Recap: Kate Plus 8 "8 Movie Makers": Onlooker #2 films some orphanage kids

Still catching up on a few outstanding recaps, enjoy!

8 Movie Makers is another cop-out bottle episode, where it all takes place at the house, which is dirt cheap to film, and it's mostly filler. Thankfully it's only 21 minutes, so this recap should be much more brief and a relief for me!

I have a new toy. Amazon fire stick. It's amazing. It has a gazillion apps to access all the T.V. and movies you could ever want, and music, and it's only a one-time purchase of $39.99. Much of the content on the apps is free or at least partially free, if you're a cable cutter, and if you're not you should know you can now pretty much watch all or almost all of your shows this way for much cheaper than a cable box would run you. Even if you like a traditional "guide" and DVR options as you channel surf, you can still have that: you have the much cheaper options now of Playstation Vue or DirectTV streaming on your fire stick, both of which operate more like a cable box for a third of the price and no holes to drill in your floor. If you haven't cut the cord by now, why? They even have sports available now. Best of all my T.V. is mounted over my fireplace, and with the fire stick I don't need any wires coming down from it because it's just a little piece of plastic that plugs into the back. I'm in heaven! Fire stick is not paying me to say this nor do I make any dough if you buy one through the link I posted, I just like sharing things that make life enjoyable.

TLCgo has their own app for Amazon fire, and for once, TLC has an app that is smooth, organized and easy to use. You just browse or search for your series, and when it pops up it shows you all the seasons they have and all the episodes. Scroll on over to what you want and hit play and you're off and running. For the longest time I wasn't able to catch up on old recaps because I simply couldn't find the episodes anywhere, not for free anyway. I like that TLC has now put up all the episodes of all their series on TLCgo now. TLCgo is free, by the way, as long as it's part of your regular cable subscription (it should work just fine if you have Vue or DirectTV streaming, too).

This first aired in August 2011, a whopping six years ago. It's always interesting to look back and see what's different and what's the same. Things are frankly, mostly the same. As per the usual, Kate is taking credit for an episode idea in that she thought of it to have the kids make their own movie. The movie they are forced to live all the time for the cameras isn't enough? Geez.

A company called "Movie Makers" comes to the house, headed by Melissa and Sam. I googled the company to see if they're still around and yes, here they are, still running their camps and private lessons. Their 10 week classes are only $375, which frankly is very reasonable.  They're also still bragging that they are "as seen on Kate Plus 8". Seven years later maybe it's time to drop that association. What's also funny is I found an interview with a very polite Melissa about her experience on Kate Plus 8, where she explains that the idea to hire her was dreamed up by one of the producers brainstorming episode ideas, whose daughter had participated in Movie Makers and enjoyed it. Baw! Busted, Kate. Wait a second, why would you need to sit around a table brainstorming episode ideas for a reality show? I love when people inadvertently out this charade for exactly what it is.

Melissa is an "actor," by the way, and has a decent-sized IMDB page of mostly bit parts in mostly D-list shows and movies. But she did make an appearance or two on reputable shows like Army Wives and as "Onlooker #2" on One Tree Hill. Follow your dreams and all that. Onlooker #2, lol. I prefer ogler myself, and I'd like to be #1 please!

Well this is nice, Kate takes a hike because she wants the movie to be a surprise. More than likely this is not a trip so she's not interested, but it's fine by me. Imagine collecting a huge paycheck, likely in the high five figures, just by saying, "Here kids go make a movie with Melissa" and then going upstairs and cutting yourself up an avocado to put on your salad. Kind of crazy.

The younger kids seem awfully young for the things Melissa is explaining to them: rolling, speed, slate? The kids look like they don't care and more just want to play with the clapboard. I'm going to call this right away that this activity is way too old for them, teens would get way more out of this. With little kids, it just turns more into a chaotic play time. What is with this show and their struggle to find these kids activities that are age appropriate? Usually the activities are way too babyish, but it goes both ways, and this time the activity is way too mature for them to get much out of it.

Collin is yawning away on the couch. The kids pull out a crap ton of costumes from God knows where and start trying them on. What is this movie about? Are they just randomly picking customes? Do the kids understand what they're doing and why? Because I'm confused myself.

Well armchair psychologist this, Mady has decided the movie will be about an orphanage. Melissa instructs one of the sextuplets that she will play an "orphanage girl". Um, does she mean "orphan"? Oh well, actors are not known for being bright.

They cut to a shot of Sam folding up all the mountains of unused costumes and putting them back. Why aren't the kids doing that? They created this cyclone. What tends to happen to celebrity kids, wealthy kids or kids on T.V., I've seen first hand, is that when people come over like this, they don't treat them the same as they would other kids. Happens all the time. They get special treatment, including cleaning up all their crap for them. It's not good, Sam. Not good at all. When I nannied, I used to have to ask the housekeeper to please stop making the children's beds in the morning and cleaning up after them all the time, as I wanted them to make their own beds themselves and clean up after things themselves, and to get in trouble when they didn't. It didn't matter to me things weren't made up as perfect as the way Ophelia would do it, I wanted the children to have to do it. It's important. There is a long line of people in these children's lives who have done them no favors.

Melissa explains that they're going to start filming, but they will film out of order. That's typical of most films. Mady remarks that their reality show is filmed in order, so this is a change. That's not true, we have caught them multiple times filming out of order, and Jon was once ordered to keep his beard for the sake of "continuity." Now why would you need to worry about continuity if you were always filming in order? Heh.

It's fascinating to watch how much time they waste showing us absolutely nothing. There's a whole lot of the younger kids rambling, which is even more meandering because they're so young, and a lot of walking around, and nothing is happening.

Even at this age, it seems to me doing the camp, or having friends over to help make the movie, would be so much more fun than Mady and Cara having to direct all their younger siblings. Kind of a drag.

Collin and Joel are manning the cameras, and they're just way too young for this. They're chopping people's heads off gyrating them up and down so much I'm getting nauseous. Collin is wearing an adorable oversized pirate hat. Hehe.

Great, perfect! Melissa is constantly saying to everything these kids do. I can't stand when all adults do is over-praise kids.

Melissa's introducing herself again. I thought we already did the meet and greet portion earlier. Well, hello, again. Why do I get the feeling Melissa is the type of gal who tends to do stuff like mix up the salt for the sugar?

Melissa says at the moment the movie doesn't make any sense, but she'll figure it out. Um.

The TLC interns are getting cutesy, putting a little of the script up on the screen "Ext. Magical World."

Melissa thinks it's just so wonderful that the kids don't have a problem with looking at the cameras, which is the problem for other kids she teaches. Melissa, that is because since birth they have been filming a virtual Truman Show, you understand that, right? Don't you find their heightened abilities to work so smoothly with a camera crew at such a young age creepy, like, at all? She's getting dumber by the moment. I'm surprised she didn't use the cool industry lingo she's been invoking all along, it's called spiking the camera, and it's such a common mistake even from adult professionals that is should really weird her out these kids never do it.

The kids are starting to lose it with all this filming, and some are hitting each other and getting annoyed. Kate and Melissa are excusing all this atrocious behavior, especially with guests over, as just simply sibling rivalry.

Day three of filming? This doesn't sound fun. It sounds exhausting. That's over half the time it takes to film a real drama episode, like Law and Order, and it's well documented how exhausting those five days usually are. Why does everything have to be a 10 out of 10 here? Why couldn't they just make a short film for half a day or something, maybe a day? Melissa has given up even putting make-up on at this point, heh, and she looks tired.

At this point Melissa says she has no clue how the movie will turn out and it's all over the place. Um, isn't she supposed to be in charge here? How much is she getting paid to be this confused? And in conclusion, may I please remind you that it does not say RSVP on the Statue of Liberty!

So, was Kate really totally MIA all these three days? That's kind of odd, though I really enjoyed the break from recapping her histrionics. But, I have to admit, it makes the episodes even more boring than they usually are when no one is having a mental health episode for me to discuss. Kate said earlier she cleaned her room during all this time. Good, I'm sure it needed it.

Kate looks so tan she looks like she's a totally different race, she looks like people who aren't white but who like to dye their hair blond. She looks ridiculous, and you can really see the difference here in how much less she tans these days. They finished filming and now it's time for the movie premiere. They don't explain how they get from filming to a movie premiere. I'm guessing Melissa goes back to the office and splices it all together in between bit parts as Onlooker #2?

The kids are so young, I'm not sure they really know what a movie premiere looks like to get a kick out of this. But production did a good job nonetheless, making a real mini-red carpet at the house, and Melissa and Sam standing in as reporters asking questions. I like Melissa's movie poster, it looks like a poster from when Lifetime used to make halfway decent Sunday night movies about things like kidnappings. Not bad at all.

Melissa interviews Kate on the red carpet. Shmoopy is in her element. Talk about myself? Yes please!

They all line up on the couches and floor of course with popcorn, and watch the movie, The Orphans' Adventure. Good punctuation, Melissa.

So far this is kind of the plot of Annie, in which the hard knock orphans have to clean all day. Also, it sounds like their real life. Remember Kendra crying because the children had so many chores to do every day? It takes kind of a Stephen King-like twist when some of the orphans get sucked down into a vortex and end up..... in Kate's back yard, far as the eye can see!

I'm losing the plot here, suddenly there are other kids popping up in various costumes, and Mady and Leah find a pirate chest and take something out of it. Oh, Melissa.

For once I think Kate's expression is justified. She's trying to be proud of all this, but can't follow the plot either.

Leah and Mady aren't the worst actors in the world, I'm mildly impressed with their ability to trip and fall realistically, and make scared faces. But the best actor in this whole thing is wearing a unicorn costume so I can't tell who it is.

The hard to follow plot ends with some of the kids in costume inviting the orphans to stay with them. But why? It's extra mouths to feed, and they barely know them. Wouldn't it make more sense to call CPS if children are being worked to death at an orphanage? Or even the cops? Yeah this is me, during every movie. I'm that film-goer.

Melissa is getting quite lovey dovey with these kids after only knowing them three days, affectionately holding Leah's hands and swinging them back and forth and giving her a very warm hug. Does she honestly think that's a good idea for their sake? She's just going to be ripped from their lives at the end of the filming never to be seen again. This is a big reason these kids have the problems that they do now, the revolving door of people doling out love to them, then being taken away, including their own father.

This episode had a huge redeeming factor in that Kate was barely in it. She only swooped in at the end to obnoxiously make this all about Mady and her growth, when all the other kids, especially Leah, were chipping in their fair share and I'm sure grew too! And that's a wrap!

In the video Kate just posted Hannah complains that her "shoulder hurts SO bad." Then the one recording (Mady I think) asks her "WHY does it hurt you?"

The way they did it seems very purposeful. The way Mary said "Why" just seemed like it had meaning behind it. I wonder if it's the arm that Kate hurt when trying to pull Hannah out of Jon's car that day.

FYI said...

That's Leah playing basketball with Nanuq and Hannah is playing catch with someone else.

It's a tad interesting that after Hannah throws the ball the first time, she holds her arm and says "ow, that hurt". Then after she throws the ball the second time, she again holds her arm and says "ow, my shoulder hurts so much". Then you can hear someone say "why does it hurt", but it doesn't sound like Kate.

I think Mady is filming the video, and perhaps Cara is playing catch with Hannah, and she is the one who asked Hannah why her arm hurt. It sounded like her.

This video obviously wasn't filmed today, as the kids would be in school. Could it possibly have been filmed around the time of the incident with Jon, thus explaining why Hannah's arm was hurting? Or maybe it was filmed more recently and Hannah's arm is still hurting?

Is she claiming her kids filmed this because they just LOVE filming so much?

kateplusmy8 To make you smile... the kids took this video while out playing with Nanuq. It melts my ❤️ to see how much love my human and furry kids have for each other! I had NO idea she could do this! #Nanuq #PlaysBasketball🏀 #ThinksShesAHuman #SableKingShepherd #MyFurryDaughter #ILoveALLMyKids

I'm not smiling, I'm SMH over how transparently usurious you are, K8.

LOL:

monkfish18 Hannah is front and center again to show CPS, the court, the judge that we 9 are just fine! When you really aren't. (Collin). You must cross your fingers when you start filming the latest child being used to deflect. Or do you seal it with a kiss, like with the envelope with the audition tapes over 10 years ago?

So she's finally got a mean of control over her dogs. Which I guess is necessary if you aren't willing to take the time and effort to train them properly.

jammacey What is that around her neck, @kateplusmy8?

kateplusmy8@jammacey It's her GPS unit. All of our dogs got them for Christmas this past year. It's an amazing way to keep your dog safe!😍

Oh, really?

And here's a question we'd all like to see answered:

Hannah doesn't want to be standing in the driveway, randomly throwing a ball, when her arm/shoulder hurts. It's obviously staged. That's Kate's doing, of course--who cares if the kids are unhappy/uncomfortable/in pain? Filming comes first! Right, TLC? Come fast, and bring those cameras! The Gosselins are waiting for you!

When my kids were 13, they weren't standing in the driveway throwing a ball back and forth. At that age there were real, organized sports to play and practice. Homework needed to be done, there were friends to hang out with. Throwing a playground ball like that was for little kids.

Yeah, I think Hannah is purposely conveying a not-so-subliminal message here. And I wonder if Mady was actively colluding with her. Doesn't Kate look at this stuff before posting?

I'd be very interested to see what the public reaction would be if Josh was eased back into the show. I think TLC would go for it--they'd start with little glimpses of him in the crowd and gradually increase his visibility. People like the girls, and as long as the girls are the focus of the show, I think they can get away with it. It's obvious that JimBob and Babykins want to keep the whole family in front of the cameras (including themselves), and that includes Josh. The only thing that can change that is public reaction.
***********************************
What I can't understand is why the groups who called, tweeted & emailed the advertisers on 19 Kids & Counting have not done so with Counting On. We've already seen the gradual increase of appearances by JimBoob and Babykins. The LBGTQ community should be concerned due to the focus on Pastor Caldwell. Josh is surely not far behind.

On a side note, I spoke to a local advertiser this week about his ad which was shown this past Monday on Counting On. Turns out I had contacted him this past summer about his ad running on Counting On and he told me he had instructed his ad agency not to place his ads on Counting On in the future. So, honest mistake on the part of the ad agency or did TLC disregard instructions?

She's slipping! Can't believe she won't take Hannah to the dr. If it is not properly treated, it will act up for the rest of her life. If that was Leah, she looked sad and gloomy and so did Hannah.

Hannah could go to the school nurse but I wonder if the witch told her not to. Maybe Jon can use this video in court.

Tucker's Mom,
I couldn't get away with a short Farrah 'do. I have really thick hair--it would have been like a bubble around my head. My friend Cathy used to say, "You've got some big-ass hair there, Layla", or on particularly big-haired days she'd greet me with, "Helloooo, Tina!" (reference to Tina Turner's huge 1980s 'do). But yes, it required constant attention to stay properly fluffy and to make sure it didn't stick out like wings on each side of your head.

Did you also go to the local roller-skating rink on Friday and Saturday nights? The really cool kids had those covers to put over their roller skates--usually pink or blue. And there were those couples skates where you could skate with some cute guy while they played either "Babe" by Styx or "Beth" by Kiss. Ahhh, tween romance.

I wonder if she was trying to deflect from Hannah's injury by posting that video. Kind of like,
"See? She complains but she can still throw a ball, so she's not really hurt! Nothing to see there!" She's trying to plant the idea that H is faking her injury.

53.5 weeks until Mady and Cara turn 18. I wonder what will happen if they try to access their money, since they will be adults. I know in one early episode Jon and Kate set up a trust for the kids, and said they couldn't access some of the money until they were older. What I am curious about is the money the kids have earned themselves. Can she deny them access to that money until they reach 25 or 30 or whatever age she decides? It seems like the money they earned themselves should be available to them when they want it (so long as they are legal adults).

Kate has said before that the kids will have to get jobs to get cars, just like she did when she got her first car. But these kids have had jobs since they were toddlers. And judging by Mady's remark in that episode of Celeb Wife Swap ("All I've ever known is work"), at least she is very aware of that fact.

This is so true. We are lucky that we live within a few hours of Disney. My niece has a 5 year old daughter and takes her every weekend. My daughter has a 4 year old daughter and gets bummed that she can't take my granddaughter to Disney. I tell her that the free memories she is making with J are better because J will remember those instead of constant Disney trips. She takes J to chik fil a to play on the playground and have ice cream, or to the local park and library. A favorite thing they do now is rock hunting. And I told her when J is around 6-7 we will take a special trip to Disney. It will mean more to her than weekly trips.

WHY!?! Have they not totally dropped her yet? This was about 2 to 3 am this morning. This is especially weird because when the 3 episodes were showing she said she couldn't watch because they were on vacation. She could've easily watched pulling up TLC go on a device or if she didn't know how, the kids could have for her, easily.

She didn't want to deal with it.

No, TLC is not done with her yet. They said they are hoping to bring the family back for limited runs in the future, and I absolutely believe they are just waiting to overcome some hurdles before they resume filming. One hurdle is probably the upcoming custody dispute with Jon. If the court has in any way limited or stopped filming of any of the kids, TLC might decide to wait until it's worked out rather than try to get away with filming with multiple kids absent. I don't think they foresaw the negative reaction to Collin's absence, and they hope to avoid any further speculation that filming might be damaging to these kids.

They'll continue to film at some point because, contrary to Kate's (and her fans') opinion, most mom would not force her kids to expose so much of their private lives to the general public. Most parents protect their kids at all costs. TLC has found a few parents who are lacking that protective instinct, and they won't let go of them easily.

The next hurdle to be overcome is the kids reaching adulthood. As they reach age 18, Kate can't sign them up at will and force them to work for her. They will have their own demands, their own salaries, and their own input. It remains to be seen whether it's worth the effort for TLC to juggle them all. This isn't the Duggars, where the kids are all programmed to follow their parental leader without question. The G kids are going to make demands (Mady), and some probably won't agree to filming at all (Cara).

You've both perfectly described the common "sediment" that most here feel about the way TFW has chosen to raise her kids. I think she's shown just about every sign there is that she's stuck in a 12-year-old level of development. Lucky for her, but not the kids, she found a very selfish way to live out all her childhood fantasties; i.e. pimping out her family. And because she's so damn emotionally immature she lacks what most parents have, or should have, which is a primal instinct to protect their babies.

We're supposed to be our children's insulators. They're not ready to be exposed to everything life has to offer right out of the gate. The Gosselin kids never had a chance to experience the natural growth of childhood. There's no balance if everything is put on that golden platter all at once because their mother deprived them of that so she could gluttunously devour everything she could get her hands on. Her biggest burden is that she had to include them in on it in order to get it all. Look how that's working out.

They either stand with her or against her, and if it's against her, she'd make it hell on earth for them.

WHY!?! Have they not totally dropped her yet? This was about 2 to 3 am this morning. This is especially weird because when the 3 episodes were showing she said she couldn't watch because they were on vacation. She didn't want to deal with it.

I picked up Prince William's biography while on vacation for the heck of it and it's been an interesting read. Although he has come to accept the presence of the press in his life, he really hated it as a child, teen and young adult. He hated it even before his mom died but that made it worse. It seemed to disturb him to the core to feel "used" by the press to sell a story or to promote some thing or some spin by the palace. For instance, his appearance of "acceptance" of Camilla was heavily exploited by the palace to get the public to accept her. It just strikes me as such a good example of why a young person cannot and should not have to be in the public eye. Now that he is older he has a good emotional handle on it, but that comes from the wisdom and experience of a man in his 30's, not a 14 year old.

Diana disliked the press and she knew what it could do to her kids. But she did use some journalists to her advantage, too.

Thankfully she instilled a sense of gratitude in Will and Harry before she died. She took them to visit the sick and underprivileged so they could see first hand what that life was like. Both her children have followed her lead and involve themselves in charitable work.

Yes, the book admits that both took the children out in public or said things in public to play games. The children were smart and terribly embarrassed by it. William started to get very protective of his privacy and would make demands about the press's access that his handlers just couldn't deliver. At one point one of his press handlers implied he was being a spoiled brat not letting them have just ONE photo session during a very lavish ski trip. If William had it his way they would not even know where he was going to college. The book makes the case that once he met Kate he had a trusted adviser who helped him manage those feelings better, get over his somewhat spoiled tendencies and demands, and he stopped cowering behind baseball bats in public and held his head high and now does lots of press.

It does contend though that despite a rocky road in the beginning close to Diana's death they had hashed out most of their differences, were sharing the boys 50-50, and were able to discuss their best interest in an amicable way. It's reported they came to agreement on many issues including their schooling. It's also contended that before and after her death Charles has never said an ill word about her to the boys, explaining to people who inquire that she is their mother and they adore her and that is to be respected.

For as odd as a life they had and have even they were able to eventually work things out for the kids.

I think the reason Cara has said she wants to go to college far away is to get out from under Kate's thumb. If she's not there, then she can't be expected to film. It remains to be seen if Kate can bend Mady to her will. Mady is a strong-minded girl, but she is also the one who goes running to give Kate a hug when Kate starts to melt down. She grumbles, but she also offers emotional support.

Layla 61-
This is just my observation: Mady knows that Kate is mentally unstable and tries to pacify her in order to keep the peace.Maybe that is why they stay away from their father. I believe that M especially loves her mother , but she clearly doesn't respect her as we've seen. Also, I truly believe that Kate does and will make the twins feel guilty for "abandoning" her when it's their turn to leave the nest. M especially will let the guilt get to her and fall for Kate's manipulation.I hope not. I always felt that M wants a normal mother- daughter relationship with Kate, but it will never be a normal one, and she takes it for what it is. Even though their personalities are the same, they don't play for the same team. They are both, in fact, very competitive with each other. Especially Kate. C will do a lot better on her own. Shes always been more independent. You can tell she is SO over the stress that Kate brings.
Another observation, when Kate is seeing wearing the witch costume on the Halloween ep, Mady is seen hugging her. But Kate stands there, stiff as a board ,and doesn't hug back. It's always about Kate's needs. She doesn't have an affectionate bone in her body when it comes to her own kids. And on the twins birthday ep, Kate does hug Mady. But something about it is odd. Cara was not included and Kate seems to make a big deal on camera.
They got dealt with a very bad hand when they got Kate for a mom. I hope adulthood gives them the freedom and normalcy that they deserve.

Kate never was one for showing affection for her kids. I don't think she has it in her. Not all parents are warm and fuzzy and the huggy type, but you can show your love in other ways and I don't think Kate can do that either.

Once in a blue moon that she does show affection, it's strained and appears to be staged for the camera. I wonder if those kids will grow up to be the same way, never having been hugged just for the sake of hugging.

It appears to be that the relationship between Kate and the kids will never be normal, She's locked into that 12-year-old mentality and I honestly don't think that she knows how to show affection, either emotionally or physically, She is so immature and has no clue about parenting because she's actually a kid herself. It's sad.

Kate is a cold fish. I don't recall too many times when we've seen any of the kids exchange hugs with her or show affection toward one another either, except when Aaden was sick and Leah was trying to soothe him. (We did see them rubbing TFW's feet once in awhile). It's like they're all walking on a high tension wire in that household and I think we know why. They seem to have a lot of animosity toward each other, if anything, like they're always competing for first place in the Ice Queen's heart. You're right. It IS sad.

Some defendants dismissed but bulk of Duggar girls' lawsuit will proceed

FAYETTEVILLE - A federal judge Friday dismissed parts of a lawsuit claiming Springdale and Washington County officials improperly released decade-old information about an investigation into Josh Duggar sexually abusing four of his sisters.

Four daughters of the Jim Bob Duggar family sued the officials in May, claiming they improperly released redacted police investigation documents to a celebrity magazine, which published the information allowing the girls to be identified. The investigation determined Josh Duggar fondled the sisters and at least one other girl. The statute of limitations had run out and no charges were filed.

The daughters are Jill Dillard, Jessa Seewald, Jinger Vuolo and Joy Duggar.

Defendants include Springdale, former Springdale Police Chief Kathy O'Kelley, Springdale City Attorney Ernest Cate, Washington County, Maj. Rick Hoyt with the Sheriff's Office, former county attorney Steve Zega and Bauer Media Group, which published the magazine and related social media sites. The lawsuit also lists 10 unidentified "Doe" defendants, believed to be employees of the defendants.

The sisters' lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court claims due process violation in that the girls' rights under the Arkansas Constitution and the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution were violated by disclosing the reports and details of the investigation to the celebrity magazine.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages to be determined at trial.

City and county officials asked Judge Tim Brooks to throw out the lawsuit arguing they are entitled to qualified and statutory immunity from being sued and the lawsuit fails to state a claim. They also contended the information was public knowledge when it was released. Brooks heard arguments on the motions last week.

On Friday, Brooks refused to dismiss the Constitutional due process claims against O'Kelley, Cate, and Hoyt in their individual capacities.

Brooks said the girls had a reasonable expectation the information wouldn't be released to the public.

Brooks noted that, at the time the information was released there was a state statute exempting any information created, collected or compiled by or on behalf of the Arkansas Department of Human Services, Arkansas State Police, or other entities authorized to perform investigations or provide services to children and families from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.

"Taking the facts alleged in the complaint as true, any reasonable person in the position to make these disclosures would have understood that these disclosures would be published, would cause a national scandal, would be a 'shocking degradation' or 'egregious humiliation' for the plaintiffs," Brooks wrote in his ruling.

He wrote the plaintiffs had a 'legitimate expectation' of confidentiality and disclosing the material would violate their constitutional right to privacy.

However, Brooks dismissed official capacity claims against Cate and Zega, saying they aren't final policy makers but rather tasked, as lawyers for the agencies, with only giving advice to policy makers.

Brooks also wrote the lawsuit failed to state a claim against the city or county because there's nothing in the complaint to indicate the disclosures were anything other than isolated incidents rather than a policy or continuing pattern of misconduct.

Brooks ruled immunity isn't relevant to the girls' state law claims of invasion of privacy and outrage, but there are sufficient facts alleged to go forward on those claims as well.

Brooks noted in such motions he's required to accept all of the girls' factual allegations as true, and construe them in the light most favorable to them, drawing all reasonable inferences in their favor, but added, evidence in the case could prove the claims invalid.

`Ol Jim Bob and Michelle may just break Gothard tradition and do a happy dance now since they won the first round. They won this battle, but they will not win this war!

I guess Josh is regretting pulling out of the lawsuit.

If they do by any chance win, why even have the FOIA?

Even sensitive UFO documents are released under FOIA when someone requests them!

Even Kennedy's assassination files are being released very soon!

For those who believe that the clues to who killed JFK are hidden somewhere deep inside the government's files, this may be the last chance to find the missing pieces. Under the terms of the 1992 JFK Records Act--a result of Oliver Stone's 1991 movie JFK, which revived fascination with the idea of a cover-up.

The government was given 25 years to make public all related files. The time is up on Oct. 26, 2017.

About 3,000 never-before-seen documents, along with 34,000 previously redacted files, are scheduled for release.

The problem I can't work out how the Duggars are going to get around is that they WEREN'T identified in the documents. No names were ever released. I remember when the docs first came out we all could sort of take an educated guess who was who, but it was merely a guess and we couldn't prove it. The average person who isn't following them that closely would never be able to figure it out. The family then chose to identify Josh and the girls and cashed in. That was their choice. I really hope the attorneys haven't overlooked this important point, because in my view, it's the death knell to the suit.

Admin, yep, once you've invited Megyn Kelly and her crew into your freaking living room, it's hard to play the "oh heavens, our privacy has been violated" card. Especially when you've already filmed TV episodes featuring your little daughter having a seizure, and your grandchild being born on a toilet, and got a paycheck for both.

That said, what happened to the Duggar girls at the hands of their brother was absolutely awful, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Tucker's Mom said...

It will royally suck if the Duggars win their FOIA suit. If Boob never put his victimized daughters on the tv for money and fame, no one would probably ever have known their sick brother molested them, let alone know who they are when their names were redacted.
I hope justice prevails and they LOSE.

She had a manuscript. They found her dead in her bedroom and they said she had taken drugs and overdosed. She had given the manuscript to her trusted maid for safekeeping and they found her maid dead in her home and no manuscript.

After the Ariana Grande tragedy I worry when my kids are at a concert. I worry about people traveling. I worry about people at a mall. Schools, stadiums, public transit, walking down the sidewalk. Nowhere is safe. Some places just seem like targets such as Las Vegas as you said, but truly nowhere is immune to violence of this nature. However we must go on and not let this defeat us. This suspect seems like an unlikely shooter from what little we know. But then, there is not a 'profile' of a mass shooter or killer- too many of these events have been occurring in our world over recent years.

It includes never-before-released lab results from Kilgallen’s autopsy he obtained under the Freedom of Information Law.

They reveal the presence of two additional barbiturates in Kilgallen’s system — Tuinal and Nembutal — not just the first-reported Seconal, a sleeping pill for which she had a prescription. The tests also revealed a powder residue on a glass found at her bedside, suggesting that someone opened capsules and poured drugs into her drink, Shaw writes.

She simply must pull the little cotton tips off of each and every one she can get ahold of, and then scatter the little sticks and the tips all over the house. For some reason, she gets really mad about it and sits in the middle of the mess she has made, thumping her tail and glaring at us.

Hmmm, the news reports are now saying that Tom Petty is still on life support, but death has not been confirmed. I was just driving home from the beach early this morning with DH, and we were singing along to "I Won't Back Down". I said, "He has such an odd voice--I wonder who heard him sing and decided he needed to be a star". DH said, "His voice is unique. It made him stand out from all the rest". Then I got home and heard the sad news. DH is right--Tom Petty had/has a unique voice, and made some amazing music.

We spent a couple relaxing nights at Aunt Win's beach house (I'm not jealous! Really!). She used to be a Kate fan, but now can't stand to watch how Kate treats her kids. She caught on early to how Kate treated Collin differently from the other kids. She said she watched some of the 3 new episodes and told me what she thought. The Halloween episode--the frequency and level of the meltdowns was frightening. She thought Kate seems completely unable to cope and close to a complete breakdown. Kate said she shows her love for her family by cooking, but the kids only see stress and complaint--not love. It seems like Kate melts down at every bit of extra work, and uses it as an opportunity to make the kids feel guilty about being a burden to her. She also watched part of the skiing episode but couldn't finish it. The treatment of Alexis really bothered her. When the other girls were saying Alexis couldn't sleep with them, Kate didn't seem to care at all about how that made Alexis feel. She just got irritated about finding a place for Alexis to sleep. What kind of mother allows her children to band together and reject one of them without trying to encourage acceptance or cooperation? It's cruel to Alexis, and she turned it off. She couldn't stomach the thought of watching the 13th birthday.
Admin--funny. but she mentioned the same jacket you liked (from the skiing episode). Aunt Win has the same one! That bothered her a bit. But it turns out it is the North Face Indi (not Indi 2) hoodie, and you can get it in the same color combination as Kate's (and at half the price) on a site called 6pm.com. Win is a master at finding bargains.

Reports are that he is brain dead and was removed from life support, so at this point being alive is just a technicality.

Very few rock stars would have been the standouts in their school choirs. Thank goodness having what most would define as a "great voice" is not the prerequisite for being a rock star, or the world would have been without Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, etc., etc. Tom Petty became a star because he was an incredible songwriter and performer. I saw him in concert many times over 30+ years, including what shockingly was his last show ever, just one week ago tonight. The world has lost (or is about to lose) a rock icon.

In a word: The music to the best times of my life. For me, this is as big a loss as Bowie and Prince. Although not as eloquent as Dylan, Petty's lyrics were so often so right. His vocals, I think, sometimes masked how very perceptive his writing was. Doesn't matter; his voice was recognizable and welcome wherever and in whatever combination it was heard, and that's a tribute to his musicianship. Another great artist of my generation has gone before time, but I am so very thankful for all his music.

Yep, Tom Petty has been a big part of my journey from college to middle age. You're spot on...his writing was incredibly perceptive. A brilliant artist who sometimes was underappreciated. This one has hit me really hard.

Thank you for sharing. I never saw him and sadly, it's too late. He was on my bucket list, which I've been working on in earnest, given the major losses we've experienced lately.
I did see Sting in concert recently. Another first for me. Kicked myself for not seeing him before- he was that good.
Another major-ass regret for never seeing is the Eagles.

Paul Rogers (Bad Co.) is next on my list.

Ah, so sad!

I see today that Tom Petty was taken off life support. The world has lost a massive talent. Even though he didn't have a great voice, he was a maverick. I remember as a teen being blown away by the video (remember when MTV was still all videos?) for "Don't Come Around Here No More". That one was way ahead of its time. And "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" is one of my all-time favorite songs. I just read an article about his tortured childhood and his insecurity, and I'm amazed that he overcame so much to follow his dreams.

I love the nickname the writer gave TFW.

The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star’s girlfriend recently made headlines for creating a GoFundMe page to help him pay off family court fees after the bitter custody battle he went through with his ex wife, Kate Gosselin.

Now Gosselin’s mother, Pamela, is creating waves for speaking out against her former daughter-in-law, making terrible claims about her parenting style.

Since the two divorced in 2009, their relationship has been less than harmonious. Co-parenting?? Not at all. It’s went from bad to worse over the years, reaching a head on August 15 when police were called to parking lot of an orthodontist’s office after daughter, Hannah, had an appointment.

The police reports stated the 13 year old, one of the sextuplets, insisted on going into the appointment with her Dad, angering Kate to the point of attempting to pull her daughter out of the car. No arrests were made but Hannah had to seek medical attention for a sprained arm from the confrontation.

Pamela Gosselin was an eyewitness to the entire incident, causing her to speak out to InTouch Weekly magazine: “I would never have believed that a scene could be so horrible until I witnessed the custody exchange myself. How can a judge allow physical force to remove a child?” She also goes on to state a judge “took away Jon’s 50/50 custody of Hannah and claimed he manipulated her so she would not want to visit with her mother.”

Jon also supposedly had his visitation with the 7 other children reduced, only getting to see them for a few hours on Sundays.

The grandmother feels that while custody is a major concern, she maintains that the biggest problem is the psychological effect all of the drama is having on the children. She also suggests Kate get psychological help, although she says Kate thinks she doesn’t need it.

Hannah reportedly also told her grandmother that Kate forces all of the children to chant “we will not visit John” and they aren’t allowed to say “Daddy.”

Sounds like the whole family could use a lot of counseling, especially Krazy Kate.

Watched some of Leah's show today.

Anger, tears, praying that David Misgavige day of reckoning comes quickly.

When his dad and his wife left Scientology, his son David M. had him followed and watched very closely. His dad was in his garage, taking in the groceries and he had his cell phone in his shirt pocket and it started to fall out and he grabbed his chest to stop the phone from falling.

2 men in a blacked out van was across the street, saw what was going on and quickly called David M. and told him what was going on that they thought he was having a heart attack. David M. said, Do not interfere, do not call 911, LET. HIM. DIE!

Leah said a lot of the abuse that David M. has dished out was too late to have him arrested because of the SOL.

Most people as seen in the footage run in a crisis. The cops and other first responders, and a few civilians, stayed behind and helped get people out or treated the wounded or took down the murderer. I hope this will give some of their worst critics a little pause for once.

To be able to ignore your "flight" instinct in the face of death is the stuff of legends. Few can really do it when the rubber meets the road.

All the info they are releasing about this is massive. And god knows who leaked the hotel room photos. But it is certainly the most info-packed mass shooting I've ever seen.

Interest rates were significantly higher when she bought the McMansion. I wonder if it's occurred to doofus to refinance and lock in today's low rates before they are expected to go up again.

GollyGee said...

You would think that her trusted advisor in every aspect of her life would have told her that. From clothes, breast implant size and you don't tell her to refinance with a lower rate? I believe he helped her set up her offshore accounts and they started SK8 LLC.

Just another blow to the kids. If she has to downsize and sell it, the kids should get every penny divided equally to them all. Because Jon and Kate said, It was THE KIDS HOUSE!

Sad but true said...

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 130

She already refi'd once, after the divorce. Early 2010 maybe? Probably in the archives here.

Layla said...

She refinanced the house in 2011 from a 10-year to a 30-year mortgage. But she refinanced with an ARM. Interest rates were low, even back then. Why take out an ARM? And yes, with all those millions she had already made, why didn't she just pay it off? She said she will never move, so you'd think that paying it off so that she could secure that investment would be a priority. Instead she spent on trips to NYC to get her hair done and go out for dinner, for nails and tanning and spa visits. And she has nothing to show for those expenditures. Very irresponsible, especially when she doesn't have a consistent, long-term source of income.

She is always busting her chops trying to get freebies so why didn't she just get TLC to buy it for her?

They were HUGE when they moved into it. Millions of viewers, fans, endorsements. She should of negotiated for it to be paid in full. And she and Jon should of gave the kids a life time estate to live there because they have worked very hard and gave up their childhood for their mother's vanity and ego trip.

I can't imagine that they'd want to live at a life-time estate, and the logistics of dividing up the proceeds of a sale wouldn't be all that easy, especially if some wanted to stay there and some wanted to move as far away as possible. Who gets what and when?

Maybe she did try to negotiate with TLC to purchase the property and they said no dice. It could also be that she was advised to keep a mortgage because it would be beneficial to have it as a tax deduction.

We don't know the details of the financing of that property, who paid for what and why and how much. Nor should we.

Yes, her 'brand' is headed in the direction of Blockbuster video stores and that's gotta be pure hell for a narc like Kate. She must miss all the attention she was getting ten years ago, not to mention the freebies. And let's not forget the "I want Nobu" at the snap of her fingers stuff. She'll probably take any bone that's thrown her way now just to keep her face out there.

Layla said...

I don't think she'd take the risk of doing Celebrity BB any time soon. She's trying to hold on to custody of the kids, and leaving them for months would not bode well for her in court--especially since she's done it before (Celeb Apprentice). She'd have to make a choice--a temporary TV job or her kids. While I believe she would like to choose TV, she also knows that her "brand" would be done if she made that choice.

GollyGee (143)
I would be more concerned about the kids' own money. They have worked for more than a decade, and they should each have a nice trust fund for their future--and not just college. I can see Kate cutting them off after their college is paid for and letting them struggle while she stays in "their" house and continues her lifestyle. The lifestyle the kids have worked to provide for her, but will possibly be denied them as adults.

One person posted that she knows for a fact that there is an episode of coming out next week (Tuesday?). I haven't seen anything about it, but that wouldn't be surprising considering TLC's lack of promotion for the show over the past couple years. Anyone else seen anything? I suppose it's possible that the vacation to NC last summer was filmed with only 6 kids, maybe to test the public's willingness to accept the show with another missing child, but it doesn't seem likely. I guess we'll see soon.

"My heart hurts because you're almost adults". Yeah, I bet it does. Once they become adults, the gravy train stops, at least where they are concerned. Two fewer kids she can use to finance her lifestyle. She may be in charge right now, but that is going to change in a year.

Happy Birthday, Mady and Cara.

Only 365 more filming days until the magic number 18 and you will finally be free.

I wonder if her heart hurt when Collin had to leave?

Always and Forever No Matter What? What does that mean?

Looks like a guilt trip to me. Yeah, her heart only hurts when her ATM's start leaving the film studio.

I wonder if NeildShield is CPR Certified? He's her bodyguard, don'tcha you know. Her heart, her breast cup size.

If TLC has stopped filming (at least temporarily), then TFW has to be sweating the twins getting older. She has one year left to be able to sell off, and if all/some of that year is not being used to her advantage--well, that's time she can't get back once they are adults. She knows she can't sign them up for whatever she wants next year. She knows she can't take the money they earn for herself. And she has to know that "Kate Plus 5" (or fewer) isn't what viewers are expecting. Plus it doesn't rhyme. Life is going to get very real for her, very soon.

I wouldn't bet money on that. Missy Francis' mother continued to take her money after she was legally emancipated. Different situation, different time, but I still wouldn't put anything past Khate.

The way she keeps those kids sequestered on the konpound ... does anyone think any of them have ever seen a balance sheet re: their funds?

Aren’t they able to get a license at 17..... she must be losing her mind...especially if she has to shell out the money those kids made to pay for their cars...I’m sure caras already packing

Maybe she did. Don't forget that they have other ways of communicatin'. She has Kate on speed dial, and vice versa, so I would imagine she called the girls and she and LOM sang to them.

I wonder what gifts or how much cash she sent to them.

I'm sorry, but you'll have to add 'damaged' to that list of accolades. Cara and Mady have held a grudge against their own father for years and have punished him mercilessly, at the behest of their mother.
They both will have great emotional challenged in front of them unless they get REAL help and heal the horrific wounds that their acrimonious parents have inflicted upon them.

Where DO people come up with these stories? Not a single thing this fan says has been independently documented, and aside from "special needs," even K8 hasn't said them. We have no idea if he's even in a "school" as opposed to an institution.

kimmy_courageandhope@djoh9yi Collin is at a special needs school. He has really bad anger issues along with social and educational challenges. The special school is to treat him for his conditions. Message Kate and ask her what they are and she might reply to you but not likely.

oldjoan2014 Amazing. Happy belated 17th birthday Mady and Cara. I've watched every episode of your show. I hope you're not as unappreciative and rude as you come across on the show. Be good to your mother and your siblings. Family is important. Regardless of what you may think you are not better than everyone else. You are important just the same. Make good choices and God bless.

Notice how her "insider information" was carefully crafted so that all of Collin's issues are put on Collin. He is having issues because HE has anger problems, HE has problems socially, blah blah. Like they just came directly from him.

Nothing at all is said about environmental factors like his bizarre childhood being filmed, or on the woman who raised him.

Kate is NEVER the patient. Never the one with problems. It's always someone else and she just washes her hands as she offers them up to the treatment altar.

Collin is never coming back and that bitch has known that from to get go. I don't know why this isn't a bigger story.
It's horrific.

That sums up how much Kate refuses to take responsibility for anything that she considers an imperfection with her family. It has never been, is not now, nor will it ever be her fault. Such is the mindset of a narcississt.

Notice also she's the mother of "brilliant, beautiful, kind, caring, logical, responsible, empathetic, honest, amazing individuals".

A more earnest parent might have used a few less words to describe the love and pride they have for their children, not deify them with nine adjectives. But again, this is one more opportunity for her to tell people that these girls are the result of HER exemplary parenting, in spite of all the obstacles she's had to overcome in seventeen years.

I saw the TLCgo commercial with Kate in it. I don't think her portion was recent. She's wearing the same blue shirt with the cut-out shoulders that she was wearing in last year's promotional pictures. I'm guessing they did some little sound bites, and decided to throw one into this ad. When she's talking ("Nobody told you?"), one side of her mouth seems paralyzed--it doesn't move. I'm sure it's a botox thing, but it's very noticeable. Her mouth seems lopsided.

Kirkland (191)
I read the article--it's trying to sound balanced, but it's just making excuses for everything she does. I am so sick of the old "How else can she provide for 8 kids" argument. She could work and provide for them as a nurse--she doesn't need a sitter now. But she wants a bigger lifestyle. Nursing won't pay for the McMansion, pool, private schools, and multiple vacations each year, plus all the stuff she gets for free. And don't forget the things she gets for herself--she gets to live the house, gets bragging rights to the pool and school, and she gets her hair care (plus trip to NYC and dinner at Fig and Olive), tanning, nails, Botox, and spa visits.
What the article (and the sheeple as a whole) refuse to acknowledge is that Kate has made millions off those kids already. Unless she has horribly mismanaged all that money, she should have plenty to pay for everything for the rest of her life, plus cover schooling, college, and advanced degrees for the kids. The kids should also have a tidy sum of money to inherit even after their college is paid for--they have earned it. If they don't, then it's her fault.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but Jon posted a beautiful, simple message to Mady and Cara on IG. It's a stark contrast to the apotheosizing, overly flowery crap Kate wrote.

Imagine the atmosphere in that house if this birthday wasn't filmed. Of course, they could film a "pretend" birthday at a later date, but Kate definitely would have been working the phones to sell this milestone in her kids' lives. If they got to celebrate privately, that will be in spite of--not because of--their mother.

Yes, there's less than 1 year before her first nightmare comes true. Loss of control is going to hit her hard. And then it's a countdown until the second nightmare comes true and she can't expert complete control over any of the kids.
She'll Swiffer that comment because she can't deal with it. Reality (which is very different from reality TV, as she is going to learn very soon) is coming fast, and there is nothing she can do to change it.

@Layla Do you think TLC would plan a growing up Gosselin type of show like they did with the duggars?I'm not sure myself but i have this feeling that Kate would try to pull off something like this with Mady and whichever sextuplet would want to hop on and look at the duggar kids,so far none of them is thinking of ditching the money train. Then again the gosselin kids are different then the duggars.

The Harvey Weinstein saga has certainly shaken up the entertainment industry, especially now that the big names are calling him out. It’s about time these bullies were exposed.

It makes you wonder who we’ll be hearing about next.

Layla said...

I think at least some of the kids would be willing to go along with a show, even as adults. They are used to getting whatever they want just for the asking, and they're used to easy money. It's highly unlikely that any of them will be able to make enough money in normal professions to continue the kind of lifestyle they had growing up. Reality Twill look good to at least some of the kids. Others may want their privacy and opt out.

The real question is--are they still marketable enough to pull off another show? The Duggars have always gotten good ratings, no matter which members of the family are being filmed. the Gosselins do not get very good ratings, and haven't for years. Even if they are able to sell a new show to some network, they will be splitting their earnings among multiple people, and that won't provide as much for each one as they are accustomed to having. Kate won't like sharing the cash, either. It could end up being very ugly, We'll see. IF such a show is feasible, Kate will try to pull it off.
