Somebody mentioned the kids giving Kate a massage on the show. Weren't they rolling cars on her? I only watched Jon and Kate, not Kate's show.

Alberta Girl said...

I don't get VH1, so will have to wait for recaps to discuss.

Boys - I have 2 who are 7.5 and 9. I find at this age, they have spurts of interests that may last for a day, a week, or longer. I have a hard time believing that all her boys like are Lego. Perhaps, that's all she cares to see about her boys.

Most boys (and a lot of girls) are into Minecraft. I am stunned when my boys start discussing this with other kids - it's like they are speaking another language. If they have iPads, they have Minecraft!

And you know what lady? If your boys are really that into Lego, take them to the damn movie! Put a quarter of the effort you put into getting your teenage BFF's concert tix to a boy band they probably won't care about when the time comes to see them.

Realitytvkids.com (Administrator) said...

I wanted to add, that it is a shame that nothing Kate says can be taken just at face value. Like the kids playing w/ dolls or a dog picture, or enjoying a simple night in front of the fireplace. Her motives are always deemed as suspicious, garnering attention for herself, or plotting for a new show because they're lil and cute. News is that they aren't little anymore and being immature for their age is not cute. It's fine if they are immature for their age, but the twitter world doesn't need to know what their development is.

&&&

It is a shame. She did it to herself. She's so transparent and her motives are often so obvious or outed. She didn't just take those twins on the Today show to talk about them, she wanted them to throw their father under the bus. She didn't arrange a cookbook tour to talk about food, she did it to criticize Jon. He's all she talked about. When she does stuff like that all she does is prove Jon's point, as well as our point that everything has a motive for her.

You can't view her behavior with these kids in a vacuum. You can't just say well I know a normal 10 year old who plays with dolls. That may be. We know so much more about these kids, we have context for these kids, where they've been, where they are now, everything she's done to them, their struggles with child development. Something that may be fine for some other kid is apples and oranges for these kids.

It's really the same with the massages. Eh, another kid might love to give a massage or back scratch to mom and mom gives one to them and it's no big deal and something they'll grow out of anyway shortly in a matter of months. But because she has consistently put these kids in a position of constantly stroking her ego, hanging out with her, being preoccupied with her when most kids their age don't give a second thought to their mom or dad, they can barely keep up with friends, school, etc.--we know all the unhealthy things she does and this is just another example. "IT's just a massage" doesn't work in this situation. It's NOT just a massage because you can't look at it in a vacuum like that.

Ah, we all know what one of the things wrong with Kate: she can't let go of the past. Kate will forever think of her tups as 4-5 year olds, cause that was when they were at the height of popularity, and Kate can't get past that. She was having the kids watch old DVD of the show, when the tups were little. Kate, they are almost 10. They are individuals, not a set, a team, 6 pk, but individuals, with different likes, ideas. You can't put them all in the same things. You can't do the all for one and one for all crap. I can see in 6 more years the 6 going separate ways. I hope Jon is letting them do separate things.

Not necessarily. Not if she's trained those kids to fit into a certain mold and have the same likes and dislikes, for the purpose of pleasing HER.

That's what kills me about Mady saying about being filmed "guess what, we're fine." Ok, well it does appear that she and her sister are allowed to pursue outside interests. Their 6 brothers and sisters, not so much. Maybe she wouldn't consider them so annoying if they had something to do. The show ended 2 1/2 years ago. It's shameful that they are not allowed to move on. Not only did they not ask to be born as a 6 pack, they didn't ask to be on tv. Kate seems to think both of those things make it impossible for the tups to do what other almost 10 yr. olds get to do. She is a sorry excuse for a mother.

Exactly. I can tell you right now that inappropriate boundaries with your children is a HALLMARK of abuse, especially sexual abuse. Child abusers do not appreciate and respect children and therefore inappropriate boundaries are very common to see, and very damaging to children. A child whose boundaries are not respected can have all kinds of problems especially with boundaries as adults.

I doubt anything deviant is going on however that is not the point. The point is that a child has a right to having his boundaries respected. The point is also that a child should not bear the heavy burden of being repeatedly charged with making their mother feel good, even if it's just a massage and an evening of entertaining her. That is not their job. They are not emotionally ready to bear such a burden.

Kate has always made the boys feel like they had to 'man up' and take care of Mommy- she even asked them on that dude ranch episode if they would. This back massage is part of it, making Mommy feel good. They are children and should not have this burden. Of course it could be an innocent little gesture but it should be kept private- will she EVER learn, I doubt it.

Kids will do anything to try to "please" a parent. My step mom used to make me rub her feet. (Gross) I hated it. She was lazy. I was like? Kate and Jon's kids will act out, it's just a matter of time. Try to control 8 teenagers!! Yikes! I feel bad. Because some kids might act out in very wrong ways... Anonymous, I know you want to blame US for pointing out inappropriate behavior that Kate does and put it all on us for having sick minds (incidentally, this is the same criticism we got when we warned about people like Bill Blankinship before we ever even knew of him), but a quick browse of the internet shows countless grown adults reflecting back on their childhoods in which they were made to give mom or dad a massage and how damaged they feel now from it. Maybe their testimonials will persuade you that we have a point:

1. "My mom has "chronic pain" and I describe it in that way because it seems to be selective. Nonetheless, when I was younger and lived at home, she used to make me give her massages. It started out as back and shoulder rubs and them moved to full body massages. I hated doing it, but she would give me such a guilt trip and over time she had me believing that her pain was caused by the stress of raising me."

2.
I went to go live with my dad at 7 from my grandparents. he tried to force me to rub his nasty feet. As a 10 year old I actually told him to **** off. I would get grounded for it. He tried to tell me I should try to please him. it was totally wrong and inappropriate

3. If during your childhood you are treated inappropriately as the parent or spouse of your parent/caretaker, then this can have all sorts of adverse effects. You effectively lose your own childhood, which becomes more about other people's issues and unmet needs (which they have not dealt with and are projecting inappropriately onto you), about fulfilling another or others' needs, rather than your own. Some single parents can slip into these roles, i.e. they do not have a partner and make the child into their partner.

Part 2 in next post.

Realitytvkids.com (Administrator) said...

Part 2

4. Many years ago my brother-in-law was angry because "he wasn't getting enough sex" from my sister. His extreme outrage was obvious in their home so that the children (teen boy, preteen girl) knew all about it. After this had been going on for some time, I was visiting and the husband told me that he was feeling better because he and his daughter were giving each other full body massages each night after dinner. I didn't know what to say. Two years later she went into therapy and told her therapist about this. The therapist said the situation needed to be reported to the authorities.

5. I'm simply amazed at how much shit my mom convinced me to do. she'd have me massage her back for anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour and a half....At some point I also had to make dinner, because I had been "extremely lazy". Followed by getting my younger siblings bathed, and put to bed.
Needless to say, this night, I didn't get my homework done. I went to school and explained what happened (I thought every family was how we were.) The teacher called me a liar because "no mother would tell their kids to do their nails rather than do their homework." And when she called my mom to tattle on me, my mom confirmed her speculations that I was a terrible child and was constantly making up lies and being dramatic. I'm still amazed at how ignorant I was/still am and how "normal" I am considering I wasn't allowed to talk to anyone outside of school, and was basically a little all in one housemaid/masseuse/cook/sitter and emotional punching bag for my mom to shit all over.

6. My mom used to make me give her massages and scrape the stains off her teeth. she wanted me to go to school for dental hygiene just so I could take care of her teeth for free. BARF!! She also forced me to bleach her roots but would never dye mine for me ("I'll mess it up and you'll get mad"). Did I mention she went to hair school?

Note that few of these examples actually turned into actual sexual abuse, but the children are all still very damaged from it. If it wasn't so easy to find all these statements from adults who feel so damaged by being made to rub their parents back/feet or massage, you might have a point. Most of them are traumatized by having to step in as a "partner" to the parent and burdened with fulfilling their needs, and not be the child that they were.

Kate's all ways getting back rubs or something from her kids and we know how lazy and selfish she is.

One thing that stood out for me from TFW's twisted fireside tweet was that hashtag "#lovemyboys." As we've said, she's so transparent -- see, your honor, I love my boys! Look at this hashtag! What parent needs to confirm that they love their children?

But beyond that, it spells out the dynamic -- when she's being served, when her boys are jumping through hoops, when they keep their needs and wants to themselves and do what she wants, then, she loves her boys. Remember the special one-on-one days both parents were supposed to have with each child? TFW skipped the boys' days, claiming she didn't want to drive "hither, thither and yon" for them.
Or was that edited in later to make her out to be a villain?

Our concerns for these children are based on facts -- things that
came right out of TFW's mouth, and continue to come out of her french-tipped tweeting fingers.

These sheeple have to be the dumbest group I've ever seen assembled in one place. They just can't think logically. We had a Polar Vortex going on, with 20 inches of snow, sub zero temps, and yes, if that dog was outside, he would have been suffering from extreme cold. However, the past days it has warmed up and there has been considerable melting. Therefore, in 40 and 50 degree temperatures, there would be no icicles on Shoka. That doesn't mean that during the brutal cold and snow storms, if left outside, he wouldn't have been exposed to very cold conditions.

It sounds like an innocent comment, will you take care of your mom?, but to a son that can make them feel very burdened. I think even more than daughters sometimes.

Even an adult son can feel burdened. My friend is almost 30 and his stepfather left his mother over a year ago. She had a boyfriend for a bit but that didn't work out, and she has made a few comments about how she is depressed and lonely and doesn't think she will find someone again. That's all it took for this young man to feel obligated to give up everything on his plate and help her. He gave up his Valentine's Day plans to go be with her and distract her on that day, and he has gone with her on business trips a couple times now, takes her out to dinner or to movie, just so she won't sit around in the hotel room and feel lonely. He had said he wasn't going to go with her this week out of town, and next thing I know he's texting me from the airport saying I couldn't do it she was so pathetic and wanted me to go with her so much. (And the flight was delayed) Sigh. She needs therapy and to tell him this is not necessary and he needs to live his own life and not worry about her, but knowing her she won't.

That's not what was said. What was said was when the family is playing outside Shoka should play outside. What was said was that when the family is inside, especially on bitter cold days and nights, Shoka too should be inside.

The point being Shoka should be with his pack because dogs are wired to be with their pack. If you don't understand such a basic concept of dog psychology please do not get a dog.

Hi All,

Been MIA because we had a death in the immediate family. Hubby's grandmother, 93, recently passed away peacefully in her sleep. Though it is sad, she had very little quality of life at this stage of the game and in a way, it's much more of a relief to everyone that she's no longer in pain.

Anyway, trying to catch up but I've missed quite a lot and am doing a great deal of scrolling.

Since I don't watch and am not really interested in the CT stuff, I will merely comment to the latest bit of Kate cluelessness.

I just find it so hard to believe that Kate could be that oblivious to how tweets like this make her look. How could she not see how self-absorbed and narcissistic she comes across?

Me, me, my, my. Also, it would be more convincing that you loved your boys if you didn't express it only after gushing about what they are doing FOR YOU.

And the creep factor is off the charts. I agree with everyone who said that turning that statement around and having Jon gush about how his 9 year old daughters were rubbing his back would have the sheeple up in arms about inappropriateness.

It is becoming ever clearer that Kate has major boundary issues on top of everything else and that those kids really are merely appendages, tools that she uses to stroke her ego.

Disgusting.

****

Boundary issues are a hallmark of a narcissist. I witnessed that. Walking around in PJ's in front of guests/tree trimmers/construction workers who barely knew them, talking about bodily functions, walking into bedrooms without knocking, talking about adult subjects in front of children, not flushing the toilet so the next person who uses it is greeted with a nasty surprise, sleeping in older children's beds with them on a consistent basis instead of giving them their bed and space and going to your own bed. And what the drive bys don't get is that saying someone has boundaries issues does not in any way mean you are saying someone would MOLEST someone. In fact in most of the stories I read about boundaries issues it NEVER went there and I never got a whiff there was anything sexual WHATSOEVER about any of that, never.

A boundary issue is damaging to a child in its own right, whether or not it turns into sexual abuse, and it often never does. They are not one in the same.

I watched Jon and Liz's portions of CT.
Liz seems introspective and open to fedback, so that's good.
Jon is taking her shit because of 2 things- his penis and the fact that Liz is great to his kids and already has her own, and doesn't want more.
I think Liz knows this and that's how she gets away with treating him like crap. It's abusive. She speaks to Jon with utter disregard for his feelings, and frankly, his dignity, and Jon just takes it because Liz also can be loving and affectionate.
Jon is still acting like a victim of abuse from Kate.
He can say that he doesn't deserve to be treated like that, but he won't back it up with any consequences.

I wanted to add, that it is a shame that nothing Kate says can be taken just at face value. Like the kids playing w/ dolls or a dog picture, or enjoying a simple night in front of the fireplace
******************

Nope, you can't take anything TFW says at face value. Why? Because she always has an ulterior motive. When I saw he tweet about the little girls shrieking with delight about her buying Pampers, I immediately thought--she wants a story written. There are a couple people who have trolled her Twitter, and written stories about her tweets to post on the net. She probably thought, "What a great story! They can write, 'Why is Kate Gosselin buying Pampers?', and everyone will click on it because they'll wonder if maybe I'm expecting again". And her night in front of the fire was supposed to be a story about what a great mom she is, spending special time with her sons. Oddly enough, the people who have written stories from her tweets seem to have disappeared, and those stories didn't get written or posted, or something. Has the media shut her out? Did she really go too far with her manipulation of the twins, and she's now blackballed? We can only hope.

Oh, by the way, I made a cake last night and I let two of my sons lick the beaters. Feel free to write a story about it and post it on the net. Be sure to gush about what a great mom I am! Like no other mom has ever let her kids lick the beaters...

That's right, it's just that these immature behaviors have NEVER been balanced with enriching activities. ZERO photos of any tup on a team, karate, playing an instrument, or doing ANYTHING outside of the compound.
Before the sheep start bleeting about Kate not reveal EVERYTHING they kids do, so that's why we don't see it, I say bullshit.
You know what was really sad about watching CWS? Seeing the 3 girls' bedroom. First of all, it's a glorified closet in a 6500 sq. foot home. WTF?
Worse yet, I saw NOT ONE photo, poster, award or ribbon on the walls or furniture.

It's interesting that people are expressing surprise about Kate having her kids massage her or that everything is always about her. It's nothing new. On one of the old episodes (when they were still in their old house), she was lying on the recliner with a blanket tucked around her. One of the little girls (either Alexis or Leah) came by, and Kate said to her, "Will you rub my feet?" Her child could not have been more than 5 years old at the time, and her mother was asking her to rub her feet? It was totally bizarre and disturbing, but she's a narcissist, so the behavior fits.

Tucker's Mom said...

That's what kills me about Mady saying about being filmed "guess what, we're fine." Ok, well it does appear that she and her sister are allowed to pursue outside interests. Their 6 brothers and sisters, not so much.
******
Kate seemed to give up without even trying. There's just too many of them for her to bond appropriately, spend time with (ps... I think the individual kid's days were just for filming, and were never continued) or encourage interests and development.
Kate even said how far behind the tups were with their motor skills. What? She's a SAHM, so you've got to be kidding me.
Just look at how old the tups were before they got shoes without velcro. "Eh, what's another year", said Kate in the shoe store, wearing CFM sandals, a short skirt and clingy, cut out top with full hair and make up.
Of course, there's time for all that tanning, nail salon and trips to NYC for hair, but teach her kids to tie their shoes? Nah!

Kate is a twit said...

To me, the back rub thing does appear a bit creepy. I have no problem with a 10 yr. old giving an occasional neck or shoulder rub-sometimes my grandson will offer to do that for me when he sees me craning my neck and rubbing it myself..

What I find creepy about Kate's sons doing it(if it is true) is:

Not only one boy is doing it but two of them are, while the other one "entertains her".

If this was supposed to be "quality time" spent with them(as per Milo), why does she have her phone at the ready to take a picture of the boy who is entertaining them? Can't she ever just enjoy her children without having her phone constantly by her side?

The most creepiest thing is that she feels the need to even tweet and brag about it. She seems to have this obsessive need to show that her children do indeed love her. She tweeted this back in 2011, referring to M and C:

Kate Gosselin ‏@Kateplusmy8 · 27 Jul 2011
GN now all! My big girls have offered to massage my back! I'm thrilled! So off to la la land I go... Tweet ya tomorrow!

Kate Gosselin ‏@Kateplusmy8 · 18 Aug 2011
It's massage X by my 10 yr olds!Has bc pm routine&I'm IN!!!
A relaxed me will greet u in am unless these girls tire out b4 I get masage, lol!

Then in 2012:

Kate Gosselin ‏@Kateplusmy8 · 18 Apr 2012
Hey all- its back massage night from Mady and Cara..don't wanna miss that (much needed) offer so I'm outta here...
GN! Play nice! XO 2 all!

I guess M & C decided it was weird to give massages to their mother, and now she's training the younger kids to do it.

Was it his mother who came and picked up TFMJG? The articles I read at the time said "a skater's mother" but I don't recall ever seeing which skater's mother it was who made the drive. The show was either in Connecticut and TFMJG was somewhere in the DC area at the time, or else the show was in the DC area and they needed TFMJG to get there from her home. It was a charity fund raiser for, IIRC the survivors of 9/11 First Responders. At the time, he said TFMJG was very aloof and rude to the skaters and other stars. This is the event where Skeeve barred the ladies' room door and refused to allow a Broadway star to enter -- don't remember her name offhand, but she was in "Hairspray".

http://www.eonline.com/news/171064/kate-gosselin-and-johnny-weir-s-family-ties

This is an excerpt:

"My cousins' house backs up to the house Jon and Kate lived in," Weir, 25, told us at Elton John and David Furnish's AIDS Foundation benefit.

Weir spent his younger years in Quarrysville, a small Pennsylvania town about 50 miles from his family and Gosselin's neighborhood in Wyomissing. "It's a very small and quiet area," the Olympian explained. "Everyone's like, 'What are paparazzi doing in the middle of Amish country?' It was really annoying for everybody."

Although the article mentions Wyomissing, I think he was really referring to the area that Jon and Kate lived in before moving to Wernersville.

I know he won a celebrity cook off on the network, but because of his alleged infidelities and recent rehab (reportedly for sex addition) it takes away from the show. In and of itself, no there's nothing wrong with a child giving a massage in passing, unsolicited. I simply do not believe that to be the case with Kate.
We know the twins were giving her nightly massages at the boys age, and that is wrong.
And come on, 10 year old boys giving their mom a massage is just 'off'.

Millicent said...

I think I'll start referring to TFW as "Kate the Creep." She is so inappropriate in her interactions with her children.

When my sisters and I were young, we liked to do what we called "hair styling" on my mom's hair. She would always let us if we asked. She'd sit on the floor in front of the couch and I would brush her hair into all different styles. Sometimes up in a bun, sometimes braid it, or just brush it in all different directions. She'd sit there with her eyes closed and sort of drift off.

It wasn't until we were older that we realized it was like a little mini scalp massage for her. LOL

The difference was 1. She never requested we do this. It was a game one of us came up with. So sometimes one of us girls would be in the mood to do "hair styles" and our mom would oblige.

2. It was something fun for us. As I said, we were clueless that this was also something that was relaxing for our mom. So we did it for "selfish" rather than "selfless" reasons. We initiated it, and we could stop after 2 minutes or 10, it was up to us. It was never an obligation.

3. My mom did so many things for us kids, every day of our life. Little things that we didn't even notice, like making sure we had the kind of chips we liked in our lunches, or finding our favorite stuffed animal at bedtime. The more I read about how Kate treats her children, the more I feel like I led a charmed childhood. I almost feel guilty!

She must not be buying any followers lately. You would like at least a few people would have signed up in the past 2 weeks because hundreds./thousands signed up just prior to that.

And has ANYONE tweeted to Kate that they received her cookbook because they were a winner in her contest. If she sent out 12 books then you would think a great majority of them would tweet to her that they received her book.

==========================

Remember, when Kate used to write a blog for TLC? I found this old blog she wrote back in 2011, titled "How Legos Brought Peace and Teamwork to My House (For a Little While, At Least)". She writes about how she went out and got Legos for the kids, and how they all played with them while she ran on her tread mill. Then because it was so "exhaustingish" for her, she writes:

"Once I had exhausted my final burst of energy for the day, I laid on the floor and asked for some volunteers to massage my back... Or arms or legs.. Any part of my aching body, please. The littles, in a bedtime avoidance attempt, all willingly agreed. And ahhhh... Their little strong hands covered my entire body with expertise allowing me to relax a bit (in between argument of who took which body part)!"

This was when the tups were 7 years old!! Talk about creepy!!

Seems likes teaching teamwork to her kids includes having them work as a team to make Mommy happy.

http://parentables.howstuffworks.com/family-matters/kate-gosselin-how-im-teaching-teamwork.html

Another article about a Mother's Day post she wrote for CC in 2012, quotes from that CC blog, in which Kate said:

" As for gifts, the children typically make cards with loving messages, and sometimes coupons good for treats like a back massage for stressful days."

http://www.babble.com/celebrity/how-kate-gosselin-will-spend-her-mothers-day/

What kid(at 7 or 10) gives their mother coupons for massages?

Since to Kate everyday is a "stressful" day, it seems like one of the daily chores for the kids is to pamper Mommy--she deserves it!

Besides, shouldn't we listen to an adult "projecting" from their own experiences? If someone is so traumatized by childhood massages they are projecting, that's a red flag something is wrong with it.

The name of the girl that was denied up on stage was Nikki Blonsky. She had ran to the bathroom and came back and TCFW and Steve were there getting ready to go on stage and Nikki came running back to go up to the stage and Steve stopped her and wouldn't let her.

Here is the whole story and with Johnny Weir's account of the TCFW.

http://jezebel.com/why-i-wrote-the-infamously-scathing-obituary-for-my-mot-1526324856

TCFW and Steve rode in a limo with a divider for 5 hours there and 5 hours back. For. A. One. Minute. Speech. And. Introduction.

What would they be doing in the back of the limo for 10 hours? Working on the cookbook? Steve massaging her back? Licking her foot? The possibilities are endless!

I can tell you that everyone finding the "kids massage Kate" posts is disturbing. It is beyond obvious that she asks for massages, all over her body and has for YEARS.
I'm sure that "no" is not an option, unless they want some sort of negative consequence. That, or they do it for favors from Kate.
There's nothing spontaneous about it.

Their little strong hands covered my entire body with expertise allowing me to relax a bit (in between argument of who took which body part)!"

Oh. My. Word! How can anyone read that and not see how creepy it is? She tweeted for a long time that the twins would come to her bed at night and massage her. I suppose if she thought it was wonderful to have two giving her a massage, it is even better to have two ''icky'' boys doing the same while having the third boy ''entertain'' her.

When I think of how awful I thought it was for her to have Jon's eight children do so much house work, it is even worse to see that after they did all her work, they then must massage her ''tired'' and/or ''stressed'' body.

My mind is reeling trying to not think about how horrible their life is when not with Jon.

Sorry, if this is a repeat, but when I posted about who the girl was that was denied to go up on stage, I got the error that the comment box cannot be empty.

The girl was Nikki Blonsky from Hairspray with John Travolta. Steve stopped her from going on stage. Steve also stopped Jill from RHWNJ because Jill had to use the restroom and Steve stopped her from going into the bathroom because TCFW was in the bathroom by herself, but there were other stalls. Jill told Alex that she would ruin her.

Also, TCFW and Steve rode to the Charity Ice Skate event in a limo with divider for 5 hours there and 5 hours back. What on earth would they be doing for 10 total hours?

Working on the original cookbook? Steve massaging her back? Licking her foot? The possibilities are endless.

I guess this explains why Milo thinks Kate is such a great person. By grifting and getting freebies, Kate is actually "honoring" the people who give her contributions.

So I guess for Milo and for Kate, it's always better to receive than give, because you're actually doing those that give a favor.

What a twisted point of view!

I didn't know who he was, until he cheated on his first wife, Mary Jo Eustache, who was actually well known in Canada for her cooking show.

He seems like a douchebag to me, and I think he may have renounced his Canadian citizenship and become American. Canadians don't take too kindly to that - just ask Conrad Black!

Maybe Kate WANTED it to be five hours and stretched it out, but it's under four. My friend's son goes to Western CT State in Danbury and she can make it (on a good day) in about 3 1/2 hours. Of course, she does tend to be a little heavy on the metal.

My mother was stricken with cystitis, where your bladder is so thin when urine gets there, it is extremely painful. Her dr. told her 40 years ago that he had a list of 16 patients that had it as bad as her and he said 1-8 had committed suicide. She would be in so much pain on the couch and sobbing and I would go and get a wet washcloth and roll it up and put it on her forehead. She would rub my hand and tell me she loved me. And I would hug her. She rarely took pain meds. She has and has suffered with this affliction for almost 60 years.

Interesting that Michelle Obama said that her 12 & 15 year olds want NOTHING to do with their parents. Hmmm....

And what's with the excessively flowery prose from TFW anyway? Sounds like a 4th grader trying waaay too hard to call attention to herself.

She probably writes that way because most of it isn't true. As in, yes they massaged her, but only because she ordered it be done upon penalty of severeness.

Mel said...

Asking if a kid will take care of you when you're old is ok when they are older and understand what it means and everybody understands that it's a joke.

Not ok when they're little and rely on you for everything. And certainly not when they've just had their dad yanked away from them. Nothing like terrorizing little kids. But that's what she's good at. Anything to have them be on uncertain ground.

And she was asking in the connotation of the boys taking the place of her partner. No, no, no. Not good.

Ellie said...

In my early teens when I complained about growing pains in my legs, my dad would occasionally come upstairs at bedtime and rub them from the knee down. He would rub hard and quickly to loosen the muscles and then immediately tuck the blankets around them to keep them warm. It would ease the pain enough that I could fall asleep quickly. He would then say goodnight to me, turn out the light and go back downstairs. I could never imagine going into his room and massaging his back until he fell asleep.

Asking pre-pubescent boys for a massage is more than inappropriate. It's not fair to them and could cause a whole lot of confusion on their part.

It is very telling that a little boy would think to change himself lest his mother discovered he had an accident.
Chrissakes, I'm house training my puppy and his accidents get no response from me. I simply clean it up and redouble my efforts to get him outside to go frequently.

Had an exciting night--DIL had very hard labor with Pitocin. Both grandmas were there for labor and delivery. What an unbelievable experience to see this little soul come into the world, and witnessing the moment that our children transitioned into parents.

On an odd note, our grandson was born on my 34th wedding anniversary. My husband (in name only) was there a few hours after the baby was born, and we had a celebratory breakfast together. This baby is a powerful motivator to keep things friendly and co-operative. I don't know how Kate manages to sustain the level of anger required for her daily parental alienation. I don't think the American girl hockey girl players were crying because they were being poor sports. I think they were crying because they had the game in the bag and in three minutes that changed, which makes any sports player feel like a failure, especially since for most of the game Canada couldn't even set up a play and were basically being owned by the U.S. I imagine they were just plain exhausted too. Holding a team with that kind of talent the way they did must have taken every bit of their effort. It was pretty bad up until the past three minutes when Canada finally got it together and the rest was history.

They all played a hard game into even overtime. They are entitled to a few tears without being accused of anything. Now I myself was crying like a real baby because I had a fantastic game spoiled for me. :)

I didn't see them sulking that's all. I've been in the shoes of getting SOO far in a tournament then not quite making it, although on obviously a much smaller level in high school sports. It's crushing for anyone. You're not sulking or being a bad sport, you're just mentally and emotionally exhausted, defeated, and in this case shocked. Throw in all the media and spectators and pressure from your country to win and it's a recipe for a few tears! You're over it in short order. The winners often cry too, it's just an emotion you can't control when all the adrenaline is coursing through you then suddenly is cut off. They don't call it the agony of defeat for nothing.

They all skated out there two minutes later and shook hands. If they were throwing sticks or cursing or refusing to shake hands that's another matter. They were just letting a few tears slip down their cheeks, and not everyone was doing it.

Yeah, Alberta, quite honestly I think too much pressure has been put on the USA women's team to beat the Canadians and have the US be taken seriously in hockey. Canada has won gold in Salt Lake City, Turin, and Vancouver. It's just built and built and built. They were SOO close to finally doing what the U.S. had demanded of them and shut them down and then they let it slip away.

Most of the girls are only 21 or 22. That's too much pressure for such a young woman. They should be left to just play the game and not worry about this bigger idea of "hockey being taken seriously". Hockey is everything in Canada, and due to their weather and rinks everywhere and culture, they get a lot more playing time and support. Hockey is not given the same courtesy here. It is very popular where I am from but almost nonexistent in other parts of the country. Even where I was from, it had very negative connotations. You hear things all the time like, Well little Mike loves hockey but I hope he grows out of it because it's so expensive all this equipment. I'm glad little Suzy is making friends but I hate going to the games because I'm driving all over creation for them and it's so cold! It's very negative.

There is only one girl on the team from a warm state, Arizona. The rest of the team is from Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and New England. When you're only pulling from a few northern cities, of course it will be very difficult to build a team that might upset Canada. I don't know, I actually really felt for the girls and thought they handled it quite well.

I should also add growing up hockey was one of the last sports where there really wasn't a girls team. In fact girls teams in other sports were such a fact of life I remember feeling very confused why there wasn't one for hockey. If you were a girl who wanted to play you'd have to hang with the boys and be teased and bullied for it and have your parents worried the boys would hurt you, or play some other sport. Most girls chose another sport like lacrosse or basketball.

All the more reason it has been amazing a USA women's team has made it this far.

All this stuff plays a role in Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hours theory and other theories. In fact hockey is one of his biggest examples, since most players have birthdays in the winter, at the beginning of the cut off so they were the biggest kids on the team and given the most playing time which translates into growing into the best players.

Many USA parents here don't know nearly as much about hockey or played nearly as much to be out there every day helping their girl develop her talents. But in Canada this is totally normal. You don't buy your kid a hockey net, you buy them a basketball hoop or a glove. A dad is more apt to get his little girl a softball glove and throw that around as opposed to get her a stick.

All these things play a huge role in being able to have that same girl be able to hang with Canadian Olympians 15 years later. We can't. They were the better team who could pull it off in a clutch position.

Hey, Canada puts hockey players on their CURRENCY, that should tell you something!

It was a sitcom, not a reality television show about remodeling construction! I doubt that putting on an addition to the house would have drawn in the viewers. The show dealt with sibling rivalry and pre-teen (and then teen) problems, not their father's expertise with blueprints.

Yes that's my point, only a few northern cities really treat hockey as seriously as Canada does. Girls teams are nonexistent or on very small scales throughout the rest of the country. As you can see from the roster, almost all the girls are from areas that take hockey seriously. That narrows the playing field when you're picking teams that can compete against Canada to a much smaller population. Whereas when picking a baseball team or basketball team, the talent out there from high school boys is just endless and nationwide.

Yes, hockey is life for some people here, that's for sure. When I was growing up, they didnt really have girls hockey teams - we has to play ringette, which is a bastardized version of hockey.

To tell you the truth, while there are still many kids who are into it, participation in the sport has declined over the last 20 years. While my own boys enjoy watching it, they have had no interest in playing ice hockey. They will play road hockey with their friends, but mine play soccer pretty much year round.

And there are so many more activities for kids to get into as well. Along with the usual swimming and skating lessons, mine have tried rock climbing, judo, and they will be starting a parkour course in a few weeks.

It is expensive and time consuming, I agree. But if they wanted to try it, we'd make it happen. There are too many parents here forcing their kids into the sport, thinking they will make the NHL.

That is interesting that most of the US players are from northern states. I guess it evens the playing field, as our population is 1/10th of the US.

But I will say it was cool to see men lose their sh*t once the women won. That was nice to see - don't think that would have happened 20 years ago!

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

As the only girl in my family, I grew up playing all the same sports that my brothers did, (and usually with them as well). From little league on, I not only played with the boys, but I usually beat them too, and it wasn't until high school that I played on a "girls" team. There might be another girl playing here and there, but I never felt any different from the rest of the players, (or like a girl) until we moved to a state where hockey was a more popular winter sport then basketball. I can remember that we all went to the rink together to sign up. Even my youngest brother who was still a toddler at the time had the skates strapped on him was put out on the ice with a folding chair to push around learning how to skate. Everyone was so excited to try out this new sport, so imagine my surprise when it was my turn to try on skates, and they brought me white figure skates, (which are very different from ice hockey skates). Turns out, I was given figure skates because I was a GIRL, and GIRLS were NOT allowed to play hockey. I was aghast! Even at 7/8 years old I knew this was an outrage, and I've been mad about it ever since! There were some high schools in the area that did have girls hockey, but they were mostly private schools and most public schools only offered girls field hockey. To this day I am still not a big fan hockey, and curiously enough none of my very athletic brothers ever stuck with it either.

Weighing in on the woman's hockey final between the U.S. and Canada, I think two things. The U.S. team outplayed our team, but the Canadian girls just kept grinding, never giving up, fighting to the last minutes of the game.

I heard a radio commentator say that it is far easier to win a bronze and be third than to lose the gold medal and take second place in hockey. It's gold, silver doesn't seem to cut it in this sport, at least not for Canadians, it's nerve- racking as a fan, I can't imagine the pressure on our hockey teams!

I think the U.S. team was just bitterly disappointed, they had their victory in hand and lost it with just minutes to go in the third. Marie Poulin, who scored the winnig goal in OT, apologized to the U.S. goalie when they shook hands, and in typical Canadian fashion said, "sorry".

If you have not been a Fallon fan, record it and find a high school junior or senior to watch it with, or a college student. That's how I got into out, watching it with my dd.

I have to agree. Nearing the last two minutes of the game the Canadian girls amped up their game and scraped up that puck as much as possible. When the American girl was penalized for slashing that was the fatal blow for the Americans. The extra Canadian on the ice helped them clinch the goal.

I don't think the Canadians played horribly. It wasn't a runaway game. A score of 2-0 is not drastic. However, of course it's a punch in the gut to lose when you've been gaining momentum for almost 3 whole periods. I thought the Americans were great and the Canadian hockey team thought so too.

Our population is so much smaller that the US and we do not have the extensive backing of our athletes the way the States does. In fact not too long ago that was a big issue because Canadians were not performing well at the Olympic Games. The government stepped up with funding and promoting our athletes and things have steadily improved. Americans have always totally supported their athletes whether it be financially or just cheering them on. The College football stadiums are bigger than most of our CFL stadiums.

In other Canada/Us rivals, Tessa Virtue-Scott Moir lost the gold medal to Meryl Davis-Charlie White in Ice Dancing. While rumours swirled about judging favourtism and other champions were touting that Virtue-Moir should have won, Tessa and Scott wouldn't even entertain those ideas when asked by the media. That to me is graciousness.

Yes it was a hell of a blow for the US girls but sportsmanship should have come into play during the medal ceremony. In all of the medal ceremonies I've watched I don't recall seeing any other silver medalists pouting when they were awarded.

When we ask for help, we give people the opportunity to contribute to our need! In so doing, we honor them as well. :)

Yikes! I am starting to think TFW is able to post under Milo's name. This "logic" is very twisted, much like Kate's twitter, blog posts, and much like her "couch" interviews," in which she justifies what she does, much of it which is NOT an accurate account of what actually happened.

I agree with everything except that Americans support that athletes. Yes they do, if you play one of the big money maker sports and if you are a male. Do not think for a second the U.S. supports women's hockey. They don't. A Division 1 football school would pour more money into the sport in one season than the U.S. has put into women's hockey since it began.

Woman's hockey is so low on the radar it's not even funny. None of those girls were ever paid a dime by the U.S. And I understand it's the same in Canada, with none of their women players getting paid either. In contrast, a man in the NHL makes on average 1.8 MILLION a season and some make in the several millions.

1.8 millions versus nothing. Yes we support our sports. Men's sports. Big sports like football and basketball. The only reason those girls are playing is for the love of the game, not for the support from the USA or to make money. Most will lose money. This is the same for almost all women's sports in the USA. There are a scant few super stars like the Williams sisters and Kelly Clark and a fledgling women's basketball league that loses millions every single year and everyone else is lucky to break even. There are no professional women's hockey, softball, football or soccer teams (we used to have soccer but it failed). A woman hockey player in the USA does not get any more support here than she would in Canada, if anything she gets less support in the USA as hockey is not even on the radar most anywhere but the Canadian border states. Despite that, they played a fantastic game.

Tuckers mom,

Jon has been defamed since the whole divorce fiasco. Maybe I didn't read enough web sites or watch the right tv shows. I have RARELY read anything good about Jon, from the beginning to present. It's only since his going public lately that I have heard anything in his favor. I think it is the best of two evils to go public. I don't think anyone would in the media would have ever changed their mind had they not talked to him personally. As it is, even still many still have to jab him with a negative name calling before they comment on the good thing.
