I finally watched part 2 this afternoon and I noticed a few things I haven't seen mentioned in the comments here.
IIRC a few months ago there was a discussion about whether they still had the solar panels - they do. I saw them on the garage.
TFW's cake was a flop even before the bird 'accident'. It never rose - the layers were very thin. I noticed that and I'm definitely not a baker.
I noticed a dirty/worn dog cushion propped against the house during a shot of the front porch. Shoka's daytime rest area spot? grrrrr
TFW freaked out about the dangerous the hail storm when she was trying to get the kids to "hurrrrry, hurrrry, the 'freaky' storm is coming again." good grief - get a grip!
The boys walked one at a time up to the counter to get a piece of cake - of course served on paper. Like little soldiers. Only after one had their piece and had turned to leave, did the next one approach. Cake being served at my house was a time for all my kids to gather at the counter until they got a piece (or I sliced/served it at the table), but not at TFW's.
TFW had to dictate exactly how and when they were to sing happy BD to the kids. Apparently they had to repeat it many times because she couldn't keep all the candles lit. Gawd- just let them sing the song and have their cake!!
TLC displayed this tweet: "Love how you made them wear helmets on the John Deere cart. Safety always." While showing two 10 yr old boys driving the Gator w/one in the back. SMH
One of the screen captions by TLC said at least 50 people attended the party. If they counted the itzaparty employees plus helper friends of the twins there might have been 50, but I sure didn't see anywhere close to that many guests.
Kate is a twit (21) I saw that, too. No K+8 in the top 100. And some of the shows that did make the top 100 got very low numbers--one of them only had 601,000 viewers. So the specials had less than that. Fact is, people can only take so much of Kate--and then they tune out. Even Kate's manic #Joinus tweeting and TLC airing viewers' tweets didn't help.
Joy in Virginia (18), We were supposed to go to Cape Hatteras for the Fourth of July. We got a call several days ago telling us not to come down there. We're a little bummed about missing our vacation, but praying for the safety of everyone in the path of the hurricane.
Karen, welcome! I am so sorry for your loss. We have a great, supportive bunch here. I hope you decide to stick around.

It wasn't just poor ratings. NONE of the episodes that aired in the "marathon" (9 hours of Gosselin) on TLC yesterday made it into the "top 100 for the day in the age 18-49" category. In other words, show's OVER.
The only TLC program to make it onto that list ("Seven Little Johnstons"--?) aired directly AFTER the 2nd episode of the update special at 10 pm EDT. And TLC has NO Gosselin stuff scheduled at all through the end of this month.
We might finally be seeing the end. I think TLC is her only TV play at this point, and I doubt they're going to put any more money into this cadaver. Granted, she's still got CA in the can, but no date has yet been announced for that--it may never air. And she's already been paid for that, I'm sure.
She's probably still flogging that dating show to anyone who will listen, but the fact is, with all the speculation about (and public displays with) her "bodyguard," I don't think that's going anywhere. She blew that concept all by herself.

What really struck me watching part two was the fact that she really (REALLY) believes that she is special. So many times she complimented herself & congratulated herself.
Karen, so sad for you and your girls. Stick with the folks that can give you good advice and good care. You will come through the fire. Low vibration things like Kate Gosselin will not mean a thing to you in the future. She has no soul. This will not be easy, but, you will get through this.
