Recap: Kate Plus 8 'Green Thumb Gosselin': Woman that chainsaw because it's time for 'Kate Plus Kate.'

Coming up on Kate Plus 8! Kate has so many dreams she should really do a sleep study. Now she wants to undertake a major landscape project. I know you're shocked, but watching someone else landscape is even more boring than doing it yourself.

"This show should be called Kate Plus Kate," Leah says as she makes every hater's day.

I think one of the most obnoxious comments a parent can make to a child is something along the lines of "when you're a parent one day you'll understand." Not that many parents aren't also guilty of it. I'm not sure adults realize how utterly patronizing it is, but it also is a sidestep to get around actually knowing, listening to and understanding your child and where they are coming from. It's a brush-off, and that's lazy parenting and just lazy life-ing. It's really for the child one day to realize it and approach their parent and say you know what, now I understand. That day will come, don't rush it.

Even funerals are conducted with the precision of the Schutzstaffel as they mass bury several dearly departed fish. Quick march! Unless you really dig deep some animal is going to dig that up within 48 hours. Gross. There's a heck of a lot of laughing and messing around from mostly Kate at this burial for a family pet. I find that disrespectful. Not to the fish, but to your children.

The landscape boy has a name, Eddie! Even Eddie seems skeptical about Kate's desire to involve the kids in this project. Kate says she doesn't like the word bribe, she prefers incentive. Makes no difference as long as the kids still film!

I don't know what Kate is doing with whatever unnecessary phallic kitchen gadget, but with that kind of impressive skill I don't know what's taking her so long to snag a man.

Cara lets it out that she usually rolls out of bed around noon. Mady too implies she slept late as well because she missed breakfast. While it's perfectly normal to sleep late at that age, it's also up to the responsible parent to not let them sleep that late and waste half the day. But I suspect with Kate it's just easier not to wake a kid up and have to deal with them, so sleep they can. Incidentally, that really puts the kibosh on any notion that the twins are some strange breed of teenager that don't need almost as much sleep as toddlers, according to science. Mady should not have been up late on a school night helping her mother tweet the creepy fans. She needs her sleep.

Hehe, karma. The boys are eating Kate out of house and home. They're just going to eat more, schmoopy has no idea. In short order Kate has the younger kids outside raking stones and doing other hard manual labor to some landscaping that looks fine the way it is. I don't even know the point of pushing all these stones around, they never explain. The kids get tired of it fast. Why is Hannah allowed to sit on the Gator and watch everyone else do hard labor?

Kate gets a dig in it her family. Why, when she was a kid she had to do hard labor every weekend. So? Doesn't mean your kids should have to do a giant project not suitable for them at all when you really should pay a landscaping company to do it. Don't be so damn cheap. Plus, in Kate's day, back in the day of walking to school uphill both ways, kids weren't nearly as busy as they are now. Kids now do far more work and are far more busy than a child raised in the 80's. Just all the homework the average child gets their age in one year is probably as much as Kate did in all four years of high school combined. Kate had time to help out with projects like this every weekend. A kid in 2016 doesn't.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with chores within reason, but expecting kids to give up a whole weekend doing back-breaking labor is unfair. What's more, they can afford to pay someone now when I assume Kate's family couldn't. Why shouldn't they? Bottom line, this stinks of an episode idea and but for the cameras I really doubt they'd be out here at all, and that's wrong.

Now Alexis has found a way onto the Gatar and is not working. The boys notice. Poor guys. How come Kate doesn't tell those girls to get off their butts and help out? It can't be that she has a problem giving orders. If they have to do this stupid project at least everyone should have to equally.

Colin is sitting on the couch but not saying anything as usual this season. But the look on his face this time tells me he is engaged and making good eye contact with the producer. He is by no means zoned out. However, he's sitting there, mouth closed, not speaking. And he will talk when the cameras are rolling out and about, he does in this episode, it's just not as often as the other kids. He speaks and explains things just fine, though. I know many have speculated about the various causes of him acting like this, but could there be a very simple explanation? Isn't it possible the child is offering up a silent protest by refusing to be interviewed? For some reason that never occurred to me before.

Coming up, caught in the sudden and precipitous highs and lows of a hormonal set of teenagers, poor TFW has struck out once again. Heh.

After what feels like hours Kate finally explains they're trying to clear all the stone from the front of the house. I still have no idea what's wrong with the stone at the front of the house. Joel worked at raking the best, so Kate puts Joel on the Gatar to drive the stones across the property. Kate makes a point to say she hardly ever lets the kids drive the Gatar out of safety of course. Wait, wasn't this their birthday present one year or something? Well that seems more than slightly dysfunctional, giving a child a present they can't even use. Like giving Grandpa a skateboard.

They dump the rocks on a horse path out back that seems to me already has many stones and gravel on it. The camera crew is using drones now and like a kid with a new Christmas toy the drone shots are probably on the extraneous side. Heh.

The girls seem annoyed the boys got to drive. Well, suck it up buttercups, they actually worked.

Kate's got some guy over showing her how to use a chain saw. Oh good grief. This is just absurd at this point. She has no business manning a chain saw. I have no business manning a chain saw. If Kate and I were supposed to man a chainsaw they would call it womaning. They don't! I don't care if that's sexist, but unless you're Sue Aikins and live on a remote airport outpost in the Alaskan tundra, you need to hire someone for something that involves power tools like this and get back to the kitchen. Even the 11-year-olds have more sense than Kate and instruct her not to embark on this.

By the way, I am a big Sue Aikins fan, and I think young photographer Joey L. took some absolutely stunning portraits of her a couple years back. Trust your photographer!

Oops, forgot to pause my DVR. In the time it took me to answer an emergency text from my girlfriend (boyfriend emergency type thing) guess what? Nothing important or interesting happened.

Here comes Leah's now infamous "Kate Plus Kate" comment, and I think it's important to hear it in context. She explains that Kate gets to do everything on this show, including using a chainsaw which is fun. While her remarks are not entirely true, they're a lot true. There are a lot of things Kate gets to enjoy without the kids. There are always various excuses why the kids can't participate in something she's doing. Leah is a mere two steps away from realizing why Kate embarked on this fame thing in the first place. Not for the kids and their fun and enjoyment and financial health. But for hers. The kids receiving some incidental benefits is just a convenient cover for Kate.

Commercials. We're back and they're off to the garden center. Shoka is a dog who misbehaves. It's not his fault. He barks hysterically at the van as they roll out, and he comes dangerously close to the tires chasing it. Sigh. That's lazy dog ownership, period. If you've really tried everything and your dog still goes into hysterics at your car, the dog needs to be put elsewhere when you pull in and out. Be a responsible dog owner or don't get a dog. Rant over.

Mady and Cara again opt out of the 6 a.m. call time for this nonsense. I guess no bribe, er I mean incentive, worked this time. I wonder what Kate is going to do when she has eight teenagers who aren't about to set their alarm for 6 a.m. to look at plants. Then it might really be Kate Plus Kate. Watch Kate rake stones by herself? Watch Kate pick out plants by herself? Watch Kate order about herself and talk back to herself? That might be fun karma.

Is that Eddie again? He's kind of cute, and has a good job. Why doesn't Kate date him? Oh darn just spotted a wedding ring.

The kids don't want to be here. Hannah says she's tired and Joel is outright scowling. I again feel the kids are justified in this. Picking out landscaping is an adult activity, unless you have a budding botanist--pun intended! Alas, none of these kids could plant their way off Mars or even their own back yard.

Bring him home! Again!

I understand many parents have to take their kids everywhere even amid whining and misery because they can't get a babysitter or their spouse is not home to babysit or maybe they're a single parent. But Kate is not one of those parents who takes her kids everywhere because she has to or they all just enjoy the company. They are often home while she's out and about doing things adults do, the pap photos prove it. Plus she has a nanny named Andrea and has had a nanny since they were babies. I simply don't believe Kate would bother to drag them along on any of this but for the cameras.

At least the kids perk up a little over the little lamb's ears plants, which just looks like a regular old plant to me.

Back at the house stupid Kate didn't check the weather report before planning a cookout. Either that or they had to do this today because production was coming over, which seems more likely. Speaking of Andrea there she is, apparently on egg duty. Might I recommend weather.gov (not weather.com) for an hour by hour very accurate weather report for your cookouts. It will even tell you the level of cloud cover, and it's iPhone browser friendly.

I don't know what Kate needs a deck for. She has all the kids hauling all the food outside, it doesn't have to inconvenience her a bit.

This is not a sprinkle. It's raining buckets and it's thundering. But because Kate is pathologically stubborn she gets the grill out anyway. I haven't the first clue why she has the kids outside on their open lawn shucking corn. Where there's thunder there's lightning. This is incredibly dangerous and no set teacher worth their license would allow it.

I'm not sure Kate realizes that hobo really has become an offensive term to lots of people. While I understand you might still say it around your family, why would you say it on national TV? But then Kate is ignorant.

We spend an inexplicably long time discussing what Kate is going to do about grilling now that it's pouring. My suggestion is to cut to the chase and shit or get off the pot. Either grill or don't grill, but pick one for Christ sake. Nothing interesting is happening except Kate calls Joel a "dumb-dumb." That's awful. Also, not accurate. She's the dumb-dumb.

Kate is suddenly freaking out on Cara, who doesn't understand why Kate is yelling at her. Neither do I, I totally missed it nor do I care.

I shouldn't recap when I'm hungry. This is one of the first meals Kate's fixed up that is something I really want to eat. She's got nice thick steaks on the grill sizzling away, along with a wonderful mix of red and green peppers and onions. Medium rare please. Let it rest. Slice that steak up against the grain and put this all on a baguette with some gooey melted provolone cheese and you've got my death row last meal.

Kate finally admits Andrea is the summer babysitter. I think it's appropriate to insert a "duh" here. She really thinks viewers are dumb-dumbs. Everyone knew Andrea's role already. The first few episodes Kate misleadingly tried to imply Andrea just showed up on this or that day because Kate called her up to see if she was available. Real casual like. As a rule, I don't like dishonest or misleading people. I don't understand why Kate's always been so damn reluctant to admit she takes advantage of and can afford full time in-home childcare i.e. a nanny. And yet, she allows these people to be seen on camera over and over where we can see for ourselves they're over there all the time. I think it's fair to say we see the nanny with the children far more than we don't see her. It seems like such a paradox. It wouldn't be hard at all to omit the nanny from the episodes, yet Kate doesn't. Weird.

Kate gives Shoka a huge pile of people food when they're done. God, she's the worst.

Commercials. Oh by the way, we never saw the little spat between the twins and Kate advertised before the last segment. Which means it must be coming later in the episode. There is something very creepy about the idea that you would hype up a conflict with 14 year old children over several segments. Stay tuned, don't go away! The Dionnes will be back for another viewing at a quarter past the hour! The best is yet to come!

We're back. More drone fun. I think it's funny how hodge podge these episodes have become. Just shuttle the family around to various activities and see if conflict develops. Now, out of the blue, Kate's yoga teacher comes to the house to teach the kids yoga. Yoga poses hurt and I can't imagine it would be made any better doing a private lesson on the lawn next to your mansion. The problems of the 1%. Collin looks really (quietly) proud of himself for doing a handstand. Aw. I don't like how Mady is sitting on a mat but refusing to participate. It's rude.

For gaming fans, the funniest yoga session I've seen was in Grand Theft Auto V. Loll.

Finally the people who should be planting the plants, the landscaping company, come over.

Ha-ha, this is getting so random! Next we're doing a lemonade stand? They want to do one for the landscape workers. Are they going to charge for this, because that's pretty tacky. I hope not.

I noticed the sign also says "and lunch." All due respect to them but I wouldn't go eating some home-cooked lunch a strange family provided to me. It weirds me out.

In an eerie throwback to the Jon days, Kate snaps at Joel that she wants him to say "hey Mommy, can I help you with anything?" Joel looks both confused and very upset, not replying. She then snorts, "One way you can help me is by staying out of my way!" My God, what a f-ing bitch!

When will the kids be allowed to call her "Mom" by the way? This Mommy thing is getting just silly.

For some reason Kate decides now it's time to show off and remove a wasp nest, which should be the landscape workers' job. Does she have any idea how to use wasp spray? It shoots really far, you don't need to get as close as she got. Hehe, she drops her phone and cracks the screen. Karma!!! That will set you back at least a hundred bucks and that's if you're willing to go to a unofficial Apple store. What a doofus.

Eddie brings his wife Lori over. Oh gosh she's adorable, and great with kids! She looks them dead in the eyes and asks them questions. She acts interested, probably because she actually is. They need so many more people like her in their lives. She reminds me of a brunette Laura Dern. She helps the kids plant the lamb's ears. Some of the kids are wearing weird Stevie Wonder sunglasses.

Collin is speaking on the couch, and explains how to plant a plant. While this is very boring, it's nice to see him speaking up finally and he sounds happy.

Kate works up a few tearless tears just like Farrah and says she's happy the kids were so happy to get involved. Is it a prerequisite of a narcissist that you must be an ugly crier?

Coming up, they're still pitching the conflict between Kate and the twins as if it will be in the next segment. Maybe it will finally be in this one.

The kids serve the workers lemonade and lunch, which looks like ordered sub sandwiches. Fair enough. Lori is incredibly good with children. She continues to ask the children good questions like she's interested in them, such as if you had some free time what would you do. That's a great conversation starter with a child. The kids are eager to answer. I have never seen Kate sit down with her children, look them in the eyes, and truly have a conversation with them. Lori helps Collin speak some Spanish to one of the workers, and he's so proud of himself.

We're back the next day and now the kids couldn't be more into this project. I find it interesting although not surprising that with Kate this was all scowls and peace out. But now that someone cool and good with kids like Lori is there, they couldn't be more enthusiastic. Even Collin is talking up a storm, unlike any other episode this season. So in actuality it wasn't the planting itself that they objected to. It was who they were going to do the project with. An adult who knows how to be with children makes all the difference in the world to a child and their willingness and enthusiasm. Kate sucks at it, and she probably always will, and she will continue to have to battle her children on every little thing because she has no idea how to be with kids. Naturally Kate is clueless about why they are suddenly into this but is proud of them. I think she actually takes credit for this sudden blossoming herself. What a fool. I don't know about their indiscriminate affection toward a worker they only just met as they give him big bear hugs, but at least they are enjoying their day.

Coming up! The conflict between Kate and the twins, which was supposed to be in the past four segments. Heh.

Kate is ridiculously proud of herself for ordering each of the kids gardening stones with their names on them and a graphic like a snail. Sometimes I get embarrassed for her. The younger kids actually adore the gift, because they're young enough that this isn't too babyish yet. But even without all the build up I can picture the teens finding this downright stupid.

And here it comes. On Cara's stone Kate had inscribed "It's mine. Stay off of it. I warned you about it." Mady's says "Don't step here! Don't say I didn't warn you about it!"

Kate thinks this was an inside joke among them. Her first mistake was ever thinking she is on the inside of the joke with a teenager. She's one of those adults, and it's obnoxious. It's funny and sad to picture Kate as she spent God knows how many hours ordered these, probably on Home Depot's web site. You know she had this fantasy as she clicked her mouse of the twins opening their stones to giggles and smiles and "thank you, Mommy!" They group hug as the birds tweet and the sunlight warms their heads, and she is the bestest most coolest Mommy of teens ever!

Cue the Price is Right "wa-wa-wa-woo. wooooooo!" sound effect as Schmoopy way underbid on that boat.

The teens are being real brats about how much they hate the gift. They don't even want the stones to be put out. A tiny part of me feels bad for Kate. She looks really bummed that this blew up. She really did make an effort to do something nice for the children, even if she did it just to pat herself on the back. This is something they could each have of their own in the new landscaping. Mady and Cara could grow up and just suck this up and say thank you. They don't have to play with it for pity sake or even ever look at it again.  Hate to break it to them but chances are like many mothers she's going to give them a lot of bad gifts over their lifetime they don't like or get. But as you get older you start to understand that it's the old cliche it's the thought that counts, and that it's cruel to make Mom feel bad just because she sucks at being clairvoyant. They are old enough now to start developing that.

On the flip side, I think Kate could have saved a lot of bridges by involving the twins in this secret gift. Have them help her design stones for the younger children and as a reward they can each design their own stone. It would make the twins feel special and worthy of more privilege because they are older, and then they couldn't complain about their stones. But she doesn't have foresight.

And here's where my allegiance shifts back to the twins. Kate's still arguing with them about this, trying to reason with them. Let it go. They don't like the stones, they're being ungrateful and bratty, but give them their space to sulk about it and ignore them. I promise they'll be over this within hours. And here's her stupid comment about how Mady will understand one day when Mady is a parent. That couldn't be a more infuriating thing to say. She antagonizes them and I think she knows it and what's more, likes to. Cara spits that they're never having kids because they don't like each other. Sigh.

Sure enough on the couch Mady and Cara are now saying, presumably days or even weeks later, that they're over it. Lol. I mean, it's still dumb, they explain, and never very funny, but they've moved on. Of course they have. They're teenagers.

Kate also got stakes for the kids with their names on they can stick next to their plants. I like that.

The younger kids at least seem proud of what they accomplished. They were lucky they had nice employees engaging with them.

They show this weird outtake of the twins on the couch fighting about how they should stop saying stupid things or go faster. It's neither funny nor interesting. It's just awkward. I continue to worry that if these episodes keep showing the children saying such dumb and uninteresting things, they might actually think those very same things were important to say. And that's bad.

On the next episode. Kate, who doesn't work and hasn't worked in a decade now, and has an army of paid help to do everything for her, has trouble carving out special time for the children. Heh.

Lanc Native, we are in the twelve to eighteen inch range, but that may be decreased. Snowed stay from eleven am to five thirty pm, then switched over to sleet. Right now sleeting. We are hoping it switches back to snow, don't want ice to pull down power lines.

It has to be Collin that Jon does not see. How many pap photos have we seen of her on the weekends with the twins and Collin? Plenty.

I'm equivocal when it comes to Jon talking about how he's not getting to see the kids when it's his visitation. However, what disturbs me is that in what? Two or three YEARS, he's saying the exact. same. thing.
Kate can't possibly have the power to flip him the bird every time he comes to get the preordained kids. A parent can get put in jail for doing that.
Something doesn't make sense.

Tucker's Mom, Kate new refrig. (the one she got in the past year or two) has a water/filter thingy (ha!) on her door. Maybe she doesn't use it because of that, I don't know. But she is probably spending a small fortune on all those water filters for those pitchers though.

You know as much as Kate's fans paint Jon as a deadbeat dad.I will be honest and say i looked at several lists of top celebrity deadbeat dads and not 1 of them has Jon on it.You would think that if he was as bad of a father his haters make him out to be surely he would of been on all those lists i saw.

Jon's not a deadbeat. He's just a parent in a parental alienation situation. Add to that a narcissist and it's a two-fer.

I can't even feel shocked by it having worked with many families with a narcissistic parent or a parental alienator. I actually find what he has faced rather typical in other similar situations. But sadly there is no good answer for him. He chose to have children with someone like Kate. The signs she was like this was there. This is now what he has to deal with for the next decade and probably more, and I think he owns his choices.

I don't believe for one second that Jon is doing anything negligent or harmful toward his children.
Passive, yes, as in he's passed the action off to his attorney to handle. He probably notes things that are wrong (one child not here again today, one child in tears for an hour about xyz at home, etc) and passes the info to the best lawyer in Berks. The lawyer will know the legal routes. Jon just needs to get word to all of his children that they still live in his heart and he is available to them as much as he is allowed to be. I think he did just that in the Steve Harvey interview re: his one absent son. Will an 11 year old boy be tuned in to Steve Harvey? I seriously doubt it, but word gets out through teachers, phone calls with Dad, etc. I think, from what I can see, Jon is dealing with an impossible situation with grace, honesty and just enough info to let people know he is genuinely concerned for his children.

I liked the Jon I saw on the program, wrote off his Hailey/Ed Hardy/sports car days as his rumspringa, and see the dedicated, loving, involved father all over again. He's someone I wish was my real life friend.

Snow, sleet and ice are the worst for power outages. Hunker down!

We still have another 20 hours of this left, and at a rate of one to two inches an hour, this is getting to be scary. Power is still on, but we are under a blizzard warning, and the local weather guy, who has been on the job for 30 years, said in his career here he's only had to give a "blizzard warning" about three times here. Roads are a mess; there were several house fires and multiple accidents. I just want this to be over! At least I went to the brewery today and stocked up. Winds are howling and the pets are very nervous. I imagine we will have a full bed tonight. Even doctors' offices, banks, grocery stores, pharmacies are shut down tomorrow. Snow plows are struggling to keep up.

Other locals -- stay safe. I know that there are some in Berks, Bucks, Lancaster, and Chester, but I'm not sure about west and north of Harrisburg.

Sat. morning and we have 15 inches so far. The power is on, thankfully. We need it on so many levels, mostly doing laundry!
We are so lucky that our neighborhood gets plowed frequently. It makes walking the dogs possible. Although, I'm going to have to carry the Bichon to the street!
The dogs are curled up on the bed and savoring the last hour or so before they have to go out.
Be safe to all those in this blizzard!

I agree. Kate waxed poetic about praying that God would sway Jon to agree to have more children, but my guess is that she browbeat him until he capitulated.
Is that weakness? I guess, combined with immaturity that allowed him to be manipulated and not stand his ground.
Looking back, who's the dumb dumb? Jon was so happy with his twin girls-over the moon-and was fulfilled as a husband and father (so sad that ironically, these same girls are pretty much estranged). It was Jon that said, "hey, you thought you couldn't have kids and now we have them!. We've got a beautiful family, so lets be happy with what we've got; our family of four". It was Jon that knew damn well that they were barely making it as a family of four. Jon DID have his head on straight and was the realistic, mature partner in that marriage in that regard.
That wasn't good enough for Katie Irene. She wanted not "just one more", but multiple multiples.
People seem to conveniently forget this.

If the court orders the kids to be with Jon during his visitation, it's Kate's responsibility to produce them.
You don't call your lawyer, you call the police.
Why isn't Jon calling the police? After a year and a half of this, Kate's ass should be in jail.
I just don't get it. Are there loopholes that she's getting through?

Remember when Whoopie chewed Kate's head off for stepping on Jon's custody time at the compound? She adamantly said that Kate could have gone to jail for interfereing, and Kate nodded "yes", she understood that.
I can only conclude that Jon is not standing his ground on this, and I don't at all get why he's not fighting, even if some of his kids don't like it (right now).

Tough shitski.

TLC stinks said...

There is something that smells that for so long Kate has been keeping some of the kids from Jon. We don't know but something is off. Anyone else would have called the cops pronto if the mother was behaving like Kate. Jon complaining on Steve Harvey does not cut it. Since he has an attorney, I am sure there is communication between Kate's attorney and his, but it's unacceptable what she has been doing (unless there is a deal, and unfortunately, that may be it).

A question for the courts & the court of public opinion said...

Jon says, in the Steve Harvey video, that he is "more frustrated than angry" about the visitation schedule and lack of co-parenting. But....Watch his hand movements when he says that, how he presses his palms along the length of his thighs. It's as if he's smoothing away his real feelings.

What parent, when faced with this custody situation, wouldn't be filled with bitterness & outrage? We can easily understand that range of emotions, all the better if they're expressed in rational terms, as he had the opportunity to do here.

I'm no cynic, but something about this whole thing rings hollow.

I understand he might want to present himself as the reasonable adult, one who's learned his lessons and is now circumspect, mature and practical. But saying he's "frustrated" (with a mostly passive face)?? If he wants to see them all, without repeated and inexplicable "stopgaps," I don't think it serves him (or the children) well to downplay the larger truths of this horrendous situation.

TLC stinks said...

You know, Jon saw ALL the kids at that yard sale that TLC was filming. Wasn't he there to pick up the kids for his custody time and get under Kate's skin by showing up? He could have had someone record that encounter of her not allowing all the kids or bring a cop with him. Really, if my ex was keeping some of my kids from me, I would raise the roof.

Formerly Duped said...

Agree. While we don't know all of what Jon is doing legally to try get fair custody of all the children, I just can't fathom why Kate isn't forced to comply. I also wonder why the courts would allow all this to go on- children not wanting to film, accusing Kate of cruel treatment etc if it's true, and I would believe it is.We have her journal and what is seen on the show as 'proof.'

LaLaLandNoMore said...

TFW has run the show since before day one! Obviously, she is a master at manipulation who first hitched her wagon to Jon and then to TLC. She thought he was a catch just from his family history. I have heard her say how much she personally misses Jon's father, the doctor. That doctor provided for them, then he died too soon. Users want what you can give them; not a true relationship with give and take. "Mine, all mine" is how TFW must be described. If you try to befriend her, she thinks she owns you, too! When the well runs dry or gets tired, out you go. We have seen it all from earlier times on J & K plus 8. Nothing has changed and we probably do not know half of it. Sad to hear Jon is going on television for any reason.

I was just reading this on bbc.com

Some tips on surviving a snowstorm:

1.Make sure you have at least three gallons of drinking water per person, per day

2.Tape the windows with bubble wrap to keep the heat in

3.Use your dog to measure the snowfall

Okay I get tip number 1 and 2 but number 3? What, do give your papillon a ruler and toss him out the front door? lol

OT, but not really.

We are officially snowed in, and that's not one of Kate's exaggerations. We're at just over two feet right now, the biggest storm I can remember. Travel ban is in place and only emergency responders are allowed on the road. Heck, we couldn't get to the roads if we wanted to. Yes, this area is used to snow, but nothing like this. Thank goodness that so far the power is on. If it goes off, there's no way to even get to a shelter. There are so many abandoned cars on the roads that the plows are having trouble getting through. The governor just said this is historic, with more snow that we had in '96. We have more than DC, and they were supposed to get hit the hardest.

On topic -- I thought of Kate when I just heard a report of several roofs collapsing and some photos of two second-story decks that have collapsed. I don't know how things are in her area. I haven't yet checked. I hope Deckster is alive and well.

This is supposed to continue until late tonight, with about 2 inches falling per hour. In the heavy bands, we have three inches per hour. The worst part is the blizzard, with total white-outs. The big thing with this storm is the duration. It just keeps coming. It's unrelenting.

We're not going anywhere anytime soon. I hope the other locals here are safe and have a good supply of liquid refreshments on hand!

PA Dutch Mom said...

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

You throw him out the door. If he comes back in, there's only an inch or so. If he doesn't come back and you can't see a head sticking out of a snow drift, it's more than a few inches.

&&&&&&&&&

"Saw" them doesn't mean that he took them all along for visitation. Certainly he could have been armed with documents and brought a cop with him. However, I don't think that calling law enforcement would have been the way to go. That wouldn't have been in the best interest of the kids, especially at a public event. You have to be very careful in such a situation not to do anything that would be traumatic or frightening for the children.

If it gets that bad, which I doubt it will, the fire department will come around and evacuate people to emergency shelters. They did so during our epic ice storm. Don't worry.

I kind of have to snort at the "2 feet" snowstorm. When you grew up along the Great Lakes a 2 feet storm and sometimes much more was a regular occurrence every winter. It's doubtful that would even cancel school unless it was really cold and icy too. We just got dumped on constantly all winter.

It's funny how different amounts mean different things depending on the region. Stay safe everyone.

If I recall, Deanna had tweeted before about Kate not commenting on Jon. KIAT could probably find it, but the wording was basically the same. I remember us talking about it...how disturbing it was that she would speak for Kate and how potential clients would react if they knew that she might breach confidentiality.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Jon at this point needs to call the police to enforce his family law order. They will do so. That is something that has to be done in messy family law cases, and I personally have witnessed the police do so at court when a parent was refusing to turn over a child after a hearing. We called, actually, upon our advice. The police were very calm and nice about that, did not scare the child, and the situation was resolved within about 20 minutes. That is part of their job and something they do all the time.

My sense is Jon feels like his children will never forgive him if he has to have the police turn them over to him, and it will just make things worse. He may feel like this will just make Kate look more sympathetic. (I don't think it will). He may have an Elian Gonzalez-like fear of some kind of traumatic exchange. Remember that? http://a.abcnews.go.com/images/International/AP_elian_gonzales_raid_01_jef_150421_4x3_992.jpg

If that is the decision he wants to make I respect it, but I don't agree with it. I think it's a matter of inflicting temporary stress on them to prevent long-term permanent damage. I think he is fearing something that is not going to happen.

It's entirely possible his attorney is begging him to call the cops, and he won't.

That's frightening. Twenty feet doesn't seem like much when you're looking upwards but it's long drop downwards. I hope she fully recovers from her injuries.

Those beachfront properties with decks always seem precarious to me what with the wind and saltwater corrosion, no matter how well they're constructed.

Well, the governor wasn't snorting this morning and will hold a press conference this afternoon. He appeared to be really concerned about this, with possible loss of lives from people being stranded and emergency responders not being able to get to them. It's the rural roads that are a concern. Snow plows aren't able to keep up right now. They can't seem to get ahead of this. The problem is that state employees are having trouble getting to their jobs to plow the roads.

Not sure how we could get to school when so many roads to them are closed; school buses couldn't get through. Just heard about a trucker heading to Florida who was stuck at the gas pumps when trying to refuel. We have a high intensity snow going on right now.

People are stranded on the turnpike and the National Guard was called in. This isn't something to be taken lightly.

I've often thought about the parallels between Jacob Roloff and the Gosselin kids. I think how that young man was treated for coming forward and saying that he did not enjoy filming.

His own mother even publicly downplayed his feelings by simply saying she was sorry it was hard on him. Hard on him? You sold his privacy and put his entire life on display for nearly a decade.

I have no doubt in my mind that Kate herself (and her handful of sycophants) will totally make her out to be the victim should (when) any of the kids finally come out and say that filming ruined their childhoods.

OT:
Checking in with regards to Kate's county. Yep. She has snow, and lots of it. I'm sure Milo has been monitoring this, with blow-by-blow warnings for Kate.

The concern is power outages. I can assure you that if 4,000 customers are without electricity/heat, as they are now, no fire company will drive home to home to transport people to shelters. It's physically impossible. If there is a need for shelters, you get there by yourself, unless of course, if there is an evacuation from a nursing home or medical facility.

Winter Storm Warnings are one thing; blizzard conditions are another. Winds of 45 mph result in white-out conditions, and with wind chills at five below, there are problems. School would definitely be cancelled, no matter if you're used to mega-storms or not. You can't have kids out in these conditions, and even if roads were passable, with bans in place in many areas, cars and buses cannot be on the roads. Most often the roads are cleared within hours and by the next day you can't even tell that it snowed. It will not be like that this time. There are travel bans in many cities and non-essential drivers will be fined. Residential roads, we're told, may not even be opened until tomorrow or Monday. PennDot had planned for a big storm, but nothing like what happened in southeastern PA.

They just interviewed a state cop who was adamant when he said, "STAY OFF THE ROADS." They have having a nightmare situation because people are getting stuck and just leaving their cars in the middle of the roads. Right now a tractor trailer has flipped sideways on an interstate and it's just impossible to get a tow truck to him to get him off the road. As a result, the emergency rescue teams cannot get through.

Governor Wolf has reported that if people continue to use the roads, he will close the highways, even the major ones. He is extremely displeased about what happened on the turnpike with people being trapped there since midnight when there were accidents and people should have been off the roads.

I know in the past where we've had eight to ten inches or so, there has been so much media hype that it's been quite funny. We always joke about the National Weather Service guys standing out with a measuring stick freaking out over a few flurries. Usually it's just snow. We all grew up with it. We are used to snow in this area, but this one is different and the media is not making this into something it's not. The governor said that this is a huge challenge for the people of the state. They are now predicting a total of three feet in some areas. I really think that the totals surprised many people. The estimate had been 14-18 inches.

The one positive thing about all of this is that it's not a wet, heavy snow that they thought it would be, so power outages aren't as numerous as expected.

At least I'm not in labor, and don't plan to be, and as far as I can tell, there are no stray cats in my yard! Of course, I can't even open the back door to the deck...

The Great Lakes region devotes much more money to snow removal. A two footer would have been plowed away by noon at the latest. Usually in time for school. Most of the areas hit this week don't spend as much on snow removal since it's not as frequent which is why a nothing storm to many other regions is shutting down areas not used to it. Just like how Southern California goes into disaster mode after just a few inches of rain when the northeast wouldn't bat an eye. Pretty simple to understand.

NYC and LI have basically shut down. No trains, buses and most bridges have been closed. Broadway is shut down tonight as are most other venues.

It's really exactly as we predicted. Some of the kids would be influenced by Kate and her alienation, some wouldn't.

Admin, this is a very bad REGIONAL BLIZZARD. It's a huge storm system stretching from North Carolina, Kentucky, thru Virginia to DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, NYC, up to New England. And in central Virginia, it's not just the snow, it's the sleet and ice. I've been out with the dogs and to fill the bird feeders. There are several inches of snow, covered with a layer of ice from the sleet, and that's covered south more snow, and then for the last two hours the snow has been falling heavily and blowing that I can only see outside about two hundred feet. And if the power goes out in our rural county, everyone is on their own. Governor of Virginia has asked everyone to stay off the roads today, tomorrow, and Monday.

I never said it wasn't, merely making a comparison as to how different regions react to the same thing.

A two footer would never paralyze upstate NY, where I am from too, unless there was some other factor like ice or extreme cold.

A lot of the shut down is actually preventive. Making sure nothing is running and everyone stays put so that nothing bad can happen. It's actually a very wise and conservative way to handle a storm when you don't have the snow removal equipment to deal with it. Don't have people out there in the first place where problems develop.

A local tv color commentator, Pat Collins, is the "snow guy" for every storm. He has his eponymous "snow stick" and measures frequently, on air.
He likes to issue "snow challenges" that you join in, video or photograph and tweet about. This storm's challenge was "how do you break your cabin fever?".
So, a dad and his 9-year old daughter went outside in their bathing suits and belly flopped into the snow like they were diving into a pool.

We have a little shih tzu who loves to sit at the French doors and look outside. She can't see anything out there, and I am not sending her out with a ruler, so we do have more than a few inches!

Doesn't Kate have an overhang on her porch? If so, it wouldn't show a "wall" of snow. Let's see a picture of the kids in the yard, or her driveway, then we'll know if she's really snowed in. If I had Twitter, I would tweet a photo of what a wall really looks like!

I heard the governor's briefing and he was really miffed at the PA turnpike situation. The truckers causing that mess should be fined for even attempting the highway to that tunnel. Among those stranded was a busload of students coming home from DC after a game last night and are still there.

http://patch.com/pennsylvania/newtown-pa/hundreds-stranded-pa-turnpike-16-hours

The actual temperature is supposed to be around 15 night, with the wind chill at zero. That's pretty darn chilly!

The governor is now saying that the safety of the residents is primary, and continues to say that they should stay home. He just checked on those stranded on the turnpike and this is an active emergency response situation. Plan X has been executed meaning that the people are being taken care of. It really is a serious situation out there. The blizzard warning here is still in effect until tomorrow morning, so even if the snow stops by midnight, there will be blowing and drifting, which means that when the roads are cleared, they will just blow shut again. They just can't seem to get a handle on this because it's worse than predicted. You know it's bad when there is no mail delivery, because "neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night" or something like that!

I put a beef stew in the slow cooker this morning and the house smells so good. If this snow were determined to descend upon us in historic proportions, I wish it would have been over the holidays. Everything out there looks like a Christmas card. How pretty it would have been with the houses and their multi-colored lights.

KIAT, I remember being in NYC several years ago during a snowstorm. We had to stay longer than anticipated because we couldn't get home. The lights didn't go out on Broadway and with nothing else to do, we decided to go to yet another show. What was fun was that there were huge discounts, and there were no seating assignments; they just said to sit "wherever." That's the only time I can remember that happening.

NJ Gal (79). Do you have a guest room? I can bring the kegs!

I just remember that old video of Jon dropping the kids off at the gate in the van. All the younger kids screaming for Daddy. Mady and Cara coming out to hug him in tears. It was so bad Jon had to tell them to stop. That is how the children felt about him before they were alienated by Kate, and for some of them parental alienation has caused where we are now. It's really exactly as we predicted. Some of the kids would be influenced by Kate and her alienation, some wouldn't.

What should Jon have done?

I am listening to the local news and at last report there are 500 vehicles stuck in that turnpike mess. No wonder the governor isn't happy with the truckers who initially started that whole thing. They are hoping that those stuck won't have to spend another night out there, but at this point they aren't sure.

There is a musician guy sitting in the snow on the turnpike playing Let It Snow on the trumpet. Really funny and he's pretty good.

Someone said that she hopes the truckers who caused this mess have to pee and poop in the snow, in full view of everyone.

Oh, yes! Please tell us! We really need this info to assure that we have plans in place so we know what to do with our kids when it snows! We want to know everything, right down to what toppings you put on your homemade pizza and if you freeze the left-overs. Silly sheep.

I was thinking about this today. In the past, when there were forecasts for up to 10 inches and grocery stores were emptied, we often got just a dusting. We all sat back and laughed. Many no longer trusted forecasts. This time nobody is laughing, because not only did they nail it, it exceeded all expectations. The problem now is that when all of this is cleared, they don't know where to go with it.

Washington and Baltimore were supposed to get the brunt of the storm. That didn't happen. We took a direct hit and got more than they did.

Neither does Kate. You call Mr. Snow Plow Man and have him come and get you out of there. They also do sidewalks, and more often than not your landscapers do this in the winter. You pick up the phone, make the call, or when you sign the maintenance contract at the beginning of the season. You won't even have to call them. They just show up and get the job done.

For Milo, everything revolves around Kate. Everything. She is a piece of work. I really don't think that she can help herself and when you think about it, it's sad. Of course, it could be nothing more than baiting the haters. It's hard to tell with her.

The video showed very high waves/water encroaching into the lower level of very nice homes (I think in Delaware). I'll give you a little known hint about the death statistics for storms the government releases, having been through more blizzards that I could ever count. They count car accidents. Almost all storm deaths are car accidents. It's rare someone died because they walked outside and froze to death. They use these inflated numbers pulled from car accidents for good I guess, because it scares people into following orders. But on any given day in the tri-state area, 14 people are going to die in car accidents, snow or no snow.

Car accidents by the way, happen every day, even in sunny weather. If people simply listened to authorities and stayed off the roads, they have no chance of dying in a car accident this weekend.

Most snowstorm deaths are car accidents. But we had one in Montgomery County of an older man who was shoveling snow. I personally cannot do my own snow shoveling. Too many physical problems. I just don't believe Kate was out there with her long driveway and a small snowblower. I'm sure someone is paid to do it. It would take her hours. But I agree I don't have a lot of sympathy. You want a big house and property? Be prepared to take care of it.

Thanks! Yes, I have used that. Sometimes it's current, and sometimes it's not. A road closing was reported in early January. The road has been opened for weeks, but the site has it "updated" on January 5 still reporting it closed. Seems they need some closer monitoring on some of it!

We have some really excellent local live traffic incidents on a site here that is constantly updated by the minute, as well as great traffic cams. I'm nosy. I use them on a regular basis! In fact, I just took a look at the web cams and I have never seen the interstates totally free of traffic. It looks like a ghost town, so I guess most people really are listening to the non-essential traffic warnings.

We had 2 people die from shoveling today in my area. Another died in Maryland, most likely from shoveling. Plus other non-auto related on Friday and early Saturday in other states. People with heart conditions should not be shoveling, and should restrict their time in the cold. However, many don't realize this. 279 people died from reckless driving in snowstorms last season in PA. It wasn't hidden, it has been widely talked about. AAA was very annoyed the past two days, because people didn't listen to the warning to stay home. Reckless driving, and the I'm invincible feeling, are absolutely the #1 cause of deaths in a snow storms. However, extension cords, kerosene heaters, gas stoves are causes for fires in the winter, which cause many deaths. God Bless my neighbor who was taking to the hospital tonight by ambulance. They had to park at the top of the road and walk down to her house to get her. Brings back memories of when my mom was sick.

I hope that the people stranded on the PA turnpike get home soon. Joy in VA, I know that you are a college basketball fan -- sorry if this has been said already -- but the Duquesne basketball team has been stranded on the turnpike since Friday night. All of our local basketball games have been postponed until tomorrow. I can't wait to watch Temple vs SMU (who were also stuck in the snow).

Uninteresting things like the TEN-THOUSAND people who died last year in drunk driving car accidents don't get a "breaking news" title, three day build up and ensuing mass hysteria. We want to hear about how a few scant people people slid off the road and died because they were being stupid and didn't stay home when the government repeatedly told them to, and it panics folks of course who have no chance of that happening to because they aren't stupid and follow instructions. News takes advantage of this. They report what makes their ratings go up and they report it in a way that will make it go up, which usually means as doomsday as possible.

I'm catching up with Kate's tweets. I can relate to her tweet abot Shoka. Our dog is outside most of the day. Today she had limited access to her isual path around the yard. She looked up at my husband, and woth her eyes asked for him to shovel a path so she could meet our neighbors' dog at the fence. She played outside with our son. She would come in and and then whine to go out, but didn't want to go out ...ha ha.

She would lay there just looking out the door. She's like a little kid B-)

I'm sorry to hear that. I had a friend who also lost her life in a snow-related death. It was a freak accident. She was knocked unconscious by ice that broke loose from her roof and died a few days later. She had been lying outside in the snow for a few hours before anyone found her. We always check the ice on our roof and knock down the icicles.

Nearly all of our local churches have cancelled services tomorrow. It will really be strange not venturing out in the morning.

We have snow overhanging our roof and 3-ft. icicles hanging. Never saw that before. The wind really did a job.

Heaven forbid Deanna find a man or gets a life of her own. It won't be pretty when she want's to extricate herself from Kate's web. Not if Kate still needs her for her own agenda.

Let me say this about those notes. Yes, I agree they could have been written years ago, BUT the FACT that notes were written at all is disturbing (including their content). Does this mean Kate is inaccessible to her children when she is upset (or passed out drunk?). Why would a child promise in a note to not HATE their mother? Instead of loving notes, these are apologies and placating an angry mother. The notes are actually a great insight into that household and I thank the poster who took the time to decipher them.

Very much so. Just think about when Kate trotted the twins out to bash Jon. On The View, Mady spoke of the divorce being no biggie for her, but much, much harder on Kate.
WTF??
Kate sat there nodding, soaking up the pity. Think about it. Kate was happy that Mady, her own daughter, drew attention to how hard it was on HER.
That bitch should have said, "no Mady, it was hard on you and your siblings".
I don't think Mady believes she's allowed to grieve and be sad. Thus, the anger. Anger is energizing. It's like Mady hasn't been afforded permission to break down. She can't afford to.
Think about it...

Moreover, Kate has believe parenting a child is a two-way street since her kids were toddlers. What parent expects a child to apologize every time they do something wrong? After they get spanked?

FlimsyFlamsy said...

TLC stinks (#155), like so many things, those notes become meaningful when put together with other pieces of the puzzle. We know TFW had toddlers rubbing her back and feet when she wasn't feeling well. We've heard TFW ask her sons if they'd take care of her when she was old. She's tweeted about the twins taking over when she was sick in bed. So added to those incidents of parentification, to me, those notes say a lot about the skewed dynamics in that household.

Good luck to all you folks in the storm areas.

The Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) mother may rage when angry, but many times she may use silent treatments. The BPD mother uses the silent treatment to torture the child(ren) that she professes to love. The silent treatment is a very narcissistic example of the lack of emotional regulation of the BPD. The silent treatment is control, and a safe means for them to avoid any 'uncomfortable' topics, issues in the relationship, or issues within herself; therefore, the silence is an abdication of personal responsibility.

I was completely ignored and isolated as I wasn't allowed to use the phone. I tried to appeal to my step-father's common sense, but in the midst of telling my point-of-view, my mother arrived in the basement and told him not to speak to me. She called me a bitch, and they both left. So, not only did I not have her speaking to me, but she prohibited my step-father from speaking to me as well as my ability to talk on the phone to others.

We have enough work with his parents and our dogs.

Maybe not all of those people were stupid and out for a joy ride, but some could have been emergency personnel, such as doctors and nurses trying to get to their jobs, or state employees just trying to get to work to make the roads safe. I just read about police officer who slid off the road trying to get to an ambulance that got stuck en route to an emergency. Reports say his injuries are life-threatening. He was just doing his job.

I think that quite a few people, especially those in the thick of it, do want to hear about the aftermath of a storm of this magnitude because they are interested in knowing how devastating such a storm was and how successful emergency personnel were in preventing fatal accidents. So far, the reports indicate that there were 22 deaths in this storm; 13 from car accidents, three from hypothermia and six from shoveling. I think that given the severity of this storm that we're lucky the loss of lives has been so low. It's good to know that so many people actually did heed the warnings and stay off the road or there would have been far more accidents.

If, big if, but if Josh and Anna had sex, and they got pregnant, the two of them are completely insincere about this whole "repentance and rehab" thing.

I wonder if Gladys is reading about herself there, angrier than a wet hen when she reads, "Kate’s biggest Twitter fan is someone that goes by the screen name “Fired Up For Kate”…this person claims to be a woman and often says very strange, personal things to Kate. One day she was posting that she was on her way to Kate’s house. Her tweets were very creepy. (It was that day that someone Tweeted “Remember Selena” in reference to a singer who was murdered by her #1 fan.) The picture depicts a cartoon character with a necklace bearing the letters F.U.F.K…representing Fired Up For Kate– the crazy fan. The character has Kate impaled on a stick for “Something on a Stick Day.” It was never intended to be a threat toward Kate. It was a warning that she ought to be more careful about her crazy fans."

I remember when that whole thing was going on. Gladys was frantic that she wouldn't get the rescue dog on Kate's birthday. Nobody was sure where she was going, but unless I'm wrong (KIAT?) she never stated that she was on her way to Kate's house. It may have been implied, and nobody really knew where she was going, and even Kate was a bit concerned, but I don't think that Gladys came out and said she was headed for Wernersville.
