Flimsy, I'm glad you made that point about Bill Berloni. I am a great fan and read his books, including Dog Tails, about his showbiz animals. All are rescues, and his priorities are their comfort and safety.He also looks out for the kids in the shows.

IF TLC continues to film, the only things I can think of that could stop the insanity are Jon getting a court order to stop it, or public backlash, which I think we're on the brink of. Kate was able to usher in the news of Collin, and the new season, with Norman Rockwell-worthy tableaus of her lily-white-clad family, smiling like nobody's business. People accepted the premise that sometimes children need such intensive treatment that they are placed in an inpatient facility, to get the best of care. But now? 8 months later? The boy not even home or visiting home or seeing siblings? The family carrying on happier than ever with puppies and the best parties and vacations EVER? That is outrageous.
The comments after the "Collin returns" stories are brutal, just scathing. She really isn't too well admired, is she? Even poor Milo couldn't possibly do damage control. She'd be pulling out her hair and totally exhausted to the point of having to call in her Executive Ewe Understudies!

****** No ice here, but we're all complaining about the temperature flux being so huge- like 40 degrees! I'm very happy to have 60 degree temps, but almost wish it would stay cold long enough for me to get used to it! All I ask for for one really nice, big snowstorm that socks us in for a few days.

I saw part of the episode last night and had to stop watching because it was just that painful. Several of the kids have no interest at all in being on TV, and most of them have no problem solving skills whatsoever. If that's what it looks like when the cameras are on, I'd hate to see what it's like when they cameras are dark.

I've been reading some of the comments posted on the Daily Mail and TLC's K+8 FB page. Heartbreaking to read Collin "looks drugged out of his mind", "zoned out" and "over medicated". Also, "nasty Maddy" and her "stinking attitude".
I'm surprised people watched in the number reported. The people who are commenting are, I believe, taking the time to show real concern for the lack of health and happiness of these children. The comments are scathing but people are not commenting for the sake of being scornful. It would behoove TLC to take notice.

When I was young and Fergie was photographed in her flowered jeans, my mother arranged for a relative from London to send a pair over for me (without realizing that U.K. sizes are about 2 sizes smaller than US ones). I had to do a lot of jumping jacks to be able to fit into them, but it was worth it. I made quite a splash in my middle-of-nowhere Midwestern hometown. The Brit relatives still send us regular boxes of yummy Brit foods-- Bisto, chocolate HobNobs, Cadbury chocolates (we fight over the Double Decker bars and Buttons), teas, jams, clotted cream...sigh. And we have all tried (and hated) Marmite. We're saving for our next trip over there. Or perhaps I should forget saving and sell out my family to TLC for a free trip. Based on that, I highly doubt Kate would put any Target (or whatever big brand store) sheets on her precious bed. No less, red ones and purple ones. I thought she may use these in the guest house or even on the dogs when they came in wet. Or why use them on anything. I would not put it pass Kate to simply throw them in her garage and then sell them at the next garage sale. After all, it was not her money that was spent. Nor did it come out of her TLC paycheck. Looking at K8 with that 75-lb dog in her arms leaves no question in my mind she could effectively manhandle any one of her six "littles." The clips I've seen of Collin in last night's show, he looks about 60 pounds to me. No contest.
Leslie (35), I remember that tweet. It was very obvious from the over-the-top gushing that she was promoting the sheets. She was doing a lot of Twitter promotion at that time--for Coffee Mate, Bella Bars, some dress company (Elissa Suzanne or something), Parentables, some cheap jewelry thing, etc. She probably got a free set of sheets for her troubles. But now she's not doing the promotion stuff so she either has to get whatever TLC will pay for, or buy her own. We all know which she would choose to do, even if she only gets cheap Target sheets.
I think the difference in tone on Facebook vs. Twitter is obvious. Kate doesn't seem to be on Facebook and so it's more of a discussion forum, much like this place, where you're not there to get the celeb's attention or suck up but rather to have a real discussion about something.
Most people are on twitter to interact person to person, often with the subject of your conversation yourself. It's not a good place to have a "discussion". It's rather sound bytes thrown out at various people, back and forth, with Kate often responding directly. It's a lot more uncomfortable to really dive deep into these issues knowing Kate is right there able to jump in at any time. She stifles the conversation on twitter, actually. The Facebook discussion have been, naturally, much more substantive.

That's all correct. It really is a shame this is getting spun as those liberal weenies out there making prostitution legal. Not so. Actually, we've had these supportive services in place for a year now and for a year cops have funneled hundreds of exploited children our way, this law is just solidifies what we're already doing to help these kids. We're gonna do it anyway, law or no law. If cops refuse to arrest and prosecutors refuse to prosecute, no law is even necessary! This just codifies it. This conservative here gives this two thumbs up. Some of the services are really cool, like empowerment camps for teen girls--the girls have LOVED it. Also even the whole intake process has been changed greatly such that there is intensive training on how to talk to and support the children in a manner that makes them feel comfortable and builds trust so that they will ACCEPT the services instead of running.
CA has this novel idea that there might actually be less child prostitution if we support the victims and treat them like victims of the adults who exploit them, instead of throwing them in jail. We don't believe a child can "consent" to prostitution when they are a child.
Can you imagine if we treated exploited child ACTORS/REALITY STARS this way? Recognizing they've been exploited and it's not their fault, offering support and services to transition away from exploitation and developing their self worth?

Last night's show was filmed last January. The kids had been getting up at the crack of dawn every weekday to go to school, and coming home when it was dark. And they had to spend their whole weekend making a TV show? With a crowd of people in their house, making them perform like circus monkeys? Didn't one of those 8 kids have a friend who wanted them to come over, or a movie they wanted to see, or a birthday party they were invited to? Or maybe they just hang out at home and unwind, and get energized for the week ahead? And this has been going on for a DECADE.

Agree. And there is the crucial point that child labor laws are trying to make, and that is that the parent has a conflict of interest.
When you put a child out there as the key to a parent getting a great deal of money, it's hard for some parents, Kate included, to put their best interests first. It's a clear conflict of interest. Sure, not every parent will be swayed by it, but enough do for it to be a grave concern.
At the end of the day it does not surprise me at all they really had homework to do that day. Not only was Kate being irresponsible and not making sure they did it before filming began (perhaps she was too distracted with prepping for the big film day that she didn't bother), but she didn't do what clearly was best for them.
In any other scenario we all know most good parents would make them do their homework first. Want a friend over? Go finish your homework. Want to see a movie? Finish your homework. Want to go play outside? Finish it first. Really anything else would be put off to finish the homework.
But because Kate's not about to tell production to go away so they can finish their homework, what would normally happen in any other scenario won't. It's so wrong, so detrimental. It's not just a little homework, it's a metaphor to so much else, so much that comes before their best interest big and small.
I also love how whoever manages the TLC shows (individual) facebook pages, never puts up a show update on Kate's page until just a couple of hours before airtime but always update LPBW and Outdaughtered way early in the daytime.

I think she has turned to this doggie loving because it's not happening with the kids. And yes, the tups are incredibly immature for their age. She's made them that way, not because they were preemies. Immaturity allows her to control them. The girls drive me crazy. And Cara and Mady are incapable of speaking coherently without "like" in every sentence ( a particular pet peeve of mine). Of course, Kate does the same thing...amazing for a 41 year old. I think Kate doesn't allow the younger kids to watch Kate Plus 8 because of two reasons.
One... They don't like how they look or are portrayed on the show. The probably will refuse to film, or at least, refuse to do certain things, wear certain things, etc.

CC (#48), great observations. Plus, the tups may finally be at the eye-rolling-at-Mom stage (where the twins have been for years). There's a time when there's nobody nerdier or more embarrassing than your mother -- even if she just says something innocuous in front of your friends that you think is lame. So can you imagine having your mother acting like an arrested adolescent on TV? Bikini romps, fright wigs, breakdowns during fun family activities -- it could be very disturbing to those kids. Living it is bad enough. But to then see it packaged as entertainment?
Sometimes when I'm writing this stuff down, it strikes me how uniquely awful these kids' childhoods have been. And the disparity between the "golden platter" life TFW brags about giving them, and the burdens she has created for them, is striking.

This new revelation about the kids not watching the show after all is a big red flag. HUGE. Kate is saying or doing SOMETHING on the show that she thinks it's better they not see. Best guess she's not being honest in her interviews and the footage is portraying them negatively when perhaps other edits could portray them more positively or provide context to bad behavior. Contrast these past few grab-and-go shopping trips to that demure young PA mom at the store with her calculator and her pile of coupons, looking for bargains while some nice neighbor came over to keep an eye on her babies while they napped. "I never ever ever buy milk unless it's on sale." I bought it all hook, line and sinker. Didn't realize back then that TLC was paying for that shopping trip. And that TFW could've run out to shop whenever she wanted, because she had tons of help.

I must really be the odd person out. I guess I'm not in my right mind, but I love shopping with my kids, then finding a new place to eat and having some great talks over lunch. I remember Jon said in an interview that the kids(at the time 10 and 14 I think) have to ask Kate before they get themselves a snack or water from the fridge. If it's true, the control she has over everything they eat or drink is downright insane. At least some of them are at risk for eating disorders. I don't think the kids can be brainwashed if they watch the show. That's why Kate "doesn't let them." Because she can convince them of all that only if they don't watch the shows. Those kids have Kate's number. They bash her on the show and call her out all the time for lying and inconsistencies and being dramatic, annoying, selfish, etc. Can you imagine what they would say IF they DID see her lies and insults on the show?
I do think they are brainwashed when it comes to their father. At least the ones that haven't seen him in a while are. The ones that see him know the truth. The others just know what Kate has them believing. She has been very successful in alienating them. I believe she alienated Alexis and Collin because she doesn't want Jon seeing them and knowing they are being medicated or something along those lines.
The problem is, she is competing with her kids. She won't let any one of them shine. There have been many activities that she did not need to be there. Ugh. Just so much is wrong about all of this. But she can't blame Jon for this one (she will try!), because she's done it ALL ALONE!

But I don't believe they were talking about cupcake gate. But they could have but they are just too young to realize that they are being gaslighted. When they get older and they watch crying over the cupcakes then hear their parents say, they forgot about them. It was so funny. It was no big deal.
But when they watch the crying, then hear their parents and then see how hurt they were in the video and what their parents said, that is going to hurt and they will be much older.
JMO, but the kids do look a healthy weight( a couple even had chubbier stages) to me with the exception of the boys at times. Collin as last seen. Leah has always had a slight build. But I agree about the food rationing- means of control.

Yes, the gluttony when she goes shopping is horrendous. The first store was obviously Micheal's, which is not cheap. When my boys were little (or are they big now? not sure, since her almost 13 yrs olds are still little), and they were into crafting and painting, etc, the dollar store was the best place to get those supplies.
Now, here in Canada, since Target left us (sad day!), the most comparable store would be Walmart. Even buying a cheap set of King sheets would be at least $50. And her kids see this every day. When I go shopping with my kids, I make sure I say if something is expensive, or a good deal.
The Gosselin kids know no bounds. She is doing them no favours by giving them life on a golden platter. Imagine the shock they will have when they go on their first vacation as adults, and suddenly have to pay for all the extra curricular activities they want to do. I do think some of them will turn back to Reality TV to maintain a lifestyle that they grew up in.
Her using food as a weapon shows how much she hates her kids. She does not care about their well being. Kids should have water whenever they want of course. They should have all their meals, hopefully well balanced and portioned to age. Snacks are more up in the air as is dessert. You can say snacks are ok or not ok or what they should contain, same with dessert. There are a million other ways to punish your child for misbehavior that still leave them fed. (Not that splashing on a water slide is misbehavior.)

I think Kate keeps track of every single dime in the production budget and makes sure she spends all of it. If she was allowed $500 for the Target trip, then she was darn well going to get exactly $500 of stuff, including buying herself new sheets and pillows to use up any extra. And probably tossing a few candy bars or packs of gum in the cart in the check-out line if there was a dollar or two left. She is a grifter. She can't help herself.
I think that's why she wanted to be a "producer". She wanted to sniff out every little thing she might be able to squeeze out of the production budget and make sure she got it. Why pay for new glasses for Aaden if she can get it paid for by production? Why not get a separate lobster for everyone to try if there's money for it? Who cares if it was wasteful? She's not paying for it! And she always makes sure they are extra groceries for her to pack up and take home. The greed is mind- boggling.
None of the kids had anything good to say about their mother in this episode. Mady even almost repeated Kate's exact words from the infamous "no fun things" scene. TFW excused all rudeness and bossiness as good qualities to possess, and that Mady was much like herself. Blind. Deaf. And dumb.
I remember the toddlers were given mini M&M's as rewards during potty training. I think it was one for #1, and two for #2? Those things are microscopic.
Wasn't one of the punishments in TFW's journal because the kids broke into her M&M stash?

At their age, I'm not sure they go to the dr. for an annual physical. Not like they are getting shots or involved w/ sports that require them. Since they've beeen in the same school, not sure if they would be required as they enter the "upper" grades. Maybe they only see a dr if they're actually sick. The one boy did look very thin and drugged and one of the girls (as seen in her bikini) thanks to her mother, looked almost chubby, which must be killing Kate.

Intouch is saying Collin is home now after receiving treatment for his "special needs". Why would they write such an article when obviously it is not true. I think Kate singled him out because he has a mind of his own and she could not control him. I loved how he wanted to dress in a nice shirt and tie. He seems like such a loving child and really wanting to please her. Now one of the girls is going through the same treatment.....not seeing her dad, appearing medicated, etc.

Yep. Same here. Everyone sat at the big table, food was in bowls and we passed them around family-style. We took as much as we thought we could eat. If we wanted seconds, we took seconds. If we wanted dessert, we ate dessert. The beverage was always milk or water, never soda or tea. None of us grew up to be overweight or had issues with body imagine or became anorexic or bulimic.
Good PA Dutch food kept us all normal and happy! Please pass the chow-chow, liver and onions, Cope's corn, and beef tongue!

There are not many scenes like this in any other seasons; this one, like the recent one of "Who's going to Daddy's?," seemed very staged to me, like it was put in there to show off something "important" about K8's parenting. Staged except for Collin's reaction---it almost looked like he was set up to get in trouble. Very disturbing.

I urge everyone to watch the part where Kate and Deanna are at the Mexican restaurant. Kate appears a bit loopy after her bubble gum martini and is now on a glass of wine. Deanna is yammering on about some stupid shit regarding their friendship and who would of thought blahbady blah blah. Kate makes a comment in response which is so telling. Can't remember the words that she spoke but the look on her face when she said it is, 'I am saddled with these kids forever' and it is not a lovely look, believe me. Please. Watch this scene. It is incredibly telling. I replayed it a few times and could not believe what I was seeing. Kind of shocked me that this shrew did not have the wherewithal to hold back her emotions on camera. I've always thought that Collin showed signs of being on the autism spectrum as a toddler. Very mild symptoms. IMO, over time his challenges were not addressed and other psychological issues emerged. Kate is entirely to blame for where Collin is at this moment.

****** I found that very odd too. First, Colin is getting in trouble for making an offhand remark about his sister's hair. Then he's getting in trouble for having a look on his face that he's getting in trouble. That poor boy can't win. Kate making fun of his face was just ridiculous. What is his face supposed to look like?
Sad but true (#113), I agree that TFW only has her eye on a TV career. And there is no way she would be hired as a producer on anything that she wasn't also involved with on camera. She is not creative, not a hard worker (unless you want her to clean out a fridge with toothpicks for 4 hours to avoid her kids), and not, in my opinion, particularly intelligent. WIthout those 3 qualities, she wouldn't be a good producer.
She's putting a lot of effort to be chummy with the fans. Compare that to the stretches when she's just disappeared for weeks. I think she's worried about the ratings. Or maybe she's just laying some groundwork to score some birthday gift cards in March.

Saw an incredible movie last night - "Hidden Figures" based on the true story of three African-American, brilliant woman who were employed by NASA during the early years of the space program. Best movie I've seen in a long time.
I may of heard of author Louise Penny here originally and also remember Hillary Clinton mentioning her as a favorite author. I've been working my way through the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. Most books take place in and around Montreal and her exquisite writing makes me want to jump on a plane and visit, even in the dead of winter!
That's it. Kate's still a monster of a mother and while it looks like TLC is done with her, I'm afraid I still think she's Teflon and will be on TV in some way for a long time.

Not political -- I promise! But the Bush daughters just sent the Obama daughters a note to wish them well. They lived through the same childhood of growing up in the public eye. The Bush girls said something like, you were put in a position you never asked to be in. And of course it reminded me of the G children. But TFW only portrays her kids' lives as rainbows and unicorns (*waves to our poster*), golden platters, and once-in-a-lifetime memories. Even with C's situation as dire as it is, she not only hasn't slowed her pace, but has doubled-down on the family fun-fun-fun.

How can any mother blather on like that-like a giddy high school girl-when she's got a 12-year old son who hasn't slept in his own bed in 8 months? How can she act so excited and whimsical when Collin is gone? I don't think she really misses him. Any parent worth their salt wouldn't even entertain the idea of moving on until they got their child back home! I mean, sh*t! I watched this last episode out of curiosity more than anything. The one thing that stuck out to me was the way she had that bird clinging to her, while Collin say mere inches from her and was pretty much ignored by her. The one she should have been clinging to and showing extra attention to was that child. She is a total failure as a mother.

Another time she said she's a "CA girl at heart", and she has called NYC her second home. She seems to think she's above her surroundings in rural PA, especially living in "ghettoville". Anyone else remember reading in Robert's book about how she wouldn't drive through Wernersvile? She'd take another route to go through a more affluent area.
I still wonder about the stories of her buying a condo close to where I live. It's an affluent area, which would appeal to her, plus it's close to Steve's house, Discovery HQ, and Whole Foods. She'd be in heaven. But I don't think she did. News travels fast around here. If she was hanging around, people would know. Other than a few WF sightings over the years (which coincide with her trips to Discovery) there is no news of her. She can't take the kids and leave PA right now, most likely, but she may uproot and leave once the kids are grown.

Way back in school, we called this stuff "gobbledygook." It sounds impressive, but it means nothing.
I've been trying to play catch-up on these posts and read the comment from someone who refused to call Kate "Kate" because it's Katie on her birth certificate, saying that she became Kate because it rhymes with eight.
Mady's middle name is Kate, not Katie. She was born before Kate Plus Eight was conceived (pun intended) and the younger kids hadn't yet been born. I would think, then, that Kate was known as Kate even before the twins were born.

I don't believe for a second that TFW communicates with Gladys privately. Look how Gladys jumps like an excited puppy every time TFW shows up on social media. The other night she felt left out that everyone was posting about their dogs and she didn't get to be a part of it. She tries to insert herself into conversations that involve Deanna or Jamie, and have nothing to do with her. And she almost always puts a question in her tweets, hoping for a personal response. Milo's MO is tweeting strange and random platitudes. Nothing new there. I don't believe for one minute that Kate shared anything with blabbermouth Gladys, especially something as sensitive as a custody issue.
She has been spotted a few times at the Whole Foods in Silver Spring (MD). I think the closest WF to her house in PA is a fairly long drive, so she probably stops in to the store when she's here for meetings at Discovery HQ, which is also in Silver Spring.
Milo might have been tweeting about the situation with Collin, but who knows? She thinks Kate fights this mighty, heroic struggle every single day. If I were one of Kate's kids, I would be irritated to know that my mother thinks it's a huge burden to raise me.
My friend Mary has 13 kids. Yeah, 13--I counted. And she acts like it's no big deal. In fact, she seems to really enjoy her kids and spending time with them and doing things with them. TFW doesn't even have to drive to the school -- just the bus stop. And she can even come home and go back to sleep (which she's admitted), because she has no steady job. But she's always SO busy and SO exhausted and SO happy to put her head on her pillow at night. Again, how can an average, "mediocre" mom relate?

Discovery bit on their show proposal and she was off to her dream. She had those kids to get a TV show; she didn't have them with any thought as to how to parent them. Her entire focus was TV and money. Jon & the kids were merely her delivery device. She got what she wanted and if the show is finally (sigh) over, then the kids may be of no further use to her. Time will tell.
But, as every narcissist, the kids are a reflection of her. Since Colin wasn't reflecting properly, well, something needed to be done.
Yes she will eat her young if they do not flatter her self image. Mady is just like her & is a comforting reflection. If she can't get a bite on another show that includes the kids, then Jon just may get them because they will be of no further use to her. What I dislike about her is forcing the kids to film for HER benefit. From Day One, she plotted and conceived the plan to have multiples and USE them to grift and make money. But it looks bad for sure and the impression left is not positive for her or the kids.

Again, I have to bring up Macy's behavior. There was apparent editing of cutting out Mady yelling at Kate. As a parent, I have to wonder what the parents of the girl who is their friend (who goes on the trips) thinks about the friendship. Obviously, Mady calls the shots in that three-way just as she steamrolls over Cara. Not a healthy thing to allow your child to be in a bullying relationship, and that is exactly what it is. Those parents must be star struck by allowing their daughter to be occasionally on TV even if she is nothing more than background filler. Telling that this girl is their only friend.

I did not get the impression from Milo that Kate won her battle with Jon, more like it is ongoing. I cannot see how she could possibly win when everything you need to know is aired in regards to Collin and the kids. I think Jon has a strong custody case, particularly if Collin is talking to the counselors.

TLC stinks, I give Alexis a break sometimes. She seems actually fond of the animals and is interested in things like the landscaping they did and thanked the man who helped them. She was last pick for this game night and is always put with Kate for activities. Her tup sisters make it clear they dislike her and "mean girl" her out of their relationship both physically and by distancing themselves or saying inappropriate things about her, like she's an animal or crazy. Alexis well could still have issues which caused her to be expelled from K, but she just seems to me to be a loner in that family, a little immature and very different in interests from L and H. And talking about looks, H often gives her a look of disdain Kate does nothing about.
Formerly Duped (#194), I've always had a soft spot for A, too. WIth C gone, the boy tups A & J have each other. The girl tups H & L have each other. And of course the twins have each other. Poor A seems disenfranchised to me. I haven't watched the show for years -- just going by comments about the episodes here.
And of course if Collin were to be so open about his emotions, Kate would get on him about it. She wouldn't have been so reassuring with him like she was with Alexis.
I think Collin bottles up his emotions all at once and then let's them all out when he's about had it. I also wouldn't be surprised if Collin told Kate about herself a few times haha. Joel and Aaden seem more on the "calm" side but who knows.

People have been saying for years that she's toast, but for some reason, she comes back and I have no idea why, other than that the network knows that there is a market for nasty women and their spoiled kids. It's that darn proverbial train wreck for those who think she's horrible but can't turn away, and a love affair for those naive sheep who think she's the best parent on the planet. Kate was able to usher in the news of Collin, and the new season, with Norman Rockwell-worthy tableaus of her lily-white-clad family, smiling like nobody's business.
People accepted the premise that sometimes children need such intensive treatment that they are placed in an inpatient facility, to get the best of care.
But now? 8 months later? The boy not even home or visiting home or seeing siblings? The family carrying on happier than ever with puppies and the best parties and vacations EVER?
That is outrageous.
The comments after the "Collin returns" stories are brutal, just scathing. She really isn't too well admired, is she? Even poor Milo couldn't possibly do damage control. She'd be pulling out her hair and totally exhausted to the point of having to call in her Executive Ewe Understudies!

I saw part of the episode last night and had to stop watching because it was just that painful. Several of the kids have no interest at all in being on TV, and most of them have no problem solving skills whatsoever. If that's what it looks like when the cameras are on, I'd hate to see what it's like when they cameras are dark.

It is hard to believe the younger kids will be 13 years old in 4 months. They seem to have the maturity level of 9 year olds. What grade are they in now? Maybe 6th grade?
I've been reading some of the comments posted on the Daily Mail and TLC's K+8 FB page. Heartbreaking to read Collin "looks drugged out of his mind", "zoned out" and "over medicated". Also, "nasty Maddy" and her "stinking attitude".
I'm surprised people watched in the number reported. The people who are commenting are, I believe, taking the time to show real concern for the lack of health and happiness of these children. The comments are scathing but people are not commenting for the sake of being scornful. It would behoove TLC to take notice.

I was a Brit in another life, too! I love Brit shows, Brit humor, the beautiful scenery and castles and even fashions. When I was young and Fergie was photographed in her flowered jeans, my mother arranged for a relative from London to send a pair over for me (without realizing that U.K. sizes are about 2 sizes smaller than US ones). I had to do a lot of jumping jacks to be able to fit into them, but it was worth it. I made quite a splash in my middle-of-nowhere Midwestern hometown. The Brit relatives still send us regular boxes of yummy Brit foods-- Bisto, chocolate HobNobs, Cadbury chocolates (we fight over the Double Decker bars and Buttons), teas, jams, clotted cream...sigh. And we have all tried (and hated) Marmite. We're saving for our next trip over there. Or perhaps I should forget saving and sell out my family to TLC for a free trip. You know Susan, I have to disagree with this. I remember Kate tweeted awhile ago the specifics of her sheets on her bed. They came from some website and were very expensive.
Based on that, I highly doubt Kate would put any Target (or whatever big brand store) sheets on her precious bed. No less, red ones and purple ones. I thought she may use these in the guest house or even on the dogs when they came in wet. Or why use them on anything. I would not put it pass Kate to simply throw them in her garage and then sell them at the next garage sale. After all, it was not her money that was spent. Nor did it come out of her TLC paycheck. I think she wanted the king-size simply because they covered up more space.
Looking at K8 with that 75-lb dog in her arms leaves no question in my mind she could effectively manhandle any one of her six "littles." The clips I've seen of Collin in last night's show, he looks about 60 pounds to me. No contest.

I remember that tweet. It was very obvious from the over-the-top gushing that she was promoting the sheets. She was doing a lot of Twitter promotion at that time--for Coffee Mate, Bella Bars, some dress company (Elissa Suzanne or something), Parentables, some cheap jewelry thing, etc. She probably got a free set of sheets for her troubles. But now she's not doing the promotion stuff so she either has to get whatever TLC will pay for, or buy her own. We all know which she would choose to do, even if she only gets cheap Target sheets.
I think the difference in tone on Facebook vs. Twitter is obvious. Kate doesn't seem to be on Facebook and so it's more of a discussion forum, much like this place, where you're not there to get the celeb's attention or suck up but rather to have a real discussion about something.
Most people are on twitter to interact person to person, often with the subject of your conversation yourself. It's not a good place to have a "discussion". It's rather sound bytes thrown out at various people, back and forth, with Kate often responding directly. It's a lot more uncomfortable to really dive deep into these issues knowing Kate is right there able to jump in at any time. She stifles the conversation on twitter, actually. The Facebook discussion have been, naturally, much more substantive.
But no police officer finds a child prostitute and walks away saying Have fun! Headlines like "child prostitution is now legal" are meant to inflame while being full of misinformation.

That's all correct. It really is a shame this is getting spun as those liberal weenies out there making prostitution legal. Not so. Actually, we've had these supportive services in place for a year now and for a year cops have funneled hundreds of exploited children our way, this law is just solidifies what we're already doing to help these kids. We're gonna do it anyway, law or no law. If cops refuse to arrest and prosecutors refuse to prosecute, no law is even necessary! This just codifies it. This conservative here gives this two thumbs up. Some of the services are really cool, like empowerment camps for teen girls--the girls have LOVED it. Also even the whole intake process has been changed greatly such that there is intensive training on how to talk to and support the children in a manner that makes them feel comfortable and builds trust so that they will ACCEPT the services instead of running.
CA has this novel idea that there might actually be less child prostitution if we support the victims and treat them like victims of the adults who exploit them, instead of throwing them in jail. We don't believe a child can "consent" to prostitution when they are a child.
Can you imagine if we treated exploited child ACTORS/REALITY STARS this way? Recognizing they've been exploited and it's not their fault, offering support and services to transition away from exploitation and developing their self worth?

Agree. And there is the crucial point that child labor laws are trying to make, and that is that the parent has a conflict of interest.
When you put a child out there as the key to a parent getting a great deal of money, it's hard for some parents, Kate included, to put their best interests first. It's a clear conflict of interest. Sure, not every parent will be swayed by it, but enough do for it to be a grave concern.
At the end of the day it does not surprise me at all they really had homework to do that day. Not only was Kate being irresponsible and not making sure they did it before filming began (perhaps she was too distracted with prepping for the big film day that she didn't bother), but she didn't do what clearly was best for them.
In any other scenario we all know most good parents would make them do their homework first. Want a friend over? Go finish your homework. Want to see a movie? Finish your homework. Want to go play outside? Finish it first. Really anything else would be put off to finish the homework.
But because Kate's not about to tell production to go away so they can finish their homework, what would normally happen in any other scenario won't. It's so wrong, so detrimental. It's not just a little homework, it's a metaphor to so much else, so much that comes before their best interest big and small.
I also love how whoever manages the TLC shows (individual) facebook pages, never puts up a show update on Kate's page until just a couple of hours before airtime but always update LPBW and Outdaughtered way early in the daytime.

There's a time when there's nobody nerdier or more embarrassing than your mother -- even if she just says something innocuous in front of your friends that you think is lame. So can you imagine having your mother acting like an arrested adolescent on TV? Bikini romps, fright wigs, breakdowns during fun family activities -- it could be very disturbing to those kids. Living it is bad enough. But to then see it packaged as entertainment?

This new revelation about the kids not watching the show after all is a big red flag. HUGE. Kate is saying or doing SOMETHING on the show that she thinks it's better they not see. Best guess she's not being honest in her interviews and the footage is portraying them negatively when perhaps other edits could portray them more positively or provide context to bad behavior. There was an episode (I think Utah) where Beth was watching I think Mady and it came out that Kate had said no dinner if she didn't behave. I remember Jon said in an interview that the kids(at the time 10 and 14 I think) have to ask Kate before they get themselves a snack or water from the fridge. If it's true, the control she has over everything they eat or drink is downright insane. At least some of them are at risk for eating disorders. I don't think the kids can be brainwashed if they watch the show. That's why Kate "doesn't let them." Because she can convince them of all that only if they don't watch the shows. Those kids have Kate's number. They bash her on the show and call her out all the time for lying and inconsistencies and being dramatic, annoying, selfish, etc. Can you imagine what they would say IF they DID see her lies and insults on the show?
I do think they are brainwashed when it comes to their father. At least the ones that haven't seen him in a while are. The ones that see him know the truth. The others just know what Kate has them believing. She has been very successful in alienating them. But I don't believe they were talking about cupcake gate. But they could have but they are just too young to realize that they are being gaslighted. When they get older and they watch crying over the cupcakes then hear their parents say, they forgot about them. It was so funny. It was no big deal.
But when they watch the crying, then hear their parents and then see how hurt they were in the video and what their parents said, that is going to hurt and they will be much older.
JMO, but the kids do look a healthy weight( a couple even had chubbier stages) to me with the exception of the boys at times. Collin as last seen. Leah has always had a slight build. But I agree about the food rationing- means of control.

Yes, the gluttony when she goes shopping is horrendous. The first store was obviously Micheal's, which is not cheap. When my boys were little (or are they big now? not sure, since her almost 13 yrs olds are still little), and they were into crafting and painting, etc, the dollar store was the best place to get those supplies.
Now, here in Canada, since Target left us (sad day!), the most comparable store would be Walmart. Even buying a cheap set of King sheets would be at least $50. And her kids see this every day. When I go shopping with my kids, I make sure I say if something is expensive, or a good deal.
The Gosselin kids know no bounds. She is doing them no favours by giving them life on a golden platter. Imagine the shock they will have when they go on their first vacation as adults, and suddenly have to pay for all the extra curricular activities they want to do. I do think some of them will turn back to Reality TV to maintain a lifestyle that they grew up in.
Her using food as a weapon shows how much she hates her kids. She does not care about their well being. Kids should have water whenever they want of course. They should have all their meals, hopefully well balanced and portioned to age. Snacks are more up in the air as is dessert. You can say snacks are ok or not ok or what they should contain, same with dessert. There are a million other ways to punish your child for misbehavior that still leave them fed. (Not that splashing on a water slide is misbehavior.)

I think Kate keeps track of every single dime in the production budget and makes sure she spends all of it. If she was allowed $500 for the Target trip, then she was darn well going to get exactly $500 of stuff, including buying herself new sheets and pillows to use up any extra. And probably tossing a few candy bars or packs of gum in the cart in the check-out line if there was a dollar or two left. She is a grifter. She can't help herself.
I think that's why she wanted to be a "producer". She wanted to sniff out every little thing she might be able to squeeze out of the production budget and make sure she got it. Why pay for new glasses for Aaden if she can get it paid for by production? Why not get a separate lobster for everyone to try if there's money for it? Who cares if it was wasteful? She's not paying for it! And she always makes sure they are extra groceries for her to pack up and take home. The greed is mind- boggling.
None of the kids had anything good to say about their mother in this episode. Mady even almost repeated Kate's exact words from the infamous "no fun things" scene. TFW excused all rudeness and bossiness as good qualities to possess, and that Mady was much like herself. Blind. Deaf. And dumb.
I remember the toddlers were given mini M&M's as rewards during potty training.
I think it was one for #1, and two for #2? Those things are microscopic.

I buy extra top sheets for covering beds etc. with the dogs and their dirt and shedding. I get them from the thrift store, or sometimes get lucky at Bed Bath and Beyond and find something on clearance.

At their age, I'm not sure they go to the dr. for an annual physical. Not like they are getting shots or involved w/ sports that require them. Since they've beeen in the same school, not sure if they would be required as they enter the "upper" grades. Maybe they only see a dr if they're actually sick. The one boy did look very thin and drugged and one of the girls (as seen in her bikini) thanks to her mother, looked almost chubby, which must be killing Kate.

Linking the incident with Kate nagging Collin about telling his sister her hair looked ugly was a good example to contrast how Collin was singled out, and Mady gets to mouth off without reproach.

Yep. Same here. Everyone sat at the big table, food was in bowls and we passed them around family-style. We took as much as we thought we could eat. If we wanted seconds, we took seconds. If we wanted dessert, we ate dessert. The beverage was always milk or water, never soda or tea. None of us grew up to be overweight or had issues with body imagine or became anorexic or bulimic.
Good PA Dutch food kept us all normal and happy!

Yeah, I don't think K8 will ever work a "regular" job again. Her singular goal for the past decade has been to make enough $$$ to be able to "retire" as soon as the kids are out of the house. I think she'll sell up ASAP, too, despite all her protestations that this will be the kids' and grandkids' old homestead in perpetuity. It will take too much money and effort to run that place once the set shuts down. She'll be going somewhere warm---hey, maybe she'll get a place next door to Doofus.
I think the only job she would consider at this point would be in TV. She fancies herself a producer, but that's probably too much work, and she is appallingly deficient on the creative front. I found that very odd too. First, Colin is getting in trouble for making an offhand remark about his sister's hair. Then he's getting in trouble for having a look on his face that he's getting in trouble. That poor boy can't win. Kate making fun of his face was just ridiculous. Sad but true (#113), I agree that TFW only has her eye on a TV career. And there is no way she would be hired as a producer on anything that she wasn't also involved with on camera. She is not creative, not a hard worker (unless you want her to clean out a fridge with toothpicks for 4 hours to avoid her kids), and not, in my opinion, particularly intelligent. WIthout those 3 qualities, she wouldn't be a good producer.
She's putting a lot of effort to be chummy with the fans. Compare that to the stretches when she's just disappeared for weeks. I think she's worried about the ratings. Or maybe she's just laying some groundwork
to score some birthday gift cards in March.

OT Stuff
Saw an incredible movie last night - "Hidden Figures" based on the true story of three African-American, brilliant woman who were employed by NASA during the early years of the space program. Best movie I've seen in a long time.
I may of heard of author Louise Penny here originally and also remember Hillary Clinton mentioning her as a favorite author. I've been working my way through the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. Most books take place in and around Montreal and her exquisite writing makes me want to jump on a plane and visit, even in the dead of winter!
That's it. Kate's still a monster of a mother and while it looks like TLC is done with her, I'm afraid I still think she's Teflon and will be on TV in some way for a long time.

and once-in-a-lifetime memories. Even with C's situation as dire as it is, she not only hasn't slowed her pace, but has doubled-down on the family fun-fun-fun.

When they showed the circus party clip, I was thinking are they going to show her making fun of her? They didn't. Even though the show was in its infancy, when TFW said what she said, it was closed captioned so you know exactly what she said.
She was accidentally caught on film saying this. She wasn't even looking at the camera. But what I find very telling is that closed captioning was used to show what she said.
It was mean and cruel. You talk like that about a elderly lady who is coming to your house everyday and folding your laundry and loving you children like her own grandkids?

I watched this last episode out of curiosity more than anything. The one thing that stuck out to me was the way she had that bird clinging to her, while Collin say mere inches from her and was pretty much ignored by her. The one she should have been clinging to and showing extra attention to was that child. She is a total failure as a mother.

Anyone else remember reading in Robert's book about how she wouldn't drive through Wernersvile? She'd take another route to go through a more affluent area.
I still wonder about the stories of her buying a condo close to where I live. It's an affluent area, which would appeal to her, plus it's close to Steve's house, Discovery HQ, and Whole Foods. She'd be in heaven. But I don't think she did. News travels fast around here. If she was hanging around, people would know. I've been trying to play catch-up on these posts and read the comment from someone who refused to call Kate "Kate" because it's Katie on her birth certificate, saying that she became Kate because it rhymes with eight.
Mady's middle name is Kate, not Katie. She was born before Kate Plus Eight was conceived (pun intended) and the younger kids hadn't yet been born. I would think, then, that Kate was known as Kate even before the twins were born.

She has been spotted a few times at the Whole Foods in Silver Spring (MD). I think the closest WF to her house in PA is a fairly long drive, so she probably stops in to the store when she's here for meetings at Discovery HQ, which is also in Silver Spring.
Milo might have been tweeting about the situation with Collin, but who knows? She thinks Kate fights this mighty, heroic struggle every single day. If I were one of Kate's kids, I would be irritated to know that my mother thinks it's a huge burden to raise me.
My friend Mary has 13 kids. Yeah, 13--I counted. And she acts like it's no big deal. In fact, she seems to really enjoy her kids and spending time with them and doing things with them. I think Kate exited out of the back of her house and then took the back or side roads. Maybe she drove something like the little utility vehicle to do so and then met somebody to drive her to wherever she was staying. I think she probably stayed in a motel.
Or better yet, she may have stayed in the apartment. Either of these guesses would have her avoiding the paps.
This is the #1 reason I can't stand that woman. She came from nowhere. An average person. But television came a callin and she jumped on board and became arrogant.

Jon & Kate (plus8) shopped all of their home movies to every outlet. (This was on Jon's old jongosselin6 page. It's now scrubbed. I used to use the 'way back' engine to copy and paste his posts,)
Kate was always this way, even as a teen according to her ex boyfriend (not to mention the first baby she so easilly conceived & aborted)
Discovery bit on their show proposal and she was off to her dream. She had those kids to get a TV show; she didn't have them with any thought as to how to parent them. Her entire focus was TV and money. Jon & the kids were merely her delivery device. She got what she wanted and if the show is finally (sigh) over, then the kids may be of no further use to her. Time will tell.
But, as every narcissist, the kids are a reflection of her. Since Colin wasn't reflecting properly, well, something needed to be done.
Yes she will eat her young if they do not flatter her self image. Mady is just like her & is a comforting reflection. If she can't get a bite on another show that includes the kids, then Jon just may get them because they will be of no further use to her.
(It's all about getting into the mindset of a narc, & I don't like staying in that space for very long.)

Likes Out Man alert! Milo posted a picture of her (alleged) husband. I guess she's been reading the convos here about how she always wants TFW to post family pictures but how she never posts any. She also posted a picture of some random house across a lake.
She has a lack of gratitude because she thinks what she has was owed to her (prosperity gospel).
What I dislike about her is forcing the kids to film for HER benefit. From Day One, she plotted and conceived the plan to have multiples and USE them to grift and make money. The result of her mental illness and lack of parenting is family dysfunction like Lord of the Flies. Maybe she allows the bad behavior for filming; I don't know. But it looks bad for sure and the impression left is not positive for her or the kids.
TLC stinks (#185), and even as the kids have grown and changed, and their individual interests, needs and preferences have become much clearer, TFW is still the sheriff, and still demanding all 7 of them film. And sadly, I suspect some of them have no clue what their specific interests or preferences are, as they've been tamped down or eliminated by their mother's toxic, all-consuming desire for fame and fortune.
That little exchange someone wrote about with TFW commenting on C's expression as she was going to scold him? Good lord, if those children are expected to monitor not only their actions but the freaking looks on their faces, I'm surprised only one of them has had to be removed from the home for additional help. My heart breaks for that

She smothers people to the point of suffocation. Then, they have to move (in the middle of the night) to get away from her.
Funny you mention about Collin getting warned about his expression. On Game Night, Alexis continually had an obnoxious scowl /pout on her face when things did not go her way and Kate said she "loved" that look. Anyway, it just goes to show how much she disliked Collinand he was on her shit list.
Again, I have to bring up Macy's behavior. There was apparent editing of cutting out Mady yelling at Kate. As a parent, I have to wonder what the parents of the girl who is their friend (who goes on the trips) thinks about the friendship. Obviously, Mady calls the shots in that three-way just as she steamrolls over Cara. Not a healthy thing to allow your child to be in a bullying relationship, and that is exactly what it is. Those parents must be star struck by allowing their daughter to be occasionally on TV even if she is nothing more than background filler. Telling that this girl is their only friend.

I did not get the impression from Milo that Kate won her battle with Jon, more like it is ongoing. I cannot see how she could possibly win when everything you need to know is aired in regards to Collin and the kids. I think Jon has a strong custody case, particularly if Collin is talking to the counselors.
@TLC stinks It might of been just me then.I don't know,the tweet felt like Milo knew of some private battle that Kate won and only she knew about it.Then again its milo,for all we know she thinks Kate parenting her kids is a war zone for Kate.
TLC stinks, I give Alexis a break sometimes. She seems actually fond of the animals and is interested in things like the landscaping they did and thanked the man who helped them. She was last pick for this game night and is always put with Kate for activities. Her tup sisters make it clear they dislike her and "mean girl" her out of their relationship both physically and by distancing themselves or saying inappropriate things about her, like she's an animal or crazy. Alexis well could still have issues which caused her to be expelled from K, but she just seems to me to be a loner in that family, a little immature and very different in interests from L and H. And talking about looks, H often gives her a look of disdain Kate does nothing about.
Formerly Duped (#194), I've always had a soft spot for A, too. WIth C gone, the boy tups A & J have each other. The girl tups H & L have each other. And of course the twins have each other. Poor A seems disenfranchised to me. I haven't watched the show for years -- just going by comments about the episodes here.

I think Collin bottles up his emotions all at once and then let's them all out when he's about had it. I also wouldn't be surprised if Collin told Kate about herself a few times haha. Joel and Aaden seem more on the "calm" side but who knows.

I don't think Milo knows anything other than what has been made public. She is just supporting Kate, guessing she "will" win her battle with Jon. I cannot imagine Kate sharing her personal info with Milo but I do see it with someone like pumpkinbottom.
It's bad enough when you are an outcast at school but in your own home? Terrible. Poor Alexis.
Alexis tends to gravitate more towards the boys anyway from what I've noticed.
