Recap: Kate Plus 8 "New Orleans, Here We Come!": 'Kate Making Excuses for Herself: But I'm an Exception to the Rules Because'

Coming up on Kate Plus 8, or as Mady has deemed it, "Kate Making Excuses for Herself: But I'm an Exception to the Rules Because." Baw! In later years, Mady will learn that is also known as narcissism. Kate has always wanted to..., and I'm already bored. I thought Kate didn't have help anymore. But there's Andrea, the nanny, front and center apparently drinking on the job with a big glass of wine.

Heir Kate is walking around with a clipboard and pen asking Andrea, as Andrea truly looks very busy and productive making lots of sandwiches, if she has done various tasks Kate could have done herself. Yes, Kate, I emptied the fridge. Yes, Kate, I ran the dishwasher. Oh, I should clarify, Kate phrases these tasks like did we empty the fridge? Well, if "we" emptied the fridge, then wouldn't Kate know it was done, and could check it off without consulting Andrea? What a piece of work she is, she can't even give Andrea full credit for doing the chores herself. I have never seen a nanny more checked out. Why is she still working for this woman?

This episode is structured like the fifty other episodes where they went on a trip, with about five minutes in the beginning about the chaos of packing. After all this time you would think packing would be pretty efficient and uneventful by now. Absolutely nothing remotely interesting happens. Kate is able to get in a dig at the boys though emphasizing how much they suck at packing. The biggest problem is they don't understand the difference between a play outfit and a go away outfit. Neither do I, so count me as a boy.

I get a kick out of this family always being demoted to the very back of the plane in some of the worst seats possible, right in front of the restrooms so it smells back there, it's busy all the time, and the seats won't recline. I have a feeling it's because unless you book way in advance, it's impossible to get so many seats together in any other part of the plane, but you know it chaps Kate's hide she's not where she should be in first class with the rest of the aristocracy worthy of life boats.

I'm glad some of the kids are able to make the best of the cameras. Several of them frequently make funny faces at the cameras and overall act silly when the red light is on. Good for them.

They start the next day at some cute outdoor seating and beignets. Oh god those are so good. The kids seemed to enjoy the experience and loved putting the powdered sugar on. I notice right away Cara and Mady are constantly whipping their phones out at this meal and showing each other things. For teens who don't have social media, they sure found a lot to look at. Heh. The producer asks what's with taking out the phones at the meal. Mady explains if this were a more formal meal of course she would put the phone away. I agree, this was really casual. It's just breakfast, and just beignets. And if Kate doesn't want the phones out she can tell them so. You have to pick your battles here, and if the phones are keeping the teens in good spirits, who cares? They can put them away at dinner. No one was really talking anyway, except Kate who threw out a few orders at the 12- and 15-year-olds, like don't wipe your hands on your clothes, instead use a napkin. Seriously? I somewhat feel for teens who are always under strict orders from parents over the stupid phones, if the parents don't make any effort to engage them in good conversation or otherwise make their time together interesting so they won't miss their phone so much.

And wouldn't you know it, they're using Snapchat, which is basically social media. Only, I guess they didn't get permission from the app to use the name, because Mady has to call it this app that does face filters. Heh. Snapchat makes this generation's teens giggle uncontrollably like my generation was giggling uncontrollably at the likes of that stupid game Mad Libs. Every generation has their thing.

Kate pretends she cares when the waiter comes over and announces the bill is "36 bucks". So that's how you pay? No check, they just announce the price at the end of the meal? Geez, this place is iPhone casual after all. Let's be honest, that's going on the company credit card. Kate strategically planned the sugar rush in the morning instead of the evening so they can get it out of their system early. Oh, I didn't realize the children were four years old.

You can tell there's not going to be much substance to this episode when they're already filling time by sticking in a bunch of unnecessary old clips about prior family photos. They go to some unnamed park and take a bunch of iPhone photos. A quick google on my part reveals this is probably New Orleans City Park, which houses the oldest tree in New Orleans at 800 years. That's a lot of botox. Why not share some of that interesting information instead of this dumb little side story about how it's hard to get a good family photo? Sigh. At least this time Kate isn't barefoot sucking a lollypop so hard you would think she was practicing how to get a promotion.

Commercials! That little tease of the Duggar show Counting On implying they might be having twins was so stupid. They're not having twins, are they? Yeah I didn't think so. Dumb.

Next up, etiquette class. Where would one begin with this doofus? Alexis is "sick" with the flu and isn't coming. I know kids can get sick suddenly, but is anyone not buying this? She was happy on the plane, scarfed down her beignets that morning, climbed all over the ancient trees. Now, seemingly a short time later, she has the flu? I'm going to speculate Alexis didn't want to film for some reason, had a tantrum, and that's why she's not here. Because I can.

Mark their instructor, who is wearing a beautiful fitted tweed jacket and maroon shirt, begins explaining etiquette. Heh, oh the irony, Kate is already finishing the guy's sentences, which in etiquette is more aptly called interrupting.

The kids are so mean to Alexis, in particular the girls, who almost all claim, in two separate couch interviews no less, that Alexis is basically a slob. Poor kid. At least she laughs at all this teasing, but at a certain point the ganging up on has got to catch up to her psyche.  It's one thing when one or two sisters do it, but I think it's quite another when you have four sisters against you. The only person who needs etiquette wasn't there, says Mady. Huh? I see Kate there.

The girls seem rather offended when Mark teaches the boys to escort them to the table and pull their chairs out for them. We can do it ourselves, they insist! Ha, the little Gloria Stienums. Naturally, Kate attributes this sudden stroke of "women's libbers" to her, Kate, since they see her doing it all alone. Drink! Slapping hand to the forehead. Women's lib is not about doing things all by yourself and never letting a man, or anyone, help you. Not mainstream anyway.  Is that what she thinks it's about? She's confusing this movement with a praying mantis. No Kate, not the same thing.

Mm, no, I'm gonna go ahead and attribute the girls' feminism to the media. Everything is attributed to the media.

Speaking of all this, why not take your girls to the Women's March, Kate? There was a local one right in Philly, and 50,000 showed up. I didn't go to the one here, but when I was on the 101 freeway this afternoon I drove under several marchers hanging out on the overpasses, and gave them several honks and fist pumps. Lots of my girlfriends went to either this one in L.A. or the one in D.C., and many who have daughters brought them. Kate should have gone. She just might learn something, and she and the girls could be part of history. It's always interesting how unengaged she is with everything, which is fine for herself, but it's depriving her girls of a mother who teachers their daughters to be part of the world instead of just their world.

Mark kisses up to Kate complimenting her on how good the children's manners are already. Speaking of sexist, why is he assuming their manners are all attributable to their mother? Dads teach manners too, as do grandparents and teachers. Hey, Mark, it's not 1879, and the kids have decent manners despite Kate, not because of her.

Mark next lectures that cell phones are a cardinal sin at the table. Generally, at a nice sit down meal, yes. The twins don't care, and justify whipping out their phone in case something cute happens and they need a picture. Ha, Aaden and Joel are so funny. They make fun of the twins and Kate for going through withdrawal tremors not having their phones.

By the way, Collin's not on the couch with his brothers, but he's on this trip. Hm.

Of course Kate feels she needs her phone at the table because she is a mother, which is where Mady throws out her new show name: "Kate Making Excuses for Herself: But I'm an Exception to the Rules Because." Perfection, Mady.

They dig into some delicious bread pudding and for some reason Aaden has developed an uncontrollable fit of the giggles. I love me a good case of the giggles. He is so flipping cute. Of course Kate is right there scolding him and blaming it all on the sugar. I blame it on just a darn great kid.

More sucking up from Mark about how impressive the kids were, again implying this is all attributed to Kate. Eh, they're not all that impressive. They're mostly just average, with average manners. So is this Matt's full time job, teaching people how to cut meat like ladies and gentlemen and scolding teens for having their iPhones out? Or did they just bring this guy in specially for the Gosselins?

Coming up, looks like they're doing some Hurricane Katrina clean-up. I know it's been a decade since the hurricane but I believe it that there's still work to be done. I went down there for a week to do some clean-up about 18 months after the hurricane and there was still plenty to do. The experience was one I'll never forget, but I also came away with a deep sense of frustration. I found the clean-up efforts disorganized and inefficient. Even though our group was working directly with major organizations like the Red Cross, there were many times where we were sitting around while they tried to figure out where best to send us. We also had to spend time fixing other people's botched efforts, like a playground built by Extreme Makeover that had major drainage problems. The whole thing was just so inept and sad, and it's really sad, though frankly not all that surprising given what I experienced, that ten years later there is still all this work to do. This is unacceptable governmental crawl, at, in my view, state and federal levels, but mostly local.

Okay, fine, I'll recap this comment. Kate has always wanted to do a building project with the kids. Good grief, then just go do it! You don't have to go all the way to New Orleans to get your fix. Look at Habitat for Humanity's web site and find a local weekend project and just go. She's just so helpless.

Day two. They head out to the historic ninth ward, which still looks pretty run down. The reality is much of the population just never came back. I still remember going there and seeing spray paint on the doors of each of the flooded houses, markings from disaster workers indicating what's been cleared from inside. Descriptions like two bodies, three bodies, etc. Chilling, devastating, preventable.

Oh wouldn't you know it, Alexis is miraculously feeling better from her sudden-onset flu. Did it ever occur to Kate that because Alexis is so teased about her manners by her siblings, she was embarrassed to be at an etiquette class and potentially face more ridicule and so quickly worked up some "flu" to stay behind? Poor kid.

They meet up with a guy and girl from Youth Rebuilding, which rebuilds houses just for teachers. That's awesome. Their comments about what's going on here are somewhat vague, which I found typical when I volunteered there, but I think they're saying they still have 40,000 homes left to go through in the 9th ward.

It's rare I agree with Kate, but she too, correctly, thinks it's absurd that there is still so much cleaning up to do here after ten years. Will she delve into why that is, where the failing are, or have any curiosity about this problem at all? Of course not. I myself have a lot of political thoughts about this issue I suppose I should refrain from sharing, but I'm going to anyway. Suffice it to say I do put a huge amount of blame for the snail's pace clean-up efforts on the local government and local disorganization, based primarily on my own experience spending a week there doing clean-up among locals. In fact as far back as 2006 the mayor was under all kinds of fire for the slow efforts even then. You can pour all kinds of money and volunteers at a community, but if they refuse to get organized and implement some efficiency, of course it's going to take ten or more years to get cleaned up. For one, if my organization, which happened to be my school, was made to wait hours and hours while they sorted out something for us to do, how many hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours have been lost over the past ten years because New Orleans couldn't get organized? For another, if an organization is going about a project all wrong such that it will have to be redone from scratch, why didn't someone notice or say something before it was too late? These third-world country clean-up efforts are an outright disgrace and nearly as tragic as the hurricane itself.

Kate apparently doesn't see the irony in her comment that kids can get tunnel vision and only focus on what they need and want. What a two-faced dolt.

They begin painting some interiors. Then, they move to a demolition project. Oh, those are fun! Too much explanation, not enough demo. Finally they hammer into the plaster and have at it. I'm a big fan of introducing kids to volunteer work in a manner that ensures they are having a blast. It lays good foundations for understanding how volunteering can enrich you just as much as those you are helping.

I like Cara's shirt, which looks like a college t-shirt but instead says "Kale." Good one. You can get it at Urban Outfitters.

Mady says all this volunteer work was fun. Cara picks lint.

Kate is such a freaking jerk. As they are wrapping up the work she thanks the guys from Youth Rebuilding, then says this is good in particular for her kids who forget how good they have it. Um, her kids are standing right there! I understand that's a major motivation behind engaging children in volunteer work, but it's mean to tell people, right in front of your kids no less, that your kids are ungrateful. Even if it were true, would you say that about your adult best friend if she were standing right next to you? Why people think it's okay to make rude and nasty comments about their kids simply because they are kids is beyond me. If you're concerned a child has a real problem with gratitude (one that goes beyond normal childhood development, too) one should speak to them privately about it, or involve a therapist if necessary. Oh, and I'll give Kate a hint. Due in large part to disrespectful comments like that, her kids have little motivation to be grateful. Why try to live up to the expectations of someone who has such little respect for you to begin with?

Also, the kids don't have it that good. They have tons of money and a comfortable upper middle class lifestyle and for that I have always said they should be grateful, but they have also lost their privacy for it, which many are probably going to grow up and resent if some don't already. But, it's important to Kate's daily propaganda the kids have it drilled into them their lives are amazing, mostly due to Kate.

The kids are at that age now where they can actually make a difference, Kate remarks. Yes, they were at that age seven years ago, too.

Kate claims they next ran into an "insectarium" that wasn't part of the plan because it rained that day. She, Kate, not production mind you, researched this all out on the internet. It's just absurd that Kate gives herself full credit for planning activities when there is an incredible amount of work that almost all productions large and small need to do to film in almost any place you can think of that Kate couldn't possibly know how or be capable of doing. Wait, so did they run into it randomly, or did she hunt it down browsing on the internet? Those two statements don't seem consistent. How does a production crew stumble upon something like this with all the permits and releases that are required to film? Why does this woman lie so badly? Why do I hurt my brain trying to make sense of her?

It's another bug place which I feel like they've done at least twice before. I have nothing against bugs but little about this is interesting or worth recapping. The whole time Kate's on the sidelines making this all....about...her, screaming and carrying on and threatening to faint. So just faint already and be done with it, at least then you would finally STFU.

Even Joel and Hannah admit they were really embarrassed by Kate's behavior. She's making a scene (and there's a whole camera crew there) of course they're embarrassed. The rest of the kids seem mortified too. Just ask other kids with mentally ill mothers, it's very embarrassing.

The bug that looks like a leaf is outright wild. It really looks exactly like a leaf. They head to the bug cafe where they are presented with a variety of dishes with bugs in them, like chocolate chip cookies with a cricket in there. More screaming and carrying on from Kate, meanwhile the kids are much more open minded and willing to try. Joel even liked the crickets. The kids call her overly dramatic and are even more embarrassed. Kate's skin is quite bad during this segment, obviously covered up by cakes of foundation. I don't know if that's stress or what.

Now they're holding a baby alligator? That's not a bug. I'm confused. They try to make it seem like this is the happiest day of Alexis's life, but you can tell she's 12 now and alligators don't do it for her quite the same way as they used to. Much like a twelve-year-old is not going to go ga-ga over a T-rex or firetrucks the same way when he was two. It's okay, Alexis.

The museum was a lot better than Kate expected, Kate remarks. Does Kate understand phrasing a comment like that is generally a rude thing to say? I really think her social skills at this point are about a two of 10. She doesn't seem to understand how rude and condescending some of her remarks are. Oh, sure, sometimes I think she's intentionally being an asshat. But other times I think she genuinely thinks she's giving the museum a compliment by saying they are better than expected. She just doesn't understand, and like Carry Ann Inaba, I'm fascinated.

Next up, a cooking class, which is also something they've done at least once before. I guess no one can say she doesn't do her part to reduce, reuse and recycle!

I like the canned New Orleans music they are playing. You know those moments where you have a flashback memory to something you haven't thought of in years? I just had one, to the obscure made-for-T.V. movie The Muppets of Bremen, which was a very clever play off the Grimm fairytale, only set in cajun country. I must have watched it a dozen times as a little kid. Jim Henson was so clever and such a master. Seven hells, I actually found it on Youtube! I love it.

They begin the cooking class by having a little crawfish pealing challenge. The kids enjoy it, and as per the usual Kate is freaking out and claims she has a stomach ache. You know, if you are going to be a cook, unless you're a vegetarian cook only, at least take some responsibility to have some awareness of how your animals get from the farm or wild to the table. Stop acting like Woody Allen and Diane Keaton trying to cook a lobster and be an adult.

z

They divide into teams and make a rue, some shrimp jumbo, and a colorful salad. Yum. At last they dig in. Collin really isn't saying much throughout this segment and never cracks a smile, he just stands around watching his siblings cook. Something is very off there.

Kate isn't exactly Giada De Laurentiis is she? "That had perfect spice and bite," she remarks. Lol, so descriptive. I'd love to know what she thinks bite means.

Finally they head to the fancy restaurant Galatoire's, which naturally Kate takes full credit for booking. Heh.

Aw, the kids look great all gussied up. The boys look like little Mormons in their white shirts and ties. Cute.

Way to suck all the fun out of a nice restaurant like this by making it a test of their etiquette class. Predictably, the kids immediately start ragging on Alexis, this time about how she eats the bread. Leave Alexis Alone!

The waitresses are being extraordinarily nice to the children, though I question if that's how they are to all children or if this is just because they're celebrities.

Mady and some of the other kids try snails and like them. Mmmm, I like them too. Or maybe I just like the butter and garlic they always drown them in and all the bread dipping I do afterward, heh.

At the end of the day the kids' manners and even Kate's really aren't that impressive. They have to constantly be reminded to wait until everyone is served, which really should be basic for kids by this age. They also frequently touch their food with their fingers, boss each other around, make dramatic and disgusted faces when they eat something they don't like, and blurt out rude things like "I hate mushrooms!" Kate's had years to help them correct these poor manners, this shouldn't be this much of a struggle.

They go around the table and talk about what they enjoyed the most. Collin very clearly says he enjoyed the cooking class and insectarium. He seems like a sweet, though frankly, sad little boy. It's hard to believe someone like him needs to be institutionalized. If he does, he sure hides his issues well.

Ha, there's Andrea at the other end of the table just downing wine and bread pudding and not really saying much. It's been a long trip, hasn't it?

Next time, it's so odd that they have never been to the Poconos! The problems of the one percent are often odd.

Good job, admin. Thanks. I don't know how you could sit through this nonsense. I didn't watch, and will never watch, but the recaps are wonderful.

I love escargot, but I agree about the butter, garlic and bread. I always want to say, "Escargot, please, but hold the escargot."

Admin, I was unreasonably excited to see this recap! Yay! Just loved it, and it was worth waiting for!

Bless your heart, you thought TFW was being sincere when she said she'd always wanted to work on a building project with her kids. She said that to make herself sound altruistic and philanthropic -- to kinda get partial credit for helping because she's WANTED to help. But we know without the cameras and the paycheck, that woman isn't helping anybody do anything. Now you may be saying, but, Flimsy, perhaps she helps all the time and just doesn't tell anybody? And once again I'll point out that bridge you may be interested in buying.

I noticed in this episode and others that Collin is almost alaways by Kate's side. When they were having breakfast this episode, he was sitting separate from his siblings, between Andrea and Kate.

Also, it's pretty obvious even without that, that Collin was struggling and was just dragged along but instructed to do nothing. He was there to sit pretty because the show is Plus 8.

I worry that Alexis must often feel so left out. With Aaden and Joel being close, Hannah and Leah, and then Mady and Cara. When Jon has the 4 usual kids (Hannah, Leah, Aaden, and Joel),and Collin still being away, that leaves the twins and Alexis. If the twins are doing their own thing, Alexis may feel left out. Wonder why she doesn't often want to see her dad? I hope in the future that all 8 can see their dad on a regular basis. They deserve it. Maybe when Collin gets better, he should live with Jon.

Ha! Good one!!
I don't think Kate dedicates herself to any other pursuit but fame.

Seriously, now that the "Plus 8" part is over, and the rhyme no more. TLC should just call the show, "Kate's Bucket List And I'll Drag My Kids Along Because I Know They're The Draw".

It is incredibly concerning that Alexis doesn't see Jon.
Girls NEED that fatherly love and validation. Without it, they are at risk to find it somewhere, anywhere else.
I can't believe Kate doesn't understand how unhealthy it is for girls' development.

RoxyHelen (3),

I've noticed that too. I've noticed that ever since the New England episodes (when Collin sat by Kate during a lunch scene). Also, during the Florida trip last season, she assigned a room with A, J and Alexis while L and H had their own room together. I really wonder what was going on with him that would make him stay glued to Kate's side during everything. The only time he sat away from Kate was during etiquette class.

Vermonter (#4), not sure if you're new here, but if you are, welcome!

I said almost the same thing a few days ago about A being the odd man out. Now that there are 7 kids at home, 6 of them can pair up easily. And now that I've read Admin's recap and see how A has been alienated and teased by her siblings, it makes me feel even worse for her. She seemed like such a feisty, joyful little sweet pea when she was a toddler.

I don't think we know if A doesn't want to see her dad, only that she doesn't see him. Her mother may be preventing her for some reason. Or she could be bribing A to stay home, and/or rewarding her when she does.
I put nothing past that woman, and her power to manipulate to get her own way. She is a horrible mother.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

RoxyHelen (#3), so poor C was always under the watchful (read: critical) eye of his demanding, punishing mother before he was sent away. What a stressful life that must have been for him. Even with is best efforts, I'm sure he managed to make mistakes and tick her off.

I bet that's what TFW meant when she claimed how hard this whole thing has been on her: she was forced to, well, you know, actually pay attention to the kid, and monitor all his bad behavior. Poor woman must've been exhausted. Good thing she got him out of the house, so she could love on her puppies in peace.

FlimsyFlamsy (8),

Jon said he gets Alexis sometimes. But I'm thinking its a lot less often now.

Also I noticed this during the game night episode. When the other kids (mainly Leah and Hannah) were getting on Kate for not letting them watch their recent episodes, Alexis was actually trying to defend Kate and saying something like "yeah we do. We watch in the family room" or something.

OT- I'm watching the Today show this morning and they're doing a story on marathon "cheating", where people get credit for finishing, or finishing with great finishing times, so that they can qualify for biggies like the Boston Marathon.

What do they do? Just like we suspect Kate did in LV.
They give their chip to someone else, or, they take transportation for the latter portion of the course, after they record a couple split times in the beginning.
Mostly, it's for bragging rights.

I still think Kate did not run the RnR marathon.

https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/so-apparently-kate-gosselin-cheated-in-the-rnr-las-vegas-marathon.2211216/

What really convinced me was Kate *bragging* that just popped her high heels back on the next day, like it was nothing.
Really?
She just couldn't help herself there.

That was back when she tried to trademark herself in heels, like she was born wearing them.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Tucker's Mom (#6), validation, shmalidation.
TFW needs to win, and she's won.

If anyone asked her if she rather be happy or right, she'd pick right every time. If she had invested one month after the divorce to somehow work out a system with Jon to co-parent, her life would be SO much easier.
She cut off her ex to spite her face. So it's awfully hard to listen to her pity party year after year when she possesses the tools to make things better, but refuses to use them.

It goes to show how hard Kate was working to keep the filming train on the tracks.
She had to get rid of something. Something had to give.
Filming *and* Collin became incompatible.
Hmm. What to do...what to do...

If I were one of the setuplets, I would be nervous around Mady. During the game show episode she snapped at Aiden and it was sad to see the look on his face. Then she said something about the little kids chewing their popcorn too loud. It was something like that, not exact quote. Kate and the twins should stop calling them the little kids. They are almost 13!

I wonder if TLC buys followers for Kate's Instagram and Twitter?

Kate needs to buy a cheaper home and send those kids to public school. She could be a nurse again. She needs to get those kids off of TLC!

Alexis was always one of my favorite tups and it saddens me she is left out sometimes. Does anyone know if this episode was filmed before or after Collin was sent away for treatment?

My dil, who is a TFW clone, can take the fun out of *anything*. So hard to be around that.

Whichever child she is picking on that day has to be glued to her side, just like C, so that she can watch with her hypercrtical eye to catch any (perceived) infraction instantly.

This episode emphasized more than usual how picked on and ganged up on Alexis is. While Kate is normally protective of other girls who get ganged up on, I don't recall ever seeing her tell the kids to back off from Alexis. She truly is bullied by her siblings, and her protector, her mother, not only doesn't seem to care but seems to AGREE with the treatment.

It occurs to me that when the girls visit Jon, at least it's more or less a break from the torment for poor Alexis. That could very well be a motivating factor why she stays behind.

I think Alexis is also subtly excluded: she has different colored sheets from her sisters, she wears different clothes while H and L wear similar ones at times ( but maybe by choice), she is always picked last or TFW is told kids do not want to be partnered with her or sleep near her at home or on trips (starting way back in the basement in E-town and also the Philly trip) and she is not their twin; her belongings like the birthday seat covers, lunch box etc are different; they call her mean names like animal and crazy, they cast mean or superior looks in her direction and she is stuck with Kate a lot.

Maybe her choices are different than L and H but they do exclude her and are mean to her. I always thought she was cute, spunky and genuine.
But I hate to see her be the next scapegoat child.

I saw part of this episode but I couldn't tell you much other than that breakfast thing with Collin. Other episodes I saw more fully but I also don't know what happened in them(because nothing happened) except for the disturbing things I pointed out along the way. How is she still getting seasons? It's the most boring, pointless show in history.

If Collin truly hasn't visited home, we are slowly approaching the one year mark of his departure. Other than something extremely severe(mental, behavioural etc) what justifies keeping a child away from home for a whole year? How are the sheeple not seeing that something is very wrong with the whole situation? Why are there people who still support this woman?

&&&&

It's a huge red flag for me, because I know that generally the trend in the mental health community is to get kids out of group homes and back in the family home as soon as possible. It is a huge red flag for me Kate is either refusing to take him back or the courts have told her she is not equipped to have him back. I'd put money on it.

As I have said before, California even enacted a law about it. As of Jan 1, most long term group homes are to be shut down. Short stays of a few months are permitted under very limited circumstances. Long term stays are highly regulated now, and many qualifications need to be met to permit it. The push is to treat children in the home with services as intensive as they need to be, either in a foster home, relative or their parents' home--not in institutions. We have realized that institutions are not a way for a child to grow and develop in a healthy manner.

Only in very rare, rare situations is a child permitted to be institutionalized beyond short time frames. We're talking serial killers, folks. It's a high standard. Come on, that precious little boy qualifies?

That information has been suggested several times before.

The thing is, just because a child hurts another child in the home STILL doesn't mean they must be set away. Lots of services and safeguards can be put in place to make sure the offending child is getting treatment. A child's contact can be constantly monitored during the day. Friends, family, and service providers all help. Children can be separated if they are being violent, while still coexisting in the home.

I've even seen parents do things like one sleep with one child and the other sleep with the other, and alarms on the doors if anyone tries to leave the room in the night, just to ensure nothing happens at night.

You know what, having a child with special needs is darn hard work. But it's called doing everything in your power to keep your family together no matter what. Kate should try it sometime.

Maybe her choices are different than L and H but they do exclude her and are mean to her. I always thought she was cute, spunky and genuine.

&&&

I like her a lot. Hannah and Leah are more prissy girls, not the kind of girls I hung out with growing up. I hung out with Alexis type girls.

Hannah and Leah have their hair curled, nails painted, and are fashionable. Alexis just throws on a tshirt and jeans and calls it a day. I think she's most definitely the prettiest of all five of the girls, yet doesn't seem to care about pretty, and I think that is another reason some of the girls resent her.

Alexis is who she is, yet Hannah and Leah seem to take extreme glee in pointing out all her supposed deficiencies. I do see shades of Kate in those girls in terms of deriving great pleasure from watching someone else fall flat on their face. In fact helping it along and pointing it out. They love doing it. It's disturbing.

The thing is, they're just kids. And that's where the parent needs to step in and stop it. At a certain point, they actually can't just work it out among themselves. Not when you have enough kids that they can band together and gang up. It's one thing when you have two or three sisters snipping and snapping, quite another when you have FOUR against you.

*******
My prediction is that Collin isn't returning to Kate and Kate will say it's for the safety and well being of the remaining kids.

Great recap! I love your snarky humor and your writing. I grew up in New Orleans until age 11. Bravo to Admin. for looking up the very well-known park (City Park) that Kate could not even bother to mention. I knew when I saw the trees that it was that park. We all have photos of ourselves as kids standing under those trees.

We only lived a few miles from City Park. In fact, one of my childhood memories was going to the City Park's driving range with my Dad to practice his golf swing. He would give us change and we would buy candy out of the machines and then play on the merry go round.

London Canal was one of the levees that broke during Katrina. My grandparents during my childhood had lived directly across the street from where the levee broke. Luckily my grandparents had sold there house before the hurricane. It was on Pratt Drive. And we lived about two blocks from there. My childhood home of course was flooded and torn down just a few years ago.

Just curious Admin. why you would want Kate to join PA's Women's March when it was so anti-Trump? I heard Ashley Judd's speech and was horrified. Talk about hateful.

Unfortunately for some people the march developed into a hodgepodge of liberal causes and fringe issues, swaying away from the central message.

The overall message was supposed to be peace, love, and support for women. I don't see why both parties can't embrace that. In fact it's been wildly reported that several pro-life conservative women sincerely wanted to march, peacefully, about issues important to them, but were turned away. What a shame. That's not how it was supposed to be. I really couldn't' go because I had things to do on another part of town, but even if I could go I'm not sure I would--- to be frank, I was worried for my own safety. Not from most of the marchers, but from the outliers. I supported the cause on its face.

Finally, I also support free speech no matter what your views are. I doubt I would have marched against Hillary if she were elected, but I want to be able to be supported and permitted to if I wanted to. I thought that overall, the marches were quite beautiful.

Leslie (#20), I enjoyed your childhood reminiscences. Look how you fondly remember so simple as your dad giving you change for candy. Just goes to show how little things can be meaningful. But TFW only cares about the golden platter stuff.
And her children are missing out.

So TFW didn't even mention an 800-year-old tree? The nature lover who wept when an entire grove of trees were felled (not) on
her property from a storm, and bemoaned her loss of privacy? I guess the story editors stopped trying to stick that edumacational stuff in the scripts once she claimed to know FDR was on Mt. Rushmore. She probably would've just said that tree was a waste of wood.

This is taken from the Womensmarch.com website. The below is the first paragraph from their Mission Statement. I have to disagree with you, Admin. The March was the day after the election for a reason. They all hate President Trump. MSNBC (liberal station) will not even address him as President Trump.

"The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us - immigrants of all statuses, Muslims and those of diverse religious faiths, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, survivors of sexual assault - and our communities are hurting and scared. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear."

If anyone asked her if she rather be happy or right, she'd pick right every time. If she had invested one month after the divorce to somehow work out a system with Jon to co-parent, her life would be SO much easier.
____
What's clear from the petition that Jon filed in one of his custody cases (the link to it was posted last thread, I think it might have been 2012?) is that there WAS indeed a pretty detailed road map for visitation and general custody matters in place as of the divorce in 2009. But I think after Jon sued her for primary custody (once? twice? I don't recall) in 2010 during DWTS and lost, she was emboldened to do as she liked, especially since she was able to resume filming since he'd also lost the TLC case (and was gagged thereafter for three years). When the show was ditched in 2011, I believe she became a bit more liberal with visitation (God knows she didn't want any extra time with the children if the cameras weren't rolling), but when in 2014 she got CA and TLC came back, all bets were off. So the whole custody situation has been a mess almost from the beginning, and Jon being gagged and having lost early on only made things worse for him and the kids.

I watched part of the Women's March on the news and has really shocked to see a speaker wearing a shirt with (heart) abortion all over it. What?????? I would never interfere with another woman's right to choose, but to express love for abortions was appalling. Women have abortions when they are necessary. I hate to think that any woman would say she loves them. Wow. I turned it off.

I wonder--if C is okay to co e home, and Kate refuses to let him return, how would that work as far as insurance is concerned? I can't imagine insurance would pay for institutional care for a child who does not need it. Unless, perhaps, Kate has given up custody of him, maybe made him a ward of the state? That sounds extreme, but I can see her doing it if she doesn't want to be bothered with him. This is Kate we're talking about.

I looked back in the archives and found the cruise tweet I was thinking about. Kate tweeted, "I'm getting all teary eyed hoping2meet so many of u in 1 place". Translation: I'm getting all teary-eyed at the thought of all the money I can get from my fans.
The same day she tweeted, "thought for today: I'm thankful for TRUE friends!" Translation: if you give me your money, then you're a TRUE friend. If you don't go on my cruise, you're not my friend.

There was a small but decent sized march in Reading if Kate was interested. Of course she would need her policeman friend to figure out how to drive there. (Reading is actually not that hard to get around.)

I feel sad for Alexis after your recap. I only had two siblings and I still often feel bad for the way I was the odd one. My siblings and my parents would tease me for my need to find water fountains and bathrooms everywhere we went more often than them (an early sign of my illness). I was not very physical, read lots of books, was just different. It must be worse for Alexis. Poor kiddo.

They should not be called little kids any more. They are big kids, almost teenagers. It's part of helping them grow up to treat them like their real age. Manners are a constant teaching issue with kids and teens. You have to keep at it. But the adults have to model etiquette. You don't get to have your phone just because you're the adult. You won't die if you put the damn phone away for an hour. Plus if you don't want to eat crickets, say no thank you; don't make faces and throw fits.

New Orleans does have problems still because of the hurricane. What they don't need is helpless Kate. She is so ignorant. All of these activities would be better if they were just the kids, not Kate.

(yes, I know they were magnanimously "granted permission" to march)
The march was quickly taken over by the deep pockets of PP and NARAL, and made monolithic.
I'm for choice, and women need protection and to never resort to crude, back-alley abortions ever again. But detaching from New Wave Feminists was sadly emblematic of the division in our country.
I'm pretty sure I heard that the pro-life feminists spoke on stage?
I hope so. They should have been embraced and invited to stand shoulder to shoulder.
Alas, the predictability of the separate but equal that came to pass took the wind out of my sails.
Women should be equal, not some more equal than others.

I binged on "Bates Motel" season 4 last night.

Vera Farmiga does a great job in the role of an insecure, controlling (yet out of control) mother. There was a scene last night where her grown son tells her he's moving. Fury darkens her face, she grabs a frying pan, slams it down on the stove, grabs a bag of frozen corn which breaks when she throws on the counter, corn pours out all over and she yells something like, "Have fun LEAVING me."

I couldn't help but see parallels between Kate's meltdowns and freak outs and Norma Bate's.

If TLC is contemplating another season for Kate and they need a name change, how about (B)Kate's Motel?

I was born in 1955 so as a young kid I could buy a Hershey bar (everybody knows what I am talking about) for literally 5 cents. Yes, folks I just looked it up. In the late 60's it doubled in cost to 10 cents. So of course when we asked Dad or Mom for spare change back then we could really come home with a bag full of candy bars and penny candy. And those were the days when penny candy was a penny.

I am so glad I was not raised spoiled. My parents had 5 kids (plus a miscarriage) in 6 years. My Dad started as an accountant and then finance dept. manager for a very major oil company. (He retired head of the entire finance dept.) We grew up in a very solid middle class neighbor. It wasn't lower middle class and it certainly wasn't upper. But with 5 kids who all went to Catholic school money was tight. My Dad even kept bakery books as a side job too. In addition from the day they were married until the day he retired, he put 10% of his gross income in the company's matching retirement fund. My mother would beg him when we were little and money was tight to please stop contributing to it for awhile but he never did. And I am glad he didn't.

To this day, I can say I have always lived well within my means. I thank my parents' example for that. And I can do it because I was not spoiled at all and nor was I raised with entitlement issues. I thank God for the way my father and mother raised us.

With a caveat that from what I read and saw most protestors were really great, I can't stand when people speak for everyone, such as a woman's march to speak for all women. You do not. And I would even suggest that the arrogance that Hillary supporters adopted that OF COURSE women would hate Trump caused them to take it for granted they would beat Trump on "women's issues" which directly resulted in losing the election.

Part of women's rights is understanding and respecting that we are diverse--not all women support abortion, not all women are democrats (in fact, a minority are, only 42%), and not all women voted for Hillary (ironically, the same percentage, 42% backed Trump). Not all women agree on what women's issues even are and where we stand on them. And that's great, but it needs to be respected.

That's a lot of freaking women who don't want to march to take down the current administration.

I've heard some people refer to yesterday's march as the left's temper tantrum. I think that's unfair, but at the same time, you can't turn women away if the idea is to march for women. And yes, it really only served to give conservatives more ammunition when people go wonky at these things. All in all though it was historic, and it would have been neat to go if you could regardless how you feel, if only to promote a dialogue with your kids and others. Kate should have gone and taken the girls, they would remember it forever.

I agree. The headlines I am reading on the major news sites go like this..."Thousands march against Trump across the US and beyond"

That is the way many see it, and I don't think a kid, even one who is 12 or 16, is mature enough to be able to comprehend it as an adult would, and I don't think that this will mean they will be ignorant and self-absorbed. If they turn out to have no self-awareness with a sense of entitlement and greed it's because they have learned this having seen their mother in action their entire lives, not because they weren't given the facts on the protest.

The most long-lasting and devastating effect from being raised by a narcissistic parent is the sibling relationship in adulthood.

The children have been pitted against one other for so many years that some never overcome that. In my family, the "golden child" is still hated by siblings in their 50s and 60s. It took me until my late 30s to realize that the "golden child" actually had a much harder life than the rest of us, and continues to feel guilty and responsible for all of us.

Our parents are both deceased, but that's done nothing to quell the divisiveness, which has led to the next generation not even knowing one another.

It's a damn shame. A narcissist is a disease that infects and kills the family tree.

Jamesvader (56): "What kind of special help does he need to be sent away for a year?"

))))))))))))

We don't know what kind of special help he needs, and if they do film a birthday episode, she absolutely doesn't need to fill us in just because the viewing public expects or wants her to do so. Kate will do as Kate will do.

As to his special needs. If he is gone this long, it would appear that this extends just beyond a minor behavioral issue. Just because he's been seen in episodes as being laid-back, quiet, a reserved child doesn't mean that there aren't deep mental issues that needed to be addressed before he is allowed back into that home. We don't know what was and is going on with him.

Locally, there was a adopted child who was so quiet and easy-going, appeared to be very well adjusted, got along well with his parents and siblings, a really nice kid who one day just snapped, stabbed his sister with a box cutter and murdered his mother. Everyone was shocked...I mean in total disbelief. From where did this rage come?

This by no means is to say that Kate's son would commit any act of violence, but if professionals found that he could have been a danger to himself or to others, then he very well couldn't yet be released from that facility. If he is not making progress, or treatment hasn't yet been satisfied, then Kate will not offer any explanation as to his progress, nor should she be required or expected to do so.

I would suggest the "Shiloh" series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, "Because Of Winn-Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo (who wrote that "Desperaux" book she pretended to read to her bewildered children in the St. Jude's episode), and "A Dog's Life: Autobiography Of A Stray," by Ann M. Martin, who wrote the "Babysitter's Club" series.

For a kid like A who seems to be an outsider (or at least has been labeled one by her family), reading fiction could be a tremendous source of joy and comfort. It would help her build her vocabulary, and navigate her changing social world. And it's a skill she, and any child, can use her whole life. Oh, and no golden platter required -- just a library card.

Hoosier Girl (#58), what a heartbreaking story. I'm sorry for what you and your siblings went through. It's so sad that TFW can't see past her nose to do what's best for her kids. As you said, those sibling relationships are the ones that will carry on when she passes, and they've already been poisoned by her mind games.

This is why kids should march in a protest that clearly was aimed at the new President, even if the intention was not so? I don't know. I have mixed feelings about it. I am not so sure I'd let my daughters march in this. It's something to think about. If I were Kate, I don't think that I would have encouraged my kids to participate. She would be damned if she did, damned if she didn't.

"In a global exclamation of defiance and solidarity, more than 1 million people rallied at women's marches in the nation's capital and cities around the world Saturday to send President Donald Trump an emphatic message on his first full day in office that they won't let his agenda go unchallenged."

"We want a leader, not a creepy tweeter," some marchers chanted in Washington."

"Around the world, women brandished signs with slogans such as "Women won't back down" and "Less fear more love." They decried Trump's stand on such issues as abortion, health care, diversity and climate change. And they branded him a sexist, a bully, a bigot and more."

"The Women's March on Washington appeared to accomplish the historic feat of drawing more people to protest the inauguration than the ceremony itself attracted."

You think he gets a choice at his age? Really? He can just tell the administration at whereever he is - "oh hey, don't really feel like going back to live with my mom" and they would go along with that? I, in no way, find that plausible.

I can see something like that happening. IF, C's abuse allegations against TFW were verified and IF his doctors and the court felt it was in his best interests to not return to TFW, I can see them respecting his wishes and finding another suitable home for him - hopefully with his father. And, IF that's what is happening, it's very possible that it's taking awhile for the red-tape of home checks, meetings, hearings, etc to take place before he can be settled somewhere else. My fingers are crossed that he will not return to TFW's custody and will instead be reunified with Jon and live with him.

*****

I think she kept C close to her out of control and intimidation, pure and simple. To see him always sitting next to her, looking cowed, sitting on his hands, almost like he was afraid to move was shocking and heartbreaking. It looked to me like he was afraid and had been threatened to behave, plus as C's filming time went on it looked more and more like he was 'mis-prescribed' or over-medicated.

I think TFW is so insecure (among other problems, of course!) that her only way of coping is to try to control everything around her and since she doesn't understand moderation her control is over the top and abusive. What a miserable life it must be to have to try to control everything. And, to think that if she'd get some help, how much happier and less stressful her life and children's could be, too.

Sherri (#71), I think that was a great comment. TFW has shown herself to be a control freak in myriad ways. She sure revealed a lot about herself when she declared, "I'm in charge, and that's never gonna change." What a nightmare for her that those 8 babies grew into, what will be in a few short months, 8 teenagers. It must scare her silly. And if the show ends, I won't be surprised if she starts dumping at least a few on their father's doorstep.

Remember when TFW punished little J (or, as she so sweetly dubbed him, "the forgotten tup") and growled, "I don't even want to hear you breathe?" That poor child had been in the NICU, where he probably needed help to breathe. And some of those babies don't ever make it home.

I think she keeps the house hot, like a greenhouse. lol There have been episodes where they showed snow on the ground and the kids were inside wearing shorts and tank tops. I never, and still don't do that and neither have my kids, but to each their own. I wonder what her heating bill is like though.

What raises red flags for me in this protest/march is the timing of it. Had this been done at any other time, I'd could understand why this was done...joining a march asserting the rights of all women to equal pay, against sexual harassment, freedom of choice and voice, and so on. What I saw and heard from those attending and celebrities was an anti-Trump movement, and a demonstration against the new administration under the guise of the support of women's rights.

Yes, FlimsyFlamsy, can you imagine how consuming it must be to always feel the need and burden to try to control everything? Gawd, what an awful way to live. I'm sure you're right about her being scared about having all 8 be teenagers - that must keep her up at night. It's no wonder it seems she never enjoys, nor appreciates her time with them.

Thinking about her control issues, you can sometimes see it in her physically when she's about to lose control. And, then when it bubbles over and she crumples shaking into a ball of tears like during the tower jump in NZ? or parasailing on a recent episode. SMH

Her supposed 'fear' of heights has been discussed here before and many question her saying she's conquering her fears (which I agree she's never done) but I don't think it's fear (as in a true phobia) for her (which is why she's never 'conquered' it). I think it's about loss of control. After those few times when she's given up complete control to someone else we saw the resulting meltdowns of relief. The twins said she does similar things when she's getting upset, too. It must be an awful feeling, but I don't have sympathy for TFW because she puts herself in the completely avoidable situations to prove something to her viewers?, to herself?, to film a tv show. Ha, enough of my armchair amataur psychoanalyzing of TFW tonite. LOL

I have always remembered the episode when Collin bought Kate the mama bear and cub. The authentic way he thanked the vendor for giving him a good deal was heartfelt. Collin was always clamoring for Kate's affection. He had a special place in his heart for his mother, unlike the others it would seem. I think he could be a 'sensitive personality'. This is a legitimate condition that you can read about. Instead of labeling people shy, they are now considered sensitive personalities and it is very interesting reading. Collin had a special connection with his mommy and Kate never nourished it. Different personality types require different ways of dealing with our children. We are all individuals and we have different needs. I believe Collin really had a different connection to Kate and she ignored it. I have often thought that when he gave her that gift, it made her uncomfortable because she didn't want to acknowledge that this one son had that connection with her and she didn't want to appear that she was singling him out. Unfortunately, she is incapable of showing love in a normal, maternal way. How can she sleep at night knowing this 12 year old son of hers is sleeping alone every night in some place that isn't his home???? What she has done will scar him for life.

It makes me so sad to think of C. being shut off from his family for so long. I just don't see Kate willingly allowing him to return if she can help it. Remember when she talked about him helping the farmer next door and how much he loved it? Why not use the opportunity to help him be productive? The farmer-neighbor seemed willing to let C hang around and help out. Kate has lots of unused land. Why not let C. learn about farming from the neighbor, and perhaps start growing some crops at home? He could grow organic vegetables, which would lower Kate's grocery bills. She could get a lower property tax bill. C would be able to learn and develop a skill, and it would give him something productive to do. He could eventually have his own vegetable stand like Farmer Henry. It would be great for him. But it's too much work for his mother, who would rather film her kids and take the money. The kids are getting bigger. She needs to start thinking of a Plan B. Too bad C isn't a priority, or he could help turn that property into a lucrative investment.

C handed her that bear (I didn't watch -- only judging by others' comments), he may as well have handed her a rubber chicken. She had no concept of his individual connection to her, nor any interest in acknowledging it or even understanding it. He's part of a 6-pack to her. Or, as Vanessa explained, merely a piece of her property.

Colin has an abusive mother who refuses to participate in the process but also will probably sue if you try to send him to his father's. He may not even be in the institution any more. He could be in a group home or foster home. To me, his being gone this long lends credence to the state having removed him and taken custody. On the other hand, she could be using her money to convince the docs to keep him. I don't know how exactly but rich people manage to do things the rest of us can't. Either way, Colin is never going to be allowed home by Kate. We may learn nothing more until he is 18.

Paper plates and CC (99),

No I agree that it made her uncomfortable but not in a way where she didn't want to show individual attention. Just in a way that she just doesn't feel a connection with Collin which is why she said what she said about the gift. It was kind of like why would he pick such a gift if they don't have a special connection in the first place (ugh this was so hard to type out because it makes me upset). And that's really sad.

Even during the Mother's Day special two years ago when he gave her a card he made, all she said was "thank you" and Collin didn't even go and hug her. He just sort of looked at her and walked away (with a smile though). I really feel sorry for him because like Paper plates stated, he's always wanted that special connection with Kate. Now... If Hannah or Leah were to give her a gift as such, do you think she would've brushed it off? (We know the answer).

I think the other two boys were never really "momma's boys" as I never really heard them crying for mommy when they were younger. But Collin did. But Kate always seemed to push him away.

She seems to require so much affirmation. Remember when she said Mother's Day should be celebrated once a month?

Women's lib is not about doing things all by yourself and never letting a man, or anyone, help you. Not mainstream anyway. Is that what she thinks it's about? She's confusing this movement with a praying mantis. No Kate, not the same thing.

Kate is teaching her girls misandry, plain and simple. If a man offers to open a door for you, you say thank you. If he pulls you seat out, you don't protest that you can do it yourself.
That wasn't the point.
Further, those kids have watched Kate be escorted around by Steve for 10 years.
She couldn't even drive herself to a local radio station. Had to get a man to escort her there.
Good luck finding a man, I say. Kate is teaching them that men are useless, ineffectual and nothing more than there to serve a purpose.

That's not women's lib, feminism or equal rights.

I think it would be beneficial to him to help him find something to do that is productive, that he could take pride in, and that he could learn skills that he could build a future upon. She can't institutionalize him forever, can she?

I guess I just can't fathom what was so wrong that she thought he needed to be locked away long-term. Sure, Milo insists that it's temporary, but as time goes on, she's going to have a harder time selling that fantasy to anyone. I think he is going to be away for as long as Kate can manage to keep him away. She does not want to be bothered. Banishing people who don't know how to help her is as normal as breathing to her, and it makes no difference if it's a friend, family, a husband, or a minor child. Helping C develop skills and be productive is of no interest to her. It takes too much effort. Her only interest in him is in his marketability. It's tragic.

It is a crying shame that none of the tups were not allowed to participate in sports. Jon could of coached a soccer team with the boys and girls on the team. He was team captain of his school team that won the state championship!

I have always thought the reason that Cara was allowed to do lacrosse is because she told her mother if she couldn't do lacrosse with her friends, she would not film. Mady got to do something else.

They are 4 years older than the tups and the tups hadn't learned how to blackmail their mother yet.

Just think how many free books TFW missed out on. 480.

This fits her criteria, M.O. Free stuff until it is not needed anymore or it couldn't help her anymore, then throw them in a yard sale that is filmed that you are getting paid for.

"I think Kate is finding it harder now that the 8 (7) kids have different interests and tastes- she used to just get the boys Lego sets and the girls dolls or the like. They are no longer a six-pack who all like the same meal and rate it 10/10, or wear her choice of identical outfits, and do exactly the same thing at the sane time and have the same routine as one another. Different cards? I doubt she even gave them one, or maybe the TLC funded parties are the limit of her affection to these individuals who are growing up- fast"

****************************************************
Or how about when they were younger and she put ALL 8 in gymnastics class when Leah was the only one who expressed interest?

I think it was mentioned a long time ago that Kate is probably too lazy to shuttle each kid to different after school activities. Also, I think it gives them a bit more freedom and one step closer to them being like "I don't want to film anymore".

Tucker's Mom (#78), somehow the situation with C is reminding me of when TFW once said something like, "Either you stand with me or against me." And we remember her telling the kids if they stayed on that camping trip they were having so much fun at, they would be Palins and not Gosselins.
******
So agree. You are either with Kate, or you are her enemy.

******************

At the E house, they were getting ready to leave to go somewhere and one of the tup girls didn't want to wear a certain pair of shoes and TFW was in pre-meltdown.

Jon and TFW were in the garage and he said let her wear them, we will get going quicker or something like that and her bristles, quills rose up in position on her back and she told Jon, either stand with me or against me!

He said let's go in the house and he followed her in. I don't remember what happened after that. I don't know if it is connected with the infamous clip of her in the van in the driveway and she kept hollering at Jon barking orders and she tossed shoes out onto the driveway.

Jon said to himself walking back to the house, the ? has left the building.

Formerly Duped (#103), in one episode TFW took the kids shopping and she asked J if he liked basketball. The kid was about 11, and she didn't know if he liked basketball or not? His teacher at school probably knew. His babysitter probably knew. And I bet his dad knew. But the provider of his golden platter childhood didn't know.

Did the kids ever get a basketball hoop to play with? With that many kids, they could play hoop games for hours.

I love how Gladys is trying to push TFW to watch that dog movie, so she can share that she cried buckets of tears. I don't care if TFW floods the neighborhood. She has shown again and again that she is NOT sentimental about her own children. If there was no other evidence, her cavalier attitude about her son's disappearance tells you all you need to know. So her tear production is no barometer of her sensitivity or humanity.

There is no LOGIC in his relationship with her or the family. Most of what he writes really should be in a personal message to someone you personally know and show support everything he writes is so inappropriate to write to a stranger who thinks she is a celebrity star and he believes it too! I guess I have to have logic in things and it drives me bonkers when there is NO LOGIC. Those kids, except for Cara, seem to not participate in much. I agree it's about availability for filming. Kate would just get the nanny to do the driving if it is about her laziness. Why Cara is special? Because it's her demand or she will not film, IMO.

It's unusual for kids that age to not have outside activities. Even parents on a budget manage because you want your kid to be self-confident, learn new skills and become a social person.

PA Dutch Mom, I did not make the comment that the tups do not participate in sports. How would I know? I just said "it appears" they don't do much because Cara is the only one who does sports. How do we know that? Because Kate herself was pictured at a game and Cara has mentioned lacrosse. The others never mention anything nor have they ever been pictured in a local sports jersey like Cara. As a parent of just two, I ran around to practices, games, and recitals ALL the time. There just is no evidence by photo or mention that Kate does that. If she was being pulled in eight different directions after school or on weekends, there would be evidence of that. Cara is the exception and I think she's old enough to make that demand because it's important enough to her. She has not been forbidden from talking about it; she did mention it in the Sweet Sixteen episode whereas Mady said she does nothing but come home from school. Kate has done everything to expose her kids to the public but she protects them when it comes to sports participation? I don't think so. Not the case with Cara.

I was just repeating other posters' speculation about Collin. At a residential treatment program, I believe the average stay is 3-9 months. The goal is to transition the child back home and into the community as soon as possible. Let's face it; these facilities need the beds. Sometimes if the child cannot return home, then they transition to a residential home group situation. Because Collin has indicated to his counselors abuse by Kate which we last heard was being investigated by CPS, he will not be returned home if his allegations are found true. This is where Jon could be his salvation, if Collin has not been totally alienated against his dad. I see no situation where Kate will have him back home, even if the CPS investigation finding is deemed unfounded. She is glad to not deal with him and it's been sadly true by the filming and her comments on IG. We'll see eventually what happens because if Collin does return home, she'll trot him out for a photo op. We'll immediately know.

Agree.
I think Kate came to the conclusion that the 6-pack were too many to get her individual love and attention, so she never really even tried. I think she decided if she gave one tup sports, others would want a hobby/instrument/sport/club, and she decided that was impossible.
I don't believe Kate would be a real soccer Mom and not brag about how great that made her, and how tired she was, and how hard it is.
I just think it was a non-starter, so by all evidence, the kids have played amongst themselves instead of being given chances to develop any number of individual skills outside of the 6-pack.

Hey, I'm glad to be proven wrong. If one day, we find out that the girls and boys were in Scouts, or that they took serious ballet or gymnastic lessons, or have been on soccer and baseball teams, for years, I will be overjoyed.

With your typical little mind you pick out little bits and pieces and fabricate something stupid to satisfy that little brain The original comments was to illustrate that viewership has nothing to do with how Kate raise her family. As in my case I was not aware of her show until it was off the air. Also how many people these days watch any shows on it's original airing date. There are options out there like YouTube. Netflix etc. So viewership is not an issue. I would suggest when you want to comment on something take the whole story into consideration, use your brains to digest it and it will hopefully prevent you from looking like a complete fool, because every time to open your mouth you are convincing me more and more how immature and childish you are.

"[V]iewership has nothing to do with how Kate has raised her family." This guy is truly a prince among morons. I live outside of US so I can actually control that no one posts my kids online, our schools/preschools here do NOT post such content online and hopefully that will never change. Whoever knows my kid(s), it'll be because they've met them in person. Not saying I judge peope who do post pictures of their kids(though I do judge oversharers I'll be honest), this is just my choice.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

For those of you still on the fence about TFW perhaps wanting to protect her kids' privacy by not telling about their extra-curricular activities, I offer this memory: on J&K+8, TFW showed pictures of her children posing with their BOWEL MOVEMENTS
to commemorate their first #2 in their potties.
TLC was kind enough to cover the actual, um, evidence, but TFW was adamant about showing the pictures and sharing those memories. The same woman who was upset when she claimed her trees fell down because they gave HER privacy.

TLC stinks said...

I would never post my kids' pictures on social media, but plenty of people do as Kate. Just saying Kate is one of those posters and whenever she claims to be concerned about her kids' privacy, what she does is different from what she says. If she could freakin' film her kids at school, she would. When she talks about privacy it's because she not allowed. For instance she says there is a court gag order, but if there was not, she'd be in the tabloids and on shows letigating her custody battle with Jon. Jon is the same.

Just the fact that she would do a "People" interview on Collin proves she does not put her children's privacy first. There was no reason to say anything and when fans noticed he was not on the show, either say nothing or say he is no longer filming. Period. Instead she sacrificed her son's privacy by making it about her and her trials as a single mother with a deadbeat dad.

TLC stinks (#165), and I still say TFW was evasive about C's actual diagnosis because she was afraid she'd be hounded by other moms and dads facing the same issue with their own children. If she's going to spill all the details, she'll need a book deal and a lecture tour to make it worth her while. Would it surprise any of us if she was writing one right now? Can't you just see a brave, stoic TFW on the cover, extensions blowing in the wind, as she contemplates how hard this has all been for her? Or, what the heck, maybe just another grinning chimp photo, as she lost one child but gained 2 new ones?

Let me be clear: I do NOT want or need the details of C's challenges. But as TFW said, she made their lives our business, and I am sincerely concerned about the well-being of this child who seemed so kind, loving and helpful.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Kate posts everything else about her kids, it's glaringly absent that we never see the kids in any other context but shlepping around the house. The fact that other posters wouldn't post photos of their kids doing activities is completely irrelevant. Of course you wouldn't or at least not excessively, the point is that Kate is the last person who gives a moment's thought to oversharing. She doesn't care.

Another big clue is all the filming they've done. A sports team or other activity isn't going to tolerate excessive absences. Not once did anyone say sorry Joel is not here he's at soccer, Leah can't make it she has piano lessons. It's not believable that there is never once an interruption to successive days of filming that occurred all this year.

Such occurrences happened all...the....time on shows like Little People Big World. The children were clearly engaged in their community like normal children. If they were filming and a kid had soccer, the kid went to soccer, not filming. Why does this never happen with the Gosselins? Gimme a break. If they do involve themselves in anything outside hanging out at the mansion, it's not very frequent.

Admin (#168), it seems some of the filming takes up entire weekends, which may not only preclude them from participating in sports or classes, but weekend social activities. That kind of stuff is crucial for their emotional development. If Johnny asks you to come to his laser-tag birthday party and you say yes, and you can't wait, and suddenly you can't go because Mom says you have to film? You're disappointed, but you can't beg Mom to let you go, because that simply won't happen. And Johnny may stop asking you to do stuff, because you always have to cancel. You can't tell me with 8 kids in the mix, that every single one of them has zero plans those weekends that they film.

Of course this is not life-and-death stuff! But for someone who claims to be SO obsessed with "making memories," it's too bad that TFW seems to think the only ones worth making involve just the 9 -- whoops,
I mean 8 -- of them. She's trying to keep them clannish, but that can't last forever.

Kate's 'helpers' must know 'how to help her' with all those notes and clipboards plus her barking out orders.(except unless staged, the boys make lunches and do the garbage/recycling)

Nick's latest riposte to some critical thinkers on IG:

nick_moy@mostyn67 @spalmer0829 you both are hypocritical fools and lives in your own tiny world. Talking to you idiots is a waste of time and i have better things to do than sitting on the clapper. When you see 20000 likes and a couple of ridiculously stupid immature little people who do not even have a clue of how stupid they sound are definitely redefining the word stupid or imbecile.

I'm sure K8 would love to see 20K likes on one of her photos. Alas, it hasn't happened yet; in fact, she's not even gotten near 10K yet. But you keep clicking there, Nick, you can really help her out.

If this Nick person is in fact a sock of a long-time devoted K8 fan, I actually feel a little sorry for K8. Here she is thinking, "Wow, I've got a new fan who thinks I'm wonderful. See, TLC, I can still bring 'em in!" Eh, not so much.

The tups said on the show they do chores and that's fine as long as it does not interfere with homework, IMO. I just have a problem with Kate lying that she has no help. The kids help and she has adult help. If I had that big of a house, property and that many kids, I would want help too. There's no shame in it and she can afford it. It's just that she LIES about it, always has, despite the reports of all the nannies etc.

Yes. And we have seen Andrea doing chores, and the notes with various names on them, instructions for "Kate's laundry" When Collin was home, I'm sure she had help for him with home schooling and probably more.

Just seems that the girls don't do the chores they did before if the boys do lunches and garbage, getting up at 5 a.m!

Jeanne, Dolly Parton's book program is not only all over the USA, it is in the UK, Australia and Canada.

Making A Difference:

Dolly’s Imagination Library became so popular that in the year 2000 she announced that she would make the program available for replication to any community that was willing to partner with her to support it locally. Since the initial program launch in the United States, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has gone from just a few dozen books to over 80,000,000 books mailed to children in the United States, into Canada and across the proverbial pond into the United Kingdom!

Currently over 1600 local communities provide the Imagination Library to over 1,000,000 children each and every month. Already statistics and independent reports have shown Dolly Parton's Imagination Library drastically improves early childhood literacy for children enrolled in the program. Further studies have shown improved scores during early literacy testing.

She is a humanitarian and a good soul.

TFW, not so much. The countries listed sound like TFW's trip bucket list.

Sheepless In Seattle Nick is a person on IG who claims he never watched and herd about Kate's show until it got cancelled. But the strange thing about him is that he knows alot about the show despite the fact that he claims he doesn't watch T.V other then news and stock markets because hes to busy being "successful".Another strange thing about him is that he has this weird buddy buddy relationship with milo,he's commented on lots of milo's IG posts and acts as though him and milo are suddenly friends.

jamesvader1194 said...

It's possible Nick could also be another lonely man, since in the backstory he claims,he made no mention of having a wife, just a son. This could explain why he goes after anyone who criticizes Kate, its his way of white knighting her.I think he also could have a thing for milo since milo is the only Kate fan he follows and i've seen him defend her at times and comments on milo's pictures. What would be crazy about Nick is that someone gave a random guess saying it was LOM which would be crazy and funny if he is.

That nick person on IG says that viewership doesn't mean anything because of Netflix and YouTube, but K+8 isn't on Netflix. And someone said awhile ago that the voices or something are distorted on YouTube. So if someone wants to watch that particular show, they'd watch it on TV.

I agree that this is that Border Collies person. The massive exaggerations give her away. Remember the hole she "blew" in her heart? Brad Pitt lived in her basement? Now she's someone who spent years in the Dominion Republic (but never learned how to spell it) and made loads of money and knows what it's like to be rich and e he object of such jealousy (just like Kate!). Give me a break. And this person who, up until now, has been laser-focused on making a fortune, suddenly shifts that focus to...Kate Gosselin. Yeah, sure, that makes perfect sense. Not.

I don't think that Nick guy is Border Collie. On one of his instagram posts it shows a location in Oregon.

I think James is right==that Nick is just a lonely man whose main purpose in life now seems to be defending Kate(and bragging about himself). I think he mentioned once that he had problems with his son when he was younger, so perhaps he read the People article about Collin and came to think of Kate as a "kindred spirit" because he can relate to that.

He probably latched onto Milo because he thinks that she has a real life, up-close, personal relationship with Kate. Milo, in return, likes him because he defends Kate and says all the things she'd really like to say to the "haters".

"There was no reason to say anything and when fans noticed he was not on the show, either say nothing or say he is no longer filming. Period. Instead she sacrificed her son's privacy by making it about her and her trials as a single mother with a deadbeat dad."

It's also a way to deliver a laser-focused message to her ATMs: "The ONLY way you are getting out of filming is if you.....don't live here anymore".
She's not about to give them a choice or an 'out'.

If that Border Collies person lived for years in the "Dominion" Republic, you would think by now someone might have clued her in that she was(?) living in the Dominican Republic.

She's a hoot. She also used another person's photo as her avatar until she got caught. She said that Kate tweeted condolences on her deceased husband's memorial page, but allegedly did it herself.

She recently tweeted that she needs prayers because she is having serious risky surgery, but she's still tweeting. Surgery has bee postponed until next Monday because she has an infection. She berates others for harassing and bullying, but she's been attacking Lisa Rinna. I have no idea what Lisa did, but "Hole" obviously doesn't approve.

Kate's fans provide such entertainment.

Why would you need dry shampoo to towel dry a dog after the rain? Of course it has to be "organic" and probably expensive. (I don't see how you can make organic dry shampoo but I guess my chemistry is out of date.)

Wet dog smell. Yuck. Dry shampoo would take care of it. I've used it on mine and it works. Not organic, though, just regular dry dog shampoo.

I like checking Jon's IG once in awhile to see what he's up to. There's always more DJ gigs, so he's working hard at his job and career.
What's it been now? 3 years or so?
Good for him.

Knock knock Kate, your future is calling.

Paris Jackson was sent to a residential therapeutic school as a teenager. She says that she was a self-injurer and was sent to the program after her third suicide attempt.

C may very well tell the world one day what went on in that house.

I have no doubt that the remaining 5 tups realize that they are not guaranteed anything in life, not like most kids assume parental love is forever and their home is the safest place in the whole world.

I saw on Radar that Amy Roloff's bf seems real-like a real relationship-not just a set up for an episode. She's pictured holding hands with her new beau, and they were with friends for a long weekend.
Amy has SO many more plates spinning than Kate, AND, she's successfully navigating divorce, co-parenting and moving on emotionally.
Gosh, the difference between Amy and Kate is night and day. One is healthy and the other is so dysfunctional that it's tragic.

Localyocul (#189), and Paris Jackson is an excellent example of how a "golden platter" childhood doesn't buy you happiness or peace. Nor does it exempt you from troubles. Michael Jackson earns more money dead than all of us living folks put together. His children will never want for anything. But look at how this young woman has struggled.

That's why I cringe when fans say, look at the G kids' beautiful house, they're clean and well fed, they go to a great school, they take amazing vacations. As if that's some sort of guarantee that they're happy and well cared for. C's situation sure debunked that theory.

Either Collin will tell 20/20 or the TODAY Show what happened or we will find out in the depositions for the lawsuit against TLC/Kate Gosselin/Steve Neild/Figure 8 Productions.

Either way, we will find out.

Or even quicker when Mady and her mother have a standoff at 18 and Mady goes to the TODAY Show.

The background graphic will say: GROWED UP GOSSELIN.

Paris Jackson obviously loves her dad, but Michael Jackson couldn't have given them more of a bizarre childhood.
Add to that the fame and money and all the family with their greedy paws out, it's amazing Paris is alive today.

TFW posted a new video of baby Mack fetching a toy like a pro (because you know none of our puppies do that). When I first checked it at 4:15 (my time) it only had a little over 450 likes. It's now 4:19 and it's got over 1,000 likes. Methinks someone is buying likes again. I think I'll continue to monitor this.

Sad but true said...

So I guess she was saving up all these old videos so she'd have something to post in the dry season. Here's hoping it's a very loooooong dry season.

kateplusmy8 I have wanted to post this, MY FAVORITE PUPPY VIDEO OF ALL TIME, for awhile. Finally got around to looking for it! It's Mak, fetching a tiny toy chicken 'professionally' at ONLY 8 WEEKS OLD! It's quite amazing! He doesn't fetch as well anymore but went through an early stage of doing it mind blowingly well! Watch! And enjoy! ❤️🐶❤️ #Mak #FetchingPuppy

Color me surprised that she didn't hashtag #MYFAVORITEPUPPYVIDEO . . ., that's so not like her.

And here's Doofus, bringing up the rear:

miloandjack2016 LOL. Love the #PrancingPuppy game! You sound just like me...minus the awful southern accent! 😋 Love this #Flahback! @kateplusmy8

Yeah, let's hashtag #Flahback! C'mon, everyone, git 'er trendin'!
