Baby Jessica's dad: 'I’m very glad that I don’t have to look at my daughter and say “Sorry, your money is gone!”'

In an exclusive interview with Realitytvkids.com, Chip McClure talks about fame, the tragic suicide of one of the rescuers, his unquenchable faith, and how he made sure his daughter, and her money, were protected.

Chip says he was a teenager "shy to the point of being incapacitated"
when he had to give a national press conference during Jessica's ordeal.
Last week we were pleasantly surprised to find an e-mail from Chip McClure in our inbox. Chip is the father of the famous baby who fell down a Midland, Texas well in 1987 and was miraculously pulled out alive three days later. He was only 18 years old when the accident happened. Today he continues to live in Texas and sells airplanes. Chip reached out to us to thank us for an article we wrote a few years ago talking about what a good job he and Jessica's mom, 17-year-old Cissy, did protecting Jessica from fame and safeguarding her money. On a whim, we asked if Chip would be willing to be interviewed about his experience in the spotlight and raising a famous child, especially now that he has the benefit of 25 years of hindsight. Much to our delight, he agreed. Thank you, Chip, and thank you for being a shining example of what a good parent really is under incredible circumstances.

Everybody's Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure can be found on Netflix streaming, Amazon and Youtube.

Realitytvkids.com: The coverage of baby Jessica was one of America's first pseudo "reality" shows. At what point did you become aware of how big the story was and how famous your daughter was, and what was that realization like?
Chip: I was standing in Jessica’s hospital room the night we got her out. It was a surreal moment, it had been so intense. We were so focused on getting her back alive that we didn’t really give any thought to what it would be like when it was over. So, here the three of us are, Jessica is lying in her bed, Cissy lying beside her. I’m standing there with my hands in my pocket. Relief setting in and the adrenaline wearing off. I did what anyone would do, I turned on the T.V. There just happened to be a story about Jessica. Well, that’s cool, I remember thinking. This is on T.V! So, I changed the channel. Much to my surprise she was on that channel too. Fifty-seven channels and there’s nothing on except Jessica’s rescue. That’s when I first knew how big the story was.

It's well known that donations poured in for Jessica, some reports estimating about a million dollars all together. What did you do with the money?
The money was set up in a trust fund for Jessica, it provided for her necessities and education as she grew up. When she turned 25 years old the money was released to her control. We did use a portion of the funds to buy a modest home in the Midland, but these were funds that were either cash or sent directly to Cissy and I. For example, there would be numerous checks that were made out to us and the memo line would be “Dinner on us!” Because these funds were not sent to Jessica directly, they could not be deposited into the trust. It was a typical trust that was managed by a bank in Midland. We received monthly documentation of how it was managed and invested but the bank handled the details.

Did you ever feel temptations to dip into Jessica's money?
There really weren’t temptations, the intent from the beginning was that it be for Jessica. There were times when it would have been tempting to use the money to fund a project or a business venture, but a trust does not have provisions for that. The best thing you can do with money in a situation is to leave it alone, let it grow to a substantial amount so that it can truly provide for the beneficiary.

You only allowed the media to update the public on Jessica two times as she grew up. Why did you decide to limit her access to the public so severely?
We kept her out of the spotlight so that she would have the opportunity for a normal life. Once she was old enough to decide what she wanted to do she decided to keep it to a minimum. She really likes just being a normal girl. She likes knowing that people like her as a person and not just because she is a notable figure.

You and Jessica's mom were just 18 and 17 years old when this happened. Do you think being so young helped you or hurt you in being able to handle your lives becoming such an enormous public spectacle?
The truth is that it was an extreme disadvantage. Not only were we so very young, but I was shy to the point of being incapacitated. I had just accepted a job with a retail sporting goods store and the owner wasn’t sure it was going to work out because I was too shy to deal with the public. What did help, what saved us from certain embarrassment, was the fact that we were surrounded by very good people that protected us and helped us handle the situation and publicity. It still amazes me the people that God had placed in my life, in advance, who would be there for us at a time when we needed them most. The most notable is a man that is a life-long friend, in fact he has known me my whole life. He was involved in politics with my father. My family doesn’t have “god parents” but if they did Darrell Smith would be my godfather. Darrell came in and handled everything, he became our attorney and mentor. He called in a favor from Texas State Senator Pete Snelson, to handle public relations for us. Darrell assisted with the trust that was set up and the subsequent movie deal. I truly do not know what we would have done without him.

When did you explain to Jessica what happened to her and the large amount of money waiting in trust for her? One report says she actually found out not through you but by watching Rescue 911.

That report is actually false. Jessica grew up knowing about her trust and being invol
Jessica and her family in 2012.

ved in the media decisions. Statements like that make good T.V. and help to promote other shows. I’m sure it originated with a comment, but was taken out of context. It’s like saying when did you set the kids down and tell them daddy is the president. The kids don’t have to be told, they just grow up with it. It’s all about how it is lived, the attitude of the parents. With Jessica we never made it a big deal, so it wasn’t a big deal. This allowed her to have a good attitude about life and her position in it.

All reports suggest Jessica and your family has dealt with what happened to her very well. Why in your opinion has your family not become another casualty of fame?
The short answer is the grace of God. Any time you are thrust into the spotlight things can go very poorly. It really depends on your heart and your attitude. If you feel thankful for the love and attention, people will see that. If you thrive on the fame and attention, they’ll see that too. I am very thankful that all went well, the glory goes to God though. We were too young and naïve to make it through this good.

Fireman Robert O'Donell helped pull Jessica
from the well. He later committed suicide.
For Robert, fame was "like a drug," Chip says.
Unfortunately, one of Jessica's rescuers was not able to handle the publicity very well and in 1995, just days after the Oklahoma City bombing, he committed suicide. What are your thoughts on that?
Robert was a friend, and I was deeply disturbed by how the media spotlight affected him. One night we were at a party and he told a young lady that he was "the guy who rescued Baby Jessica.” Her response was; “Yeah, you and 400 other people!” Let’s just say that Robert didn’t shy from the attention, he lived for it. It was like a drug that he would have been better off not being introduced to. A few years after the incident, the media attention abruptly stopped. I was relieved; Robert was despondent. He had many other issues that are private matters that I won’t go into. These things were a more relevant and current concern at his time of death, and in my opinion were much greater factors in his fatal decisions that day. Though, we will never really know what was going through his mind at the time.

Do you regret any decisions you made in regards to all of this? Is there anything you would have done differently or better?
I’m sure we would all do things different giving the opportunity and retaining our current knowledge and maturity, but again considering our age and circumstances I think we were very blessed to have everything go the way that it did.

You and Jessica's mom eventually divorced. Did anything about being in the public eye contribute to that break-up?
It didn’t contribute to the break-up, it probably extended the marriage. The fact is we were both children when we met. We were not in love. I wish this had been a storybook in that sense, but it wasn’t. The good news is God’s grace is sufficient, and as bad as we mess things up He has a way of making the best out of it. As far as co-parenting, you have to place the child(ren) above your own feelings. You have to make them the priority and not pawns in a war between ex-spouses.

What are your thoughts on parents who put their children in the public eye? What is your advice to them?
It’s a scary way to make a life for yourself and your children. I do believe that if your intentions are good and you keep God at the center of everything that you do it can be great. If you are selfish, greedy and looking for fame, it’s going to be a tough life. For you and your children.

Do you have any words of caution to parents who are choosing to spend their children's money now instead of protecting it?
Resentment from your children is a painful thing. I’m very glad that I don’t have to look at my daughter and say; “Sorry, your money is gone!”

Reality shows weren't very popular in 1987, but had you been offered a reality show would you have signed on?
No. The idea has been bantered around over the last few years, it’s not something Jessica wants to do.

What was the worst part about the family being famous, and conversely, what did you like about it?
The worst part is that you do attract some unhealthy attention. For every thousand people that truly love and care about your family, there’ll be one who is a little off. This can be scary and dangerous. Any famous family has the opportunity to do wonderful things and touch people’s lives, they just have to want to do that.

Have you ever seen "Jon and Kate Plus 8" and what are you thoughts about the pervasive invasion of the children's privacy on such an on-going basis?
I haven’t watched the show more than a few minutes, so I probably don’t have enough information to comment. It’s probably not healthy and the sad part is the kids didn’t get to choose.

Any thoughts on parents who "over share" about their children on sites like Facebook and Twitter?
I have both a Twitter account and a Facebook page, I started both fairly recently as I begin to consider writing a book. The Facebook page has really been a source for excellent feedback and encouragement. I do say very little about Jessica or her family on Facebook. The page is www.facebook.com/atimetopray.

Amy and Chip today.

Could you give us an update on how the family is doing now?
Our entire family is blessed. Jessica, Danny and the kids are doing great. I am now finally married to the love of my life. My wife Amy is an amazing woman. We have six kids between us, a regular Brady Bunch. I sell airplanes for a living at www.ridgeaire.com and as I mentioned before have been kicking around the idea of writing a book about the inspiring story of Jessica’s rescue.

My main purpose is to encourage people to pray and get involved. Jessica was rescued because 400 people showed up and worked with all of their ability. Her rescue was successful because the whole nation prayed together for her. Imagine what we could accomplish today if we all prayed, and became involved. Thanks for the opportunity to share.

Kate and Amy should be stuck in a kitchen together for a couple of weeks so they would get to know what it's like to be around themselves.

The narcissist can turn on a dime from being pleasantly grandiose to dark and meancing. A child growing up in this family constellation is continually in a state of psychological and physical stress.

Apparently the split in personalities is common. Sugary sweet one moment such that everyone who encounters you says you're wonderful, kind and generous--- nasty the next such that everyone who encounters you says you're a nightmare. It might explain why some reviews are wonderful, hit her on a good day.

It's not normal to have a mix of five star and one star reviews, I don't think.

I find Amy loathable, but think it must be hell to live life with such venom, hate and paranoia. To never know joy is truly hell on earth.

I have no sympathy for her. She's a spoiled brat who found a sugar daddy to finance her million dollar restaurant. If it fails she'll find something else to do to screw up as long as someone else is paying for it.

After watching that episode I know I would not eat Amy's food. She is the kind of person who will spit her venom into your sauce.

Apparently she still had a lot of legal trouble when she met Samy, including possible jail time. It makes me suspicious what his intentions were. It almost seems like he has a hero saving the damsel in distress complex. He was going to pull her out of her troubles and reform her life. I think it's an automatic red flag to get involved with a criminal.

I'll say this, I give her credit for working and having a job. But the two of them are pretty dysfunctional.

Kate and Amy together, now that's a reality show that I'd watch!

I don't think she's trying to draw people to her site because she needs a certain number of hits to be a spokesperson. Any company worth it's salt would check out the site and see that her counter is waaaaaay off. We is desperate to sell books and obviously her twitterbots are not buying the book. The books are being sold on Amazon and B&N and I doubt that she's sold 500 copies between the two.

@Kateplusmy8 can't find place to post ? To u.

I saw a couple tweets like this which I expected would happen. Kate has always sent people to her website to email her rather than put her email right in her tweet. I knew then some people would not understand to look for the "contact" link at top.

She is so blog/website dumb so I know she gets no help with it. She doesn't have links set up to make it easier for her readers to find things. I noticed that on her main page by the cookbook picture it says to "see blog below" for ordering. If you look below there is only her two newest blogs-no other direction on how to get to that ordering page. I wonder how many people gave up trying to find the cookbook blog link.

Besides her kookbook, she could be looking to get some 'jobs' promoting products on her site so she has to show that she gets enough hits there to entice a company to let her. I read once that some affiliate offers want high enough traffic before they will allow the website to put their link on it.

Kate said once that there was a lot of work left to do on the kookbook. It will be funny if she is unable to come up with enough original recipes to complete it, but she will blame it on lack of sales if it is cancelled.

rainbowsandunicorns said...

Now, if she's such a wonderful pastry chef, why isn't she posting photos of her own creations? These people are total frauds.

In her all-caps comments on Facebook, she said that the cakes were expensive because of re-packaging and shipping costs, saying that there was nothing wrong with reselling because Walmart does it (electronics, toys), so when called out on it, admitted that she doesn't bake her own cakes.

Kate and her website. If she's so concerned with directing traffic there, why doesn't she update it? News and Events, 8 cents worth, fashion and beauty are from 2011, and Inspiration is "Coming Soon." You'd think with all of her retweeted platitudes, she could find some message of inspiration!

Admin, Sammy told Ramsey he was a gangster and I wouldn't doubt that may be how he and Amy met, as the crime she was convicted of was discovered as part of an organized crime investigation (it's in one of the articles I posted, I think).

I wouldn't put it past them to have posted their own "good" reviews on Yelp, etc. They wouldn't be the first business owners to do so.

I'm a little surprised that their business has managed to stay open as long as it has, given how they treat their customers. Something just doesn't add up. I wonder if they aren't still involved in some sort of money laundering thing.

Well, they've had their 15 minutes. Hopefully they won't get a reality show out of this.

As far as Kate, she has something up her sleeve. All of the sudden every 4th tweet is directing people to her site. I honestly think she is toast, but still trying to keep herself relevant. I mean, how ironic is it that the husband says: "You are all little punks. Nothing. you are all nothing. We are laughing at you. All of you, just fools. We have God on our side, you just have your sites."

Really, you have God on your side, when you talk and behave like that? Because your God does not at all resemble the Jesus Christ depicted in the Bible, who counseled "turn the other cheek" and "the meek shall inherit the Earth."

I think Kate's fans, like Amy's husband, are afraid to tell Kate the truth - that her cookbook sucks. Why do narcissists put such fear into people's hearts? Who the hell do they think they are? They can yell and scream, call you names and criticize you all they want but if someone does it to them, they're automatically a bully. What a world. What a world.

When I was a kid visiting my grandmother, she and my mother would speak in PA Dutch when they wanted to discuss something (usually gossip) that I wasn't supposed to know. Eventually, though, I learned to figure it out and although I really couldn't speak it that well, I could understand it. It's kind of a corrupt form of German, but not really. When I went to college, I got my degree in German and it seemed really easy for me because much of it is similar to PA Dutch.

I hope to hear this restaurant closed. Of course, it's the hater's fault. Kate doesn't have a career because of haters.

Meanwhile, back in HOLLYWOOD, the most HATED celebrity is in the Number 1 Box Office movie. Things that make you go hmmmmmm?

If haters could stop a career Ms. Paltrow would not be working.

No, I was remembering Bullyville mentioning the FBi had been involved but unsuccessful, Ally. They said they were filling a "void" where te FBI had been unsuccessful. Hahahhahah. If anyone else mentioned the FBI that's funny too but I didn't specifically see it. It reminded me so much of this situation trying to make it seem like an entity as important as the FBI cares one but about your ridiculous situation.

Underwalt said he had an interview with the FBI about twitter harassment.

I can't speak for what that was about but when it comes to Amy I think they may be confusing "I called the FBI hotline to complain and they listened politely then put me in their crazy file" with "the FBI is investigating."

I told the pharm assistant at the CVS drive thru that Winston was up and begging (big bulldog head hanging out the window, trying to "shake" paws with her) because he thought every place (like the bank) gave out Milk Bones in exchange for shake and kisses. She had a box the next time we went through and that made for one happy bully.

As far as money, the kids made it and should be able to use it within reason in my opinion. Say gymnastics, dance, karate..whatever. Kate states she doesn't have money for those things yet she splurges on herself. Let the kids have their money Khate. They've shared enough of it with you.

Kelly wise words. I admire you for working in oncology. I couldn't. To add just one thing, I also think that people who have never done anything really to warrant such suspicion deserve at least the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise. Sort of the old innocent until proven guilty type thing. Of course once you've been proven guilty all bets are off, but before, I don't see the need to be so skeptical. This Amy thing really is a perfect example. They have a three year history of being really vile to customers. This did not happen overnight, and their history has a direct bearing on the reaction from the public. Other people who go on Kitchen Nightmares don't get harassed like this. A lot of people were actually supported by the public. I remember some sweet old twins from Eagle Rock who were trying so hard to keep their pizza shop going for their family, and the public really got behind them and supported them in getting the business back on track with Gordon's help. People are generally willing to help you and support you if you are open to it.

I also agree that the kids should be able to use the money they have earned now for things that benefit THEM like activities and camps and a comfortable lifestyle. I do not think it makes a whole lot of sense to save 100% of the earnings never to touch a penny. Save the bulk of it, 75, 80 percent of course, and use the rest to give them at least as comfortable a lifestyle as you live.

It sounds like Kate has either hired a media adviser, or her book publisher has supplied her with one, and she is being told to start promoting herself. All the "big" bloggers spend hours in cross promotion between their blog, twitter, facebook, other blogs, contests, etsy shops, and sponsors, etc. This is totally new and not something she has put any effort into before. Someone is telling her to do it for whatever reason. Either she has something else on the front burner or her book sales are a flop.

There are very few things I can say I would NEVER do ... but Pediatric Oncology is one of those. I admire and pray for those who can. I just couldn't. Oncology in general takes such a toll. Couldn't do that with kids. Takes a VERY SPECIAL kind of nurse/caregiver. God bless them all!

I don't know. A deep insecurity? I did not see this with the narcissist in my life. There was no constant, pervasive and unhealthy need for affirmation from the children. ------------------------

We can armchair this, but I think what it comes down to is that she's trying to prove to both herself and her critics that she didn't exploit these kids and that they have a normal childhood. She needs to do this so she can live with herself. She needs to convince herself, because deep down inside she may feel guilty for having used these kids. She wants to reassure herself that in their eyes she's been (and still is) an awesome mom who does everything right and they have not been robbed of their childhood. I mean, would the kids keep telling her how much they love her if she had done them wrong?

But her obsession over this, and her putting it out there on twitter and on her blog really isn't normal. It's like she just can't stop doing it. She really does need help, and I hope that there is someone in her life who can convince her to get it.

Congrats to your daughter, Wowser, kind hearted and loving Nurses are always needed. While my daughter was fighting her cancer, she met all kinds of Nurses, from New Zealand, Australia, the U.S, all over the globe they came from. They were so wonderful with her, one would bring her colored hair pieces to add to her wig, all kinds of silly trinkets, and near the end, even came to sit with me on their days off.
My daughter and I did have lots of trouble we would get into, like the day she was in the air-jet tub, and we had a water fight, got water all over the floor, you could hear our laughter down the hall, the floor had drains, was easy for me to clean it all up. When you spend months at the hospital, great Nurses are very appreciated and loved. I admire all of them who work on oncology, it is not an easy floor to work. When we had her service, many of the Nurses and Doctors came to say goodbye to her, and support our family. But after meeting so many Nurses, there is NO WAY I would want a Nurse like kate, especially on oncology. I just can't imagine her there. Or anywhere in a Nursing capacity. &&&

No. But if it's something beyond what the family can reasonably afford on the best job they can possibly get, I see nothing wrong with using a small portion of their money to help make them comfortable and give them some opportunities like camp and lessons IF there is no way the family can reasonably afford it otherwise, and IF the parents are not partaking in the money for their own enjoyment. It makes no sense to me to make a child who is a millionaire live in squaller. I am mostly referring to Chip, who did work and did the best he could but was living in poverty when Jessica was a baby. And in that case, Jessica didn't "work" for the money, she simply went through something horrific that she doesn't even remember, and strangers felt compelled to try to make their desperate situation more comfortable. I don't think these strangers intended for Jessica to live in poverty until she was 25. It was intended to make her life a little easier BOTH now, and in the future as well. In fact apparently checks were even designated for them to have a little comfort and relaxation now, such as checks that were designated for dinner out. It's apples and oranges. People were touched by their story and wanted the family to have a comfortable life now and 25 years from now, not ONLY 25 years from now.

Kate needs to go to work and get a real job and pay for them, obviously. But that said, if Kate goes and gets a real job, foregoes her own luxuries, and she has a child who really really wants to go to an expensive space camp, it seems to me that child should be able to use the money he worked so hard for to go, as long as the rest of his money is adequately protected. I.e. a little spending money/allowance they can use for things like that.

Even the Coogan fund doesn't envision that every last little cent will be saved until adulthood while you starve. You're absolutely allowed to touch some of your money now, and you should be able to, within REASON.

Look at it like a young child who is a paperboy. I use this as an example because in most states very young children are allowed to do this job. Most parents are fine with a little spending money in your pocket as long as you are saving too. I think it'd be pretty mean to make them save every last cent until they're 25 and never see any rewards for their work now.

Young kids often do extra chores to earn money to help pay their way to scout camp or church camp. Some parents think it helps them appreciate it more. Whether I agree with that or not is immaterial. But even so, the Gosselin kids have already done the labor. It would be nice if they got to choose how a small portion of it gets used every year.

Honestly, what does she do all day while the kids are at school, other than exploit them, an try to gerner attention, as an alleged Super Mom. Does she EVER think for one second that he kids are now entitled to a private life?

Don't care what she does from this point forward, but the kids, now 9 years old, have certainly earned their right to privacy.

Her chronic twitter to view her site is annoying at best, since most of it has to do with exploiting her kids. When will this woman ever stand on her own two feet, and promote herself soley for whatever she is trying to promote? Cookbook? Seriously, as a mother, she should recognize the damage she is doing to her kids, and stop her insanity. I wonder how much she would like her under 18 behavior to be posted by her parents for all to see.

I haven't read through all the comments after posting last night, but wanted to say a quick thank you to all who commented on my shifts on oncology. Mother's Day was both awful and inspiring. I'm what is known as a "floater" so I get to move around departments quite a bit. I could not do oncology for an extended period of time. It doesn't matter if I don my big girl scrubs and repeat multiple attempts of sucking it up - it just drains me. To the nurses who've done pediatric oncology, God bless you. Seriously. You guys are rock stars who get to work with heroes. I managed two shifts in pediatric oncology and was a blubbering, sniveling mess both times from the second I left the floor.

I've thought more about how Kate states she can't afford to let her kids do the extracurricular things they'd like (I seem to remember gymnastics in particular but I'm sure there are more). Not only is that a bald faced lie, it's just another form of child abuse in my opinion. I know a lot of parents who had to forego vacations etc. so their kids could participate in football, basketball etc.. It's just another form of her alienation agenda. The kids aren't going back on TV Kate, so there's no need to keep them from mixing it up with the riff raff of rural PA ;) It's also mentally good to let the kids release some of that childhood energy in a positive way. Boy is all of this gonna come back and bite her - hard - on her flat bottom. I just cannot find anything good to say about her parenting, and that makes me both sad and sick. It's also a shame she's being allowed to do this, in front of the world, with her six fans egging her on.

It's sad that they have to work and it sad that they can't enjoy their earnings.

Rather its sports or a nice vacation or time with family.

Kate doesn't care and she show it by using the kids to pamper herself & Steve occasionally.

Here's what she is not understanding. It's fans themselves who trash Jon directly to Kate, and Kate has retweeted the bashing and even agreed with it sometimes.

Jon NEVER did that. If Jon's fans were saying nasty things to Kate and he were retweeting it, agreeing with it, and remaining friends with them, then I agree, he should put a stop to it. But as far as I remember he would just ignore any negativity about either him or Kate. He was tweeting about butt cream and benign things like that and removed himself from the drama until finally he was apparently tired of reading it and left.

If Kate was just ignoring it that would be fine as a solution, or if she got off twitter that works too, but that's not what Kate has done. She retweets it, agrees with it, and remains friends with those who bash him. Jon NEVER did that.

You either ignore it all or leave, or you respond to it all and ask people to stop. But you don't get to cherry pick what nasty tweets you're going to retweet and agree with. That's disgusting and they know it.

&&&&&&

Not to defend her, but I've said before that it's the geography of the whole thing. Their friends are classmates, most of whom live much closer to the school. Working out rides with other parents really doesn't work in these situations. What parent wants to drive an hour to take the Gosselin kids home, especially on a school night? That's two hours round trip. Many of these kids are spread out over an area, even other counties. It's not like they all live within the same school district where car pooling is an option.

Of course, there would be activities in her own area, but would she want them to be involved with "strangers," not knowing the parents or the kids? Kate? Making friends with strangers?

Keep in mind, too, that when these kids get home from school it's nearly dinner time, then homework, and off to bed. I would think that many of the activities in her own area happen right after school. These children aren't home by that time. I would imagine that they are tired after school, and an hour-long ride on the bus. Even in her own area, with eight children, if one wanted to go to gymnastics, one in Scouts, one in drama club, trying to deliver and pick up these kids would be a logistic nightmare. She could do it, but it would really require skillful planning and execution, and lots of help.

It's not known that only seven of the eight are involved in activities. It's possible that the other kids are...it's just not made public. She only mentions Cara's sports, but there is drama and music (Mady), as well as other activities available at school and after school for all of them. There are late buses home, so she wouldn't have to go to school to pick them up.

That said, I just wonder why she refuses to send these kids to summer camp for a week or so, or even a month. There are wonderful camps in the Poconos, or head south to Virginia or north to New York. The twins love horses...there is a fantastic horse camp for girls in Virginia. There's even a nice day camp in her own area. This would be the best thing for these kids -- away from her, socializing with other kids. They'd have the time of their lives.

If the kids had written, "We Love Daddy" on the driveway, would she have tweeted that?" :-)

Because she has nothing, she is all facade. The emptiness inside is probably what drives her frantic behavior. If she isn't getting constant reassurance, somebody's gonna pay.

I have a teenager. The last time he obliquely told me how he felt was awhile ago - when he went on a school trip and my souvenier was a little statute that reads World's Best Mom. While I would love to hear him say "Love you mom!" or other praise from him - it's not gonna happen, at least not during these teen years. LOL. Yupe Kate wants her children isolated from people including their own family.

She didn't have to buy that manison far far away she made.

The choice and the kids have to live with that consequence.

She could have gotten a mid-sized home in a gated community with families so.

The kids could have friends in the neighborhood.

She has issues with taking the kids to extracurricular activities but she sure can go to her with no problem.

Example the derby Las vegas and so on.

Kate's lazy when it comes to the kids but not when it comes to her.

I have managed to raise a very nice kid, without need to spank or otherwise use physical punishment.

And believe me, there were some really tough patches in there where I thought I might pull my hair out.

Raise your child(ren) with love and respect, and you cannot go wrong. Re-direction, consistent clear cut boundaries, be firm but gentle - and you will raise up wonderful children. Not a knee jerk response of "I will spank you at the drop of a hat."

But yes, it is certainly a view into the mindset of a dedicated Kate fan - yuck.

I think it could be one or more reasons: 1. She's too cheap to spend money on extra curricular activities for the children. 2. Allowing them to participate in activities where other adults are in charge lessens her control. The children might see how other parents behave, resolve conflict, treat others decently, etc., and get wise to her. or 3. It's something they would enjoy, so she gets perverse pleasure from denying them that enjoyment.

Now of course, the children go to school every day - they are out of her control, deal with teachers and fellow students, and probably see the parents of other children. I think they already know their mom is quite different from any other adult they've ever met.

Yes, I agree. But since she has chosen this particular private school, I can also understand why the children would not regularly participate in after school activities. It's too bad though.

My child attends a school in a different district than the one we live in. However, it's still close (20 minute drive), so he can and does do after school sports, etc. Especially now that he is older, these activities become increasingly important to kids. (It's also important in the overview of getting into a good college. Colleges want to see not only good academic scores, but a variety of extra curricular activities, like public service, participating in sports, or the band, the journalism club, etc.)

I agree. When you're looking at a location for a new home, that should be your priority. I think, though, that this is typical Kate -- she didn't think ahead to when these kids would want to be involved in activities with their friends. Had they stayed in E-town, built an addition on their house, things would have been so much easier in regards to getting these kids to various activities within the area. But she figured they would be filming until the kids graduated, and in order to do that, they needed a more secluded and private area, away from neighbors. Why she just didn't look in the area where she lived for a larger home with land is beyond me. There were (and are) properties available like this. There are kids in the Reading area who go to the same school, and I guess she thought that since there is bus service and other families do it, then she could, too.

When she moved to the new house, the twins were already in school and had adjusted very well there. Perhaps she just didn't want to take them out of school and put them in another one. It makes sense to have all of the kids in the same school...same days off, same vacation time, etc.

I think that the kids being away from her, being with other kids and especially having the time of their lives is the reason that KK will never allow them to go to a day camp. In her selfish, narcissistic mind, SHE must be the only one that provides anything good for those children.

Of course, the problem with that, is that what KK thinks is good means material things, and she will NEVER believe that having hot dogs and roasting marshmallows with their father, or being away from her at day camp is something her children would enjoy!

OR is KK actually aware that the children would love those things, and since they don't include her, she will never willingly allow it?

Kate wouldn't have any control if the kids were at camp (or even activities like scouts). The kids would be around adults and children outside of their school who would be very curious. She is lucky ones from their school have been respectful of the kids and kept quiet.

She would have a hard time getting absolutely everyone to do a CA. There would be camp counselors, medical people, office help, volunteers, visiting parents, cooks, kitchen help etc.

She couldn't stop random photos of the kids and possibly being sold to tabloids. She couldn't stop the kids from talking about their life. New people/kids would be curious for sure! The kids could explain something wrong and make it sound worse than it is (or tell something she doesn't want out). She would have no control over seating charts or what they eat. The kids might even eat their food in the WRONG order!

There probably are some very good exclusive camps where celeb kids could be secure but I bet they would cost alot more than what she would ever spend on those kids. She has to save that money to spend on herself.

This just proves again, Kate can't keep track of all her lies. She's said in the past that Mady and Cara make all the lunches, then on CWS it was the young girls, who switched with the boys for a day.

If Kate weren't such a biatch, she would have several mothers or dads as friendly acquaintances that she's met over time at the kids' games.

Lots of people have more than two kids and often look at ways to car pool kids to activities. How about the kids' grandparents, my parents often game to basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, games and/or practices. Not to mention Jon is most likely present at ever came he can be at.

Kate the marter act doesn't work. You don't work outside of the house 9+ hours a days, and still need to find time to do laundry, housework and grocery shopping. You have no idea about being a busy mother.

And why can't Mady and Cara RSVP to their own invitations? Why put 'sleepover til tomorrow' on a to do list??? I agree with Dreams, the list is bogus.

Because parents like when other parents respond...just to make sure they have their permission to attend and that they know about it.

Chef, the kids' grandparents, even if they were on speaking terms, live nowhere near to the Gosselins.

Why not visit the grandparents on weekends when the kids are free of activities?

Why because her parents don't agree of how she raised/raises them.

She said so herself.

A Day In Kate's World (According to Kate/Milo)
Kate arises at midnight to start preparing for a perfect day. She slugs down multiple cups of coffee, then gets to work in the kitchen, preparing a multi-course breakfast. Oatmeal, eggs, fruit, yogurt, granola, pancakes, French toast, bacon, and sausage. After hours of cooking, she skips merrily to the stairs to call her children downstairs to behold the culinary masterpiece she has created.
The kids dance merrily into the kitchen, pausing to shriek with delight at the glory that is their breakfast. The laugh gleefully as they eat until they are ready to burst, stopping only to give their mother hugs and kisses and thank her profusely for all that she does for them.
The family travels together to the bus stop. The topic of conversation is their love for each other and especially their mother. The kids take turns listing all the things they love about their mommy. A slight argument erupts about who loves Mommy the most, but it's quickly solved when they decide that they ALL love Mommy the most. At the bus stop, they gather for hugs and kisses, then skip off, hand-in-hand, to board the bus.
At school, the exceptional Gosselin kids answer every question before it's even asked. They gather again for lunch, ignoring the jealous glares of their classmates at the 5-star cuisine in their lunch boxes. During study hall they pass the time by writing "I love Mommy" in bubble letters on their notebooks, surrounded by hearts.
Kate, in the meantime, is slaving away at home, scrubbing and cleaning and planning out the children's social calendars. A she cleans, she breaks into songs of pure joy. Birds fly in the open windows to sing along with her. Squirrels, rabbits, and deer emerge from the woods to dance on the lawn.
She then dumps 6 cans of beans and two pounds of cheese into the crock pot, adding a dash of paprika to turn her creation into a true culinary delight. Then she sets off to pick up the kids. (cont)

Why would you think that? Yes, Kate makes up quite a few things, but there is a school program, there is lacrosse, there is a picnic, and the twins very easily could be going to a swim party. Why would it be bogus that the kids would attend these things?

Contimued:
At the bus stop, the kids shriek with delight as they behold the sight of their mother. They run to her, gathering for a group hug and wiping the tears of joy from their eyes. On the way home, they all sing songs from their mother's favorite musical. At home, hey pause for another group hug before running for their sidewalk chalk to decorate their driveway with messages of love for Mommy.
Finished with their artwork, they file inside, pausing to clean their hands with Purel from the pump bottle mounted on the wall by the front door. They complete their homework and chores without complaint, and gather n the kitchen for the bean-and-cheese delight that is their dinner. The topic of conversation is what Mommy did all day while they were away. The kids hod a secret ballot, rating their sumptuous dinner a perfect 10.
After clean-up, the kids retreat to the basement to make cards for Mommy. May pulls out their toy easel, and on the paper mounted on the easel writes a list of all the things they love about Mommy. The kids have to shout to be heard above the others as they fight to have their contributions added to the list. They then traipse upstairs to present their cards and their list to Mommy, who is already into her 6th glass of "Mommy juice". After showers, the kids smother Mommy with hugs and kisses, then say their prayers, thanking God for the wonder that is their Mommy. The littles chat amongst themselves, comparing the things they love the most about Mommy until they drift off into blissful sleep. The twins stay up to hang out with Kate, pausing every few minutes to tell her how much they adore her, and she's like a best friend who lives in their own house. Kate spends a few minutes tweeting with her adoring fans before nodding off for two hours of sleep before getting up to start it all over again.

If I can add

Then Mommy 8 picks the kids up from school bus in the BBB and they sing along with each other.

They arrive home to the smell of freshly bake bread and a yummy homemade dinner.

During dinner and convo the 8 tell mommy how yummy dinner is and rate it a 10+.

Then the 8 cleanup the kitchen then homework and showers while mommy say's goodnight to her fans.

Being the good mom she is Kate kisses and tucks all her 8 in bed and makes sure Shokia is sleeping.

Parent sure do coddle their little darlings these days. A 12 year old almost 13 can and should RSVP to their own invitations. That's how they learn the social graces. If the parents don't know each other or have any concerns they can touch base on their own time.

++++++++++++++

Chef, you asked why the grandparents can't take them places, to sports events, school activities and I pointed out that they live nowhere near her. I would think that even if they were on speaking terms, the logistics of grandparents driving them around just wouldn't make sense because of the location. It's not something they could do on a regular basis.

Of course, they should be involved in the kids' lives and the kids should visit them on weekends, but that's not happening because they are alienated from them.

lukebandit said...

If kate retweets the tweets that are bashing Jon, she is condoning the behavior and is agreeing with the tweet.

That should be enough for parental aliention by proxy or be enough to go before a judge.

She has been doing it ever since she got on twitter.

I had to go today for an extra treatment and was almost back when over the radio a child fell out of a car that was unrestrained, and either a car or another car ran over the child.

The paramedic that was with me freaked out about the stats on the child completely unresponsive and nose bleeding and they were just going to transport to the local hospital.

She started hollering, Fly that BABY OUT! Are they CRAZY?? I said they are not going to fly the baby to Erlanger in TN, a Trama center hospital. She said that they could have the child at E in 12 minutes fly time. Me, the driver, paramedic were so upset.

Please pray for this child, I don't know if the child is a boy or a girl or how old. It has really upset me this afternoon. Thank you so much.

Why in the world doesn't she just pack up her family (if she has one), and move to Wernersville where she could live with Kate, be her social secretary, do the cooking, the cleaning, run the kids around, manage her career, and tuck Kate into bed? It would be the dream of her lifetime.

My grandparents had 11 grandkids and drove, and flew, all over creation to be part of their lives. They lived two hours from me but were at most of my sports games, plays and events. They didn't work and didn't have young kids anymore and their only obligations were church and the senior citizens group which they could skip if a grandkid had something. It's much less of a burden when you eliminate the rat race obligations younger people are a part of. This was pretty normal, all their friends were doing the same. They even got a minivan to cram kids in, and their house was so kid friendly with tons of games, books and sports equipment, bikes, a pool, a swing set. They are everything grandparents should be.

The end result of this? Eleven adults who have nothing but happy and wonderful memories of grandma and gramps.

I'd say those were some grandparents if you had sports a few times a week, as well as events on a daily basis and they drove two hours each time to see you. Grandparents are so important in a kid's life, but not everyone is that lucky. Not all grandparents are mobile enough to do so, particularly kids with elderly grandparents.

My grandparents weren't able to do that because of their age and health. I knew, though, that they were thinking about me because our love for one another was so strong. They'd call me several times a week to find out how I was doing, the stats on my sports teams, and so forth. Just knowing that they cared was more than enough. Sleepovers at their house was something I'll never forget. I miss them every day. They were the best grandparents anyone can ever imagine, even though they weren't there for every activity in which I was involved.

What Kate fails to mention is that Jon is just as much, if not MORE, involved in the kids's lives. And, I don't hear him ever complaining or patting himself on the back. Quite the opposite, actually.

--------------

I didn't write it, but I will say "AMEN." She won't give him credit for anything, and that really ticks me off. It's always all about her and her fans are buying it.

Games were about once a week when I played sports. Other activities were spread out. I saw them about once a week and stayed with them for several weeks in the summer.

We have no indication these grandparents aren't on the younger side and healthy. They certainly were healthy and spry enough to be involved and fighting some big permit lawsuit, construction, expansion and the like, as well as watching the twins for weeks on end when the tups were born. That speaks to able bodied senior citizens not shut ins. The problem here is Kate, not the grandparents.

Admin, a quick note, thank you for such a good interview on Baby Jessica with her dad. I remember sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for her to come up from the well. When Chip said someone committed suicide, I immediately thought of the guy with the red ball cap on that brought Jessica out.

IIRC, I was watching NBC News with Tom Brokaw and his voice. Amazingly, when the diamond drill bits for digging the separate shaft would wear out, someone would bring another one just in time.

What is kate going to do when she has to tell 8, yes, 8 kids there is hardly no money to go to college on. Also, Admin, if some of the kids get a scholarship for the first year for say 10K, would kate take that 10K out of their money because they got the 10K?

She should not be able to do that. They earned the original 10K and earned the new 10K!

They are saying now that Will Smiths son, Jaden? is 15 and wants to be emancipated and move out on his own. Good Luck with that Will and Jada!

&&&&&&&&&&&

It may also be difficult for younger grandparents who are still employed, especially if they have many grandchildren, to just take off work during the day to attend school programs, concerts, sporting events, etc. Not everyone is able to do that, depending on their work schedule. If Kate doesn't allow her parents to be actively involved in the lives of her children, there will come a day when she may regret it. Those kids should know their grandparents, regardless of any animosity on Kate's part.

You're right, I forgot her famous bread! And Shoka, too. Well, add the hours spent measuring out ingredients and turning on the bread maker to her already hectic day of hard labor, prepping for the kids' arrival home. Shoka? Hmmm, I hate to say this, but he's probably eating all the rabbits and squirrels who came to frolic on the lawn, and then puking them up on the basement rug. Kate can put on her martyr hat while she cleans it up.
