Recap: Kate Plus 8 "The Finale": Move over, Angelina Jolie

Still finishing out the last few remaining recaps I haven't done and we now come to the series finale, from September 2011.

If you're wondering why there were about 30 new episodes of this God forsaken mess that aired long after "The Finale" aired, well, you should be. As you may recall from long, long ago, this show really did have a pretty big cancellation announcement six years ago, with tears and regrets and fans in a tizzy. It was 2011, just a hair before television really started to change, for the better (for the most part). There are a lot more platforms to get a series on television these days, and television has been expanding, giving viewers a lot more choices and niche genres. Shows regular networks never would have taken a chance on have thrived on services like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu. This expansion has left a lot more room for shows to get their reunion episodes, or for many, a total revival.

Back in the day, if your series were cancelled, you really were cancelled. You would never be heard from again other than the $9.99 DVD bin at the grocery store. A few very good series got a reunion episode or two, or even a movie, but that was rare.

Some of these revived shows they've put together recently are simply charming and a wonderful throwback, like Full House or Gilmore Girls. Others should never have been messed with, like Boy Meets World and Will and Grace. Kate got her revival too, starting back up again in 2014 to the present, and it never should have happened. The kids were older and more outspoken and disgruntled, and as we now know during much of this time, Collin was having such serious issues he is no longer living in the family home. The family should never have gone back on T.V. post-2011, but here we are.

An unintended consequence of this sea change is that revived shows like Kate Plus 8 seem to be surviving on much lower ratings than they ever could before, and new episodes are being ordered, albeit on obviously lower budgets, when they never would have been before. Voting with your remote doesn't seem to make much of a difference these days, with such low audiences. So in sum, the changing T.V. landscape is great for most shows, but breathes life into a few that shouldn't be here, with little to no way for viewers to get them off their screens.

Another interesting thing that seems to have happened is networks don't seem to be making grand cancellation announcements anymore, not usually anyway. Probably because they want to leave a door open. I'm not even really sure if Kate Plus 8 got the axe again this year; TLC was never really clear. For those whose incomes depend on their series, not just the talent but the local production companies, such treatment is rather cold, but as we learned now more than ever recently, Hollywood is more self-interested and devoid of any morals or accountability than we ever imagined.

Predictably, this show is going to be full of old clips we've seen before, some many times before. But they also do an unusual format for this show where some of the major players sit down for a one-on-one interview, like Steve, Ashley, and Jamie, who remarks that she always tells Kate she's not Angelina Jolie. Baw, she's pretty good sometimes.

Interestedly enough, old clips of Jon are shown, which invokes legal implications, like possibly having to pay him again. I wonder how that all shook out and whether he noticed and demanded his check.

This aired just after the infamous RV episodes, so we're going to rehash all the drama of those. You can review my recaps here and here if you're interested in the finer details, but the short story is Kate actually thinks she did everything on the RV trip and was pleasant at it too, and that was really f-ing obnoxious to those who actually were doing it all and exhausted, like Ashley and Jamie.

Kate is actually blaming her nasty troll-like behavior on that trip on stress and the hot weather. Classic not taking responsibility for her role as chief instigator.

I like how the Kiwis say tense. Sounds like "teens."

This segment goes on and on.

Jamie I think at her heart is a good person with a good head on her shoulders, despite her misguided friendship with Kate. Jamie says fine blame it on stress, but the reality is that is no excuse to treat the people who love you and support you the most poorly. Well, right! Also, I really like how the producers obviously interviewed Kate first, then went tattle-taling to everyone else about what she said to see what they would say. Heh!

This reminds me of a scene in the upcoming season of The Crown, which has had a great opportunity to show itself off thanks to the changing landscape of TV I was just talking about. It is one of the best series I've ever seen, a slow but delicious plod month by month through Queen Elizabeth II's life starting at age 20. (It will go on many seasons as long as it continues to do well. We're only up to her early 30's now.) In it Queen Elizabeth appears to be irritated by everything going to shit around her--the prime minister resigning, her sister on all the front pages of the tabloids, her mother always on her case. All of this makes her job harder. And Phillip, her husband, stares her down and asks her if it occurs to her that she has people in her life who are there for her no matter what.

"If only," Elizabeth replies.

I think Elizabeth has grown tremendously as she's aged, and learned a lot in particular since Diana's death. She wouldn't say something like that now, but I think that incapsulates her when she was younger. And much like Kate, who is also an "if only" person despite being surrounded by those who love her unequivocally, E-2 struggled to grasp and respond to normal love and friendships. It was all duty, country, and preservation of the crown.

The only thing I can say to the lovely Ashley is just get out. This is a toxic relationship no matter how much you love the children and it's never going to change.

Kate is truly, truly a cold woman. When viewing Ashley's outburst on the RV trip afterward, she calls Ashley "over-dramatic." She's outrageous. Can't she just keep that comment to herself and just try to mend things with a nanny that the children love? So unbelievably selfish. She fits right into the industry she so wants to be a part of.

Ha, Ashley says she regrets not saying more on that trip. Good for her.

Steve admits that he too had thought about leaving but he committed to this trip. So noble. Jamie kind of considered it but didn't want to hurt any of the kids including her own so she stuck it out. That's just maturity is all.

Kate says funny enough she and Ashley have never even had a small disagreement before. That's because, doofus, someone like Ashley puts the kids first and hasn't said how she really felt all this time. That was good for the kids, but not for Ashley. It's clear her outburst had been building for years.

It's hard to tell whether they're really going to patch things up or not but Ashley said they did have small talk conversations a few times since and Kate has said she is welcome anytime. Well Kate isn't about to let a lackey go just like that no matter how big the fight was.

Benevolent Kate says she still loves Ashley, Ashley can do no wrong, and it's up to Ashley whether she would like to keep on loving them in return or not. It's unbelievable how insane Kate is. Why can't she understand this has nothing to do with Ashley's love for the children, and everything to do with a young woman finally finding her voice and developing her own personal boundaries? Ashley's maybe 23, 24 here, I don't know. Point being she's around the age where a young person is really delving deep into their feelings and getting to know who they are and what they really want out of relationships even platonic ones. This is the age where you might decide to leave an old friend from high school behind because they've become an alcoholic, finally estrange a parent who is cruel and abusive, and around the time when many people say they had their first "real" relationship with a boyfriend or girlfriend. But love is not something you can just shut off like a faucet. Even if Ashley decides she can no longer be around the family, I can promise you she will always love the children. When love becomes too much to bear because either the person you love or someone around who you love is making you miserable, everyone must eventually make a tough choice.

That wonderful University of Phoenix ad plays again. "What if I swore I'd succeed so you could wake up one day with the choice to be anything you wanted?" Bawling! Bet that hard-working grandma never spent one second wallowing about some sexist pig in the office and posting trite "#Metoo"'s on instagram, and instead just told him to buzz off and then got on with it.

At the time they interviewed the kids for this last episode, no one knew this show was ever coming back. An off camera producer asks some of the sextuplets how they feel about the show ending. The kids look confused by this question. They blurt out canned answers like it's sad, but tellingly, are unable to articulate what about this that is so sad. In fact Alexis says she's sad because she's sad. Wow, the kid doesn't understand this, like, at all! I think they are either so used to this show they don't even realize what it means for it to be over, or if they do this means really nothing to them. But I don't believe they truly feel sad about this, so this idea the show must carry on because the kids need it, as Kate has suggested, is nonsense.

Kate says they owed viewers a last episode that tied everything up. I don't know what that means, tying up your real life as if there's loose plot lines that still need to be resolved like it's the The Walking Dead. But they don't owe the creepy fans anything, and that's step one of her problem.

Kate actually doesn't look sad to me either, even though she says she is. I can literally see the creaky ole botoxed wheels turning, I think she has something in mind that will bring in lots of money after this is over. Most likely a spinoff all about her, maybe a stint as a host on a talk show, some kind of wildly successful product line. She did try things like this after the show was cancelled and absolutely nothing panned out, but point being I think she thought at the time this was the start of her next even better career where she can finally ditch these kids. I swear to God, there is a glimmer of excitement in her eyes she can finally move on to other things.

Weird spa music is playing in the background. I want someone to crack my shoulders!

They show a little bit of Jon and Kate recording the opening segment from the original show, which I actually find rather interesting, because if anything it shows that they are doing what looks like dozens of takes. Jen is there, being a very patient and supportive producer. When they let us in to little behind the scenes moments like this, it becomes all the clearer how heavily produced this show was no matter how much Kate has tried to deny it. It is no wonder a boy with special needs could not thrive to his fullest potential under such conditions.

Kate gives yet another explanation for why they're on T.V. and I swear I've never heard this one before. They owe it to the little old grandmas who sent them 10 bucks here and there. Kate needs to let them know they're doing okay. Huh? Who old ladies what? And why can't you pick up the phone and call your supporters and let them know how you're doing, or get everyone's addresses and send a stupid Christmas letter update every year with a photo? How do you even know these old ladies have cable? I wonder if she's updated the little old grandmas on Collin. He's not doing well, ladies.

Oh, burn, Jamie says the person she met at Reading hospital (I didn't know they met at Reading hospital, was that where the multiples support group was?) was kinder and gentler. Now Kate is all about TV, how skinny she is and what she's wearing. I really can't believe Jamie is saying this! This is the juicy shit you say on secret video tapes to your biographer not to be played for forty years. What's next, Jamie hates Martin Luther King, too? Jamie must have been really upset about the RV trip to just blurt all this out like this. Wow.

Kate says about a million times there's no going back from this. Oh, that's just silly. Americans are the most fickle audiences ever and with rare exception, quickly forget about shows they watched and has-been celebs they were fans of. Try it. Name a T.V. show that was cancelled two years ago and two of its stars. Bet you have to think long and hard, because viewers just forget that stuff and move on to the next show.

A bunch of creepy footage of paparazzi.

I don't remember this story at all, Kate says they did a T.V. spot and a man was hanging around them and putting the kids in his lap. What?! Who was this creep, how did this happen, and why didn't they call security or even the police? Surely even small TV stations have at least one security guard. And shouldn't this have been a huge, huge red flag to you this industry is very dangerous for children? So many questions, no logical answers. After that Kate knew she needed a booby-guard.

Lol, I love when these talking heads unintentionally insult Kate. Steve says he quickly realized after booby-guarding for Kate there was some notoriety here. Heh.

Jon was always ready to quit the show, says Kate. I think that is a pretty big revelation, because a lot of fans have implied that he up and quit just to spite Kate during the divorce. In fact, Kate has unintentionally admitted, quitting had been brewing for him and was no sudden matter or bore any connection to trying to slam her in the divorce.

What's an episode without Kate getting a chance to slam her parents again? Kate rarely if ever left the state growing up and she wanted something different for her kids. Wouldn't you remember whether you left the state or not growing up? And boo-freaking hoo you never went anywhere. It's not like Pennsylvania is 100 square miles. It's a huge beautiful state, with endless things to see and do. You could spend a decade there and never even get close to seeing everything. Also, parents do not owe children trips out of the state. The bigger question is did her parents do the best they could with what they had? Did they do their best to teach their children good values? Did they enrich their minds with good schooling, plenty of books and music? Did they teach and show them love?

Her dad is or was a pastor. No matter what your beliefs are, religious leaders are usually a noble profession and most are very good men and women who often do a whole lot of schooling to not get paid very much. I've never heard one ounce of gratitude for the role he has played in her community. If her dad is like most pastors, he's probably sat up with a family for 18 hours while their toddler gets heart surgery, held the hand of a grandmother dying of cancer and read her scripture, coordinated help for a family who lost everything in a house fire. You're a first responder to the spiritual side of people, and on call all day and night. Nothing, nothing at all ever from Kate about admiration for this?

I think her parents just popped a lemon with this one, because from the bits and pieces we've seen of some of her other siblings, they seem like decent people. I highly doubt her parents were sitting on a pile of money refusing to spend it on the trip Kate wanted to Florida out of spite. Kate is lucky she had a roof over her head, a full belly, great schools and sports, the best medical care around, good friends and a nice safe small town to grow up in. Some families would kill for such a cookie-cutter place to grow up. What an ungrateful waste of space.

Kate said she thought of the kids twenty years from now and what they would think of her decisions, and that influences her choices. How dare she speak for what her kids will think about their lives 20 years from now and how dare she assume her 30-year-old children will be just fine with her decisions just because she thought of what they would think in advance. And how convenient for her that she insists the decisions she makes just happen to be the ones a 30-year-old Gosselin kid would fully support, given that there is no 30-year-old kid yet to consult. What a nut job! It's really not her place to speculate how the children will feel and it's insulting. And if you're paying attention, the narrative has changed again. The show was supposed to be for the little old ladies. Now I think she's realized that answer is stupid, and so she's moved the goal posts to say that if she doesn't do the show her kids will have a piddly growing up existence like she did and because she resents it she's sure they would too. What an assumer and an ass-hat. She needs to read Christopher Robin Milne's books about being haplessly thrust into fame when he was in grade school. All he wanted, all he wanted in the whole world, is to just be a normal boy no kid knows, and get his parents back, his toys back, and his damn woods back. One could just as easily assume a Gosselin kid might grow up and all they want in the world was to have a normal childhood to look back on. Why not assume that just as easily?

Kate says the show has been a great opportunity to "travel" the kids. Travel them? How about, it was a great opportunity for the kids to travel? Awkward phrasing, she makes it sound like the kids are objects, which she's done on several occasions, so this is not a fluke.

Point being, no one knows how these kids will eventually feel about their childhoods, not us, not even their mother. So then why risk it? Why not just give them a normal childhood so you'll never have to worry that they might not eventually like their extremely abnormal one? Selfishness and greed on her part is the answer to this rhetorical question. The only sad thing is she can't admit she exploited the kids for her not for them, and that the grown children may have the biggest problem with of all.

Kate pats herself on the back for about five minutes about how she did it all by her lonesome when the kids were little, again leaving out Jon and the helpers.

People told her they would have liked to just stand at their window and look in. What creepy person said this and was her name Gladys?

One of the few things Kate says that is correct is that over time viewers fell in love with the kids. I think that's true for most fans and non-fans alike. We had some buy in with these kids, we like them even though they have faults, some more than others, and the faults they do have we understand are directly related to an exploited childhood and terrible parenting and therefore forgivable. So, she understands viewers genuinely have a stake here. But doesn't seem to understand much else. The fact that Collin is just gone, poof, for so long, is truly upsetting to fans and non-fans alike, and that's directly related to the years viewers spent watching him grow up and giving a tiny piece of the T.V. portion of our hearts to him. The little bones she throws out there about him are toying, manipulative behavior, like a cat with a mouse, and that's really screwed up.

Kate says she and Jon had vastly different views on how they see the world, which is why the show was interesting. That's true. Here's a little hint, if you and your boyfriend or fiance can't agree on anything, your marriage is very, very unlikely to work. Frankly that goes for Jon too. He should have called this off or spent longer dating her before putting a ring on it. He was only 22, he could have waited another decade to make sure this was right. Now he's paying. Makes for good T.V., but a bad marriage.

Steve says he thinks couples would watch this show and say, thank God I'm not as useless as that. Implying Jon?? Useless? Oh my God! What a jerkwad! Was he paying attention at all when he watched these episodes? Jon did it all including working and caring for the kids and Kate accepted coffee delivered to her bedside when she woke up, then put the kids behind bars all day and gave orders and freaked out about $10 off coupons. No, couples were saying thank God we respect and appreciate each other like she doesn't and are good to our children.

Kate admits after a producer comes up with the idea that maybe the kids like watching the old episodes to see her and Jon together. Well, that's a rather sad though probably true thought and never anything Kate would have come to on her own because she has no feelings.

Apparently Kate's kids are like no other kids in the world and can remember all these things they did as if they were 10, not toddlers, says Kate. Well, we've since learned that's a load of malarky. In the recent trivia episode the kids really struggled to remember much about the show at all. So doing this for the trips was mostly pointless for them. What else ya got?

Lol, Kate is blaming her totally unacceptable behavior on editing. She also blames her nastiness on, get a load of this, the kids asking too many questions of her. She actually says this. She's too much. Poor Kate, no other mother has ever had to deal with why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why. Well maybe they have, but I bet you not times six! So there!

Mady is parroting Kate's reasons for what she liked the most about the show. We never had time to make our own home videos, Mady echoes. Well, we know that is malarky too, since at Mady's 16th birthday, Kate herself admitted that she was filming every day once the twins were born, and even put together a very long compilation for their birthday. I'm sure there was less time for that once 6 babies were here, but we still saw home videos of them she or Jon took, and surely just whipping out a little camcorder and taping a few moments is far less time consuming than organizing the taping over several days with an entire camera crew. Come on!

She talks about the kids' favorite things and Collin's is the chickens. Aw. She got rid of that little boy and got rid of his favorite things next. Wth, lady!

Alexis has absolutely the most darling Anna Wintour haircut. I never remember seeing that before or since but it's nice to see her have some individually for once.

She's defending cupcake gate again. Man, that incident really bothers her the most of all huh? She says just the other day some of the kids didn't get their cupcakes. That is a stubborn and defensive thing to say. She is twelve.

Kate is still boo-hooing about a divorce that even in this episode was a long time ago. She works up some tearless tears. She says she couldn't make Jon want to be there. Um, it's not that Jon doesn't want to be "there." Jon just doesn't want to be with you, doofus, and since you're always "there" that becomes a problem now doesn't it. And wait a second, didn't she file for divorce? Lol!

Kate is in agreeance over the divorce. Gaa, that word. Well that's good to know, because she was the one who filed.

Kate is defending herself about the divorce again saying they had to do it in public and she did so tastefully and they would have gotten divorced show or not blah blah. There was absolutely nothing tasteful about her embarrassing purseful of bills pity tour and all the below-the-belt comments she made about Jon in various venues. It was pathetic and self-serving. It was basically like Grey Gardens tasteful.

That tough as nails grandmother commercial is back again! I really remain perpetually in awe of the Greatest Generation and what they endured in the name of freedom, especially those who were kids and endured months of bombings straight or in the alternative were sent up north to live with total strangers. I fear we are no longer honoring their sacrifices and have become far too tolerant of the crap they sought to end once and for all, and my God are our feelings ever hurt just like that. I really recommend the Imperial War Museum if you are ever in London. It's comprehensive, incredibly moving, and free. For kids who don't know much about civilian life during WW2, I hope this commercial causes them to ask their parents, what was that bombing about when she was a kid?

Ashley saw the divorce coming a mile away but was in denial, like it was her own parents. Ashley, bless you, but a blind and deaf centipede could see this divorce coming.

I hate when people do what Kate does when telling a story and ask themselves questions and then answer them themselves immediately after. Was I proud of that no? Did I love that? No. Would I like a grilled cheese for lunch? You bet.

Annoying.

The editors are being mean here. When Kate remarks she and Jon have different parenting ideas, they show Jon texting on his phone while Hannah is trying to ask him something. Maybe it was an important text, or something to do with the kids or work. Or even if it wasn't you don't have to leap to attention every time your kid demands something of you, as long as there's a balance. It's fine kids know there are other things going on for their parents besides their spoiled children. How about tell the kid, I just need 30 more seconds to finish up this text I was writing before you started talking to me and then we will talk, okay baby? It's good for them to learn to wait.

Like no parent has ever been on their phone before while their kid is talking to them, including Kate herself. Stop it. In later years, the editors were far more fair to Jon and could be mean to Kate. It's clear they've come around.

There's a whole lot of rambling and fluff here about the divorce, like it just happened. Keep in mind, even in this episode it was three years ago. Yeesh.

The vow renewal episode was not a hoax, Kate insists. A hoax? That's a strong word. I think we just said they knew then they were separating even while taking that free trip, that's all. What's next the vow renewal is going to show up on snopes.com? Eh, I'll call this rumor MOSTLY TRUE.

Kate can't bring herself to say she does not regret the marriage because of the kids she got out of it even though the statement was spoon-fed to her to say. She hates Jon more than she loves her kids.

Did Kate actually just say Jon was there for the family and did anything she asked of him to do. Wha-what! A moment of clarity. Good, glad she said that. Now go tell your lackey Steve and the idiot sheeple to stop re-writing history.

In a flashback, Kate and Jon have a light-hearted laugh over some of the kids insisting they are more Korean than others. I feel like this conversation would be extremely offensive to snowflakes in 2017. They would probably start a hashtag campaign, or want somebody fired.

Oh lovely, the kids nickname that crew member who never showers "Stinky." That is hilarious to a kid, but should be horrifying to a parent. He probably smells like pot, too. That's crew members, folks.

Kate admits there is only one original member of the crew left. Well, that's not surprising at all. Crews come and go. Better or more interesting projects come along, or promotions, or career changes. The idea the children should be encouraged to have such real bonds with such a transient lot is very concerning.

Hm, um um I guess Kate says she will have to get a job now. Uhhh ya think? Go to work, you able bodied woman. Good Lord. Lol, the future holds T.V. and media for me, says Kate. She's so arrogant. You have to get somebody to put you on T.V. first. Oh and um thank you to the cheerleaders, says Kate. Who? Is she talking about the fans, the helpers, both? Could she be a little bit more specific when thanking people?? Why is Kate fake crying? She's not sad at all. She clearly thinks she's winning an Emmy for whatever her next project is.

Without the show Mady says she would have to sit at home and stare at the walls. I'm sure that's the lie her mother tells her. She'll resent this coaching someday. I wonder when Mady realized that not having a T.V. show does not mean a very full and enriching life is cut off from you. And with a little effort a parent can provide endless fun and enrichment that is either cheap or free. A middle class or even poor child can have a good and happy life and the idea that Kate keeps implying that the only path to happiness is to do what she did is nothing but insulting.

This is a long recap. Thanks for bearing with me. It was a full 42 minute episode unfortunately, but it was full of rather notable comments and revelations that just couldn't be glossed over. When Kate is allowed to just run her mouth, recapable stuff always seems to diarrhea out.

Seriously, she's a slob and when the house is no longer a set, she's let it go to pot (as my mom used to say!).

====

After they moved into the Mcmansion, during the couch interview session, Jon and Kate both said the house was absolutely "filthy". Then we saw a clip of Kate freaking out about the dust buildup under a freezer the previous owners had left in the basement. I'd like to see the dust and dog hair gathered under some of the appliances in that house now. German Shepherds are beautiful dogs but they are notorious for shedding. With three of them in the house, that place must be covered in dog hair. I can't see Kate taking the time to brush them on a daily basis.

They should just do updates when one of them ISN'T pregnant. That should cut down on press releases.

....and the sky is still blue on a sunny day. When will people finally decide they're over watching these people marry and breed? It's the same storyline over and over again.

I had an interesting conversation with a friend about the Kardashians--why are they still going strong after more than a decade? What I realized from the conversation is that each member of the family is a well developed individual character as well as being part of the family. I think that's why K+8 has struggled so much. Everything revolves around Kate. None of the kids are really developed as individual characters (except, so some extent, Mady). What do we really know about the other kids? Hannah is a leader (we know that because Kate says so) and gets stress headaches--Kate said so. Alexis is wild--Kate said so. Joel is the perfect child--Kate said so. But as far as the kids themselves--their hopes, their dreams, their plans for the future, their fears, their thoughts and opinions--we don't know any of that. Neither, apparently, does Kate. I recall reading from recaps that one child said Kate doesn't know her favorite food or favorite color, Kate had to ask one of the boys if he even liked basketball. The kids aren't seen going anywhere or doing anything without Kate--not even space camp which should not have included her. The only time you hear from them without her is in their group couch interviews, answering scripted questions.

I'm not saying that TLC should force the kids to share so much of themselves with viewers. They should have their privacy, and it's a shame that it has been taken from them due to corporate (and their mother's) greed. But I do think the biggest flaw in the show is that everything is centered around Kate to such a degree. If you don't like Kate, then you'll never like the show because there is nothing there that isn't all about Kate.

Good post, Layla, I agree- once Leah said the show should be called Kate Plus Kate since she does everything and excludes the kids or barges into things. The twins were angry when Kate tried to share a private joke they had with their friend Marley, for example. She has to be first to try things or play games, like the pumpkin smashing or that gaga ball game at the gym place. The kids just follow behind.

I don’t remember that but when I bought a house it was only required that the prior owners turn it over “broom swept clean.” Unless you put it in a contract about further cleaning, any deep cleaning was up to the new owners. It’s not like an apartment where it’s expected to be spic and span. You’re buying as is usually. Further, you can do a final walk through and should point out any thing you’re not satisfied with then. Any disputes after you take possession might still be able to be worked out with the sellers if you just stop whining and call your realtor. Bottom line it was uncouth to use what amounted to a very minor dispute about the home’s condition as fodder for an episode. But I don’t get the sense they thought or cared much about how others might feel when they put these episodes together.

I just read that a child actor, Jon Paul Steuer (he was in Star Trek The Next Generation and the sitcom Grace Under Fire) just died at age 33. There wasn't a cause of death listed, but there was one quote from him (about working on Grace Under Fire) that really jumped out at me. He said, "That show brought a lot of press and attention around me and my personal life. I was right on the cusp of puberty, going through that awkward stage. To be put under a microscope like that is kind of a bizarre addition to your life that obviously not a lot of other people can relate to".

This is from someone who lived that life. He knew what it was like to be in that fishbowl, with people starting at him, during an awkward and confusing time in his life. I'm sure if anyone asked the G kids, and really listened to their answers, they would express the same kind of sentiment. Adolescence is hard enough without all the added pressure and attention. But we won't hear from them--all anyone will hear is their mother saying that everyone is great "across the board" and everyone loves filming. That's what she said right up to the day Collin was sent away. These kids have no voice and no control. What does that do to their developing minds? It has to be embarrassing and confusing for them. I hate to say it, but it will not be a surprise if this guy committed suicide. These things happen far too often when you mess with a child's developing mind.

Layla said...

Hmmm, that quote about letting your faith be greater than your fear "jumped out" at her when she needed it most. Why did she need it most last night? Could it have anything to do with the show? Remember back in 2011, the morning the show was officially cancelled, she didn't announce it, she posted a quote to Twitter about taking a deep breath and staying calm when things don't go your way. It just struck me a being a bit coincidental. And the World's Greatest Mom trophy--we know there is a custody battle going on. Once again--coincidental? Maybe, maybe not.

I think the Doctor and his wife sued because he is well known and has a great reputation in the community. It was uncalled for and certainly not the truth and made them look bad. I wonder how long she continued scrubbing the clean refrigerator after the cameras were no longer filming her.

Maybe a local remembers if the doctor and his wife took any action, or were just disgusted with the way they were portrayed by Kate and were concerned about how it would affect his reputation and practice.
Remember, Kate made a HUGE stink about how filthy the fridge was and I recall her saying there was evidence of rodents in the kitchen when she got her free new kitchen/luxury beach vacation.
Airing that would not have made me happy if I was the previous owner.

I think that "filthy" fridge was there as long as it took to film that episode and then was outta there. It was replaced when she got her kitchen remodel, no? Which was shortly after move-in? It was probably turned over to professional "sanitizers," removed to the basement, and never heard from again.

Ahhh, those were the days, K8ie, n'est-ce pas?

That episode was a total set-up. She didn't just show up to do a little cleaning and somehow happened to have Q-Tips with her. Who brings Q-Tips to clean a house? It was all orchestrated in advance to impress the viewers with Kate's supposedly high standards for cleanliness. I feel sorry for the doctor and his wife. I do recall hearing that they took some kind of legal action, and that a cleaning crew had been to the house when they moved out. I don't remember any specifics, but Kate and TLC backed off really fast.

The kids aren't seen going anywhere or doing anything without Kate--not even space camp which should not have included her. The only time you hear from them without her is in their group couch interviews, answering scripted questions.

((((((((((((

But we don't see everything. I think she's caught between a rock and a hard place here. IF everything is filmed, the kids have no privacy. If there are things in their lives that aren't shown, then it's assumed it never happens, such as sports, going away with friends, etc.. Kind of damned if it's filmed, damned if it isn't.

AuntieAnn said...

Meanwhile, back at the house they moved out of, Kate left piles of crap and garbage and thought she was pretty funny in doing so. After all, she got her big house so what did she care.

Seems to me the realtors were riding their ass to get back there and clean it up and ready for resale. IIRC it took a long time for that to get accomplished, too.

The side streets and parking lots are now skating rinks. Heat wave next week though! I can't believe your son had to go to work. I would agree with that if she NEVER showed the kids. Then she would be damned either way.

But she does show the kids. Always at home. Always puttering around the house. Never seemingly engaged in any normal kid activities.

If you're going to show the kids, show them being kids. Show them out in the world. Every.other.celebrity who has decided to show their kids does so. She stands out, in a very bizarre way.

She is not damned if she does or doesn't. Showing the kids actually being kids out and about would be immensely reassuring, just as the occasional times when photos have leaked of Jon with the kids doing normal things, it was reassuring.

What was so revealing about that marathon fridge cleaning session was that it clearly showed the emotional disconnect between TFW and her kids. There were 8 children -- 6 quite young -- moving in to a new home, and their needs and feelings were not even on their mother's radar.
She even barked to one of the twins to help one of the tups wipe his behind in the bathroom. Sure doesn't sound like the Best Mom in the World to me.

Layla said...

I just can't understand why she has to butt in on all the activities that are designed for the kids. Gaga Ball should have been the kids, not the mother against the kids. Pumpkin throwing--why was she a part of that? She should not have been included in Space Camp. All the things the kids have enjoyed, but then she had to butt in and shriek and cry and pitch a fit, like skiing, tubing, the tower jump, parasailing, etc, etc, etc. If she's so afraid and has to spend so muh time crying and saying she doesn't want to do it--why not just step aside and let the kids do it, since they enjoy it? Does TLC force her to participate, thinking viewers like watching her melt down? If so, they're wrong. Or does she insist upon being included so that she's the center of attention and not the kids? That has bitten her in the a$$, and will continue to do so because she refuses to allow the kids to become interesting characters on their own. Every viewer has to be invested in her or they won't enjoy the show. How long did she think that would last? It's her fault (and the fault of her enormous ego) that the show has been such a failure.

All This Is That said...

But she does show the kids. Always at home. Always puttering around the house. Never seemingly engaged in any normal kid activities.

I would agree, except that they are shown away from home. Of course, this is when they are filmed. They've been filmed in multiple locations away from home.

Where should they be shown in her IG photos? Bowling? At the movies? Sports events? If Kate isn't with them then, who takes the photos? Friends or parents of friends? Do other parents really want to be bothered taking pictures of the Gosselins to use on her IG? If Kate is there, then she'd be criticized for always being with them. It could be that if they get away without her, doing what normal kids do, the last thing in the world they want is to be photographed for internet chatter.

I don't know...just thinking.

Hi everyone. A belated Happy New Year. I hope everyone is doing well and that 2018 is a happy and healthy one.

As far as TFW's Instagram photos and any activities, or lack of activities, it's not just about the kids, but about TFW's extremely boring and mundane life. I know it's been discussed here before, but I am still amazed at how pathetically boring and isolated her life is. She seems to go nowhere other than the bus stop, grocery shopping and Target. I've never actually seen someone have SO little going on in their lives, especially parents. She's practically a shut-in. It's like we always said, she only went places and the kids only had outings because TLC planned it and paid for it, and paid her to do it. I look at her lonely, boring, isolated life and I almost feel sorry for her. When all eight kids are gone it will obviously be even worse. I can't even imagine how isolated and alone she'll be then.

Forget the kids, if she herself made a tiny bit of effort to post a variety of interesting and diverse shots from out and about, away from the house, she would see her Instagram followers increase twofold. There are celebs of equal has-been status to her that have a decent following on instagram because they keep it fresh, interesting, and diverse. A vacation here, a party there, an interesting purchase here, a reunion with an old friend there, a joke or ironic post mixed in sparsely if you prefer with hubby, dogs and kids. Take the current weather, how about a shot of how everyone is coping, as many other celebs who are in the area have posted? It doesn't have to be dire, it can be lighthearted.

It's just amazing to me how utterly terrible she is at social media, though not unexpected, as she really struggles to do ANYTHING well.

What IS being suggested? If Kate goes to local attractions that parents participate in, then she'll be criticized for always sticking her ugly mug into whatever they're doing. And where are these photos going to be posted. On IG? Then the kids privacy is being invaded and they can't even go to local events without their photos being taken and posted.

Are we hoping for the locals to spot them and post reassuring pictures on FB and IG that we can hunt down and provide links to? Again, invasion of privacy and for what reason? Because we want proof they're out doing things?

If Mady (or any others) does have a sleepover how are we to be kept abreast? What are they doing today---at the mall, hanging out with friends, at the movies? Since there's no proof (photo) we assume they're all at home sitting on Kate's bed playing board games?

No one is hoping or asking for anything. The fact of the matter is that Kate does post pics of her kids and what’s going on when there’s something worthy of posting. When she doesn’t it just makes us feel something is up.

Either the kids (or just some of them) are forbidding it, or there’s nothing interesting or fun in their lives, or Kate is holding out posting anything of interest going on with the kids in hopes for a paycheck for it.

She did post recent boring pics of some of the kids so we know she will.

There’s no way Kate is not posting pics out of concern for their privacy, or to give them a normal life.

Right. What makes Kate's IG so weird is that there's nothing-absolutely nothing-to indicate there's a healthy, normal ebb and flow of activity.
Sure, families have "movie night" or game night, but they also have a myriad of other things. When all Kate posts is pics inside her house and most of them just dogs being regular dogs, you have to wonder.
No friends? No family? Not one working jaunt anywhere?

I bring up Amy Roloff again because although she and her family still have seasons and are very busy filming at times, she is actively speaking, has friends, family, a new beau, kids are very much individuals and we can see that with our own eyes.
I don't think Kate's life has found a groove outside of filming.
She should have been prepared for this all along but it appears that she doesn't have anything going on.
Perhaps she does. If she does it makes her IG even more bizarre.

Sorry, the kids' privacy is an oxymoron. Their privacy is GONE. I don't want to see the kids doing everything off camera. I don't think anyone here does.
Simply because Kate has filmed them for over a decade-in every embarrassing way possible-it simply doesn't follow that the reason we don't see her, the kids, her and the kids doing normal stuff is because she wants to give them their privacy.

What follows is that as a result of Kate kicking their family and good, real friends to the curb so that she could film unfettered, the result is a fractured social life void of many things because it interfered with Kate's ambition.
If locals saw them out and about, I would expect that there would be postings on social media, simply because they are famous and will forever have little expectation of privacy when out in public.
You're coming from a place that assumes that the toothpaste can go back into the tube.
It. Can't.

When someone famous(ish) opens a social media account and makes it public, it's the followers that should be at the heart of things.
It seems Kate only started her social media accounts and blog in order to get something out of it, mostly freebies and staying on the D-list radar.
Blogs and social media, where people are doing it for the follows, likes, and whatnot, is a social contract of sorts.
You follow and get information, or, infotainment, to be more specific. There is an onus on the social media account holder or blog owner to update, keep it fresh, keep it intersting and MAKE IT WORHTWHILE FOR PEOPLE TO VISIT OR GIVE A DAMN.
I'm sorry, Kate fails at that, and I think it's because she's such a narc that it would never occur to her that she volunteered for this RESPONSIBILITY and OBLIGATION to her fans and followers.

I think what we're saying is that her blog and social media are all failures because there is just nothing going on.
If you want to see people begging to invade the kids' lives, look at the sheeple who comment on her IG.
Dogs, dogs, dogs and the occasional child sitting on the floor in her bedroom.

Big, new house. Young kids. That can be scary. A good mom would have said, "I know this big adventure in our new house is fun, but it can be a little scary, too. Mommy and Daddy are right here if you need us. Just knock on the door if you're scared or need a hug, ok?"

How fricking hard is that?

Instead, those kids had such looks of fear and hurt on their faces as she preened like a Queen and treated Jon and all the kids as if they were just incidental to her "mine all mine' glory.

Sandylove (#58), I agree -- the cleaning was an ideal way to not have to actually parent her children. I think TFW thought it would help reinforce the "character" she had created -- a hard-working germaphobe. And when she tries to appear super organized, she's really just showing that she's a control freak who has to have things her way 24/7. She's quite tone deaf when it comes to her image, and the things she fixates on.

That would only happen if TLC was paying for it.

Even someone who had no idea who she was would look at her Instagram and conclude, (accurately in my opinion), that this is someone who doesn't appear to have any interests at all, no hobbies, doesn't really go anywhere or do anything, doesn't socialize with friends or family - even on holidays. She really leads a strange and sad life. And she's documenting it for all to see, for some odd reason.

I know a lot of us watched and enjoyed, or didn't, that documentary, which concluded the killer was Burke. (In my view, no theory makes perfect sense, which is why it's a perfect murder)

He's suing CBS for 750 mil. Woo-ee.

Again, it's not really about posting photos of the kids. Let's leave them out of it for a minute. This is her Instagram and it's astonishing how it's documenting a rather lonely and solitary existence.

&&&

You can speculate until the cows come home about what she DOESN'T put on her social media, you can even rely on locals who claim she does actually leave that bedroom of hers now and again, but whatever this alternative narrative is, it bears no resemblance to absolutely anything else we've ever seen on social media. She's either very, very good at leading a double life, or what we see of her existence is pretty darn accurate. At the end of the day, it is very hard to hide reality from social media forever. The truth tends to come through, and after several years of this nothingness, I believe the truth is there is not much else going on for her besides her sole focus on filming again. I believe she gets up and goes for that but little else.

Layla said...

The show itself reveals a rather lonely existence, as well as her social media accounts. The write-up for the tups' 13th birthday episode said she had to call in friends to pull it off. Reading back over comments posted about the episode, those friends were almost all employees. Jamie was there, of course, but other than that there was Steve (her security guy), Ronnie (her hairdresser) and Amber and Ashley (nannies/helpers). No wonder she's so worried about filming again--it provides her with not only money and a way to fulfill her narcissistic demands for attention, it also provides her with social interaction. She's lost without it. Someday the show has to end, and I don't think she'll be able to cope with losing it. As she has said before, "The show is our life and our life is the show". I think that's very true for her.

I heard that report this morning. I can't believe that the network wasn't expecting a lawsuit. Wasn't there a disclaimer that the conclusion was only a theory, opinion and speculation? It seems to me that this came at the end of the documentary.

&&&

This is a tough one. On the one hand yes I believe they did say this is just their theory. On the other hand, the people who presented the theory were very adamant about it, discounting everything else, and had the credentials to back it up. I believe many people now believe Burke did it because of their insistence. They also got to it in a very round about way, inventing scenarios where JonBenet came downstairs where Burke was eating pineapple, tried to grab a piece, and he clocked her. That may have happened, that may have not. But to invent something like that based on a bowl of pineapple on the counter I think is pretty wild speculation.

I also think that sort of thing was just too much wild speculation for the judge to stop this lawsuit.

The sad fact is no theory makes sense in this case and there is not enough evidence to point to any one person even an intruder.

I also think the fact that Burke was just a little boy and now just a young man had a lot of bearing on this. Even if he did hurt his sister somehow, isn't the blame really on his parents who then sought to cover it up? He had no control over how his parents handled the situation. They could have just told the truth and Burke probably would have not even been charged and instead given therapy. That's not Burke's fault they didn't.

Finally, I believe Burke to be autistic, based on his interviews. That's neither here nor there, I'm just saying.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I will say though the way they dissected that letter piece by piece bringing various experts in has me pretty much convinced the parents wrote it. WHY they wrote it remains unanswered. John Ramsey won't tell the truth on his deathbed because there's still his son to protect.

I’m sure your dog loved everything. That’s the great thing about dogs - they just want your love and attention and don’t care what you do for a living or how much money you have. I hope 2018 is a great year for you. Keep being creative and loving your baby.

I watched the episodes on Discovery Family yesterday ( I know, I’m a glutton for punishment. But I never watched the show until the end). It was very sad. In the beginning they were a cute team but Jon did everything and she just made excuses. She was not organized, just controlling. You can already see the signs of what is to come, but there was a lot of laughing and ribbing in the beginning - Kate plus 8 is all about complaining how hard she has it. Admin is absolutely right - the show needed two people bouncing off each other to be interesting. Jon loved his kids but he was way in over his head with Kate and did anything to keep her happy.

And about her Instagram looking empty and lonely, I agree completely. She is boring and one-dimensional and her Instagram reflects that. She is so isolated (by her own choice) and lives in the past. And the best mommy in the world doesn’t need constant reassurance from her kids. It’s pathetic.

Sorry for the long-windedness.

I just spent about ten minutes looking at her Instagram, which she started on 7/5/16, (with a photo of her usual, boring Fourth of July cake, of course).

In an eighteen month period from 7/5/16 through yesterday 1/6/18, she's posted 252 times. Of those 252 posts, only 14 were posts with photos taken outside their house or off their property, (not counting about a dozen pics taken in the car, usually of dogs).

In those 14 posts of pics take outside their house or off their property, there are a total of 17 pics. That's because one post, the recent shopping for a Christmas tree post, had 4 pics.

Of note is the fact that of those 14 posts of pics taken outside their house or off their property, only 7 were on occasions that were NOT episodes . The other 7 posts were all pics from an episode that was airing that evening or two pics she did from the TLC Block Party back in July 2016.

Also, on those 7 occasions when she posted something from outside their house or off their property the pics were all from last year:

3/29/17 - TFW at a restaurant on her birthday the day before
7/17/17 - kids kayaking on vacation
7/21/17 - TFW and a dog they met at lunch on vacation
7/23/17 - three of the kids at a restaurant
10/31/17 - pic of the younger kids trick or treating
12/3/17 - a post with 4 pics shopping for a Christmas tree
12/24/17 - in a store picking up last minute Christmas gifts

Have I bored you all to tears yet? Her Instagram is even more boring when you scroll down the page and look at all the posts in the last year and a half. Same old, same old. Dogs, dogs, dogs, Christmas cinnamon buns, braces on/off party, same old Valentine's Day meal on heart shaped plates, a dog's birthday cake, etc. Yawwwwnnnnnnn......

Her Instagram page feels cold and lacking any real soul, just like her.

Doesn't Milo have social media accounts? Is she active on anything?

I think the show could have kept going strong if Jon didn't throw in the towel, leave and try to stop filming.
Kate never forgave Jon for that.
Jon was integral to the show and without him, there's no tension/resolution. Plus, Jon had a presence on the show- a real relatable quality that Kate utterly lacks because she's so void of inner beauty.
The kids are growing up and aren't shown in an interesting or flattering light. They are there for things to happen to, like vacations and other free shit. They don't come across as actively doing anything in particular.
I was watching an interview with the actor Liev Schriber. He and Naomi Watts were a couple for over a decade and have 2 children. They're no longer together. Schriber said it's so important to co-parent and have a good relationship with your ex-for the sake of the kids. He said he loves to encourage his kids to talk about their mother when they're with him. He said their eyes light up and they get so excited.
The fact that Schriber's kids love their mother brings him joy.
Imagine that.
Then, contrast it to what brings Kate joy-her children's destroyed relationship with Jon. She was 'proud" of Mady for speaking so horribly about her father to People magazine.
So,if any of you are feeling sorry for Kate and her Gray Gardens existence...don't.
She wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire.

Eh, you could be right about the show going on, but even that gets old after a while. It had a shelf life, and I think that even with Jon, viewers would have left and moved on to something else. I mean, how much traveling and bickering can you do before it becomes same old, same old?

Layla said...

I think Jon would have been a necessary buffer between Kate and the kids. Once the show was just Kate Plus 8, her on-air hysterics and meltdowns have seemed to be increasing. One thing I was told by someone who watched the last (3-episode) run was that she seemed almost on the verge of some kind of breakdown. I don't remember her being that bad when Jon was there. Now she has nobody to take the brunt of her frustration--except, alarmingly, the kids. I wonder if that's one of the reasons TLC backed off on filming. She was getting too close to really losing it (and we don't know what ended up on the cutting room floor), and they were concerned for her mental stability. Add to that the crappy ratings and the disappearance of Collin, and it's nothing but a mess. Who wants to be associated with that?

I wonder if TLC thought at some point about re-branding the show. Once Jon was gone it went from J&K+8 to just Kate Plus 8. What about when there was no longer 8? It seems like false advertising to say there's 8 when there's only 7. Then again, renaming it would have drawn even more attention to Collin's predicament, and they didn't need that. It was time to just let the show go.

Why bother having an Instagram account if you only post pics from something outside of your house just seven times in one year and post tons of the same old stuff over and over again? There's absolutely nothing interesting in any of the posts to draw people in or gain followers

Looking at her Instagran page, and my list in Post #80 above, 2017 consisted of one restaurant birthday dinner in March, a vacation in July, and shopping for a Christmas tree and last minute gifts in December. Whoopee, how exciting. I know people in their eighties and nineties who, if they had Instagram pages, they would be far more interesting and show much more active, involved and fulfilling lives.

And yet she's gained almost 50K followers in the nearly 6 months since her 3-episode "season" ended in July. She must be on the 100K-per-year follower purchase plan, because she sure as hell has done nothing to warrant an increase of +/-1,800 followers a week over that period. And it's been a very steady climb, so there's no mistaking that her IG "popularity" is being bought.

Kate's always been mediocre, and as Seinfeld said, "not that there's anything wrong with that". It's just with Kate, she really believed her poo no longer wafted odiously, if you get my drift.
Like many a D-list fauxlebrity, Kate's sudden and meteoric rise to the top of the tabloid heap came with a lot of attention, money and enablers/"yes" people.
Other than Kate's amazing uterus and a team of talented and dedicated medical professionals, all of which brought 6 kids into the world at one time, Kate's rather unremarkable.
After all this time and all of that money, Kate's still the same person she's always been. No amount of window dressing or plastic surgery has made her a better person.
The rest of us mediocres at least strive to better ourselves with the resources we have. Kate? Not so much.
The only difference with Kate is that for a time, she wore better shoes.

Organic, schmorganic.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Penn State has settled a lawsuit by a man who claimed former university assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky molested him in a car in 2007, when the man was about 14 years old.

The settlement notice was posted Monday on the Philadelphia courts website and confirmed by a lawyer for the plaintiff, called John Doe in case documents.

The case had been scheduled for trial in late February, but late last month the parties told the judge they no longer needed Sandusky to be brought to Philadelphia from the state prison where he is serving a lengthy sentence.

Sandusky's wife, Dottie, said Tuesday he denies the man's allegations of wrongdoing, but does remember taking the boy to visit a coach at Bucknell University and then to dinner.

A Penn State spokeswoman said there is only one pending civil case left related to Sandusky abuse allegations, a Philadelphia lawsuit filed under the name Jack Doe. She declined to comment on the John Doe case being settled.

The university has paid more than $109 million to settle Sandusky abuse claims by at least 35 people.

She's not--she is still very thick, although much smaller than before. She couldn't squeeze into a pair of jeans in that size. She only wore things that were made of stretchy material, which is not the same. Anyhoo, I think it's very telling that Mama June--as gross as she is--can still pull in a million-plus viewers and Kate cannot. If Kate can't keep up with someone like Mama June, then I think it's time to throw in the towel and look for a real career. Nobody wants to watch her.

She's probably a size 4 in a designer dress that labels it a size 4 just to make it appear that the wearer is that size, to feel good to be able to say "I wear a size 4." It's deceptive. In the real world with real clothing cut for real people, there's no way that she's a size 4. Maybe a size 4, and they omitted the number 1.
She's still ugly.

TLC axed the whole Honey Boo Boo clan years ago (although I saw somewhere that TLC aired some kind of lost episodes thing last year). Mama June got a new show on WE where she lost a lot of weight, and that show is in its second season. That's got to be embarrassing for Kate--after TLC kicked her to the curb in 2011, she spent almost 3 years trying to get a new show--and nobody wanted her. She ended up crawling back to TLC. Mama June succeeded where Kate failed.

Sad But True - You’re absolutely correct, her dog is not a “sable”. Here is the breed color description: Color and Markings
The King Shepherd Dog varies in color, and many colors are permissible. Strong rich colors are preferred. Colors are as follows: Sable (a brown/red with black markings or a tan/cream with black markings); bi-colored (predominantly black with red, tan or cream); black saddle with red, tan, gold or cream, and solid black. Markings: Small areas of white, the smaller the better, are permissible on the chest, toes, tail. Serious Faults: Pale, washed-out colors, i.e. black and grey and black and silver; blues or livers. Disqualification: A predominantly or solid white dog must be disqualified.

http://www.americankingshepherdclubinc.com/Standard.html

Based on the breed standards (above), although she may have a little sable in her saddle and ears, I really don’t think NookiePookie’s coloring could be classified as sable.

Wow, did she CHANGE her comment? Who TF is "we"? I doubt it's her kids---perhaps Mady, but I'm sure it's no more than that. Very strange. I'm sensing an edge of desperation there this evening. :)

kateplusmy8@SOON I hope:)
*******************
That's par for the course lately. Back in July, when the mini-season ended, she was tweeting, "hope to see you soon", and then when someone asked why the season was so short and if there would be a new season premier in the fall, she answered, "Don't know and I hope!". So it doesn't look like anything has changed as far as the status of the show. I don't think she knows. But the fans' requests for information are increasing, and I think she realized she had to give them something, so she gave them a pretty generic response.

I really think TLC is trying to cut ties with her as much as possible. She became completely dependent on them for income, and that's wrong--especially since her ratings weren't high. All the other TLC "talent" has some other form of income, but she quit everything else and just relied on them. She knows the show's ratings have been crappy for years now, so it was reckless (and stupid) of her to rely on the show to continue. What are they going to do, film a failing show forever just because she was an idiot and refused to give herself any other options? That's her problem, not theirs.

If the failing ratings wasn't enough of a clue to her that her time on reality TV was coming to an end, there was that huge hint TLC has been giving her in the form of lack of promotion. I have never seen them (or any other network) simply refuse to promote their own show. But they did that with hers. If they wanted to keep the show, or work to make it more successful, they would have advertised it. They didn't, at least for the last 2 seasons or so. That was deliberate--it's not like everyone forgot they had this show in their lineup. She still didn't get the hint.

Will there be updates eventually? Yes, I believe so. Will they continue to film long seasons every year to provide her with an income? No, I don't think they will. And I think they decided they were done a long, long time ago.

Layla said...

Of course she changed the comment. She realized that she had missed an opportunity to remind the world that her kids just love love love filming and can't wait for their crew daddies to come back. Sorry, Kate, but the jig is up. It's obvious by now that some of the kids don't want to film. Nobody believes Kate's party lines any more.

I had to have his children because he's practically perfect in every way😍.... no breeder involved... all of his puppies from his ONE LITTER have approved homes and forever families #Responsible

Clueless again. You don't breed dogs intentionally because all those pups of Shoka's displaced dogs who don't have homes and will be put the death. Kate never ceases to see beyond her own nose.
It's fine to say that you don't want some rescue mutt, but please, don't sell this "responsible" drivel.

"SOON I hope" should be what Kate wants for her son's return home, not filming FFS!

I don't hold June in higher esteem than Kate. They are terrible each in their own right.
June has exploited her children, raised them on unhealthy foods and watched as they turned obese before they turned double digits.
June has the same drive for the spotlight and fame that Kate has. She'll do anything to stay in the spotlight.
Before someone tapped her for the weight loss angle show, June was doing the stripper bar circuit and selling her lesbian persona.

VVVVery unhealthy so much so that as others have pointed out even the most heinous of other reality stars usually have other sources of income going along so they don't HAVE to film the kids if they don't need to. She's got nothing.

I wonder what she thinks her life will be like in say ten years when the kids are all gone. No more TLC, no job, no interests or hobbies, no family or friends in her life. Does she plan on staying all alone in that big house that will just suck up whatever savings she has left? Her life is kind of pathetic now.... just picture it in ten years or so.

Kate will be sure to ensnare the loyalty of a couple kids. A couple will be estranged.
Her family might take pity upon her and reach out to Kate in her dotage.
Hopefully, she won't be married and no man will have to endure her disdain and criticism like Jon did.

I don't think he's around any longer other than filming, and that seems done.

Layla said...

A fan posted in IG, "Did you guys film yet?", to which Barb Gilmer responded, "Maybe using last year's footage that was never seen?". Barb must be thinking that a full season (8+ episodes) was filmed, but only 3 were shown. Nobody has heard anything about filming sightings or trips, so it's unlikely that there has been filming going on for quite awhile. The best they can hope for, if they want more episodes anytime soon, is that there are unaired ones from before. I doubt that those episodes exist. If they did, then why weren't they shown with the rest of them? But Kate has said that she doesn't choose the airing schedule (not filming, but airing schedule) so maybe there are more ready to go. Still doesn't make any sense for TLC to wait so long to air them (if there are any).

Former Lurker said...

I'm hoping TLC is finally letting this show die a quiet death. No formal announcement like last time (2011?), so TFW can't go on a pity tour, "Woe is me, how will I ever be able to support my kids without our reality show?"

In fact, call me mean, but I also hope that TLC hasn't even informed TFW that the show is officially over. I hope they've just cut off communication with her. They don't need her anymore; she's far more trouble than she's worth (crappy ratings). She doesn't even deserve to be told it's officially over. She should be able to figure it out herself anyway.

Just think what she could have accomplished since that official cancellation almost six and a half years ago. If she were smart, she would have done something to further her education and career, whether it be in nursing or some other area. She has no excuse for being stuck where she is.

If I were TLC, that's exactly what I'd do. When TLC formally cancelled Kate Plus 8 several years ago, Kate saw that as an opportunity to exploit, and she did it with gusto.
TLC was left holding the bag. How dare they? How could they! Kate is a single mother with 8 chillins to feed!
Think of the chillins!!!!
TLC gave Kate the perfect opportunity to play the victim to their cruelty and hell if I'd give her that opportunity again.
When you think back to the mealy-mouthed announcement about not having another season planned right now, but perhaps filming in the future, that's exactly what TLC did.
Leave the window open a little bit and Kate can't go crying to the media about "piecing and patching" after TLC made her a multi-millionaire.

Layla said...

Tucker's Mom and Former Lurker,
YES!!! She totally exploited her poor-little-me status and basically shamed TLC for leaving a mom of 8 without a job until they took her back. There are things that have happened since they took her back that have made me wonder....for instance, they have kept her media appearances to a bare minimum. It's like they wanted to wean the media off her. She was making constant appearances last time they cancelled, but now nobody is really interested. Then, by keeping filming to a minimum and refusing to promote the show, they weaned the viewing public off the show. Then there was the very short season and wishy-washy announcement that really didn't mean anything except that they weren't really filming (or planning to. Maybe.), which left her with no sob story to sell. We knew there was something very fishy about the lack of promotion for the show, and that non-announcement was beyond weird. They aren't letting her shame them this time. She's too arrogant to admit that there's no filming going on, so she's stuck. They played her perfectly.

She’s so strange in that she doesn’t seem very interested in having any companionship ..her kids are growing up and will have their own lives soon...I wonder if she’ll turn into a crazy dog lady...

Her problem is that she’s addicted to the fame. If she’s not on TV she’s not relevant. I still laugh when I think of her telling that reporter “One day I’ll own this mic” and that her dream job was to have one of the interviewer chairs on The View. There was also her dream of doing voice-over work on cartoons. Yeah, how are those working out for you TFW? She’s completely irrelevant now. Just a rich, divorcée from nowhere PA. I really think that she’d jump at any reality show that comes calling.

Speaking of a new post, how about the Turpin case in California where 13 children were imprisoned in the house of horror. From what I understand, they lived in a highly populated area, not some isolated location, and it's hard to imagine some neighbour didn't wonder what was going on. If the children were being home-schooled shouldn't educational authorities have been checking on their progress? So many questions; I'd like to hear Admin's take (if she is free to discuss or comment, under the circumstances involved).

I was just reading about the Turpins too. So many details of their lives sound very familiar. A huge number of kids, all homeschooled, all with names starting with "J". The whole family dressing up in matching polo shirts when they go out in public. All the girls have long hair, all the boys have hair that's obviously cut at home, Parents having so many kids for religious purposes. They sound like Duggar clones to me, although the Duggars didn't starve or chain their kids. Even the pictures of the mother gazing adoringly at the father remind me of the way Michelle would gaze at JB.

Tucker's Mom said...

The Turpin case is horrific. How could no one have been concerned or even suspicious?
13 kids and no extended family?? No neighbor seeing the kids look like they're actually shrinking instead of growing?
The similarities to big families that insist every public appearance be done with perfectly-behaved children, matching clothing and Stepford smiles is eerie.

Even that mother's mug shot! She has that trance-like, gauzy look on her face. WTF, lady??

This is yet another hard lesson that lurking behind these cults can be very inappropriate behavior indeed and that this is not a religious freedom question when it comes to doing harm to children.

I see this case as a metaphor for the entire culture of looking the other way when bad things happen. As far as I'm concerned folks like Meryl Streep who look the other way when Harvey Weinstein comes by are no different than anyone who looked the other way on this one.

One little call to CPS when someone noticed something off might have changed everything long ago.

What's worse in Streep's case (and I'm sure MANY other women in Hollywood) is that their motivation was expediency.
Knowing that taking a stand or not playing the game, or even going to the authorities would mean that their career was over stopped MANY people, many women, MANY who were in that auditorium, wearing black (Oh, wearing black is SO HARD!) and stupid pins, applauding Oprah like she's the second coming of Jesus himself.
Oprah conferring upon all those women in that auditorium, the special dispensation from ever having to be a victim again, made me want to puke.
The power to stop Harvey Weinstein was always within their reach. They just chose not to.
That includes especially, Oprah herself.

I've not doubt she knew.

It is worse. Here, the neighbors and relatives who frankly seem a little daft, didn't pick up the phone and dial CPS because they just didn't.

Meryl and her croonies didn't call a press conference to stop this guy once and for all because they wanted to keep collecting his money. So basically, no exaggeration they are his pimps.

What I find interesting about Oprah is that although at least she has disclosed she was a rape victim before it was cool to do so (although as I recall only because rumors were flying) but that she refuses to name who did it. Surely haven't we learned after all this that if we must say not only that it happened but it was HIM, that's the only way we will stop HIM? So Oprah is up there saying time's up, yet won't even name HER own rapist? When will HIS time be up, Oprah? And how many other girls and women has he raped since because you won't press charges? He impregnated her for god sake.

The Oprah worship is WEIRD, frankly.

I've popped in on her show from time to time since childhood, though less so once I became an adult. She was actually a popular afternoon show to watch when I was a kid. A lot of girls would tune in and watch right alongside the women. That is a testament to her and what a broad audience she attracts.

When you really listen to her over the years, she is super, super new agey. I remember once she described how she does not get period cramps because she has willed herself not to with the power of the mind. It's nonsense. She used to have a lot more out there guests. I remember some reincarnation folks who were on.

Make no mistake, she's a Hollywood looney tunes and should not run for president and I think even she knows that. But I think also she does have a good heart and has done a lot of good for a lot of people in little and big ways. And does a great interview, and I really like that she's hunkered down to do more serious and important stories on 60 minutes these days. She is a good journalist. When her friend, cough lover, Gail talks about her, the stories she tells about the absolutely incredible generosity that woman has bestowed on her since day one long before she was ever famous, is mind blowing. That is great. But she is a false idol.

That and was I the only one scratching my head over Oprah's canonization of Recy Taylor, well deserved actually, who would not stop until she got justice for her repeated rape? It was immediately, immediately reported to the police, she sought assistance from and cooperated with all the help offered from the NAACP, she cooperated with telling her story to the press, even in the face of repeated death threats she continued to tell her story, she basically acted like the grown up taking care of her business so that justice would be served and those men could never hurt anyone else. A grown up that so many pathetic modern women today have refused to be.

SOOOO wait a second, but Oprah refused to breathe one word of her rape and impregnation until decades later and even then never did name her rapist or seek justice by cooperating with prosecuting him or even suing him in civil court. How many more girls did that man rape, Oprah, while you kept silent? So, what the hay? Why is no one talking about this?

She just loves to preach the Gospel of Oprah but she doesn't practice what she preaches. Maybe she's forgiven them in one of her more spiritual moments.

The thing is, she has repeatedly told her sexual abuse/molestation stories about being victimized by cousins, uncles and family friends, some of whom are still quite likely out there. So yes, I agree. Time IS up. Spill it or stfu and stick to investing in weight loss programs.

Aziz Ansari's #metoo accuser needs to come forward by name and apologize for perhaps ruining his career.
It makes me LIVID to see these women thwarting a movement meant to expose actual abusers and sexual offenders.
"Grace"- I think her fake name is- and Aziz went on a date and basically, Ansari wanted to get the pretext of dinner and chit chat over with quickly and move onto the sex portion of the program.
"Grace" agreed to accompany Ansari back to his apt. where things got hot and heavy quickly.
Sidebar...when the guy asks you if you want to go back to his place before you've taken a second bite of your lobster roll? He just wants to f*ck you, mmK?
So, "Grace" doesn't want to have intercourse, but thinks going as far as oral sex with satisfy Ansari so she can be cuddled and really get to know him.
Awww.....

Ansari, blue balled, still wants intercourse and heavily hints as much, and "Grace" at that point says she wants to leave. So, he calls a cab, kisses her goodbye (at this point, "Grace" thinks his kissing her is offensive, what?), gives her a follow up text aaaaaaaaaaaand....it was the worst date night of her LIFE!!!!!!

Do women really think men can read their minds? Do women not get that going to a guy's place probably means he wants to have SEX? Do women not know how to utter the word, "NO"?. Do women not have the ability to walk out a door and go home?
Holy crap!
If you go out, be sure you have a means to get home. Take money, credit, phone. UBER is your friend!!

This was yet another false #metoo flag and I really hope more women in media, like Ashely Banfield, speak up and defend men for not being able to read women's mind.
Like, "I'll go back to your apt. with you, but won't go past third base, but, I won't actually say that, so you'll have to figure out my conflicting signals and body language all on your own". "Oh, and if you don't get all my non-verbal cues and obvious inner thoughts, I'm going to accuse you of sexual crimes."

You know, I've actually read that there's a growing movement of men who are just saying, "f8ck it" when it comes to women. Nope, not gonna even try to have a relationship because we're just too damn batshit crazy.

The reality is god knows how many more children were molested because she has never gotten around to pursuing justice. She is just as bad as Meryl Streep and anyone else who has looked the other way. Maybe because, unlike you, most human beings have empathy for a 9 year-old rape victim and don't compare their actions to those of an adult victim like Recy Taylor. WTF is wrong with you?

&&&&

I didn't compare 9 year old Oprah to Recy. I compared adult Oprah to Recy. Recy was 24 years old when she turned in her rapists. What was Oprah doing when she was 24? Oh right, still protecting her multiple abusers.
My empathy lies with every single victim subsequently abused by abusers who have not been turned in by multi millionaires who had absolutely nothing to lose doing so. That's where my empathy is. Where's yours?

Oprah conferring upon all those women in that auditorium, the special dispensation from ever having to be a victim again, made me want to puke.

Lol! Henceforth, it shall be remembered as "Oprah's Sermon on the Podium.

Yeah, those women in black all gazed at her up looking like they had just listened to Churchill's "We shall fight on the beaches ..." speech for the first time. Blech.

Freedom!!

Oprah’s speech had a nice structure to it with a lot of classic public speaking elements. She had a professional help her with it or read a book or something. The Hollywood doopdy doos got all so very impressed by that.

kateplusmy8@miloandjack2016 WELL. she still has her puppy nonstop energy but at least she can sleep through the night without every two hour potty breaks... BUT Sometimes I think I'd go back to that bc she was so incredibly adorable, these pics make me cry! Regardless, I am so very forever attached to this girl, it's indescribable! She's my best nonhuman friend! 😍

And poor old Stedman sat there trying not to look bored. She probably read it to him about a hundred times back at home.

I used to enjoy the Golden Globes more than the Oscars because it was more laid back - more of a let's get drunk and hand out trophies kind of thing. Now everybody has to have a cause. Causes are good and they have a place, but not for achievements in the profession you're getting awarded for. It alienates viewers imo.

They should start giving out a Best Cause Award first to get it out of the way and then they can get on with the show.

The hell? Did she explain anything else?

I don't mind if people want to share or not share health issues online, that's up to you, but I can't STAND when people TEASE. If you're going to share, please explain what is going on. This vague still fighting stay strong crap is just juvenile.

Oh I agree! She posted her usual platitudes “Shout out to all plants that grow through concrete” and she just goes on and on about remaining strong, blah blah blah.

Sounds like a dig at Kate. What’s the matter Milo? Didn’t Kate reach out to you privately while you were gone these past four months?
Not so much of a Pal that you thought she was.
Milo’s passive aggressive behavior is just way too much. Just come out and say what you mean and mean what you say, Jeez!

Auntie, I used to watch awards shows, until politics began to dominate and celebs used the stage as a pulpit to lecture to the mediocres watching.
My tolerance for their bullchite just isn't there any longer. I don't need Hollywood elites telling me what to think, believe or choose. And no, when I say "Hollywood elite" I'm not talking about make up artists and key grips.
I still love the red carpet...total guilty pleasure!
Although, I did skip it entirely a couple weeks ago when the #metoo, #timesup protestors wore black.
Because wearing a black designer gown is so much harder than wearing white, or pink, or blue....whaaaaa.

Doesn't make her presidential material

I hope everyone in a cold state (or country) has been able to keep warm. Milo is alive and (maybe) well! It has been confirmed that Kate still has dogs.

A new season of Frankie and Grace begins tonight.

I went to see I, Tonya this week. Weirdly good movie. CJ from West Wing is chilling as a mom with detachment disorder. The movie goes well with a big bowl of buttered popcorn.

Just thinking of all the ladies here...

I also saw I Tonya. Found it both funny and heartbreaking. It reminded me how incredibly talented and gritty that young woman was. Due to circumstance, she did not have the sort of positive home life that would help her be well adjusted and mentally stable. Incredible movie.

I saw the prime-time interview with Tanya last week and it really brought me over to her side. I never disliked her, per se, but she did have the "trailer trash-bad girl" assignment juxtaposed against Nancy Kerrigan's "poise and grace" persona.
I think Tanya made so many bad choices, but the fact she's still alive and seems happy defies tremendous odds.
Tremendous odds.
A real moment of clarity during Tanya's interview came when she discusses her mother's drinking, and it seemed like her mother was very much an alcoholic; a "functional alcoholic". Tanya said her mother would drive her to skating practice at 0-dark hundred in the morning and her mom would fill a thermos with coffee and brandy, so she'd be drinking before the sun came up.
Her mother denied it and said she "liked the flavor of brandy" and she "put brandy flavoring" in her coffee.
Wow, that's some strong denial at her age, after all this time.
What Tanya was up against-whew-I can't even imagine.
I also came away thinking that Tanya knew more than she let on way back then. I don't know if she could have stopped it, but she was part of the toxic stew which resulted in Kerrigan being attacked.

What's just so wrong is can you imagine Collin reading this? Unless he's on some "Girl Interrupted" lock down with Nurse Ratchet lording over him, he's got access to the internet and social media.
I can't imagine the pain of seeing you mother fawn over a dog-and you know how much I love dogs-while you've been sent away never to sleep in your own bed, play in your house, pool, property etc...
It's just...wicked.

Tucker's Mom...Agree with everything you said.

I have never been a fan of Oprah. After her speech at the Golden Globes I loved that a slew a people tweeted out a picture of her planting a big kiss on Harvey Weinstein's cheek. This is why I refuse to listen to anyone in Hollywood. Hypocrisy reigns supreme.

I actually was tearing up when Tonya sewed her own costume skated her heart out landed every jump and wasn't getting the scores, only to find out the judges thought her costume she worked so hard on was tacky and they didn't like that she wasn't from a wholesome two-parent all-American household. Docking points because your mom is on husband number four?! Man, the 90's really weren't that long ago either.

You know, it's hard to be a poor kid with a bad home life, none of which is your fault.

I also thought the implication that Tonya really should have been disqualified for committing a criminal act against an opponent, but wasn't because the Tonya-Nancy showdown was going to be a ratings bonanza, just is yet another example of Hollywood never really caring about victims, whether it's sexual abuse victims or physical i.e. Nancy, like ever. There are various suggestions they could have and might have hurt Nancy far, far worse than they did.

To be perfectly honest (:o) I only watched about three and a half minutes of Oprah's lecture online. That's about all I can tolerate of her. Any longer than that and I start hunting around for high proof alcohol. What I was kind of hoping for, was to see if Meryl Streep was going to get up there and apologize to her Hollywood bffs for calling Weinstein God a few years ago. But alas, it didn't happen.

After all this time they still don't understand how trite and disconnected they are. Very, very few have the foggiest idea what they're talking about when it comes to politics, and thus should avoid it.

I liked Francis McDermott who was like, meh, I'm gonna wear what I want to which is navy blue because I'm not really down with blending politics and my work. Funny thing is I bet she's smart enough to contribute something valuable to the conversation. Yet smart enough to shut up.

Can you imagine how sick she is of people asking about the show coming back? She's posting like crazy to fill her narcissistic need for adoration, and those pesky fans are asking about the show instead of praising her like they're supposed to be doing. She'd love to give some wink-wink hints just to get them whipped into a frenzy, but she can't because they'd be expecting something to come of it. What's a self-absorbed egotist to do?

I'm still seeing more horror stories coming out about those 13 kids in CA. All those people who saw something off but said nothing. Let this be a lesson to all the Kate fans who say she's entitled to raise her kids any way she wants. No parent is entitled to do harm to their children. And to those who say that if there were any abuse in the home, then CPS would have stepped in--well, we now have a glaring example of the failure of CPS to protect abused children.

I'm long over all the dipshits in Hollywood. I was never a fan of Oprah and agree with the recent comments about the Oprah worship being over the top and ridiculous. But, any tolerance I might have ever had for Oprah ended completely some time back in 2009. I'm bringing it up because of your comment, Admin, that ".... they still don't understand how trite and disconnected they are."

That is very true when it comes to Oprah. I have to admit that I have never forgotten something she said back then, and I actually remember it every time I have the misfortune to see a clip of her on TV. It was some time in early 2009, or early spring at the latest. It was after the great financial crash and millions of people had lost their jobs, as well as their homes, or were about to lose their homes. People who had good paying professional jobs were trying to figure out how to get by on unemployment and many were working two or three crappy paying part time jobs to survive until things hopefully got better.

And, I flipped on the TV one day and happened to see the last minute or two of Entertainment Tonight. There was out of touch Oprah talking about how we all have to find our best purpose in life and wake up thinking about what we are here to do, and blah blah, blah. I'm just paraphrasing, but it was along those lines. While she was busy navel gazing, she really had NO CLUE that millions of people were losing everything - their jobs, their health insurance, their homes, or living in fear that they were about to lose it all. While they were simply trying to survive, they didn't have the luxury she had to sit around and contemplate life. I admit I shouted at the TV, "Oh, STFU - for once - Oprah....Give me a freaking break....Screw you, Oprah."

Since then I have not been interested in one damn word this out of touch moron has to say about anything.
