A reality star's daughter breaks her silence: I was 'exploited, 'powerless without a voice'

One reality T.V. kid steps into adulthood, and introspection: 'Excess debris created by a produced, manipulated, pseudo-reality universe.'

Says Real Housewives daughter Christie Staub in this chilling account (and big foreshadowing):
  • My mother's storyline was edited and produced, placing her in scenarios to achieve a desired outcome. She wouldn't normally be involved in these scenarios; they were dictated by the producers, and they just told my mom where to show up for filming. In season one, my mother didn't expect this to happen. These were the early days of reality shows. In 2006, The Hills was in its first season, and the Real Housewives franchise had yet to become a household name. Today, reality stars are savvy, but a decade ago, talent lacked a frame of reference. Other than Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, my mother had never seen a reality show. Just be myself, she thought. Little did she know that myself is how the producers choose to present you. Every story arc needs an antagonist and a protagonist—that is what creates the conflict and resolution, i.e. the drama.

  • Imagine if all of the arguments you've had in your life were filmed by a stranger, and they took out the worst things you said, edited it together, and then presented the footage on TV to define your character. Would you say that characterization was accurate? Anything that is produced, and edited in this manner, is fictitious by default, but unlike an actor, my mother didn't have the advantage of hiding behind a character, not to mention that the reality forms a perception that is impossible to overcome when the viewers aren't aware of what goes down behind the scenes. The producers had the power to manipulate my mother in anyway they pleased to increase ratings. When the second season ended, my mother decided to leave the show. The network portrayed her decision as her getting fired, but she left to save her life and her kids.

  • Even now, all these years later, people see me as a character created by a producer. They see me as the daughter of an infamous reality show prostitution whore. They may not have called me garbage like they called my mother, but that's how they made me feel. They took away my name and my voice. My name is Christine Staub, and I will no longer be the excess debris created by a produced, manipulated, pseudo-reality universe. I will never again be a character defined by unethical producers, and exploited by networks all over the world. I am no longer a child, powerless without a voice.

I admit it, I was a Trump skeptic. Until very recently, I was sure he would find some excuse to drop out. Mea culpa.

I believe Cosby is guilty of everything currently on the record and much, much more. The convincing point for me is his determination to keep it out of the courts. If he were innocent, I would think he would be anxious to do whatever he could to clear his name. Instead, he has spent years and years silencing anyone who dared accuse him by any means necessary.

That convinced me and actually, some of his more well known victims coming forward really convinced me too. Janice Dickinson and the like.

There's just no reason to come forward and tell a lie like that knowing it could have negative implications on your career and reputation. It would be far too risky to get caught in a lie like that and your reputation destroyed. You could even find yourself in a defamation suit. I simply don't believe a woman with her career on track and life going good would do that.

Unless they're just telling the truth, then there's no harm to telling the story and in fact just helps nab him. It convinced me.

Someone commented that anyone who trusts Trump is high on crack. After the results of Super Tuesday, it seems like so many in America must be flying above the clouds right now. I wonder if they are sharing their stuff.

&&&&

I can see blowing off his overwhelming wins as just on crack for SOME states....hehe.

But come on, he won Massachusetts. Lots of normal folks there. Lots of highly educated, good employment rate, low crime. They can't all be smoking something.

Issue by issue he's actually kind of moderate. I think that appeals when compared to some of the more religious right candidates most of the Northeast and West doesn't respond to.

The other day I was preparing pork loin and made a garlic rosemary rub for it. As I took the pork out of the packaging, it smelled a bit gamey and no wonder,when I bought it, it was already days past the sell-by date!
Tossed it.
How to use the rub? Ah, I have frozen shrimp! So, I made Rosemary Garlic Shrimp:
Heat 2 tbsp. butter and evoo in pan. Add minced fresh garlic and rosemary and heat until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Turn up heat and add seasoned shrimp (I used 31-40 size) and cook for about 1 minute per side. Add a bunch of capers and chopped pepadew peppers (OMG, I love these things!). Deglaze with a bit of white wine and cook for a minute to mellow out. Add juice of one lemon and a slurry made of stock (veg., chicken, seafood) and heaping tbsp. corn starch.
Simmer until thickened and adjust seasoning.
I served over basmati rice.
Oh, I love my Zojirushi rice maker!

He came off as petulant, and I really like him. There's a lot of credible insider rumors going around he and his croonies might trysomething underhanded to stop Trump from getting all his delagates. That's not right. If Repulican voters want to nominate Trump fair and square, democracy commands that they be allowed to do so.

This is Mitt Romney's option: He should run for the nomination. If he thinks he has it all figured out he should have no problem securing the nom again.

Again, I've said it a hundred times and I'm not the only one. The RNC needs to ask themselves why voters are going for Trump. And I promise it's not because all of his supporters are racist. But they can keep on believing that and keep on not facing up to what is happening there.

Voters are loud and clear. They don't LIKE the current Republican establishment. I guess they can remain in denial about that all they want but it's not getting them any votes.

Tucker's Mom said...

The liberal media are absolutely evil in this. Report the damn news, don't try to take down a Republican candidate because you don't like him.
I see about a dozen articles a day in my paper, calling anyone and everyone to take Trump down. Now! It's Time!! Do Something Before It's Too Late!! Rubio Save Us! Mitt Help!!!

It's like they don't give a flying flip that our democracy is actually working as it should. Agree or not with people supporting Trump, but that's how our system works, and trying your level best to thwart the democratic process is equally un-American.
When election day comes around, hold your nose and vote for whom you support, or the lesser of two evils. But do not call for a take down of a widely-supported candidate.

The debates last night were a blatent take down. They dug up all kinds of dirt and tried to twist it around against him.

One in particular was about Syria. I guess Trump had originally said he wouldn't object to allowing refugees to come here. He some time later said he would. They're like, AH HA, GOTCH-YA!!!

I thought Trump handled it very well. He's like look, at the time I made my original statement I based it on the information I had at that time. As time went on it became much more clear what a problem refugees were causing for Europe. I now have much more information and so I CHANGED.MY.MIND based on more info like a reasonable, rational person does once they have more or different info than before. It makes no sense to stubbornly stick to the same position even in the face of new evidence revealed that should cause you to rethink things.

Fox was practically stuttering trying to respond to that one. Uh-uh-uh buuuut.....

The answer really is simple. If the establishment or media doesn't like Trump, submit someone better. Go for it. It's what the Democrats did, how is it no one gives them any problems about just following the rules? Many of their establishment don't like Hillary, so they submitted a fine candidate in Bernie in response. He may not win it but at least it will be a fair, democratic fight. If Hillary is who people want so be it but you have to come to that conclusion under the rules.

You know the real head scratching here is not the benign insults and sparring happening in a nice and dirty political contest. It's the manipulation folks are trying to railroad through, trying to change the game in ways that are suspect and at times anti-Democratic.

The media, the RNC doesn't get it. Voters don't LIKE YOU. Trump provided an alternative to YOU and they went for it because they don't like YOU. End of story.

The worst hair day I think TFW has had was the hairstyle she wore at the Yard Sale, the one that Jon came to. She looked like she was trying to be a teenager, but she is going on 41.

Greasy, too fake looking, too long, unwashed.

It looked like a ton of extensions in her hair.

It's obvious Bill O'Reilly can't stand Trump but I'm watching his post-debate show playing catch up on things I tivoed this week and he's basically telling Marco Rubio I don't see how you or anybody else can win this seems like a lock to me. I think he just about said I'm sorry but I have to tell the truth.

The first time I've seen the media admit this is over. And it's that guy of all people.

I guess Kate's not going to congratulate Your Honor but has she shown any concern for Sig after his emergency at sea?

I've seen a lot of hair extensions and they all look like that unless you spend hours styling them. They look dead and dry, like a Barbie's hair.

I don't get it. You can't get away with bed head with them. Unless you're going to put in the effort why get something that looks so bad?

Oh, yes, I agree, it did. She said in the interview if she had to be evicted that she would just walk out the door and walk to the train tracks. That poor woman. In the last two or three months of her life she had to worry that she was going to be evicted and thrown out of the house where she had lived for 66 years! And she thought it was better to just walk to the train tracks!

That man could of done the right thing but he didn't. He could of sold it to them for 1 dollar on the contingency that they each have a life estate, still pay the rent, then when they had both passed away the house would come back to him, free and clear. Then he could of sold it for real.

That poor woman said, he doesn't need the money. So glad the attorneys that are involved are high priced and doing it pro bono. I hope the roommate lives to be 125. I think she is in her late 80's.

The other day I was talking to two guys and we were talking about the consequences of blood money. I said, you couldn't pay me to take blood money. And one said, I would take all the blood money I could get my hands on, won't bother me. I said, Whoa! Not me. The other guy said, he would too. They were serious!

Then again, if she's filming, she may not need

I do too, and I appreciate the way she always tries to bring the topic of conversation back to the victims, all these years later. She never allowed this to just be about the circus. She has been one of the lone voices in helping the public remember what this was really supposed to be about.

I believe she genuinely was in this to do her duty to the people of California and to the victims. I find her to be very sincere in her role as a prosecutor.

I've been watching the campaign news on CNN over the last month or so. I've notice when various supporters are interviewed they refer to Hillary, Mario, Jeb, Bernie, Ted, etc. Within the past few days two of Donald Trump's supporters (who look like Barbie dolls) refer to him only as "Mister" Trump. That seems to me a deliberate attempt to generate some sort of presidential respectability for the potential candidate.

I was especially interested in the Mitt Romney CNN interview on Friday. In suggesting Trump is a con artist, he mentioned that while Trump says he is self-funding his campaign for the nomination, Trump is actually lending himself the funds for which he will be reimbursed if/when he secures the Republican nomination. He also has a "donate" link on his campaign website.

Romney didn't explain where the reimbursement will come from but my theory is Trump is charging his campaign expenses through his many companies under the banner of The Trump Organization which includes marketing the brand and licencing. From what Romney said I assume all his campaign expenses through these various companies will be reimbursed if he succeeds in securing the nomination. (Is it any wonder the IRS always audits this guy, as Trump himself has said?)

Does anyone know who will actually reimburse Trump should he actually secure the nomination - I'm hoping it will not be the American taxpayers.

bm

Gerismum said...

From what a understand, when it reaches the general nomination, the rnc has to fund it.

Anonymous said...

Anna Lowe @86 - Thanks for your reply. Do you mean the RNC funds the nominee for the funds spent to get the person to the point of nomination? Or, does the RNC cover the cost of the actual campaign from that point through to the November election?

From what I've heard from other sources, Trump will reimburse himself for the campaign expenses. He has not been upfront with the bragging about self-funding. And the constant auditing indicates to me he turns in shady returns year after year. BS that all big businesses are audited all the time. No wonder he hates the IRS.

Could it be that some actually have been taught to refer to their elders, or people in such a position as a political candidate with respect? She does take obedience and socialization classes and is friendly but has certain fears- she's a rescue dog. I read once that dogs bark at passing bikes, people going by, mailmen,paper boys etc. because they have figured out that if they bark the person goes away. (but they would be going away even without the barking)

I have no help with barking dogs. Mine are 12 and 13 and bark at people, slow cars, animals. Plus they have high separation anxiety when I am gone and get just horrible when I get home or if they think they are home alone. Nothing has worked. I haven't resorted to the prozac the vet mentioned. LOL Thankfully we live in the country so no neighbors complain.

My son uses the bark collar with lemon spray that helps his alot. I didn't try it myself.

Duped, I have never been able to eradicate the behavior, but then, I haven't had that goal. I look at it as a protective response, which is a pretty good thing, especially as I now live without another human. I have had success with minimizing the barking, once it has started, by telling Darwin "good boy--thank you" in an encouraging tone. He may do one or two more barks, but they are much weaker. I think he sees it as his job to sound the alert, so I just calmly thank hi, and tell him everything is OK. I don't really know what he does when I am out.

fidosmommy said...

My Fido would bark at any knock at the door or noise outside. He meant business. He would not stop until I opened the door, greeted the person in a friendly tone, and then he would step back and got relaxed enough to accept a quick head patting from the visitor.

When the postman came by every day, Fido became almost distraught, barking himself hoarse as soon as the mail truck turned the corner. One day I met the mailman on the front porch with Fido on a leash. I asked the mailman if I could touch his arm. I patted the guy's arm and said "good man, good man" and then patted Fido's head saying "good Fido, good Fido", over and over again. He calmed down and eventually allowed the mailman to rub his ears. He would wag his tail and ask to go sit on the porch when he heard the mail truck. He patiently waited for the guy to come to our porch and they became buddies.

He barked incessantly when tied up outside. I took that as lonliness and fear of abandonment. He was used to being on a walking leash, but he was with me then. Being on an outdoor chain was intolerable and since he was a stray I adopted, I told myself his former people just tied him up outside a lot and he didn't want any more of that.

The dog next door, a Beagle howler no less, was tied up outside 24/7. He let everyone know how much he hated that. 24/7. I finally called the authorities who chose to do nothing for that poor animal.

Fido and the UPS truck was hysterical to watch. If he could have, he would have bitten right through all 4 tires. The UPS man would come out of a house and see Fido snarling and barking at them. He laughed and I got Fido out of there. It was only UPS trucks and postal trucks that got a rise out of him. Other vehicles were fine with him.

I wish that mine did know that she is supposed to sound an alert. I have a non-barker. For awhile I thought she was part Basenji! The only time she will bark is when she needs to go out, which isn't that often and it will be two barks, no more no less. She can hold it longer than any dog I've ever seen. An intruder could enter the house and she'd welcome him with a wagging tail. If she's outside on a leash she will bark a few times at the squirrels, but not at humans. It is the most quiet dog I have ever seen. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

As long as they pretend to act concerned about the girls, and claim it's crucial to their healing to forgive

they can get. A ghostwriter has probably been working on Josh and Anna's book for months, so it'll be ready for the redemption tour.

I wonder if People already had their Duggar girls cover set for the end of the week, only to be bumped by Nancy Reagan. Just speculation.

Leslie (#146), I agree that the Duggar parents will be back on the show at some point. And I'll go you one further and say I think Josh will be back at some point, too. He's supposed to be out of rehab soon, if he isn't already. How could TLC resist the opportunity of getting millions of viewers to watch the "new" Josh? As long as they pretend to act concerned about the girls, and claim it's crucial to their healing to forgive
and accept their brother, I think TLC will gleefully air every minute of footage of him
they can get. A ghostwriter has probably been working on Josh and Anna's book for months, so it'll be ready for the redemption tour.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But, but, but, child molestion of your young sisters and a babysitting, the covering up by the parents and cheating on your wife and four babies is not mainstream tv and must see tv!
TLC is salivating at the thought of huge ratings to get the money rolling back in to their coffers. Can you imagine if they had Jon and Kate Plus 8, HCHBB, 19 Kids all back on at their best ratings at one time. They would wear out many rakes down to the nub raking in the cash.
TLC has been filming the Duggars. They were filmed at a local lumber store and bought 4K in lumber and built a huge gazebo on the Duggar compound. Jana was featured in charge of the supplies. The picture of JoyAnna, Jana and Jinger above Jessa's head is very creepy. They all have their eyes closed and Jessa has a big smile on her face with her eyes closed.
Pictures of the comeback as someone posted looks like the George Lopez opening. When I see it, all I can think of is the song, Low Rider.
The tide has turned... I have the flu and my kids have taken wonderful care of me! 😷❤️😷. I'm in quarantine so they don't get sick! #LoveThem
Very strange that TFW would tweet that she is deathly sick and Milo doesn't even flinch? No, medical advice hashtags and something about what a good mom she is to have the love and support of her children taking care of her, because she is a good mom?
Something is seriously wrong, I'm afraid. And, sincerely, I hope I am very wrong.
FlimsyFlamsy said...
Redbird (#150), what creeps me out about this
new-and-improved Duggar family in the promos is their willingness to be whatever the public wants
them to be in order to keep the gravy train
chugging along. Oh, does TLC's research say people like the Bates family more because they
hug each other? Um, okay, I guess we can start doing that! Not silly enough? Sure, we can loosen up a bit! Let's keep reading viewer feedback and adjust our behavior accordingly!
And that brings me back to TFW. It seems in those last few episodes, she was making an effort to appear more tolerant and less angry. Several people commented here that they noticed a change in her. But I believe it was an act, to get what she wanted. People change because they feel they can improve, but TFW thinks she's fine just the way she is.
I'm planning to finish up the recaps but in the meantime for any Full House fans out there there is a hilarious blog out there doing recaps of both the old show and the new one. Don't read them if you don't want to read a Full House hater. But he's HILARIOUS in how much he hates that show. He reminds me of us watching Kate Plus 8.
I loved the Downton Abby finale last night. While it may have been just a little too neat and tidy in wrapping up some of the longer storylines, at least I felt good for all the characters and the prospects for their futures.
I don't see much point in continuing with the existing characters since there wasn't anything of substance left hanging. We've seen the downstairs staff dwindle from the massive number in the first season down to the seven core positions in the final season. With the depression setting in within the next couple of years followed by the rise of Germany I think the story line has run its course.
I could maybe see a movie set 20 years in the future that focused on the Crawley daughters' children during the rebuilding of Britain after World War 2 (they would be 19-25 years old at that time), but the dynamic between the aristocracy and the staff is pretty well over.
Overall I think Julian Fellows did a fine job wrapping the series up. I'm looking forward to his next period series, The Gilded Age, set during the industrial revolution in New York. Who knows, since Cora was from America and her mother (played by Shirley MacLaine) was a rich widow it may be possible to see some crossover of characters from Downton Abbey. While likely not central to the story, it would be interesting to see a young Cora growing up, losing her father, and then taking her inheritance to England after she is married to Lord Grantham.
Add me to the list worried about Auntie Ann! She is hilarious!
I tried today to find the link to TFW on WWHL when she shouted out to Milo. I watched the clip of Andy reading the book, **** girls say and TFW just couldn't stand it and begged and held her hand out and asked him a couple of times for the book, and he finally handed it to her.
I tell ya, that Morgan Fairchild is CLASSY as the day is long! A caller called in and asked her if it was true if she was kidnapped. She said yes. And she began to tell the story of how she was walking down Amsterdam Ave. in NYC at 2:00 pm. broad daylight in 1970 and she was in her early 20's and a man walked up to her and then another man on the other side of her and these were big men and they just picked her up by her elbows and threw her into a cab with a driver that couldn't speak english and plexiglass.
So they began to tell her what they were going to do to her body and one guy was a pimp and the other was a pusher. While Morgan was telling this, TFW was sitting there FLIPPING THROUGH THE **** Girls Say and wasn't even listening to her!
Then about 30 seconds later they showed her all interested and half gasping at what she was hearing. I bet ANYTHING, Steve got her attention and pointed to her to let her know, put the book down and pay attention. That is why he is there.
It was so funny when Andy said, Morgan Fairchild, and running off her accomplishments and told her thank you and then went to TFW. Kate Gosselin, of CouponCabin blog. He didn't even mention Kate Plus 8. Maybe that was before she got that show. But you could tell she didn't like that.
Bwahaha. The great thing about Morgan, she saved her own life. She thought, I can't let them see me scared so every time they said something, she said she would make a crack and be funny, this went on for a while and then they told the cabby to stop and they got out and said, hey your funny, we are not going to do anything to you. She took a cab to her sisters and didn't leave for 3 days.
I think this is where her acting skills really paid off, God love her!
Aren't some of those large jury awards reduced by the trial judge or after appeal? The amount does seems excessive to me, but I applaud the fact that the hotel was found (ir)responsible.
Jane said...
Read an interview in the New York Times with Julian Fellowes, Downton Abbey's executive producer, and he stated that there was a 65% chance of a Downton movie, that he very much wants to do it. The problem is that the actors are now in such high demand that it will be hard to round them all up at the same time. Let's hope it works out.
Jeanne said...
I saw an article saying that observers think Kendra Wilkinson had her implants reduced. Think Kate will copy her or are her breasts the right size for Steve?
foxy said...
Redbird, the shout out to Milo was on Dr. Drew when she was making the rounds in LA in that silver metallic mini dress with her "road manager" and she was trying to cry about all of her trials and tribulations.
redbird said...
Oh, thanks, foxy!
I will try to find it!
FlimsyFlamsy said...
Jeanne (#171), and yet TFW has yet to own up to the implants. She said her "good bra" was responsible. And when asked directly about surgery, she said something like, when would I have the time to do that? She forgets America watched her get a tummy tuck, which had a long recuperative time, while she had 6 toddlers and the twins were very young. She was shown being waited on hand and foot by Dr. Glassman's wife after free surgery, while Jon was home with the kids.
fidosmommy said...
Oh, I thought the Milo shoutout was a lot earlier than the Dr. Drew interview. I admittedly have memory problems though.
I think that's what she wants everyone to think. Milo is cunning. She said nothing when Kate was sick, and it would't surprise me if there are no birthday wishes from her. At some point, she always comes back, hints at where she was (her health or something else), keeps hinting, but nobody ever asks her about it or is concerned.
Maybe they brought Edyta back to dance with Geraldo because she is the master of dancing around her partner while he does very little. Just what Geraldo needs. I'm not dissing her; Edyta is gorgeous. She just needs some help from Derek in creating the illusion that her partner is dancing.
Hey, at least he married her!
JFK was no saint when it came to cheating on his wife, one of whom, Judith Campbell Exner, allegedly was the mistress of a mafia boss, Sam Giancana. She admitted that she was pregnant with JFK's child and had an abortion. Harding's mistress had an out-of-wedlock child, Elizabeth Ann Briton (interesting book, "The President's Daughter." I have the first edition copy), FDR had his Lucy Mercer, LBJ had Alice Glass, etc. etc. I'm sure that there are more that we just haven't heard about. Then there's Slick Willie...
I just read one of the latest articles about Hillary, that she herself wrote and sent 104 classified e-mails and used Katespeak to get around it. Yep. Just the kind of person we want as President. My gosh, the scandals and lies in her past (and present) are enough to make you bang your head on the wall. The Clinton Foundation is now under investigation.
Not much of a choice in this election, I'm afraid.
The same and much, much more could be said about the Clintons and yet it doesn't seem to be a topic brought up anymore or an issue for voters.
I don't know how relevant someone's personal relationships, however dysfunctional, are to the presidency.
