Producers decide to air slain cast member's reality show just days after her death, and it's not the first time.
What if you die before your reality show airs? Is it right for networks to still air it or should they pull it out of respect? Two years ago, Bravo also aired episodes post-mortem featuring Russell Armstrong, who had committed suicide. His family was horrified, especially when Bravo at first repeatedly promised to re-edit the show. Russell's death was linked by some family members to the pressure of the show, at one point his mother saying that he once told her, "Mom, they're just going to crucify me this season. I don't know what to do. I'll never survive it." Now, it's happening again, after Reeva Steenkamp was shot and killed. Her boyfriend, the famous "Blade Runner," was charged with the crime. Steenkamp had wrapped a reality show shortly before her death, which aired this past weekend. South African producers have come under fire from viewers who say it's disrespectful to air the show and they are just profiting off her death. However producers claim they consulted with her family about the decision. They said: “We felt that it was important for people to know that there was more to the narrative of Reeva than an exceptionally beautiful girl in a bikini, that she was strong and vibrant and funny and lovely and that this is a tragedy on an unspeakable level.”

I may be hypersensitive, I am reading a photography book by Jim Zuckerman, who is not only an amazing photographer, but a great teacher, and he is spending half the book talking about composition and showing side by side comparisons about how even the slightest little thing off in the background can spoil a photo. When you see the side by side you really start to take notice of it. Google him for a good time hehe, he is really fantastic.
Half a teaspoon of cheese ***** Wow, I didn't even notice that when I looked yesterday. Yes, Kate says 1/2-1 tsp. of feta, which is absurd. That's like one nugget of feta. If people don't know better and have no cooking experience, they'd make this "recipe" according to Kate's recipe and be like, WHAT? That is just pathetic. Feta is a relatively lower fat cheese and you can splurge a bit. I'm sure Kate uses the fat free feta version as well. If you don't want red meat fine but you do need to replace the protein you would get from the meat. Personally I would choose chicken but you can do it with beans, cheese or tofu or something. I cook a bunch of chicken and often some turkey breasts as well once a month or so, shred and put the meat in big gallon size ziploc bags, and toss in the freezer. I do the same with chickpeas, pinto beans and black beans. There is always a stash in the freezer. Then whenever there is a wrap or salad lunch that calls for a protein boost I just reach into whatever bag or container I feel like today and sprinkle on several ounces. It dethaws by lunchtime. It's a great way that works for me to get that protein you need in a quick, healthy way.
What's scary about someone like her telling people how to eat is that she seems to have no understanding of nutrition.
All the stuff about Pastorius not realizing his girlfriend wasn't in bed doesn't add up. I'm also very suspicious that he called someone else, and had that person call for medical help instead of Pastorious calling for medical help first. However, I don't have a bit of problem believing him trying to do CPR, or carrying her downstairs for help, because I also believe that he killed her during an argument, and as soon as he realized that he had shot her, he was horrified at what he had done. Of course, by then, it was way too late.
Also if you buy the real goat cheese, in the specialty cheeses section (not the one with the Greek ruins picture on it) it will stretch further because it's so flavorful and strong. You need more than HALF A TEASPOON of course, but two heaping spoonfuls is plenty. That is my go-to cheese. Yes, it is absolutely two or three dollars more expensive than the regular feta, however, I don't go through it nearly as fast, so it all evens out.

Just look at her atrophied body. Kate probably thinks "I'm skinny!!", but she's lost muscle mass and I'd bet dollars to donuts that the reason that Kate no longer boasts about running is because she rarely does run now. Runners need fuel and I think running would just take it out of Kate because she's depleted her body of fat stores and protein, so her muscles have become her fuel. Running in that condition just sucks. It is no fun because you are literally pushing every stride. No one can stick to it in that condition.
Admin, feta also lasts a long time in the fridge. We buy a paver-sized block of it from Costco and it keeps in a zipped baggie for weeks and weeks. I eat it almost daily on my salads. Now I'm in the mood for Greek shrimp linguine! Alas, I already have the seafood for cod and scallop piccata for this Friday Lenten dinner ;-)
As for the chores for the kids, any mother knows no matter what the chore list is it has to be enforced. This means making the list, checking that the chore is done and done correctly. Then instructing the kid to do the chore again if its not correct.
This takes time and patience. Kids don't magically do the chores the first time they're told. They have to be told time and time again.
While Kate has time to make and enforce the chores, she doesn't have patience. Its what every mother has to go through in order to instill responsibility and pride in children. Kate is all about the idea, not the doing.
Yes, this too will go by the wayside. The bad part about the chore list disappearing sometime in the future is the children won't receive this important life lesson.
In defense of the kids too, they are in school a lot, on a bus a lot, seem to be involved in sports and activities, and are probably very busy. That is a lot of house to expect kids to take care of and still attend to everything else. My feeling on a house like that is that if you can afford that house, you need to be able to afford the hired help to take care of it. If that's not your cup of tea, then don't live in a house that big. I'm not saying kids shouldn't do chores, of course they should, but that is a LOT of house for kids to be expected to keep up with when they have many other things they should be doing like schoolwork. I know kids who live in a 6,000 square foot house. Of course they have always had a full time house keeper who works her butt off, you just have to have that or don't live there. But they still are required to clean their play room themselves, and clean up their rooms and make their beds each morning, and pack their own lunches. That's fair in reasonable in my opinion. I don't think they should be required to look after the whole house however, that wasn't THEIR choice to own such a ridiculous home. I live in a place that I am willing to clean, my choice. I've done the housekeeper thing however am not doing it right now--housekeeper or not I always want to live in a place where if money is tight or the housekeeper quits or whatever, I can still manage it.

Again, this is where real friends and close family would come in handy. Telling what you NEED to hear. Not telling you what you want to hear a la Jason the hair guy or Deanna the makeup gal.
Just a couple of thoughts re writing a cookbook. First, wouldn't your recipes have to be tested by someone before they are published, and I don't mean by 8 kids? Second, don't most cookbooks today include nutritional information regarding the recipes(i.e., # servings, calories per servings, etc.)
Does Kate think that just writing down recipes qualifies her to write a cookbook? There's more to a cookbook than just recipes and pictures.
Even in her wrap recipe-she lists "Taboulah salad", with no explanation of what it is-plus she spelled "Tabbouleh" wrong. I only found out what it was by googling it-you would think she would explain what it is, or where she gets it. She felt the need to explain where to get marinated roasted red pepper, but not Tabbouleh salad.
The only thing "Mediterranean" about that wrap was that she added feta cheese.
I firmly believe that most successful people have people in their lives who are honest with them. I'll always remember this interview recently with Prince William where he said I can't stand friends who tell me I'm the greatest and I can do no wrong. I want people in my life who will be truthful with me, who will see my flaws and be honest about them. This is why he loves his Kate so much, she is honest. This is why he is going to be very successful in life and one day make a very good monarch. He doesn't want to live a fantasy. He wants to examine and improve himself as he goes along.

I have a question. I don't have a Twitter account, and I really don't know the workings of it. When Kate says to block the haters, does that mean she blocks all of those who she considers nasty haters and therefore she can't see the tweets? How, then, does she know that she is being bullied by the non-fans on Twitter...unless, of course, the fans report to her. But why would they do this, knowing that she would be upset with the remarks? I read Twazzup...is this where she's getting her information on who is doing the bullying? How else would she know who she wants to "take down?" But if she's going to read all of the comments, including the haters, then why would she go to the trouble of blocking them?
Wow, I looked at that video. She has a ton of makeup on and doesn't even look like herself. Kendra is just natural. It is a mom thing; she truly doesn't get it or doesn't care. If I had known what she was really like I never would have watched a single episode of JK8.

She doesn't look real. She looks like a plastic clone of every wannabe aging actress out there. It's a shame. She was an attractive, natural looking woman. I remember looking at the photo of her and Jon in their black and white outfits...her face was so fresh, her hair was cut short in a highlighted pixie cut (not many women can wear their hair that way) and she looked great. I just wonder who got hold of her and told her that she needs to be an emaciated bleach blonde in order for television to notice her. That person should be skinned and hung up to dry.
I can't believe anyone could change so much in eight years, and not for the better. We built a house that was 7,800 square feet...considerably larger than Kate's with more bedrooms and bathrooms .It didn't look that big on the blueprints...and it just kept getting bigger and bigger! I had a gal come in once a week to do the bathrooms and kitchen. I took care of everything else because I figured that we wanted a house that large and I'd take care of it. At first, I actually enjoyed doing it, probably because I'm a bit OCD and I love to clean. Bathrooms, not so much! However, I found that it was a lot of house to care for, and I was becoming a slave to it. You live and learn. We downsized to a much more manageable house, and I no longer have a housekeeper and the kids are old enough that they can do their chores
Kate wanted that house. She made her bed and now she has to deal with it. No complaining. If it's too much house, you sell it and get one that works for you. There's no shame in saying, "Hey, I bit off more than I can chew. Let's find a house that doesn't require this much work." For Kate, though, it's all about image, and giving that place up would mean that she'd be mediocre. Anything less wouldn't fit her idea of a celebrity lifestyle.
I must say that I have some idea of what she's paying in taxes, utilities, pool expenses, landscaping and other maintenance work and it's not going to get any cheaper as time goes by. She'll be more than sweating when she sits down at the table to pay the bills. Houses don't take care of themselves. When you need professionals to do it, you end up paying through the nose.

A local food writer/cookbook author that I know has friends and family test recipes, but not every recipe in every good cookbook is independently tested. I was contacted by her people for permission to use the recipe (found on my food blog) and to give an interview, because they give a blurb or more about the person who gave each recipe. I do often think "oh, I hope anyone who makes it likes it!" and that it comes out perfectly, but I never had anyone else but me make it before. Kate NEEDS a food expert to work with her because the misspelling, lack of food knowledge (ingredient pedigree, for example) and illogical proportions are glaring. And that's just a stupid wrap sandwich!!

Oh my - this Z-List celebrity worship is wearing thin with me, with some fans who will do ANYTHING to try to get an acknowledgement from "their former reality star of choice," or in many cases ANY reality "star" who will answer. Often under 21 years old. Sad state of affairs. Something is missing in their own lives if a "tweet" from a D-Z List celebrity makes their day, month, year, etc... Very disturbing.
I worry about some of the "youngins" as their focus appears to be on people on a screen/computer/twitter, etc.. as opposed to real life. Too much technology. Sorry, fun is fun, but nothing can replace what is going on with your own "real" life and what real connections you make in life face to face. Technology has become a vacuous way for some in relating to people, without making any REAL connections in life. Sorry, but I find this very disturbing. Not talking about posters here, but rather younger people who try to fill their lives on internet, and learn very little hands on interaction. A balance of both might be a better way to go. Yes, it was a bit on the large size, but the advantage was that there were so many hiding places when I didn't want to be found! :) There was also an unfinished area (no counted in the square footage) that was to be an apartment for my mother. We never got that done. Square footage doesn't include attic, garage or basement, so that square footage was just the first and second floor.
I had never built a house before, and I thought it sounded like just an average size until I saw it going up. Dumb! By then it was too late! I really don't regret it. We had some wonderful times there and the kids loved it. But you don't need a big house to make it a happy home.

She ruined it. * * * * Pre-surgery (besides the tummy tuck), but post-teeth whitening, I thought Kate was actually quite attractive and had lovely skin. She was fresh-faced and if you didn't know why lie beneath the surface, she was quite a pretty 30-something woman. Those days are long gone, never to return. Her skin looks terrible due to over-tanning, she is skinny but not healthy-looking, her hair is wrecked, and I agree with the poster who said she's not eating in a nutritious fashion. That means her body has to glean nutrients from muscle.
However, this is typical Kate. She did not appreciate what she had - a natural attractiveness. She had to spend money to "improve" her appearance - surgeries, hair weaves, tanning, botox, etc., and all she managed to do was ruin the looks she had.
It's the story of her life: Loving husband who is very hands on with their 8 kids -- not good enough, he's gone.
Two healthy twin daughters - not good enough, so she goes purposely for a multiple pregnancy. Lucky again! Has 6 healthy babies, with minimal problems. Not satisfied, seems miffed that one of her children needs glasses. Not 100% "perfect."
Pushes for and gets a tv show about her family. Makes a lot of money, gets a ton of freebies. Not good enough. Always wants more. Is rarely grateful.
Gets the opportunity to host on The View more than once. Does a craptastic job every time. Despite being drooled after by the show's producer, finally they can't have her back even one more time because the audience hates her. Makes Barbara Walters look like a fool for pronouncing that Kate has "stah!" power.
Opportunity after opportunity has been given to Kate Krieder, and she has run each and every one into the ground because of her own hubris and mental instability.
I grew up in a big two-story house out in the country. There were 8 kids in our family, and we all had chores. But we were expected to "help" around the house, not "maintain" it.
As a young child, we had to make our beds in the morning (consisting of smoothing the comforter flat so it looked nice - usually the sheets were jumbled underneath!); help set or clear the table; take folded clothes up to our rooms and put them away, etc. Simple chores.
As we got older, we had more involved chores, such as cooking a meal once a week. Usually two siblings would be paired up to cook the meal and help each other. Other sibs would set the table, clear the table, and do the dishes.
We had to take care of our animals - feed the horse, the goat, the chickens, the cats and dogs, hamsters, rabbit, etc.
On week-ends, we had to do some chores outside, like haul and stack wood, or sweep the patio, pull weeds, harvest tomatoes, corn or zucchini from the garden.
One year we put in an above-ground pool. That summer, we all had to help dig out the area for the pool, then sift the dirt to eliminate even the smallest pebbles for the foundation. Oh we worked! But we weren't made to toil, if you know what I mean. We were always treated like the children we were.
I can't believe Kate is unable to afford a housekeeper once a week. If that's really true, then she has gone through those childrens' money at an alarming rate.

I'm starting to wonder whether Kate is going to get a media tour out of CWS after all. Nothing today, so that leaves just Mon and Tues. And you'd think ABC would like to promote it a few days ahead, so that people can make plans to watch. Could it be that Kate wasn't offered any talk show appearances? If any of you notice, where is Kates tan, freckles, horse face or oblong face, nobody looks like that, in a short period of time. This was done in November/December, Kate had pictures of herself, this picture say photo shopped.
I pull up these articles just to read the comments. My gosh, other than six deranged sheeple, a plethora of tweenie and teen fans, led by one totally insane Head Ewe, Kate certainly isn't held in high esteem, is she?

The sheeple enablers keep telling her she's gorgeous, smokin hot, so young looking, and so on. They are telling her what she wants to hear. There has to be someone out there who will tell her the truth...that she looks 15 years old than she is, her skin is ruined, her hair is a disaster, and she looks anorexic. If someone really cared, they wouldn't continue to feed her ego. They'd be honest with her.
However, the sheeple are blind. Either they really believe that she's a hot lookin mama, or they know that she's a mess but they don't want to fall from her grace. It's pathetic.
Those poor school administrators and staff people! They have enough to do to run a fine school and have a genuine heart for every student who graces their halls. This badgering from the public because of something KATE is doing is preposterous. I wish they'd give it a permanent rest.

She's on the talk show simply because they are required to promote their own network's programs. The Shark Tank people, or whatever that show is, are also being promoted, as would any other show.

I read Kendra's article. I liked what she said at the end - I think you will like the outcome. She didn't come right out and say the kids were upset, but she did say it took time to earn their trust (as it should). I wonder if she figured out that KT makes it 10x harder with all her rules that give her complete control and probably went way overboard to make it even harder for Kendra. I hope she ordered 5 hot pizzas delivered to the door with a *gasp* soda and cinnamon bread or chocolate bread and just let them relax and be kids on her last night. Yeah really. I think she left her obligations at CC in the dust to go play switch-a-roo and Scott wasn't having it. Hence "recent events." She is just like those five year olds in the experiment where they say now here is a cupcake. If you WAIT, I'll give you TWO cupcakes. Most of the kids eat it. But if you do the experiment with nine year olds, they'll hold out for the two cupcakes. Kate can't hold out.

Yeah she has. In a separate incident, she voluntarily checked herself into rehab and shortly after left. She also entered Promises for about 30 days but left there too. Those aren't 5150 holds, those are voluntary. Hence why I said in and out of rehab. This was all around when she lost her kids.

It's really expensive to alter video I thought. That's usually saved for big budget films. I really doubt some low budget throw away reality show is bothering to try to alter Kate. That was her, a terrible mess. The cinematographer can adjust things on his end but only so much. That's more about lighting and filters, not actually altering appearance.
In fact I heard that reality shows have to even so much as pixelate a few things their budgets get BLOWN. It's very expensive.

Why in the world did KK not invest in a home tanning bed? She should have done a column on CC about that, maybe about she could have grifted one. BTW I'm totally against tanning beds and have a friend in London currently being treated for MM, but since Kate frequents one so often, it seems it would have occurred to her to buy one. Yes, you can. One way is through Photoshop CS6. There are several demonstrations online that show exactly how it's done. It's an interesting technique. That said, I seriously doubt that the video of Kate was photoshopped. It's just a bad make-up job.

What else does Kate have to offer TV except the complaining, grouchy, demanding and overworked person she has painted herself to be? If she ever presented herself as a nice person the character that is Kate Gosselin would be altered. She is OK with a negative image because that's what gets her noticed and talked about. A nice, calm, easygoing Kate Gosselin? Too vanilla. Besides, THAT would require her to act. Being difficult just takes, well, being herself - a grumpy drill sergeant who just can't believe how wonderful she is.
Isn't her demeanor of the reasons she was chosen for this episode anyway? The producers were looking for someone to counterbalance her life and her style of being. When they thought of Kate first, they thought "oh boy. This ought to be interesting. Now we need someone who is a lot more pleasant."
So, the episode shows who she is, she capitalizes on it every chance she gets, and she merrily skips off to be herself some more. Cameras on, cameras off, it's all Kate in her natural mode of difficult.
Fido you're right, her character is the villain. Maybe she knows that and embraces it. And yet she keeps insisting over and over she really is NICE and if you meet her you will LOVE HER. What are they ever trying to prove? That they can curse with the best of them; that they can make up facts to suit their purpose. All they do to make Kate look more credible that she is being harassed and bullied. I don't understand that they can't see that. I think that some of them should be careful about making wild accusations against Kate and other sheeple...things that are exaggerated, embellished, and just aren't true. You never know when you're going to really tick off the wrong person.

Sorry, it just pisses me off.
I guess there's really nowhere to discuss that aspect of this whole thing.
I stand corrected regarding the rehab for Britney Spears. However, her issue was not substance abuse per se, but mental illness, which is why she now has a conservatorship. If she has bipolar disorder, which I believe she does, self medication is part and parcel of it. Saying she's been in and out of rehab, while it may be correct, is not the whole story and misrepresents her true issues. So I'm going to stand by my point even though my facts may not have been perfect. If you know what I mean.
That wasn't the point though. The point was she had serious problems, including drugs, that resulted in her losing her children. Someone was giving examples of other mothers losing their kids, and we were pointing out that was because they had very serious problems and that typically that doesn't happen.
Actually, the judge specifically cited her drug use when she took the kids. Mental health may have played a role but drugs is what the judge said was the reason for taking the kids according to the article.

I showed a few friends of mine that are computer geeks, and are into computer graphics, Kates pic, and they told me, yes video can be altered with the right software, using a computer. They do it all the time on YouTube, TV etc. It's nothing new they have been doing that for years. It's called: special effects. And for your immature, attacking brain info , I'm not a kid, and what makes you so perfect! I see why new people don't come back here.

I'm still trying to play catch-up, but wanted to comment on a few things. I haven't read any of the articles on KK, looked at any of the pix of KK, and don't intend to watch any of the publicity interviews or CWS, but I'm certainly looking forward to Admin's recap. That should be worth a few belly laughs. The person I'd most like to see KK "wife-swap" with would be Betty Hayes, not Michelle Duggar. The Duggar's lifestyle is just as unreal as KK's is. Betty is a real wife and mother. I'd love to see how KK would cope with 4 (count 'em 4) teenagers and a severely limited child. 10 kids who have not had the life regimented out of them. She couldn't handle 10 INDIVIDUAL children with their own wants, desires, talents, personalities and opinions. I'd also love to see how she'd react to the way a "tough cop" "keeps his kids in line", with plenty of hugs, snuggles and humor as well as discipline.
KK actually had the nerve to intimate that Kendra "didn't deserve" a husband like Hank? What a beyotch!! She had a husband that many women would kill for. One who clearly adored her, who was willing and able to care for the kids, who did all kinds of work projects around the house, who was willing to let her run the show, and she dumped him. I think it's a very interesting aspect to the whole Kate Twitter saga. You have the sheeple, the non-fans, and the haters. It's the psychological dynamics -- trying to figure out why each of the three units does what it does. The obsessed haters, while not realizing that by tweeting over-the-top vile and hateful remarks directly to Kate and to sheeple, are in reality making Kate appear a victim in all of this. They are actually defeating their "purpose" and are evoking sympathy for her. It's a mystery why they do this...their mission in all of it, and what they hope to accomplish, eludes me.
I can already tell this is going to make my blood boil. All she does is bark orders at those kids. She doesn't enjoy them for one second. She is going to give them high blood pressure before they ar 15 years old.
I can't believe I'd ever encourage a child to talk back but I cheered when Mady gave her lip back and an "are you f-ing serious" look. These kids are going to eat her alive during the teen years.

The above has a couple of clips. I cant seem to get them to run one at a time, so you have to concentrate on what each is saying...maybe it is my computer. But one of the clips shows Kate is her militant style role. She says she doesnt have a fulltime babysitter or cleaning lady! Well we now know THAT was a play on words, with her recent blog about recently losing her part time cleaning lady. mady says " ork is no fun when you have too much of it to do". Kate is all show dressed up in her fancy schmancy dresses...
Oh also funny how she said I don't have FULL-TIME help (i.e. they work 37 hours a week for no benefits so that's not full time), and that she is in charge of "overseeing" anything. Read, pointing at things for the staff to do. So transparent.
If she has part-time help shouldn't they be there when Kendra is there? It doesn't seem fair Kate gets to do it herself but Kendra has to do it without the part time help. It should simulate how it usually is. Maybe they will. The second these kids start to turn on Kate they are going to be done in the sheeple's eyes. They don't appreciate Kate, they're spoiled, she gave them everything and they can't appreciate it, they complain too much, they don't appreciate that work gave them a "wonderful" life, it must be Jon encouraging this behavior. They will sell these kids down the river just like that the second they smell a defector. Same as what Joan Crawford's fans did to Christina. So many of them refused to believe her.

And, how sad is it that that just makes you think wow thank God how great they could actually do something normal. Every kid should be able to have a basement picnic, it shouldn't be such a big freaking deal.
I noticed Kendra "fed" them tacos in the basement rec room. They made their own, putting in as much or as little of each ingredient as they wanted. Then, they sat down on a kindergarten type mat to eat. One kid walked RIGHT on top of another kid's paper plate, and then she knocked over her drink bottle. I'm beginning to believe Kate's form of serving from the kitchen has caused her children to have no idea about eating a casual meal. They seemed to be completely lost on how to eat without a table, in a circle.
Or, maybe they are just messy and that's why Kate makes them do that. Who knows which came first, the mess or the mess hall monitor.

Nah, that's just in the preview. When you see the episode, they're back to being the same size they were a year-and-a-half ago when they stopped filming.
This always cracks me up...the "kids have grown so much" tweets, "kids have gotten older." What do they expect? Some strange Twilight Zone warp where the kids are toddlers forever?
I like in the clip with the picnic where some of the taco filling spilled on the floor, and Kendra says "that's okay", whereas Kate is picking some food up off the floor at Kendra's.
I wonder how much will actually be shown with Kate and Hank Jr. They'll probably have her interacting more with Hank Sr.
Their total ineptness at "normal" social interactions like simply grabbing a spot on the floor and eating something fun will just make Kate justify why everything must be regulated like Escape from Alcatraz all the time. See, they can't handle it.
Listen, the reason they can't handle this stuff is because they were never allowed the freedom to learn it. This is the consequence. At nine years old they can't handle something so simple. This kind of controlled, regimented parenting was bound to have serious consequences and now we're seeing them.
Her left eye in the pictures appears to turn inward--at least to me. I know it's not an absolute fix in childhood, but makes me wonder why she hasn't addressed the issue as an adult.
I have long felt that some if not all of these kids will have serious work ethic problems when they are adults. Why they would even want to work at all I don't know. They might instead rebel and just want to screw around all the time because they worked so much as kids. They are going to feel like so much of their childhoods were spent on the clock and that they deserve to just relax and live off their trust funds, which apparently have been set up for them and that they WILL be able to access someday. Of course it's good they will get their money but it may have the effect of making them feel like well good screw it now I don't have to work I finally am getting my dues.
The only thing that can be done at this point is make sure they don't spend a single solitary second of their childhoods working again. That's the only hope they really have at not feeling like they should retire when they are 18 and everyone can suck it. If they already see work as such an exhausting chore God help them.
In regards to the "wonky" or "lazy" eye. I don't think that is something that should be used in order to criticize Kate.
I had a "lazy" eye when I was a child. One of my eyes turned in and I wore and eyepatch, and also had an operation. To this day, I still have a "lazy" eye, although not as bad as when I was 5. Sometimes it cannot be fixed perfectly.
Did she get that idea from all of Milo's crazy tweets about the show?

Milo thinks that Kate is going to set the world on fire with this one episode - that every network is going to be camping out in Wernersville, beating on Kate's door just waiting for her to sign a contract. CEOs all over the country will have her on speed dial, and this is just the beginning of a new career for her. It's the Second Coming. Praise Kate.
The way those clips play, this is going to be Sarah Palin camping trip take two, with Kate being a sour, unappreciative bitch, Hank as Sarah's dad (she bitched from the moment she got off the plane), and Kendra playing the role of Sarah Palin treating the kids like the kids that they are, doing her best to go with the flow, and selling Kate down the river.
That camping trip turned a TON of fans away. It was a mass exodus. I don't think this is going to go the way Milo thinks.
No matter how they show Kate, Milo will claim it's the editin'. She also say that Kendra is too young to know that with 8 kids you have to have strict rules in place to keep the house runnin' smoothly. And as far as what Mady said, she'll just say that Mady's just exaggeratin' for the cameras.
And my parents were also well respected in their fields and married for 57 years, and did it all without one foul word coming out of their mouths in or out of the house. I have my opinion on this, and it's a strong one. We just don't happen to agree on the importance of this one issue. So be it. Peace.
But– and I'm sorry, I just tend to be a bit of a Devil's advocate– isn't 'condemning', in a way, people who swear very prejudicial? My mother was a Kindergarten aide for 15 years and generated my elementary school's first after-school tutoring program– did she curse around her charges? Heck no! And had I swore in public, trust me, she'd have had my figurative hide.
I guess I just don't understand why people view swearing as being so "loaded", just as you don't understand why people can be casual about it. Curses are just words to me– I wouldn't swear during a job interview or around my (late) grandparents, but my boss, a 70+ lady, swears around me, I can swear around her...it's about the audience and context, I guess. Growing up around swearing made it less taboo, at least for me.
Honestly– and this is controversial– I could say the same thing about people who believe in the literal Bible. I wouldn't want my kids around strident Christians any more than they'd want their kids around my agnostic, cursing butt.

When I heard Mady say "All I've ever really known is work. Work is a bad thing...when you have too much.", I knew exactly how she felt! Both my sister and I still loathe housekeeping. Not too long ago, she asked me if I feel like I'm being punished when I vacuum and mop floors. I said that I got rid of the carpets so I wouldn't have to vacuum, but I sure do feel punished when I have to not only cook, but do the dishes. Neither of us have ever been 'Suzy Homemaker'. We both had very good work ethic outside the house, and I think that is because a job was away from the house.
Remona, exactly what we were saying earlier today. It's not the kids' choice to live in a McMansion and they shouldn't have to feel like all they do is work to maintain their mother's fantasy. If between EIGHT children they are still feeling overwhelmed, you need to either downsize or fork over the money for full time help, period. They also shouldn't feel they have to work their childhoods away so she can have the lifestyle she wants. Mady's comment couldn't have been more telling, and justified.

Zelda, I tend to agree with you. Swear words are just words to me, and I'm religious. It's just a word. It's about the context and knowing when it's not going to be appropriate and respecting people by refraining.
I worry much more about someone who maybe only swears a few times a week but who does it in the company of people who find it offensive, than I do about a Good Will Hunting f-this f-that 100 times a day person who makes sure to only do it around company where it's acceptable. Much like anything, you need to know and most importantly respect your audience.
I vividly recall the episode when Kate interviewed housekeepers. She hired one, checked out obscure places and expressed her disgust that the woman was inadequate. From description of clips, I agree with poster who thinks this will be rerun of the Palin trip or RV episode. Ms Kreider has tantrums and complains non stop when out of her element, meanwhile fun loving, plucky, flexible can-do Kendra ends up having fun with the kids. Oh, and patient Hank has to refrain from throwing Ms Kreider out of his house. Who needs to watch? Ho hum.
As others have commented, you always have to read between the lines with Kate's carefully chosen words: She "oversees"...that's not the same as doing it all by herself. She doesn't have a "full-time" babysitter or housekeeper....how many part-time staff does she have? In one clip filmed in the kitchen, there is another woman in the background who looks like she's helping out....hmmm. Notice when Kate enters Kendra's home, she immediately starts with the snyde comments whereas Kendra focuses more on the challenge she's facing, but not in a negative way. Despite Kate's many failures of the past year, her sense of superiority certainly hasn't diminished at all. Viewers are definitely going to empathize with Kendra and the kids. Another misstep for Kate in agreeing to do this show?

This summer I am going to host another Outer Banks virtual beach party and road trip, and we are going to stop by the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. I think it's going to just make Kate look like one big hypocrite. They have been brainwashed to be hypersensitive and to freak out over things like this when they should just be KIDS. My mother kind of "checked out" during stressful times (including pregnancies).
I thought that I had too much responsibility at any stage/age. I thought that the "chaos" we lived in was detrimental to our development.
As an adult I can review the success of my siblings. They are all wonderful citizens of the world.
We made our situation work for us. We pulled together. The shouting and shoving in the Gosselin home astounds me.
The responsibility created some great work ethic. The problem solving prepared us for the world outside our home. Our situation was not ideal, but I think far better than the Gosselin children have it.
Kate referred to her children as "robots" once. She might like it that way, but she is not doing her individual children any favors.

Re: the cursing discussion. I really don't believe that curse words are just sounds. Curse words carry power in our society. They exist precisely because they are intended to insult, hurt, diminish. They are violent verbal displays. No one would even think of using the "n" word because of the history of pain and hurt that it conjures. I especially don't like words that attempt to diminish women such as b**** or c***. They are incredibly offensive to me and are not just sounds. They actually represent something. A kick in the shins or a slap in the face is not just a gesture either.
Meals must be fun at that house if she has to bark orders such at "sit up properly, pull in to the table, napkins on your lap". These kids were almost 8 1/2 years old when this was filmed. Why do they have to be told how to sit at a table to eat? They should've learned that a long time ago.

I may be hypersensitive, I am reading a photography book by Jim Zuckerman, who is not only an amazing photographer, but a great teacher, and he is spending half the book talking about composition and showing side by side comparisons about how even the slightest little thing off in the background can spoil a photo. When you see the side by side you really start to take notice of it. Google him for a good time hehe, he is really fantastic.

If you don't want red meat fine but you do need to replace the protein you would get from the meat. Personally I would choose chicken but you can do it with beans, cheese or tofu or something. I cook a bunch of chicken and often some turkey breasts as well once a month or so, shred and put the meat in big gallon size ziploc bags, and toss in the freezer. I do the same with chickpeas, pinto beans and black beans. There is always a stash in the freezer. Then whenever there is a wrap or salad lunch that calls for a protein boost I just reach into whatever bag or container I feel like today and sprinkle on several ounces. It dethaws by lunchtime. It's a great way that works for me to get that protein you need in a quick, healthy way.

Another protein boost is to use plain greek yogurt as part of your spread. It's healthy and substantial.
All the stuff about Pastorius not realizing his girlfriend wasn't in bed doesn't add up. I'm also very suspicious that he called someone else, and had that person call for medical help instead of Pastorious calling for medical help first. However, I don't have a bit of problem believing him trying to do CPR, or carrying her downstairs for help, because I also believe that he killed her during an argument, and as soon as he realized that he had shot her, he was horrified at what he had done. Of course, by then, it was way too late.
Also if you buy the real goat cheese, in the specialty cheeses section (not the one with the Greek ruins picture on it) it will stretch further because it's so flavorful and strong. You need more than HALF A TEASPOON of course, but two heaping spoonfuls is plenty. That is my go-to cheese. Yes, it is absolutely two or three dollars more expensive than the regular feta, however, I don't go through it nearly as fast, so it all evens out.

She focuses on calorie and fat restriction and has no formal training in nutrition and again, being intellectually lazy, hasn't educated herself.
Just look at her atrophied body. Kate probably thinks "I'm skinny!!", but she's lost muscle mass and I'd bet dollars to donuts that the reason that Kate no longer boasts about running is because she rarely does run now.
Runners need fuel and I think running would just take it out of Kate because she's depleted her body of fat stores and protein, so her muscles have become her fuel.
Running in that condition just sucks. It is no fun because you are literally pushing every stride. No one can stick to it in that condition.
Admin, feta also lasts a long time in the fridge. We buy a paver-sized block of it from Costco and it keeps in a zipped baggie for weeks and weeks.
I eat it almost daily on my salads.
Now I'm in the mood for Greek shrimp linguine! Alas, I already have the seafood for cod and scallop piccata for this Friday Lenten dinner ;-)
As for the chores for the kids, any mother knows no matter what the chore list is it has to be enforced. This means making the list, checking that the chore is done and done correctly. Then instructing the kid to do the chore again if its not correct.
This takes time and patience. Kids don't magically do the chores the first time they're told. They have to be told time and time again.
While Kate has time to make and enforce the chores, she doesn't have patience. Its what every mother has to go through in order to instill responsibility and pride in children. Kate is all about the idea, not the doing.
Yes, this too will go by the wayside. The bad part about the chore list disappearing sometime in the future is the children won't receive this important life lesson.
When I mentioned CWS to my husband, his response was, "Who did Kate marry?" Great question, isn't it? Hopefully, the ratings will be awful.
In defense of the kids too, they are in school a lot, on a bus a lot, seem to be involved in sports and activities, and are probably very busy. That is a lot of house to expect kids to take care of and still attend to everything else. My feeling on a house like that is that if you can afford that house, you need to be able to afford the hired help to take care of it. If that's not your cup of tea, then don't live in a house that big. I'm not saying kids shouldn't do chores, of course they should, but that is a LOT of house for kids to be expected to keep up with when they have many other things they should be doing like schoolwork. I know kids who live in a 6,000 square foot house. Of course they have always had a full time house keeper who works her butt off, you just have to have that or don't live there. But they still are required to clean their play room themselves, and clean up their rooms and make their beds each morning, and pack their own lunches. That's fair in reasonable in my opinion. I don't think they should be required to look after the whole house however, that wasn't THEIR choice to own such a ridiculous home. I live in a place that I am willing to clean, my choice. I've done the housekeeper thing however am not doing it right now--housekeeper or not I always want to live in a place where if money is tight or the housekeeper quits or whatever, I can still manage it.

Just a couple of thoughts re writing a cookbook. First, wouldn't your recipes have to be tested by someone before they are published, and I don't mean by 8 kids? Second, don't most cookbooks today include nutritional information regarding the recipes(i.e., # servings, calories per servings, etc.)
Does Kate think that just writing down recipes qualifies her to write a cookbook? There's more to a cookbook than just recipes and pictures.
Even in her wrap recipe-she lists "Taboulah salad", with no explanation of what it is-plus she spelled "Tabbouleh" wrong. I only found out what it was by googling it-you would think she would explain what it is, or where she gets it. She felt the need to explain where to get marinated roasted red pepper, but not Tabbouleh salad.
The only thing "Mediterranean" about that wrap was that she added feta cheese.
I firmly believe that most successful people have people in their lives who are honest with them. I'll always remember this interview recently with Prince William where he said I can't stand friends who tell me I'm the greatest and I can do no wrong. I want people in my life who will be truthful with me, who will see my flaws and be honest about them. This is why he loves his Kate so much, she is honest. This is why he is going to be very successful in life and one day make a very good monarch. He doesn't want to live a fantasy. He wants to examine and improve himself as he goes along.

I have a question. I don't have a Twitter account, and I really don't know the workings of it. When Kate says to block the haters, does that mean she blocks all of those who she considers nasty haters and therefore she can't see the tweets? How, then, does she know that she is being bullied by the non-fans on Twitter...unless, of course, the fans report to her. But why would they do this, knowing that she would be upset with the remarks? I read Twazzup...is this where she's getting her information on who is doing the bullying? How else would she know who she wants to "take down?"

Wow, I looked at that video. She has a ton of makeup on and doesn't even look like herself. Kendra is just natural. It is a mom thing; she truly doesn't get it or doesn't care. If I had known what she was really like I never would have watched a single episode of JK8.

She doesn't look real. She looks like a plastic clone of every wannabe aging actress out there. It's a shame. She was an attractive, natural looking woman. I remember looking at the photo of her and Jon in their black and white outfits...her face was so fresh, her hair was cut short in a highlighted pixie cut (not many women can wear their hair that way) and she looked great. I just wonder who got hold of her and told her that she needs to be an emaciated bleach blonde in order for television to notice her. That person should be skinned and hung up to dry.
I can't believe anyone could change so much in eight years, and not for the better. There's obviously a great deal of insecurity going on there and she's going to keep changing her appearance because she's never going to be satisfied with the way she looks. We built a house that was 7,800 square feet...considerably larger than Kate's with more bedrooms and bathrooms .It didn't look that big on the blueprints...and it just kept getting bigger and bigger! I had a gal come in once a week to do the bathrooms and kitchen. I took care of everything else because I figured that we wanted a house that large and I'd take care of it. At first, I actually enjoyed doing it, probably because I'm a bit OCD and I love to clean. Bathrooms, not so much! However, I found that it was a lot of house to care for, and I was becoming a slave to it. You live and learn. We downsized to a much more manageable house, and I no longer have a housekeeper and the kids are old enough that they can do their chores
Kate wanted that house. She made her bed and now she has to deal with it. No complaining. If it's too much house, you sell it and get one that works for you. There's no shame in saying, "Hey, I bit off more than I can chew. Let's find a house that doesn't require this much work." For Kate, though, it's all about image, and giving that place up would mean that she'd be mediocre. Anything less wouldn't fit her idea of a celebrity lifestyle.
I must say that I have some idea of what she's paying in taxes, utilities, pool expenses, landscaping and other maintenance work and it's not going to get any cheaper as time goes by. She'll be more than sweating when she sits down at the table to pay the bills. Houses don't take care of themselves. When you need professionals to do it, you end up paying through the nose.

Not necessarily. A local food writer/cookbook author that I know has friends and family test recipes, but not every recipe in every good cookbook is independently tested.
For example, I have a recipe published in Molly O'Neill's "One Big Table" and I'm sure they didn't test it. I was contacted by her people for permission to use the recipe (found on my food blog) and to give an interview, because they give a blurb or more about the person who gave each recipe.
I do often think "oh, I hope anyone who makes it likes it!" and that it comes out perfectly, but I never had anyone else but me make it before.
Kate NEEDS a food expert to work with her because the misspelling, lack of food knowledge (ingredient pedigree, for example) and illogical proportions are glaring.
And that's just a stupid wrap sandwich!!

Biting off more than you can chew is not in Kate's lexicon. Never say never, no never means no, blah blah. She's rather fail in an epic fashion and go down in flames before she would admit she made a mistake.
Oh my - this Z-List celebrity worship is wearing thin with me, with some fans who will do ANYTHING to try to get an acknowledgement from "their former reality star of choice," or in many cases ANY reality "star" who will answer. Often under 21 years old. Sad state of affairs. Something is missing in their own lives if a "tweet" from a D-Z List celebrity makes their day, month, year, etc... Very disturbing.
I worry about some of the "youngins" as their focus appears to be on people on a screen/computer/twitter, etc.. as opposed to real life. Too much technology. Sorry, fun is fun, but nothing can replace what is going on with your own "real" life and what real connections you make in life face to face. Technology has become a vacuous way for some in relating to people, without making any REAL connections in life. Sorry, but I find this very disturbing. Not talking about posters here, but rather younger people who try to fill their lives on internet, and learn very little hands on interaction. A balance of both might be a better way to go. Old School here.

Yes, it was a bit on the large size, but the advantage was that there were so many hiding places when I didn't want to be found! :) There was also an unfinished area (no counted in the square footage) that was to be an apartment for my mother. We never got that done. Square footage doesn't include attic, garage or basement, so that square footage was just the first and second floor.
I had never built a house before, and I thought it sounded like just an average size until I saw it going up. Dumb! By then it was too late! I really don't regret it. We had some wonderful times there and the kids loved it. But you don't need a big house to make it a happy home.

Pre-surgery (besides the tummy tuck), but post-teeth whitening, I thought Kate was actually quite attractive and had lovely skin. She was fresh-faced and if you didn't know why lie beneath the surface, she was quite a pretty 30-something woman. Those days are long gone, never to return. Her skin looks terrible due to over-tanning, she is skinny but not healthy-looking, her hair is wrecked, and I agree with the poster who said she's not eating in a nutritious fashion. That means her body has to glean nutrients from muscle.
However, this is typical Kate. She did not appreciate what she had - a natural attractiveness. She had to spend money to "improve" her appearance - surgeries, hair weaves, tanning, botox, etc., and all she managed to do was ruin the looks she had.
It's the story of her life: Loving husband who is very hands on with their 8 kids -- not good enough, he's gone.
Two healthy twin daughters - not good enough, so she goes purposely for a multiple pregnancy. Lucky again! Has 6 healthy babies, with minimal problems. Not satisfied, seems miffed that one of her children needs glasses. Not 100% "perfect."
Pushes for and gets a tv show about her family. Makes a lot of money, gets a ton of freebies. Not good enough. Always wants more. Is rarely grateful.
Gets the opportunity to host on The View more than once. Does a craptastic job every time. Despite being drooled after by the show's producer, finally they can't have her back even one more time because the audience hates her. Makes Barbara Walters look like a fool for pronouncing that Kate has "stah!" power.
Opportunity after opportunity has been given to Kate Krieder, and she has run each and every one into the ground because of her own hubris and mental instability.
I grew up in a big two-story house out in the country. There were 8 kids in our family, and we all had chores. But we were expected to "help" around the house, not "maintain" it.
As a young child, we had to make our beds in the morning (consisting of smoothing the comforter flat so it looked nice - usually the sheets were jumbled underneath!); help set or clear the table; take folded clothes up to our rooms and put them away, etc. Simple chores.
As we got older, we had more involved chores, such as cooking a meal once a week. Usually two siblings would be paired up to cook the meal and help each other. Other sibs would set the table, clear the table, and do the dishes.
We had to take care of our animals - feed the horse, the goat, the chickens, the cats and dogs, hamsters, rabbit, etc.
On week-ends, we had to do some chores outside, like haul and stack wood, or sweep the patio, pull weeds, harvest tomatoes, corn or zucchini from the garden.
One year we put in an above-ground pool. That summer, we all had to help dig out the area for the pool, then sift the dirt to eliminate even the smallest pebbles for the foundation. Oh we worked! But we weren't made to toil, if you know what I mean. We were always treated like the children we were.
I can't believe Kate is unable to afford a housekeeper once a week. If that's really true, then she has gone through those childrens' money at an alarming rate.

Kind of like the poster or posters who called the school after Kate blogged about Science Night. Why? For what purpose? I'm sure the school knows all about Kate and really doesn't care. The kids are their concern, and academically, I'm sure they are doing what needs to be done, in addition to protecting their privacy. What Kate and Kendra do doesn't involve the school. It's been done and it can't be undone. Why call even more attention to it?

Yeah really. I think she left her obligations at CC in the dust to go play switch-a-roo and Scott wasn't having it. Hence "recent events." She is just like those five year olds in the experiment where they say now here is a cupcake. If you WAIT, I'll give you TWO cupcakes. Most of the kids eat it. But if you do the experiment with nine year olds, they'll hold out for the two cupcakes. Kate can't hold out.

Yeah she has. In a separate incident, she voluntarily checked herself into rehab and shortly after left. She also entered Promises for about 30 days but left there too. Those aren't 5150 holds, those are voluntary. Hence why I said in and out of rehab. This was all around when she lost her kids.

It's really expensive to alter video I thought. That's usually saved for big budget films. I really doubt some low budget throw away reality show is bothering to try to alter Kate. That was her, a terrible mess. The cinematographer can adjust things on his end but only so much. That's more about lighting and filters, not actually altering appearance.
In fact I heard that reality shows have to even so much as pixelate a few things their budgets get BLOWN. It's very expensive.

Why in the world did KK not invest in a home tanning bed? She should have done a column on CC about that, maybe about she could have grifted one. Yes, you can. One way is through Photoshop CS6. There are several demonstrations online that show exactly how it's done. It's an interesting technique. That said, I seriously doubt that the video of Kate was photoshopped. It's just a bad make-up job.

What else does Kate have to offer TV except the complaining, grouchy, demanding and overworked
person she has painted herself to be? If she ever presented herself as a nice person the character that is Kate Gosselin would be altered. She is OK with a negative image because that's what gets her noticed and talked about. A nice, calm, easygoing Kate Gosselin? Too vanilla. Besides, THAT would require her to act. Being difficult just takes, well, being herself - a grumpy drill sergeant who just can't believe how wonderful she is.
Isn't her demeanor of the reasons she was chosen for this episode anyway? The producers were looking for someone to counterbalance her
life and her style of being. When they thought of Kate first, they thought "oh boy. This ought to be interesting. Now we need someone who is a lot more pleasant."
So, the episode shows who she is, she capitalizes on it every chance she gets, and she merrily skips off to be herself some more.

What are they ever trying to prove? That they can curse with the best of them; that they can make up facts to suit their purpose. All they do to make Kate look more credible that she is being harassed and bullied. I don't understand that they can't see that. I think that some of them should be careful about making wild accusations against Kate and other sheeple...things that are exaggerated, embellished, and just aren't true. You never know when you're going to really tick off the wrong person.

I stand corrected regarding the rehab for Britney Spears. However, her issue was not substance abuse per se, but mental illness, which is why she now has a conservatorship. If she has bipolar disorder, which I believe she does, self medication is part and parcel of it. Saying she's been in and out of rehab, while it may be correct, is not the whole story and misrepresents her true issues. So I'm going to stand by my point even though my facts may not have been perfect. If you know what I mean.
That wasn't the point though. The point was she had serious problems, including drugs, that resulted in her losing her children. Someone was giving examples of other mothers losing their kids, and we were pointing out that was because they had very serious problems and that typically that doesn't happen.
Actually, the judge specifically cited her drug use when she took the kids. Mental health may have played a role but drugs is what the judge said was the reason for taking the kids according to the article.

I showed a few friends of mine that are computer geeks, and are into computer graphics, Kates pic, and they told me, yes video can be altered with the right software, using a computer. They do it all the time on YouTube, TV etc. It's nothing new they have been doing that for years. It's called: special effects. I'm still trying to play catch-up, but wanted to comment on a few things. I haven't read any of the articles on KK, looked at any of the pix of KK, and don't intend to watch any of the publicity interviews or CWS, but I'm certainly looking forward to Admin's recap. That should be worth a few belly laughs. The person I'd most like to see KK "wife-swap" with would be Betty Hayes, not Michelle Duggar. The Duggar's lifestyle is just as unreal as KK's is. Betty is a real wife and mother. I'd love to see how KK would cope with 4 (count 'em 4) teenagers and a severely limited child. 10 kids who have not had the life regimented out of them. She couldn't handle 10 INDIVIDUAL children with their own wants, desires, talents, personalities and opinions. I'd also love to see how she'd react to the way a "tough cop" "keeps his kids in line", with plenty of hugs, snuggles and humor as well as discipline.

I think it's a very interesting aspect to the whole Kate Twitter saga. You have the sheeple, the non-fans, and the haters. It's the psychological dynamics -- trying to figure out why each of the three units does what it does. The obsessed haters, while not realizing that by tweeting over-the-top vile and hateful remarks directly to Kate and to sheeple, are in reality making Kate appear a victim in all of this. They are actually defeating their "purpose" and are evoking sympathy for her. It's a mystery why they do this...their mission in all of it, and what they hope to accomplish, eludes me.

I can already tell this is going to make my blood boil. All she does is bark orders at those kids. She doesn't enjoy them for one second. She is going to give them high blood pressure before they ar 15 years old.

The above has a couple of clips. I cant seem to get them to run one at a time, so you have to concentrate on what each is saying...maybe it is my computer. But one of the clips shows Kate is her militant style role. She says she doesnt have a fulltime babysitter or cleaning lady! The second these kids start to turn on Kate they are going to be done in the sheeple's eyes. I noticed Kendra "fed" them tacos in the basement rec room. They made their own, putting in as much or as little of each ingredient as they wanted. Then, they sat down on a kindergarten type mat to eat. One kid walked RIGHT on top of another kid's paper plate, and then she knocked over her drink bottle. I'm beginning to believe Kate's form of
serving from the kitchen has caused her children to have no idea about eating a casual meal. They seemed to be completely lost on how to eat without a table, in a circle.

Nah, that's just in the preview. When you see the episode, they're back to being the same size they were a year-and-a-half ago when they stopped filming.
This always cracks me up...the "kids have grown so much" tweets, "kids have gotten older." What do they expect? Some strange Twilight Zone warp where the kids are toddlers forever?
I like in the clip with the picnic where some of the taco filling spilled on the floor, and Kendra says "that's okay", whereas Kate is picking some food up off the floor at Kendra's.

Their total ineptness at "normal" social interactions like simply grabbing a spot on the floor and eating something fun will just make Kate justify why everything must be regulated like Escape from Alcatraz all the time. See, they can't handle it.
Listen, the reason they can't handle this stuff is because they were never allowed the freedom to learn it. This is the consequence. At nine years old they can't handle something so simple. This kind of controlled, regimented parenting was bound to have serious consequences and now we're seeing them.

I have long felt that some if not all of these kids will have serious work ethic problems when they are adults. Why they would even want to work at all I don't know. They might instead rebel and just want to screw around all the time because they worked so much as kids. They are going to feel like so much of their childhoods were spent on the clock and that they deserve to just relax and live off their trust funds, which apparently have been set up for them and that they WILL be able to access someday. Of course it's good they will get their money but it may have the effect of making them feel like well good screw it now I don't have to work I finally am getting my dues.
The only thing that can be done at this point is make sure they don't spend a single solitary second of their childhoods working again. That's the only hope they really have at not feeling like they should retire when they are 18 and everyone can suck it. If they already see work as such an exhausting chore God help them.

Milo thinks that Kate is going to set the world on fire with this one episode - that every network is going to be camping out in Wernersville, beating on Kate's door just waiting for her to sign a contract. The way those clips play, this is going to be Sarah Palin camping trip take two, with Kate being a sour, unappreciative bitch, Hank as Sarah's dad (she bitched from the moment she got off the plane), and Kendra playing the role of Sarah Palin treating the kids like the kids that they are, doing her best to go with the flow, and selling Kate down the river.
That camping trip turned a TON of fans away. It was a mass exodus. I don't think this is going to go the way Milo thinks.

But– and I'm sorry, I just tend to be a bit of a Devil's advocate– isn't 'condemning', in a way, people who swear very prejudicial? My mother was a Kindergarten aide for 15 years and generated my elementary school's first after-school tutoring program– did she curse around her charges? Heck no! And had I swore in public, trust me, she'd have had my figurative hide.
I guess I just don't understand why people view swearing as being so "loaded", just as you don't understand why people can be casual about it. Curses are just words to me– I wouldn't swear during a job interview or around my (late) grandparents, but my boss, a 70+ lady, swears around me, I can swear around her...it's about the audience and context, I guess. Growing up around swearing made it less taboo, at least for me.
Honestly– and this is controversial– I could say the same thing about people who believe in the literal Bible. I wouldn't want my kids around strident Christians any more than they'd want their kids around my agnostic, cursing butt.

When I heard Mady say "All I've ever really known is work. Work is a bad thing...when you have too much.", I knew exactly how she felt! Both my sister and I still loathe housekeeping. Not too long ago, she asked me if I feel like I'm being punished when I vacuum and mop floors. I said that I got rid of the carpets so I wouldn't have to vacuum, but I sure do feel punished when I have to not only cook, but do the dishes. Neither of us have ever been 'Suzy Homemaker'. We both had very good work ethic outside the house, and I think that is because a job was away from the house.
Remona, exactly what we were saying earlier today. It's not the kids' choice to live in a McMansion and they shouldn't have to feel like all they do is work to maintain their mother's fantasy. If between EIGHT children they are still feeling overwhelmed, you need to either downsize or fork over the money for full time help, period. They also shouldn't feel they have to work their childhoods away so she can have the lifestyle she wants. Mady's comment couldn't have been more telling, and justified.

Zelda, I tend to agree with you. Swear words are just words to me, and I'm religious. It's just a word. It's about the context and knowing when it's not going to be appropriate and respecting people by refraining.
I worry much more about someone who maybe only swears a few times a week but who does it in the company of people who find it offensive, than I do about a Good Will Hunting f-this f-that 100 times a day person who makes sure to only do it around company where it's acceptable. Much like anything, you need to know and most importantly respect your audience.
I vividly recall the episode when Kate interviewed housekeepers. She hired one, checked out obscure places and expressed her disgust that the woman was inadequate. "I don't know whose standard THAT would meet!" she huffed. I have a sad feeling her children's cleaning efforts will met the same criticism. How deflating.

When I watched Downton Abbey and saw the very beautiful and very real Elizabeth McGovern I realized wonky eyes neither have to be remarked on, nor do they have to in any way hold you back. Sometimes they just are.
Ms Kreider is soooo boring and predictable. Kendra is married, Ms Kreider is not, of course she will criticize Kendra about her wifely duties or her lack in doing them.
From description of clips, I agree with poster who thinks this will be rerun of the Palin trip or RV episode. Ms Kreider has tantrums and complains non stop when out of her element, meanwhile fun loving, plucky, flexible can-do Kendra ends up having fun with the kids. Oh, and patient Hank has to refrain from throwing Ms Kreider out of his house. Who needs to watch?

She "oversees"...that's not the same as doing it all by herself.
She doesn't have a "full-time" babysitter or housekeeper....how many part-time staff does she have? In one clip filmed in the kitchen, there is another woman in the background who looks like she's helping out....hmmm.
Notice when Kate enters Kendra's home, she immediately starts with the snyde comments whereas Kendra focuses more on the challenge she's facing, but not in a negative way. Despite Kate's many failures of the past year, her sense of superiority certainly hasn't diminished at all.
Viewers are definitely going to empathize with Kendra and the kids. Another misstep for Kate in agreeing to do this show?

Cara will be taller than Kate I suspect. I hope she gets the strength to look down on her mom and say "no". My dd rebelled big time when she was 13-14 because of issues with her dad. He moved back into the area with his wife. He hadn't been around since she was 10. Anyway they were over-the-top controlling and mean. She was scared of them but exerted her frustration on me...refusing to do anything I requested. She started being quite belligerant and was so so full of anger. Your comments echo my thoughts perfectly. My god, what a way to live. Watching the clip just confirmed for me that there is no way I will watch this. I wasn't planning on watching because I figured it would just be a big, fake joke, but after seeing that clip, there's nothing funny about life at the Gosselins. It's just so sad. Kate will never get help and will never see the big picture of life.

Oh, wow. Just watched the longer clip. Kate was so disrespectful of Kendra's kitchen, entire house and a small raisin spill. She came off very bitchy & judgmental. Ah, but the sheeple wlll take it and turn it around so that she's the embodiment of the perfect mother, saying that when you have that many kids you have to maintain discipline and having rigid rules is the only way to do it. They will praise her for running an efficient household, ignoring the fact that these are KIDS and not boot camp.
There is something very wrong when a kid notices or even cares about a mess. Kids shouldn't CARE. They have been brainwashed to be hypersensitive and to freak out over things like this when they should just be KIDS. My mother kind of "checked out" during stressful times (including pregnancies).
I thought that I had too much responsibility at any stage/age. I thought that the "chaos" we lived in was detrimental to our development.
As an adult I can review the success of my siblings. They are all wonderful citizens of the world.
We made our situation work for us. We pulled together. The shouting and shoving in the Gosselin home astounds me.
The responsibility created some great work ethic. The problem solving prepared us for the world outside our home. Our situation was not ideal, but I think far better than the Gosselin children have it.
Kate referred to her children as "robots" once. She might like it that way, but she is not doing her individual children any favors.

Re: the cursing discussion. I really don't believe that curse words are just sounds. Curse words carry power in our society. They exist precisely because they are intended to insult, hurt, diminish. They are violent verbal displays. No one would even think of using the "n" word because of the history of pain and hurt that it conjures.
I especially don't like words that attempt to diminish women such as b**** or c***. They are incredibly offensive to me and are not just sounds. They actually represent something.
A kick in the shins or a slap in the face is not just a gesture either.
Meals must be fun at that house if she has to bark orders such at "sit up properly, pull in to the table, napkins on your lap". These kids were almost 8 1/2 years old when this was filmed. Why do they have to be told how to sit at a table to eat? They should've learned that a long time ago.
If I heard her barking these orders at me all the time, I would definitely lose my appetite.
I'm not sure exactly what Kendra brought to the table in terms of her part of the rules change.
If eating tacos in the basement family room was allowing the kids freedom in her mind, it was rather lame. She said "I still respect your mother's wishes" (or something to that effect), like Kate scared the hell out of her. Was she really that timid and afraid to bust out fun times for the kids?
And you just know Kate threatened and warned those kids prior to leaving that she would see EVERYTHING at some point and that they better not try and take advantage of the situation--under penalty of severeness, of course.
What a joke this is.

yeah, Kate is not the one to bark out dining etiquette rules. She eats like a pig!
Man, I feel sorry for the kids all over- thought maybe off TV they would have more chance to be happy and relaxed at home, but not with Kate.
Kate enjoys being a tyrant.
She may convince herself that rules and structure are the only way to raise her children and keep order.
Actually, it is HER only comfort zone. She needs to make rules and watch the kids comply.
Obedience, compliance and "fear" of her make Kate feel in control and powerful.
The kids will pay the price for her need to dominate.

This is the problem with the enablers--forgetting that these are also JON's kids. Is it's also Kate's call to whip them by the hair and thrown them into their crib because of potty training accidents? Or to use a wooden spoon to "happy them up"?
Would Milo's tune ever change if Kate actually got arrested for child abuse? I sincerely doubt it.

I've gone on record here as saying that I think curses are a valid second language, but it's more than that. Curses ARE just words, but what makes those words curses is my question?

I remember a few years ago when one football coach criticized another coach for his cursing in an HBO episode. There was an article written about the controversy, and I found it online. It actually makes some valid points...

Oh, wow. Just watched the longer clip. Kate was so disrespectful of Kendra's kitchen, entire house and a small raisin spill. She came off very bitchy & judgmental. Kendra looked like she was doing her best to abide by Kate's rules but wanted the kids to have fun. Wasn't it heart-breaking when Mady said "all I've ever known is work." Also she was carrying on about messes like Kate as were Alexis and a boy with a taco- messed sock. Rude kids IMO. I bet the kids did enjoy Kendra- don't know about Hank and Hank re: Kate...!! I don't care for Kendra's personal shenanigans but she's a better mom by far from this clip.

Kate is still using her kids to further her "career"- because she still lacks marketable talents.
Nothing has changed. Kate continues to be an ungreatful, attention whoring, entitled, suck the life out of everything control freak, who happily sells her innocent family to the highest bidder.

I agree with people who are saying we are all adults and can choose to watch or not. I was always bemused by the "my remote fell on the floor and changed the channel to TLC" comments. Why not just admit you watched it? I will DVR it and watch it when I can fast forward through commercials. That way I won't waste and hour of my time. Only 47 minutes. LOL.
