Recap: Kate Plus 8 "Beach Time!": Shoulda let her strings go, Ike

Coming up on Kate Plus 8, another baller vacation, this time in Alabama, where they pretty must do every expensive excursion you could possibly do at the ocean.  This is their "yearly" trip to the ocean, says Kate, and by yearly she means if they are filming she will finagle a trip to the ocean. They also finally train their almost six-month-old puppies, who should have been trained four months ago. Don't try to figure it out, one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. You know, why does one get puppies over the summer anyway if you know you're going to be out of town so much? Part of the reason they're so poorly behaved is because their owners are not providing them any consistency.

Kate again emphasizes they came in late last night. We were all shaking our heads to realize they filmed the space camp footage and traveled a six hour drive to the beach house all in the same day. What reason would she have to lie about that? Wouldn't she lie and say the opposite, that they filmed it over several days, so as not to give the appearance of over-working the kids? We had a discussion on the blog about this show's budget, and all signs are suggesting it's been slashed dramatically. From having to film everything in just a day or two, to hauling in their own food from grocery stores instead of eating out, to now, vacationing in the deep South in the dead of summer, when prices tend to hit rock bottom because it's so hot and muggy. God bless Alabama, but it's not so comfortable in August.

There's an aerial shot of the beach house, and it's huge. It's a mansion, with a big dock right along a beautiful inlet. In the background, you can see the city just a hop, skip and a jump away. And this after Kate claimed the house was in the middle of nowhere so they had to bring all their own food in. No they're not.

They're about to go parasailing, and Kate demands they all finish up lunch quickly or she "might ask the man to let the strings go." I'm all for having a sense of humor with your kids, but why is Kate constantly teasing about things that could either kill or cause great bodily harm to her children? It's truly creepy, no joke.

Those "girls" of Kate's, oy! Put them away, especially in the kitchen. Is this a brothel or summer vacation?

The parasailing instructor Ike introduces his crew but gets bored when Kate tries to introduce herself and instead he just keeps giving directions, cutting her off. Heh, I have a funny feeling he really doesn't care who she is or what this filming is all about, this is just another customer to keep safe and provide a good experience to and on to the next one. He will soon go the way to the river raft man, I feel this one coming.

Oddly, there is no discussion of seasickness this time. We have to have the conversation on every other boat ride, what gives? The three youngest girls whoosh up first, and love it. Everyone is shocked how high they go up when parasailing, including me. 450 feet?! Yowser. Okay, I'll give Kate a pass here on not liking this. This is way too much like skydiving, only even worse, there's no instructor with you and the harnesses look really flimsy. The boys and the twins take a crack at it, too. You guessed it, this was fun.

A long discussion from Kate about how she didn't want to be pressured into doing this. What dramatics. I didn't see anyone pressuring her. It's no skin off Ike's back whether she goes or not and the kids don't care. In fact most kids wouldn't care what mom does or doesn't do. It's all about them at this age. The kids were enjoying their own fun on this ride, and telling her all about it, and if she wants to do it fine, if she doesn't, it's not their problem. This actually is part of her narcissism, that she thinks anyone gives a damn what she wants to do with herself. Nobody does. Heh, I like the flashback to the New Zealand bungie jumping, where Brad pushes her off the ledge. One of the few flashbacks they should just keep playing over and over. Ike is finally like well are you going or not, decide now. That's right, it's really freaking annoying when someone is holding up the group with their indecisiveness. Oh good Lord, she's crying now. Ike is like, okay, nope abort. Seriously! I love that he's not putting up with her shenanigans. Either jump in the deep end or not, but if not, get off the damn diving board so everyone else can carry on with their fun.

Of course Kate refuses to abort because at the end of the day she knows good and damn well she will do this, that this is all for maximum show and attention and making sure this is all about her. She demands Ike only send her up a few feet.  Once again in an effort to make herself feel better, she's made the ride more precarious. Common sense suggests that's terribly unsafe. You wouldn't get as much wind in the sail that way, and if anything goes wrong, there's absolutely no room to correct it before you slam face first into the back of the boat. Idiot. Nope, that's not how it works, is essentially Ike's response.

Kate eventually gets on the ride, with the obligatory screaming and screeching and parentified Aaden and Cara going up with her to comfort her. Kate remarks once again that it was not being able to swim that was one of the things bothering her. Good God, then get some swimming lessons for the love of holy heck and then that fear will be solved. Holy moly. And by the way, from that height, not being able to swim is not going to be the problem if anything does malfunction. I mean, you're dead from 450 feet if it failed. Is she dumb, or just stupid? By the way, in some brief googling about parasailing accidents, I found that the Federal Aviation Administration has regulated parasailing to 400 feet maximum. So, was Ike exaggerating when he said they would go up 450, or breaking the law? Hm.

Let me be clear here, there's nothing wrong with not liking parasailing. I'll admit it, I would never do this and do not feel unfulfilled for not doing so. About on average one death every 1-2 years doing this is enough for me to say no thanks. But to cause all this drama is uncalled for.

You know, the kids were having fun. A blast. They loved seeing the sites from up high and no one was fighting or bickering, or feeling sick to their stomach, or upset. Doofus ruined a rare pleasant outing. And I think a huge part of her disturbing psychology is that she can't help but ruin it. One, because she's petrified it won't be good footage because calmness in her mind is boring to viewers. And two, she can't help but want the attention all on her. Quite the opposite, I enjoyed seeing the kids relaxed like this, it was good to see them have a moment where everything was working out. It only got obnoxious when the plot turned to her freak out.

Kate does a weird nervous slithering snake thing with her tongue on the ride. The twins make fun of it. It's almost like a tick, which may be just a tiny clue into the chemistry of her brain. That's something a six-year-old would do when they are stressed, not a mature adult woman who has control of herself. If you don't believe something is very wrong with her upstairs, I don't know what to tell you.

Heh, they do a private interview with Ike once back on shore, who calls Kate a basket case. He should have let her strings go, eh?! I expect about five years from now Kate will be trashing him just like she did the rafting instructor from five years ago, because that's how this woman rolls.

The next "day" (I'm keeping track of the days now, it's got my attention), they go on a segway tour.  Joel's segway won't go fast, to which Cara calls him "stupid." Um, no, he's not stupid. His segway wouldn't go fast because it was on "beginner" mode. It had nothing to do with Joel. These kids always jump to the most cutting, nasty remarks about each other, and often it's completely unjustified. One of the instructors fixes it for him and he starts going at normal speeds, no big deal and no cause for cutting him down, Cara.

They were "naturing along" on the segways and it started to rain. Naturing??

It's a little hard to tell what's going on next amid all the whining, but it certainly appears that Mady and Kate are ready to make the whole group call it quits because of the sprinkle that's messing up their hair. Many of the other kids are very distraught at the idea of cutting this short, as they should be. What the hell? It's not pouring nor do I see any lightning which would make this unsafe, and once again, it's hella rude to quit a group activity when so many other people would like to continue, not to mention the instructors who made great efforts to set this up nice for you. And probably, are doing so with the understanding built into this that filming will include some free promotion. Therefore, quitting early is even more not cool in this scenario. Same as what they did on the horseback ride in the Poconos! Just quit!

I'm well aware Mady is just a child, but she is extremely selfish and spoiled, and I have never once heard Kate tell her she is being selfish and spoiled, to knock it off, get back on her segway, and suck it the F up, as she should as the parent. In fact in this case, Kate backed her up! What?! The instructor wants to know if these kids always complain this much. I'll answer: yes. Kate doesn't seem at all embarrassed a perfect stranger has within minutes pegged her kids as massive bellyachers. She should be mortified they are behaving this way in public, or at all.

Kate gets mad when Lex stops in the middle of the path, and blames Lex for almost making her crash. No, Doofus, you need to pay attention to what's in front of you and be ready to stop if you need to. I wonder how many cars she's rear-ended in her lifetime. I'm guessing a lot. And it was their fault too they stopped you told the cops, right?

Kate refuses to turn the speed up on her machine, yet is complaining (after that guy just told them they complain too much) that kids are darting in front of her on the road. Cara explains that the reason everyone is darting in front of her is indeed because she's going too darn slow. Well, that makes sense.

"I'm so tired of getting picked on about everything I do, just leave me be!" says 12-year-old doofus here.

Sigh. You weren't being "picked on," Kate. You were being called out, correctly so, for being obnoxious on a fun activity. Same with the parasailing; if you can't keep up, sit it out. But don't insist on doing something you really aren't mentally prepared for, and then spoil everyone else's fun. It's refreshing to see the kids call her out now that they're older, yet at the same time, I'm really sorry that their lives have to involve calling out their raging lunatic of a mother so much. It looks stressful.

It's their last day. So, I clocked the beach portion of the trip at three full days, plus their one full day at space camp, for a grand total of four full days on the trip to make two episodes, not counting flying days. Wow. What is the point to travel this far for less than a week?! These kids must be absolutely beat.

Kate makes half full coffee cups of oatmeal with a few drops of liquid brown sugar, and a third of a small cup of orange juice, which is not nearly enough food for kids this age, period, especially those about to do a very physical activity. We watch her pour the oatmeal into the pot and can see how little she puts in for eight people. Thankfully there are a few big croissants floating around, but it's unclear how much they each got to eat of each of them. An airy croissant is not going to fill a kid up either unless they eat a lot of them. I never hear the kids complain they're hungry, I wonder if they've just accepted the dainty portion sizes. So many of them seem irritable all the time, one really has to wonder if it's because they're getting hungry within a few hours of eating. Once conditioned to under eat for so long, they might not recognize and connect their irritability to their hunger. I think I was one of the bloggers here in the past to ere on the side of concerns about their food intake are probably overblown, but I've been rethinking it lately. The undersized portions are much more noticeable now and much more concerning now that they are older and need to eat more. Almost all the kids are thin, and I daresay a lot of them have a dull look to their skin (or bad skin in general) and hair which can be a strong indication they're not filling up on all those yummy calories a 12-year-old craves or drinking enough. Another thing to note is that everyone got the same exact portions. With eight kids, there's going to be some kids who are eating more than others. It's unlikely they all need exactly the same amount. For instance, at this age the boys and the twins should be starting to have appetites that pull away from the younger sisters. In some cases, a 12-year-old boy will want to eat nearly double what the girls are eating. In any case, nothing starts a day off terribly than not getting enough to eat and drink.

The kids take over this big floating trampoline thing in the middle of the water. Huh, is that theirs to use? And who is lifeguarding this when Kate can't swim? Incredibly dangerous. Oh, and by the way, once again she won't let them dish up the amount of oatmeal and brown sugar they would like. She has to portion it out for them like they're in a nursing home. It would have been nice to just stay at a hotel with a breakfast buffet and let them fill up their own trays, full of as much waffles, yogurt, eggs and biscuits 'n' sausage gravy they want. And a tall glass of juice.

This is getting tedious. Next they go kayaking, where this instructor has to tell the group to relax and calm down, and that they're here to have fun. Again, isn't it embarrassing that a perfect stranger has to tell your family to relax and calm down? Is anyone in this family feeling chagrinned at all, or are they so used to making a scene it doesn't phase them anymore? Ha, I'm liking Alabamians. This instructor, Chris, flat out tells them, eh, I'm not gonna remember any of your names but whatever, sure, you're Kate. Lol. She must just hate this blasé attitude by the locals. No one seems at all impressed by them or seems to know who they even are.

At some point Mady loses phone privileges because she pushed Kate's kayak away. Huh, what? Kate has an absolute meltdown over who even knows what. Kate is convinced this was an intermediate kayaking trip. Not in the slightest! It was a flat little inlet. Baby to beginner at best. What is she even talking about? Not really relaxing though, right under a freeway overpass. Heh, drowns Kate out though.

The instructor finally gives up and tethers his kayak to Kate, towing her back. What a dolt.

Heh, the instructor jokes that they have four miles left. Well, he'll go the way of Brad and river man in short order.

The way Kate angrily grits her teeth and says "Hannah, stop paddling!" was flipping scary. It's the tone of voice nasty parents use right before they yank their child's ear two feet up. In all seriousness, there are a lot of red flags present that this woman still harbors a very, very serious anger management problem. If she can't even keep it together while on camera, it is frightening to imagine what her limits are off camera. (Here are some of the tell-tale signs of an anger issue and Kate pretty much displays all of them just in this one episode: Criticizing, belittling, putting down, lack of patience, irritability and short temper, blaming everyone and everything else, people avoid you, people feel like they're walking on eggshells around you, and so on.)

Well this is sad. The instructor in his private interview said he had intended to take the group out to collect some trash and do a mini environmental clean-up, but he had to scratch that plan. Good job ruining everything, Kate. Again.

The vacation comes to an abrupt end and now we start the completely unrelated storyline of training the puppies. Naturally they get private one-on-one training with professional dog trainers, which is exorbitantly expensive. Kate spends a long time explaining how much of a crazy dog lady Kate is, with little to no clips to really back that up. I mostly get the impression the dogs to her are, depending on the day, a mild inconvenience to up to a total nuisance. Meanwhile when the dog trainer lady comes in, I know instantly she's a sincere dog lover without her just talking about it, as she greets the dogs down at their level in that baby voice true dog lovers use to speak to their dogs: "Who's a booo-tiful girl, yes yoo are!"

Kate? That's a crazy dog lady. Not you.

The dog lady is using clicker training? That's going to be way too complicated for this family. You guessed it, right out of the gate Kate is arguing with the trainers. What a pest she is.

Cara's picking lint again as Mady is explaining what is at the end of the day pretty boring.

I do like the trainer's firm emphasis on positive training. She believes in never punishing the dog at all, which is what I believe, too, mostly because I believe it is the most humane, but also because it just works better. Kate desperately needs this kind of training in parenting teens, I'm serious. She would really benefit from some one-on-one parenting training, I really think it would make everyone all around happier if she used some other technique, any other technique, other than being such an obnoxious nag yelling at them all the time. Click, Kate. Click click!

Kate says she has to say "come" 500 times. That's what she said.

The kids are having fun during all this, wrestling a bit, and there's Kate yelling and hollering at them again and making snide, unfunny remarks. She doesn't see the irony in all this emphasis on positive reinforcement, as she's being nothing but negative to the kids.

She thinks her joke about how the kids need children training is so funny she says it twice to the trainer and yet another time on the couch. I get a kick out of it when she gets so proud of herself for coming up with the most minimally clever dumb lines. Heh. In any case, no, Kate. The children are fine. They are children. You are the one who needs intensive, one-on-one parenting instruction. It's you.

Oh stop the presses, at age six months, someone is actually teaching these dogs how to walk on a leash. My God. Hint, put your dog on a leash and get them used to it the moment you bring them home and you won't have such an issue with a dog who looks nearly full grown looking at a leash like a confused child stumped by a math problem. That's pretty damning evidence these dogs have never been walked before in their lives. Another huge reason they are poorly behaved. It is not enough to just let a dog run around a big yard, they must be actually walked by an owner, on a leash. There are numerous articles all over the internet explaining why if you're interested in knowing more about that.

Next up, Sweet 16 for the twins. I kind of question whether a kid who picks lint on the couch the whole time during these episodes really wants her birthday party filmed. Sixteen, whew. Digest that for a second, the twins are sixteen and still being filmed. For the record, we first met them when they looked like this. That's them in between their parents:

Sixteen candles, Kate remarks. Heh, a poor man's Molly Ringwald.

See you next time.

Thanks for the recap, Admin. Based on what you say about how little time seems to be being spent in all these vacation spots, it makes me wonder if Figure 8/TLC are using reverse psychology to get K8 to cancel herself. Make the "fun" so unbearable, she says "I quit" before they have to fire her.

Meanwhile, over on IG, I can never figure out where these fans have formed their impressions of K8.

love3momma Hi @kateplusmy8 I have an odd question to ask you. I'm making a book of love notes around the world for my two little boys and I was wondering if you could help me add to their book by writing a note saying "Tyson & Kaiden, mummy's love for you is so strong it reached, Kate plus her 8 in (insert location)" and then hold it up and take a group photo with the note? We have watched your show from the beginning and my eldest loves seeing everything you guys get up to, including the dogs and it would be a perfect addition to our love notes book totally understand if you can't but I thought I'd try my luck

An odd question indeed. Ma'am, I wouldn't be holding my breath if I were you. This is the sort of thing K8 only does for $$$. So what's it worth to ya?

Kate gave up trying to teach these kids social skills a very long time ago. I think those kids bitch for good reason; it's HOT, the days are packed and long and not spontaneous. They are going to locations and hitting marks, waiting to get mic'd up/camera's up, with some morsels of fun hopefully in between.

Admin, tornadoes are not a dime a dozen in this area. We've had watches before, but the warning yesterday was cause for concern, especially when the local weather guys interrupted regular programming and zeroed in on our area, stating specifically that the tornado was headed in our direction and there were all kinds of alerts to take shelter immediately. There was significant damage here, but thankfully no injurie

$$$

What you're describing is a tornado *warning*. And then yes a basement is not a bad idea. This was what Kate called a watch. I grew up in the northeast about four hours from Kate, we had watches all the time. I didn't say tornados were a dime a dozen. I said "watches" were. Tornados are rare. But watches? All the time.

I'm surprised only a few hours away doesn't also experience frequent "watches." Odd. In any case after the 5th or sixth watch of the season you just go on with life.

My understanding from the article I saw was a few outbuildings were damaged no where near Kate, nobody was hurt and otherwise it was just like a run of the mill wind storm. No reason for anyone not directly in its path to panic.

Sad but true, intentional or not tlc is testing the limits. It gets to a point where normal families would say you know what, I don't care how much money it is, it's really not worth these terribly stressful vacations. I don't think Kate has an "it's not worth it" point like most other people do.

Hopefully, that was just the stunt breakfast to ensure the audience knows Kate is feeding her kids. Toss some instant oatmeal in a pot and splash some OJ in a cup, then let them fill more than their left rear molar off camera at the Craft Services table.

(((((((((((((((((((

I don't think there was a warning in her county but we had one here. It's not often we get an actual warning, mostly just watches. I just read National Weather Service confirmed it was a tornado that touched down in York County, just to our west. I haven't heard anything about Lancaster County. It was a frightening hour, not knowing in which direction it was going, or if it would suddenly turn and hit us head on.

Jeez, this woman is whacked, and I feel for her kids who are stuck with such an empty vessel.
Who the flipping fluck needs their kids to know that famous people are thinking about them and sending them "love notes"?
What mother needs to get strangers to send her kids notes? And as a reflection of how much she loves them?
I feel sorry for those boys.

Clicker training is INTENSE and takes a great deal of dedication. Seriously, we've trained our 2 dogs through several levels (up until you're ready to go for the Canine Good Citizen) and it'll make you want to pull your hair out at times.
NO WAY would one session do much good. Just wrapping your head around the school of thought, the terminology and the exercises themselves is like studying for an exam. Pair that with the physicality of it all and the coordinated moves you must master, and you are really working hard with your dog.
For each dog, we spent several months training.

But, there's Kate, taking a bow for driving her dogs around in a car.

Yup. Here's something that Kate could use from clicker training- "capturing" good or desired behaviors.
When your dog, or kid, does something positive or desirable, with no prompting, you immediately reward.
The next thing you know, your dog, or kid, associates that desired behavior with rewarding!
Brilliant.
But, Kate is reactive and punitive.

And boom, you've just failed the biggest, most important goal of training: recall.
I don't care if you teach your dog to make you coffee in the morning and rub your feet at night.
Not impressed.
Impressive is a solid recall because it is the one thing that could save their life.

LOL TUcker's Mom I'm in the middle of clicker training with my bulldog (10 months old) in preparation for his Canine Good Citizen class which starts in April. The clicker training is not going all that well (all it means to him is gimme a treat) but he has his hand signals down so I might just stick with them. He has been in classes continuously since he was 4 months old. I wonder if TFW has done any more training other than that one class. BTW, I can call "come" 500 times and my bully will come if he wants to, however, if I call "front" he immediately stops whatever develment he's into and come and sit in front of me.

LOL! I feel your pain!
I was pulling my hair out saying, "I'm nothing but a Pez dispenser!".
Some sessions had us just wiped and others felt like progress.
I think in the end, the clicker training develops a connection and you sure do find out a lot about your dog, and yourself!

Respectfully Admin, the girls were younger when we first met them. They are around 6-7 in that picture and we met them at around 4 and so years. I know it seems like a minor detail but at least to me it's not. I think it's important for the world to know exactly for how long these girls have been filming. Here's a picture of when Mady and Cara were first on TV.

It's scary to think about it. We're talking about 12 going on 13 years. This cannot be ok.

While I'm here, I'll express my shock at Kate counting the puppies' months but not the number of months her son has been gone. It's the saddest thing.

I could not agree more. These aren't vacations these are scenes being shot. The only reason they probably allow the kids to occassionally do stuff like playing freely in the water is so that the kids won't completely be burned out and that they continue to cooperate. I bet these kids have no major recollection of trips they've taken now, much less when they were young. It's all probably a whirlwind and there's not even enough time to learn anything. Call me crazy but I think all the G kids have learned from their filmed trips is how to hit their mark and say their lines.

I read she said she decided to lose weight to finally do something for herself. This from a woman who chose to date the man who sexually molested her daughter when she was a child. Let that sentence sink and, and see if you actually believe that sort of behavior scans with a being a martyr.

Thanks for the recap, Admin. It absolutely confirms what a nest of ingrates she has raised.

There was discussion at the time that the tongue flicking is a side effect of a particular type of prescription.

Tucker's Mom said...

The tongue flicking- there is no sign that this was some sort of involuntary movement, or tardive dyskinesia, that is a result of medication.
Put it in the same category of her flipper hands thing she does. She was overly excited and stimulated and there was some weird motor movements going one that looked really odd.
I don't think it's related to meds or pathology.
Kate is just plain prone to exaggeration on every level.
She can't stay comported on a couch, so...

******************************

Types of Movement Disorders

A person with a movement disorder suffers from involuntary, unwanted movements and feelings of physical agitation. Many of the drugs used to treat depression or bipolar disorder can cause one or more movement disorders.

Certain prescription drugs like antipsychotics cause movement disorders in some people. A clinical review of drug-induced movement disorders on Medscape and an article published in Rhode Island Medicine outlines the physical characteristics of each disorder, which include the following symptoms:
* Dystonia –  This is a twisting movement or abnormal posture, which may include involuntary limb movements, facial grimacing, rhythmic tongue movement and jaw opening, or closing usually within two to five days of taking medication.
* Parkinsonism – Symptoms include tremor at rest, extreme slowness to movements, rigidity and postural instability. Too often physicians mistake this disorder for a type of depression. Symptoms will get better after drug is stopped although it may take 18 months.
* Tardive dyskinesia – This includes well-coordinated continual movements of the mouth, tongue, jaw and cheeks and may include lip smacking, cheek puffing and tongue thrusting. Jaw movements may resemble chewing motions, and tongue movements may be writhing or twisting. People treated with antipsychotics also may have trunk movements, which are typically in the form of pelvic thrusting, trunk twisting, or flicking of the extremities. This usually appears three months into taking a drug, and symptoms usually go away once the drug is stopped.
* Akathisia – Symptoms include an inner feeling of restlessness and coordinated movements such as marching in place and crossing and uncrossing the legs while sitting.

Medications that Cause Movement Disorders
Several movement disorders are linked to prescription drugs that alter levels of dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is linked to feelings of pleasure and positive expectations.
The following drugs may cause a movement disorder in some people according to the Medscape article. The majority of the drugs are used to treat some form of mental health disorder such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or depression.
* Drugs that treat depression and/or anxiety – Examples include Tricyclic medications (Imipramine) and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIS) (Fluvoxamine, Paroxetine, Sertraline).
* Drugs that prevent nausea such as Metoclopramide, Droperidol, Prochlorperazine.
* Antipsychotics such as Haloperidol, Loxapine, Molindone
* Drugs that release epinephrine including psychostimulants like amphetamine and decongestants like pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine
* Drugs that treat heart arrhythmias like amiodarone
* Drugs that treat agitation and/or blood pressure such as reserpine and tetrabenazine
* Drugs that treat epilepsy like Lamotrigine
* Lithium

I'm curious to see what the ratings are for Mama June's new show. I can't stand that family, but they had a pretty solid audience when they were on TLC. I find it interesting that other networks have found new ways to market former TLC talent. Leah Remini's Scientology show did very well (I watched some of it, and it was very eye-opening), and now if Mama June gets good ratings--well, what does that tell you about TLC? They keep recycling the same tired, old story lines and then can't seem to figure out why audiences tune out. They don't seem to have the imagination to shake things up a bit. They could have delved into Scientology with Leah Remini. They could have worked with Mama June to get healthy. But they never seem to take chances.

Self soothing behaviors can be seen displayed by those with any number of things going on. It could be anxiety. It also could be autism, or other mental health issues. It could also be immaturity. A normal six year old will often self soothe whereas a normal 16 year old would not. I am not judging self soothing behavior. In fact it can be a good thing if it helps to calm a person and isn't hurtful to them or others. All I said in my recap is that it's an indication there is something going on with her other than a normal 42 year old woman. Relax.

Wow, what was TLC thinking with this post today (on the K8 FB page)?

"Boys will be boys! To see more of your favorite Gosselin sibling moments, watch #KatePlus8 on #TLCgo! http://bit.ly/2lNqOUz"

The comments are, of course, wide-ranging:

XXXXX Collin does seem to need help. His whole demeanor between the earlier seasons and 4 are like night and day. He was always lively and willing to take the lead. He seemed depressed and distant in season 4. So sad.

XXXXX He's probably being medicated! I think it's really sad that he's missing out on his family!

AAAA I'm tired of people saying Kate sent her son away to a home! She sent her child to school to get help that experts suggested! If your child was sick would you send them to a hospital, if blind would you send them to learn braille, if deaf would you send them to learn sign language?? There's no difference for a child that has other problems! He needed help and she got it! I think it's commendable because sending a child away from brothers and sisters cannot be easy on anyone especially a mother! I think she's done an amazing job for a situation that she did not choose!

BBBB Well, think what you want and say what you will. He will grow up. He will remember all the special things the other kids did that he was not a part of.....unless that child is locked up...there is no reason why he could not be included in field trips....vacations and such. He will know he was left out. Mama gonna be the bunt of his grief of that in time.

AAAA Pat Hilderbran, you obviously don't know anything about this child or the situation or you wouldn't make these remarks! Colin was always included in on vacations, field trips and anything else the family did! Last season he went to a different school and was out of the home during that time! He had issues to correct so he could return to the family! I respect Kate keeping his situation private and his school out of the public eye! He will return and will be happy with himself and the change he made in his own life! Mother's can do practically everything but they can't do it all!

CCCC You can send your child to a mental health facility, hospital or school in or for him to get get, but unless the parent(s) and rest of family attend counseling, get classes and make changes, then it's a waste of money. Kate and the rest of her brood need to make changes too. I have up on Jon long ago, he's useless.

XXXXX Your boys are beaten down little robots who's will has been broken by u yet your daughters are fresh entitled spoiled brats.

And her FB page's (and IG's and Twitter's) resident weirdo is still hyper-focused on one twin:

Anthony Salomone Kate is a awesome mom she taking care of 8 kids on her own without any help and jon just shoots off his mouth to the press and Cara is very cool

Sad but true (#43), the Kool Aid is still in the troughs at the sheeple pasture. Love this sentence: "I think it's commendable because sending a child away from brothers and sisters cannot be easy on anyone especially a mother!" I'd amend the end of that sentence to "cannot be easy on anyone EXCEPT his mother." Life has never been happier at Ms. Gosselin's Home for Exploited Children. Just ask her yourself and she'll tell you.

And what a hoot -- "I respect Kate keeping his situation private." Cut to People article, which not only violated C's privacy, but put money in TFW's pocket for the violation.
She's an evil genius, isn't she?

Tucker's Mom said...

I love how the sheep on the one hand, crow about how Kate's keeping Collin's situation private. Yet, it's public knowledge every since Kate splashed the news of his departure across a tabloid magazine cover.
How they don't get the irony is beyond me.
Also, how sure they are that Collin is in some "school".
They choose this utopian view of what that boy's life is like, when they haven't a clue. Kate frames the situation, and they fill in the rest with these notions like Kate just dropped Collin and his faithful, feathery friend off at Platform 9 3/4, and he's been playing Quidditch with his posse for the past 9 months.

Tucker's Mom (#45), I think we can count TFW's references to C since his departure on the fingers of one hand. If he was truly progressing well, or improving at all, she could very easily pass that info on without details. Something super general like, C is working hard, and I'm so proud of him, and we all can't wait for him to come home. All she's mentioned is he's plodding, plugging and chugging along. I've heard people discuss room renovations with more emotion and investment.

The longer C is away, he less likely I think his return is.

"Well, all I know that the tongue flicking was something that had to be involuntary. Waaaaay Too Fast. I don't believe she was in control with that. ..."

I agree. That was completely involuntary. She didn't even know she was doing it, imo.

It was more like an eye twitch than the self-soothing behavior of an autistic person. If you didn't know better, you'd have thought that she was starting to have a seizure.

It clearly was a reaction to stress, but we've seen her stressed before, many times, and nothing like that's been seen.

Certainly possible that it's been edited out, but it was so involuntary that I would think that it would be hard to catch every single instance and edit it out.

Very peculiar. I've never seen anything like it.

OK, not to belabor the tongue flicking thing, but ;-)
I found the clip on YouTube and didn't realize that Kate also did this strange tongue thing before she went up in the air, and it seemed totally involuntary and very much related to an intensely stressful situation for her.
It's just very odd.
Whatever it is, I just don't get pushing your body to the extremes of stress and fear like this. It's dangerous, really. If I were the guy on the tower jump, or even this guy on the boat, I'd make the call to stop when someone is presenting in such extremis.
I'm serious. I would be very wary of someone passing out or having a cardiac event.
Kate looked awful in both examples, from beginning to end.
I *think* I'd like to try parasailing, but if I'm honest with myself, would probably chicken out.
But, I'd be totally OK with that. I have no need to compete with anyone or anything, or let anyone tell me what I need to fulfill my life.

================

I'm not so sure about that. She knows the hot water she got herself into when she publicized his departure, and how criticized she's been for having sent him away and having the best birthday party ever without him. Saying something even generic would open her up to more negative comments, speculation, and whatever. Yes, she opened a can of worms, but in this case it just might be better to close it and say nothing at all.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I responded to your incredibly rude comment that it was likely a self-soothing behavior that "someone immature or with autism would do." Note that your list included two possibilities. You are only now throwing in anxiety because you got called on it. And yes, you ARE judging when you describe something as "immature."

&&&

You are taking this FAR too literally. Good lord. If I notice your hair is wet and I say well it's either wet because you just took a shower, or jumped in the pool, that doesn't mean I'm EXCLUDING all the other reasons your hair could be wet. For all I know you just did the ice bucket challenge. I'm not ruling that out just because I fail to mention it. It's just a manner of speaking. I AGREE With you, she MAY have anxiety. I don't know and neither do you. She also could be part snake, I can't rule that out either just because I fail to mention it.

I don't care if you read the recaps or not, but don't start arguing over something I clearly described in the recap without even reading it. It wastes everyone's time.

We're just talking here, not writing a scientific thesis that requires such rigid precision. Incidentally, people that insist on such precision in their conversations could be displaying signs of being on the spectrum. And there's nothing wrong with that, but don't be upset when others don't speak like that or are confused why they are taken so literally.

As far as Kate having anxiety, do people with anxiety typically book parasailing outings for them to go on? That doesn't make a whole lotta sense. Either she doesn't have anxiety and this is all for show and attention, or she is a doofus with anxiety.

I'm still not judging self-soothing behaviors. I'm only judging Kate. Don't like it, she need not put herself on TV and such problems would be solved for her.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Oh and another reason I think her "anxiety" is a bunch of fooey?

If you READ my recap you would see how she went into a really long explanation about how she didn't want to be pressured into doing this.

Yet, the reality was it was just the opposite. She wasn't pressured. No one even was concerned with her. And in fact, when Ike saw she was getting uncomfortable, he wanted to unbuckle her and abort her flight and said so (as Tucker suggested a good instructor should do.) So the OPPOSITE happened, she was encouraged NOT to go up if it was upsetting her so. She created this situation all by herself, which I find impossible to believe someone who truly has anxiety would do, absent in the context of some kind of therapeutic treatment under the supervision of service providers (i.e. people afraid of flying who intentionally get on an airplane)

Thanks for the recap. Another riveting episode. I am not a big pet person in general. But one of my problems is I don't want to get up in the morning to walk a dog, I don't want to clean a litter box, etc. I know pets need care and I can't be bothered. Kate has no business owning dogs. They should be walked. I bet they would run with her if she still did that. Even I know just yelling the same word over and over to a dog teaches them nothing.

I would never go parasailing. I might enjoy the boat ride. Of course she could have let the kids have fun and no one would have cared if she just said no thank you. But she has to be the center of attention. The tongue thing is weird. It doesn't sound very flattering. I'm surprised she doesn't make up some excuse for it.

Does Kate read here? After we talked about the storm, she put up a pic for the tornado watch that could have been taken any time doing anything. I get scared when we have a warning but I checked and Berks had a watch. Does Kate watch news or read weather reports? That surprises me. We've had other terrible storms where she just said Shoka loves it outside.

The food thing is disturbing. I truly hope she doesn't starve them but I am suspicious. There is no way that all 7 kids want or need the exact same amount of food at a meal. Poor kids.

On Monday night, University of Virginia beat UNC at Charlottesville, good game but low score, defense!
And Virginia Tech beat Miami at Blacksburg va. Very exciting game!
Whoever gets into NCAA conference tournament depends somewhat on conference championships and placement. That said, UVA and I hope VA Tech will be in tourney. VCU had been at the top of the Atlantic 10 Conference all season and should go to NCAA. They play Dayton, conference leaders also, at Dayton on Wednesday night, that will be a fun game to watch, both teams are tough and great players.

FYI, Kate said in her IG that it was a tornado "watch". I guess she doesn't know the difference between a watch and a warning, or she just decided she needed a reason to picture Alexis and imply the rest of the kids were in the basement and not with Jon.

I firmly believe TFW did that People cover as an 'FU' to Jon. See, I am in control of the kids and you have no idea what's going on and can't do anything about it. In almost every interview she gave, she was asked about it and got that sadistic smile on her face when she admitted he didn't know where Collin was. I don't think TFW would have mentioned the situation if Jon knew what was going on.

Knowledge is power-and control-to Kate. She was giddy over the notion that she has the power to do whatever she wants with the kids, and Jon not only doesn't have a say, but she's delighted in keeping him out of the loop and utterly helpless to do anything.

The excuse that if she told Jon, somehow he'd leak the news (for personal gain or not), was utter bullshite.
It's laughable, really, when this is the woman who splashed the news of Collin's exile (and the twins fracture with Jon) on the front of People magazine.

So I watched some of the Duggars show last night and made a couple of observations.
** Gingers husband - He seems like the only SIL (so far) who doesn't act like he's going to be JB's puppet or lawn boy. He seemed very kind and witty, mature and acts like he'll stand up for himself, so that was kinda nice. Jessa's husband Ben makes me wanna hurl.
** They were in Sydney and had taken a water taxi over to another harbor. Their guide was taking them around different spots along to way, just to point them out as a good guide should. Ginger apparently gets motion sick, so not too long after they left she started to feel sick and was such a good sport about trying to not throw up or be rude to the guide. She kept whispering little things to her husband about how she's trying to hold it together but was struggling and he finally, very politely asked the guide to just take them straight to the harbor bc she wasn't feeling well.
**They visited some kind of animal sanctuary and Ginger noted how wonderful their guide was. She nor her husband didn't shriek or scream around the animals, they were gentle and soft spoken as not to startle the animals.
**The went to a fish market and picked out a bunch of seafood native to the area seas and didn't make faces or hold their noses. She tried raw fish and you could tell she wasn't a fan (by the look on her face) but she nicely said she enjoyed it.
**Afterwards they had a private chef help them prepare all the food and lo-and-behold, the chef actually sat down an ate with them!

My point is, they acted grateful for the opportunity, made note about how kind everyone was, actually engaged with them (can you imagine Kate eating with the 'hired help'?) There was no shrieking, screaming, teeth gnashing, yelling, downgrading the people there to assist them. Just kindness. Here is a young 20 something newlywed that has, yes, grown up with privilege and money and has traveled many other places but acted a million times more mature than spoiled, unappreciative, bratty Kate and her spoiled, unappreciative, bratty kids. I can not imagine Mady acting the way Ginger did because she hasn't been taught to act that way or show the proper way to act. It's like night and day. Kate has not done any kind of service to her kids. At all.

I'm not a Duggar fan but I did want to point out the stark contracts between the two.

PS...looking at the weird tongue thrusting of Kate's on that boat. Look at the flicking/thrusting *before* she goes up, when she's really panicking. You can't possibly mimic the hyperkinetic movement, so I think it was involuntary.

I think Kate really was scared, but pressures herself into doing these things because she's committed to doing it with production. I think it makes it harder to back out when you've got 3 cameras trained on you.
That said, Kate should cut this crap out. Eh, too late at this point, really. She's broken down so many times, the harm to her kids is done.
Asking a 12-year old to ensure that you're going to be kept safe is really awful. Not only does it ruin their very fun moment, but the pressure to parent Kate stays with them always.
Kate just sucked the fun out of the whole thing and those kids have to supplant their free-wheeling joy over the activity with the need to worry about their mother and make sure she's OK.

I think it's unfair to expect the Gosselin kids to act polite, grateful and whatever else. First of all, their role model is Kate. Second of all, these are traumatised children: filmed since early infancy, beaten by their mother, alienated from their father, in an unstable environment after the divorce, full of fights and denigration and paparazzi. Add to that their mother's general attitude towards them, the challenges some some of them have been facing(C and A were expelled from kindergarten) and you really cannot expect appropriate response. Not while nothing in their environment changes. I find it cruel to criticise the kids. We are not talking about children raised in a normal/appropriate family setting, we are talking about these particular children whose lives have been hard, despite the mansion they live in. I think I've said some of these things before but really, it bothers me when people call them spoiled brats, ungrateful and so on. Just because they live in a mansion and have expensive clothes, it doesn't mean their lives aren't hard. Just because children in Africa are starving, it doesn't mean the G kids' problems are insignificant.

Mama June's new show got 1.423 million viewers (on a Friday, which is a tough night for cable shows), and was the #5 rated cable show that day. That's better than K+8 (or many other TLC shows) has done in years. Like I said before, TLC just lacks the vision to try something new to revive interest in their shows. They keep sticking to the old, tired scripts while their viewership nosedives. They really missed the mark with Leah Remini. Her show about Scientology was amazing.

kris (62),

I'm not a fan of the Duggars, but you're right--you never see them acting disrespectful or ungrateful. They seem to have been taught to respect and appreciate others. Something the Gs (Kate or the kids) never do. None of them seem to be able to see beyond him/herself. How sad, because I think those who really appreciate the opportunities they are given tend to enjoy those opportunities so much more.

I spent a few days recently with the family in PA, and was so impressed with my teenage niece. She had been wanting a Canada Goose parka for a long time, and finally got one. Once she realized that the fur trim on the hood was real, though, she wrote a letter to the company about it. She pointed out that many people do not support the use of real fur, and requested that they offer their coats either without the fur or with faux fur. The trim is removable, but the customer still has to buy the coats with the trim. And she enclosed the trim from her own coat. I was so proud of her! She has the courage of her convictions, and she's not afraid to stand up for what she believes is right. Her parents have always stressed to their kids that they should be kind (to others, to animals, etc), respectful, and grateful. What she did is a refection of how she has been raised. It's sad that so many kids these days are raised to be entitled and self-absorbed.

I totally understand what you are saying. They have no positive role model or someone to teach them how to behave but the fact is they are mocking her behavior and that sadly, is how they'll be depicted. It's very sad.

Thank you for remembering my son! He is doing really well. He went back to college, is working, and is in a really good place right now. It was hard for him to accept that he is disabled, but he has learned to adjust and is moving forward with his life's plans. He is proud to have had the privilege of serving his country, despite the injury. He's my hero.

Yes, my niece is a very special girl. I call her our "fashionista with a conscience". I recently bought some sheepskin throw pillows for my family room (they're so soft!) and the first thing she said was, "They're faux sheepskin, right?". Of course they are--I'm an animal lover, too!

Sad but true said...

According to their FB page, it looks like the Busbys may be back on the air in June. From what they've said on their page, they've been filming almost continuously since their last season aired. And from what K8 hasn't said, it looks like she's not been filming at all.

Whatever happens, it appears that K8's TLC episodes are destined to be many fewer and much more infrequent than either the Busbys or the Duggars. That can't be making for much happy time over at the compound.

Layla said...

There's a new show on TLC that's airing next Tuesday. I think it was called "She's The Boss". It seems that TLC is still trying to bring in new shows which may have the chance of being successful. Goodness knows some of their old, stale programming (**K+8**) is far past its expiration date and will never get good ratings. I hope they are successful in finding a solid lineup. That's the only chance the G kids have of reclaiming their lives.

Roxy Helen, I agree the kids have no way of knowing what we think of as acceptable behavior. I am sure it is difficult to live with Kate. I believe she still punishes them harshly for all sorts of imaginary infractions. But I suspect TLC also plays it up and makes sure we see plenty of complaining. That whole Alabama trip was so exhausting that any kid would be on edge. I guess it's a fine line. Are we picking on the kids or pointing out how Kate and TLC have failed them?

Another great recap Admin. Thank you for saving me from watching the show for myself. I only checked out the Youtube clip of TFW blubbering & carrying on while they were parasailing . What an idiot! Why do it at all if you're scared sh**l*ss?

Anyone watching "Big Little Lies" on HBO? I read the book & am really enjoying the show. The actresses are perfect in their roles as helicoptering mothers of 5 or 6 year olds. Having it set in Malibu doesn't hurt either.

Also, the British version of "Broadchurch" starts again on Sunday.

Shows that are worthwhile to watch...who needs Kate plus 7 or 8?

FlimsyFlamsy said...

jolie Jacquelyn (#85), always glad to see you up on the verandah! I'm not watching "Big Little Lies," but it sounds intriguing. It's amazing how many movie stars have now come to TV. It used to be seen as a step down career-wise, but the caliber of some of these shows is attracting major talent.

I didn't watch so can't really comment if her eye rolls were different, but the eye rolls, IMO, are immature and exaggerated. In regards to her body language, the way she has carried her hands has always been different. The flopping and splaying her hands when talking is different. If she's suffering from tardive dyskinesia and it's worse during stress, you would think she'd retire from filming.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Tucker's Mom (#98), it's now March, and only 2 months until the tups become teenagers. And C has lived almost a year of his life away from his family, and his siblings have lived almost a year without him. As I've said before, I doubt TFW has taken the time to check in with each child to see how this loss has impacted him/her, and to help get them through this ongoing difficult time. They are not a pack of 7 -- they each have their own individual relationship with their brother, and are experiencing the loss in a unique way. Yes, it's a loss for them. It's not a brother going to college, or archery camp, or even a short hospital stay for an illness. Their brother, who lived with them 24/7, is GONE.

And that brings me back to the WTF of TFW's puppypalooza love fest posts. How does she even have the attention to invest in this over-the-top damage control nonsense, when she has a child away from home, and 7 other children struggling with the fracture of their family?

Sad but true said...

FlimsyFlamsy said... 97

Except Brownie writes chick lit aimed at teen girls and she self-publishes. The only reason K8 would "write" (I use the word loosely, lol) a book is for the perqs---you know, book tours with Steve, lots of signings away from the kids, etc. She has to know by now that another book venture would be unlikely to generate the kind of financial windfall she enjoyed with the book Beth Carson wrote; all of her books after that were abject failures from a publisher's perspective.

I don't doubt that she's explored this sort of venture, but short of a gossipy tell-all where she reveals reality TV trade secrets and comes clean about Steve, I can't imagine there'd be a market for anything coming from her. I truly think her brand is tarnished beyond redemption at this point.

Amen. This is YET ANOTHER major life-altering event. I can't imagine heaping the loss of a sibling (to wherever) on top of their parents' divorce.
Divorce alone can shake a child's world to the very core.
I imagine that Kate told the kids Collin would be back before they knew it, and has been stringing them along ever since.

I hope Jon is involved and seeing Collin, and hopefully arranging contact between Collin and his siblings.

Dmasy said...

Flimsy Flamsy (101) -- thank you for writing exactly what I think.

TLC stinks said...

Blowing, even if they are only body tics, it means something is going on with her. Anyone who has been around someone with body tics, stress makes it worse. Perhaps, if it's not symptomsfrom medication, the custody trial and the Collin situation has taken it's toll. She's more of a mess now than ever before. Just my intuition, but I think Steve is now only involved with her professionally because if he testified truthfully at the custody trial, he's toast to her emotionally. He was the closest human being to her for years, longer than she was married to Jon.

It doesn't matter that Brownie's genre is teen novels; she could write about anything and Kate cannot without help. It's no coincidence that Brownie was on the show. How many years have we seen this modus operandi from Kate?

Sad but true said...

____

Well, fiction is Brownie's thing, so if they're going to devise a narrative about C and his issues, or about anything else, for that matter, I guess she would suffice. I do not believe that whatever K8 might put out there for public consumption would either be well-researched and thought-out OR bear much resemblance to the truth.

Jamesvader1194 said...

I could understand the people who think Kate wouldn't dare to do an PEOPLE interview update on Collin cause the last one.She actually thought the public would be ok with her sending Collin away and people would relate to it,yet judging by the ratings last season, she pretty much shot herself in the foot.I think like sad but true said,if she's done for in filming, then i don't see PEOPLE doing anything.Unless Kate Coyne REALLY loves Kate and is desperate for Kate to get back in the public eye.On the other hand if C isn't recovering from whatever issues he has, then that could be another reason for her to keep her mouth shut.

Mel said...

The eye rolling is immature, annoying behavior. The hand flapping is odd; something's off there. Getting to the outside edge of normal.

The tongue flicking is far beyond either the eye rolling or hand flapping, way into the bizarre realm, far past normal and way into something is very wrong with her.

Lily said...

I'm guessing that due to the custody hearing or other legal things going on that Kate isn't allowed to talk about Collin's situation. She hasn't said anything about him since her little mini publicity tour which didn't go over well. She's probably not happy about that either because her being able to talk about it would make a great (in her mind) cover story...ca-ching!

She said while in the air that she couldn't swim but said she wouldn't die. Why would she say something like that? Was she expecting the kids to save her? Steve to jump in and save her?

I'm not sure I can be convinced ruling out Kate being somewhere on the spectrum. I've never known someone on the spectrum to be so mean and hateful as she is but that may just be a totally different issue for her. Just by googling i found some information about self soothing behavior people with autism exhibit. Here's a quote:

– Clicking teeth or tongue: “when thinking”; “when anxious”.

“I have tongue clicking when I’m nervous around people, I have to walk around when I’m nervous, and I stamp my feet and twitch my neck when I’m having a really bad time.”

– O.J., adult Aspie from Norway

She doesn't click her tongue, though. Isn't that when you make a clicking sound with your tongue on the roof of your mouth when you're deliberating about something? Kate's a flicker, but I would imagine that it also might apply.

She's not on the spectrum, IMO. I know some people on the spectrum.

I tend to believe her behavior and physical oddities are psychological and there's evidence that being bipolar, narcissistic, or schizophrenic can be inherited, thus perhaps Collin's issues. Just a guess on my part. Collin, even as a toddler, was different from the rest.

I'd never seen it prior to this episode and I don't remember anyone talking about it either, however the twins commented during the episode that TFW sometimes does it as she's becoming more and more upset with the kids (IMO, meaning when she's about to lose control).

I think it's an uncontrollable, abnormal, physical reaction directly related to stress and it probably goes hand in hand with her other mental problems. I wonder if she's aware of it when it's happening, although I don't think she has any control over it.

I think we saw this stress overload, or whatever it is, building when they were trying to kayak and she was so short with and rude to the kids and the guide. I think we were seeing her begin to lose control and panic due to fear and stress and it probably wouldn't have taken much to put her over the top.

The more I think about it, I wonder if her rudeness and poor treatment of so many people is a very low level reaction to stress and it's being manifested verbally, but if the stress escalated or continued it would be seen physically? I'll bet if she'd ever gotten therapy she'd have learned ways to manage her stress, to possibly not have the dyskinesia, and to raise her children without resorting to physically abusing them.

I think we all know ways for her to manage it though - like avoiding things that put so much stress on her such as extreme heights, swimming/boating, and getting therapy for her anger issues and healthy parenting!

And learn to swim!
I don't think I ever realized just how incompetent Kate is in the water. I assumed she never wants to get her hair wet.
But, what's been revealed this season is that Kate can't fend for herself, let alone help her kids, in the water.
I'm guessing (hoping) that all the times the kids go in the pool at home, there is hired help there to watch them since she's unable to swing into action in the event of an emergency or accident.
It's mind boggling.

Tucker's Mom said...

I have only seen clips of Kate kayaking, but she seemed unhinged by the activity, which is concerning.
Maybe it relates to her fear of water, but she was undone by it, with the screaming and needing help and inexplicably not being able to coordinate simple paddling.
Seriously, this is a woman who can run a marathon?

Sad but true said...

Maybe this spring break will be one of those famous Gosselin "staycations" that K8 blogged about when she was working for Coupon Cabin (or was it The Stir?). If they're really alternating weekends/vacations now, technically this would be Jon's custody weekend (he had them over Presidents' Day).

TLC stinks said...

You know, I used to think all that all that screaming and crying was a put- on and exaggeration for the camera, but she hasn't one ounce of true acting ability, so perhaps this is the only way to convince the audience by putting herself in terribly uncomfortable situations to be filmed. The kids are not only in a science experiment, but so is she. Her emotions are hair trigger and totally not normal. This is way worse than I imagined because I had hoped she was more calm without cameras, but now I think those kids are subjected to her crazy all the time.

Oh, BTW, I wonder if she did the tongue flicking in that helicopter ride with Vann, LOL. No wonder the dude said Buh Bye.

Kate's eyes on the avatar are full throttle and TLC wants everyone to post what do you think?

I will tell you what I think! A judge had to sign a court order to force her to stop sending moldy food day after day because they haven't ate the food.

Why would someone from TLC do this? Did someone have a fallout with the queen?

jmcfallpaynecongrats.

Jon has very steady work and looks like bigger and better things are around the corner! And he doesn't waste his money on buying likes. He doesn't need to. There is no telling how many thousands of dollars she spent all the years she was on Twitter for followers and now likes on Instagram.

Looks like her reality tv career is finally over and Jon is now starting to throttle up.

Jon's DJ career certainly seems stable, if not growing steadily at this point. Great for him!

This same item is also posted on TLC's own FB page, and no doubt many others that they run. They do this a lot. Unless the post is K8-specific, it generally appears in multiple places.

Well, of course not! Never in a million years would she post a current picture. I don't check her IG, but what photo did she post of her son driving? I remember some time ago she tweeted a picture showing the back of her kids, and her son was quite a bit taller than her daughter and her daughter had blond hair and was very slender.

Seriously, this is a woman who can run a marathon?

****************

Nope. Has to have Scooter Steve shuffle her around on a scooter to the checkoff points so she will have a great time.

She has to excel in every competition. Even winning over her own kids in gaga ball, the archery game, the pumpkin smashing, grabbing the first set of puppies and naming them and she has to win against adults in marathon races.

Can anyone figure out why Milo is putting pictures up now? of her supposedly family? If this was 2011, the dog in the picture is never mentioned since "milo & Jack" has been around that I know of, she has only talked about the one big dog and cat (her screen names) and the Kate dog she got later. Why does she have to give my brain a reason to wonder about her or him?? I should not care because in the long run it doesn't matter!!

TLC stinks said...

Yeah, that dachshund has never been mentioned, even as a pet that passed. According to twitter she joined 4/4/11.

LOL!
I don't think those are Milo's kids. JMO, but she's posted these kids before, and they never grow up.
I think she's a senior with the health problems that can go along with.
Those kids might be her grands, or neighbors.
Unless she had kids later in life, I don't think they are hers.

I remember Milo tweeting about how brokenhearted she was when her dachshund died because I had a dachshund at the time. The tweet was several years ago.

Milo is a cunning devil she finally realizes that even negative activity is positive advertising for her beloved Kate and she's willing to show pictures of her (?) children to bring haters back to Kate Twitter Feed even though she always said she never would because they were once stalked by a predator in 'real life'. *This* shows how far she would go for Kate. She's more terrified of never seeing Kate on TV again than of her own family being in danger. (If what she once said was true)

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Tucker's Mom (#158), I won't click on the picture, but I think Gladys gets quite a charge out of the attention. She probably posted it and came right over here to see if there were any comments. And I bet she especially likes it if we poke fun at her, because then she gets to be a martyr for
the cause. Brave Gladys, suffering the slings and arrows for her lady love. A
woman who wouldn't spit on her if she was on fire.

Tucker's Mom said...

Kate is probably filming, so Milo could post a naked selfie with her hair on fire, and Kate would be too busy getting her narc fill to care, let alone respond.

Totally agree. I've always thought there were many catfish red flags and that she could easily be swiping photos from a sister's or neighbors Facebook. Can you imagine if she were ever caught?

One thing I have noticed about Milo is (I can’t click to see who her followers are so I am not 100% sure of my assumptions), all the comments that are posted on her Instagram pictures are from people intertwined with Kate (her friends and followers) None seem to be a real life family or friends so that would mean to me this a “fake” person because is she embarrassed to let her real friends and family know how she is so head over heals in love with Kate, (lol, her lights out man doesn’t seem to care so I don’t think he is real either). If she was for real she would have tangible people post on her pictures that really actually know her. Your kids, relatives, co workers people who are real, none of her posters are from the real world they are all tied to Kate somehow. So I guess that’s what bugs me about her I don’t mean her any harm just who the heck is she/he and why the bizarre love or infatuation with Kate. What possible thing could she literally take from any program she watched and think she is the best thing since butter! To want to breath the same air as her if she could! Oh well shake my head again to get rid of thoughts of her that DO NOT MATTER!!! Everyone have a good weekend!

NJGal51 said...

In all the videos that Milo posts where there is talking, she sounds like a mature southern woman. She doesn't sound "old/old" to me, just not young. Her pictures are all pretty consistent. Her kids & pets or relatives kids and pets...who knows. I don't know why no one has been able to ferret out her identity.

Fleecing The Sheeple said...

Look, Gladys was cunning enough to craft this "aw shucks" Southern gal persona, yet time after time is caught letting it go, and showing she's as snotty as they come.

================

And sometimes she's missing her "g's" and other times they miraculously appear, and yes, she's as under-handed, sneaky and two-faced as they come. Manly looking woman, isn't she?

I wonder if there's a reason TLC put this post up on the K8 FB page on the first day of the kids' spring break.

I will continue to be suspicious about Gladys' identity primarily because I find absolutely nothing in what she tweets that makes me think she's a mother. I believe she has pets, but a husband and kids? Not really sure about that.

Milo has consistently shown nothing but indifference (at best) for the G kids.
A bowl of hair would show more concern for the kids than Milo.
Nope. It's all about Kate, all the time.

So funny!

Came across a pasta salad recipe with the name,
Mean Woman Pasta Salad. All I could think of was TFW's obsession of salads the 1/4 teaspoons of feta cheese and Steve doesn't eat salads! lol

From the article:

I learned that there were only fresh and zesty ingredients in the pasta salad, and its name still remains a mystery to me. This salad is anything but mean and it tastes great. Plus, it is very easy to make. Maybe it earned its name because some lady refused to make a fattening dessert for her man and made this healthy pasta salad instead. LOL! Whatever the case, this salad is such a crowd-pleaser, any family member will love it.

Milo is getting bold posting those pictures. Teens change some in appearance, but not enough that you'd not recognize them as they are today. Somebody out there may ID those kids. And if I were those kids, I'd be pissed she posted that photo on her I ❤️ Kate Blog.

=============

But conversely, one has no reason to believe that she is who she says she is! Catfishers, especially good ones, may have their craft down to a science.

What made the whole thing subject to speculation for me is her fascination with Kate's body, how Kate "envisions" her and what Kate expects in a prospective suitor. Then there was the inquisitive tweet about which kid needed new underwear. I mean, what woman does that?

Either she's who she says she is and is a very odd person, or an elderly man, Or maybe just a weird elderly woman. It's up for grabs. Not literally, of course!

Whatever it is, the name Gladys Kravitz certainly fits.

@BPD Just my opinion, the problem i have with believing that she is who she said she is,is that she claimed that she has family and a few friends .If she has lots of family and friends then it not only wouldn't make sense as to why she tries so hard to be in Kate's circle of friends and tries to befriend anyone who is Kate's friend. But i remember a specific tweet where she pretty much said she considers the Gosselins like family. Why would she tweet these strange things if she has family and friends?

Joy-Anna Duggar is engaged. TLC must be ecstatic. More weddings and endless babies to film. The Duggar girls seem like they can't wait to get married and get out of that house. Maybe they're tired of raising their mother's babies and would rather raise their own.

Tucker's Mom said...

Interesting observation that Milo's social media is inhabited by zero personal contacts and just those entities connected to Kate.
You'd think a friend or family member would chime in, especially on a photo of her kids!

Because Kate is a celebrity and Kate's friends are not unknowns. Some people like that association, being able to say that they are friends with such-and-such, television personalities and whatever. It makes them feel important and they love the attention from someone "famous." Milo's own family and friends, if she has any, can't fill that need for recognition and attention.

Tucker's...I think perhaps she did have friends and others in her own circle, but she became so annoying that they distance themselves from her. Remember the neighbors who pulled out in the middle of the night? Who wants to have a Gladys busy-body meddling in their affairs and peering in their windows? I would think that even those people she knows would soon get tired of that. I wonder if, when getting her hair cut or going to the grocery store, her conversation always turns to Kate, how well she knows her, and so forth. I think that would get pretty darn old really fast and people would want to avoid her.

It's possible Milo has another Twitter account to tweet with family and friends, or maybe, like me, she prefers to use the telephone or texting. Maybe she doesn't want family/friends to see what she tweets to Kate.

Those Duggar girls must be under so much pressure to marry. At least if they get married, they only have to share a room with one person. I just don't like that we are glamourizing raising children with little education and no real choices in life.

Sheepless In Seattle said...

She said that she and Kate communicate in many ways, so she more than likely messages Kate. Whether or not Kate responds, who knows? For the close relationship Milo says that she has with Kate, she certainly asks a lot of questions and really doesn't seem to know what's going on.

I can't imagine someone like Gladys having my phone number. Just thinking about the calls and texts I'd be getting would give me a headache.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Jeanne (#189), it's a sad racket this family has going. Pa Duggar finds a beau for one of his daughters, and starts the courting process. TLC chronicles the whole deal. Guaranteed People Magazine cover story for the wedding months later, and another one for the baby within a year. Raising smart, confident, well-rounded young women has never seemed to be a priority Chez Duggar. The only habit that seems
to be cultivated is grifting.

Tucker's Mom said...

****
Amen. You get not even a high school equivalent education, marry early, have no job or career and aim to have as many babies as possible, and your life will look NOTHING like these Duggar girls' lives.
You won't be rich, be on the cover of magazine and travel the world.
You will most likely be struggling to make end meet your entire life.
The Duggars ARE glamorizing their lifestyle, when at its most basic, it's an oppressive, women-subjugating, patriarchal cult that aims to keep women barefoot and pregnant, without means, without education and without choices.

TLC stinks said...

I agree that she uses other social accounts for personal use. Her MiloandJack accounts (FiredUpForKate) are just fan accounts, I believe. She originally got validation years ago as a member of Baby Mama's blog community.

I don't believe for a minute she has a job outside of the home but gets her social interaction and validation strictly from being a Kate fan who disturbingly believes she's in Kate's inner circle. It's going to get worse, if indeed, she really has children who will leave or have left home. You couple that with living on isolated property, health issues that keep you homebound and no neighbors to interact with while her husband works and you can see the evolution of her infatuation of a D lister like Kate.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

&&&

I agree. And it's just that glamorizing that is white washing the truth of living like this. For example, the fear-mongering over trangendered bathrooms due to ignorance. The abusive child rearing methods. The sexual repression that has various consequences. As well, the incompetence and ignorance displayed when dealing with their son who is a child predator, and their lack of ability to protect their other children. These events and their reactions to them are all related to their lifestyle, it didn't just happen that way by accident.

Live and let live and all that, but don't glamorize the downside of this lifestyle.

On another note, the average person who lives the isolated, uneducated lifestyle that they have is not going to be able to live as high on the hog as they do. They are in a unique set of circumstances that has provided an unlikely and rare path to a lot of money. So they're also white washing the way such ignorance and isolation generally leads to poverty.

TLC stinks said...

Flimsy, exactly! The Duggars are running a racket with TLC as the enabler. It sickens me that them, plus the others who have multiples, are misleading the gullible.
