Guilty: Former Jon and Kate Plus 8 editor registers as sex offender and will serve four years probation

Bill Blankinship, who worked on the production side of Jon and Kate Plus 8 for at least 23 episodes, now shows up on North Carolina's sex offender registry, which shows he was convicted and registered last April, and will serve 48 months of probation. He was convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree.

Now that a reality t.v. crew member is a registered sex offender, will this finally wake parents and viewers up to the dangers of turning your child over for public consumption in the name of the almighty dollar?

A large bust in North Carolina last October included the arrest of William Johnson Blankinship, credited by TLC as Bill Blankinship, who is listed as a writer, editor and on-line editor for Jon and Kate Plus 8 from 2007-2009 and an on-line editor for Kate Plus 8 from 2010-2011. Blankinship also worked on 19 Kids and Counting, Sister Wives and Table for 12, three other TLC shows about children.

According to authorities, "Operation Spyglass" resulted in the arrest of 24 men over five months on felony charges ranging from the possession and distribution of child pornography to indecent liberties with a minor. Several of the men will be charged with felonies and could face prison time.

Last year, Jon confirmed he met Blankinship several times during filming of the show. He said he was "freaked out" to learn of the arrest.

One thing for sure-she's definitely Chief Sitting Bull, when she's on twitter.

Seriously. I think once I saw her connect to a child with genuine warmth. It was when she walked into the kids' room after she had the tummy tuck and the little girl looked at her with googly eyes. It was adorable. Other than that, I don't see any joy in her when she interacts with the kids.
=====

It was either Leah or Alexis who kept saying "hi mommy". It WAS cute.

And MOMMY said, "Hi. Is mommy pretty?"

Just pack some stuff, and you and the kids get in your new mercedes BBB and GO.

Use that plastic card you fill up your three cards with. You can buy more with it than just gas.
She has to be THE cheapest woman on the planet.
..maybe she can't find appropriate help to go along with her? Maybe Gina set her foot down about going with Kate on a vacation?

Gotta speak up about Sharon Osborne. She had career in music management, started out working for her fathers agency, before she ever met Ozzy. She managed bands including Ozzy. She has reputation of being very strong business woman who is hard negotiator. She produced their TV show. She had her own syndicated talk show few years back. She considers Pat Boone (yes, Christian and fifties icon) the best neighbor they ever had and ”a lovely man”. And Pat likes them! I have watched interviews over the years, and read some bio info, always liked her. And she and the kids traveled with Ozzy and the band when they were little, because they did not want the family separated. And their oldest daughter Aimee did not want to be on the reality show, so Sharon and Ozzy made sure she was not filmed ever.
She is a colon cancer survivor, only because hypochondriac Ozzy made her get a screening colonoscopy when she turned 50. And they both speak out about colon cancer and the need for screening and early detection.
I really like Sharon. I think she and Howie Mandel and Howard Stern are great together on Americas Got Talent.

She got a reality show because her freak husband bites the heads off living animals and rodents, so I am completely unaware of what her talent, craft or skill is

This is a very long told rumour. Do a little research.

I think Sharon's talent is getting her dimwit husband to superstar status. She's an awesome PR person and manager. Other than that I don't know what her skillset is.

I really doubt that there was a camera installed in the bathroom of the new house. One of the kids was filmed there. When one of the twins was filmed on the basement floor, it definitely was by a crew member. Kate was upstairs at the time. There were no parents present. Didn't one of the twins tape a note to her bedroom door forbidding the crew to enter?

Pack some sunscreen sweetie, and water, bring that, don't forget the towels & swim suits. See how simple a day at the beach can be? Oh, and if the kiddies pick up enough bottles and can, let them buy an ice cream with the money.

Not sure why my last comment didn't post but I also mentioned Sharon's management skills and how she resurrected Ozzy's career by inventing OzFest.

I usually subscribe to comments because the drawing of Kate, although good, gives me the creeps. For a few days I was reading on the site when Jon's pic with Rabbi Smoozly was posted. The drawing of Jon looked SO MUCH like the picture. Hairline, eyebrows, chin, etc. Just the mouth is off, IMO but the artist really captured so much of him. I was laughing every time I refreshed the page.

Now, not so much. I don't like seeing that monster's face. I subscribed to comments again.

I am not understanding the grifting for a beach vacation thing. How much does it really cost for a day at the beach? I've done it, I've done it even when I lived several hours from the coast, and it costs next to NOTHING.

What does she want, hard working Americans to chip in gas money and snacks for the road? I mean does she have even a minuscule amount of shame? Why doesn't she just stop beating around the bush and outright ask for people to just hand over to her cash, maybe on a monthly basis like child support.

Admin, of course Kate would love nothing more than to "take the tribe to the beach." The problem is that Kate will only go to a private beach like in NC. She would panic, errrr..... I mean cause a panic if she and the tribe stepped foot on a regular beach packed with mediocres. Ergo, even though she would love to take the tribe to the beach, because she is a batshit crazy cheapass snob, the kids just get to sit home because she won't fork over the 10k to rent a house on a secluded uber-private beach she requires.

Yes, of course you're right. But she doesn't want just one day at the beach...she wants a full Bald Head Island gig with the luxury villa, private beach, Steve, at least one nanny (no, two would be better), a burly real bodyguard, and the "crew dads" to amuse the kids. Oh, and TLC to plan the "activities" like flying a kite in gale-force winds, cause the kids are just playing in front of the camera, after all.

No, she simply can't manage a mini trip alone. She's a single mom, for heaven's sake. The fans would mob them, she would be exhausted just packing the car, but, you know,---she would GIVE ANYTHING for a beach trip. Right.

Hello Kate, the man of your dreams just became single! Tom Cruise will be auditioning for a new stepford wife soon. Roll the clip,"Kate, you look like a stepford wife". He loves kids, well he loves controlling them to become scientologists, and he has already proven he doesn't mind adopting, and you know how desperate yours are for a daddy. You may have to give up twitter, Tom doesn't like his women having a voice, a say or even a public presence that he doesn't approve of -- weren't you just complaining the other day about how you hated doing this alone and you wished someone else would make the decisions? See, this is perfect.
You might have to share your Steve though, but that is just a rumour, kind of like the one about you banging Steve. Nobody knows for sure. But so what, it is not like you are seeking true intimacy or passion. Besides think of all the outfits and shoes Tom's money can buy! And beach, he owns half of Malibu, you and the nannies can take the kids to the beach, well not you, but they can go swimming while you tan. Oh wait, no, Tom hates tanned women, sorry, you are going to have to become Nicole Kidman and again perfection, you have Steve to help you with the accent!! Think of all the movie roles Tom can get you. And best of all, Tom doesn't mind his women towering over him. Hooker heels, hello.
So don't delay Kate, got off twitter and RUN to your nearest scientology centre.

Jessica 200.....

I quit smoking 30 years ago, when you could virtually smoke anywhere, anytime. I smoked 2 packs a day because I could!

As with any addiction, it's one day at a time and I found looking at it that way very helpful. Someone told me to drink orange juice when I had a craving, and for whatever reason it helped. I also didn't want to gain a lot of weight, so I shifted my thinking to getting healthy by eating better and exercising more. You have to try to think in a new way, you are moving toward a healthier life and away from something you know is harmful to your health.

For me though, I took great pride in saying to myself "I didn't have a cigarette today", and really did it one day at a time. It is tough, but it is the one thing I know I will never do again, I was so addicted and wanted that monkey OFF my back.

Once the physical cravings diminish, and they will, then it's a matter of dealing with the habits and old behaviors you have around smoking. But, soon you will be able to deal with those as you become dedicated to being a non-smoker.

Keep it up, you can do it.

By the way regarding the nanny, that just tells me that Kate didn't pick her up at an agency because she never would have passed an agency background check. I was with an agency in west LA for awhile and like all nanny agencies they do thorough background checks and only accept squeaky clean nannies.

Which frankly as a celeb who has let's face it, celebrity children, you're just being cheap not going through an agency that thoroughly checks out people around your CHILDREN. You can't just hire the neighbor when you're Kate, you have to be more careful and have higher standards when kids are famous or you're putting them at risk. She probably picked this person up off the street. Which incidentally would make a great CC money saving blog post. Save on childcare by hiring the first halfway normal looking 20-something with a record you see.

Dwindle not sure if anyone clarified but Ozzie had a light-hearted gimmick where he would bite off the heads of FAKE bats. As a joke someone handed him a real bat and he didn't realize. He had to go through all the series of rabies shots, they talk about how scary it was, the publicity was embarrassing, it was a big ole mess he never intended. I remember once on the Osbourne's show Kelly was upset because she was saying that's all they remember her for the daughter of the guy who bit the head off a bat.

The Osbournes was crass at time but there are some good articles online where several different psychologists and parenting experts talk about how actually overall, they were pretty good parents and did a lot of things right.

What I always thought was sweet on their show is Sharon and Ozzy would be in bed and the kids would come home and just come in and sit on their bed and talk. What parent of teens doesn't just DREAM about a kid wanting to talk to their parents about their day instead of coming home going to their room and slamming the door. They were doing something right.

Since the tups didn't know who the President of their own country was a couple of years back, I doubt Joely has a dream to go to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower. That was a ridiculous tweet. Kate is so obvious, she's pathetic. She's putting words into her children's mouths to let the world know what SHE wants. How often does she mention the boys? Lately, it seems only when she wants something. Aaden wants the CREW to come visit, and now Joel wants to go to Paris. What will Collin be pining for?

Her spouting her bucket list hasn't accomplished anything-so now she's once again using the kids in the hopes that someone will make their(HER)dreams come true.

With the tweet about the beach trip, it's almost as if she reads her twitter looking for an opening where she can make a remark about what's on her wish list. Her reply was just so off the wall, considering the original question.

Then for Milo to tweet the TravelChannel, telling them they should send her to France-most people would find that embarrassing-but not Katie the Grifter.

_______________________________________

I never understood the nanny situation.

Kate says she lives and breathes for her kids and lassos the sun & moon for them and all that crap she thinks sounds mother-like. Then, instead of hiring trained, screened, experienced nannies through a reputable agency, it almost looks like she put ads on Craigslist for local girls, the younger the better. Unless she can come up with a better explanation, she seems(ed) to prefer young, inexperienced girls who may possibly be a little starstruck and in awe so they would be less apt to challenge her or question what she does. Cheaper, too. 8 grade school kids at once is alot for anyone, let alone a young girl just out of high school. Which then leads to the constant turnover and Kate whining "it's very hard for us to keep helpers" "people keep leaving us" and just recently "there's no loyalty from employees anymore." Ya think?
Cheesy as Dr, Phil is, I love his quote "how's that workin' for ya?" It's not. If you keep hiring unexperienced flaks because they are cheap and easily intimidated, you're going to get alot of turnover. Yet she keeps on doing what is not working because she refuses to choose the option that will work and be better for her kids. She keeps choosing the option where she is the qween and the lowly peon will sign an ironclad confidentiality agreement and obey her without question or dissent. Then, because this is America in the 21st century, when the peon quits that bitch, Kate takes to her bedroom to sniff & dab and tell all her twatters how it's so hard for them to keep the help. Then the twatters all console her and tell her how wonderful she is. As usual, it's a win-win for Kate and another lose-lose for the kids.

The girl is sitting on the counter top and the foot soaking machine is obviously on a stool or something similar. What would have happened if the machine got knocked over accidentally?

Why couldn't the girl be sitting on a chair with the machine on the floor? It would seem much safer.

But then Kate would have to get down to the child's level(or below) to actually paint her toes, wouldn't she? When has Kate ever crouched down and put herself at an even level with her children?

It's all about what makes it easier for Kate.

Once a Viewer - I know. Kate and her control freakiness. She just HAD to say something about Mr. Water Softner's toolbox for the camera. God knows what she and Steve do on that countertop.

I really can't blame Mady for playing up to her mom. I think she had to put herself in survival mode. I can understand her frustration at having a peaceful life and then suddenly six babies land in on your happy little world accompanied by all the commotion Kate and Jon created when they were born. There had to be lots of times when she and Cara felt like they'd been benched while the six took all the attention, even if it wasn't intentional. Now that the tups are older she's got a chance to get back some of that attention.

Very surprising Kate would allow the mani/pedi to take place in her kitchen. Agree. She is too much of a 'sex icky' kind of person, which actually goes along with her stunted intellect and personality, to ever consider doing it anywhere other than a bed. And even then I think it was a case of "Lay back and think of HOM to bring MEEEE fame and money." to get her through it.

Guys, I didn't have much luck at the plumbing supply store either.

I yelled HELLLOOOOOOOOOOO!? when they didn't tell the mediocre person they were waiting on before me to please step aside so *I* could be helped, I cackled seductively, I flapped my arms, I grabbed a small PVC pipe and smacked one of them when he didn't know how to help me, I took off my hooker heels and ran out to my truck to get the list of parts hubby gave me, then I came back in and sobbed in the fetal position because I couldn't decide which part to choose. When I finally decided, I tried paying with a loaf of bread and the guys said WTF? I KNOW I had them talking the rest of the day about how georgeous (lol) I was! As a matter of fact, one of them told me I was smokin hot'! It just never gets easier hearing that but I said "thank you... but honestly, I do know I am smokin hot'" He said "no lady, I asked you if you were SMOKING POT" Lordy Bee, I know he said *I* was smokin' hot so I said "hey @plumbing store workers, this HVAC man is a fraud... Poor thing, she is muchtoobusyandexhausted for anything else. It's such a hard life, but someone simply must organize and mastermind it.

Speaking of which, it does seem, doesnt it, that opening the car doors for kids to get in, and packing 8 crackers, 8 grapes and 8 juicy boxes, DOES seem to be beyond her organizing capabilites. But he did it, and you can too. Your body will thank you, every organ, every pore. Remember these two commercials ( if you are familiar with them) One has Yul Brynner who died of a smoking -related disease. He said "By the time you see this commercial, I will already have died. From smoking." The other has a woman who looks horrible & old, shriveled and deformed- she puts on a wig, false teeth etc and a voice synthesizer over her tracheotomy- esophagus/trachea? was removed due to cancer caused by smoking.

Stay strong but don't beat yourself up over a couple of slips- you'll get there. :)

All I can say is WHAT THE HECK! She's a scam artist plain and simple!! But why do they keep giving her lazy ass anything! I was raised if you want something you work for it not beg for it!
--------------------------------

Totally agree! They ( J & K) based their intial grifting on alleged need when the tups were born, and saw how well it worked. More grifting with TLC, who paid for pretty much anything Kate wanted, and we now have the entitled wealthy grifter who still thinks she can just ask/comment, and she will receive.

I do agree some companies, fans, etc.. have continued to meet her requests, in the case of companies, maybe advertisement when she tweets them. But the fact remains, she is a millionaire who has been given plenty over to the years, starting with their J & K website.

Jon doesn't grift, so I think this is simply part of her NPD and she just can't stop, as she can never think of anyone but herself. After all, she has 8 count 'em 8 kids.

Solution: Get a job, and stop your embarassing, lazy, self-centered tweets, as if everyone was put on the face of the earth to deal with your needs. No one owes you anything. But you just can't stop your grifting, can you?

I am of the mind that there was some inside "deal" with Kate regarding the Blankinship matter. Jon and Kate's reactions were publicly far different. And what appeals to Kate most- $$$$$$$$$$$. TLC knew how to keep her quiet, in my opinion. Think about it. She obviously does not want to discuss the Blankinship topic, while Jon was quite disgusted.

Other than CC and occassional R&R marathons, she is not very note-worthy these days. Let's face it, if you have to use twitter as a star to keep yourself relevant, with nothing else going on, you really are a "washed up" and maybe a blacklisted former star.

I wish nothing but the best for these kids BUT with K at the helm, prognosis not good. She transfers far too many of her needs on to her kids. As she said to Tony D- "I just don't get it," and she never will.

I'm gone from the computer for a few days because my oldest daughter was home for a visit and boy did I miss a lot.

We saw some of the kids not wanting to be filmed at times, but how sad that the tups were to young to understand that being filmed on the potty or taking a bath is such an invasion of privacy. Unfortunately, their parents understood that but let it be filmed anyway. Last fall, my then 3 1/2 year old grandson would not let the photographer take his picture at preschool. He flat out refused. When it came time for the class picture, he put his hand in front of his face. The school was fine with that and didn't press the issue. When I went to pick him up, they gave him the option of having his picture taken with me standing there and he still refused. He didn't know the photographer and he was having none of it. We all were still fine with him refusing it. My oldest daughter is the family photographer so when we get together she takes a ton of pictures and they come out beautiful. At this young age, he also demands his privacy when he goes to the bathroom. However, he does not want to poop in the toilet or potty. He wants a diaper. We have told him the diapers are done, but that sometimes leads to issues. He is completely trained with urinating during the day and all night and has been for quite a while but not the poop. I have daughters and they were both trained before they were two and this was never an issue so I don't know if this is a boy thing or what. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. We definetly didn't see all things filmed. I think Berks may have been referring to the now infamous boy on the potty seat in the dark episode. Since everyone was guessing, I looked up Sharon Osbourne, because like Piers Morgan, no one heard of them until the came to the US from Britain. So here is what I found:
is an English television host, author, music manager, businesswoman and promoter as well as the wife of heavy metal singer-songwriter Ozzy Osbourne.

She came into public prominence after appearing in The Osbournes, a reality television show that followed her family's daily routine. Osbourne later became a judge on the talent shows The X Factor, from 2004 until she left in 2007, and America's Got Talent until present. Her autobiography, Extreme, has sold in excess of two million copies.[3]

After the success of The Osbournes and The X Factor, hosting her own chat shows and securing advertising contracts, Osbourne was ranked as the 25th richest woman in Britain on the 2009 Sunday Times Rich List.[4] Sharon and husband, Ozzie rank 714th richest.

So I guess Sharon can get pretty angry at Kate Gosselin since Sharon has made her own money. She came here and we got to now her screwy family on TV.

In Britain, Sharon wore so many hats, was agent to many groups, individuals, promotional marketer/game show host/TV talk show host and even hosted Who wants to be a Millionair.

So her show was a reality show in the USA, but half was not true and she knows what they had to do with production to keep the fans interested. She said her children's addictions were as a result of being in the wrong environment as teens at the wrong time. Which we can all identify with.

Sharon Osbourne does not like Kate one bit. She sees her as a leach on her children. Now Sharon deals with her son's MS. He is a US Forest Ranger somewhere in Utal or Montana, plus he is an educated and trained EMT in those mountains, he has a lovely girlfriend and a month old baby. He got himself clean thanks to this parents, education and moved away from Hollywood. Their daughter may be questionable as she is a member of that young squad in Hollywood, but she does know fashion, been on Fashion Police for 4 yrs now, has a fashion line and grew up on DWTS by learning how to eat without being anorexic forever.

As for Kate, she has no respect from anyone. When people started talking about Kate allowing anytype of filming of her children it was a blow to the normal TV stations. Plus her mean streak and quick temper made a lot of enemies.

She can't can't her kids on TV either because they are just normal, boring kids at age 8 unless they are competing for the Olympics or USA trials here in the US.

It is strange that other than Mady playing violin and perhaps Cara, who has to help raise the kids having a sport, none of the Little Kids are involved in gymnastics, they are all small and very thin when you se them in person, I did at the Constitution Center and I was shocked how tiny they are and neither Jon or Kate are tiny boned, but they certainly are, not anounce of fat on their bodies, but why aren't they in sports, anything to get them out of the house. Has she stilted her sons?

Anyone see the Biography of Johnny Carson last night? His mother ignored him, never showed affection or love to him but she did to his younger sister and older brother, it affect Johnny's relationship with his own 3 sons, all women he was married to and no matter what he accomplished, she had a quick put down and that was until the day she died at 85. She never gave him one compliment and it destroyed him, inside. Sad to think "my mother does not love me" but she loves my siblings.

So when Jodi and Kevin testified under oath that the kids were left alone with the crew and that they were filmed naked they were committing perjury?

Since I live on the West Coast, I am not familiar with the beaches in the East, but am I correct that Kate and her "tribe" live less than 3 hours from the coast?

From the map, it looks like there are lovely areas of New Jersey and Delaware with wildlife refuges, wetlands, and wide beaches they could visit. She just needs to get a grip, pile them in the bbb, pack a lunch, and drive out there. For heaven's sake, it's not that hard. Just find a quiet beach and park. If it's too long a trip for one day, spend the night in a local hotel. The kids would adore it, and she could prove all of us wrong.

My best memories of childhood are of the beaches in SoCal: Newport, Huntington, the tide pools in Corona del Mar, and Salt Creek Beach were my favorites, and I know her kids love the beach, too. You don't have to entertain them at all. They make their own fun.

In the PA hearings with Rep. Murt, Jodi and Kevin Kreider affirmed that naked children were filmed during the production of JKPlus 8, and that there was full-frontal nudity on film. The panel listening to this seemed quite shocked, and so they asked again. A second time the Kreiders said that full frontal nudity of the Gosselin sextuplets had been filmed.

Now, that does not mean America saw all of that. But I remember when one child had that explosive diaper episode that freaked Kate out so much, we saw plenty of the front side of a naked baby. It was brief, but there it was. Something tells me that flash of skin was not all Kevin and Jodi were referring to, however.
I'm sure producers, film crew members, and editors saw plenty of it, all permitted to be filmed by parents of these unsuspecting children who could not possibly know what was happening to them.

It was a little something I could do to help the people who live on the coast, the businesses on the coast and the environment. I mostly picked up foam and plastic bottles. Nothing exciting.

Normally, I go home for christmas. My dad (parents divorced and my mom is abusive so I dont spend time with her) and I spend christmas at the oregon coast. There is a little motel that is old apartments that we like to stay at. Its a block away from the ocean. They are not fancy, but they are clean, have two rooms and a full kitchen. We spend the days walking the beach, looking for tide pools and relaxing. Its only 40 F and the water is also that cold. These are the sorts of memories and traditions the G8 are missing out on. I dont have fond memories of childhood but its nice to create them now with my dad.

Fido, 100: Something tells me that flash of skin was not all Kevin and Jodi were referring to, however.
I'm sure producers, film crew members, and editors saw plenty of it, all permitted to be filmed by parents of these unsuspecting children who could not possibly know what was happening to them.

SoCal, 97...For heaven's sake, it's not that hard. Just find a quiet beach and park. If it's too long a trip for one day, spend the night in a local hotel. The kids would adore it, and she could prove all of us wrong.

Here's the thing, though. Have they been given the best of everything, luxury hotels, rental houses in NC, the sands of Hawaii, that a trip to Stone Harbor, NJ, will be mediocre for them and totally boring? Will they be satisfied -- will they want more? I don't know how much the entitlement thing has been ingrained in them.

Seems like I remember another Kate twitter after the "don't know him" one. Something like "just because I don't talk about it doesn't mean nothing is being done". I think she got alot of flak and used that second twitter to cover her butt.

I do remember this vaguely, though as I remember it, she backpedaled days after her initial statement when the criticism was just too overwhelming. I hope she did something. But given that there are still no firm regulations in place to prevent this from happening again yet she still seeks to film the crap out of her kids, I'm guessing she's done squat nor does she care to do a thing.

What I find very telling about Aunt Jodi and Uncle Kevin's testimony is that Kate has never specifically denied one word of it.

I did a blog post once challenging Kate to please give us some specific examples of what Jodi and Kevin said that was inaccurate. Instead all she did was deflect and take some cheap shots about Jodi and Kevin leaving their kids to go testify (really Kate? This coming from YOU?)

Another thing I love about Pennsylvania and that whole Northeast area is it's hard not to live within an hour of a beach, or lake, or gorge or river, all of which have beaches or beach-like areas. We're having a bit of a family reunion on the East Coast after a wedding. Tonight we went to the beach! The beach of one of the great lakes. We watched a beautiful sunset, had skipping rock competitions, it was great family time. Oh and it didn't cost us a cent. The great lakes have some great beaches that are perfectly suited for almost all things "beachy."

Maybe. But I doubt it. They are kids and kids are creative and curious. The plain old beach offers so many fun adventures that all kids love. I remember a Kate Plus 8 episode where they installed the slide for the pool, and all the kids could talk about was the little frog they found in their spa! That's how kids think. Just give them some buckets and boogie boards, and they'll play all day.

Jessica, you need to read this book "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Alan Carr. My husband quit quite easily and we've bought many copies and given them out to friends and family. The information presented makes you want to quit, and it is not scary medical stuff, it is industry insider stuff on how the selling of tobacco and nicotine as a highly addictive product (untrue) goes on. So by the end of the book you will find yourself quitting in disgust, with no need for willpower and no cravings or weight gain. The ratings on Amazon often use the word 'miracle' to describe this book and I would agree, my husband has no desire to smoke and wonders how he talked himself into smoking for as long as he did. Good luck!

Yes I agree I think the kids will have a good time. Another example is in NYC when they were trying to go to some carnival, all the kids wanted to do was play on some rocks. I think they would enjoy a simple beach trip and wouldn't demand luxury.

Another thing to keep in mind is I'm having my doubts about how much the Tups even remember their life of filming. The effects of being famous can certainly be felt for them, like being recognized, but do they even remember most of the trips they went on? With the exception of the last few trips they did like Alaska and Australia, I doubt it.

Don't they have any pride?? I always worked so hard to be the best teacher I could possibly be! If I was a writer I would want to write stories where I would expose her lies, confront businesses that give her freebies when she is a

I can't believe they get paid for that crap because if I was their English professor I would give them a D for content and effort !!

Instead all she did was deflect and take some cheap shots about Jodi and Kevin leaving their kids to go testify (really Kate? This coming from YOU?)
___________________________________________

I do believe Kate also made some false cheap shots at Kevin & Jodi about making money from their Radar & CBS morning show interviews and buying a new house with it. At the time of the interviews, the sheeple started a complete rumour/falsification that Kevin and Jodi had paid off their house with the money. When in reality, not only had Jodi and Kevin not paid off their house, they took out a second mortgage apparently to make some improvements. They then sold that house and bought another one, with a second also being taken out on it right away. This was all clearly outlined on Preesi's site from public records she had obtained. Kevin and Jodi never paid off their old house, nor did they buy a new one almost free & clear, because they in fact took out 2nd loans on both of them. But Kate botox-faced LIED and said they did.

It's just so rich that when people tell the truth about how she REALLY acts and how rotten she REALLY is, Blocky immediately screams that they are lying. But she thinks it's quite acceptable for her to lie and/or pull her veiled implications of "u don't kno what I kno" "u don't kno full story" "u don't kno what we went through" "I don't approve of unethical business practices" shit. Hell, she screamed that no matter what unknown thing that PhillyChitChat had on her, it was a lie.

Now, we find out that she allegedly "spent the day with family and friends" yesterday. Hmmmmm... I actually tend to maybe believe her a little bit. It completely makes sense to me that she would ingratiate herself back with these people now that finances dictate it. If can't-do Kate is reduced to hiring local boys to drive her old jalopy of a tractor around her estate, I also imagine she's trying to cheap out on child care as well. Like free cheap. I think she's willing to have a relationship with them as long as they provide her free childcare when she and Skeeve shuffle off to wherever. I would think her parents & family will be glad to do it and kiss her flat bum in the process, just to have contact with the kids. Any grandparent worth their salt would. I hope it's true for the kid's sake, but if it is, it's not a true family dynamic. Kate will let them see the kids as long as they stroke her ego, never challenge her and never say anything she doesn't want to hear. Or else. Also, even though Kate is a complete moron, she's not dumb. She could also be lining up character witnesses to interview for her potential sniff & dab People mag article to refute GosselinBook, should ever make it to print :(

As for going to the beach, even if she meant just a local beach she couldn't handle the lack of control there without PB to block possible fans and photo taking, plus a few others to watch the kids. She would be screeching at them to stay in a small area. The kids wouldn't be able to do anything separate of the group even if some preferred the water and some wanted to play on the sand because she couldn't handle watching them alone. She would draw more attention to herself by herding the kids to the water, herding them back to the towels, etc.

Feel compelled to post --- my mother died from COPD. The last few years of her life were very very hard for her and sad, as she toddled around with her oxygen tubing draped on the floor behind her.

She was with hospice for about 7 months. It took her a long time to die. She gained about 70 lbs from using the steroid inhaler 3 times a day but she couldn't breathe without it. Her weight gain had nothing to do with food intake, as she had pretty much lost her appetite by this time.

She also had to do 3 breathing treatments a day to loosen the mucus in her lungs, then she would hack and cough for an hour after, as she brought it all up.

There were many times she'd be in the middle of a conversation and start gasping for breath. Which meant an extra breathing treatment, much coughing, and a racing heart rate from the med. That brought many visits to a screaming halt, limiting her social circle.

She had to use a scooter to get around, even in her house, because walking took her breath away.

Smoking kills, but before it does it makes you pretty damn sick. She died in 2002 at age 78. And 10 years later I still get sick at heart thinking about what she went through.

In the end she suffocated to death, even with 10 liters O2 via nasal canula PLUS 10 liters of O2 via liquid oxygen by face mask. Fortunately for her, the hospice nurses keep her sedated/unconscious using morphine, ativan and valium. She just went to sleep for two days and then was gone.

Smoking doesn't only affect those who have smoked. I also affects their families, physically and emotionally forever.

Even after 10 years, I still carry anger at her for her unwillingness to stop smoking. She often said 'oh well, it's too late now'. It makes me so very sad that she didn't feel she had any control over her life.

And in my dark moments I am angry that she didn't care enough about me to stop. (There it is, a most shameful admission - I wanted my mom to love me enough to stop, but she didn't/couldn't - pretty pitiful admission, huh?)

She started smoking around 1946, at age 13-14 or so. I understand it was way before people understood the implications of tobacco use; she smoked for over 60 years.

Her story stands in stark opposition to those Malboro Man billboards and beautiful actresses on the big screen, yes? Back in the day Hollywood glamorized smoking. My mom went through a period where she actually even had a cigarette holder like in the movies. Glamor in the 50s and 60s.

Jessica, I applaud you for your efforts to stop. Please keep going! You will be doing you and your family a HUGE service, and your life will be much more active and easier within a few months.

My post isn't meant to scare or frighten, honestly. It's a true account of one person's battle. It just makes me so very, very sad that I don't have a mother now because she smoked and didn't have the desire to quit.

I know it's hard. But using that old 'one-day-at-a-time' mantra, you can do anything.

Keep it up - you are STRONG enough to do it and the rewards will be plentiful!!!

Use whatever motivation you can find, or develop on your own. Quit for yourself, your kids, your family, your grandkids.... the world without smoking is wide and wonderful!

You are giving yourself the most wonderful gift of life.

You'll be in my thoughts as you journey to a non-smoking life. It is hard, AND you CAN do it.

Hugs!

I think she likes the word beach because of the prestigious aspect of it all (as in how many times have we been here already?) Most people go to the beach to feel the sand between their toes and the waves lapping at their feet, taking in the air, the smell, the spray, and the magnificence of it all. The sun rising on the horizon with a beautiful display of colors. She never sees that aspect of anything. I have always heard that seeing the grand canyon was a life-changing event, but to her it was a waste of space. She barely gave it a second look.

Exactly. "WE" visited 'family and friends'? Who exactly is 'we'? Kate infers it is she and the 8 children. More than likely is was Kate and her boobies. Kate and Steve. Kate and Mr Loaf Eater. Kate and one child, likely Mady. And WHOSE 'family and friends'? She infers again it is the children's blood family, but Kate would tweet these exact words if she drove an hour to pick up her fresh supply of self-botox and ran into the doctor's wife and daughter helping with filing on a Saturday afternoon.

If Kate had all 8 of her children with their family and extended family all day yesterday, she would have been tweeting up a storm about HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY JOYOUS JOYOUS JOYOUS AWW AWW AWW all day long. If for no other reason than to show the 'family' how Tweetie-Important she is.

And only ONE tweet to proclaim her exhaustednishess? Tolerating her 8 children all day long in a public gathering would be worth 4 #busyandexhausted tweets last night, and another 6 for today. It's after 1pm! Where are the tweets about yesterday's FUN FUN FUN, SKINNED KNEES, DIRTY CLOTHES OMG!, BUT HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.

Unless of course, a car load of nannies took the kids to wherever, kate arrived later in her sports car, flapped strutted and cackled, left after an hour, and the nannies deposited the kids directly into bed and the end of the day.

I just saw a commercial for Chobiani kids yogurt. The commercial features Jennie Finch, pitcher for the women's 2004 gold medal winning softball team. I decided to look her up and what do you know? Aside from being just adorable, she is a very accomplished and decorated athlete. She is the married mother of two boys, 6 and almost 1. Last November she ran the New York Marathon in 4:05.26- 4 months after having a baby AND.... she raised $30,000 for the New York Road Runners Youth Program to boot.

Hey Kate? Suck it.

Dwindle, Mrs. Malaprop -- I'm glad to hear that you were unscathed by the storm. I was lucky in more ways than one. I live in a newer development, so we don't have any mature trees (normally, I HATE that). My baby trees have lost most of their leaves, but are young and flexible enough that they didn't break or lose branches. I still have a roof on my house, although I think I lost a few shingles. I managed to find a vacancy at a Red Roof, so the room isn't costing me an arm and a leg, and even managed a room with a frig/microwave. Ordinarily, I'd go stay with friends, but they are in the same boat as I am, and have more than one pet, so they can't pack up and go elsewhere. I was concerned about you, Mrs. Malaprop, because I know there was a lot of damage where you are located. Thanks for the offer of help. I think I'm okay. Maybe the local Red Cross or Salvation Army can use some donations. There are going to be some people in a world of hurt. I'm just thankful I have the resources to weather the storm (Pun not intended). BTW -- where did you have dinner? IMO, we have 2 of the best Mexican restaurants in the Central Ohio area!

My father was a very heavy smoker, and it killed him. My mother never smoked, but lung disease was a contributing factor in her death, and I'm a life-long asthmatic. Smoking takes a toll on the smoker and all who are around them. Dad tried many times to quit, but just couldn't manage it. Ironically, it was the Navy that caused it. He didn't smoke before he enlisted, but they were given free cigarettes, and the stress of being in a war zone (he was stationed in the S. Pacific during WWII) made heavy smokers out of many of those sailors.

I've been in 3 productions of "The Sound of Music". It is NOT an easy musical. The song and dance routines are very demanding (especially for someone like me, with 2 left feet). I doubt Mady is up to the standards of the show, at least at this point in her life. None of the other kids have shown any evidence of musical talent or desire to act, IIRC. If this is KKs dream for Mady, she's out of her everlovin' mind!

Calling "The Sound of Music" an all-time favorite movie? The recent flurry of tweets about the Van Trapp family?

Suddenly it all makes sense:

"The Sound of Music" is coming to NBC [...] No air date has been set and casting will begin immediately."

Complete story at this link (shortened via Bitly):

From article:

There is no more talented and creative producing team than Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to bring Rodgers and Hammerstein's final -- and most beloved -- collaboration to network television in this groundbreaking live telecast."

LOL. I can hear Kate's rusty old wheels turning: Starring the beloved Von Gosselin family.

My mom's sister was a heavy smoker and when she was diagnosed with lung cancer my mom asked her when she was going to stop smoking. Her answer, "the doctor said I could continue." I thought my mom was going to throttle her. But she continued to smoke and died less than a year later leaving behind a daughter. Sad.

I would like to comment on Gather's stories. The writers for Gather , in my opinion, are such lazy people! They get one sentence from her twitter, take her word whether it's true or not, add a couple of personal comments and wham they're done! How much do they get paid for their stories because personally i wouldn't pay more then 99 cents!! Do they actually work for Gather or do they freelance??

Don't they have any pride?? I always worked so hard to be the best teacher I could possibly be! If I was a writer I would want to write stories where I would expose her lies, confront businesses that give her freebies when she is a
multi-millionaire, or her lack of giving back to a community that gave her so much!

I can't believe they get paid for that crap because if I was their English professor I would give them a D for content and effort !!
--------------------
The Gather website is hardly a source of true journalism. I don't mean to offend Sue Buddy or anyone else who writes there, but these are not professional journalists by any stretch of the imagination. It's like the Examiner websites, these are just ordinary people who have chosen to write about whatever they fancy.

Gather and sites like it certainly have professional writers who maintain columns, but that's the exception.

In depth stories are not what they offer. They don't have press credentials and would have a hard time being granted interviews because to be a writer for Gather is not the same as being a writer for salon.com or The New York Times.

This is why the quality of many of the articles is terrible; because they are not being written by professional writers, are not properly researched and don't go through an editing process.

As far as them getting "paid" it's laughable what these people make. And sites like these drive down the wages of professional writers because a lot of these sites and even more legitimate sites would rather pay a non-pro peanuts for sub-par content than a decent writer a living wage for well-written work.

Thanks for all the tips to quit smoking. I hesitate to even bring it up because I know smokers are social pariahs now.

############

Jessica, I don't know if anyone has suggested this (been away, and haven't read through all the comments), but it really helps to find a new activity to distract you while quitting -- take up a new hobby or craft, walk or exercise more, even get a book that you train yourself to pick up and read a paragraph in each time you have a craving.

Some people also wear a rubber band on a wrist and twist it or snap it gently when the cravings hit, or pick up a smooth, soothing pebble, or wear a special ring to twist so that they have something to touch when they want to reach for a cigarette (or those extra calories, this stuff works for eating better, too).

The idea is to have something positive to do when the cravings hit, so that the focus is on something other than "no smokes".

Good luck! You can do it, and it's a great gift for your family and for yourself.

Thanks for the heads up about "The Sound of Music" casting. It all makes sense now. Poor Mady. Kate would live to reap the benefits from being her daughter's manager. No work and she gets a paycheck. Like I said before, she's been grooming Mady and the child wants to please her mother.

Pink,

Thank you.

Some deaths are harder than others to endure... I would much rather have had her around until she was 97, a non-smoker, dying of a worn out heart than the death she had.

But in the end, dead is dead. I try most days to think of the good times rather than the loss.

Every once in while, like today, I am moved to whine a bit. I wish I had known better 30 years ago to eat more healthy, but I can only change now and hope for the best.

It is very uplifting to hear about someone like Jessica who is trying to quit.

It can be done! Jessica, you will be so happy with yourself. And you can be proud, too. It's hard to quit smoking. Hard, hard, hard......

I think it takes 1-2 generations for significant change to occur. As a nation we have to endure deaths like my mothers so we can learn to live more healthy lifestyles.

Just as we are now learning about eating healthier foods, and the resultant improvements in health and quality of life.

Change takes time.

We'll all get there eventually.

Gosh what a storm! We only lost power for 3 hours, but my son and dil have been told 5 - 7 days before theirs will be restored. Our neighborhood sustained quite a bit of damage. Personally, we were very lucky. Lots of debris and some very large branches. Some of our neighbor not so much. The neighbor just east of us (I live in a sub suburb and houses are not close to each other) lost 3 large trees - including the 2 that flanked their driveway. One was actually uprooted and fell blocking their driveway. Just missed their house. One neighbor had a large tree uproot and smash their roof (and deck and hottub). Neighbor just west of usf us lost several large trees - my hubby is over there as I type using his chain saw to cut up that tree.

Clocked winds here were 80 miles an hour. Boy was it LOUD. The TV weather radar usually shows the green/dark green/yellow/orange/red on the storm bands. This time there was a purple AND a fuschia. Hubby had been working on our pop-up camper. When it looked like the fuschia cell was bearing down on us we ran outside to put the camper down... in the nick of time. 3 minutes later the power was out and the winds hit. Mother Nature was not happy about something!

After my last two Debby-Downer posts, I'd like to change the tenor, if I may...

I've discovered a new author who writes such fun books - Blaize Clement.....

Her protagonist, Dixie Hemingway, is a pet-sitter who stumbles into crime situations and uses her early career as a police officer to solve the crimes. Set in Siesta Key, Florida, her stories make me want to retire there!!!

No one dies horrid, gruesome deaths (although one could say 'dead is dead'), the plots are sufficiently squirrelly and she has lots of dogs and cats to liven the story.

Her books are just plain fun to read. Easy and quick beach reads, if you know what I mean.

Highly recommend.

A couple of her titles are 'Cat Sitter Among the Pigeons' and 'Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund'. I think she's written about 6-8 books. Working my way through them all now.

But it is a relief to hear you are in a decent Red Roof, with your kitty, and a little fridg and micro to boot. And clean sheets and AC!!! I wish there were something I could do to help those who are displaced right now, or in dire straights with the heat.

I believe that Kate was jealous of Jodi and Kevin. They had a stable marriage, apparently did okay financially, and Jodi was just plain nice. I'm sure the fans loved Jodi and Kate knew it. Thus, all the nasty comments about the interviews Jodi and Keven gave on television. That "green-eyed monster" is just ugly, isn't it? I had to laugh when I read about Kate taking the family to visit family and friends. She says a lot of things to try to impress us. It's not working.

Permanent Name -- I LOVE Blaize Clement's books. Dixie's backstory is so sad, but the books are fun and sometimes very funny. Unfortunately, we lost Ms. Clement last year (at the age of 78), so savor the books she left us. "The Catsitter's Pajamas", which came out in January, is probably the last book. Clea Simon has some good pet sitting books, too. You might also try Linda O. Johnston's pet sitter series. Another good series is Cynthia Baxter's Reigning Cats and Dogs. Her character is a vet with a mobile clinic on Long Island.

Dwindle -- I'm sure the Red Cross and the Salvation Army would welcome donations. The Cincinnati area was hit even harder than Central Ohio. It's scary to think about what could have happened. Sadly, I learned earlier today that a fellow cat breeder/exhibitor died when her barn collapsed near Zanesville on Friday. Her husband barely escaped. Kiwi -- I'd forgotten that you're a fellow Buckeye. I'm glad to hear that you're okay and didn't have any major damage.

Fidosmommy -- It's been reported several times that MADY says she wants to be a vet. Sounds to me like she has a flair for the dramatic and some talent, but that the big career dreams are Mom's and not hers. If so, there are many ways she can use her abilities in the community -- school choir and drama groups, church groups and choir, community theater -- without making it her life's work.

Jessica: The way I (and my poor, abused, forced-to-quit-after-me husband did it lol)was Zyban or Wellbutrin used along with nicotine gum/patches at the beginning. I went to the Doc and got the script, he gave me Wellbutrin because my insurance wouldn't cover Zyban but they're the same. I took it for a week and continued to smoke as normal. Then one morning I woke up, slapped on a nicotine patch and I swear, I never craved nor smoked another cigarette again. This was over ten years ago. I had tried before with just the patches and gum but just could not do it. It was the combination and I swear by it. My husband used the same combo and was able to quit for good as well. I've since became a nurse and have recommended this to a ton of people and it's worked for them too. Some people are put off by having to use a rx antidepressant (classification) but if that's what it takes to get rid of this killer habit, it's well worth it.

BTW I continued on with the Wellbutrin for six months post quit. My husband stayed on for about six weeks and neither of us had side effects when we stopped the meds.

Good luck and you can do it. You'll be amazed at how much better things taste and you'll be able to smell a smoker a mile away!

Readerlady - that is so funny you mentioned Mexican food. We ate at Red Lobster because my hubby had a gift card. But I WANTED Mexican from the place right by Red Lobster. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. :) MJ - that's all I'm saying!

This talk about poor grammar made me want to share this with everyone . . . I'm in a Multicultural Studies class right now, and I've had to do a lot of readings on dialects. Someone might have poor grammar, but if it is part of their dialect, it should not be considered a language deficit (ie poor grammar). It is actually a language difference. So when I begin working as a Speech-Language Pathologist I should not think that an African American child has a language delay/deficit if he says "That Tom hat." Because it is an acceptable form in their dialect to leave out the contraction 's for "is" and possessive 's for Tom's hat. But here's the kicker - if the child does have a legitimate language delay, and I determine he qualifies for therapy, am I supposed to teach him Standard American English (the dialect I speak) or his African American dialect that I don't really know? (And it seems like poor grammar to me.) I'm not saying I agree or disagree with what I'm being taught, but it is something to think about. I hear a lot of people in my area use "no more" as in "I'm glad I don't have to do that no more." To me that's just poor grammar, but others would argue it's an acceptable dialectical difference that's deeply rooted in the culture where I live.

I have a Twitter account that has been inactive for years. I regularly get notifications that so-and-so is following me.

That used to mystify me, but then I realized that when people follow a new Twitter account, they often add everyone the "new" tweeter is following to their own Twitter feed.

In other words, they pick up a lot of other Twitter accounts just because their new interest follows them. That's what boosts the numbers on my dead Twitter feed.

None of those people are actually interested in what's on my ancient, dead, Twitter feed. They follow it without even knowing what's there.

If you read that slowly, I think it makes sense. (I think!) Anyway, the point is, the number of "followers" Kate has has nothing whatever with the number of "fans" she has.

I'd shut down my Twitter account, but it's too much bother, since I can't remember the password. I only opened it to see how Twitter worked, and lost interest after about four tweets.

Readerlady,

I just finished Blaize Clements last book... the one about the pajamas... so I don't know Dixie's backstory yet. There were several allusions to it, so I figured it was sad.

Just got the Dachshund one and the Pigeons one. As soon as I read her book I went right online to order all the others! Love online library ordering/holding.

I'm sorry to hear the author died. (Now that is just what I was talking about in my downer posts!) but at least she lived a long life.

Another literary loss is Lilian Jackson Braun. I have all her books, and re-read them from time to time. I do think the quality of the plots declined as she got older, but still good reads. LOVE Qwilleran and Polly :-) And of course those magically delicious and expressive Siamese cats, KoKo and Yum Yum.

Her books made me want to get a couple of Siamese cats myself. Unfortunately, our dachshund would have eaten them. Seriously. But now that she's gone...... who knows?

Thank you all for all the recommendations for authors - the biggest joy in retirement, for me, is the time to read. And free from the library, how can you beat that????!!!! (!? are in honor of our big spending kart)

Kelly,

Way back when, when the Menopause Monster came to my house, I used Effexor XR for the symptoms.

Took it for a year, sailed right on by all those pesky menopause symptoms everyone else was complaining about. No hot flashes, no mood swings, no night sweats, no insomnia... I was a happy camper.

Well, except for those chin hairs that sprang up from out of nowhere... ugh.

Antidepressents given for off-label diagnosis like smoking cessation and menopause symptoms can be very effective and worth considering!

Jessica, don't worry too much about being a cranky gal. Your body is adjusting. Sometimes it's good to be a bitch ;-)........
