'Dance Moms' dancer sues Abby Lee Miller

One of the younger dancers on Lifetime's popular reality show, Paige, is suing her teacher. The suit claims Abby pinched the dancers until they bled, made them cry and called them names. It also says Abby ramped up the drama for television.

In the past, other cast members have accused the show of making the children work long hours. Abby herself has admitted some things are fake, including the "pyramid" ranking the dancers, but says she likes the perks of being a star.

The filing can be read in full here.

It's okay to not like kids. Just don't have them then.

Then there is the group who does like kids. I believe Kate thinks she is in this group and DOES like kids, but I don't think Kate likes kids in the way most people in this group like kids.

I think Kate likes these kids because of what they do FOR her. Because having babies was fun for her because of the attention and the cuteness. Because now, the bring her a lifestyle and attention beyond most people's wildest dreams. They have done wonderful things to make her life interesting and VIP.

Whereas I think most people like kids because they are so fun to watch and be with, interesting, enthusiastic. They like watching them experience the world, they like the perspective a child brings. They like watching a little person grow and change because it's rewarding. They don't think what can this child do for me. They think what can I do for this child.

I never got the sense from her tweets she enjoyed children in that way. She likes them because she can show them off, because they are little extensions of her. That's really not the same thing at all as liking and appreciating a kid for what kids truly are. The parent who enjoys a little field trip and participates and is engaged likes kids for what kids truly are. A parent who is bored by such things doesn't REALLY like kids in that way.

Also based on her blog posts and the show I think she feels the same about pets and friends. She is clearly all about herself.

I fell behind in reading, and missed some of the replies to my comments on the last thread about my divorce. My heart goes out to anyone who has lost a partner, whether through death or divorce. While the circumstances may be different, much of the experience is similar in that there is grieving and a difficult transition.

In my particular circumstance, it is very difficult to reconcile the person who raised a family with me, built a business and was a great father with the disconnected and pretty crazy person he is today. It is like the old sci-fi movie about the pod people, in which aliens took over the people in the town. It looks like him, it sounds like him....but it is definitely not him.

I am doing OK most of the time. I am able to stay in my home and community that I love, and, for the first time in a very long time, I have some peace. The constant chaos of living with an alcoholic narcissist is fading, except when it emerges as we move toward settlement. Having adult children is very different than having minor children, in that they have a choice about how much contact they have with him. I received an upsetting email from him when my daughter was visiting last weekend, and she said, " None of us have much of a relationship with him", as if that would make me feel better. It made me sadder because he really was a very involved and loving father, and I want my kids to have relationships with both of their parents. But, that is really up to him now--I have to let go that I get to have any influence or say in the matter. And, really, that is such a relief!

But you're not going to cuddle up with the money in bed and read it a story, or watch the money play in the yard with pride and joy, or delight in the money experiencing the world. You love it and are happy around it because that wad of cash can do good things for you. You don't love it on a deep emotional level that is supposed to be what's part of being alive.

Admin (#15), I so agree with your summation of why TFW doesn't
seem like a "kid person." Not just from her tweets, but from hundreds
of hours of footage. She had those 6 toddlers shunted away in the
basement to play while she got things done (or didn't) around the
house. What a glorious age that is -- seeing their take on the world,
watching them interact, hearing their cute little malaprops (*waves
to Mrs. Malaprop*), as they waddle around in all their pudgy glory.
The way she seemed almost gleeful to punish the kids who'd
"escaped" nap time by making them stay away from her a little
longer. I never, ever got the feeling she was "smitten" with them
the way some parents are. And, no, I don't think that makes her
a horrible, miserable person. It's just the phoniness that gets
to me -- how the way she describes her relationship with her
children absolutely does not scan with what we've seen, heard,
and read.

I agree. I can't do anything about it if Kate feels like spending time with her children and their classmates learning and doing something they enjoy is "dull." I'm sorry about that. However, she need not say so out loud.

What I have an issue with is saying so out loud, and in a very public manner. Anybody could have seen that public tweet, including the organizers, teachers, parents, and the children themselves. It was extremely rude and mean.

I suppose there are a lot of things about raising children that are "dull" on its face. But the point is you are spending time with your children, precious time before they grow up in the blink of an eye, and that aspect should never be dull. Sort of like how sitting by the lake may be dull to a lot of people, but if you're sitting by the lake with someone you are in love with, holding their hand, and they whisper in your ear how much they love you too, it's not dull anymore. It wasn't about the field trip itself. It was about the time with her kids.

If she doesn't like their field trip ideas, she is welcome to suggest alternatives and organize it. See then how hard it is.

I thoroughly agree. Kate's tweet about the field trip was in response to this tweet from Milo:

Fired Up 4 Kate ‏@MiloandJack · 26 May 2011

Kate could've just stated that it was a nature walk. She didn't have to elaborate that it was a dull walk through poison ivy fields.

That IS being rude, especially to the organizers.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I don't see why it makes a difference whether she said the trip was dull directly to the people there or later on twitter. They could still see what she said as easily as turning on their phone or computer. This was not a private phone call or text to a friend, which in my opinion would be much more acceptable to do because it's unlikely anyone whose feelings could be hurt would ever hear about that conversation. Instead, she put it out there on a public forum for anyone to see.

If anything, it's worse to say so "behind their backs" on Twitter. If you have a problem with the field trip I'm sure many people worked very hard to organize, at least have the courtesy to say so to their faces. I just can't imagine how a comment like that would make me feel if I organized that trip.

And how about all the parents who work and can never go on field trips? Show some appreciation that you have the flexibility to go on field trips whenever you like because you live off the money your kids made and don't have to work.

Great find Kate is a Twit. In fact nobody asked how the field trip was. They asked what it was ABOUT. Kate chose to offer her two cents on how the field trip was (dull) when nobody ever even asked for her opinion on that. That tells me it was on her mind how much she hated being dragged along on something most normal parents would enjoy, because they are with their kids.

What's dull to some may be fun for others. I've been there and I think that it's anything but dull. The kids absolutely love it, and because they do, I enjoy being with them, trying to see things through their eyes. It's one of those trips to which everyone looks forward mostly because you spend time with them, and also get to know their peers and other parents.

Kate had every opportunity before the trip to find out where they were going, the terrain, how much walking was involved, etc. If she thought it was something she didn't like, she could have asked the nannies to go in her place. She didn't. It seemed like she just wanted to show that she was involved in the kids' school events, and then she whined about it when she realized it was something that she found dull. I do remember some saying that if she didn't like it then she could organize the next event all by herself...or just stay home.
Another gorgeous fall day here in the Amish country. Admin, where are you?

Nurse said...
"if some of the locals have never had the experience of public schools, then their perspective would probably be different than that of someone who has had kids in both."

I've had kids in both, and the public school experience was not a positive one. I do think, though, that so much of it depends on the child. For example, if he or she had started at a private school, transferred to a public school, adapting may be very difficult, especially if that public school was a very large one and the child was accustomed to small classes. I believe that if the child's early years were spent in a public school and transferred mid way to a private school, it perhaps wouldn't be quite as challenging. I really don't know...just my perspective on it. I'd have to think about it further!

I think that the locals won't reveal details because they're guarding the kids privacy, as does the school. If Kate won't do it, somebody has to!

But I do agree with you that she doesn't always put on a happy face for the camera. You got me there.

Maybe it WAS Dull (#32), you certainly are entitled to have a
different opinion about this. And I don't think for a second anyone
here thinks every single school event is a funfest. But the way
TFW described it was "dull" - a word with a thoroughly negative
connotation. And it was an activity centered around being with
her children. She wasn't talking about a visit to a widget factory,
or hearing a lecture by someone who was droning on and on.
She was with her kids - walking out in nature, and having a picnic.
So to choose the word "dull" as an adjective seems quite unkind.
And to then throw in "poison ivy" was just a passive-aggressive
complaint -- another opportunity for her to play victim.

So much information in that tweet, wasn't there? And as others
have said, Twitter is a public forum. TFW wasn't complaining to
a bunch of girlfriends over a glass of Zinfandel. Her words are
out there. Forever.

Excellent point, Admin. I was flexible in my work too( but not rich and unemployed!) and was able to go on many field trips and volunteer at my kids' school. I wouldn't trade those times for anything. I also got to know the classmates, teachers and what and how my children were learning. Who cares if it's 'boring?' Some mother. She is also insulting her kids- it's their special time ,not hers.My kids were happy and proud I went along and today say they appreciate my investment in their lives - I was thrilled I was able to do these things..So many parents cannot due to work, feeding, clothing and sheltering their kids. I wonder if the G kids were happy or embarrassed TFW went along, maybe complaining, if she wore hooker heels on the nature walk. Those kids have picked up on TFW's complaints- mimicked her in their recent couch interviews.

OT...Pennywise. Ugh. I went shopping today for baby sneakers and found a really cute pair at a great price. Only problem was that there was a clown on each side of them. I knew I couldn't look at those things every day without thinking about Pennywise, and I didn't purchase them.

Exactly! It's watching the kids have fun that is fun!

&&&

Exactly. I think most parents are happy to watch their children watching paint dry. Because it's their children. The point is it's your kids and that alone brings you joy.

In fact that's why we always say the sheeple's fascination with the children is odd. It's not your kids. But when it's your own or children you are otherwise invested in like a niece or nephew, it's different. This is why when parents will say on FB look what Johnny did he ate three peas today, they end up on STFU parents. It's the most wonderful amazing thing to them, but not to anyone else.

Kate never really seemed to quite get this.

NJGal51 said...

OK, I just finished watching IT and I've got to say that Twisty the Clown (AHS Freak Show) wins the creep factor over Pennywise. Maybe it's because I see Tim Curry (Pennywise) more as Dale the Whale although when he was on Criminal Minds he was super creepy!

But are they naked ax-murderers? We had a place at the beach where the homes were very close to one another. I wasn't used to that. The neighbor man, older gentleman, walked around in his tight wife-beater undershirt and purple thong. On Saturdays, he'd change to his black and white thong. I guess he thought it was formal night. You couldn't help but see it. My kitchen window looked directly into his living room. He wore a red, white and blue striped Speedo to the beach. Very patriotic. He had a Phil Spector thing going on with his hair. Talk about the things of which nightmares are made! We had glass sliders out to the deck from each of the bedrooms. I had a guy come and install locks on all of them.

Dale didn't have an off-the-chart creep factor, though. He was just gross. I see TIm as Rog, Roger, Rogee (as Dan said) in Roseanne. He was funny on there.

Over In TFW's County said...

It was not boring if you put your mind on their level and looked at the awe on their faces seeing something new or learning about something they have always seen.

+++++++++

I think with most parents, this is a natural instinct. We can see things through their eyes because we've been with our children from babyhood through their younger formative years. With Kate, it doesn't come naturally to her because she thinks only about herself, her comfort, and what SHE can get out of a situation. That's really rather sad when you think about it, but I wonder if she can help it. If that nurturing instinct is missing, can it ever be learned? I don't think so. but I don't really know.

Call Me Crazy said...

...In light of the fact that she is a public figure, perhaps she should have been more diplomatic, but I think this is much ado about nothing.
___________________________________

For me, this "much ado" cuts to the very heart of the matter. In addition to proving that she is insensitive and rude, Kate's very public negative response to her children's field trip is just another symptom of her inability to see the world through anyone's eyes but her own, including and especially her very own children.

Many parents who have multiple children in one school end up having to relive the exact same field trips with each of their children. But even though the destination may be the same, the experience is very different for each child. Parents who value their children as separate individuals, and not as extensions of themselves, will enjoy seeing how their child reacts to a particular place or engages in a new activity. They do not imprint their feelings onto their child.

It is hard for me to reconcile how any parent who claims to put their children above all else (as Kate constantly claims), could possibly neglect their emotional needs so totally. By describing the field trip as "dull," she completely disregards her children's joy and wonder and excitement at experiencing something new or different.

Kate has shown again and again that she is incapable of empathy. She is nothing more than an empty vessel, able to be filled only with things she enjoys, and experiences that benefit her personally or make her feel/look good.

It is terribly sad that her children's life experiences appear to mean nothing to her unless they are being captured on film. She is a sad, sorry little woman.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I agree.

To me, that one tweet was representative of almost every complaint I've ever had about Kate. She rude and mean, unappreciative of her children, her situation, and others, selfish and has no self awareness, doesn't REALLY enjoy being with her children and is only interested if she is getting paid and cameras are rolling and exploitation is happening.

It's not much ado at all really. It's who Kate is at her core.

Honestly, what exactly is a nurse supposed to do in this situation but make sure an adult gets the kid to a hospital? There's not much you can do that anyone else wouldn't know, like keep it stable obviously. I would be shocked beyond comprehension if the employees of Skyzone are not trained in basic first aid and didn't tend to him. I'd be shocked if they would be allowed to be insured without knowing basic first aid. It's a gym for heaven sake. It doesn't matter to me whether she wants to offer to help or not, though I still maintain there's really not much you can do for a broken bone but keep the child comfortable and get them to the hospital. The issue was that according to the players involved, she dragged her film crew along in the process of offering help and filmed it all. It's wildly inappropriate at best and obviously upset the family so much they felt compelled to take it to the masses.

I was questioning Kate's justification of why she had to go over there in the first place (and drag her film crew over, upsetting the players involved.) But she too seems to be missing the point. The point is not whether she had to go over there or not. The point is she brought her entourage with her. I think she really doesn't fully appreciate that lots of people really want nothing to do with a camera crew, especially when there is a crisis going on. It is irrelevant whether the footage would be edited out later. That's not the point either.

I'm glad this young lady stood her ground and didn't let Kate run roughshod over her.
Many kids (and adults) would be afraid to speak the truth, and would have let Kate get away with her usual bs.
The situation did not call for a nurse, unless she was certified in trauma, there's nothing she should be doing but keeping the hell away and letting the SkyZone people and paramedics do their thing.
Anyone else is only hindering efforts to get the patient to the hospital.

It's hysterical how Kate trots out that she's a nurse whenever it suits her, but she doesn't want to ever, ever, ever have to practice again, not unless her life depends on it.
Kate has emphatically stated that she can't go back to nursing, but wants to put on her "Nurse Kate" cape, swoop in, and save the day.

This, from the woman who let her daughter suffer with stomach pain for over a month before taking her to the E.R.
Who let a gash on her daughter's head go unsutured because she didn't want to go to the trouble of taking her to the E.R., when the wound could have been stitched up.
Kate got another nurse to tell her that she waited too long.

Daughter hurts arm and Kate's too busy FILMING at home to bother to take her to the E.R.. She had to get someone else and told daughter they "don't have time" for a fractured arm.

Again, so glad this young lady is calling Kate out about her bs. Kate didn't forget for a second that cameras were following her.

It's bad enough that this boy has a severe ankle fracture and needed surgery, and is facing months of recovery. Now, he and the people with him have to face this being caught on camera and aired to the world.

I truly think SkyZone needs to rethink offering to have Kate film there.
I think SZ is at risk of garnering more bad will from the public in general, and locals in particular, and now, perhaps some sort of legal kerfuffle by having a minor's really, really serious injury being filmed by a crew that descended down upon him.

So was this guy C and M's friend? Doesn't C have a guy friend that she has been friends with forever?

If "nurse" (who hasn't worked in a decade) TFW ran to help him, privacy should have been right up there with her concerns. That is drilled into nurses...SHE should have told the crew to hold back.

Also Gladys tweeting that with 8!!! kids, TFW could have understandable disregarded the situation since she had enough to deal with tells me a lot about Gladys. That's AWFUL. And it goes to show that she thinks 8 kids gives TFW a free pass to EVERYTHING

I couldn't find anything on the local SkyZone website so I googled Skyzone First Aid:

Radca said Sky Zone strictly enforces rules for the purpose of safety. They include making sure adults and children are not jumping in the same vicinity, and assuring all jumpers are separated by a certain distance. Court monitors must know first aid and CPR.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

This is one of the times when TFW's past behavior makes
believing her more difficult. Let's say she was really, truly,
sincerely concerned about the welfare of this kid yesterday,
and honestly only wanted to help. But at this point, her past
behavior has been so abysmal that I have every reason to
doubt her. We've seen her treat her husband, in his own words,
"like a frickin' dog." We've seen her shout at her kids about the smallest misstep. We've seen her act snobby with strangers.
Even the ones who give her freebies can only elicit a lukewarm response (remember the free theater tickets and stuffies?). We've
heard comments from locals about her diva attitude around town.
And, regarding the specific topic of needing medical attention,
we've seen TFW's lack of interest in her own children's physical
troubles -- the ones Gladys so helpfully just reminded us were
born prematurely. Remember when poor little A's feet hurt him
while he was walking in new cowboy boots, and his nurse mother's
loving advice was to "man up?"

But now we're supposed to believe in the middle of a stressful,
busy, crowded, noisy, on-the-clock filming situation, TFW saw
someone suffering, and leapt into action like Florence Nightingale
with extensions?

Just catching up, reading from the bottom

Does anyone think tfw would have 'done what any other nurse/ mom' would have done had her camera entourage not been there???? She's an opportunist and she saw an opportunity. The "storyline" wheels in her head (that haven't stopped turning at all since her show was cancelled) were in fast mode. When you can't even tear yourself away from picking out beds, or when you place your very sick child on a cold linoleum floor in the dark by themselves...oh I forgot, it's only HER children she doesn't nurse. She knows how reality tv works, she jumped at an opportunity to "make some good tv". Fortunately, many people have her number, as the tweets show.

"Like all moms" here we go again.

Actually, I think a good many moms would have tried to stay out of the way and allowed the highly trained staff to handle the situation. Sometimes the best thing you can do in an emergency is stay out of the way and make sure others stay out of the way too, including all the lookie loos.

I have no problem letting someone know you have medical training but unless they invite you to help, you have no business butting in and especially not with a camera crew by your side. In fact I'm CPR certified and the first thing they teach you to do is ask if the victim, if they are responsive, would like you to help. I have no idea what she was thinking.

There really isn't anything anyone could do and as OP said I wouldn't want to mess around with a broken bone and make it worse. Lay him down, keep him comfortable, clear the area of lookie loos and wait for the paramedics. Nothing the facility couldn't do. What did she do, go out and find two sticks and some rawhide for a splint? Okay Doc Baker.

It's different if this were some kind of wound with bleeding, or cardiac arrest, or kid pinned under equipment or something. Then by all means, step in if you have first aid training, in the unlikely event the facility is not able to handle it (but without the cameras).

this circus was probably the last thing you needed.

What I DO know is that unless the situation is dire (loss of blood supply secondary to dislocation, for eg.), you really shouldn't touch something like this.
This boy needed Kate NOT to touch him, and if she's so damn knowledgable, she'd know this.
This fracture was an obvious emergency, especially with the dislocation.
You let the employees do their job and get the heck out of the way, and allow as much room as possible for emergency personnel.

You don't insert yourself and get in the way.

I have to say, so many people LOVE garage sales, and it makes them so happy to buy stuff for really cheap.
We and a couple neighbors held a successful multi-house garage sale last Sat. and my neighbor sold a garage full of "stuff".
What was left fit into 3 boxes!

She did a great job of knowing what to sell and how to price it.

We sold much less, but did manage to give someone a great deal on our Crate + Barrel dining set.
They were thrilled (as were we to move it!).

But, and it's a big but, nothing that we sold was donated, or product placement, or from a spokesperson deal.
Kate's selling stuff she got for free is what rankles me.

I hope 100% goes to charity.
She's getting paid HUGE bucks to film it, to begin with.

I further grant SZRC, the right to photograph, videotape, and/or record me and/or my child/ward and to use my or my child’s/wards’ name, face, likeness, voice and appearance in connection with exhibitions, publicity, advertising and promotional materials without reservation or limitation.

"For those w/reading problems" - hey, Gladys, where's the positivity?
I no longer feel sorry for this tool - she gives as good as she gets.

A PORTION of the proceeds will go to charity? Oh brother. Kim Kardashian also donates 'a portion' of her eBay sales to charity. How about ALL the proceeds go to charity? Good grief.

Now, I'm kind of hoping they DO show the footage (while maintaining the kid's privacy of course) just to see how TFW reacted and how she got told to stay away. Of course, she'll sit for the couch confessional and play the victim but it would be nice to see in its unedited glory...

A portion of the proceeds are going are going to Animal Rescue. Want to guess the rest of the proceeds are going? Kate's bank account?

I bet it's killing Kate that she can't crow on and on about how she saved a boy with an ankle fracture!

Maybe she can visit him in the hospital and give him a copy of her cookbook or a "KatePlus8 Special" dvd.
*******
Kate can regale him with stories of her bed rest, you know, out-owie the kid.

You know, it occurs to me that this "yard sale" is quite ironic.
Kate's trash was taken for free, then she sued the guy who took it.
Now, she's selling it for money.

She's going to get her pound of flesh, come hell or high water!

PJ's Momma -- I thought the same thing. (And, stated it elsewhere.)

A portion -- she could dole out $20.00 in dimes and nickels and say she did her charitable share.

I hope some local goes to this garage sale and reports back in the crews, cameras and confidentiality agreements.

How exceedingly generous of her. If that "portion" is anything like the "portion" her kids got for getting the crap filmed out of them, then the ARL will be lucky to get enough to buy a box of Milkbones.

All her mad love and over-the-top gushing about Shoka makes perfect sense now. Excuse me while I puke.

A "portion". That's rich. They really just set themselves up.

FlimsyFlamsy said...

Don't they mean a percentage of the "prodceeds?"

If you're getting paid to film an episode, it's positively obscene
to not give 100% of the proceeds to the charity. And I don't
want to hear any jibber-jabber about expenses, because if it's
being filmed, then TLC will be covering every red cent.

Oooh, I've got a bee in my bonnet this morning!

What is the Local Animal Rescue League?
Any locals know?

How much stuff do you have when it "clogs up" a mansion with out buildings?
So tone deaf...

So if the kids were with TFW last week and will be at the garage sale this weekend, when do they get to see their father?

Get pics or video!! Remember without it, it didn't happen. Don't let anyone take your camera to delete.
