Real Housewife's ex: The children are too young and 'do not understand the consequences' of Reality T.V.

"I will not sign the consent form for my eight-year-old daughter or my other children, to participate on the Shows, because I know the negative impact and consequences it will have on their health and well being."

Simon Barney has responded to his ex-wife's Tamra's bid to ask a judge to allow her to put their three children back on The Real Housewives of Orange County.

Portions of the response filed in Orange County family law court last Friday include the following:

“They have been targeted and are the subject of consistent embarrassment due to the content of the show and their mother’s involvement…The show (has) started to become increasingly more about the alcohol, intoxication, sex and bad behavior …. The truth is consistently manipulated in the show in order to make the story line more dramatic and to boost ratings. The manipulation and falsification of original statements and actions results in a negative perception from the public and it destroys one’s reputation….
"All major decisions pertaining to health, education and day care shall be made jointly by the parents. She is seeking to take away my right to parent and make decisions regarding the lasting effects and impacts the show may have on my children. This is not a unilateral ‘routine’ decision, it is a ‘major decision’ that must be made jointly….[Sophia is] too young [and] unable to make a decision on her own regarding her participation in the show as she does not understand the consequences it may have. Respondent states that Sophia has expressed her desire to be on the show, but that is only because Respondent has told Sophia that she has to sit out on all ‘fun’ activities because I won’t let her be filmed. An eight year old child us going to want to be a part of the activities is she is told they are ‘fun’ and she is being forced to sit out...
"…Our children appeared on the show from time to time, as one of the focuses on the show was out family and encouraged our familial relationship. The show first aired in 2005 and I appeared briefly on the show from 2007 to 2009. My children made appearances in those years, but with strict supervision and approval from me. If my children were to be on my show, I had stated to the production company… that I was to approve all footage and the children were only to be filmed with my supervision and presence.  At that time, (the production company) agreed. It was a good thing that I was on the show and supervising my children. One time while the show was being filmed, one of the cast members stated something about “T-Bagging” which is an inappropriate sexual comments, while Sidney, age 10 at the time, was present. I immediately took my daughter away and stated to the cast member that such comments were inappropriate while children were around. Later, he agreed that I was correct in needing to be present. It was around this time that the show deviated sharply from the family oriented dynamic it had while I was on the show [and was] the major reason I refused to allow the children to continue on the show....
"(The production company) will only air the footage of my minor children if I give my consent, or if the Court orders that only Respondent’s consent is required for the children to be filmed. I will not sign the consent form for my eight year old daughter or my other children, to participate on the Shows, because I know the negative impact and consequences it will have on their health and well being.”

This actually presents an interesting legal question for California and it will be interesting to see what happens.

Simon is correct, Joint legal custody in CA means you share jointly the "major" decisions in a child's life, decisions like for health, education, day care (and he left out religion but maybe they're not religious). The legal question becomes does putting your child on reality T.V. constitute one of those major legal decisions such that you must both agree or a judge decides? Or is it a minor decision like whether to give a child an apple at lunch that one parent need not get consent from the other for or go to court over? Obviously I'm hoping the judge continues to find that Simon's consent is required.

Lalalalala said...

Being a child on a reality TV show is obviously life altering for that child. I admire Simon for fighting this. He gave excellent reasons for why the kids shouldn't be thrown into this circus-like atmosphere. Tamra should be ashamed of herself for even thinking that exposing the children to this is a good idea. It's self-centered on her part. Children do NOT belong in reality TV, EVER.

This is a very interesting case, and it will be interesting to see the eventual ruling. The example given of Simon being present and being able to remove his child from inappropriate discussions or situations is a good one. it would be nice if the judge in Pennsylvania had listened to Jon about not filming his children.

Thanks to seeing the show referred to so often on this site , I binged non-stop on the entire 5 seasons. Loved it!

Now I'm watching Boardwalk Empire episodes almost daily. I was also a big Sopranos fan - couldn't get enough of that show.

This giddy over a bird thing is bizarre. So the kids leave for school and she plays with her new $$$ toy? Probably while she shops at Amazon. Another reason she can't have a job - bird raising now.

Yes, no filming=no fun, travel, freebies etc.
Of course, it's all Daddy's fault that they don't go anywhere anymore.
That's exactly why there was wailing x 8 when Kate told them the show was canceled. Why else would a 7-year old cry that cameras wouldn't be in their face?
Kate has also let it out of the bag that the children are very aware that the show paid the bills, the house, the school etc... because they asked if they'd still have all those things when the show was canceled, per Kate!
I'm sure Simon is also very aware of the commitments that are agreed to by the parent, for the children to perform, not get sick, not film.

Simon get's it. Parent's responsibility is to protect, not exploit children for fame and money. Good for him!

Millicent said...

While I remain unimpressed with either Simon or Tamra as human beings, in this instance, Simon is trying to do the right thing by his children. (Maybe he's doing it to spite Tamra, but the reason isn't actually important, if the goal is to keep those children off reality tv and protected from the public glare and other pitfalls of the process.) I think a good and fair family law judge would agree with Simon's argument that the decision to make your children part of a public spectacle such as a reality tv show, is indeed a "major" decision, and that both parents should agree on that decision.

Tamra has always been a gold digger, which is why she married Simon in the first place. She lucked out and got the RH gig, and finally got some money of her own. Of course she is desperately trying to ensure that money keep coming in, because once it stops, she's going to have to try to find another rich guy to latch onto. And in southern California, she'll be competing with countless younger versions of herself.

Millicent said...

I wanted to add in my 2 cents to the Amazon discussion on the last post - hope it's okay :)

I definitely read the reviews posted about various products, books, whatever before deciding whether to purchase. I am sure some of the reviews might be put their to promote the product (either by employees or paid reviewers), but if you take the time to read 10 or more reviews, you can get a feel for which ones are definitely genuine. Some people really leave long, detailed reviews.

I also had a minor problem just today with an Amazon order. I have a new credit card, which I had added to my account 2 months ago. At the time, I thought I de-activated the old card, but apparently not. So my orders were "declined" because my payment method was no longer valid. I couldn't work it out on the website, so I asked for an Amazon rep to call my office. That happened within one minute, and a pleasant rep helped me fix the problem in no time.

There are some downsides to Amazon, but their customer service is usually stellar. That's sadly getting less and less common with retailers, so I appreciate it very much.

Formerly Duped said...

Millicent, I totally agree with you about Amazon's customer service. They do get back to you immediately and often fix a problem in the customer's favor, such as free shipping even with a cancelled item or returned goods. I also agree this is very rare! How often do you get a 'live' person and straight away, too, whether a retail query or a medical or insurance or so on?

This is an example of no amount of money being enough for some people. Tamra's a millionaire both from Real Housewives and other ventures. She doesn't need the kids for money. But greed makes her want more and more such that she'll sacrifice their privacy and well being to have it. Sick and sad.

The Empress Has New Clothes said...

I agree that Tamra's a striver--her stint on RH makes that abundantly clear. Maybe a gold-digger, too, although Eddie's not exactly rolling in the dough. And while she's raking in the dough from RH and various enterprises (not the gym, which rumor has it isn't faring very well), I seriously doubt she's a millionaire, though she'd probably like us to think so.

More to the point of this blog: Her lawsuit suggests that Tamra's willing to sacrifice her kids at the altar of fame and fortune. It's beyond the realm of what I'd call good mothering. That much, I know for sure.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Most of the Housewives salaries were leaked earlier this year by OK magazine. They are reportedly accurate. Tamra made 325,000 an episode. She's been on the show for five seasons. There's no reason she should not be a multi millionaire times ten at that rate. That's more than 3 million a season.

The Empress Has New Clothes said...

Maybe OK is right. I drew my conclusions from the fact that she rented a lower-end South OC condo when she separated from Simon. That, and the fact that she said on-air the amount she had available to invest in her fitness studio. It wasn't much.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Like most rich people she probably has a great deal of her millions tied up in stocks and other investments. Actual liquid cash you can just pull out may not be that accessible. Also a lot of rich people are extremely stingy and will do things like rent cheap condos. She may have also been doing it for appearances, I.e. to project an Image Simon left her destitute. In any case I believe OK's numbers. They did a whole investigation into the salaries and obtained almost everyone's.

capecodmama said...

Tamra has a story line with her new marriage and her fitness studio so she doesn't need to drag her kids into her drama. I always thought Simon was very controlling with Tamra so I wasn't surprised when they divorced. In my opinion the worst one on the show is Vicky. Everything that happens with her is never her fault. Deflect, deflect, deflect.

capecodmama said...

Admin., I think Tamra made $325,000 per season, not episode.

What is with these people? Who would feel sympathy for them? And yet sheeple do. It's craziness. You made more than a quarter million just to screw around for a handful of episodes. Then you made it again a few months later. With proper money management there's no reason anyone would ever have to worry about another dime again. Yet they go around crying woe is me. I guess you could put the chops on the broiler pan and then put the broiler pan in the oven and broil the chops. I don't think, though, that would be following Kate's instructions...it's a crockpot recipe.

She has made almost 2 million so far and it goes on. This does not even begin to count all the other projects she has taken on as a direct result of her fame from the show. Yes, it is more money than most people will make in a lifetime, anonymous, nothing disingenuous about it.

Charity Info Is Untrue said...

I really don't think it is appropriate for people to be pitching for their personal favorite charities, but if those lists are going to be provided at least the information should be accurate. General Charity Info's is anything but. For example:

1) Make A Wish Foundation -- 100% of $ does not go to granting wishes. CEO compensation: $365,587 + $81,393 bonus. Marketing costs: 1.679 million. Accounting costs: 1.6 million. Etc., etc.

2) St. Jude's -- 10 employees earned $500,000 or more in salaries plus retirement and other compensation

3) Ronald McDonald Houses -- There are hundreds of them and staff are paid. It is untrue that 100% of revenues go to housing. For example, CEO of Ronald McDonald House of NY earns almost 400K per year.

I am not suggesting that these organizations are not worthy of support based on their executive's salaries. I do, however, think it is unfair to suggest that Charity A shouldn't be supported because the CEO is well compensated and then list Charity B as one to support, when in fact Charity B's CEO also is well compensated.
(Source: 2011 990s courtesy of Guidestar)

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Everything but the smallest charities are going to have some overhead.
It's always kind of confused me why people get so upset about overhead. As long as the overhead is reasonable to what the charity accomplishes, it shouldn't be a big deal. When it crosses the line beyond what is reasonable that's another matter. But people need to be paid if you want the kind of skills necessary to head up some of the bigger more complicated charities. I don't have a problem with a CEO making X amount of dollars if what they are accomplishing is worth that same amount of money.

Rainbirdie said...

Why would it be so important to Tamra to have her kids on the show? She's done the family, separation & divorce, hot new man, wedding & start a new business storylines. If she goes back to family mom, will she get more 'face time'? (I do think that camera time is the ultimate goal of each & every housewife...thus the numerous tantrums.) However, I'm guessing that if the kids are on the show, then the kids get a paycheck and thats a huge motivating factor too.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I also think private charities often accomplish more than public ones, and compared to government overhead spending their overhead spending is peanuts.

Let the free market decide what is a fair salary (and other expenses) for those who head up great private charities. That may be 400,000, which sounds outrageous but at least it is a fair market number that corresponds to their skills and accomplishments. If we don't pay fairly, that person may go to some company that is not a charity, and in many cases that is a big loss. The resume of most of these CEOs are usually impressive. Many have worked for presidents, or other big respected companies. You can't just find these people from volunteers off the street. I personally have had a heart for the Red Cross for over a decade now, but I have no business helping to run the company. I am not skilled for such a thing no matter how much I love that charity. I have a bigger problem with a Real Housewife making a similar salary who is unskilled and not accomplishing anything but a heck of a lot of candles I've had to light for you ladies who've never seen it!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Rain, I don't quite understand it either unless she is just feeling desperate to provide something new to film. Or maybe wants to be seen as a good mom. Real Housewives has actually never really been about the kids. At least not in the past five years or so. Occasionally some of the OLDER kids, like older teens, might have a bit of screen time but her kids are still pretty young.

They follow a format of putting the ladies in the same room and watching the fights and confrontations ensue, usually about who said what behind whose back. This goes on for an hour, then is continued at the next episode for another hour. And so it goes! An eight year old child doesn't really add much to the "drama." They just don't "fit" into the current format, so I don't know what she is so worried about. Kim and Kyle Richards both have kids and they are on the show. But I don't even remember their names. Kyle's youngest about four is just sort of there. She had a birthday party once on the show, but most of the filming was about the adults fighting at the party. The child maybe got a minute of screen time. It is in no way shape or form filmed in the manner of Jon and Kate Plus 8 where the focus really was the kids and revolved around the kids' stories, personalities, etc.

It's the ratio of income to resource distribution that matters, in my book, as well as their oversight policies & procedures. See also: the alignment of promises made with that of people/animals/institutions actually served. So, in short, a CEOs image in the private sector matters less to me than their integrity. Very infrequently are they the face or voice of a charity, anyway…unless trouble's brewing.

And as for Tamra, this past season was the first in a long while where she was perceived as marginally likable. I suspect she's wanting to continue that trend, in which case she might want to promote herself as a down-home mom. Side benefits = more money, of course. Kids for the win!

I don't think Tamra's kids would be paid if they were on the show. A few years ago, Teresa from RHONJ was having a fit and falling in it because her four young kids were not being compensated for being on the show but Caroline Manzo's kids (also RHONJ) who were in their twenties were being compensated at $20,000. each per season. Teresa didn't think that was fair. If I recall, Bravo said something along the lines of they don't compensate the young kids but they do the older ones because they can add to the story line.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I'm not sure how Bravo gets away with that in California with Orange County and Beverly Hills since California law REQUIRES that reality T.V. kids be compensated. I remember this was brought up before TLC was paying the kids but they brought them out to California I think to San Diego to the zoos. More than likely, they broke CA law by not paying them during that time. But if no one ever pursues it they got away with it.

That might explain Tamra's motivations, money and greed. She would get additional salaries times three if her three kids participated. Probably not 325,000, but it would be a fair amount. Granted, a portion of it has to go into a Coogan trust, but the rest is Tamra's to squander.

More or less how I see it. If a CEO makes 400,000 a year, but the charity gives back 400 million, that's a pretty good return. And actually, if you average it out percentage wise, you could make a fair argument that a CEO at a much smaller charity that makes 40,000, but the charity is only giving back 100,000 a year, is a much worse and more troubling situation, as they are making 40% of what the charity gives out in total. Yet I don't think anyone would begrudge a CEO 40,000.

Maybe she really just likes Amazon or she's trying to grift the annual Prime membership fee of $79. It's a long shot for her but maybe she has dreams of becoming a spokesperson for them...you know, "busy mom of 8, blah, blah, blah finds time to shop Amazon." I would hope that Amazon (or anyone else) would ask themselves "Busy doing what?". The kids are in school and she doesn't have a job. I guess she's busy going online and ordering from Amazon. I doubt that Amazon is even paying attention to her tweets. I'd pay more attention to regular mom on a commercial saying that because of Amazon and their great prices she can afford a better Christmas this year.

There are so many issues with donating. One organization might have the most money go to the needy but they're anti-gay. Another might only help the arts, but not vets. And on and on. They are free to choose who they want to help; I'm free to choose who I donate to.

For me, I choose to help locally in ways where I know 100% of what I give goes to help someone. I watch for those people. An obviously poor man helping his elderly mother at the grocery store finds his grocery bill paid. And a few extra fun items in his bag of groceries. Sometimes I'll give him $20 bucks for gas.
A little old lady at the nursing home who has no relatives finds me being her advocate. The old man struggling across an icy parking lot to Walgreen's finds me lending a sturdy arm, and an offer to help him in the store.
A fun thing to do is to take a day and warmly smile at everyone you come across. People's faces just light up when they see you. Especially people not used to getting a warm smile from strangers.
Another fun thing to do is watch for struggling people, walk up to them and ask in a kindly way, 'Can I help?'

Charity Navigator is a pretty good place to find out info about a charity (especially big, well known ones). I only did a couple (because I have a life), but if you want to know more you can go here: www.charitynavigator.org

The American Red Cross: 3/4 stars
March of Dimes: 2/4 stars
UNICEF: 4/4 stars
Make a Wish: 3/4 stars
Ronald McDonald Houses: 4/4 stars

The person who posted the charity postings most likely got that info from facebook, which I've seen before. Always double check info you get from facebook.

Great post.
We have organizations that get our major donations, but we also give locally.
Last week, I was shopping at Macys. Great sales, Doorbusters etc. I had my coupons all lined up to get further discounts.
I was in line and the woman in front of me was checking out and the cashier asked her if she had any coupons. She said she didn't, but wished she did like me (I had at least a half dozen).
I saw I had a "Wow" pass that is good for repeated use all day, and offered to have the cashier scan it for her, since it didn't need a Macy's charge to work.
The woman got $20 off her purchase and thanked me.
Really, it made my day.

The dh and I belong to a club that, years back, started donating bicycles for children to local Christmas Mother program. Every county or city in our region has one volunteer spokesperson for their local Christmas mother, to help gather donations for families in need, done thru social services and local churches. The effort has grown over the years, and this year they raised enough money to get over 200 bicycles. Walmart sells the bikes unassembled to the club for a significant discount, volunteers put the bicycles together and deliver to social services along with helmets. Its great, and every years there are lots of volunteer mechanics at the assembly party!

I was reading a newspaper article the other day about former football players, retired, who are moving into sports broadcasting. It was about the coaching they have to get to be in front of a camera, since playing the game is not anything like talking about the game. Made me think of TFW, who really needed something like this if she was ever serious about talking in front of a camera. Which goes back to the fact that she would never do the work it requires to be successful - doesn't get it, refuses to do it. Nobody just gets a job in media without training, either through education or on the job training. Private coaching would have also been a step in the right direction. No, she's still waiting for someone to drop a cushy job in her lap, but as these athletes are finding out, you DO need the training to do this work. Maybe the bird will teach her.

The contract is Tamra's contract, leaked by Simon as part of his court documents. It shows how incredibly restrictive filming is, Bravo basically said if you get hurt mentally or physically it is not our fault. Well played Simon, Tamra must be FUMING! Too bad Jon wasn't this savvy.

Basically that is blackmailing you into continuing something that may have become very detrimental for you because if you don't, that's 300,000 out the window. What if you're about to have a nervous breakdown and really need to stop? You've lost all that money. Or you can continue in a compromised mental state. Not very good options.

Uh, all the "Mr. Amazon" comments...does everyone remember that an Amazon is a woman?

On the Tamra subject, I'm thinking a little outside the box on this one. Does this mean that there can be no camera crews on the property when the child is present? Perhaps Tamra's job would be in jeopardy if this were the case. The film/production crews are on a schedule and may not be able to accommodate a court order. Since the show focuses on the "housewives", I don't see the harm in the children being on the periphery. (RHONJ features too much of the Guidice children, IMO) As to the crew making inappropriate remarks in front of children, perhaps some sensitivity training is in order. IMO, Simon's treatment of women is something I find more concerning. This is all about power over his ex.

PJ

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I don't know I think if this were about power over his ex there are a lot of other worse things he could do like file for full custody, which is what Kate did. I think his statements about why he didn't want the kids on tv were reasonable and intelligent and sincere. I didn't detect revenge. Rather I saw a father with incredibly legitimate concerns. That show is a hot mess. Any father should be concerned even one who isn't someone Id be friends with.

Orange crusher, that is interesting and true about athletes. There is a reason every season of DWTS has athlete or ESPN sports caster. Since Disney owns ABC and ESPN, the synergy is there. gets the sports fans to watch the athlete in a different setting. Get the DWTS viewers to become interested in the sport, or watching the athlete on espn.
can you imagine the disappointment and/ or anger, at TFMJG, from whoever advocated for her to be on DWTS for her then to waste the opportunity? She got a lot of publicity while on the show. And it demonstrated how hard she was to work with.

As I stated in an earlier comment, when I watched this show years ago (at a time when Simon and Tamra were still married and both on the show), I didn't like either of them. They both came across as shallow and self-serving, and I felt they were quite well suited for one another.

However, there is an old saying that comes to mind. "Even a broken clock is right twice a day." In this case, regardless of what I think of Simon or his possible ulterior motives for fighting to keep his children off this trash show, the goal he is seeking is a good goal. Therefore, I support him in this particular court fight. There is no good or valid reason for the minor children to participate in this show (it truly is trash tv).

If this is Tamra's job, then she ought to do what other working moms do with their children when working - find daycare for them. I worked out of my home for several years when my child was young, and I had to have uninterrupted time and quiet in the background (I was on the phone a lot). So I put my son in a lovely family daycare situation for four hours per day. Why can't Tamra do something similar? (Plus, I believe the daughter in question is of school age, and therefore ought to be in school during much of the filming time.)

I suppose if it's in the contract and the contract is read and signed, then yes, it's totally legal.

Morally however, is it right? My opinion is no, absolutely not. But we're talking reality t.v. and of its producers who are this generation's P.T. Barnum.

If there are people out there willing to concede to such conditions then who's to say they shouldn't? Whatever, it's your psyche and mental health at stake.

What we need to remind ourselves, and them, is that children don't have the cognitive or reasoning abilities to make the same decision and no one, not even their parents, has the right to subject minor children to such a situation.

How many adults need to lose their shit as a result of being involved in reality t.v. before we just flat out insist that the same dangers, and perhaps even worse as they are still developing, are too great a risk to have children involved?

I know nothing about the RH franchise other than it about as real as Kate's "realest reality show" so I don't know anything about this couple.

What I do know is that I applaud the dad for standing up for his children and not letting his ex-wife exploit them.

Okay, I wonder if anyone else remembers an old Seinfeld episode where George is wondering why he can't get a job as a sports announcers, because he makes colorful remarks whenever he's watching a game, and Jerry points out that most of those jobs go to former athletes or people in broadcasting. LOL

But back to the main point, which is that most professional athletes are driven individuals, who have already demonstrated their willingness to put in hours of hard work to achieve goals. Like most of the athletes who compete on DWTS, they take the challenge seriously and will usually throw themselves into mastering the techniques needed to succeed.

I believe Kate was driven at one time, and formulated a plan loosely based on another family who had multiples and became famous. I think she schemed and finagled and got lucky in her timing, and ended up with sextuplets and soon after that, a tv show. But once that occurred, her one life's goal was met and she wanted to rest on her laurels. For her, it wasn't about bringing out the best in herself in order to achieve.

In fact, her way has always been to take shortcuts, to push others to do things for her, and to take credit where credit is most definitely not due.

So I said to the clerk, that I wanted to pay for whatever the soldier was ordering and handed the clerk $10. I had to move down the line to the pick up area to get my order and I was getting nervous because the clerk was taking his time (I wanted to get out of there before the soldier relized I was the one paying for his order). So finally the clerk brings my coffees and I rush out the door and as I'm leaving I hear the clerk shout "Miss, your change, you forgot your change!" LOL. Here I am trying to be annoymous and the clerk is shouting across the shop at me. LOL. I just waved off the clerk and scooted out the door and got in my vehicle as fast as I could before the soldier came out.

So Kate uses Amazon and "finds it all"? Isn't this contradicting her own coupon site that lists multiple vendors? In the tweet she's basically endorsing going to Amazon for all your shopping needs.

So she wants her fans to use her coupon site, but in the meantime she's promoting Amazon. As usual, she makes no sense.

She hasn't updated her blog on her coupon site about how she saves using coupons-there's been nothing posted since the site opened. Whatever happened to her sharing how she saved on coupons deals? She was even supposed to share her fans stories about how they saved, too.

I think that the coupon site was just another one of her shiny new toys, that she played with for about a minute and then promptly put it out of her mind.

When I was in my apt., I went to the office to pay my rent before lunch one morning and when I was coming out, an elderly couple were walking on the sidewalk going to their car. We struck up a conversation and he told me that they had just got married at the courthouse that morning and they had came their to pay their rent. They were so happy. They warmed my heart, because of my sad divorce from my ex. It gave me hope that you can find love out there again. Something impressed on me to give them 10 dollars to buy their lunch. I wanted to, but I didn't and I have regretted it ever since.

I have thought about it over the years and how they would of reacted after receiving it. I thought, I could of given them their first wedding gift. I just could kick myself for not doing it.

I give to Jimmy Hale Mission about an hour from me. They have a women's shelter there for women and children called Jessie's Place. I am going to send them some money for the Christmas meals. I do it in honor of my grandfather, my sons and my grandson.

I just wish I could turn back the clock and give them their present.

For Christmas one year, I bought a bunch of coupons from Hardee's for breakfast that was a free bisquit and coffee. I gave them out to people at the kids school. I gave the man and woman couple bus drivers that drove the kids to the sports games. I gave the lady 2 for her and her husband. She was so stunned and flabbergasted that she was given that and I wrote, thank you for taking care of my boys on the trips, I really appreciate it. I had went into the gym getting ready for a bbgame and she came to me crying, so tore up and hugging and thanking me. I really believe it was the recognition of being appreciated for what they have done for years and years. She was in shock. Sometimes, it takes just a little to make someone very happy.

Amazon also has a price tracker, CamelCamelCamel, which lists historically low prices and allows you to put in your desired price for an item and sends you e-mail alerts when the price drops. I haven't tried it yet, but some of my friends have, and before they make a purchase, they look to see if the prices are anywhere near the historical low, or if it's in the high price range. They then wait to see if it drops before they place an order. Kind of like Wall Street!

If you have time to write a book, you have time to promote it. There's no excuse for not promoting your work other than laziness. She never even bothered to make some kind of sidebar or tab with the book that is always there when you open any page on her site. That is basic. In this day in age, being a celebrity is 10% actual acting or whatever your "talent" is, and 90% promotion. In fact I've heard a lot of celebs complain that the part of their job they hate the most is promotion, they want to just act. But it has to be done, it's part of the deal.

@Kateplusmy8 Wow Kate...amazing the bond/ camaraderie between twins! I'm sure U've seen it w/Cara & Mady! pic.twitter.com/01GxxvHMih

Everything in Milo's life revolves around Kate. She sees a picture of twins, and compares them to Cara and Mady, and she's SURE Kate's seen camaraderie between them.

I wonder if Milo is so deep into this Kate thing that she actually believes she's part of her life. At what point does an obsession actually pass from a simple girl (or woman) crush on a celebrity into a full-blown mental issue?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

That is creepy the way everything she sees somehow relates to Kate and the kids either because it reminds her of them or she wants to share some stupid thing from the web with them.

Moreover, more than likely an adult put that arm around his twin. Although there is no doubt twins have a special bond and do seek to be close to each other when they are babies, it looks like a one day old infant--they cannot possibly have the capacity to understand such a gesture or make it. If the baby did it on his own, it was random.

I don't think that model is a Gosselin. She does resemble Mady - at age 7 - but I am willing to bet a fruit cake that is not a Gosselin.

I looked at it again zooming in a bit with the touchpad and I don' think so anymore. The nose isn't right and it looks like baby teeth. She sure is a dead ringer though.

However, photoshop can alter appearances. So I can't completely rule it out. There was a cover of People so heavily photoshopped where if it I saw each photo individually I would doubt that was them. I have a feeling though Kate would probably have bragged about this one.

Sleepless In Seattle said...

------------

Yup...that's the first thing I thought when I saw that photo. Either the arm was placed there, or it randomly landed there. If a teddy bear would have been there instead, the baby would have had an arm over the bear, and I doubt that there's any amazing bond between a newborn and a bear.

Rainbirdie said...

Maybe I'm not remembering things correctly, but I don't recall the show ever specifically focusing on C & M as having a special bond as twins. I'm sure they have one, I just don't think the show highlighted it. (Just a random thought since Milo brought up the topic of their bond/comaraderie)

There IS a special bond between many twins, it's been well documented. This was not one of those moments. Why make things up about it?

I am no authority on the subject but maybe it isn't that uncommon for twins to bond that way. When they're in the womb they wrap their arms around one another. They may do the same outside of the womb when they're placed together.

TFW (and Milo and the rest of the flock) consider everything she does to be working. TFW's list includes everything from filing lawsuits to 'protect her children' from their father, grifting, sending out videos to get a tv show, online shopping, masterminding, tweeting, consulting with lawyers to sue Jon, LaFair and Robert, posing for paps, reading/responding to e-mails about taking down her haters, making lists, cooking meals for her family, and on and on. She believes that's 'supporting' her family.

As for Milo - she'd say anything, no matter how ludicrous, to back her idol. Since she chooses to ignore the clues TFW drops all to often when she outs and contradicts herself, I think she probably has even less of an idea what TFW does and doesn't do with her time than we do. That, plus a refusal to recognize and admit the truth. lol

I have to wonder how much having his childhood exploited on national tv contributed to his rebellious, angry attitude and his sense of entitlement and how much is a result of the dysfunction in the family and having 3 family members with medical conditions and who are so different in stature from you. While I think he's a bright, yet troubled young man, I feel sympathy for him that he's had to grow up in the pubic eye because of his parent's decision to exploit their family on tv. I'm not by any means making excuses for his atrocious behavior but just question reality tv's contribution.

Well, that's good to know. I wonder then if it is merely the intimidation factor that keeps people from begging out of reality t.v. when it gets to be too much?

When you look at how TLC went after Jon, it's not surprising that even if a participant were unhappy they would conclude it's just easier to stick it out.

And absolutely, no child should be put in that situation...ever.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Suzee I wonder the same. I think he's a good kid under there, going through some very difficult teen angst. I think he's got a heck of a lot of youngest child syndrome, and I think he has two parents who have coddled and babied him yet often neglected him. They both work very hard, long hours and are both stretched very thin between the show and the three other kids with needs. I do not think being on T.V. has helped, and he's been on since he was very young. He also lost his mentor a few years ago, the same escapes me. Mike maybe? Normal stature guy, he was one of their employees and the two of them were best buds. They were both in the pumpkin throwing equipment accident some time ago and were both fine. He passed away and I think Jacob felt like the father figure and mentor he really needed had abandoned him. I also think he feels left behind because now all the other three have moved out two of them out of state.

Also, he will go through life knowing that genetically he has a very good chance of having a little person child. That is something that needs to be explained to any girlfriends he has that might be leading to something serious. That is not the easiest thing to explain or deal with emotionally. I feel for the kid.

I'm kind of surprised it's true actually. I won't dispute that these are real twins who really did snuggle together. The twins I knew were always placed in the same crib together, especially when they were in very poor health in the beginning, and it helped them.

But as far as saying it's true that a one day old infant has the mental capacity to understand the gesture of putting their arm around their sibling, baloney. I do believe that newborn twins would take tremendous comfort in snuggling as close as possible as that's how they were in the womb, and that their health might even improve. I just don't believe they would understand the "arm around my sibling" gesture. They just know it feels better to be pressed up against this other body because that's all I've ever known. That is adults once again imposing their adult thinking and nonsense on little children.

Look at how Pioneer Woman does it. She has her latest book above the fold in the right banner. If you click on any post, even old ones, it's still there in the right banner. This is how you do it, and it's so simple to set up. There is no way to know how many sales she has missed just from being too lazy to do such a simple thing.

TFW's latest post is from over 3 weeks ago, which is a completely unacceptable time frame for any blog you're serious about. It's about Zorro. I had never read it before and I started to skim it...I'm shocked and appalled that the way Kate paints it, they were never intended to get that bird. They had gone into the pet store for something for Shoka and then saw the bird on an employee's shoulder. Next thing you know they're buying it!

For God sake, the last thing you need to do is take on the responsibility of such a complicated pet on IMPULSE. She really is 14 years old, isn't she? Only a 14 year old goes into a pet store for dog food and comes home with an exotic bird. ----------------------------------------

According to Kate's blog post, dated Nov.25, that is exactly what she did do. They first saw the bird in October. Then she says that she did research and they finally picked up the bird on Nov. 24.

From her blog:

"We found him “by accident” sometime back in October. Cara, Mady, Collin and I were at the pet store picking up some water conditioner for our beta fish, Fizzy and Finn."

"The more research I did on him, the more I decided that he’d be a great fit for our family! But, I carefully thought through this big decision and decided he’d be a great family gift for Christmas..Since the store wouldn’t officially hold him til Christmas, we made nearly weekly visits to see him until I had the research done and his cage and supplies ordered. Yesterday was the day for pick up so we all loaded up and very excitedly headed off to the pet store to pick Zorro up!"

I dislike Kate as much as anyone, but to be fair, she did say she went home and researched about the bird, and got him approximately a month after first seeing him. I don't know exactly what she researched, because she apparently hadn't read cautions(or is just not following them) about having the bird on your shoulder, head or chest, but she apparently did do some research. Of course, that is, if you believe what she writes.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

My mistake. She didn't launch into the part about doing research until after she started describing the bird and all his attributes, making it seem like now she was going into what it was like to have him at home. Which was about when I got bored and stopped reading lol. I really do hope she did tons of research on him and knows what she's doing.

She clearly has no impulse control. If she did, we wouldn't have seen her going nuts about the pizza on the RV trip. She would have waited and gone nuts after the cameras were off.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Harassment huh? That's rich coming from an organization that puts on a circus act in a bathtub every day while the adoring public shouts "Shamu Shamu". That's not harassment of those poor creatures?

They are wrong and lying. This IS representative of the public. According to Bloomberg news, their attendance is down so much this year the had to slash prices just to try to get people through the doors. At one point they were GIVING AWAY tickets FREE just to give the appearance of people coming through the doors. Their stock is dropping like a rock. The majority of the public has spoken. What they are doing to those creatures is wrong and must be stopped. Even little children have spoken, they do NOT want to go to these parks anymore even though for 10 years they have gone, because it is breaking their hearts.

I love too how much like many celebs in a PR mess, they refuse to address the actual concerns people have. What about the safety of the trainers? What about the health and happiness of the whales? Why are you fighting OSHA to continue to put your trainers in harm's way? Why have you been banned from almost all waters except Iceland? Instead they deflect, accusing people of harassment. They're animal abusers and I hope all those parks go under. I read some more about the wildlife rescue work they do. According to what I read, not a single dime of profit from the park goes to fund that. It's all government funded. So shut down the parks and have the government continue to fund their rescue efforts, fine. But those parks must close or at least get rid of their poor animals.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The thing is too if you look at the comments to most of the Seaworld articles, of which there are hundreds of thousands of comments, most of them seem like newbies to this mess. They sound concerned, credible, not radical.

In other words this is not some weird fringe group PETA type thing organized by some college hippies to take them down. It's just random people off the street, moms and dads, kids, average people, who either saw the documentary or read about it and were horrified and decided for themselves this must stop.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

OSHA ruled some time ago that trainers may not be in the water with the whales anymore. Sea World is in the process of appealing this.

It really does beg the question what are they going to do if they lose their appeal and OSHA says they cannot have trainers in the water with the whales anymore period?

So we're just going to watch the whales swim circles all day, maybe splash the audience a bit? There's no way the public is going to be much interested in that. The appeal of the shows was the interactions with the trainers, the jumps and dives and things.

It will transform the park and I hope this is what happens, because it could be a turning point here.

Posters there thought that perhaps TLC had something to do with silencing him.

As for the question of newborn twins intentionally putting an arm over a sibling --- they just don't have the muscle tone or strength to do that, nor the cognitive development. Sure, they may instinctively gravitate/move and cuddle next to each other, but they can't control their extremities at that age. I agree that "They just know it feels better to be pressed up against this other body because that's all I've ever known."

Here's an article about how the Florida Attraction Association is going to bat for SeaWorld, while SeaWorld stays basically mute. Who and what else does this remind you of?

http://www.digitaljournal.com/entertainment/op-ed-florida-attractions-association-battles-blackfish-effect/article/364120

The FAA calls the dissenters "radical extremists", and says "Unfortunately, a few radical extremist groups are attacking SeaWorld. CNN network, desperate for ratings, modified their all "news" format to air a skewed documentary denigrating SeaWorld."

The FAA also made a post on its FB and twitter stating "If you're a fan, Facebook friend or Twitter follower of any of the musicians who have cancelled, please politely tell them that you support SeaWorld and, if they care for animals, they should too."

The article then had this to say about SeaWorld:

"It is somewhat bizarre that bang in the middle of a particularly damaging PR crisis, the corporation that could and should possess the ability to defend itself, is lying down. Yet outside of a few carefully worded missives and statements, all requests for SeaWorld's "side of the story" have been consistently declined, rejected and ignored. It is perhaps easier to label everyone not in agreement with their perspective a radical activist.

So does SeaWorld have a credible answer for Blackfish the movie? If so, then it has not produced it yet. The company approach instead banks on reticence and ignorance and anticipates that the majority of media outlets — just like its many visitors, won't dig too deeply into either its history, or the inner workings of its operations."

Dairy? LOL! It's Derry!

Kate, gather up the volume of gifts that you have bought even though you're piecing and patching, head to the mall to the kiosk set up there, and have them wrap the things for you. Yes, you'll have to pay, but in this way you also get to pay back. The money goes to charity and it's a deduction if you keep a copy in your records. Moreover, the cost is minimal, and when you figure the cost of buying your own wrapping paper, time, and energy (and complaining), you'll break even, and there will be a nice contribution to the charity.

Apparently there is also controversy about the SeaWorld float in the upcoming Rose Parade - huge pushback from PETA and others.

I think the only thing TFW 'researched' was where to get the most expensive bird cage.

A pet shop bird cage isn't going to be good enough for the Gosselin children.

CNN repeatedly asked them to participate in the documentary and they refused. They have no right to say that it is skewed when they refused to participate. I read many of the witness statements and police reports available online about Dawn's death. Even then witnesses were complaining that Seaworld was lying about what they saw of Dawns death. An entire family saw it up close and were shocked that Seaworld was putting out statements that bore no resemblance to what they saw up close. They also said SW was rude and dismissive even though they were prime witnesses. I still have not heard them address the specific concerns that the documentary raised, backed by photos and video and eye witnesses. They just deflect and call people radicals. Point Dume is in a very conservative beach community, mostly business people and people who work for the university, a few celebs. Hardly radical.

SeaWorld's playing the victim card is about the worst PR move they could possibly make.
Deflection is a sure sign of guilt.
How about manning up and talking about WHY acts are canceling.
If I wasn't already getting to not like them a whole lot, this sure would do it.

I don't believe she did any research on the bird. Kate had been retweeting all about adversity etc Nov. 14th-17th, when she knew her court cases were falling apart she knew she had to distract the sheeple. Then she tries to distract by finally posting the halloween pictures and making and posting bagel pictures. On Nov. 19th she says Shoka went for a rare car ride.

Nov 21 she posts:

Just done w some EXCITING Christmas shopping--an early Christmas addition 2our family..oops..did I say addition?! #hard2keepitquiet #excited

She bought the bird on the 21st and picked him up on the 24th! She didn't visit for a month. She had to distract everyone from the case against Robert going south on the 27th! I believe she took Shoka to the pet store on the 19th and saw the bird, bought bird and cage on the 21st and picked the bird up on the 24th (probably after the kids got home from Jon's).

The same thing happened with the Macy's Thanksgiving parade, but the organizers didn't back down and the float was part of the parade.

Tucker's Mom - agreed. I'm already unhappy with the situation at Sea World, and their public response is only making me dislike and distrust them more and more. It's hard to believe they actually have the best interests of these creatures as their defining goal, when their actions say otherwise.

I wanted to say "thanks" for the heads up on Amazon's lightning deals and camelcamelcamel.
I've already got 2 lightning deals.
I bought a beautiful nativity scene in white teak, for our front yard Christmas display. Will collect more pieces when they go on sale!
I also just bought an outdoor thermal bowl for the critters in winter.
I also have a thermal bird bath that goes on the back deck rail whenever we get a freeze or lots of snow.

Tucker's Mom said...

ps... got the LAST thermal bowl too!

And of course, that lovely snotty hashtag "stay out". Isn't that her permanent response to the kids?

Re: Admin @126

Dwarfism is a dominant gene, each little person has only 1 copy of the mutated gene in the chromosome pair, and the other gene is normal. Inheriting 2 copies of the gene is fatal and results in stillbirth or death very shortly after birth. The gene can be inherited from a parent (like Zach) or a random mutation (like Amy), who then it passed it on to Zach, and only Zach. Amy and Matt each had 1 copy of the dominant dwarfism gene and 1 copy of the recessive normal gene. Together they had an equal 25% at each conception of producing a average-sized child (Jeremy, Molly, and Jacob) a little person like Amy (achondroplasia, like Zach), a little person like Matt, or a child with 2 copies that would be fatal. Many people would say they very are lucky(?) to have beaten the odds and produced 3 children without the dwarfism gene.

Jeremy, Molly, and Jacob do NOT have a higher chance genetically of producing a child with dwarfism. These 3 offspring only inherited the recessive (non-dwarf) gene from each parent, so they will only pass on the normal (non-dwarf) genes to their children. They have the same odds as the rest of the us non-little people of producing a child with a spontaneous mutation of the dwarfism gene, which is 1 in 15-40 thousand babies.

Zach has a 50% chance of having a child with dwarfism with an averaged-sized partner. If Zach was to have a child with another Little Person, the odds would again be an equal 25% chance of an average-sized, child with dad's type of dwarfism, child with mom's type of dwarfism, or a child with the fatal combination both genes.

Sorry for the genetics lesson rant, but I just wanted to point out that Jacob and his future partner don't have to be concerned about the odds of having children with dwarfism any more than the rest of the populace.

******
I don't believe 99% of what Kate writes, and I'm uncertain about the remaining 1%.

However, I imagine that if Kate actually does any sort of "research" into any subject, it's limited to picture books.

I dont think that any of the Roloff kids are well adjusted. The twins use to kill song birds and post pictures of it on the internet. Jacob has gone through a lot. Some of his most private moments have been on TV. Its clear that he would not be doing TV if he had a choice. I hope he can overcome all of the crap he has had to deal with as a child.
*******
I agree Andrea. The only one that appears well-adjusted is the middle child, the daughter. However, I would not be surprised to learn that she's the type that just carries everything inside, and feels it's her duty to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders. She seems to keep her head down, do well in school, and I hope she can escape that environment when she reaches adulthood.

The one I have always felt most sorry for is Jacob, the youngest. It was always clear to me that neither of his parents paid him much attention, and the mom once admitted ON TV, FOR THE WHOLE WORLD TO KNOW, that they had him in the hope he would be a little person like Zach.

I was never able to move beyond that when I thought of Amy and Matt after that - to me, that is really unhealthy, but worse to publicly admit it and let not only your youngest know but the whole world.

I don't admire either parent, and I think the "normal" twin is a spoiled, pampered brat. Zach seems to have little motivation or drive (probably because he was babied all his life as well), middle daughter is hopefully getting a good education and the heck outta there, and that leaves the ignored child Jacob, who not surprisingly, has acted out time and again just for some attention from his parents.

A real mess.

Oh waaa waaa. Unless she's wrapping cinder blocks it shouldn't be giving the de-ager a backache. If it's such a tough job she should have set up that gift wrapping area as suggested by her basement organizers.

And what's with "santas busy"? According to her there is no Santa. She sure knows how to suck the merriment out of the season.

About the twin babies... That tiny little arm looks pretty hyper-extended to me. I doubt that a preemie could get his bitty shoulder to move that well without help. The picture is precious and the story is very touching. No doubt both babies benefited from the closeness, however, I still don't believe someone didn't place the little arm over the other baby.

Most likely, the only research Kate did regarding the bird was searching for a bird cage and accessories that fit in with her décor.

I thought they didn't DO Santa even in jest! Why doesn't she wrap as she buys- as each daily Amazon box arrives lol Would be easier too, if she kept a list for each child to make things even.she's so not-organized!

Which, when you think about it, is rather cruel. They are such delicate little things. If they did that just to capture a photo, it's a little disturbing.

I'm not so sure that Kate has much of a sense of interior decorating. She still has those draperies, and red checked curtains hanging at the windows that were there when they bought the house. The only thing I've seen in recent photos that has been added is the wine rack!

If she's as physically fit as she claims, runs on the treadmill, does yoga and uses her ab-omizer (or whatever it is), should her back hurt? Doesn't it hurt when she runs? I'm not a runner (except running around after kids and on errands), so I really don't know. I do know that my back was hurting while wrapping gifts, so I solved that problem by sitting at the dining room table and doing it that way. No more backaches. It's really not rocket science.

I thought she bought the cage at the same pet shop where she got the bird. She said she ordered it, which is quite possible, because often shops don't carry the large cages that are needed for parrots. They mostly sell the smaller cages for lovebirds, finches, parakeets, and canaries.

Gift wrapping is available on many Amazon purchases. If she opted for that they would come pre-wrapped with gift tags.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Complaining about having too much to wrap? Does TFW have the remotest sensitivity to the fact that some people would love to
have that problem? People who are -- really and truly -- "piecing and patching" to give their children a happy holiday on limited resources? She already said the bird was a Christmas gift. But there are still more gifts to wrap x8? And don't forget whatever grifts - er, I mean, gifts -- the flock will undoubtedly send. If you can afford that lifestyle for your family, that's wonderful. But to represent yourself as a struggling single mom with a purse full of bills, when there is every evidence to the contrary, is disingenuous and tiresome. Oh, and obnoxious.

You're right about that. I'm not even sure it qualifies as any kind of thinking. It's more like drooling, slobbering and lusting, coming up with anything to worship her idol, even if it makes no sense at all to any rational thinking person, adult of otherwise.

Melissa NV said...

Everything in Milo's life revolves around Kate. She sees a picture of twins, and compares them to Cara and Mady, and she's SURE Kate's seen camaraderie between them.

It's not only pictures of babies -- it's also animals. What does she do? Search the internet for photos and then somehow ties them in with something Kate has done? It's ridiculous.
