By the way real military members and families, in my opinion, do not go around with holier than thou attitude telling people how to correctly be patriotic.

In my experience, real military at most express quiet disapproval, and don't make a fuss and call even more attention to it when they feel offense. For instance, if a soldier saw a piece of gum defacing a statue of a president, he would get out his handkerchief and water bottle and quietly clean it off and go on with his day. Instead of stomping his foot shouting and making a big ole fuss.

Nice try.

I'm coming in at the end of the postings and don't fully know what the issues is about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

I looked to see that Dmasy has what looks like an avatar for the Tomb with some soldiers guarding it.

My opinion is this: my father is buried at Arlington National Cemetary, an Air Force pilot who flew in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

I am proud to see Dmasy use the avatar as it honors our fallen men and women. Knowing Dmasy the way I do from this blog, there is NO WAY she is showing that in a disrespectul manner. I am sure she uses it to honor our brave soldiers who died in service to our country.

I have to respectfully disagree that the picture is in bad taste. In fact, it gives me a good feeling everytime I see it, as I think fond thoughts about my dad and his fellow military heroes.

For the poster who feels this site is not patriotic, I disagree with the greatest respect to you and your family. I must conclude that you haven't been here long. We have a long history of supporting our military in words and deeds. In fact, some of the posters are active duty military, many are military wives, and many have children serving currently.

The regular posters here are very supportive of our men and women in uniform.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I get it now, anyone who has ever made a joke or snarked in their life is not allowed to also pay quiet respect to the military and share their patriotism when they find really great things worth sharing, like the film Taking Chance, or that photo of the soldiers guarding in the pouring rain. I don't think so. The posters here have sought to bring MORE awareness to the military. As I recall Butterfly herself is on active duty and always shares interesting things about how the military works. We read with interest.

For some reason people think humor should not be allowed to co-exist side by side with anything else. I am not one of those and since it's my call to make, both humor and quiet and dignified respect and reverence for the military are most certainly all allowed here.

Anonymous said...

In fact,

Dmasy, I would be honored if you'd keep the avatar up for a while. It really does bring a sense of pride when I see it. My daddy served honorably and I will be an Aging Air Force Brat until I die.

For me, photos of Arlington and of the Tomb are extremely moving. Makes me miss my daddy all over again and it's been 12 years since he died.

My father-in-law is also buried at a National Cemetery in Illinois. The cemetery is such a awesome place to visit. So eerily quiet and somber. One feels so humble knowing that so many soldiers died for our freedoms.

Dmasy, you didn't do anything wrong. I thank you for showing the picture as your avatar.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Oh hey everyone I don't know if you are up to it but we were going to do a Halloween party tomorrow, we talked about it a few weeks ago. The idea was to all post as anonymous or at least post anonymous for some part of the day and describe our costumes. Only requirement is they be some kind of connection to the blog be it Kate or something else. For instance Rumspringa costumes are welcome, as well as the traditional cupcakes and gum.

I know with the hurricane and everything maybe folks aren't up to it, but it might be something that can take people's minds off this sad and frankly scary week, for a moment anyway.

After I saw Dmasy's avatar I went over to Youtube and watched some videos of the ceremonies at Arlington. They were very moving.

And Kate's probably going all kittywampus without her twitter too. Hope she's not waking up the kids and beating them again.

Aaayeee! A party, a party!

What will I wear? Oh, the dilemma.... this will take some pondering.

In the mean while - OT OT OT OT OT OT OT OT

The other day when I asked about a 'floating apparition in my thawed chicken broth', it turns out everything was fine and dandy. Thawing chicken broth apparently does that... who knew?

So my chicken noodle soup was delish, and I went on to make 10 quarts of chicken and veggie broth. We've been floating in good soups for the past two weeks.

We've finally made the complete transition to whole food/pure food/traditional cooking. Nothing boxed or processed here anymore. Takes more time, but healthy for us.

In fact, I just made some sesame brittle. Waiting for it to cool. Used some white sugar as I wanted to use up what we have. Can't afford to throw anything out. Soon we won't have anything 'white' in house. We have switched to gluten free as well. Took me 9 months to break my pita habit.

Read the book "WheatBelly" and took some of what he said to heart.

OK, I'm rambling here, but those of you who know me know I'm an insomniac some nights... forgive my wide-eyed blather? :-)

The photo of the guards at the tomb of the unknown soldier was NOT taken during hurricane Sandy. It was taken back in September.

I dont have an opinion either way about if it is appropriate having it as an avatar.

I did want to add my 2c worths in regards to the rumour morphing into fact issue.

Kate thrives on being the centre of attention. She is down to about 6 fans who show to the world daily they are not stable people. To put it mildly they are loony.

So, the only other people keeping her relevant and her name out there are the haters. The ones who keep spending hours speculating and creating scenarios in their heads. Creating conversations that never happened to explain why she was fired from CC, for saying yes to a show you don't even know if she is a part of.

That story then makes its way to twitter, a sheep picks it up, tweets it to kate, asks her if she is doing Wife swap. Kate tweets back no, but love to. Some network executive sees the tweet and starts thinking, great idea lets get her on and hey presto, Kate has a new show all thanks to the haters. How very ironic.

I agree that to some degree speculation and putting two and two together is fun, but there needs to be some sort of way to make it very clear that as the comment count goes up into the hundreds that people are still commenting on speculation. This often gets lost in the large number of comments.

Admin, you yourself are guilty of taking a conversation you made up in your head and turning it into a fact a few pages further along. Go back and re-read your comments about why kate was fired from CC, you will see that your tone changes from I wonder if this is what happened to This is why and what happened. etc.

This is not a snark on anyone, just my opinion and observations about the comment flow and the repercussions of having such a large comment thread.

When asked about chris jenner wanting to do a test run talk show Fox issued the following statement: "There is a line out the door of people who want to do a test on the Fox television stations.".

Any ideas on how I can use sesame non-brittle? It may end up in the circular file.

So,kate is asking Kris or Chris Jenner for help to pimp out her kids? Asking for her expertise ? I think it's time to flood kris with Roberts book, showing how kate is A child abuser and an animal abuser.I really don't think that even kris would touch that with a 10 foot pole.

Kate's abuse needs to be shown to anyone and everyone who gives her a glance.
Hey Kris...Read Roberts book b4 you even think about taking kate on.He took a lie detecter test and passed.kate IS a Child abuser and a Animal abuser.
Sorry, but I dont follow anything kardashing...I hope you take some time to see just how evil this woman is.
If you endorse kate...you are endorsing child abuse! Kris...did you beat your kids when they didn't want to sleep?Did you leave them in their cribs for 4-5 hours a day? When they got out did you grab them by the hair, spank them and toss them back into their cribs?Wondering if you REALLY hurt them THIS time?
Please think about this...kate is NOT a good investment!

But I will agree with...Taking Chance. It is a MUST see. Kevin Bacon played this role with so much honor.I really had no idea how much effort was put into seeing the ones who fought for our freedom,to be brought home. They deserve it.This movie made me cry.
This is what every man and woman deserves. They gave their life to protect what they held dear.To fight for the freedom, that they thought every American deserves.
This movie should be shown in every High-school..

When Chance was being driven home and the cars started to pass the hearse ..they turned on their lights and honked the horn...it was a small gesture...but it was heard around the world...

Again..I will agree...Taking Chance is a MUST see movie!

SuperfunSandy- Does this narcissicist ever follow the news? Unbelievable.

Flipping channels this morning, and the Kate Plus 8 Halloween Episode is on- the one where Shoka returned, Kate and kids went to the pumpkin patch, corn maze, shopped for thousands of dollars of Halloween decorations, costumes, etc... all paid for by TLC. She waited until the last minute to shop so TLC would pay for everything. She also boutght hundreds of dollars worth of items for Shoka, all of TLC's dime. She is such a selish, greedy piece of work.

TLC decorated her entire basement, yet now she can't be bothered to do a thing for Halloween. Other than have the kids dig in the basement for costumes at the last possible moment. What a phony.

My prayers go out to all who suffered loss or damage in the storm. Our office is closed for the week, due to power outages and water damage, which is unprecedented.

First, posting as 'anonymous' per Halloween party protocol. (I am also a contract honorer-lol)

Second, about the avatar of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I am PROUD to see it when it pops up. The avatars signifying anything Kate-related has been a relatively new thing, so perhaps the lone dissenter doesn't know that.
I like so many others have had generations of men (no women yet in my family) in the military. One of my family is serving now, matter of fact..
Freedom means so much to so many...including the G kids, who should be free from being forced to work since before birth.
Through all this craziness of a 'mother' who exploits her kids, it is wonderful to see a reminder of something honorable and true, and in this case it is the avatar of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. And if the dissenter had read back in the posts long enough, she or he would have known why it was selected (we were talking about the movie Taking Chance and someone posted a link showing that the young men protect the tomb through whatever weather conditions...hurricane or no hurricane, 365 days a yr, 24 hrs a day.

Please pardon a small board on board talk, but I wanted to say that if you haven't read Werny Gal's (smalltowngosselins.com) account of that corn maze visit, it's a must read.
Everything was phony, from the visit, which Kate implied was quite long (it was 20 minutes-they came, they filmed, they left), to the decorated basement which Kate did none of.
Also, you notice that there are X marks on the floor of the basement to tell the kids where to stand, but you know, they're just in and out of the frame.

Hi, I think it is way off base to think Kate would be involved with the Celebrity Wife Swap show. The show is built around both partners and their reactions with other couples. I think she is most likely a candidate for Trump's new dating show, "The Ultimate Merger". Even though it is as based in Las Vegas, they do shoot in other cities. Do a Google on it, it is exactly like the bachelorette only with D and Z list people. Omarosa is the first one to do the show. It really stinks, LOL

Well, we just got power back after 2 days and 2 nights (Boston burbs- not too many lost it-12% here, but we were 'lucky'...not!) After many candles and batteries we are glad to be safe and warm. We do have flooding in our basement- sump pump stopped after the kick-in battery went...and our neighbor's 70 ft tree fell into our house, fence broken and yard a mess- back door barricaded by branches ( to the dog's dismay!) and we can''t touch anything till insurance takes photos for the claim. Could have been much worse- if that tree hit anyone or the dog, likely fatality. A few broken roof tiles and window damage, but not too bad. We'll see how the basement is- still raining here and water seeping in.

Catch up later- wet vacing today!! Hope everyone else if is ok..haven't read back but if power lost, we don't know..read Kate did not get hit badly... glad for the kids.

We have trick-or-treating two nights in our small village. The kids love it. We select to pass out candy only on Halloween, but many children who are unattended by adults manage to come to our door even though the porch light is not on. We'll light up our steps and porch today and hope that all the little ones stay safe.

Caught a bit of the Duggar family marathon last night and they ended their season with plans to go on a "trip of a lifetime" to China and Japan. Can you imagine how envious Kate must be? Big difference in this family appears to be how the parents treat eachother and how they treat others period. The Gosselins could have taken lessons. The Duggars apparently are what they preach. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but they are certainly much nicer than the Gosselin bunch ever were.

Also, read on ROL that Sabrina is eliminated on DWTS. She was getting 30's in scoring and was such a great dancer. Disappointing to think this show might just be rigged. Messages left were very negative towards the show. Too many untalented dancers are staying while really good dancers go home. It doesn't make any sense. Crazy, really. Reminded of Kate's turn on DWTS. Lasted far too long to be genuine.

I am sorry this response is a bit late. I missed the posts last night.

Our sweet little French Franky requested that I show her the photo of the guards at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier (as my avatar) after I made a reference to them in a post. I willingly complied.

I also posted a link to the article that states the photo was taken in September, but still represents the guards in any inclement weather. I recommended that Franky find some YouTube clips for the actual changing of the guard.

I, as well as several other posters, mentioned admiration, dedication, respect, precision, and tears when speaking of the guards. I thought several patriotic and precious stories were shared.

I meant all of my contributions to these posts with the GREATEST respect to any branch of the military.

In a very short time frame the movie, "Taking Chance", was mentioned again as an excellent portrayal of military devotion.

I apologize to anyone who might have been upset by this exchange and the beautiful photo of the Guards in the rain. Please, anyone here with loved ones in the military, know that I am grateful for their service to us. Butterfly, thank you, too.

I totally disagree that humor is inappropriate during a crisis. Kate wasn't being "humorous" or making a joke, she was calling something that has caused 108 deaths "fun."

If Kate wanted to tell knock knock jokes or share funny things the kids were up to on her twitter to pass the time, that wouldn't be a problem. One has nothing to do with the other. You're allowed to laugh and make jokes while waiting around for a storm to blow over. But to invoke the hurricane in a hashtag and call the storm itself fun was inappropriate at best.

By the way, The Onion's September 11th edition published just a few days after the tragedy was Pulitzer Prize worthy and was discussed as such, and they cracked a lot of jokes. But it was done in a tasteful manner and helped a lot of people relax and realize it's okay to smile again.

Dmasy~

I thought it was very thoughtful of you to post the avatar of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It was in the context of some comments written here praising the soldiers who continued to stand guard despite the hurricane. I can't even imagine why anyone could/would have seen it in a negative light. Just because a blog includes some snarking....does that mean nothing serious and respectful can ever be said or discussed? It isn't like this blog is Mad Magazine or anything like that. It''s a blog about a serious topic....that does include some justified relevant snarking.....as is normally seen in life.....but generally, a highly-respected and intelligent blog.
Please don't feel like you did anything wrong. I think it was very nice of you, actually.
--------------------------
And I think brou-ha-ha over the speculation here is rather misplaced. Kate has herself more than willingly offered herself up for public criticism, speculation, etc......and then feeds the flame by throwing all sorts of hints out there about what she was doing during the week in question.
The one person who could put a stop to all this IS Kate herself.....and she chooses not to.

When a person intentionally puts themselves out there for public consumption, they willingly open themselves to critique and speculation. It goes with the territory. The whole sheeple perspective that she's just a mom of 8 so she should not be criticized and should be left alone is just ridiculous. Nobody is holding a gun to her head. She could have quietly retired to private life quite some time ago.....and she chose not to. The only one to blame is her.....she wouldn't have to endure any of this if she chose not to. Plenty of celebrities have retired quietly to private life and totally fallen off the radar.

It's one thing to defend someone put in an untenable situation he/she can't escape from.....but that is not the case here. She could put a stop to all of it....but won't. And the thing is......as long as she chooses to put herself out there....she'll still be out there. It would be different if she had chosen to retire quietly to private life and we were still writing about her....but that's not the case. I don't think that continued blogging about her matters one way or the other....as long as she chooses to keep herself out there. I don't think that our blogging about her is going to keep her any more or any less relevant...or any more or any less successful.

As long as she wants to keep herself out there....she will be out there in one way or another....whether we blog or not. And whether she's successful or not will be entirely up to her. She is the one who ultimately has to put in the work and effort if she wants to be successful.....and if she chooses not to....that's completely on her.

She has the power to control all these things....not us.

Since there will be a new thread coming later...I just wanted to mention a few of the really touching stories related to this devastating storm. One is about a hospital in lower Manhattan, in a flooded area, that had to be evacuated due to total loss of power. I can't remember the exact details but they ran into generator problems that could not be fixed quickly and time was of the essence, as it involved medically compromised babies and preemies.

And the ambulances had to drive into heavily flooded streets and the nurses and doctors had to carry these babies....most with oxygen tanks....down multiple flights of steps...in the dark....with water on the steps....to get them to the waiting ambulances. It was very touching to watch the video they caught.

The other was the story about all the electrical line-men who came from all over the country, even from California, to help to restore the power. Many of them left their families ahead of time, before the storm even hit....and stayed in staging areas....until they could safely get to work trying to restore the power. And they continue to come from all over....like someone mentioned here, seeing them on I-95. This whole effort also involves employees of many tree-removal companies and a whole host of other helpers streaming in from all over the country to help.

And I again have to say how impressed I've been with Gov. Christie of NJ. There's a guy who puts his JOB ahead of politics....if I've ever seen one. I didn't even think I liked him....but now I wish he was OUR governor. What a great job. Also a great job from Mayor Nutter of Philly and Mayor Bloomberg of NYC. Bloomberg got slammed on Saturday for minimizing what he thought the effects might be.....but since then, he's been doing a fantastic job, I think.

And finally...big kudos to Delmarva Power here....great job!

Damsy, Thank you for post about the military and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This Saturday I'm flying from the west coast to DC to attend a conference and am staying a few extra days. My first stop is The Wall where I will lay some very personal items to a fallen Marine (my cousin) for his brother who cannot make the trip. My second stop is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I have been the Tomb before and each time I am moved by the devotion of the soldiers and reverence of the place. I expect the visit will have the same emotional impact.

The military and their families give so much to defend us. And I am so grateful.

I think the fans fear deep down whatever she is up to, she is up to no good. Some of them may be taking steps to quietly distance themselves and eventually make their escape.

I really think most of her fans have their limits. They can't really spout platitudes about admiring her as a mother and woman if it turns out she is doing some skanky project.

She is an affront to humanity. Not because she is merely stupid, but
because she smugly mocks us all for not being as stupid as she is. 75

I think this applies to her sheeple as well Since some here don't want us to insult rocks, can we compare kk and her flock with protozoa? Single celled organisms, some of which are toxic.

Today TLC aired an old Kate plus 8 episode - Gosselins, Goblins & Ghouls, Episode 11, Original Air Date 9-27-10. To refresh your memory there is a scene where the kids are playing on a large stack of hay bales and Kate takes Collin aside and says the following "When things make us angry we need to deal appropriately with it.” Later she is in the interview chair and explains that Collin is dealing with post divorce anger.

Then I think back to this excerpt from Robert Hoffman's book:

But now, read how Kate Gosselin describes, in her own words from her personal journal, how she raises her children, and decide for yourself if you think the former staffer was lying or telling the truth. You decide if Kate was hiding anything from you as you were tuning in to watch her wholesome ‘reality’ show. And you decide if this is an age-appropriate way of disciplining children. The sextuplets were two years old and in diapers at the time of these incidents, recorded by Kate in her journal. You can read the complete journal entries in the ‘Mommy’s Journal’ chapter. “Collin decided to pour the beans all over the floor while I was inside peeling potatoes, so the girls told me and I sent all the offenders inside. Well Collin didn’t like that I sent him in and when I was out in the garage, I heard three large bangs… I went inside and three highchairs were on the floor literally. I was instantly so SO angry, that I grabbed him and spanked him as hard as I could and thought I may seriously injure him so I sent him to his crib…. And whipped him into it very hard! I for the first time thought I may really lose it and am glad that I just let him in his crib til Jon came home! I have never felt that I may really seriously injure a child but today was that day! I don’t know what it is about Collin! He is usually kind and caring and nice and tender but when his temper flairs…. Watch out! I don’t like that he doesn’t know how to handle his frustration and anger! I didn’t even get a chance to have him apologize to me because I had to drop everything and take Alexis to the doctor!”

“… and FIVE minutes later they were into the m &ms (potty training rewards) with Collin and I really REALLY lost it! I pulled Collin up by the hair and I spanked them so hard!!!

Hoffman, Robert (2012-09-27). KATE GOSSELIN: HOW SHE FOOLED THE WORLD (Kindle Locations 7496-7512, 7512-7513, 7522-7524). Kindle Edition.

___

Christie is positioning himself.

He knows the tea party has taken the Republicans so far to the right that Romney has had to flip flop all over the place on just about every issue to save face, which isn't working well (does anyone really know what he will actually do if elected?)

He is distancing himself from Romney (who will most likely lose this election, and before Romney supporters throw tomatoes at me, check the political BETTING sites, which only want to make money--they ALL predict an Obama win).

By Christie aligning with Obama, he positions himself as more of a moderate who could in all likelihood get Democrat votes.

Christie knows exactly what he is doing. He is setting himself up for 2016, most likely a post-Obama administration run with a now unknown democrat challenger

That said, I also believe he is doing a great job re Hurricane Sandy.

PS. My sis lives in NJ. Her take is he is a strong leader, but his policies are all about Republican ideology. So if you're a Democrat, you proceed with caution re Christie.

Hello everyone!
I am new here, that is, I have not posted before, but I do read and have read for a while. I am here for the children, as are most. I happen to be a pediatric nurse practitioner, and as such have devoted my professional life to the health and well being of children. So as you can imagine, Kate's behavior, which I suspected from day 1, saddens me in a very big way. I am happy to say I was fortunate enough to have been of the few that was able to purchase Robert's book. I was not shocked at what I read, which is so very sad and pathetic. My very low expectations of her behavior were confirmed, and probably worse than I ever could have imagined. One thing that sticks out for me is that I believe TLC purchased all or in part her current home. When you read the book, there are emails from her that specifically show her demanding TLC find them a new place to live. Along with her, wish list/requirements in a new home. Despicable.
Recently, I rewatched a Kate plus 8, a behind the scenes of Kate's world, to see the spin doctoring done by TLC at that time. One thing I picked up. We had to watch Kate cook a meal and brag to the camera her extensive meal prep, defrost and prepare schedule during DWTS. I watched her dump a container of mushrooms into a colander and run them under water. Sara Snow told her how to clean a mushroom, so no cook Kate should at least know that, yet she ruined them because every speck of dirt must be off. Also, in the RV episode, she insisted Jaime cut the lettuce and not tear it. So turn it brown and taste bad. She makes salad all the time. It's all she eats. Simple to prepare. Her salads would be brown, wilted, waterlogged and just gross. I know this is out of left field, but, when a suspicion is confirmed via TLC when they were actually filming that stuff specifically to make kate seem the great cook, goes to show how really and truly stupid they are and think we are. Needed to vent.

Anyway, I love your blog and have also learned some stuff I never knew. Again, I am a huge child advocate and work with children professionally. I also have a medical background and am well aware of the long and hard road these children will probably face as they grow into older children and young adults because of the behaviors she has pulled.

I live in Connecticut, 1 hour north of NYC, I was lucky with "Sandy", never lost power. My parents did, they live in this area. My aunt in northern new jersey had a tree fall through their upstairs family room. Lucky there bedroom is on first floor. Lots of tragedy and devastation. She thinks it was a "fun" time. She makes me physically ill. Nice to meet everone!

#SuperFunSandy was in bad taste and I'm not going to apologize for that. Complaining about how it wasn't so bad and the kids should have gone to school was completely blind to what really happened all around her in this storm, including the death of a CHILD her children's ages in PA.

Heather, not buying that. Christie has always been like that, for the past 10 years, since day one. He is who he is. He hasn't changed anything.

If who he is helps to position him for 2016, I say great, I'd take him any day over my other options. That's sort of what you have to do anyway to get elected, that's how it works. Sincere or not, it's necessary or you won't win.

Not to distract from the horror and devastation of Hurricane Sandy but I read a post that implies Kate maybe turned herself and the kids over to a former Playboy Playmate and TV reality star to get " Stah" exposure with Kate getting a free pass to the Playboy Mansion and Hugh Hefner who got former Playmate Kendra Wilson her Reality TV Gig.
I am wondering if Robert is talking about ThaT Kendra Wilson, The former stripper, Playboy model and reality TV star who married Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburg Steelers player Hank Baskett.
Philly and Pittsburg are in Kates neck of the woods and perhaps someone introduced Kendra to Kate at one of those " benefits" Kate attended.

Welcome. Great first post.
Kate's cooking skills are serviceable at best. We know from way back, from Aunt Jodi's sister's blog, that Kate's cooking would be a story arc (repeated story arc) to put her in the light of a great cook. This was to pave the way for her cookbook, "Love is in the Mix" which never saw the light of day because Zondervan dumped it. I'm not sure if it was because the marriage fell apart and divorce ugliness ensued, which derailed their brand, or if it was because Kate's recipes were far from original and maybe some of them would have brought trouble to the publishing company for copyright issues.
Or, it could be because Kate thinks real cooks don't need a recipe, so that and her mediocre comment pretty much insulted us all.

As I stopped watching J&K+8 when Jon said he didn't want to film anymore, and I didn't watch any K+8 until the final RV episode, I thought I would watch this while I ran on the treadmill. Because I read Admin. recap, the comments and the post Werny Gal did about the corn maze, I watched it from a completely different perspective than I would have had I watched it during it's original air date. I did like how all the kids eventually took off on Kate in the corn maze and left her talking to herself. Also did you notice Kate asked the kids during the hay ride if they remembered being there when the tups were about 2 1/2 years old as that was the very first episode of their show. One of the tups yelled, "we have the episode." Yeah, they remember. I also liked that Kate went as herself trick or treating.

Saw on the news that the number of houses that burned to the ground in Queens during Sandy was 111. As a previous poster said, the homeowners were standing in 4' of water watching. Sad. And Kate thought it was fun Sandy.

Sarcasm can be biting and cruel and it is definitely ill-advised about a catastrophe like Sandy.
I remember a few years ago, actor, comedian and 10 year spokesperson for Alfac insurance got canned after he tweeted jokes about the Japanese tsunami.
There's a time and a place for joking and sarcasm and the internet is a minefield when it comes to not being able to infer tone.
I think what it comes down to is that having seen Kate on tv for many years, we can infer her tone, which seems to be one of indifference. How do i come to this conclusion? Watching her have many laughs at others' expense.
And the sad thing is to this day, she probably has not noticed that there is no one laughing with her.
Look, should we let this go at this point? Yes, imo. But I think it goes a long, long way to show some introspection when you make a crude, offensive (to some) remark. Something along the lines of "I apologize if I've offended anyone and picked the wrong time to make a light-hearted, sarcastic remark."
It takes someone bigger than Kate to do it.

OK...just got back from getting more candy. :D Now I just have to keep my hands out of the big candy bowl here until the little trick-or-treaters get here.

First....whatever jokes/snarking we were making here...NONE of it has been about the storm, right? There's a difference between making a joke/snark ABOUT a devastating event......and making one DURING it (but not about it) while trying to get through it. I cannot recall anyone here making any sort of joke about the storm or about anything directly related to it.

Re: Christie....I am a die-hard Democrat but am always willing to give credit where credit is due....and this guy has just been doing an awesome job handling this crisis....and has been doing so since the first day they began to report about it....and I've just been very impressed with how he's handled it.

I consider everything to be a learning experience. It's so much easier to learn when things are actively happening and you are actually living it. I've learned so much about hurricanes this week.....and think I've also learned a bit about how, if you're a politician, you should handle a crisis.

I didn't realize Gov. Christie was looking at a possible presidential run in the future. Now that I know, I am going to put time in learning about him. He sure impresses me as a guy who could get things done. Yes, I am very interested in his ideology...especially regarding certain issues that may be more important to me. In the end....you weigh one against the other...depending on the things that are the most important to you.

I am a Democrat but when it comes right down to it, I evaluate each candidate individually. I honestly didn't know much about Christie...just that he was governor of a neighboring state...but in this crisis...I have to say that he was very impressive....and I learned a lot from watching him....and am now interested in learning more about him. He has certain qualities that make him look (at least to me) like a guy who could definitely take care of things and get things done. Now I want to learn about his platforms, ideology, etc.

I'll say this.....Christie would make for one hell of an interesting presidency....of that, I feel pretty confident.

Complaining about how it wasn't so bad and the kids should have gone to school was completely blind to what really happened all around her in this storm, including the death of a CHILD her children's ages in PA.

-------------------

Kate's problem is that Kate only sees things in her little world. She has never been able to look at the entire picture. She thinks they should have had school because nothing catastrophic happened on her 22 acres of property. She doesn't know about the flooded roads in the county where her kids go to school, or the power outages, or the people who were evacuated and were just allowed to return to their homes this morning, or the power lines that still are down here.

Last night our kids watched the NBC Nightly News special on the storm with Brian Williams. I wanted the kids to see exactly how powerful the storm was and how fortunate we were in this area. I think that their eyes were really opened to what the people of New Jersey and New York are going through, especially since they know the shore and New York City so well. This is not to scare the kids, but to make them aware that it could have been so much worse here, to be thankful that we were spared and to pray for those victims of the storm who lost everything.

I wonder if Kate's kids watched the coverage of the storm, even if only fifteen minutes of it, or if they were sitting with popcorn watching old Kate Plus Eight episodes. They are not too young to understand that although they are secure in their world and in their surroundings, other people have been devastated by this storm. Did Kate open up her wallet and donate to the Red Cross? We did.

There is no dishonor in posting a picture relating to our military men or women, if done respectfully. If a person were posting a photograph that they had photoshopped, perhaps adding disrepectful language or commentary - that would be different. But simply posting a picture, as your choice of avatar, is not disrespectful in any way. I try to avoid political discussion at all cost, but I just want to present a word of caution to those outside NJ looking in.

Governor Christie is at his absolute best in emergency situations. He takes a no-nonsense, common sense approach that is necessary in times that require a strong voice and steadying hand. He has done a tremendous job in leading our state these past few days.

Having said that, people need to be very careful not to judge someone's readiness or abilities to assume our highest office based on the handling of one high-profile emergency situation.

Governor Christie is known for being extremely crass, arrogant, cynical, demeaning, combative, insensitive and bullying. He has a habit of picking fights with people who are not in lock-step agreement with him. He got himself in trouble when he made a flip and offensive comment comparing the NJ Gay Marriage Referendum to the Civil Rights movement.

He has been no friend to teachers. He went to war with the NJEA (teacher's union), and many believe he misrespresented his position on their pensions, benefits and tenure. His views on gun-control and women's rights may not be in line with your views.

The jobless rate here decreased from 9.9% to 9.8% in September, but that is still far above the national average of 7.8%.

It will be interesting to see if Governor Christie runs in the next presidential election. If so, everyone will be able to research and judge his positions and policy stances then.

One thing I do know is that I wish he had been in charge when Hurricane Katrina hit.

Another thing to add to your great points is that this is a great example of why Kate would have problems being a talk show host....and even has problems being a guest on a talk show/interview show. You MUST be interested and informed about the rest of the world and you MUST care about other people (or at least act like you do) in order to succeed in this arena.

Let's just say for the moment that at the very worst, the hashtag (the FUN-Sandy bit) was a bit of an error in judgement. A bit of a joke that fell flat....that she'd not meant for it to be taken that way (and honestly, I don't think she meant to overtly offend anyone).

First of all, Kate didn't even KNOW that there was a hurricane coming. She'd had no clue until one of her fans told her on twitter. She'd still had no clue at the point where anyone and everyone with access to the internet and/or a TV already knew about it.

And even when she was told....she didn't seem all that concerned. And it's not like she just moved to the US from....Nepal or somewhere. All of us who live on the east coast know how horrifically devastating and damaging these events can be. There's a long history in PA of massive flooding events. I still remember the Johnstown flood.

Normally, when this is happening....people who live in this area run to their TV's and to the weather channel....just to find out what's going on. And this time, everyone who did that....soon learned how huge this hurricane was, that it was headed right for us....and that all the models were now agreeing on the approximate track and location of landfall.

But even after she learned about it.....she remained clueless about the severity of it....about the risks and warnings. She was asking her fans to let her know what was going on. I would doubt she listened to any of the press conferences held by her state politicians.

This is classic Kate. She just doesn't really know or care to know what's going on in the rest of the world......and that, at the bare minimum, is something she'd need to have in order to be a talk show host.

It's likely that Kate said something that was more "unthinking" than "thoughtless". And I say that because she is SO out-of-touch with what's going on in the rest of the world and with what the rest of the world is doing....that it probably didn't even occur to her what could happen to everyone else. She is SO completely self-involved....that she ONLY saw this storm in terms of how it might affect/inconvenience her.

So in her tiny little frame-of-reference...it was only directed at herself....because in her world, she is the only inhabitant. She was (and is) so unconcerned with the rest of the world that it probably never even remotely occurred to her that it might seem offensive, thoughtless and/or uncaring.

Which is fine......except she's on twitter....and there are people watching her and blogging about her. SO...she really SHOULD be careful of how people might take things she says.............just like all the rest of us do when we are at, say, a Thanksgiving dinner with multiple family members right there at the table with us.....but she can't do that.

She has no filter that tells her that something she says could be hurtful to everyone else....because in her mind...what might be happening to everyone else out in the rest of the world is pretty much irrelevant. She can only mimic the alien behavior of others who seem concerned....but there was nobody there for her to mimic so she just winged it.

I don't think we can get rid of them. But, we can always be a bit smarter than they are.

Yes, that's my sister's take. Good leader, but Republican through and through, regarding gays, abortion, women, education, etc.

You were a bit more straightforward than I was, LOL.

We did.
* * * *

When I was growing up, my parents (especially my mother) were pretty protective of us children when it came to disasters or tragedies in the family. They meant well, but I felt ultimately my mom protected us too much and should have told us of events that were happening as we grew up.

My son was only 3 years old when 9/11 occurred. At that age, he was definitely too young to be told about the attack, the many deaths, and so forth. So I turned off the news until after he was asleep at night.

But when Hurricane Katrina hit, he was about 7. I wanted him to be aware of what was happening, to know that people were suffering and stranded and needed help. I did limit the amount of time I had the news on, but we talked about what was happening, why it was such a catastrophe, what we could do to help, etc. We discussed finding a way to send money and shift some budget items around.

Certainly he was well aware of Hurricane Sandy, of my concern for his aunt and cousin who live in the path of the storm, and general concern for all the people who have been affected by the storm. Once again, we talked about how much we could donate to the Red Cross, what we could do to be prepared for an emergency, etc.

Kate is so self-centered. She appears mentally incapable of thinking beyond her own needs and wants. I think it was even an effort for her to tweet Deanna and ask how she was. For Kate, that's about the extent she can focus on someone besides herself. Sometimes people have mental disorders that don't show up until they are older. I think Kate may always have been a narcissist, but that her other mental illnesses were "containable" or manageable when younger. She could find a way to function among her peers, to a limited extent. She had boyfriends, she was able to seduce Jon, she held down a job (even though her co-workers apparently couldn't stand her).

But as time goes by, I believe her condition continues to worsen. Her connection with reality becomes more tenuous. She's on a collision course with a severe mental break, and I just hope the children are with Jon when that happens. Maybe this is why she has some bat*#it crazy fans - subconsciously or not, they identify with her.

@ call me crazy -- I don't want to get too political either, but I know what you mean and agree with you. I think Christie is handling this horrible situation pretty well, especially in working with the President and FEMA to get much needed aid and assistance to the people in his state. That's the most important issue now.

But I do not agree with his politics in general. :)

This reminds me of 9/11 - President Bush was no where on the airwaves because he was being flown from airbase to airbase. VP Cheney had gone to some underground bunker so he wasn't available to speak to the country either. Who was left? Guiliani. He was the face of some semblance of authority. He spoke to the country, telling them what was going on, best as they could tell. He was the only reassuring voice on the tv during that horrible, horrible day.

But do I care for him personally? his politics? No. However, I will always be grateful for him on that day. He didn't run and hide, he didn't jump into an airplane and freak out.

Admin - if this post is too political, please feel free to reject it. I certainly don't intend to stir up any unpleasantness :)

Why would I care what they think or say?????

Yeah, the tweeting is weird. Hello, Kate, the show is over. And if you are going to tweet "shows" then at least include pictures. Oh, wait, you can't cuz the photos wouldn't live up to the fantasy you tweet about. Huh.
In the Gosselin Book she comes across the same way. It's like she stopped being a mom and started being a "producer" but what she is "producing" is her (and the kids) life. And there must be an audience.
I think during the show's run she was constantly on the phone/email working out deals and trying to get the next appearance booked. Like what I think she and Steve are now doing. I don't think the Duggars are at home calling Gymboree to see if they would be a sponser. TLC has a department for that so they don't have to.
And the sad part about it is that Kate is so busy "producing" her life that she has no time left to actually live it. And she is depriving her children of a mother.

Ooooh, that sounds delicious! Is it similar to the one where you add creamed corn only with this one you substitute mashed sweet potatoes?
Is there sugar/brown sugar/cinnamon, etc. in it? Is it savory or sweet?
I just love finding recipes that are different and/or contain unusual ingredient combos in them.

Don't worry, I'll make sure to do plenty of research. I always do, especially if it's a presidential election. :)

I'm also very fascinated by and interested in politics. In fact, I got a little too involved and am now getting SO much email from every possible group, cause, you name it. To be fair, I did go and sign a few online petitions....which resulted in a 10X increase in the onslaught of emails...but it's getting to the point where it can take me an hour every day just to try and clean-up my email.....and I need to cool it.

But I do make it a point to never argue politics or religion. If it's a nice discussion, okay. But never argue. There are too many members of my family on opposite sides of the fence.

She's creating her kids' costumes? But I thought Kate said that they weren't big on Halloween? First of all it was they didn't believe in celebrating Halloween because of religious beliefs or whatever. Then it was costumes are too expensive. Followed by they have a large dress up section for play clothes to chose from.

This makes no sense. But, it's Kate.

I personally am saddened that she is so blind to world tragedies that happen all around her. It could affect you directly or indirectly but chances are when things that are big happen they affect everyone not just you. To go through life and be totally oblivious or cutesey to real people's suffering is simply incredible and heart breaking. Fun? Would she think it was fun if she was one of those more affected by the damages left behind? I should hope not.

Real people, real lives, real business they all have suffered loss been displaced, lost, broken or even in the worst cases people have lost lives, loved ones. Instead of turning on a television set being informed and compassionate she has to make it cute and ask Twitter fans what the latest is.

You can buy all the generators you want Kate but the fact is your complete lack of touch with humanity itself speaks more volumes than I thought possible. I am glad you and your kids are safe as well as for those who live outside the path of this storm. But in all honesty how do you go through life without being touched on some basic human level with remorse, compassion and love for people who now have to try and put themselves back together after events like this?

What are you teaching your kids to basically say, "Well we are unaffected so it's okay," your kids are old enough to understand that there is more to life than jus them. That they too can have a voice in tragedies and make differences. Your Tennesse trip was just a one time deal so what should I expect?

When Twitter becomes your family, your friends and your only view to the outside world I can't even pity or much fathom how truly ignorant you must be. How blind one person can be to real realities and real needs of people forever speaks in my mind that must mean you only truly care about you, yourself and your needs and it's wrong I think to not only live it but to teach it to your kids. This is where selfish people are made.

God forbid Kate if you ever have to face a real tragedy beyond being fired or facing life wihout a television crew in your face, or that you have to come back to a home in ruins and try and put those broken pieces back together. That you have really lost family and not simply cast them aside as you have done.

I think it's really great how the Weather Channel continues to do coverage of all the hard-hit areas. I think that if I was one of the people who lived in a totally devastated area, it might upset me that as soon as the storm was over...all the regular TV shows came back on and everyone's life went on as it had before......except mine hadn't. I think I would feel as if the world had gone on as before and had totally forgotten about me.

I think that there are many, many people in the country who have no idea that it can take years and years for an area to recover from these disasters. Once they stop reporting on it, many figure it just all gets repaired quickly as if by magic.

It was really a lightbulb-over-the-head moment for me a few years ago when they were reporting on an impending hurricane...either headed for Florida or the Gulf Coast....and they reported and showed-photos of an area where a prior hurricane had hit several years before....and showed how much damage there still was that had not been repaired yet. I'd never realized before that....just how long it can take for an area to be re-built after disasters like this.

Marie, I've felt since a child that one of the great wonders of being on this planet is to be a part of what's happening to others also on this planet. To be aware of local, national and world events. Sometimes that's great joys, like watching caption Sullivan save his airplane, and sometimes it's great tragedies like this storm. To shut yourself off from what's happening in this world is to shut yourself off from the human experience. And that's sad.

I wanted to comment about Kate not acknowledging being fired. There are people in this world that if they don't like what they hear or it doesn't conform to their own ideals, they ignore it. It is like saying, when it's sunny, the sky is blue. Their response is no, when it's sunny, the sky is pink. You can repeat til you are blue in the face and they just repeat their obviously wrong world view. The part that is so difficult, is that they don't raise their voice, they don't get worked up, just repeat their obviously wrong position while you, the sane one, go ballistic because they just don't get it. Bottom line, they get a rise out of the fact that you are so frustrated. That is how Kate survives this stuff in public. It never happened!! At least, in her eyes. Fired? What job? Coupon cabin what? A normal person would be humiliated, but at least acknowledge it. Same deal with the book. It doesn't even exist. I don't think I saw any tweet where she acknowledges a book was written. More food for thought. Does anyone think she will run another race again? Coupon cabin paid for each and every one that she ran before. If she has to pay, my bet, she won't enter any more. Unless she grifts another sponsor.

Did you mean would Kate ever enter a marathon again just because she says she loves to run and expressed interest in running in marathons...even if she had to cover her own expenses?

I agree with you...and don't think she would either.

I remember reading some time ago that where she lived, she was known for trying to get things at a reduced price, demanded to see store managers about this, etc. This was apparently very well known in the area where she lived and shopped.
And we have gotten a pretty good idea that she likes to get as much as she can for free.

But let's say the day came where she had to pay for everything herself and there were no more freebies. It would be interesting to see just what things she was willing to pay for. But do I think that would include paying the expenses to run in marathons? No.

RE: “I had been very clear to Governor Romney and to anybody who was willing to listen that I was not interested in being vice president. "

Do you believe that Christie walked up to Romney without being ever asked about becoming VP and said unprovoked: "I don't want to be your VP" ?

Generally, a question has to be asked or hinted at before one can answer at. Christie was being considered. If he wasn't being considered, he would have no reason to mention it. Instead he specifically says that he flat out told Romney he wasn't interested!

There are generally a number of candidates names that are being tossed around before the field is whittled down. In the 2008 election, Palin had a 6% to 8% chance of being picked out of the VP field by McCain.

Absolutely. I don't understand Kate. I really don't think she's unintelligent to the point of being stupid. I just don't get where her head is at...not caring about what's happening in the world around her. It's like she's oblivious to the fact that there is an existence apart from hair styling, nails, tanning, eating fish in paper, swimming in her pool, sitting her her leather sofa, tweeting, trying to hobnob with the rich and famous, and buying designer clothing.

How do you get to be like that? It's not really a lack of social skills, either, although she is sadly deficient in those. I just can't imagine her being on a talk show, or any kind of a television show where she actually has to say something intelligent. She puts her foot in her mouth every single time. Her faux paux remarks are all over the place.

Marie - I agree that President Obama was pushed into acknowledging that he believes gay and lesbian couples should have the right to marry. I believe he has said that they should not be discriminated against (in the workplace, when they want to rent a home/apartment, or otherwise). But he was hesitant to express his specific support for gay marriage. Biden opened his mouth and said "what's the big deal? Of course gay people should be allowed to get married." That was the shove given to President Obama (probably inadvertently by Biden).

In any event, the President has now gone on the record about this issue. He finally joined the majority of Americans who think it should be legal. I don't follow Christie very much - is he for or against?

Regarding the political posts, I always get a wee bit upset because although the politicians themselves manage to shake hands and put politics aside for the common good, the unaffected citizens cannot. Provision of services in disasters go up the food chain and back down again. In the end what is important that you get food, clean water, electricity. Certainly even teachers in New Jersey don't hate Christie so much that they won't take help offered by him.

Speaking of TLC (which nobody was) how is the CAKE BOSS? Isn't the bakery in Hoboken? Even the bars there are closed. Oh dear, disaster comes in many forms!

Fleecing the Sheeple asked: "How do you get to be like that?" re Kate's complete lack of interest in current affairs, the world around her, anything that isn't Kate-related.

Answer: Mix narcissism with mental illness. In Kate's case, it has produced a human being that has no discernable interest in other humans, beyond what they can provide her. She lacks empathy, compassion, or the ability to love even her own offspring. I speculate she's missing some important genetic component - perhaps the gene that enables most of us to empathize with others, to feel emotions such as love, caring, and concern. She can feel some emotions - but they seem to be primarily greed and rage.

Kate is a narcissist. I don't know how one gets like that, but that's what she is. She'll never be aware of the world around her. The world is full of mediocre people and events and her life is so much more interesting and exciting, oh, and FUN!!!!!!!!

Her fans merely feed her narcissism. They don't do her any favors. They'll be around though, as long as Kate has a twitter account and I can't imagine her ever getting rid of it.

I guess I should feel sorry for her fans but they're such boobs I just can't. They have no clue what Kate really thinks of them. They believe the few tweets she directs towards them prove that she really cares about them. She was prepping to run a half and at the last minute, she'll do a full one?!? Yeah, I don't think so. And she never ran another and never more than 13 miles now. She was supposed to do a marathon this month, but dropped it a while back. She claimed she was going to run a 10k, 1/2 and full in a span of 3 weeks. Ummm, a bit much, ya think. Then, last minute, dropped marathon and then dropped 1/2 in la last weekend. I personally don't think she ever had any intention of ever running a other FULL marathon again. And now that she would have to pay for everything herself, she won't do them. Isn't that why she didn't run la last week? That was to be her new brand, post TLC. Well, only if someone else shells out the dough, can it be her brand! Now, I believe she claims to run 10 miles every other day. That's not marathon training.

I am going to answer you because you have asked me directly. but otherwise I am dropping the political discussion. it was opened yesterday by a number of posters, but I don't want to continue to give it attention.

There is generally a pool of front runner candidates before the final announcement is made. Christie was one of them. He was not interested. He made that clear.

So I will answer you with a question: Why does Christie say he was "very clear" to Romney that he "wasn't interested in being vice president"?

I've never had to turn down a job for which I wasn't a possible candidate.

i'm also unclear why this is a point of contention. It speaks to the political cache Christie holds.

I don't know if anyone has said this (lately I just jump in where I can), but notice how she leaves out the pronoun. WHO's on to Halloween? WHO'S creating the Halloween costumes? It could be anyone. That she has a Rambo, etc., easily means they are her children. (Of course they are.) It's all "technically" true.

I believe someone pointed this out in regard to her Shoka tweets. The tweets are oblique. In Kate's mind she can mislead without lying. But of course it's intended to be misleading. I think we should watch for these tweets minus pronouns-I bet they're a clue to the real truth.

If she wants to shut us up, she will tweet a Halloween pic of the kids dressed up with Shoka. She has mentioned some of the costumes, so we could tell if it was taken today. Waiting for Shoka proof....still waiting.

Yes, her Halloween costume tweet is very misleading. She is NOT creating anything. My guess she has left it up to Mady and Cara to assemble the tups in their costumes. Wonder if the school has a party tonight?

That was me thinking it was removed, I was looking for it as well. Tweetle-de kindly told me to hit the 'all' button on the twitter page, and after doing so the 'superfunsandy' tweet is still there.
thanks to tweetle-de for sharing that info.

Trust me, your an idiot.
The fact is, Sandy and her remnants are still unfolding across North America.
In areas where I live, flooding is common and although the storm is past, high tide could bring record flooding. Businesses are still bracing and it could be as bad as it's ever been.
Hype my butt.

Here it is, I just read it and am copying and pasting it again, just as I did earlier. It is under the "Life Tools" retweet about strength of character.

I have often said, if you're looking at Kate's Twitter page, you need to click on "All" to see ALL her tweets.

Although I've read here daily for a long time, I had no intention of ever posting because others always seem to say what I feel about KG. However, the recent drive-by who posted about the picture at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier brought me out of lurkerdom. I am a military wife and my husband has dedicated 28 years of his life to defending this country. He's been deployed and my family deals with the after effects of his deployment every single day. We are proud of him and proud of his service. My kids know to stop still in their tracks, put their hand on their heart and face the flag when our National Anthem plays. They know what sacrifices are made to keep our country safe.

When that picture began circulating a few days ago, my husband made a point of showing it to the kids at dinner that night. He told them how much respect he has for those soldiers because they are the best of the best. He looks up to those fellow soldiers in spite of knowing they have nowhere near his rank or experience.

So, to that drive-by poster- you know nothing about what is considered disrespectful by our soldiers. But more than most, you should be thanking each and every person who puts on a uniform and defends your right to say the things you said here, especially the ones who gave all!

Sorry to make my first post a rant, but want to just say how much I enjoy reading here.

I get so tired of people who aren't in the area saying it's "hype" - it may not be all exciting to someone down there, but that doesn't mean that other areas are less affected by a storm. Some (dumb) people might even try to say that Katrina down there was "hype" - does that make it any less devastating to you from that regiona?

My spouse is going on 53 hours of overtime so far this week, to try to control flooding in Ohio, and it's only Wednesday. It's not hype to him.

Topswife - as a former (and deployed) military family - great post. We get it. ;)

Trust me, all hype, all SuperFun! What an idiot. Cat3 storms are dangerous, but Sandy merged with a powerful nor'easter to create the Perfect Storm. Bet this sheeple never lived through one of those.

"One of the more dramatic New York City rescue stories this week was the emergency evacuation of NYU's Langone Medical Center on Monday night. Now it seems another of the city's vital hospitals is about to go offline.

Officials say Bellevue Hospital is now evacuating hundreds of patients and staff. The center has tried to keep its doors open over the last couple of days, despite proper lighting or computers.

Bellevue is the flagship facility of New York City's 11 public hospital system, and it's also the oldest. Located near the East River, in the blackout zone of Lower Manhattan, the hospital had been operating on generators since Monday, but the 17 million gallons of water that flooded the basement has made conditions extremely difficult, according to the New York Daily News.

"The health department has authorized 'surge capacity plans,' hospital officials said. Appeals for other hospitals to take Bellevue patients have been marked 'URGENT' and 'ASAP,'" the news outlet reports.

The National Guard tried to help, flying fuel to the roof of the building, but workers entering the swamped basement realized the damage was worse than expected and decided to evacuate.

According to NBC, people were carrying babies down staircases on Tuesday. Lighting was described as intermittent, and there was strong odor of fuel.

"It's Katrina-esque in there," a nurse told ABC News."

SuperFun, Kate?

Despite the tree damage in the neighborhood, alot of kiddies (with parents) & teens are out trick-or-treating today.

Children are so awesome.

I live in a SMALL patch of "lucky ones" that made it through this storm unscathed.
I went out for a drive earlier, tree branches were EVERYWHERE. I saw a disturbing amount of fences destroyed- with huge trees laying on top. I also saw a house with a huge pine tree laying right on the side of their house (it didn't break through, thank God). Many neighbors a few blocks away, and many establishments, still do not have electricity/hot water. So I wish that ignorant person, who said this storm was alot of hype, should really think twice before flippantly making such a comment. There are people that lost their lives. Many people that lost all their belongings (home, clothes, furniture, cars, wedding photos/baby photos, etc...). Stuff that they worked so hard for- all gone in this storm.

There have been alot of low flying helicopters-
FEMA, Governor Cuomo did a fly over today to check on people. So I hope help will come to these people- at least before it starts to get really cold.

I hear that there will be a party tonight. Can I come? I don't eat much, and I can use a few good laughs.

Permanent Name in Blue and Administrator, thank you for understanding my intentions and sharing your thoughts.

I live on Long Island, and it's was and still is very bad here. I am thankful that I had no damage to my house or trees, although several of my neighbors lost several trees. I was without power for over 48 hours, but considering what other people on LI and in NYC have been and are still going through, I consider that a mild inconvenience.

People have lost their homes not only due to the wind and flood damage, but also due to fires that could not be contained because fire trucks could not get through.

I ask all those that pray, to pray for those families.

I hope my fellow Long Islanders that post here are safe. I hope that everyone here who was affected by this storm are also safe. Prayers are being said for all of you.

Not all beach dwellers are affected by this storm. Cities in Northern NJ which are badly affected, Bayonne, NJ is a residential area, people who live in apts and they need your help, please send money to that area. You can specify a town and that is where your money goes. This is worse than the arguing here. Money and blood are needed. Aggiemom, above posted the place to go.

If you call the American Red Cross to volunteer right now, understand you have a training class to go through and an area to work in, so put your name and phone # on their list, they will get back to you after this emergency situation. They need you to volunteer as much as they need your blood.
Everyone in my neighborhood has political signs and I always have the Give Blood Sign for the American Red Cross. Remember if you can give blood please do that. Many people will get hurt trying to restore the east coast as well as our military need the blood.

Jane V-M just interviewed the mayor of Seaside Heights. Oh, my gosh. Everything is under water and there are gas fires springing up under the sand. The residents never know if their homes are going up in flames. All of the rides look like broken toys and the rollercoaster is now in the water. It's so sad.

There was a notification in NYC that plants have discharged untreated wastewater into NYC waterways.
