My neighborhood is practicing social distancing..it is spooky with kids playing but only in their own yards- none of the sounds of spring...people are doing DIY projects at home while off school and work. My husband just tried HD for TP ( none) and they told him paint was also low since so many are buying it!

Tried wegmans this morning, shelves were empty. All I need is frozen peas for my ducks. Hahahah they’re divas and won’t eat duck food. They better start liking it. And if the stores don’t stock meats, my darlings will be served for dinner! Kidding, I couldn’t hurt them.

Our Target restocks at night night. I scored water, TP, bleach, Clorox wipes, hiney wipes and hand wipes this morning. Look in the travel size section for wipes. Also, many stores around here seem to have hemorrhoid and “Down There” wipes. I also have a supply of walk wipes (individually wrapped butt wipes for dogs). They’re the same as human butt wipes, maybe a little thicker. Flushable? I don’t know, but any port in a storm.

My Amazon orders keep getting pushed back. I ordered some new Sudoku books on Saturday, to be delivered today...then it was tomorrow...now it's Wednesday. I'm sure they're being flooded with orders right now. We're all planning to stay home for as long as necessary. We got out our stash of board games and puzzles, the boys are going to be finishing this semester online, and I will soon have a new pile of Sudoku books to keep me occupied. We have plenty of food and other necessities, prescriptions have all been refilled. We're all ready...bring it on.

My courthouse is shut down for three days. Nobody in. I’m speechless. I just can’t even imagine how a Foster kid is going to feel knowing the hearing he’s been waiting for for six months so he can have some answers about what will happen to him isn’t coming. Emotions are a range of shock, anger, understanding, sadness.

I think we might consider handling this like the U.K. Everybody over 70 go underground. Everybody else business as usual so we don’t put the economy in the shitter.

It's horrible for the foster youth. There are many people being hurt by this. But it's also hard to imagine the kid not able to visit his immuno-compromised parent in the hospital...unless mom or dad is about to die and then visitors are allowed. These policies are trying to prevent that situation from multiplying exponentially. No matter what decisions are made, there will be armchair critics and those armchair critics usually aren't in positions that require them to make such tough calls. It's easy to make decisions in the hypothetical.

The UK changed its tune today and is now promoting social distancing for everyone vs. telling the elderly to "go underground." The US approach is aligned with what the rest of the world is doing. Early on, the messages were much more mixed and there were conflicting guidelines, but at this point the public health experts are coalescing their support for these deep social distancing measures. I'm going to rely on their expertise since I'm not an epidemiologist. I'm guessing that all those screaming about how this is over the top aren't epidemiologists either.

I’m not sure the evidence is all that strong that it works. Even the so-called experts are changing their minds constantly which doesn’t give One a lot of confidence in them. Good luck everyone see you on the other side.

By the way to clarify it seems you took my comment as opposing it. Not necessarily. We came into work today and the general consensus with a few exceptions is that we trust our presiding judge we support the call and we will do what we can to weather it with the least amount of damage. I heard very few people saying don’t do it. In fact the opposite, I watched the court’s social media this weekend get flooded with calls from employees to shut down. And at work today it became quickly apparently that the stress of being at work was outweighing any benefit to continuing on in person and that we are better off leaving and doing what we can from home. And so we have as of tomorrow.

We’re shocked and sad but it doesn’t mean we aren’t standing together on what the authorities feel we must do. There is a great can do attitude right now and spirits are high. They had so many people volunteering to cover for those who need to stay home with their kids that they had to turn down volunteers. (And Thank our lucky stars you get paid either way so there’s no Incentive to Volunteer other than your own good heart)

In happier news, DIL was able to score a couple jumbo-sized cans of Sully's formula on Amazon. He has to have a special formula for his sensitive tummy, so that's a big relief to all of us. DS/DIL always keep an extra can or two on hand, but that only lasts for so long. Yeah, Amazon!

Social distance. Stay inside. Order in. We will get through this! I have to go back to work tomorrow as an essential worker and there's no good way to social distance there. I've seen on social media posts with the mantra, "I stayed at work for you, you stay at home for us!"

WHO had the test and we didn’t. South Korea was mass testing and we couldn’t. Donald Trump and this administration's delay in testing will cost American lives.

&&&&

I'm not sure what you mean. The WHO did not offer us tests and never were going to offer us tests, and the US did not "refuse" tests from the WHO. The WHO was focusing on countries that had much more fragile medical infrastructures and higher cases, and were funneling tests to them. Meanwhile, we were working on our own tests so why be a selfish country and demand the WHO help us when we were perfectly capable of doing so in house? Teamwork is essential here and the richer and more capable countries like us should not be selfish, and we haven't been. There are much more shocking and worse stories out there that should make your blood boil. For starters, Germany, which has very low numbers, HOARDED medical supplies and refused to give them to Italy who was desperate, until the EU basically forced them to turn them over to a country darn near SUFFERING. Where is the outrage over this? People in Germany actually are outraged at Merkel and she's been blasted for days over this, though it doesn't seem to make news because she's not Trump.

I have no idea what in the world Biden was talking about when he said we "refused" WHO tests, but that statement has been debunked nearly everywhere on the internet by just a quick google search away. It's simply not accurate. He is a nice guy, I assume he was simply confused or had bad information or his people misunderstood what was going on....bit scary for someone asking to run our country anyhow.

Funny how when San Francisco put in what seemed like over the topsocial distancing measures a couple of weeks ago your advice was not to listen to crazy people. Guess they weren't so crazy after all, just ahead of the game.

&&&

The problem with SF is that they didn't listen to the requests their authorities made to voluntarily social distance. They did whatever the hell they wanted. So, they had no choice but to order the lockdown. And by the way it's hardly a lockdown, you are even permitted to go out for a hike. I read the ordinance and the exceptions to it are three pages long.

In contrast, in LA, they're telling us as long as we follow the rules the chances of ordering a lockdown are very low for us. And that's the problem with people who think they are above the authorities and don't have to listen to requests and advisements in an emergency. SF was and continues to be one big embarrassment.

&&&

That is true, sadly. Angela Merkel, who is basically a democrat, is getting NO criticism for withholding supplies from Italy. It was so bad the EU had to intervene and force her to turn over her supply to a country in need and stop hoarding. Can you imagine if Trump did that? He'd be led to the electric chair. Make no mistake people like her are not morally superior, self righteous as so many of them are. In a real emergency, who they really are comes out and it's never what they claim they are.

Seriously she should go to hell for that. Real hell. God knows how many Italians died because she didn't want to help her neighbor.

My grocery has not had meat for a week. They now open at 8am, which is when most of us essential worker folks are either going to work or logging on to the laptops to work from home, begin answering emails and taking calls. We can't be running around a grocery store fighting the crowds. When we finally knock off in the evening, everything is picked over at the store. My Walmart hasn't had pickup/delivery grocery available for a week. Total shutdown.

None of this is the grocery store's fault, but it is the fault of people being selfish and hoarding when they've been told repeatedly it is not necessary.

Good thing I have a lot of vegetarian recipes in my wheelhouse, but in a real emergency we are so freaking screwed.

They're hashing out the details, it could be anywhere from a thousand bucks to much more. It likely will be phased out after a certain income but it's also likely that income limit will be high.

I'll take any Trump hater checks as surely you wouldn't take cash from the enemy.

I have stayed out of political discussions here and elsewhere because I am definitely not a Trump fan. However, he has stepped up to the plate during the corona virus issue and taken steps to help the country. I'll give credit when credit is due and he deserves it. I still think this is all blown out of proportion, and I refuse to hoard because I do not want to be selfish and add to the problem that many are having just trying to get necessities. Stores here have food, but they are limiting the amount people can buy if certain items. I've seen people people put the groceries in their car, and then go back into the store to buy one more each of the limited items. I almost did this with the toilet paper last week, but thought about it and refused to. We'll get by if we stop thinking only of ourselves, but of our community and the other people we share it with.

The family is handling isolation well. Some have to venture out for work, but the rest of us are staying in. A couple sons are interested in learning to cook and bake, and now that my knee is feeling better, I'm happy to pull up a bar stool and teach them. Today we made French bread, their favorite, from scratch. We're serving it with spaghetti carbonara (how's that for a double-whammy of carbs?) and salad. We all get to eat together, which is rare (DS who is in the National Guard gets to come home nights until they actually start testing patients). We're making the most of the "together" time. Sully is loving his big audience, and has started crawling (at only 5 months!). He has his own cheering section. DH and the boys have raucous, marathon games of Risk, and I'm re-watching all the episodes of Midsomer Murders from the beginning, one episode per day. I really think this is going to be for much longer than 2 weeks. So far, so good.

Just stopping by to share something from one of my favorite writers, Mario Vittone. Former Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, maritime safety consultant. This is for folks who still think coronavirus concerns are exaggerated.

"A short parable about perspective for a dear friend:
On October 8th, 2018, a man stood on Mexico Beach in the Florida Panhandle. There was a light breeze, it was 80 degrees and fair. There was no evidence of anything wrong at all in the world. Sure, the National Weather Service, local news, and every cable news channel were reporting that a Cat 5 hurricane was about to hit and it would devastate his town, but as he watched the neighbors packing up, boarding windows, and leaving in a panic he told them "Hey, look around, it's not raining here. There is no wind! Have a little perspective!"
Friends, I know it may seem extreme to go full lock-down when there are no cases of the virus immediately around you, but when every expert in the world tells you a hurricane is coming, you prepare. You do not look our your window at the sunshine and dismiss the warnings. No cases in your area? Awesome - keep it that way. Because every expert in the world is telling you that they are coming and will devastate your town."
This was illustrated with a photo of a devastated Mexico Beach after the hurricane. no building was untouched.

I went to Jewel after work today to try and get toilet paper that was supposed to be delivered last night. However, the shelves were already empty. My real surprise was just walking in the store. Our state now has to shelter in place, and for the 1st time, all 8 cashier lanes were open with 10-12 people in each line, not to mention the 4 self check-outs. I turned around and left. The Lord will come through and we'll survive.

You know I realized these kids are on at least a two week closure and stuck home with Kate. That's a LOT of time at this age to be with your mom. I wonder if it will speed up self reflection. I also wonder if during a crisis, during scary times, some of them might start thinking back on everyone they've really loved in their life, including their dad and Collin and Hannah. Sometimes it takes something drastic for people to come together. And they're old enough now to do something about it if that's what they want.

Unsettling..? But you said you'd rather catch corona than the flu? Be careful what you wish for.

&&&&

The issue now is not enough medical facilities if, and that's a big IF, we become Italy.

Try to keep it in perspective and stay calm. There are some hard hit area in the US almost all in high density population areas. But most states only have a handful of cases. One state only has five.

In LA, there a re less than 300 people that have it in an area with FOUR MILLION. Of those, only two died. One was elderly, one was young but had asthma and recently survived cancer. The media got inside my head this week but when I was ordered to report to work yesterday I had a heart to heart with what was left of my rationality and realized with so few cases, the odds I would even encounter this thing at work were still extraordinarily low, especially if I social distanced, disinfected my work areas frequently and washed my hands. And I went a whole day without touching my face (Try it, my god the little itches I felt all day, by face was BEGGING for help)

In LA, there are only 2 people currently hospitalized. TWO. So when the media tells you hospitals will be overrun, but you only see two whole people in the hospital, and everyone else is fine to be treated at home, you can breathe.

In a crisis, it's good to stay calm and rational and keep looking at the numbers and less at the media, who love a good hysteria story. We're not Italy, we likely won't ever be Italy, it is good to be cautious, but optimistic.

Even in Italy, a whopping 92 percent of cases never even needed to be hospitalized.

By the way for those in the LA area, you are still far more likely to be murdered this month than die of COVID. I imagine most of us don't walk around petrified we are about to get gunned down.

We severely restricted movement way ahead of the game, which is good. Unless the experts are completely wrong, which they could be, we have prevented calamity by doing so.

What happened in Italy is that the residents were so upset about local businesses being hosed that they decided to rebel and there was a movement everywhere to keep on visiting them, spending money, and ignore the government. This sentiment was certainly well meaning and not a deliberate attempt to hurt anyone's health. Of course we know how it turned out.

I am angry about the economic devastation this will leave, devastated. So are so many others. We can be angry though, but still listen to the authorities and not visit those establishments.

How much does it cost for a Trump supporter to become a socialist??
About $1000

&&&

Economic stimulus cash during a severe crisis is not a new thing and has been done by both Bush and Obama in the past. This is not a new idea, not something invented by a socialist, it's been done for over a decade in grave emergencies and works.

I don't think most Trump supporters are so militant that they oppose funding during an emergency. In fact that's pretty much the core tenet of Republicanism, that you don't dispense government funding UNLESS it's a dire emergency. I'd say this qualifies, don't you? And that you HOLD BACK doing such drastic measures during times of prosperity so that when the moment comes you actually do need to do so, you have plenty of money to do so. I think that's called frugality? And maybe even financial responsibility?

In any case, my income is going to be too high to even get it and that's fine I don't need it, but for anyone who hates Trump, I'll take yours. I know some great charities who could use it.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Nobody knows how many cases there are because of testing delays, so it is actually not rational to assume the risk is very low. There is a happy medium between panic and denial.

$$$

And yet only two people are in the hospital. I don’t think most people in Los Angeles are in denial. Our city is a ghost town. People are following the orders. If I were in denial, I would ignore the regulations. I wouldn’t bother to not touch my face, sanitize my hands and work area frequently, and rush home from work as ordered as soon as our hearings finished. That is the behavior of someone who is cautious, dutiful, but optimistic.

There are a lot of mental health resources out there to support people like you who have become basically become obsessed and consumed by all this. Take them. I’d also suggest using this weekend to plan something productive with your month. Read a great book, find a pretty hike to explore, plan a trip for next year, build something, cook something new. Watch something intentionally on Netflix. Turn off the news. Trolling, not helpful to your mental state.

We waited in line as the gloved and masked volunteers sorted the cars. More people were there to donate than there were families in need.

I am child-caring for a 3-year-old because his parents are scrambling to make arrangements. They both have essential jobs.

My hubby is the early morning "shopper" with a list of items provided by our neighbors who are health compromised.

The driveway chalk messages of faith and cheer are just beginning to show up around here.

Small efforts -- but all indicating a willingness to be of service. Thoughtful. Kind.

(Meanwhile -- we have a troll(s) here who are spending valuable time ragging on comments posted. Please -- take that negative energy and go do something soothing.)

We realized being home all the time means we could FOSTER a dog. Many agencies have shuttered with all dogs in fosters until further notice, but others were still left mid-stream in need of fosters.

We are talking now with an agency about a dog who came from a hoarder. They want him to have a yard and a brother and I said CHECK!

My mantra is as follows: we might never have this time again until retirement, do something GOOD with it.

For years my hubby has been known for his "Dog's Breath Chili". (Seattle's Best Cookbook). Guests would request it -- especially in cold Midwest weather. It is a rainy 50+ degrees here today and seems kinda' chili appropriate.

This morning, hubby was able to buy 6 pounds of the 3 different kinds of meat needed for the recipe.

He is chopping and dicing and browning meat right now for a huge batch. He may reduce some of the spices for this batch. He plans to distribute warm batches of chili to our neighbors.

He is delightfully happy to be cooking. It isn't all unselfish!

Admin, what a great idea to foster a dog.

Good luck. I hope the dog is so precious that you can't help but to fall in love.

Layla said...

I love hearing stories about people coming together at this difficult time for the common good. And I love Admin's idea of putting up Christmas lights! We could use a little cheer, something to make someone smile as they pass by or look out their window.

I was so proud of my boys yesterday--our next-door neighbor has a serious heart condition and a big yard. His lawn service cancelled on him, so (without being asked!), three of my boys went over to prep his yard for spring. The yard service had dumped off flowers and bags of grass seed, and left it there. He also had some new Adirondack chairs that needed to be assembled, and they took care of that for him, too. I was so proud of them! Youngest DS and I are thinking about baking cookies to distribute to the neighbors. We're not sure if they'd want to accept them because they don't know whether any of us have been exposed, but--I think it's a nice gesture. We all need to come together for the greater good at times like this.

Mady seems to have inherited her mother's "look at me, look at me!" personality. Let's hope she's a little more savvy than Kate--nobody wants to see #superfuncoronavirus popping up on anyone's social media. It's probably a good thing that Kate's staying away from IG. She either doesn't understand what's appropriate during trying times, or she's been so desperate for attention in the past that she does something idiotic just to make people acknowledge her.

Wow, did anyone else notice how much Joel looks like Jon now?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Another benefit of fostering a dog, it legally allows you to gets you out more for those of us on shelter in place. Shelter in place has exceptions for pet store visits, vet visits, etc as long as you maintain the 6 feet rule. More social interaction will fight the boredom.

It's the CDC that is actually advising not to test people and to just stay home and treat yourself if the symptoms are mild. It is overwhelming to even the most perfect of health care system to be flooded with thousands of people who only have what essentially amounts to a COLD. Unfortunately, the media has people so out of their minds that every random 40 year old in perfect health is wandering into hospitals requesting tests for a sniffle. This is what is going to cause deaths more than anything else. For every mask and glove set they use to test somebody for their sniffle, that's less for someone elderly and frail. And it should scare everyone that over 90 percent of covid tests are coming back NEGATIVE. Wth! Stop going in for a sniffle!

"At this moment, the current guidance -- and this may change -- is that if you have symptoms that are similar to the cold and the flu and these are mild symptoms to moderate symptoms, stay at home and try to manage them with rest, hydration and the use of Tylenol," Harris said.
That advice does not apply if you are over age 60, since immune systems weaken as we age, or if you are pregnant -- anyone with concerns about coronavirus should call their healthcare provider, according to the CDC.

Dmasy,
That sounds like the kind of show I'd like! I'll check it out. And yeah, I was pretty pleased with my boys. When they go out to shovel in the winter, they always run over and do our neighbor's driveway too, but this was a much bigger job--and they didn't hesitate. Sounds like your hubby is one of the good guys, too. It's so encouraging to see your loved ones doing things for others out of the goodness of their hearts, isn't it? I think this crisis is bringing out the best in some people. There are plenty of people and animals out there who need help--let's all step in and try to make a difference to somebody who needs it.

Thankfully though there have been zero deaths in Montgomery County. And only TWO in PA total, statewide. It is not dire, yet, and hopefully won't be. By the numbers though you are right, Montgomery County has been hard hit. Percentage wise, they actually have more cases than L.A. And the exhaustion is real and in all essential workers. I saw on the faces of workers at court who never stopped working even though they were "shut down" to the public, who managed to take an operation of 30,000 kids, 900 a day in court, and grind it to a screeching halt of only 60 or so kids a day. Like trying to stop a freight train. Some of them haven't slept all week.

I'm not sure anyone said it's a joke. I think people are just trying to weigh what is the safest and most rational response that saves lives but that doesn't trash the economy or destroy lives worse off by doing so. For are part, we are PETRIFIED kids are going to be put at risk because of this, hurt or even killed. I think there is a real sticking point here in that for over 90% of people the illness is mild. I actually think there would be so much more agreement over all this is this virus was MORE dangerous, not less. But it's in this weird limbo where it's just not all that dangerous to the vast majority of people it infects, but very dangerous and deadly to a few. For some reason some people don't want to hear this and demand that we NOT weigh things when decisions are made, and yet in every other facet of life we do a cost-benefit analysis. If we did not do so, we would have banned cars, because cars are very dangerous and deadly to a few. The discussion will continue.

Where that line is is hard to find when we know so little. But, joking is okay too as this is stressful and keeping a sense of humor promotes wellness. People are in fine form. My favorite is how who knew Netflix and Chill could actually save mankind.

So...in the midst of the recent health crisis, our blog troll chooses to be upset about Admin posting in all caps on her own blog? Really???? Hey little troll, my son who is in the National Guard is working 12+ hour days helping to fight this crisis. My youngest sister is a nurse and is also working crazy hours even though her type-1 diabetes puts her at high risk. You, Troll, claim to be an RN, yet you are spending your time on this blog instead of working hard to help others. You choose to get upset about Admin posting in all caps when people are dying. I guess that tells us all we need to know about you.

Things are getting dicey for our local hospitals. There are now Uber drivers who have been hired by hospitals to drive around to various businesses and buy up gloves, masks, and sanitizers, then deliver them to the hospitals--including Johns Hopkins. That's scary. This pandemic is still in its early days, yet there are already shortages of necessary supplies. I suppose they could be stocking up for what is coming, but it's still worrisome. Our nation's hospitals are anticipating (or already experiencing) shortages.

According to Mady’s Tic Toc account, it sounds like Aaden is mainly in charge of making dinner for everyone nowadays. M shares texts exchanged between the two of them. On a daily basis, Aaden texts M and asks if she wants beef or fish for dinner. She replies a few times that she doesn’t eat meat. Another day Aaden asks her what she wants to eat. She replies that she’s out at Whole Foods with Kate. My guess is Kate’s sitting in the car. Mady shares with him that “mother” wants him to bring the dogs in at 6:45. What’s with the exact time?
I think it’s very odd that an almost 16 year old boy has been put in charge with feeding the whole family.

It’s odd and terribly unfair. And sadly not shocking. He should be at baseball or soccer practice and come home at 7 to dinner waiting for him then do homework. Of course that was during normal times. Now it’s covid where he can’t do those things, but a good mother would put her teenagers on a soft schedule to keep things as normal as possible. That would include several hours devoted to school, several hours devoted to recreation outside as the weather gets warmer or games inside, time built in to chat and speak with friends to keep up their social development. Thank goodness they have each other, this is terribly hard for only children.

No he should not be tasked with the burden and time of getting a large family fed every night.

Clack said...

What a useless piece of trash! What kind of “mother” has a 16 year old prepare family meals? She wrote cookbooks (I’m choking on that) she supposedly knows how to cook?
And i thought she couldn’t pay her bills just a few years ago? So why is she shopping at Whole Foods? Sounds to me like she has plenty of money to live. Maybe since she doesn’t have a job she ought to pay it forward. Maybe volunteer at a soup kitchen? Hand out food to kids out of school that don’t have the means to be fed at home? A lot of people helped her when the kids were born, that’s the least she could do.
I know, she would never! That’s beneath her!

I guess the one silver lining is her son is learning to be self sufficient.

Many kids like these will grow up and come to the realization how unfair their childhoods were. And then have years of work to do in therapy to deal with that.

Stay safe everyone, we will get through this!

Clack said...

Uh oh! Hopefully you’ll be fine. We are on a stay at home order. Personally, I wish they would close the food stores to the public, just do curbside delivery. The stores are packed!

These poor kids will spend their hard earned money in therapy.
When my kids could reach the dials on the washer and dryer, I had them do their own laundry. Not for everyone, just themselves. Because I would wash folded clothes I knew they hadn’t worn. 😡😡 it never dawned on me to have them run the household while I did nothing. That to me is child abuse. It’s way more then a teen should be doing.

Colin is amazing boy! I should say man, he’s more mature and thoughtful then some grown men I know.

If you look at the dates on those dinner-announcement texts, they all seem to be about a week apart. These were last year, and there were 6 kids still at home. Maybe each child was assigned one night per week to cook. I saw an interview with M&C where Mady was saying she was looking forward to NOT having to cook huge pots of food and scrub huge pots, so we know she was cooking too. If Aaden was cooking every night, he would know that Mady doesn't eat meat. But if it's only once a week, then he might forget--hence asking her if she wants chicken or beef. Still, these kids have carried enormous burdens practically since birth. They have been responsible for supporting the family financially, they have always had an inordinate number of chores at home, and they attend a school that Kate says is very academically demanding and requires a lot of work. And then she makes them cook besides? What is she, the unemployed stay-at-home mother, doing with her time? She had the twins doing her grocery shopping and she has always had helpers to clean and take care of the property. She's overburdening her kids while she sits around doing nothing, it seems. I do think she finds manual labor beneath her, but apparently it's not beneath her kids. Reminds me of the RV trip where she demanded that the crew "stop playing we're filming a TV show and get some real work done". They were doing their actual jobs, but to her they were just laborers there to do her bidding. Now that they're gone, it's her kids who pick up the slack. Typical. Didn't Kevin say that even as a child, she was always trying to get someone else to do her chores? She hasn't changed.

Absolutely. I think everyone involved in managing this thing knows it's going to be much longer than 2 weeks, but the general public cannot cope with the possibility of prolonged isolation. So they tell us 2 weeks. After that they'll revise it--maybe 2 more weeks. And then again. It's obvious that we're going to be "social distancing" for a very long time. But not everyone is well-equipped, psychologically, to handle that kind of stress. Meanwhile, we have so much to worry about. People dying. Children being left in abusive homes. Animals left without caregivers. It's a scary world out there.

I saw the story about Bindi Irwin. She seems to have grown into a surprisingly well-adjusted adult. Maybe because she has always been devoted to wildlife conservation, a specific purpose outside of herself to focus on. She has always had something to be passionate about, which I think is a healthy thing for any child. Or adult.

Since many of us have a lot more time than usual on our hands I highly recommend reading The Diary of Anne Frank. Read it again if you have already. Not only to give some massive perspective in that we will be FINE with our Netflix and comfy homes. But also to see the similarities. And you can see the psychological benefit of feeling like it will be over soon. And once you hit the date you thought it would be over you find it in you to go longer to the next unrealistic date.

In her diary there’s so often hope that the war really is not that far away from being finished. Just a few more months. Definitely by the holidays. Won’t go much past Passover. Surely by the summer. It’s what people needed to get them through, something to shoot for.

Los Angeles is perfectly safe if you’re sheltering. I think there’s something like less than five cases in the Malibu area which is certainly where they are if they’re here. Local reliable reports from Malibu for awhile are saying they’re looking at houses. The only reason I got quarantined was because I was put out into the general population to work with the essentials when everyone else was ordered to be home. If I were home that never would have happened.

Reports are Harry really wants to go back to the UK to be with Prince Charles who has covid but Meghan is against it. I’m betting this is a compromise. They’ll go to be with her mom.

jolie Jacquelyn said...

I saw the report In The Daily Mail that Harry wants to go back to London to be with his father. Why would he want to? They say Charles has a mild case of the virus, , so why would Harry expose himself & potentially his wife & child?

Those UK papers will print anything to make Harry, & especially Meghan look bad.

I mean, I'm sure ANY son would want to be with their father who has Covid! This is not exactly breaking news. But it's silly to go back to be with him since he's being isolated anyway. Good grief. William can't be with him either, he's also being shuttered away. Have to protect the line. Many, many of us around the world can't be with our parents because if we weren't initially living with them when the shutdown happened, we're not allowed to then go live with them. Many places allow you to check in on them, but many of us are opting to do checkins digitally in an abundance of caution.

I did read an article the other day though that was saying after Covid, one sort of feels bad getting so worked up over where Harry wants to live. Live wherever the hell you want.

Also, Canadians were NOT on board with paying for their protection at all. Wonder who's paying for them now?
Healthwise - makes no sense at all. I am very familiar with the area they were - extremely secluded, and very much a small town feel. Has anyone seen any recent pap pics of them there? No!

Fair enough, but there is no way they are paying for it all themselves. They came to Canada because it was a commonwealth country, and they assumed they would have the usual protections afforded to the Royal family. The Prime Minister knew they were in Canada before anyone else did. That was very clear in their initial announcement in January of being somewhat half in/half out.
They're rich - like all wealthy ppl they will have all the additional perks afforded to them, whether they pay for them or not. I personally believe that someone is helping them afford this lifestyle, and it's not the royal family. I think they've both been terribly misguided in how they handled the entire debacle. I also think the world will be a very different place for them in their potential to generate income as high paid speakers, after this global crisis is over. Could anyone imagine any company paying potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars to them for motivational speeches when we will most likely be in a global recession (which is hopefully short)?

Malibu is not a remote island. People flocked to the beaches and hiking trails last weekend. The claim that it is impossible to contract Covid if you are "vigilant" is simply false. Obviously vigilance lessens the likelihood, but it is hardly "impossible."

$$

People flocking to crowded beaches and hiking trails weren’t being “vigilant.” I would note though we were told repeatedly by our mayor and governor last week that hiking was fine, encouraged and safe. They were wrong, and have since retracted that. The beaches and trails have since been closed in all of LA and beyond. There is no place to hike now. The Greater malibu area which included the entire Santa Monica mountains only has six cases. There is no way to even tell if a single case is in Malibu. In any case, I can’t see Harry and Meghan prancing around beaches and hiking trails right now Especially since none our open, in which case they will be perfectly safe.

I pray that your daughter and everyone involved are okay. It's scary to know that, no matter how vigilant you are, it's possible to be exposed no matter what you do. People are still working and coming into contact with others, bringing germs home. We just have to do the best we can and hope it's enough. Keep us posted on how everyone is doing!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Obviously, but that is not the point. Those non-vigilant people were in Malibu. Any Malibu resident out buying grocery staples could have come in contact with the virus brought in by an "outsider." The idea that Malibu is somehow an oasis immune to Covid is patently false.

$$$

Now you’re simply being illogical. This disease doesn’t float up from a beach to a mountain mansion and seep through the doors. It’s contagious like a cold from a few feet away and on surfaces. Therefore if I’m in my mansion on a hill overlooking the beach, as sources say they are, it doesn’t matter if there are two people on the beach or 2000. You’re not gonna get it. Unless you yourself go down to the beach, which they won’t be doing anyway because beaches are closed.

In any case this thing may not be as contagious as the media wants to get us in a tizzy over. Neither I or the twenty other people quarantined have gotten it after spending two days with an infected person in a room no bigger than my living room. We are now two full days past the average day people get it, day 5. We are either just some 20 lucky bastards, or the media wants to work everybody up into a tizzy to keep you watching. After all that’s come out about how wrong the initial estimates were, I’m going with the latter.

We are an emotion driver species easily frightened and as a result, a whole lot of people are getting their lives destroyed and not by a virus.

Malibu is safe. Vancouver is safe. Both are equally safe. There are several hundred people hospitalized in Vancouver. There are less than a hundred hospitalized in L.A. Perhaps that's why they came to L.A.--safer, actually.

By the numbers, the surge in LA if you call it that is on the west side. There are FOUR cases in my town, and it's been holding steady at under 4 since this began.

Facts matter.

I’ve found the best thing to do is look at the numbers and stats. Listening to news from any side of the coin is very hard to trust and even if it’s not an election year people still are loving the ratings. I have found however that The Wall Street journal has been fairly decent so far.

For one example, death rates are almost completely unhelpful right now because most people with mild symptoms aren’t getting tested. Therefore LA’s death rate of 1.8, which is very low to begin with, is likely much, much lower because people like me who have been exposed could actually have it and are never getting counted.

That’s where numbers and math are on our side. Yes we are to wait 14 days, we have, and we will. But the average day people see symptoms is day 5. We are all now right at day 8 and 20 people have not come down with it. While it is certainly possible someone might show symptoms very late into this, it gets unlikelier the longer away you get from day 5. However we could all be ghost carriers who never come down with it, but still transmit it, which is why the 14 days is really important. I just think many of us went into this somewhat jarring news with the foregone conclusion we’re screwed, and that’s just not turning out to be the case. That’s where too much news come in. You don’t necessarily catch coronavirus because you hung out with an infected person for hours and days as I did. It’s not a given. The news certainly led me to believe that’s true.

The other niece also works in a hospital as a Pediatric physician in Florida. She has 3 children and as now at home.

One person has died in our hometown in Texas.

Prayers and hope ....

I have asthma so I can really feel for those with trouble breathing- it's a horrible sensation. It is hard to isolate a family member within the home

There is growing dissent now even from the New York Times that maybe shelter in place was just about the worst thing we could do. Some households have more than a few people in them and everyone shut away inside with each other passed it to each other. And yet here we are still doing it.

Right, it would be so much better if those people were out and about and spreading it to others. /sarcasm

The overwhelming majority of public health experts believe that sheltering in place is the right thing to do. Glomming on to 1 or 2 naysayers does not change that. It is really no surprise that you would say that since you are also a climate change denier. Typical Trump supporter who is against science.

$$$

It’s not one or two naysayers. It’s prominent politicians and scientists and entire countries. Do you think social distancing is working in places like NY? It’s so bad there they might have to be placed under a federal quarantine. And everyone’s doing the distancing.

There is a concept called herd immunity I’m sure you’ve heard of. Entire countries have adopted this model including The Netherlands. It does not work however without mass testing. Look at Germany. However Germany also benefits from a very young population which is partly why Italy’s numbers look so scary, because their population is old.

I ask you again, is social distancing as we are doing it now working? It’s not. Time to wake up and change the plan to a more targeted approach.

Basically all the news this weekend is how literally everyone is talking about moving away from social distancing and moving toward targeting outbreaks. It’s not one or two people, anonymous. It is the entire plan of attack currently being hashed out. Even the WHO now will is saying social distancing was one big fat failure that literally did nothing except buy a little time and does not cure a thing. Here’s the top story in The Washington Post this morning:

Mike Ryan, WHO head of emergency programs, recently urged countries to focus on finding and isolating infected people and their contacts. “It’s not just about physical distancing, it’s not just about locking down,” he said.
Many experts’ recent proposals for a U.S. strategy have similar stressed the importance of large-scale contact tracing — because it was a cornerstone for successful efforts like South Korea and Singapore.
Some epidemiologists in the past considered contact tracing on large-scale impractical and unhelpful once an outbreak has become widespread in a community. But as countries have shown success with it against this coronavirus, that thinking has changed.
In a recent paper, Marc Lipsitch, a leading epidemiologist at Harvard University suggested that while such contact tracing is “impractical now in many places but more practical once case numbers have been reduced and testing scaled up” and “could alleviate the need for stringent social distancing to maintain control of the epidemic.”

CC said...

Social distancing didn’t work because people weren’t listening. They still aren’t. People didn’t talk it seriously until the numbers started shooting up in their home community. And you still get parents who are saying let kids be kids and let teens hang out in the street together, or play in the park together.

How do you trace the contact if people aren’t limiting their exposure by practicing social distancing or staying indoors?

&&&

And they weren't willing to enforce it. You HAVE to enforce it. Our governor and mayor flat out said when they ordered this that it was basically a suggestion and that nobody was gonna get arrested. Oy VEY! The second you tell your teenager well this your curfew but if you don't follow it nothing will happen, are all teenagers really going to follow it? Come on.

The other big problem is that when they told us to lock ourselves away in our homes and sent kids home from school, they sent all the ghost carriers home to be around their older relatives. This resulted in mass infections among whole families. A privileged one-percenter like Andrew Cuomo may not fully appreciate that most lower and middle class families live with grandma and grandpa, great auntie and uncle, cousins, take care of great-grandpa because they can't afford a nursing home, etc. Especially in places like NY and LA. Catastrophic failure and now we've trashed our economy to boot. Also? All this was based on a really scary number from SOME scientists claiming millions were going to come down with this. The scientists have since explained they were flat out wrong and to please disregard what they said. Disastrous. Way more people died than should have because of social distancing. Time to get back to work and make policies based on data not crystal ball predictions.

“ A Different Decision-Making Approach
There is still tremendous uncertainty on what exactly needs to be done to stop the virus. Several key aspects of the virus are still unknown and hotly debated, and are likely to remain so for a considerable amount of time. Furthermore, significant lags occur between the time of action (or, in many cases, inaction) and outcomes (both infections and mortality). We need to accept that an unequivocal understanding of what solutions work is likely to take several months, if not years.”

Even Trump has finally conceded that the experts are actually right and has extended the social distancing requirement to April 30. Please Admin, stop spreading fake information about what WHO and the rest of the experts are saying. Social distancing has proven to work when followed properly, but there is a lag time in the numbers.

&&&

Confirmation bias. It's not proven to work at all. Italy and Spain are in true shambles and all they're doing is social distancing. And don't say lag times, they've been doing it FAR longer than the 14 day quarantine period. And everything should be questioned, gone over, second guessed in an emergency. The LAST thing people should be doing is blindly marching like ants to orders when even the experts admit they don't really know what they don't know. When seriously major players like Cuomo are wondering if we truly f-ed this up by social distancing, I pay attention.

All that said, we have no other choice as it's the only thing we can really do. We have to do it. We have to try. There aren't many more options until mass testing is ready. At that point though even most experts agree we MUST pivot away from what we're doing now.

However it is extremely important, crucial actually, that we don't fall into a confirmation bias trap about the methods we are using to deal with this catastrophe. Even if the numbers start to go down, they could rise up again. We're only going to have one shot to get this right.

Trust me I'm following orders. In fact I'm doing more than what most of you are doing, I'm doing a full on quarantine for 6 more days because I got exposed. But I can also read, have read variety of mostly mainstream sources, and believe you me, there is NOT agreement from the experts on social distancing.

So after Kate was caught filming the kids without work permits and without informing Jon, she tried to get the court to keep Jon from speaking about it, because speaking out "shed negative light" on her and TLC. Well, I think it should negative light on both! They filmed children even after work permits had been denied and after she was ordered to NOT film them by the courts. But she thinks that Jon was in the wrong by talking about it, instead of her/TLC being in the wrong for doing it. Then she said that Jon speaking out caused K+8 to be cancelled and "left the network unwilling to continue its relationship with Mother". Gee, maybe TLC realizing that she put them in legal jeopardy by filming illegally was the problem, not Jon talking about what she did. And of course, if she didn't do anything illegal, then Jon wouldn't be able to call her on it. Then she went on to say that Jon was trying to "stall or thwart Mother's ability to film and earn any income". So...he should have kept quiet and allowed her to keep breaking the law? Once again, filming is more important than anything else--the law, the kids' well-being--anything.

Well, I guess that means she really was fired by TLC. I truly hope that she never, ever films again. I said for years that I don't care if she films something on her own--like a dating show--as long as the kids are left out of it. I have since changed my mind. She does not deserve to ever film again. And the fact that she tried to have the court gag Jon--she hates the fact that, after all this time, he can finally speak out--just makes me wish even more that no network ever feeds that massive ego again. She doesn't care who she hurts or destroys as long as she gets in front of a camera. I want the cameras gone forever.

She also provided a Daily Mail article where he accused her and TLC of filming the children “against his legal right.”

Kate claimed the articles “shed negative light” on her and the TLC network.

$$$

That’s correct Kate. Negative light was shed on you and TLC. And?

Hi there everyone. Just a quick check in to say hi. I was 'Concerned Aussie' but not so concerned anymore about the welfare of the Gosselin children. I really think now that they will be ok. What struck me the most looking at Mady's Tiktok account was how very normal these kids are. Ordinary kids doing what kids (including my own) are doing to pass the time while dealing with the extraordinary circumstances
we're all dealing with right now.
I think the Gosselin children seem to be quite resilient and although they will work through their individual issues as they get older, I think they'll be ok. Or as ok as any kids who've had to deal with growing up in a dysfunctional family.
Collin in particular is amazing. A very old soul who has a strong purpose in this life. He is on a mission. What that is will unfold as he gets older.
Keep safe, everybody and we will come out the other side of this xx

The quotes from Kate in that article in The Sun make it clear that she's trying to get back on TLC's good side. She doesn't want Jon to speak out against TLC and doesn't want him to expose TLC's wrongdoings. TLC had just fired her, yet she is obviously trying to cover up not only her own actions, but TLC's actions as well. She remembers what happened the last time they fired her. She spent almost 3 years begging for a new show, and nobody else was interested. She got lucky when TLC gave her another chance. She's hoping and praying that they'll do that again because she knows no other network will give her a show. They wouldn't when she had all 8 young kids and Jon was under a gag order. Now she only had 4/6 kids, she's solidly middle-aged, her reputation is in shreds, her shows' ratings were crappy for years, and Jon is allowed to speak out. They won't touch her.

If she really does need an income, this is the perfect time to dust off that old nursing license she has kept current all these years. She won't even have to worry about the cost of child care now that the 4 youngest are turning 16 in a few weeks.

It's kind of weird that these two stories are coming out now. This countersuit of Kate's was filed in October and dismissed back in December, and I assume it was part and parcel of the ruling that she had to pay Jon's attorney fees of $25K. Wasn't it? Is it that someone has only just now gotten a look at Kate's October filing?

Also, Kate's claim that she thought TLC was getting the permits is laughable. I mean, that had been HER responsibility since the beginning. And in this case, there was that letter in June from PA saying specifically that permits had been denied---is she claiming that she wasn't aware of that? Always amazes me that she thinks she can get away with lies that are so easily proven.

A MIT researcher has found that COVID can travel twenty seven feet. Twenty seven feet! In other words, six feet of social distancing is a whole lotta junk science.

Mexico only started doing social distancing a few days ago and still have very few cases. This likely has FAR more to do with their warm weather than anything else. Same with colder cities in Washington, Illinois and New York struggling far more than places like Los Angeles which is experiencing 80 degree weather right now. Only .07 percent of Los Angeles has this in a population of 4 million.

So we can all continue to live like under house arrest and trash the economy but the evidence is mounting it doesn’t help.

I’m sure that the 27 feet is for sneezing/coughing without covering your mouth/nose. The social distancing of 6 feet is precautionary measures IMO. I’ll take it because it’s better than nothing. As far as the warmer weather goes, there might be something to that because the flu always seems to die down in the summer months. I carry lens wipes with me when I go out and wipe down the machine before using it to pay. The right amount of alcohol? Maybe not but it’s better than nothing and easier to get a hold of than sanitizer wipes. Our local grocery stores are wiping down everything between customer uses and they’re wiping down the carts for you before you go in the store. When this is all over I’m going to order a party platter from my store and tell them to put it in the break room as a thank you.

So Jon is still the scapegoat all these years later?

"She accused Jon of trying to “stall or thwart Mother’s ability to film and earn any income.”

It's too bad she can only make money on TV. It's not Kate's fault she got too famous for regular jobs. lol

"Kate accused him of trying to “publicly embarrass” her and “tarnish” her reputation."

You did that to yourself, Katie Irene. You're just mad because Jon is not powerless anymore.

Warm weather is our biggest hope right now. There are very few cases of this at the equator.

Almost an entire choir got this thing after a rehearsal not because they were within six feet of each other. Many weren't. But because they were all doing deep breathing and projecting and putting the disease into the air.

Yes, six feet is better than nothing but by no means is it safe. This thing is airborne. But anyone who tells you they know exactly what to do to stop it doesn't know what they're talking about.

And it's just such a ridiculous statement. Jon didn't touch her Kate Plus Date crap to the extent it didn't involve the kids. Have at it, film away. He only objected to portions that included the kids. He also has done nothing to stop her from earning income in any other manner that doesn't involve filming their kids. Have at it.

No one is buying her spin. And really it's to the point where no judge will buy it either. There's some bad judges out there but not that bad.

Loved this:

Kate thinks that Jon speaking in interviews about Kate being an awful parent somehow gave viewers the impression that she's just awful.
If she wants to know the identity of the person who convinced fans that she's no good, she may want to try looking into a mirror.

Not to mention that there's some preliminary indication that the Bay Area's early adoption of shelter in place may be flattening the curve. It's too early to know for sure, but there are promising signs. You're warped enough that such news probably disappoints you, since you proclaimed that SF officials were "crazy" and that no one should listen to them. Perhaps it is you who no one should listen to.

$$$

I would be so relieved if they have flattened the curve. There is no point in doing this if it doesn’t do to see MAYBE it works would be the biggest relief to everyone. I am a critical thinker, not evil. Worst case scenario is we do all this and it doesn’t work. Then we’ve not only ruined everyone economically but we haven’t made a dent in the disease.

The numbers also might be looking slightly better because like almost all diseases this thing has a natural ebb and flow and peaks when it peaks regardless of what we do.

However the governor is urging everyone to not jump to conclusions on any progress. As he knows being a smart man, one or two days of better data doth not a success make. It could be and sadly is likely to be a statistical anomaly. Statistics and probability classes are your friend. Harvard is offering some of theirs for FREE right now. Take some classes during all this. You’ll feel better about yourself.

It's insane to think that, after she defied a court order and made her kids film after they were denied work permits--she actually wants the court to gag Jon (again!) and also make him pay her legal fees! The nerve of her! She just cannot take responsibility for her own actions--to the extent that she doesn't believe that anything she does is wrong. In her mind, she's not wrong for doing it--Jon is wrong for calling her out on it. Thank goodness the courts sided with Jon. Fame, money, and TLC created a raging, self-absorbed, narcissistic monster. It's almost unbelievable, yet it's true.

Interesting that she asked for $3500 in legal fees, while Jon's legal fees were only $1500. She must have a wickedly expensive lawyer. Good. I hope all these legal skirmishes bleed her dry financially.

Looking at the timeline of things, Jon requested that H&C's trust funds be turned over to him in May 2019. In mid-October he filed for contempt because Kate hadn't done that. She responded on October 30th saying that he hadn't provided her/TLC with account numbers. In December the court sided with Jon and ordered her to turn over the money. I wonder if this latest news means that she still hasn't complied. We saw the paperwork from the December hearing. There was nothing in there saying that Jon had to supply her or TLC with anything, so if she's still holding onto H&C's money, she is in contempt of the December order. She's playing such childish games with all this. She just can't give up control of anything and she's going to keep refusing to comply until she gets in some serious trouble.

Also--judging by the quotes in the latest stories, she's trying to get on TLC's good side. She wanted Jon gagged from saying anything negative about TLC, or saying anything that sheds a bad light on TLC. This is the company that just fired her. Why kiss up to them unless she's hoping they'll take her back at some point in the future like they did before? I'm sure she remembers what happened the last time they fired her. Almost 3 years of begging for a show got her nowhere. She got lucky when TLC gave her another chance. Now, of course, she's solidly middle-aged, she no longer has 8 young kids to offer, the ratings for her shows have been crappy for years, and she's proven herself to be untrustworthy and a legal liability to any network that works with her. If she doesn't somehow convince TLC to take her back yet again, then she's done.

Remember when she said she wanted just one more chance to "gosh, just hit it out of the ballpark"? Well, she got that chance. She failed miserably.

I'm sure that reassuring to the people in Australia which has been fighting coronavirus since January, which is the middle of their summer.

&&&

End of summer. They are well into autumn right now, the start of flu season. The more you know. They have also been hit WAY less harder than the rest of the world, with only 9, yes NINE deaths in a population of 25 million. Italy has had 10,00 deaths, population 60 mil.

There is no denying warmer, dryer climates are getting way less of a punch with this, including Los Angeles.

Go to about the 16-minute mark and she talks about the current criminal contempt situation. Kate is once again in contempt and is avoiding service. Someone has been actively trying to serve her the contempt summons since January and every attempt has come back returned. So...is Kate refusing to accept the summons? Is she hiding out to avoid being served? I also wonder what the contempt charge is. Did she fail to hand over H&C's money? Or is it something else? It is now a criminal contempt of court case. It's possible that a warrant could be issued. Why is she doing this? Seriously, something is very wrong with her.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Throw it on her doorstep, she's served. It's not the movies where you can walk around slamming doors and refusing to be served. This woman is a menace. She really is getting desperate. I fear locking her up could make things even worse, she'll come out with those nails all mangled and roots showing completely deranged. This nonsense is a nice distraction from Rona however.

Layla said...

Oops, I was wrong on the time--go to about 13:15 and it talks about the current (criminal) contempt. I suspect it's because she didn't turn over H&C's trust fund money. She was ordered to do so in May 2019, and she hadn't turned it over by December. If she was found in contempt in January, then that's probably why. It's been almost a year since she was first ordered to turn over the money, and she still hasn't done it. I think she decided to keep it for herself after she banished Collin and Hannah chose to live with Jon. She never intended to give them their money, and is probably furious that the court could order her to it over. Losing control is her worst nightmare and she will go to jail before she'll let that happen. She wants to make H&C pay, and this is the only way she can do it.

Layla said...

Hmmm, I wonder how much she has taken out of the kids' trusts over the years. I don't think she has been making enough off the show to cover so many years of living expenses. Just think--since May of 2014 she has filmed 30 episodes of K+8 and 6 of her dating show. 36 episodes at $40K each (doubtful that she was still making that much toward the end with such bad ratings, but who knows?). That comes to $1.44M. That is before taxes and social security and before any pay the kids received. Then you have to look at the amount of money she spends on battling Jon in court. It's been an ongoing thing for years. And then she had a new roof put on the house, she claims to have paid for the new deck...there's not much left over, especially when you remember that it's been 6 years, and consider how high her living expenses must be. She has to have been helping herself to the kids' money--I don't see how she could cover all of that unless she did. That means she may have a lot to hide. Just speculating, of course, but it makes sense.

Also, if she’s hoping that TLC will give Mady a show she’s in for a rude awakening. Mady’s TicTok is nothing special and not nearly as creative as some that I’ve seen. Mady is just phoning it in.
