When Kate plus 8 ended, TFW said that TLC would likely do a couple of updates. I suspect that would include this " they are 10" then when they are 16, and then perhaps as heading off to college or something like that.

&&&

Being 10 and 13 is a whole different ball game for these kids and their classmates. I think they are going to be absolutely shocked at how differently they feel than three years ago. Many are likely to feel mortified when they finally see themselves on T.V. Knowing TLC they'll make it cutesy and fun, and show lots of old baby clips, which is embarrassing to most kids. Most kids aren't wired to be on T.V. like this. And most kids are not emotionally equipped to deal with their peers' reactions. Their peers might make fun of them, which would be hurtful, or even if their peers could care less, that might be bad too because it might leave the Gosselin kids confused. Well so am I a star or not, because no one seems to care.

I just think they have no idea what they're getting into and good luck after this trying to get them all to cooperate with any future specials. This is really their last hooray before they're old enough to get a clue just like Mady and Cara got a clue on Today.

It's also bizarre to have 2 parents, albeit divorced, to have such diametrically opposing views AND claims about the children's wants and desires.
Jon says some of the kids unequivocally do not want to film.
Kate says they ALL shriek with joy when the camera crew comes back, and they wail X 8 when the show stopped.

Can you imagine how schizo this feels for the kids?

Extremely confusing and would make any child anxious.

It's terrible for a child to feel like the decisions Mom makes Dad really hates. That puts them in a terribly awkward position with him, and she's a POS for putting them in that position.

Bringing this over from previous thread --

I'm not saying he owes us any explanation, and in fact, I can't stand when Kate's little piss ants claim that Jon feeds Admin info and lies to spin his story.

Tucker's! This made me smile (little piss ants). I don't recall ever hearing them called that before, but it's so perfect for them. Thanks for the laugh.

Oh and TLC is a POS for taking sides in this thing. I actually was starting to respect them for not touching this mess in so long. I really thought that they finally respected that this is Kate and Jon's feud and that it was none of their business to get involved until it was settled. Well I'm sorry I was so fooled.

I understand that networks are all about the money but not usually to this extent. Even Bravo respects Simon when he indicated he took issue with the kids filming and would need to take Tamara to court. Bravo said okay fine do what you need to do and let us know the outcome and we'll go from there. They weren't going to take sides. They weren't gonna touch it. That is Simon and Tamara's thing to hash out. You don't f-ing take sides in a dispute among PARENTS over their CHILDREN. Bravo's stance proves that there are networks who behave appropriately when parents on their payroll have a dispute over children on their payroll.

Where do they get off? A network is not a third parent and have no right, whatsoever, to intervene. They should really be ashamed of themselves. Shame, shame, shame on them.

I don't think TFW or TLC will come out of further filming without blowback.
Yes, I wish I knew that Jon did everything he could to stop filming, if he even knew, but at least he's on the record and his wishes are clear.

So... someone's lying and that fact ain't going to be swiffered away.

Didn't Charlie Sheen's wishes to not film his daughters on Denise Richard's show go denied?
How's that working out for Denise now?
See, if Jon was a filthy-rich bag of cocaine-fueled crazy, Kate wouldn't get away with this shit!

Wonder where they'll film. I'm sure the kids equate filming with elaborate trips and elaborate birthday parties. If that doesn't happen, the kids will be disappointed. If it does happen, GMAB

TLC got their pound of flesh off of the Gosselin kids.
This can't come off as anything more than pure, unadulterated GREED.
Hey, folks, let's check in on the Gosselins, shall we?
When last we saw them, Jon and Kate were tossing each other death stares and their marriage was falling apart in front of their children and 10 million viewers.
Have we mentioned how PROUD we are of that statistic?
Let's pull back that privacy curtain and peek in again, mmK?

Shaq also took the mother of his children to court to stop her from filming the kids. The network, VH1, said unless you can come to some agreement in court the show is off. That is the correct, moral, and ethical way to handle such things. So we have Bravo and VH1 both showing that they will respect parents' rights to resolve disputes without them taking sides:

"Daily Mail reports that Shaunie filed an emergency order on Thursday (Dec. 19), asking for immediate permission to feature her children on the show, because filming is slated to begin in the first week of January and she needs to meet production deadlines. The judge, however, sided with Shaq, who vehemently opposed the request. Apparently, a hearing for Shaunie's request is scheduled for late next month, but she also claims that the show will be scrapped if she cannot get approval to start filming at the beginning of the year."

Agree local, whether it's a trip or not is crucial. If it's a trip they might enjoy it. If it's just filming them at home they might feel embarrassed, might rather be with friends or at school or sports, might find it very disruptive, boring, a drag. However I doubt we'd ever hear about it if they were unhappy except from Jon, who is of course a deadbeat and a liar.

Or it might just give them big heads and a sense of self-importance that will put-off their peers.

Sometimes I think Jon and Kate manufactured all this drama to keep the money train going for years and years and years. Where would either of them be if the original show just played out in a boring everyday life kind of way? Most viewers got tired real quick of watching these little rich kids go on trips and Mom and Dad constantly bickering. But the divorce? It was a masterpiece!! They have rode that gravy train for how many years now?

I know.....Tell me I'm crazy.....lol

Last time I checked, I have real life relatives who are school age and very interesting, they do lots of activities. Boy Scouts, dance class and recitals, swim team, basketball, etc. plus there are some actual adorable cute add can be toddlers and babies in the extended family. Much more interesting than children who are not related to us. I will be making a point to not watch any show with TFMJG. Won't be hard to do, nothing on TLC interests me.
What I really would like to see is a frank honest interview with some of the crew members from the years of filming. Tell us what TFMJG us really like, boys and girls!

What is sad is that in many respects, I think the kids are doing the best they can.
Think about this- 8 kids, parents divorce when they're quite young, 2 are kicked out of school for behavior that was so bad, they had to be separated into the next school year, both twins do not see their father, one boy does not see his father.
If that isn't a complete failure and breakdown of family dynamics, I don't know what is.
I'd be ashamed as a parent.
---------------
Would LOVE to hear Kate's take on this, although she previously said she wanted the kids to spend time with Jon. Apparently, not so much. Collin clearly needs to see his dad unless there is some serious issue, with Jon's girlfriend or otherwise. They do live in the same house now, right? Am guessing M & C don't like going to Jon's house with the six siblings and 3 of his girlfriends kids. Really don't know but seem they as teenagers want their privacy, although they could see Jon without all 11 kids if arrangements were made. Completely don't get Colin left out of visiting dad unless he is the "Great Chicken Feeder." Really - Could Kate and the two twins not do this a couple of times a months for Colin. Very disturbing that he does not see his father, if this is true.
+++++++++++
I'm just a casual reader here and near never comment but who said Collin doesn't see his daddy anymore? Becuz if its true I am sadly not surprised its him being the kid who made that choice. He always was the one I worried about and had to saddest interactions with both of his parents. I can't forget him begging for his mama to help him when he was in agony at that bed store. Or his face when he was yelled at by his daddy for collecting sticks. Lots of times kids need some calm quiet time and a house filled with 11 others can be horrible. Or he might feel sharing the small amount of time he's offered with daddy with others who aren't even daddy's kids makes him mad.

I, among the other lovely posters here, will not be watching. The only good thing that will come out of this special is the recap by Admin. Woot! Woot! Hopefully, this show will be like the RV episode with very little editing on TLC's part. I agree with Admin. that if the bulk of this special shows old clips, it's going to cost them very little money. The ball's in TLC's court, not TCFW. Maybe TLC will surprise everyone (and TCFW) with a little blurb from Jon at the end.

I must have been watching a different Wife Swap. The boys looked demoralized, barely speaking or responding, and the children in general seemed anxious and unhappy. I just finished watching The Little Couple. What a switch from the regular bullshit you see on TLC. There's no made up drama. Just a married couple who love one another, willing to take on a reality show to show small minded people and looky loos " We are well educated, well rounded people, just living our lives but not as tall as most". Hope that didn't offend anyone.
This couple didn't need TLC for the money...they are not chasing after fame. Neither one of them has given up their job since they got the show. I don't believe either one of them will be heartbroken when the show ends. Could you imagine Jen or Bill crying to the camera saying Wil and Zoey are just freaking out and can't stop crying cause the cameras went away? Could you imagine Jen forcing Zoey to go on a talk show begging to get a new show and saying Life is Great? I don't think TLC won with this show...I believe Jen and Bill won.

As for TFW...enough already...nothing has changed or will change. TFW wants fame and fortune and does not care who or what she has to sell to get it.
The Roloffs? You could tell from the start that Matt and Amy were anything but close and united. It's just too bad they are willing to play out their separation on camera.
Duggars? They will keep doing what they have done from the start. They didn't need the show ...they didn't have more kids b/c of the show ( that was their beliefs from the day they said I do). In all the years of filming...they look the same...Momma duggar isn't off getting her hair and nails done. They won't go under when the show stops either.
Only TFW will go under when everything comes to an end.She is a nasty person...a child and an animal abuser. Please stop watching this shit. When there is no one watching...this insanity might come to an end.

I won't be watching either. However, an interesting bit of info. Turns out Baron von Trapp was not the martinet as portrayed in the movie, but rather the easy-going, gentle parent. It was Maria who was the martinet and I think she might have had narcissistic tendencies as well. None of the children seemed to have anything truly affectionate to say about her, but clearly had great love for their father. So I find it interesting that Kate supposedly loves that movie.

I love our two, although sometimes the female can be quite a demanding diva! There was absolutely nothing on tonight and I did check out the Little Couple since it's been brought up so much here. I havent seen but an episode or two and I think I may have been missing out. I was just moved by Jenn and Bill's love for each other. She had to go home early because she wasn't feeling well and Bill had his flight tracking app open on his phone all night watching her flight. He loves her so much and they both seem so devoted to both each other and their kids. And those kids are cute as a button. I heard nothing but support and positivity, neither of them speaking to each other or the children in any way that was disrespectful.

Millicent said...

I am not surprised that TLC will try to milk additional advertising dollars out of the Gosselin children - after all, that's their one and only goal in life. Ethics or morality have nothing to do with it. And the reason Shaq can stop filming of his kids is he has money and power. Jon has neither. So one father stops filming while the other gets run over by TLC and his ex time and again.

The best thing that has happened for those children is they are not talented in any particular way. They are average-looking, and due to their mother's domineering ways, no longer have the happy outgoing nature of their younger years. I don't think any current clips will produce the same level of "awws!' and interest that six cute toddlers did. And that's the silver lining.

There's nothing we can do to stop TLC and WOS from pimping these kids out once again - but hope that the ratings are so poor, TLC will decide not to bother for another "what are they doing now?" special again.

I have so much respect for how gracious Jen and Bill were to everyone, when it would have been easy not to be.

They didn't refer to anyone as Ms. Nurse, Mr. Helper Man, etc. They were polite and gracious to everyone. I heard "thank you" a lot.

It was so touching the way he layed down next to her in the hospital bed. So much respect for each other, and the people around them.

What a difference from watching J+K, Kate+8, CWS, and CT.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think even the fans are going to be surprised at how boring and average these kids are going to be (as they should be, this is a good thing) at this age. They will be almost 10 and 13, the cute toddler things they used to say and do are a thing of the past. They're in the bratty kid phase that most kids go through where they can be annoying smart alecks. They're finding their voice, which is part of growing up and normal, and it's only natural that in finding that voice it can wear on adults. It's all fun and games when it's your child but you may be singing a different tune when it's somebody else's.

I'm guessing it will be a flop. It's not wishful thinking, I just think the spark is completely gone. I think the kids are at a terrible age to make a go at T.V. all over again. Even with heavy editing it's going to be hard to hide that they are at "that age." Like what we saw on Katie Couric. Now, the sheeple will never admit it if they tune out, but the proof will be in the numbers. Like that moment McCauley Caulkin's voice became deep. The magic was gone. Not his fault, it just was something special that came and went and it was nice while it lasted but that's the business for you.

Millicent said...

I am pretty much dead set against watching reality tv shows that feature minor children, but I will agree that The Little Couple do seem like nice people who are genuine and have stayed genuine. Will is such a happy little boy and yes, still in that cute stage. The little girl is darling too, but still warming up to Bill. I probably won't watch on a regular basis, but I do with the whole family nothing but the best and hope that being on TV does not cause them any problems in the future.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I'm even terribly impressed with this couple's parenting. They have a real connection to their children, they speak to them with dignity and respect, no baby talk or other nonsense, and they are so focused on their needs and their best interest. I wish they didn't film them, and at least they did turn the cameras off for both of them when they first got home, but in all other respects they have been very attentive.

For example, I really liked Bill's handling of the little boy meeting the elephant. The boy was scared so he just gently guided him back, didn't freak out, and showed him the situation was calm and okay and that if he wanted to approach or not approach, it was okay. A short time later the boy warmed right up and started feeding the elephant banana after banana and having the time of his life, it was so cute.

Instead of ordering, controlling, dictating how the situation would go, Bill gave him space to warm up and figure it out and he thrived. And if he didn't warm up that was okay with Bill too. It's a little slice of life but it speaks to fantastic parenting techniques and patience. I was very impressed.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

From my rather limited observations of Bill and Jenn, I think they are one of those few families that can weather reality T.V. just fine.

For one, I think they are both highly intelligent, her especially. All due respect to Jon and Kate but neither of them strike me as rocket scientists and sometimes when you're not very sharp it becomes much easier for things like TLC or people like Steve to take advantage of you. It is much easier for these types to be just willing to sign whatever or do whatever as long as they see that pot o' gold. Bill and Jenn are not the type to just sign on the dotted line no questions asked just because it looks like a lot of money to us.

For another, they are independently financially stable. They never have had to depend on their reality show like Jon and Kate did and really still do living off investments. When you are independently wealthy there is no incentive to keep going with T.V. even if it becomes bad for the family.

They also have a healthy sense that there are times when the cameras should not be around the children, and that includes when they first come home and they're bonding. This shows they respect the negatives and aren't in denial about them like Kate is.

Finally they have a very strong network of family, friends and coworkers that they listen to and respect. This includes her parents and some friends who traveled with them. I find Kate to be very isolated with most of her only friends in the business, usually a bad idea. Bill and Jenn's family and friends surely helps keep them grounded and focused and not swept up in being reality stars.

We don't need laws for people like Bill and Jenn. The problem is we need laws for people like the Gosselins. It's just nice people like Bill and Jenn will get lumped in with everyone else because that's how it goes.

I went over to TLC to read people's comments about doing the tfw show, but did not find any place for anyone to comment. Do they usually have a comment section? I have never been over there before, am just curious.
Like I already said here, that once Eileen left TLC, tfw would have likely attacked the newbie, reminding her/him about the 'special updates' she was told TLC would do after the show was finished with. Like sh** stuck to a shoe, that is how tfw operates.

I wonder if the ambiguous air date has something to do with the rumors about CA.

Say, for egregious example, it turns out to be true that TFW's one of the contestants. Most certainly, TLC would take that into consideration & time their own program for maximum viewership.

Which begs the question: Is it better (from a TLC accountant producer's perspective) to run the special before or after she's fired?

It's sad, but you know already that they'd approach their schedule from this angle. The kids aren't the real draw, in my opinion. They're at that awkward stage of childhood development, and they don't appear to be involved in many outside activities. So who will they use to draw eyes to the screen? The instrument of destruction they call 'mommy'.

So Kate earns another paycheck from TLC. I am surprised. But then, she's been a good little soldier for them. I knew something was up with the reruns and the article that got pulled. My guess is that the deal was "People" was to get the exclusive and someone spilled the beans to that reporter. TLC pulled their weight and got the story retracted hoping few read it. Ha, ha we did. "People" will go full throttle with promoting the upcoming special.

The best outcome: as mentioned above, it will be painfully clear to those fans suck in a time warp that the kids are no longer adorable toddlers and they will realize the kids are nothing special. Oh, Kate will have those hands flapping and lying through blinding white teeth, but no amount of editing will make those kids appear happy or extraordinary. I have to believe this airing will bite Kate in the butt. Maybe Karma did not take a holiday.

So I guess I do not understand how she gets away with this if the father of your children is in a court battle with you over custody.

VH-1 was willing to listen to and take into account parental concerns. TLC doesn't care and will ride roughshod over anything that they see as cutting into their profit margin. The lives and psyches of 8 little souls don't matter to them as much as their bottom line. The same applies to a lesser degree with the other father who sued to keep his kids off their mother's reality show. I don't even know the names of the people involved or anything about their circumstances, but from what I've read about the situation here, it sounds like the network gave serious consideration to the wishes of the father.

@Kateplusmy8 IS THIS REAL IM SCREAMING pic.twitter.com/YmdQbZUdBB

Good grief, get a grip. Most of these screaming tweeters are kids themselves. They have no understanding of child development. They think that there is nothing wrong with putting these kids on television because the children are used to being there; it's fine, they like filming, and fans are entitled to see how the kids have grown. I understand this. These teens and very young fans are very naive in this respect.

It's the adults that I don't understand...how these sheeple can be so logic-deprived that there is no critical thinking involved. They can't analyze the situation, do research into the long-term effect this may have on these children; totally ignore the fact that Kate drags these kids out in her quest to stay relevant, and what have you. This lack of any reasoning ability is frightening. The psychology of the fan situation is interesting, but at the same times raises so many concerns.

I understand that Milo and some of the dumber sheep are so up to their necks in their love of Kate that they are far beyond reasoning. But what about other adult fans? Is their level of intellect so low that their love of Kate and the kids far surpasses their ability to look at the whole situation? It seems that they see what they want to see, totally blinded (or ignorant) of what has gone on in the past years with someone who will stop at nothing, even if it means sacrificing the privacy of her children, to stay in the media.

I just hope that these fans are in the minority, and that most people really do get it. If not, then heaven help us -- there is so much dumbing down going on out there in the world. The Gosselins are real kids, with real feelings, real emotions, who should be allowed to live a real childhood. Kate's too far gone in her desire for fame, but there still may be a chance for the kids to emerge from this relatively unscathed.

I think the Hayes children have a good chance of entering adulthood unscathed. Same for the McCaughey's.
The Gosselins are indeed worrisome.
2/8 children ejected from KINDERGARTEN for a school year.
3/8, that's almonst HALF, do not see Jon.
1/8 has been ejected from school for behavioral issues AND does not see his father.

Very disappointed to learn that Jon has failed (if he even tried?) to keep Kate from continuing to exploit his kids on TV. And back on TLC of all places! I've never had any issue with Kate trying to keep her mug on TV without the kids, but that hasn't worked overly well for her, has it? So back to the tried and true - parade out the kids and let them deal with whatever fallout or embarrassment follows at school, for example. So where is Jon in all of this? Has he been to court? Was he denied his right to input with respect to his children's exposure to the public? Or did he sign off on that right long ago and simply stated that his kids were never going to be on TV again for drama's sake? We will never know. Interesting that Charlie Sheen's successful block of his ex-wife is mentioned. In spite of all, he has been very generous in helping those in need. Maybe @charliesheen could help Jon put an end to his ex-wife's continuing exploitation of his kids? This mess just gets worse and worse, doesn't it.

Sideline Observer said...

It's pretty much a given that the special will be a whitewash that offers up nothing in terms of updates. Other than what TLC filmed recently, there's no footage of the kids doing much else other than looking traumatized. "Home" photos are basically grainy cellphone snaps that imply stuff that probably didn't happen (don't remember seeing any kids showing off their Lego creations).

However, I will reserve a 1% chance that TLC sees this special as an opportunity to bury TFW once and for all. TLC goes cinema verite on her and shows that nothing has really happened since the show went off the air. It's as if somebody hit a big pause button on their lives, and TFW is waiting for the pause button to be released, but failed to notice that somebody hit the stop button instead and ejected the tape.

Other than whatever TFW commissioned and/or claimed, there's no documentary evidence showing the kids have grown [in ways other than physically]. TFW's existence over the past few years has consisted of hopping from one epic fail to another. Unless one totally ignores or whitewashes it, her post-show career has been one of either failure or extremely mediocre [as in, "Seriously?!"] successes.

Even though that question will probably never be addressed, how does a "struggling" mother, post-show, not gain and hold a job with a non-trivial salary and spend nearly all her time trying to get back on TV? Very few people can make a steady living off of TV, and she's not one of them. She's the only one who believes she's a hot property. There are many other contradictions about TFW's post-show life to illuminate, but TLC's not interested in that sort of thing.

I watch The Little Couple now and then and was curious to see their adopted children. Both work apart from the show, and yet spend as much time as possible as a family and enriching the kids' lives. They seem so compassionate, loving and respectful of the kids. I don't really care for Bill, although I see he is a good husband and dad. Jen is a great doctor, wife and parent, daughter, friend etc, a lovely lady.
They do treat their nanny whom they freely admit is present- and other people like workers in their home or restaurant personnel with respect.Although already wealthy, I think their goal in doing the show was to raise awareness for little people and how they can be successful and should be accepted , as they are.

Now I do believe it will be announced she's on CA. Freakin' unbelievable. Steve has been sticking around her for a rea$on.

Boy. oh boy. Jon was wrong when he said she would never be back on TV with a show. Which brings me to my disappointment with Jon. I respectfully disagree. I think the vast, vast majority of judges would permit a one hour special to be filmed.

This is not a series, it's not some huge commitment for the kids, they haven't filmed for TLC in years and it can be accomplished in a very quick and non-invasive manner. Most judges would allow it. A SERIES would be a tougher sell.

I agree. Simon's wishes were also respected and Simon isn't some mega basketball star, or any more wealthy than Tamara or anyone else they have on the show.

There actually are people in the business running networks who have morals, values, ethics and respect for their subjects. Not every single person making these decisions puts money as the one and only consideration. They're just not at TLC.

That's the true narcissist. She could sit there for an hour, doing nothing, with the cameras rolling and not see anything wrong with it. She would believe that people adored her and found it fascinating. She is incapable of being embarrassed. The kids are only a reflection of her and she doesn't see that their lives are ordinary and not interesting. She doesn't see her own limitations.

I knew a guy who had no more than a high-school education. Through political favours he was allowed to apply for an appointed position with the Immigration Board for the Gov't of Canada. This position paid a 6 figure salary. Most of these positions are filled with lawyers and highly educated business executives. He had no computer skills at all, he failed the test given to all applicants and hadn't held a job for more than 25 years, yet he was stunned that he wasn't given a position on the board. He felt they had made a terrible mistake.

This is why K will never give up. She's not capable of seeing reality.

Admin,

Don't understand at all how you think filming Zoey terrified in India is even remotely ok. I watch The Little Couple, just as I watched JK8. Does it entertain me. Yes. Is it right? No. I felt so bad for Zoey. She was completely traumatized by the whole adoption. I get that part is necessary to get the kid into a good home. But to have it filmed for our entertainment was TLC's exploitation at their finest. Jen and Bill Arnold had complete control over that. Shame on them. Everyone says how wealthy they were before TLC. I think they were making a decent living. But they lived in an apartment for several years, before TLC came in and built their dream house. Just like the deal that Kate was going for that is detailed in Robert's not a book, 2 seasons were nothing more than product placements for the finest cabinetry, hardware, lighting fixtures, elevator, tile, pool, the list goes on and on. TLC built their home. I would not be surprised if TLC funded the adoptions and the finest hotels for them to stay in. They may be "nice"and have family and friends but they are still making $$$$ of their children now and will no doubt ride that train as long as possible. We will see Will toddling off to kindergarten and a high priced private school in Houston. We will see Zoey go through painful surgical procedure, waking up from anesthesia, just like Will. I am waiting for potty training.

There is no difference and YOU are a sheep for thinking there is.

Jen is a little rich girl with shopping compulsion. And Bill just bragged about his lease on his beamer being up.

Oh I bet they love the money and I bet they negotiate very shrewdly for it.

Maybe TLC will surprise everyone (and TCFW) with a little blurb from Jon at the end.

I'd love to see it at the beginning - a black screen with a narrator saying something like the filming of this special was done over the objections of their father, Jon who believes his children's lives should be private. That is the truth about the family - not an edited, scripted story that Kate wants to tell. Wishful thinking, I know.

I agree. I felt badly for Zoey but at least I think they did it with the least stress possible, and they left the nanny and Will at the hotel so as not to overwhelm Zoey. I think she would have problems anyhow. But I do agree, I would be happier seeing the kids in a few shots, maybe a photo or not at all, I don't agree with filming any children. But I was happy to see these two in a good home. I said I do not care for Bill; I think he is a little pompous and self-absorbed. But at least he and Jen have the money to spend and are not taking the kids' earnings. I see true love in their relationship and the growing bonds with the children. Sure they profit from the show but they do have a goal for LP, I think. I don't see them changing- they are the same people as before, love 'em or not..Best of the worst reality?

Well so am I a star or not, because no one seems to care.

And

Or it might just give them big heads and a sense of self-importance that will put-off their peers.

Precisely why minors should not be doing reality tv.

I think the Gosselin kids have a tightrope to walk with this new special as far as their status with their peers is concerned. If they don't demonstrate new entitled, self important behavior and are self deprecating about the renewed exposure I think they'll be fine but they should never be put in situations like that. This is where a good protective parent would see what was wrong with putting their kids on reality tv. But not TFW and not the sheeple.

I agree Admin. Bill and Jenn will be perfectly fine when their show ends. They're in no way dependent on it - neither emotionally or financially. The scene with Will and the elephant was impressive and in stark contrast to TFW and the G8 - Bill wanted Will to experience the elephant where TFW wanted similar experiences for herself. The Kleins 'get' parenting - TFW doesn't and never will.

I think that's why I never could get into the Little Couple show because I found the two of them ehhh kind of annoying, not the kind of people I'd hang out with. That does not mean I was rather touched by their love for both each other and their kids in the episode I happened to see last night.

Their adoption was rough at first but the baby adjusted quickly. Maybe it will inspire those adopting who are dealing with a child's anxiety and difficult transition and thinking we made the wrong decision here, to see it through, to have faith it won't last forever. I think the baby's issues had far more to do with going from an orphanage in a poor area to strangers, though a loving and attentive family and wealthy lifestyle. I really don't think they had anything to do with the small camera crew filming some of it.

As opposed to Kate and Jon who signed on the dotted line, thrilled to have money to support their children. Jen and Bill seems the opposite of Kate and Jon...intelligent, hard working, polite, caring, love each other a alot, love their children, respect others, help others, etc.etc.etc. And, I suspect, when it comes time to re-sign with TLC Jen and Bill will assess how the cameras are affecting their children's development carefully before signing.

If a father believes his children's well being is at stake, the mother needs psychiatric testing, and he signed an agreement relinquishing some rights due to hardship or inadequate legal representation, I believe a judge should issue some type of restraining order against Kate from allowing the filming until the custody dispute is settled.

Sara, I agree with you on many points about Bill and Jenn and especially about not filming their children, but I think many objections to the show and comparisons to J+K are misplaced. Even before they were married Bill drove expensive cars (expensive is relative. bmw is not always more expensive than other makes) and so did Jenn, TLC didn't seem to effect their vehicle choices. While their bank accounts are larger because of TLC, I don't think that any of their living conditions have been altered solely because of the show the way they were for the Gosselins. As for the adoptions -- I in no way think that TLC influenced their decisions at all. The adoptions would have taken place regardless of TLC's cameras. Were the hotels thanked at the end of the adoption episodes (I didn't pay attention to it), idk, but if no thanks, then they weren't comp'd. They lived in a nice apartment (as I'd expect those relocating to a new state to do) prior to considering building. I think they'd have built a new home whether TLC was around or not. Their home building was prominently featured on the show but I didn't see the things you did as "product placements". The exclusive private builder custom made almost everything in the home except for the pool, elevator, appliances, and fixtures. I think those things would have been in their new home plans TLC or not. I don't think TLC has become as entangled in their lives the way they were with the Gosselins. No, I'm not a sheeple.

I think I might disagree with this one. Like Kate said, there will never be enough money. Maybe Bill and Jen are like Kate. I believe for some independently wealthy people, more is better, especially when appearing on TV like Kate does. She does not have to read a difficult script and memorize lines, she just has to be herself with hair and make up. There really is no effort she needs to put forth, no real 'work' involved. And we all know that is why she loves TV so much. Easy, easy money for doing virtually no 'work' as we know it. Kate's decisions will come back to haunt her. Maybe not now or next year but it will happen. No doubt about it.

Bill wanted Will to experience the elephant where TFW wanted similar experiences for herself.

Exactly.

Yes, I think that is entirely possible. Since TLC doesn't care about producing a quality, documentary style series, then the massive response to her interviews with the twins probably helped convince them that she can still drum up controversy, which, for TLC equals $$$$.

And, I think to TLC, Jon's inflammatory remarks just added fuel to the fire.

I also disagree with those who say that all of the kids are average. Even though she was out of her element and clearly in a moral dilemma, she managed to get off some real zingers to her mother. In a more relaxed environment, that could be enough to carry the show.

I hope that I am wrong.

Kate is NEVER going away. TLC will continue to do specials even when the kids are married with their own kids. I wonder how much money TLC is paying her for this episode. At least it won't be a full hour of new stuff. I wonder what interests the kids will have other than legos, bird and dolls. And I will be very curious to see if Kate has an attitude. One word summarizes it all: SHIT!

P.S. To tell you how upset I am about this, I scrolled to the top of this entry to type my name of Leslie and typed Lego instead!

I too am disappointed in Jon, sure, we can say maybe he tried to stop this new update show and lost, but if that happened why wouldn't he release a statement saying he tried but failed to stop the filming of his kids.

There is a time when silence becomes betrayal and he should have sense enough to realize that this is it. He was on CT babbling about how he would not let his kids film. Smashing up a set, being dramatic and yet CT is over and Kate is, once again, filming with those poor kids, we hear NOTHING from him. As we say around here he's all hat and no cattle.

Ho, ho. I read TLC Facebook comments. TLC is getting hammered. People remember when it was The Learning Channel and someone brought up Lynette Jennings and Christopher Lowell. Ah, those were the good ol' days. Now it's mostly trash with a few bright spots (love "Say Yes to the Dress"). I wish some legitimate TV reviewers really blast TLC for this path they have taken. Just when you think it could get no worse, it does.

I would expect most doctors of Jen's status if they are careful could afford that house especially where cost of living is very low.

I put a lot of weight in the FB comments since it's real people owning their names. I was scrolling through them and low and behold I saw an old high school friend weighing in!! Naturally she didn't like the idea. She's no hater or sheeple she's just someone who saw the news and felt compelled to say something.

Yes, I liked how Bill handled that situation as well. He let Will decide if and when he was ready to feed the elephant. This led to a very happy event that I imagine Will will remember all his life. The day he fed an elephant bananas. Plus, I notice that both parents speak positively about the children, not negatively. They comment on Will's helpfulness and sweet nature, and don't point out the times he might be cranky, tired or upset. I do believe those two children are very fortunate to have found a home with this couple, and will grow up surrounded by love and affection.

I think Ex Nurse has a point. All his comments about TLC "flashbacks" and how damaging reality tv is for kids (TLC IS a reality tv channel) may have just pissed them off enough to want to put her on there to show how "normal" they are. And of course it will be edited that way. If they can get any behavior out of the kids besides the sullen stares we saw on CWS / Today Show or the fighting and hitting we saw on Katie Couric

Most parents would not want their kids on TV again if they are going to act like they did on the show K+8, on KC, CWS, Today etc. There was no editing out the arguing, hitting, spitting, silences etc. Can Kate honestly be proud of that behavior being aired? Why will it be different this time? Will the twins say they hate the tups? Will the boys be zombies? Will Hannah point to Collin and Alexis as the trouble-makers then spit on Leah? Will TFW just shrug and say that's life? How can she say the kids are doing sooo well and love one another in their happy family of 9 when this was shown on numerous occasions so must be 'typical?" She has no sense of reality- ha!- or shame.

I think people who think bad behavior in kids is cute, especialy at ages 10 ad 13, are ridiculous and blind. As for Kate herself, well, say no more!

Are you talking about Mady?
I found her People interview portion and The View to be sassy, and very disrespectful.
Jeez, I can't imagine sassing back my mother in public like that.
I was taught better manners.

I think Mady thinks she's clever, and has been indulged, hence, mouthing back and frankly, talking out her butt (People interview).
She's a young lady, talking about very adult things which she has no real understanding.
It's awful that her mother fosters this, but that's the whole BFF thing going on.

I don't watch Bill and Jenn and their show, so I can only comment that while seemingly more respectable and competent, it remains to be seen the extent to which their precious children's privacy will be sold.

I am aware that they've had a show for many years now, so if they're so darn smart, they should have gotten their message out by now via this vehicle, and figured out a way to help give insight into adopting (and other challenges) overseas via a book, a tv special, speaking engagements.

The longer they go on filming their show, the more they align with Kate and the Duggars and BPLW that they can't "go back".

They have choices. Arguably markedly more strategies at their disposal to affect changes and educate the public, as educated and intelligent people and people of means.
So, it occurs to me to ask, "why MUST they still film?"

BTW, no one is a sheeple for watching- they come off far, far nicer, but they still hold membership cards to the same club as J+K.

Further, there's many reasons to enable The Little Couple (is that the name?)- reasons that have given Kate a patina of respectability and have made people hesitant to judge.
Yet, we should not just look past little person status, infertility and other health issues, financial strain and HOM births and pretend that in the end, innocent, non consenting children are real life Truman Shows.

Jon grabbed headlines after the Today Show fiasco.
We have no idea how the TLC special is going to do.
If a dad goes on national tv and states unequivocally that he will not allow his children to be filmed by their mother, further asserting that said mother is using her children to remain relevant, I think that's not just fuel, it's incendiary.
The kind of controversy that draws eyeballs and sets up the PERFECT story arc of conflict and characters.

I think Mady is an above average intelligence kid who is good at sassing, like Tucker said. I see nothing particularly unique or earth shattering about her sassing. She is not a star or special. She seems to largely just repeat others' jokes. She is a bright, but normal kid who has been allowed to sass adults she does not respect, without consequence. She has also been given a lot of power by feeling she runs the show when it comes to her father. That has not been good for her or most kids her age. I suspect many kids her age can and do speak the same when there's no consequence to it or when parents think it's cute or when they've been given certain power. A star her sass does not make.

Do you think that since the kids are older now that they will notice more of the drudgery of takes and retakes after retakes? (especially if they get a series)

If there was no way to avoid them being on tv again I would have preferred Jon and the kids over her. (but I really don't want to see that either) He would have been more real and genuinely enjoy doing things with them. Jon and Eight Minus Kate. This show will be mostly her yapping and umming on the couch.

I sometimes watch the little couple, though I missed most of the episodes where they were building the house (yawn.....).

Jen does have a good-paying job, but my doctor's house sure doesn't look like theirs! It's harder to tell how much Bill earns. I don't think he's raking in money with a single specialty store, but believe it's more of a hobby / vanity business for him. I could be wrong.

I don't think TLC "built the house for them". There were rumors that they were doing that for Kate, but they were not true. I hope Jen and Bill did put their TLC wages into the house. If they own it free and clear, they could continue to sustain their lifestyle without the show.

I did notice on last night's show that Jen's speech has slowed down. Her rapid, staccato speech was one complaint people had about the show.

I like Jen and Bill and think they are probably the most "normal" people currently on TLC, but I have real qualms about filming the children.

Do you mean Mady? I know that people will watch just about anything these days, but a show featuring a snarky teenage girl, her practically mute twin sister, her beaten-down younger brothers, her often poorly-behaved younger sisters, and her obnoxious mother? I think a good example of why a zingers tween/teen doesn't work is Ruthie from 7th Heaven. She was such a snot and smart aleck under the guise of "cute." Zingers left and right. I'd also like to add that my son is 15 (almost 16) and he gets off some zingers on a regular basis. Sarcasm is his favorite form of humor right now. To me, he is an above-average individual -- but I can also see that he wouldn't be considered as capable of holding his own on a tv show. When I say that the Gosselin children are "average," I mean that they don't possess any unusual talents. If they had serious singing ability - their mother would have exploited that by now. Perhaps if Kate had been willing to give up some of her absolute control when the kids were younger, and allowed them to take dancing lessons, music lessons, singing, and/or acting classes -- and really allowed professionals to teach and guide them, then maybe there was some talent there waiting to be found and nurtured. But we saw that one episode with the talent scout, who basically told Kate she'd have to shut up and back off if she wanted the scout to promote the twins. Kate decided they didn't want to go that way.

So, the children remain average. The girls' appearance is also average. Sadly, I think the boys look like ragamuffins - so pinched and thin with mouths full of crooked teeth. Bless their hearts - the girls always get tended to first.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Could go either way. My feeling is that Kate incinerated her bridges with Eileen O'Neill. To be sure, old Eileen zoned in on Kate's complete lack of concern or protective nature for her children and exploited them to the fullest. Kate, however, was extremely greedy and demanding of expensive trips, perks and home improvements even when the ratings were in the toilet. Eileen washed her hands of Kate as soon as her five years were up.

Eileen is not with TLC anymore. I fear that Kate is now worming her way back in and will try to get another show. Someone said upthread about how the Little Couple are winning and I thought that was so great and true. Kids on reality tv aside, they are demonstrating, as I think the Hayes family did before them, what calm, loving, demonstrative and competent parenting is. They are everything Kate and her kids are not.

In the back of my mind, I wonder if this special will introduce Steve as Kate's boyfriend? I just can't see why TLC would want to bother with this succubus without something really juicy to update.

TLC stinks said...

I do not think the show will be a train wreck because of editing. Kate is banking on this rather than the live train wreck that happened on the Today Show. I believe she insisted on some control of the production. I also think she was in talks with TLC for months and the papers were just signed this week.

Now if she is not on CA, she has an excuse: scheduling conflict.

I'm not concerned about TLC giving her another show. They just care about ratings and from experience they know she cannot pull those numbers in, but I have to ask the question: why are they giving her a special? Part of her severance package?

The double leg amputee competing on DWTS blew the judges away last night. She was told she would not be judged differently from the other contestants. When she competed last night, she had just come from Sochi 3 days before, where she competed in snowboarding in the Para Olympics.

Amazing how this woman came to DWTS to compete and win, despite her disabilites, while Kate only did DWTS to collect a paycheck. Whining, crying, making excuses and being a total bitch the entire time.

Anonymous said...

I don't see the special being a train wreck. With only an hour of time and probably half of that taken up by previous highlights I'm thinking there won't be any "reality TV" on the show. It will be interviews and some filming in the house but none of the week-long filming that would lead TCFW into one of her narcissistic meltdowns.

I see just an update show with maybe 30 minutes of carefully scripted new footage that will be culled from one day of shooting. She can keep it together long enough to get ten minutes of herself on camera with the rest devoted to the eight kids.

What I don't think you will see is any new footage of the kids outside of the compound. TFW doesn't let them have any outside activities like sports, dancing, etc. that TLC could film them participating in. All the kids ever got to do was whatever TLC financed, and I don't think TLC is going to provide a trip to the beach just to catch up on what the kids have been up to over the last three years.

Hopeful that the ratings are in the septic tank!

There is still a lot about this mess that we will never know. J & K are both to blame for filming their children. Sure, they had children they could not afford to have, but many people I know have large families. Everyone works and it's not in the entertainment industry. That update on TLC will not answer a single question and it will be boring. We have been fed lies by these people since the beginning.

I am just scratching my head as to why TLC offered her this update. It will predominately a clip show, so why? What is different from what she tweets? Except for a handful of fans, people have not been beating down TLC's doors to see her on TV. Unless it was written into her contract that TLC was obligated to air some updates, it makes no sense. Alas, Sparkle, we both are wondering if there will be the big reveal about Steve. Holding hands at that concert was out of character for those two. Maybe they just don't care anymore?

lukebandit said...

Sparkle, ITA!

I thought the same thing when it was just reported that Steve and kate were holding hands. But at first, I thought it was at the Demi Levato concert. Now I know it was after that.

I thought the same thing that kate and Steve may come out as a couple on the TLC special. Can you imagine the spin those 2 peas in a pod would put on this lie of all lies? Steve and Gina's marriage was all ready in the toilet when Steve took the job of guarding kate's Lloyd's of London body.

kate, feeling like Jon was against her and everybody in the world, against her except for Steve.

All the long periods of time on the book tours, traveling, eating together just over a long period of time developed into a deep friendship and then into a beautiful heartfelt, I heart you romance.

Old School: GAG me with a spoon! lol

I wonder if TLC made kates Lloyd's of London body insurance premium payments. She heard real actresses had body parts insured and demanded that TLC do her whole body, hance the bodyguard! lol

DWTS was so good. Nene and St. Tony were terrific! She put kate to Shame! Tony was SO proud of her! Also, D.J. Tanner, Candice Cameron and Mark ? Loved their dance! She did fantastic. They danced in a way that I don't think anyone has on there before.

Oh, I thought they were reportedly holding hands at the DL concert.
It's also curious that Jon's most recent interview with Rob Schuter included a question about Steve and Kate being together.
Jon was like "that's cool, nice guy, knows my kids".

I was a bit surprised by that. Not that Jon would throw a fit over his suspicions about Steve and Kate being true, but that he pretty much embraced it.

TLC? Why do people tune in?
About the 10 year update? Despicable in my mind.

I wasn't all that surprised by that reaction. They split years ago. Most normal people all this time later wouldn't give two hoots who their ex wants to date as long as they are kind to their children. It's not really his problem if she wants to date a married man. I find it much more strange the sheeple's preoccupation with Liz.

I also do not like Bill. He seems very pompous and when they moved, he started a business. How is it going? Jen has always been the primary breadwinner. Her constant cackle would drive anyone nuts. He was so concerned on last night's show about her. Was it because he thought he would lose his big income? They are no different than Kate.

Rainbirdie said...

I can't imagine it's costing TLC very much to put on the update show. It's just a matter of editing the old footage that they already own and then adding a several minutes of new stuff. We're only talking about an hour here, not a 3-part series. I'm guessing it's just an inexpensive time filler right before they start the summer reruns. We already know that they won't be pulling in enough viewers to make any substantial money - if there was real money to be made, there would still be a regularly scheduled show.

Thanks to all of you who welcomed my new friends into my home (and heart). They are doing great and adapted quite well to the other felines and canines here.

Someone asked what I named them. Sorry, I don't remember who it was. Rhymes? They don't have names yet. I called them "You guys" all winter, figuring that if they didn't have names, I wouldn't get attached to them. Best laid plans of mice and men (or cats and Moms)...it didn't work out that way.

So, I'm still thinking about names. When we adopted our puppy from the shelter, I had watched some old (VERY old) reruns of the Gidget movies) that night, and named the pup "Moondoggie" because it just fit. One of the new cats has warmed up to the dog who has become her surrogate parent. I figured I'd call that cat "Gidget," and maybe Kahuna for the other one? It's still up in the air, though!

Good for Jon, really.

lol, Auntie! She continues to amaze me. Whenever I think she can't possibly be any more stupid (or kiss Kate's butt any more than she already has) she surprises the heck out of me with something that really confirms what an idiot she really is. Then again, she has me scratching my head -- is she REALLY a moron, or just sets herself up to appear as such? It's a conundrum for sure.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Yeah but they split 5 years ago and whether we like Liz Jon really is in love with her. That's plenty of time to have long moved past any anger over that, plus it's easier to let things like that roll off you when you're happy and in love.

Re Bill and Jenn: ... so if they're so darn smart, they should have gotten their message out by now via this vehicle, and figured out a way to help give insight into adopting (and other challenges) overseas via a book, a tv special, speaking engagements.

I don't think speaking about overseas adoption and educating others has been possible for them since until recently they've been in the process of learning themselves. They adopted Will just 5-6 months before leaving to pick up Zoey and then Jenn was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer. They've had their hands full.

Pre medical problems Jenn lectured around the country about neonatal intensive care and the simulation training she spearheaded at her hospital as well as working full-time w/rotating on-call shifts. Bill owns or is part-owner of 2 businesses that I know of and now they're parents of 2 toddlers. With a top 10 cable show w/3-5 million viewers each week, I think they're doing a great job of spreading the word about foreign adoptions.

++++

It's harder to tell how much Bill earns. I don't think he's raking in money with a single specialty store, but believe it's more of a hobby / vanity business for him.

Bill originally owned a medical? sales, training and telecom business in New York which, last I heard, was expanding. I'm not sure if he still owns the business or if he sold it w/in the last couple of years.

I think that this upd8 show is part of the severance package that she negotiated when the show was cancelled. I however prefer to call it an "up chuck" show because TFW will do nothing but spew about how gr8 life is, how gr8 the kids are and how grrrrrrrrrr88888888 she herself is. I agree with those that don't think it will be a train wreck. Unfortunately for TFW and TLC that's not what people want to see. TFW's kept herself in the news by being uber bitch and nice will stink for ratings. If people want nice they'll watch the Little Couple. I also agree with those that have said the kids are average. Average in looks and average in talent and there's nothing wrong with being average. I agree with the poster upturned who said that if ant of the 8 had an extraordinary talent TFW would have exploited it by now. Finally, I totally agree that talking back to adults, throwing zingers at your parents is cute on a sit com but in real life it's bratty. Although bratty, spoiled, entitled kids with an uber bitch for a mother may bring in better ratings.

Just as long as the boyfriend isn't harming the kids in anyway. Why would Jon care who's KK dating?

Plus if KK's a Steve's mistress then Jon was right all these years and so were the rag magazines..

Maybe this TLC update will backfire on her just like the Today show
____________________________________________________

Depends on TLC intentions. Do they want to lie and show Kate as a loving, hands-on Mother of 8 or do they want to show the "real" Kate as they did in the RV episodes?
----------------------------
I am simply guessing the filming is a TLC adventure, to see if people want to see the kids.. Pretty much everyone normal knows how TFW really is, but want to see for themselves how the kids are doing, with all the back and forth recently with these two. I could be wrong, but was Jon relieved of child support if he agreed to let Kate film with the kids? (If there was any offers).

I know the TLC contract ended with a period where they could not film due to a clause, without TLC's permission. But with all of the recent exposure, I think they both want to do "their thing" - with Kate using her kids once again/interviews and Jon on CT and many interviews..
Pointless law suit, hand holding, simply trying to keep herself out there. And Jon as well, since they have completed the contract clause of filming, although Kate got some breaks with this.

Bottom line, I don't care what either of them do, without the kids. But what they do does effect the kids regardless. They are not babies any more. The whole thing with them co-parenting is hideous at this point after all of these years, They both need to understand that none of these kids are equipped to deal with THEIR public display of anger with the other. Let alone broadcasting it in interviews, articles, shows, blogs, etc.

Time to put the kids first and stop with the egotism. Does either of them ever think of what is best for kids they "prayed to God for" to have?" It is all very disturbing after all they have been given, but maybe that is the problem. They both need to get a life without bashing each other and using their kids. It is old, tired and embarrassing for the very kids that made them rich.

Cesspool of Hate said...

I've been skimming the comment sections and NOTHING is positive.

prairiemary said...

I don't see how they are going to film anything relevant that is new about the kids, tfw spends her days tweeting about every little thing they do as it is! And even though the kids are turning 10, I believe the sheeple will still see them as the age they were in the RV episode. They don't want to have them grow up, they want them to stay small so they can remain little and cute. I also agree with you NJGal51, this update show would have been part of her severance package, as we all heard about at the time. And tfw likely was sure that she would have major control over how it would be filmed.
I think that tfw has learned an awful lot of things, just from reading on this blog. I sure would have read here if I was her, all kinds of ideas and criticisms have been discussed here.

I guess she also doesn't know that Steve IS married.

And Haters were right all these years too.

If Steve and Gina were "separated" during Kate and Steve's affair, why did Gina come to Kate's home? Why did Kate attempt to have a party for Gina's parents? ("I promise I won't get drunk?")

When Jon was separated and dated he was a scumbag but Kate can date an OBVIOUSLY MARRIED MAN and she's still the pinnacle of all that is holy.

Amazeballs.

I recall an announcement when TFMJG was on Dancin With Them There Stars, about an upcoming show called Twist of TFMJG
Still waitin for that one to show up on our TV screens.
any update special might end up on cutting room floor. or it might end up being a very inexpensively produced clip show with two minutes of current photos. They could even purchase still photos from People and just have voice over narration. Extra cheap way to do am update.
They will not be spending much money on this.
I still want to see the special where the former crew members from over the years talk about how difficult TFMJG and company were to work with.
