It's Election Day!

Breaking News: PA Rep. Tom Murt is projected to be re-elected in Montgomery County

No, not that one, who cares about that one?! This one! The election for Pennsylvania's 152nd legislative district, a race that really matters. To us here, anyway.

In this corner we have the challenger, Ronald Kolla:

No, really, that's the guy running against Murt, Ronald KollaOrganist at Woodside Presbyterian Church, believes the youth can lead America (& txt rlly gud 2), has knocked on, like, more than 1,700 doors--his campaign slogan is "Make It Happen." Yeah, dude! Oh, and his Facebook status says he's "in a relationship." Aw.

And in this corner, we have the incumbent, ho-ho-ho Santa!

Oops, we mean Rep. Tom MurtLoves to visit special needs kids dressed as Kris Kringle (Santa, lay off the salads, you look positively sickly!), calls Nellie Olsen and that cute kid from Lassie his friends (Hollywood poser), served in Iraq--his campaign slogan is.....well, we couldn't find one. Appears he was too busy authoring the Jon and Kate bill and finally putting an end once and for all to child exploitation in his great state to bother with much of a campaign. Thanks, Murt.

And after long and careful thought and much roundtable debate (the pool boys even stormed off at one point), the staff at Realitytvkids has officially endorsed ...

Santa! Rep. Thomas Murt!

Unlike the nail biter the general election is sure to be, projections are that Rep. Murt is expected to take his seat once again in a landslide (in 2010 he handily beat his opponent with 68% of the votes).

Election Graph: The polling girls have calculated that Rep. Murt will win by a landslide.

But could a choir boy pull off an upset? Stay tuned and follow the results online!

The Rules: It may seem counterintuitive, but even though this is a candidate thread, please do not discuss the general elections. However, you may discuss Rep. Murt's projected re-election as it does not appear to be very contentious here. You may also use the thread for a typical general discussion thread, as usual.

This? This is the political thread?

At least that young man has taken an active role in politics. Why the hate? I think it was pretty brave of him. Sometimes young people have great ideas. So he's green.

Bias much? I think it's cruel.

OT, as usual (I'm good at that) - although I did post ON topic toward the end of the last thread (that always seems to happen, so I don't know if anyone saw it).

Admin mentioned this commercial last thread - it's my favorite ever and it always makes me cry...

(And I still wish people would check out Pit Bulls and Parolees)

I have to agree with killing dreams. I give this young man credit for being idealistic and interested enough in the political system to run. Maybe if we had more young people like him, our elected officials would end their bickering and partisanship and work together.

I love Murt and yes, I think he should win. But I hope he gives this guy an internship when it's all done.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Killing dreams? Yikes. Lol just good fun snark toward BOTH. Anyone who runs in a shoein like this knows what they are getting into. Ron probably sees it as good experience. An internship would be great. He's a young man with promise.

Admin - I'd still be interested in your first idea of letting us know what party affiliations both J & K have. If it's publicly available info and you don't want to post it just point me in the right direction and I'll go look it up myself.

I maybe in the minority that wants to see this info but I do think it is relevant and if it's publicly available don't see an issue.

Kate is not registered at all. Maybe in another county, but not in Berks.

For anyone who may have forgotten, key me remind you for the 136th time - Saint Tony earned his sainthood by passing a certain shopping kart around the ballroom floor a while back. She was so.bad, she didn't even get asked back to be one of the worst dancer ever candidates!

kate shouldn't be able to register anywhere but the county where she lives (well, actually, I should have stopped the sentence at 'anywhere', as she is too unintelligentish, uninformed, unaware, oh hell, just add 'un' to almost any word and it seems to fit her. Like uncool, unfit, unkind...see where I'm going).

Admin ~ I typically enjoy your brand of humor, but on this, please count me among those who think you've crossed the line from snark into mean-spiritedness.

Whether or not someone thinks this "dude" is right for the job isn't the issue. I don't know him -- or PA politics--but this post misrepresents the candidate's qualifications & positions.

For instance, it was a news reporter who mentioned the fact that he'd "knocked on more than 1700 doors" AT THE START OF HIS CAMPAIGN. For all you & I know, he spent every waking hour since in drumming up support.

He's an organist, yes, but his website lists other jobs and accomplishments.

Delve further into the candidate's website, and you'll note an impressive sincerity on a range of issues, including the rising costs of education, safety nets for seniors, environmental protections from tracking. etc.

It takes a lot of courage these days to run for office, not to mention time and resources. Agree or not with his positions and/or suitability for the job, but it honors no one when you paint him with such a small, cheap brush.

What's the excuse? Oh, busy mom of 8, too busy to vote? That's an election topic.

Well said-I thoroughly agree.

It was an unnecessary put down (whether intended as snark or not) of Rep. Murt's opponent.

Kate is a registered voter. Just remember her legal first name is Katie. That's all I'll say.

On another note--I live on LI in NY, and I don't know why, but on TV I not only get political ads for NY candidates, but also get them for candidates in both NJ and CT. Imagine my surprise when one of the ads was for Rabbi Shmuley, who is running for Congress in NJ. The ad had several pictures of him, and the last picture was one of him and Jon! Jon's face was slightly blurry, but if you knew who Jon Gosselin was you could tell it was him.

I find it ironic that the ad was shown while I was watching DWTS last night.

I searched using "K" not her full name, plus all the other info and got no hits for a registration.

Admin, why did you forbid this kind of snark with the general election? This post may very well end up being quite contentious. He could be someone that our regular local PA posters know? Someone's relative, friend? Kudos to such a young man putting himself out there in such a vicious endevour. They all have to start somewhere. I agree with Improbable Dreams and Killing Dreams, not necessary.

My husband and I voted early, thank goodness. I don't know why every state doesn't allow it, or change voting to a Saturday. Oh, I'm so glad it's about over. I am sick of the commercials, the talking points, etc. And the money that was spent...what a waste. I was a political science major waaaay back but these days I am so disgusted with the way politicians refuse to put themselves above their party. OK, now on to Kate...

Jon said she had no interest in the outside world, so of course I would not expect her to be registered to vote. Just as Sandy was devastating to many, all she cared about was that her hairdresser's shop was up and running. Her retweets about helping New Yorkers were disingenuous because before that her mention of Sandy was pretty sparse (it did not affect her very much, so to hell with everyone else; butI forgot, she did do a twitter journal about HERSELF in the basement. Typical narcissist.)

Anyway, look forward to a new day tomorrow, election-free, and a post on the continuing saga of Robert's book.

Kate is a Twit, so you found that she IS registered to vote? Wow. I bet she tweets she voted but remember it's opposite day in Kate's world :)

TLC stinks--Yes, according to the PA website, she is registered to vote. I doubt she'll even mention whether she voted or not--she's probably too busy masterminding how she can get to NY to get her hair done.

I've never experiences robocalls like this election. I've learned to tune out the TV when the political ads come on, but the phone ringing just chaps my ass because I have to pay attention to discern whether or not I should pick up.
I've got to the point that if I don't recognize the number, I pick up and hang up on one second so that I don't have to listen to them blather on my machine.
Yes, it made me crabby ;-)

So far, turnout looks large. I think a lot of people are passionate this election.

I love Kate's, 'I'm waaaay to busy to be on twitter today' tweet. Hello, Kate fans? See, this is Kate saying her life is way more important than yours and she really doesn't care about you. And that added +8 at the end of the tweet that doesn't make gramatical sense? Yeah, that's to show you that her life is so much more exciting than yours because SHE has eight children. They may be at their fathers, or home alone with the nanny while Kate gets her hair done, but she's too busy for you because everything she does is for those 8. Even getting her feet licked at a bar. Isn't she a great mom?

I'm excited because our state is one of those pivotal states that are predicted to make or break things, so we'll be up watching tonight when the returns come in and states are declared.

LoveMyGrandsons said...

Tucker's Mom, that's what I was doing, too. Picking up and then disconnecting the call so I didn't get a 3 minute rambling message on my answering machine. Sometimes when I got home from work there would be 4 or 5 of those robocalls!

I told the hubs we should automatically reject voting for any local politician who uses robocalls for a few reasons:

1. They don't know their constituents because do they actually tnink people want to receive 3 or 4 of these calls a day?

2. They're not intelligent because do they really think people answer the phone and then stay on it to hear the message from a robocall?

3. They are not wise with money, proving that with the spending they did on robocalls. Therefore, we couldn't possibly trust them to be wise spending our tax dollars!

Okay, through venting. I'm so glad the election is over so we won't have to get anymore of those irritating calls!

By the way, Admin, although I didn't agree with your post, you know I love ya'!

Well, I'm getting ready to go vote, and I have to say I'm still undecided at this point. I like one candidate, but don't agree with his vision of America's future. I don't like the other candidate, but agree with his vision. 80% certain I know who I'll vote for, but still might change my mind when faced with the actual question.

I read an articule last night encouraging the undecided voter to stay home and not vote. It made my blood boil. The people of this country, especially women, have fought too hard for the right for their opinion to be heard. Even though I might walk away with buyers remorse, I believe that the opportunity to make a choice is so important and no one will tell me I shouldn't vote!

Besides, I blame my indecision on the corrupt nature of politics. If people running for office just said what they actually believe, and actually stuck to their word, my decision would be made.

I applaud the young man trying to fight how politics works in this country, but I don't mind the snark. He is very green and needs some experience.

Hope everyone enjoys their right to VOTE today!!! I have a student at home today who is very excited to go to the polls and waits for the day when he can make HIS voice heard! =)

I woke up this morning still baffled by the killing dreams comment since I re-read the post and clearly the entire thing is supposed to be fun and light-hearted against BOTH candidates, not picking on one or the other or trying to kill anyone's dream in a district that has voted Republican every single year since 1968. For heaven sake Murt is standing there looking like an emaciated Santa, the whole thing is supposed to be fun. :)

Yesterday you allowed my hot topic political post where I said Romney's dentures whistle and Obama has big ears. Undisputed facts, but equally snarking on each candidate. I can be an equal opportunity snarker if I put my back into it. If they are here, then clearly they have internet access and can look up other stuff.

And pay attention Americans! Really the choice is clear between whistling dentures or another 4 years of ears that stick out! If y'all cant make the correct choice based on that info alone, we deserve whatever we get! (snark folks.)

Well, Murt isn't a Hollywood poser either and has done a lot more than author a child actor bill. As if we wouldn't endorse him after that bill! lol. More than 1700 doors was pulled directly from his own press release, whether he knocked on more is irrelevant, since it says "more than", and each has a link to their web sites where you can read their entire biographies to their fullest extent. There wouldn't be room to post them all here nor would it be the right forum. If this candidate can't take a few jokes then he isn't cut out to run for office. Goodness gracious it will get a lot worse than that if he is ever in an election that is tighter. Given the silly photo he has up of himself, I'm willing to bet this guy would get a chuckle out of any jokes and judging by his web site, I think he's a passionate guy with an exciting future ahead. One last quick comment - this morning one voter was turned away because his little boy was wearing a T-shirt with a huge name for one candidate.

The poll workers said you can't wear anything like that because no campaign material is allowed inside polling place.

The dad started to argue, a cop came up and took him by the arm and quietly but firmly escorted him outside. The polling workers said they would let him back in when the kid's shirt was turned inside out and they'd give him his place in line back too.

Sounded reasonable to me. The poll workers are serious about their jobs and enforcing the rules for everyone.

The dad was having a devil of a time trying to convince the kid to turn his shirt inside out. Cop just stood there quietly.

Interesting diversion while waiting in line.

Doesn't Milo have dogs? I'm surprised as a dog owner she wouldn't be gently guiding Kate through the pit bull controversy trying to gently get her to qualify what she said. I think she sees herself as the keeper of Kate's lantern through the storm holding it high to brighten the path to safety.

I think they use this race and aim for a big office like this instead of the PTA to get experience, which explains why the past couple of years it's been really young up and coming guys with no experience just getting their feet wet. I have a funny feeling they know exactly how formidable this district is (it has never, in its entire history, elected a Dem) and that a more experienced candidate wouldn't want to waste the money trying to mount a real intensive campaign. Rather it's an opportunity for young politicians to talk to voters, make speeches, calls, campaign, preparing for the next time they run in something more contentious. It's actually not a bad idea to go through the motions of it. At least he can say next time that he's been through a campaign before.

For instance take Robert McGuckin, who was the 33-year old attorney who ran against Murt last election. He lost by a ton of course but I think he expected that. But according to his bio on his firm's web site, now he advises candidates and elected officials on public policy matters and communication strategies. Good for him, and having been through an election himself gives him the credibility to do that kind of work. He may not have been running to win at all, but rather, understanding the district, running mostly for the experience of it, and I don't see anything wrong with that.

I sort of tuned out of the Sandy coverage in the day or two after. With Katrina, I was glued to the tv after but with Sandy, I felt overwhelmed and had to parse my exposure to it.
We've donated and continue to participate in giving efforts through church etc, but I had to take a day or two and breathe.

I think my only comment today about the election is that once again, no doubt, the G8 lost out on an educational home teaching moment; not about candidates per se, but about the process, and promise, of living in a country where your vote does count. Our dinner table was always full of such conversation, and while my husband and I often cancelled out the vote, the children did not just learn about this in school. My youngest remembers our stroller walks to the polls. The G8 live with a self-absorbed narcissistic airhead, and I doubt that there is any conversation.

Other than that, I wish everyone a calm day. At our house, there will be election coverage, comfort food and a very good pinot noir.

On both sides. And the thing is, here in Virginia, most of the ads were paid for by political action groups probably funded by rich people who don't even live here!
Something like theCommittee to Prevent Cruelty to Sunflowers says Candidate A is horrible, vote for Candidate B. Then the Society to Promote Tulips says Candidate B will pull up all tulips, vote for Candidate A.

I always went to the polling place with my mom. The machines there were complicated, a lot of switch flipping. Now I just fill in a bubble, not as fun. It was fun to watch her do it. I'm a big believer in making elections cool and exciting for kids. I also have some old pictures staying up all night in the dorms on election night once. We were young people excited about what would happen and that's great. I don't have a problem at all with the way the cable networks treat it like some kind of sports competition--whatever gets people into it and wanting to know more. Get them excited at an early age and that tends to translate to adulthood. Anyone have childhood memories of elections?

I voted by mail already but will accompany my husband to the polls today, since we have a vet appt. and will combine trips.

My election memories as a kid: My mom always volunteered to be a poll worker, so for that one day, she was gone before I left for school--before I woke up, in fact. That left Dad to get me ready, and he had zero girl's hair skills. Poor guy tried to put my waist-length hair in a ponytail one election morning and it was awful. I was about 8 years old and wouldn't have hurt Daddy's feelings for anything, so I waited until I was out of sight (walking to school) and then pulled out the rubber band and let my hair down. I got in a bit of trouble because we had P.E. that day and my hair was down. I never told Daddy about it. i told my mom many years later, long after Dad was gone. Of course, I told her it was all her fault for being a poll worker! :)

Here in the state of Washington, we no longer go to the polls to vote. It's all done via mail, although you can drop off your ballot at ballot boxes if you want.

So this past weekend, I filled out my ballot and my husband and I drove down the street to a ballot box and dropped it off. No lines! It was painless and easy and I felt good about it.

Here in Washington we're voting on the issues of charter schools, gay marriage and the legalization of marijuana!

Such fun!

I have great memories of political discussions on my dad's side of the family. My dad even ran for state rep one time.

Orange - do you have an election night comfort food? For some reason ours is a ham and homemade mac and cheese. I am not sure how that got started, but I have always made a ham for Presidential election night. I think it started back in the day when you were up till the wee hours waiting for a winner to be declared, (then all of a sudden as some point they started declaring winners before the polls were even closed). But a ham was something to just have out for sandwiches or whatever all night long.

So that is what I am making.

I challenge any TV network or local station to proclaim themselves "Political Ad FREE" next presidential cycle; and watch their ratings and good will SOAR!

I should explain my outburst (ROFLMAO) at Admin's earlier post.
I thought it was snark.
I don't think Kate steps into a booth except to get sprayed orange and the only way she'd teach her kids to vote is to make them choose between Jon or her.

I hated the way she set up Mady and Cara on Mother's for a Day, and then asked Hannah who she liked better, M&C or her. Blech. I can see her asking her kids now - who do you love more... Mommy or Daddy? She is that much of a parental alienator.

Sorry, Admin.

Pumpkin ice cream! I make mine, with vanilla icecream and mix in a can Libby's pumpkin pie mix. Yep, I think there is going to be alot of fun for lots of us tonight!

The Dewey-Carter election. I remember going into my mother's bedroom the day after the ballots were cast to ask her who had won. She was very upset and said that Carter won. She was so upset that it scared me half to death. I was 5 years old.

Who? That was the Truman-Dewey election when the country went to bed thinking Dewey won. I have a newspaper from election day, proclaiming Dewey the new President. It was the Great Truman Surprise. Truman became the 33rd President.

I just read an interesting article on the front page of our Post newspaper. As of 28 Sep the installation has prohibited the following breeds from being kept as pets on the installation: Pit Bulls (American Staffordshire Bull Terriers or English Staffordshire Bull Terriers), Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, Chows and wolf hybrids. The article says it's because "these particular types of dogs are often bred for hostile purposes and are potentially dangerous to Soldiers and their Families" and "They have a complex of being aggressive. For instance, pit bulls and wolf hybrids, are more common than golden retrievers to act aggressively. Part of the behavior is not genetic, but passed on, or let's say, it's bred into the breed".

I don't agree with it but there you go even Army installations are jumping on the bandwagon. As Kate would say, I just don't get it.

Hello from Canada! (Yes, another one!) Well, my birthday was on Sunday and occasionally, the US election lands on it, the 4th. It is a real treat for me - I do follow the rather dramatic US political goings-on from here.

I can't comment on who I like - I don't vote there so who really cares, LOL. But I try to remind myself that both men are in this for good reasons. I often think of Hillary Clinton, in 2008, when she was asked late in the primaries, why she is running. She was clearly tired and worn, but managed to say, holding back tears, that it was her passion, that everyday she woke up with public service on her mind. A really nice moment.

Nobody runs for president/prime minister for the money, their health or the good of their marriage. They do it for their country. They do it because they really believe they can make a difference.

Our politics are very different here, and sometimes, not as interesting, but just as genuine.

Good luck to everyone in the US. Stay safe while voting, be grateful you have that opportunity, and remember that you are all doing something for your country.

I'll be watching CNN with great interest!

Another case of foot in mouth disease. It was just pure vitriol that made Kate use her sheeple and hide behind their tweets (by retweeting) to get her passive aggressive message across.
I know her sheeple thought they got a real juicy morsel when Liz tweeted those pics, but their ire never caught any support and they have been buried by an avalanche of support for pit bulls and those who love them and want to see the public's opinion turn.
There are a lot of real stars out there who truly love animals, own them and support their causes. Kate is spitting into the wind if she thinks that she'll get support.
And this doesn't even begin to touch the parental alienation aspect.

It seems faintly unpatriotic not to go to the polls today (I voted early this year).

Something non-political, but very blog relevant. There's a new book out called "Diary of a Stage Mother's Daughter" by Melissa Francis. The's the adorable little girl who played Cassandra, the child adopted by the Ingalls family on "Little House On the Prairie". Just from the book blurb, her mother sounds scarily like KK.

Read the article about Tia and the Pitbulls. KT should hire Liz as her PR person. Those two innocent photos of the kids getting much needed love from the dog have taken on a life of their own and still going strong. KT has gotten more press out of that than anything else she has tried to get going on her own. In her mind bad press is still press and it is all good. I would love for the dog whisperer to weigh in. I His dog, Daddy, is also a dog whisperer. I miss that show - although the cat man is growing on me it is just not the same. Might I add that Liz has a really pretty name. I don't know if Janetta is her middle name or last name but I like it.

Speaking of stage moms (and 'xcuse me if this has been mentioned), Teri Shields died. The battles between Terri and Brooke were epic and it's beyond amazing that Brooke seems to be so normal and well-adjusted.
One of Kathy Griffin's funniest routines is about her experience of Teri at Brooke's wedding. Griffin manages to turn a very sad tale of chronic alcoholism and narcissism (Teri's) into a touching story about how a daughter could love a mother so much, despite so many years of struggle.
I hope Kate's kids are so kind to her. For their sakes more than anything.
