What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger

Megan Kowalewski's remarkable fight

Thanks to one young woman's random encounter with Jon Gosselin, we now are privileged to know the story of this inspiring Berks County resident as she battles cancer. Megan, age 24, was diagnosed with lymphoma over a year ago and has been in treatments ever since. Her empowering music video homemade at the hospital, with Kelly Clarkson belting out lyrics like "You didn't think that I'd come back, I'd come back swinging," in the background, is a Youtube sensation.

Megan's treatments have caused a great deal of pain, and stomach symptoms. She couldn't eat a thing over the holidays this year. But her appetite has been better recently, and on Saturday when she felt well enough to grab some fast food, she bumped into Jon Gosselin at a Chick-fil-A. Jon posed for not just one photo but two, and Megan proudly posted them on her Facebook account. The photos generated over 1,800 likes and 233 comments, mostly from friends happy to see her smiling again.

The Reading Eagle has been documenting her story, which can be found here. Megan speaks frankly about her situation to the publication, from being devastated at not having enough time to harvest her eggs should treatments make her infertile, to her fears at not being able to beat her disease. "I'm not embarrassed," Megan said. "I want people to know the truth about what's going on."

Wishing you good health, Megan.

Another thought on Jodi's speech-- she's got to be one of the best actresses in Hollywood. What a career! And yet, she's so humble that with all of her star power, she just can not imagine that her life would be watchable. It goes to the narcissistic mind set of just about every person who is in reality tv. They think they are endlessly fascinating. Kate thinks she oh so watchable and heaven forbid, pithy, which she is decidedly not. In fact, I truly think she's dumber than a bag of hammers. And Kate thinks her infantalized kids are utterly fascinating! But really, they're just your garden variety kids with not one of them being exceptional in any way. Sorry, they're lovely, but not exceptional. Not a violin virtuoso among them.
Yup, they are all mediocre. Deal.

About dogs with seizures,I have a pekingese who has sporiac seizures. She sleeps on my bed twice in the last 6 months I have gone into the bedroom to see if she wants to outside, and found pee on my bed and poop. She never does that any other time. She also had drool coming out of her mouth as she went to the door to go outside. I'm just assuming she had a seizure. She's 10 years old and I'm not sure what the life expectency of pekeignese is but I'm sure she's close.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

NT, please don't give up on your Pekingnese yet. They can easily live 14 - 15 years. I had a cockapoo who started having tonic-clonic (Grand Mal) seizures at 10 and lived another 4 years with good quality of life on a low dose of Phenobarbital. Start a log of when she has episodes and ask your vet about them if you suspect seizures. Pheno and Potassium Bromide are not expensive meds. My second dog did well for 8 years after diagnosis and only had focal (Petit Mal) seizures. So don't be intimidated by PJ's Momma and my descriptions. Our dogs are having more difficult time.

My present pooch (retired racing greyhound) has problematic seizures in that they are always violent and are proving very hard to control. He has also "clustered" (had several seizures in a row) which is an life threatening emergency. I have to keep intranasal valium on hand in case he does that again and we are always prepared to rush him to an emergency vet.

Two good websites on doggy seizures are the Canine Epilepsy Guardian Angels and the Canine Epilepsy Network. Sorry I can't seem to embed the links so you will have to google.

Admin: thanks again for letting us go off topic. My name here was a rather silly joke when I fist posted and now I'm stuck with it. I truly do appreciate the off topic discussions here. I actually wrote a long very much on topic post earlier in this thread. :)

And for the above critic of people who dress their dogs: My hounds wear PJs, coats, have very snazzy collars, and we also own a Therapaw or two. I take care of my animals, but also do a lot of volunteer work for non-profits and charities. So there!:P

Off Topic, aww. I look at it this way. If you treat a pet so lovingly and with so much care and attention, think how well all these people must treat people!

There is a new post--Jodi Foster deserves her own again. What a woman she is.

My DD has a chihuahua and she walks her dog every day in the winter (Quebec's winters are ice cold). She only walks her to the corner street and back. The dog always has a warm wool coat on for her walks. Buying that coat for her dog was not a luxury, it was a necessity. When my DD lets her out to potty, she waits inside the door so that the dog does not have to stay out any longer than necessary.

I listened to Jody Foster's speech yesterday and was surprised to see how down to earth she was. I hadn't realized she had done so many movies.

Dwindle it's good to see you back and feeling better. Now don't get too tiredish with all your busy busy busy day.

Just wanted to say that my dog is wearing a shirt because the vet told me to put one on her! It's to keep dog from getting at her stitches.
My vet secretly hates people and knows that by putting a shirt on my dog I am removing food from children's mouths.

I put a little Tshirt on my cat once. He walked like he'd had a stroke and then just laid down and acted all pissy and humiliated until I took it off him.

I don't mind awards for the arts and I like to know what they think was the best of the best especially films as I couldn't be a bigger film buff but I do have to say I wish that everyday heroes could get as much pomp and circumstance. There's no golden globes for firefighters to give out prizes in national tv for saving a bunch of kids.
