@blueskyhaines don’t u think i messaged her ???? i mean I’m commenting to let her know because she has tons of fans and most likely tons of message requests so I’m putting it out there and letting her know thx for ur commentary tho! 😌

IF this is for real, s/he could only have lived with Collin. Wonder what this person thinks they're going to say to Kate Gosselin. I hope s/he realizes that no reply will ever be forthcoming.

Kate also called them crew daddies so people would not think it was weird for the kids to be alone with the kids, or film them during intimate private moments.

Andrea (#2), I agree. Schmoopy figured there'd be nothing wrong with leaving her toddler alone in a room in the dark with his pants around his ankles with a dude with a camera if you label the guy a "crew daddy." Holy cow, these kids are going to have boundary issues.

That's typical Kate. In an effort to make something seem normalized and not weird, she just made it look MORE WEIRD.

Like how she told the kids to tell the judge they need filming to survive. Um, that just makes this whole situation look MORE dysfunctional, you dumbass. And the judge didn't buy it, thank god.

That one was just creepy. It makes sense if they say they need the show to support their lifestyle, but to survive? As if they'd all perish without it? Alarm bells must have been ringing in that judge's head. Also--the kids have trust funds. They'll be able to go to college and have careers. They'll be just fine. If there's anyone who can't survive without the show, it's Kate. She just loves to claim poverty to justify filming. She's made millions off the show, so the only possible reason she "needs" to film is to feed her ego.

The kid's first mistake is thinking Kate cares what he and Collin went through when they were incarcerated.

The nice thing about family law that this judge I'm sure is aware of is the law assumes what job you COULD get, not what job or not you actually have. So if you waltz in with a perfectly adequate nursing degree but try to claim you need to film a reality show to survive, the judge is going to tell you this is the salary you COULD earn or are "supposed" to earn as a nurse. Therefore, you aren't in dire straights at all. The law can be wonderful like that.

I wonder if Jon will ever publish that book he spoke about.

We all know Kate as published books up the ying yang here for years, not all that well apparently.

Admin (#7), you silly goose! You forgot that TFW can't take a nursing job because she would spend more for babysitters than she'd earn! So filming is the only way she can put food in her almost-16-year-old babies' mouths! She's said that so long she may actually believe it.

Just saw this post. It looks like Jon may be in the process of writing a memoir about his nasty divorce from Kate . While Mady seems to be enjoying her social life away at Syracuse

I find it interesting that Mady’s reasoning regarding not seeing her father is because he talks about them publicly ...he had a gag order for 10 yrs. the only one who was on the talk show media circuit lying about them for 10 years was their mother. Maybe she will recognize how she’s been conditioned by her monster mom to hate their father since toddlerhood now that she’s on her own and loving amongst normal peers

She'll almost certainly realize it, though it could be many years before that happens. The problem is Kate really can't hide who she is, and eventually the fallout will come Mady's way. Mady is around her far more often than the TV cameras were and is directly affected by her. Her day will come.

While I would be very interested to read a book from Jon's perspective about the marriage and the show etc, not sure it would be the best thing for the kids.

I would read a book by the kid(s) themselves when they are older and mature

I don’t know about Mady figuring her out? If she’s the golden child, she won’t really see Kate till Kate finds a replacement. That’s been my experience with narcissists, there’s always a golden child.
And they suffer from delusions of grandeur so in her mind she’s a huge stah!
Kate, you’re most definitely not! You couldn’t act your way out of a paper bag.
I can’t wait for Jon’s book!

RE a book from Jon: If it is sanctioned by H & C and approved as a good thing by their therapist to give them "settlement" then okay … great. If it will even in a small way benefit their other siblings in the "clarity department" then okay … great. If it is seen as Jon speaking up & putting his side of the story out to contradict the many lies of Kate then okay … great. If it needs to wait to be published as H & C & J and the other kids works through all their stuff then okay … great. Time is everything as is intent. What we want to know re their situation should never be an issue for Jon.

Happy Leap Day!

I was just thinking...next Leap Day in 2024, the G kids will all be legal adults. TFW may get the empty nest I'm convinced she's dying to have. I think she wanted babies, not children.

But I still wonder if she's grooming someone to be her ally who will stay home forever. Maybe she should call Michelle Duggar to see how she got Jana to stay.

Ironically, the little boy TFW threw away probably would've been her biggest helper.

It's so heartwarming to see how Jodie has turned her life around and seems to be doing well now. We're only a few months apart in age, so I'm one of those kids who "grew up with" Stephanie Tanner. And was shocked and saddened to watch her spiral down. She really struggled with addiction. And this was a kid who said that the set was a great environment, everyone was terribly kind to her, it was pure fun. I think she will always be fragile, I remember her ex was accusing her of having relapsed only just last year. I think now as an adult having the structure of the TV show and steady work has actually helped her.

When she was a kid it's a different story. It was fun, but it gave her a very dysfunctional childhood.

By the way side note, Kimmy Gibler is my neighbor. In real life!!! LOL. Not right next door unfortunately. Never thought as a kid watching that show that would happen.

In keeping with the 80's sitcom theme...this morning I saw Lisa Whelchel (Blair from Facts Of Life) at a farmer's market in Los Angeles. She was holding a baby -- maybe a grandchild?

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Admin (#20), and I still say at least Jodie and her castmates had the luxury of leaving their characters behind when the cameras stopped rolling. The G kids were "playing" themselves. And they didn't get to leave the set and come home after a long day of filming. Their set WAS their home.

BlueJay said...

I do wonder if the Gosselin children, the younger one's or all of them perhaps with the statement from Jon that they have to film, given that, that they, when they become adults will find it difficult, like children on television shows will be in that same boat as Ms. Sweetin. To suffer that hardship or spiral afterwards of difficulty because without filming they don't know who they are or something to that?

It certainly to me feels that way to Kate's end. She seems to be the one suffering perhaps the most without filming around in that way she can't cope. I'd hate far more for her children since the set was their home contrary to her having painted a rosy picture I doubt very much filming was that way at all with her constant screeching ON camera can't have been that way OFF camera.

One of my daughter's one day came out of her room to go to school and was dressed, well, so mismatched I thought certainly she had gotten dressed in the dark one of "those" outfits. The type that hurt your eyes you think what in the world have you done to yourself? I told oh come on you can't go out in public like that go back and change please, for me spare ME the embarrassment. Like a lot of children back in the 80's Full House was one of the hit shows. And my daughter says, "But MOM...This is COOL, I'm SUPPOSED to wear this, ok?"Apparently I missed the Gibbler crazy outfit reference. Oh not that I didn't see some, I saw. I just never expected to see it in my own house. I let her walk out of the house and I thought to myself maybe nobody will know with our common last name she belongs to us. Not that I didn't support individuality it was just she looked like a walking limesicle crossed with polka dots and I don't know a baby blue knit sweater a polka dot socks. But the orange shoes were a nice effort I suppose...

capecodmama said...

BlueJay...24. Your post about your daughter cracked me up. My six year old granddaughter picks out her own outfits and they are doozies but as my younger daughter said, “I have to pick my battles” and what she wears isn’t one of them right now. As long as her privates are covered, we’re good. My granddaughter is very independent, (just like her mother so I sit back and chuckle under my breath), and she’s a real girly girl. So we’ve got every color under the rainbow paired together. I love that she’s a free spirit.

I wonder what she's telling herself now to justify her refusal to work. She has always blamed the kids--they are the reason she can't work a normal job, they are the reason no man wants to be with her. But finally she may be at a place in life where she can't out the blame on them. She can work whatever job she wants (except, apparently, TV) because child care isn't a problem. Besides, the 4 youngest will be off to college in a little over 2 years. They won't be around to film, they won't get in the way of any job she might have, and they won't be an obstacle to her love life. Gosh, what will she do when she can't hide behind them any longer? She'll have to take the blame for her laziness and nasty personality herself. No more blaming her meltdowns on stress. What stress?

I can't believe that Jon will sell many books, as most people have long ago moved on from him and Kate. Is there anything really new to tell at this point? If Kate hadn't divorced him, I truly think Jon would still be with her to this day..abuse and all. He also would still be happily filming, as he didn't seem against it at all until Kate banished him to the garage. Also, he seems to be actively seeking out media of any kind...just has a need to be in the lime light for some reason. Can't see that, as his new life seems to be a happy one?

OT, but how is everyone feeling about the Coronavirus? Is it going to become a big thing in the US? My doctor said that if it moves into my area I have to be on quarantine (I have lupus, and therefore I have a compromised immune system). I've been stocking up for the possibility of being stuck at home. Today at Costco there were dozens of people who were obviously prepping just like me, and we were chatting while waiting in the interminable lines about our "just in case" stockpiles. Which is very unusual because in the DC area, people don't chat with strangers in line at Costco. It was kind of refreshing. I'm trying to be ready because DH might also have to be quarantined (he had cancer years ago), and my sons...well, I love my sons to distraction. But if I send one of them to the store for milk, bread, and cheese, he'll come home with Snickers bars, Cheetos, and Mountain Dew. Best if I just make sure I'm prepared before anything happens. Anyone else prepping?

A good thing about the coronavirus, for some strange reason, kids are rarely getting it. This is good.

This x 1,000. I was shaking my head this Wednesday at the grocery store. People were stocking up on toilet paper like it was never going to be manufactured again. Same goes for hand sanitizer. Costco actually had to limit the amount one family could buy. I also saw someone wearing both a surgical mask and a particle mask.

My work has a travel ban in place. Anyone who has been to specific countries in the last two weeks must work from home for 14 days. Visitors from those countries can not come on site. The company has a lot of international locations. We get lots of visitors from those sites.

I am not too concerned. I wash my hand and don't touch my face. It's the first line of defense. I have asthma so I am working with my doctor to keep healthy.

I didn't say I was being prevented from seeing my family or that I was prevented from traveling. As I said, I won't see them if the conference is cancelled because if that's cancelled, the trip is cancelled. That is because family member won't be traveling 1500 miles to this state to the conference, a location that just happens to be halfway for many of us, as said family member will be instead required to go into her office and work regular days locally.

My husband had a doctor's appointment today and according to him there is plenty of cause for concern, but there are drugs that are normally used to treat malaria, that are showing promise in fighting coronavirus. I have a nurse friend who long before this said the best thing you can do during flu season is as soon as you get home from being out is to thoroughly wash your hands and to use a saline sinus spray. It is also recommended to drink water every 15 minutes and zinc lozenges are supposedly a good defense. Don't know if any of this is good advice, just passing it along.

Shelter in place if your doctor recommends it. Live a normal life if he doesn't. Do the same thing you would do in a bad flu outbreak year, like 2009.

The vast majority of people develop only minor symptoms even people not in perfect health. For the vast majority of people it's just like a minor cold.

..............................................

That they know of.

I'm sorry your trip was cancelled, but maybe the company doesn't want to be held liable. Or just feels it's not worth the risk.

Hopefully it was "for nothing" and they will reschedule it soon and it will work out for you to see your family.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I'm sorry your trip was cancelled, but maybe the company doesn't want to be held liable. Or just feels it's not worth the risk.

$$$

No one is going to be held liable. Under what legal theory? What unnecessary cancellations are doing is getting people worked up into a frenzy for nothing, contributing to the economy stalling, and arent doing a darn thing to stop the spread. We really are idiots when it comes to outbreaks which is a bit scary in a real crisis.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I personally find the panic level unwarranted, but I can understand canceling a conference from a liability perspective.

$$$

Liability under what legal theory is this? There is none. Fear mongering is just as bad as the disease itself as it can cause panic, looting and economic dives. Already has. Lots of people from all sides of the aisle including medical experts are now saying everyone calm down and please try to live normally unless you’re in or from a high risk area. As per the usual we don’t listen. Like little toddlers.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I'm not a lawyer and am not in a position to argue legal theory, but a quick Google search revealed that many lawyers disagree with you about there being no liability.

&&&&

If you're in no position to argue legal theory then why are you proposing legal liabilities? An employer has a reasonable expectation to keep employees safe, but given that they are fear mongering over a state that hasn't had a single case of this (though oddly, has had about FIFTY regular old flu deaths in that very county, including a CHILD), any lawsuit would fall flat on its face. It's also a voluntary expedition. If you don't want to go, you may stay back and simply go to work. And that's what they should have done, invited those uncomfortable to stay back if they like.

For example, if the conference were in Wuhan and they forced employees to go, you might be onto something, counsel.

Fifty flu deaths including a child in that county. No cancellation, happy happy joy joy the conference is on. No deaths over coronavirus and the whole thing is off. People really are stupid.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I'm not proposing anything. I simply stated that I understood why an organization might cancel a conference due to liability concerns. Those concerns exist, whether or not you agree with them. Time will tell whether claims will be upheld, but to state uncategorically that there is no legal ground is contrary to what some other attorneys are saying. Go argue with them.

&&&

I'm sure some lawyers would love to spread around that they could sue for you. That brings them more clients and more money. Those of us who are ethical attorneys let our clients know when they have no case. Such as here, there is no case when you simply hold a non-compulsory event in a low risk to NO-risk area.

If they want to cancel it because they are scared for their employees, that's another matter, but it is a groundless one. Can't blame em for that, a lot of people have tried their very hardest to try to scare people, watch the stock market tank as a result, and then point fingers at people they don't like. It's a whole other level of sick to use people's DEATHS to try to get back at somebody.

Let's review the numbers again, fifty people died of flu in the county where the event was to be held, including a child. Wouldn't a company be worried about THAT liability? The fact is, they weren't.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

People also are really whiney. Your employer-sponsored family vacation is off. Get over it and pay your way if it matters to you. My god.

&&&

Huh? Everyone WAS paying their own way. What are you talking about? How on earth was I to get somebody else's employer to pay for MY trip? The issue is the family member we are meeting up with is not coming because now the family member must report to the office in another state. There is no point in meeting up in a central location to meet this person when said person is not even coming now. Huh?

Nobody is whining. We are a family who loves each other and take every opportunity we can grab to see each other and are disappointed when we can't. That is not whining. That is love. This is simply an example of how fear mongering effects people it shouldn't, not a whine fest.

Or have you not worked a day in your life or had a family? Oh dear.

&&&

No idea, but you keep coming back to see what' s aid next. Wise counsel, which is why I said don't ask us just do what your doctor says? I'm flattered you find that to be such sage advice.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Are you now a doctor? Just remember that there is a flu vaccine, there is no coronavirus vaccine.

&&&

The flu vaccine barely works. On some years it's almost ineffective. 2020 is one of those years, it's basically a dud this year. For some reason this doesn't seem to panic the world.

&&
And no, it's not like a minor cold. People don't die from a
"minor cold". People are not hospitalized for a "minor cold".

&&&

Um, yes, it is. For most people, it plays out like a minor cold. I can read and this is what every single source has reported. In fact, some people didn't even KNOW they had it it was so minor. For a tiny fraction of people, the vast majority of whom are very elderly and almost no kids or young people, it takes them out. These are the people who need to be hospitalized. If everyone was hospitalized and dying, the deaths rates would be 80-90 percent and not 2-3.

Your chances are if you even get this, which you likely won't, it will play out like a cold and you'll be fine with some rest and chicken soup. There is a small chance it will not play out like a cold, and these people are who you hear the most about, naturally.

You do understand the vast majority of people ride this out at home, right? And in fact are being TOLD to ride this out at home by their doctor unless symptoms worsen? This is reported in every single source, left, right, center and beyond.

The facts are what they are, much as people seem to want us to panic otherwise. It's people like you that are going to cause deaths after people panic and get themselves shot looting.

OT just info for anyone. I had the H1N1 flu in March last year. Because of also having pneumonia and COPD I was in hospital for 3 days. Not near death but needing strong antibiotics and oxygen. I had a flu shot but it was one for a different flu. I saw a local news article in April that people were getting the H1N1 because the shot that year was not for h1n1. There are several strains of flu so they have to figure out what shot to give. Its hard to predict.
Many of those who say they got the flu from the shot actually had already been exposed and the shot takes an amount of time(?) to fully work. So it doesn't stop what they are already exposed to. This part was from my doctor.

Admin, I agree with you 100% about the panic over the corona virus. Every year thousands of people die from the flu, some years more than others. The corona virus just doesn't seem to warrant the media attention it's getting. Yes, we should be aware of it, but in my opinion, all of this media coverage and attention just isn't warranted.

&&&

You're right. And getting stuck on a story happens a lot and it's no big deal. The media often gets stuck on a story blowing it all out of proportion and I thought nothing of it other then, well that's obnoxious. Drought is one of those. Some several years ago I vividly recall they had people worked up into a tizzy about some kind of twenty year drought plaguing CA. At the end of the day the drought quickly ended, the rain came as it always does, and we're now going on three rainy years and the drought is officially over. But the thing is with that story it didn't really cause great harm to hype something like that up to wide groups of people. Most people didn't change their lives even if they were made to live in fear. A couple dummies dug up their beautiful grass and replaced with some some cactus so they won't have to water the lawn anymore, others took shorter showers which is really no harm no foul, and that's about the extent of it.

In this case, working people up over coronavirus can and already is causing HUGE harm. The economy is tanking solely because of this, because people won't go out and spend money. Shelves are bare of medical supplies in stores that are causing shortages in hospitals that really need them. This is incredibly dangerous to our hospital workers who need things like masks and hand sanitizer to be safe. Cultural and other events are extremely important to a community's moral, so constantly cancelling events like that that are a LOW risk is in and of itself risky. You never want to get large groups of people anxious and worried and pent up, because then people get irrational. This is city planning 101. But they've got people so worked up we're at high risk of looting and violence. Several officials on record are saying you are hurting more than you are helping when you behave in this alarmist way.

Los Angeles area officials have done some of their best work in years on handling this crisis and certainly better than many other cities who are instead panicking. They are asking for the orders they need from the feds to free up the funding they need, they're refusing to allow the feds to do anything stupid like set up a quarantine right in the middle of an area as big as ours. (They tried to set up one in a very populated area of Orange County and we immediately filed a lawsuit and stopped it.) They are keeping watch over high risk populations and isolating people the moment they get sick. At the same time they are able to understand that by no means does this warrant a shutdown for the majority of people, and that encouraging an overreaction is harmful. If the numbers climb higher then they are that may change, but one should react to the numbers and the data, not to fear.

Let's review some other numbers. Flu deaths this season alone in the US: 20,000.

Deaths.

Of those who were KIDS: 136.

136 little ones are DEAD because of flu THIS SEASON.

People also are really whiney.

&&&

There was a great article today about how Elizabeth Warren and any other women who point out discrepancies or complaints about anything are always labeled "whiney" and that this contributed to their failures. Yet when men point out anything similar, they are rarely called as such. Instead men are "telling it like it is" or just sharing. It struck me that they're right, when a woman points out something, she's a whiner. How terrible sexist we are. We can't even elevate a woman anywhere close to our presidency because we perceive her having a normal discussion as whining. Even people who claim to support women so much, are actually deep down very innately sexist. And you just did it right here, labeled a woman with valid concerns a whiner. You're sexist.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

And BTW, January and February in CA have been incredibly dry, but don't let that stop you from claiming we've had three straight rainy years.

&&&

It doesn't matter what occurred on any one individual month. We are expecting four days of rain this week. It also doesn't matter what happens in LA in terms of a drought as the majority of farmland in the state that it matters too is central and northern. What matters most is the snowpack up north, and that is once again far beyond the average levels. Even if we didn't get a drop of rain more in LA this year, it is still not a drought. The drought was declared OVER in 2016 by officials, snowpacks this year is at the largest it has been at four years, and most reservoirs are about 98-100 percent full, thus even with a ton more rain we're already good, they are full for the year. If you're going to yammer about the drought hoax, please know what you're talking about first.

If you don't believe me, perhaps you will believe the officials who are experts in watershed management, or are you an expert in that too?: https://www.ocregister.com/2020/01/02/drought-what-drought-largest-snowpack-in-four-years-most-stored-water-in-socal-history-paint-rosy-water-picture/

You do know that one of the groups canceling a conference was the American Bar Association, right?!? I guess the ABA had an unethical attorney advising them.

&&&

Nah they probably had a bunch of nutty people just like you complaining about it going forward and got sick of your griping and so had to cancel it to shut you up.

Their cancellation is in direct violation of directives from federal, state and local governments NOT to do so as it's making things WORSE by throwing us into a recession and causing a panic. Their conference was to be in San Diego. They directly disobeyed California state government which has asked organizations like theirs NOT to cancel their events. In a real epidemic, we will need everyone to cooperate, LISTEN, and FOLLOW DIRECTIONS from the doctors who we have put in office to guide us. It certainly is disappointing the ABA thinks they know better than the doctors. Lord knows the ABA, which is simply a politically active interest group and has absolutely no authority over lawyers and is not a requirement to join (I am not a member), might just be wrong.

The work trip I'm going to is also put on by a lawyer interest group that many people know, and they're not cancelling theirs because they know how to listen.

&&&

Yes that's right. Although it's important to get the vaccine, it is basically a shot in the dark whether it will help you or not and on many bad years it doesn't help hardly anyone. We have a long way to go before we have a handle on the flu.

Ten percent of the population got the flu so far this year, everyone should be very scared of the flu, not coronavirus.

CC said...

I read that the difference between the coronavirus and the flu is the mortality rate.

Although the number of people who die from the flu is higher (because more people have it), the percentage of people who die from it is lower.

A lot less people have coronavirus than flu, but a higher percentage are dying from it. So once it really spreads (if it does) then the amount of people who die from it will be more than the flu.

Hopefully that won’t be the case.

I’m not at all panicked by it. But I don’t mind some caution. Washing your hands and staying home if you’re sick are the way to go. Unfortunately a lot of people won’t do either.

I don’t understand how the masks And gloves sold out at Walmart, etc affect hospitals. So they really buy their masks and gloves at Walmart? Don’t they buy them through a medical supplier? The medical supplier should limit selling to Walmart, etc.

CC said...

Another difference between coronavirus and flu is they feel coronavirus May be airborne. So it won’t just be a matter of washing your hands and not touching your face.

CC said...

Supposedly, one reason they are more worried about coronavirus than flu is that unlike the flu, coronavirus may be airborne. If so, washing hands and not touching your face won’t stop it.

True for the longest time they thought the flu wasn't airborne, but in 2018 scientists came out and said actually nevermind it is airborne. It was a big story. So they're both airborne.

Washing your hands is a good idea for both viruses, but it won't necessarily stop either one. People feel more in control though when they can do something.

The stats are interesting too. The death rate for regular flu depends on the year, but is usually about 1 percent, give or take.

Initially, they told us the death rate for coronavirus was about 3-4 percent. More than the flu, but not by much. Now in recent days, they've even pulled that number back and said actually, it's 1.4 So basically ALMOST the same death rate as the flu. The reason they dialed that number back so much is because a whole ton of people who thought they just had a minor cold actually had coronavirus. Those people weren't getting counted. Once we counted those people, we realized the death rate is drastically lower than we thought. This is good. With the flu, chances are you're almost certainly going to be down for the count all week or worse. With the coronavirus, chances are you could actually just get a little sniffle and cold and still function and live normally for the week. In that respect, I'd take coronavirus.

What isn't getting any attention is that kids almost never get coronavirus or if they do its almost always like a little cold, they can function and don't need to be hospitalized. Much like how chicken pox is mild for kids but hell for adults. Unlike the flu, which takes out precious little babies just like that. So in that respect I think I'll take coronavirus over the flu.

It's been said a couple times in things I have read that the facts are not a reason for people to freak out, people are freaking out because it's an unknown. With flu we kind of know how it will go, scary as it is. But in terms of similarities, so far they are EXTREMELY similar, the differences are marginal, with the only real difference being that coronavirus is better because it doesn't take out kids and usually hits people in a much milder way than flu does.

Yes it effects hospitals because there are only a handful of suppliers who make medical supplies and they sell them to everyone, right on down to Walmart. So if Walmart suddenly increases their orders to stock empty shelves, suppliers can quickly run out.

The whole mask thing has been idiotic for years. You see it a lot in LA. Darn near almost nobody needs to be wearing a mask for any reason for any illness. Some doctors say it can even make it worse because you're harboring bacteria breathing into a little warm moist space for hours.

The main purpose a doctor might wear a mask is to prevent bodily fluids from splashing them. It’s unlikely walking down the street a pedestrian will get hit with a splash of coronavirus. But in a regular doctors office full of lots of sick people you rarely see medical staff put on a mask until they’re ready to do something that might splash them, like stitches.

&&&

I don't know why they're wearing masks since it doesn't help unless you're in a true gas mask. Most of the pictures I see of masks have come from abroad, and wearing masks in Asia is a really huge cultural thing and is seen as good manners. We don't have that in the US.

In any case they're not just talking about a mask shortage for the virus, buying up masks for no good reason creates a shortage of masks for things that have nothing to do with the virus, everything from surgeries to first responders who are at high risk of encountering bodily fluids.

And this is why it's important to listen to health officials. They need not make it a legal order for it to be followed. It needs to be followed regardless. Whether it's to hold a marathon or stay home or what you should buy up in the store and what you should not panic about, people need to LISTEN.

We really are screwed in a real crisis.

So then can we assume that you wholeheartedly support the decision to cancel SXSW, since that decision was made by the mayor of Austin on the advice of the public health director?

&&&

Yes of course. It was a decision made by public health officials and must be followed in emergencies like this to prevent chaos.

Noting that there are NO cases of coronavirus in Travis county, the big problem with SXSW is everybody major was pulling out. It was down to holding it but not having any of the major vendors there, which is problematic.

The show runners are devastated and the financial ramifications are huge. It can be the difference between food on the table or not for some of the thousands of minimum wage workers who are employed to do set up, tear down, security, etc, and all that needs to be weighed in these decisions. When people like me express concerns about the economy, it says a lot that you assume we're talking about our own finances. Virus or not my finances don't change and aren't effected. I'm not pulling my finances out of the stock market for 25 more years, so downturns actually HELP somebody like me, when stocks are "on sale". I know this is hard for someone as white and privileged as yourself to imagine, but for somebody who depends on SXSW to boost their income over the poverty line every year? And looks around them and sees NO ONE sick? Yeah, it's devastating.

I'll be in Austin the end of the month. Unless my flight is cancelled, I'm going.

What are you talking about? The passengers ALL disembarked HOURS ago. The person on board they thought had symptoms is negative (as the vast majority of people will be). Try to keep up. Nobody is being held hostage on a cruise ship. Nobody is mishandling LA. Nobody is panicking in LA as there is no reason to. They handled that just fine.

If someone wanted to keep their numbers down, they would not have allowed tens of thousands of Americans from high risk areas to come back here where they will be much safer.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I am not talking about a ship in LA. Leave it or not there is a world beyond Los Angeles. It is not always about You and the place that you live. I was referring to Donald Trump's comments about the cruise ship in the San Francisco Bay. And yes, people have been held "hostage" on that ship. Try to keep up.

&&&

Since there have been multiple cruise ships, it would help your point to be clear about which one you're talking about. Since we were directly discussing how LA handled the crisis, I assumed you were referring to the ship we handled just fine.

I know which one you're talking about now. The one where somebody DIED from aboard. The one where TWENTY-ONE other people have it. And it is not "Trump" holding them off shore, it is the CDC and California officials working TOGETHER. While the president has some oversight of the CDC as ultimately they report to him, they are very much an autonomous government agency who make thousands of decisions on a daily basis on behalf of the government; the CDC and corresponding local agencies are calling most of the shots about this ship, as they are the experts.

And stop lying, the plan is not to hold them hostage, the plan is to make sure everyone is tested for the virus while simultaneously making sure the ship has a suitable port to dock in that is not for people I.e a commercial port or an abandoned port. One such port has been located in Oakland. On Monday, the ship will dock in Oakland, and California and federal officials will work together on disembarking the passengers in a safe manner and to another safe location or if it is safe for some of them, back into the community. At no time was there any plans to quarantine people ON the ship, despite you lying about that. The plan was always to work toward disembarking. Stop lying.

Perhaps you should send them a letter telling them you know better than this plan. I'm sure they'll take heed.

OMG, the spin you use to defend Trump! He didn't want the people from the cruise to come into the US, because then there would be less reported cases. He wanted to keep the number of reported cases down, because it looks bad for him & his administration.

&&&

Wow. So you have made up in your head. That's a very convoluted story there worthy of a science fiction novel. If an administration simply doesn't want to look bad, he would have shut everything down and prevented anyone from coming here at all. That is the very opposite of what is happening. The very reason we have the virus here is because we are a country of compassion and not socialists that has allowed the sick in and is caring for them.

Would I want to be tested if I had virus symptoms you ask. Not as long as they were just cold symptoms, no, I wouldn't. I would save the tests for the elderly. But then I'm not a selfish pig who only thinks about how this virus is scaring myself. Shouldn't the CDC have been better prepared for this after Oabma completely botched the swine flu epidemic that killed 4,000 Americans in 2009? Crickets. Crickets.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Cruise ships seem to be a giant petri dish of various diseases these days, and couple that with the risk of being diverted or held, I think you have no choice but to cancel. The bulk of our problems here in recent weeks stem from cruise ships.

I haven't set foot on a cruise since 2012, what scared me off more was the stomach flu going around those things all the time. That and our toilet didn't work our last two days of the cruise, which was fun. We got all our activities comped for that and warded off jokes about us clogging it. I swear we didn't!

They're saying that for those who are able to reschedule, recognizing not everyone will, chances are you'll score a better deal next time.

On the flip said, various people from the cruise industry have been begging the government not to do anything drastic, saying they stand to lose billions and it will tank the industry, no pun intended. The industry has been working with the fed and state closely and they are a part of the conversation. I think it's all a balance, and that nobody wants an entire industry to go down on the speculation maybe this or that boat might make it worse. Some may be more mindful of that concern than others, it appears some people would like to shut down the country without regard for what that means economically. It does no good to shut down a country so nobody can work to try to stop a virus when it means because poor people arent working their families are starving instead. It's all just one big guessing game, though it does appear that various containment procedures put in place are working at least to some extent.

Hmmm, makes me wonder whether Kate has invested heavily in the stock market. I bet she has, because she'd want the big returns of the last few years. But if she's depending on market increases/dividends to pay her bills, she's in a world of hurt right now--especially if we're entering a recession. She'd still need to pull money out to pay her bills (God forbid she should get a real job for that!) and if she's not making any returns...ouch. The good thing about the stock market is it always bounces back, but if you're taking money out you're not going to get that money back. I also wonder about the kids' trust funds--I'm sure the money is invested somewhere. Word to the wise: don't ever depend solely on the market for your income!

Not that I feel bad for millennial college kids, but I sort of feel bad for anyone not able to just do what they normally would do because I'm just always feeling bad. They might not be able to do the usual trips most kids do to Cancun and all that because of all the travel shutdowns. Students studying abroad are coming home early, now so many aren't going to be in classes. Online is a joke.

Funny because aside from babies and children, college kids with their robust constitutions are one of the lowest risk populations there is. The most at risk populations are 80-something year olds, followed by 70-something year olds, and then 60-something year olds. In that order.

The governor however is really expressing a lot of reservations about all this:

To me, it’s a high bar for a closure,’’ he told reporters. “One thing I think makes sense is you have a situation in a school [with] a temporary closure, a specific targeted closure for limited periods of time.

“I don’t want to see mass closures, I want to see pinpoint response. If you understand the facts, you would be calm That is the bottom line. Well, then why all this running and testing, et cetera? Because we want as few people infected as possible. But I think in some ways the anxiety is outpacing the reality of this situation."

Layla (#98), sorry about your injury. Hope it won't impact your time with Sully too much.

Nothing gets between me and my Sully-Boo! I'm convinced I won't survive a day without one of those smiles. When he smiles, it's like his whole little body smiles--you saw his picture. It's like he scrunches up into an adorable little ball of happiness. The knee injury makes things difficult--Sully is fascinated with the knee brace I have to wear and wants to play with it, which is way too painful right now. And I can't even pick him up! Doc said it can take months to fully recover. Makes me grumpy.

The San Francisco cruise ship is disembarking right now and passengers are going to designated quarantine locations or back to their homes abroad.

So the lie that it was being held against recommendations as a quarantine was just that, a lie. No such thing happened.

Yeah, he's in charge around here. He gets what he wants, much to the irritation of Piper the rescue kitty (AKA Queen Piper). Any time we give Sully--or the dogs--anything, she thinks we need to offer it to her first. When she rejects it, then they can have it. She's come a long way since DS found her and brought her home. She's now a thoroughly spoiled little boss lady. She's very gentle with Sully, though, and he's fascinated with her. She likes to bat his toys around, which he finds hilarious. And she always butts her head against his face. I read somewhere that when cats do that, they're "marking" their people. Leaving their scent on them to show other cats that, "Hey, this human is mine". I guess that means she likes him!

&&&

I guess you missed the point, not that I'm surprised. People aren't outraged or in fear over very real and common deaths and risks, but will freak out over things that are very low risk. There is no outrage over the college kids that die every year from meningitis. There is no outrage over babies being left in restrooms to die when there was a fire house across the street to turn the baby in. And there is certainly no outrage over the tends of thousands of people who will die this year in the US alone including children from the flu.

Instead people are losing their minds. Even your lot is now saying ok everyone calm down just calm down. See Gov. Cuomo. Instead from day one the incident was used as ammunition to try to bring down the candidate they didn't want. Cheap and sick.

Case in point hoarding toilet paper. I was at the grocery store this weekend. I overheard two women talk about needing to get more toilet paper just in case others purchased it all. They both had 4 jumbo packs in their carts. The largest size available in the store. Way more than they would need for a few months.

I bet Jon has something fun planned for Hannah and Collin! He knows what a big milestone the 16th birthday is. And I'm sure he'll at least try to include the 4 with Kate, although they've been so alienated they probably won't take him up on it. By now Kate will have convinced them that Dad is the reason they can't film, their last episode was pulled, and Mommy was fired. As usual, it will all be Jon's fault.
I'm sure she's been working the phones, trying to find someone to film the epic 16th birthday of the Gosselin sextuplets (minus two). If that fails, she'll turn to People magazine to pay her for a photo spread. If that fails, she'll sell pictures to the lower-paying media outlets. Would anyone pay for pictures of them now? I can't see why, but that won't stop her from trying.

I just realized that since their 13th birthday, almost 3 years ago, the younger kids have only filmed one episode of K+8. Yet they told the GAL that it feels weird not to film. Does that make any sense to them at all, or were they just parroting what Kate told them to say? And if they have to film to survive, then how have they survived almost 3 years on the proceeds of one episode? I hope they're asking themselves these questions.

Now that their social schedules aren't contingent on TLC's filming schedule, I hope the kids have been able to form strong friendships outside of their home, and perhaps have benefited from the care and concern of teachers and/or parents of their friends.

This is really getting scary because of all the shutting down. A minuscule amount of Americans have died or gotten very sick in a country of 327 million people. TINY. We will have to do what we feel we have to do, but a whole hell of a lot of people are going to come out of this in economic turmoil which can be dangerous and deadly in its own right.

There's a whole lot of people out there who know they can withstand getting sick and come through it fine, but don't know what they would do if the paychecks suddenly stop coming.

I think the biggest message that needs to get out there right now is please ASK FOR HELP. If your kids are going to go without dinner because you aren't working sweeping the halls of UCLA anymore, TELL SOMEONE. Don't let this have to mean it comes to something like that.

If your Dear Leader had any kind of brain, he would have clarified the "month long ban on flying to Europe".
Jesus Christ, I've lost enough freaking money already.
So much for playing this all down, trump. Thanks, dope.

&&&

In no way shape or form did he say there was a month long ban on flying TO Europe. Try to listen and not freak out. It's INCOMING from Europe, not outgoing, and he specifically said Americans are not part of it so I have no idea what the freakout is over Americans. Your Aunt Bessie and Uncle Art will come home from their vacation in Europe next week just fine, just relax.

I was just waiting for your post to blast the president. Who was not doing enough minutes ago, and is now doing way too much. I called that one. No matter what he does, no matter what, the Trump haters will never stop.

Admin: HE did not specifically say Americans are not part of it during his speech! His usual clean up crew had to come out and tell the press what he meant, which is a little different that what he said. I don't blame people for being confused on this b/c a lot of people would have listened to the speech then turned it off and not listened to the post speech analysis. It took some time before it came out that Americans can in fact come back from Europe. (which his policy now states that a non-American coming from Europe cannot come to the US, but an American can return home from the same spot as the non-American was travelling from.... I don't understand how banning certain people from one area but not other people coming from the same area helps to decrease the spread of the virus?

Admin: HE did not specifically say Americans are not part of it during his speech!

&&&&

I watched it live and this is what I heard: All flights from mainland Europe will be shut down for 30 days. Immediately after that I heard, and Americans with proper health screenings would be let back in.

This is how it's been before. You are not guaranteed entry back in from abroad if you're sick. In fact you could be quarantined if your sick or at high risk of getting sick. Just because you're an American means nothing. That's how it's been for weeks and likely how it will continue to be.

So that's why I say I didn't take it as a ban on Americans stuck there whatever. In fact I took it as a flat out exemption.

I think anyone who is confused enough to really want to know would certainly check the post analysis for clarification. It is neither practical nor is there time to go into all the finer details of a travel ban when trying to make a general speech about measures being taken during a crisis. If this effects someone directly, they should read the fine print. Anyone who travels abroad knows where to find the travel restrictions online and all their fine print.

I'm with you. Honestly I've been saying all along unless we shut down everything it does no good to shut down some things.

But in China, they have done targeted shut downs and it's actually working. China is in full on recovery mode from this, with very few new cases. They are attributing this to targeted shutdowns. It seems illogical to me and frankly a miracle. But at least we know if there is a light at the end of the tunnel for China there is for us too. The bulk of our cases in the US stemmed from a couple freaking cruise ships. If we had implemented targeted shutdowns before then we might have held this off. In any case, congress was really clamoring for this as were health experts, and I'm in support of it on a sort of "It's worth a try" notion.

To watch or not watch Contagion. I'm so tempted. Everyone else is watching, it's gone viral.

They're not trippin' but they're going through the necessary health precautions obviously.

And you should be careful what you wish for. Didn't you say you'd "prefer the Coronavirus over the flu"?
Just like that idiot NBA player touching everything like he's fucking king - now he's sick.
Smug and righteous will get you no where. And could get you very sick. please be careful.

&&&

You really need to calm down and breathe. Everything is going to be fine. You need to keep it in perspective. We've had 38 deaths in the US. That's it. 4,000 people died of the swine flu in 2009 and nobody panicked. Almost all the people who died have a travel history, and almost all the people who died were elderly with underlining health conditions.

I can do the math. A person of my age and good health should, if given the choice, prefer coronavirus over the flu. Again, for most people, it's a mild cough and you recover. Anyone with half a brain my age should prefer the coronavirus over the flu, especially if you have the ability to stay away from other people and not infect anybody else.

Anyone under 60 in good health should, if given the choice, prefer coronavirus over the flu. Anyone over 60 or with an underlining condition should not prefer it at all as they are at higher risk.

The flu takes out young people. The coronavirus generally does not.

And just because like many people I'm not scared by this doesn't mean I'm reckless. I have been careful all season about good hygiene and other safe practices because of the FLU, especially as I read early on the flu was bad this year and the flu shot wasn't working. I have not gotten sick thus far from anything this season, even a cold. I hope this is a wakeup call that we actually could do a whole lot more to prevent the transmission of the FLU, and that we are far too careless about that. And that one kills KIDS.

While this is true, his speech has caused mass confusion as the OP pointed out. Why can't you admit that his speech wasn't "perfect" and the policy is a mess. First, why is the UK exempt from the ban? WHO data ahow that the UK is as impacted as much of Europe. Second, he did not say PEOPLE from Europe are banned, just FLIGHTS from Europe. What is to prevent Europeans from hopping on a plane to London and then heading to the U.S.?

*&&&

Oh it was not all that MASS confusing, grow up. Anything that people wanted clarified after the fact was explained and the policy is online. You can clearly read, read it. If you followed this at all, you would see it was CONGRESS clamoring for him to do this travel shutdown. From both sides of the aisle. And most people from both sides of the aisle are completely fine with this. This is not a mess, this is a drastic measure to slow the spread so we don't end up another Italy. Everyone on both sides of the aisle has talking about travel bans for weeks and weeks, so I have no idea why you find this all so shocking. I'm sorry Europe doesn't like it, I'm sorry the stock market is tanking. Personally I wonder if it will help, but China is starting to make a persuasive argument it does help given their new cases are plummeting after doing the same.

UK is not part of the ban because UK has much tighter boarders (thank God). Mainland Europe, not the UK, is part of Schengen, and they let any Tom Dick or Harry come in wherever whenever. That's their choice, and one I'm sure the lefties love, but when the shit hits the fan like right now, you're out, because we have literally NO IDEA who you are or where you've been. See ya. So if you are seriously not understanding why UK is exempt, you need to read about the very dangerous policy of open borders.

You can find all of the answers to these various questions you are asking online. I suggest getting a subscription to The Washington Post as I have. Then you can stop pestering me with things that are too hard for you to understanding or that you want to pick apart without really understanding them. Now time for me to start my normal day and normal life.

The UK has almost 600 cases of coronavirus. Your "boarders" (an expert like you really should be able to spell the damn word) rationale is not universally agreed on. Trump did a lousy job last night. God forbid that anyone criticize your hero.

You seem panicked about the FLU. Just breathe. It will be fine.

&&&

You are so PANICKED. CALM THE F DOWN. You're going to be fine.

It's not about how many cases the UK has so much as it's about our ability to access the information we need about one's travel history because unlike mainland Europe, the UK keeps track of that. If you just come from mainland Europe, you could have been in Italy and we would have NO IDEA. But if you come from the UK, your passport will clearly show your travel history without the uncertainty. We'll know if you've been to mainland Europe or not or anywhere else because we know Europe does not observe open borders go wherever you want we don't keep track.

Just so you know what Trump ordered last night was what was DEMANDED by both parties in Congress. Everyone is in agreement on this. Except you. But thankfully, I'm really thankful for this, you're not in charge. Also, you're a big fat hypocrite in the late stages of TDS. You were practically screaming for Trump to do something drastic. &&&

Second, he did not say PEOPLE from Europe are banned, just FLIGHTS from Europe. What is to prevent Europeans from hopping on a plane to London and then heading to the U.S.?

&&&

Um, because we will open that pesky little passport of theirs and easily be able to see if they've been to mainland Europe. Which is the entire point of this ban, to avoid mainland Europe. If you've been there then try to game the system by getting onto a London flight, good luck to you at the airport.

We're trying to be more like China, whose bans worked, and less like Italy, which was a shitshow. Just try to move aside and let the people who know what they're doing handle it.

He actually is an incredible speaker when he's speaking off the cuff. He's funny and engaging. He can talk for hours. He's very good at improv. You can see this on Celebrity Apprentice. But put a teleprompter in front of him and simply reading a script causes him to trip on his words. Much like most normal people when asked to read something straight up will stumble.

You have to keep in mind this is an unprecedented speech and a tremendous amount of pressure to "fix" with his words something likely nearly unfixable and certainly very unknown, so I think everyone can relax and just be glad it's not way worse than it actually is given our sheer size.

All that said, it was not that bad so the shock and horror over how bad it was is pretty exaggerated. A couple points needed to be clarified or elaborated on in minor ways, but I can't imagine anyone is seriously trying to make a case that they really didn't understand what was going on. Europe certainly understood what was going on!

I'm not really sure Joe Biden is the best communicator either, like when he told somebody last week to not to be "such a horse's ass" but that will be our two choices come next election.

If Europe has these unsafe open borders, then doesn't that mean they don't check passports? Someone could easily travel throughout Europe and then make their way to the UK (via train or the ferry as examples)…. how would anyone know they travelled around Europe?

&&&

You're correct, it does mean they don't check passports in mainland Europe. That is why they are banned for the moment because they don't check, therefore there's no record of where you've been. From mainland Europe. Because there is no way to verify if you're in France, whether you've also been to Italy because you can go to Italy and no one would know. Once you hit the UK, they check it, and they'll see you are Italian or Belgium or whatever you are, and oh you just came in from France or the Netherlands or whatever, and they consider health screens etc. There is no way to get into the UK without a passport check. I'm not sure how else to explain why this makes UK infinitely safer, because they track where everybody came from just like we track where you came from. Not completely safe of course, as of course they can't completely trace one's travel history no more than we can, but no country is completely safe. But requiring a passport at every single border dramatically increases your control in situations like this.

The best way to understand it is if the UK tried to ban California from coming to the UK. There is no way for them to do that safely without also banning the entire U.S., as anyone can go to CA whenever they like without a record of it. But it would be safer to allow Cuban flights under this hypothetical, because at least in Cuba everyone has gotten their passport checked coming in or out.

By the way, the mainland Europe thing is really just about Italy. We don't care to ban France, that's not what anyone is trying to do, it's just there's no way to track whether a frenchmen took a weekend trip to Italy but didn't tell us. If there were a way to just ban Italy we would do that and leave everyone else out of it, just like if there were someway to ban CA.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

By the way, while it was not necessary to have Trump explain all the finer details of this policy on air which doesn't effect the vast majority of Americans, you CANNOT travel immediately to the U.S. from the UK if you've been to to mainland europe without a 14 day waiting period. Americans are exempt. So the idea that you think one can simply piddle around in Italy for a month then sneak over to the UK and hop a flight to the U.S. is just a non-starter. That's not how the ban works.

&&&

Two sentences?? Um, the proclamation is online and it is PAGES long, explaining all the ins and outs of it, with multiple "sections", dates, fine details about who will enforce it, and for good measure some legalize. A two sentence brush stroke was not going to cut it, if that's what you think, you obviously haven't read it.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-certain-additional-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-2019-novel-coronavirus/

And as a matter of fact it DOES effect me. Not that it's any of your business why or how. I said it doesn't effect MOST Americans, therefore, I don't think it is necessary in a general speech about safety measures during a crisis to start going into the nitty gritty details of something like that. Especially when all the finer details are public record online. That is the very opposite of making it all about me, because I actually did want more details personally. All most Americans need to know is there will be pretty strict bans on foreigners from Schengen for the next 30 days. Giving them step by step IKEA directions about it all is just going to make people freak out. Now don't worry about it and go live your life.

Is there anything you're still confused about, about this policy? Because I have read it, I find it to be crystal clear, and I'm happy to explain it to you if you don't understand it STILL. But trust me, you don't need to worry about it.

A national emergency is expected to be declared in the next few minutes. That news alert just hit the wires. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more restrictions Imposed then. This is not gossip. I previously posted that I think the corona virus is being blown out of proportion and that is still my opinion, but now it is getting worse due to all of the panic and unnecessary closings of businesses. Today, intelligent coworkers were talking about going shopping after work to stock up on food and household items. Not because of the spread of the virus, but because of all the businesses indicating they may shut their doors for awhile to prevent the spread, sending employees home, etc. This is causing a new panic, that people will not have basic items needed. This is the frenzy that this unwarranted over blown media saturation causes. The businesses closing their doors will do more damage than the corona virus long term.

Another example of my previous comments is some cities and towns have closed their schools until further notice due to the threat of the corona virus. Now you have working parents who cannot send their kids to school, daycares are closed or full, so the parent cannot go to work because they have no one to watch their children. Some might have a stay at home relative or friend, but most do not. I personally have 3 coworkers in my office who now have this issue to deal with and they found out this afternoon from a text from the schools. Now this affects the parent's job as well as the financial stability of the family. This is just one more way that this overblown situation is causing long term harm, and not from the illness itself. Interesting. The fan page Jonkateplus8on insta posted a video that must belong to Mady. It appears she’s home from college due to her college getting shut down because of the corona threat. In the video, Mady is in the driver seat of what looks like to be Kate’s vehicle . Leah is shown in the back seat and Kate is sitting in the passenger seat. Mady starts lip syncing to a song and they start dancing and singing, flapping arms around. Kate is dressed in a frumpy grey sweater, black hat, and the “girls” are huge. I’m guessing it’s weight gain. She’s far from glamorous looking.. It’s in this fan pages “stories’ so it’ll disappear in 24 hours. I wonder if this fan is on Mady’s personal Instagram page and that is how she’s getting this.

Late this evening they shut down my firm to all but essential workers. We have almost 400 attorneys and triple that in support staff.

Those of us assigned to courts are to report to court as usual, so I'm considered essential, however, I see the LA Courts going next. Ventura county just shut down their courts. The pressure is mounting.

Interesting Gigi. Do you suppose Kate will emerge in one of those "omg look at her now" pap photos around about 6 months from now, 200 pounds heavier? I mean we haven't seen the Schmoop in ages.

Some things I heard today about the corona virus.

The governor of Wisconsin closed all schools starting March 18 til some time in April.
My daughter works for a large insurance company in a local hospital (to help people with questions) She was told today not to come back til notified. Luckily she just got her equipment the other day to work from home. She heard at the hospital that they are calling some patients and recommending they change their appointments if they are not critical. She said it was like a ghost town in there today. Must be alot of people staying away by choice. (usually very busy)
My nearby town (1600 pop.) grocery store had people come 30 miles from a bigger city (65,000 pop.) to get toilet paper because they weren't out "yet".
Our local electric coop cancelled their annual meeting.

Yet the casino about 60 miles from me will still be open. They are just bringing in an extra cleaning crew to go over everything, Geeez.

Now you have working parents who cannot send their kids to school, daycares are closed or full, so the parent cannot go to work because they have no one to watch their children.

&&&

What's happening in LA now is basically happening on a minute to minute basis, but LAUSD choosing to shut down, whatever the wisdom of that decision, completely decimated everyone else.

Our office quickly realized given that so many of us have kids in that school system that we were pretty cooked. There is no one to watch your kids other than you hope you have a friend or relative who can who is either dealing with their own kids or you worry they're elderly and better not. That is effecting every other major organization in LA because we just lost half our workers. Our initial plan earlier today was to just ad hoc fill the holes on a case by case basis as we could, the best we could. Now they're saying forget it, just stay home.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

his is just one more way that this overblown situation is causing long term harm, and not from the illness itself.

&&&

I think what's scary is that it's so unclear when it will end. I would support a shutdown if we're talking in 7-10 days we've sucker punched the virus. But Italy is completely shut down and it seems to be a VERY slow plod to helping curb their crisis.

The problem is we DON'T know. We can't live like this forever or now we are both sick and economically hosed. At this point, I really like Dr. Anthony Fauci who seems to have emerged as the front runner leader in all this, and I'm beginning to really trust his judgement. He explained in a very scientific way why the European flight ban makes mathematical sense. While he's not full on calling for us to close everything we have, he seems to be very much encouraging it in hot spots, which frankly, include LA, and so if they feel this is worth a try I'm on board, with reservations.

In my line of work, what we just did is very, very frightening. Because we protect abused kids. And if you reduce the crew that protects abused kids down to a skeleton crew, who is going to be out there on a daily basis making sure . We have almost A THOUSAND cases of child abuse a day heard in LA, either new or ongoing (one case is one child, not one family). That's a thousand kids not getting heard in court every day we shut down.

. Do we need to be vigilant and take measures...yes. But watching the reporters on the different networks, I’m amazed at how dramatic they are when reporting on it. I think they are really feeding into people’s fears.

&&&

The numbers don't support the fear. We really should shut down like this for the flu if this is a problem for us.

And like I've just been saying it just dawned on me that things being so very interconnected, all you really need is 1, 2, 3 big players in your city to make the call to shut down and the whole city goes.

LAUSD got tremendous pressure from freaked out parents to close. There wasn't a single case in the school, and arguably the kids are safer at school, away from interacting with adults all day who might have it. Once LAUSD closed the rest of LA started to crumble around it. I do not believe for one second my office would have shut down but for LAUSD making this call, ill advised or not.

Today, intelligent coworkers were talking about going shopping after work to stock up on food and household items. Not because of the spread of the virus, but because of all the businesses indicating they may shut their doors for awhile to prevent the spread, sending employees home, etc.

&&&

And that's my thing. I have a fairly good solid supply at my home at the moment of everything one needs to be okay for a few week, including food and sanitary type supplies, but now, because of the stockpiling, it might be much longer than two weeks before your essential items are restocked in stores. So now it's like, well now I Have to go out and contribute to this frenzy I want nothing to do with because now my what was supposed to be very safe supply now might not be adequate.

This will be an entire chapter in future Sociology/Psycology textbooks. Humans are EVIL when they're scared.

This is from the WH website. It is described as a "fact sheet". Scroll down to the last paragraph. Care to explain this? I'd like your response, because this totally makes no sense. Why should only health plans with HSA accounts be exempt from co-payments? Or is this just more disinformation from the Trump administration? No wonder that everyone is confused.

I'm exhausted at the moment trying to figure out how I will continue to protect the 250 abused kids assigned to me to manage their court case if I can't get my ass to work. This would be a good thing to post on an applicable reddit thread for people that l love to discuss health care. You'll get like a hundred responses.

Syracuse may in fact have closed due to corona, but both it and Fordham are on spring break this coming week (as of Sunday, March 16).

Interestingly, Kate's IG followers, which had started going back down 10 or so days ago, and bottomed out around 417,250 (from +/-418,300), are again on the rise as of a few days ago. She's gained almost 500 in maybe 3 days. I can only assume she's buying again, as there has been no new news whatsoever. I guess if the twins can't go back to school as scheduled on the 24th (are the 4 remaining tups at home too? On break or closed down?), she's got to figure out some way to use them to make a buck.

Videos in the car? You know K8'll do just about anything. I'm sure there is worse to come. With the warm weather, maybe we'll get one of her famous early pool openings and Mady strutting her stuff in a swimsuit. Judging from Mady's IG photos, she seems to think she's pretty hot.

Wait for it.

Wow. Classic narcissism. you're sounding more and more like Kate Gosselin. "so EXHAUSTED" Every. thing. is about you. We all see it. You can stop this. Just recognize the signs and admit it to yourself. Therapy could help. Good luck.

&&&&

You're right. It's just like Kate to actually work a job, and it's just like Kate to be worried about what the outcome will be for all the vulnerable children, most of whom have been physical or sexually abused or neglected, who might be at grave risk if said job can't be worked by her and the hundreds of others who do the same thing. I do see it now, I am JUST like Kate.

What was Kate doing today? Oh, dancing in a car? TONE DEAF.

This is not really the time to throw nasty comments at someone about being just like Kate. People are going to be seriously hurt by this shutdown. We may need to do it, it may be the right thing, but it will not be without serious, even deadly, consequences. The fact that you're choosing to spend your time during a national emergency trolling a Kate Gosselin blog looking for whatever can be picked apart says much more about your state of mind than it does anything else.

From Dmasy --

We don't know how bad this pandemic will get. We will discover that we are not in control.

I am glad to be seeing signs of a brave and kind society. Less panic and more selfless planning. Facebook has an increase of sharing posts full of generous thoughts. Helpful suggestions. Encouragement. A focus on supporting others and less on where toilet paper is still available.

My little community organized a volunteer errands/shopping schedule for those that should not leave their home. Very quickly the effort reached outside our small development. We did our first pick up and delivery yesterday.

Kindness is always better than criticism. This gives us a chance to be a part of the solution.

Let's try to be proud of who we were in the middle of crisis.

Just a thought.

This is just wonderful and could really help to contain things.

I’ve been similarly moved by my coworkers the last 24 hours. We are being called essential workers so for now the plan is courts will stay open with skeleton crews. We are to leave home the moment the hearings are finished. People are brainstorming ways to limit our interactions and time at work and covering the work of more elderly attorneys and a few who are pregnant so they can stay home. No one is arguing, everyone has a great attitude. I’ve been so proud to be part of this and doing our small part to keep our justice system Intact through this.

Now, I went to 4 stores today, including Jewel, Walmart and Dollar Tree. All of them were out of toilet paper and kleenex. I had no choice but to buy a couple of packs of really soft napkins. In a pinch, you do what you have to do! LOL!! We'll get by.

Delivery on Sunday. Amazon is still out there moving merchandise.

I don't know about signs. I checked online and was directed to another store quite a ways away, with "limited" stock. I figured it would be gone by the I got there and I'm not yet desperate...

Not a big deal to wait then. If there’s one thing I learned during all this it’s that humans tend to wait until they’re down to their last roll of TP before restocking. Hence the TP panic.

Formerly Duped said...

Dmasy, I love Amazon too but we thought to order TP (not desperate yet but don't want to be!) from there and they said April delivery with a $65 shipment fee!Some brands would not even go into the ordering cart

NJGal51 said...

I went to Big Lots today to stock up on K Cups so we don’t run out of coffee. I ordered some things from Amazon. I’m not hoarding anything except distilled water because my husband’s CPAP calls for it. I don’t buy everything on the shelf, just the normal 2 or 3 jugs that I normally buy. I did stock up on lens wipes. Not only can I clean my iPad and glasses but I can also wipe my hands down with them when out and about. Since they’re mainly alcohol I figure that they’ll do the job and there’s not a buying frenzy on them yet.

Dr. Antony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, urged Americans to shut down more aggressively as the coronavirus spreads.
On MSNBC’s “Meet the Press” Mr. Fauci endorsed a 14-day “national shutdown” to help slow down the virus. He explained that he has brought it up with the administration, which is generally open to his ideas.
“I think Americans should be prepared that they are going to have to hunker down significantly more than we as a country are doing,” he said.

I went to the store early this morning when they opened, and I was able to buy a package of toilet paper! However the stores here are now rationing it. It's going to depend on the numbers. A week ago I would say there's no way they would do that. But look at Europe. They're doing it. They're doing curfews and only grocery stories and medical facilities open. Multiple countries are closing their borders. Grocery stores two days ago were saying they have plenty of supplies everything is fine, now they're saying actually never mind everything shutting down abroad actually is a problem. The public is going to demand it if things get bad enough and off we go.

CA governor is giving a 1pm press conference. I'm interested in seeing what the update is, what kind of trend the numbers are doing and what he's calling for if anything new.

This is going way too far. Again I'll say it, whether anyone agrees with me or not, the media has blown this whole corona virus WAY out of proportion. Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

It has gone too far. The ca governor is actually handling this so rationally. He actually said there’s no reason to close schools. Today he said over 65 stay home. Now that makes sense. Target the population actually getting overwhelming hurt compared to everyone else.

This is like a sledge hammer to the courts. The first judge in my building just said he’s calling out for two weeks to follow the order.

Maybe the news could talk about the 136 American children who have died from the flu through the Coronavirus outbreak.

Even our own governor of CA is saying schools, there is no need to close down. Please, it is not necessary. Casinos, no need to close down. It is not necessary.

What did they do? They did it anyway.

This continues to spark fear and panic as life as we know it shuts down.

Now, I will say this. I looked at the numbers again this morning. The deaths are overwhelming elderly, and it seems like they are getting it much easier too. So our governor is saying he wants our elderly to go into quarantine for 2 weeks. It's not an order. Yet.

But that all makes a hell of a lot more sense to me than trying to shut down the economy. It might make more sense in light of a disease that we are having grave difficulty stopping to just put our young and healthy out in front of it and let it run its course among the young and health populations, while we hide away the older and vulnerable. A totally different tactic than what has been done so far but one that makes far more sense to me.

Without a Crystal Ball has a new YouTube video up about Mady's latest posts, plus a couple more we've never seen:

Update on the sprained knee--I have moved past the bite-my-lip-til-it-bleeds-to-avoid-screaming phase, and entered the phase where I do that weird half-laugh/half-cry whenever I move. I see that as progress. I never knew a sprain could be so painful--maybe it's the fact that it's my knee that makes it so bad.

Having the sons at home helps keep me occupied during my in-home incarceration. We just finished the new season of Kingdom on Netflix. Anyone who hasn't watched (and if you like zombie shows), I highly recommend it! But you have to watch the first season to get all the background, don't skip to the second season. Anyway, one thing that jumped out at me is the fact that you don't see zombie children on The Walking Dead (except Sophia, of course). This one has zombie children, an actual cause for the zombie virus, mutations of the virus, etc, which makes it a lot more realistic (in some ways) than TWD. Two thumbs up from my family.

Are you talking about his press conference today? If so, that's not a fair characterization of what he said. What he said were that a number of districts closed without having a plan in place that they were able to implement. That's different than saying schools shouldn't be closed

$$$

Nope I’m talking about his Friday presser where he clearly said don’t close schools you might want to limit assemblies though and just have the kids stay in one class instead of intermingled. He talked at length about how the tradeoff is hosing everybody with closed schools is not worth any help it would do.

I do get LAUSD though. Those parents were out for blood if they didn’t Shut down. Unfortunately a lot of decisions have had to be made during this epidemic factoring in whether people are going to riot or not. The lowest common denominator public is operating off fears not facts and it’s played a major role.

I’m proud of Newsom though for not endorsing it. I’m sure he gets it but it’s not really what we need right now if it were up to him.
