"I'm supposed to teach them life"

Five documentaries about education not to be missed

With so many of us snowed in or on lockdown, we thought it would be a great time to highlight some absorbing documentaries to keep you warm!

The educational system documentary. Despite all the bad press about schools today, many filmmakers have been steadfastly creating documentaries that highlight some of the most compelling stories out of our schools and from our remarkable teachers and kids. Some of these films may shock you, others move you to tears. All of them will give you hope.

Here are our top five favorites:

5. The Great Cafeteria Takeover.

A group of teens and pre-teens post-Katrina dismayed at the appalling quality of cafeteria food sets out to actually change it. (HBO.)

4. Spellbound

Follow super-spellers as they spend every waking moment preparing obsessively for the 1999 National Spelling Bee. Oddly as tense as any thriller, you will agonize over every letter right along with them.  (Netflix, Amazon.)

3. American Teacher

Profiling four extraordinary teachers as they give everything of themselves for very little pay or accolades to educate our kids. (streaming Netflix, Amazon.)

2. Pressure Cooker

Coming in at a very close second place is Pressure Cooker, about a no nonsense culinary arts teacher, Wilma Stephenson, who pushes inner city Philadelphia high schoolers to cook their butts off. It pays off when they routinely win competitions and scholarships (her class has won over half a million in scholarships since she started the program). She makes no bones about calling her students "ghetto" when they are not performing up to par, while in the next breath telling them she loves them. And, you soon realize, she truly does. It's heartwarming to see kids learn far more about themselves and their own capabilities than they ever do about soufflĂ©, thanks to one teacher who doesn't settle for "just good enough." (streaming Netflix, Amazon.)

1. To Be and to Have

Perhaps the opposite of Wilma Stephenson and her tough love, soft spoken French teacher Georges Lopez is gentle, patient and kind. He guides his one-room schoolhouse of all ages through lessons on penmanship, omelet flipping, and working together in harmony. In one particularly moving scene, he brings a stoic school bully to silent tears as he talks to him calmly about how his words and actions are hurting others. We find out some time later, the boy's father is in a serious battle with cancer.  But, that's no excuse for Lopez. "Sickness is a part of life," Lopez tells him as they chat together under a tree. His simple words somehow seem to bring the child comfort.

In nearly every conversation he has with his students, he asks for their thoughts and opinions on the matter, and the children show him tremendous respect in return. When he asks his younger students what they want to be when they grow up, not surprisingly, many of them say teachers. Aptly dubbed by some viewers as a "Hymn to Teaching," this gradual unfolding of a year in the life of one very special educator and his class is an absolute work of art. (The only sad part about the film, is that due to the unexpected massive success of the film, Lopez said he and his students felt exploited, and that fame traumatized some of his students.)  (Netflix, Amazon.)

I love the picture of the teacher who is leaning on the table. The look on her face says
that she really SEES that child. Often a main complaint of children is that nobody really saw them in the hurriedness of family life and school. I know of several students who have lousy family lives but can talk to their teacher or a former teacher. God bless teachers who are there for the children. Truly, where would we be without them?

I'm still trying to figure out if anything she says in her blog is true. I can kind of see that she would do 10-12 loads of laundry per week. I don't think that sounds extreme, considering that she most likely washes their uniforms on a daily basis...these are not your standard plaid jumpers, skirts, dress slacks, etc., that can go a week or more without washing. They wear khaki pants and white or maroon shirts, and I bet those pants and white shirts can only go a day or so without washing. White shirts and stains go hand in hand! Added to that would be underwear and socks, and all of that adds up.

Everything else spewed forth within that blog should just be taken with a grain of salt. Kate is the Great Exaggerator.

Kate needs to be thanking her lucky stars those are not wool jumpers that have to be dry cleaned and cotton blouses that have to be ironed. My friends at Catholic school had those issues to deal with.

Oh, wait! Didn't Kate grift a boatload of Quilted Northern awhile back? There was quite
a squall about it.

Great suggestions! I'll need to sit down this weekend and start checking them out.

My sister forwarded this to me. It's from a divorce judge written in 2001 about how he feels about children and co-parenting.

fidosmommy, yes, she did. There was such an outrage about it Northern did a press release about it. It was funny how you said boatload and squall. Reminded me of her canceled cruise~ haha

Sorry, I havent posted lately. I am back in the hospital again, even in worser shape, but I am doing better. My BP is causing the dr. to evalute if I can dialyize each day. That has me really scared, you have to dialyize. because I have a grandbaby boy named Owen that is coming May 14 and I am scared that I am not even going to be here to even get to see him.

Please pray for me. It makes me sick that kate gets away with all her meaness, but she will pay one day. Hope she is prepared for the big blizzard. I guess now the kids will be shoveling snow. Or according to kates BS meter, will it be the opposite, we didn't get snow to shovel. I wonder if the handy man hauled off all the big trees that she lost that were lined up and down the driveway!

fidosmommy said...

lukebandit, I will pray that you not only get to greet Owen on May 14, but that you will be there to celebrate birthdays to come with him.
I know how frightening it is (believe me, I know) and I pray for your physical and emotional wellbeing.

I guess Kate's kids didn't get that HUGE breakfast this morning. Says she got kids ready and in car in 9 minutes after over sleeping. Yeah RIGHT!!!

I kid you not,we overslept this am until 6:47am(usually in car at 6:48) & had kids in car ready at 6:56 am..have no idea how but we made it!

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Lead foot, perhaps? I guess they didn't wake up to snow. So much for a nice breakfast. kk doesn't have to bother getting dressed. I just can't see getting 8 kids up and in the bbb in 9, count 'em 9 minutes, unless she made them dress in the car and eat a granola bar. Did they have the time to take care of the usual morning hygiene or even use the toilet? I don't even want to imagine the yelling that went on. Wonder which one of the kids woke her up?

NJGal51 said...

I'm sure most (all) of the kids were up and ready to go and Kate was the one that overslept. I'll bet they had to draw straws to see who was going to have to go in and wake her up.

Totally OT - I updated my iPad and my iPhone software (iOS 6.1 or someting like that)yesterday and all my blogs have reverted back to web view. YEA!!

Kate’s latest blog…I see she is still spinning tall tales. . The stuff about their breakfast routine…can anyone say exaggerated, boring & in overdrive for attention/freebies?

Bacon is a rare treat, according to her. It is also expensive nowadays and I do not believe one bit that she would buy that much bacon and let them eat it EVERYDAY. That’s gross. I think she said last Valentine’s Day breakfast had turkey bacon but still gross to eat it every day if that is what she is claiming. She has said many times she gets up at 5”30 or 5:50, depending on which interview/tweet/blog you read and that is not just enough time to cook that amount of food in a short span of time. Bacon takes a long time to cook, usually about 20 minutes in the oven, so why would she say they eat that for breakfast on school days? Don’t you know she has to primp herself too before they leave the house so she is always photo-ready! In reality, breakfast for her has to be made quickly and eaten quickly. I remember seeing them eat oatmeal and half of a banana. I don’t believe she would spend 30 minutes making breakfast when she has to bark orders at them at the same time. The eggs would burn, LOL! Not sure what they were drinking. But I have to say the amount of juice they drink is disgusting. All that sugar and preservatives in their little bodies.

Also didn’t she say at one point they only got a half sandwich for their school lunches? I think she had a picture of a half sandwich? Now it’s a full sandwich?

The TP, oh my! So exaggerated and over the top! They are gone from 7 am to 4:40/5:00 pm so who is using that much TP in one day? Unless they are using it for tissue or other things, she is really inflating the numbers.

Remember when she tried to say ‘thank you’ to Bell & Haven when she said she brought 200 pounds of chicken one day? So lame…what was that about? Did they supply her with it or was she trying to promote them in order to get more stuff?

I also did not really like it that she is rubbing it in her fans’ faces that she has two or five of everything. ‘My two dishwashers’. What a ego trip that blog was on. I noticed she got on twitter last night after her blog was posted so she was ready for the fans to praise her, pat her back for the best blog ever and what an amazing mom she is! BARF. I notice on twitter she is not asking other mothers how THEY do it and does not take the initiative to start a conversation that has nothing to do with herself or the children.. She always waits until someone sends her a question/comment then she will blah on. It’s all about how SHE does it. It’s all about her as usual.

OMG. 95% of the comments to Kate's latest "bog" are negative. Regular moms are calling her out on her lies. The picture she posted was taken Oct. 2011.

This comment was insightful and has been my thought all along:

Nonmember comment from PAmomma4 on Feb 7, 2013 at 8:14 PM
Well, I could tell you that I know for a fact that Kate Gosselin has "helpers" who do her grocery shopping for her. My daughter and her friend work at the store and they could tell ya plenty. It's a shame this site is allowing her to lie so much, and about such silly stuff.

Whoppers in her "bog":

A normal breakfast consists of a dozen and a half of eggs, about one to two packs of bacon, an entire loaf of bread, and a two-liter bottle of apple juice, diluted to 50 percent juice and 50 percent water.

Lunch is another loaf of bread, half a pound of meat or more and the same amount of cheese, a 32-ounce tub of yogurt, an entire family-size bag of chips or pretzels, one to two large cucumbers (sliced), a 16-ounce container of hummus, eight home-baked cookies, 16 juice boxes, a one-pound bag of grapes, and an entire box of granola bars for school snack.

Three to four rolls of TP a day, two rolls of paper towels a day.

She runs her two dishwashers twice day (and someone commented they didn't know that you could wash paper plates).

For dinner, she cooks two to four pounds of meat, one and a half pounds of pasta, and three pounds of vegetables for dinner. Dessert wouldn't happen here without an entire gallon of ice cream and, of course, eight sugar cones!

Oh yeah, she worries about paying her bills and has her "well defined arms" from her daily lugging of bulk sized food.

FYI said...

I call BS on Kate's tweet. If anything, the "we" probably means her, not the kids. She's rushing around to get the kids in the car, and she actually notes the exact time, to the exact minute?

"usually in car AT 6:48"? Not BY, or AROUND, but AT? Does she set a timer every day so that they are in the car at exactly 6:48? By the way, nice of you Kate, to let the crazies know exactly when you leave to take the kids to school.

Kate probably was disappointed that there was school today, and lost out on her chance to do the poor, woe is me act that comes with being "snowed in", so she had to make something up to prove that once again she is the "Supermom" of all supermoms. She's probably sitting reading her twitter timeline, basking in the glow of all the tweets telling her how wonderful she is. Oh wait, she NEVER sits.

If the story is true--I would give more credit to her kids, than I would to Kate.

Don't the twins at least have alarms set too? Doesn't 'ring' true!

LB said...

I wonder if this is why Kate is now diluting the juice...per guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics for juice consumption be limited to to 4-6 ounces a day for children one to six years old and 8-12 ounces a day for children seven to 18 years old. Diluting the juice with water is fine because it helps to decrease the actual amount of juice consumed by the child and decreases sugar loads that may lead to loose stools.

Interesting face about excess comsumption of juice that it causes loose stools. It also causes less hunger as sugar fills you up. I saw that some of the juice bottles had over 20-30 grams of sugar. Whoa. Is she still going to stand behind Juicy Juice?

**********************

But you don't know that this is true, just like the comments on the previous blog from a "parent" at the school was very doubtful.

There is no way that, in addition to everything else in the lunches, she uses a family size bag of potato chips in their lunch. Someone pointed out that a gallon of ice cream is eight pints. Try getting one pint of ice cream on one small sugar cone. Not happening.

She needs to THINK before she puts forth this nonsense.

LB said...

She did pack a half sandwich and posted a picture of it on her personal blog dated...wait for it...August 28, 2012. So they were eating half sandwiches for lunch all that time. Picture also had the 'surprise' bag of chips from that chip company who Kate tweeted about sending them a surprise school lunch package. I do not want to mention the name as name is probably trademarked.

Melissa NV said...

"Don’t you know she has to primp herself too before they leave the house so she is always photo-ready!"

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

For whom? The paps who never show up? Have you ever seen photos of her at the bus stop? No make-up, cap, jeans...no primping involved! What you see is what you get!

"Also didn’t she say at one point they only got a half sandwich for their school lunches? I think she had a picture of a half sandwich? Now it’s a full sandwich?"

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Kids's appetites do increase as they grow. Hopefully now they are getting a full sandwich.

"Bacon takes a long time to cook, usually about 20 minutes in the oven, so why would she say they eat that for breakfast on school days?"

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Here's the thing. She didn't say that they eat it on school days. She may have implied that, but that's not what she said. She said "a normal" breakfast. Normal to her may not be on school days, but on weekends. She carefully worded it, thinking she may not have been called out on it. For all anyone knows, they could be eating cereal, yogurt or muffins on school days. However, even if they do eat the eggs, toast and bacon on school days, it's possible that she (or the nanny) would have time to prepare that. She gets up at 5:30 and the kids are on the bus at 7:48. That gives her an hour to make eggs and bacon. It can be done.

NJGal51 said...

If I ate as much as she (allegedly) feeds those kids I'd be packing on the pounds. Breakfast for me today was Quaker Oatmeal Squares (in the new 110 calorie individual pouches - soooo very convenient) and some yogurt. Lunch will be a chicken salad sandwich on pumpernickel. Dinner is still up in the air. My husband and I go out for breakfast on the weekends and if I have a full breakfast I'm not really hungry come lunch time.

Did Kate even remember that she posted the picture of that sad Valentine's day breakfast last year that was supposed to be such a special treat for the kids? Pictures don't lie but Kate does. Every time she says something like...."I cook 1 1/2 dozen eggs and 2 packs of bacon every morning" what she doesn't say is "In my dreams or in my fantasy life".

Paper Plates Forever! Yay! said...

Based on the comments being 99% negative on her bog, it won't be long now..... Can't stand her using the words "blessed" to have two dishwashers. Kate, you should have shown more gratitude years ago. That was always my beef with you. Damage control is not going to work now. You blew it.

FYI said...

Now she says she has a sick child at home. In the "morning rush" did she leave that child home alone?

She's ramping up the drama--probably making notes on what she's going to say during the snowstorm.

"Blessed" to have two dishwashers, she said this???

Oh Lord. How about blessed to have eight healthy, happy children, a roof over your head, and apparently so much money coming out of your ears you'll never have to lift a finger again except maybe to tap out a few bogs.

Why is two dishwashers necessary anyway, sounds like double the maintenance and repairs to me not to mention loss of storage space. If you have so many dishes you can't wash them all with just one load (really??), why not just do the first load after dinner, unload it, and refill it. Mine takes two hours, many take much less. The first load would be done by 9 at the latest, then unload, reload, run a second and go to bed. Unload in the morning. Easy. I just don't get this.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Paper Plates I think you're right. I don't think any of the "non-fans" have to say a single thing to The Stir, their regulars are taking care of it. If she can't even fool the everyday woman on the street, she's in big time trouble. I kind of got the sense on CC she was fooling a lot more casual observers. That's just not the case this time. These women are too smart. The Stir really underestimated them.

TLC stinks said...

Melissa NV, I agree that the commenter on The Stir saying that Kate has shopping helpers could be doubtful, but it makes sense to me. The only times Kate has been seen loading groceries was for a pap shot, and there was not the loads of bags you expect with the amount of food she claims to feed those kids. If you happened to catch the episode where she and Jon shopped at Costco, they bought a ton of groceries and that was when the kids were little (and I bet that was the last time she did that because TLC probably paid for all that stuff because it was filmed). You see, Jon was the helper and I bet Kate did not lift a finger to unload their van.

FYI said...

Regarding her tweet about getting up late, someone pointed out on twitter that there are 9, count 'em 9, people in that house. What is the likelihood that they ALL overslept?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Also does anyone else take issue with someone who pimped out their kids to get what they wanted claiming they are simply "blessed"? I'm sorry but that is not BLESSED. That all happened at your own doing, under your watch, under your hand. God had nothing to do with it. It seems to me that is removing your active role in this whole mess and pretending this all just magically came from the creator. I don't think so.

Blessed is the hundreds of volunteers that descended on their doorstep nine years ago to help out. Blessed it not I pimped my kids out for five years now I'm a millionaire. That's, you pimped your kids out and now you can afford luxuries.

FYI said...

Admin-yes, she said "I run my dishwashers up to twice a day each (I am blessed with two!)

She really is on the "pity me" kick right now. With the bog, the oversleeping, the sick child at home, etc. I wonder if this means that Robert's book is going to be re-released very soon, and she's trying to remind everyone how hard her life was and still is.

TLC stinks said...

Yeah, she says "blessed" to have two dishwashers because they were FREE, courtesy of TLC. Admin, you are right. Who needs two dishwashers? Is she so lazy that she can't unload it and then reload and run in the evening? Oh, that was a silly question.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Mady and Cara strike me is quite responsible and dedicated, with their iphones they should be setting their own alarms by now. That's a life skill to start teaching kids anyway. I was setting my own alarm by nine or ten, even though my parents got up too and could have woken me. It's good to just learn how to get yourself up. Part of growing up. Kids in college who never learned this life skill sometimes miss their first class trying to figure out something so basic.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Also another point about two dishwashers, say you haven't unloaded it yet but you need a spatula. Happens to most people all the time. You open the clean dishwasher and fish it out.

When you have two dishwashers it strikes me as extra effort and wasted time trying to remember which dishwasher you put the spatula in, not seeing it right away, searching the other one, maybe not seeing it there either.....then a minute later finally remembering you tucked it on the top rack at the back in Dishwasher TWO.....I'm sorry, WAY too much of a hassle.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I am assuming the two dishwashers came with the house. It seems to me the point of that is when you are entertaining massive amounts of people, hiring a chef, at huge events like a wedding or engagement party or gala charity. Then yeah it might be helpful. I really don't think it was designed with the idea you would need to use two day to day.

Just Down The Road said...

She's ramping up the drama--probably making notes on what she's going to say during the snowstorm.

-------------

There is no snowstorm...perhaps an inch or so predicted tonight, if that. But with her exaggerations, she'll likely claim at least a foot.

FYI said...

I don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but in her bog she states:

"Sure, it's extremely stressful as a single mom of eight to ensure that the budget is balanced, and I'll also admit, there are some sweaty moments at the bill paying table when things aren't what they should be, but isn't that my job as a mom? To take the stress and cover over it with a smile to let my kids enjoy their childhoods just as they should without worry? Yep. It sure is! I consider it a challenge and a privilege to successfully run the house that my kids enjoy!"

To let her kids enjoy their childhoods without worry? So many memories of what she said to her children on the show come flooding back--too many to list. Not only that--but does "Globegate" ring a bell?

____________________________

I’m sure she has ‘helpers’. My problem with her blogs are that she leaves that detail out along with many other details and leads everyone to believe she does it all by herself. There is no way she would be running a household by herself without an extra set of eyes, ears, hands and legs..she will kick and scream if she had to give that up. Someone has to get the kids up, make sure they are getting dressed instead of playing with their toys or getting distracted, settling fights, getting their school bags ready, etc while preparing breakfast. I know this because I’m a parent myself. There is no way I would stay the kitchen the entire time without checking on my family and I have to get myself ready all at the same time. For myself, I require 45 minutes to 1 hour to shower, comb my hair—I have really long hair!--get dressed for work, make my coffee and oatmeal, pack my lunch (Sorry, I’m not Kate who packs hers the night before), fill the sink with dirty dishes to be washed when I get home and/or take a load in or out of the washer/dryer. In that big house, it will take a good amount of time to go up and down.

I invite you to try her morning routine and see if you can get breakfast made, children dressed & gone to the potty, brushed their teeth and fixed the girls’ hair all in a hour? Please do.

If you have been reading about the food portions she wrote about over the years, you will know she uses the minimum amount required to make a meal instead of making more than enough to make sure everyone can get second servings. I don’t think they have leftovers very often, if she evens does that. One of her recipes, she said she used only 1 box! Or was it a box and half? I remember she said she used 2-3 chicken breasts for the children..I think that was in 2011. Not per child but to be shared by ALL. That means the children only gets one serving of maybe a third of a chicken breast each instead of 2 or 3 or even 4 helpings like Kate claimed once. That is not a lot of protein. Unless she masks the small serving of chicken with a boatload of veggies, I have to disagree with her idea of making that kind of meal she thinks the children actually enjoys eating.

I was referring to past pap shots, so no need to get defensive. On the first day of school some years ago, she was in FULL MAKE-UP, primped out big time. You used to see her in full make at the bus stop after school. Thank god there have been no pap shots at the bus stop in a long time, there is no need to stalk the children in that manner.

FYI said...

Admin-I don't think the dishwashers came with the house. Remember, the kitchen renovation? She got all new appliances, probably including the 2 dishwashers.

My grandkids are 6 and almost 9. They have alarms and get themselves up every morning and get dressed for school. My daughter has ONE dishwasher, and they often help empty it.

So I'm sure those kids do a lot--but Kate just wants the credit for it.

I was thinking about the blog, or bog. Does The Stir really care if 90 percent of the comments are negative? Would it be better if nobody commented? Even though the comments are not favorable to Kate, it means that people are reading the blog. Isn't that what the site wants -- people to read it? Do they really care if Kate is the target of so many negative comments?

I would certainly hope by now that the kids can get dressed, go to the potty, brush their teeth and comb their hair on their own while she makes breakfast. If they can't, there's something wrong! In fact, we don't know that the sitter or nanny doesn't make breakfast for them.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Oh she is not claiming she is bullied, that is insane. Speaking out about child exploitation and abuse is not "bullying." Questioning what you see is not bullying. The bottom line is she wants to be able to do and say what she wants without anyone questioning it. It doesn't work that way whether on the internet or in real life.

I think it's fine for her to share about bullying when she was a child, fair enough. But to try to say that tabloids and internet comments "bully" her is insulting to people who really are bullied. And, she can simply make it go away by leaving the public eye. There is no simple solution for people who really ARE bullied.

What if what is said or written about a person is backed up by actual footage or their actual words? What if when she tries to explain what "really" happened, we catch her in a lie? Like when she tried to explain that the kids wanted to leave the Alaska campground, when the video footage AND Sarah Palin and her dad's interview made it crystal clear they wanted to stay?

I mean this is a pretty dumb philosophy. I've never met either of the 2012 presidential candidates but I had no problem forming my opinion based on what both of them said. I used my ears and eyes, read, and draw conclusions.

By her "bullying" definition, Obama is "bullied" because around the country every day people who disagree are speaking out about it as they have for centuries. But I doubt Obama would say this is bullying. All this is is someone putting themselves out there, and people exercising their right to question it. That's America, deal with it.

I just can't buy that logic. If you put yourself out there are much as she has and made a career out of her personal life, it's fair game. Obviously some of the twitter comments are over the top but it's very simple to block them. The vast majority of people who have ever said anything negative about her have done so without bullying her.

Didn't Kate say that 5 a.m. comes much too soon for her? If she gets up at that time, puts on a pair of pants and sweatshirt and starts breakfast, I would think that an hour and a half is enough time to make breakfast, "feed" the kids and get them in the car by 7:45. I doubt that she supervises their dressing, bathroom needs and teeth brushing. If there is a morning helper, maybe Kate cooks while the helper oversees their morning routine, or vice-versa.

BioRhythms develop upon birth (actually prior), we all have that built in clock.

The kids or most of them more than likely wake up on their own around the usual time every day. Of course waking up and getting the morning routine under way are two very different things. But in that house, I would suspect the kids are in motion and kk sleeps as late as she can. The kids are old enough to go through the pre school prep.

Remember the time when J&K put one of the young tups on the basement couch(for more than 1 night)to sleep...errr I mean contain her from waking up the other kids at odd hours?....WhoTH puts a small child in the basement and closes the door overnight? That room was in total darkness until Jon opened the door and turned the lights on. What if there had been a fire, a burglary, or the child became sick or injured, ect? Sadly, Jon showed little concern for the child, more so for the cameras) IMO...just he and kk not wanting to be disturbed by the kids coming downstairs early in the morning. It was disgusting behavior from both.

I wake up before 5a.m. every day...I usually get up, sometimes I may doze off for a few more zzzz's.

Why does Ms Organized, pack-lunches-the-night-before have to get up at 5 to get out the door by almost 7? Two hours? Like others have said, once the kids are up they should be self-sufficient while you get breakfast on the table. I must confess I still have to get my daughter up even at 16. I got her an alarm that rolls on the floor and screams and she still sleeps through it. When I then tell her to get up it's "five more minutes mom". But anyway, her bus comes at 6:30! Kate always made it sound like they had to leave the house by 5 something...another exaggeration.

When a person puts themselves out there for public scrutiny and then whines about not being liked for what others see and have called them out on, and then goes off and publicly calls it 'bullying' well, my opinion is that this cheapens the whole concept of bullying.

To me, bullying is when you take a private citizen who just wants to live their life as they see fit and someone or a group of someone's come around and disrupt that person's life with hateful rhetoric and action.

Bullying and Kate go hand in hand. She IS a bully. How many times have we seen her bully Jon into doing something, pushing and grabbing her children when they don't do what she wants, calling people names, rolling her eyes, heaving a heavy disgruntled sigh, calling the former house owner 'filthy', complaining about her 'friends', etc.

She has cheapened this whole term and the cause by latching on to it.
Her entire 'profession' consists of putting herself out there for public consumption. Most people don't like what they find when they see her. That's not bullying, that's opinion. When she writes untruths and others call her on it, it is NOT bullying.

If she doesn't want to have adverse comments made about her, then she needs to find a new career.

I come from a background where I positively KNOW what bullying is and how it can damage a person. Kate has sunk lower than low in my opinion of her.

I completely agree with this definition. Very good.

You don't get to be an authority on motherhood as your career, then cry bullying when someone questions it. Just like you don't get to be a politician and cry bullying when people disagree with you, nor do you get to be a doctor and have your patients seek out a second opinion, nor do you get to be a chef and expect people to always like your cooking.

If this kind of thing is not for you, there are many other things you can do in your life that will avoid criticism.

I don't believe Kate gets up at 5:00 a.m., cooks a full breakfast for all the kids, packs lunches and what not, every morning. Again, the BS meter goes off whenever she pretends she is an active mom, because she hasn't got a clue.

First of all, if you have one child or eight - the smart thing to do to save time in the morning is pack lunches the night before. Then all you have to do the next morning is pull it from the fridge and put it into the backpack. Takes less than a minute.

Second, I never was fed nor do I feed my own child a full on breakfast before school. Some typical breakfast fare over the years: breakfast with milk; peanut butter toast with a glass of milk; a half banana and half bagel with cream cheese; etc. All quickly fixed and consumed. Once my son hit middle school, he wasn't hungry in the mornings, so I would just grab a granola bar and take it in the car and offer it to him halfway to school. Hey, it's something!

Another time-saving tip - lay out tomorrow's clothes the night before. Then when child gets up, the clothes are right there. Takes my son a minute to change from PJ's to a t-shirt and jeans each morning.

I'll admit to the morning schedule at our house. I get up at 6:50 a.m. and throw on sweats. Give son his first wake up call. Put son's prepacked lunch in backpack, and his charged up cell phone. Brush teeth, make bed. 7:00 a.m. - tell son it's time to get up, he begs for 5 more minutes. Reheat coffee from night before, sip bleary eyed, grab a granola bar from pantry. 7:05 - insist son get up. He dresses, brushes hair and teeth, grabs packpack and we try to leave by 7:15 or 7:20 for school. That's one half hour Kate.

If I decided to fix a full breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs, I'd have to add, at most, another half hour.

I had lots of siblings, we were between one year to two years apart. But my mom never needed to get up two hours before departure time to get us ready to go. In fact, once we moved from grade school to junior high, we were expected to take care of ourselves in the morning (at Cara and Mady's age). As usual, in her efforts to present herself as this super mom, Kate falls flat on her lying face.

Here's the thing too. A certain amount of criticism from other children is good for kids. It helps to know what behavior is socially acceptable, it helps to shape and guide you. Same with adults.

For instance if a kid is constantly humming, and other kids start saying, Timmy that is so annoying you are such a pest ugh we don't like you! Timmy starts to learn not to do annoying things like that and the criticism stops. Are those kids bullying? In my opinion, absolutely not. Those kids are helping Timmy to learn socially acceptable behavior. If he doesn't break his annoying humming habit now and realize that others are irritated now, he will do it when he is an adult at his job and annoy the whole office and end up on sh&t lists. There is nothing wrong with other kids putting him in his place all.

If we remove all "criticism" like that how will kids have the first clue what's acceptable behavior and what's not? Same with Kate, there is nothing wrong with saying hey, it's wrong to work your kids without paying them, hey, it's wrong to exploit your kids. All that speaking out caused real change for the better.

This is not to discount real bullying, when a kid is innocent or can't help it. That's a different beast. I think there is an incredibly fine line with bullying and I wouldn't want to be a teacher having to deal with it, decide what if anything has gone too far and what is actually helping a kid, but Kate is SO FAR away from that line it's absurd to even pretend she is anywhere across it.

I agree that the "two" dishwashers were part of the kitchen reno and I bet she screamed bloody murder for two instead of one. Frankly, I thought the original kitchen was already nice enough but Kate complained and TLC complied.

She also bitched about the laundry room and that was renovated too although not filmed. Let's see, she got new furniture, new kitchen, new laundry room, new fencing, renovated the pool, new vehicles, landscaping, etc. And all this for a very nice house to begin with. Yep, our dear Kate is never satisified.

I just received the following e-mail from Rep Tom Murt (PA):

Child Exploitation Awareness Bill Passes

The House voted on an important child protection bill that would require school districts to incorporate a Child Exploitation Awareness Education program into existing curriculum.

House Bill 19 would require the Department of Education to develop an age-appropriate child exploitation awareness education program for grades K-8.

The curriculum would focus on such topics as the definition of child exploitation, types of child exploitation, including abduction and sexual abuse, awareness of warning signs of child exploitation, and strategies for students to avoid potential exploitation.

The bill was endorsed by the state’s Task Force on Child Protection, which was formed in the wake of the Sandusky child sex abuse scandal to study the state’s laws and identify changes that could be made to better protect children.

The measure now heads to the Senate for consideration.

A hearty second on the recommendation for the documentary "To Be and to Have" - George Lopez' command of the one room schoolhouse, his ability to manage children of many ages and abilities, as well as negotiating life is exemplary.

Just be prepared: Your view of teachers might be influenced by M. Lopez!

After you see it, then read about the aftermath:

I was heartbroken to find out that the experience with the documentary ended poorly for Mr. Lopez and some of the children. Considering the tremendous commercial success of the documentary, it seems reasonable to compensate him.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/oct/03/film.france

My take: Once the work was being marketed in a fashion inconsistent with the contract under which the teachers and students operated... there should have been some consideration offered.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I'm sure there are many sides to the story, but according to Lopez, he and his students were mislead about the purpose of the documentary. He was told it was just to be an educational training type tool. He did not realize it was going to be some kind of main stream mass marketed documentary until afterward.

He sued in court but the court said because he went to the Cannes Film Festival and other media events he gave his implied consent for it to be mass marketed and can't turn around and sue later.

And yes that's wrong if he was mislead.

Isn't bullying a kid thing? I am not sure I have ever heard a grownup say that they are being bullied. She is probably defensive because of all the negative comments on her blog, with the math that just doesn't add up. The numbers are different but always inflated as though she really does not know the true figures. I don't believe that she gets up and makes bacon and eggs every morning, and if she does, it is for the look at all I do for you factor. This particular blog just really did not sit well with folks. They were posting pictures. She has always made everything seem harder that it either is or should be. Who in their right mind lugs 75 pound sacks of flour around all the time. The pioneer days are over. When it is all said and done do the kids really care if the bread comes from a bread machine or off the shelf? She could easily give them a bagel with cream cheese that they could eat in the car on the way to the bus. Didn't someone report to her that the kids were putting jackets over their heads and eating their lunch on the way to school in the mornings; not after having 3 pounds of bacon, 2 dozen eggs and a whole loaf from the bread machine they didn't. What those poor kids wouldn't give for some Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (you know you love it).

As far as getting up, everybody has to get up early, and get their kids off to school. When my son was younger, he had a problem getting up, because he sometimes didn't sleep well. I would put his clothes in the dryer, and just give them a bump, and they were nice and warm. I would take them and lay them over him on his bed and pull his feet out and slip warm socks on his feet (even in the summertime), He got right up, so he could get his clothes on while they were still warm. Most schools serve breakfast, but he had cereal, or toast and honey, and a glass of milk. He could get breakfast at school if he was still hungry. No big-E as we say.

As for myself getting up, I found that if I wake up at the same time every day, even if I go back to bed, I don't even need an alarm clock. My body is set for the coffee at that time.

Simplify and quit glorifying yourself for doing what we all do every day. Yes we know about the well-defined arms - who says that anyway? We are to believe it is from bringing in groceries and dragging 75 pounds sacks of flour and 300 pounds of meat in at 6-week intervals. What the 8 kids just stand watch? Five freezers, 2 dishwashers, bread machine, 2 washers and dryers. Everyone knows and nobody cares.

She just really needs some new material.

Like Fido said a key component is the imbalance of power. I agree. I don't think generally adults should be claiming bullying unless there is some kind of imbalance of power situation. A disabled adult, someone lower on the totem pole at work, etc. That's just not the case here.

Here is the key difference as well, the ability to quickly and efficiently end it, as Kate could. I would think part of the horror of bullying is you can't stop it. But Kate CAN.

I also recall she said they don't eat well so are hungry on the bus in the AM? They wear uniforms so that's not an issue- agree with Millicent, lay them out the evening before. We all have known the "exceptional" teacher, and although they may not have gotten accolades, many of these teachers need praise, as they really do want to make a difference in children's lives, and shaping their future.

I am going through a very tough time with a divorce, sale of our business and probable sale of a home I love and a wonderful community---basically dismantling a 32 year marriage. I think that there is a much brighter future ahead, but, right now, it is difficult to see past the challenges that are here today. All of my kids are having exciting lives with great partners and promising careers and they love and support me unconditionally. I am so very grateful for them (BTW Kate, you twit, that is a blessing.)

It is very sad that their father, who was really wonderful with them, has lost so much because of his choices--he has been enormously destructive in a rather spectacular way. I think that he is reaping what he sowed, and I need to steer way clear of trying to intervene on his behalf. I have to say that I feel more peaceful than I have ever felt, in the time we were together. Hopefully, time will bring healing to all of us.

Kate doesn't act like a victim.

If she was bullied as a child, I feel badly for her. No child deserves to be bullied.

As an adult, you create the world you live in. Kate has created that world that she lives in, and has not been a very kind person to anyone- unless it involves some kind of charity going her way.

My grandmother (may she rest in peace) used to always say, "love and you will be loved in return".

Kate's idea of love involves eternal slavitude to HER needs.

So, why would "spoiled, one-way Kate" expect people to love her unconditionally? People are sick of her, and her "needs".

Pity Party - 1/4 cup milk; 1/4 cup (real) butter and that dried orange cheese sauce cooked in a small pot and added to 1/2 of box of the cooked macaroni makes THE BEST macaroni soup ever! Calories be damned when it comes to needing the comfort of the "Blue Box". I love their new commercial where the father and son come in and see the littler girl working on an art project and all it says at the bottom is food not art.

A 37-year-old woman "scarred" from bullying? Really? And it started 'years' ago? Was she being bullied when she went to all those churches with her hand out? I wonder why she didn't say anything back then? Oh, that's right. She still had a 'reality' show, some relevancy, and money rolling in.

I think bullying is more along the lines of picking your babies up by their hair, or throwing them into their cribs. Wonder if they felt bullied?

And the 'bog' (insert an eyeroll)

Does Kate really think her kids won't grow up to read these things and realize she's not truthful? Or that they don't already? Or that parents and kids at that school don't read it? Wonder how many times the twins heard "You use how many rolls of toilet paper a day?!"

If Kate has the time to waste writing her 'bullyville' sob story, and her completely fabricated 'bog' - you'd think she'd spend some time writing something to refute the claims Robert Hoffman made about her in his book. Unless they are true of course ..

Here is the key difference as well, the ability to quickly and efficiently end it, as Kate could. I would think part of the horror of bullying is you can't stop it. But Kate CAN.

**********************************************

If she's so concerned with bullying and she thinks that the "haters" are carrying on a tirade against her, why not pull Twitter or make it private? Many have suggested that, but she refuses to do so. I think she needs the adoration from her fans, and that needs to be made public so the Twitter world can see it. It's not going to help feed her ego if it's private.

Kate is trying once again to reinvent herself. She tried Can Do Kate, MILF, Coupon Queen, Exercise Queen, and now wants to be the spokesperson for bullying. As I type that I remember once she tweeted that she would love to be the National Spokesperson for Bullying, didn't she? Is that what she wanted to work with FLOTUS on or was that exercise? Anyway, anyone else think she deliberately made yesterday's blog over the top with obvious exaggeration and triggers that she knew would generate a lot of negative comments in order to prove her bullying claim? And again with the "jealousy" stuff. Perhaps sometimes someone is mean to someone they are jealous of but it's just not the case with her. She just has a lot of unlikable qualities. I was a small, skinny redhead. I seriously doubt the boys that called me names in 5th grade were jealous of me. Oh, eonline has picked up her jealousy story and one of the comments is "you reap what you sow"

I believe she's hoping that this bullying article is going to get all the talk shows begging her to make an appearance to discuss bullying. However, I don't think anyone is going to take the bait.

By the way, one of the new girls on the show "Glee" is Bullyville's national spokesperson. How come her "good friend" didn't ask Kate to fill that gig.

Her bullying article is an FU to all that dislike her. She has declared war against the majority of people that know who she is. She has pretty much said that she WILL beat everyone. This is probably the WORST thing she could have done. I think people will be enraged at her now. Tonight is a rare pleasure to be home on a snowy night with my husband and my mother (she lives with us). My husband works nights but not Friday nights and I work Monday through Friday. So it's a nice cozy evening together while the weather outside is snowing and blowing. None of us have to be anywhere tonight or tomorrow.

We have a frozen pizza, that we paid for ourselves (with sale and coupon) in the oven, two glasses (for Sam Adams beer to go with the pizza) chilling in our one and only freezer. We'll watch some tv from anywhere was want since we don't have any blue tape on the floor indicating where we may and may not sit. Then in the morning, we'll get up and my husband will make coffee for us that we bought, not begged to get for free.

Then later I'll do laundry in our shared laundry room (we live in an apartment building). Although we do have the luxury of washers and two dryers (but it's a community laundry-so if someone is using them we'll just have to wait).

I'll take this small apartment with the one dishwasher, one fridge and freezer and community laundry over Kate's lonely McMansion (lonely because she drove everyone away, except the hired help).

Oh that's funny about the little girl locking herself up in the bathroom and then coming like what, I was doing my hair.

The Mac N Cheese soup I will have to try. My son's friend who stays with us a lot loves MacNCheese. I always stock up when he comes over. Oprah when she needs comfort she says to the world renowned chef who resides in her kitchen MAKE ME SOME MACNCHEESE a tub full and says he knows then that she has had a very bad day.

So it looks to me that she is not saying she was bullied as a child, but over the past 6 or 7 years to the present. That would be just about the time the gloves came off and people starting taking a hard look at the show and it wasn't pretty. Her behavior on the RV episode does not exactly coincide with someone who says they have been bullied but rather the other way around.

But, one thing I have to say about KT, she may not be wrapped right but she has street cred and will always be okay, in my opinion. She has almost a carnie type nature about her or gypsy flair and spends a great deal of time mapping out her future, whereas someone like me I live in the moment and my attitude pretty much got summed up when the postmaster asked me if I wanted to pay my box up for year. A year, NO! Who knows what will happen in a year. Some in line agreed and others were like but it's cheaper, I said I can't think that far ahead.

This spin, I agree, is a very well thot out pre-emptive plan of attack. Kate will say.. " I was bullied. It was all I knew. I did not know how else to treat my children. Having 8 kids is stressful. I was being bullied. I am a victim. You cant blame the victim. None of that ( outlined in Robert' s book) is my fault. My whole family is /are victims. "

I also have no respect for an organization who says " Tit for tat' Bully back ??? Yea, that will work? More likely get the crap beat out of someone. A child in PA right now is in a medically induced coma. He fought back and ended up with a broken nose and a concussion which has led to serious seizures!

This all absolutely sickens me. Taking a very serious and real problem for so many in this world, and use it to promote your own self serviing needs! There is a greater force will have the ultimate judgement and for that I feel truly blessed. And I dont have 2 dishwashers!

Way OT, but I have been watching Cheer Revolution. Those cheer moms make the ranting and raving Dance Moms look like choir girls. They are very quiet, there is no shouting, no hurling insults, but just a very calculated movement going on among them as to who is going to rule the cheer moms (tell them what to do). It is a case point in study, let me tell you. The children hardly factor in at all just a backdrop for the moms. These women don't play; they are for real.

So far, Andrea thinks she is on top, because she connived Alisha into making her President of the cheer moms and Ann is seething, because she was the ruling cheer mom (until Andrea came along). But who is really winning the war is Shannon. Ann not to be outdone is just sitting back and taking it all in and not doing anything that Andrea tells her to do. Oh I was supposed to do that, I guess I forgot. You can see the wheels turning. She is giving Andrea a little rope to hang herself with and letting her achieve a false sense of security. Ann and Shannon have had a few words but Ann in a stroke of genius having enough of Andrea telling her what to do quietly reaches out to Shannon over lunch and they have formed an alliance; Andrea is about to be toast. I am not quite sure that Andrea might not be up for it though; she is good. She is really good in a crazy sort of way. After having strongly disliked Ann at first, I am starting to like her approach. She is just basking in a quiet confidence knowing that her husband has fully got her back and will strike when the iron is hot. Shannon, however, is using intelligence and Andrea has a knack for saying the right things to the right people at the right time with her little what oh I thought you knew, don't tell anyone you heard it from me. Lord knows I don't want to cause any trouble. So it should be interesting (they won the state finals by the way) because the last I saw Ann was telling Shannon that she had a couple of things in mind that might turn things around and Shannon lit up like a Christmas tree. She wants to see how Ann plays it not because she herself is "UNcapable," but just to watch her work to see how she measures up.

I know it is crazy, but I like to study different kinds of people and yes I do know that I need to get a life. Right now, I am thinking the highest paid writers in Hollywood could not hold a candle to the cheer moms. One can't help but wonder how KT would fit in to the scenario. She wouldn't have time to be fidgeting over a blog. She would be too busy, putting pen to paper, trying to stay in the game under the watchful eye of Shannon the true puppet master.

In the words of the great Al Pacino the cheer moms are just "getting warmed up."

Only one defender on ROL that I saw earlier, with the rest of the comments about how Kate is the bully and how it was apparent on the show and to anyone with eyes!

Someone said it earlier, criticism is not bullying. Harassment can be borderline. However, Kate clearly enjoys it as she does not discourage her 'followers' from attacking the haters on twitter, thus the ensuing twitter war, harassment and bashing, that goes way too far on both sides. She just likes crying foul, poor lil thing.

While I thoroughly enjoy most of the discussions here, usually thought provoking and interesting, some get silly, but that's perfectly okay :-) everyone is entitled, I've been known to bust loose too! I could never participate in the twitter wars as I cannot even imagine speaking to other people (been known to have a potty mouth at times, so that's not it) the way some of them do. It's one thing to call her out on the lies and exaggerations, which some do and leave it there, but dayum, it goes waaaaay to far, on both sides, the obsession and blind hatred of each other actually gets scary at times. I'm quite happy here with all the Off and On topic and while I miss the instant 'updates', I can live with the moderation.

I am sorry, but KT does not fit the profile of someone who has been bullied. My son is different than the other kids his age and by trying so hard not to stand out in a crowd and not knowing how to go about it he instead does the opposite, thereby making himself an easy target for bullies. I have learned a thing or two about the subject as I have seen the pain it can cause. It is not a subject to be bandied about and taken lightly. I learned from none other than my son who is very intelligent yet doesn't know how to act among his peers. He is great with adults and/or little kids but not among kids his own age. I used to shelter him from facing the many issues he had to deal with but over the past few years we have become very candid with one another. I tell him exactly what I think and he does the same.

He was truly bullied at school, which seems to be the theater where bullying is most likely to occur, where there is an audience. He always sat alone at lunch and on the playground or in gym because no one wanted to be associated with the guy who was targeted by bullies. People who think that bullies are big and tough are wrong. They always go for the soft target. They never bully someone who they consider to be an equal.

Strangely, though, we just the other day ran into one of the guys from my son's class who had pursued him relentlessly, and never cut him any slack at school. We ran into him at Game Stop. He came up to my son like they were the best of friends and did the little fist bump or whatever they do and he was like hey man how you doing. What game did you get oh cool. I'm looking for such and such and as they parted ways, he said, hey, good to see you man. He was outside the theater, he had no audience to back him up, because he was one of the cool guys. There he was just a regular guy, who was quite clearly glad to see my son (he is schooled at home now by a certified teacher). I was glad to see that interaction between them because outside the lion's den my son handled himself very well. I had always reassured him that though he might be bullied in school once you get out of school it's over.

My son in a candid moment said I don't have the self-esteem to deal with the bullies and they have a lot more testosterone than I do (he is a late bloomer as far as puberty is concerned) and they have more confidence and a lot of friends.

I don't think there is one among us who would say that KT is a soft target or lacking in self esteem or confidence. She holds herself in very high regard and has a quick temper and lashes out when she is angry. People who are bullied do not do that. They go into their shell where as my son would say, I don't feel anything. I just shut down. KT has a histrionic personality, and in fact thrives on attention and goes to great lengths to make herself be noticed. People who are bullied don't dress provocatively, talk loudly, and cause scenes. They would much prefer to become a part of the woodwork and not be seen nor heard.

It is a very sad thing for a kid to go through and I hate to see that word used lightly. I took my son out of school and thereby eliminated the problem. He is getting a great education and has friends and doesn't have the weight of the world on his shoulders by having to face that every day.

The way Kate tells it, Jon's parental rights have been terminated.

Although, I wonder if she means because they are splitting the kids. She is painting a picture lately of the two of them splitting the kids (i.e. last week she said she only had three of them), she gets some, he gets others, and frankly, I think that might be an arrangement that is very good for the kids. Gives them a break from the "pack".

Common Bully Traits

1. Like to dominate people

2. Like to use other people to get what they want

3. Lack of empathy

4. Self-Seeking

5. Violence in the absence of adults

6. View other as weak and potential prey

7. Uses blame, criticism, and false allegations

8. Refuse to accept responsibility

9. Lacks foresight and short term and long term consequences

10. Crave attention

11. Is NOT about anger

Just to add one more thing about the profile. When he was in school, he would not wear T-shirts that had any kind of design or logo on them only plain T's in a neutral color, maroon, brown and navy were his favorites. He didn't care if he wore the same color every day. Jeans had to be generic, no logo. He didn't want to draw attention to himself or be the guy with the Nike shirt or whatever that someone could identify him by, and no hoodies. I'm trying to find the study about bullies from a few years back. It debunked the theory that bullies have low self esteem. That they actually have very high opinions of themself. I'll keep looking, but in the meantime, I found this article about a study where they showed that the more popular a person became on the school social ladder, the more aggressive they became in their bullying and they were never stopped.

Admin 167- I do agree that Kate has turned into a bully over the years. Your list illustrates the characteristics perfectly.

It is not uncharactersitc for children who have lived in a dominating strict household growing up to swear they will never expose their kids to that (Kate). Unfortunately, if you are Bi Polar with Narcisstic features, once you begin having kids, you may mirror the very control issues you hated, and repeat past behavior. All of this has been escalated by her quest for fame, sending tapes emails to TLC, and anyone else who would listen. Once Kate orchestrated her tups, she felt special, and slipped right into the role of the domineering, never happy person, she probably hoped not to be. She should have gotten therapy, but NPDs don't respond well to treatment, even when they choose to go. Apparently the Bi-Polar issue was diagnosed (so there was a hint of a problem growing up), but she chose not to get treatment? Even if you do get treatment, if you don't help yourself, or think you know better than the doctor, often things will never get better. Sadly, I think Kate thought once she got a show, all would be perfect. She initially tried to project her idea of what a "good parent" would do, but as we all know, her BPD/Narcissim took over and the show evolved into a full fledged show about these two types of mental illness, at the expense of a husband/family/8 kids.

Her behavior when TLC required her to go camping for 2 weeks to get paid, after her Sara Palin fiasco episode, showed the true aspects of her mental illness in full glory. She simply could not stop her outrageous behavior and her illness. She would not even look at the cameras while getting ready for the RV trip, and was screaming at M & C and from there things continued to implode. I am guessing TLC knew they had a mentally ill person on their hands, and chose to finally show her actual behavior, as they knew post Palin episode, that they had a mentally ill person on their hands. Who would not get help. I am fairly sure a lot was edited prior to this, and the footage post Jon was horrible. With all of Jon's faults, I think he tried to manage her, as well as TLC, but BP/NPD is a horrible combo to try to manage, so it was inevitable they would "can" her, as she got more and more outrageous.

Not making excuses for her, but clearly, with her latest bullying claim, she needs to reach out for help, and address her issues, rather than blaming any and everyone for her problems. But she probably won't as is typical of these Axis 1 and 2 diagnosis.

I do hope Jon can be there for the kids, as her further "unraveling" is bound to happen once the book comes out in hard copy. And I don't think it is a fluke that Jon is spending more time with the kids (and keeping it private) no matter what Kate says.

I do hope that she gets some help, because the kids do deserve to have balanced parents. Unfortunately, NPD often do not think they need help, and therein lies the problem. It is always deflected - divorce, pressure, etc.. and never gets treated or addressed. I know of 2 Bi-Polar people who refused treatment, and later committed suicide. It is no joke. Sorry so long.

Here she goes, yet again... The text book ABUSER tactic, deflect, excuse and play the victim. If that "bullyville" site is also associated with "cheaterville" they expose "alledged" cheaters without PROOF and ANONOMOUSLY. Classy Kat,
CLAAAASSSYY. As many have mentioned before, she has yet to DENY Hoffman's book. She can't. I actually would LOVE for her to do the talk show circuit and watch her stammer and weave a totally UN plausible fairytale.

I truly believe that this latest ploy of Kate's concerning bullying is going to backfire on her big time. There is no way she can say that what she did to her kids and her ex-husband and all of the other poor souls who to interact with her on the show was not bullying at it's finest. For anyone who doubts this just watch any (and I mean ANY) of the episodes and you will see her bullying on at least one occasion if not more. I too agree that this is nothing more than Kate trying to deflect from the book.

Ex-Nurse and Wowser -- congratulations on the Grandchildren that you are waiting (excitedly!) for. Good news for both of you. Ex-Nurse, I hope sharing with us helps you keep on a forward path. Untangling is so difficult. But, it sounds as if you have a wonderful family and support system.

Lukebandit -- I hope you get positive test results. I know that you once said you have wonderful care givers. I hope today is a good day for you.

Pity Party -- I wish we could all meet your son and give him a big and encouraging hug. You sound like a wonderful mom who REALLY puts her child's need at the top of your "to-do" list. Blessing to both of you.

Everyone on the East coast -- be safe.

I believe that Kate may have been made fun of in school. If you look at her school pictures, and enlarge them, she had really terrible upper front teeth She had one tooth in the center that was twice the size it should have been. I bet she didn't get them fixed until after she married Jon. This must have caused her much angst, and knowing her, she probably hated her parents for not having them fixed when she was a child. I bet most of her upper teeth are now implants, as no way they could have fixed them otherwise.

Wouldn't you think that if she felt bullied, that she would stop it immediately, by shutting down her twitter and blogging? Out of sight, out of mind, and no bullying.

Susie Cincinnati said...

I'm wondering if the reason she posted on the bullying blog was simply to show that she is being bullied. Knowing that she gets negative responses at every site she blogs for, this would be an excellent way to say, "look at the comments, the hate, the anger...see, I told you so, I am bullied. I am the victim. This is what I go through."

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Bingo Susie. Bullying is a simple, convenient cop out for her so she never has to face the actual criticism her blog posts are getting.

She will never have to answer the question, how does someone who has two dishwashers in the kitchen, five freezers in the basement (okay Dexter!) and $200 face cream slathered on their forehead "sweat" over bills? Instead she can just cry "bully!!!" and that's that.

FYI said...

Although I would hate to see her on TV again, I would love for someone like Anderson Cooper to interview her about her being a victim of bullying and then to show various clips from the show of her bullying Jon(Toys R Us), Ashley and Jamie(pizzagate) and other various excerpts from the show. Then I'd like to hear her explain how she was not being a bully.

Unfortunately, I doubt it would happen. But I also doubt that nobody will want to interview about this bullying story. There are too many other stories about people who have actually been bullied-not some wannabe who thinks that criticism is bullying.

Sorry, Kate-you already did your BooHooTour in 2009. How come you didn't mention being bullied then?

Winsomeone,

I haven't seen any pictures of kk's growing up pics. Back in the day, today's bullying was called teasing. My brother was 'way buck toothed' and was teased constantly about it, Bugs Bunny kinda thing. It took 4 teeth being pulled and over 2 years of orthodontics to correct it. I had braces for 1 yr to push my teeth closer together, no huge gap was ever present.

Yes, there was extreme bullying, has been forever and a day by plain ole mean people, any age. If a person is going to tag someone a bully, they should first look deep into the mirror of their soul and ask, why, what they can do to attempt to end it and accept positive change and follow through.

I've seen 5 articles(ROL,eonline,Hollywood Gossip, Rumor Fix and National Enquire) that picked up Kate's bullying story. None of them actually gave an opinion, just re-hashed what Kate said on the Bullyville site.

But examiner.com now has a story giving an opinion and it is spot on. They also picked the perfect picture to go with it. The article states that Kate isn't being bullied, but because she put herself out there, she should expect to be criticized for her actions. Isn't that what we've all been saying?

"“A positive person by nature,” is the way Kate sees herself, but did she watch the episodes of “Kate Plus 8” when they embarked on an RV trip with friends? Her behaviors on that trip alone gave her critics plenty of ammunition."

Kate said she picked up her child from a school function tonight; There's nothing on the school calender for tonight .... Kate Gosselin lied again.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

One might think so, but just because there's nothing on the calendar doesn't mean that there wasn't anything happening tonight.

==========================

This bothers me. Kate is the champion tall tale teller, but we don't know that there wasn't something at the school last night, perhaps a class meeting, a practice of some sorts, and it may have been over at 9 p.m.. or later and they stopped to eat on the way home. Not everything might make it to the school's calendar, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't anything going on there. Immediately she's called a liar. It's the case of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. She's fibbed so many times, that nobody knows when she's telling the truth. This time, it may very well be true.

If Kate is claiming victim of bullying as a first deflective strike to Robert's book, then if I were her parents I would quick, quick lawyer up. The only next logical thing for Kate to do is claim her lousy parenting is due to being a victim of lousy parenting. "I cannot help that I bully people because I was bullied so that is what I know", would lead to "I cannot help beating my children because I was beaten and that is all I know".

Of course, if this is a pre-emptive strike then doesn't that indicate Robert's claims have validity? Would you have to start deflecting or giving reasons for something if they were not the truth? I don't think so.

Of course, this being short-sighted Kate, this may just be an attempt to bully her detractors into going away, or even just another means of letting the world know how much more difficult her life is than the lives of any of the rest of us.

The only thing certain with Kate, in my opinion, is that anything she says, anything she does, is self-serving. Period.
p.s. This part of the East Coast (NYC area) survived in good shape. As far as I can tell we got lots of snow but not the blizzard force winds they were predicting. Lots of shoveling to do but not downed trees or power lines. So much, much better than Sandy.

"Didn’t we already kind of know this? I mean a lot of the negative press borders on bullying and that press comes from the things that Kate herself has said and done. If you remember back a few years when she filmed her reality show with now ex-husband Jon, she was accused of being a horrible bully to him! Kate was nasty and mean all the time in their joint interview footage. Part of the public backlash at first came because of Kate’s treatment of Jon. She was labeled the bully but seems to have forgotten that while trying to play victim here."

Exactly. All of this bullying nonsense is coming out ahead of the book so she has an excuse for Robert's claims. If they weren't true, she'd have no reason to use bullying as a reason why those things happened, because they never would have happened.

This sure does get confusing...:-)

Remember Kate saying something to Jon along the lines of -- stand with me or stand against me. Well, now we know that if you don't stand with her you are a bully!

Kate said that all the negative articles in the press and tabloids about her were also bullying. Does she realize that The Stir was one of those "tabloids" that had many negative articles about her?

One of them was titled "A Kate Gosselin Cruise Sound Like a Vacation From Hell", in which the author stated " Listen, I don't consider myself a "Kate hater," but I truly can't think of a less relaxing, more obnoxious way to spend a week. Kate's claim to fame is pretty much being a yeller and a relentless task-master."

I find it funny that Kate included her current "employer" among the people that "bullied" her.

As a teacher, I deal with bullying almost every day. I teach second grade. It ranges from "He called me the S word" (stupid, LOL), to a child threatening to kill another one. Last year, one child said his father, a policeman, was going to bring his gun to school and kill another child. I know the press likes to become outraged at small children being suspended for only "pretending" to blow up a grenade, but I am here to tell you that some small children are not precious and innocent, they are scary and emotionless. And the worst ones have parents who milk the attention, claiming they are outraged and the school is picking on their darling. Watch out for those kids in 10 years.

Hook 'em Horns said...

But I need to say that those children are the minority. Most kids are sweet, and try to always do the right thing, and feel bad when they don't. The other are 1 in a thousand. But they make the news.
