'In Loving Memory of Hope': How the tables were turned on Kate by a scammer

Terminal cancer. Kind celebrities who reached out with love and support. A song sung as a dying wish. Nightline's year-long investigation about a sophisticated scam that preyed mostly on celebrities' emotions, not dollars, turned up none other than Kate Gosselin as a victim. Brad Paisley, John Henson, Natalie Grant, and others were also contacted by the scammer, who sometimes pretended a woman was ill and sometimes pretended a little girl was ill.

Kate spoke with Nightline via e-mail, and says she was reaching out in 2008 to a woman named Hope who said she was a cancer patient. She spoke to the woman on the phone for several months, and when she found out Hope had "died" she dedicated an episode of Jon and Kate to her (the episode 'Gosselins Go Skiing and the dedication to Hope at the end can be viewed on Youtube). Kate had no idea she was scammed until Nightline told her recently.

The savvier Natalie Grant, however, suspected something was off right away, but then felt guilty for questioning it. "I actually was mad at myself for even having those thoughts because I thought, 'Natalie, how could you be thinking this? This is a little girl who's on her deathbed, taking her final breaths, how could you even be questioning this?'" Other celebs also suspected something was wrong as the scam was going on, after talking to "Hope" on the phone or asking for details about her treatment.

To see the rest of this fascinating mystery and find out who was behind it all, read the full account here or catch Nightline late tonight (early this morning in some areas, check local listings.)

I'm not thrilled or happy that Kate is crashing. I don't want to see her end up in an institution somewhere. Imagine the effect that would have on the children. I would hope that before that happens, she would get the professional help that she needs. Unfortunately, in order for her to do that, she has to recognize that there is a problem. I don't see that happening, though. Everyone else is to blame, and as long as she has her beloved tweeties who adore her and encourage her through their platitudes, she'll never admit that she's in need of counseling, both with her mental issues, and with parenting. She'll continue this hate campaign against Jon, and because she can't use her Twitter to do this, her fans on there will do it for her. That's what is so sick about this whole thing -- she's using them to do what she can't do, and they don't realize that they are being manipulated to do her dirty work for her.

I just read that, Pat, and was going to comment. What is wrong with her? She makes it sound like those kids are five years old. Why does she throw out these little cutesy things the children say? Is that all she has left...nothing of substance? Of course, the fans chime in with the "oh, they say the most adorable things," among other really generic (and dumb) remarks. Anything to keep her twitter alive, I guess.

I don't see how anyone who "crashes" could have any kind of positive effect on those kids. It must be indeed frightening to watch a parent "crash" and not know what to do about it, how to handle it, and ultimately if that parent is confined to a mental health facility because of it, the worries that those children would face. Would they blame themselves to see their mother in such a condition, somehow thinking they didn't behave, weren't good enough, and couldn't make mommy happy because they were no longer of interest to any network?
*******
I have the exact same thoughts about the kids blaming themselves and being very stressed about Kate's lawsuit.
Kate claims she's protecting them, but truly, she's causing them untold harm.
I can not imagine the anxiety they must feel, between the divorce, their parents acrimony and now a lawsuit.
_______________________________________________________

Add me in this group as well! I worry so much about those kids but have been told that if Jon was worried enough, he'd tell his lawyer and try to change his custody.

It puts my mind at ease that their father thinks they can handle their mother's eventual breakdown without intervention.

Oh for god's sake, it's a review of a sloppy joe. What does the breakup of her marriage have anything to do with browning ground beef, opening a can of tomato sauce, and so on. A 10 year old can make a sloppy joe. Big whoop.

Wait just a minute! You made one huge leap there. Jon can try to change custody all he wants, but until a Judge changes it, he is out of luck.

I doubt this Dorothy Reinhold is Milo. I also found the picture of Joel in her cookbook on Amazon with his face deliberately covered in TFW's concoction of a sloppy Joel to be really degrading for him. I don't care what the slop tastes like, that embarrassing photo was uncalled for.

And I don't believe TFW is having a nervous breakdown. She's still delusional enough to think some network will pick her up for some type of dating, cooking or wholesome family show. Who knows? She may be planning her next cookbook already or her I Just Want You To Know The REAL Truth book according to TFW and her skewed sense of reality.

Gayle said...

She's not saying TFW's recipe is "Shockingly Delicious
Terrific, tried and true, scrumptious, "scary good" recipes that will make YOU a star in the kitchen", that's the (very long) name of her blog. She also has her recipe up for Mac & cheese with tuna (using Kraft blue box as a base). She does put disclaimers on recipes though. She's a member of the Bumble Bee Tuna "Bee Squad" (using tuna because it's a quick and easy ready to go protein) so I'm sure she's compensated every time she prints a review picturing BB tuna, etc. I'm guessing she was paid more than just a copy of the cookbook and that recipe was the best she could pull out of it.

========
I think he understands everything Ziggy. He took the kids OFF TV because he didn't want them filmed while going through the divorce and having two sets of multiples I'm sure he understands the dynamic of multiples. He also understands that having everything handed to them (gifts, toys, clothes, trips) may have caused some entitlement issues on their part. They may just be suffering from the Kate Gosselin induced "we deserve everything on a golden platter because we're better and more special than everyone" syndrome. If Jon sees a problem and is trying to correct the problem that makes him a much better dad than one who sticks his head in the sand and ignores the problem.

I can see the kids on the playground now saying, "Oh, there's "SLOPPY JOEL!" WHAT AN ASS TFW IS! We eventually started calling my brother by just his middle name so the taunting would stop. This Milo is one strange agent. Gawd, There is something going on here. I have long suspected that Milo was behind the free Alabama beach vacation. This person has posted beach vacation pictures before. This is one hell of a strong Kate supporter and why would that be? I guess Uncle Steve has vented Milo, but his track record hasn't been that good. And what gets me is that Milo is so dumb to promote Kate for free. When I had a food blog, I was not looking for freebies in exchange for a post review. I was contacted a lot, too. But, that happy horse shit routine rings fake and duplicitous.

&&&

I never want to read paid reviews of anything, products, books or food or otherwise. The problem with that is there are so many other unpaid reviews of whatever you are looking for out there why in the world would you care to listen to a paid review?

And has anyone ever seen a disclaimer that this review is paid followed by a scathing review? I mean come on. I really don't know why anyone would fork over the money for such a thing, it seems like a giant waste of money given what a turn off it should be.

The picture of Joel holding that sloppy joe and that sloppy joe mess spread on his face is sickening, degrading and abuse! It would of been much better to have had a picture on the side of his face, looking at the camera smiling and almost taking a bite. It would look much better and make you think he really enjoys them.

But to call the recipe Very Sloppy Joels reminds me of when he had the potty training accident and it must of been bad, b/c she screamed we don't live like dogs, boils my blood. That child and all the others should not be subjected to this kind of abuse.

I wish I could be in a restaurant where kate and Steve would be eating and a waiter with a whole platter of mushy oatmeal, salsa and sour milk would just happen to TRIP and every morsel would smear all over her and she couldn't get the stickiness out of her hair and off her Milo craved body for a month.

The other day I read the article about the VSJ's. I tweeted them. Believe me, I. let. them. have. it. I asked the article if they paid Joel for his modeling OR did kate get more cash for her coffers!

For some unknown reason, I can tweet to MiloandJack and kate off their timeline. When I use to, it would say, you have been blocked, but it doesn't anymore.

My son called me this morning and told me that he and his wife and my grandson went out to eat at Chili's last night. They were meeting someone there. My grandson is 6 months old and he was sitting in the high chair and was given goldfish crackers to eat. He was fine. He started fussing really bad. He had never did that before. Bless his heart, when it was over, he had projectiled several times, totally covering my son, ruined his clothes, almost a waitress, massive aisle cleanup.

I told my son, I hate that so bad that happened but I am so glad it did. He was awake and up and his parents were there, could of been asleep and could of choked. He said after, he was laughing, giggling and happy. Thank the Lord!

Dorothy Reinhold wrote restaurant reviews for a local paper years ago, I was not impressed then. It appears that she has found a way, via blogging, to make some $$ with paid ads. Her 'review' comes across way too strong for it to be believable as a 'oh I just found this book and want to review it', so consider the source. She is great PR for herself if you look at her blog. I think she was paid for this review.

They said it was weakening some, but it was very little. They said it was headed to China and Vietnam. I wonder if it hits North Vietnam and it is bad there, maybe the people in the work/prison government camp can escape.

Anyone ever think that down the road TFW will go on a major media blitz and possibly pen a new book about how she has changed after her downfall? Admitting her errors and trying to make amends. I know it wouldn't be genuine but I can't put it past her.
*****
I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to do something like this - but a major media blizt requires that the media be willing to have you on various talk shows and other venues. I feel like Kate has worn out her welcome. Look at her cook book "tour." 3 or 4 signings with low turn out, an appearance on The Bethany Show, and some radio interviews. Not exactly a media blitz. As more time passes, interest continues to fade.

So I just don't see it. Not enough average viewers would give a darn at this point. She's yesterday's news.

I think he understands everything Ziggy. He took the kids OFF TV because he didn't want them filmed while going through the divorce and having two sets of multiples

&&&

Exactly. He was the only one of the two to respect the children's right to deal with a divorce without cameras in their faces. He got it. Shame on any mother who would want to film their kids going through a divorce. It's borderline evil.

And four years later, are they seriously blaming their issues on the divorce?? They split SO long ago. While problems might always come up throughout childhood related to a divorce, this long afterward they should not be having such intense and concerning issues. Therapy and good parents should have long helped them deal with any issues.

More than likely their problems are related to exactly what Jon said, being utterly spoiled and living in the alternative universe that was reality t.v. The only thing he kindly didn't say is that living with Kate undoubtedly contributed to their skewed world view and socially stunted behavior too. Kate has been very clear what her values are (namely, "stuff") so it's no secret what vales those kids are learning from her.

We have been saying this for year. It was not healthy for the children to be around those 20-something men all the time. Those kids needed to be with children their own age and not a production crew. We said it, we warned them, we were concerned FOR YEARS. And now, four years later, the consequence is the kids are struggling with age appropriate friendships. Hate to say told ya so, but it's true.

I've heard this from many celebrity kids who give interviews as adults, that they had a hard time with kids their own age. This is common, but not acceptable.

Remember a while back when Kate did a review for Wantable.com on her blog? She praised the company, talked about how fun it was, how awesome the product was and even photographed the contents of her boxes. Well, I decided I wanted to check it out myself.

Last May, I went to their site and completed their survey. It is very basic, generic and doesn't really give anyone any really good insight into selecting makeup or accessories for you. I wanted to get just one month, but that selection did not work. It forced you into the monthly subscription. Red flags and I should have quit, but I figured I would just cancel after I saw the product. I finally got the boxes in June. I got a makeup box and an accessories box. Now first, Kate claims that the products come wrapped in beautiful pink scarves! LIE! She also did not photograph those scarves so I question whether they exist at all! The products are in shredded black paper and bubble pack. The makeup box gives you 5 products. They claim full size, not travel size. Well, partially true. I got a blush, with no brush to apply it in hideous neon pink. A travel lipstick brush?? Get this, anti aging wrinkle cream! They don't ask your age, hair color, eye color...I'm in my early thirties, I think more appropriate product should be selected, and it was travel size! Also,I said, NO nail polish. Guess what I got? Nail polish! It was a hideous glittery, copper color. I think there was an eye shadow, but it was a white powder. For my eyes? If I put their products on all together I would look like a clown. The product is pure junk!
Now on to the accessories box. This is where Kate really had something funny going on. She photographed, 5 accessories, plus her mysterious 2 scarves, which is 7 accessories. Each box comes with a max of 4 and depending on what they are sometimes only 3! So, did they give her 2 boxes, one for each twin? That makes more sense to me and is the only explanation I could come up with. My accessories were 3 earrings and a bracelet. I didn't want 3 pairs of earrings. Additionally, again I told them NO gold jewelry, only silver. The earrings, we're gold! And CHEAP! They had pink, purple stones, very gaudy and they looked like 5 dollar earrings. I would never wear them. Needless to say it was all going back. It was all cheap garbage that only a kid playing dress up would want to wear.
There is no customer service! Only an email address. So I emailed my disappointment, told them how badly they messed up my preferences and cancel my subscription. I got no response. Every month, more boxes. I called my credit card company and they blocked the company. The next month, more boxes?! According to my credit card company, they changed the name they billed under to bypass my block! After a couple months of this, I closed my account. Then, more boxes!! I called my credit card company, guess what, they got around that because it's a monthly subscription, so they got paid from a closed account. I could not stop them, no matter what I did! Every month I refused to accept the boxes so that I didn't have to pay shipping to send them back. So they told me they put a fraud alert on their company on my card. In a last ditch effort I sent an email to them from my account so I had record, told them that if they billed me one more time I was going to take legal action!

Kate endorses junk and couldn't care anything about the product so long as she gets her freebies and compensation. Clearly, either the company gave her product that they don't give normal customers or she knowingly lied. Anyone who read her review and purchased based on what she described is going to get a rude awakening when there product comes.

Implicitly, you don't bite the hand that feeds you.
Look, be real, it's tacitly understood that the review will AT THE VERY LEAST be slanted in a positive direction, even if that means the paid/compensated reviewer omits the negative.
I think that the (mostly) mommy bloggers can have a decent side gig going with a monetized blog and freebies for reviews on their site. I think it's a good way to spread awareness of a product, if the blogger has a decent following and has maximized their social media presence. But the buck stops there.
If I want more honest reviews, I'll check out Amazon or Yelp etc., where the reviewer spent their own money with no strings attached.

Thank you for your review and wow!, I'm sorry that you wasted more and more money, despite your efforts to stop the junk delivery.
I think I wrote back then, when TFW suddenly "discovered" this really neat product!!! (!!! gratuitous).
It seemed so juvenile that a grown woman would do this. Maybe grade school or high school, but a grown woman pucks out her own make-up and jewelry.
I used to trade surprise packages with a good girlfriend when I was probably in third grade or so. We'd each pack up baubles and such and put them into a paper bag and trade.
It was fun, WHEN I WAS A KID!
TFW most likely never handed over her credit card # like the people she duped into subscribing to this crap did. She probably wouldn't care or do anything to remedy it if she did know.
But, let's all feel sorry for TFW because the scamming scammer got scammed.

I think the timing is perfect in light of Kate's cookbook getting positive rhetorical pablum reviews from the likes of the blog linked above.
A more honest review would include describing which potential buyers might be interested in the book, and who should save their dollars.
For instance, a more honest and impacting review would include telling her readers that if they've got cooking skills beyond rudimentary, this book is not for you. There are very basic dishes that are not technique-focused, so if you want ideas for your dinner table, it might be of interest, but if you're looking to improve your cooking skills, try looking at x,y or z cookbooks.
The blogger misses an opportunity to discern (based on their self- reported cooking acumen and "foodie" designation) who are the target audiences for Kate's cookbook and write her "review" with weighted recommendations.

-------------------------

Great minds think alike! After reading your review I did a search for the company (Better Business Bureau, Google, etc...). The BBB didn't have them, and no complaints have been filed (although if I were you I would seriously consider filing a complaint). All of the reviews I found were glowing and they all said they were given free stuff to write the review. Wantables must be sending their stuff to every woman-run blog out there! That's so frustrating to those who want a true review!

Well I appreciate your *honest* review. My general rule of thumb is to stay away from subscriptions like that. I had a cd-of-the-month club back in the day and was always forgetting to send back the cds I didn't like. Then I had Netflix back when they were only dvds-in-the-mail and was always forgetting to mail back the dvds. Then, when I wanted to cancel, they were just like Wantables in that they only had an online customer service, and it was next-to-impossible to cancel. Took me three months before they finally stopped sending me stuff. The subscription companies make a lot of money on the concept that people will forget to do things to back out. It's just not for me.

I still find it hard to believe she was a Kindergarten teacher.

I find that comment rude and insulting. I have never made a comment like that to anyone here who I might disagree with about their profession.
First of all you don't know anything about me or my teaching experience. Let me give you a small preview .......

Blowing in the wind you said as a teacher I should know a little about child psychology actually I know a lot . My major in college was Child Development and my minor was Psychology. I had over 1,200 students with every situation that you can imagine , and when I was in college I worked with underprivileged children from migrant worker.

I've dedicated my entire adult life helping children. All during my career I was the first to arrive at school and the last to leave, and maybe that's why I had a waiting list of children to get into my class at the beginning of every year.

I have never discussed my career before because I didn't see a need but this is not the first time I have been insulted.

As far as Kate having a nervous breakdown, even though I'm not a Psychiatrist, I don't believe that will happen. But I do think she will be an angry and bitter individual.

And because of my teaching experience, raised in an abusive home, an animal lover I proudly put myself in the group that wants Kate to fall with a bang! Their is nothing to love or like about Kate Gosselin! And that bang will be a better life for those kids because maybe, just maybe she'll realize all she has are those children.

Okay enough said I do have to go on a short hiatus. I'm working on a project for kids, so I guess I'm never going to be officially retired

Happy holidays with your family and friends!!!

The worst part was hearing that even when you closed out your credit card, charges would still acrrue. I don't understand how that can be allowed.

When this discussion first came around, I remember that several of us reminisced about subscribing to a monthly beauty club back in the 70's, where you would get a box of makeup once a month, along with the bill. If you didn't want it, you returned it at your cost. Simpler times, and as I remember, the products were at least decent, not just a bunch of crap.

I also like how she said that someone who knows very little about makeup would actually learn something from it! Ha! Hart: I went through my junior high days feeling left out. All those normal teenage angst things that teens feel, whether they're real or not, feeling like a dork, like I didn't fit in. That's also why I loved being on set. If I was on a set and did a good job and having fun nobody cared what I wore. Noooo, the blogger who wrote the review is not Milo. Milo found/read the review and sent the link to HCI.

Why didn't Kate send her book to various food bloggers for review? Why not have it reviewed on the The Stir?

That's what HCI, her publisher did. They probably sent the book to a few bloggers to review. If TFW had any motivation or drive she'd have done it herself, too - especially after the contacts she SHOULD have made at the BlogHer convention she attended but we know how she handles things like tweeting radio/tv/book tours - she doesn't. I'd not be surprised in the least if she's done nothing like sending the book to others to review. Looks like so far, only one blog review has been written and/or spotted.

So it was perfect for Kate, then! She's had a rough morning...didn't put the coffee pot under the coffee maker and it spilled. Then the can of dog food dropped and went all over the counter. Such stress! My gosh -- imagine having to get through a day when your morning begins like that. Of course she tweeted about it. She needed her tweeties to commiserate with her.

She just doesn't live in the real world. Here's a real wake-up call...daughter, who just learned to drive, calls early one morning to tell you her car died on the interstate, trucks whizzing by, no safe place to stand, and the car was on fire. You're sick in bed with the flu, having spent the night in the bathroom, and she's begging you to come and get her -- about a half hour away. Your husband is away on a business trip and she wants her mom! You go, praying that she's safe, imagining all kinds of things happening. You take a bag with you in case you have to throw up along the way. But you go nevertheless and you don't think twice about it.

Kate, that's stress. Stress is not having to wipe coffee off a kitchen counter.

I agree Millicent. From Ally's description it sounds like the kinds of low quallity makeup and jewlery you'd find at the Dollar Tree.

The founder, Jalem Getz, decribes himself as "a serial entrepreneur focused on my forth company: Wantable, Inc."

"Because each customer is unique, wantable.co dynamically adjusts the product assortment for each user. Gone are the things customers don’t want; gone are the walks down the aisles of products for other people. Wantable.co is a beautiful new thing."

There are a lot o parallels to stories like Kate's. The bubble of celebrity, quietly yet strongly enforced secrecy to keep the money and fame train going, enablers and something that makes the sociopathic deceiver virtually unquestioned and unexamined.
In Armstrong's case, it was cancer and in Kate's, it was HOM's.
Both achieved vaunted status; Armstrong in the cycling world and Kate in the Evangelical Christian world and sisterhood of motherhood.
People are reluctant to judge their heros because they are entrenched in their beliefs and that they are right in their beliefs, and would rather ignore red flags and warning signs, justifying them away until said hero is caught red handed.
For Kate, that's going to be Robert's book, and her hubris is going to be the catalyst that puts it front and center.

Sorry I should have had a note on that. TODAY'S Netflix is MUCH better. I had it when they first came out because I loved the idea and they were so much cheaper than Blockbuster's in-store movie rentals. At the time, they were very scammy (they were a start up trying to make money and I don't think they had the number of staff they needed to properly run their business). They advertised free trials but then made it so you couldn't cancel them. It made them swear them off.

Several years later I got married and my husband really wanted to try the Netflix streaming. Even though I hated Netflix, I loved my husband more, so we tried it, took it beyond the free trial for a month or two, then cancelled it with absolutely no problems. I feel like the streaming is a little bit better because there's nothing for me to do other than when I'm bored remember that I have a Netflix subscription and go watch something. Plus they made cancelling SO much easier. It was an obviously located button. No needing to email anyone, no waiting for a response, no getting frustrated by lack of response, no emailing again, and again, and again, and one last time with "lawyers" and "litigation" in the subject line like I had to do that first time.

Do sheeple think that if they tell their revision of the facts that it'll somehow miraculously change the truth? Do they have such poor memories that they don't remember that Jon maintained his custody schedule no matter where he was living at the time? And, what difference did it make whether he was in Outer Mongolia or in Wernersville if it wasn't his custody time and he couldn't see the kids anyway? Have they conveniently forgotten the things she wrote about each child in IJWYTK or that she recently said she found them hard to love on her blog? Do they not realize it doesn't take much time to notice children struggling socially? They're certainly not making any points for themselves in the legitimate/fact based/reliable source departments. Don't they get tired of their nonsense or do they thrive on trying different ways to try to alter the facts? Gawd, I wish I hadn't looked at TFW's TL.

Why would Deanna send a story to In Touch that made Kate look like she has a sad life and her fame is over? Certainly not for pity, because after reading that story, what network would want to hire someone who is so "done" in the entertainment industry? They want names, someone to draw ratings since it's all about money for them. They don't do charity cases.

I just read the review of Very Sloppy Joels by Dorothy Reinhold. One thing that stood out to me is that she said " I privately marveled at the logistics it took to outmaneuver eight children – a set of twin girls, and septuplets. Later on she also says "Today, though, let’s make her Very Sloppy Joels, named after one of her septuplets, Joel Kevin, born with his five siblings on May 10, 2004."

So, Joel has FIVE siblings, but he is is one of SEPTuplets? No wonder she also stated "That woman has to know how to get dinner on the table, times 10, every night!"

How can you believe a review by a person who can't even get the facts straight that the younger children are SEXtuplets?

The whole review just made me laugh and shake my head.

I don't know who the source was but it's possible if it was someone from Kate's camp they thought the story would be spun like any other poor pitiful Kate story, take pity on her. Instead it was spun as look at how sad and pathetic this has been is. When you're a source you can't always control the angle the story will take and things can backfire.

Your quote gave me chills!! You wrote "wantable.co". Do you know how the company got around my first credit card block? They changed the name of the company they billed under. The second month, it was processed as "wantable.co" instead of "wantable.com".

Terrible. I watched a piece on CNN about the male uhhhh.. enhancement supplement called EnZyte. That company absolutely refused to allow people to cancel, even going so far as to (illegally) tell people they needed to get a note from their doctor in order to stop the monthly shipments.

I had a really rough time with xbox/Microsoft. I used to allow my kids to renew their subscriptions with my credit card. They always asked me first and there was never a problem, until Microsoft started involuntary auto renewal. If you used a credit card to buy a subscription, you were agreeing to have that card charged 4x a year unless you checked 'turn off auto renew.' My kids would check the box- but Microsoft would still renew. I called Microsoft, removed my card from the accounts and told them to not charge that card again. Unfortunately, they did continue to charge my card on and off for the next 3 years, even though my kids were using pre-paid xbox cards for their accounts. I would have cancelled the credit card, but we have had it for 24 years and it carries some benefits that are grandfathered in from holding the card for so long. Every time I would look at my statement and see another charge, I wanted to cry. There oughta be a law.

I finally threatened to report them to the BBB and they cancelled it and refunded the unused portion of my money. I had to call and write them for several months before they got around to it, though. When I was a kid, my dad's boss gave him the Cheese of the Month Club for Christmas one year. Of course, we didn't pay for that, and it was for one year only, but it was such fun waiting to see what new cheeses we'd get. Umm they changed times and nights a FEW times but hardly enough to ruin a show. Besides they were doing that when the ratings were rock bottom anyway, so it was probably just an effort to try out some different times to save it.

I think the bottom line is it failed because the got realitized. They weren't a struggling family anymore they were a family that lived in a mansion and got lavish trips. And, Jon was gone so the dynamic between Kate and Jon that interested viewers was gone. So, as WTF said, people didn't watch. It's as simple as that. Some of their LOWEST ratings ever were the trips. That should tell you something.

Add this to the fact that they were airing all this crap during the height of the recession. Not wise.

Even on J&K plus 8 she talked about 7 embryos were seen and then all of a sudden there were only six, that the seventh one was absorbed back in her body. She basicly made a liar out of herself in that People article. Kate's lackey fans alway say Jon is selling stories to the media. Really, how is it that the media knows about things about Kate, in these stories, that Jon could careless about or know about. Unless he was living in that household, or privy to Kate or has a spy in her house. Course the kids could be telling him. But, Jon comes off to me as a person who would not sell out his kids or himself, to the media(after years of dealing with the show) unless he really had something to say. And since all these years were, pretty much, he was under a gag order of sorts, the only one who could have been leaking stories to the media was/is Kate or her co-horts.. In our local newspaper today, Reading Eagle (Gosselin hometown) there was a letter to the editor about the Gosselins. I thought it was very interesting that they specifically mentioned interacting with Kate. Also they mentioned "giving back" to the community. Things we have talked about here. Just another observation showing Kate is not well liked and adored in this community as her fans (and Kate herself) seem to think.

Editor:

Your story "Winfrey to air interview with Jon Gosselin Sunday" (Reading Eagle, Nov. 2) made me cringe. The interview was to tell how Kate Gosselin and he differ in parenting styles and he would like to resume a regular life with the kids.

Here's a thought: Stop doing useless interviews. The Gosselins should have realized that their 15 minutes of fame is long gone. I don't care about tell-all books or if one of them is doing an interview.

Please stop beating this dead horse. People who have interacted with the Gosselins have heard enough to make their ears bleed. Especially those of us who have experienced one of Kate Gosselin's famous venomous tirades.

Berks County has plenty of famous actors, actresses, musicians, artists, writers and professional athletes who grew up here or live here. Many of them are gracious enough to work with local charities to give back to Berks County.

It would better serve our community if this paper concentrated more on these celebrities who can be role models for our children than two people who make headlines for bashing each other.

It is a sad reflection on this paper when you hit the news category on the online edition and find the name Gosselin listed.

They have taken it upon themselves to fabricate a narrative for her and Kate goes along with it. Such as when TFWs Stir blog was ended. Milo immediately claimed it was because her contract was up. Milo also tried to claim once that Kate had a restraining order on Jon, a comment which Kate did nothing to dispute. Milo was immediately jumped on and proof? links? were demanded. She finally had to admit maybe she had wrong info. Kate refusing to allow the father of her children on her property is a far cry from a restrianing order.

That crap is why it just slays me that TFW had the nerve to "set the record straight" (for the 1,673 rd time) about Jon's comments on Oprah. She had to do this in case the kids someday "stumble" across the interview. Hey Kate? How about when your kids "stumble" across the hate filled, libelous tweets about their father YOU and your TWEETIES have lodged against him for the last almost three years? Not only did you not do a thing to stop them, you joined them. I'm so glad that after years of circling the bowl, this turd is finally going to flush.

A Facebook friend posted an interesting article on my newsfeed this morning. It's about a divorcing couple from Minnesota, who apparently were criticizing one another in front of there kids. A Minnesota judge had some harsh words for them. What the judge said reminds me so of TFW, and how she is damaging the kids. Here is what the judge wrote-

“Your children have come into this world because of the two of you. Perhaps you two made lousy choices as to whom you decided to be the other parent. If so, that is your problem and your fault.

No matter what you think of the other party—or what your family thinks of the other party—these children are one-half of each of your. Remember that, because every time you tell your child what an “idiot” his father is, or what a “fool” his mother is, or how bad the absent parent is, or what terrible things that person has done, you are telling the child half of him is bad.

That is an unforgivable thing to do to a child. That is not love. That is possession. If you do that to your children, you will destroy them as surely as if you had cut them into pieces, because that is what you are doing to their emotions.

I sincerely hope that you do not do that to your children. Think more about your children and less about yourselves, and make yours a selfless kind of love, not foolish or selfish, or your children will suffer.”

The kids have learned morals at home, and it's been the big whoppers like taking money from people when you live like millionaires, but it's also been the little things too that I'm sure add up in a child's mind to shape their morals and values.

Just for an example, Tony once said that he had been reaching out to Kate after DTWS but she wouldn't return his phone calls. I don't know what little juvenile pouting game she was playing, but it is good manners and common courtesy to teach children that when someone reaches out to you, unless that person is abusive or something of that nature, you should at least respond politely. Phone calls should be returned in a prompt manner and you should listen to what they have to say. You should make a special effort to return phone calls of someone who did so much to try to help you. She need not be best friends with Tony but this is the sort of little things that kids process. When the kids have someone call them they don't feel like talking to, have they learned to just not return the call? That's what bad manners is, frankly, even though it's just a small example. It adds up to shape who a kid turns out to be: a kid who always responds politely and in kind to those who reach out, or a kid who thinks it's okay to ignore a nice gesture like that. Sad.

++++++++++++++

I completely agree with the local.

However, the crux of the problem lies with Kate. She has steadfastly refused to acknowledge that her fame has been stuck at 14 minutes and 45 seconds for the last 2 years. She. will. not. go. away. In order to stay relevant, she reduced herself to fabricating controversy with Jon, no easy feat because for the most part, the man had taken himself out of the public eye. He was silent for a long time, but she poked and poked and poked and finally sued him- dragging his name through the mud and making some nefarious allegations in the process. He's getting slammed for speaking out now, but really... how much more was he supposed to take? This is a man still in his 30s who is the father of 8 children. He needs to earn a living and co-mingle with society. This woman has been publicly trashing him for 4 years. Like he said in the Rountable interview, enough is enough. If this is what she wants she's going to get it right back.

Subtle, but TWF seems to trying on a new costume for size. Watch the hashtags from the last couple of days, which paint a pseudo-humbled portrait of Herself. #NotBuyingIt

#GOTCHA (after being corrected by a child)
#AllMyFault (the kitchen debacle)
#I'mLearning (follows a platitude about dealing with unfavorable life circumstances)

========

What an excellent observation! I was surprised by the #AllMyFault hashtag as it sounded so unlike TFW... but I didn't notice the pattern. Here's a thought for TFW: if she'd actually been humble in '08 and '09 when she was a hot commodity, she might still be on TV. Back then, she was (in her mind) a Hollywood STAH and deserved limos and Nobu and "protection from 'the little people.'" She blew it. Too little, too late, Katie! No one but Milo cares now.... It's over.

Haven't read all the comments, but I want to say this anyway...
THIS is the one that makes me want to scream:
MARIE ‏@MY_3BCOLLIES

@Kateplusmy8 How can a dad diagnose his kids when he splits visitation & sees each child ONCE a month?

+++++++++++++++++

What makes me scream is that Kate is using them to berate the father of her children. She knows a statement such as this from an idiot sheeple isn't true, but she would never correct it. Just once I wish she'd do what's right and let them have it. She's so quick to "set the record straight" when it's going to make HER look good, but never once has she told these butt-kissers to knock it off about Jon.. She knows there was no restraining order on Jon. She knows that he sees these kids more than once a month, but she just lets them have their fun and take down Jon.

@Urdirtysecret crap lies as usual. Ignore them&buy REAL news like @peoplemag or others who do actual interviews & tend to write the truth.

So Kate's saying that In Touch is crap. If she or her PR put the bug in their ear and were responsible for that story, i doubt if she'd call the magazine crap.

The one sheeple is whining about the haters bringing up the subject of her husband's memorial page, in which there was a condolence signed "Kate G." Why doesn't Kate set the record straight and confirm that yes, she signed that page? That would put an end to it.

How the heck would she know if a blighted ovum was male or female?

She didn't know, and to be fair to Kate, she never said that she knew. She said that the kids decided it was a female.

More than likely their problems are related to exactly what Jon said, being utterly spoiled and living in the alternative universe that was reality t.v

I see your point. However, the fact that those kids were beaten and abused by their mother pretty much guaranteed that these kids were going to have issues in all of the areas Jon listed, show or no show. Although Jon definitely was the nurturing parent, he was, in his own words, too passive to intervene and took leadership from Kate in all decisions of parenting.

This is a great article on the effects of abuse on development, for foster parents dealing with children from abusive homes. Every issue that Jon listed is addressed in this article.

"Effects of Abuse and Neglect on Development"

http://www.dshs.wa.gov/ca/fosterparents/training/chidev/cd05a.htm

The next biggest contributor (IMO, of course) was the divorce, itself--even if it had been civil and private. Now add in the show and all of the paparazzi attention on too of all that--it is unimaginable.

Since they were in the unique position of being on the show, it is easy to point fingers to that as the cause of the problem.

However, the physical and verbal abuse the kids suffered puts them at high risk for developmental delays, all of the issues described by Jon, addiction, codependency with an addict or abuser, sexual acting out, eating disorders, criminal behavior and also makes them vulnerable to future victimization by other people.

Add the loss of privacy and two parents who are BOTH publicizing their problems, each under the guise that only they are the parent that has the children's interest at heart, and it will be a miracle if any of them enter adulthood with any healthy tools for living and without major problems in multiple areas.

If being on a reality show is the cause of all of the kids problems, then how do the Hayes fit into that? They filmed around 30 episodes, and did not morph into the self-absorption and greed of the Gosselins. There were trips, and perks, I'm sure. But Neither parent saw the show as a path to a new career or stardom, The reality show was just a part of their lives that is now over, while, for the Gosselin kids, it is the nightmare that just won't end. And both parents are participating in this.

It is the job of parent's to protect their kids, not corporations and networks. But parents signed a second contract, knowing full well what filming was like.

Too bad that it took so long for Jon to see what was in plain sight to so many others, including this blog. Putting personal lives on display for public consumption has consequences.

I think with all the hitting, pinching, screaming and taunting we saw among the kids on the show, one has to conclude they were either used to such behavior from their 'role models' aka parents and the children were also not disciplined appropriately for it. How many times did only the camera catch the behavior? Kate even said the camera was Mady's conscience. The boys hitting each other over the head with hard wooden blocks, girls pinching, shoving, screeching, kids grabbing toys or wrecking each other's projects...it was Lord of the Flies.

Who the hell brings up their blighted ovum to anyone ... let alone their young children?! I'm guessing the kids determining the sex and name were for the benefit of selling a book.

I don't care how carefully you tried to explain a blighted ovum to a child, they wouldn't assign it a sex or give it a name unless someone told them it had been their actual brother or sister who wasn't born ... or something along those lines. Very sad and sick stuff in my opinion.

It could be that he saw this for quite some time, but because she must have been hell on wheels to live with and threatened that if he didn't stick by her his life would have been miserable, he knew that she meant business. That's no excuse for submissiveness, but then again, we weren't there and didn't know what it must have been like in that house, nor what he did to try to do that was in best in the interest of his children.

Kind of off the topic, but does anyone think "Milo" could be Kate's mother? I believe she used to post at the IW site. Maybe this is her way of supporting Kate, by being her number one fan. That could also explain why Kate puts up with the over the top gushing/a** kissing from Milo.

Seriously, people: I think Kate's second contract, with TLC, was the Kate plus 8 show. A separate contract, with some of the original goodies: such as: paying the monthly mortgage on the house, plus the home owners insurance and the property tax, and school tuition, the car payments, and any other property maintance thing. And if TLC sold both shows on the world market, Kate gets a percentage. This would be reasonable in why she is getting desperate for a show or making big bucks with the book. She slipped recently about still being under contract with TLC. Probably hoping they would give her another show. TLC had enough, of her, and paying for her up keep. How else is she maintaining that house, paying the mortgage, taxes, home insurance and school tuition(remember both said the money put (supposely)away for school is for college, not the present school), maintaining the cars. Where is this money coming from, not to mention, credit cards, utlities, that need to be paid every month. That patch & whatever of the finances, was nothing more than a dog & pony show. All this time Kate has never paid for anything of major importance, TLC was flipping the bills. Now that is coming to an end or has just ended. Now she is starting to worry, or is she? A regular/normal/mediocre/ every day person, in her shoes, would have, downsized by now, sold un-nessesary things, got rid of 2 of the cars, and put the kids in a public school in the same town, stop the trips to NYC, and got a 8-4 job. That is BS, my pay check would go to pay for daycare(her kids are in school all day, and she already has a sitter/hire help to watch the kids for 4 hours a day after school. who is paying for that? And why does she need someone , when she is home all day?), She can still hold an 8-4 job and have hired help there for 4 hours. She just does not want to work. JMO

Well, Kate just tweeted, that In touch is full of lies and that People is the only truthful one. Really kate, then how come you had some lies in People. Like, I have no hired help, but when Katie Couric, interviewed you, she said you don't have any hired help, EXCEPT 20 hours a week? and that Steve is no longer in your employ, but he was on your recent book tour. Truth beware!

lol!! Looks like old Dorothy corrected the mistakes on her blog, probably thanks to Gladys!

So Kate doubles a recipe...and that's amazing? EVERY night? Seems they eat at Chipotle quite a bit, and they probably don't eat when they are with Jon because Kate's not there to get dinner on the table.

TFW's fans love to do this--make up wild lies and put them on Twitter. They are looking to rile up the non-fans, who will jump on the comment and deny it. Then the fans can reassure each other it's true, tell the non-fans they can't prove it's not true...it goes on and on. And the fans also know that statements like that make TFW happy and elevate them in her eyes. She can get lies out there without having to tell them herself. It's a win-win for her fans.
It's funny to look at the desperate need for conflict on TFW's twitter. The fans get bored tweeting TFW about how wonderful se is, and one of them throws a ludicrous comment like that out there. The non-fans jump on it, and the war is on. The fans assure each other that they are "LMAO" or "ROFL", call the non-fans haters, talk about how sad and pathetic haters are....it's ridiculous, it's petty, and it probably contributes to TFW's lack of marketability. Anyone who might consider making her an offer just has to look at that cesspool and the deal is off. TFW thinks she's winning some kind of war, but as her third year of unemployment drags on, it's hard to imagine that she can't see the damage her fans are doing to her and her reputation. Couldn't happen to a more deserving person, could it?

Then why go on national television and blame a corporation for spoiling the kids, when he, an adult, was too afraid to stand up to TFW? Maybe TLC was also afraid to stand up to her--would that excuse them? Parents are responsible for protecting their children. Going on national television to once again thrust them into the spotlight is just more failing to protect them. IMO, of course. And, if this is some kind of strategy for the lawsuit, then, once again, the kids are being exploited. IMO--I don't expect many of you to agree with me.
