Dental Assistant...Are there sometimes conditions where parents are encourage to wait until children are somewhat older for braces?
But yes I immediately noticed his swollen gums and that is worrisome.

Not a surprising outcome after a childhood filled with JuicyJuice and very little milk, now is it?

I heard a little interesting insider info about the production of Dance Moms, so I had to share.

My niece (I'll call Ana) is a competitive dancer and has competed during productions of DM. (She's a little older, so doesn't directly compete against the DM girls.) I saw Ana and her mom, Dee, over Thanksgiving and was just fascinated by this. (No one else at the table cared, so I plied the topic as long as I could, lol.)

Ana was apparently in a group sitting on stage in one of the episodes and could be seen on TV.

My sister-in-law Dee described the cast sitting down before a competition reading scripts. Yes, scripts! Even the kids. Dee said the girls are really very nice and so are the moms and Abby Lee and will stop and chat. However, she described the girls as "little actresses."

When they're done with scripts and the performance starts, they all go back stage. Dee said Abby Lee was actually very nice, but then Abby sits down, the cameras start rolling, and she puts on her "game face" (a big unhappy scowl).

DM runs through the numbers several times (one real, the rest fake) and then "splices" parts together. Dee and Ana have been able to compare the episode with the reality they've seen and it may not match. Once, DM spliced the same portion of a dance from two different performances to make that section look REALLY long--so it would appear the dancer forgot her dance. (If you've watched DM, you know that's high drama!) Dee said it's fun for them to watch when they've been there. Ana will point to the screen and say, "That didn't happen!"

Dee said when you see just a few people sitting around in the audience, that's a fake performance. Also, those sitting behind the DM cast have been specially chosen and signed a waiver. Those people aren't random.

Dee signed something for her daughter to be on a DM episode, but then described a "bait and switch" situation, which I didn't fully understand. I guess she felt used. By then, the others at the table were completely bored, so I had to let it drop, but I really wanted to hear more!

There you have it! The one and only insider reality info I will ever have, lol.

The palatal expander needs to be used before jaw fuses so parents wouldn't be encouraged to wait on this and 8-10 is fairly common age for it.

Hi everyone! I have stayed away from Kate stuff until I read she tweeted about getting a bird. I am acertaingirl on twitter and I was the one who warned her about letting a bird sit on your shoulder.

Anyhow, I see she hasn't followed my advice, and after seeing the latest pics of Z on top of his cage, I can see why she can't get him back in the cage at night.

=========

I see by your twitter that you tried, darkride. Seems like many of us have a bad feeling about the poor little bird. I thought it was interesting that you said (on twitter) that parrots bond with just one person. Kate has no clue. I don't know much about pet birds--mostly what I've learned here--but I know enough to know what I DON'T know.

The article posted above said that Kate loves animals "as much as she loves children." Yeah, and we all know how much THAT is. Gum on the stuffed animal, anyone? Sick child on the laundry room floor? Grabbing by their hair... and on and on.

Is anyone going to the watching The Sound of Music on NBC tonight? It a live production and I understand that it's based on the original stage production and am looking forward to seeing.

I have read that Carrie Underwood was getting a lot of flack from people telling her that she's no Julie Andrews and that she shouldn't even attempt it. I guess those people forget that it was Mary Martin who originated to role of Maria, not Julie Andrews.

Hmm, wonder if Kate will be watching. Isn't SOM her favoritest movie? She'll probably get confused because this production is not the same as the movie.

Leslie, I saw the LPBW episode that ran before the tied together one. It made me sad to see how much Matt and Amy bickered and the twins have not progressed much except for Jeremy going hipster lol. I used to really like the show although Matt was annoying with his 'projects.' I didn't recognize much of the original farm! Amy seems like a nice woman and apparently her cookbook did well.Molly appears to be well-adjusted and bright.

-----------------

She's not going to take anyone's advice about anything. We know she reads here, and I posted a link about the shoulder thing, too. She tweets a pic of the bird climbing on Joel's shirt at his neck. I guess she doesn't consider that a shoulder. I'm also concerned about her cooking with Teflon, which can be toxic, using scented candles, and spraying Febreze. A friend of mine lost her cockatoo to Febreze. Kate has no idea what to do (and what not to do) with a bird.

I had a rescue come to me who was banded. Apparently the bird had been in a fight with another bird in the same cage, and the band was bent into his leg and was cutting off the circulation. I couldn't get in there to clip it off, so I rushed him to the avian vet and he did manage to save his leg. Right now I am nursing an Eclectus with a broken wing. I think she is going to be fine...such a sweetie. She's going to be a hard one to have to give up!

I'll be watching The Sound Of Music with Carrie Underwood. I wish her all the best and am not expecting an exact reenactment of the movie, which was of course based on the play with Mary Martin.
I think I heard that Florence Henderson once played on of the children.

I see Milo is pushing Kate's coupon site. Well, someone's got to do it and it sure as heck hasn't been Kate. Black Friday? Not a peep. Cyber Monday? Crickets.
AppThemes/Clipper must feel like jerks for signing Kate on or making whatever deal they made for her endorsement.
"She previously blogged for CouponCabin but wanted to have a coupon site of her very own."
Kate wanted a coupon site so bad that she hasn't mentioned it, not even a PEEP, in how long now?
And yeah, sure, kate left CC to start her own coupon site. Uh huh.
Idiots. You can't spin that positive any more than you can polish a turd, but I'm thinking they've figured that out by now.

Tuckers mom: Some disease can be given to any animal and we can get some disease from them. It's more on the lines of too much handling, sqeezing, grabbing, what the bird picks off you, on your clothes, your skin, perfume, chemicals you used, or were in contact with. Burning candles, non-stick stuff, those smells go into your clothes, your skin. That bird sits on your clothes. That kind of handling, and when you have 8 all wanting to play with the bird, it could be a death sentence for any small animal. Children sometimes, don't realize how tight they are holding an animal. Till the animal is sitting in the corner or puffed up as with birds. Also, draffs in ones house. Kate hopefully won't be airing the house out.

Sleepless In Seattle said...

TLC stinks: It is ok to handle your bird, a couple times a week or for an hour a day, too much handling will make your bird sick.

-----------------

I have been taking care of parrots for 20 plus years, and that's a new one to me. I have never heard of that. In fact, the opposite is true. Handling a bird often will alert you to any abnormal behavior that can cause an illness because you become familiar with the bird's behavior and body.

I know that it's not a good idea to give bird kisses because they can contract certain illnesses through saliva, but if you have a respiratory infection (depending on what you have) a good hand washing should take care of passing anything along to the bird. I have never heard that handling a bird for more than an hour a day can make the bird sick...I think that's just a myth. About.com/birds has some excellent information about the importance of handling a bird on a daily basis.

Agree. Underwood is very flat when not singing, but the rest of the cast looks like seasoned stage performers and are pulling this together.

---------------------

Birds have extremely delicate respiratory systems, which is why you don't burn candles in the house, or cook with Teflon, or spray room deodorizers in the house. You don't let them crawl around on your clothing, or in your hair. If you use these precautions (being aware of what is toxic to them and not allowing them to peck at your clothing or sit in your hair that might have hair products in it) then handling them isn't going to make them ill.

Kate, however, in her extensive research obviously doesn't know this. It just seems that she's letting these kids pass this bird around like it's a toy, and that is not a good idea, especially with kids that young. I would hope that they aren't rough with this bird, but sometimes kids can get overly excited in interacting with birds and squeezing or rough play will result in injury or death to the poor thing.

Virginia Pen Mom (7),
Interesting back story on DM! Just goes to show that TV is not as easy as it looks. I have a little insider info about those short segments on talk shows. Several days of preparation go into a few minutes of supposedly spontaneous chat. My DS#4 and some of his friends have made appearances, and this is a typical schedule for an appearance:
For several days before the show, DS#4 will get phone calls from people from the network who want to get information and get a "feel" for who DS4 really is. Hours of phone time. Sometimes he has been a guest on his own, sometime as part of a group. The day before the show, we fly into NYC and meet with people from the network. Lots of paperwork to go over, letting him know what is expected of him. Read this, sign that, Mom please sign here. Next morning, bright and early, DS4 is whisked away. He can be found in a conference room surrounded by people from the network, going over talking points, giving warnings about any unacceptable behavior (don't fidget, try not to say "umm" or "uhhh"), reminders to smile, hold your head up, speak clearly. Review talking points. His outfit has to pass inspection. Practice, practice, practice. Then into a car to go to the network. DS4 disappears while Mom sits and stares at the walls in the green room. For the next few hours, DS4 is whisked in and out of the room, being primped and prepped. On occasion, when there is a group of kids, some are "cut" just before going on the air. Someone comes in with a clipboard, reads out their names, and escorts them out. No concern for the kids' feelings. Then on the air for a few minutes, and it's over. Hours and hours of prep for one short segment. It's not just a few minutes of chitchat on the air. It is days and days of work.
That's what the little guy who cooked on the Hallmark show went through. It all looks so spontaneous, doesn't it? It is anything but. It is not just some kid popping in for a chat with the host(s). That's how I know that TFW's claim that the G kids are just playing in front of the cameras is a load of BS. Every on-camera moment is carefully planned and scripted so that it doesn't look planned and scripted. One of DS4's friends is doing the rounds now, and he is finding it exhausting and stressful. These boys have done the rounds promoting specific issues that they are passionate about. I can't imagine having to deal with daily filming like the G kids. No wonder the Gs have had behavioral problems. All that stress on a daily basis.

Wasn't there one point when it was announced that SOM was auditioning that all the sheeple thought that M would get a part and that's about the time that TFW was all things SOM with all the kids singing in the car all the time?

Layla said...

New stories are popping up about the kind of man TFW wants. 6 feet tall, good job, physically fit, no kids. Looks like she's going to start begging for a dating show again.
Anyone else see some red flags? I do! First, a man who is TFW's age (or close), who does not have kids, probably doesn't want them. Yet she wants him to take on 8 of them at once? Okaayyyy. If a man that age has not been married, then he probably either has commitment issues (or worse) or he is divorced. If he's divorced, then there's an ex-wife out there somewhere. Yeah, TFW will handle that really well. If Mr. Perfect is middle-aged with a good job and salary, then he has probably been working to build that career for a long time. Then what--he leaves the career behind and moves to Wernersville? Or does TFW sue Jon again to try to take away his parental rights and move the kids away? What if she loses? Is Mr. Perfect going to be okay with suddenly being expected to support TFW and all 8 kids? Will TFW expect him to play Mr. Mom so she can travel with Steve? And speaking of Steve, where is he going to fit into this new family unit? What if Mr. Perfect doesn't get along with some or all of the kids? What if the kids give him the old "You're not my dad, you can't tell me what to do" attitude? What if TFW starts hitting him? What if he doesn't breathe the way she wants him to? What if he doesn't come running when she snaps her fingers and yells, "Come!".
Red flags. Lots of them.

All of these comments about how to deal with your captive bird just enforces my thoughts of why a healthy bird should not be held captive.

If your bird is a rescue and can never fly again...then help him. If you have a bird that should be free and ummm flying in it's natural habitat...you should not have a bird locked in a cage for your own enjoyment. I'm sure the bird is bored out of its mind and gets irritated ...so it might bite (as some say) Gee I wonder why. Birds were given wings for a reason ...to be free and to fly!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

What Milo? Why WOULD"T Kate get all her boys excellent dental care?

The bottom line is she tweets a photo that shows her child having some concerning dental issues, then plays dumb. If you keep your kids' photos private this would never have been an issue.

Serendipity said...

=======

So you're saying that if you have a conure (or any other parrot) who is healthy and able to fly on its own, you should open the door and release him to the outside world? Do you think that bird will survive in its "natural" habitat...just let him fly free and learn to deal with sub-zero temperatures, being vulnerable to larger birds like hawks who will have your conure as a meal? Would that bird be happier in that environment rather than living in a home, safe, secure, well-fed with a family that loves him?
Not everyone who has a bird in their own home locks the bird in a cage for that person's own enjoyment. Yes, I would imagine that there are some who do that, the same as there are irresponsible dog owners who keep their pet caged all day, neglected and unloved. However, I don't believe this is true of all bird owners.

Starz22 said...

As for what TFW wants in a man? Well good luck to her. There is not a man in the world who would be willing to take on 8 kids from another father. Unless that man is hoping for a free ride and a tv show.
I'm sorry to be so harsh...but it takes a special man to take on another mans kids. I have friends who lost the love of their lives b/c they just couldn't deal with the kids...1 kid or 3...8 kids? Not gonna happen.
Add her horrific tv persona...she's going to get nothing.
TFW will find no one who loves her just for her. She is a bitch and too demanding...Unless she lands a millionaire who' s too stupid and has never seen an episode of Jon and Kate.
You reap what you sew TFW!!! Karma!

getofftwitter said...

Starz22: You forgot, we as a society, have domesticated certain animals, who no longer can live on their own in the wild. Certain birds not all, have been bread for generations, in a domestic way. You can not just open the door & let them go. They for one do not know how to get food or defend themselves from other birds, much less, find or make a shelter. Same goes for dogs, and other pets. Cats are the exception. They will go back to their hunting ways, and become feral. Yes, it would be wonderful to let them all go, and be free, but we have change them, they can not survive on their own. I and most people take very good care of our pets, they are like family members.

getofftwitter said...

Sleepless in Seattle: what kind of bird do you have? If it's a parrot, yes they do need lots of attention. The small birds: parakeets, cockatiels, canarys etc, have their limits, and do like to be left alone. I've had birds all my life 50 years, I've never had a parrot, I've had the parakeets & cockatiels nothing larger. There is a difference between the little birds and the parrots. Parrots need a lot more interaction, with their owner, than the little birds. In Kates house, like one person posted, they pass that bird around like a toy. It's a living thing, not a toy. I fear for that bird, because it only takes once for those kids to fight over that bird or if the bird bites one, I do hope that kids won't hit that bird, like they hit one another and the dogs. Any animal will become sick in time from that kind of abuse/handling.
