'I've never had a job in my life that I was better than. I was always just lucky to have a job. And every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job, and I never quit my job until I had my next job. And so opportunities look a lot like work.'

Ashton Kutcher's profoundly honest, tough-love speech in an unlikely venue was something every helicoptered kid needed to hear. And maybe some adults, too.

Don't waste your money on Jobs, but listen to this speech.

"I believe that opportunity looks a lot like hard work. When I was thirteen I had my first job with my dad carrying shingles up to the roof. And then I got a job washing dishes at a restaurant. And then I got a job in a grocery store deli. And then I got a job at a factory sweeping Cherrio dust off the ground. And I've never had a job in my life that I was better than.  I was always just lucky to have a job.  And every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job, and I never quit my job until I had my next job.  And so opportunities look a lot like work."

PrairieMary and MaryAnn,
I am also a mother who has lost a child, and it infuriates me when TFW whines about "all she has been through". She has no idea--NONE--what it feels like to experience true loss. Her children are alive and healthy. She has never been wheeled into a freezing cold room (and known, somewhere in the back of her mind, why it is so cold)in a hospital to say goodbye to her child. She has never held a baby who will never open her eyes, ever. She hasn't had to pick out the outfit that her child will wear forever. She thinks she has had it rough? She has no idea. She should be on her knees every day, thanking God for her healthy, living children.

TFW's last book signing tour didn't happen. So why is she scheduled to do book signings and a media tour with this current cookbook that has minimal orders and interest? Is she that desperate to pay Steve for some alone time together? She needs to realize that if he hasn't left his wife and divorced her by now, it's not going to happen. I don't believe this publishing company is paying for his services or even her travel, room, food etc. for her to sell and sign a handful of books at each store location. She could easily be protected by the malls' or local security guards for each book signing. If she's that desperate to pay a premium for Steve's companionship at this point, she seriously needs counseling to get over him and to find a real boy friend. At least Jon has a real girlfriend.

Mel said...

If they are acting out/up, there is a reason. Very few children are jerks for no reason at all.

I can't decide about this. When they're lower elementary age I think it can be true, but not always. Some kids are just plain brats. Sometimes due to lack of parental guidance, but they are brats just the same.

How do they learn to stop that behavior? Their friends start saying, enough.

By the time of late elementary/middle school, I think just plain brattiness comes into play more often, especially amongst the girls.

Does 'be nice' mean you have to sit with someone who's been mean to you at lunch? Every day?
And why your kid every day? Why can't the girls take turns then? Why does your kid have to do it every day? Cuz she's the nice one (the principal thought he/she could manipulate her), and the others draw the line in the sand?

That's not right, either. Enough is enough. If someone behaves badly towards you, you shouldn't have to eat lunch with them. Action, consequence.

I guess it's who ever pulls the bully card first is the real victim.

And this is where Kate excels. She is very quick to play the bully/victim card. Look how she very quickly portrayed herself as the victim, even before the kids were born.

She was even doing playing the victim card further back in life...portraying herself enough the victim that she had to go live with the boyfriend's family.

She did it with her brother, mean old dad/mom, poor me. You go take the punishment for poor victim me.

It's been a technique that has worked well for her.

Here's my theory. I think SHE paid HCI a set fee for marketing and I think SHE bears all the risk, not HCI. With the right money and contacts anyone can scrounge up a press tour especially when it's not their money to gamble with. I don't think HCI cares if the book sells 100 copies or 100,000, since Kate already paid them their cut upfront.

In contrast, Zandaran (spelling?) was a real publisher that published her last book I Just Want You to Know, and because they're a real publisher, they bore the expenses and risks, not Kate. They weren't willing to shell out massive amounts of money to come up some big book tour on a book that was going to flop, and at that time Kate wasn't willing to pony up the costs of things they weren't willing to pay for. (She's more desperate now)

Zandaran could have easily stuck her mug in a dozen other Barnes and Nobles stores and scrounged up some more interviews, but it made no sense for them financially since it wasn't going to sell many more books. After the first signing was a flop with only a few dozen people showing up and Kate crying in a utility closet, they cut the cord on the whole campaign.

Also, remember they did next to NO promotion for the Barnes and Noble book signing? I almost sympathized with Kate when she was upset that no one was there, because how can you really judge if anyone would have come if you don't promote it? I remember we only heard about it a few days before and if I recall that was just because Barnes put it on their schedule. I think this was just a test run and Zandaran just wasn't willing to put even the tiniest budget toward promoting it.

Yes and all these extreme anti bullying campaigns have stripped away a kids' rights to give each other feedback and get after that bad behavior quickly. What's funny I can see these campaigns making the divide between bullies and picked on kids WORSE because no one is getting any feedback about what's appropriate behavior and what's not. Nobody knows. Feedback is so important. Adults and kids need feedback. Every time you ask your husband or kids or a friend, hey is there something bothering you? Did I say something wrong? What do you think if I did this? What if I said this to this person? Did I overstep my bounds here? Or, am I being too passive here? Do I look silly in this outfit? You're asking for feedback on your socialization skills. Socialization is a life long process. When I ask questions like that I don't want people to think they can't answer honestly.

Another thing I don't like about the extreme anti bullying is it wants kids to lie and pretend they like things or people they don't. I think people should be allowed to dislike people and things, as long as they are always kind and respectful, without fear of being called a bully. Likes and dislikes are a normal part of life. That's how we all found each other--we really disliked what we were seeing on TLC.

I have a personal story and an opinion. I have tried to type my strong feelings twice. Both times, I deleted.

Me, too. I've started several posts, and then stopped.

Like, JoyinVirginia, I think the conversation has been enlightening.
Like I said yesterday, two divergent points of view, both of them true.

I was the bullied kid in school. And also the 'nice' one that the would be asked to play with another kid.
I was too "nice" to say "No. She's mean to me and I've had enough."

So many times in life I've wished that I'd been wired bratty. It's hard to always be the one that gets walked all over, the one who doesn't seem to know how to stand up for herself.

As an aside:
A while back on here I did stand up for myself on a particular post...I posted several times defending my original post.

And Silimom was the one who told me to drop it, let it go.
Was that kind? No. But it was her opinion, to which she was entitled.
Did I feel bullied? No. She was just stating her opinion.

Will I post on that topic again? Maybe. But I'll be a little more self-conscious about what I say. :-)

You know what's sad too about anti-bullying. I 100% believe that those that have pushed these campaigns through have their hearts in the right place. They saw a serious problem and worked hard for a solution. And in many places these campaigns have made huge differences to a level that's quite frankly moving.

But what's also happened, sadly, is that some people have taken advantage of it to paint their mean or nasty or spoiled child as the victim, or to do in essence a reverse bullying to force a perfectly decent kid to do things they shouldn't have to do or spend time on things they have no time for what with all the other obligations kids have. Or distort the meaning of bullying to try to quash free speech or reasonable feedback exchanged among kids. This anti bullying campaign has allowed a very easy out for cunning but nasty children and parents, in that if they just say the magic word "bully" all of a sudden their bad child is the victim now and no one can say anything about it. And this is serious stuff, because there have been legislation and lawsuits about bullying that give them even more room to manipulate and leverage the system.

Essentially, what Kate has done. She, the biggest bully of all, has taken advantage of the anti bully campaign and used and manipulated it to her advantage to a downright shameful degree, cumulating in using all the people that support it to get behind her in a lawsuit to sue her children's father. She completely manipulated and distorted the whole thing just to get to the end game: GET JON. The whole alleged incident with the harddrives has NOTHING to do with bullying. Nothing! And yet somehow, manipulative Kate has convinced her fans it does. How the heck??? See what I mean though? She is NOT the first that has done this sort of massive manipulation to their disturbing advantage.

Again, not all people are doing this. But we know some are just by watching TFW.

The antibullying campains really get to me. I think it is seriously overdone. A child got hit on the school bus. That child's mother jumped on the "he's being bullied" bandwagon and wanted to go off on the other kid. The other kid was a kindergartner without guidance on the bus who was flinging something around. That's not bullying. Another group of boys were playing and get mad and one says "I'm not going to play with you anymore." He's declared a bully. In my day that was just how kids were.
The problem with it is that the labels tend to stick. A bully is given up for hopeless and is considered someone to stay away from, and the bullied students tend to go further into a cave of solitude.
And yet, there is no positive reinforcement for kind behavior. There are only anti-bully campains no kindness counts ones. So how are they to learn if from the age of 5 they are branded a bully?

thank you Mel and Admin and anyone else who maybe doesn't agree with me, but hasn't given me a stern lecture on something that was taken, I feel, personally. I was genuinely trying to make a comparison to TFW's cries of bullying and expecting others to bow down when in fact she is disliked FOR A REASON. There were LEGIT reasons my daughter "disliked" this kid, EXCLUDING Autism, developmental delays, issues at home or any other illegitimate criteria. The condescending tone of the lecture wasn't necessary.

"I am sorry your child was forced to sit next to another child and eat lunch with them because no one else in the school would and that one day of their life was ruined apparently by having contact with this child who does not live up to your expectations."

That comment was downright insulting and ignorant.

As far as TFW paying to be on TV, I don't know, but I also don't believe she's receiving much for her appearances, if anything, regarding this upcoming book. I also do believe she will pay a premium for Steve's presence at any appearances or signings because she hasn't moved on in any other relationships with men and can't accept the fact that any time with him now is based on money and not anything emotional on his part. This is the same as her inability to move on from anything else. She's basically living in the past.

What I want to say is this: Life is hard and it's very very hard for some at a very early age. Please be kind. Teach your children to be kind. Never assume you know what is happening with a child or why. If they are acting out/up, there is a reason. Very few children are jerks for no reason at all. Something is going on. We all want to be accepted and belong; community is a basic human need. One we find here, btw
-------
I thought you said this very well. Obviously, we are all sensitive when it comes to our children. I can see both points of view, having been on both sides of the issue. School is very tough for most kids, and, for kids with ADHD and ASD, it is often a case of a round peg in a square hole. My son, who has ADHD, really blossomed in college and his career. The characteristics of ADHD make him very good at his job, but, not so much in high school.

Hello all,
I haven't commented in a while because, like Dmasy and Mel, I have an opinion, but things were getting a little hot, and I didn't want to fan any flames.

Prairiemary, MaryAnn and Layla- I am so terribly sorry for your losses. I have no other words because I simply cannot bring myself to imagine life without my girls. Hugs and thoughts of love and peace; that's all I can think to offer for your grief.

Silimom, please don't stay away too long. You will be missed until I hear from you again. I have always looked forward to your comments.

Now, a thought on how schools handle bullying. My oldest just started a new high school and I am so impressed with their tactic to curb bullying as soon as it rears its ugly head. Basically, they have a catch phrase, "We don't do that here," which every person in that school is enpowered to use anytime someone is behaving badly. It is not meant to shame, but to call out the offender. Anecdotally, if someone starts to gang up on a particular student, any kids within earshot will step forward and tell the offender, "We don't do that here," and they won't walk away until the bully does. There is no culture of he said/she said, or this group against another. Anyone doing anything "uncool" is called out. Rarely does an issue end up in the principal's office, cause the kids don't let it go that far.
I really like this because the thing I find most troubling when incidents of bullying are caught on tape is the bystanders who clearly don't like what they see, but are afraid to step in. In this school, every one steps in. The only one compelled to back down is the bully who finds himself facing a classroom, or hallway, or bus filled with kids calling him/her out.

I've been thinking about how mediocre TFW's life is and how little she has to offer in an interview.

Had there been no lawsuit, or if it had been filed AFTER the book's release, would the tv interviews have ever been scheduled? Would she have been invited to do the tv shows if all she had to 'offer' was the crookbook? As others mentioned a few weeks ago and I agree, the announcement of the lawsuit was veryyyyy conveniently timed. Coincidence? I don't think so.

W/O the interest/controversy the lawsuit has brought her, I don't think the tv interviews would have ever been booked. But, good for TFW (ugh); capitalizing on being vindictive and litigious while further hurting her kids all to help sell her stupid cookbooks.

I think PrairieMary and MaryAnn will agree that there is a level acceptance about what we can't change. None of us will ever understand the "why?" of our situation, but we have to find a way to live with it and find some kind of inner peace. I am now blessed to have a house full of noisy, rowdy boys. But I miss my only girl, every moment of every day.

What Kate doesn't understand is that, even though she complains about how hard it is to provide for 8 kids, she is so very fortunate to have those 8 kids to provide for. Organic milk is expensive, but the cost of milk is nothing compared to the privilege of having children to pour that milk for. Clothes are expensive, but she is blessed to have children to put those clothes on. Kate has been given so much, and she appreciates none of it. She always needs to have more, more, more to keep her satisfied. More stuff. More things. More objects. Junk. As she has said before, she just doesn't get it.

Millicent said...

On the topic of bullying - I may have stated here before that I am unhappy with the "zero tolerance" policy adopted by the schools in my area. What that basically means is neither teachers nor administrators will get involved to find out what happened in an incident, to try to determine if one person was the aggressor and the other was acting defensively, etc. No, both parties involved are treated as equally guilty and serve the same punishment. That is not a real solution, and all it teaches kids is don't bother reporting bullying because you'll only get in trouble and probably bullied worse afterward.

I have a sister with Downs. She is the youngest child, and I am 7 years older than she. So I grew up feeling protective toward her even more than I would a regular younger sibling, because she was treated differently and also because she doesn't have a mean bone in her body and thus is easy prey for bullies and mean people. At that time, people weren't as accustomed to seeing Down's children and many people would out right stare at her when we were out in public, and even make comments within our hearing. My parents would simply ignore it and we were told to do the same, but it burned me up fiercely. So it became second nature to step up in school if I saw someone getting picked on.

But to be required to do so by a teacher, especially if it doesn't rotate among the other children, is unfair and not the way for teachers to handle the situation.

It's odd, but my son (high schooler) says that his peers have evolved from bullying and that it's considered very uncool to bully on his campus. I'm sure he can't be 100% correct, but it does give me hope that today's kids at least think about these things, realize that bullying is not okay and make efforts not to participate in that kind of behavior.

lukebandit said...

Admin, can kate withdraw the lawsuit, even if they have already started depositions and she is getting very upset about the questions and even refusing to answer them? Can she plead the 5th?

I remember in the Cindy/George Anthony case that Cindy wouldn't answer the questions and the attorney would have to ask her again and again, or she would be in contempt of court. That means Jail Time!

Also, if kate survives the depositions and it actually goes to trial, can she then drop the lawsuit?

Mr. Judge Man, give me a dream

This is what I was thinking too. What sort of publicity push is there for this book signing tour? I know a schedule was shared here, but I forget the details. Or will this mainly be advertised by a poster in the book store window?

He's never been exclusive to TLC or any one family at a time. Steve's company is contracted by TLC to provide security to their reality show families but he still has contracts with others. He's (his company) worked for J&K, The Little Couple, and Honey Boo Boo's family and maybe others we haven't noticed. I'm sure he picks and chooses which jobs to handle himself and which ones to assign to his employees. This is a little off topic, but I just saw a headline that Dina Lohan was arrested for DUI in her BMW (that was paid for with the exploitation of her children, no doubt). Why do I see this happening some day to TFW? Eventually, I suspect, all of this show biz rejection that Kate has experienced over the last few years will probably play on her emotions eventually. At the moment she's probably still in denial but eventually, something will happen to push her over the edge and we may see her in the next headline with a similar situation as Dina.

Anyway, here is a website with a bunch of photos of Dina. I thought the way she looked in some reminded me of TFW.

We're seeing more and more of that lately - I think a lot of parents nowadays are afraid to "parent" their children. OT because this article is by a former Big Brother houseguest, but related to reality TV since the author Dr. Ragan Fox ph.d. is a communications professor and this is a scholarly article. it was linked from the jokers site. His article talks about creating a narrative using stereotypical characters within the constructs of the game of Big Brother. His article can be viewed for free at http://ww.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/15295036.2012.755051
Sorry I don't know how to make it shorter.
There is an observed experience, but also a lived experience that is interpreted by the viewers experiences. Interesting way of thinking about reality TV. I found this explanation interesting.
”Phenomenological explanations of Narrative:
Temporal expectations of a story shape the very way we perceive phenomena regardless of whether our not we know the beginning of a tale or have witnessed its conclusion.” Dr Fox attributes that concept to J.M.Allison, 1994, Narrative and Time:A Phenomenological Reconsideration.

This makes me think about how any reality production company structures episodes. Who is the central character? Who is the ”villain” ? Who is the character you root for? Who is the character who the audience cares about and wants to follow their journey? How do you make the central characters or story engaging if the people are doing mundane things? Is there a conflict for drama? How do you create drama if there is none in a mundane event?
TFMJG thought that a creation for TV entertainment and ultimately the network profit was real life. Not realizing that she would be discarded like any thing that is used up and has served its purpose, just as soon as it was no longer sufficiently profitable.

Try as I might, I cannot imagine Kate on "Katie" again! ET and Extra will be brief, but Katie will be sitting across from TFW why? Here are the questions I would like Ms.Couric to ask TFW:

Kate, I understand the pre-sales of your cookbook have been disappointing, do you think the public has lost interest in you?

Kate, the public knows how polarizing you are, do you think it's because you will not let go of your celebrity and settle back into a private life for you and your children?

I know you will not be able to comment on your lawsuit against Jon, but this must be very upsetting to your children to see their father getting dragged in to court, have you thought about that?

We last saw you on Celebrity Wife Swap, you seemed very comfortable in L.A., would you move your children away from Pennsylvania, and their father, to pursue your desire to remain relevant?

Now that your twins are at an age where they can supervise the sextuplets, would you do as your husband has done and work at any job, or will you continue to create ways to stay in the public eye by "piecing and patching"?

Instead, what will happen is this:

Katie will comment on how "fabulous" TFW looks, so fit, and so attractive. There will be a BS exchange on how much the EIGHT kids begged her to write this cookbook, so every child can have loving, memory-filled meals. They will talk about how Kate just wants "peace" for her kids and suing Jon will bring them that. And, of course along with HER 8 supporting her lawsuit, they also want mommy to have her dating show to get a new daddy, one that will replace the deadbeat, mediocre one.

And, that's a wrap!

I'm a little late to the discussion, but I just wanted to share an experience we had. When my daughter was in third grade her teacher made her a helper to another student in her class. I'm not sure if the student was a child with autism, a developmental delay, or what, but he struggled with academics. My daughter got scolded by the teacher one day because she snapped at the student she was assigned to help! My daughter (through tears) explained to me that she kept trying to explain the work to the kid, and he wouldn't stop goofing around and talking over her. Let me tell you - I was NOT happy. I called the teacher and told her that, while I want my daughter to be kind and helpful, she was DONE being that student's helper. It was the teacher's job to teach that boy, and I felt my daughter was put in a very difficult position. And for the teacher to reprimand my child because she expressed genuine frustration was not acceptable. I work with students with a variety if special needs, and it is not always easy.

That comment was downright insulting and ignorant

*******
And I will apologize for that remark.

Yes, as I said yesterday, I was projecting and obviously I did take your remark personally. I have a hard time with people making judgements about anyone, and in particular children because I am on that other side of the fence as our several of my good friends and we have "those kids" who are in other kids' faces trying to play with them and not getting that there is a right way and wrong way to do it. As parents we get that our kids look like spoiled brats to people who just see the behavior without knowing all the facts. We are doing our best and using our energy and resources to help them learn the correct way because that is simply what a parent does or at least should. It is a process, though, and it takes time.

I have watched as ASD children are ostracized by their peers because of their behavior and, with all due respect Admin and others, unlike neurotypically (or "normally") developing children, that type of peer pressure does not teach kids on the spectrum to alter their behavior for a variety of reasons that I could go on about but frankly don't want to. If you want to know more, you can google "Autism Spectrum Disorder".

I am going to share something else now to try and give you a perspective on my reaction only because in retrospect I think it had a lot to do with why I reacted so angrily to your comment yesterday:

Last year, through my involvement with a special education committee, I witnessed at a school site meeting meant to educate about Autism a large group of parents at this school threaten to pull their own children out of the school because the district had started a mainstreaming program at that school and these parents didn't want "those spoiled brats interfering with our children's right to learn. We don't want to see our kids' test scores go down because of a couple of kids who are retards anyway". That was a direct quote and the rest didn't get much better after that. Needless to say, I was exceptionally angry and while I thought I had processed those feelings, it is clear that I still have some issues that need to be dealt with because your comment triggered a very visceral reaction.

Just as there was with my own story, obviously there is more to your story then you have shared and I should have been mindful of that rather than reactive and defensive. I can see my hypocrisy because I know, maybe more than others, that there always at least two sides to every story.

I do not know your whole story but I do hope, as I suggested in my response to you yesterday, that you do bring this up with your school's principal and the superintendent of instruction for your district, if you haven't already so that perhaps some good can come of it.

I do apologize for insulting you.

"thank you Mel and Admin and anyone else who maybe doesn't agree with me, but hasn't given me a stern lecture on something that was taken, I feel, personally."

----------------

I agree with you and I didn't give you a stern lecture! I'm just wondering how your post escalated to the autism and special needs thing when you didn't mention it at all, and then got told to get educated on autism. Did I miss something?

For what it's worth, I don't think that dealing with this issue should be put on the shoulders of an 11 or 12 year old. This should have been handled by the school. A child, no matter how kind and compassionate, doesn't have the skills to deal with another child who has behavior issues, or is just a mean girl. She shouldn't have to do that. As an adult, I'd have a problem of being told that I have to associate (or babysit) another adult that I just don't care for. Why not respect the fact that a child has those same rights?

There was nothing that you said that indicated that you are teaching your child to be unkind to other children. I have no idea where that came from, but sometimes posts are misunderstood, or there may be circumstances not entirely explained in a post.

What a coincidence for a pap to snap that picture of Jon and the school teacher. I believe Steve has been paid handsomely for more than holding Kate's purse.

Lynne and others - No Vanessa never said the child had autism. However, the behaviors she described are often displayed by children on the spectrum and I had asked in my first response if she had considered that this child may have ASD or some other special needs and it went from there.

Dear Sillimom -- hugs! to you and your child.

This discussion has been a good reminder that what we see on the outside may not be enough for us to gauge what's really going on inside. A child may appear to be throwing a temper tantrum like a "spoiled brat," but in reality could be autistic and experiencing a noise that is physically painful to him/her. There is such a broad spectrum on the autism scale/Asperger's scale and so many other syndromes, that as Jane Q. Public, we can't be expected to recognize any particular issue but we can always try to think compassionately rather than judgmentally. That is something I always remind myself about, as I need the reminder :)

Your personal response is understandable. And what a gracious apology. That's what I find very lovely about this blog and its regulars - even when we disagree or have a little dust up, it is usually resolved in a very civil manner.

Mel said...

And here we have how to discuss something rationally. Silimom, Vanessa...good job.
This has certainly been one enlightening conversation.

Silimom...one could tell from your post that you were having a visceral reaction, that there was way more to it than just the post you were referring to. I'm sorry you had to have such a horrible experience.

I agree that social feedback in the case of autism spectrum disorder doesn't teach the child anything.

My little granddaughter is on that spectrum. Feedback isn't something that she is capable of processing. It's getting better, but she may not ever process things normally.

She's so quiet that unless you get to know her very well, you would have no idea of the problems there. It's a real struggle to get teachers, let alone other kids, to realize/understand what goes on in that little head of hers.

Even I miss things sometimes, and I'm the nana who spends lots of time with her!

I think Jon getting caught with that teacher was too convenient. We KNOW the marriage was over way beforehand, so why is Kate crying on TV about it? She'd moved on already, but she deserved an award for her acting and her manager a big bonus for manipulating this story.
The whole "is Kate still wearing her wedding ring?" storyline was brilliant. Jon said she stole his ring, and I believe him, totally.
Kate was out there being the martyr, wearing the ring "for the children" and Jon's got no ring on, making him look bad.

Sometimes I wonder if bullying is a learned behavior or if it's an instinctive, survival-of-the-fittest nature in humans. In the animal kingdom bullying is fairly common. Wolves organize their packs in a very complex group hierarchy, lions have a dominance ranking in their lairs, chickens have the proverbial pecking order in the barnyard. And the smallest monkey knows where he stands in a tribe of gorillas.

Maybe bullying is in the human dna?

Just an observation. I'm ruminating out loud. I have no solutions.

You know, I thought the same thing, where has the edgy side of Katie Couric gone? As much as I like Anderson Cooper, I don't think he did his journalist career any favours doing his daytime show. He started off with more of a current-events-type show, then quickly switched to an entertainment format to attract more viewers. The problem with journalists moving between entertainment and news is that they are compromising their credentials as serious, hard-hitting reporters.

Katie Couric's daytime show is leaning more toward Hollywood these days, and focusing on the entertainment industry. But still, when you know someone is a shameless, fame-mongering phoney, shouldn't a former reporter ask a few hard questions? Why is TFW always given a pass? I just don't get it, I really don't.

I wonder if they are in court and she thinks she will be able to tell Katie and all the other tv interviewers all about her victory against Robert. Scent of a woman......liar is exposed and the TRUTH sets Robert free and his book is released

I'll give my take on it:

Say Hello to My Little Friend--means Robert has plenty of ammunition against Kate.

Let's Get Ready to Rumble--means he's ready to fight the lawsuit.

Do Re Mi--Do Re Mi is also slang for "money". Since the song involves children, I think it's about how Kate used/uses her children to make money.

The two clips from the Wizard of Oz-Kate is Dorothy and BV is the Wizard.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow-Kate is still wishing her dreams of being a star come true, and doesn't understand why it hasn't happened.

We're off to see the Wizard-Kate thinks that BV(the Wizard) will make all her dreams come true. She thinks he has the magic to make it happen.

Katie asked a few questions most journalists wouldn't but of course never followed up when TFW peddled her same old crap about babysitters. Mostly she was just going off the stupid script. I miss her Sarah Palin days. When Sarah Palin said oh you know I read all the newspapers, Katie kept pressing her but what specifically do you read? When Sarah Palin said oh I have foreign policy experience Katie kept pressing her about what specifically gave her experience. That was journalism. It buried Sarah and she never recovered.

They're all in bed together now and you don't see many journalists really interested in the truth anymore. Anderson my BF is after it but otherwise I've found my local radio gets to the real story the best, sniffing through the B.S. better than anyone. They are not afraid to call things out and say things that would get others labeled a bully. KFI if you're interested. Even THEY were onto Jon and Kate ages before it was ever in vogue.

The Wizard of Oz parallel is so spot on. I suppose the sheeple are the monkeys just waiting for their orders.

Scent of a Woman-I think this is a direct poke at BV, since the premise of the story is that a student refused to name the names of fellow students involved in a prank, even after being bribed(with a letter of recommendation to Harvard), where BV's main method of intimidation is to out everyone who doesn't like Kate.

I have no idea why they listed a pending but who does that? How embarrassing. Almost doesn't count. ALMOST scoring an interview with Piers doesn't count. Is this one of those, Piers' intern promised to call them back, and they put it up there as "pending"? LOL.

And I will never understand the reluctance to report and promote things. The dates and places are already out there! And what's the logic there, you want fans to come but you want to be "safe" but how can you just disclose the event to local fans and exclude anyone else? There's no way to do that. There's no way to tell who is a fan and who is not. So you just don't promote it to ANYONE? Haha what stupidity.

There are so many good ones but I think that SNL skit has to be my favorite of all time. It was perfect. Even Katie Couric with sort of the confused look on her face and blinking eyes was classic and so spot on.

I loved Game Change when they showed Sarah Palin watching it and how it sent her to rock bottom, but she picked herself back up and re-dedicated herself to not making the debates a flop too. I love her "I am not your puppet!" line.

I found that movie actually quite moving even though it showed the bad. Deep down Sarah Palin was a woman dedicated to helping John McCain no matter what. She was an absolute soldier for the cause putting everything on the line for it. I like her spunk even if politics is not where I would ever direct any spunk.

I thought the same thing, Admin. He sure is being bold, especially his Tweets. I was looking at Twitter last night and for an instant saw where Robert tweeted BV. I looked at it quickly then went to BV's timeline to see if they had been going back and forth. There was nothing on BV's TL so I went back to look again at RH's tweet and it was deleted. I wish I had paid more attention when I saw it but it was something about naps, making them strip their clothes off, and being naked. When I saw it I immediately thought it meant something about BV defending Kate beating her kids at nap time. Darn, I wish I had read it more closely but whatever it was he deleted it quickly. I'm sure I saw it. He must feel pretty confident KG is going down in this lawsuit or he wouldn't be tweeting these things. Either that or he is really stupid. I haven't quite decided on that one yet.

As far as his latest blog posts. You all had some great interpretations. I took the Scent of a Woman clip to imply he wasn't going to snitch on Jon. I took the Yellow Brick Road one to mean she's off to see the judge. The Sound of Music clip looked to me like she's getting her brood ready to perform. “One possible reason for this is that the students who are victimizing their peers have learned the language from these anti-bullying campaigns and programs,” said Seokjin Jeong, an assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice at UT Arlington and lead author of the study, which was published in the Journal of Criminology.

“The schools with interventions say, ‘You shouldn’t do this,’ or ‘you shouldn’t do that.’ But through the programs, the students become highly exposed to what a bully is and they know what to do or say when questioned by parents or teachers,” Jeong said.

Interesting.

&&&

WOW. This is sort of what I was getting at, that some cunning students and adults can manipulate anti-bullying sentiments to their own advantage. I knew some clever students growing up who would love these campaigns and eat it up. Unless an adult actually witnesses it it's entirely possible that a student could entirely fabricate a scenario where they are the victim and implicate innocent parties.

Isn't this true of TFW? Without the anti-bullying sentiment I really think she would have given up on poking all her non-fans. In fact in the good ole days she used to say block and join the fun. She used to ignore it! Now she's stirred up just an absolute shit storm.

You know what I love, too? We're not supposed to label kids, the retard, the slow kid, the weird kid. But it's fine to just slap a label on a kid as a bully? Isn't that the SAME THING? That is a REALLY hurtful word. The kid might not be a bully at all but never got their due process, OR, even if the kid is a bully, it's entirely possible THEY are going through something too, a divorce at home, uninvolved parents, a death in the family, depression, whatever. They may grow out of their bullying naturally or with some therapy and never do it again, but they've already labeled him little Johnny the bully and that could stick far longer than John is actually bullying. Where's the sympathy for kids who are bullies and a desire to find out what's causing it? THAT doesn't happen for no reason either.

This is something the Freakeconomics would eat up. I hope they see that study.

Shelby said...

I think everyone, at some (and at different) points in life, has played the role of bully and of victim.

Maybe not knowingly, but the entire 'bully' label is kind of arbitrary.

The human experience is a brand new thing for kids. Sometimes picking on a kid simply happens because they realize they CAN and are trying it out Like when a kid discovered swear words. Most realize soon enough they don't get much emotionally out of the experience and stop. Doesn't mean a kid is destined to be a bully forever or even for more than a few times.

&&&

I think about that too Auntie Ann. I think about the sociology and evolution of many behaviors we keep seeing over and over. Few parents teach their kids to bully and yet they do it anyway. How do they know to do it? How do some of them from nice families get SO good at it? In cavemen days there were clans and hierarchies and ranks. While arguably it's not fair to the lower ranking members, humans do seem to lust after some kind of organization that creates order, even if it's an unfair order. Communism is not natural. Pecking orders are natural, even if they seem harsh. It was to the benefit of high ranking cavemen to keep things that way so they could make decisions for the tribe. There was no logical reason to include lower ranking members or make them equal. Thus for survival, higher ranking members must sometimes bully lower ones to keep them down there. If you don't, that's how you run out of food or end up making bad decisions.

Now back to your glitter and glue.

The "Mr. or Ms. Wonderful" mask immediately comes off, and there is no level they will not stoop to in order to "punish" you. They have myriad ways of attempting this; some are covert, and some are open and obvious. The narcissist has a seemingly inexhaustible obsession for making people who cross them "pay". Once they set their sights on you, you're a permanent enemy, and their seething spite will feel as intense years down the road as it did when it first began. The length of time they can keep up the full intensity of their hatred for you and their campaign to exact revenge is absolutely dumbfounding to non-narcissistic people."

Before I spent $15 on this cookbook, which appears to be more about showing pictures of the children than about cooking, I skimmed through some of the recipes. Really? Really? A sausage and bean bake calls for 3 large cans of beans all of which are filled with sodium and a can of pre-made chili. This is cooking? Nah, it's throwing cans in a pot. The stir fry recipe calls for 1/2 CUP of soy sauce . With about 350 mgs of sodium in just a teaspoon, well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this recipe will have you clawing for water with your bp through the roof. Many of the recipes are available in the preview and with the exception of a couple, most are poorly written, have little nutritional value and just don't sound appetizing. Save your money. It looks like Ree Drummond has a new book coming out, I'd pick up that one before this.

What a coincidence for a pap to snap that picture of Jon and the school teacher. I believe Steve has been paid handsomely for more than holding Kate's purse.

&&&&

Agree! I remember something about them being in some kind of business together, also, but I can't remember what it was. I think they bonded during their time together w/TLC and became friends (I question the health and balance of that friendship tho). I also think he was sympathetic to her and fell for her helpless act. Maybe he continues to work with her out of some sense of obligation, idk, or she's just another client.

One thing there is no doubt about is that he and his company made, and continue to make, bundles of money working for TLC. SMH at how the mighty have fallen, from working with an ex-POTUS (per his site) to The Little Couple and TFW. As long as it pays the bills tho.

I also think the Wizard of Oz reference is alluding to Kate's smoke and mirrors image, after all, "How She Fooled The World" is the subtext on Roberts book.

The flying monkeys as her minions, Jodi as Glenda the Good Witch, Jon as the Straw Man, TLC as OZ, The tornado as the force of nature that swept the Gosselins up and landed them in a strange land, they journey down the yellow brick road that started joyfully and innocently, the deceptive poppies that's lured Dorothy...
If only Kate would wake up and be grateful instead of wanting to run away from her life every chance she gets.

Re: Steve "Rat Claws"- Admin went to Kate's book signing a couple years ago. At the time, PA's Rep. Murt was trying to pass a law, dubbed "Gosselin's Law", that would protect children working on TV.
Of course Kate was livid about it and put on the whole persecution complex. In reality, the law, which was passed, updated laws that further protect working children in the state of PA.
How that's a bad thing, I do not know.
Admin asked Kate if the new law will effect filming, and she got the DEATH STARE from Kate, and Steve grabbed her arm to move her away from Kate, with his "rat claws".

With 8 INDIVIDUAL tastes, personalities, interests and abilities, it is highly likely that at least one of them won't go to college. What then, TFMJG?

Love that the appearance at the Staten Island B&N is already cancelled. Wonder how many other personal appearances (other than the ones on TV, of course) will bite the dust.

I haven't a clue what (if anything) RH means by his movie clip postings. I'm just enjoying the heck out of watching the feather ruffling.

Oh dear I didn't think about the kids making appearances with her. Something could have been pretaped this week with the kids. In the past I think she was afraid she couldn't control them but if it were pretaped if they step out of line they can always redo it. They are getting older now and probably easier to bribe and control.

She never takes them along just cause she thinks they might enjoy the weekend out in NYC with Mom and the nice food and hotels, like PW occasionally does with her daughter who is into that stuff. The kids are always dumped on the nanny or Jon while she enjoys the life they gave her.

Hey at least she gave them normal food at McDonalds. That was probably the bribe, behave on T.V. and we'll actually go to McDonalds for some real food.

Exactly!

I think she forgets these kids will be 18 then, and if they don't want to go to college, they don't have to, and there's nothing she can do about it.

She really thinks she's going to control them the rest of their lives.

This kind of thing can make kids rebel and not want to go at all. College will happen naturally for kids who are suited for it, you don't need to push it down their throats.

The thing is, I get the impression (and have ever since when) that Kate expects an empty nest when all the kids leave at 18, en mass.
It seems that they are expected to go away and leave home, when the fact is, many times children stay at home for a while after turning 18, until they get established enough to be on their own.
Just a feeling, but I think the kids will have an ultimatum at 18. I think Kate will feel she's done her job, wants her freedom, wants to lose the responsibility and will kick them out.

And this is where the Mama Grizzley bonds all of us...because there is no way in hell we put our children out there like that to be mocked, ridiculed, humiliated or hated. Unlike Kate, we protect our kids...not let any get labeled a Bitch, not let them be made fun of for years by words said in toddlerhood, etc.
Katie C should not have said that or posted that pic because it implies to the world the kids are hard to handle and poorly behaved. But most of all, KATE should have protected them from that. SHE SUCKS AS A MOM.

Isn't it ironic that within a day of meeting she meets with and interviewing TFW it's announced that her show is cancelled?

I'm sure that this is kates moving and shaking surprise. One stint as a guest on a talk show does not a career make. How can Katie Couric go from a show on human trafficking to K8? Good the show has been cancelled because I won't watch any more.

Folks, Katie Couric is NOT doing any hard journalism with Kate Gosselin. This is obviously the fluffiest of fluff pieces, whereby she gets to roll around with the kids and show her vewers absolutely nothing. Oh, here's the kitchen where I created my fabulous recipes, it wasn't easy, you know I have 8 kids. Here's the chicken coop, here are my 5 freezers. Fluff and more fluff. Meh and more meh.

Let me think.

A TV crew and Katie C. are arriving at my home for the day.

I clean, tidy and prep the house?

I go to NY to get my hair bleached and styled?

I think not-a-nanny and not-a-housekeeper had a busy couple of days!

That should have read...within a day of meeting with and interviewing... Well, you knew what I meant even with my confusing sentence structure. That's what I get for tying to cut and paste on an iPad in a moving car.

So Katie can talk about it and promote it but not Kate? Where's the logic there? There is no reason on God's green earth not to promote a T.V. appearance as long as you've gotten the OK from the network. And we know they don't have an issue with it since Katie promoted it.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I live in hopes about Katie. She might ask about the lawsuit against Jon, although I doubt she'll ask a follow up question. And she just might ask how Kate answers all the criticism that this project is just using the kids.

Hold out hope!

I think the eight is more than enough hashtag is mean. I have never known Katie Couric to be mean. I don't think for one second she meant it to be mean, but then a lot of things said and done to these kids was not meant to be mean.

The problem is the kids aren't toddlers anymore. They are getting much older, are much more aware, and can see that kind of thing and get their feelings hurt. They are also going to be VERY aware this time around that they are being used. It's only a question of whether each individual kid is okay with that. Some might think it's fun, others might find it confusing, others might be torn, still others might outright hate it.

Tucker's Mom - I am hoping that most, if not all of the children, will leave Kate's house before they are 18, and choose to live with their father full time. She is so toxic, that the sooner they can live elsewhere, the better. So if she plans to kick any out who are still with her at 18, I actually think that would be a good thing (for the children).

If any of those children go to college, they will have to figure out how to fund it, just like everyone else. There will be no money left for them by the time they hit 18 - Kate will see to that.

Looking at the picture Katie Couric included in her tweet, I see the familiar held tilt pose from the wanna-be actress twin.

Pimp out those kids, Kate.

From nydailynews:

Couric isn’t fond of her show taking a gossipy turn — a move spearheaded by new executive producer Rachel Miskowiec, previously of “The Tyra Banks Show.” And insiders say Couric is sniffing around for a way out.

Well, she found it when she sniffed out TFW, the Kiss of Death queen.

Since Katie Couric taped at TFMJG's house, why is TFW in New Jersey with all the children? I suspect that since the children are on the cover of the crookbook, she is using that as an excuse to bring all the children to any event concerning that stupid book!

She knows if there is any chance to get bodies to her signings, she has to include the children. But once again, she messes it all up by not promoting where she is going to appear...with or without the children!

I wonder how many more appearances are going to be cancelled? Serves that useless piece of work right!

The Katie interview will be fluff. All Kate has to do is invoke her lawyer's advise not to talk about the law suit and it's dropped like a hot potato.
I have to say, the interview with the kids in Kate's house is going to draw eyeballs, it just is.
Just Kate alone isn't going to do it, but for many people, an hour of watching the kids again will be must-see viewing.

Thanks for the info about Katie's show. I didn't realize it was cancelled.
There's so much competition out there in daytime. Even with a name like Katie Couric, it could fail.
Betheny Frankel and Queen Latifa both with new shows, so there's always someone out there poised to knock you off your pedestal.

I call it karmic justice. Katie Couric is a mother too -- she has no excuse for not recognizing that TFW has been using her children from day 1 for fame and fortune, and she should have simply refused to do another interview with her. But she didn't -- and this feels like the appropriate karmic response.

From an article talking about the possible demise of Couric's show:

" “Katie,” which just started its second season, isn’t attracting a big audience despite efforts by network executives to make it more gossip-centric."

Yep, bring on Kate Gosselin for a little trashy gossip, and hey, let's have the kids stay home from school for a little cutesy exploitation. That will boost the ratings, not. 6 sheeple tuning in and far more people tuning out is my guess. Funny how one day that homework was soo important it had to be delivered by Iphone, and just a few days later, no one needs to go to school at all.

Sorry Admin, I think your hope of some real questions on this show is not going to happen.

I agree, especially that it's an innocent commentary probably meant to dust up the fact that Kate's got 8 kids. We get it! It's many kids.
But, come on! They're 9 & 12 now, should and probably do have good manners and keep themselves busy and know damn well how to stay out of adult's hair (Kate, that is).
So, this acting as if being around them is like herding feral cats is just so trite at this point.
They're not a pack. They're individuals who by virtue of their HOM birth, are part of a large brood that they never asked to be.
Katie's comment does go to further imbue the notion that 8 really "is" too much, when the fact is, it's 9 WHOLE YEARS LATER, and this should be rote at this point.
If Jon can do it, come on, why can't Kate?

Katie's show has not been officially cancelled. There are rumors it is going to be cancelled and that Katie will be the replacement for Barbra Walters on The View.

I read Kim Weiss's facebook post and I think she was being sarcastic with saything the author is an A lister. In the comment section, Kim posted to another commenter that she was a pleasure to work with and the word, you, was in all caps.

We don't talk about you, so why do you feel the need to talk about us? You talk about people who in your minds "trash" Kate, but you're trashing the people who post here. You're no better than the people who used to post at RWA.

Think about it.....

I'm sorry but I have to say it again -- water seeks its own level

KG invited KC to HER turf, which means "I'M in charge here". She told Katie what questions she was allowed to ask. Then there's Ms Couric, looking for a way out of her show. It was a reciprocating setup. Ah reality television. People eat this stuff like it was lush green grass, you know, the kind that sheep feast upon.

How They Fooled the World, indeed.

I've been watching a lot more PBS lately.

What about the will Kate & Jon made on the show? I guess she has a new one now. I thought that one sounded insensible, inheriting money for education or career at age 25 iirc? and one guardian for all 8. Probably that was Jodi & Kevin or Beth.

TFW is so dumb, she thinks that making her kids sound difficult to handle is supposed to make everyone fawn over what a martyr she is. Hello!!! It makes you look like a bad parent.

Whether you have one child or many, it is up to you as the parent to demonstrate positive behavior, teach them how to behave, have good manners, etc. My parents had 8 children. I believe on many days, they were happily exhausted by the end of the day, but not because we were unruly, out of control children. That was not allowed in our home. And I know it's not allowed in TFW's home - she runs that like a military prison.

I guess even Katie Couric doesn't have much control over her own show, which seems rather sad to me. So apparently she gets saddled with an old Tyra Banks producer who wants to turn her show in to the same old garbage the networks keep feeding us? The level of junk that is on TV is unprecedented.

Just the other evening, I saw a new show on one of the stations - Hollywood Game Night, hosted by Jane Lynch. I like Jane Lynch, always have. She's very funny. So I tune in. The premise is there are two teams, made up of 3 celebs and one regular person, who compete for points by answering trivia questions.

The first round is titled Crunchy Snacks. And it's 100% product placement for all sorts of chips, crackers, etc. Fritos, Sun Chips, Cheetos. First they show a picture of a bowl full of the item, someone buzzes in and guesses it correctly, then they show the bag of Doritos or whatever. Pure 100% product placement!!!

I changed the channel after that. And I felt disappointed in Lynch for participating in such a show. It was junk, just like the junk food they were promoting. And that's what passes for entertainment for the masses these days - either trashy gossip "talk shows" or shows that don't even pretend they are about anything besides selling products.

I see that too. I think this has all weighed heavily on C over these past six years. She seems like a "silent sufferer". If her little sisters and brothers have any sense of stability while they're at that home, it's come from her. I predict she'll be the first to leave to go live with Jon.
