Discussion thread: Hodge Podge Dinner

Kate Plus 8
Hodge Podge Dinner
TV-PG
June 27, 10 p.m. EST

For the first time ever, Kate lets the kids take over her kitchen, from baking treats to planning their own meal. They are off to the dialysis center where she and the kids hand deliver baked goods to those undergoing treatment.

Kate's tweet:
AND: who's going to watch K+8 tonight& tweet w me? LAST new ep until August I think....catch it tonight! U wil be grossssed out!

Well, admin, it looks like you might get a break in July watching/recapping episodes. You definitely deserve one, with all the effort you put into this blog.

Tonight's episode...is that all Kate can think of, that she's grossed out? What about how her kids attempted to fix dinner on "their own", for once? Or how they helped her make a kind gesture to those sick and needing dialysis? Nope, apparently that's insignificant to the mess they made in the kitchen or how badly dinner turned out.

Again, this is just callous for TLC to air this episode after feeding hungry families last week. It's worse that Kate is tweeting only about this gross dinner - does the kids' attempts go to waste, as well as the food? Kate, some families would eat that 'gross dinner' if that's the only thing they'll be eating tonight.

I know kids who would save most of their free basic school meals for home because that is the ONLY food they would eat that day. Some of them would even share it with their entire family; otherwise, their loved ones would go hungry.

I'm curious if the Giant twitter photos were for this episode:

I kind of doubt there will be new episodes in August. I can totally see TLC telling her that now, then telling her soon that no new filming will be done anymore.

So you might get a permanent break from re-capping, admin. Whoooo! And those kids might actually get a permanent break from having their identities sold to buy their mom the lifestyle she could never afford without them.

As for her constantly calling her kids' attempts at making dinner gross? Well, like all narcissists, she's an asshole. We all saw how she berated and insulted her husband at one time. Why would her kids ever be exempt from her assholery?

gramof5 said...

What a miserable bitch she is ! It's so obvious that she can't stand her own kids.
They are scared to death of her. Just the tone of her voice shows she has no love for them and they are just props.
There will even be less when this show lowers the final curtain, the lights are finally removed from the ceilings, and the extented family is sent on their way.
With any luck, she will give Jon full custody when the famous 8 will no longer be bringing in the money to pay for her mini-mansion and cheap hooker clothes.

Notice how Kate says and annunciates "A LITTTTLE BIT OF SUNSHINE". She sounds like the witch on the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy meets up with her.

Dallas Lady said...

Also, I can't for the life of me think of what else has been filmed but not aired. Didn't the tups birthday air? And "Easter." And tonight is "gross" dinner (because the kids made it, so it's gross).

What else is there?

gotyournumberKate said...

She's like a drill sargeant with those kids. How can they ever have fun with her when there are so many rules? My granddaughters stayed with me a few days at Easter time and we colored eggs, drew with markers, dug for fishing worms, decorated cupcakes, played with playdough and moonsand. Never once did I tell them to not make a mess. Of course we put newspaper on the table but if they dropped something on the floor it was no big deal. I cleaned it up without saying a word. We had fun! Kate has no idea how to have fun unless it's coming from a bottle or hobnobbing with the rich and famous.

Kelly said...

I doubt that anyone going to a dialysis center is remotely interested in eating cookies while sitting in a chair with blood going out of one arm and then going back in. Cookies are the last thing these people want at that moment in time. How staged.

Sport said...

Holy crap.

First time I have seen a video and heard the Shrew talk in some time. FRIGHTENING. Does her surgically altered face even have the ability to smile anymore? The woman cant even relax and be fun and normal. What is going on with her face? Is The Joker hiring new henchmen already?

Her whole vibe just screams BITCH.

I dont get the whole smugness, I'm so cool bullshit she tries so hard to portray? Very awkward and not at all fun to suffer through. Unbelievable with the stupid Trash Bags on the counters, too. Who is she kidding? She doesnt clean or pay for cleaning herself. What a complete hag.

She manages to find a way to suck the fun out of every activity and moment of their lives. Way to ruin a goofy, relaxed afternoon of baking with mom. She obviously 'livz4herkidz' and just loves to be around them doesnt she? I call BS.

Truly a vile, disturbed, completely nasty and narcissistic witch of the highest order.

PJ's momma said...

I saw it on ROL and I can't get over how rude and just downright mean she is. My mother was like that and she didn't pick her battles, everything was a battle. We were terrified of her! And again with the narcissism. "I" decided we would visit the dialysis center where I used to work. "I" don't like messes. "I" just found my sweeper." "I I I......." Yawn. Her eyes look dead; she shows no emotion. Joy is a choice sometimes. CHOOSE JOY! You have 8 healthy, beautiful children! Enjoy them instead of managing (and working) them half to death. My GOSH!

Unfortunately in our District the kids are not allowed to take their school lunches off school property for liability issues. If someone other than the child ate the lunch and got sick they could sue the school, I guess is the thinking.

It's good that we have the ability to sue but I wish more people would take personal responsibility for their actions.

This is what saddens me the most too. Really, to me the filming is just a symptom of the Kate not loving and cherishing these children. These children have one nurturing parent and that is Jon who I pray to god does end up with custody. Kate's voice is cold as ice,and her outside appearance is begining to really reflect her inside bitterness.

Kelly said...

Holy Crap, if the rest of this show is as horrible as this promo, I don't know how anyone can watch it. The stern look on Kates face and the rules and regulations she constantly puts out there turns this fun activity into a detention activity.

Notice how she diminishes the little girls pride by yelling "OH MY NO NO NO..... MOVE BACK CHILD... You're the sweeper. I've found my floor sweeper when we're done. TIS YOU" What a nasty person and just look at the expression on the poor girls face. She reminds me of those cold and callous catholic school nuns I had to endure through grade school. How cold and nasty they were when you made an innocent mistake. They relished the thought of intimidating us and not only verbally abusing us but physical abuse as well. Those poor poor kids. They diminished our self esteem in a room full of 50 kids, our age, our peers and there was nothing we could do.

"It turns into a mess, you're instantly done."

It must be fun to bake knowing the second you spill even a granule of sugar you are banished from the fun. My hand would probably be shaking.

Kids are CLUMSY they are kids. There is no reason they need to be careless, but a little mess comes with the territory when you bake with kids. For some adults, they take ENJOYMENT in seeing kids get really into it. Have the kids HELP CLEAN UP AFTER, PROBLEM SOLVED.

Sorry Kate, your underside is showing!

"What else is there?"

There's the show she and the twins filmed at the cupcake place and Annapolis while the tups did some outdoor stuff at home. There's also a question and answer show that she talked about on twitter. I'm sure it's hard to generate ideas now. No bucket list trips hopefully.

Charlene said...

That clip just infuriates me!! The kids are scared to death of her. What mother expects to bake with eight kids and not have any messes??
When I bake by myself I make messes with flour, etc. Just fill your sink with hot soapy water, clean as you go, then wipe everything down and sweep the floor when you're done! Not rocket science!! I can understand her not allowing them to get wild and start throwing flour at each other, but that is beyond ridiculous. Messes are inevitable when you have kids, and she should have learned long ago to just deal with it. When she told the tup who was trying to wipe sugar off the counter into her hand that she had to sweep, I wanted to reach through my monitor and choke her!! The poor thing was trying to clean up the sugar and Kate goes off on her - WTH. Those poor kids are going to be so screwed up, it makes me sad for them to see the way she treats them. I don't know that it could be considered abuse, but she sure is projecting her issues onto them and I hope someday soon they tell her to "Get the Stick Out"

Midnight Madness said...

Notice how the kids are so afraid of making a mess that they can't enjoy the baking project? What kind of mother acts like this? This is absolutely unconscionable. How could you live with someone like that?

And -- what in the name of all that's holy is wrong with her FACE? She's aged a few years since the beginning of the year!

Filming a baking episode at home certainly is a far cry from gallivanting around Australia and New Zealand. Has TLC put the kibosh on traveling as a prelude to pulling the plug?

I was starting to feel a bit sorry for her when I read her tweets because it's clear that she suffers from some kind of mental health issues in addition to not being able to shut her mouth. However, after watching that brief clip, there's no way I can feel any kind of genuine concern for her. She's just a miserable Mommy Dearest shrew. Plus, she's nuts.

So shoot me, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe it would be better if the kids DID get dragged on trips all summer. At least that way they can be with nannies and other interesting people like the Palins.

All these episodes filmed at home like they are stuck in some kind of nightmare kiddy boot camp with Drill Sergeant Sourpuss in charge look like torture.

I don't really want them dragged on trips but this is not much better.

I'll have to agree, I'm an RN (with a BACHELORS Degree, unlike Kate). Cookies BAD idea for dialysis patients. Most of them are also diabetics, so even if the cookies are sugarless or they use splenda it's still not good for them with all the carbs.

I get a lot of dialysis patients on my floor. They go to a dialysis room in the hospital, have dialysis then come back to my floor (a cardiac floor). Most of the patients come back nauseated and not feeling all that well.

Handmade cookies from someone's home....made by children? I can't believe some dialysis center even allowed this. OR that Kate (a dialysis NURSE) would think this is a good idea.

Or that the patients even wanted this attention??? Weird.

Flour doesn't stain. Sugar doesn't stain. Baking powder doesn't stain. Baking soda doesn't stain (in fact it gets stains out!!). Eggs don't stain. Milk doesn't stain. Water doesn't stain.

The only two ingredients that remotely might stain are vanilla, and chocolate. So just remind the kids to be careful.

After they're done, spend two minutes with a towel and some cleaner. Done.

When we cooked with mommy she had little kiddy aprons for us. We thought it was fun to wear an apron and mom doesn't have to worry about spills on our clothes.

Years ago, when my oldest son was 10 years old, he wanted to help me paint the kitchen. A daunting chore for any adult but he was my little buddy. I said, WTF and gave him a paint brush and showed him which square of wall he could paint on, knowing it would be caked, uneven and I'd eventually have to paint over it. He loved being part of the chore and just being with me, doing what "Dad" does.

He knocked the can of paint over, all over the tile floor. Yeah, I was pissed and yeah, it was one hell of a mess but I didn't freak out on him and told him, "Don't worry Mike, it was an accident" He kept apologizing and I kept saying, Don't worry.

We put down more paper towels to absorb the paint and used more plastic trash bags to hold the paper towels. We got it cleaned up and we both took a break and drank a root beer. His self esteem was intact and he still felt like he was "helping Dad". Yeah, he totally f'd up the grout with the eggshell paint but to this day, he doesn't know, doesn't remember and on that day, he was still Dad's helper regardless of the mistake.

Seeing those poor kids who actually WANT to be a part of an activity, the last thing they need is rules to help. Just by the fact that they are asked to help, part of an activity and feeling proud that they are accomplishing something should boost their self esteem.

Kate takes this opportunity to diminish that, act like a big boss and take away the fun and pride they may have felt is just so sad. How awful for these poor kids. I truly feel sorry for them.

Kelly said...

I do have to admit its nice what Kate and the kids are doing even if the patients cant eat cookies.

Smoochie said...

Kids not be messy in the kitchen ... heck, most adults I know, myself included can't keep a kitchen completely pristine while baking.

I'd love to see how she would handle what I would do with my kids, nephews and nieces. Picture 7 gingerbread houses (one for me too!), enough candy to probably complete 12 (cause it's no fun if ya can't eat some too) and bowls of royal icing. Only protection was old shirts for us, a $store plastic dropcloth and tablecloth, cause royal icing is like cement when dried. Its a yearly tradition and they look forward to it every Christmas, I mentioned not doing it last year cause my nephews are now in university ... ummm heck no they said, its a tradition (been doing it for 10 years) and for now they want to keep doing it, said its part of Christmas to them and I love it, mess and all!

You couldn't pay me enough to watch this woman "Lord" it over on her kids.
She is a b*tch. I can't get over how she yells at one of the girl tups (don't watch so I don't know their names) for touching her hair and in the next scene she's pushing her straw hair out of her own eyes.

There is no redeeming quality in this woman. She's more concerned with the countertops than her own kids - notice how the countertops are covered with plastic (is her kitchen that nasty that she has to cover them to seal out the germs?) She could have had the kids using gloves to roll the dough out, and wearing aprons and hair nets if she was that concerned about germs.

Oh my goodness, Admin, something you said resonated with me and brought tears to my eyes. First, I am 47 and I STILL make messes when I bake. It's normal. It cleans easily. I grew up with a grandma who was in a part of old Mexico when it became New Mexico. She had dozens of grandkids, but she made us little girls aprons. I mean, an old fashioned apron with a bib and neck strap, ruffles around it, and a tie in the back. Mine was white with little red tea kettles on it. We each had little rolling pins too, to help with tortillas. Talk about a mess - she mixed the masa (dough) with her hands and had flour in her hair sometimes. She'd give us each a little piece and tell us to get busy. Of course they were terrible, not round at all, and she'd tell us not to worry, they don't go in rolling so they don't need to be round. She made a big fuss as she cooked each of our tortillas and served them to us hot. She would never tell us that she could whip through 10 of those things in the time it took us to do one - but I could totally see Kate doing that as she competes with her children constantly. What cherished memories. I wish I still had that tiny apron, though I do have the rolling pin. I pray the kids retain some memories like that because they are so young that they will not remember all the trips they have taken.

Question to iphone users: Is battery use that bad it can't last a day on one full charge? Or, does this go to show just how much Kate is constantly on her millionth pink iphone? By the way, I thought they were filming today so wouldn't she be too busy to play with her phone?

A few years ago, first brand new TV I bought in years, first high def one. Big expense. Day 3 I come home from work and my niece is over and has my then wife's fingernail polish and is PAINTING silver sprinkly glitter nail polish all across the screen. Wanted to scream. Even had made up a few choice new words on the fly in my head.

Instead I took away the nail polish and grabbed her and we jumped into the pool and goofed around for a half hour and laughed and hugged. Thankfully my wife and her sister had cleaned up the TV mostly when we dried off. (Although to this day, as a second TV, you can still see glittery sprinkles on much of it.)

Some of my favorite celebrity chefs make a mess in their kitchen, even when they're filming!

They don't complain, they just clean it right up with a spare rag.

That clip above reminds me of when Jon cooked the Korean dinner and made a mess with the fried rice. It's no wonder Jon didn't offer to make more family dinners. Kate would probably yell at him about the mess, rather than thanking him for giving her the night off in the kitchen. Jon's dinner looked yummy!

I don't think she was lying about her battery dying either. That was not what I was implying.

I was merely suggesting that the reason her battery is dying is because she is constantly on her millionth pink iphone. Like you said, you need to recharge yours after constant calls.

Why would she be on her phone for much of today if they were busy filming another episode?

It seems like many smartphones these days can't last beyond a day, depending on use. Just curious about the iphone, since I own an Android device known to be a battery-hog.

You'd think that after all those years of being yelled at for the smallest of transgressions, those kids wouldn't bat an eyelash when she screamed at them. But a couple of them have that look on their face like they have been yelled at for the first time. What that tells me is that she needs to consider that each of them have separate personalities and Kate needs to be aware of it and be less harsh with certain ones. I'm sure little Hannie can handle it though. Hell, I'll bet it won't be long before she tells Kate to go f**k herself. Lordie bee, she IS needy! Before her tweeting frenzies, it was obvious that she was mentally "off." She never should have taken on this twitter thing because all it has done is confirmed what we already knew. Wrong move, Kate, very wrong. In addition, we've found that the sheeple are very much like her. They are needy with low self-esteem. They feed off each other and are like peas in a pod. Only problem is that when she is done with them, she'll cast them aside. They'll be left on twitter with grass all over their faces bleating, "Where did our shepherd go," as they cry out in abandonment.

Kate is joyless and, as others have noted, she sucks the fun out of everything her kids do. There isn't an ounce of warmth in her voice when speaking to her kids or in the voiceovers. She's constantly setting them up to fail. A smile and a little encouragement have a much more positive impact on a child's development than constant admonishment, especially from one's parent. I hope those children are receiving genuine positive feedback from someone in their lives.

Why doesn't the hag grab a laptop or something for her Tweet binges? It's obviously easier to type on a keyboard than to use her expensive red rat claws on an iphone.

Every damn thing in her existence MUST come with drama and screeching and difficulty.

Anonymous said...

Administrator said...

If she's tweeting every eight minutes, which is what the math tells us, it's no surprise her battery is dead by the time the episode airs at the end of the day.

****

You might want to work on those math skills. As I type, she has 3,422 tweets. If she were tweeting every eight minutes, on average, that would be 180 Tweets per day. At that rate, she would have reached 3,422 tweets in 19 days, and she has been on Twitter much longer than that. Why must you always exaggerate? It does nothing for your credibility.

I can't stand how supposed germophobe Kate stood over top of the cookies while eating one of them, even to the point of crumbs dropping from her mouth onto the cookie tray. I guess HER germs are ok, for dialysis patients nonetheless.

Also, I thought she wouldn't eat anything the kids made? Yet she allows them to cough all over and handle the food at a soup kitchen and cook treats for sick people.

My iPhone can hold a charge for a good 4 hours with me and/or my kids doing a lot of web surfing, checking email, playing games and watching videos. Given how much she twitters throughout the day, I don't think it's unreasonable for her to charge her phone before doing a live tweet during the show.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Anonymous you must have missed our conversation Saturday where someone pointed out she twatted 120 times that day. Assuming a 16 hour day, with eight hours for sleeping, that's one tweet every 8 minutes. The math is right. That was a particularly manic day but it did happen.

Any which way you slice it, over 3,000 tweets in three months (she started in April) is over 1,000 a month, or about 33 a day. How any mother, much less a mother of eight, has time to twat that much is beyond me.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Actually let me amend that, how any PERSON has time to twat that much is beyond me. It's sad. Her daily dose of socialization appears to be largely on twitter, not from her real life.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I just did a quick count of her tweets today, anonymous, and in my hasty county I got at least 105. She was just 15 shy of a typical 120 manic day.

I didn't say every DAY she twats every 8 minutes, I said it's not wonder her iphone is dead if she's tweeting that much. I'm not sure how you deduce that I am claiming that since April she has tweeted every 8 minutes, since I never said that.

So, no new episodes till august(doing the happy dance, no Kate for a month!), I wonder why? Could it be TLC weaning her off? Besides the filming that was mentioned, Kate said they filmed today. And it took her this long to realize, what all of us knew about a week ago that the lawsuite was dropped(Kate said they did not have a case, Kate does not read anything does she? A bird has a beak not teeth)? Did Kate not tweet that her 'security team reads the blogs and internet' did they not tell her, I thought one of her sheeple did? Now she is talkin about getting puppies from the dog? Is she a lunatic!? Take care of the dog you have Kate, don't make anymore animals. And taking cookies to the dialysis patients was a bad idea, I wonder how much money TLC paid the dialysis center?

I just watched the clip, GEEZ! is Kate anal. They are kids Kate they make a mess. That is what brooms and mops are for. I always helped my mom when I was the tups age, with cooking. So, I made a mess, cleaned it up and moved on. My dogs still make a mess(go in small trash can, in living room, shred tissue)I don't kill them, just yell at them, call them a couple of freeloaders, or who made this mess(they hide). I usually end up laughing at them. Kate does have a very big stick up her but!

It is really sad that last epi. she said she would not eat food her children prepared, but yet she wants dialysis patients to eat food her KIDS prepared. So not good enough for her but good enough for patients that are struggling with their lives. If they are in dialisys, a lot have had problems with diabetes. If that is the case, the last thing they need are COOKIES or startches like that. What a dialysis patient might need mroe are books on tape, magazines to read, music to listen to while they receive treatment.

Part of the process of learning to cook is learning to clean up the mess. If you decide that it's a lot of work to scrape cookie dough off the walls, then you are careful not to do that. If you prefer minimal cleanup, you make minimal mess. But you have to learn this by experience, and at the ages of 7 and 10, the process of learning is in its earliest stages.
Kate seems unwilling to allow the kids to experience much beyond trips. They could use
some exploration of their environment in a whole different sense. They do not need to have every move they make micro-managed, just supervised. Messes can teach us how to do things better the next time. Then we clean them up.

Poor kids. I hope they got some fun out of it even with the warden barking at them. It could have been such a special time for them.

I started baking with my grandkids as early as they could stand on a chair and help dump stuff in. Around 2 yrs old. At 4+ yrs old they were making cut out cookies for Xmas. I just showed them how and left them alone except when they asked for help. I had a video cam running to have it on tape. Didn't realize they were licking their frosting knives til I watched later. It is one of my most precious memories. I plan a dessert to make almost every time they are here. (they expect it now years later)

I am beginning to think that since the kids have to work at filming all this time they should have had a show alone w/o the bitch. Tie her to a chair behind the camera and gag her!!

So sorry to those of you who equate Catholic school to Kate. I did 12 years Catholic school, some boarding school, Jesuits part of college, and it didn't kill me. I'm not bitter. We were "tracked" and I was always in a high track, we couldn't mess around and talk back but no one was mean. We had high expectations placed on us. One day a friend at the public jr high had "bring a friend to school day" and I was happy to go. Good lord, the kids were standing up, throwing things around, yelling out windows, paying no attention to teachers---I was happy I was not a student there. It would have been impossible for me to achieve anything. I'm grateful, acatually, although at the time of course I thought I was put upon. And yes we did have 50 kids in a class.

Not long ago I stopped at a JambaJuice around 3 and in came about 20 girls, nice, polite, well-mannered, not screaming---obviously from a nearby private school. It makes a big, big difference. Morals and ethics are also stressed, which seem to be sorely lacking at home.

Who cares? We have a ball and it all wipes up.

The little girl she belittled...her sad, taken aback face...I'd just like to shake some sense into Kate. How can ANYONE justify this behavior?

I'm so glad I don't watch this show any more. Sounds like a horrible episode. I feel sorry for those kids. Kate obviously never learned that the more tense you are the more likely you are to make a mistake or have an accident. No wonder those poor kids seem afraid to breathe when she's around.

BTW - Kate does not have an associates degree in nursing. She doesn't have any kind of degree. She graduated from a hospital school of nursing. The nursing courses are the same as for degree programs, but there are no additional courses, such as history or English, which would lead to a degree.

Why would she feel the need to lie about even that? At least she did mention the local wild life expert was helping her, meaning what that (s)he made the nest, brought the nest to the site, installed the nest in the tree then placed the baby bird in the nest? Kate made an impractical nest, no biggie. Kate lied about it and took credit for someone else's work. Guess no biggie there either since it is just her normal. (Her nest was cute. Why not just tell the truth that it wouldn't work?)

I have been disappointed more than once that the show was going away, but judging from the comments here and the snippet from admin, I think this time may be the real deal. Why, oh why, does TLC insists on airing such an imbecil? Lousy production, lousy acting, a mother who treats here children like dogs (and we know she doesn't like dogs). Anyway, the whole thing is sad and not the least bit uplifting as TLC spins it. Not a fan of reality shows in general, but this show is the worst on air.

Is it just me that finds Kate's attempt at sounding intelligent annoying yet laughable at the same time? "Aaden, I wouldn't shake that cup so... avidly". She stumbles across the word, probably trying to think of it in time. Heaven forbid, Kate sound like the common-folk and replace avidly with a NORMAL word like "much". Reminds me of the time on ET Kate said it was necessary to "submerse" yourself while training for DWTS.

JudyK said...

I don't care whether that word works, no one says that and I thought it sounded strange and awkward, so I lauged when I read your comment...it's Kate trying to sound smart. She reminds me of a young attorney who worked in the law firm I worked for. He would write letters to clients who proably didn't have even a highschool education and begin them by saying, "This is to 'memorialize' our conversation, blah, blah, blah." He was trying to sound like a hot dog and no one talks that way anymore, even if the word is correct...it sounds like something from another century. Yep, Kate is simply trying to be a "hot dog."

FUN? What FUN? I haven't read most of the posts here yet, but in watching that clip, I would have to say, I would probably purposely spill something just to be able to walk away from the verbal abuse! It is just not worth getting yelled at the entire time. Supposedly, Kate was the one who came up with the idea for this episode. Why on earth would she pick a topic (cooking with kids) that she obviously cannot emotionally handle. HEY SHEEPLE, why is it entertainment to watch a mother verbally abuse and embarrass her children on television?? I only saw that short clip, I cannot imagine what the whole 1/2 hour episode was like.

Nobody Likes a Narcissist said...

Wow, I just tortured myself by watching the video clip. She is beyond horrible. I feel so bad for her kids. Like everyone else said, she sucks the joy out of EVERYTHING! Most moms bake cookies with their kids at some point, and it's supposed to be fun, not just for the kids, but for the mom too. Sheesh, that stick is more like a ten foot flagpole!

Having seen clips and read reviews over the last year or so, it looks to me like Khate is always in drill sergeant mode with her kids. I think it's mostly her personality, but part of it is probably due to the fact that it is all a SCRIPT. She isn't just doing ordinary things with her kids while it's being filmed. Rather, she and the kids, are WORKING! It's more than obvious that TLC gives her the script as far as laying out the guidelines for the EPISODE, what "storyline" or theme they've come up with, and what she and the kids will be doing. So, Khate views it as a job, certain tasks that she has to get done for the episode, specific things that she has to get the kids to do, etc. I can only hope that she isn't quite this horrible when the cameras aren't rolling.

By the way, I just caught up here after being unable to read the last few days. Admin, your posts, recaps, and comments are excellent as always. And, I have to say that this is one of the very few blogs (on any topic) where you just can't skip reading any of the comments. Everyone here has such good insight and comments that are not to be missed.

Okay, so are we placing bets on what last night's ratings will be? Another tick downward? Will there be some excuse again for not getting the ratings reported, or reported late? What sheeple excuses will there be for low ratings again? Not enough promotion? It's summer vacation time and people are away? It was a full moon last night and the sheeple were too busy outside howling??

I am seriously wondering why they keep this show on the air. Wasn't it JUST A WEEK AGO where she trying to help the hungry? And now she is wasting food? This woman is so ass-backwards how can anyone keep up? About Kate using the word "avidly". Does anyone remember the Friends episode where Joey had to write a letter for Monica & Chandler & he used the thesaurus for the whole letter? I don't know who said it, but I too say I read avidly. This whole "perishing" thing is ridiculous. Never heard it. It's just Kate trying to add in all these 50 cent words, making herself sound smarter than she is because we all know she is dumber than a box of rocks & she butchers the English language. Whatever though. She can say what she wants. She can't make herself famous by using big girl words.

So, there are no new episodes until August, but they're still filming this week? How many episodes are already in the can, one or two? I'm just wondering when this new stuff is going to air and how many more episodes they'll show this year. I looked back on last year and it seems there were nine episodes last year, and last night’s episode was the ninth episode this year. But, there is no pattern whatsoever.

Last year, the show debuted in June with two episodes, then didn’t air again until a month later. Then, that was followed by four episodes in a row from August 31st to September 20th. After that there were two episodes in November, three weeks apart.

This year looks totally different. The season began on April 4th, 2011 with the three Australia/New Zealand episodes airing three weeks in a row. Then there was just one episode in May on May 2nd. After that, they aired four weeks in a row from June 6th to June 27th.

It all seems so random. I'm thinking that maybe the worst case is they'll air episodes in August and September with the already filmed summer stuff, some more summer episodes and then the usual back to school boring stuff. I know I’ve read speculation that the contract is up in February, but I really can’t see any more episodes airing beyond the end of this year. Hopefully filming will stop once the school year gets under way so that the kids can FINALLY concentrate on school and just relax and be kids on the weekends. Here's the breakdown so far:

June 6, 2010 - Two episodes
July 11th
August 31st
September 6th
September 13th
September 20th
November 7th
November 28th
----------------------
April 4, 2011
April 11th
April 18th
May 2th
June 6th
June 13th - Two episodes
June 20
June 27th

@Jenna,

I didnt want to spam the blog with more cell phone talk and tried to find your email to send you some more tips.

A few things to save more battery power:
Turn of WiFi when not in use or out of area, same with bluetooth and GPS. Also change your 'screen timeout' to shorter, maybe 30 seconds from 1 minute. Also when putting back in your pocket or whatever click the screen off manually rather than allow it to timeout itself - saves a lot.

You can also check your battery usage in settings and it will tell you exactly what is using all your power, normally its 95% screen (the new ones are gorgeous.)

Sorry everyone for the tech talk....

One more thing. If Kate relied on TLC to plan, arrange, and pay for their trips this summer but now there are none scheduled, I think these kids deserve a real vacation for once. Haven’t they earned it by now? Heaven forbid she think of somewhere to go with them, privately of course, make all the plans on her own, and pay for it. There are many, many vacation places within driving distance and many places are set up to accommodate large groups, usually extended family. I have seen many beach area vacation spots where the rental houses have sleeping arrangements for ten people or more. Usually large groups of extended family go together, and the cousins love sleeping in bunk beds, four kids to a room, or something like that. Just because she has eight kids does not mean she has to spend a fortune on some extravagant vacation. She can easily find an affordable vacation spot and rental that can accommodate them all and provide a nice relaxing, PRIVATE vacation. Have these kids ever had a real, private, non-filmed, family vacation??

But, I have to say, my real hope for the kids is that Jon can take a week off this summer and take them away somewhere private for a family vacation. I’m sure the kids would have a great time alone on vacation with him (and Ellen). I hope he at least has the time to take a week off and have them for the week. Even if he can’t go away, there’s nothing wrong with a week off and some fun day trips, and quality time together. I can’t remember, did he even get them for a full week last year? I have never in my life drafted or seen a custody arrangement where the noncustodial parent doesn’t have the children full time for at least one full week a year, usually in the summertime when school is out.

I didn't watch the show, but I did watch the clip. Holy cow, is she a mean, unloving woman! She has a remarkable talent for sucking the fun out of any situation.

I'm glad she told us how much she hates messes, because of course most of us LOVE messes! Just the thought of having to clean up a kitchen after baking makes me tingle in my secret girl parts. Sigh. It's like people who go ON and ON and ON about how much they hate liars. Really, snowflake? Most of us LOVE liars!

I also think the baking thing is a metaphor for the attitude towards life that Kate is teaching them. NEVER EVER EVER MESS UP! Are you miserable and scared to move? Good--you won't mess up. Because cleaning up a mess is the worstest thing ever!

Yes Kate, we all try to avoid making mistakes. But, mistakes are inevitable. The thing to do is clean up and move on--and sometimes, the way you clean up and move on is more important and more telling of character than the mistake.

Disclaimer - I haven't seen the episode just the clip above.

I do not fault Kate for wanting to be organized and setting some ground rules with the kids before starting the cookie making. However, she really needs to learn how to talk to her kids.

I'm sure what she was concerned might happen is the kids would start getting overly silly and a food fight might result. Not an unreasonable concern with little kids but it probably won't, especially if you use kindness and are firm.

So you say "Today we're going to make cookies. We're going to have a lot of fun but we're not going to get crazy. This is what you do." Then you model for them what you expect. After, you let them start working. If someone is getting silly with the dough, putting it on their face or throwing it or if they start using toomuch sugar YOU STEP IN AND ADDRESS THE BEHAVIOR AS IT HAPPENS WITH A KIND BUT FIRM TONE. You repeat your expectations and simply ask "It looks like you want to play instead of make cookies. Is that true?" If the kid says yes, you can let them go play or tell them to read until everyone's finished. If not, then simply say "Okay then I need you to make cookies not fool around. Show me how you make your cookies."

As is par for the course with her, everything is extreme because ultimately Kate is a control freak and a narcissist. The garbage bags on the counter and the "on penalty of severness" attitude are to show what an organized mom she is and just how hard she works. I stand by my assertion that Kate loves her kids, but she loves herself more and in the end it's all about appearances for her.

I secretly hope she would be more laid back if doing this type of project with the kids sans cameras, but unfortunately I think the only reason she does do it is because of the cameras. I think her routine when on her own with the kids is to sleep in, the kids play by themselves in the am, Mady and Cara probably help feed them and get them dressed. Once Kate wakes up, the ask to go in the pool. Kate nods and says "let me get my suit on" and then sits by the pool and twitters while they play. She takes them in and supervises as the twins help get their grapes cheese and cracker lunches ready. Kate hangs out in her office or does her own thing while the kids do their own thing and then they have dinner and then go to bed.

I hope I'm wrong and she does more with them but unless they're filming, I really doubt it.

My son made me brownies last week & they were delicious. Oh, & I know he licked the hell outta that bowl... :)

If the mix has raw eggs in it, you want to be really careful. A friend of mine's two-year-old did that a few weeks ago and got very, very sick and spent most of the night in the ER. She's not allergic to eggs, but the doctor on call said that you NEVER want to lick batter that has raw eggs in the mix. He's seen cases of salmonella, or sammonnella, as Kate says.

As a teacher, I read here a lot and only comment occasionally, but I must address what I saw in this clip.

Educators must be knowledgeable about the emotional, academic, and social issues that impact student achievement. Robert Marzano conducted some of the most important research on this topic. He talks about AFFIRMATIONS and PROHIBITIONS that children receive in the home. These verbal statements either increase or decrease a child's sense of self-efficacy (the belief that one is capable of completing a task). High poverty students typically receive twice as many prohibitions as affirmations in the home per week, and middle class kids are the opposite.

In his words, "Affirmations are statements by parents that elicit independence and self-efficacy. For example, telling a child to 'keep trying, you can do it' while she attempts to tie her shoes is an affirmation. Prohibitions are statements that foster dependence and inhibit self-efficacy. For example, telling a child, 'let me do that so that it's done right' is a prohibition."

Kate's exchange with the girl in the striped top who spilled the sugar (was it Leah?) is a classic example of a prohibition. Kate raised her voice and threatened the child, shaming her for spilling a tiny amount of sugar and giving her the "punishment" of being the sweeper (effectively making her clean up all sugar spilled in the activity). The little girl's head was down and she avoided eye contact. If Kate had used an affirmation, the exchange would have been more like, "You're doing a great job of rolling the dough in sugar! The patients will be so excited to try your cookie! I see a little sugar spilled there, so I'll give you the broom when we're done and you can take care of it. Keep at it!" This would have increased the girl's self-efficacy and made her proud of her cooking and still responsible for cleaning up afterward.

From what I've seen over the years is that Kate gives many, many prohibitions. I'm certain that at school and when they are with their dad this is mitigated, but I wonder if she ever looks back at these clips and recognizes that this pattern of interaction is damaging to the children's self esteem. Every word you say to a child has an impact...

If you had a narcissist for a parent, you lived in a world governed by whim enforced without mercy.
Having a narcissist for a mother is a lot like living under the supervision of a six-year-old. Narcissists are always pretending, and with a narcissistic mother it's a lot like, "Let's play house. I'll pretend to be the mother and you pretend to be the baby," though, as the baby, you'll be expected to act like a doll (keep smiling, no matter what) and you'll be treated like a doll -- as an inanimate object, as a toy to be manipulated, dressed and undressed, walked around and have words put in your mouth; something that can be broken but not hurt, something that will be dropped and forgotten when when something more interesting comes along.

She's still doing the juvenile, "I know something you don't know" thing. I guess she recognizes that her fans are tweens and teens and this is how an adult talks to them - trying to be their bestest friend.

Kate is making an obsessive-compulsive mess out of these kids. I'll never forget the time that Jon took the boys golfing and Collin cried because he got dirt on his shoe, knowing that he would be in trouble when he got home. All of the kids are terrified that they might get dirty. I'm sure it's the same way in the home. The kids walk on eggshells, afraid that they'll do something that causes Kate to fly into a rage. These children are emotionally and mentally abused, no doubt about it. If there's any justice in this world, the day will come when all 8 of them will tell her to go to hell and then will walk out the door and never acknowledge her existence again.

Thank you for your concern though. :) I have heard horror stories about that kind of thing happening. By the way, in one of husbands brownies, there was a huge egg shell. What did he do? He picked it out & didn't say a word & ate it anyway. My son was so proud that he made those brownies. :))

When we were kids, we ate batter mix with the raw eggs right in there, and nobody thought anything about it. We also ate raw pie crust dough. We didn't get sick...guess we were really lucky. Could be. I thought her arm is sore because she was standing in her front yard, waving to any passers-by in hopes that they are paps, begging them to take her pictures so she could tweet that they are harassing her.

Dallas Lady said...

Exactly what Kelly said. My husband works in the industrial and engineering plastics field and when I told him about this, his actual words were, "what kind of idiot would DO that?" (use garbage bags to cover a food prep area)

Well, Kate, that's the idiot who would do that.

Having now watched the clip, she's extra idiotic, because wiping down those smooth countertops would have been LESS work than laying out and TAPING together all those NON-FOOD GRADE plastic garbage bags, then having to peel them all up and wad them up to throw them away (also, the environment does NOT thank you, Kate, you selfish piece of work).

What is her major malfunction? Is she super pissed that she isn't traveling the world with a team of people to handle the kids? Trapped in her mine-all-mine mini mansion with those eight kids she calls "child?"

Everything people have said about that clip is totally true. LOOK AT HER EYES, if you dare. They are dark, soulless, dead. She looks about as happy as someone going to get a root canal.

When my daughter was about four, I bought a plain canvas child-sized apron and some fabric paints, iron-on decals, and sequins. We had a fantastic afternoon decorating it. She had me write with the fabric paint "Mommy's Little Helper" and she put on the other decorations, with my help.

She's 17 years old now. She wore that apron SO many times as a child, helping me cook and bake in the kitchen and they are such sweet memories for both of us. It still hangs in the kitchen, and I will NEVER get rid of it.

I do greatly dislike Kate Gosselin, but part of me feels sad that she won't ever know how to have a close, loving relationship with her children. Kids are easy, they love you unconditionally! If you can't have a warm relationship with them, you can't have a warm relationship with ANYONE. Period.

When she snarled at Aaden not to shake that sugar so "avidly" (I'm an English teacher, so I think I can safely put this to rest: no one uses that word that way), he was so sweet! He stopped, thought about it, agreed with her.

You know what he's going to do in about six or seven years? His reaction to her overly controlling bitchy ways will be to completely ignore her (that's the nice end of the spectrum) or yell something not very nice at all at her (that's the other end of the spectrum). He seems to have a naturally sweet disposition, so she might get luckier with him and he'll just ignore her for his own mental health sake.

But there's a few kids in there who will NOT be so kind to Miss Thang. And it will be her own little hell. She'll RUN from them, mark my words. They already have her outnumbered 8 to 1. When they start to really find their voices and explore their power and get angry and hormonal, she's going to beat a fast path away from them.

Ok. That is my dialysis center. I wasn't there when they came and didn't find out til the newsletter came out. But I hope they just brought the treats to the workers and didn't come into the treatment area. I'm not even allowed to have my mother there so those kids shouldn't be running around. The last thing I want to see on dialysis is a strange kid. And it's an unacceptable risk of infection. Plus it could be too scary for the kids. A lot of the patients are old and very sick and the process of dialysis looks scary. I didn't watch the episode but I really hope they only took the kids into the other areas of the building.

Is she still teasing and throwing out hints with the "my arms are sore" comments today? Are her tweeties begging for her to tell them?

I think the reason her arms are so sore is she took all the kids' money out of their accounts, put it into her Ann Taylor shopping bags, and buried them behind the house:)

Point on! What parent talks to a 6 or 7 year old with words like "Avidly" or calls their kid "Child"? For that matter, what parent keeps their 6 or 7 year old in high chairs? In any event, I don't watch the show so I don't know what transpired other than the clip that Admin posted at the beginning of this thread but from what I saw of that clip, I can't believe that TLC would use that as a marketing piece to lure viewers. It was abusive and I cringed for those kids with her bossy attitude and that blank look on her face which showed absolutely no emotion, no love and exuded neither charm nor maternal instinct. So, the ratings are just a little up. They are still not good. I think some more sheeple, and fans will defect. Cause after this episode, if they are any kind of good parent, I hope they ask themselves: would you treat your kids that way, for tryin to make a meal on their own? Would you use a garbage bag on your counter-top/table, so your kids don't make a mess on your floors? Considering, that those bags are petro made and are not to be used for food? And not even taste the meal and treats the kids made, cause it was gross, but it was ok to give to a dialysis patient? And belittling your children on TV if they make a mess? Freaking out or my favorite being anal, about making a mess. These are questions I hope these sheeple/fans of Kate will ask themselves. If they don't question this episode, and think it's ok, I feel sorry for their children.

OK, confession time. I watched. OK, I listened more than I watched because I was working on a baby blanket. Some observations:
1. Her face is whack.
2. She is so rude and mean. I hate the way she barks orders at those kids. And I hate how they contribute so much to the waste stream. Paper bowls and plastic spoons. Do these people not own flatware and plates?
3. There was nothing gross about the dinner. The kids picked all processed food. Burritos, cream cheese/bagels, fruit, veggie, doughnuts, etc. The 'grossest' thing was sardines. She still serves them in those lunchroom trays (4 raspberries for you, 4 for you) while they wait in HIGH CHAIRS. The kids loved their dinner. They did not cook.
4. They did not appear to enter the dialysis area. Kate's old coworkers were filmed, including the nice lady who very thinly veiled that Kate was not nice to work with in that previous video. She tried to show the kids the machine, but she couldn't remember all the tube placements (which is understandable after all this time), but she made sure the kids could recite the process for their couch interviews - and they said she sucked, haha.
5. The couch interviews. Sigh. The kids are cute; all kids are. But they're average and 7 year olds should not need subtitles and 9 year olds should not be filmed with their arms crossed all the time.
6. When someone is so gracious to her and thanks her (such as the nice checkout lady), she either lamely mumbles 'thanks' or says 'ok' or just walks off. She should be saying, especially in that circumstance, "No, thank YOU!"
7. Her face is whack.
Upon reflection, I actually watched the birthday episode which re-aired before this one.
8. She is so snotty. When greeting parents at the kids' party, she actually said, "I don't think we've met." Er, what if you have met them? (I have made this mistake, as I meet 'jillions' of people through my husband's work.) You smile and say, hello while you extend a hand, or in this case, "I'm so glad you could come!" But no, she moves on to another parent and reiterates that she remembers THEM, but not the others. So if those moms HAD met her and see this episode, they can be insulted all over again.
9. She stated at least 20 times that she was so stressed. If you are so stressed, why do a scavenger hunt and all the other stuff? Why cater PB&J (and throw in a remark that you used the fun bread once and was the bestest mom in the world)? Just enlist the help of your friends, get an assembly line going, and make them! What am I saying? I am amazed Ashley is still around. She's just as mean and rude to her as she is to the kids. She truly seemed shocked that she didn't invent the term fluffernutter.
10. She went party planning in a nice, flattering jersey dress. Then I saw her teetering through the parking lot, while talking about being stressed, and her shoes were party shoes. Stilettos with a ruffle on top. Good lord. Again, totally dismissive of the bakery lady who was being asked to whip up this concept cake in a day or two.
11. Who wears a strapless, short dress on a 67/raining day when she HAS to get HER scavenger hunt stuff out in the woods? She wore a hoody thing over it. And wedges. Hint: If you need a hoody, you need pants and practical shoes.
12. Her face is whack.
I could go on - I mean, this show is DUMB as dirt and boring and I can't believe it is still on. It has got to be on the way out; nobody will continue watching these stupid-ass home episodes. What a waste of time. Including mine! Never again. I did almost finish the blanket though, so bonus points for that.
Go ahead and flog me for watching but trust me when I say there's been plenty of self-flagellation going on here already.

Jeanne: You are right, my mother was a dialysis patient, and went to an out patient dialysis clinic, she had late sat afternoon, with 5 others, so I was allowed in the treatment area, but I had to wash my hands, and wear a mask. I was allowed to sit with my mom, roll around in her wheelchair. They do clean the machines with an acid solution, and it smells. This clinic usually has about 25 people a shift. The last shift on sat, usually has about 5-8 people. And children were not allowed in the treatment area. Infection was always a worry, My moms connection was not on her arm yet, it was on her chest, and I did not see the episode so I hope they did not let the kids in that area, cause children are full of germs and I had to have the shots the patient got because I was a part-time care giver to my mom. So anyone , were the kids allowed in the treatment area? If they were, then that clinic should be reported. And those patients should report it.

I didn't watch the show, but saw a video clip- what a miserable witch she was! Not sure when this was filmed but there was some thinly veiled anger more so than usual. Maybe because she was not on a fabulous vacation trip paid for by TLC, maybe because she was "forced" to do some "normal" activities with her kids, which she would prefer NOT to do. Or maybe TLC delivered some bad news to Kate just prior to this episode, and she was pissed! We all know how well she contains her anger. Sara Palin Alaska episode, Skywalk in NZ... and now this. She is getting bitchier by the moment and on film, rather than her shrieking, fake laughter for the cameras. Seems Kate is not happy AT ALL with the role TLC has chosen for her, in an attempt to see IF her image can be repaired, and sadly, she is worse than ever. The real Kate is coming through, as she is angry, disgruntled, has to actually be a real hands on Mom, and she is pissed as hell. Could be wrong but she was not even trying to be fake on the video and seemed very pissed off. How dare TLC script a show with her as a mom with no glamarous vacations. Something is really amiss, and her true persona came through loud and clear. Let's just call her Kate and Bake. She is her own demise.

Kate said her arms were really sore from a fun project they filmed yesterday....Hmmmm. A pumpkin patch maybe? Seeds can be planted before or around the 4th of July for harvest for the ''new'' Halloween special, ''8 Little Pumpkins.''

Just think of the possibilites...She can wear her daisy dukes, a halter top for bouncing, and she can shreik and scream while she manhandles the roto-tiller.

Then she can measure in precise inches how far apart the children can place their seeds, and TLC can show clips of past Halloweens, without Jon, of course.

Then she can whine and bellyache about the dirt and how she does everything for the kids, and it was their favoritest episode ever. Who knows, maybe she can go into the pumpkin business after such a smashing success...

I'm glad they weren't actually rolling the dough out ON the garbage bags.

Jeanne: Kate said in the clip that they had to make these treats a special, modified way because of the dietary needs of the patients, so I'm assuming they were "for the dialysis patients" and not the employees.

I put that in parentheses because I highly doubt they were given out to the patients. I think the whole fugging thing is a FARCE. TLC has told her to act nice for the cameras AND they aren't blowing any more money sending her and her child army all over the globe, so the trips are over, kaput. If they were going on trips this summer, it's late June--they'd BE there by now. I guarantee you it burns her the hell up to be stuck in Pennsylvania right now, with those kids out of school and at home all but four days a month. She's probably losing what little is left of her twisted mind right about now.

I can't get over how she looked in the couch interviews in that clip above (I refuse to watch the show or even TLC for that matter). Her eyes were just sinister. It looks as if she's done something surgically to her eyes, too. Her skin was awful, especially note her cheeks, there's a ton of makeup trying to cover up some kind of acne or severe dryness. Her hair is awful and I noticed a lot of it is pulled into her face now (to partially hide it?). It looks pretty flammable.

She just looks like she can hardly be bothered. And TLC put together a very unenticing promo for the show. I'm sure it's not hard to make her look like an asshole, I mean she IS one, but the promo just seems to really let it all lay bare.

They're dropping her this year.

Did anyone notice she was on Celebitchy for this episode? A writer over there caught the promo clip and was kind of stunned at how horrible she is to the kids (I think she's always been that way, though). It only got about 50 comments, but most of them were along the lines of "I'm shocked that sour-faced ditch rat is still on TV." It made me laugh how many people had totally forgotten about her.

Buh-bye, Miserable Kate. Enjoy those kids you just HAD TO HAVE to have fame and fortune. It's kicking your ass now.

Kelly, the kids are 7, but they talk as though they are five or maybe a smidge younger.

Didn't watch the new episode but did watch a bit of the giving back. Kate would do well to teach the kids some manners. I was surprised when Hanna yelled "Scott, get over here" at the guy taping the boxes. Is it just me or is Maddy turning into a little kate klone? I noticed that she has no expression either on her face or in her voice when she's on the couch....much the same as Kate. I was also very surprised over the comment she made about the size of poor Colin's head.

Here is a link about about plastic garbage bags and food preparation:

http://lancaster.unl.edu/food/ftsep04.htm

Thanks for the link. I'm sorry - I guess I wasn't clear enough in my question, so here it is again: Did they use the garbage bags on the counter to ROLL the dough upon, or in any way prepare the dough? Or, were the bags covering the counters to protect them from messes?

The site linked here said, "The use of plastic trash bags for food storage or cooking is not recommended by USDA "... because they are not food grade plastic and chemicals from them may leach into the food."

Leaching into the food? Assuming they mean leak, this states that the bags should not be used for food storage or cooking, and I am understanding that they didn't store anything in the bags or cook in them. Is that correct? In other words, if they just used them to collect the messes, then they weren't in any way being used in the actual food prep process.

That said, granite is an easy clean-up. Why even bother with garbage bags at all? It makes no sense...

==========================

I've watched clips in which Kate has brought up the size of Collin's head, and then I read that Mady did the same thing, so I guess this is the standard joke in the home. I wonder how Kate would feel if the kids would torment her about her horse teeth, mis-aligned jaw, or her lazy eye.

That poor boy is going to grow up to be so self-conscious about it, and obviously Kate has taught the kids that anything is fair game. She's a piece of work.

I guess I just have a really weird sense of humor, and while the general premise of the article clearly presented Kate as being the tyrant that she is, to call children "little f-ers" doesn't cause me to erupt in uncontrollable laughter. In fact, the language is disgusting.

The photo, however, is priceless. It looks like she's on her way for her weekly botox. The one comment, "Can you imagine being a child and looking up to see that thing coming after you? Nightmares" was funny (and true) particularly when you look at the photo!

Kinda funny....watch at about the 49 second mark, one of the twins touches her hair, but Kate misses seeing it. Then Kate touches her own hair at the 1 minute mark. That, however, is not a big deal.

Not that I personally care, but for a lady who is supposedly such a germ-o-phobe, how come the kids (and she) weren't wearing plastic gloves and hairnets if they were giving the baked goods to the public?

If that was you and you had compromised health, would you want to eat something a bunch of little kids had made at home? Who knows how sanitary the conditions were......either at the home or during transport.

At the 31 second mark one of the tups is leaning his open mouth on the edge of the counter, to which Kate says nothing...hmmmm.

Kokomo, Cocktails, and Dreams,

You are right that the comment calling the kids bad names wasn't funny.

I apologize for offending anyone by sending the link. No kids deserve that.

The dlisted.com owner is known for his irreverant and R-rated comments and sometimes they are funny. Other times not.

I found some of the comments hilarious and others disgusting, as you said.

But the picture was worth everything. And the fact that others in the media are now calling her out is hilarious.

For so long kart was just such a media darling. It took a long, long while for the media and talk show hosts to realize she WASN'T a good mom, that she is horrible to those kids......

But now the treatment she's getting is pretty blistering.

I guess that's what happens when you emotionally abuse your kids on national TV for all to see. And treat others like they are dirt... this is part of the karma she is will be enjoying before she falls completely off the radar.

I imagine that kart and purseboy never in a million years expected to get treatment like this post on dlisted.com. I can only imagine how upset she must be.

Well, kart... you evidently made some folks mad about how you treat your kids and others. Gonna have to live with the consequences.

When I think of families like the Duggers, McCouheys (sp?) and Dilly's, and how well those mothers treat their children, kart's situation sickens me all over again.

kart had such a wonderful, miraculous chance to attain all her goals AND have a beautiful, loving family.

She blew it big time. No one's fault but her own.

This Dlister web site has never had a particular vendetta against Kate. They occasionally mention her but no more than they rag on any other celeb.

The fact that they are essentially saying exactly what we said about this clip, that she is a vicious mother who talks horribly to her children, is further proof that the general public, the sane public who are good parents and just good people, see this woman for exactly what she is, a mean, vicious, horrible mother.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think the media was slow on the uptake because their contact with Kate was cursory at best.

If I'm not mistaken, US Weekly was the first ever publication to start calling her out on her crap, and when they did it was sort of very softball at first while they tested the waters. And it was also sort of shocking since she was a media darling before that--like wow, someone finally gets it and is going on record that they get it. Now, it's almost every publication that blasts her. Even People started calling her out a bit.

If you only watched a few promotional clips and listened to a few seconds of interviews, you might think she's a little abrasive, but that hardly gives you the whole story on just exactly how cruel she is to these kids and how much she has exploited them. And I think that's what took the media so long. But what happened was Kate opened her big fat mouth again and again, and when EVERY clip was either insulting Jon, the kids, or working the kids to death, eventually the general media did figure it out. Now that they are on to her, it's on.

Not sure I agree with that, the worse Kate gets, the more manic her ongoing breakdown has become, the less viewers tune in. These past few months, largely due to what we've seen on twitter, have been some of her most manic. And ratings are falling like a rock.

The ratings are clear. Viewers wanted to see the dynamic of Jon and Kate. Once Jon left, rating plummeted and now that they've thoroughly exhausted every situation they could possibly put Kate in to cause a meltdown, the ratings are even worse.

The viewers have spoken, watching Kate be a bitch is not what they are interested in.

Had Kate never exploited her babies no one would ever have called them by such an inappropriate name. Yup, all goes back to Kate. Even though the twins don't like to be recognized, she still forces them to work. Yesterday and today they had to work. It's Kate, all Kate, at this point.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Anonymous I think you are confusing us with Kate. Kate is the one who is mean, cruel, and heartless to these kids.

Someone here said the comments are R rated, someone else said "I found some of the comments hilarious and others disgusting, as you said."

No one is supporting disgusting comments about the kids and please do not put words in our mouths. In my own latest recap, I said at least twice that Collin was so sweet and helpful and a hard worker, that Mady was sweet when she tried to get the jellybeans out of Kate's mouth, that Kate sells the kids short, and that they are generally good kids. There has been tremendous concern here for Cara and her quietness lately. Any behavior issues, however minor, by Hannah I indicated was simply a parroting of Kate and not Hannah's fault.

People here are almost always very supportive and kind to these kids. In fact, seems to me complete strangers here think far more highly of these kids than Kate does. This whole thread is about our outrage over how Kate treated them in this clip!

Putting words in our mouths reduces YOUR credibility and your comments will never be published here again after that.

I agree, Fidosmommy. When Jon left and Kate with the eight kids was created, there was interest. What is she going to do? How is she going to handle eight children without her husband lending to the family dynamics? This kept the viewers briefly interested. But it didn't take long before viewers realized that something was missing -- the father of the clan, the one who got love-pats on the sofa, the one who let the kids get messy and just be kids, the one who filled the car with gas and got it packed for trips. The couple appeared to be polar opposites, and that in itself generated interest.

However, the bully persona now is getting old. I think that the young sheeple see her as an ordinary, small-town girl who made it big. They think that if this happened to her, anything is possible for them. However one can only be tolerant of Kate Behaving Badly so long before the novelty wears off. Of course, there will always be those die-hard sheeple who will defend her at all costs, but I'm predicting that those will be few and far between. The tweeting has been her Waterloo. Many on here called it as soon as her verified check-mark went up, and she began her nonsensical tweets that disclosed details about her children that never should have been made public. She just can't sit on those twittering fingers.

What is pathetic is that she needs these tweeties for encouragement, and they believe that they have a personal relationship with her. They are needy, and in that relationship they have a bond. If you take the time to read the tweets, the common thread in all of them seems to be a pleading for her to recognize them individually. When she doesn't, they get a bit testy and demand her attention. It's an interesting look at human behavior and the micro-level of societal interaction and the social environment. As long as she maintains this faux friendship with them, they'll be the faithful viewers, but when she's told by the powers-that-be that the twittering frenzy isn't enough to raise the ratings, she will drop them. Kate appearing as Witch of the Year is a phenomenon that isn't sustainable. It's not going to be enough, and I think that she knows it, and TLC knows it. It's clear that they are playing us, but they underestimate the intelligence and perception of the viewing audience (excluding the sheeple, of course!).

Just curious said...

It's Kate, all Kate, at this point.

That has never been more apparent than it is now that she's tweeting continually.

I think TLC stumbled, accidentally, on what is essentially some classic storytelling. Good guy vs. bad guy. Protagonist, antagonist. Jon was the good guy, Kate was the bad guy. Watching the two tit for tat back and forth was the draw, with the kids as supporting characters who created situations that caused conflict between the protagonist and antagonist.

Admittedly, it was a rather brilliant concept, although I hesitate to say brilliant because I think it was just pure luck that it happened. It's not like TLC really did much, they just edited it to play it up.

Remove the protagonist and the audience struggles to replace the role with another character. When they can't, they get bored really fast with the antagonist running around in circles causing conflict with themselves. Yawn. Ratings drop.

Why was the Sarah Palin episode such a hit? (It was at the top of my "top 5" most hits posts for ages and ages). Because Sarah Palin stepped in and fulfilled that role as antithesis to Kate. It WORKED. In fact, people would probably watch an entire series about Sarah and Kate together. Maybe doing various activities together, Sarah rolling up her sleeves and attacking everything with a smile, Kate bitching and quitting as she usually does.

We're working our way through Prison Break right now on Netflix streaming. (So in love with Netflix streaming). This show, especially the first season, was genius. Michael and his brother Lincoln are pitted against those that conspired to frame Lincoln. They are also pitted against the prison walls. The series is about breaking through the prison walls, and breaking through their enemies. This tit-for-tat has us riveted, audiences love it. It's an old formula, but it works, almost every darn time. Doesn't hurt that Michael is adorable lol.

Without this dynamic, or some other compelling literary dynamic to replace it, Kate Plus 8 is doomed. Although its death has been slow, it is going in that direction.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Also another note about literary devices. Before, Kate bullied Jon. But Jon dished it back enough to keep things interesting. The problem is now Kate is bullying the kids, only they are just not quite there enough that they can dish it back. Mostly they just sit there looking sullen and defeated, as any kid their age probably would when they are suffering at the hands of a narcissist. Audiences don't like to see the protagonist look defeated and constantly beaten down, that's DEPRESSING--they want to see them FIGHT the antagonist.

Since the kids are a few years away from being able to "fight" Kate, this concept just isn't working. Now, this concept could completely work say, when the kids are 14 and 11 and are dishing it right back to Kate and making her life hell. But that's so far away we probably won't ever get there.

This is what I don't get from Kate fans who tweet what a great mom she is. Would any of those tweens/teens really want to be in the Gosselin kids' place - mommy Kate bullying them, barking orders at them, and watching/controlling their every move? Probably not.

If this clip was in the episode, how can they not see her nasty behavior towards her kids? They are so quick to come to her rescue, with lame excuses such as 'she has eight kids, you would be stressed too' etc. etc.

The Duggars, Hayes, and other large reality tv families seem to accept the unique situation they are in (i.e. their large family, not reality tv) and make the best of it - without being nasty to each other. In fact, I've seen normal teens and college kids handle more kids than Kate and do it respectfully, despite the stress of supervising a large group of kids.

I'm not expecting Kate to be a perfect mom or even a 'super mom'. I just wish she was more respectful/loving towards them than the many times she's not.

I'm so over the excuses for Kate's bad behavior.

The only excuse for messes is carelessness?"
&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Kate must have slept through child development class in nursing school. Apparently she has never noticed that when kids are four, they have to play t-ball and hit the ball off a stick because they can't hit it when it's pitched. As they grow older, they slowly graduate to underhand pitches up close, then further back, then overhand slow pitches, then overhand fast pitches. This has less to do with practice (a four year old could practice 24 hours a day and never be able to hit a pitch) and more to do with evolving motor skills.

It's this funny thing called dexterity, and with time, kids develop it. This is why kids spill milk, because of developing dexterity. It's not their fault. You think these kids want to spill milk and get yelled at by her? But they're going to because they are teaching their muscles how to do things like hold a glass of milk without spilling, and so on. She is such a piece of work.

Oh Fidosmommy - your comments are pure gold!

I love my children and grandchildren more than life. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for them. When my children were younger they knew if anybody bullied them all they had to do was tell me and mama bear would step in. Sadly often times the bully's mother and/or father was a bully. I did learn how to make my point to the parent in their "language" and the bullying would stop. Sometime all you have to do is meet the bullies on their level; too bad the G-8 cannot do that yet. Mark my words the day will come when they stand up against Katie-Dearest and she will get a dose of the "realest reality" ever.
