Blogger and reality star Jaime Primak Sullivan defends exploiting her children

Facing mounting criticism from her readers after posting daily updates and photos of her young children, the Yahoo mommy blogger and 'Jersey Belle' star lashes out.

Sullivan says it's okay to exploit her kids. Here, we respond to her flawed and misguided reasoning.

  • Sullivan says the support of strangers is a beautiful thing.

Our response: It's normal for human beings to want to feel loved and supported. However these emotions almost all feel deeper and more sincere when they come from people you have a stake in, namely family and friends. Most strangers probably have all good intentions when it comes to offering support to another stranger, but how do you distinguish the good from the unhealthy or even sinister, especially when the support is for your little children? And why aren't these strangers concentrating their support on their own friends and family?

  • Sharing her children's humor brings joy to her 100,000 readers, which in turn brings Sullivan joy.
Our response: Again we ask, wouldn't the emotion of joy be felt much deeper if it were a grandparent, husband, friend or sibling your children brought joy to? What's more, children should not be brought into the world to bring other's joy. That puts too much of a burden on a young child who will not always feel silly or joyful. A child needs to be free to experience a variety of emotions, including getting angry and acting out, without the pressure put on him to make others happy all the time, much less complete strangers.
  • I never post if they ask me not to, Sullivan says.
This is good I suppose. However, it's not enough. The Sullivan children are not teenagers like the Gosselin twins, getting to an age where they fully understand what they want the public to see and not see. They are only seven, six, and four years old. None of them are even remotely old enough to understand the implications of posting a photo on social media. They are not old enough to even be told about what physical and emotional dangers could befall them from such posts, let alone capable of understanding those dangers. Sullivan needs to be the adult here and make these adult decisions for them instead of burdening them with decisions they are not old enough to understand. Sullivan also needs a much better understanding of her children's emotional and cognitive development before burdening her children with the complex decision of whether something should be posted on social media.
  • The risk the children might someday look back on what Sullivan did and resent it are not any greater than letting a child play football, go trick-or-treating at night or to a sleepover, or letting a child ride a bicycle down the street.
Not knowing how her kids will feel someday, it's hard to compare risks. The risks may be the same. They might be less, they might be much more. It will depend on her individual children.  However the risks Sullivan compared social media to have a very important distinction. Those other risks all enhance childhood to a degree so important that it's worth any negligible danger. Those risks all promote a child's social and emotional development. It's important for children to strike out into the world and learn how to navigate it, whether that's on a bicycle or at a friend's house, or playing a team sport.

Social media, in striking contrast, does not provide any benefit to her children. Social media does not make her children's lives any better or worse. It certainly makes Sullivan feel better. It clearly justifies her, makes her feel important, makes her feel validated, and is financially lucrative. But her children reap none of these benefits. They're just kids, too young to feel the complex emotional gratification Sullivan does after every "like".

  • Sullivan believe the risk of pedophiles coming after her children is unlikely and overstated.
Why take the risk at all when there is no benefit to them to plaster them all over social media?

  • As a parent, Sullivan has a "given" right to decide what's best for her children.
She does. And when she chooses to make those rights public, readers have a right to criticize it.  As one comment said so pointedly on Sullivan's blog post, "The real reason(s) that you let people watch your kids online is for the money and because you want to be popular."

Final thoughts. As for the #noshameparenting hashtag, talk about confusing the issue. No one is asking anyone to feel shameful about parenting. We're simply asking that parenting be done in private. What's particularly frustrating about this situation is that Sullivan is a smart and savvy businesswoman who has made it on her own. She spent years in Los Angeles as president of a highly successful PR firm for some of the hottest bars and nightclubs, and recently started venturing into movie production. Her husband is a high powered lobbyist  She doesn't "need" to exploit her children to be successful. Due to the Sulllivans' hard work and success, their children's privacy rights can be protected without need for them to earn the family's paychecks for their parents. We urge the Sullivans to give their children that right.

Did anyone catch "The Good Wife" last night?
Very interesting and apropos. A mother photographer/artist took nude photos of her young kids and displayed them as "art" and the now adult son didn't want his nude photos out there for everyone to gawk at.
The mother was a total narc and just didn't get that the photos could be fodder for child porn sickos.
This blogger mommy-like most blogger moms- has an unhealthy need for attention and has a Messiah complex.
If strangers came up to my kids I'd feel very frightened and would quit putting them out there. The face that this pleases this mom indicates she isn't right in the cabeza.

She was moved by an encounter I think most mothers would be completely creeped out by.

You know, the fans themselves need to get a grip. Don't approach someone's KIDS, tears streaming down your face, telling them how much they mean to you. Kids can't process something like that, especially from a complete stranger.

They all say the same thing....I never post (film, etc) If they ask me not to. I seem to remember signs on the twins' bedroom door and I clearly remember one of the boys telling the cameras to go away because he was having a secret moment with one of his brothers about a toy (or something like that). Funny how that works because they continued to film without missing a beat.

Over and Out, that's just your Katespeak again. It said "bra" size 34. It didn't give the cup size though!

It's so hard to reconcile this woman when there are such good parents out there who are doing what's best for their children's emotional development. Like these parents of the twins on Modern Family:

There are also a lot of YouTubers who show their family life including kids' routines and private moments. They put a lot of personal information out there and open their kids up to being criticized, ogled by perverts and their privacy & safety compromised. Not even any money in it for the children. Not sure what laws govern amateur filming of minors.

The kids are arguably working if their parents film them every day. Yes, people who sit there and watch other people's children are strange.

Not only that but I'm realizing how self absorbed it sounds what he's saying. As if her kids have some sot of special corner on helping the downtrodden feel better about themselves. She DOES have a Messiah complex. It's just a six year old like any little kid who get boogers in his nose and screams murder when he doesn't get his way.

She has a youtube channel too, and she's not all that. Each video only has about 100 hits. No one wants to hear you blather on for eight minutes about some old boyfriend who is being mean.

Yep. I saw that, but her measurements are listed as 34-25-32. When you measure your bust don't you measure the fullest part and not put the tape measure below or above them? If so, wouldn't that be 54! As for waist measurement, what waist?

¨If strangers came up to my kids I'd feel very frightened and would quit putting them out there. The face that this pleases this mom indicates she isn't right in the cabeza.¨

===

Bottom line is that she is doing this for herself and trying to justify the exploitation and throwing out whatever rationalizations she can come up with to see what sticks. She is not playing with a full deck. Fans who want to see other people's kids and have no respect or regard for their privacy are thinking only about themselves and clearly something is off with all of them. Remember the Alexis fan who had a tattoo? ¨Normal¨ people just do not do this, especially when it comes to the children of a celebrity. Something is missing in their lives that would make them jump for joy (or cry) when actually meeting them and it is so bewildering that these ¨celebrity¨parents just cannot get that through their thick heads. Are they really that stupid?

¨Logic is the battlefield of adulthood¨ (Lt. Columbo) and these sheeple are still in the first week of boot camp.

I was watching a documentary on the murder of Rebecca Schaeffer, and the narrator commented that the big difference between a casual fan and an obsessed/stalkerish fan is that the casual fan admires the celebrity, is satisfied with an autograph or a meet and greet, and goes about his/her daily life.

An obsessed fan truly believes that they are part of the celebrity's family and inner circle, speaking for the celebrity, convinced that he/she knows the celebrity and that no matter what, they will always be there for the celebrity and will do anything to support them. I thought...wow...Milo! In one of her tweets she posted:

Fired Up 4 Kate @MiloandJack
@Kateplusmy8 The signature of your life is always being busy! I'll be here when you come back! :)

Fired Up 4 Kate @MiloandJack
Your silence tells me you are working extra hard! Soon your success will speak & make all the noise that matters! :) #CarryOn @Kateplusmy8

If that celebrity has children, obsessed fans often think of those kids as their own and they are convinced that they are the second parent, believing that they know the kids and follow their development. According to the narrator of the documentary, the children are often secondary in importance and therefore the fan supports anything that the celebrity does as a parent, even if it involves exploiting the children.

It's a perfect assessment of Kate's fans. It is also very creepy and I would pull my kids out of the public eye faster than you could say ¨Gladys.¨

I never heard of this woman until this post, and I find her arguments
pathetic. I think we're living in a disturbing time, with people
measuring their value in numbers -- hits, likes, views, followers,
etc. It's bad enough when adults do it, but to add kids into the
mix? To dangle them like carrots to get more attention, and
pretend there aren't people out there in cyberspace with vile
intentions?

I agree that it's never a child's job to make an adult happy. And
for this woman to crow about this, at the same time getting
reflected glory as their mommy, seems creepy to me. What
every happened to the sanctity of childhood? Who is
protecting these children's interests and privacy? Yikes.

Isn't this akin to putting the needs/wants of strangers ahead of the well being of your own children. It is not ANY child's responsibility to "lift the hurting hearts" of ANYONE, least of all strangers.

I understand that with the advent of global communication came the concept of a global community. Though being able to instantly send messages round the planet certainly has world wide benefits, surely there should exist some boundaries.

Even more so when it comes to children who, for a lack of understanding, can not possibly consent to such an invasion of their privacy.

It does sound like this woman is more in it for her own ego than anything else. It's as though being a mom to 3 beautiful children just isn't enough. She, like Kate, needs strangers to tell her what a good job she's doing.

I'm not inclined to lump all Mommy bloggers together though. With a child on the autism spectrum and choosing to homeschool, I found a great deal of support during those early years communicating mostly through our blogs.

Apples and oranges or just a really grey area?

It appears that her real job is posting constantly on twitter, facebook & instagram & her twitter bio says she's a "celebrity blogger".

Her children are being used in her agenda to be a celebrity. Very sad.

I totally agree. I took a look a Jaime's FB page and at some of the comments on her posts.

Several people told her how wonderful it is that she posts the videos and how the videos make them feel as if they're part of her family. This is just one example--"I feel honored to be included in your circle of extended family, to be included in watching them grow up!"

Someone even posted that they were disappointed that there was no video posted one day because they needed their daily "fix". Someone else said that they wake up to watch her #cawfeetawk videos, and go to sleep watching the kids' videos.

And then there is the classic line about people who think she is wrong posting videos of her children-- "I believe the ones who complain are ones who are jealous of what you have."

I will never understand why people need to watch the lives of children who they do not know and have no relationship with. Yet that is what Jaime, Kate, the Duggars, etc. count on to reap the fame and adoration they obviously need.

Bottom line is that they exploit their children and sell them to strangers. They're just as bad as child traffickers, IMO.

That line is getting so old. For the love of pete, since when does criticism equate jealousy?

The fact is, it is infinitely more likely that it's the people fawning over a stranger's children that are the ones who are actually jealous and want what they have, not the people standing up and saying this is wrong.

If you're making money by posting videos of your too-young-to-understand-or-consent children on-line, then you are most assuredly exploiting them. All the rationalizing and justifying in the world doesn't change that very simple FACT.

Jealous, no...not by a freakin' long shot. I just happen to think your kids deserve better than to line your pockets and be used as fodder so strangers can feed your ego.

Upcoming this season on Law and a Order: SVU

In the episode "Patrimonial Burden," the squad investigates a famous reality TV family of 10 children after it's discovered the virtuous 13-year-old daughter is pregnant, according to the show's description of the episode.

So, not just the Duggars but a few allusions to the story of Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol Palin, whose unwed teen pregnancy embarrassed mom during her 2008 vice-presidential race. (Bristol is about to be an unwed parent again with baby number two on the way.)

The Duggar-related plot, as it is with many of the show's plots, is about hypocrisy, sex and secrecy, plus possible crimes.

I think that Milo actually believes that Kate reads and appreciates every tweet and platitude that she sends her way, but the reason she doesn't respond to Milo is that she is so busy ¨working¨ and taking care of her kids. If she is absent, Milo accepts this, but keeps pestering her anyway, justifying Kate's lack of tweets because she is such a very important person. She cannot see the forest for the trees. She is into this Celebrity Worship and there is no escape, even if she checked into an addiction program. People throw out a hashtag and collect an assortment of wacky tweets. If you search the hashtag you can see all the tweets that were submitted.

In this case the hashtag is: #LostaBetandNow... and you have to fill in the blank. For instance, I could say... #LostABetandNow I have to wear my underwear outside of my pants.

Besides the "cuff on the side of her head" someone suggested, I believe this woman should have to do what I and many others have had to do for years and years. At random times we were called over to the secretary's desk and had to look at the mug shot of someone and read and remember his name and sign off that we were aware that this pedophile was in the area of the elementary school where we worked.
Yes, it happened all too often. And this was in a community that has very, very little illegal activity and almost no violence.
And to think those were the only ones who were caught! How many others are out there?
People need to keep children out of social media and tv. I don't care if they "consent" to filming. They are not old enough to give an informed consent. They can't even go on a school field trip by giving their own consent. And they are well supervised there.
What is she thinking? Seems like self serving over safety.

Too bad so sad (#46), thanks for sharing that info about your own

parents sound like idiots. Admin has used the example of letting
a child decide what's right for them, and the kid choosing things
like ice cream for dinner, or staying up all night. Remember
TFW's annual "vote" to see if her kids still wanted to film --
while they were still drinking from sippy cups?

It's such a ridiculous argument you just have to laugh.

I guess the'y've never heard of something called MOPS. Or calling up your girlfriend when or mother when the color of your baby's poo is scaring you. Or heaven forbid putting your pediatrician on speed dial.

Also, don't substitute current, group-think zeitgeist for common sense, or for professional mental health advice for that matter.
These mom bloggers take all the positive affirmations and use them to confirm that what they're doing is right, and to further push back into the deep, dark recesses of their minds, the very real and not esoteric dangers of putting their children out there for public consumption.
As Admin mentioned, there are other resources for moms to share and get support. Heck, my mom was a part of a mom's club that met once a month, rotating different hostess/house party assignments.
They formed real, live friendships and inexplicably, didn't need anonymous cyber strangers to make it through the day.

Not to mention, how do these moms tell if they're being catfished?

Ben and Jessa Seewald appeared at the Southern Women's Show in Birmingham, AL this past weekend and TLC was there to film it. Someone who attended posted a picture of a notice from Figure8 Films about filming on Jessa's FB page.

The notice reads:

"A TLC television series is being videotaped here today. If you enter this area, you consent to the use of your voice and likeness in the series and in any promotional or advertising materials for the series.

If you do not wish to be videotaped, please stay out of camera range. If you enter this area, you will be deemed to have waived any claim relating to the use of your voice or likeness.

Thank you for your cooperation."

It doesn't show exactly where that sign was posted and where that "designated" area was, but if you happened to be in the audience and just happened to be caught on film, that automatically means you gave consent?

What a way to get around having people sign consent forms just by making a blanket statement like that.

You've hit on an extremely important point about the internet. I think it was you or someone else who said you can always find support on the internet somewhere. There may be overwhelming backlash, but the support will be there somewhere too.

You can find people that love the color blue, you can find people that hate the color blue. You can find support for blanket training your child, even though the practice is generally regarded as child abuse. Because the internet is so vast you can lose sight of how people generally feel in real life, thus when you find that small pocket of support, even if it's up to 100,000 people, it's enough to justify yourself. We've seen the same phenomenon with Kate's fans. Kate is generally regarded by the public as the butt of the joke and a child exploiter with a gaggle of kids. But those fans have found each other and convinced themselves she's mother of the year. You cannot let yourself be persuaded that because you've found someone who agrees with your poor choices, they are okay. That's not how real life works and it should not be how it works on the internet. Yet Sullivan has done just that.

Sullivan has fallen into a very dangerous trap where she too has convinced herself, due to a small pocket of support that anyone could find somewhere on the internet and mostly just support her because they want to see more of her somewhat cute kids (questionable in and of itself), that what she's doing is okay. If she had more real life friends and family she listened to, she would get much better, more informed feedback about her choices.

In fact in her blog post, she admits her own mother-in-law has questioned her and been concerned about her over-sharing. Why in the world her relatives' opinion, someone who actually knows you and your kids, does not carry ten times' the weight of a bunch of strangers, is beyond me.

Now I know it's just a mother-in-law, lol, but STILL.

So there is a chance that Charlie will also outgrow the "nightly ritual" of internet filming, if she's allowed to do so.

The thing that cracks me up about these "mommy bloggers" is the fact that instead of spending time with the kid they popped out, they're spending time telling people how wonderful they are as mothers. Did none of these special little snowflakes babysit when they were growing up? Did none of them ever have to help with siblings? They act like they invented motherhood and are the only ones who've ever given birth. I've never seen such a lack of coping skills as I've seen with the 20 and 30 somethings who are now giving birth. It's bad enough with the first kid, but when the second child is born they can't handle it by themselves. They're off on maternity leave and can't manage a baby and a toddler all day. In the famous words of a mother with zero coping skills: "I just don't get it."

Granted, we could see the cameras filming, and they scanned the audience, but there was no way to opt out of being filmed. When the shows aired, there were we. Not that we objected, but it wasn't protocol at that time. There was no getting away from being filmed because it took place during the shows, and notices wouldn't have meant anything unless one wanted to miss the event which, of course, we did not.

I agree. I attended a charity event that was being filmed for a snippet on a national news channel. I had a brief conversation with a crew member. There were no notices posted. I asked him how we knew if we were included in parts that were shown on television. He was a bit snippy and said that we could see the camera, and if we did not want to be shown, then to stay out of the range of the camera. Well,, the camera was zooming everywhere, and if we happened to be in that area, we would be seen on the news coverage. I suppose you could duck and hide under a table, but that would really look suspicious!

This could be embarrassing if you were caught on film with someone other than your spouse! Not me, of course!

I usually avoid commercials like the plague and mute them. The one that really gets under my skin is Liberty Insurance where the guy says his insurance company wouldn't give him the full cost of his car after a collision. This jerk is surprised to find out that his car depreciates before its first oil change. Even I know that a car depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot.

That said, there is one that I really do like. It's the Amazon Prime commercial where the cutest little Maltese pup has a blue cast on his leg and the owner calls Amazon to order a carrier, straps it to his own chest so the dog can get out and about. There are no words in the commercial. There is no need for them. The accompanying song is ¨I Was Born Under A Wandering Star.¨ The dog is absolutely adorable, and the person or persons who thought this one up earned their pay.

That's all. Back under the veranda for some liquid refreshments.

I have Liberty Mutual car insurance. They do give new car replacement if your new car is totaled. Not all companies do, so they are making that point. It is an important feature for some, especially those who buy a new car every 2-3 years. I know many people who do that just because they like new cars. Me? I don't buy new cars, so it's a moot point for me.

I could take her or leave her, but with the Youtube young man who passed away, I think she's way off base suggesting suicide or drugs or even murder. Apparently she doesn't know any teenage boys you try to wake up early in the morning. They act like that. Really super tired, even out of it. There was nothing abnormal about his behavior, and later in the day he perked up and was acting goofy and typical of a teen.

In fact I found her hyper-analysis of a teenage boy's yawns a little disrespectful to the deceased. He JUST died.

What's more, put the breaks on a conspiracy theory for a second. It's very likely an autopsy will be done, which will either confirm or deny he died of heart failure and put a rest to it. Sadly, heart failure can happen at any age. Kids drop dead from this sometimes, it's usually congenital and it's sudden and awful. Quite bluntly, what on earth would be the motive for the family to hurt him when he was their youtube star making them bank? I don't like that his family exploited him when he was alive, but it doesn't mean they're not entitled to a little peace, and respect, to mourn.

Sheepless In Seattle said...

----------------

I don't watch much television on a regular basis, even if I am sleepless, so I don't know how often they are shown, but I will take your word for it!

I would seriously think twice, though, about having LM even if they offer new car replacement. The sweet little thing who says that she tapped the bumper of the station wagon and that it is no big deal and is disgusted with the insurance company because everyone makes mistakes is a real air-head. Rear-ending a car IS a big deal. A driver should have the car under control at all times. What if there were a baby in the backseat? I would think it would be a very big deal if that baby were injured. The ignorance in those commercials is scary and the one who named her car ¨Brad¨ reminded me of the guy who was addicted and in love with his car. I don't remember the name of his car, but I do remember him humping it!

I guess the reason I really like the dog commercial is because we once had an adorable little pup that looked so much like that one. She was a Christmas present and her name was Marley...named after Jacob Marley because she was as white as a ghost. Ironically enough, she came to us on Christmas when she was eight weeks old, and passed away on Christmas Eve from bone cancer, a decade later. I really miss her.

I bet that little Emily thinks that her relationship with Kate and the kids is such that to tweet them is beneath her, and it wouldn't surprise me if she sent them a special gift and called them.

I watched the last 15 minutes of the Little Family.

Wow. That mother is just rude and miserable. The dad was trying to glue a toy box/coffee table for a friend so he could pass it down to his grandkids. All the kids were circling around him outside the garage like little howlers, one question after the other. He couldn't get anything done. He was stressed out because the mother wasn't doing anything to help get them under control.

Then she finally said, Is there anything I can do to help? He didn't answer her, just kept saying things he had to do. Not once did she say, hey, I'll take the kids inside so you can get this done because he had a deadline to get it done.

The grandmother and uncle came and got the kids so the parents could get some time to breathe. Then they showed the parents on the back deck and the dad was talking and the mother said, be quiet and just enjoy the scenery.

It was so hard to watch. You could cut the tension with a knife.

But then, after a while, he stopped loving it.
Filming was up to 18 hours a day, seven days a week, for months on end.
‘They want you to be at your wit’s end and tired,’ explained Khloe, ‘I think he (Lamar) thought we could send the cameras away whenever you want, but you can't"

"‘I don’t do Twitter,’ he protested, ‘I don’t Instagram. I don’t believe in following people around. It just came with it. Me and that girl fell in love.’
Fine words, but utterly disingenuous.
Lamar pursued and embraced his reality TV fame with the kind of ravenous hunger he used to pursue victory and titles on the basketball court.
The problem though is that you have to lay yourself bare to it, warts (sometimes literally…) and all.
There’s no ability to control the beast. Your life is public property, your human qualities and frailities exposed to millions.
Everywhere you go, everyone knows everything about you."

"It takes a very advanced degree of narcissism and the hide of a thousand rhinos to deal with that kind of scrutiny.
Lamar, unlike the family he married into, was too sensitive, too vulnerable."

"The sad, tragic truth about Lamar Odom is that he couldn’t keep up with the Kardashians.
And he should never have tried."

I have known people who bought property from a close family member, in one case it was a grandmother, for only ten dollars. The reason it was purchased instead of given as a gift had something to do with taxes, or so the rest of the family couldn't challenge the sale, or something like that. It was long ago, can't remember details. Often in property transfer section of paper there are things like this listed. It's a public transaction, property records are available to view at the appropriate office all over the country.

I remember a couple of years ago testing was done on some of the male enhancement pills and it turned out many of them contained Viagra or some other real ED drugs in higher doses than prescription pills. Using the term "herbal" seems to be nothing more than a way to get drugs that should be regulated by the FDA onto store shelves without review.

The one commercial that never fails to amuse me is the Esurance 'sorta Marge' with the beauty queen driving the forklift.

Ah yes, Caitlin Upton, Miss S. Carolina 200(something). Poor girl got completely befuddled and sweetly spit out nonsense about education.
She had us all over the world sphere without globes or maps. She knew she was stuck but just kept talking. So that commercial for a beauty queen on a forklift is sadly hysterical.

Sleepless, I am really sorry my insurance company causes such a reaction for you! :) I think the ad about the fender bender is talking about small stuff that is still eligible for a claim. A dent to a fender (caused by any number of circumstances, including backing up in a parking lot) or a broken window (which happened to me when I was in the center lane between 2 semis - sucked a side window right out of my minivan!) or a rock flying into the windshield, etc. Anyway, LM is saying your rates will not go up on your first claim. Does anyone know how many people don't file claims and either live with the damage or pay to get it fixed so their insurance doesn't cost more? I don't know myself, but I bet there are plenty besides those whom I know personally. It is not a feature everyone wants or needs, for sure. But LM is trying to convince people who don't think about replacement costs, raised rates, or who travel the globe without maps or atlases ;) that these are things they should think about. Not everyone does. Just ask Caitlin if she did.

Note: I wrote this with absolutely no argumentative intent, honest. I apologize in advance if it doesn't come across that way.

I may be way off base, but I think what Sleepless is talking about is the stupidity of what is being put out in the commercial. The gal who says it is no big deal that she tapped the car in front of her (she doesn't say that she backed into a sign), or the guy who didn't know that his car depreciates are really dingbats. Who doesn't know that a car depreciates before the first oil change? It decreases in value as soon as you become the owner of that vehicle.

Wouldn't they be able to read it on their policy...what it covers and what it doesn't? If they can't read or understand printed info, aren't agents there to answer questions?

If a company wants to explain how their insurance works (replacement), then they need to come up with new writers who do not portray their actors to look stupid. It does not speak well for the company. Just my two cents. I agree with Sleepless! Those Liberty commercials get on my nerves!

888888888888888888888888888888

That was my first thought.

When my brother was killed, the guy who hit him from behind sued my dad (the car was in my dad's name). My dad's attorney suggested that the home and car be put in my mother's name to prevent them from being seized in a lawsuit but they had to wait a year after the suit was filed to do the transfer. This was a long, long time ago and laws may have changed or be different depending where you live.

So, putting it in Anna's name was out of the question? What loving, trusting people they must be. I am purely speculating, so don't jump all over me. Nothing that family does surprises me.

With regard to Liberty Mutual and replacement cost coverage: I suspect that what they are describing is not a standard part of their insurance, but is an add-on that costs extra. I also suspect that it is not unique to Liberty Mutual.

In British Columbia, our provincial insurer ICBC offers a limited depreciation endorsement and a replacement cost endorsements as add-ons to collision insurance. The replacement cost endorsement means you get a brand new car (or cash equal to what you paid for your car) if your car is badly damaged; it's only available on new cars for the first 3 years of their "lives". They recommended it (and we took it) when we bought a brand spanking new car. Alas, she is now "too old". How the mighty are fallen. It seem like only yesterday...

-----------------------------
I think they've badly misinterpreted what's happened.

This is the hearing over the alterations Kim ordered made in the marriage licenses. Her attorneys are arguing that the governor says the altered licenses are valid, so they're A-OK. Will she next order the clerks to sign them Mickey Mouse and write "burn in hell, FAG" on them? And argue that's perfectly acceptable as well?

It seems to me the licenses should have the name of the county on them, so anyone looking at one will know where to verify that it is a real, registered, license, and verify that the marriage actually took place and was registered. The deputy clerks should also be able/required to put their name and title on them. Because Mickey Mouse isn't allowed to issue licenses, and not all notary publics are allowed to issue licenses, but deputy clerks are.

Kim Davis has not caved at all. She is just recognizing that licenses have been issued and arguing that she can order the deputies to put anything she wants on them. Because she's so special, don't you know. With her DM-ing God and all.

Tell him to make sure that he keeps all documentation to support his claim. Insurance adjusters can be real beasts. They will demand proof of injury, including MRIs, physicians reports, documentation from physical therapy, loss of income, and whatever. They will offer to settle at a ridiculously low price and a personal injury attorney will be needed. Of course, that comes out of your own pocket and his fees will be deducted when and if the case settles. If it doesn't settle and goes to trial, that could go on for months and even years and attorney's fees will continue to accrue. I believe that in most states there is a two-year statute of limitation on such cases. If you file too soon, the other insurance company will claim that you just want money; if you wait too long they will ask why you waited so long. If he doesn't have full tort, it will be a long and difficult road. Some exceptions apply, such that the other driver was under the influence and arrested or if he can prove that it was a serious injury and he needed hospitalization and is now unable to work.

So are you saying that if you buy a brand new $35,000 car and you total it, they will give you a brand new car with a sticker price of $35,000 regardless of how much mileage is on that car or the age of that car? Or do you just get the value of the car at that point? If it's the latter, isn't that pretty much standard with most insurance companies? I am not sure I am understanding this correctly.

Yep.

And to me this is all the same thing. But for some reason no shame mommies want a special little exception carved out for motherhood that doesn't allow for any feedback or criticism. What about fathers? Same veil for them? In any case, there is no justifiable reason for this shield that anyone's articulated. And in fact, you're walking a fine line where it's unsafe. Society needs to be free to criticize someone's parenting as everyone should be in the business of the protection of children.

From the Liberty Mutual Site

With Liberty Mutual's New Car Replacement, you don't have to worry about replacing it because you'll get the money for a brand new car - not just the depreciated value . It's a standard feature on all Liberty Mutual auto insurance policies.

Your policy deductible still applies, and coverage is for cars that are less than a year old, weren't previously owned, and have less than 15,000 miles on them. Leased cars and motorcycles are excluded. New car replacement coverage is not available in North Carolina and Wyoming.
------------------------------
So it only covers cars for one year. The optional ICBC coverage is for three years, more or less.

I hadn't heard of GAP insurance before it was mentioned here. It does sound like a good idea, even if you have Liberty Mutual, as it's quite possible to be underwater on a car loan after a year. Paying off the loan doesn't solve all your problems, as you would still need a car, but not having a car and still owing money on a wrecked car is adding insult to injury.

I hope somewhere in those Kardashian hearts they realize how they are responsible for this guy being depressed. So-called reality TV does nothing but ruin lives. Some people cannot cope being used and hung out publicly. The real tragedy is that he and Khloe were not officially divorced and the bitch is making medical decisions. I can just see them making an episode out if this and that may just bring down their nasty empire.

Since I ranted about the Kardashians, I'll give you some inside info about Bruce Jenner. I met him several years ago at a dinner where he had been hired to speak. I sat next to him. He did not act the least bit feminine. Instead of speaking on the subject matter he was supposed to, he spoke the entire time about his Olympic win.

This is my guess about him. He has been a cross dresser all his life. It does not mean you are a woman. I don't believe many Hollywood plastic surgery doctors have much in the way of scruples and Bruce, who craves attention, decided to embark on his transformation. If he had done this privately, I would feel differently, but instead went public with a reality show. You are supposed to undergo psych evals before the knife (and interestingly he kept his penis) so I think all those evals were bought and paid for too. I just never got the vibe nor witnessed anything feminine about him other than the plastic surgery to his face which was no different than what other Hollywood males have had done. This is just my opinion, no basis in fact.

The ACLU filed their motion several weeks ago, and her attorney's are just replying now? I think they wait until the latest story about Kim fades(the Pope) and then do something to get her name back in the press.

I don't think the Kim Davis thing is going to go away for a long time. Liberty Counsel is getting too much publicity from it and they want to keep her name out there.

So are you saying that if you buy a brand new $35,000 car and you total it, they will give you a brand new car with a sticker price of $35,000 regardless of how much mileage is on that car or the age of that car?
-----------------------------
You have to read the fine print they hide at the bottom of the screen. They will give you the amount to buy a new one if your old one was less than a year old and had less than 15,000 miles.

I've also seen advertisements where the insurance will give you blue book value for a car one year newer than the one you had.

It's all marketing though. The insurance companies are going to build the higher costs into higher premiums. You get what you pay for.

Wait, hasn't the son graduated from high school and moved into his own apartment? And isn't the daughter 17ish? Maybe the son is still home while going to college but I think that they're both old enough to get off to school on their own

&&&&

It's tweets like that that make me skeptical she even has kids.

Unless she's one of those extreme helicopter parents, her high school kids, one who is supposed to be in college and not even living there anymore, should have been getting themselves up and off to school pretty much on their own for years now. And do she and hubs work? You can't just oversleep. Why didn't they set an alarm like a responsible adult?

At that age most kids are going to say mom I'm fine, John's coming by to pick me up, or I'll get there myself. I got my lunch money myself or I made my lunch. At that age you'd be made fun of is mommy still "got you ready and off to school" every morning.

If she's still getting her kids to school, if that's true, she needs to think seriously about cutting the apron strings. In a few short years no one will get them off to their college classes. These are the kind of kids that walk in 20 minutes late every morning to their 8 a.m. English composition class because they've never actually had to get up and off somewhere on their own and have no idea how to budget their time and get their morning things done so they can get someplace.

Ivanka gave an interview. As usual, she's all class. Can we elect HER as president?

I had no idea Ivanka and Chelsea Clinton were such good friends.

So Kate still hasn't tweeted a word about the Donald running. At this point it looks like he's going to secure the nomination baring anything major coming up. He's leaps and bounds ahead of everyone. Is Kate too nervous to open up a political firestorm by offering her support or at least congrats, or is she still quite unaware of what's happening? Oddly enough I'm leaning toward the latter. I think she's not even paying attention, she's that out of the loop.

Admin (#163), I've doubted the existence of Gladys' kids for years.
If she was, in fact, the sort of helicopter parent who was still
supervising a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old getting to school,
I can't imagine how she'd have the energy and attention available
for the hero worship she exhibits towards TFW. A tweet from
TFW at any time of day or night elicits an almost immediate
response from her. Would a truly busy wife, businessperson,
and mother of 2 have that kind of availability?

From Radar:

In the weeks leading up to Odom’s overdose at a brothel, he had “pleaded with Khloe to stop having the production crew from KUWTK film their phone conversations,” an insider told Radar. “He wanted them to remain private. But he was powerless to stop it because Lamar had previously signed off on having phone calls recorded when he was married to Khloe, and part of the show.”

“Lamar had no idea that he was going to be Khloe’s storyline during the past season. She is always talking about how much she loves the guy, but has no problem exploiting Lamar for her gain. How low can Khloe go? Lamar would call her sobbing about losing his best friend this past summer, and the first thing she thinks is to document it?”

Last night's episode of The Good Wife had a very interesting "case of the week".

The case Alicia picks up in bail-bond court this week is a fascinating one — her client is Eric, a young man whose photographer mother took nude pictures of him and his sister as children. The photos were on display at the Chicago Museum of Fine Arts, where they're about to become a part of the permanent collection, and Eric took a hammer and bashed them off the wall.

Alicia quickly offers to represent Eric not just in the matter regarding his vandalism, but in getting an injunction against the museum exhibit on the grounds that he never gave consent for the photos to be taken.

Read the full recap here:
http://www.vulture.com/2015/10/good-wife-recap-season-7-episode-2.html

The Good Wife can be a bit much for those who don't watch it regularly because of the ongoing story lines of politics and legal firm politics. This is a good recap as it puts all that stuff at the end and you can stop reading when you get to that part.

------------------------------

If she is not a catfishing old man in a facility somewhere and does have kids, she may be such an overbearing helicopter parent that she gets up with them, makes sure that they are dressed appropriately, gives them the orders of the day before she gets them off to school. Perhaps this is why they might want to ignore her, have no time for her and therefore she turns to Kate and Twitter to get her attention fix. Can you imagine having someone who pesters relentlessly and is so annoying and nosy being your parent? Remember the friends or relatives who left in the middle of the night with no forwarding address or phone number?

I read that even though Khloe & Lamar both signed divorce papers, there is a court backlog & they are still legally married. That's how Khloe can be in his hospital room, possibly be making medical decisions for him & self-promote the hell out of the situation.

Radar:

Odom “has a $10 million life insurance policy, and under terms of the prenup, Khloe was to remain the sole beneficiary, even if the couple were to divorce,” a source with knowledge of the situation told Radar.

There will be a legal fight before K-hole gets a dime if Odom dies.

@Kateplusmy8 The weather up there is supposed to be stormy/snowy this weekend. How is the weather right now where you are in PA?

LOL!! No, sweetie, unless the forecast changes drastically in one day, we are supposed to have a beautiful sunny fall weekend with highs in the 50s, according to the local noon weather report.

Where do they come up with this stuff?

The Lamar Odom situation sounds so sad. Something really bad happened to him, very likely resulting from the drugs he took.
Washington Post has good article, those "herbal viagra" products have been subject of FDA warning and many actually contain real viagra. Cocaine alone can cause strokes and heart attacks.
Here is link to article.

Milo getting her kids off to school...geez!

I would imagine that to any teenager, and especially if Gladys is the parent, they think of her as a hulking behemoth and they got themselves off to school without her hovering over them, high-fiving each other as they got out the door! I am chuckling just thinking about it.

That is...if she has kids. Of course, they could be her grandchildren. Who knows?

Robert thought she was OJ's, but I don't think any DNA was ever done. I don't see any resemblance at all to OJ. It was rumored that Kris had quite few affairs back then, and if I remember correctly, one of the potential fathers was her hair stylist, Alex Roldan. He is a big guy and she sure looks a heck of a lot more like him than OJ!

Ha! You got that right! The high tomorrow, according to the local forecast, is 66 degrees and sunny, and cooler on Saturday and Sunday. I am trying to remember the last time it snowed when temperatures were in the 60s! Not in my lifetime, and probably never!

Watch Milo hop on this and tell Kate to be very careful driving in a foot of snow this weekend because she is the sole parent of eight kids.

The rumor has been around for a long time that OJ is Khloe's father. A while back, I think Radar, had a picture of Sydney Simpson and you would swear it was Khloe. Without make-up on she looks a lot of OJ. If you put the no makeup picture next to the full face makeup picture you would not believe it is the same person.

I think it is disgusting that the Kartrasians all jetted straight to Las Vegas for Lamar when they have been trashing him for a couple of years on TV. Now all of a sudden they are inconsolable. Sure were a lot of cameras following them.

The commercials that get to me are the ones on KYW talk radio. They play the same corny/joke or scripted commercials over and over til you have them memorized. "I think it's time to talk about dad" "yes, we've been worried about him for a while now"

TLC recently announced that it’s going to air the first of multiple specials centered on Jessa and Jill Duggar later this year, and some Duggar detractors are trying to hit TLC where it hurts by targeting the companies that advertise on the TLC network. The Cancel the Duggars and Contacting Sponsors #Nomoreduggars Facebook pages are encouraging critics of the Duggar family to pressure advertisers into opting out of airing ads during Jessa and Jill Duggar’s TV specials.
According to Starpulse, the anti-Duggar campaign is paying off in a very big way — almost 180 companies have confirmed that they won’t be advertising during the TV specials. The companies that have jumped ship include Crayola, Hidden Valley, KFC, CVS, Nestle, Clorox, Little Debbie, Jimmy Dean, Lysol, Durex Condoms, Arm & Hammer, Kleenex, and Cottonelle.

+++++++++++++++++

I am not sure I understand this. Why would the kids wear costumes while they are at their house? Kids don't wear costumes at home...they wear them to parties, festivals, or whatever. There is really no place to go trick-or-treating in her area because there isn't a neighborhood. If the kids are dressing up, it most likely would be for the school event, or Jon takes them trick-or-treating, or they go with other kids from school. She would have no reason not to let them wear costumes that Jon bought and for which he helped the kids shop.
