Jacob Roloff: "Just because the adults say it's what's best, doesn't mean it's what's best"

The youngest star of TLC's Little People, Big World, who has been filming the show since he was about seven years old, has been speaking out more frequently about his dislike of filming and his desire to protect other reality stars from a childhood played out on T.V. screens

Jacob recently met Jack Hamill, star of Our Little Family. Jacob had this to say on Instagram about the encounter (click to enlarge):

The post garnered more than 2,500 likes in less than fourteen hours. (On average, Jacob's Instagram posts get 800-1200 likes each).

Well done, Jacob, and keep speaking out. You have a unique perspective not many others can claim to possess

I have no idea. Trump may be a narcissist, but this woman is as bananas as they come. This is just my opinion, but I think that from Day One, when her husband was elected, she saw herself as the first woman President, and by gosh, she's in this for the duration, come hell or high water. I don't trust her any farther than I could throw her, and that isn't far. She does have balls, though.

&&&&

Yes, that's exactly what her motives were.

Basically what happened when he was elected is she was the de facto vice president. It's documented fact she basically took over the vice president's office and performed all the duties that Al Gore would normally have performed. Clinton put her in charge of a variety of things that no first lady has ever touched before. Even that was borderline criminal, as Americans did not elect HER as first lady, they elected somebody else. This was all part of her prep to be president after the Bush years. Then Obama came along and f-ed that all up. But patience is a virtue and here she is again, health issues notwithstanding, like a bad penny only with eight more years of shady baggage under her belt.

It was well known there was incredible tension between the Gores and the Clintons. Gore was just a figurehead, a necessary component to getting elected. No one they had much use for once it happened. Hillary kicked him out and took over his duties. They play it off like they get along famously, but that's nonsense.

I buy the Kirkland dog food. I did some online research and the quality was right up there, not the best, but pretty darn close with a high level of protein. It's wheat free and my boys took to it with no problems.

No, no, it's quietly morphed into "climate change" now.

Because turns out, the earth actually isn't warming at all and hasn't been for years. In fact, scientists are actually predicting a cooling in the coming years. Not due to pollution or man, but natural climate fluctuations.

Check out Phil Valentine's documentary on the global warming scam. It actually explains pretty well the science behind why it's not even occurring and certainly not caused by man, and all the scientists who don't agree whatsoever with Gore who have been shut up.

Valentine is a tree hugger environmentalist. He believes we should save our planet because that's just the morally correct thing to do because we should preserve and respect the beauty of our home, and so do I.

Al Gore is heavily invested in green initiatives. It's to his benefit everyone believes such things are necessary. More money for him.

The best way I like to explain global warming is to hold out a shoelace. Here is time. And here is us, a pinky tip on that shoelace. And here, this speck, is the amount of data we've ever collected on the climate. And based on that speck, we think we know what's happening in the future. The arrogance.

Anyone who broke federal law should be prosecuted.

Collin Powell explained that when he was using his email, nobody was using email. He felt that it was ridiculous no one was using email, so he took it upon himself to use it and encourage others to use it. He thought nothing of using a personal account, because it was like the 19th century. Or close enough!

Back then, there was no policy about email as they weren't even using email. Back then, we didn't think much about email "hacking" or have the foggiest idea about computer security. He may be exempt since the email program was in its infancy and firm policies weren't in place, and he was not on notice it could be a problem. Hillary and Jeb? Come on, it's modern times now and they both knew better. They know all about hacking, they both know full well how unwise it is to involve private accounts, and how shady.

What's more, Powell has personally tried to see if the emails could be recovered, and was told maybe, but unlikely. What's more, even emails ON the state department server back then are apparently long gone, so if ALL the emails are gone, what is the point in going after him for emails no one would have anyway?

He has been completely forthcoming. A little honesty goes far. In contrast, Hillary has personally sought to it her emails be erased. That is a crime. She has lied and misconstrued this situation at every corner, unlike Powell, who came out with it the second the issue came up way back when the story first broke. He was literally like here, here, over here, just wanna say Me too!

Yes, it's her delivery that I think turns off so many people and why she's so polarizing. You can see the huge difference between her smug interview about emails, versus Colin Powell's humble, forthcoming interview.

Powell is like this: Yeah, I did that too. I have a reasonable explanation why I did it, if you'll hear me out, and it was a different time back then, as you recall. I have made efforts to fix what I now know is an issue, but have not been successful so far. If you feel I've done something wrong, please let me know and we'll address it until this is corrected. The last thing I want to do is break the law. We will sit here and hash this out until it is fixed. If it is not fixed, I will suffer the consequences. I'm all ears.

I have a similar perspective to Aggiesmom (right name?). To me, it sounds like an absolute nightmare to come home from vacation and then get in the car and drive to the beach. For me, a little bit of crowds and chaos goes a long way. I am mentally exhausted by travel. I think they key is we're talking about 8 children. We heard some were at the beach and some were at the movies in Berks. Hopefully, they are finally being treated as individuals sometimes. If they were asked who wanted to go to NJ and who wanted to stay home, then that is fabulous. We don't know but it seems possible.

I don't personally believe that Jon is being a good example by moving in with his next girlfriend so quickly. I also don't believe Kate is being a good example by having an affair with a married man. I hope the kids can figure things out when they need to about relationships. I am hesitant to label one of them a "better" parent since there is so much we don't know.

Jeanne, I bet that if the kids were exhausted after a trip to Florida and didn't want to to the beach, Jon wouldn't have forced them to go. Kids bounce back much more quickly than adults. I know that when we return from a trip, in a day or so, they are ready to go again while all I want to do is relax and sleep. I always say that I need a vacation after my vacation.

I think that school would be normal for them. They are with their peers all day, doing whatever their friends do, going to classes, so I would believe that to them, this is very normal because it's what all kids do. If anything in their lives is normal by our definition of normal, it would be school.

I completely agree I bet they think it is normal. Usually children who have bizarre childhoods don't realize they did until they are adults, and then it can be very jarring and upsetting, with years of therapy and possibly a book deal to follow.

I used to have very long conversations with the children I cared for who were very wealthy and well recognized children of a celebrity. They loved to talk about what they were feeling and we would talk for hours about everything and anything.

It once came up one of them said off handedly something like I can't wait until Dad gets home tomorrow so we can get back to normal. I thought nothing was really normal about their lives from A to Z and so I asked them if they felt like they had a normal life or felt different from other kids, being they were celebrity kids. At the time they were very aware they were "celebrity kids." They said no not at all, their lives are as normal as can be.

These were kids who maybe saw their parents a couple times a week and had a mann with them every single day including weekends, spent Christmases and summers in Europe every year, were featured several times a year in magazine articles complete with several photoshoots, and had a parent who when they went out with they were constantly approached by strangers for a photo or to chat. That ain't normal, but it was to them. It was their life. They didn't know any better.

They darn well know now, and three of them decided to move very far away from this circus. I'm glad for them, they need the space and time to live in a normal place away from Hollywood.

Jon was 1/2, 50% of the reason these kids are so 'famous'. He's also done sleazy reality tv show and lists himself as a PUBLIC FIGURE on his FB DJ page.

I realize there are some diehard Jon sheeple. Yes, he appeared to be very engaging with his kids when living with Kate. Yes, he appeared to do most of the work when married to Kate. Yes, he seems to love his kids.

He's the lesser of two evils, imo. I ask that we do NOT silence the Jon commentary. Because that's what we'd be doing by 'banning' talk about the kids with Jon.

In my opinion only, I feel fine about saying that Jon is the better
parent because I think TFW is a horrible one. I've watched time
after time as she's been unkind, unsympathetic, dismissive, and disrespectful to her kids. She is a parental alienator -- allowing
fans to say absolutely horrible things about the father of her
children, and not doing a darn thing to stop them. She has
perpetuated the rumor that she does it all alone, when we
know -- from words out of her own mouth -- that that is not
true. She has made them work for almost a decade, and
I feel she's robbed them of their privacy, and in many ways,
their childhood.

True, Jon is now mostly out of the public eye, so we can only
speculate about what goes on between him and his children.
But the evidence I saw on the show was that he was a "hands
on" daddy. The children felt comfortable with him. He handled
the lion's share of their care, even though he had a full-time job.
And he seemed to delight in them in a genuine way that I just
don't see from their mother. Ever.

Why would anyone think pollution is a scam? It is tangible and real, you can see it, smell it, breathe it--and we've done a lot to reduce it in recent years. L.A. apparently back in the day was a disgusting city full of smog. Now it's clean and beautiful and you can breathe every day easily. When I went to Cairo, I saw first hand what happens when a third world country doesn't keep their air clean. Pollution is bad there is no doubt about it, and we should do everything we can to make our air clean for us and our future generations. I do not believe, however that that is the CAUSE of a world wide "warming", and neither do many prominent scientists.

PJ you hit the nail on the head, a couple decades ago it was mass panic because everybody thought we were "cooling." Then it changed to warming. Then it just changed to "change." LOL. Right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.

The Valentine documentary explains it best---just because many people don't believe in the correlation between A and C, doesn't mean they don't believe A is happening or C is happening. Nor are they against a clean and beautiful environment. On the contrary, I am a tree hugger. The question needs to be asked why do we need a mass panic over tiny variations in temperature to kick people's butts into gear. Why can't people just respect that the planet should be clean and beautiful on PRINCIPLE, just BECAUSE it's right? And formulate sound clean policies based on values and morals, not pseudo science?

There's no parent-child intimacy with Kate. I think the mothers who think Kate is so great are just like her.
On the balance, I think Jon has been steadfast in protecting his children's privacy when they're with him. His public social media is not a place that he allows discussion of his family, which is refreshing when you read the hateful things said about Jon on her Twitter.

It's a disgusting city, and I got very sick there within days of being there. There is a constant layer of smog over the city, which is within sight of the pyramids. You have to stand with your back to the city to enjoy the pyramids.

I don't believe in scaring people into cleaning up with dire warnings of cooling, heating, etc. I do believe though in appealing to morality.

Lynn in RI........42 Regarding the kids abnormal existence, yes I agree with you that school would appear to be the most normal thing they have in their lives. But, while they are amongst their peers, my guess is that is where it begins and ends. My feelings are more around the restrictions their mother appears to impose on them. By keeping them as a tight unit, this seems to restrict extra carricular activities you would expect to hear more about, especially with 8 kids having varied interests. Other than Cara, has anyone heard of any organized sports or clubs the other kids are involved in?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I hope they do activities but I have to agree there is little evidence they do. If they do, Kate clearly never has much interest in it to find it worthy of a tweet. In this day in age where if they're out and about it's on social media, we have never once seen any social media posts about activities other than Cara's lacrosse.

Cara appears to do lacrosse, but couldn't have been on the summer team without missing a lot due to filming. She needs the summer practice if she wants a scholarship one day. It is easy to get left behind in your progression if you don't take part in those opportunities.

One of the biggest clues I've seen that shows these kids don't do much is how much Kate frequently tweets that they are all at home hanging around the house on the weekend.

Average kids these days don't really have lots of weekends like that available. Between sports, friends, church and other activities, it should be pretty rare for a family of eight kids to have a lazy weekend. There are too many lazy weekends Kate brags about to buy that they do that much.

As someone said above, I think we'd know if the kids got to participate in sports and activities. Who knows, maybe keeps Girl and Boy Scout participation on the down low, but I doubt it.
Remember the swapping rooms episode when the kids were showing off their musical instruments? I thought that was for the cameras. The kids barely looked able to hold them correctly, let alone play them.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The kids are at an age where other kids their age have social media and love to post anything and everything. I think that explains the uptick in social media posts about them. They're going to be out and about with other kids their age, and those kids are the ones taking the bad stealth photos, the upside down ones and ones shot from the hip, and posting them. It's hard to believe no one has tried to take a stealth photo at boy scouts, ski club, basketball, tennis, art class, or other activities.

Biggest clue for me is that they've been filming A LOT this summer, and well, really the past year.
There's no way the kids can participate in sports etc. when they film so much. It's a shame.
I know a lot of fans think that all the travel is a great education, but I really don't think the travel experience is the same when you're on a tight filming schedule.
The kids don't seem "wordly" to me, or more advanced for their age. Sort of the total opposite actually.
Having spent a week on vacation with family, including our nephews (8-16 yo), I was blown away by their intelligence and uniqueness- and emotional maturity.
They've had the individual attention they need and deserve and it shows in their growth.
I mean, light years ahead of the G's.
Other than accident of HOM birth, they are rather un-silver platish.

For me, another big clue that the kids don't do many, if any,
outside activities was when TFW declared that you won't see
her if you're not in her kitchen or the grocery store. An average
mother of 8 kids under 16 -- particularly an affluent one -- would
be in non-stop taxi mode, shuttling her kids from one activity to another. Tons of things to be involved in for both boys and girls -- soccer, baseball, dance, basketball, karate, art, theater, gymnastics, horseback riding, music, Scouts, and on and on. If any of those
things were going on, why is the only thing we've ever heard
about C's lacrosse games?

Can you please explain to me how pollution and climate change are completely disconnected? All of the green technologies and California's aggressive crack-down on the auto manufacturers are the reason that LA
is no longer smoggy. This same technology also lowers the greenhouse gasses that are thought to be responsible for climate change. What exactly is your point? That because there is some debate among scientists, we should disregard the whole issue? Or, is it because you don't like Al Gore?

Not only has clean energy policies cleaned up our air, it has reduced our reliance on foreign oil and provided jobs and spurred innovation--clean energy is good for the environment. And, perhaps one day, will stop the horrific fracking and environmental damage caused by the oil industry. Are you saying that this should stop? The argument that there are scientists that disagree sounds a lot like the old smoking ads that used doctors: "More doctors smoke Camels than any other brand".

Had virtually all research not come to a complete standstill for the 12 years we oil barons for a president, we would be a lot further along, and maybe could have some definitive answers.

The melting of the Arctic has already threatened some of the remote islands, as well as Venice, and will have a massive catastrophic effect as land ice melts and sea level rises. There are massive engineering projects to raise cities above sea level. Would it make more sense to you twiddle our thumbs waiting for 100% consensus! and deal with each problem individually, after the fact, or, to have a comprehensive plan that addresses the source of the problem?

As you pointed out in your original post, there is a moral obligation to protect our planet and keep it healthy. Whether you agree with the science or not, it is in all of our self-interests to continue efforts that will reduce pollution and protect the planet. We don't have to have consensus to do the right thing

Imagine if cancer were politicized like this....research would not be funded and innovation would be stunted.

Any kid serious these days about sports needs to be on at least one development team a year. Otherwise you're hopelessly behind, and any college scholarship is off the table.

Simple. There is pollution. There are insignificant changes in the earth's temperature throughout time. Sometimes it goes up, sometimes down.

There is no proof one causes the other.

We had an entire ice age in which not a single car was on the road. Changes in climate have happened throughout time without a single drop of pollution affecting it.

That does not, however, mean there is nothing wrong with pollution. It is a very bad thing.

She rarely sleeps past 4 a.m, is chewy and rambunctious and we have had to rearrange the house to avoid her eating everything - she's quite the shoe thief and loves a hand broom. She's cute, a little terrier mix, from NC. The training, expense, vet visits, well- is it bad to say I have not yet bonded with her? Re pollution, a friend flies to China every few months, and he says you can't even see Beijing from the plane, the pollution is so bad.
Interesting topics, I love to watch the Weather Geek show on Weather Channel to see them discuss all this stuff. And Weather Underground is going to have a new show too, what fun!

I think an interesting question is as a parent, would you allow your child to participate in the filming?
I'd be very conflicted as a parent.

)))))))))))))))

Nope. I wouldn't even be conflicted. My answer would be no. My kids would not be used for the entertainment of others, even though it's the G kids who are at the center of attention.

****************************************

My thoughts exactly. I don't understand why any parent would be conflicted. For me personally, it would be a no-brainer. Nope, not gonna happen on my watch.

First of all, filming aside, this is Kate we're talking about and there's no way I'd leave my kid in her charge, EVER.

Second, even if I did trust and like the parent, I certainly wouldn't allow my child to be involved in the filming of any "so-called" reality show.

One of the most ridiculous statements the sheep make is that, "you would do it (being exploit my children to become famous) too".

No, YOU would. The mere fact that you support this woman means you condone her actions. Actually, you not only condone but outright praise them in your tweets and posts.

Year after year, episode after episode, interview after interview, special after special...how can you stand witness and still think this woman is the pinnacle of motherhood?

No. Just no.

No, it isn't wrong. Your new pup has turned into a bigger project and expense than you anticipated. I can see where that might delay bonding, on the heels of losing your other pup. Sounds like you are doing everything possible to take care of this puppy. Bonding will happen when it happens....can't force it.

Excellent comments, Sheri.

I think it's the middle school mentality. Many of them have never grown up. Materialism is their priority and fame and fortune is everything. It's the gimme gimme fans who want what Kate has, or want to be just like her. They can't see the whole picture, and their own kids would be the means to their end, which is getting everything for nothing, and if that means putting your kids on display, then so be it. If it works for Kate, it should work for them.

Regarding immaturity among the fans, I was reading her timeline a bit ago and saw this...

I have no idea who this person is, but I will never understand how someone, perhaps a parent or grandparent, takes to Twitter with something like this. It's not funny and does nothing more than reflect a Mean Girls Middle School attitude. What would their children think? What would their grandchildren think?

I guess they just never grew up. When you think about it, it's kind of sad. Or, they could just be crying for attention, which really is pathetic. I don't know. I just don't get it and most likely never will.

I looked at it, and I didn't think it was all that funny. I guess it's because, like the poster said, it's immature and done to bait the non-fans. :::::::::::

"The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward laid it out Monday: “You’ve got a massive amount of data. It, in a way, reminds me of the Nixon tapes: thousands of hours of secretly recorded conversations that Nixon thought were exclusively his.”

Then came ABC News’ report that a backup server likely holds all the e-mails Clinton said she’d deleted — which could open up a whole new front in the probe.......

And that’s the heart of this mess: the remarkable arrogance with which Clinton puts herself above the law, about the rules that apply to everyone else — from her decision to use a private server in the first place, to her deletions, to the long refusal to turn the server over until the FBI declared a criminal investigation."

Be still my heart. I'll go to bed with a smile on my face tonight.

I don't know if this person is serious, or if this is sarcasm, but it's really funny. Right...a multitude of paps finds out that the kids are going on a bus trip to the Philadelphia Zoo. They follow the bus from Lancaster to the zoo, whip out their press cards to avoid admission costs, follow the kids through all of the exhibits, hide behind the giraffe house, pop out at the monkey cage, scaring the kids and making the trip miserable for everyone. Sure, they do. The kids are so much in media demand.

Why, then, aren't they "bombarded" at the local movie theater or Target?

America, look at the birthday card my kids gave me, with very
personal emotions expressed on it!" Not a thought to how that
violation of their privacy, of that tender, intimate, parent/child
relationship, might somehow hurt them. She had a need for
an ego boost, and chose the most efficient way to receive it.
Their needs will never, ever come first.

When is a Public Life “Over?”
Too many responders of our public posts tell us to “get over it.” The Duggars, they tell us, are done and gone. The sun has set on our time in the sun. Time to move on.
Oh really? Memory is one thing, the Internet is another. Nothing is “gone.”
Images, posts, impressions and press coverage no longer “go away.” Wrap your mind around “forever.”
That’s what we live with.
I used to look forward to the Encyclopedia Britannica’s yearbook. We were “lifetime members.” The print version, a leather-bound yearbook, is a thing of the past. The Britannica is now on-line…all of it. Your hand-held Smart Phone can access all of it.
Fame in this day and age does not “go away.” In words and images, it is always there on the Internet. Too many people don’t yet understand what it’s like to deal with “forever.”
The members of A Minor Consideration are here to teach you about the life-time consequences of notoriety, good or bad. Pay attention. We live with it every day while you remain safe in your anonymity.
Former kid stars are the canary in the coal mine. Wake up to reality. You are not exempt from the new reality. You are being tracked, catalogued, captured without your consent, and catalogued…accessible with just a couple of clicks.
A German woman, 65 years-old, already the mother to ten children ages Ten to Forty-Four, gave birth to quadruplets just three months ago. The preemies are leaving the hospital today. Fifty years from now you can find out all about them with a couple of clicks, and the children did not provide Informed Consent. All fourteen children will be affected, forever. Did they know the consequences when they were born?
How could they? They were children.

Catching up on a couple of days worth of posts here. It's been so cool and peaceful under the veranda that I haven't wanted to bother with TFMJG.

There's nothing to indicate that Jon was working over the weekend. His business web page doesn't indicate a booking. There's also nothing to suggest that this trip to the beach involved a hotel stay. It's an easy drive from their home. Maybe it was a day trip. And maybe, just maybe, Jon took the kids to the beach so they could enjoy being at the beach. They didn't have to worry about filming schedules, following directors' orders (or their mother's, for that matter), showing something they didn't want shown, or any of the other hassles involved in filming an (un)reality TV show. They could just relax, be just a group of kids at the beach, and do as they please.

I don't agree with that tweeter who said the whole class would be bombarded with paps if the G kids went on class trips. But, if she (he?) just graduated from 8th grade, she expresses herself better than 99.99% of the rest of the Sheeple. Or TFMJG, for that matter.

This sums it up perfectly for me. These reality tv kids are more notorious than famous and certainly are not celebrities with any talent. They have zero ability to fathom what their infamous parents have gotten them into and have been indentured servants in this game of "lets make tv so my parents and TLC can become rich and famous".

The G kids will never have anonymity and privacy.

I don't think any kid needs to be exposed to that kind of behavior. There's plenty of time for them to learn about people like that when they're older and better prepared to deal with it.

The unfortunate thing is that the sheeple bait the haters when things get mundane on Kate's twitter, trying to get a rise out of them, and the non-fans take the bait. That's when it becomes a middle-school mentality and just plain ridiculous on both sides. I noticed that fan posted the same thing once before with the same graphic, and I guess it didn't get the attention for which she was hoping, so she tried it again. Kind of Milo-esque. I, too, find it sad that these are parents and grandparents who have nothing more to do than go tit-for-tat with the opposition, resorting to such immaturity.

Ingrid, thanks for posting Paul's comments. He knows what it's about. He's lived it. Interesting. I've felt that way for years but didn't want to open my mouth and be called "negative". The salaries of the people that run some of the huge charities are astronomical.

I feel the same way about the climate change arguments. As long as governments have an excuse to tack on another tax or some rich SOB like Al Gore continue to line their pockets, count me out. That doesn't mean I throw garbage out the window of my car or think pollution of our planet isn't a problem. Remember when coke came in glass bottles and you returned them and got your money back? I digress.

I remember the year that all the "celebrities" showed up to the Oscars in the "smart" cars. Did no one stop to think that most of them got to L.A. in their private jets? That they all have multiple huge homes with the A/C cranked up?

My former boss and his wife made a big show of washing out tin cans (wasting water, IMO) and recycling every scrap of paper (more heavy trucks on the road, IMO). Yet they had a cottage that is 2 1/2 hours drive and they took both cars and drove back and forth several times a week. Of course, the electric was running in both properties, whether they were there or not, not to mention the fuel and the resulting pollution from their cars.

We used to have one truck pick up garbage once a week. Now we have the garbage truck, the recycling truck, the yard waste truck and the large item truck. Where does it end?

I sometimes feel that people don't see the forest for the trees.

I read this a while ago and it made me smile.

We didn't recycle in the good old days because we didn't have the green thing

In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized to him and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back in my day." The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. The former generation did not care enough to save our environment."

He was right, that generation didn't have the green thing in its day. Back then, they returned their milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over.

So they really were recycled. But they didn't have the green thing back in that customer's day.

In her day, they walked upstairs, because they didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks.

But she was right. They didn't have the green thing in her day.

Back then, they washed the baby's diapers because they didn't have the throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts - wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.

But that old lady is right, they didn't have the green thing back in her day.

Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house - not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because they didn't have electric machines to do everything for you. When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, they used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.

Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised by working so they didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.

But she's right, they didn't have the green thing back then.

They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water. They refilled their writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and they replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.

But they didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And they didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful the old folks
were just because they didn't have the green thing back then?

We used to have one truck pick up garbage once a week. Now we have the garbage truck, the recycling truck, the yard waste truck and the large item truck. Where does it end?

We have all of them, too! Can't keep track what day is what!

An idea: I need advice on healthy snacks, not much salt, no raisins (eww), but not boring like plain popcorn. Go.

Have you bought Kate's cookbook, or asked her? lol!

I carry around Nature Valley bars and water with me at all times when I'm out and about.

Jeanne, more snack ideas. There's always the old standby of peanut butter crackers, or cheese and crackers. Sliced strawberries and bananas drizzled with a little bit of honey. Apple slices. Combine those apple slices with some peanut butter for dipping, or a couple of pieces of cheese and you have good fats/good carbs/protein together. Google some diabetic sites for snack suggestions. They are all healthy, low calorie, easy to assemble snacks and you don't have to be diabetic to enjoy them.

Veggies and dip are always a good snack. A bag of baby carrots, some cucumber slices, grape tomatoes and whatever other raw veg you like. Half a mini bagel spread with cream cheese and add a cucumber slice, a tomato slice and some onion.

You're making me hungry. When it's this hot outside, I don't feel like cooking or having a big meal. What you posted just may be my supper! I think I just may "pick around" tonight! Thanks!

Lemon tree, very pretty, and the lemon flower is sweet,
But the fruit of the lemon is impossible to eat.

Little baby cucumbers and zucchini. Great for dipping into your home-made garlic hummus. And little multi colored peppers, sliced thinly.

Yogurt with granola on top.

I tried to make cucumber water. I don't like it. I'm going to try strawberry water next.

Tucker's Mom (#169), I don't know what the heck Black Cherry
Wisniak soda is, but could you please pass me a frosty bottle
under the veranda? Er, um, just so I know how it tastes, in
case anyone asks me! If they don't make it anymore, I'll wait
until you find some on ebay -- although it might be fermented
by now (in which case I'll share my bottle with the gang!).

''I'm a little unnerved by all the political talk here. I have very strong feelings about the current state of our society. I'm not going to say which direction. I am trying very hard, on FB and on here, to scroll on past and not let it upset me. I worry that we have gotten to a point as a society that no matter what the arguments no minds will change. Attacks are very vicious.

I'm not totally sure what point I'm making. Partly venting. Could we maybe skip some of the politics and climate change and do something lighthearted?''

Me too Jeanne, me too! The lyrics to FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH keep going through my mind.
''There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear''
and later on in the song
''What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side''

Maybe it's time for a food/snack topic?

DH and I love an entree salad with canned tuna. I put a whole bunch of fun stuff in, like olives, feta, peppadews, artichoke hearts. We split a can of albacore tuna and top with our choice of dressing.
It's very filling but not heavy.

Tonight is bean and cheese quesadillas with creamy tomato basil soup.

I still have a couple of those milk bottles in my 'old stuff' kitchen cabinet.
Mom used to wash and rinse them out, put the money (yep, loose change) for the milk inside the bottle and set it on the doorstep the night before. If she wanted butter or cream she'd write a note to the milkman, roll it up and put it in the neck of the bottle.

I am thrilled and delighted when I see some of those milktrucks back around town with renewed life as food/snack trucks.

Oh and we'd line the kitchen garbage can with yesterday's newspaper if we ran out of brown paper grocery bags. Every home had a burning barrel outside the back fence, but you couldn't burn on Monday because it was washday and people hung their clothes on the line to dry.

We're not allowed to burn fallen leaves anymore, either. I used to love that delicious odor.

Oh dear. I'm waxing nostalgic now.

Exactly. What a doofus. Building a pool is economical because you don't have to pay for swim passes. SMH BTW, I wonder how much of her basement/freezer hoard gets outdated before she uses it? Oh, wait, doesn't matter if it's spoiled. The kids get it in their lunch anyway.

Milk bottles and waxing nostalgic...

I still have my grandmother's old metal "Cream Top Dairy" milk box with a few bottles inside. It's setting near the fireplace hearth. Our decor is very eclectic! I was going to do a dried flower arrangement with sunflowers inside of it, but still haven't gotten around to it.
