Alaska, Here we Come! Recap: The family visits Mr. and Mrs. Iditarod

Coming up on Kate Plus 8! Shrieking, moaning, crying, barking. And that’s just from Kate. The clan is headed to Sarah Palin’s Alaska. Only for the entire hour they’re going to pretend this crossover wasn’t the whole point of the trip in the first place, and also they will pretend they never met Sarah, certainly never briefly went camping with her and her family, and overall she does not even exist. I’m guessing this, shall we say, “distancing” request came from Team Palin and not Team TLC. Or perhaps after that fiasco, in good old-fashioned Alaskan speak Palin had a message for Kate, a big fat HELL NO!

“We had the opportunity to go to Alaska,” Kate explains. And by “we had the opportunity,” she means, I had eight kids, sold them to TLC which then proceeded to pimp them out for five years, and TLC has now decided to pay for yet another filmed trip no one honestly wants to go on other than to bank their $250,000 for purposes of doing a cross-over which will ultimately end up on the cutting room floor anyway!

“Ironically, it is one of the places on our wish list,” Kate adds. Kate still has places on her wish list she hasn‘t been to yet? How long is that list? Also, I don’t understand what is ironic about that. I think growing up she must have been in the same English class as Alanis, who thinks it’s ironic to have rain on your wedding day, or a traffic jam when you’re already late. Actually Alanis, that’s not really ironic. The first one is unfortunate, and the second is just plain bad planning. And so is this trip, when the children should be 1. Enjoying their summer at home with their friends and dad and 2. Enjoying their summer without cameras.

Kate brags that ever since they went to Hawaii they’ve wanted to go to Alaska, not because Alaska is unique and amazing and gorgeous, but because Hawaii and Alaska are both “unattached” states. Oh, I didn’t know those states were single. Just like Kate. Maybe Alaska and Hawaii could be set up on a blind date. Also I highly doubt six six-year-olds have been constantly talking about trips they want to take to Alaska, and not about Dora the Explorer or those bandz bracelet things Jon says they like or whatever they are really into that I highly doubt has anything to do with traveling.

Break out the Indian Jones map and cheap graphics as a little plane makes its way up to Alaska. It was a seven to “eightish” hour flight, says Kate. The kids did well. Or did Kate just not have to be all that concerned with them because she brought nannies, helpers and bodyguards to go along with her? Speaking of which, they outright completely cut out Ashley from this entire episode, even though we know she went along because her mom Carla blabbed about it on her blog. They literally make it seem like it was just Kate the entire time and not an army of qualified, experienced helpers, too. It can be hurtful as a nanny to be so discredited.

The background music is all swashbuckling, frontier sounding as they show us beautiful shots of the mountains and lakes. The music sounds so familiar, did they steal this from Oregon Trail IV for Windows?

Day One and they’re visiting a family that raises Iditarod dogs. The dog owners are really nice to the kids and do a good job explaining all about the race and the dogs. Hey, if you can keep eight kids under ten interested for more than a few minutes you’re doing fine. Finally they bring out the tiniest, sweetest little Husky puppies, only two days old! I wonder if this makes the kids heartsick for the dogs they used to have. Poor kids. In typical Kate fashion, she tells us the family had about “280 million dogs.” Fortunately Colin has not inherited the obnoxious exaggeration gene. Maybe it‘s recessive in males. There was really probably ten or twelve dogs, Colin explains rationally.

They hook up the dogs to a sled and everyone gets aboard. Since there’s no snow, the sled really just looks like one of those mule things with wheels the Little People have. I assume this may be how dogs are trained in the summer but TLC is not concerned about teaching us anything useful.

What concerns me about this episode is that I think people are interested in Alaska, as I am. It’s sort of a trendy place right now after the Palin craze. I think we might see some decent ratings because people are interested in ideas for a trip. Oh, well.

Back from commercials, Kate says they were visiting the “Iditarod family.” Kate knows the Iditarod is the name of a race, and not the last name of one random family who happens to be training dogs for it….right? Ha. Iditarod is in actuality the name of a town in Alaska, from an Athabascan word, a Native American tribe. The kids are really loving this rough, speedy ride. They are honestly thrilled. On the couch, which the children are all spending an absurd amount of time on, (Are they keeping track of these hours, too? They count.) they are laughing and making fun of Kate who didn’t really enjoy the ride as much as they did. I just love when the kids mock Kate. I guess it’s good to know we’re not the only ones who think she’s ridiculous. They stop to strap the children in with seatbelts. “They were not in any harm!“ Kate says defensively, literally slamming her hands in the air for emphasis. Okay, okay they were not in any harm! Not from that anyway, Kate.

Peace, Love, World should be ashamed of themselves. That’s all the kids wear lately. Kate forces the kids to wave at David the cameraman who is following alongside them during the ride. Why do they have to wave at the cameraman when they were doing just fine and enjoying themselves? Seriously, why? I thought this was supposed to be reality anyway. It’s not real to wave at a cameraman.

Kate claims Alaska does not have grocery stores or restaurants. Geez, Kate, it’s not Calcutta. She really cannot help insulting everyone and anyone she crosses paths with. I bet she tried to order an English-Alaskan dictionary on Amazon before she left, and pulled out her passport at the airport too. Uh, ma’am, this is a domestic flight, I just need to see your driver’s license.

Kate says the crew was shocked when she stopped at a convenience store and picked up some peanut butter, fluffernutter, bread, crackers, cookies and fruit for the kids‘ lunches. What’s funny is she doesn’t exactly explain what is shocking about this. Like, is it shocking Kate would feed her children something substantial? Or perhaps shocking she wouldn’t just rely on craft services to worry about this? Or shocking that Kate even thinks about the children’s needs for once? I don’t get it! But I do love when Kate runs her mouth like this.

Back at Mr. and Mrs. Iditarod’s house, the kids are loving on the dogs and it’s so sweet and they’re having so much fun and it’s so sad that their parents set the family up for failure with their own dogs.
The kids have to eat lunch in the bus, which looks kind of depressing, but they don‘t seem to care. Kids slugged around day after day on various sets quickly adapt to whatever they need to do, whether it‘s eating on a bus or under a tent or sleeping in a strange place or what have you. Emma Watson wrote a great article, in her own words, for today’s Parade about how she had adjusted to set life in a rather creepy way. It is a must read and can be found here. Basically she says the sets were so regimented she didn’t know how to do anything without someone giving her permission to do it, even use the restroom. Now that she’s a college student at Brown with lots of time and freedom, no one telling you when to go to the restroom and such, it has been incredibly liberating and she loves it. She sounds like a really sweet girl. At least when she was on the set, there was a set teacher making sure she got wrapped in a nice warm blanket when she was chilly. Seems there was no one on the Alaskan set looking out for the Gosselin kids' needs. This is one of the many things that a set teacher is good for: monitoring a child's personal comfort level. Everything from making sure they are not too hot or too cold, thirsty or hungry, tired, and on and on. I have met several set teachers, worked with one, and I think set teachers are completely awesome and definitely necessary.
At least this time Kate only says they need to eat the cookies last and doesn’t dictate a specific order to eat the rest of the food. Fair enough.

Kate takes Mady and Cara on a plane ride to land on a glacier. I really like that Kate is doing something with just the twins. They need her so much. Kate says she’s never gone this long without wearing heels before. A whole two days? Wow, I cannot imagine. She’s so courageous. The mountainous terrain is amazing, the twins love it, even Kate seems to appreciate it. This is surprisingly relaxing and beautiful. Of course Kate can’t help herself and has to shriek a bit over some of the biggest mountains, but oh, well you can’t expect perfection. Snowball fight with Kate, Steve and the twins. Just like a cozy little family. I wonder if deep down Kate sometimes pretends that’s the way it really is.

I’m not sure what day it is now but today they’re going to pan for gold with the help of another random family. Where do they find these families anyway? Let me get this straight. Kate wants them to go on a long hike into the woods, but doesn’t want them to get muddy. The entire unpleasant hike consists of Kate moaning and groaning and bellowing out, “Watch the mud!” “please don’t!” “Go quick!” “ohhhh!” and so on and so on. The problem with a parent like this is that it raises a child’s blood pressure, is irritating to him or her, and puts anyone in earshot in a bad mood, certainly the child. In other words, it ruins it. Also it is annoying even to a casual viewer.

The kids are really interested in panning for gold. When you have a parent who is obsessed with money, this kind of obsession trickles down to the kids and they too become overly preoccupied. It’s just like it’s 1849 and the whole family is pitching in. Kids, you are already more than pulling your weight in the financial department, you really shouldn’t be all that concerned about this.

Kate is shocked that they are not finding giant gold nuggets and is very “impatient” with this whole process. This woman has been impatient about a lot of things in her life, starting with her alleged “infertility.” I wonder if she realizes how many weeks and months of pan-swirling people did before they ever struck it rich back in the day. I guess that’s understandable when most of your money has been just handed to you by the 250-thousands simply for at this point, well, breathing! Meanwhile the kids adore this activity. Kate cannot like anything her kids like, it’s like if the kids like it, Kate is programmed to feel the opposite, and vice versa. “Clearly I’m not a gold digger!” Kate says, slapping her knee and cracking herself up. Well, that’s true actually. She’s more like an Asian sperm doormat digger.

“If we find gold we’re gonna split it up for everybody, okay?” the gold guy says as he digs. Excuse me Mr. Gold Man, but by split it up does that mean evenly? Or 15% to the kids and 85% to Kate? Sadly this really does need to be clarified.

Steve gives Colin a ring to put in a pan and trick Kate. Colin takes it over to Kate, all proud of himself at what he “found.” I can’t tell if she is just playing along or was really fooled. The oddest part about this is I’ve never seen a photo of Steve with his ring on, certainly not recently. Where did the ring come from? Also are they trying to drill it into our heads he‘s married? Because no married person would have an affair, right?

Kate gives the gold guy’s absolutely adorable two-year-old son Levi more attention in two minutes than she has to her kids in a year. What’s with the name Levi and Alaska? I seriously perked up thinking this was the part where they meet Sarah Palin, but alas, no. Kate even wants to take Levi home. Hmm, he’s no cousin Oliver but hey it might work.

I guess we’re now on Day 2, according to TLC. However from all the paparazzi photos, twitterers, blogging mothers, and other blabbers, we know they spent over a week here. Remember Ashley actually flew home for a wedding then flew back out there? Crazy. I find it very hard to believe all of this stuff was crammed into just two days, or that they could comply with Alaska’s child labor laws and still get enough footage in just two days. More than likely this was spread out over many more days than just two. It’s very telling the kids have on the same outfits the entire trip. It would be a good safeguard when you don’t know how many days it will take to just have your actors (and I say actors because that‘s really how they should be treated under the law) wear the same thing day after day so it doesn‘t look like you worked the poor kids nine days in a row.

They’re in beautiful Girwood, Alaska. All these little towns are incredibly far apart, which probably meant very long, tiring bus rides. Explains all the exhausted child actors in the paps photos from the trip.

They ride a gondola to the top of a mountain. On the couch, I just noticed, is Kate wearing panty hose? What is this, 1993? Please tell me that‘s not just her tan, it‘s very dark. Some guys are trying to parachute off the mountain but I guess they were having some difficulty and Kate and the kids all watch. It’s surprisingly boring. Some of the kids look really cold, they have their hoodies on and are tucking their hands in their sleeves.

Day 3, the “very last day.” Uh, huh, Kate, we know you did not spend just three days up there, we have proof. Who spends just three days in Alaska? And also, where was your overnight trip with Sarah Palin? How about the trip to the zoo where we saw cameras? Or to a tourist gift shop? No decent footage out of all of that? Just read our blog they were there over a week filming all kinds of things. Proof that what is filmed and what ends up on the cutting room floor has a ratio of maybe 100 to 1. But whatever. On the “last day” they go whale watching.

The kids are getting impatient because there aren’t any whales out. Well this isn’t a zoo the animals cannot be forced to just stand there while you ogle and take photos. It’s kind of an eerie contrast watching the kids ogle at other living things and demand they come out to be seen just like America ogles at them and demands they be seen. I think Kate is adding “ish” to everything just to piss everyone off. The whales were “slimish to none,” she says. Gaa. Alexis melts down, throwing a fit because she cannot see the whales anywhere people are pointing. She screams and stomps around. Who does that remind you of? Why is it necessary to show this?

More shrieking and screaming, mostly from Kate and Alexis. Kate is disappointed they didn’t really see the whales that much. Sorry Kate, the whales don’t know it’s THEE Kate Gosselin they’re supposed to be coming out for.

Kate tries to make whale calls. The kids look at her like she’s a nut. “You’re horrible at it!” one of them says. Haha. Sure enough the whales really start coming out and Kate is shrieking like crazy. It is the most annoying thing ever, I hate screamers and shriekers. The kids scream, too. You know there are other people on this boat. Even a nice young couple with their arms around each other. Show some consideration. I hate when people stomp around through the environment talking loudly and shouting and not only scaring the crap out of any living thing within a mile radius, but also pissing off all other humans around, too. I am the type of person who would confront someone being this rude even when other people are saying just ignore them, please don‘t. I‘m sorry but it‘s rude and it‘s ruining other people‘s good times. Also, does Kate assume whales are deaf? Because anyone who has ever been on a boat before knows if you want to see wildlife, you should be very quiet.

The trip winds up. What happened to Sarah Palin? Did Kate no likey going camping with her having to pee in the woods and roast a hotdog on a stick? You betch-ya!

All I did was read this and I think...yep...I seriously have a headache with trying to comprehend a written version of the show. I hate to think what I would get if I actually watched it...no, wait, I do, probably a migraine.

Sorry I saw a couple of scenes while clicking thru said...

I was unlucky enough to catch a couple of scenes of this joke show as we clicked through watching other shows.

Now, don't shoot me here. In general, I like kids. But did anyone else find those Gosselins kids... well, I don't know how to say this without folks jumping down my throat... but they were revoltingly stupid-silly in my opinion. None of them listened when adults were trying to teach them something (dogs/panning for gold) and their interviews on the couch were just painful to watch. I immediately thought of the episode when the talent agent told Kart the twins didn't have "it". No kidding.

There. I said it. I really truly don't blame the kids. They only reflect how they've been raised. They obviously haven't had anyone teach them any manners, and considering the pathetic model they have for a mother, I am not surprised they act like they do.

I do feel badly for not liking them, but my post as a purpose and a query. How in the world does TLC think this family has any 'cute appeal'? How do they think American viewers will relate to these ungrateful, non-listening, non-engaged kids? And, of course, not to mention The Shrieker, aka Kart.

Most adults are able to teach their kids to behave in public with some modicum of manners. But Kart, who has famously never bonded with her kids, seems unable to know what she needs to do as a mother.

She thinks she knows what to do as a celebrity. How's that working out for you, Kart? Hmmm?

It is clear that as the money-makers in the family get older, they get less cute and thus less marketable. There are new familys of multiples coming down the pike, and their kids are baby cute and don't act stupid-silly for the camera. Yet.

And one last question: why the heck don't Purseboy and Kart just come out and admit they are doing the Horizontal Mamba? Geez, all she'd have to do to get some pity votes is to say she is 'lonely and horny - a kart's gotta get some now and then or she'd go nuts'........

It seems so evident that after his reprieve in Europe that he's back to living with her.

When do the numbers come out again? I really hope they've gone down, but I suspect they'll actually be up, what with the recent tabloid stories and the fact the show hasn't been on in a month.

So sad that you couldnt stop yourself from watching this travesty. I know we are invested, but I thought you would do right thing this time. Sadly, I was wrong. I'm still not watching. It takes fortitude. I guess not everyone is strong enough to resist the garbage.

Palin probably analyzed the bad press Katie Irene has received lately & decided to DISTANCE herself as far away as possible. Seriously, Katie looked like a psychotic screeching banshee!! & that poor TLC film crew, constantly listening to the screaming must be awful!

WTF is wrong with Steve, did he forget his professional duty as a handler/body guard. Either his ethical boundaries are seriously blurred or maybe he is stepping into a new role - father figure, possible boyfriend?! Who cares if he just came back from a European trip with his wife, maybe he did OR maybe he didn't...it's all speculation! BUT ONLY FILM, he seems a little bit too cozy in his role as a handler. CRAZY! So I'm going to speculate further. Was the trick with the ring a hidden proposal? Promise ring? What?!!!

OMG Kate is stupider than George W. She wants to see Alaska because it's not attached? Ahhmm Kate take a look at a map; Alaska is NOT an island. It's attached to a Country called Canada. You know that big blob of land to the north......God she takes stupid to a whole new level.

Sounds like Alaska was worked in behind the usual bits of Gosselin drama featuring LUNCH - how can Kate Gosselin possibly feed EIGHT kids. Bet the Alaskan Tourism board is cringing this morning thinking this was a good idea. The story boards are the same wherever they go. Kids are starving, must feed them, kids are soiling or wetting clothes, must freak out, kids are in need of their naps, must act frazzled. It worked for 2-3 year olds but now it is just boring and silly.

No Pain No Gain said...

I can imagine that the crew was indeed shocked that Khate atually thought about food ahead of time instead of waiting until the kids are wailing and falling out to feed them. But yet better to feed them snacks (because that is all they know, other than 3-day old eggplant) than to allow eat from the hot food truck that most certainly is in attendance with the herd that assaulted Alaska headed up by shrill, obnoxious Khate. Khate to kids - no soup, no soup for you. Three crackers and a half a peanut butter fluff sandwiches, a buddy banana -that's half and lots of cookies for crunch time when they hit the wall that for regular working folks would be quitting time. Never mind that they are working in the wilderness in the cold and might need something more substantial - hey, Khate to kids - man up, be a man all of you.

I think it was funny when you referred to Alannis (the ironic comment). Very funny!! Didn't watch!! I heard enough about the shrieking, thank you very much. How annoying. Is that all she can do to get attention? I would have said something to. If I were there to enjoy a trip & some woman was just yelling & screeching the entire time, OMG, yep, I would have asked her to keep her trap shut.

Sounds like a boring show to me! Hopefully nobody tuned in. The kids sound like they are shrieky little monsters too. Gee, wonder why? A great example for a mother perhaps? I guess we'll see when the ratings come in. I'm guessing TLC will keep us in the dark about the ratings for a couple days as usual, especially if they are bad. They probably are... *fingers crossed*

Hold your horses! Did TLC really present this as a 3-day excursion, or am I misunderstanding your post? Is there more to come - did they promote another installment to cover the rest of the trip?

Also, another question for you: what is with all of Kate's shrieking and screaming? I don't remember that kind of behavior from the early installments - except when she was ragging on Jon, but that was more harping and nagging. Do you suspect that the producers (or whatever you call the crew people) are egging her on and advising her to act up for the cameras?

Thanks for the recap. Victoria

Painful. Just painful.

Well, I'm proud to say that I did not contribute to the ratings. I don't need to tune in to know what a piece of crap the Kate + 8 show is. I made sure to keep away from anything made by TLC/Discovery last night, and I don't regret it one bit.

Judging from the Administrator's synopsis, I think it's safe to say that the Gosselin 8's day of emancipation is very near.

FREE THE GOSSELIN 8

I was laughing at Kate saying that they always wanted to see Alaska- that it was on her Wish List of places to see. Low and behold, the opportunity came.

@I saw a couple of scenes while clicking thru do not worry!The sheeple themselves LOVE to trash talk Mady.They "LOVE all the Gosselin kids" but..."Mady is a BRAT and MEAN".But otherwise they "LOVE" them, would kill to have them as siblings,are "proud of them" and have never seen "cuter,smarter kids" or a mom more "awesome and self sacrificing"...[insert throw up face here].
I watched some of it on youtube earlier(I just couldn't stand to see more than a couple of scenes mentioned in the recap).Here's what I noticed:
MAdy now talks like her mother-ads "ish" at the end of adjectives
Alexis really looked hurt when said "Mommy really likes him[Levi]"I swear she looked sad!
My question(one of the many)
The tups have been doing interviews since they were around 4 and 1/2...Mady and Cara were not allowed to until they were 8(I am not saying it as if the kids should be giving interviews).Do you guys see the favouritism here?Can you imagine how much more there is behind closed doors(I mean just on tv,well I only on youtube- 3 b-day parties for the tups or carnivals for the tups)?

Yes they made it very clear it was just a THREE DAY trip and it's such an outrageous lie I did a post on it. They never said three days of filming, it was in on the evening before the first day and out on day three.

In any case, if this were just three days talk about some GRUELING filming schedules. They try to make things seem not so bad and end up just making them look worse.

My ears hurt just from reading about the squeals/shrieks/mating calls. I think we should all chip in and buy earplugs for the kids.

Dear Admin: Excellent recap! I did not watch, as was much more interested in watching Pirates of the Caribbean for the tenth+ time. Much more entertaining than anything Kate G. may have to offer. You also made a great point about TLC's claim that it was just 3 days of filming versus an actual two week trip. I guess they think everyone is as clueless as they are.

I only saw clips from ET but I noticed the kids. I hate to say it but they have picked up many bad habits from their mother. Arms flapping, shrieking, poor attention, and they seem to be speaking at a lower level than would be expected. This breaks my heart.

Kate says the entire state of Alaska has no grocery stores or restaurants? I'll have to tell my cousin who lives there that he is only imagining that he is grocery shopping or eating at a restaurant. I mean if Kate says it then it must be true, right? Must be why Sarah Palin hunts moose.

So glad I didn't watch.

It would seem TLC has tried to erase any connection between Kate and Sarah Palin - how interesting since all those stories surfaced in the summer about the much anticipated camping trip and the big ballyhoo about bringing the two families together.

TLC will give Kate her walking papers when she becomes a liability to the network. The expense of dragging her and her kids to Alaska for the Palin meeting must have been enormous. Months later, TLC's decision not to show the any of that footage speaks volumes about the thorn that Kate has become in the side of TLC.

Don't let the wooden spoon hit you on the way out, Kate.

When Kate was interviewing Bristol Palin when the new cast was anounced for DWTS, she said how much she loved being with her mother and on and on....Bristol didn't respond and just stared at Kate. I am sure Bristol got an earfull regarding what Kate did on the camping trip.

It was actually PB and jelly. The kids had a decent lunch and got to take a break inside the warm bus. They were probably filming in 40-50 degree weather, so eating inside the warm bus was a good thing.

Alexis did look heartbroken over Levi. Alexis, poor kid, girl has some serious issues.

Colin is probably the most amazing out of all of them. He is logical, calm and very well behaved.

I know they made it look like a 3 day trip, but didn't Kate flat out say in the beginning that they were going on a 2 week trip to Alaska?

I turned the episode on because I wanted to see Alaska- and I was curious. When they brought out the 2 day old puppies and specifically said that everyone could touch them- but no one was to hold them- and the children listened but KATE put the owners in a bad position by asking if SHE could hold them- and DID - all while the kids looked up at her - I got sick!
1) - Kate should have set a good example by ALSO not holding them- and been content to pet them. What torture to a child!
2) - It reminded me of Mady asking for a drink, being told no, only to have Kate ask for a bottle of water and drinking it right in front of them all. What torture to a child!
3) - It was a sad reminder of just how sad it all is. (And, I what I did NOT tune in to see her cleavage!)

Just wait until those kids come out with their own books! I could puke!

I went on wikipedia to see if they had ratings for last night's fiasco but I couldn't find any.I did find in the description of the episode Alaska here we come written that this show is going to cross-over with sarah palin's Alaska.So maybe the zoo,gift shop and whatever tent footage they got will air in Sarah Palin's show?
At worst, TLC will just make another episode entitled Stuffed animals,Seals and Sight Seeing oh my! and get all that in there.The episode will start with Kate saying:"We were still in Alaska, and we were invited by the zoo..."..Wait, have we heard this one before?

Steve is a joke. Why does Kate need a bodyguard on a glacier in Alaska with her twin daughters? Wouldn't it be a better idea for TLC to pay someone to protect the 6 little moneymakers? Who was in charge of them while Kate and the twins were on the glacier? Me thinks something smells in TLC/Gosselin land. Gina is either dilusional or paid to keep her mouth shut. What wife would put up with these kind of shenanigans?

Before people throw tomatoes: Yes, I watched; yes, my children were in the room; no, I didn't let my kids stay up until 10 p.m. to watch; yes, we did record it on our high def channel at 6 p.m.; yes, my kids understand the situation and how ridiculous and sad it all is; no, I don't wish to defend my television viewing habits because it's nobody's business!

****

My 8 year old son called them out on the "two week trip" vs. "3 day trip" issue. When they flashed up the postcard that said "day 3, our final day!" he asked "I thought they said they were there for two weeks?" I just thought it was interesting that TLC thinks they can fool people with their creative editing, when a young child figured it out right away.

I wonder if Mady and Cara were confused when the bodyguard started playing with them just like daddy does when they're at home...Steve probably sees them more often than poor Jon.Is it possible that,just like that time they thought the nanny was their new mommy they now believe Steve is their new daddy? I wonder how the Nield boys felt when they saw this footage...Did they start to believe Steve is the G8's new daddy and no longer theirs?

Outstanding recap, Admin. By writing it, you satisfy our curiosity and we therefore DO NOT WATCH. Way to put your above-par writing talents to good use for the Gosselin kids! And speaking of which, from your recap as well as the previews of this episode - yikes - these kids need to be sent to boot camp, I'm afraid. Very un-cute. Had I been on that boat, I would have approached Kate and her party with my concern that they were disrupting the rights and pleasure of all of the other tourists aboard. (Just like she ruined the baby turtles being born with her shrieking.) And getting back to that boot camp?? Hope it's also got child psychologists and speech pathologists and nutritionists on staff, cuz these kids pretty much need to be re-parented. Poor children.

I was laughing at Kate saying that they always wanted to see Alaska- that it was on her Wish List of places to see. Low and behold, the opportunity came.

I'm surprised she didn't tell them that London was on her wish list because it's unattached; or some of the Caribbean Islands (think cruise). Look out, Disney Cruise Lines!

That's o.k. Administrator- I think that it's safe to say that Kate/TLC's version of reality, is really not real... it's more like an episode from "The Twilight Zone".

Kate's ruination will be the internet, the paps, and of course Kate herself.

Thank you, Admin, for a great recap.

I bet the Eight meets Palin rumor was just another lie spread by TLC in a desperate attempt to boost sagging ratings.

Kate's shrieks will hopefully fade away, as in "I'm MELTING.....MELting.....melting."

I had no intention of watching but my husband stumbled on the show and, because it was about Alaska, he watched some of it. Thank you Admin. for the re-cap. I did get a good view of Kate's enhanced chest as she was ALMOST wearing a top as she sat on the couch. I think I heard her say at one point that the tups weighed 32 lbs.(I could be wrong about that though) When our daughter was a year old she weighed 25 lbs. and by 6 years of age she was 55 lbs. I know the tups are small in stature but I wish she would feed them a little more. Heaven knows they work hard enough while she is well paid.

While I agree Kate could definitely feed her children more food, I just wanted to point out that kids (like adults) come in various shapes and sizes. My son was born 11 weeks premature, and now, at 16 months old, is still a very svelte 20 pounds. I feed him tons, but, being only two pounds when he was born, combined with the fact that long and lean seems to be the way he's built, makes him weigh less than other babies his age. Some preemies catch up to their peers, size-wise, while others remain on the smaller side for years.

Besides, it wasn't a vacation it was work. How many kids lay in bed at night and have dreams about 'going to Alaska' dancing in their heads? The North Pole to see Santa maybe - but not Alaska (no offense intended to the fine people of that state). Those kids were on the job site plain and simple for however long it took and whether they liked it or not. If this trip was on Kate's wishlist they should have left the kids at home with Jon and sent her and Steve up there for a little romantic getaway. TLC is only after ratings anyway and that would surely have garnered a few extra viewers.

Lynn @ 9:42 said: Steve is a joke. What wife would put up with these kind of shenanigans
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It's a valid question. I believe that they have been together from the beginning when Jon first voiced great concern. I believe that Steve is living there. They did not film for Halloween. Take is much too cheap to pay for bodyguard services out of her own pocket. Why in the heck was he driving the kids around for trick or treating? Very odd behavior. They are both greed whores. If they were to have come out TLC (even though they know the truth) would then be forced to terminate Steve. TLC would have no other face saving move. If they did not can him they would essentially be admitting that they were in cahoots with a married man hired to be the bodyguard for their (TLC's) "star" and all the while he was having an affair with her. Not to mention that they have aggressively spun this from day one (as has the media) that Jon broke up the marriage when it was actually Kate, Steve & TLC! If Steve were canned then his huge payday would be gone. Must have paid off Gina to make those appearances at the orphanage last Thanksgiving, XMAS and Easter! The one thing that I can't really understand is why Jon would continue to cover for these sleazy con artists? Can you imagine if my scenario is accurate how much life long damage this would do to the children to be a part of living this lie? Not to mention the abysmal model of a loving adult relationship that Kate & Steve have modeled for the 8.

Mrs Canuck said...

I agree with Nancy B. I think it's high time we all stopped questioning whether Kate "needs a bodyguard" at location A, B, or C. It would certainly appear that Mr. Neild has not been a bodyguard for quite some time. Their relationship appears to be very "domestic" and he most definitely appears to be a fool and a moron due to his entanglement with Mrs. Gosselin. And frankly, we are no better if we continue to believe he is in a professional role only.

Serious question. When Kate's finally off TV are you all going to keep blogging about her?

************************************************

Great question!!

I don't care if Kate's on t.v- as a matter of fact, I insist she get her own show, and let the critics EAT HER ALIVE with that. Afterall, she was so smitten by Hollywood when she appeared on DWTS- and she is such a talented dancer, uhhh... no...amazing author, uhhh...no.... cook, uhhh... no... comedian, uh...no again... singer?...no... actress? no... gifted interviewer, uhhh... nope. What the hell is she good at again? I seem to forget what she is famous for. Oh, wait- I know. She's famous for shoving her kids in front of a camera for our entertainment- that's what she's famous for.

Kate has nothing to offer, so she's using her innocent children in a carnival/sideshow-like angle, so she can snake into t.v land and satisfy her desire for fame & fortune.
The thing is, people are not buying into her sick plan anymore.

Seriously, when the GOSSELIN 8 are off t.v. and living happy, normal lives away from cameras- I will happily walk away. Kate on the other hand,
can go jump in a lake.

Now I'd like to throw your question back at you:

When Kate's finally off TV are you and your sheeple going to keep blogging/swooning about her?

How does anyone know how much these kids eat? Because we've seen them eating a few times on camera, and there wasn't much on their plates? Not all kids eat volumes at one sitting. Many times kids are grazers -- eating multiple small meals but not so much at one time. These kids are small-boned, slight in stature, and perhaps their little bellies don't hold much at one time. We don't see them eating on a daily basis, nor do we know the quantity or quality of the foods they eat. Somehow I don't think they are starving or suffering from scurvy due to malnutrition.

I'm sure Julia is far more concerned with her brother staying clean and sober rather than some random comments he made about Kate spanking her kids. Don't know where to put this, so here goes.

Dear Kate Gosselin,
When you are shopping at Target, it actually helps your day if you smile a little - or at least look pleasant, and stop staring at my husband - who took the day off today to purchase items for our new home.

I'm sorry no one saw your show last night here in town or maybe they did however they never acknowledged seeing you on TV and not one person in a very packed Target (weird for a Monday Morning at 11:00am) even said 'hi' or screamed out "We Love You Kate". (Didn't you say people did that when you shopped?)

I guess it's true that most people have lives.

As for the paparazzi Chris, well, I did not see him nor anyone else with a camera sitting outside Target waiting for you so they can take your picture. Isn't it nice to know that maybe the P-People will finally leave you alone. Of course, I don't know who Chris is, and he could have been the weird looking man sitting on the bench outside the store front.

The tight gray sweater and long slim jeans with the 5 inch pumps that you were wearing seemed nice, however, if you wore a belt, maybe it would make you look like you had a waist. (Hubby said that you looked like Olive Oil with a set of Double D's).

I did feel a little sad for you because you did look so alone and by yourself as you tossed in those 'items' from the end cap.

As we passed I was shocked you wouldn't even make eye contact with me but instead my hubby (yeah, sorry, after 19 years, he's a keeper).

All Snark aside, Happy Monday Kate! Hope you enjoyed your shopping trip - truly, if you were a bit more pleasanter I would guarantee people would be nice and friendly to you.

Interesting that BM is also posting about the Eric Roberts article. I think without the blogs, pro and con, Kart could have been done weeks if not months ago. I think she is "done" as far as Joe Schmoe Viewer is concerned, but the sheeple and jellus haterz keep her going.

The Emma Watson article was a fascinating read, but the Gosselin 8 are nowhere comparable. Emma wanted to act, was talented, was paid, was pampered, etc. To find anything that is comparable to the G8's experience, you have to go back to the 1930's when parents flocked to California to get their kids in showbiz. Many of those parents lived off their children, same as what is happening today with the G8. And that was during the Depression, when many families would do anything to support themselves, even pimp their children. Kart had a good job in a very stable workfield, so she has no excuse to continue this garbage.

They admitted they filmed the Sarah Palin trip, so this really debunks nothing. We know that trip was over the weekend. Just because we they call it "three days" doesn't mean they weren't filming other days that just weren't shown. They really do believe whatever TLC tells them. They were also seen filming at the zoo and at various gift shops, none of that footage was shown. TLC could have said this was just one day or even six hours and people would have believed it.

So far TLC has not promoted the Gosselin family appearing on Palin's Alaska at all. I've only read of one brief mention where TLC said they would appear in a 'future' Palin episode.

... what is with all of Kate's shrieking and screaming? I don't remember that kind of behavior from the early installments - except when she was ragging on Jon, but that was more harping and nagging. Do you suspect that the producers (or whatever you call the crew people) are egging her on and advising her to act up for the cameras?

Kate shrieked and screamed in every episode she could. She does it when you or I would maybe say 'ahhh or wow'. She did it when she saw the endangered sea turtles hatching despite being instructed to be very quiet. She did it when they were at Discovery Cove with the dolphins and when she was on the air boat ride and saw an alligator and dozens more times. It's Kate, TLC isn't egging her on. The acting up is all Kate. Although I'm sure TLC may have liked it at the beginning thinking it was cute, I believe they're as sick of it as the viewers are now. If you've watched the show and heard the children shriek and wondered where they get it and why they can get away with it -- Kate is your answer. She is their role model for this behavior as well as a few other inappropriate and unpleasant others.

No, not anyone. Cable has a small viewing audience and it doesn't take a lot of viewers to keep a program on the air...not like network TV.

Not to mention Kate is an extremely polarizing personality, as has been said many times. She attracts attention good and bad because of her outlandish behavior.

Then the gossip rags keep up the controversy because there are bloggers on both sides that plaster their links all over the internet, guaranteeing lot$ of hit$ for them.

I'm tend to believe her fans would have faded away sooner if there hadn't been the "haterz" to keep them on the defensive.

The only thing she's compromised are her Christian convictions. Well, Kate was wrong about it being the first time it's occurred in Alaska. Google has a bunch of entries with pics and reports of whales bubble net fishing/feeding in Alaska prior to the summer of 2010.

In case anyone is interested, this is what bubble net feeding is:

Its most inventive technique is known as bubble net feeding: a group of whales swims in a shrinking circle blowing bubbles below a school of prey. The shrinking ring of bubbles encircles the school and confines it in an ever-smaller cylinder. The whales then suddenly swim upward through the 'net', mouths agape, swallowing thousands of fish in one gulp.

How can this bubble fishing be something new? It's not like whales haven't been around since ancient times.

RE: Sarah Palin's Alaska - review from Hollywood Reporter:

"...Alaska did precisely what it set out to do: to keep TLC in the headlines for an impressively long time. Say what you will about the channel but you have to give it credit for seizing the moment, riding the controversy and, probably making a lot of money....

What’s most unfortunate about Alaska is that what could have been a very good travel and nature series gets co-opted by politics and the faux believability of a reality show. Executive producer Mark Burnett has proved time and again that with his team of camera people he can tap into beauty with ease the way he does most notably with Survivor. The harsh beauty of that show’s locations are part of the appeal. If it was simply titled Alaska, Burnett might have turned in a travelogue to be proud of.

But of course that never was the point, or series would have been on Discovery, where such attempts are nurtured. That it’s on TLC, where the only interest in nature comes from people’s overamped displays of human nature in front of a camera, tells you all you need to know....

Perhaps most surprising is that — in the first episode, at least — it doesn’t cast the best light on Palin’s kids.
Piper, 9, doesn’t seem to listen much to what Mom asks, and teenager Willow seems moody and defiant, at one point sneaking her boyfriend upstairs to her room after Mom slid the baby gate (for Trig) closed and told him not to go up. You’d think with the whole Bristol Babygate thing, they might have edited that part."

The fact that she wouldn't make eye contact with you but your husband does not surprise me in the least. My mother-in-law is a narcissist like Kate and this is would be a typical behavior pattern for them. It's uncanny how much Kate is like my MIL.

When we were still on semi-speaking terms with my MIL, we had her over for Thanksgiving one year and my husband had invited a former co-worker to stop by because he didn't have much family in the area. My narcissistic MIL wouldn't hardly converse with most everyone present, but when this man walked in, she went in for the kill. It was so awkward.

This is a great description of a narcissistic woman as it relates to conquering men:

Married men are no obstacle to the narcissistic woman who is looking for her one bounce man. She will muscle into the middle of a marriage regardless of the psychological entanglements of children, in-laws, or family ties. Being a narcissist this woman has no conscience; she's going for the finish line and no one will stop her. Certain narcissistic women are skilled at immediately assessing the pulse of a man's vulnerability to capitulate to her power and desirability. I have watched many narcissistic women move from husband one to four in magnificent leaps and graceful pirouettes of manipulation and seduction.

Not surprisingly, my MIL has been married 3 times.

I watched one of the reruns of the show last night and wanted to clarify just one detail for those who haven't seen it.

The dog 'sled' that Kate found so scary was actually a 6+ passenger off-road utility vehicle with nice comfy seating (as Admin mentioned above). It had 4 wide tires, roll bars, seatbelts, and an engine. The owner merely put it in neutral and let the dogs pull it along a wide dirt and gravel path which looked almost like a road to me (I don't remember seeing any pot holes). Sure it was a little bumpy, but it was nothing like what I imagined it to be.

If the ring fits it must be yours said...

I think it is a little strange that the ring Steve wanted to fool Kate with just happened to fit Kate perfectly when she picked it out of the pan and slipped it back on. It originated with her--the ring and the lame idea. It wasn't Steve's ring, it wasn't the other bodyguard's ring, it wasn't Mrs. Neild's ring (sheeple say she was there just as she always is). It was a lame idea Kate had and it was her ring all along. Steve is a good little boy and does what the directors say.

It's taking TLC an awfully long time to get those ratings out. Usually, other shows have their ratings out the next day. What's up TLC? Ashamed?? Pitiful. Are they lumping all the viewing from both nights into one ratings bonanza? It will probably still suck. They ARE deceptive to say the least...

From this article:

"On Saturday night, TLC ran constant promotions for "Kate Plus 8" during its "Strange Sex" marathon, which featured a man with a balloon fetish and a granny who dated 30-year-olds interspersed with "Kate Plus 8" ads."

~~~~~~
Saturday evening I was scrolling through Comcast's menu when I noticed that TLC had a "Strange Sex" marathon on. My thought--I would hate to showcase my children on a channel that views this as prime-time entertainment.
However, the level of creepiness went WAY up when I saw MyFoxPhilly's report that TLC used the marathon to promote "Kate+8". Why promote a show about real children during THAT, of all marathons? True, it was the night before, but that's just smarmy.
The MyFoxPhilly article pointed out that there had been scant little promotion for K+8--except for during this marathon. TLC is gross.
On a serious note, thanks for that bit of wisdom. It's very sad that there are people in the world who don't understand that shouting their faith from the rooftop doesn't ring true when they act in manners unbecoming. The strongest Christians I have met are quiet people who will sit and talk about their good works in the world in a humble and peaceful way. They are unwavering in their drive to do right by their lives in gratitude for being on the planet at this time.
Why Kate feels the need to punish the world instead, we'll never know...
FYI:
Saw Kate (again) this morning as I driving back from taking the hubby to work.
Here's the story:
Came of the highway on my exit (we've moved so now I have a different route to get home) and saw the big Blue van heading to the 'bus stop'. It looked like the nanny was driving, so I figured I'd just see if it was just to see if the jellus haters or the sheeple were right about who takes the kids to the bus.
I parked a ways away in the parking lot but close enough to observe and saw a short blonde woman, with her hair up in bun, sweatshirt, etc. NO paparazzi...and it looked like the 'look-a-like' nanny.
Satisfied, I headed back on my route home, and noticed that the van was in the other lane so I looked over and that's when I saw that it was Kate not the nanny who brought the kids to school.
So here's what I learned this morning:
Kate looks like crap in the morning (just like every other mom early in the morning dropping her kids off to the bus) especially when there is no planned paparazzi photo session.
I was impressed she actually did the driving/dropping off herself. Rumors are that the nannies do it all. We all saw her sleep in and let Jon do the morning routine before the big divorce.
Other families seemed to be waiting in their cars with their students until the kids were on the bus. (not sure why, could have been a coincidence)
There are no p-people following her anywhere, no one bugging her. So she does live a pretty private life (or people just choose to ignore her)
Two sightings in two days - amazing. So, I hope this clarifies a couple of the arguments on both sides.
Oh...and I was going to say in my last (Target) post...that Kate is Skinny! She's a board with HUGE boobs. No waist at all. I'm impressed at her thinness, but I don't really think she's that attractive in person. However, she was dressed pretty appropriately on Monday with NO cleavage, just a tight grey sweater.
Have a great Tuesday.
Wow, that's a little over the top. We don't have to hunt for crappy things Kate does. I find it disrespectful to bring Shannen and her father (may he rest in peace) into Kate's sorted life.
------------------------------------------------
I don't know who wrote the 1st post, but I have to agree with the 2nd one (Just a Thought's). Kate has nothing to do with this & I am the LAST person to stick up for Kate. What does Kate have to do with Shannen Doherty, or anything relevant to this at this point & time for that matter?
As for her crappy show, (didn't watch) & I am so glad. All I am reading is that she shrieked & screeched throughout the entire show! And the kids are following suit with their babyish behavior. Why would ANYONE want to sit through someone's boring home movies, watching this tripe? Does Kate think this is "cutesy" to scream at whales? Isn't she a grown woman? I remember when I was younger & an older girl told me to act scared & helpless in front of boys by shrieking & screaming when I saw spiders or was up in their tree house & couldn't climb down their ladder. Maybe she thinks this is a way to get attention from Stevie-boy. Acting all helpless. I outgrew that when I hit 14. Kate apparently is still in that mindset. She is in desperate need of help if this is the way she was acting. And she is doing her kids no favors by teaching them to react the same way. She has 8 screaming kids on her hands. She better start plugging Excederin.
I had a theory about the food issue from awhile back. This is a working set with a full crew and craft services is usually required by law for the cast and crew. Craft services is usually an all you can eat affair, I've seen sets where not only do they feed you a full hot meal buffet style, but there is a separate snack truck open all day long which might typically contain things like fruit, yogurt, powerbars, and candy. No one goes hungry on a set. I think the kids could very well be grazing at craft services and then when it comes time for the real "meal" they're just not hungry, which would be understandable. Hence the three grapes and a tortilla chip.
Those kids are doomed, Kate grabbed Maddy and shook her so hard, that the TV crew had to break up er scuffle on Sara Palins new show, the personal assistant to Todd Palin wanted to file charges against Kate for child abuse
by honor maria3
Was that BEFORE or AFTER the photo shoot where Maddy appears to be crying while Kate appears to be digging her banshee claws into Maddy's shoulder?!! Maybe that's why Kate & Steve left for 2 days, so she could work a PR spin.
The production crew of the show demanded that Kate/kids be edited out of the footage but was denied by top brass (ratings) in several of the scenes you see Sara Palin looking at Kate in disgust and also not even acknowledging her
The deal that was made, the Palins and crew would not report it (did not want the negative exposure) if Kate left that evening and gave no interviews regarding Alaska/trip or they would report the incident to local PA authorities
THE REAL KATE- several cast members from DWTS confronted Kate regarding her verbally abusing Steve in front of the ENTIRE crew, dressing him down for forgetting her cell phone(left in trailer) they told her "thats no way to treat someone"
Not appropriate: What you aren't considering here is that Kate is a 'celebrity'. It's not like anyone was stalking her. This person lives in the area and saw the big blue bus and followed to see who was driving. I see nothing wrong with what she did. As long as she didn't approach them and stayed a discreet distance away, this is what a lot of people do with a lot of 'celebrities'. And then she reported back to let people here know what she saw. When you say, 'so if someone followed you and your kids -- you'd be okay' is something I've heard a lot. Kate chose this life, it is part of the fall out of 'celebrityship'.
Oh, and the comments by Kate about her heels. What a doofus. For the first couple of years on the show she never wore shoes period. Certainly never heels. That has been just in the last year while she has been trying to get some man, any man, to notice her. She's pretty on the outside but toxic on the inside. Every man who has ever watched TLC knows this and runs, not walks in the opposite direction when she appears.
I posted this on another site and want to post this here:
Dr. Shawn...
Something that really hit me in seeing her was how sad she looked. (or maybe she was tired)
I will add for clarity, that on Monday I was at Target (we moved into our new home this past weekend and hubby had the day off so we picked up cleaning stuff) and as we were heading down the main aisle to the checkout counter my husband said to me: Did you see who was staring at me. Apparently she made eye contact with him for a little bit. Not with me - wouldn't look at me. She was NOT smiling, did not look happy at all. I posted, and snarked about it. I had not seen her in person...and didn't expect to see her...very odd.
No one in the store I saw as we passed bothered her or talked to her. She was all dressed up...skinny jeans, tight grey sweater and super high heeled pumps/shoes.
I don't feel great that I did a snarky post, because after seeing her this morning, and adding it to what I saw on Monday, I really felt bad. I guess that's why I followed the van, to see if she really did have help, or if she was doing it on her own.
Seriously, she must be really lonely. She lives out in the county, no one here seems to like her or perhaps they just don't acknowledge her. All I've heard second hand is what a 'b*itch' she is.
Seeing for myself, especially this morning sealed it for me. She's doing what she thinks is best for her situation. However at this point it may not be best but she must provide for the kids.
The attack on her as a child abuser was UNCALLED for. I wonder if that is why she looked so tired/down on Monday and this morning.
I know I can't make presumptions from just a few brief encounters, however, I do know that she's a real mom/person/friend that is trying to get some good out of her situation. People who sit out in the sidelines and judge her need to grow up.
This includes all the 'super mom' judging as well as the snark.
No one is perfect. Not very many people can last being put on a pedestal as the 'greatest thing since sliced bread' or survive 'the worst mom in the world' comments.
She lives between those two scenarios and unfortunately lives it in the public eye.
I wish to God there was a way she could do something else where she wouldn't be judged for every little thing.
Kate once said "you can't go back, you can only move forward". Agreed, however she can move forward in a slightly different pattern. I hope that someone offers her something or that her Twist of Kate show maybe would get started. Anything for the kids to be out of public scrutiny.
As for being skinny...seriously. Pictures do her no justice...she is thin, thin, thin and when she wore her heels she looked taller than she is, because when I saw her this morning she looked really short.
*LOL*
Enough analyzing. Glad to at least have been able to share a little more. (and even eat a bit of crow).
BTW...on Radar is am/was TBT.
)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I don't want any attacks as I was just an observer... and sharing what I saw and my own thoughts.
Um...the male verion of the name AARON!!? that IS the male version. These people don't fact check for anything.
There is nothing wrong with what was said. How else would you explain the spelling of the male version of the name Aaron? There is a female version spelled Erin.
Where was the story reported concerning a "deal" TLC made to not report Kate grabbing Mady? Does this come from someone who was there? How was this leaked, and has it been confirmed?
It wasn't reported anywhere. Some random commenter on ROL said it.
BerksPa, there is no need to feel sorry for Kate. She brought her loneliness upon herself by shutting everyone out of her life, except those she needs to use to further her celebrity status.
As for providing for her kids...please! Her kids are providing for HER.
She may look sad, but she's laughing all the way to the bank.
Actually, whales travel in pods, as do dolphins and other mammals that are mistaken for fish. :)
@ Carol, I couldn't agree more, You would think that she would study up on these free trips that TLC gives her and her kids. I would assume that is why they send her all that paperwork she collects from UPS. Instead of doing her homework, she stands in front of the mirror all day with spatula in hand imitating ET or anybody who would have her commentator. Next time Katie Irene, study the damm program, that is your job and yet you suck at that too.
BerksPA, I'm thiiiiis close to feeling sorry for her since I read your last post. But until she drops the cocky angry bitch routine she's not going to win much support. Please keep the info coming.
This is OT but I keep wondering who really has the oversight responsibility for the on-going review of the documentation that records the 8 kids' hrs on a consistent basis? Who is monitoring the documentation for the permits in NC, FL & Alaska along with those hours? Isn't this the home state of PA's DOL's role to tabulate the daily total hours?
However, WG stated that the judge's ruling last month allowing Take the sole discretion on when and how often to film supersedes the DOL. I still maintain that the DOL's responsibility for the oversight of hours worked remains under their jurisdiction. I also believe that the PA DOL has NEVER actively performed their oversight duties that encompass all the filming done in these 3 other states. I doubt that anyone has been consistently reviewing these and if I lived in PA I would be hounding them for a resonable response to these valid questions. Oh, and all the couch time tabulations of interviews with the kids recorded and counted as well.
watcher said...
BerksPa,thanks for your comments. I've long thought it's time for the petty, nasty, juvenile snarking comments about Kate to end. The real problem is how she treats those kids. It is up to Jon to try and take control of getting the kids away from an abusive mother. Calling her names continually does nothing to solve the real problem, and it's old and as I said juvenile behavior.
Travis Yanan posted Sunday cable final ratings but did not list Kate Plus 8.
Someone should twitter him (@travisyanan) for the info in case he forgot to list it, which happens occasionally.
Sorry I don't twitter.
Umm, well actually Carol, it's called a 'pod'. :)
Observing Kate for ONE morning taking her own kids to school without a nanny is certainly no proof she does this every day. There are certainly plenty of pictures across the web proving otherwise. Even a few lately of nannies arriving in their car to help load them on the bus.
As far as being lonely? That is Kate's own fault. I do NOT feel sorry in the least for her. She needs to make amends with GOOD friends she discarded, like Beth. Even her own mother.
She is still using her children to "do the best she can". Give me a break.
According to many sources I googled, groups of whales can be referred to as pods, runs or schools.
A Pink Straight Jacket For Kate said...
I appreciate your observations, BerksPa.
I also understand (I'm pretty sure all of us here do) how sad it is to see a person, obviously lonely- maybe even overwhelmed. It's very sad. Her condition is also self inflicted, you know.
Fact is, Kate deliberately chose her path in life for herself and her children. Who did not agree with her was against her. She knew exactly what she was doing.
Problem with that is:
- she has robbed her kids of their childhoods
- she has robbed her kids of their privacy
- she has robbed her kids of having a voice
- she has robbed her kids of having a choice
- she has robbed her children of having a normal mother
- she has robbed her children of having normal relationships with friends
- she has robbed her parents of having NORMAL relationships with her children
- she has opened her children unfairly to ridicule
- I can go on and on...
And for what? Fame and fortune?... Feh.
Look what that has given her and her children- EMPTY LIVES with emotional issues, etc... Her children have become performing monkeys, and she's (and TLC) their trainer.
I don't think any of us would ever expose our children the way she has hers. That does not make us perfect. That makes us conscientious.
She is to blame for her choices, not us for opening our mouths and protesting for her kids.
You said she looks sad, and all alone. Maybe she's feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders... maybe feeling contrite for her decisions... maybe she upset about her t.v. show going into the toilet, or her career tanking... maybe she's upset because her cook, babysitter, laundry person, gardener, pool person etc... etc... is not available as before... maybe people aren't available to her beck and call... maybe she could not get an appointment with her nail salon... maybe she's pissed off that she's burned so many bridges, made so many enemies... maybe she had cramps....maybe her children are worrying her... maybe her souffle fell...maybe is realises that people are on to her- only Kate knows.
Truth of the matter is that everyone on this board has made decisions, good and not so good. But I think we can unanimously say that children come first, not money, and not fame.
I feel bad for Kate. But she has the power to fix all this crap- if she really wants to. And it's not to late, she's still young, and her children are still young.
FREE ADVICE TO KATE (take it or leave it):
She is not star material (she really isn't), but perhaps she can parlay her strong personality into a career that involves managing a company... or something along that line? She can provide for her family in an honorable, kinder manner, and away from the public- so that she and her kids can live happy, peaceful lives. And this is a big one: she's going to have to die unto herself, give up her pride, and reconnect with her family and friends. I promise, people will respond positively to her intention, and leave her alone. That is, if that's what she really wants.
P.S. I don't remember any of us here proclaiming to be "supermoms... :o)
(Pardon me, I must be going. I have to pick up my cape at the cleaners...oops ;o) )
......So here's what I learned this morning:
Kate looks like crap in the morning (just like every other mom early in the morning dropping her kids off to the bus) especially when there is no planned paparazzi photo session.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That's very interesting, Berks, thanks for the story. When the story about one of the tup girls being suspended broke out, I immediately assumed Chris the Pap would be laying off for awhile. Any bus stop pap photos would reveal which little girl wasn't going to school. If that is true, thumbs up to keeping her identity private. That would explain why Kate didn't bother dolling herself up - she knows the paps aren't working today.

Kate wanted to see Alaska because it was "unattached"?
Yes, it is attached to Canada, but if you recall, Kate thinks Canada is part of the US. She had been to Canada for a speaking engagement, yet proudly proclaimed that her bikini trip to Mexico was her first trip out of the country.
So, in KateWorld, Alaska is attached to the giant state of Canada! There goes that silly reason!

Berks PA, I'm enjoying your informative posts and also found the copy/pasted posts from another site very interesting, because it honestly sounded like that person was present in Alaska. On another site, there's a poster who has posted under the name "Insider" and who stated that if we knew what really went on inside that house, we would all be alarmed. Of course, I know this is all hearsay until someone posts under his/her real name, which will probably not happen. Still, very interesting.

I also believe that the PA DOL has NEVER actively performed their oversight duties that encompass all the filming done in these 3 other states.

--------------------

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this, but PA has no jurisdiction when filming is done in other states. That's why producers, filming in Eastern PA, often go into New Jersey to film. Each state has its own set of child labor laws, and it is up to them to make sure that TLC is not violating them. However, when the kids are filmed in PA, such as the corn maze and Party City, according to the laws, a copy of the permit, as well as working hours, etc., must be displayed. I've seen no evidence that they are doing this. It is also a violation for minors to work where alcohol is being served, and we know that they have been filmed at restaurants, such as Austin's, where there is a bar.
This is why we so desperately need a set teacher here. The vote on the bill will come when the legislators are in session.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
PA cannot completely ignore filming done out of state. They have an obligation to determine how many hours the children were filmed elsewhere, be it outside of the state or even country, because hours filmed outside PA still count toward the TOTAL hours a child is allowed to work in PA that week under PA's own law. If they did not want to bother with what kids are doing in other states they should change the law.

So while PA may not have jurisdiction over other states it's not exactly accurate to say that it is only up to the individual state to determine labor laws.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

True, and you are so correct! Which means he is not a Pap, but Kate's private photographer, paid for by TLC. They will likely continue to keep Chris on the books in some capacity for a while even after the show is gone, because they will continue to try to promote the DVD's.

And if being a REAL freelance photog trailing Katie is so lucrative for him, why is he the only one? Wouldnt others be there too? Because he is on a payroll, that's why. And that is why whatever pics she doesnt want published, like now, will not even be taken. She controls her personal photographer.

So for me he is no longer Chris the Pap, but rather, Chris - Kate's personal hired photographer.

I read a comment somewhere else that said many of us here had watched the Sunday night shitfest. (NOT me.)

For whatever reason, some who do still watch seem to need to "confess" about it here afterwards.

Reading those posts gives me the same sick feeling I'd get before I quit watching after the "bowel renewal" episode here where I live in Hawaii. I swear, watching J&KPlus8 started to make me feel physically ill, right after the first two specials. I kept lying to myself, saying it was only a coincidence. It wasn't.

Speaking only for myself, I'd just rather not read those "confessions" by people who still choose to watch. I don't like the feeling I get; sort of like guilt by association maybe.

BerksPA please keep writing and sharing with us --especially if you encounter Kate again. You injected a note of humanity into our analysis. I felt sorry for Kate when I saw her through your eyes. It must be another side to the woman who sat in the interview chair with an extremely revealing knit top...or the woman who emotionally tramples her children. I got the impression that you saw the "sad child" inside Kate and you felt compassion. Thank you for sharing with us.
