The Farmer's Wife: A rare case of when not paying a family for their work is a good thing

This week: Part Two

Realitytvkids.com will be organizing an official summer "book club" screening of The Farmer's Wife. Watch Part 2 the week of August 12, and Part 3 (link to come) the week of August 19 and discuss it as you go with all the interesting folks here. If you missed Part 1 it can be found here .

Juanita faithfully cleaned houses to make ends meet during filming.
The public was outraged when TLC disclosed in 2010 that the first time they ever set up a trust fund for a portion of the Gosselin children's earnings wasn't until November 2009, some four years after they first put the children on T.V. in May 2006. Up until then, the children had never been directly paid (Jon and Kate however have always been paid.)

Many advocacy groups for entertainers believe that reality stars, adults and children alike, should be treated as SAG members and paid fairly for their work (SAG regulations require that actors make a minimum of $4,800 per week). However some reality show productions do not pay, often because they cannot afford to.

Such was the case for filmmaker David Sutherland, the creator of The Farmer's Wife. His tight budget simply didn't allow him to give the Buschkoetters any payment for their three years of work. He even dipped into his retirement savings to fund the $1.3 million project. (Many donations from around the country however came in once the show aired.)

The result was a virtually untouched, brutally honest story of one family's struggle to make ends meet and save a marriage. The filmmaking was so intimate, the crew even once followed Juanita to a meeting with a particularly stubborn creditor as she negotiated their debt with him, successfully.

There were no "make-over" episodes or luxurious trips or other nonsense. Instead we watched a family fall down, hard, then pick themselves up, brush themselves off and figure out a way to make it on their own. If Sutherland had paid the family, it certainly would have helped them put food on the table. But would the story be as "pure"? Would we still be talking about this film fifteen years later? Probably not.

"It's tough watching it," Juanita was once quoted, "Only because it's really what life was like the last three years, really real."

Indeed, the "realest reality show" ever was not Jon and Kate. It was The Farmer's Wife.

Barb...I'm wondering if those inactive accounts could be Kate herself or some of her cronys trying to boost her count....NO DOUBT...BTW thanks for info

KAT, I bet the service you uses to buy accounts try to use more inactive accounts rather than fake accounts. I suppose, to some, it doesn't look as bad to buy inactive accounts rather than fake accounts.

I listen to a podcast, on the TWIT network, called The Social Hour. The last show addressed this very issue. Some companies will buy followers to look like they are more popular than they are(what a surprise!) But according to the hosts, that is an inauthentic way to use on Twitter. I've worked hard at developing my network and it has paid off for me as a teacher. I've learned so many new ideas and have implemented them in my classroom.

That's interesting Barb....so I guess if she gets caught she doesn't "look" as bad...

Another interesting Twitter fact. If you look at her pictures, even though her followers keep increasing, the views on her pictures are decreasing. If you look at older pictures, they have around 10,000 views. The most recent pictures go from 1,800 views to 3,500 views. She is losing followers, but yet someone she is gaining followers. It's obvious that she is purchasing followers.

AuntieAnn: I had to wear spoolies in my very fine straight hair every Sat night for Sunday School in the AM, or before special occasions. They were rubber so not as bad as rollers but maybe that's where my insomnia came from...I remember lying awake with those things poking my scalp.

Re: kangaroo pelt. That makes me sick if it's real, every time I see it. Kate pretended so much affection for the koala. To think her kids can cavalierly play with the pelt of a dead hunted animal is so against my principles.

Once a Viewer -- I think Levin was fortunate that his books did translate well to the screen. Stepford Wives is a classic. I read Kiss Before Dying a looong time ago. They did make it into a movie that I saw on TV. Hard to keep the ending of that story a secret in a film format. Matt Dillon was the bad guy. I am doing this for memory...maybe I should google to refresh my thoughts.

Dmasy said...

Once a Viewer -- the sequel was awful. I don't remember the details but I do remember feeling duped by a good writer who tricked us with a thin and contrived story. I was grouchy that I had read it! (Once again, long time ago....)

Yes, The Stepford Wives is the third one I read, also very suspenseful...the first film was pretty good iirc...the remake I never saw. I really hate when they remake decent films.Maybe I'll try Kiss before Dying then!

Dmasy, Once A Viewer and Ex Nurse - I've been using the glycine sticks for about two weeks now. Although I don't go to bed and sleep through till morning I am sleeping better and when I do get up (at least 2 times maybe 3) I'm able to get right back to sleep. It's got kind of a funny taste so I've been trying it in different drinks at night. Last night I had about half-a-can of the Ocean Spray sparkling cranberry drink (little 8 oz-ish cans). Anyway I poured it in and had a volcano reaction with the juice drink bubbling out of the can. I forgot that the glycine has a slight effervescence and mixed with the "sparkling" BAM! I was quite the sight trying to "slurp it up" while cleaning it up!

*Love Ira Levin! The Stepford Wives (book and original movie) gives me the creeps!
*Speaking of books, any news on Gosselinbook?
*Given the fact that the number of her picture views is going down and most of her Twitter "followers" are fake/bought, I wonder how many hits her CC blog is getting. I just don't see that load of drivel attracting an audience other than a few of her most die-hard fans. All 6 of them.
*I need some Tylenol.

My hubby goes to bed and sleeps like a rock. He falls asleep in seconds. I toss and turn and make a nest and fold my pillow ... and then watch the clock.

Some nights, I lie on the couch watching TV and wait for that elusive sleepy feeling. But, my the time I walk to the bedroom, it is gone!

On the nights when I can't sleep, I usually find something to do and wait for daylight.

Hubby shuffles out to the den and says something "sweet" like, "Can't sleep again?"

Looking forward to trying glycine. A few days ago I reported on Nyquil ZZZ It worked but I wanted to sleep the whole next day, too. Haven't tried it again.

Oh no, one Lorax shirt simply won't do for her 8, count 'em 8, children. Maybe she should send her holiday wish list out now for those teens to fight over. Truly sickening, all of it.

Where is that person arguing about Kate's freebies?

See this is what we mean. She can't take one Lorax shirt, she takes enough for all the kids. She gets a SHIPMENT of pop chips according to the tweet, not just one bag. She took guac and nail polish too.

Whatever happened to our moms teaching us when someone offers you a plate of cookies, the classy thing to do is just take one? Kate can't just take one like a polite person, she wants it all.

Dmasy have you ever tried white noise? I cannot sleep without the soft whir of the Bionaire air purifier on my night table. It lulls me to sleep. You can buy fancy white noise machines with different sounds like waterfalls or rain but the hum of the fan is what does it for me.

--------------

She tweeted a few days ago that she was on her way to Universal in Orlando and then to visit her friends and extended family, which is really funny since she couldn't do the cruise with Kate because she'd have to have someone push her around on a wheelchair. However, she can get around at Universal and do other traveling.

There's a reason that she doesn't want Kate to see her. When you are so enamored with someone, I would think that she would have made some effort to meet up with her somewhere at one of Kate's appearances.

I know what you mean! We have central air, but I still have a small fan going in the room to help circulate the air. It's been cool the past few nights and we didn't need the air conditioner or the fan, and when I turned the fan off, I realized that I couldn't sleep without the noise.

I had never been to Twitwheel. Interesting to see who tweets who. Apparently Paige is in contact with Deanna and desparately wants to meet Kate. It was Paige who tipped off Kate about the Gosselingirlz (someone else tipped off Paige and asked her to tip off Kate). Lots of fans and haterz bashing going on, but no hint of where Kate and Deanna spent that beach vacay. It's the same names over and over, so I totally agree that Kate does not have that many true twitter followers.

Can't stand how she makes the kids sit in a row close to the TV. Very bad for their eyes and strains their necks and backs.

Admin, we can call the party Outer Banks Rumspringa Beach Party, or Julia Child Birthday Party - She filmed in her actual kitchen so that was reality TV, right?
Now I am busy organizing activities so party goers must realize they have to stick to our schedule! And the password should be BON APPETITE! NO LIE!
Activities include reading from any Julia Child biography or her cookbook, a screening of Julia and Julia, an optional road trip to Ocracoke Island which includes a ferry ride with the opportunity to be seasick! It its mandatory to go to Facebook and take virtual backstage tour of the ORIGINAL TLC, The Lost Colony, with the reminder that even in olden times, people had children without the benefit of technology! What a concept!
Another optional road trip will be driving tour of Roanoke Island where w will have contest to see how many misdirections to Andy Griffiths farm we can get! Andy was much beloved on the island, and everyone knew where he lived, but were very protective of his privacy. So it has been a local joke of how lost can you get someone looking for Andys home and farm.
I will email you a couple of beach pix so party goers can find the way. Go to nags head, down to whalebone junction, turn right at the 7-11 and conned on down Old Oregon Inlet road. If you get to Bodie Island Light, you went to far. Turn around and go slow looking for the croc clad women crossing the road to the beach, followed at an appropriate distance by men carrying purses and beer.
And my mediocre values are that if you want to divorce your husband, why in the world would you want to keep his name? Hence Ms Kreider its the most appropriateish title to address her by.

Denny's at 4am I onder if she was at the OBX. Probably 1/4 the price of Baldhead Island. I'm sure it was AWFUL not to get the same quality that TLC got for her. That's just my guess as to where she was. Guess we'll never know for sure. Her kids start school in about 2 1/2 weeks,right? Well,back to shampooing my rugs.

Glad it's helping. I feel like it is working better over time and I do seem to need less hours of sleep. I take it with a mixture of fruit juice and sparkling water--in a tall glass. I still get up at least once a night, but can fall right back asleep.

The research on it shows that it improves the architecture of sleep, meaning, it increases the time in the deep restorative delta waves. When I had a sleep study, it was shown that, especially in the first few hours, I was in very light sight sleep, but since you are aware of your thoughts and surroundings, it feels like you are awake. That type do sleep is not restorative, My point is that even if you sleep the same number of hours, you may feel moe rested throughout the day,

I used to describe myself as "twired"--combination of tired and wired. Now, I feel more relaxed when it is time to go to bed.

LOL! I grew up with 7 other brothers and sisters (Yes: eight kids total, count'em, eight!) and that is the ONE thing that use to baffle my father. Especially when we were about the sextuplets' age, we would curl up three or four in the same big armchair to watch TV. He would pretend to be offended somehow: "Why on earth do you all have pile up on each other like that?! We have other armchairs, a big sofa... You look like a basket of kittens, for Pete's sake!" But we could see in his eyes that he was bursting with pride that we were so close to each other. And you know what? We still are.

I fall asleep listening to the adio show This American Life. It is a PBS production taped in Chicago. It's available asan IPod download, iPhone app or streaming on computer. The show started in the early nineties and features stories, essays and interviews around a common theme. There are over 400 shows in the archives and they cover a wide variety of themes. White noise/nature sounds just ev up my brain. If I listen to voices, my thinking stops and I can fall asleep. I usually listen to the parts I missed while getting up and dressed in the morning.

The show is really great with a lot of first-person accounts. There ae some regular contributors--Sarah Vowell, David Sedaris, etc, as well as interviews by the host Ira Glass. Informative, intelligent and humorous...the polar opposite of Dalits TV.

The website Is: Www.thisamericanlife.org

Anyone notice some tweets and pictures missing from Kate's twitter feed? Most of her tweets about 'grow a bf' and picture are missing. I finally took a peek at Em's tweets about having found it BEFORE Kate said the same thing and it's the exact same toy. Dumb luck they both had the same thing!

When is someone going to tweet her to ask her about the ethics of accepting 'gifts' from young children, especially children that are obviously pretty underage, like that girl from the UK who sent xmas gifts, I think she was 10 or 12 years old? So unprofessional of a self-claimed celebrity to accept gifts from children overseas and she has no idention of returning the favor either. All she wants is stuff from her fans. Her behavior is such a turn-off.

If Kate was an organized and neat as she claims to be, she would HATE getting free stuff sent to her constantly. I can't stand the amount of junk my kids bring home from school and the library from corporate sponsors. They are given pens, stickers, posters, magnets, coloring books, activity books, flags, and are encouraged to collect shit to get more free stuff. The library gives passes to local fun parks of the buy one get one free variety. It is total consumerism and catching the market young and it is junk cluttering up our house. I don't want cheap quality movie promo t-shirts either. So I just don't get Kate at all asking for the samples and such. I think she does sponsorship deals where she gets the kids lifetime movie passes to wear those t-shirts, and her beloved gift cards. I can't see her carting the junk home.

Yes, Let's Throw Tomatoes, I absolutely remember her saying that. At the time, I still thought of them as a struggling family and thought it was nice of fans to send Xmas gifts for the kids. Guess what? That was the FAKE Xmas. AND, I believe every gift in that fake filming was from fans. Who knows what happened to that stuff, but you can bet a few days later they quietly celebrated their real Xmas. So you can only imagine how thrilled people were to see the kids excited over their gifts, a subtle way to keep grifting.

It's strange. When they're babies, their cry will waken you even from a deep sleep and when they're older and they go out at night, it's never a deep sleep until you hear that key in the door.

Unless you're Kate, that is. With her it's out of sight out of mind. And the more often they're out of sight the better.

Once - I'm laughing. My DH also falls right to sleep and starts to snore loudly. If I give him a little push (not a Kate smack a gentle shove to get him to roll) he always claims he's not sleeping. Only man who can snore while completely awake I guess.

I wish I could say, now, that I still feel sorry for those 6, but I don't. They have everything they need plus. They will have the problems in life that all children have but they will also be privileged, as they are now. Their mother is a witch who obsesses over greed and the life of a TV star. They are the children of a divorced family but they have each other and will overcome, eventually, in life their mother's control. This witch sinks lower and lower begging for 6 or 8 tee shirts vs 1. She grifts from the teens who twitter her. She begs as a low life, which she is and has proven it. Never was she a class act, never. The G8 will be okay.But we should never pity them or else they will also become grifters like their mother. The apple does not fall far from the tree. We should give them every opportunity to be normal,even if their mother won't. Steve should be ashamed of his involvement with Kate and the grifting campaign they have conducted. His involvement in her life and guidance (boob job, shorter skirts, etc.) may have been her final downfall. His constant appearance with her (bodyguard?)may well be her downfall 100% now.It is that old saying about "fooling some of the people all the time, but never all the people all the time", I say this is wonderful news. The children have their father, his family and their mother's family when they are old enough to be making their own decisions. Mention Kate Gosselin's name and no one does anything but laugh. Seeing that animal pelt in her living room last night on Twitter? Sick, she is sick. Shoka cannot come into the house? But a dead animal pelt is positioned in that formal living room while her children are posed for another photo for the Twitter account.
I look at the photos of Kate 8 yrs ago and now? So much plastic surgery work, so much money spent on what? Steve believing Kate needed to look like Pam Anderson? Well, he forgot Kate couldn't buy the talent that Pam Anderson has. One thing Kate couldn't buy with all of that money was talent. The joke is on Kate. So Kate grifts and Steve grifts from Kate. Too funny when you think of it.

I think Kate is disgusting, for making the kids sit on the floor, on what looks like bed flat sheets or blankets, directly in front of the TV. If Kate truely is a nurse, than she should know, you should not sit that close to any TV. Whats wrong with putting the sheet/blanket on the couch, as a cover and letting the kids sit on that. Jeez, is Kate twisted.

If you are looking at Kate's twitter feed at twitter.com, next to the word Tweets is the option of select All/No Replies. It automatically default to No Replies, which only shows Kate's tweet or retweets, that don't include any @mentions. You have to click on All to see her replies.

All her pictures are still there. If you click on the link for a picture she has tweeted, on the right side of the page is a a slide show of all of her tweeted pictures.

I don't think she has deleted any tweets or pictures. However, tweets that she replied to may not show up, only because that tweeter(usually Milo) has deleted their tweets.

Kate new CC blog is up: this time about how she saves money on buying used video games, and limiting her kids use of such equipt. and use their imaginations. Kate only uses the tech equipt for travel. The 4 port. DVD players, and 2 handles game stuff. Though she fails to mention the Wii, she got free, with games, that her kids through enjoyed, commentor mentioned, and wonder if Kate consigned it. Another useless blog, nothing new info. Stuff people already knew for a couple of decades.

So true about not sleeping until all the kids are home. I was like that even when my youngest was in his 20's. Now all the kids are gone in their own homes and now I can't sleep if all 3 of my dogs are not in my room. When my grandkids spend the nite they want one of the dogs to sleep with them and I don't sleep well.It's funny we get used to something like the dogs sleeping with you. But that key in the door was my sandman when the kids were here. Also,I think Kate had the kids on the floor because they were eating an ice cream cone. Not that I want to defend her or anything,but I don't blame her for not wanting the kids eating ice cream on the furniture. They're still babies,you know. Good grief.Back to shampooing carpets. Another worthless blog at CC, titled "Skip the Video Games and Get Creative!"

Kate stresses that parents shouldn't use electronic games or television to "babysit" their children at home, but to let the children use their imaginations to create fun.

BUT when they travel, "All eight are SO happy to have some rare alone time with any of our six Nintendo DS’s or our four portable DVD players that they are quiet for long periods of time....."

"I urge parents to encourage imaginative play at home so that the modern miracle of electronic gaming can save you when you travel! It works, trust me!"

I have no problem with the fact that the kids use electronics to keep than busy while travelling, but does she have to brag and specify how many they have?

The only savings tip was to purchased used games or equipment at Game Sport.

So, does she think this is a revolutionary new idea that she dreamed up? Yawn.

Amazon is also a good place to go. There's just no getting around you don't save money by being a gamer. It is an activity that costs money and all you can do is restrain yourself, or don't participate. Any gamers out there? I've been floored by Red Dead Redemption, LA Noir and the Uncharted series. I don't believe a word of them not using the games other times. Plus all those laptops. I do agree with using one's imagination- what parent doesn't- but she didn't create the concept and her kids are not 'better' than any others. Most kids love to play house, school, just make up games, use board games, dolls, trucks, whatever...and these kids have the Crooked Houses, mechanical cars, may freebies other children do not. Plus a POOL. yes they argue and bicker and hot one another.

We would have out kids play hangman, I Spy,listen to music, sing, other paper-and-pencil games on trips.

Oh- also re: Ira Levin. Isn't there a sequel to RB where the baby(Andy) is an adult? I heard it had bad reviews and I feel I don't want to try it....my imagination took this story forward! But if others enjoyed it maybe I will try the sequel?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, the book you're talkingabout is "Son of Rosemary". I'm happy that I got a copy from the library rather than buying it. It was HORRIBLE.
SPOILER ALERT - if you don't want to know the ending of Son of Rosemary, please stop reading now....
SOR is very confusing - it starts with Rosemary waking from a coma, to find out that her son, Andy, is some worldwide public figure, motivational speaker, etc, but it turns out that he is the devil. Here is the ending; Rosemary wakes up and the entire sequal is a dream, ditto for the original Rosemary's Baby book, because she wakes up as a young bride hoping to get pregnant with her hubby (hub from the 1st book). I know, confusing. Kinda like the ending of Dallas when the entire season was Pam's dream.
Off Topic.....for an excellent author, has anyone read James Patterson or Tess Gertinsen? Both are FANTASTIC. TG is a medical doctor who now writes mysteries fulltime. The series on TNT, Rizzoli and Isles, is based on her books. Trust me - you won't be disapointed with her books, but you need to read them in order. Her website has the list. As for JP, I can't say enough good things about his books - The Honeymoon, The Alex Cross series, etc...
I'm enjoying this break from talking about Grifty...she is so BORING, and since nothing new is happening, its time to stick a fork in her..(hee hee)
ITA, Kate should not accept gifts from stangers but she cannot help herself. Grifting is what she is all about. When are these knucklehead sheeple going to understand that this woman has plenty of dough. She does not need anything. Kate is teaching her kids to grift, for example some anonymous fan sending a gift to Cara and Mady. IMO, those kids are spoiled anyway.
Oh, and this is a hoot. A sheeple fan commented about the Lorax on-the-floor pic how well behaved the kids are. Is that person freakin' nuts? The kids are ALWAYS lined up feet away from the tv. Terrible, uncomfortable. Do you think those kids have any freedom with their controlling mother? Because I believe the threats fly in that household. Frankly, I think after the picture was taken those ice cream cones went into the trash. I watched too many episodes of Kate freaking about about messy clothes to believe for one second any of those kids got to finish those cones.
I loved Sliver The Book, the ending was great. The movie was annoyingly simplified and didnt come close to the book.
If there is a book sequel to Rosemary's Baby, I dont know. But a movie was made with Patty Duke putting in a brief appearance as Rosemary. I thought the theme and the gist of the movie was ok, but it was done in typical 70s psychedelic manner and annoyed me. Just my opinion. The book might be much better.
Advice please...
My insomnia can be predicted, sort of... if I don't do the following...
Here's what I do to try to avoid it:
1. No caffeine after 2 pm
(this is traumatic - I live for fresh-brewed, strong black unsweetened iced tea with lots of ice; not tooo rigid, right? LOL)
2. No TV or computer for 2 hours before bedtime
(something about the screen lights not allowing body's natural melatonin to work)
3. No bright lights in the house
(something about the melatonin again... I really need bright lights to see, but oh welll)
4. no exercise for 2-3 hours before bedtime
5. very, very light snack around 8 PM like 1/2 apple, or a carrot with hummus
6. sometimes a warm or cool shower works to relax me (not a tub person)
7. try to take a book to bed an hour before bedtime to read with low light - usually makes me sleepy
8. sometimes 50 mg of benadryl - but makes me droggy the next morning
9. sometimes 5 or 10 mg of valium if I absolutely, positively HAVE to get to sleep
(I hate to 'waste them' on such a silly thing as insomnia because I have only a small prescription which I like to save for in case I "really" need it (basically I like how they work but don't like the idea of taking a tranquilizer/muscle relaxer - total valium taken since January = 3 pills)
The worst thing I do when I can't sleep is get up, get a yummy tasting snack (= hi cal, hi carb) and plunk down in front of TV. Once those late night shows get me, I'm a cooked goose - end up watching until 3 or 4 to see how the end. Ugh!
*** *** ***
Anyone else have any holistic or tried/true remedies that haven't been mentioned? I ordered some glycine....
Oh, DH just mentioned that I seem to have no trouble getting to sleep on clean sheets.... hmm, psychological perhaps? Clean sheets are so yummy.......
Jackie Kennedy always had white house staff change her sheets immediately after she'd gotten up. ALWAYS had fresh, new sheets. Perks of white house? Bet she slept well....... LOL
When I was growing up, we lived in a big house that sits up on a hill. When I was coming home at night (and this is when I was 21!), I'd look up at the big bay window in the kitchen. The light was always on. There was my mom, sitting at the table, playing solitaire. I always asked her why she was waiting up. Fleecing The Sheeple, ah, how I wish my daughter would have felt that way then. But she was very independent and strong-willed (comes by it naturally) and she was eager to spread her wings. At that time, she said it bothered her so I handled it another way.
Now that she's older and a mother herself, of two little boys, she NOW says how she understands some of the things I did when she was growing up! She also has made comments that she's not looking forward having to deal with 2 teenage boys wanting their independence.
I tell her sometimes that I get a kick out of how she is now accepting and understandsing of the things I did when she was growing up now that she is a mom herself.
I know it's been mentioned, but advice for those of you that have trouble getting to sleep at night - please put down the phones/mobile devices/tablets and turn off your computer/TV. These glowing screens are messing with our internal clocks signaling when to wind down for the night!
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Suzy Q, you are so right about this. Even through closed eyelids , many light spectrums bleed through into our brains, and impair our ability to manufacture melatonin, which is essential for sleep. If you must have a clock lighting up in your room, get one with a dim RED lighting, the red spectrum bleeds into your brain the least. The blue lights are the worst. And we should shut down the electonics at least 30 minutes before bed.
Kate was at Gulf Shores Alabama, according to twitter. A woman named Danita Coger tweeted Kate saying she sat right by her on the beach, and Kate confirmed that this did occur. Danita's public facebook page shows a "rear" shot of Kate and the kids frolicking in the water. She said Kate was with "3 other people". I think I see 2 other adult females in the picture but it is hard to tell. I sure do see Kate's no fun allowed drill sergeant stance. What a kill joy. Note to Kate, no amount of running has changed your fat looking ass....
DebbieDowner -- I enjoy Tess Gerritsen and also like the TV series based on her books. I'm not a big Patterson fan, but I do enjoy the Women's Murder Club, featuring with Lindsay Boxer. I've read a few of the Alex Cross books but for some reason they don't grab me. Robin Cook, especially his early books, is a favorite of mine and I also like Michael Crichton. My favorite of his is "The Andromeda Strain". The movie is very good, too. One that H'wood didn't screw up. I liked the TV movie "Look What's Happened To Rosemary's Baby", with Stephen McHattie (drool!!) as Andrew and was sooooooooo disappointed and let down when I read Ira Levin's follow-up to RB. Loved that book and also the movie -- another that H'wood didn't screw up. It's been a long time since I read "Sliver" -- is that the one that features an apartment building (I don't want to say too much for fear of spoiling it for others)?
Is there room for me on the dumb bench too, Dwindle? I've gone to the twitter account to look at pix, too. Is my face red!
I don't normally have trouble falling asleep except when I'm having an asthma flare. Those bronchodilators leave you really wired. I fall asleep to the sweetest, most natural, all organic white noise there is -- a kitty purring in my ear.
Another for the KK lexicon -- "setting the record straight".
I wrote up pose that Kate's kids would become grifters and low and behold a pkg arrives, a gift, for M & C and how excited they are. A big thank you from Kate. See, it has started, these kids think "everything appears out of no where" never have they witnessed "budgeting" "waiting until we have the money to buy something" as everything appear out of no where. The children are spoiled but that is her and Jon's fault. I suppose if Jon now says "I can't afford to take you any where" that the kids cannot understand his talking like that. "Cause all Mom has to do is wish for it on Twitter" or as she has done since they were all born, give those talks about "how she kept her children, she will raise them, she will manage somehow, even if she has to go back to nursing" and more bull from Katie Irene, the lying witch, Gosselin. She makes me sick and that is nothing compared to people who have met her, know her and were raised with her. She is dispicable to even someone raised with religion. And by the way, where is the dog, Shoka, lately? Lord only knows. Wonder what she says to those kids before they stay at someone else' house overnight"don't tell anyone about what we do, they all hate us?" Probably, otherwise, info would leak out and she cannot afford that. And all the paperwork she has to do? What? Open mail? Look through catalogs of items she will grift for? I will never believe she went anywhere further than Del or Md and hid those kids until sunset and then let them on the beach. Honest.
I had to laugh at the one who said how tall the kids are! TALL? They were sitting down!
Once - I'm laughing. My DH also falls right to sleep and starts to snore loudly. If I give him a little push (not a Kate smack a gentle shove to get him to roll) he always claims he's not sleeping. Only man who can snore while completely awake I guess.
==============
I'm laughing, too. Mine will sit on the sofa with his paperwork spread out, then his head will go back and he will start snoring. I'll gently wake him and tell him to go to bed. He'll say, "I'm not sleeping. I'm wide awake. I'm working." With his eyes closed? He'll push the papers around a few times and fall asleep again. Repeat the waking process and then he gets a bit miffed and says, "I'm not sleeping!" Finally I give up.
A few things:
I have tried Valerian and St John's Wort as well as Melatonin, and also some Chinese herbs the acupuncturist gave me ( used with 'pressure beads' that are stuck inside your ear- the beads, not herbs!) for insomnia. For me, none of these worked. Also OTC things as well as Rx's that do not work. I do take Clonazepam for anxiety and it helps with that but doesn't put me to sleep- these Glycine sticks are the first OTC thing that does work, and I'm a tough case ! The things Permanent Name suggested all help but aren't solutions for me :( I have had the problem for 25 + years starting with night shifts- couldn't sleep in the daytime. Became an anxiety issue.
As well as insomniac here, we have quite readers' club! I love all the suggestions. Yes, Sliver is the apt. building book, Readerlady.
I also wanted to mention Kate usually says her desk is full of paperwork- now how did those bills jump into her purse and why take them unpaid to a talk show?
I also have trouble getting to sleep, staying asleep, and getting back to sleep when I wake up.
I also have the ID or Bill Curtis channel on, with the volume just high enough for me to hear their droning voices. I caught myself jerking awake so I could see the ending, so the perfect solution for me was to dvr the episode. Now I subconsciously know if I manage to get to sleep, and am really interested in the ending, I can watch the saved program. For some weird reason, that last step has done the trick for me. Since I now am able to get into a deep sleep, if I wake, I can get right back to sleep. (After I dvr whatever new program is on!)
This trip, they had to DRIVE...on her own gas, go to a DENNY'S, and do their own cooking...long way from her TLC glory days.
Couldn't happen to a more un-deserving person-lol!
But, it's been a yr since the pink slip. What a difference a year makes, lol.
KAT,
I laughed out loud at the microwave story! NOT that it was funny-funny, but that your 4 year twins must be giving you grey hairs!!! It's amazing what good kids can do in the blink of an eye - and they always think of the damnedest things!!
Who would ever think to teach your kids "now don't put jewelry in the microwave sweetie" ---- we're too busy telling them not to cross the street without an adult, not to go with strangers, etc....
KAT, you have my admiration - they will be grown before you know it. Enjoy every moment becasue time flies.
Dmasy,
Me too about sleeping in the car! On trips I sleep for the first couple of hours because I just cannot stay awake.
As for alarm clocks, I finally got one that the numbers fade to black unless you hit the top bar to see them. Laying awake through the night staring at the clock with bright time, it was a stressful killer!
For the third time, because that's supposed to be a charm, no way were they in LaMarque. There is no beach in LaMarque, it is at least 30 minutes from Galveston. And why would she come to Galveston anyway. It is not a pretty beach. The Mississippi river pours into the Gulf at New Orleans and the currents pick it up and sends it this way. The water is almost always brown except for winter when a front comes through and then it is blue. You need to go out quite a ways to get to the blue water in summer.
Those of us who live close to Galveston go because it is close and it is a quaint little town, but pretty water it is not.
Another worthless blog at CC, titled "Skip the Video Games and Get Creative!"
Kate stresses that parents shouldn't use electronic games or television to "babysit" their children at home, but to let the children use their imaginations to create fun.
BUT when they travel, "All eight are SO happy to have some rare alone time with any of our six Nintendo DS’s or our four portable DVD players that they are quiet for long periods of time....."
"I urge parents to encourage imaginative play at home so that the modern miracle of electronic gaming can save you when you travel! It works, trust me!"
You are absolutely right, Kate is a twit.
And as the FB poster said, Kate just stood there watching, I am sure she did, and when she decided she was done, she likely huffed it on back to the beach house leaving the unpaid nannies to shlep the kids and stuff back, where Kate would be plating tiny portions of food while exclaiming how exhausted she is.
Kate must have been so depressed during her vacation! Wasn't she suppose to be on the cruise, on a beautiful ship,beautiful islands, without the yucky kids, her Steve,and the best part it was going to be free and she was also going to get paid during this time! The only negative was meeting her fans!
Poor Kate ! So sad!!
Kids -- you gotta love them. I just grilled some cheeseburgers for mine. I had gone back to the refrigerator to get more milk (yes...our kids actually drink milk even though it's not on sale)! Youngest was looking at the dog. I looked at her plate and saw that daughter ate the burger very fast. I asked her where her burger was, and she pointed to the dog. "Charlie wanted it. Need another one." Charlie was licking his lips. Probably thought he died and went to heaven.
Hey CCM:
I'm from the Boston area! Love the Cape.
Did Swifty buy the house? I thought she'd rent...because of that rule you can't stay in a Kennedy home or something? She' s dating this 18 yr-old junior in HS; she's 22. Nothing wrong with that- I like Taylor's sweetness and role-model ways. She's amazingly talented. I don't know why she has had so many 'unfortunate romances' as my mother referred to such things!
I'm sure Kate will tweet her- too bad she couldn't have spent her 'vacay' near you- jk, wouldn't wish that on ya!
Summerwind, haha! My daughter used to feed her brussel sprouts and cauliflower to our golden retriever. Then I actually made her try them and she liked them.
My grandsons used to feed their veggies to our german shephard. However once they started picking them with us, they didn't mind trying them and they liked them!
Oh, I wonder how many kids got out of sitting at the table till they finished their plate, only because they had a faithful pet under the table waiting to be fed ! Lol!!!
It's probably about 50- 75 yards behind where Kate's standing...in the (I'm assuming) grifted beach house. If you google some images they look nice
We get a beach house on the beach at OBX (not even airconditioned)but we set up every morning..blankets, towels, coolers, boogie boards WTH
This is a blockbuster read on Jon and Kate, the early years, from 2005. The good folks in Berks County are very upset that Kate is asking for year 2 with Nurse Krall, paid for by the State. Jon shows up in the comments to tell them they can't believe what they read in the press, and then gets nailed as a mother provides the link to show what Jon has been saying on a triplets parents chatroom.
It is an unflattering view of both parents and shows why they have no fans in Berks County.
@Kateplusmy8 Bob & Beth also paid for Gosselin8 1st year in private school
When did Kate stop talking to Beth? 2008? The six Gosselins started Junior Kindergarten in September of 2009. I highly doubt that Beth and Bob shelled out for the Gosselin8's first year in private school if she wasn't even talking to them at that time. It's never been confirmed that Beth and Bob paid for any of the kids' tuition.
Lovemygrandsons: sorry to hear you are sick, get better soon. I'm still on meds for the rest of the week. They make me tired.
As for kates' Blog, it's what she did't say, that makes me want to kick her ass, cause: Kate is the person who will not do research, she only reads the back cover, and pretends to know the story or I'm an expert. If kate had done a little research, she could have added, that Amazon, and other places do game exchange, and research to see if there are coupons for games and who has games on sale this week. Just like the school supplies, no mention of, check your schools website to get the list from their teacher, so you can plan what stores have the best deals, and no mention of free school supply tax days(vary from state to state), or pool care: no mention of safe guards for pools, children, and learning CPR. I could go on & on. What she blogs about is stuff everyone has known for decades in some cases or called common sense. What I find amazing is the stupid ones who comment, on Kates blogs, saying how they find her blogs full of helpful info. Maybe if these young moms, would listen once in a while to their parents, they will hear the same thing and more better advice.
mama mia . . . this is why I don't trust Jon either. They are both lying grifters IMO and, unfortunately, that is what they are teaching their children.
That was years ago, and it wasn't only the people in Berks County that were upset about it since the funding would have come from the state. However, it's not true that both parents now have no fans in Berks County. Jon is well liked. Can't say the same for her.
