Dueling magazine covers

This week Kate and the twins are on the cover of People. The twins insist they are not damaged by reality T.V.

The same day that cover was released, inTouch released their own cover of Kate, "Destroyed by Greed." In their interview with Jon, in which he lashed out at Kate, Jon said Kate is "hurting our children."

And the battle rages on.

"Admin, I think their come to Jesus moment is going to be when they say "but we're THE Gosselin's" and the answer is either "Who?" or "So what!" They live a very sheltered life now...private school, maybe some school activities, home...lather, rinse repeat. There's a big, bad world outside of those gates and none of the kids are going to be prepared to face it if they still believe that they are special and deserve everything on a golden platter."

****************************************************

I agree totally that being put on the cover of magazines perpetuates a sense of entitlement and self-importance. I think that may be more difficult for them to deal with than even their parents' antics in public.

The longer they remain in the spotlight the greater the discrepancy between their current perspective and the real world.

More's the pity if it goes beyond people not caring who the hell they are to that the general public becoming as annoyed and put off by the kids' themselves as they are of their parents.

Lindsay Lohan is an excellent case in point. Now that's she an adult, no one sympathizes with HOW she got where she is, they are simply disgusted by her behaviour and have no problem criticizing HER.

Just when I thought I couldn't be more disgusted by Kate's exploitation of her children she goes and ups the ante.

The woman is a social pariah and a nutcase and sadly, it's her children that will pay the biggest price for her lack of insight and awareness.

ROL has now picked up the story, and refers to part of the article where M&C talk about Jon's dating habits.

"Regarding Jon’s serial dating during that frame, Mady said “the stuff I remember now is stuff that I didn’t really see anything wrong with that the time … but now that I look back, I can see all without really wasn’t a good thing.

“Like girlfriends, lots of girlfriends. Like, maybe it wasn’t so normal to have someone new, like, every week.”

Cara joked, “Every day, every minute, every second!”

Like I said, it seems this article was written right after Kate dropped the lawsuit. She knew didn't have a chance in hell to get back at Jon using the lawsuit, so instead she got her daughters to do it for her.

Just when I think Kate couldn't get any more despicable, she proves me wrong. Bad enough she uses her children to further her "career", now she's using them to trash their own father.

Agree with what Winsome said in the other thread about what do you EXPECT the kids to say then go to school the next day? They're damaged, then go to school? LOL.

To add to that, it would be the rare 13 year old who would be able to recognize and then accept that they are damaged. They're too young and the don't know anything DIFFERENT. If the kids do feel damaged from their upbringing, it will likely be many years from now and after much therapy that they are able to even say that. Until then of course anyone is going to say me, no there is nothing wrong with me how dare you suggest that!

Denial is very common and normal. Who wants to admit something is wrong? And what's more I wouldn't expect them to recognize and accept any damage right now. That is going to need to happen later once they are out of the house. Right now they're just going to have to go on with life and focus on school and friends. It's not time yet to process their childhoods. It's not time yet to lay it all out from A to Z to a therapist. Their childhoods aren't even over yet.

What I love too though is if Jon is soooo bad how come the twins are doing so great? Surely having such a deadbeat father would mean they would be affected somehow right? You can't have it both ways.

My head hurts. This is just an awful war, but it still points more to Kate's absolute obsession with fame and anger about the divorce which did not give her the media career she was sure would follow. Apparently she still hates her ex more than she cares about the well being of their children. This magazine cover is disgusting, and certainly points out how little she cares about their privacy. Why bother sending them to a private school if you are going to do this? She has absolutely no scruples, no shame and frankly, no career will come from this. Think her big plan to stick it to the ex had also backfired. Again.

All right, Kate is feeding that to them and re-writing history. There was never a new girlfriend every second or even every week. There was a brief period where he was dating. I can rattle off all the dates right now and it's what, six or seven? One of them Jon maintains was just a FRIEND. After that, there were two serious relationships in over three years, Ellen and then Liz. Kate, you're so transparent.

And how deplorable for People to talk to them about that.

careful Admin.....when TFW reads here, she will be twittering how the girls no longer see Jon on visitation because they WERE being damaged by Jon and how perfect their life is with her. It's so sad to me how those girls are getting sucked into her narcissistic, "we won't survive without tv...so HELP me girls and say this in the interview...because if you don't, we won't get a tv show and then we will lose the house and you won't get to do anything FUN anymore". Those kids are going to be so messed up. I am thankful it was just another stupid magazine article and NOT a dating show. And the saga continues......I wish Robert would give us an update!

Well, we all know now that the "little 6" will definitely read and believe everything their sisters and mother say in this article. After all, in their immature 9 year brains, if they are on a national publication cover then what is said has to be true. I guarantee you the twins will be watching, with or without permission the entire CT series. More amno for Kate to turn them against Jon. I agree the hate she has for Jon is overwhelming. I hope the public really turns against her for this article.
How does this woman continually get cover after cover of People magazine. So what if that woman Kate likes her is a managing editor. I am sure she doesn't call all the shots. Kate is a nobody now. I am shock that here she is on the cover again. And somewhere I read that the cover garnered a $75,000 fee. You know they don't pay for their articles but they sure as heck pay for photo licensing fee. And I am sure Kate is going to funnel some of that money to the kids for the pay off.

When they this magazine come out. Admin. can someone please just re-type the article here. I mean what is the worse that could happen. People will tell you to remove it. Or if not, please let someone do a paragraph by paragraph summary. I will want to know how bad she is brainwashing her teens.

Can someone give a paragraph by paragraph summary of Jon's article.

I'm gobsmacked by this. Using children -- especially ones at such a vulnerable age -- sickens me. An engraved invitation for people to comment online, for posterity, on the physical appearance and emotional development of your young teenage daughters, TFW? Deplorable, even by your sub-zero standards.

And if anyone doubts that TFW offers bribes for her children...she admitted this on J&K+8. I think it was during a photo shoot, when the tups were pretty small, and they'd been given some kind of backpacks filled with goodies. And TFW said something like, we always give them bribes for doing these things. Back then I was still a fan, but the word "bribe" was a red flag for me. Not "rewards," or "treats," but "bribes." But, I thought this was all fun fun fun? Kids playing and doing everyday things while the cameras rolled? Bribes are a form
of compensation for a loss or effort...very different from rewards.
What a sickening development.

Yep, too bad there were sightings of all eight of them with Jon over Christmas. That ruined that little spin.

Wow, someone's PR machine is in overdrive. Two back to back stories about the Gosselin's on ROL.

Who knew they had, unfortunately, such staying power? Those kids may think they are not damaged now, but like Admin said, give it a couple years kids.

When you grow up and realize that so few parents would even contemplate using their kids the way your parents have used you, you'll probably notice that perhaps you have a couple of issues.

And their names are Jon and Kate.

Absolutely! and what a dunce tfw and coyne are to even publish something so blatantly obvious. Those who have not followed this witch for years will come to the conclusion that she knows NOTHING about kids and parenting. Those of us who know her and her kind see proof positive that she puts HER OWN words and agenda into their mouths. They have always been and continue to be the means to an end for her.

I just thought about Kate giving that wonderful sermon on Hallmark show about how to raise kids going through a divorce. Everyone she said on that show was like she was quoting the highlights from a book on all the right things to say and do.

But we all know that Kate did not and does not follow any of that advice. Hence, this article in People magazine. Again, I hope the public is outraged at Kate and disgusted with her for pitting her young teens against their father.

I absolutely see in the very near future that the Gosselin kids--who will all be teens a few years--will embark on their own reality TV series. Some may be bit behind players and others will be forefront stars. But with Mady leading the way and the example both their parents have set it will happen. I predict the Gosselin teens will have their own reality show. By then the Kardashians will be old tired news and someone will have to replace them. This cover is just the tip of the iceberg. It may very well be on E!

Don't forget that all of the kids are having memories implanted via watching the show DVDs every night. They are seeing the edited version of the 2 overwhelmed, plucky parents that laughed and loved and bickered. And, most likely, they believe that it ended because of their father's infidelity. That is the timeline of the show. I honestly doubt that they know the timeline , I.e., that the marriage was over before his dating began.

However, that "brief" period of his "dating" is extremely damaging to children's perception of relationships, and their own relationship with each parent. Kids don't get over or move on from it--it will continue to affect them throughout their lives.

How very, very telling. Mady did not see anything wrong with what Jon was doing at the time. Until...uummmm....this below quote:
“Cara listening, Mady and I talking – it helped the three of us get through the ugliness. Things that happened with my divorce were hurtful, and there were many tears, but we got through it. They really are trying to work with me even now, when they have emotional
moments.”
++++++++++
Just like we all knew. Yeah, Kate "helped" them through the divorce. No, she brainwashed them through it. And she went and cried and spilled out every little detail to her children during the divorce. The reason they "see" it was wrong what Jon was doing back then is because Kate told them it was wrong. They admit they didn't see anything wrong at the time.

PatK said...

And let's not forget that the twins are at the age where, in many divorce situations, the teens tend to swing their parental favoritism toward the parent offering the better ride. If Kate's fame and money take a downward spiral, watch them jump ship to Dad faster than you can blink.

Gee Kate who is leaking info and stories to the media, NOT JON! You Kate and your co-horts/fans/lackeys/so-call friends(Jamie, Deanna: hired help). This is Kate exploiting her kids to the hilt. Robert got it right in her book. She doesn't give a flying fat's rear end about the dog. I don't care if the dog has a heated doghouse or if he likes to be outside to roam. There is no excuse that anyone can give to allow a family pet to be outside in this weather. My strays are still inside, even though it warmed up to a balmy 18, and are staying inside until tomorrow. They did enjoy the Johnny Mathis CDs last night, though. Tonight it's Barry Manilow.

Update on cats and questions answered. They are two big, beautiful girls, no names, but they answer to "Hi guys." I could call them Laverne and Shirley! We could have a naming not-a-contest here with the winner receiving a rumspringa of the month prize, with Auntie's Saint Bernard delivering a keg at the beginning of each month. The cats are both long-haired kitties...very long hair, a grooming nightmare. I brushed each one of them out this morning. No fleas found.

Kate and the cover. She will never give up. Never. She's probably giddy with excitement, laughing hysterically over this. It's just a big finger at Jon, getting even, saying that she can do anything she wants with the kids and there's not a darn thing he can do about it. She needs more than intensive psychiatric help. How many posts have we had here...stories from child actors now grown up who had no idea of the effect the whole thing had on them until they were young adults? The twins, at 13, are not able to grasp this right now, but they will.

I have spent time with these kids and will absolutely agree the older 2 are damaged ..they hold resentments and have been used by Kate to hurt Jon . He didn't have girls everyday-In fact his one relationship with someone they actually liked and lasted almost 2yrs. Mady is disrespectful and outspoken to the point she's rude. Cara def more quiet and respectful .the younger 6 r just all over the place. Kate is a dictator and will do anything to stay relevant including use these children for interviews .its pathetic.

Kate opened the twins up to this type of commentary. And if this poster is accurate, Kate's repurcussions from being a parental alienator will haunt through some very difficult teen years with all of those kids.

I didn't read the article and have no plans to do so. That quote from one of the twins about her dad's girlfriends did it for me. Kids say things to be cute and funny. However, Kate was the parent present there and she did nothing to stop it. She could have easily said, wait, don't print that, but she didn't. What parent in their right mind would allow a child to throw their father under the bus like that? She's even more disgusting than I imagined. That woman needs to run, not walk, to a mental health professional. She's not only hell bent on revenge against Jon, but she's nuts.

This story is being picked up by several media outlets, and more about what the twins had to say is coming to light. This is from an article from USAToday.

"Kate's take on them and all they've been through? "They're figuring out stuff on their own."

One thing the girls know for sure is that they are more than ready to return to TV. "We'd love to do it again," says Cara. "We miss the crew, the people we saw everyday. It was fun."

And before the interview is over, Cara admits, "Honestly? Our mom is the best."

This interview has Kate written all over it, with the twins just repeating what Kate has been saying all along. Sounds like they've been brainwashed to mimic Kate, even to the point of using "Honestly". I doubt very much that "they're figuring stuff out all on their own". The only thing that they have "figured out" is to do as Mommy says or there will be hell to pay.

FYI said...

And from the Daily Mail:

"But the split and Jon's nasty comments aren't the hardest thing the twins have had to deal with. Suddenly getting six siblings was much more traumatic, they insisted.

'I love them but... yeesh,' said Mady said, who also noted she will not have more than two children when she is older.

Mady said she wanted to be an actress one day whereas Cara is interested in being a doctor.

The girls would also not mind doing reality TV again. 'We miss the crew, the people we saw every day,' said Cara. 'We'd love to do it again.'

Toward the end of the interview, when mom Kate was not near them, they took on a sweeter tone.

'Our mom is the best,' said Cara. 'She wants us to have everything, and she fights for that, and I love her for it.'

This morning on Hoda and Kathy Lee the article was discussed...or should I say disgusted. Both hosts said how horrible Kate is to brainwash the girls. Kate said in the article that at the time of the divorce she told the girls it was just her and them against the world. They were 9 years old at the time. She is beyond despicable.

I have to say, just the thought that the twins think that this is "normal", to be on the cover of a tabloid, is evidence enough to me that they are NOT normal and will have some lengthy consultations with a therapist in their futures.

The same goes for tfw.

As far as the timeline, I don't think he was with anyone on that particular night. He just "went out" and didn't come home. Who says he was with a woman? And he was probably already living over the garage, the kids weren't allowed in the bitch's lair under threat of severe punishment.

And let's not forget that the twins are at the age where, in many divorce situations, the teens tend to swing their parental favoritism toward the parent offering the better ride. If Kate's fame and money take a downward spiral, watch them jump ship to Dad faster than you can blink
***********
I saw this quote on the Daily Mail website:

'Our mom is the best,' said Cara. 'She wants us to have everything, and she fights for that, and I love her for it.'

It's exactly what you said--the parent offering the better ride. Kate wants them to have everything. And, apparently, having things is what motivates these kids. I aheve no doubt that Zorro and 1D tickets--material things--were what Kate used to bribe the girls into doing this interview

Another disturbing quote:
The girls would also not mind doing reality TV again. 'We miss the crew, the people we saw every day,' said Cara. 'We'd love to do it again.'

The crew left in August of 2011. Almost 2 1/2 years ago, and they STILL miss them? But they don't mention missing their dad, their grandparents, friends, relatives, Jodi and Kevin and their cousins who lived just around the corner from them for years. Now, that is truly sad. They don't miss the people who have real bonds to them, they don't miss lost friends or family, they miss the camera crew who were there to do a job and to help exploit them.

A couple thoughts:

1) While we realize it wasn't a new girlfriend every other day, that doesn't mean it didn't feel that way to Cara and Mady. They were 9 at the time and they went from mom and dad being together to dad and mom not being together and dad suddenly dating other women. I can't believe that there wasn't some divorce angst on their part.

And while it wasn't a new girlfriend "every minute, every second", he did date five women in the course of what? A year? There was the school teacher, then Hailey and while he was with Hailey there was Stephanie Santorro (the babysitter) and Kate Major, and after Hailey there was the rich girl with the condo in Park City. She was followed a few months later by Ellen Ross, who was a steady girlfriend for about a year and then Liz Janetta (and we don't know who he dated between Ellen and Liz).

We know for sure, based on Jon's comments, that the kids had met Hailey and Stephanie, and I'm sure they heard their mom rant about the rest.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can understand how Mady and Cara feel about the women Jon has dated revolving in and out of their lives and while I'm sure loyalty to their mom is also a factor, I think they were expressing their own (IMO quite valid) feelings as well.

This is why it pisses me off that Kate made them do this interview (to be fair, yes, while it is possible they may have asked to do it but I don't find it very probable). These are their private feelings and the world did not need to read about them in a gossip magazine.

These children deserved better parents then they got, unfortunately, and frankly both Jon and Kate need to grow up and not use their kids to stay relevant.

2) I wonder if the article wasn't done in November as a response to his comments on Oprah's show and People chose not to run it until CT began airing, knowing it would likely generate more sales at that point.

This is ten times worse than her "my kids want to spend Christmas with ME! article. She must have been brainwashing them for years. I bet she cried to them the personal details of the divorce, etc. (truth or not). It makes me sad to think how they used to adore Jon and now they riducule him.

Frankly, I find this rather hard to believe, given the attitude, looks and posture we saw, and continue to see, whenever a film crew gets close to her. A real pot of crock IMO. What I do think is more real is that the twins would probably be happy if the six pack went to live with Dad and they had Kate and the big house all to themselves. They were displaced by the new children, cut off from their grandparents and other family support and tossed into the tv cesspool. And now their mother has alienated them from their father, curries their favor and treats them like her bff's. Entitlement? Oh sure, big time. Poor little boys.

So the twins discussed their father's string of girlfriends, but nothing was said about Kate parading around with a married bodyguard? Why the heck not? Let's level the playing field. If you're going to interview these kids about what should be a private time in their lives (post-divorce), then let's ask them about how they feel about Uncle Steve and if you saw anything there. After all, why keep that under wraps? Fair is fair.

Using the kids to get back at Jon, and putting them on display by having them reveal things that should be private is the ultimate in exploitation. Having the film crew shoving cameras in their faces and filming the crap out of them now seems pale in comparison when you see now just how low this sorry excuse for a mother can actually go. She's out of her ever-lovin' mind.

That was talked about on this blog also, about how his dating several women within a short period would affect the children. But, that being said, that should be private, not something talked about in a magazine by 13 year old children. Jon and Kate both should be held accountable for their actions, but having the children speak about it publicly is beyond the pale. It is the epitomy of being a bad parent to let this happen and to encourage it.

They parroted exactly what Kate says. It's creepy.

If they miss the crew, they have iPhones. Pick them up, call or text the crew members. Invite them over to dinner or go out to see them sometime. You don't have to film in order to keep up the friendship. And if filming started up again it would probably be a whole new crew anyway because this is a fast business and people get tied down to other projects quick. It could easily be an all new crew and what's the point of that?

People leave jobs all the time, it doesn't mean if you made a good friend you can't keep up the relationship.

All that said I find it downright creepy a 13 year old would be this concerned about some 20 or 30 something crew member most of which were males. They need to make friends their own ages and forget the crew.

Also "everything" Cara? I'm very sorry that you feel that it's a good thing to have "everything." Very sorry.

eonline has a story about Jon's article: Some excerpts:

""She uses them as her props," Jon, 36, says of Kate keeping their children in the public eye. "It's a problem for her that she can't afford our old lifestyle anymore. It's so unfair to them. I work really hard to keep my kids safe and then she just goes and tweets about them all the time. I don't have a Twitter anymore and even when I did, I never tweeted about my kids. I kept their lives private."

"I don't think being on TV is good for kids. A lot of them do not want to film and they come to me and tell me that," the restaurant waiter claims. "It's upsetting and I think it's embarrassing for them. They are enjoying having an ordinary childhood."

Also, some more quotes from Cara and Mady's article:

Despite her father's worries, Cara insists she's happy. "I feel like I've done a pretty good job at handling everything," she tells People. "People who think they know who we are, they don't really understand."

In fact, being the oldest of eight siblings has been more challenging for the twins than having their parents' divorce play out in the press. "Having six little kids show up all at once, that's the big deal in our life," Mady says. "And their messes, and their being annoying. I mean, I love them, but...yeesh."

In my opinion, BOTH of these parents are using their children as props to continue a war that should have ended 4 years ago. They both use their children as an excuse to attack the other parent. They talk about their children to make themselves look better. Sorry, Jon, you're just as bad as Kate in discussing your children in order to attack their mother. Their childhood is anything but "ordinary".

They both disgust me.

How on earth would a kid know their parent was 'fighting for' things or for them unless they were told that? My mom did that for a while with us after our parents' bitter divorce (bitching about not getting enough support or our dad not seeing us) and it was very hurtful. We already knew he didn't see us enough; we didn't need to know he didn't care to pay for for our needs too, and that our mom was fighting on him on it. Kids should not know these things. I don't know what context Cara meant that, but it rubs me wrong. Any fighting should be kept between the parents. And the parents should not be seeking comfort from the kids.

Exactly! And it struck me that Kate says, " They really are trying to work with me even now, when they have emotional moments.” Kate is their therapist. HA! ME, ME, ME. I hope Christina and her male co-host On Hallmark come across this article. Remember on Home and Garden Kate gave the perfect answer to how to raise kids through a divorce. It was like was was reading the bullet points from a divorce therapist on the proper things to say and do to help your children prosper through a bad divorce. And the male co-host seemed blown away by her wisdom and said so. We all knew Kate does the opposite of everything she purported. And this proves it.

Kate had and has much more time, access, money, drive, money, fame-whoring tendencies and media time than Jon has every had or will ever have. Therefore the kids will continue to be brainwashed by Kate for many years to come. As this article clearly says from Cara's own lips, "'Our mom is the best,' She wants us to have everything, and she fights for that, and I love her for it.' Of course what kid who was raise very entitled and rich isn't going to pick the parent that can give them everything on a gold platter. And it surprises me that Cara is the one who says she wants to film again. From seeing her on "Kate Plus 8" it looked like she did not like the cameras. Yes, these kids will have their own reality TV show when all are teenagers. And of course, they will have to up the teen drama to garner the ratings.
I feel for them. I don't think their eyes will be open to the truth until they are married themselves with kids and having to earn a living in the real world. That may well be 15 to 20 years from now. Until now Kate is ruling their minds and Jon's family should do an intervention and tell him every time he goes public with ANYTHING it gives Kate ammunition and more publicly. Jon needs to cut off all things public and NEVER give another interview for the next 20 years. Every time he opens his mouth it comes out wrong.

(which of course they're too young to understand). But I can't help but remember a moment on the show when one of these children hugged her dad, and TFW's voiceover said the child "still sees stars" when she sees her daddy. What a sad situation.

Kate doesn't need any help from anyone here to make her look bad. She manages that fine, all by herself. Just putting her kids out there to do this interview speaks volumes, regardless of what the kids did or didn't say.

From a HollywoodLife article on this subject:

"Kate explained that her daughters are thriving, despite not seeing their dad often. “Since Jon has been gone, they’ve just stepped up and pitched in,” she told the magazine. “They’ll have as normal a life as possible, given all that they’ve been through. I tell them, ‘You’re a kid, and your job is to be a kid.’”

If their job is being a kid, then why are they doing an interview with People magazine, Kate?

Both of those girls sound so entitled and spoiled. Mady was always like Kate even when she was 4 or 5 years old. It is really not their fault though. When the 6 came along they were thrown away like a used toy. This is truly sad. Imagine what their grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. think of this mess. I feel bad when the 6 find out they were planned for fame and fortune, and not to be an addition to a family. Also note how Alexis is "grouped" with the boys and not any of the girls. You could not write this stuff as the old saying goes.

Very excellent points made in comments #130 and #131. Kate is a walking contradiction of lies.

This is a quote from another article:

"Having six siblings show up all at once, that's the big deal in our life," said Mady. "And their messes, and their being annoying. I mean I love them but … yeesh." She went on to describe Alexis as "rabid" and "a wild animal."

No matter how the twins feel about their younger siblings, I find it so sad that this is being made public and that their mother approves of it.

And for the sheeple reading here, this is not "bashing" the twins. This is criticizing their mother for allowing and encouraging the twins to state their feelings in a public forum, just to "set the record straight".

Oh, and poor Shoka out in the cold. She is incredibly cruel. I told you guys the only reason she allows Shoka around is to patrol the property. He is not a family pet. Having Shoka returned was probably Steve's idea.

And those of you who thought the wedding Lego tweet was odd, it was planned and that witch is out to get a show and use the kids to do it .

Finally as I blow off steam, if Jon really believes the kids are a mess, he needs to demand they go into therapy instead of getting paid to spout off in a magazine. The whole bunch is dysfunctional. . . Mom, dad and kids!

Has M held onto this resentment all these years? I mean we saw it on the show but come on! How well can she possible remember life before the tups? What were they, 4?

*****
I think her resentment is understandable, although I agree holding on to it for 9 years is excessive. After all, before the sextuplets came, they had mom and dad's attention all to themselves. After the sextuplets came, they watched mom and dad's marriage go down the drain. And the impression I have is that they have taken over Jon's role as the keeper of the kids. I don't think Kate has changed all that much, and I'm sure she still sits around in a chair and orders Mady and Cara to take care of their siblings much like she did with Jon. I said it before and I'll say it again, it doesn't surprise me that they don't necessarily want to go to Jon's at the same time as the sextuplets do. That's probably one of the only times they get a break from them. Also, since they're Kate's best friends, that might be the time they get the most attention from her.

But in the end, who really knows what goes on in either of their houses? All I do know is that this family, imo, is dysfunctional and it's just very sad.

Admin - good point on Mady's comment. I wonder, though, if Cara didn't have a more difficult time with it. Mady seems like she can go with the flow more then Cara does. I also think Cara was more of a Daddy's girl, so the divorce might have hit her harder. Mady may have simply seen it as "Oh good, they're not fighting anymore".

But who really knows and in the end it's all speculation. It's just sad that she let them be interviewed in the first place. Did I read correctly that she made $75000 from this piece? Wow. Just wow.

After all this nonsense, I think it would be prudent for Mr. Hoffman to make a statement one way or the other regarding the publication of his book.

Is it going to happen, is it not? Was he silenced by Kate's lawyers? Did he have a change of heart and simply changed his mind?

I just don't see his silence, especially in view of recent developments, as lending to his credibility.

I want to believe that when he started this project he really was invested in just bringing to light the truth behind the Gosselin brand and revealing the abuse the children suffered.

Though I never particularly cared for his teasing and taunts and thought that perhaps it was not the most appropriate marketing tool, I still believed in the importance of his message.

These kids were NOT just playing; scenes were staged, content was scripted and behind closed doors kids were being beaten with a wooden spoon while countless "stage hands" looked the other way pretending not to hear their cries.

I hope that the twins feel a bit of remorse for the things said about Jon especially when the kids in school start in with the "boy, you dad's a real jerk". As far as the twins being ver savvy and being able to size you up with a glance? Doubtful. They don't have enough life/people experiences to size anyone up. When they were filming they were surrounded by TFW's yes men and were not allowed to interact with those around them. We saw it time and time again when TFW freaked out because the unwashed masses were getting too close.

It's very sad that it's come to this. I hope they really, really enjoy the 1D concert especially if this is the price they had to pay to get those tickets.

It speaks to Kate's lies that all the kids are doing great. I am not picking on Alexis. I am speaking directly and only to this comment by their sibling. From Kate's twitter comments and Jon's comments in the Roundtable interview, it sounds like Hannah and Leah or friends and that leaves Alexis out. Again, I am just going on Kate, Jon's and sibling comment. I feel really bad for Alexis to have this comment in print. It just hit me that Jon used the word "wild" when they introduced the kids in the opening of Jon and Kate Plus 8. Am I correct? And here is the same word to describe Alexis. Ever hear of the self-fulfilling prophesy? A strongly held belief, or delusion—declared as truth when it is actually false—so that they their reactions ultimately fulfill the once-false prophecy. Alexis may not be wild but she had heard her father call her that hundreds of times. (As innocent as it was of Jon). Remember they watch the reruns hundreds of times no doubt. And now here it is again by another family member years and years later. This quote by her sibling will affect Alexis very badly I predict. She may be too young now but believe me she will have the world mention this quote to her many times in her future.

Keep calling her wild and she may just become wild to prove the family right.

#167 - yep, AuntieAnn, you remember correctly. The word TFW used about the extra space in the new house (which was hers, all hers) was that it would allow the children to "disperse." And that word was accompanied by a grin I would liken to the one the Grinch sprouted when he decided to steal Christmas. That was the last episode I watched.

I have a knot in my stomach about this whole thing. One sister using such an awful description of another sister. In print. Forever. How can she possibly realize the power of her words at 13? She's a child, so I can't blame her. But I sure can blame her mother for facilitating it.

Jumping In said...

When Katie Couric arrived at TFW's house, the first thing I noticed was how Cara tried to hide from the camera by standing behind Kate. When the twins gave their names they looked miserable, and in Mady's case miserable with an attitude. For me at least, none of the kids looked happy or particularly thrilled to be in front of the camera again.

Kate sees the twins as young enough to manipulate and intimidate, and old enough to use as her mouthpieces. Sure, they will tow the line, because they see what ordinary life looks like at their dad's place, and what money has bought them at their mom's.

What's next, taking the twins along with her on the talk show circuit, so all 3 of them can beg together for a new show?

If you can't stand to have the dog upstairs with you, then at least allow him to be in the basement at night and get some relief from the cold weather.

Someone up thread made a very good point. Lindsey Lohan has two of the worst show business parents, and as a result, she is seriously messed up. But now that she's an adult, people mock her, and have little sympathy for her continuing antics and addictions. That's because most people think that once you reach adulthood, and if you have the monetary resources like Lohan, you ought to seek counseling, try to get your life together, and are now responsible for all decisions, both good and bad.

The same outlook is going to come down on Mady and Cara's heads if they continue on this road with Mommy Dearest. If it's true that they are rude and disrespectful to their father, and prefer to stay home with their mom because she bribes them and buys them expensive show tickets and iPhones, etc., then they are indeed entitled bratty children. Not really their fault, but the closer they come to graduation and age 18, the less people will cut them slack for their privileged attitude.

I can only hope that they felt they had to make such comments for the article in order to please their mother, and that they don't really feel this way. Only time will tell.

There is no low that Kate will not sink to, if it means getting her fugly mug on the cover of a magazine. But the kids don't miss the people who do care about them, but were banished from their lives. How does that make sense?

Poor Alexis. She always seemed like the odd girl out, and she seemed shunned by the other girls. Remember the RV episode, when Hannah said to hold hands, so "If we die, we die together", and Leah wouldn't hold Alexis's hand? And just recently Kate tweeted that she told one of the girls (Hannah or Leah) that a pet peeve is something that really annoys you, and the girl said, "Alexis, you are my pet peeve". Just think how Alexis feels. It has to be hurtful, and now another sister is bashing her in a magazine that will be read by millions. That is far worse than anything said by/about Jon or Kate. Alexis is a 9-year-old child, and shouldn't have to deal with being publicly bashed. And the fact that Kate sat there and allowed it is inexcusable. That poor little girl has nobody to stand up for her. She must feel so alone and unwanted in that family.

Hmm, this makes me wonder. Did Kate contact People to give them exclusive access to the kids to counter not just Jon's interview but also his appearance on Couples Therapy?

Turtle Logic said...

I think it is imperative that Jon haul Kate back into family court to address these 2 issues:

1. Twins visitation/custody schedule; Usually I think that teens should have a big say as to which parent to spend time with, but TFW seems to be exercising far too much control over which kids go or stay and the judge needs to put a stop to this.

2. ANY and ALL interviews, photo-shoots, TV segments, etc. must require BOTH parent's approval BEFOREHAND. Preferably, I think these things should be prohibited completely. A judge needs to make a ruling so TFW can't get away with constantly dragging her kids into the public eye. This would include using their names and likenesses on any product, including cookbooks, magazine covers and websites like her blog. If legally possible TFW should be prevented from using twitter, and other social media as well, to show pictures or talk about the kids.

Is it possible through the courts to force her to change her name back to Krieder?

Turtle Logic said...

I would also like to point out that is exceedingly rare for a 13-year-old (especially one who never had therapy!) to acknowledge or identify the negative aspects of their personalities or behaviors. That portion of their brain has not even completely formed yet. What young teen doesn't think they are awesome and the world revolves around them? Rarely happens.

This, too, shall pass said...

It's been forever since I've posted here. I read occasionally, but had to comment on this topic. I've not read the article or all the posts, so bear with me if I'm repeating others' words.

My very bitter single mother railed against my father and his family from their day of separation (I was six) until she booted me out of the house at age 18.

My mother was narcissistic and controlling woman. My siblings and I would walk on eggshells and willingly jumped on the bandwagon with her against my father, because if we did not, we would suffer.

My mother also made me testify against a stepfather of mine. I had to state that he beat us (age 12), but of course I couldn't say a word about the beatings she gave us with wooden spoons, belts, hairbrushes, and her bare hand.

Thankfully my stepfather well knew I was made to testify (or else!) and he never held it against me. My relationship with him was a wonderful one and lasted until the day he passed. Compared to my relationship with my mother, I've spent many, many years estranged from her. The horrid, exaggerated, and negative talk about my father came into focus to me upon reaching adulthood.

I can only hope Jon reacts (to the twins remarks) in the same loving and caring manner my stepfather did.

I noticed that People doesn't even have this story on the main page anymore. Hopefully this is due the backlash and outrage.

Earlier, I went to the People site to take a gander at the comments. It seems like the article is only accessible now from their paid site. Interesting. I'm thinking that the comments were scorching.

I want to believe that when he started this project he really was invested in just bringing to light the truth behind the Gosselin brand and revealing the abuse the children suffered........

For Kate to go balls out and put her twins on the cover of People so they can trash their father..... tells me that Robert has been silenced for good. She doesn't seem too concerned with him. We'll never hear from him again.

No loving mother does this to her kids or makes her kids do this. She is a sick, disturbed piece of garbage. I can't imagine how these girls face their very, very, very wealthy friends. Friends who don't have to be pimped on the cover of People to pay for next year's tuition. My God..... I never thought Kate would stoop this low. My heart breaks tonight for all the Gosselin children. Make it stop.

It IS "fair game". Momma pushed for this interview no doubt, but the words came out of the kids' mouths. Should we bury our heads like the sheep and NOT say how this makes them sound?

I agree. Disgusting names are uncalled for, but hey, they did the interview, they spoke, and their attitude and words are not supposed to be discussed? That's hardly a level playing field. If they didn't want to be judged, then all of them, momma and the kids, should never have consented to do this. She can't use her children to get back at Jon and not expect backlash. It doesn't work that way.

13 year-olds cannot legally consent to anything. Maybe they wanted to do the interview, maybe they didn't. None of us knows. That's not a reason for adults to rip apart children.

I think Jon has already answered this in one of his interviews. He says the twins prefer to be at their mom's more and he's fine with that. He has stated he spends time with the twins apart from the sextuplets. Despite his recent interview, I give Jon props for respecting his children's wished. He himself was a child of divorce and I think this gives him some insights into how to handle the twins right now. If he weren't seeing them at all, that would be different. Apparently the current arrangement works for him and the kids.

We've had this discussion before. Kate and Jon have joint physical custody. Kate has full legal custody. That means that if she wants to let the kids do interviews or film, she has the right to do so, and their judge has backed her up on this in the past. Yes, Jon could take her back into court and he did that during the Australia trip. However, I think Jon has realized that Kate isn't getting a show any time soon and I think he's probably decided to cross that bridge when and if it comes to that.

I am sure he probably is telling himself "9 more years and then all the kids will be over 18 and I won't need to deal with her again, except for graduations and weddings."

"Having six siblings show up all at once, that's the big deal in our life," said Mady. "And their messes, and their being annoying. I mean I love them but … yeesh." She went on to describe Alexis as "rabid" and "a wild animal."
.............

What a horrendous thing for People magazine to print. Horrible. And what 13 year old would use those terms to describe a sibling?? Maybe a 20 year old, but not a 13 year old.

It really is making Kate crazy that she can't just ban Jon from the kids' lives. That's where all the hate comes from. She has banished everyone else who ever mattered to them, attempting to make them completely emotionally dependent upon her, but she can't make him go away. So she makes him pay for it every chance she gets. Remember her email to Hailey saying, "I have to get my kids away from Jon". If she had been able to do that, then she would have succeeded in cutting them off from everyone else but her. Sure, they go to school, but she made sure it wasn't close to home so the other kids wouldn't be close to them. She wants her kids as isolated as possible, so that she gets to be the only influence in their lives.

I knew things were not good for Alexis when they said she was sleeping in the basement because she was a bat. Time and time again, Kate encouraged Hannah and Leah to be together and to leave Alexis out (Philly episode) and in her book she praised the other two and stated Alexis was delayed in physical development and liked to be on her own. The other two were the heroes in many of her anecdotes. I guess she passed this attitude down to the twins.

I used to think Joel was the odd boy out, but I guess now that he 'likes to look good' he's ok- for an icky boy. When Katie C visited Hannah pointed to Collin and Alexis as the troublemakers who liked to fight.

In my wildest imaginings of poor parenting, I did not think of a mother pimping out her daughters to trash their father to achieve some tabloid fame.

Yes, it can be accessed but it isn't on the first page anymore. You have to click to see more headlines. This morning, it was the top story. I'm an avid people.com reader (don't judge) and I've never seen it where the top story of the day doesn't stay on the main page unless something BIG happens (divorce, scandal, death etc.)
