Gosselin v. Gosselin: PA docket shows the children have a Guardian ad Litem, and Kate filed an appeal past the deadline resulting in its denial

The public record docket, linked to us by one of the lovely ladies here, shows some interesting information.

  • The best news of all is that at least one of the children, and hopefully all of them, are now listed as having a Guardian ad Litem, family law attorney Lauren Marks, who is a party to the case and invited to respond to any motions or requests. Marks' bio reveals she's a Penn State grad with experience as a public defender as well as experience as a GAL in "highly litigious" cases. She seems to be over qualified for this post!
  • Kate filed an appeal of an order in May three days late, to which the Courts asked her to "show cause" (I.e. explain) why the appeal should be heard. On June 14, they "quashed" the appeal due to her tardiness, which means she can no longer appeal.
  • The filing fee to file Kate's appeal was $90.50. Not to mention attorneys fees, of course.
  • A briefing schedule is in place, which basically means deadlines to turn in your documents, with a brief due Monday July 9 for Kate. It's unclear what the briefing relates to.

The full docket can be viewed here.

Per Curiam Appellant, K.I.G., defendant below, filed a notice of appeal from the final

Because the joke has to be made, maybe Kate's attorney couldn't find the courthouse? 😂😂

Also I feel like I've heard about the GAL before, but this is the first time I've seen her name.

Formerly Duped said...

What does this all mean, simply put? What will the GAL do for the rest of the kids?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

It means the kids get their own representative, someone who advocates for THEIR interests.

I wouldn't be surprised if the GAL had a huge hand in getting Hannah to Jon. When the momentum is all on Kate's side, or whatever side, a GAL can often be the only factor that could change things.

I had a wonderful experience being a GAL for two years and continue to work with some lovely ones every day, and if the judge trusts you, they're basically eating out of your hand. Which is great when you have a good sense of the case and the children and know what should happen.

Sad but true said...

The timing is interesting. Her appeal was denied on May 8, and Hannah first shows up in Jon's IG on May 10. Does that mean Hannah couldn't leave K8's until after the appeal period ended? If so, no doubt in my mind the lawyer responsible for the late filing has been terminated.

So happy there's a GAL involved.

So does that mean that Jon was awarded custody of Hannah on Apr. 5?

April 5 was also the day that Kate served Jon with the Complaint in Confession of Judgment referenced in the previous post, where she asking Jon for back child support.

I see Kate has a different lawyer, whose name I've never seen mentioned before. I wonder what happened to Cheryl Young?

&&&&

That's my best guess, which is what Kate was appealing. I do know you can only appeal final judgements (temporary judgements are writs, not appeals) so there was some sort of final order she's appealing.

This docket is like any other docket I've seen. Pieces of a puzzle you can make reasonable inferences about, but if you don't now the case, not knowing much more about what's going on, little is certain.

&&&

Possibly, if there was a stay. That's actually pretty common, so kids don't bounce back and forth during appeals that could change things. We try to do one move and one move only, not bouncing.

I don't see a stay on the docket, but doesn't mean there wasn't one.

If H told her GAL of the problems living with TFW wouldn't they have to act? Would Collin have a GAL too? Maybe that's why he's getting out of the facility, if he's ready. I will never fully believe that was the only choice for him.

I wonder how that Kate Needs A Date filming is coming along!

Great news! So Kate filed her lawsuit for $132K on the very day Jon was awarded custody of Hannah--obviously out of revenge. If he gets to take one of "her" kids, then she's going to make him pay--literally.

I was reading one of the recent articles about Jon and H, and they had the video on there of Kate's interview where she said she knows where C is, but the world does not (and smirks when the interviewer asks if that includes Jon). One other thing Kate says was interesting--the interviewer says that Jon is going to take her to court to force her to reveal where C is, and she said Jon has said that so many times, she doesn't even pay attention anymore. Maybe she should have paid more attention! Arrogant fool.

TLC better be hurry up and try to figure out how to market Kate Plus 6 (at most).

Finally I can comment!

I’ve been trying on the last post and they wouldn’t go through.

I wanted to acknowledge the poster that said hi but it wouldn’t go through. I think it was flimsy flamsy? It was a while ago and now I can’t remember. Sorry! But hello! Always nice to be here.

I also wanted to wish you all a great summer!

And Happy Summer to Jon and all the Gosselin kids. I know Hannah is enjoying her summer for sure, and I wish the same to the other kids.

Kate, I hope you’re miserable. But please don’t take it out on your kids.

“Anonymous” is very bitter over Jon getting custody of Hannah. Please don’t take it out on your kids (or family) either. I guess it’s better they vent here than all over them.

Still can’t believe she lost the appeal because “Kate was late.” Too funny! She would have lost anyway....

I wonder how much Figure 8/TLC know about these matters as they're happening. I really can't imagine them going on with a K8 solo show with this sort of back-story happening. I mean, talk about an elephant in the room.

The TLC upfronts happened just 4-5 days after the April 5 order allowing H to move to Jon's AND the lawsuit filed by K8 for back child support. I wonder if they knew at the time. . . .

Kate certainly didn’t look distraught over losing custody of Hannah.
She doesn’t care about those kids- her hate for Jon is all consuming.
Since the +8show is unlikely to return, we will see if Kate wants the kids anymore.
It seems that the only thing Kate wants control and custody of is the kids’ money.

Bizarre he doesn't appear to specialize in family law. He only pops up under real estate law. Maybe his firm is doing family law on the side, as lawyers tend to do. Still, if he blew that 30 day deadline, assuming that was his fault and not Kate's (it very well could be Kate's fault, maybe she didn't follow their directions to sign in time, etc), that suggests he's not really well versed in family law, which isn't wise.

A good lawyer should be able to rattle off all the standard deadlines in their field of law by heart (an appeal is X days to file, a writ is X days to file, a demurrer is X days to file, a affidavit of prejudice is X days to file, and so on).

PA Dutch Mom said...

Kate really has a lousy track record when it comes to hiring attorneys!

I would think that if Kate really has the welfare of the kids at heart, and she wants only the best for them, then she wouldn't fight the GAL thing. That said, she has to be in control, and after reading the PA Code and details of the GAL's role, I can see why she is fighting it.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

This might be a jack of all trades lawyer, judging by his area and the size of his practice. I wonder if cheap-o Kate is trying to strike a deal here somehow. Write up my family trust and I'll give you the family law case as well but you have to give me a discount.

Whatever the reason for this non-specialized attorney I bet you anything it has to do with money.

I wonder if the excellent family law/child custody attorneys in the area won't touch her case(s). Maybe she doesn't want to pay the rates of a good family law/child custody lawyer or won't follow their advice. Maybe all or a combination of the above. Khate is rapidly becoming a train wreck and the community of lawyers is a small one--the word may be out and she's just too much trouble to take on as a client. Plus, her case is getting weaker by the day . . one child is already living with Jon and another will reportedly be living with him soon. Any lawyer worth his salt would advise her to stop all the lawsuits and co-parent with Jon, but she will never do that.

Layla said...

I have to wonder what this has been costing TFW. When Colleen put up the GoFundMe account, the goal was $30K. That must have been what Jon was looking at having to spend on the custody case. But Kate has also filed an appeal (denied!), then the "show cause" thing (denied!) and also the lawsuit she filed against Jon. I think she's trying to destroy him financially, but she's had to pay more. If the show is done, then she might want to think about saving that money.

Now that we are finding out more about what's been happening, I am even more convinced that TLC only filmed the dating show to finish out a contracted number of episodes. If they contracted to do a full season of K+8, and then had to cut it off at only 3 episodes due to custody issues, they might have owed her X number of additional episodes per that contract (let's say they contracted for 8 episodes and only filmed the 3 that were aired. They would still owe her 5 episodes). So they filmed the remaining episodes as a dating show with just Kate. Which means she was lying when she said she didn't know why the season was cut short, and she was being totally delusional when she said she hoped there would be a new season in the fall (last year).

Layla said...

I tend to think the late filing is Kate's fault. The rules don't apply to her, and she is used to getting her way in court no matter what she does. It wouldn't have been a priority to her to make sure something got signed on time.

The theory that she went with this lawyer for financial reasons makes sense. Jon took Hannah away, and more importantly (to her), most likely the show. She wants to make him pay. I believe she's trying to ruin him financially with all her legal wrangling, but she may end up burying herself along with him. And she'll do that if she can take him down in the process. She can't help herself.

I guess that’s why there wasn’t a Mother’s Day picture this year. Maybe they were late because TFW was too busy getting ready for filming and didn’t sign and get her stuff back to the lawyer by the deadline. If she was returning with Jamie on 5/20 she was either gone or getting ready to go in the weeks preceding that date. Hannah and Collin who? It may have fallen through the cracks if she was focused on herself (which we all know she was). Hair, check, nails, check, spray tan, check, Botox, check....Hannah’s paperwork, I’ll sign it tomorrow.

According to police, they were gone upon their arrival, and no further action was taken."

Susan1956 (#34), surely it's been suggested to TFW that she co-parent with her children's father. But if any lawyer said it to her, she'd only hear blah blah blah.

That clip of TFW smugly admitting C's own father didn't know his son's whereabouts is so damning. She was PROUD of herself. Jon was a loving, caring, employed father being deliberately prevented from parenting his child. If C indeed has special needs, it was an even crueler choice. And somehow I'd like to think that cruelty is being duly noted by the powers that be.

Without getting into a discussion of how much money Khate may or may not have socked away or whether she is using the kid's money for these lawsuits, I think Khate has a bigger risk of financial ruin than Jon. Of course, her idea of financial ruin is probably different than ours--this is a woman who believes one can never have too much money.

This is also a woman who hasn't worked at her 'mediocre' nursing job in years, would need a refresher course to work in nursing again, has no other discernible job skills, and whose TV opportunities have almost run out. Even if she did return to nursing, what employer would hire her? Jon on the other hand has returned to his former career in IT and has developed a 2nd career as a DJ. Also, the more 'nuisance' suits she files, the more apt the court would be to make her pay Jon's legal fees.

In the long run, she may have to downsize or be unable to sustain her 1% lifestyle as a result of her choice to pursue this vendetta against Jon.

And with the plan being to transition Collin to JON, it just proves that the courts do not agree with Kate's assessment that he doesn't and shouldn't know how whereabouts.

And how evil is that, there was a parent ABLE to take him available, and you made the kid sit in a treatment center and didn't even give him a CHANCE to reunify with a biological parent.

Nothing is crueler.

Well yeah, I do pretty much remember this was an idea being pitched around for years now, and I'll believe it when I see it frankly.

In Kate's defense, she actually DID try to do other things besides exploit the kids, but was too stupid to ever get any of them to pan out. Also I recently speculated, in recapping the fake last episode of the series before Kate Plus 8 officially started, that Kate was not sad about being "cancelled" at ALL, because she had something else in the works and thought she was about to take off as a star of her own. That something could have been in part this idea of a dating show.

Yes that's how it is here, and it can make dockets confusing, because just because a briefing schedule is listed doesn't mean it's going to happen. It makes the most sense the briefing schedule was for the appeal, because generally appeals are what you most likely are going to be briefing.

This docket is pretty different than dockets I'm used to reading, def open to other interpretations.

I tend to think the same. Oh, I know clients like her.

Me: I mailed you the notice of appeal. Please sign it now, don't wait. Send it back now, don't wait. Please don't put me in a position where I'm filing it at the last minute, we might miss the deadline and if we miss it, no appeal.

Client screwed around and I finally get the signed notice of appeal on the last day it's due. I run back over to the courthouse and get it filed by 4:25, just in time, cursing all the way.

Client's fault! If your attorney was out sick that day or just didn't get to their mail because they were in trial all day, you're screwed.

That's totally possible.

It's most likely:

1. she's exhausted the local attorneys who want to take on such a mess of a case, a media case, that will never end. I would turn it down, either Kate or Jon.
or 2. family law attorneys cost boatloads and she's out of money or even if she has money, tired of blowing through it in court. She could have struck a deal with this guy, maybe he wants to learn family law and has never done it before so cut her a deal, or is a friend, or some other reason to cut her a deal.

I've been trying to catch up on the fabulously informative posts here, but have a question: What does all this mean in terms of the other children and custody issues? As far as I can tell, Jon has only seen the boys recently. Can he get a court order for custody time of the others, or can the kids simply say they don't want to go? If there is reason for Jon or his attys to suspect the other kids are being coerced or psychologically manipulated by their mother, what would need to happen for Jon to be awarded the custody time that he deserves? Cara/Mady are older, so I assume their voices carry more weight, and they can simply verbalize their desire not to see their father? It's a shame Jon didn't push the custody/visitation issue with them years earlier, before the psychological damage (by Kate) was done.

Also, is there any evidence all the kids have a GAL? It would seem likely only Hannah and probably Collin do, since their custody arrangements are the ones being challenged?

I wasn't able to see the actual docket, I think you might need to be on their servers like how our dockets work, but the poster here who I guess must be a local can see it, and says there's plenty of activity on it going back to 2015. So, at least three years of something going on on it. Sadly, it's not unusual for a bad custody battle to take three years.

&&&

I can't tell from the docket whether the GAL represents Hannah or all of them. But, it would be an unusual situation for only some of the siblings to get a GAL and not others. If things are contentious enough that the judge feels the child needs their own representation, that's usually going to go for all the kids.

I wonder if Katie $ue Kreider will be suing her children when they become of age. I am sure she has a vendetta against Hannah now, and any others that may escape the compound. She wasted so many opportunities that were handed to her and now she can't get the time of day from amyone.

That seems a given. No wondering about it!

We should have kept track of when we called various things, because we def called that she would turn on her own kids, ages ago.

Thanks to a read here for sending it to me I added the People magazine article to an old post, the one where she snippily says she hopes her kids don't settle, and the twins mouth off about Jon again. And she justifies sending Collin away, this was almost two years ago. It's interesting to compare it and contrast it to today, her arrogance is seeping out of her pores in 2016. She never thought things would change.

&&&&&&&&&
There may be a 3rd possibility. As TFMJG loses control of the kids, her need/attempts to remain in control will probably increase. She may be able to somewhat dominate this attorney since she has so much 'experience' in family court. The lawyer won't be able to do everything she wants so she will have someone to blame when she loses. "If he had just done it my way."

That's actually a really good, really good thought. A good family law attorney has control of their clients, runs the show, and doesn't put up with crap. If the client is so far gone they can't even stand that, the attorney themselves will fire the client. So yeah, absolutely, she could be seeking out somebody she can boss around.

I actually thought of a fourth possibility, though remote. Some clients, because they are out of money, do most of the work themselves, and hire an attorney to slap their name on the paperwork and do the court appearances so they appear professional to the court. This is a way to get an attorney for cheap. I don't THINK she's out of money, but anything is possible. And I can see her thinking, like you said, that she knows what she's doing and is better off handling this herself. She's a fool any which way you slice it.

Jennifer said...

Oh, I know Jon has been in court for years. I'm referring to the period before that, when Kate was on DWTS and he had that family friend attorney who actually seemed to be doing things right, and then suddenly fired him and withdrew all his claims:
http://extratv.com/2010/04/22/jon-gosselin-fires-attorney/

This is, according to old reports, supposedly the time Jon agreed to the arrangement where he wouldn't sue for custody if Kate dropped the child support issue? That could not have been on the advice of his attorney at the time; that was all on Jon and ultimately resulted in his complete alienation (thanks to Kate) from his twins and partial alienation from the tups (Alexis?). And if that's all true, although Jon has clearly learned and is doing the right thing now, shame on him for being cowed into signing away his rights to his children and not taking the advice of his attorney, who may have even been working pro bono. The results most likely would have been a lot different had he taken different action at the time.

&&&

Jon can sometimes make not so bright decisions, but we have a better understanding now of all the factors that went into this custody battle where in my view, it makes a lot more sense to me now.

Number one, he was in the MIDDLE of a terrible, contentious custody battle and dealing with a parental alienator that clearly was harming the children, notably Collin. This woman made it very clear to him she would take every last penny from him until he had nothing but a cardboard box, and then what good is he to the kids? This woman went so far as to imply he was sexually abusing Hannah. Somebody had to wave the white flag. He did so, and I believe he did it because he genuinely thought it would be better for the kids for this all to just STOP. I don't find it noble, or wise, to continue to take your kids through absolute hell until you win. Not if it means you damage the kids in the process. I believe he also thought backing off would calm Kate down (it didn't, but hindsight is 20/20). If that means making the difficult decision of stepping back, that is something to consider, and there have been rare occasions where I've suggested the same to clients. Stepping back is ALWAYS an option in litigation and can be a good one in certain situations.

Whether that decision was a good one or not we'll never know. Even if Jon had gone balls to the wall for custody, there is absolutely no telling whether the judge would have agreed. So then he would have been left broke, the kids damaged, and no custody. It seems the deciding factor here has far more to do with Hannah herself wanting it, and that was what helped change things. Custody can be done with an unwilling child and is done, but it makes things a whole lot smoother when the child agrees to the custody, especially older children.

Jon could have fought all he wanted but until the children start to wake up and realize what Kate is and how she has duped them about who Jon is, it will ALWAYS be an uphill battle and ALWAYS cause terrible heartache on his kids.

Jon made certain decisions throughout these long years that you can Monday morning quarterback all you want, but the truth is nobody can know for sure what's the best move to make in a terrible family law case until you've played it out and see what happens. They're just not as certain as you would like them to be.

At this point I want to focus on the positives, on what is being accomplished here to give these kids a CHANCE at a normal childhood, and stop second guessing everything else. What's done is done, time to look forward.

____

I don't think it was as early as 2010. Here's a quote from an ROL piece in 08/12:

"Cheryl Young has represented Kate in her ongoing legal battle with her ex-husband, and she told RadarOnline.com that Jon no longer has to pay a penny to Kate Opens a New Window. , 37, for their eight children.

“I read Jon’s statement on RadarOnline.com and was quite surprised to read that he claims to be struggling to keep his child support payments current. As of April 27, 2012, Kate voluntarily relieved Jon of all current and future child support obligations for their eight children,” she said."

https://radaronline.com/exclusives/2012/08/kate-gosselin-jon-gosselin-child-support/

I think this was at the point where Jon had exhausted his ability to pay the $22K a month she got for the first couple of years, post-divorce. His support must have been reduced ($3,500/mth was the number reported), but he wasn't even able to come up with that amount.

Yes, obviously protracted legal battles between parents can be very difficult on the kids, but look at their home life with their mother, who is a documented physical child abuser as well psychological abuser. I'm not trying to be overly critical of Jon or dads in general, but in this particular case, given what we know (now as well as then), I wouldn't be surprised if some of the hostility the other children feel toward Jon has to do with his not fighting harder for them when it counted (not that it's too late now, but a lot of damage has clearly been done).

There was a quote from someone behind the scenes of The Handmaid's Tale where they talked about kids who are separated from their parents via some traumatic circumstance and later reunited. Research showed that the children tended to want to know why the parent didn't search harder for them or try harder to get them back. It's not unreasonable to assume that the G kids could have the same kind of response.

I know what's past is past, but I am just really curious to know what happened in 2010 when Jon relieved his family attorney of his duties just as he seemed he may have a good case. I would guess TLC threatened him, but I would equally guess that the attorney would have been able to counter any possible threats. The attorney was suddenly gone almost as soon as he was retained, so it seems odd that Jon would have a sudden change of heart as to the best interests of his children not being dragged through court; there must have been some external factor involved.

Again you're Monday morning quarterbacking it.

I could just as easily speculate that a child could wonder, and they do wonder, why the heck a parent took them through such a long custody battle, why the heck they didn't just call a truce and back off. Why did they put them through such hell? Jon gave the kids the gift of respecting their wishes, even KNOWING, they were being alienated, and one could just as easily speculate that's what they needed the most.

I've watched kids get separated from their parents for ten years, both by the foster care system and by ICE itself (funny how only now people are interested in the damages of this when it somehow has to do with hating Trump--people, this has gone on YEARS) and the truth of the matter is some kids do fine with it, some do not, some want their parents to do this, some that. Some resent them, some have a wonderful relationship with them. Some want to see them, some don't. There is no set "script" a parent can follow when this happens to ensure everything will be fine between them and their child. If I knew it I would have passed it along to Jon!

It's all speculation how a child is going to feel. A parent can only make the best decisions he knows how to make in the moment and hope for the best. We can't see how each decision will play out.

I find this statement contradictory. If they are being alienated, then there is no way to know what their true wishes are, is there? Even if he hears it from their mouths, it does not mean it's not coming from their mother.

Golly Gee was able to show all of us that you can be confined to a small space. ( For her, by dialysis and oxygen tubes and deteriorating health.) And, from that little corner you can stretch out and make friends. You can inspire others to give to a charity. You can stir the memories of nostalgic TV shows and connect with others who remember the same Andy Griffith episode.

But, most important -- if you are truly loved, your family will come to your space and stretch the edges of the confinement.

We didn't know all of her life -- but we knew her heart.

I'm afraid Blogger has been very buggy this year. A couple things on my admin panel no longer work, for instance apparently they stopped emailing comments to approve, which made approval so easy. Now you have to go into the admin panel itself to see pending comments, difficult to do on a phone.

I have a suspicion the reason things don't work is that they're not bothering anymore. There is a part of me that is a teensy, tiny bit nervous Google may be slowly edging back from supporting blogger. Blogs aren't as common anymore these days, it's all about twitter and the more one-liner instant things. I can't say I'd be totally shocked if Google closes down blogger. If that happens, we'll figure something out. But I think we should be prepared this could be on the horizon eventually. I'm sure they'll give us lots of notice if so.

&&&

The other poster could only see one scenario, Jon screwed this all up. I specifically explained that that is really just speculation, and I specifically said that I TOO could speculate. So yes, I'm speculating.

But, the problem with your theory remains. If Jon isn't interested in the kids then how does he have Hannah and why is he so engaged with Collin, and according to Hannah, getting him soon? When you have a theory, everything needs to fit into place with it. That's a big problem that doesn't fit the "Jon is a deadbeat" narrative. Huge.

And now they're saying they're going to go with the same team of divers every time because they're the ones who know how to do this the best. So that means, they need to sleep, rest up, eat, before each new dive. This is going to take all week. The poor boys who go last!

I find this statement contradictory. If they are being alienated, then there is no way to know what their true wishes are, is there?

&&&

I'm not understanding this comment. A kids' wishes are their wishes. Whether they are influenced by outside forces is irrelevant, they are still what they want.

What you're talking about is a kids' best interest, which is not the same thing as a kid's wishes. So, should Jon have gone with what was in their best interest and disregarded their wishes, because their feelings were so obviously being influenced by Kate? Maybe, maybe not. Had he done that he could have made things worse. Again, it's all woulda coulda shoulda at this point and since nobody knows what that answer would be because we can't rewind and redo life's choices, this is all quite counterproductive.

Two that come to mind:
1. Kate keeping the unbroken lollipop for herself and rationalizing giving a broken one to an icky boy.
2. Her insisting she and her group needed to be on the air conditioned rv. Any caring mother would have placed ALL the children on the cooled rv and she sweat it out on the rv with the broken a/c. (Of course a caring mother wouldn’t have forced her kids to support her for 14 years!)

She couldn't hack this situation.

The Guardian has some of the best reporting on this, and they are saying that although there are some mixed feelings about the coach's decision to take them in there, by all accounts he has been the boys' rock. He kept them calm and in one places , gave all his food to them, and as a result is exhausted and weak. Rumor is he may already be out because he is so weak from his heroics.

Now on another note, the Guardian is also reporting that they are not letting the parents see the kids yet who are out because they want to stabilize them and they don't want the other parents who don't have their kids yet to feel bad. This is a HUGE mistake. All these kids need is a big bear hug from mom and dad and to hold their hand in the hospital bed. I don't care if it makes the other parents feel bad, this could do more psychological damage than being in the cave itself! They really need to rethink this!

I stopped watching Kate + 8 well before the actual trickle off ending. There were several red flag moments for me. I recognized her lack of maternal instinct. She seemed to see the world only through her self absorbed eyes. Her behavior brought some long buried memories to the surface.

Perhaps the one episode when I took my deepest breath and gritted my teeth is one we have discussed here before.

I will never, never understand.

Her butt was sunken comfy into some corner of a piece of display furniture in a showroom. A salesman hovered near by. She has the MOST important brochure to scrutinize. An oval office document could not have demanded more concentration.

An annoying little fellow cried for her attention. Cried, clutching the backside of his pants. I believe he articulated, "Mommy, my hiney hurts."

Not her job. Not her concern. Not.

Golly would probably be bouncing in her bed with the news that Collin might be coming home to Jon. She would definitely have much to say about that turn of events.

But when I saw that furniture shopping one, I didn't like her. She ignored her toddler son who was suffering. She passed all the care of him off on his father instead of sharing in the care. She made him film when he was suffering. And the rest was history.

What a coincidence that's the same boy with all the struggles. What a coincidence.

Dmasy (#119), I think she described C as an "antelope" as he writhed in pain on her lap -- for the 2 seconds she tolerated him there. Then it was back to the catalogue. Yes, it was like she was reading the Pentagon Papers and couldn't be disturbed. I remember her "talking" to the catalogue, saying to one of the beds something like, "Why don't you come in white?" It was more important to her to be cute for the camera than take care of her little boy.

Am I the only one who thinks if TFW was stuck in a cave with her kids that when the rescuers came, she'd make sure SHE got out FIRST?

====

She couldn't hack a rainy day in the Alaskan wilderness even when there was a warm fire and access to food - albeit moosedogs - OH the horror! So we know darn well that if she was trapped in a cave with 12 icky, smelly boys she'd step on their heads to get to the front of the line to be rescued.

Admin (#120), I also remember Jon grinning during the couch interview afterwards and saying something like, "I took care of my son's problem." He'd taken C outside and, er, um, "handled" the impaction, while Mommies Dearest kept her hands clean.

And to then turn it into such a major issue -- if the kids stayed there, they'd no longer be Gosselins? Again, if she said stuff like that ON CAMERA, imagine the kind of mind-effing she's capable of behind closed doors.

Other sources are saying the children are being isolated because of weakened immune systems. Perhaps the medical team on the scene has a better sense of what these children need than you do...
$$$

The parents can scrub in just like a doctor. There is no reason they can’t scrub in and be with their children

Children in the US with terribly compromised immune systems from life threatening diseases like cancer are still allowed to be with and hug their parents.

Love and hugs from family has scientifically proven to boost the immune system.

Admit it, this is absurd. These kids must be distraught.

I was just reading back over some missed comments, and thinking about the torment Hannah had to go through to live with her dad. We always speculated that the kids who visit Jon are put through some hell when they get home, and after all that has happened with H, I am even more sure of that. Last summer there was the incident where Kate yanked H's arm so hard that H has to go to the hospital afterward. Any other mother would be careful not to physically hurt her child, but to Kate, getting Hannah back under her control was more important. And she was quoted as telling H, "We'll get yo some counseling". That must have been terrifying when you consider what had happened to Collin. Kate would absolutely have made H disappear (and refuse to tell Jon where H was) before she lost control of her, and I' sure H is smart enough to know it. Then there was the shunning by the other kids, and now (according to H's recent IG live), Kate doesn't see Hannah. The whole process must have been terrible for Hannah, yet she never gave up. The others saw what H had to go through, and I doubt they want to go through that themselves, even if they want to be with Jon. They have to wonder whether their mother will hurt them, whether she will succeed in making them disappear and refuse to tell anyone where they are. And they know that if they prevail and go to live with Jon, their mother will cut them off completely. At least now they can see both parents because they know Jon will be there for them no matter what.

Considering all that Kate did to Hannah, I would not be surprised if she made the kids' lives a living hell during previous legal skirmishes, to the point that they begged Jon to just let it go so it would all stop.

I just watched the video of Golly Gee, and it made me cry! Such a beautiful soul, just as we all knew her to be.

Sooo, we just had a get-together with my married son and his wife, and they are being encouraged to explore certain fertility options to become parents. They have exhausted their options that do not carry risks of multiple births, and have had no luck. I am encouraged to hear that they are taking time to prepare for the possibility of having more than one baby at once, especially financially. They are very good with money, and are holding off until they have their house paid off and a specific minimum dollar amount in savings, and until my son gets his next step promotion at work (that will be in 2 years). Then my DIL will be able to stay home, and of course they have lots of family and friends close by who are all willing to pitch in and help. I am so proud of them for being so logical and planning this out so carefully. That is so like them--they dated for 7 years before getting married (they were high school sweethearts). They don't rush into anything. So--while everyone is a bit nervous about what the future holds, we are all behind them and ready to support their decision to go forward with this.

They are not even letting the parents go to the hospital or telling them who is out. Nothing about that has anything to do with keeping the kids “isolated from infection.” There is no reason the parents can’t know if their particular kid is ok.

At the end of the day Thailand is a third world country. People are really outraged and trying to explain to the authorities the psychological damage to this could be astronomical. It’s not just me. If you don’t believe me, ask the psychologists involved.

Exactly. Wtf. These kids need mom and dad not some politician looking for a soundbite. I’d throw a fit if this was my kid.

They only found these kids because of the British, thank god they at least accepted their help, and now despite psychologists explaining to them they need to see their parents, they’re disregarding that too. And now we know it’s not for a quarantine at all if the PM can waltz in there for a visit. Third world country. No excuse.

These parents are being way too submissive, being pushed around agreeing to be kept in the dark about who is out and who is still inside and not even see them. That is indeed probably cultural, but it doesn’t make it ok. Maybe if enough people put some pressure on the government about this instead of sitting on their hands and nobley respecting “cultural differences” they would change their minds. They’ve done so before during this rescue.

You haven’t been following it that closely. British and Americans are the ones leading the charge, and numerous times the Thai authorities contradicted what they said and made reckless statements about taking them out the first day they found him (they were never coming out that day or even the next). The only person that died was Thai and it was a stupid death. It was to the point where the British divers were obviously getting really annoyed at all the misleading cross talk and numerous times had to contradict the Thai statements. In addition the Thai statements have often been extremely vague and ambiguous, which is irritating. At the end of the day they’re getting them out thank god but it’s really despite the Thai government, not because of them. Third world country.

When you’re up to speed on the history of the past week come back to discuss. I suggest the guardian and bbc.

Doctors and nurses are obviously seeing them. So you scrub the moms and dads in and let them in.

If you have to you can put an isolation tent around them. But for god sake let mom and dad hold them.

The whole idea of not just leaving them down there for months to wait for the water, which frankly was the safest option and the one the British were preferring, was so they wouldn't be psychologically damaged by months of no contact. This could all be ruined by not letting them see mom and dad.

Here's another quote from The Guardian about the reason for the separation published just a few hours back, and again they emphasized it has mostly to do with not hurting the feelings of parents whose kids are still down there! The hell?

"Doctors quoted by Thai media said the delay was to manage the mental health of the parents whose children are still inside the cave."

I'm sorry but if I've got a kid still down there, I'm going to tell the authorities to just go ahead and tell the parents whose kids are safe. I would want them to do the same for me. I would feel awful keeping a kid from his parent just so that I won't feel badly. I couldn't do it. It's wrong.

It's suddenly about the parents' mental health? What about the kids who need mom to HUG THEM? Surely the still-separated parents can sacrifice themselves so a kid can get a damn HUG.

Funny all the hoopla over separated children here, but it's just fine and dandy to separate these kids from ready and available parents. This is the worst part of an otherwise wonderful story of resilience and cooperation, and it's tainting the whole thing.

Maybe it's for legal reasons in case the remaining children don't survive, or maybe they worry the parents won't be able to handle that their child didn't survive because they weren't chosen first to be rescued.

Although I'm sure the parents will eventually find out who was in the hospital the first day, etc. Unless they burn the records if some don't make it out alive.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even say that some children didn't make it. They may make it seem that all were rescued and sent to the hospital, and some survived there, while some didn't.

I think that’s sort of the idea behind it, more or less, so that nobody feels left behind. But again, why the sudden concern about the parents mental health and why does that suddenly trump a little child’s mental health?

I also get that the parents are standing together on this so they can all be reunited at the same time, but they are poor rural families. They don’t seem to be understand the psychological impact of such a brave decision on the kids who are out. If I were an 11 year old kid who can’t see my mom, I would start imagining that maybe they are lying to me and maybe she’s dead. My mind would go to all sorts of terrible places. That kind of thing can have a terrible impact on recovery. Again, numerous psychologists are weighing in on this saying this is highly unusual and very risky to the boys’ mental health.

OH has the same conspiracy theory. He said he thinks something has happened to one or more of the boys and that’s why there’s such vague statements and bizarre secrecy.

I mean they do seem to be clear all the kids out are alive and well so this would have to be quite the coverup.

As for not telling parents in case some don’t make it...I mean they’re going to find out anyway so whats the point in holding that back.

I think there is certainly logic behind this strange decision, just very poor logic.

If this were going to be an 8 hour rescue I think I'd understand this better. But the rescue is proving to take days. They haven't even started on the last couple trips. They're using the same team every time, so they need to rest, eat and sleep to be ready to go at it again. When all is said and done I wouldn't be surprised if it takes 1-2 more days or more. Then you add into it the 2-3 or more days they claim the boys need to be kept in isolation? How long does this separation go on? Do they wait until the last boy goes through his isolation before they see them, or will they be allowed to see them before others are done with isolation. And if that's the case, if they won't see their parents all at once anyway, then what was the point in the first place?

And it's one thing to wait with all the parents. Quite another to be kept in the dark about who is saved and who is not. You can't even facetime your own child while they sit there by themselves wondering and waiting for you, because you yourself don't know who is saved or not. I really hope the Thai government listens to what the mental health EXPERTS are telling them and finds a way to work this out.

It's almost cruel and unusual, and I can't imagine any parent happy to keep another parent from their child, regardless of where your child is or how long it will take to see yours. It's brave to wait as a group. But it's braver still to let other parents go on ahead and get their kids while you still wait for the fate of yours. Now that's brave.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Before the boys can enjoy a warm embrace with their relatives, doctors must be confident they will not make anyone ill.

&&&

Okay, they just changed the goalposts again! Now they're saying they're worried the BOYS will infect others. Not that others will infect them.

What the HELL is going on here? What could they have possibly caught down there? It's just an isolated cave, it's not a concentration camp. So they get salmonella from the bad water, so then wash your hands before you hug mom. I don't care if I come down with diphtheria, get me to my kid! Are the parents seriously holding back on the off chance THEY could get sick?

What a disappointing culture that has put so many petty things above HUGGING YOUR CHILD who has just been through the work 2 and a half weeks of his life. You can hug them in a hazmat suit if you have to, there are ways around this. There's culture and then there's cruelty.

I think we do not realize cultural differences in how others react to crisis and instead are shocked that the reaction is not as ours would be. If you want an example, think of Vietnam and its defeat of the French first and then the Americans. I have puzzled this over since 1967-69 when I saw first hand. Not that I believe that was good but how strong the cultural belief. Just my thoughts when I read how parental instinct is expressed in different parts of the world.

&&&

It's interesting! And it's definitely cultural, but not all cultures, as we know, function in the people's best interest.

It was once culturally okay in the United States to send children to work in factories. We understand better now that is emotionally and physically detrimental to that. We changed the culture, through tenacious hard work. There is a fine line between respect and appreciation for a culture, and recognizing when a cultural norm is actually harmful and saying something.

The other piece of this is that clearly there are some lies going around now. Claiming that the parents could catch their diseases is scientifically nonsense, and doctors are going on record saying so, saying anything they would have gotten is bad-water based and not contagious. Is it cultural to lie, too?

If the boys suffer because of this separation, and I pray not, it may be time to re-examine the culture.

Cultural deference is all fine and dandy until the culture harms people especially kids.

They originally said that was the concern. Then it switched to the boys could infect the parent (like these distraught parents care!) The story keeps changing. They keep offering different excuses why. And it doesn’t explain why the parents couldn’t scrub in with sterile masks and gowns. They also haven’t explained why they had no problem with the original plan of a parent riding in the emergency vehicle with their child, with psychologists saying such parental support is crucial to the transition back to the real world, then suddenly changed the plan and now say no parents at all. Something is starting to sound very fishy here and the international community is weighing in pointing it out. This goes beyond a simple reasonable explanation. Nothing has been consistent over the past 24 hours.

Or holding the kids hostage until they get reimbursed for cost of rescue? Crazy ideas! But like other poster said, this is starting to sound fishy... are they keeping the kids separate to get details on the coach?

So I guess it was another lie that the parents are "sticking together" at the cave site until all were rescued? Not so, the ones whose kids were rescued apparently went to the hospital. (GOOD)

This lies that came out about this all of a sudden were perplexing. Why?

&&&

Predicted it, god no.

But in hindsight, it makes perfect sense to me now. She is one of the sharpest, a bit more mature than the others, developmentally appeared to be hitting her firsts before anybody else. Wasn't she the largest tup? Always the leader. And, when she was younger, she was close to Jon. Remember the pics of her running off the bus into his arms, or enveloping him in a big bear hug?

It was really Kate who told us she was Mommy's little helper all the time. I don't think she was Mommy's little helper at all in hindsight. I think she was just generally a helpful leader of a child, and was likely daddy's little helper just as much. And probably teachers and friends, too. It's her personality, it has nothing to do with wanting to give special deference to Kate.

So it makes sense that a smart child would one day wake up, and, just as we predicted some eventually would, realize they have been alienated from a loving father, realize they want a relationship with him despite what their mother thinks about how they should feel, and acts on it.

Hindsight, as usual, is 20/20.

So amazing that the British, Chinese and Australians came to help the Thai Navy Seals, with such a wonderful outcome.

Pneumonia Is not contagious! You can absolutely have visitors, it's good for your spirits! The doctors were quoted directly by Guardian interpreters as rattling off diseases the boys had or could get and how they don't want the parents to catch them. The Guardian then went to their own doctors, and they said not a single one of those diseases are contagious.

Rejoicing they got everybody out. And interesting theory they want to question the boys about the coach. The Thai government did say about a week ago they have not ruled out criminal charges against the coach.

I hope no charges are laid against the coach. It may have been a bad choice but not his intention to harm the boys. He is young and also has a sad past of losing loved ones and had his own illness. He really is fond of the kids from what I understand in the letter to the parents, and he promised to take care of the boys while trapped in the cave. He suffered too.The parents are calling him a hero.who knows what he did to prevent the boys from panicking and to keep their spirits up and be as safe as possible.JMO from what we know.

I'm not sure prison can be any more punishment than having to live 18 days in a cave plus knowing you are responsible for all this both during and probably the rest of his life.

I think this is one of those few instances where even though what he did was dumb, reckless, possibly even criminal, the punishment has been served before you ever get to prison.

It's supposedly a right of passage to race to the end of the cave and back for a young man. I'm sure some of the fathers did the same, and many of the locals. The stars aligned to create a really, really unlucky situation the day they went in. Bad dumb luck, yes. Criminal, I also think they should let that go.

Pneumonia is not contagious, but bringing in any outside bacteria could make the boys' condition worse, especially in their weakened state. Still, not all of then have it, so I can't see why the healthier boys couldn't see their parents. Or maybe that report was erroneous--we don't really now right now. There is so much misinformation out there about this story. I'm just happy they are all (as far as we know) out alive and well. Just a few days ago it was being said that they might not all survive. Let's just be thankful and wait until the true facts all come out.

The world just breathed a sigh of relief. It's funny how it doesn't happen until the news comes that they're above ground and safe, even though these 13 people were on the other side of the earth and strangers to you. It's just human nature to be concerned.

At least there wasn't a #SuperFunMonsoon tweet from Schmoopy.

Hey maybe Jon can get those Navy Seals to rescue the rest of his kids from the GHFEC cave. (Just a thought 🤔😉)

It's all Jon's fault that they ventured into that cave in Thailand. He should have known that it would be flooded with no escape route and warned them. Jon is to blame for everything.

If they televise this rescue leaving Kate bound and gagged in her mine all mine mansion, that's a Kate related show I would watch.

Jeremy and Audrey Roloff are finished with their TLC show. I'm impressed they are walking away. I believe that leaves one of the children (Zach) still filming on a regular basis. Will TLC continue with the show?

I am under the impression that they are being cautious as to what the boys may have picked up in the cave, since they really have no idea of what is down there. Think Ebola. They could be carriers of something, and a real threat to the public. They are running blood tests to make sure they aren't carriers of anything. They are under quarantine, the same as astronauts returning from space missions. Parents can see them, talk to them. It's not like they are ripping them out of the parents arms and sending them to different parts of the globe or anything. Because that would certainly be wrong.

Just saw Jeremy Roloff, his wife, and their average sized baby are leaving the Little People, Big World show. This is surprising. I wonder if it's voluntary or if they are being pushed out. The wife is arrogant. Their family is average sized, and they aren't likely to have dwarf babies, but they are part of the Roloff family. He's been on the show since the beginning as a kid. They don't do anything except some side stuff on the internet.

Ah yes. It could be a stealth operation. I can hear the Mission Impossible theme now. Ratings would soar... Crowds would gather in Time Square...

I just read an article that states the Thai coach is a former Buddhist Monk and had the boys meditating with him and that helped them stay calm and have hope. I can't see anything sinister in this. I think it is something that is done all the time. Bless all the people helping with the rescue, the boys, the coach and the diver who lost his life and those who continue to help.

Jer and Auj are leaving the show. They are actually boring people with nothing going on. Zach and Tori have personalities and are much more enjoyable to see how they are doing with their little family. This show probably won't last much longer anyway what with the love lives of the parents.

What’s done all the time? Going into the cave? I don’t think anyone is saying the coach did anything malicious. Just neglectful and reckless. That’s what neglegence is. A stupid mistake, but unintentional. Still I just feel like there is really no point in prosecuting him. To have him sit in jail? That doesn’t really accomplish anything and if the parents, who are also victims of his, don’t want it, then I wouldn’t press the issue. Easy forgiveness is one aspect of their culture that will serve their emotional recovery well.

I’m shocked Jeremy is quitting. Gotta be something more to that. I have a sneaking suspicion all the cameras and attention are not what his wife thought they would be. Playing out your pregnancy and breastfeeding issues all on cameras wasn’t as romantic as she thought.

I read Jeremey's statement and I noticed he said that HE decided to quit the show a year ago, that this would be their last year.

So, he and his wife didn't make this decision together?

And he isn't saying why. Hmm. Something has always seemed slightly off about this marriage.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think Jeremy thinks they can actually make a living at their dumb "beating 50 percent" gig. Which is basically tips on how to stay together. From a couple who has been married a hot minute.

But at least it isn't exploiting their kid.

My local guys were reporting on the radio that how it went down is the kids ran AHEAD into the cave, and the coach was following after them, trying to keep it. I'm not exactly sure where they got that from, but if true that really changes things. I can totally see 12 years old boys running way too deep into a cave while the adult struggles to find them and get them back closer to the entrance. The downpour hits, and they're screwed.

I chaperoned 11, 12, 13 year olds in Australia for two weeks. It was not easy to keep them all corralled. And they're BABIES, they were all sobbing for their moms within a couple nights. Almost all anyway.

I like Zach and Tori so much better. Tori seems so much more genuine to me, has kept her day job which is a noble one, teaching, and is interesting because she's raising a son with a significant disability with all the love and support one could possibly hope for from a mom. He's a lucky kid.

Jeremy and Audrey are more about how to suction out money from fans and promote stupid products and seminars and talk about hipster things like essential oils and organic child rearing (until your kid is a nightmare and you cave and do what everybody else does). It's a little scam-y, and fake.

This story just gets more interesting. Elon Musk has had a bit of a spat with Thai authorities after initially seeming to shake hands with the pod he built for the rescue they decided not to use. He said the Thai governor was actually not in charge at all and he was working directly with the British, and that the pod was ready and good to go and certainly would have worked. Which is what I was saying, that everything I've been reading suggests there was quite a split between the Thai authorities and everybody else about how this was going to go down. The British, Americans and Australians were the ones really in charge here, thank goodness.

Frankly, that pod looked a whole hell of a lot safer. Doing a rescue with this kind of bureaucratic sludge going on must have been hell.

The Guardian is reporting at least some of the parents will be allowed to see the kids within a two-metre distance with the parents wearing a medical gown, face mask and hair net. Goodness, that's so much better!

If some of the boys have pneumonia, that can be life threatening. God forbid if anything happened to them and they never got to see their parents again? It's so wrong.

But seriously, hair net? Do they not want any hairs to pop up in the cafeteria pizza? Lol.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The real leaders, the British, were frantically emailing back and forth with Elon saying they might use his pod after all, the smallest boy was really weak and they weren't sure he could scuba.

But in the end the kid made a go of it and made it.

Could we send her out in Elon Musk's unused rescue pod, and then oopsie, Elon forgot to leave directions how to open it back up once closed?

Admin (#193), I suspect there's more to this Jeremy and Audrey story than we know about. Judging by their rambling social media posts, they think every word out of their twentysomething mouths is profound. And their baby is definitely used as part of their "brand." I cannot possibly imagine them -- especially her -- voluntarily removing themselves from the spotlight.

They do have a book coming out next year. Maybe they think it will catapult then to bigger fame, or a reality show of their own?

There is no Ebola in Thailand. There was only ever one reported case in 2014 and he's not Thai at all, he came from Africa and he's fine now. It is not transmitted through caves, it's transmitted through direct contact with other people.

The doctors themselves actually rattled off all the diseases they were concerned about. The Guardians asked their doctors, and their doctors said not a single one of those diseases is contagious so they couldn't figure out what the problem was.

Diseases don't hide out in caves nobody goes to. They are in plain sight in areas where lots of people are.
