Sad but true (#10), if the cameras are rolling, I guess TFW and the twins will be helping to make meals. It might be the lesser of 2 evils for TFW. She may prefer doing actual work to having to mingle with the mediocre!

FlimsyFlamsy said...

I hope that Steve takes the job of protecting those two teenagers as seriously as he does guarding TFW. What happened a month ago to that young singer should add some seriousness to the importance of security at these fan meet and greets. I don't care if people have been vetted -- I think a deranged person will find a way to do harm if that is their intent.

I agree. This is serious. There has been a string of attacks at low security public events and as you said a very recent slaying of a celebrity greeting their fans. Heavy security is warranted, but who knows if they have implemented that. This is just one of a million reasons to not make your children become celebrities.

The FAQs for this block party are very interesting (http://www.eventbrite.com/e/tlc-block-party-2016-tickets-24822696353). About the only thing "free" is admission. Food and drink are available at a price. I don't know if this is the same as last year, I was under the impression that if you're throwing a party, food and drink are on you (that is, TLC). I guess all they are doing is securing the space and the "talent" (I do baulk at using that word for anyone connected to TLC). And it appears they got under 100 RSVPs.

What if you threw a block party and nobody came?

Deliverence said...

Yes, if you're throwing a party at your home. I don't think I've heard of an event where hundreds or thousands are going to attend and the food and drink is free.

&&&&

It's on the EventBrite.

100 RSVPs! That's just covers the cast and crews' family and friends who happen to live in the area, lol.

Didn't the rent out a big stadium for this? 100 is going to look like nothing in a big room. Although in fairness to them I don't think a bunch of people are real keen on going to big public events in stadiums right now with little to know explanation of the security plan--their attendance is suffering from the shock and awe of the news. Lots more people might want to go, but are feeling uncomfortable about it.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Formerly Duped (#7), that's a good question. I wonder if it was strictly a financial decision: TLC only wanting to pay airfare and hotel for 3 people instead of 7 (not counting Steve). Especially since it seems to have been a last-minute decision to even include the family at all.

Really? I've seen lots of events in public places where the food was complimentary. When you throw a party the implication is the host provides the food. I have to agree it's a little tacky to throw a PR event and then cheap out on giving people a little food and water while they're there. It wouldn't cost that much to provide hotdogs, hamburgers, and sodas to 100 guests.

&&&&&&&&&&&

Then who take care of the animals? Since the twins are very late sleepers, you think they help out with the puppies? Nah. Kate can bribe the twins for the Block Party.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

8 kids unscripted is too much potential for disaster, like one or two getting bratty and throwing fits. Kate's smart enough to know that's a bad idea.

She can keep control of just two, the older twins, and like other poster said, there's a big bribe waiting at the end of this one. They probably got a shopping spree in Chicago. I bet they got to bring their BFF too.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Admin (#12), I also think TFW is hoping there's a possibility the twins could get a spin-off like the Duggar girls did. As long as she could keep her own mug on the screen, and have a producer credit, and still be in control of the girls' earnings, she'd be all over that idea.

EVENT DETAILS:

A FREE event open to the public! Join TLC and your favorite TLC personalities as they bring summer fun to Chicago with great music, food, games, a fun kids' zone and on-stage and booth activities, including: cookie decorating with the CAKE BOSS Buddy Valastro, a hair and nail salon with the LONG ISLAND MEDIUM Theresa Caputo, a ring toss with the SISTER WIVES, a green/screen photo space with your friends from SAY YES TO THE DRESS and SAY YES TO THE DRESS: ATLANTA and a " jazz hands" arts and crafts activity with Jazz and her family from I AM JAZZ.

The Roloff Farms Kid's Zone will feature a special art project, coloring sheets & art supplies for kids of all ages, brought to you by Blick Art Materials.

In support of TLC's Give A Little campaign, Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief organization, will also be present at the event to educate people about hunger in the U.S. and here in the Chicago area. Feeding America, along with The Pack Shack, will challenge attendees to package 50,000 lunches by the end of the day. The meals will be donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, a local Feeding America member food bank.

We hope to see you Saturday at Solider Field in Chicago!
========
I would assume that when the ad say "...great music, FOOD, games..." that the food is free. They list the different events that the talent will be taking part in but not a word about TFW & company. I guess they'll throw them into an event at the last minute.

Sue said...

I wish the twins would get a spin off (a couple of episodes at least) and one of them could turn into more of a diva than she's already showing herself to be. Kate would have hell to pay then when she starts to scream about it being her money and she can do what she wants.

I've been to events too where the food and drink were complimentary, openings at art galleries for example--wine and cheese, etc., for as long as it lasts. Weddings, of course, but those aren't open to the public. I was at a huge block party where everyone brought a dish. However, I honestly don't recall any events where the hosts expected to fill a stadium where the food and drinks were complimentary. This event is more like a fair, a celebrity-viewing fair. Fairs have food and drink stands but don't offer it free. I doubt TLC rented a stadium, as you said, expecting only 100 people. If only 100 attend I'll be very surprised. If people are actually avoiding going to public events because of all the recent terrorist activity, this TLC event won't be the only one with a small attendance.

Formerly Duped (#19), I was thinking Deanna would be with TFW today to do her makeup, and possibly the girls', too.

NJGal51 said...

The CUBS are in town today and I'm guessing that they'll be more of a draw than the TLC event.

I never thought for a minute the food and drinks would be complimentary. TLC uses the description of a "block party" as a friendly get-together, but it's not.

I assume the nanny is home with the tups. Deanna only appears if there is filming. Besides, she'd be a third wheel with Steve.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Traditionally PR events provide complimentary food and drinks. Nothing fancy, but enough to be gracious to all the journalists who are going to say good things about you and make sure they're not starving while they decide what to write about you.

This isn't *really* a carnival where you would expect to pay $8 for fried dough. This is a press event to promote good publicity for the network.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

My guess? They've got a bunch of signs to pick from and attendees will be able to stand in front of the "I AM" sign with the sign of their choice.

Yeah. I noticed Cara and Mady picked a sign I'd probably pick up. I am "me" and I am "limitless."

Kate, however, picks up a sign that makes it about others and implies that others have got it all wrong about her. Her sign is: "I am more than meets the eye." She can't help but constantly be trying to re-write the narrative and try to tell a differing story than what everyone else can plainly see. Even in the I am campaign she wants to keep peddling this idea that she's not really what she puts out there. Please.

It looks like the Block Party is being held at "Stadium Green", a park like setting outside of the actual Soldier's Field stadium. The area is quite beautiful with a lot of trees, monuments, and sits not far from the lake. They're lucky the Chicago weather for today is going to be fairly mild because this time of year it's often hot and very humid.

100 RSVPs though is pitiful. Oh well. Perhaps TLC will get the message viewers aren't very happy with their programming and/or their 'talent'.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Admin (#24), and I find the rewriting of history particularly disingenuous when TFW herself proclaimed the show the "realest reality," and said, "what you see is what you get."

I looked at Kate's IG. There's a comment on the pics of Kate holding a dog "Animal love is unconditional." It might be, but to most of us the love of our kids is unconditional. It must be hard for the kids watching her show these dogs that love, even if she only does it for photos. I don't remember pics of Kate hugging her kids that way.

Pretty sure there are more than 100 people there. You can watch it live on the TLC Facebook page. The camera has panned the crowd. Last year there were more than 4000. That's a lot of people to feed for free.

I must say the group performing right now is horrible.

I was looking at a replay of the live feed from just an hour ago. It was already far past 2 in Chicago, and the event was already well underway (it started at noon). The live feed proves the video I was watching occurred when it did--that's why it's live. The event did not start until noon. No one was doing a live feed at 9am.

I've provided you picture proof there are only a few hundred people there well into two hours into the event. You are free to provide picture proof of the 4,000 people you claim are there. Just like Kate's book signing. I could see no one was there, I was THERE, yet there were her sheeple claiming it was so very well attended.

The scariest thing about the attack in Nice is it just proves the point that you can take away everyone's guns pretty much like what France has done, and crazy people will still exist and still find other ways to kill masses of people. They're just getting more creative. We've got to go deeper than the guns. In fact, the hyper focus on the guns has caused us to lose valuable time.
_____
Terrorism is not the only, or even the main, reason behind the need for serious gun control.

&&&&

Strawman argument. After the Orlando attacks all people could talk about was gun control, as if that were the answer. Yet, before and since then there have been an alarming number of terrorism attacks that never involved guns at all, several in countries who have very strict gun laws. One after the other.

The point being made is that to even remotely suggest that gun control has anything to do with preventing terrorism is getting to be just nonsensical at this point. And, an alarming distraction and waste of time when the focus should be on intelligence and prevention. The gun control lobby absolutely has their hearts in the right place, but when it gets to the point where it's distracting from other ways to prevent death and destruction, it hurts more than it helps.
______________

When I think of the need for gun control terrorism, acts commited by ISIS or ISIS-like groups for sick religious/power reasons, is far down on the list. Very far down. I see that this may be a minority view.

You really have to dig to find the "live" video of this event, but Admin is correct. I would doubt there are more than 500 people there, lots and lots of open space. I just viewed a clip (recorded 30 minutes ago) of Cake Boss playing with a band, and it's really rather pathetic. If you want to see clips, go to the TLC Twitter and then you have to dig from there. I was unable to locate the supposed "live feed" either on their Twitter or TLC FB. But there are these video snippets.

Minority or majority view I don't know, but I agree with you, gun control has little to nothing to do with our problem with terrorism. So many attacks don't involved guns at all, and of those that do, if guns were taken away and couldn't be found illegally, they would just use one of the dozens of other ways terrorism acts have been committed: trucks, planes, bombs, pressure cookers, knives, cyber attacks, any other way to cause destruction.

Now that you say that I think you're right about that. They're looking for photo ops. It's about PR, not being good neighbors.

It's very expensive to launch a comprehensive advertising campaign everyone is sure to see. They are better off doing advertising for free or cheap via the internet, and then pay a couple grand to bus in some extras to fill in any gaps. Advertising through other methods--commercials, print media, could run in the tens of thousands of dollars when extras are only a couple grand.

I did see a short clip of Kate on stage with the twins playing some kind of game where she stuffs a laundry basket full of stuff. The twins were just standing there. I saw two or three girls their age standing behind them--not sure if those were audience members or their friends. It was very Dionne like. I got bored after about 20 seconds and didn't stick around to figure out what was happening.

Speaking of Austin. I agree with the tweeter. I read several of his tweets over the past years (ever since he wanted to meet up with Kate for some kind of a fan get-together) and his tweets were disgusting...immature, very suggestive with no class whatsoever. He was so hung up on Kirstie's "rack" and made no apologies about it. Just pestered her about her breasts. Sick.

+++++++++

There is something really "off" about a college age kid who is hung up on older women celebrities and their boobs. That one scares me.

He also seems to think he's been born with the proverbial silver spoon. His tweets are always "me, me, me."

So did spooky Goody get to the block party?

Susan1956,
I agree that she probably has piles of money, but I also think she desperately craves cameras and "fame". She has made it clear over the years that she wants nothing more than to be on TV, and I don't think any amount of money will fill that need. She needs cameras, she needs attention, and she needs to feel, because of the cameras and attention, that she is better than everyone else around her. Being on TV makes her feel special and important in a way that money by itself cannot.

I agree that TFW craves the fame. Without it she's just a mother of 8 from somewhere in PA. Yes she's probably got a shit ton of money, but she's from somewhere in PA and isn't rubbing elbows with the rich and famous in NY and LA. I'm sure she's made some trips to NY but the paps don't care and no one reports on her any more. If all else fails she'll try to get a YouTube channel going. If she's not in the spotlight she's just Katie Irene, mother of 8, from somewhere in PA.

Susan1956 (#85), you're right -- TFW has squandered so many opportunities for herself. Even if she was too lazy to actually nurture relationships, she might still get new gigs if she wasn't so darn unpleasant. At this stage of the game, her reputation precedes her. And that's why she's stuck being TLC's side piece.

This was a post on the Get Real LOL TLC on Facebook.

So today was the TLC block party in Chicago. WE HAD A BLAST!!! Omg seriously so much fun!!! Theresa and Larry are awesome!!! Our daughter drew Theresa a picture and she adored her!!

Every celebrity was so nice and so happy to see everyone! The lines were so long and we didn't get to take a group shot with the sister wives cast. I'm not going to lie, I LOVE them and was disappointed.

After the autograph session, the TLC crew took them away for a interview. Everyone was trying to take a pic with them.. The TLC cast tried stopping it because they were so busy. I was standing there kinda feeling disappointed because I really wanted to meet them.

I kid you not.. Kody came up to me, grabbed my phone out of my hand and took a selife with me!!!! I didn't even ask for a picture because I know they were overwhelmed but I really really wanted to bombard them LOL. I couldn't believe it!!!

Seriously that was so so cool he came up to me like that and took a pic with me!! Like he literally grabbed my phone out of my hand. He probably saw the disappointment in my face. He is SO nice. He is so awesome!!!!!!

Christine is a riot..so so funny! I told Mary I loved her lol. We met Amy Rolloff and she was so sweet and loved our daughter. Sorry this is so long but I couldn't keep it in. It was so awesome.

Compared to the halter top Hawaiian wedding dress, she is humongous!

I hope she didn't use the kids money to pay for them! Steve also is looking older and he looks like he has gained weight and he needs a haircut.

Someone posted that Gina was not at Kate's when Steve and his sons were there when she was running around in the nude bikini. She loves doing things like that. Remember the young boy in a car out in her driveway and she had those white shorts on with a blue halter top and she basically crammed her chest into the back window in that boys face.

Foxy -- Austin is in his early 20s. He also has the hots for Leann Rimes and Britney Spears. He posted a picture of himself with Rimes. All he does is travel, and it looks that he's successful in meeting his women idols because he's posted photos of himself with these celebrities.

I remember seeing a photo of a Christmas gift he was mailing to Rimes. He also has the longest fingers I've ever seen (picture of himself with Rimes). He strikes me as a first-degree creeper who quite possibly has mommy issues.

It doesn't matter to me one way or the other if Gina has washed her hands of Kate. What is there to accept? I don't know what their relationship has been, or is now. That's between Gina, Steve, their family and Kate.

I also don't put much trust in what "paps" report. They don't have access to everything that goes on inside the house. Maybe Gina was there, maybe she wasn't. If not, it was her choice and could have been nothing more than she had prior commitments and nothing to do with washing her hands of Kate. There are other possibilities to explain her absence if she were absent. It's over and done.

Somewhere in the FAQs (I think), I read that a ticket was NOT required for entrance. The point is TLC asked for RSVPs when they were publicizing this, and all they got as of the "day of" was +/- 100. So either people weren't paying this event much attention or couldn't be bothered to RSVP. I agree there may have been as many as 1,000, but stretched out over 5 hours that really isn't a lot. We will never know because TLC will never tell us, but I believe the turn-out was far less than last year's Philly party, and that was less than a blockbuster.

Oh and I saw a photo of the staging area with volunteers, who were pathetically few. One way or another, they did not appear to be set up to put together 10,000 meals per hour at that site.

Now, Kody wants a younger, slimmer wife, #5!

Because they were asked to do so, and because there are some things that are common courtesy that never should be a "thing of the past." One should at least have enough respect for the person doing the inviting to let them who will attend so that they know how many people to expect.

Good manners have taken such a backslide; our kids are being taught "why bother" and that's a shame.

I don't consider this eventbrite reserving thing as anything like an ordinary RSPV. I'm surprised they called it that. I would have called it something like: reserve online to ensure your place at the event. They certainly didn't have an "invitation list" or expect people not intending to attend to send their "regrets".

I went to a free lecture that was reservable on eventbrite, and I certainly did reserve to insure that I would get in. And this was at a venue about 10-15 minutes from my house.

I certainly wouldn't shlep myself any distance into central Chicago and pay $22 for parking on the off-chance that I'd get in.

I was too late to see anything on eventbrite about the number of responses, but I do wonder if the "100" that was reported was either meaningless or misinterpreted.

It looked to me like many hundreds of people were at the event, unless the pictures were photoshopped. Jazz's wall certainly had a lot of handprints.

Deliverence said...

I agree. RSVPs are traditionally asked for when sending out invitations, not for advertising on a blog. People planning a wedding, having a graduation party or big party of some kind want to know how many of those invited to expect. Should all those people in Chicago who read that ad and were not going to attend RSVPd their regrets? LOL

I've been thinking about the events that go on in the communities around me and there are many. This is basically a resort area. Of the scores of events every year, an RSVP has never accompanied an announcement of an event open to the public, nor do they offer free food.

The block party was held in a huge open area, no need to reserve a spot.

I'm puzzled about why Evenbrite would ask for such a thing.

Deliverence said...

Absolutely where there is limited seating one needs to reserve a space. One doesn't need to reserve a space on the grass at Soldiers Field.

Why they requested RSVPs in a mystery to me. There was plenty of space and they weren't catering it.

Other than weddings and little kids birthday parties people don't mail out invitations like they used to. Invitations are verbal.

Just like people are not much concerned about proper grammar anymore.

Things change. The ways of the older generations fade away. If the people having parties don't care to get RSVPs, so what? I have a friend who always has drinks at her house then takes a group to dinner at Christmas. She doesn't ask for RSVPs. She asks if we're coming. Wasn't that pretty much the end of her running phase? I had to laugh when Kate cried about having to still take care of her children when she broke a teeny, tiny phalange.
'I walked out to the kitchen to make you breakfast!!" or something like that.
Gee whiz when I broke my wrist, I was casted from my knuckles to my armpit, yet somehow managed to go to work while it healed for 8 weeks.

We have nephews who write thank you notes and their mom sends them in snail mail. It's really lovely.
Grammar is a big problem with the advent of texting and social media. When see "jellus" and worse, "prolly", I cringe.

Because they were *asked* to RSVP.

I've attended street type events that have asked for RSVP's. It's not uncommon. It helps them get a better idea of numbers, so it's polite to do so, especially when the event may be on a tight budget or be associated with a charity.

Classic "The Office".
"Best pizza in NYC!"
IMO, the biggest reason that Kate never made it as a food personality/cookbook author/cooking show host is that she doesn't come across as having a true joie de vivre when it comes to food and eating.
I think she cares about what she eats, but is way too tight fisted about it, especially when it comes to her kids.
At the end of the day, Kate will seek out chain restaurants instead of enjoying the fun experience that hunting down the best locals and Mom n' Pop places that towns and cities have to offer.
What she had there at PF Changs is a plate of salt.

One of Meri's twitter trolls posted a tweet that she was at the TLC block party (she was there looking for Scam & Kendra). She said she never spotted them (of course not) but also stated there was hardly anyone there! So funny! At least us Chicagoans know better than to be anywhere near any TLC sponsored shitfest!

The photos posted all seem to indicate a thin crowd. And at least as of now, I was unable to find any news reporting on the event.

The event wasn't held inside Soldier Field. It was outside in the park like setting on the grounds of the Field - between the parking garages and the Field itself, on the museum campus. There were many other TLC "talent" there and the food was actually very good - with a menu ranging from Italian beef to hummus and veggies.

chacha1 ElectricBlue • a day ago
when I used to go to the Bear's games.. it was cold and I never noticed the park near the museum ..... thanks for the clarification

XXXXX • a day ago
Did you make it a Family Fun Day?

XXXXX • a day ago
I did not. I went because it was free and thought it would be amusing. I haven't watched SW in years nor do I watch any Television. But I occasionally read the snark. Did not stand in line for any autographs but thoroughly enjoyed the people watching. It was actually a nice, though not well attended event. . . .

XXXXX • a day ago
Except for the food and drinks, the entire event was free. There was a tent to go make meal boxes for those less fortunate and they really advertised the Feed the Hungry campaign throughout the event. So there was a huge charitable element to it, which I appreciated. The TLC "talent" we're walking the grounds and were very accessible to their "fans". Like I said, I don't watch tv so really had no clue who any of them were and was constantly asking other people, "who is that"? It was hard to tell who was waiting for which "star" in line for autographs as it was two long lines and the "talent" changed every 30 minutes. But everyone there was very nice

XXXXX • a day ago
I like "charity' for sure, but you can bet the Brown Holes were not there for that, they are all about what they can get for themselves for free, the Brown Holes are tag alongs and want that TLC money to come to them. Now the Cake Boss and Teresa, I truly believe, are there for the charity since their shows are a success

XXXXX • a day ago
Believe me, I am no fan of the Browns or their "lifestyle" and while it was funny that cake guy sang some Bon jovi with the band (badly, I might add), all of the actors are there for one reason - and it's to further their brand. Whether it's cakes, polygamy, cupcakes, little people, LGBT or taking to the dead. At least TLC corporate added a charitable aspect to it.
----------
Most of the 100+ comments on this post are about Sister Wives, but Cake Boss, LPBW, and LI Medium are also mentioned more than once. Kate's name does not crop up at all. The comments about the Brown family are so very close to the sort of comments people make about Kate and the Duggars. Interesting, isn't it?

I skimmed through the comments and no mention of Kate and the girls. Not even on the radar.
They seemed to feel the LI Medium and Buddy and Baker were the big draw.
I wonder if TLC does local advertising in papers and tv. I'm sure there were more than a couple hundred people, but for that amount of "talent" put there by TLC, it sure wasn't packed.
What does one do with an autographed PR photo of a polygamist family? Frame it?

....

However, based on the few number of RSVPs, most didn't and that's my point. Most people do not RSVP anymore, right or wrong, they just don't. And to RSVP to an "open to the public" event just doesn't require an RSVP. Perhaps "limited space available" would have garnered RSVPs, but there was plenty of space. It wasn't necessary. The event happened, went smoothly, no need to for a head count in such a situation.

Tucker's Mom said...

My guess is that TLC wanted to get an idea of turnout for the Block Party to gage food, drink and security, along with materials.

Maybe she was worried about how Kate might "envision" her and she'd be a disappointment to Kate. Before the cruise, Gladys was concerned enough about it to send Kate a tweet.

HA! That sounds like a fluff talking point job where she can't do any harm. Better than a real cabinet position! I mean, she did work in the White House. Trump always praised her for some reason, thinks she's great.

On another note, I think this just proves the point that it's in Kate's best interest to be kind to other people who have cropped up at various spots in her "career" over the years, and to maintain relationships. That includes saying hey, congrats, to someone doing well politically, without committing yourself to their campaign. It just might lead to a great job. Keeping those ties strong and nurturing your network promotes longevity. Say what you like about Omarosa, but she understands that basic concept.

Well you know, the idea of Kate working with Michelle Obama was "floating around" for a bit, wasn't it?
Kate has met and worked with an unbelievable amount of (successful) people, mostly in television. The opportunities and contacts she's had have been numerous, yet have yielded no sustainable career alternatives.
I really thought Kate could have been the Jaqueline Smith of kids' clothes.

Well, since Donald Trump knows he's not going to get the African American vote and doesn't really give a shit about "African American outreach" in this case it is a "fluff" position. In general, however, outreach across racial lines should not be dismissed as "fluff."

&&&&

It has nothing to with African Americans why I think it's fluff, but good job making it a racist thing.

An "outreach" position just sounds like something made up, meaningless, and not something you can mess up.

Even so, there are plenty of African Americans who support Trump and the spin that African Americans don't support "Trump" is kind of funny, since many African Americans are traditionally Democrat and wouldn't support ANY Republican candidate, never have. Has nothing to do with Trump.
