Lance Armstrong: The interview

"Yes, I was a bully. I was a bully in the sense that I tried to control the narrative and if I didn't like what someone said I turned on them."

Lance Armstrong's long, hard fall from his fake reality has been fascinating to watch. Armstrong has been called selfish, narcissistic, and even sociopathic, not unlike many other people who have hit it big. But is he perhaps one of the nastiest celebs we've ever seen?

Oprah's entire interview with the disgraced cyclist can be seen here:

Allison is awesome at twittering, she gets it. She's always retweeting interesting or funny stuff and she's clever herself and rarely self serving. She truly seems to just enjoy people, fans, and the interaction, but never crosses any boundaries.

When she testified at the hearings, naturally the sheeple descending on her copying her in all their wars and whatnot... Allison basically nipped it in the bud and said you guys, on both sides, are disgustingly nasty to each other, insane, ENOUGH I am OUT. Good for her.

Also why couldn't you pop in to check twitter as you are packing? Packing takes all weekend long, all 48 hours?

Right! I had to read that a second time. She said she's going away NEXT WEEK and is packing Saturday and can't tweet? Is that how you understood it, too?

My "real" heating pad died on me tonight and I was googling to find a good one. It's brutally cold here, and my furry heating pads deserted me and are lying next to the heat vent on the floor.

And I do hope this twitter party comes to fruition. I'm dying to see what hints Kate throws out to her followers to get them all excited.

The way the tweeties are acting, you'd think that Kate announced she has a new show, not a "tweety party". She must have noticed that not too many responded to her mediocre, once in a while tweets, so now she's whipped them up into a frenzy and they're probably all marking their calendars and setting phone reminders.

Some of them even want to know the time of the party. How much you want to be that she'll come up with some excuse to NOT tweet this weekend?

Razzle Dazzle them, Kate, and just keep them begging for more.

So glad I have friends who do not need to schedule me into a Twitter party, or even more pathetic, put that on a to do list. My cousin and I do have a running Saturday morning telephone coffee date, but somehow I don't think that is what K8 and her tweeties are up to.
Actually I am not surprised to read some of her tweeties have fallen away in this month o'silence. The internet is a fickle place.

That's what good manipulators do. Get you all worked up and excited, and only deliver 10% of the time.

But, some people will let themselves get burned 9 out of 10 times because that 1 out of 10 times is enough to keep them coming back for more.

If Kate had a "Bat Signal" you just know it would be the number "8".

She may just come through with this party. Her birthday is only 2 months away and she has to start her grifting for gifts. She's probably making a list of things to tweet about as we speak. I wouldn't put it past her to say that one of the kids mentioned that her birthday is coming up in 2 months, and want to know what she wants.

Awwww, that sounds just like my little girl - she has a creamy mint green fleece hoody that is a baby's hoody that I got at goodwill. It fits her perfectly because it has elastic at the waist...well, it would fit her perfectly if I cut the arms down because I have to roll them up.

Hi, everybody. Hope to see and hear some of the old familiar names and new onew, too since the holiday is over.

off subject. Went to an oyster roast tonight. Oh My, How Delicious!!

I remember baseball players years ago were leaner than now. Some of them today look like they belong on a football team. Odd.

Watched The Following last night. Not for children. Haunting and disturbing and think I'll have to watch it next week. The most disturbing thing about it is that the serial killer 'grooms' people to kill for him via the internet. Wonder if this has happened in real life by the strong influencing the weak to act out? Today? I would not be surprised.

Lance Armstrong is sorry. Sorry he got caught. Then he'll thrive. What an example for young people. Like the 'stars' admitting they were using drugs, but cleaned up and say, "Look at me now!." Problem is the young see they did all this 'bad' stuff and came out on top. In real life that doesn't happen. When someone is blessed enough to excell in sports, politics, business and have young people looking up to them, they have a responsibility to carry that blessing with respect and strength and act accordingly.

Night. will check in tomorrow!''Higs, every

Yes...I needed a GPS to find my way back.:D I recently read a story on yahoo about a woman who got lost and went 900 miles out of her way...in Europe...due to some sort of GPS error. She crossed over the borders of several countries before she realized she was lost.....sounds like something I could have done.

I never knew how to go on the internet until about 2004. The computer screen is still almost like going through a mirror into a strange land for me. I almost...on some level...find it hard to believe it's actually the real world.

I grew up and spent most of my life in a relatively small town and never travelled much....and only got to see such a small slice of life and of the world. When I was a kid I spent lots of time in the library and reading books....that was my window to the rest of the world. But the internet...oh my....it's like library come alive to me. I think my grown children think it's funny how enamored I am with it. I can't imagine now how I lived all those years without it. You can truly give yourself a grand education with it, that's for sure.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Dee, even though I grew up with the internet since about 7th grade I am STILL enamored with the wealth of information out there. I love it. People have misused it sometimes, but overall it's an amazing thing.

I will often be watching a movie that will prompt me to research whatever it is about further. Wikipedia is a starting point and that leads to other sites and often books. And now that I've discovered my library has Kindle books for FREE (only catch is you can only have them for 3 weeks, but you can always check them out again) I'm in hog heaven here.

SHERI, it's really nice to see you back, and others! Our door is always open.

As far as Lance Armstrong.....I watched his interview with Oprah and was very disappointed. He is still denying certain things and still believes he is entitled to be a part of the cycling world. Aeduko, thanks for the summary of points relating to Lance. The dh and I are big cycling fans, and Lance s attitude is not surprising. He had always had the reputation that if someone was not with him, they were his enemy. Trying so hard to destroy other people, that is the real sin of his hubris.
I posted this to tail end of the last thread, right before admin put up this topic. Saturday Night Live on this past Saturday January 19 had very funny opening. Guy imitating Piers Morgan had guests on hits talk show, including comedians portraying Lance (who even kinda looked like him), Manti Teo, and Jodie Foster. Does anyone notice a tell-tale sign of a certain punctuation mark?" I think Kate got herself a new writing gig that she can use to not only promote herself, but pay for her mani/pedis. From Celeb dirty laundry: (http://www.celebdirtylaundry.com/2013/kate-gosselin-beat-up-lonely-single-mom-role-model-0123/_

It’s amazing how a cheating scandal can force one to pick sides about a couple that was previously considered irrelevant, but that’s exactly what happened to me when news of Kate Gosselin and Jon Gosselin’s divorce hit the web. There’s nothing to glorify when a dad doubly cheats on his wife (he cheated on the woman he cheated with! It’s like watching people on TV watch TV . . . very Twilight Zone!) and, though I hated to admit that Kate might have any redeeming qualities, one emerged: Kate hadn’t broken her family apart and devastated her kids.
Since the split, I’ve questioned some of her actions. As with any TV family, I have to wonder what will happen when the kids grow up, never knowing privacy at home. Kim Kardashian’s sex tape comes to mind. Since her TLC show went off the air, however, Kate seems to have reformed herself in an unexpected and inspiring manner: she’s ditched the mullet, trained for a marathon, and is devoted to her kids.
We reported that Kate had learned to take pleasure in the small things, such as running carpool for eight kids on a Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, it isn’t all roses and giggles in Kate’s home, and she often feels overwhelmed. Well, I imagine any single parent would, what with eight children!
Always optimistic, Kate tweeted, “Hi every1! Moving fast&working hard!I’ll catch up soon so I can slow 2 a ‘normal’ pace! Any1 else feel like 2013 is beating them . . . up? ;)” We’re three weeks into the year, but Kate is already exhausted by the responsibilities her family presents her. What’s a mom to do? She really seems to have turned a new leaf, and we want her to stay the path!
Later this evening, Kate shared, “I’m saying ‘hey’ you, my tweety friends ARE on my ‘to do list’ today!I miss you & will be back to chat soon . . . tweety party this wkend?” Besides admiring her excellent adherence to Twitter’s strict 140 character or less policy, I think we should also be thankful for her priorities! A lot of parents use her twitter and website as motivation—she shares workout tips, recipes, and cute anecdotes. Before, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine Kate willing to drop the kids with a sitter to be in the spotlight. But now? She’s working hard to schedule time for fans, but won’t sacrifice her family to do so!
I wish more celebrities would go in this direction—sure, we get super private celebrities who keep baby pictures under lock and key, and refuse to comment, except in movie studio contracted interviews, but Kate seems to have found a truly happy medium. I wish her all the best, and hope she can continue to set goals for herself and be an amazing role model to her kids! Are you happy that Kate’s focusing on family, or do you think they should be back on the air?

I think that's a big assumption - we have no direct knowledge (at least I don't think anything definitive has been put out) that she's without help. It does make sense that as the kids have gotten older and are just generally more self-sufficient she may have cut back a bit but Kate got a hefty taste of what it's like to have help. I have trouble believing she's without it now.

Changed my avatar to a photo of me feeding Papa Goose and his extended family.

I almost have to keep the food under lock and key. It is a favorite of raccoons, too. If I leave it out on the deck, they will find a way to steal every morsel.

The Min Pins and the geese have an uneasy alliance and choose to ignore each other. That "pretense" works until there are fluffs of babies. Then the geese become very protective and the dogs are threatened to keep their distance. The dogs always looked miffed in a hey-you-liked-me-just-fine-yesterday kind of attitude.

I am an observer in this community of wild life.

I have a little story today about "them". No flaming, please. It's just an interesting story.

My relative's son is gay. The dad has not taken it well. Has always had plenty to say....to them, in front of them.
I've had plenty to say to *him*, as in "Knock it off!"
He's entitled to his opinion, but he wasn't being respectful about it.

Fast forward to this week. The son's partner died in his sleep of sleep apnea, at the young age of 30. The dad was of course heartbroken for his son. He was mentioning the loss to some acquaintances. It soon became apparent that this was a gay relationship.

One of the women says, "Oh yeah, there are a lot of them around." Nice response, eh?

The dad, who has done nothing but mock the relationship, stands up and says, "This is not a "them"! This is my son and he is in pain! I will thank you to keep your opinions to yourself!"

All of us around him were stunned. Never in my life did I think that he would have stood up for his son.
He finally got it. There wasn't a "them". There was just a son, suffering terribly from the unexpected loss of the person he loved.

No comments, please. I just needed to share. It's a huge loss.

Since we're comparing temps, it's currently 45 here on the sunny southeast coast - cloudless, gorgeous, but for us very cold.

The Canada geese are here, too, on the pond behind my house. I need to find something to feed them. Corn, maybe? We also get two kinds of herons, egrets, ducks, wood storks, tons of bluebirds...

And alligators.

The gators are quite interesting and very intelligent, really. You just have to keep small animals away from the pond, or put up a fence.

Hey Nancy,
I moved away from the Chinook zone and I actually find it a little easier, I just set in for a long cold winter and there is no back and forth! Easier on my plants too! Last two winter have been pretty mild, this is by far the coldest week we've had with the exception of Christmas...

On another note (related to this post). I saw Oprah Winfrey live on Monday night and she talked a little about her recent Lance A interview. She was asked if she felt he was being sincere and she responded that the interview and admitting that what he did was not exactly ok was his first step in moving forward. He only very recently realized that he might not have made the best choices and that he might have some fault in all of this. It will be a progression for him to realize he even needs/wants forgiveness from himself and from others. She also said that she felt he had the capacity for greatness 'if he chooses it'. In other words, if he chooses to use his determination to serve others rather than himself there is not telling what he might do going forward.

ps If you ever have a chance to go see Oprah live...do it. I never really watched her show, but wow what a presence. She had ~15 000 people hanging on her every word. (including my DH)

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

I had to go to the home page and use the search feature. Here you go...

"It’s amazing how a cheating scandal can force one to pick sides about a couple that was previously considered irrelevant, but that’s exactly what happened to me when news of Kate Gosselin and Jon Gosselin’s divorce hit the web.

Are you happy that Kate’s focusing on family, or do you think they should be back on the air?"

See if this works.

Basically it's praising her for seemingly changing her attitude and putting her kids ahead of her self promotion/tweeting.

We're a balmy 59 degrees in Silicon Valley with a 60% chance of rain this afternoon/evening. Our Heater's been cutting out so the house was a chilly 64 when we woke up. Time to change the furnace filter.

Just wanted to pop in and say that my intuition with Kate tweeting about all her house projects is that she is going to put on the house on the market this spring. Or, knowing how diabolical she is, could just want to garner sympathy about the the kids "losing their house". I have never understood her remaining there, since it was Jon who wanted the land.

The first paragraph talks about Jon "cheating". Why even reach way back to those days? It's OVER and btw, I'd like the writer to point to one instance where Kate said Jon cheated on her while they were together in their marriage. Not when separated, but when they were still living as a married couple.

The same writer who wrote that article also wrote another one about Kate a few days ago. She was particularly kind to Kate in that article. I think she's just hoping (like some of us) that Kate is finally putting her children ahead of herself. The first paragraph of that article says it all:

"Most parents would agree that raising a kid is hard, so we do sympathize with Kate Gosselin—a little! Having eight children sounds like a full-time migraine, though with love and those little moments that bring smiles. I’ve always compared Kate to Octomom—she comes off as a totally fake, abusive, fame whoring woman who is more interested in turning family drama into prime time television than anything else! But Kate may have turned over a new page, and is devoting more time to her kids!"

http://www.celebdirtylaundry.com/2013/kate-gosselin-fame-whore-kids-children-time-twitter-0121/

And if you think about it--that's probably what Kate's twitter agenda is right now. Her new role is playing the Supermom who spends more time with her kids than her tweeties.

Lance's interview with Oprah is the first step in his 'recovery'. I don't feel he fully owns his truth yet, but saying it out loud is stepping in that direction. It will be an evolution for him, and he has to decide that is what he wants...

I read Prairie Bitch, pretty good. Also Melissa Sue's, Melissa Francis', and Melissa Gilbert's books!
I thought a little of what Alison said was a bit snarky but I was a Prairie fan. Melissa G's was rather self-promoting and Melissa Sue's went by scenes in the show- odd but effective. Maybe the Carrie twins will write one soon! It seems no one liked Melissa Sue but she seems pretty nice in her book and does not diss the others. All of them, I would say, had difficult relationships with their mothers.

All versions sound interesting - I will have to check my library resources to see if/when I can check these out. I was a fan of Little House when a child. The Hallmark Channel now shows reruns and I caught one not too long ago. The sugary sweetness hurt my teeth, and I had not tuned into the strong religious overtones. Quite different from the books, and no longer enjoyable (to me).

Putting the house on the market would be the sensible thing to do. It has to cost quite a lot to upkeep the property and the house, not to mention property taxes, heating and cooling bills, etc. And even Kate has to feel strange all alone in that house when the children are with Jon, which appears to be close to half the time. I have a small home and it feels quiet and empty when my one child is gone for the week-end.

Mel -- I hope you will accept one comment. Condolences to your relative. The loss of a life partner is devastating. He'll need the support of his entire family to get through this. Prayers for all of you.

Before I moved about 10 years ago, I lived in a development that was bordered by a creek. We live on a minor flyway and there is a wildlife sanctuary about 10 miles away, so we see lots of migratory birds. The Canada Geese would always bed down by the creek, and would wander through the development at will. People would feed them, so they grew quite bold. One morning, I was getting ready to leave for work at o'dark thirty. As I leaned over to unlock my car door I heard a loud "QWAAAAAAAANK!!" behind me. I jumped a foot, turned around, and there was a huge Canada goose rushing at me. I'm quite short, and that goose, with its wings fully extended, was nearly as big as I am. Scared the living daylights out of me. After that, I always made sure I had a slice of bread or a baggie of cat food with me, just to keep the geese away.

It's 23 degrees here now, but the wind chill last night was -6. BRRRRRRRR! I HATE cold weather! Can't wait 'til Spring, even if it does mean constant sneezing and nose blowing, LOL.

I have some puppy piddle (lol!) pads, and I put one inside at the door. She used that...was a bit confused but seemed relieved (no pun intended) that she didn't have to go outside.

Question. Kate tweeted last night...

Hi everyone~

I came here last evening and wrote a comment and then want to "publish" it and lost the internet. I ended up spending several hours on the phone with my son....he had me clicking on screens...did something with "pings" and "diagnostics", etc....and finally got it back on around MN. But then when I just returned here a bit ago....and was catching up...I saw my comment from last night and I can't figure out how it even went through.

I'd honestly meant to stay around...not just write one comment and leave. I just lost the internet for hours and couldn't get back here. I still can't figure out how that comment even managed to post. Sorry about that.

I wish we could find a new subject to critique...someone/thing controversial yet who/that would fit with the theme of this blog. Boy, when you really think about it....WHAT was it about Kate Gosselin that made her good for literally YEARS of conversation, critique and snarking?

I'd kinda thought HoneyBooBoo might be a fun topic....but haven't heard much about that show lately. Perhaps it was because I got so lost in an entirely different section of the internet for so long....the mommy-blog wars. Has anyone ever heard of the mommy-blog wars involving a person named "Mckmama"?

I found the whole subject fascinating because there were a lot of parallels with the Kate Gosselin situation. A woman with many young children had a very popular blog (from which she made a LOT of money, apparently) and a war erupted over multiple issues related to her blog....and long story short, much of the dedication of her die-hard fans related to the fact that there were a lot of religious things on the blog (similar to KG's post-it notes, etc.).

And ultimately....she had a die-hard fan base (mainly related to a religious connection) that just refused to believe multiple accusations even when they were proven.
You can't find the actual original blog...it was lost...or sold...in a bankruptcy....but there's a whole blogosphere about the debacle....and there were SO many similarities to the KG situation.

I certainly don't want to beat-up on KG if she's not really doing anything to deserve it.
I just wish we could find something or someone as equally fascinating to discuss. Believe me...I've put some thought into it myself....it's just that I don't really like reality shows much....I love old movies.

You know, if kart puts the house on the market, it will be ALL Jon's fault. She'll try to get interviews to cry about how he destroyed his kids life and hers. She'll tweet little snide remarks and throw him under the bus for 'causing to lose the house'. Her 6 tweet buddies will lambast him yet again.....

I called it here tonight. Let's see how long it takes for the whining to begin.

Of course, we KNOW it's not his fault. But she'll try to make it his.....

Sad.

DMASY, honey, my fingers are crossed for your DH up on the roof. Men sometimes get the wildest ideas of immortality, honestly. The "abolitionists" warrant just a paragraph or two in American History class. They were so diverse and complicated that's almost an insult.

I have had to do quite a bit of research on the abolitionists because the protagonist in the historical novel I am writing (well, it's complete, now I'm editing!) is an abolitionist, a religious young woman who moved to Kansas with her father to influence the vote for a free state after the Kansas Nebraska act allowed the issue to be up to the popular vote--setting off tremendous conflict.

There was her group, the religious folks who felt it was God's calling to do something drastic like packing up and moving West. There were very radical abolitionists who all but got tarred and feathered, there were those willing to resort to violence, there were those adamantly AGAINST violence, those who thought slaves were truly equal and those who felt that even though they should be freed, they were not equal by any means. Even Lincoln did too much hemming and hawing and pacifying to please many abolitionists. Many actually couldn't stand him! They were ALL working toward the same goal but they all had different ideas how to accomplish it.

It's not unlike what we see today. Often, in any kind of issue that attracts more than a few passionate people to the cause, there is disagreement. It has been happening since the beginning of time. But we can always find some common ground and keep working toward the goal and not let disagreements over the finer details derail the cause. An important and inspiring message.

Dee, I do remember reading about Mc blogger when the shit hit the fan. I read the MWOP blog. Was mildly interested, I guess. As I recall the biggest problem people had was how large she lived high on the hog even after declaring bankruptcy (her bankruptcy was denied), how many lies she had been caught in, and how much she exploited her kid (there was huge outrage when she tweeted pics of her toddler in the ER whose heart had stopped!!!!) Some things people complained about were petty, but I don't think it's petty to call a Mommy blogger out who is claiming to blog about HER life when she is lying about it. I don't so much agree when you are NOT blogging about your life and say just have a blog on some random topic like gardening, but when your life is the subject, it's fair game.

I try to just stay AWAY from the mommy blogs, they are out of control. I even consider Pioneer Woman part of that scene which is why I will never, ever post on there. I have never and will never post on any of these blogs. The back and forth "wars" in the Gosselin sphere are child's play compared to some of the stuff I've read about Mommy blogs.

I am watching Part 3 of "The Abolitionists" right now. I stand in awe of the bravery and the flawed history of our country. There is so much I did not know. Was I asleep when this was taught in school?

I would have missed this series if it had not been mentioned here. Thank you.

************************************************

It was a great program. The story of the abolitionists was beautifully told.

I also love that they talked about the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, made up of African American men. Unfortunately, not much has been written about those brave men, and their brave commander, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw.

Anyway, PBS ROCKS!

Um, Deanna is a makeup artist. So yes, I assume her day does involve constant makeup retouches. And probably a heck of a lot of sitting around. Sets really aren't that glamorous, Milo. Especially since Deanna, being in makeup, probably usually has a god awful early call time. No thanks.

Dee, I do remember reading about Mc blogger when the shit hit the fan. I read the MWOP blog.
---------------------------
YES! That was the one. Can you believe that your entry on Catfish somehow led me down a long circuitous route to THAT? I went from Catfish to multiple internet hoaxes....and somehow landed on that (I think that the internet medical hoax area somehow led me there due to this woman's son and the money she collected for some sort of medical condition he had)....and then I got all caught up in the whole story.

Did you come across the blog written by the attorney who specialized in bankruptcy and was explaining the bankruptcy to readers? That was fascinating.

Certain aspects of that whole situation reminded me a bit of the KG saga...esp. in reference to the gratuitous religious references she would include on her blog.....that really seemed to have roped-in some die-hard fans.
You know....the whole "well she writes all these nice religious things so she can't possibly be lying about anything" dynamic.

And prior to that I'd had NO clue that these mommy-bloggers could make SO much money from their blogs. I was amazed.

Oh...and I'm not even done with that particular fall down the magic rabbit hole. That whole topic led me to certain mommy-blogs authored by religious women in the Quiverful movement (which I knew nothing about except it was somehow related to the Duggars)....and now I'm getting an education about that topic.

I believe that it means that the article itself contains exclamation marks, which is a telltale tag of Kate's writing, and that she herself could possibly have written that...a new writing job for Dirty Laundry.

Ahhhh.....NOW I get it. Thanks so much. I'd totally misunderstood.

Now I have to run back up there and read it again and see if it sounds like KG wrote it. :D
Thanks again.

That whole scene just makes me uncomfortable but let us know Dee if you come across more things of note on your rabbit hole journey! Even despite the Fry mommy person needing to be called out on lying, a lot of it does feel like a witch hunt. Even if you can justify it, it still feels uncomfortable. At this point, she's shut down her web site so it's sort of like, maybe time to move on? Mission accomplished?

Milo's not getting any responses from Kate, so it seems that she's trying the next best thing. She definitely does sound desperate.

Yeah, I agree. There developed a level of discomfort...like "enough already". There must be one heck of a lot of competition in the "mommy-blog" world.

I will tell you who I felt bad for....there were multiple mothers who had somehow felt inadequate when reading her blog. That perhaps a mommy-blog can present a picture of a mommy that can be pretty tough to duplicate...or to live on a daily basis. That was another aspect that reminded me of the KG saga....that other women wanted to be able to take care of multiple children, cook beautiful meals. keep a clean house and somehow be able to do what this "role-model" mother could (or seemed to be doing on her blog)....when the reality was that much of it wasn't the true reality. That in reality, the person had lots of help behind the scenes...or maybe wasn't telling the whole truth.

Apparently....this mom rebounded and is selling some sort of diet supplement on twitter and still has a substantial following.
-------------------
Speaking of TV shows....did anyone get to see the "History of Mankind" on the History Channel? I loved it. I wish they'd do another marathon and show the entire series again.

Franky, je suis là, j'étais partie à mes cours de danse en ligne.

This glacial cold is unbelievable, I hope it will let up soon.

I'm surprised that we haven't heard anything about anyone seeing Kate somewhere. The last thing someone mentioned was that they saw the BBB.

Dee yes, I hear you. The fry blogger shut down her blog, declared bankruptcy, got divorced, even had to take a parenting class. All of this was deemed information that should be public. What more do her haters want? Jail time? I mean, come on, mission accomplished here folks.
