That's another reason the kids are so immature, because they are rewarded and encouraged to be immature. Normal parents reward and praise children for being more grown-up and normal parents generally discourage babyish behavior at their ages. Kate though discourages maturity, so why would they bother?

I never said she was a hoarder, nor did I say that all clutter is the result of mental illness. I simply said clutter CAN be a way that mental illness manifests itself, and since we know she's mentally ill, it's reasonable to remark on the various ways it might be manifesting. That's one way, another way is her stalking around outside Jon's house and calling the cops three times like a maniac until he returns their daughter, then turning right around and letting the kids decide if they want to visit Jon--that's messed up. At the end of the day I have no idea whether her clutter is related to her racing thoughts and mental illness, or whether she's just a genuine slob. But I do think a strong clue it IS related to her mental health is the very fact that she's in complete denial she does it, which is common in the mentally ill. In fact she says just the opposite, that she's organized and OCD. You don't find that just a bit odd?

I agree FlimsyFlamsy. She really does think that she is a model parent. And I'm not saying that I am, or that anyone else here thinks they are either. We all screw up, are in bad moods, get frustrated, etc. But she takes up to a level that definitely is scary to me - imagine how it feels to those kids.

You don't even need to explain that. This goes so far and beyond the acceptable bounds of giving parents the benefit of the doubt. This goes so far beyond people just being human and making mistakes as humans do. There's flawed people, and then there's bad people. She's bad.
I really feel strongly that we can't look the other way on some mistakes and she's made the kind you can't excuse.
I don't really want to get into the "what age is okay to leave a child home alone" debate, but I don't think leaving a preteen child with behavioral and emotional issues home alone is a good idea.

One of them went private...not sure what happened there, and they killed off another person, the third one, I believe. This time it is the girl who was pregnant with one woman's husband. Mother-to-be died, but the baby survived. Now the woman has to raise the illegitimate child of her estranged husband.
These characters should be writing scripts for daytime television.

Tucker's Mom (#18), I think like any good narcissist, TFW can turn on the charm when she wants something. And she was probably just nice enough with Em to get her on board for some babysitting.
But I bet she bristled when Em got some attention on Twitter after being on the show. Remember the nanny hiring episode of J&K+8 when there was a pretty blonde they tried out, and TFW nixed the girl after her tryout, saying she was too aware of the camera (pot, meet kettle)? To me, she clearly felt threatened.
I remember Em to be fairly upbeat on Twitter. That passive aggressive post was unusual. And it's one heck of a coincidence that happened the day such big news came out about Collin. I don't know, I tend to think it was about that.
Two more things about last nights show: the total Costco bill was $1295 and change. She was pulling things off the shelf left and right. Also, she gave some complicated explanation of only having a few laptops but then went on and on about who had an IPad and how she was required to get a business account because of all the data. Those kids have worked for the right to each have the computers they need for school. I understand limiting your kids time on the Internet, but this was very convoluted and made no sense. And the lists! Oy, the lists!
I have screen shoots of the Em debacle. So I'll have to paraphrase since I can't post screen shots.
It all started when Em was tired of seeing all the negativity being hurled at Kate and she was trying to defend Kate and herself.
"Lifeelevated" (that Cow person) posted Em's DMs and in them Em explained that she went on the trip to help with the kids because Kate couldn't get any help for that trip. She said Kate trusted her with the "kid's" prescriptions" because "her" and Steve couldn't do it all.
She said the haters should know that the kids are well cared for by her when Kate and Steve have "alone time." She said she was asked for help by Kate and wasn't paid.
She said Kate needs help with some kids more than others, that behavior issues and meds require extra hands and that Steve helps too.
TFW has always been a selfish narcissist, putting herself first at every turn, but if you look at the list of people she has disposed of, it is quite frightening. The fact that her own child Colin is institutionalized, Cara barely speaks, Alexis often looks frustrated, Hannah wanted to stay with Jon is telling of the toll this has taken on them. Yet she continues filming because it is all about HER and that is never gonna change.
I can't stand the fact that the boys still have not gotten braces. Why are they always second class citizens? More work and less "privileges." I don't think we know the half of it, but I predict many of the kids will run far away from her once they are adults and the truth will come out.
TFW will never have a clue that she has caused all of this. It will always be someone else's fault because they don't know how to help her. Rant done.

Robert made an interesting observation, that when he was reading blogs like this, he KNEW when an insider was posting under another name or "anonymous" because there's no way they could have known what they shared, other than first hand.

I don't know. Tbh, while I do think Em cares about the kids after getting to know them, something about it only makes it seem like she just wanted to be on the show. And she was in no position to mention that kind of information to a stranger. But I personally think she backed off with the worshipping due to everything that is going on and with Kate not acknowledging her anymore. Once Andrea came back into the picture, there was no more Em. Who knows what happened. All I know is, if that tweet was about Collin then at least she recognizes something wasn't right with sending him away.
It's too bad Em accepted the job for free too. Pathetic. The idea that they told her they couldn't find anyone to do it is really ridiculous. It's that they wanted to save a buck. They could find someone, but they'd have to pay. Be a grown up, call up a nanny agency in Philadelphia, pay the placement fee, and get an experienced professional in there to care for your kids, especially when at least one has special needs. Any decent nanny agency could have someone in your house within the week, maybe less. Yeah, big surprise, individualized childcare costs money. Don't like it don't have kids or better yet rebuild some friendships with Jodi and Beth and ask them to help you on the trip.
I was thinking that as well. He has always been the one to challenge her authority. But, he could have a disability. I guess the only way we will ever find out what was truly wrong is from Collin himself and that probably won't even happen until he's 18.
I am from a family of 12 kids. No way did my parents shop like that and we ate healthy and the home was always clean. We all had chores to do to help keep it that way. We did not have an overloaded stock room like Kate. Even cleaning products expire. My parents did the shopping once a week except for milk and bread during the week that we would go to the store on our bikes and purchase. That was true gluttony and not realistic at all on her part.

Let's remember that Em is a theater major and being on the show was an opportunity for her to get something on her resume which is sometimes better than being paid. From what I've seen on Twitter and IG Em tends to have weird idol worship for older women (actresses/singers, her acting coach). Em is also a spoiled little rich girl who runs to class in her "pajamas and Coach loafers". Em, like Kate, seems to thrive on attention. She still does "favorite" things on Kate's IG. Em is an interesting study.
Em also seems "close" with that singer Carnie Wilson too. She also follows M, C and their friend on IG (yes, they have social media). I think you nailed it when you said she is trying to build her resume. I noticed last year she made a snide remark after someone mentioned to her that she fulfilled her dreams of meeting the Gosselins. She was probably upset Kate didn't ask her to go on the Florida trip. But who knows 🌚
Jon found $100K in. Ash in the house. Kate said she took it in are she needed it to buy groceries for the kids. Who spends $100K on groceries? Even her massive Costco haul was only $1300.

I call BS. I have a big family, and all of my kids are boys. Even during football and lacrosse seasons, when they were instantly starving, I didn't have to out them on TV to feed them. She's full of it.

All kinds of cool stuff is in the sale, including toothbrushes, batteries, candy, gum, soda, baby wipes -- even a cute pair of black leggings. Hurray for freebies!
In the latest People interview she says, "Doing a reality show honestly feels like the smallest issue we've ever had to deal with". "We've"!! So she is speaking for the children; I wonder if the children feel being followed around by a film crew all your life is a "small issue". I can't wait for their books to come out and they are finally able to express their feelings about their lost childhoods.
Oh yes - the Costco trip was gluttony at it's finest. Admin has a great point about seeing this as 2 families of four. Our family has four, and a BIG Costco shop for us is maybe $350 (keep in mind, we are in Canada, and things are a bit more expensive here than Costco US). An average Costco trip is around $200.

Oh I don't disagree...they also "needed" a bigger house and were looking at McMansions. Not sure what they wound up getting but they kept saying they would "make it work" even though these houses were above their budget. Hello, housing crisis? 3. Is there enough money in the kids' trusts to carry them thru college and into adulthood if the show stops?

For the record, I hope TLC has given/will give her notice that there will be no more filming. I've just never been able to wrap my head around all the grifting she's done and the money she's made--I keep thinking it will run out.

I am still unsure about health insurance for these kids. Are they on CHIP probably? Or does TLC provide it? Some of Colin's treatment could be covered if they have decent insurance. And how do they get dental treatment like orthodontics? Sure, they should have the money, but I don't see Kate spending it on orthodontics rather than her own happiness.
Those kids are immature because their role model is immature. Kate appears stuck at 13 yrs old. But I can never tell what's true. Does she really take the kids to the bus and go back to bed or does she never leave bed at all while the nanny drives? Does she really only eat salads or does she stuff her face (like on CA) and do something to stay skinny like purging or meds? Does she really ever have money troubles or has she stashed away tons for herself while telling the kids there's no money?

This is part of the motivation behind California reform that starts Jan 1. We're basically getting rid of all group homes. All of them. Except for the very highest levels of home for children who need the highest level of services. Seriously mentally ill children, seriously dangerous children.
All other children will be placed with foster families or given in-home services with their own bio families.
Now, whether this will work is anyone's guess, we are scratching our heads here wondering where these foster families are going to come from to help our teens and preteens--but their heart is in the right place and I'm hoping for the best.

No that music has been used in many videos for the challenge. It's called Black Beatles by Rae Sremmurd. No copyright needed. The Busbys weren't the first people to use the music and the concept for the challenge. A group of teens at a high school started the challenge and somehow it went viral.
And she's taking questions, too. Maybe kids (the "usual four" no doubt) have gone to Jon's for the weekend.

I watched the mannequin challenge, and K is certainly not dressed for company, is she? Looks like they spent Thanksgiving alone. And no mess in the kitchen. Yes, she explains their absence in the comment he posted introducing it. I thought the filming sucked, quite frankly, and that was Mady's job. Cara did the music. Which required her not to be seen? I don't think so.
This may well be her last "season" and she's frantically posting IG pictures to show TLC how many likes/comments she gets to prove that she's still popular. I hate to tell her, but when you get a few thousand "likes" in a short time span it indicates that many of them are bought accounts. She is just too thankful to TLC which is unlik her.
I still say if you stop the mannequin recording just as it goes over Joel's shoulder, in the background is a glowing red light (warmer) and it looks like a cage with a light over it (regular light). I think he's alive, just being kept in his cage so the girl doggie can roam free.

I think that the chickens have something to do with Collins absence. Not sure if he actually did something to the chickens that harmed them, or perhaps social services made her get rid of them because it was too much work for the kids to take care of them, or perhaps she was violating some sort of code? I'm just speculating of course, but I bet the absence of both Collin and the chickens is not a coincidence.
I think when Collin left, she did not want to hire someone to take care of the chickens because it wouldn't be economically feasible. She wouldn't of been able to make a profit like she did off Collin.

TLC is still not showing ads for K+8, in spite of Kate's efforts to suck up. They show no interest in promoting it, and probably don't care if the ratings are bad. It looks like they are done. If they haven't told her yet, then she is the last person to know. Same as last time.

Milo's entire universe revolves around Kate. TFW is Milo's reason for living. What happens to someone like Milo if that's taken away and Kate would cut the cord? Can Milo cope? Is the depression that great that there would be consequences not only to Kate, but also to Milo? One just never knows about the mental health of someone like Gladys. How fragile is she? It could have devastating results.
We watched Foxcatcher the documentary over Thanksgiving--not the film. The film didn't even begin to touch on the depth of Dupont's mental illness. There were so many warning signs, and it's tragic nothing was done. I found some of his behaviors remarkably similar to how some of the sheeple behave. For example, Dupont tended to latch on to a particular athlete/celeb at his facility, and would become obsessed with them and demand to be around them all the time. It really was like a fan, only because of his money he was living out a fan fantasy of actually hanging out in real life with the celeb and becoming friends. And then of course, when he perceived that Dave Schultz, his celeb, had turned on him, he killed him.
The documentary did a good job explaining why the guys were so willing to hang around someone so obviously mentally ill, and a big part of it was feeling so sorry for him and his poor social skills, and wanting to do what they could to help him out of kindness and feeling they owed it to him for being their benefactor. What an absolutely preventable tragedy.

I never said she was a hoarder, nor did I say that all clutter is the result of mental illness. I simply said clutter CAN be a way that mental illness manifests itself, and since we know she's mentally ill, it's reasonable to remark on the various ways it might be manifesting. That's one way, another way is her stalking around outside Jon's house and calling the cops three times like a maniac until he returns their daughter, then turning right around and letting the kids decide if they want to visit Jon--that's messed up. At the end of the day I have no idea whether her clutter is related to her racing thoughts and mental illness, or whether she's just a genuine slob. But I do think a strong clue it IS related to her mental health is the very fact that she's in complete denial she does it, which is common in the mentally ill. In fact she says just the opposite, that she's organized and OCD. You don't find that just a bit odd?

I agree FlimsyFlamsy. She really does think that she is a model parent. And I'm not saying that I am, or that anyone else here thinks they are either. We all screw up, are in bad moods, get frustrated, etc. But she takes up to a level that definitely is scary to me - imagine how it feels to those kids.

You don't even need to explain that. This goes so far and beyond the acceptable bounds of giving parents the benefit of the doubt. This goes so far beyond people just being human and making mistakes as humans do. There's flawed people, and then there's bad people. She's bad.
I really feel strongly that we can't look the other way on some mistakes and she's made the kind you can't excuse.
I don't really want to get into the "what age is okay to leave a child home alone" debate, but I don't think leaving a preteen child with behavioral and emotional issues home alone is a good idea.

I just checked for an update on the lives and times of the Church Women.
One of them went private...not sure what happened there, and they killed off another person, the third one, I believe. This time it is the girl who was pregnant with one woman's husband. Mother-to-be died, but the baby survived. Now the woman has to raise the illegitimate child of her estranged husband.
These characters should be writing scripts for daytime television.

I remember Em to be fairly upbeat on Twitter. That passive aggressive post was unusual. And it's one heck of a coincidence that happened the day such big news came out about Collin. I don't know, I tend to think it was about that.
Two more things about last nights show: the total Costco bill was $1295 and change. She was pulling things off the shelf left and right. Also, she gave some complicated explanation of only having a few laptops but then went on and on about who had an IPad and how she was required to get a business account because of all the data. Those kids have worked for the right to each have the computers they need for school. I understand limiting your kids time on the Internet, but this was very convoluted and made no sense. And the lists! Oy, the lists!
I have screen shoots of the Em debacle. So I'll have to paraphrase since I can't post screen shots.
It all started when Em was tired of seeing all the negativity being hurled at Kate and she was trying to defend Kate and herself.
"Lifeelevated" (that Cow person) posted Em's DMs and in them Em explained that she went on the trip to help with the kids because Kate couldn't get any help for that trip. She said Kate trusted her with the "kid's" prescriptions" because "her" and Steve couldn't do it all.
She said the haters should know that the kids are well cared for by her when Kate and Steve have "alone time." She said she was asked for help by Kate and wasn't paid.
She said Kate needs help with some kids more than others, that behavior issues and meds require extra hands and that Steve helps too.
TFW has always been a selfish narcissist, putting herself first at every turn, but if you look at the list of people she has disposed of, it is quite frightening.
The fact that her own child Colin is institutionalized, Cara barely speaks, Alexis often looks frustrated, Hannah wanted to stay with Jon is telling of the toll this has taken on them. Yet she continues filming because it is all about HER and that is never gonna change.
I can't stand the fact that the boys still have not gotten braces. Why are they always second class citizens? More work and less "privileges." I don't think we know the half of it, but I predict many of the kids will run far away from her once they are adults and the truth will come out.
TFW will never have a clue that she has caused all of this. It will always be someone else's fault because they don't know how to help her. Rant done.

I think that over the years, "insiders" who were bound to CAs have spoken out indirectly and anonymously.
Robert made an interesting observation, that when he was reading blogs like this, he KNEW when an insider was posting under another name or "anonymous" because there's no way they could have known what they shared, other than first hand.

I don't know. Tbh, while I do think Em cares about the kids after getting to know them, something about it only makes it seem like she just wanted to be on the show. And she was in no position to mention that kind of information to a stranger. But I personally think she backed off with the worshipping due to everything that is going on and with Kate not acknowledging her anymore. Once Andrea came back into the picture, there was no more Em. Who knows what happened. All I know is, if that tweet was about Collin then at least she recognizes something wasn't right with sending him away.

It's too bad Em accepted the job for free too. Pathetic. The idea that they told her they couldn't find anyone to do it is really ridiculous. It's that they wanted to save a buck. They could find someone, but they'd have to pay. Be a grown up, call up a nanny agency in Philadelphia, pay the placement fee, and get an experienced professional in there to care for your kids, especially when at least one has special needs. Any decent nanny agency could have someone in your house within the week, maybe less. Yeah, big surprise, individualized childcare costs money. Don't like it don't have kids or better yet rebuild some friendships with Jodi and Beth and ask them to help you on the trip.

I am from a family of 12 kids. No way did my parents shop like that and we ate healthy and the home was always clean. We all had chores to do to help keep it that way. We did not have an overloaded stock room like Kate. Even cleaning products expire. My parents did the shopping once a week except for milk and bread during the week that we would go to the store on our bikes and purchase. That was true gluttony and not realistic at all on her part.
What she has done to Collin is disgusting but she will get payback.

Let's remember that Em is a theater major and being on the show was an opportunity for her to get something on her resume which is sometimes better than being paid. From what I've seen on Twitter and IG Em tends to have weird idol worship for older women (actresses/singers, her acting coach). Em is also a spoiled little rich girl who runs to class in her "pajamas and Coach loafers". Em, like Kate, seems to thrive on attention. She still does "favorite" things on Kate's IG. Em is an interesting study.

Jon found $100K in. Ash in the house. Kate said she took it in are she needed it to buy groceries for the kids. Who spends $100K on groceries? Even her massive Costco haul was only $1300.
The reason behind the huge shopping trip was to show the world how expensive it is to feel 8 kids. See, everyone? She HAS to out the kids on tv. A nurse's salary wouldn't even pay for groceries!
I call BS. I have a big family, and all of my kids are boys. Even during football and lacrosse seasons, when they were instantly starving, I didn't have to out them on TV to feed them. She's full of it.
A couple other observations . . . .
Zorro was perched on one of the boys' shoulders during a meal scene.
My attention wandered a bit during the Costco shopping trip, but it seemed she got at least 6 months worth of laundry detergent and other cleaning supplies out of TLC.
There was one close-up of Kate that showed how bad her skin still is after all these years. I think it was paired with a memory shot that also showed a close-up of her face with lots of pimples and blotches. Lots of long shots showing off her anorexic stick figure.
Admin (#47), saving money in creative ways can actually be fun. And I bet TFW could've parlayed that into a successful couponing blog and/or book. But she's been grabbing things with both hands for years, and can't really convince anyone she's sincerely worried about paying for food for her kids' mouths (or whatever bizarre expression she used once).
I just hit my CVS for their Black Friday freebies. I got a ton of stuff for $30 plus tax, and got back $30 in CVS Extra Bucks to spend at the store! They don't expire until Christmas Eve, so I'm sure to use them by then. All kinds of cool stuff is in the sale, including toothbrushes, batteries, candy, gum, soda, baby wipes -- even a cute pair of black leggings. Hurray for freebies!
In the latest People interview she says, "Doing a reality show honestly feels like the smallest issue we've ever had to deal with". "We've"!! So she is speaking for the children; I wonder if the children feel being followed around by a film crew all your life is a "small issue". I can't wait for their books to come out and they are finally able to express their feelings about their lost childhoods.

Oh yes - the Costco trip was gluttony at it's finest. Admin has a great point about seeing this as 2 families of four. Our family has four, and a BIG Costco shop for us is maybe $350 (keep in mind, we are in Canada, and things are a bit more expensive here than Costco US). An average Costco trip is around $200.
She doesn't live in the middle of nowhere with no access to a store in case she has an detergent emergency (I am totally rolling my eyes while I type this).
And even when the kids were little, her whining about things being expensive - then don't buy freaking organic woman! You had 8 kids to feed - not really a time to be concerned with being totally organic. I'm sure they would have been fine with non organic cereal. And OMG, they way she LIED about how much food they consumed. Back when they were toddlers (as she dictated in Multiple Blessings), she claimed they were eating 18 eggs and a loaf and a half of bread, just at breakfast! 1. Is it permanent? Or will we see specials, such as the tups learning to drive and the twins' and tups' 18th birthdays?

3. Is there enough money in the kids' trusts to carry them thru college and into adulthood if the show stops?

I am still unsure about health insurance for these kids. Are they on CHIP probably? Or does TLC provide it? Some of Colin's treatment could be covered if they have decent insurance. And how do they get dental treatment like orthodontics? Sure, they should have the money, but I don't see Kate spending it on orthodontics rather than her own happiness.
Those kids are immature because their role model is immature. Kate appears stuck at 13 yrs old. But I can never tell what's true. Does she really take the kids to the bus and go back to bed or does she never leave bed at all while the nanny drives? Does she really only eat salads or does she stuff her face (like on CA) and do something to stay skinny like purging or meds? I won't watch the video clip, but, good lord, that woman is tone deaf. I think she's relieved and has very little guilt, because this is a Colin problem, not Kate problem.
Kate might try to come across as affected because she was "humbled" or something, not being able to help him, but she will never acknowledge being part of the eventual manifestation of Colin's problems.

Really, really really hoping that children can no longer be institutionalised for typical behaviour that annoys their parents. Then again, Penn was the state where Kids for Cash happened.

This is part of the motivation behind California reform that starts Jan 1. We're basically getting rid of all group homes. All of them. Except for the very highest levels of home for children who need the highest level of services. Seriously mentally ill children, seriously dangerous children.
All other children will be placed with foster families or given in-home services with their own bio families.
Now, whether this will work is anyone's guess, we are scratching our heads here wondering where these foster families are going to come from to help our teens and preteens--but their heart is in the right place and I'm hoping for the best.

I watched the mannequin challenge, and K is certainly not dressed for company, is she? Looks like they spent Thanksgiving alone. And no mess in the kitchen. No dishes, no leftovers cooling off before going into the fridge. I think the above posters are right--she had the kids home for dessert. The usual 4 went to Jon's. But she made sure to post that challenge to make it look like she had all of them.

I heard as well, for the first time, that her mother abandoned the family when FH was ten, and her father was nearly 70 years old when she was born.
They were so poor she didn't get a birthday cake on her birthdays.

Their mannequin challenge was actually pretty good but whichever kid filmed it filmed it way too close, so it was hard to get a sense for the big picture.
And yes, she sure is schlepping around in sweats on Thanksgiving. The house was pretty empty there for such a big holiday. No grandparents, no cousins, no friends. Who spends Thanksgiving year after year with just their kids? Sad.

I think that the chickens have something to do with Collins absence. Not sure if he actually did something to the chickens that harmed them, or perhaps social services made her get rid of them because it was too much work for the kids to take care of them, or perhaps she was violating some sort of code? I think when Collin left, she did not want to hire someone to take care of the chickens because it wouldn't be economically feasible. She wouldn't of been able to make a profit like she did off Collin.

Milo's entire universe revolves around Kate. TFW is Milo's reason for living. What happens to someone like Milo if that's taken away and Kate would cut the cord? Can Milo cope? Is the depression that great that there would be consequences not only to Kate, but also to Milo? One just never knows about the mental health of someone like Gladys. How fragile is she? It could have devastating results.

We watched Foxcatcher the documentary over Thanksgiving--not the film. The film didn't even begin to touch on the depth of Dupont's mental illness. There were so many warning signs, and it's tragic nothing was done. I found some of his behaviors remarkably similar to how some of the sheeple behave. For example, Dupont tended to latch on to a particular athlete/celeb at his facility, and would become obsessed with them and demand to be around them all the time. It really was like a fan, only because of his money he was living out a fan fantasy of actually hanging out in real life with the celeb and becoming friends. And then of course, when he perceived that Dave Schultz, his celeb, had turned on him, he killed him.
The documentary did a good job explaining why the guys were so willing to hang around someone so obviously mentally ill, and a big part of it was feeling so sorry for him and his poor social skills, and wanting to do what they could to help him out of kindness and feeling they owed it to him for being their benefactor. What an absolutely preventable tragedy.
