Teachers are not to blame for educational lapses when kids are put to work

Stewart, age 12, with Jodi Foster in The Panic Room (2002)
Twilight actress and former child star Kirsten Stewart spoke out this week about her childhood education. Stewart, who has been acting working since she was eight years old, was in regular school until the seventh grade, when it became too difficult to make it mesh with her career: "My teachers became a problem," Stewart said. "They didn't want to do the extra work or put packages together so I could keep up while away. They failed me. My teachers failed me. Not one, but all of them."

Stewart, now 21, has every right to feel like she missed out on a lot not being in regular school, because she did. But it wasn't her teachers' faults. In fact, they were doing the right thing by not accommodating her.

It does not serve a working child's best interest to constantly give them special treatment. Working or not, kids need to learn that in the real working world, there likely won't be any special treatment either. Projects need to be done, phone calls need to be made, and meetings need to be attended whether one is a star, or has a second job, or is very busy at home. Giving a child the impression the world will bend around their needs does them a disservice. If a child really wants to work, home schooling them may be the only option and is a sacrifice they may have to make and live with.
Stewart (in a Twilight hunk sandwich), 2011

Moreover, singling a child out as special can wreck havoc on a child's social life. Mady Gosselin admitted to cameras that some children at school are mean to her about the show (although fortunately, most are nice, according to her). Being just one of the crowd fosters healthy relationships among children during crucial developmental years when fitting in is of primary importance to a child. Singling a child out as different and special and deserving of special treatment for no good reason (as in, they just happen to work and be famous) can sabotage that child's ability to form healthy friendships with normal kids. In fact, many child stars have reported their closest friends are adults they've met on sets, set teachers, and other actors. Age-appropriate friendships can become very difficult to maintain the more immersed a child becomes in that world, and treating child actors differently only makes it worse.

Finally, it's not fair to the educational needs of the other children in the class and at the entire school for their teachers to be spending so much time trying to accommodate a working child who is being pulled out of school. Kristen Stewart didn't suggest she had a learning disability or other special needs that would require extra attention. Her special needs that required extra attention were the result of a choice to work as a child. She could have chosen to wait to work until she finished school, or her parents could have made the choice for her and made her wait. Teachers, whose time is already stretched thin, need to be spending extra time with students who have real special needs, such as learning disabilities or illness.

Stewart is yet another living breathing example of the negative consequences of children working. It's too bad she missed out on regular school, but it was through no fault of anyone but her and her parents' choices.

As to the question whether the coupon photos are staged...

LOL. Are ANY photos of kart NOT staged??????

These photos of her, and all photos since her big cancellation are 100% STAGED and designed specifically to:

1) keep her face/name in the news,

2) set forth any agenda she wants the public to swallow, and

3) refute any 'haterz' chatter.

Everything, absolutely EVERYTHING about kart is staged, arranged, augmented, embellished, manipulated, designed to promote her, designed to refute negative comments, designed to hide realities she doesn't want exposed......... ah, hell, need I go on any longer?

There is not one single iota of anything about kart that is 'real' except her lousy personality and her lack of mothering skills.

I wouldn't be one tiny bit surprised if she was currently trying to get herself a spokesman gig with those stores whose coupons she was holding.

The only credit I give her is that she just won't give up. She keeps on going, and going, and going....

Haha, that is an awkward pose for sure. I was taught not to flash money around in public, but the way those coupons are exposed looks just as tacky. Khate must think she is a shopping genius with those 20% off coupons. No offense to BBB shoppers, but I agree with Admin that their merchandise is marked up and overpriced. My husband and I had once purchased a removable, massaging showerhead from Walmart for under $20. Days later we came across the exact same showerhead at BBB for nearly $40. Had I gotten it from BBB, I still would have overpayed for it with a 20% off coupon. Crazy!

For the record, I doubt she's talking to anyone on the phone, either. I think Khate is one of these folks:

So should I do a post on the poor Duggar kid falling 12 feet and getting the whole terrifying accident filmed? Or Kate's hung over style bag lady jaunt to BBB?

Stupid Is said...

Since you asked, I say the Duggar kid.
Kate is no longer interesting.
Her blog is boring, her outings are typical, her tweets are pathetic and her fans are mentally unstable.

Ignoring all of them would make many people very happy.

Yeah, I vote for the Duggar kid, hands down.

Falling like a brick said...

I vote the Duggar kid. The clip I saw was seriously disturbing and I have a few points I'd love to make about it.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Seriously disturbing for sure. That kid could have easily died and it would all be on film.

Always Skeptical said...

I vote for doing the Kate one because the conversation will end up about Kate anyway no matter what the original post was about.

I'll gladly eat my words if I'm proven wrong.

Bodyguard My A$$ said...

That Duggar kid episode was so disturbing. The kid could have died or been paralyzed and these Duggars are so jaded they all whip out their cell phones to document it for TLC? They've all sold their souls right along with Kate. They are the lesser of two evil reality whores.

Lake Up North said...

I am assuming now with Kate unemployed or going back to nursing, whichever, without her TLC paycheck am I right to say that Kate might oh, I don't know, bemoan that Jon's child support needs to be more now?

Now I'm not sure if Kate asked for alimony or not here but I kind of doubt Jon is going to keep her in the life she is accustomed to.

What I can't believe is the Duggars, may or may not I don't know--have they been given any backlash much for their son's accident being filmed and distributed on national TV or others entertainment? I'm sorry that's not entertainment it should be a disgrace. They should be ashamed of themselves but since they allowed it to be out and public I don't get the feeling they are which is a pity.

@hey jude, for sake of this blog and starting issues best leave personal stories alone. I'd share but it's not worth the drama dear. Glad you enjoyed your Thanksgiving though, jealous of here in the US...I haven't even thought about planning! I haven't even bought Halloween candy yet! I'm terrible.

Marie said...

Kate knows she is having her picture taken, that much is obvious. So she has to flaunt her ability to be crafty and pinch-and-save on coupons, or make people believe she still shops that way. Not even sure if she used those coupons.

Whoever said about the faking phone calls, she's just trying to make herself appear important still. I mean who is there left to talk to? Steve? No like she's talking to friends because those are all gone. Babysitter? Doubt it. Jon? Nope. Parents? Heck no.

As long as she can "act" like she's important the better she makes herself feel. End of story. Makes her more like a fool than anything else.

Besides, I'd enjoy not seeing any comments about the Gosselins for awhile.
I'm so sick of Kate and her pretend life. So....let's move on to another money grubbing family.
I've got plenty to say about them.

Dear Kate-

AHHHH finally!!!! I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting, for some of your homemade “secret” recipes!!! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!! They sound delish, and super easy!!!

Hope you’re able to do a cookbook soon, but for now I’ll be looking foward to Monday blogs!!

From Southern PA,
Kay

Hi Kay-
YAY! I have gotten amazing email responses from many people happy that menu Monday has started! As often as I can get to my computer or phone to write out my recipes, you’ll see them on Menu Monday!

Hope everyone there has enjoyed the newest dinner creations that we are enjoying here!
And don’t forget – make two casseroles (cheesy chicken rice casserole), so you can freeze one! I just served the second of mine last night for dinner and got even MORE “yuuuum” comments this time! Score for mom – woo hoo!

I am still working on a cook book…. A long labor of love! :)

If Kate is even actually still working on that darn cookbook than I must be practicing to become a world-famous pole-vaulter. In other words: ain't gonna happen! Either one because I can't jump worth beans and Kate can't write worth...well, ya know.

Her show is canceled, her books are in donation shops, her DVDs are going for $1 used, she has no new show offers. I think it's time to hang up the ropes Kate and find a more suitable career.

I mean what has this reality show really given her: orange leather skin, a show addiction, a donkey's reputation and a control freak persona.

What as it given her kids: Trips they clearly don't remember, a distorted view of the world, an even nastier mother, a painful divorce, loss of a pet and paparazzi in their face.

I wouldn't call it a win-win here.

Thank you SG. Can't wait, and then it's over too soon.
Add one more vote for Duggar story.

The way Kate is displaying those coupons and the mere fact she's randomly photographed outside BBB suggests to me she might be getting compensated. Didn't she basically acknowledge she does not pay for those Elyssasuzanne (sp?) dresses; which I took to mean she gets paid or receives the clothes for free in exchange for being seen/photographed in them. I often thought she may have something going with Target because she is frequently photographed there but never ever at a competitor. And there were the pics of her this summer in the red shoes and daisy dukes (those images are burned into my brain and won't wash away). She tweeted that the shoes were a gift from Guess. I don't think they were really a gift. And how about her 5 minute face post, which was nothing more than a list, with links, of specific products? Juicy Juice in the lunch box, with picture: looked like an ad to me. Underarmour shorts and Asics sneakers, which she's photographed in a lot and has mentioned on twitter, her blog and while on DWTS. Might be my conspiracy theory button is stuck on, but it goes on and on. I imagine her house is packed with free stuff she's received in exchange for mentioning or being seen wearing/using, or which the companies send out to celebrity types in hopes they will be seen wearing/using them. I mean Lindsey Lohan is never without a can of Coke, it seems. You couldn't convince me that she is not getting something in return for that kind of product placement.

regardless of how I feel about Kate's parenting, my heart breaks for her thinking she has to be so skinny. One of the pictures of her shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond shows her ribs protruding out her chest. She doesn't look healthy, and I think that is sad.

Anyway, when I originally obtained my nursing diploma (in the 70's)you spent a year at college--community or 4 year university--doing a year of pre-requisites before entering the nursing school program. Were all of Katie Irene's pre-requisites done within the nursing school?

Yes. I forgot to mention that we also had to spend a year at a university/college prior to attending the hospital program. In order to attend, I had 36 hours (18/semester) of pre-requisites at a local university. I don't know the specifics of Kate's program, however.

New post about the Duggars....they have without a doubt crossed a serious line with this one. I really can't even believe it.

Even the Gosselins have never filmed the kids in this compromising of a situation!

Have at them in the new thread, they deserve it.

That reminds me of something Clint Black once said about his jeans - now that I can afford them they give to me for free. I guess it is a perk of the trade and one that Khate in particular would sorely miss if taken away.

No, I pasted the link again to make sure it's the same pic. that came up. It is definitely her ribs. It is her chest, not boobs. I see them on her left side. She is angled towards the right and it's her left side. Hope that explanation helps you out.

Yep, ribs.

Clavicle and 1st thoracic rib form the V shape nearest her neck, and the bulge under that is the 2nd thoracic rib.

No she paid with her pity coupons. I wonder, did she use a coupon when buying her children back-to-school shoes too?

I haven't made any caramel apples yet I've been a little busy. Hope you have good weather in Canada. I went camping up in Canada once, back in the early 90s it was lovely. I'd tell you about the moose encounter we had but I won't over share. Too bad you'd get a right kick out of it!

Kate looks sadly...well...sullen might be the word here. Always has to have this scowl on her face its really unpleasant. But she won't care as long as she think she looks Hollywood thin.

Lake, go ahead and tell the moose story,we talk about dogs all the time and accidents with deer, etc. The ones who don't want to read it will use the arrow and scroll down.

I don't think we have to be so paranoid about what we're posting about and I think it was a random comment, not everyone's opinion. Admin. will let us know if we are abusing her blog.If I have to sanitize my posts, I may as well not come here.

It is lovely fall weather here, but the leaves are changing color fast and it gets dark so early!

Dwindle, thanks for the visual of Steve wiping Kate's behind, gag, blech...Glad you're back, I've missed you.Purse holder and cleaner, with rat claws,so effin romantic.....

Teresa, I guess the hat is a sign for all to see that Steve's an armless bird! She should give it to that poster, Flight of the Kiwi.Love that name. She might be telling us that Steve is flying away too, hmmmmm.

We had gone camping across the border in Canada at the time. This moose, for whatever the reason, big female like to run back and forth across this stretch of road, I saw it once then I got filled in by some locals this moose had been doing it for years. We caught a flat tire from a fishing trip on the way back so we're stranded and the moose decides to climb into the back of the truck in the flatbed where it sat and stayed for the longest time.

Ever since my BIL gets something moose for Christmas because it was his truck. Christmas ornament, magnet, stuffed animal you name it. And every year I get, "You are never going to let this go are you?" Nope. On the count he freaked out. "Call animal control!" Moose eventually went on its way unharmed.
