Recap: Kate Plus 8 "8 Movie Makers": Onlooker #2 films some orphanage kids

Still catching up on a few outstanding recaps, enjoy!

8 Movie Makers is another cop-out bottle episode, where it all takes place at the house, which is dirt cheap to film, and it's mostly filler. Thankfully it's only 21 minutes, so this recap should be much more brief and a relief for me!

I have a new toy. Amazon fire stick. It's amazing. It has a gazillion apps to access all the T.V. and movies you could ever want, and music, and it's only a one-time purchase of $39.99. Much of the content on the apps is free or at least partially free, if you're a cable cutter, and if you're not you should know you can now pretty much watch all or almost all of your shows this way for much cheaper than a cable box would run you. Even if you like a traditional "guide" and DVR options as you channel surf, you can still have that: you have the much cheaper options now of Playstation Vue or DirectTV streaming on your fire stick, both of which operate more like a cable box for a third of the price and no holes to drill in your floor. If you haven't cut the cord by now, why? They even have sports available now. Best of all my T.V. is mounted over my fireplace, and with the fire stick I don't need any wires coming down from it because it's just a little piece of plastic that plugs into the back. I'm in heaven! Fire stick is not paying me to say this nor do I make any dough if you buy one through the link I posted, I just like sharing things that make life enjoyable.

TLCgo has their own app for Amazon fire, and for once, TLC has an app that is smooth, organized and easy to use. You just browse or search for your series, and when it pops up it shows you all the seasons they have and all the episodes. Scroll on over to what you want and hit play and you're off and running. For the longest time I wasn't able to catch up on old recaps because I simply couldn't find the episodes anywhere, not for free anyway. I like that TLC has now put up all the episodes of all their series on TLCgo now. TLCgo is free, by the way, as long as it's part of your regular cable subscription (it should work just fine if you have Vue or DirectTV streaming, too).

This first aired in August 2011, a whopping six years ago. It's always interesting to look back and see what's different and what's the same. Things are frankly, mostly the same. As per the usual, Kate is taking credit for an episode idea in that she thought of it to have the kids make their own movie. The movie they are forced to live all the time for the cameras isn't enough? Geez.

A company called "Movie Makers" comes to the house, headed by Melissa and Sam. I googled the company to see if they're still around and yes, here they are, still running their camps and private lessons. Their 10 week classes are only $375, which frankly is very reasonable.  They're also still bragging that they are "as seen on Kate Plus 8". Seven years later maybe it's time to drop that association. What's also funny is I found an interview with a very polite Melissa about her experience on Kate Plus 8, where she explains that the idea to hire her was dreamed up by one of the producers brainstorming episode ideas, whose daughter had participated in Movie Makers and enjoyed it. Baw! Busted, Kate. Wait a second, why would you need to sit around a table brainstorming episode ideas for a reality show? I love when people inadvertently out this charade for exactly what it is.

Melissa is an "actor," by the way, and has a decent-sized IMDB page of mostly bit parts in mostly D-list shows and movies. But she did make an appearance or two on reputable shows like Army Wives and as "Onlooker #2" on One Tree Hill. Follow your dreams and all that. Onlooker #2, lol. I prefer ogler myself, and I'd like to be #1 please!

Well this is nice, Kate takes a hike because she wants the movie to be a surprise. More than likely this is not a trip so she's not interested, but it's fine by me. Imagine collecting a huge paycheck, likely in the high five figures, just by saying, "Here kids go make a movie with Melissa" and then going upstairs and cutting yourself up an avocado to put on your salad. Kind of crazy.

The younger kids seem awfully young for the things Melissa is explaining to them: rolling, speed, slate? The kids look like they don't care and more just want to play with the clapboard. I'm going to call this right away that this activity is way too old for them, teens would get way more out of this. With little kids, it just turns more into a chaotic play time. What is with this show and their struggle to find these kids activities that are age appropriate? Usually the activities are way too babyish, but it goes both ways, and this time the activity is way too mature for them to get much out of it.

Collin is yawning away on the couch. The kids pull out a crap ton of costumes from God knows where and start trying them on. What is this movie about? Are they just randomly picking customes? Do the kids understand what they're doing and why? Because I'm confused myself.

Well armchair psychologist this, Mady has decided the movie will be about an orphanage. Melissa instructs one of the sextuplets that she will play an "orphanage girl". Um, does she mean "orphan"? Oh well, actors are not known for being bright.

They cut to a shot of Sam folding up all the mountains of unused costumes and putting them back. Why aren't the kids doing that? They created this cyclone. What tends to happen to celebrity kids, wealthy kids or kids on T.V., I've seen first hand, is that when people come over like this, they don't treat them the same as they would other kids. Happens all the time. They get special treatment, including cleaning up all their crap for them. It's not good, Sam. Not good at all. When I nannied, I used to have to ask the housekeeper to please stop making the children's beds in the morning and cleaning up after them all the time, as I wanted them to make their own beds themselves and clean up after things themselves, and to get in trouble when they didn't. It didn't matter to me things weren't made up as perfect as the way Ophelia would do it, I wanted the children to have to do it. It's important. There is a long line of people in these children's lives who have done them no favors.

Melissa explains that they're going to start filming, but they will film out of order. That's typical of most films. Mady remarks that their reality show is filmed in order, so this is a change. That's not true, we have caught them multiple times filming out of order, and Jon was once ordered to keep his beard for the sake of "continuity." Now why would you need to worry about continuity if you were always filming in order? Heh.

It's fascinating to watch how much time they waste showing us absolutely nothing. There's a whole lot of the younger kids rambling, which is even more meandering because they're so young, and a lot of walking around, and nothing is happening.

Even at this age, it seems to me doing the camp, or having friends over to help make the movie, would be so much more fun than Mady and Cara having to direct all their younger siblings. Kind of a drag.

Collin and Joel are manning the cameras, and they're just way too young for this. They're chopping people's heads off gyrating them up and down so much I'm getting nauseous. Collin is wearing an adorable oversized pirate hat. Hehe.

Great, perfect! Melissa is constantly saying to everything these kids do. I can't stand when all adults do is over-praise kids.

Melissa's introducing herself again. I thought we already did the meet and greet portion earlier. Well, hello, again. Why do I get the feeling Melissa is the type of gal who tends to do stuff like mix up the salt for the sugar?

Melissa says at the moment the movie doesn't make any sense, but she'll figure it out. Um.

The TLC interns are getting cutesy, putting a little of the script up on the screen "Ext. Magical World."

Melissa thinks it's just so wonderful that the kids don't have a problem with looking at the cameras, which is the problem for other kids she teaches. Melissa, that is because since birth they have been filming a virtual Truman Show, you understand that, right? Don't you find their heightened abilities to work so smoothly with a camera crew at such a young age creepy, like, at all? She's getting dumber by the moment. I'm surprised she didn't use the cool industry lingo she's been invoking all along, it's called spiking the camera, and it's such a common mistake even from adult professionals that is should really weird her out these kids never do it.

The kids are starting to lose it with all this filming, and some are hitting each other and getting annoyed. Kate and Melissa are excusing all this atrocious behavior, especially with guests over, as just simply sibling rivalry.

Day three of filming? This doesn't sound fun. It sounds exhausting. That's over half the time it takes to film a real drama episode, like Law and Order, and it's well documented how exhausting those five days usually are. Why does everything have to be a 10 out of 10 here? Why couldn't they just make a short film for half a day or something, maybe a day? Melissa has given up even putting make-up on at this point, heh, and she looks tired.

At this point Melissa says she has no clue how the movie will turn out and it's all over the place. Um, isn't she supposed to be in charge here? How much is she getting paid to be this confused? And in conclusion, may I please remind you that it does not say RSVP on the Statue of Liberty!

So, was Kate really totally MIA all these three days? That's kind of odd, though I really enjoyed the break from recapping her histrionics. But, I have to admit, it makes the episodes even more boring than they usually are when no one is having a mental health episode for me to discuss. Kate said earlier she cleaned her room during all this time. Good, I'm sure it needed it.

Kate looks so tan she looks like she's a totally different race, she looks like people who aren't white but who like to dye their hair blond. She looks ridiculous, and you can really see the difference here in how much less she tans these days. They finished filming and now it's time for the movie premiere. They don't explain how they get from filming to a movie premiere. I'm guessing Melissa goes back to the office and splices it all together in between bit parts as Onlooker #2?

The kids are so young, I'm not sure they really know what a movie premiere looks like to get a kick out of this. But production did a good job nonetheless, making a real mini-red carpet at the house, and Melissa and Sam standing in as reporters asking questions. I like Melissa's movie poster, it looks like a poster from when Lifetime used to make halfway decent Sunday night movies about things like kidnappings. Not bad at all.

Melissa interviews Kate on the red carpet. Shmoopy is in her element. Talk about myself? Yes please!

They all line up on the couches and floor of course with popcorn, and watch the movie, The Orphans' Adventure. Good punctuation, Melissa.

So far this is kind of the plot of Annie, in which the hard knock orphans have to clean all day. Also, it sounds like their real life. Remember Kendra crying because the children had so many chores to do every day? It takes kind of a Stephen King-like twist when some of the orphans get sucked down into a vortex and end up..... in Kate's back yard, far as the eye can see!

I'm losing the plot here, suddenly there are other kids popping up in various costumes, and Mady and Leah find a pirate chest and take something out of it. Oh, Melissa.

For once I think Kate's expression is justified. She's trying to be proud of all this, but can't follow the plot either.

Leah and Mady aren't the worst actors in the world, I'm mildly impressed with their ability to trip and fall realistically, and make scared faces. But the best actor in this whole thing is wearing a unicorn costume so I can't tell who it is.

The hard to follow plot ends with some of the kids in costume inviting the orphans to stay with them. But why? It's extra mouths to feed, and they barely know them. Wouldn't it make more sense to call CPS if children are being worked to death at an orphanage? Or even the cops? Yeah this is me, during every movie. I'm that film-goer.

Melissa is getting quite lovey dovey with these kids after only knowing them three days, affectionately holding Leah's hands and swinging them back and forth and giving her a very warm hug. Does she honestly think that's a good idea for their sake? She's just going to be ripped from their lives at the end of the filming never to be seen again. This is a big reason these kids have the problems that they do now, the revolving door of people doling out love to them, then being taken away, including their own father.

This episode had a huge redeeming factor in that Kate was barely in it. She only swooped in at the end to obnoxiously make this all about Mady and her growth, when all the other kids, especially Leah, were chipping in their fair share and I'm sure grew too! And that's a wrap!

Too bad that TLC and Kate missed a great opportunity to rebrand her and her new show when she was on celebrity apprentice. It would even come with a theme song she already knows the words too. "My house is chock Full o NUT'S it's our heavenly compound". "It's as far as my eye's can see."

Chock Full o’Nuts wakes people up and keeps ‘em going with the perfectly roasted, heavenly blend of coffee. Born on Broadway in 1932, we’ve been serving up smooth, great-tasting CRAP, oop's, coffee to the masses for what seems like almost 100 years.

The Harvey Weinstein saga has certainly shaken up the entertainment industry, especially now that the big names are calling him out. It’s about time these bullies were exposed.

&&&&

Hollywood should be ashamed for covering for this guy while in the same breath feigning outrage for months over a couple of off color comments from a candidate they decided to hate. They turned on Billy Bush just like that and saw to it he was ruined. I don't want to hear one more word about their moral finger pointing after this Weinstein disaster. They're disgusting hypocrites. Goopy and Jolie included. God knows how many other women got hurt because Goops decided to keep it all a secret.

Lisa Guerrero of Inside Edition said that when she was younger and working as an actress she would be going on casting calls and got a call to audition for a lead role in a movie for Steven Segal.

She just happened to take a lady with her to the hotel room and when she knocked on the door, Steven Segal opened the door in a silk bathrobe. He knew she was coming.

He punished her by not giving her the main role but gave her a very small role.

Looks like Weinstein is the new Bill Cosby. I agree with you, Admin. The actresses should of spoke up when it happened and save someone else from the same humiliation or worse. I remember years ago, a famous actress, I can't remember who, said that she was slapped very hard across the face from a A-lister famous star and he also threatened her.

She wouldn't say who did it. Maybe the revelations that have been going on lately may lead her to speak out.

Agree Golly. This idea that women can't come forward because of rape culture is stuff and nonsense when it comes to powerhouses like Jolie and Goopy who were already from outrageously wealthy and famous families, both of them. Their careers would not have been "ruined." They would not have been "blacklisted." They would have been heroes.

B.S. These women did not come forward and were not ever GOING to come forward because of their own gravy trains. They didn't want Weinstein taken out of the game, because that was a large revenue stream for them and their little friends Matty and Benny and all the rest. Get rid of him and watch half of Hollywood crumble. The saddest thing about all this is they can't admit it or take any responsibility for it. They've spent the better part of the last two years yammering on and on about other people's greed, hypocrisy, anti-feminism when all along the beam has been in THEIR eyes. This is one of the darkest and hypocritical weeks here in L.A. and they don't even see it.

Practically the only hero in all this is Brad Pitt, who cornered the guy and told him to knock it the heck off or else. A lot of boyfriends would just advise you not to get confrontational.

Relative to the situation I guess it can be considered a punishment, but let's face it - losing the starring role in a Steven Seagal movie isn't the worst thing in the world that can happen to an actor. His movies stink.

I don't understand why some of the same celebrites who stood and applauded as the Academy awarded an Oscar to the perverted pedophile Roman Polanski are so outraged. Why did they overlook his behavior? I want to hear Meryl Streep defend herself on that action. She can't.

Ohhh Meryl Streep is flat out lying when she says she don't know nothin'.

Let's talk about Casey Affleck. He's a fantastic actor, no question. Behind the scenes, it is well documented his sexual behavior toward women is frightening and disgusting. Hollywood has protected him. He was the toast of the town last year, and was bestowed the Oscar. Even at the time I couldn't figure it out. I couldn't figure out all the finger wagging and pearl clutching over issues of sexual morality and women issues while in the same breath awarding that guy their highest honor.

If they want to harbor pedophiles and sex addicts in their Hollywood circles well then go ahead, but then don't turn around and claim to be leaders, movers and shakers in women's rights, progressivism, liberalism, and anti-Trump-ism. I would love to collect all their various tweets about these issues over the years and see them all lined up like little hypocritical ducks in a row.

They knowingly harbored a predator, some of them are lying about it, others are downplaying it, only about one or two people in the entire circle did the right thing (I've always loved you Brad Pitt) and no one is taking responsibility for it.

Tucker's Mom said...

Meryl Streep wants us to believe that as perhaps one of the biggest A-list stars in Hollywood for decades, she had no idea that Weinstein is a predator.
How full of it can one person be?
There's no way she's been in the biz that long and hadn't a whiff of it.
NO WAY.
But, before I sit her and try to figure out why Streep is lying, all I have to do is look up her standing ovation for a child rapist, Roman Polanski, and hear her talk about how horrible it was that he was in jail.

Oh, and don't get me started on her insult to sports fans! Martial Arts are not, THEE arts, you Philistines!

I can see now where Ashley Judd's serious anger issues where coming from in her 'Naaaaaaaasty woman' recitation.

&&&

Oh she knew. She knew. And don't tell me with your A list status for going on four decades now you couldn't say anything because you might get blacklisted in Hollywood. Stop it.

At a certain point women need to start taking responsibility for these things and they were in the perfect position to see something and say something given their status. I don't expect some 19 year old nobody from the Midwest hoping for just two lines in a film to get their SAG card being to say something. I do expect powerhouses like Streep or children of powerhouse families to say something.

And where is the proof one would ever get blackballed for saying something? They ARE saying something now, and I don't see Jolie, Paltrow or anyone else getting blackballed no more than I've ever seen it from any other woman down the line who decided to speak out about a predator. That is a cop out and an excuse and most of all a lie.

I think the reason they applauded Roman Polanski is because the very young girl he molested wasn't one of them. She's not some big star, therefore she doesn't matter--not to them, anyway. But Harvey Weinstein assaulted some of their own. To that crowd, only members of their little circle really matter. Therefore they are outraged.

Tucker's - don't get me started on Ashley Judd or any of the Judd clan for that matter. Every time I hear any of them give one of their righteous opinions on (fill in the blank) it makes me want to start a movement to bring back the stage hook.

I agree that powerful women should have said something long ago, but the powerful men should have also. The reason this stayed quiet for so long, was about the greed of everyone involved. It's gross, and this is not a political argument, but a societal one. Please don't bring politics into this.

But, of course, this is not just a Hollywood problem. I've been helping my neighbour deal with her disgusting, pig of a boss for the last couple of years, and she finally got the courage to do something about it. And the thing is, the higher ups in her company know he's a pig, but don't do anything about it because he is the top dollar earner for them. I've talked her out of quitting (because why should she??), because she's good at her job, and makes great money. Lawyers are involved now, and I cannot be more thrilled for her. Women need to take these stands everywhere, because once we do, shit like this will stop.

I know it's important to get the Weinstein story out but, as a Canadian, it seems to me the media is putting a lot of energy and resources than could be focused on getting new gun laws in the wake of the L.V. massacre.

The 'casting couch' has been around since the silent movie era. Many have even joked about it through the years. It's certainly not news to the general public and many now deceased movie stars have written about what went on in their climb to stardom.

I do agree there is a lot of hypocrisy when someone like Meryl Streep had to know what was going on and yet championed Roman Polanski, despite his crimes and reputation.

The way people like admin reacted to the women who came forward about Trump might be the reason so many starlets hesitated to come forward about Harvey Weinstein.

$$

That makes no sense. I reacted to Them NOT coming forward, so that’s BS. If they came forward timely there would be nothing to criticize. They didn’t come forward to be sure to keep the money flowing and other petty reasons, period. Finally a celeb came forward who owns her mistakes. Jane Fonda said she heard a year ago and feels ashamed for not saying anything. She did not say she didn’t come forward because she was afraid of the reaction. She was very clear, she said she did not come forward because it didn’t happen directly to her so she didn’t think it was her place. Wrong, it was her place. She admits now that was a heinous mistake and good for her, one of the few actually taking responsibility. The time for treating our fellow women with kid gloves and excuses is over. It’s time we demand that these incidents be disclosed timely and to the proper authorities. Especially by women who hold themselves out as leaders of women. It’s time we stop protecting women with all these excuses. Victim reports are confidential, any one of them could have made an anonymous report to the police and initiated an investigation if they as supposedly strong women suddenly folded like a wet noodle. Enough excuses.

Actresses not coming forward because they didn't want to lose money reminds me of TFW.

Screaming, NEVER HEARD OF HIM! about Bill Blankenship, the film editor.

Kicked Collin out of the house to continue filming and covering up what really happened to him that a sweet little boy had to leave his home, his siblings, his dad, his dogs, his everything.

This would be the perfect time for anyone who saw something or knows something to come forward. Anything that TFW did or said to the children that you know, deep down in your heart, you know is wrong.

Even if a NDA has been signed, Child Abuse makes the contract, Null and Void! Whistle blowers are protected.

Even Jane Fonda regrets not sounding the alarm, even though it didn't happen to her. That is like seeing a bad car accident, with people hurt and not calling 911.

How can you sleep at night?

Tucker's Mom said...

I guess I'm not surprised the Weinstein seems to think that "rehab" is going to help him on any level. He BEGGED people to prevent him from being fired.
Oh, speaking of which, I was listening to Harvey Levin of TMZ and he said that Weinstein's harassment was in his contract! He was basically allowed to victimize actresses per his contract, and might be in a position to sue to get his job back!

Nope. If an inconspicuous woman like Amber Frey has the guts and the conscience to come forward and do the only right thing to do, then big mouths like Ashley Judd and big guns like Paltrow and Angelina Jolie certainly have no reason to keep quiet when they know where and what Weinstein was doing.

It's time to start focusing on the behavior of the men involved rather than directing all your vitriol toward the women.

They are not mutually exclusive. Just because one expects powerhouse to be the leaders that they are and DO THE RIGHT THING does not mean one is not blaming the man, too. One can actually do both. I hope he goes to jail.

But, be careful with putting all the blame on the perp. By your logic, no one else at Penn State should have been in trouble except Jerry Sandusky because he was the perp. Why is that different? Because they were mostly men who knew? No difference. True feminism means true equality, and that means that women owe just as much of a duty to come forward when they know something as men do. No more excuses. No more double standards. It ends now.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Anyone who knows, should have known, or even "heard" had a responsibility to come forward, and even dopey Jane Fonda admits that. I don't care if you have boobs or not, we all have the same duty.

Show me one example of ANYONE who got blacklisted or retaliated against in reporting this jerkwad this week. Oh wait, there are no examples because they just made that up as an excuse to cover for just wanting t maintain their gravy trains. They should be begging for forgiveness from all his other victims.

Whether it's women accusing Trump or Weinstein, YOU don't know their reasons for not coming forward so stop claiming that you do. Period.

&&&

Actually some are explaining their reasons, and they're all lame reasons and most of them not very credible reasons.

Come to think of it you don't know their reasons either, so how exactly do you presume to tell me I'm wrong about my opinion that they protected him in the name of money and nothing else if you don't know either. It's my opinion based on the facts and it's just too bad if you don't like it or refuse to see it.

Brad Pitt personally confronted him. I consider that doing something about it. Meryl did nothing of the short, is playing dumb that she even knew about it, which is just outrageously unbelievable, and in the meantime has been busy defending a child molester named Roman. That's all I need to know about that one.

&&&&

The media has talked incessantly about that issue as well. Not sure how you missed it. What American channels do you watch or papers do you read? All the ones I watch and read have been talking about it endlessly.

What new gun laws though would have prevented this tragedy? I really want to know. The fact that there may not be much discussion about specific LAWS is because I think most people admit that even total confiscation of all guns is not going to prevent someone as deranged as that man from embarking on a mass killing. Someone that deranged doesn't respond to laws in the first place even if there were any laws out there that would apply to this situation. Even if laws were to somehow restrict an otherwise mentally stable law abiding citizen up until that point from accessing weapons, he would just fill up a bucket from home depot with homemade explosives and try to blow a train out. What's next, ban buckets?

I do however think a lot more needs to be asked about how a hotel could not notice all of this including his own personal security system. The first lawsuit filed was about that very thing, and I think she's right on the money. One could just as easily ask why there is not more discussion about why a hotel would not notice any of this. I would also like to see some discussion about how such a deranged person is never flagged as having mental health issues by anyone. I haven't heard nary a peep about that elephant in the room.

What a ridiculous remark. Pretty sure it's a little early to know if there will be ramifications. People don't take out press releases announcing that someone is blackballed or delineating their retaliation plans.

&&&

As I suspected, you have no examples of someone's career being "ruined" because they reported Harvey Weinstein. Last I checked, Jolie, Goopy, Matty, Benny and all their friends are still the same multi millionaires they were last week.

Also last I checked, it's not okay to not report a crime because you're worried about whatever selfish thing, like not making your millions this year.

Face it, they covered for the guy because they didn't want to take him out of the game because he made them a lot of money. They are all co-conspirators.

Yes, they are ALL complicit. And it's the same in Hollywood, politics, and the real world. It's not locker room talk, or the generation you were born into. I do give Rose McGowan credit because she did say something, and apparently has been saying it for a long time, but no one wanted to listen.

It's Friday the 13th, and out she (or he) comes. Not quite the witching hour, but close enough.

Would you excuse Kate's behaviour if she was a man? I've noticed that if a male is accused of something that you blame the victim.

&&&

I'VE noticed that women are given free passes for everything from child abuse to reporting predators, because they are mothers, women, single moms, blah blah. Have you counted the amount of times sheeple have used the "single mom" excuse for Kate's behavior, and don't you find this troubling? I find all this to be sexist and the very antithesis of feminism. I think Kate has gotten away with the kind of child abuse and neglect a man never would because she is a woman.

I'm a feminist. I expect all women to be treated equally. With that comes the same responsibility as men have, even if you are also a victim. Being a victim is not a free pass to look the other way and I'm confused why the far left has made it so. You can be both a victim, and have an obligation to report and do the right thing.

If the president and football coaches of Penn State were women, people would say well they were just worried about retaliation, so it's okay that they didn't stop this child predator. I find that despicable. But because it's men, several of them are going to jail? Wth?? Everybody goes to jail if you did not report this, vagina or not.

Why is it that Ambra Battilana had no problem reporting Weinstein to the cops, agreeing whole heartedly to wire herself up and helping the cops get Harvey Weinstein, but Jolie and Goopy could only continue to sit there and collect their millions? Ultimately they decided not to prosecute Ambra's particular incident (a lot of factors go into whether they think they have enough to go for it out of Ambra's control), but it doesn't make Ambra actions any less noble. Ambra was only 22 years old, so you can't say well she was much more mature at the time. Ambra also had her whole career ahead of her on the line, so you can't say she didn't have that on the line.

A 22 year old kid had the guts to put on a wire in front of Harvey, but a 70 year old queen of Hollywood, Jane Fonda, couldn't even open her mouth. Jane Fonda feels ashamed she said, and sadly, she should.

Ambra had this to say following the big reveal: "Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and, above all, confidence in ourselves." Thank you Ambra.

Yeah, it's not f-ing easy to deal properly with a creep like Weinstein. But until we expect, no DEMAND that our sex does so, this will continue on and on. Ambra is a leader and a role model. Goopy, Jolie, Streep and all their friends are not.

(Ambra is also Italian, so to that I say, sei stupefacente!)

I'm wondering if we will hear from males willing to step forward with stories of encounters with male executives, in some cases with young boys.

Two of them have already, James Vanderbeek and Terry Crews. James emphasized he was VERY young when cornered and groped, but stopped short of saying he was a minor at the time.

The stories are troubling.

Also this raises the issue yet again of not just women in Hollywood but kids in Hollywood. This story should scare the daylights out of Kate and the broken industry she has inserted her children in, but it won't.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

. I do give Rose McGowan credit because she did say something, and apparently has been saying it for a long time, but no one wanted to listen.

&&&

Oh yes. If you made an effort to say something and nothing much came of it (in the case of Ambra, who wired herself up two years ago) that's another matter. You can't control whether cops will pursue things or whatever. But if you told the proper authorities and provided the proper warnings then at least your conscience is clear.

I'm reminded of the staff at Oprah, who were also in "Hollywood" (though in Chicago). THEY chose not to look the other way. They did not worry about their jobs, or retaliation from frankly a powerful family. They did not worry about offending guests on their show (see Billy Bush). They simply knew that something bad was happening something kids were being abused and SAID SOMETHING. Neither could they control not much came of it until years later, but the point is they did the right thing.

Ambra, the Oprah staff, McGowan, all prove that there are plenty of people out there willing to do the right thing and those who refuse to get on board must live with themselves I suppose.

See something say something means nothing if you're not willing to risk something for it. Anyone can say something when nothing is on the line. But it takes a real grounded moral compass to be able to do it when there might be something to lose. We have seen this week who in Hollywood/Chicago has that compass and who does not, and it has been revealing.

I was listening to Harvey Levin of TMZ and he said that Weinstein's harassment was in his contract! He was basically allowed to victimize actresses per his contract, and might be in a position to sue to get his job back!

====

Oh good lord. How can that even be a legal contract? What kind of attorney would write up that agreement? "This man is a pig and he knows it and now you do too, so sign here if you agree to the terms".

It's not legal by any stretch of the imagination. A kangaroo contract could call it. Goodness people sure are dumb. Perhaps they need to teach just some basic contract law your senior year in high school. Like don't sign a contract that has no basis in legality or if you do, don't worry about it if you ever need to break it. Contracts that forbid you from following the law are never legal.

Corey Feldman talked about this exact thing a few years back. A clip was shown on the tv tonight (can't remember which show) when he was on The View. He talked about how very powerful movie executives were sexually assaulting kids and that they were still in power and still doing it. Baba Wawa looked at him in disbelief and said, and I'm paraphrasing here, you're disparaging a whole industry to which Corey said a resounding, "yes!" She couldn't believe it. I think it was in 2013. I find it laughable that Weinstein says he needs help. Really!? You've been pulling this sh&t for decades and now you need help? Come on.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

And the great hero in your story is a man. A man who didn't report. That is revealing.

&&&&

The great hero is actually a young Italian woman named Ambra.

Your inability to give her any credit and yet defend all the other stupid women who WOULDN'T do what she did, is quite revealing in its own right.

I vividly remember the Corey interview and the way the industry around him continued to cover. We talked about it here and again asked Kate doesn't this concern you?

I think it continues to be extremely concerning the lack of background checks for those who work with child actors as well as all the opportunities children have to be alone with these people--casting directors, set teachers, and others.

As far as the sex addict therapy, I can only shake my head at that. He's not a sex addict as if he's the victim here who has a disease and just needs treatment. He's a predator who used his position to act out his fantasies, counting on, correctly, Hollywood to cover for him.

But on Thursday an Arkansas district judge booted the case against In Touch, saying the First Amendment protected the magazine because the information it published was true and that, even if the cop broke the law when they provided the Duggars’ unredacted names, In Touch “cannot be held liable for the city’s and county’s failure to follow the law.”

Great news for those who seek to call out predators. And a further blow to Hollywood, who wants to pretend that exposing predators will somehow get the victim in some serious trouble, and so that's why you can't say anything. (B and S.)

No, actually, the law will back you up on it.

From what I heard, as long as Harvey reimbursed the company what it cost in legal fees and pay offs, they agreed not to fire him.
Un-fricking-believable.
What's funny to watch is the paparazzi turn on Weisnstein. It's like he can't believe they'd bite the hand that fed them for decades. Weinstein used the paparazzi and press like a cudgel, but now that his power is waning, he's not the useful idiot he once was.

He's a pathetic puke. It's all about Harvey and how hard this is on him. What a fricking victim.
No remorse for all the women he victimized.
If he's in rehab, the ONLY reason for for appearances in hopes of avoiding criminal charges and losing all his money.
He's not a sex addict. He's a sexual predator.

Boob thought he was too big to fail. This is a clear case of attempting to use power and position to circumvent the law.
Boob knew damn well he was doing that with his pedophile son, acting like some officer friend slapping Josh on the wrist was actually reporting his crimes to the proper authorities.
I can not believe his stupid wife continues to have babies with him.

Nothing irritates me more than these predators claiming to be sex addicts who need help. They are trying to pass themselves off as victims, and they are NOT victims. They victimize others, and only when they get caught do they go searching for some sob story to excuse their bad behavior.

When these Hollywood types do "rehab", it's for PR purposes only.
I think we'll be seeing more star power fall as more victims come forward.
I love how Rose McGowan called out Ben Affleck for his lies. The dumb shit should have kept his mouth shut instead of acting like he was shocked.

. People absolutely should have spoken up, but if you think the fear of ramifications is "B and S" you need to get out of your bubble.

&&&&

You're not getting it. I get fear of ramifications from someone like Ambra. Young, career just starting out, nothing to fall back on if it doesn't shake out.

I do NOT get fear of ramifications from someone who is established, has millions upon millions in the bank, and is adored by millions more. Many of the women, and men, were in that group.

Even if you felt fear at the time it happened, what is their excuse for not exposing it now when their careers were much more settled? And if they were so afraid of ramifications, why did they expose it AT ALL then?

What I'm saying, is that they are hiding the true reason (fear of taking Harvey out of the game and thus affecting THEIR paycheck, and their friends), and using "fear of ramifications" as a cop out EXCUSE for saving their own paycheck. And it's insulting to people like Ambra, who really did hold that fear.

Do they have good deals on jumpers there? Maybe she can pick up a few.

Sounds like it. Seems that this person has an obsessive love/hate girl crush on admin. I think it's kind of funny, but I bet admin doesn't find it amusing trying to respond to someone so dense. I must admit, though, that the troll is rather skilled at twisting words. I wonder if she or he is good at deciphering "Kate Speak."
