian signing than parts of Canada, lol.

By the way, why seek to be a celebrity if you don't like fans? An A-list celebrity who spends most of their time on movie sets or behind a gated property can get away with not enjoying fans. But someone whose career depends so much on direct promotion with the fans, like your Pioneer Womans and of course TFW, isn't going to do well if you hate interacting in person with fans. I think you really have to take an interest in these people or be darn good at faking it in order to really make a career like this work. She is CLEARLY not interested in these people. She clearly does NOT care.

I love Ree Drummond, Pioneer Woman's schedule for her upcoming book signing tour. A beautiful picture for each city she'll be visiting. She's sold almost double the amount of books Kate has in 17 days than Kate has since early March. Kate's going to Canada because she's sold a total of 45 books in a country of almost 35 Million. LOL
Will Kate be rushing home after these 7pm events to spend the night home with the kids? Who has she hired for after school, evening, and overnight care of 8 children? She says she doesn't have a nanny or babysitter. Is she hiring complete strangers to be in charge of kids at night, doing homework, driving them to and from the bus stop. Questionable parenting to me. Not one sheeple dare ask about who is looking after the kids while she's gone.

The signing in Staten Island does come up as cancelled, not postponed, when I am logged into my Barnes and Noble account, so don't understand how it's supposed to be faked.

If Jon got on DTWS and all the previous things he would've shown his ex-wife up.

She isn't letting that happen and if he makes tons of $$ he could help the kids.

But she wants to cry poor selfless hardworking mom with a deadbeat ex-husband.

It is odd that TFW is not doing a local book signing. A former neighbor of mine has written a series of books for teen girls and she always has a book signing at our local B&N. Of course, she is well liked and admired in our community. Hmmm, maybe local people do not feel the same way about TFW?

I believe TFW when she says they had a " book Signing" at home. All the kids likely lined up and took turns getting their book signed by The Queen!

Adultation is adulation even if it is is being force fed by young children. A Narcisist wouldnt discern where it was coming from as long as it was always available.

It was a "hater" who helped Paige with giving her information regarding the signing and TV show. Kate only replied to Paige after Paige asked her if she was excited that they were going to meet.

One of my Facebook friends had a couple of pics of herself and baby at one of TFWs book signings at Borders. One of her friends took a pic of her standing in front of Kate while she signed her book. This was when Kate still had that possum hair do. She looked very natural and pretty, but she looks so angry and bored! Another friend made a comment on my friend's pic. She said that she was there, but she was reading a book at one of the tables. She looked up and thought she saw a mega fan with the same hairdo. She then realized it was her! She went into the bathroom where "some guy" blocked the bathroom so no one could go in. Kind of funny!

I know right?

Often being too busy just means you're disorganized, or terrible at time management. Or can't focus on doing a few things really well and instead filling your plate with dozens of things you just do mediocre. Or perhaps are avoiding addressing your real issues (failing marriage, out of control kids, etc.) by staying busy, busy, busy. If you're constantly busy, your husband never has time to sit you down and say honey, what's going on with us?

I once had a boss who said I am NOT impressed if you come in on the weekends. In fact I just think you're probably inefficient, so I'd rather not know if you do that.

Ding ding ding ding ding. EXACTLY what this is. EXACTLY.

"Codependency is defined as a psychological condition or a relationship in which a person is controlled or manipulated by another who is affected with a pathological condition (typically narcissism or drug addiction); and in broader terms, it refers to the dependence on the needs of, or control of, another.[1] It also often involves placing a lower priority on one's own needs, while being excessively preoccupied with the needs of others.[2] Codependency can occur in any type of relationship, including family, work, friendship, and also romantic, peer or community relationships.[2] Codependency may also be characterized by denial, low self-esteem, excessive compliance, or control patterns.[2] Narcissists are considered to be natural magnets for the codependent."

I don't have much sympathy for Kate but I do have sympathy for many of her fans. What I've seen here for a long time is someone more cunning and sly and manipulative preying on others. She does it emotionally, and financially. She gets them right where she wants them and then expects them to open their pocketbooks. It's wrong. I don't like it. I've seen enough of it in real life to know how dysfunctional and toxic it is.

At the Santa Monica book signing it was obvious how hard it was for Kate to talk to anyone. She simply couldn't make small talk or fake a friendly, pleasant, welcoming expression. She looked cold and uncomfortable, like her dress was too tight or something. The thing is, that's not my comfort zone either. I would much rather talk with people I have known for a long time. But then I don't go on book signings where you're expected to talk to complete strangers. I don't put myself in such situations because it's not what I like.

When people would approach Kate's table when it was their turn, she wouldn't even say anything. Not even hi, how are you? The fan was expected to say the first thing. No smile either. The only thing she asked me before I launched into my questions about Rep. Murt was did I prefer it signed to me or just signed. It was so cold and mechanical like we were going through an assembly line. Name please? Ok, NEXT?

I don't think I've ever been to a book signing before that I can remember, but I've been to events where celebrities were there and they almost always make the first move when fans approach. Saying hi how are you, where you from, oh I know that neighborhood how nice, who's this your daughter, how cute!

I mean just NORMAL small talk. I kind of ALMOST felt bad for her, because she clearly had no idea how to do something so basic and what's more it seemed painful for her.

So again I ask, why do this when so much of this lifestyle involves such things? I don't understand it.

So Narcisissts cast out a net hoping to hook people in. I think they hook in a wide variety of people.

Those with healthy boundaries catch on pretty quick, dont second guess those alarm bells that go off in their heads, and hightail it pretty fast and far away from the Narcissist.

Those with " helper" type personalities ( which I can fall into) stay around for a bit longer as we think we might be able to "fix" the narcissist. Perhaps we are the ones who venture to try and point out the inconsistancies we see the Narcissist portraying until we realize the Toxicity is going to kill us, so we either 1) get out, or....

2) become co-dependent. Are these the people who then figure they can not beat ( fix ) them so lets just join them?

I recall a time when Milo was tweeting inconsistancies about what TFW was saying trying to nudge her to correct them to no avail.

Now it appears she has just joined in the co-dependency group. Its easier that way.

Agree, agree, and then there is a third group, rather rare, like Steve who sort of seem to hold the key to the narcissist where she is able to behave for that person and listen to them.

If you think about it, being a celebrity is perfect for narcissists because many fans are fans because of something missing in their own lives--they already come pre-disposed such that they fall for your tricks easier than the average person. This is why in real life you might see a narcissist with TONS of sort of "casual" friends and tons of fans who do all kinds of things for them, but among the INNER circle numerous failed marriages, family members who keep their distance, no close friends or only a few who are co-dependent, a string of nannies and assistants who just never seem to work out, children who resent them, etc. Check.

I actually find that when I do cleaning in short spurts like during commercials, or in between other things I like to do, I stay more focused.

Otherwise, what starts out as cleaning out a closet turns into turning the whole room inside out like a spring clean which really doesnt need to be done more then 1-2 a year. For many years, I was doing a spring like cleaning in my house almost every Month. My whole upstairs got a good going over and it would take me 3 days to finish.

EVERY. MONTH. I was a stay at home mom then. I pitied my kids during those 3 days. They never saw me. What changed things?

A woman I knew who worked outside of the home said to me that she felt sorry for moms who stayed at home as she felt SAHM held themselves to a high standard of always cooking, baking, cleaning , having the house decorated to the MAX for every occasion. This woman said she just put up a tree at Christmas and spent about 1-2 nights baking with her kids and she had no reason to believe that her kids were any less happy then those who had elaborated houses with decorations and spent days and days baking.

So I decided to give it a try. One year I didnt put the sugarplum garland out over the bedroom doors. No one even noticed.

The next year, no garland over the cupbaords or over the front and back doors. No one even noticed.

I have now scaled back to where We put the tree up one night, and some other decorations another night ( I do love my decorations) and it works. And I have many many more days of R&R to really enjoy the true meaning of Christmas.

And I really dont even have to spring clean anymore as I try to handle it all spread out evenly over the year.

If anyone else is looking to be freed in the same way...check out www.flybaby.com

I was in the mall today so I thought I'd pop into BN to see if they stocked TFW's book. The cookbook section in my BN is on the second floor, straight ahead as soon as you get off the escalator. The first thing you see is a large table displaying cookbooks. Some of the cookbooks were by Giada (three of her cookbooks including Everyday Italian which was originally published in 2005), Ina Garten (several of her cookbooks), Trisha Yearwood, Bobby Dean, Rachel Ray and Bobby Flay among others. TFW's was not there.

I headed over to the shelves and spent about 10 minutes trying to find this book. Couldn't find it in the regular section, or in the baking, entertaining, grilling, dessert, cookies, healthy, or any other section. Just as I was about to leave I glanced over to the far left and there was a row of shelves with the cover of books facing out. I walked over there and there they were. The smiling G's. There were five copies on the second shelf. These shelves didn't even look like they were part of the cookbook section. I glanced through the book and thought there was more photos of the kids than there were recipies.

One thing I did notice about the cover. Because TFW had her eight moneymakers on the cover, no one stands out and they look small. However, with Giada, Ina and Trisha Yearwood, for example, they are the only ones on the cover of their cookbooks so their photo is up close and large. And because of this you can tell who wrote the cookbook without even looking at the author. TFW is a former shadow of herself and the people who haven't kept up with what she is doing, won't realize it's her until they read her name.

I can't imagine this cookbook will do well. I was amazed at all the different cookbooks that were displayed. If you truly love cooking, TFW's cookbook isn't the book you'll be buying. I think I'll stop in this weekend to see how many sold.

Oh gawd. Colic. I have forgotten how awful it was :(

(I`ll put a disclaimer here: check with pediatrician before taking advice from moms who`ve had colic babies and found remedies that worked for them)

If their tummy was distended I put a castor oil pack on it with a warm water bottle and then swaddle and rock, walk, or swing as Mel and franky said (the swing worked best). Repetitive movement seems to be very soothing to them.

There are several sites on the net with instructions on how to make a castor oil pack proper.

Tell her to hang in there Cape, they do get over colic even though at the time, it seems like they never will. But they will and they do.

Remember this is not the first time Jon has had opportunities to support his children quashed by Kate's camp. There is precedent here. The Superbowl commercial was sabotaged too. So was Ed Hardy, he wanted to just do a one time thing to set the kids up for life and TLC said NO
___________
If it is true that the blind item was about Jon, I don't see it as remotely similar to the situation after he quit the show. In this case, it is an act of revenge by a wrathful woman so focused on crushing the father of her children that she has lost all perspecive, let alone common sense. Obviously, it would be in the best interest of her kids if both parents were financially comfortable.

However, Jon had a contract with TLC, and , for years he was well-paid for that contract. He broke the contract and settled because there probably wasn't much of a case to be made since he was of sound mind when he signed those contracts. TLC invested in that family, and corporations protect their investments. And, IMO, it is probable that he continued to draw a salary large enough to justify his $23,000/month child support.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am always held to the contracts that I sign. I just sold a business that required me to sign a non-compete agreement for two years. If I break that agreement, I will get sued. How is his contract any different? The Gosselin family were assets of greedy corporation, and Jon and TFW were responsible for that. Possibly, if Jon had approached TLC and tried to negotiate with them, there may have been some kind of arrangement that would have benefitted everyone. But, Jon was belligerent, and hired a big-mouthed attorney that, in the end, wasn't very competent. IMO, most of his financial problems are a consequence of very poor choices.

While I agree that the article does sound like Jon, I agree with the posters that said she doesn't have that kind of power, or, that DWTS would shy away from any kind of publicity--the more buzz, the better. If they didn't want that, then why have one of the most polarizing wormen on earth on the show? I think he would have had a lot of fun, and would work hard, and it may have given him a boost that would get him into something that can support himself and contribute to the family. I'm not saying for sure that TFW blocked Jon--but, I am skeptical.

Oh dear. Gluten has absolutely nothing to do with organic. There is no relation whatsoever. Either organic or non-organic can be gluten free and not all organic is gluten free. Such basic concepts, yet so confusing to the sheeple.

Moreover shouldn't you ask your doctor for help with this? They could even refer you to a nutritionist that insurance may very well cover a few sit downs with. Gluten is SERIOUS. Well me too but I've never been in a situation where a contract I signed posed a moral and ethical problem for me. It's different when your children are involved. If you signed a contract that you initially did not think was going to be a problem for your children, and later realized due to an unanticipated change in circumstances (divorce) that it had become a serious problem for them (having to go through divorce on national T.V.), there's nothing wrong with breaking it. In fact, it would be morally wrong not to breach it. Contracts are breached all the time by good people when such things happen, it's just a matter of deciding whether it's more harmful to continue with the contract or to stop and whether you are prepared to deal with the fallout.

For instance, say you had a contract to paint your friend's house and like most people you always thought contracts should be honored. Then you later found out that person is bringing his mistress over to the house as you paint. I would have no problem with that person stepping away from the situation and saying you know what this has put me in a dicey situation and I really shouldn't be here I'm going to have to breach this contract and suffer the consequences. There are chapters and chapters on intentional breach of contracts in law school, it happens so often the topic takes entire semesters to cover!

, I agree with the posters that said she doesn't have that kind of power, or, that DWTS would shy away from any kind of publicity--the more buzz, the better. If they didn't want that, then why have one of the most polarizing wormen on earth on the show?

&&&

It's a balancing thing. Yes they want the publicity, no they do not want to burn bridges either. They can get publicity from lots of stars. I really do think they've got Kate on their back burner and may POSSIBLY do something with her in the future. They might do another all-stars season, or another Wife Swap, for instance. She pulled decent ratings for them on DWTS and CWS, as irritating as that is, it's a fact. It is soo not worth it to them to piss her off, I really don't think it is. If Julie Carson May works the phones and said this is going to be a serious problem for my client for any future projects with you, I can see that influencing them.

I have no idea if this is what happened, but I do believe it could have.

And like I said, who is stupid enough to make up a story out of thin air what with the lawsuits flinging around. She WILL sue, she's proven that much. The only way to protect yourself is to make sure any story you throw out there is 100% true.

______________________________________________

Wasn't there a discussion here about tabloids putting out false stories and celebs not bothering to sue them because it wasn't worth their time and money? Like The Streisand effect. I remember reading that here.

Do you really think TMZ, RadarOnline, Perez Hilton makes sure their stories are 100% true before releasing them?? Most of their stories are PURE GOSSIP. Hell, they're calling Lamar Odom a freakin' crackhead with no proof! So, no, I don't buy that a 'blind gossip' item is 100% true. That's silly logic to me. YMMV.

Kate even tweeted that story that Radar put out about her book tanking was false. Is she suing them? No. There's too many stories out there about her that she thinks are false. She'd be suing 1/2 the internet then.

For example, Kirstie Ally is currently in a VERY public feud with Leah Remini over something extremely important to Kirstie. I'm sure Kirstie was fit to be tied when Leah was cast. If Kirstie (and I'm not saying she did) who is A-List, was unable to stop DWTS producers from casting Leah, what makes you think Kate, who is D-List at best, has the clout to do it? Not to mention Kirstie was on TWO seasons, including All Stars.

DWTS is looking for controversy. For a 'family friendly' network, they had no problem casting Chaz Bono, whom 'family friendly' people were up in arms about. DWTS producers didn't care. They got high ratings for that.

I'm sure there's many more examples but it's late and I'm tired. LOL

On a different note. Does anyone have any suggestions on colicky babies? My 8 week old grandaughter has it and is having a tough time. My daughter's talked to the pediatrician and she's tried a few things but any tips would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

======

Yes! Yes, yes, yes. My son had terrible colic. Where it was supposed to end at, say, thirty days, his continued on. The doctors were absolutely useless. I used to call, crying myself. Holding a colicky baby for hours every day will do that to you. (I also had a second child just a year older.)

I would put him on the washing machine and place wave sounds at super high volume. Sometimes I'd put static on the radio up loud. All these things would help him not cry, but his eyes were wide and something still hurt him.

Then we found the cause! My sister-in-law read a small blurb in Parents Magazine saying dairy the mother eats passes to the child through breast milk. I went off dairy and the colic ended like magic!

When I went off dairy for him, I realized the cramps I'd had intermittently for years also went away--that's how I learned I was dairy intolerant.

I also had colic as a baby. He's the only one of my four who is dairy intolerant and the only one who had colic.

99% of Native Americans, 90% of Sicilians, and 80% of Southern Italians are dairy intolerant. Now when I meet someone who tells me they're dairy intolerant, I ask them if they have Italian or Native American genes. Most say yes. (We do, too.)

Good luck to your daughter, capecodmama!

I just realized saying "put him on the dryer" sounds weird. I would strap him into his little seat on top of the dryer, turn the dryer on, and stand beside him. The gentle motion and hum seemed to help soothe him.

You gave some great examples, particularly Kirstie feuding with Leah Riminey (sp?) and Leah is on DWTS. Plus, Kirstie made it to the "all stars".

However, I don't recall any of the prior DWST "controversial" contestants being actively engaged in a lawsuit in which they were being sued, especially in the shotgun way Jon is.
I think Kate's agent/manager could have made a compelling case to DWTS to drop Jon.

"Blind Gossip" gets away with everything because it is anonymous. That tidbit sounded too much like what is discussed here and we speculate. I don't think we should jump on their wagon that any of what is published is fact. It would be interesting, though, if their source was Jon or Robert. So if either of them or someone from DWTS confirms Kate's conspiracy to block Jon a source of income, then this will blow up in her face and affect the lawsuit.

Frankly, Jon opened his mouth first about DWTS. It sounded to me like testing the waters (issuing a challenge that he could beat Kate) to see if DWTS would nibble. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't.

**********
Good point about the cover and that would have been excellent advise to give Kate.
I looked at Ree Drummond's and Amy Rolloff's covers and they are front and center, in focus and the kids are a bit out of focus (in the bokeh) in the background. This staging tells the story that mom is the cook and author, she's got kids, the recipes are going to be relatively easy and kid friendly and you'll probably be reaching for this book to get dinner ideas.
Kate's cover includes bunny ears and raw cookie dough, with Kate not doing anything related to cooking. Seriously, if you didn't know this was a cookbook with recipes, you might assume it's yet another book that Kate wrote about her kids private lives.

Tucker's Mom said...

Re: Kate's cookbook cover- I haven't seen it in person yet but it truly does look too busy and I mentioned before, not focused on its message.
Actually, the range hood gets top billing, and what's actually in there, recipes and traditions, is all the way at the bottom.

There's one thing about Steve that I just don't quite understand. He goes for very long stretches in between having to "GUARD" Kate. Does he not have other clients that he may have to work with on these particular dates that make him not available? Or does Kate just expect him to be at her beck and call?

I've never booked a book signing, so I'm understandably at a loss when it comes to this being a blast!!
Anyone?
Frankly, unless the tour is first class with food and travel, I think they'd be a slog.

=======

Slog is right, Tucker! Dull, sometimes demoralizing, grueling, tedious.

When people approach, you have to smile brightly and say hello (unless you're Kate, heehee), allow them just enough time to browse the covers (how long is that?), ask if they have questions at the right moment--all while looking enthusiastic and welcoming but not desperate.

You hope they'll buy, but many don't. Some walk away without a smile or thank you. Sometimes children play with the books and the parents say nothing. You're watching those covers get creased... Some set their coffee on the book covers. Once a potential buyer spilled her coffee all over the tablecloth, narrowly missing all the books! (But I did get a speaking engagement from it months later.)

You make $1.50 or $2 per book on B&N sales, so unless you have hundreds of buyers, your time is all promotion and not much income.

Each person who approaches is like a blind date... Just imagine what a "blast" that is! And given Kate's personality, it must be much worse for her. I at least LIKE people.

mamaK said...

So, like some others I went to my local B&N to see if the book was there. They had about 5 copies tucked in the cookbook section, facing out. None on display anywhere else that I saw. I flipped through it. The layout is really weird. The recipes are all in the front and the tips/traditions are all in the back. So not much for "mixing". And other than major holidays, didn't seem to be many fun tips.
What stood out to me, though, was reading her recipe for Turkey stock. (specifically turkey.) She has you using the carcass and water, and then a t of this and a t of that. That's all. However, the included photo (full page) of this recipe shows stock bubblin away with carrots and onions, a bay leaf, and a sprig of something (thyme?) which you would normally expect in a recipe for stock. It just so blantently did not match the recipe it stuck out like a sore thumb.
Makes me wonder who really cooked and put this book together.

Possibly, if Jon had approached TLC and tried to negotiate with them, there may have been some kind of arrangement that would have benefitted everyone.

--------------------------

How do we know that he didn't? There must have been so much going on at that point, that nobody except Jon,, the suits at TLC and the attorneys would actually know the details, what transpired and why no amicable settlement was reached. Not everything was put out there for public consumption.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

You know how People mag. said that TLC was happy to do a follow up special but it was on the condition that Jon be involved, but Kate refused?

I always assumed Kate just couldn't bring herself to work side by side with Jon again because her hatred runs so deep. Now I wonder if the real issue for her is not so much working with him, but rather just making sure that JON doesn't get an opportunity to be on T.V. and make money--even if it means she won't get one either. Pretty twisted if that's the case.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Most of their stories are PURE GOSSIP.

&&&

I disagree. I think most of their stories have at least a grain of truth to them or at least come from a good source, which helps deter against lawsuits. Radar always twists so much of their facts but they almost always throw in enough truth that a suit is not worth it.

Blowing In The Wind said...

Here's a really dumb question...

Fans knew that the book was not only being pre-sold on Amazon, but also through B&N. They also had hoped that there was going to be a book tour. There was talk about a book tour -- many hoping that Kate would show up near them.

Knowing this, then why would so many of them have ordered from Amazon if they were expecting to possibly attend a signing at B&N? Certainly they didn't expect to take their Amazon book to the signing...that defeats the whole purpose of having her sign at B&N, the purpose of which is to sell books there.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Kim was saying BOOKING the signings was a blast actually. I guess that means working the phone? I don't get what's so fun about that, lol.

But actually doing the signings don't sound fun to me either. Though for some people who like meeting strangers and like to chit-chat with people they've never met before I guess it might be fun.

Oh they're not going to think that far ahead. It was live in the moment for the fans.

That said, at the Santa Monica book signing I was allowed to bring my Amazon book. But I did ask ahead of time.

PW is promoting Sunny's cookbook from Food Network. I'm sure she gets a cut when she's linking to Amazon, but it can't be much. It's counterintuitive to promote the competition right? But if someone buys Sunny's book, they probably buy other cookbooks like PW's. And if they like PW's recommendation, they are more apt to trust PW's recommendations in the future, including her own products, as well as other products she gets a cut from. Sunny makes money but so does PW, both directly and indirectly, and through building good will and trust. Brilliant, PW. I love win-wins in business. I can't in a million years see TFW promoting someone else's cookbook when she has her own to sell. She would never be able to understand why that's a brilliant idea.

Excellent points about the heads on other cookbooks. It's usually a close-up so if you were walking right past it at the bookstore you could see who it was out of the corner of your eye. By crowded nine people on the cover, you've lost that "quick glance" reader who is walking by.

I agree about JCM possibly making a good case against Jon. I can see her saying I know Bill Nye and Jon very well and here are my statistics for Bill Nye, when he went on X show X number of ratings came in, he pulls in this particular crowd, etc. It's even possibly BN took a pay cut for the gig. Plus since BN is still on her payroll and not Jon it's to her advantage to push BN.

As far as other controversies I agree with Tucker about that too. They don't shy away from controversy, but I've never seen them get involved in a controversy that aggressively targets a former talent of theirs. Putting someone on who is surrounded by media buzz due to a sex change is different than putting someone on whose controversy links directly back to a former talent of yours. They also might not like the idea of appearing to "take sides" in a lawsuit by bringing Jon aboard. They don't take on just any controversy. Remember there were pretty credible rumors they were considering Paula Deen? Obviously that was too dicey for them. They draw lines, for sure.

Blowing In The Wind said...

--------------------

That's what I was wondering. Do all book stores allow you to bring books that you have purchased elsewhere? If you bought it at B&N before the signing, would you have to show your receipt that you bought it there, or do they take your word for it? Is there someone at the door making sure that you don't bring books into the store to sign? I don't know...I never did it that way. I don't pre-order books. If I see that an author is doing a signing, I'll go to the store, purchase the book there and stand in line.

What if you have other books at home by the same author. Do they allow you to bring those to be signed, or just the current ones that they are selling?
