'Dance Moms' Season Three: Big changes ahead for production

Lifetime is airing a New Year's Dance Moms marathon all day today, followed by the premiere of Season Three at 9 p.m. EST. Seasons One and Two can be found on Amazon, Netflix, and for a limited time all for free on Lifetime streaming (sweet!).

Love her, hate her, or just don't care, Abby Lee Miller has emerged as one of the most well-known, and polarizing reality T.V. women since Kate Gosselin. (Lifetime is unabashedly advertising Abby as a "maniac" and even Television Without Pity, a site that usually lives for snark like this, said they are taking a break from the show, due to the obvious fake setups and bad acting, and stale formula.)

Dance Moms has been sashaying around for awhile now, but Season Three, which begins tonight, marks the first season that Lifetime's production, based largely in Pennsylvania (although the girls participate in a lot of out of state competitions), will have to comply with Rep. Murt's new child labor laws passed last year. After a brief waiting period, the law will take effect this month, and requires a set teacher on set and limits the hours the girls can work. Previously, one of the moms reported the show films for 70 hours a week.

Will we notice any changes, or will Lifetime still be able to churn out a great guilty pleasure even with safety protections in place? We're hoping the latter. Here's hoping this show can prove that schmalzy,  addicting reality T.V. can still be accomplished without exploiting the living crap out of the children participating.

To check out previous posts we have done on the Dance Moms, click on the link "organizational-ish" Dance Moms link below.

Certainly didn't mean to offend with my suggestion. It just appears to me as a mostly lurker that there are often conversations on all different topics and people often comment that they have a hard job keeping up or getting caught up when gone for a day or two. Organizing it all into forums actually keeps the conversations flowing quite well. I've been on boards like that and it doesn't lose a "community feel", it actually becomes more of a cohesive group.

After watching a few hours of DM, I have many opinions. I'll be as brief as possible (ha).

It's different from JK&8 in the sense that it's only the adults that are made to look bad. The kids are basically only highlighted when they are dancing and they ARE fantastic. But, I don't think 'perverts' would turn the channel. Too bad we can't monitor who watches.

The mothers are dispicable. Kelly just wants a "famous kid" whether or not that kid has talent or not. They all are the typical stage mothers.

Abby has talent and is a great teacher. The kids constantly say, "I didn't want to dissappoint Abby." not their parent, not themselves. Abby's getting paid whether they win or not.

I don't like that getting anything but 1st place is seen as a loss. Not saying everybody should get a trophy but coming in 3rd is not a bad thing.

Yes, it's addicting but I won't be watching. I don't like seeing little girls cry (I think because they are embarassed of their mothers). I don't like seeing hurt children forced to dance. I don't like seeing adults yelling, bickering and being petty bitches. (Stopped watching Housewives years ago too).

The dancing IS incredible and I believe Abby cares more about the kids then some of the mothers who seem to just want a "famous" child, no matter what the cost.

Berk's caution is well-taken. No one can get to your Facebook account if it is private. But, the profile photos are visible on the sock Facebook account I created.

I will let you know when I have solved it -- if it is possible to do.

admin said...Sally that's a nice idea but for me personally I like having everyone together in one thread. I wouldn't have time to moderate this blog and a forum however I wouldn't stop anyone. It would just concern me we could lose the group feel if we start segregating into little pods like that.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I'm not sure exactly how the forum concept works, but at one time I read over at GWOP where topics were organized into various threads and it gets very confusing because not every topic stays without the designated thread and it takes so much time going through six or eight threads. Perhaps some find it much easier to discuss topics of interest that are contained within one thread, but I found it took so much more time having to go back and forth between topics and it was unorganized and lost a community feel. I'm not sure why that blog has become so inactive now, but the organization (or lack of) plus the multiple rules certainly didn't help keep it alive.

lol, Auntie! They should seek employment at the company that puts out the phone book. That would keep them happy 24/7, just matching names, addresses and phone numbers and then calling those people to make sure they are who they say they are. Talk about happy, orgasmic campers! I don't want children on reality TV. Period. I don't care if they have talent or they don't. I don't care if they're amusing, talented, not talented, bratty, sweet, whatever! Children cannot make the decision to be or not to be on TV if they have greedy parents, producers and directors behind it.

It's hypocritical to put Kate in one category and put Dance Moms in another because you enjoy watching the Dance Mom's kids dance.

It's been mentioned a thousand times on this blog about how disgusted we are with Kate and her unconcern with what kind of people she is exposing her children to. The same goes for the dancing kids.

I'm seriously wondering what's happening to this blog if the general opinion is, is that Kate is a horrible, child pimping, exploitive mother but the Dance Mom's show is OK.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think in a perfect world reality tv would never include kids. That's not likely to happen. So when I see a show that focuses more on the adults and isn't nearly as invasive to the kids as others are it doesn't bother me as much. Fido explained it better than I can. Also to me Abby's teaching style is a completely separate issue. I hate it but that's a different issue than the filming issue. I guess I approach each show with an open mind. Little people doesn't bother me that much not does DMs. But Honey Boo Boo I refuse to watch, Sister Wives is way too invasive too. I draw the line there. Real Housewives tends to be more in the former category for me personally because although kids are around the focus isn't on them. Anyway long story short yeah no kids ever on tv is best but if laws and standards can be crafted and shows produced in such a way the damage is minimized I am glad for it.

Has anyone here ever used a product called Yogatoes?

Check it out at yogatoes.com. They look like pedicure spacers and are supposed to help your feet realign after wearing heels, etc.

I'm thinking of getting a pair and wonder if you've used them if you think they are worth the $40?

I hate to get things online without reviews, but am also skeptical about online reviews. I met a fellow a couple of years ago whose job it was to write positive comments on product sites and negative reviews on competitor sites. Really. True story....

And no, he hadn't really used the product. He was a paid shill. GAACCKKKKK

He seemed to be so proud of 'getting one over on the public' and getting paid to do it...

But then again, he may have been pulling my leg. Who knows, right?

If you've used yogatoes or anything like them, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I don't think that it has anything to do with Kate Gosselin, Jon Gosselin, or the kids. At one time it may have, but it's morphed into something more than that - these are annoying immature fans who get their jollies by "outing" people...and for what purpose? Their intentions are sinister, but the motive behind all of this still is foggy. Perhaps it's not rocket science, though. It could be that the few sheeple who engage in these activities have personality disorders, are socially inept and this is their way of saying, "Hey, this is one thing I can control. I have the power to do this." It's kind of like anorexia.

Their real lives must therefore, in a word, SUCK.

As a long time reader and sporadic poster of this blog, I sadly must say that I agree with this post. I too find it a double standard to accept these young girls exploitation on Dance Moms while condemning Kate for putting her children on TV. No child on TV has privacy and anything close to a normal childhood. The clips I have seen from Dance Moms show girls in anguish, crying over their performances.
I am afraid I am done with this blog. I simply don't understand what the point is of it anymore. If the Gosselin 8 could dance, would their appearance on Dance Moms be met with approval?

oh...and to the Lancaster Mom whose children go to the school...I'm not slamming you and your choices. I just find it rather amusing that Kate makes the school out to be better than any other school when there are some good schools locally that are more affordable...especially for one who is NOT working.

I have a hard time dealing with absolutes. I like looking at each thing on a case by case basis instead of hard and fast rules. The Farmer's Wife is another show featuring children on the spectrum of reality T.V. That was a beautiful portrait and I don't believe those kids were exploited anywhere close to the Gosselins. But if we follow the rule no kids on reality T.V., that means no Farmer's Wife, and that's a shame in my opinion. But, that said, that would be perfectly reasonable opinion, given what's happened to kids on reality T.V. Burned once fear the fire I imagine for many.

I think the Bilboard advertising indicates hard times. I can imagine many families can't afford private school these days. If only they knew all they had to do was grift it!

An ex-Dance Mom said...

The clips I have seen from Dance Moms show girls in anguish, crying over their performances.

MMMMM

Yeah but the girls are in anguish and crying anyway. It's not nice to exploit them as they go through this strange world of professional dance but there is a distinction here some of you just don't get for some reason. I haven't seen anyone say they see nothing wrong with this show or think what is being done to the kids is just fine and dandy. People are just doing some comparing and contrasting of its good and bad points. That is a sign of an intelligent blog not sheeple who deal in as was so well put, "absolutes."

I like Dance Moms. I recall seeing an interview of the kids one day where they were talking about how certain parts of the show are fake. I think they were talking about how she does the pyramid...how the moms argue.

Getting to that level in dancing doesn't come from hugs and kisses.

Working Woman said...

I don't think anybody is arguing that Dance Moms is exploitive. It sounds like, in addition to that, it is catty and immature.

But, maybe some posters are more comfortable with that show then they were with Kate's show, and that's their right. I don't personally care to watch the Dance Moms, doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but people are affected by things differently and that's that.

Many posters today have mentioned that many aspects of the show bothers them but have also mentioned some things that are actually worthy of television, like the creative dance routines. Kate's show had no redeeming qualities and was all about pimping out the kids for cash.

True, admin. I was in the Philly area last weekend, and there's a very attractive billboard advertising the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school. It's one of those high tech billboards that switches graphics...very nicely done, but nevertheless it advertises a university that really doesn't need promoting.

Reading comprehension problems. Schmaltzy TV exists. People who want to make it exist. If Rep Murt's laws prove you can still make what they want without exploiting the crap out of kids, yes I'm rooting for that. It's NOT going away. Why not protect kids if it's not going away? It's not realistic to hope for it to go away or we wouldn't need Murt's laws in the first place lol.

TweedleDe 59,

I probably misspoke... it does sort of realign the toes but it really is supposed to be sort of a 'relaxing' tool for the feet and toes. By spreading the toes it puts some traction on the muscles and is sort of a passive massage for toes/feet.

While you are wearing them (usually it says about 10-20 minutes) you move your foot around, bend your toes, etc. The foot/toe muscles are supposed to get a 'refeshing workout'.

All their site comments are positive and glowing..... hmmmm

Well, I ordered the Yogatoes... sucker, that's me. I'll let you all know how they work.

Could be the newest thing, dancing on the veranda on our yogatoes, sipping and chatting!!!

The reason I did is that I'm flirting with the beginnings of a mortons neuroma on my right foot, toes 3/4. Using the yogatoes as a wedge will hopefully provide some relief from the alignment pressure on the neuroma.

Any runners here who have this problem? It's looking to be a bitch if I can't get it solved with traction/stretching/icing..... next step would be shots into foot, then surgery. So $40 now is cheaper and less painful than shots or surgery.

Anything to try to avoid that!

Ugh, ugh, ugh. I'd be limping on crutches at our IRL meeting. I guess you'd know me then, ha ha.

Getting old(er) is not for the faint of heart, as my dear FIL used to say. I miss him.

I went ahead and left my Yogatoes order in place, mainly because they come in sizes. The one on footsmart is one size fits all. I wear size 6 and have short toes so I think the lest expensive footsmart wouldn't fit me.

The story of my life - short wide feet, expensive shoes are a must. No one has wide widths without charging an arm and a leg for them.

I really need to move to a tropical island and go barefoot all the time.

LOL - Auntie Ann, what would be the charge for the arrest? Would anyone here come argue our case for us?

Well wait, we could insist on Lindsay Lohan justice system - arrested at 11:00 PM, out by 11:18... love the legal system she has out there in CA!!!

I watch Dance Mom's. I don't agree with everything Abby says...but she is the one trying to make the kids the best they can be.These are not just some random kids thrown into the spotlight. These are children who work their butts off trying to find a nitch in the careers they are looking for.

I think the mothers are the biggest issues on the show.Mothers looking to find the fame they could never get on their own. So they are using their kids to make money...meet and greets...jewelry lines...making the kids smile and take pictures with strangers, ect. Abby isn't into that...she is what she is...a dance teacher...she pushes the kids to do their very best...thats her job...not to coddle them.
Abby was right...the time taken off to do all this other stuff hindered their development.Abby's Job is to make the kids the best she can...just like any other profession...you want to skate...you skate..you want to be the best swimmer you swim...
You don't slack off to make money so momma can get a make over.

I do believe the kids believe in what Abby is saying. She is trying to make the most of them...to extend the talent some of them have.
Like most successful talents...you have to give your all...It's a 24/7 job.
Also sorry to say...if a kid do sent want to follow it through,,,theres another 100 who will. Sadly its the kids mom holding them back because they didn't what they wanted.

Some of these kids have a gift...they shouldn't be held back b/c mom is a bitch and wants the spot light.
Unlike kate...the kids from Dance Moms have some real talent and will go far with Abbys direction. Abby wont give into the bs of the moms just like kate. Good for her and good for the kids!

___

FW was a documentary, not a reality show. There is a big difference, to me anyway, between the two. The FW girls were shown "as they are" no makeup, costume, scripting, lines, hit your marks, fake situations to deal with. So they have no fake persona to live up to.

And contrast the with that Wife Swap show where the girl sued the production company because they "scripted" her to look like a spoiled brat.

I think another issue is that people *believe* reality tv shows are real. That the cameras are really just following people along during their regular activities, that all those housewives were best friends before the shows began, etc.

Or.... so it seemed.
I wonder if Jeff takes any responsibility for losing as it related to his demeanor. He came across as smug a lot of the time and I wonder if the jury was insulted or put off by his countenance at times.

I watch Hell's Kitchen but the thrill is gone. Same ol' every season.

I understand the guilty pleasure thing. Every once in a while I do what I swore I wouldn't and watch Sister Wives. They are going the way of J&K+8/K+8...travelling in RV's, buying expensive homes, throwing a little tension in among the wives. It's so predictable. Meri cries about everything, Kody sits in the middle like an idiot with a blank look on his face, yaps about wanting more kids, yet I haven't seen him a lift a finger to help out with anything. Kate in a beard?
_________________________________________
I watched the 1st season of Sister Wives, a few of season 2, and now I cannot stomach the show. It is horrible. The kids obviously have no interest in being on tv and I think they resent the show because the publicity caused the uprooting of their family from Utah to Las Vegas. The parents, meaning Kody, only have their own interests in mind- he is so self-centered. What they did was not the best for their family. It's like the one wife, Christine, I think, says, the family is torn apart. SHe is living like a single parent. That show has noting left to offer. I can't see it lasting much longer either, does it really still get ratings? Must be the train wreck value like K+8.

The filming took place shortly after the Lincoln production completed, so many of the same extras worked both productions, and similar locations were used. it looks very interesting.
Some friends saw the Lincoln movie and were bored. Not us! It made us go home and start researching some of the real people portrayed in the film.
I do know several people who were extras in Lincoln. They all say Steven Spielberg was very nice, never raised his voice even when people flubbed lines, and was really focused on making this film authentic with lots of period detail.

Auntie Ann, I heard not such great things about Liz & Dick, was it really that bad?
=====
Awful doesn't quite describe it. In the few minutes I did watch, Lindsay Lohan sounded like she'd just drank a bottle of whiskey and smoked a box of cigars, which she probably did. Her voice sounds like the demon from The Exorcist. Liz's voice always sounded almost childlike to me. She flitted through her lines as if she was in a hurry to get off the set and back to the party or her probation officer, whichever comes first. I doubt she did a character study of Elizabeth Taylor. I doubt she even knows who Elizabeth Taylor was.
That said the actor playing Richard Burton wasn't too bad. If he had had a real actor playing opposite him the movie might have worked a little better. I don't know why they picked LL.
I surfed away after 20 minutes, so my assessment might not be a fair one. Not only that but I was never a big fan of Liz or Dick which doesn't help either.

If they can keep the show alive for another season they're going to have to come up with something more than Meri crying over every little thing. I think Christine is ready to call it quits and Janelle has about had it too.

Maybe Robin will end up sharing him with just Meri. I get the impression she'd like to have Kody all to herself though.

The blog imploded? When?

Someone's jellus.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

You hit on one of the biggest reasons Sister Wives bugs me. They have uprooted their children's entire lives because of their reality show. The family didn't seem that happy in Vegas last I saw the show. One of the older boys even seemed depressed and angry and I worried a lot for him. A reality show should not change how you live your life, especially a child's. I also like how one of the girls stood up to Cody about filming church and told him to buzz off, church was for worshiping God and cameras should not be there. Good for her. I am having a hard time seeing how giving the label documentary to something makes it not a reality show. FW was a family, allegedly having their real lives filmed, just like Sister Wives, Jon and Kate, and all the other family reality shows. Technically, the first couple Jon and Kate specials were labeled documentaries. It didn't make it so. It was labeled a documentary because that makes it sound more sophisticated. On the spectrum of reality shows, however, they were definitely most true to the family's real life, didn't corrupt things by paying them, didn't appear to stage things, it was really what a reality show can and should be.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Auntie Anne also I wish they would just come out and say they are making a bundle from the show. They live a certain lifestyle and yet no one is ever shown actually WORKING.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Auntie Anne yes where were you, the blog "imploded" yesterday. LOL.

There are a couple people out there who look for the tiniest perceived crack and then as soon as they think they see it jump all over here about how the blog imploded, has gone down the tubes, it's all over with, what a world what a world!

....The more I think about this, filming kids who are not acting is filming kids. I don't think productions should be able to hide behind the protection of a "documentary" and suddenly our guard goes down. As the old annoying saying goes, it is what it is. Arguably, showing the FW so poor and struggling might have been very embarrassing and damaging to the three girls. Personally I don't take issue with FW, but if we are singling it out as nothing wrong with it, then that aligns exactly with what my original point is, that each project should be assessed on a case by case basis.

The blog imploded? When?

Someone's jellus.

4444444444

The word 'imploded' might be a tad much for some. Lord knows, Kate and her fans have never had much of an acquaintance with the English language. "Imploded" is probably in the same category with sediments, traditions, and the hundreds of other words Ms Perfect English And Speller has no clue about.

Now here's a word: Metamorphosis. That is what this blog is doing because housewife Katie Irene Gosselin is a mentally ill child abuser in PA and thank God in His heaven that her public antics bore us now. But this blog has been so strong, the people here are developing new ways of solidfying personal friendships. Because we have a lot more in common than merely our disgust of a hand flapping, trampy housewife in PA.

OT: For history buffs, and folks who enjoyed Lincoln, there is a documentary/ docu drama on PBS on January 8, 15, & 22, The Abolitionists about the fight to abolish slavery. much of it was filmed in Virginia.

Thanks for the reminder, JoyInVirginia :o)

I'm looking forward to seeing it!

In that vein, I just finished watching something about Thomas Jefferson's Bible. I have it on The Smithsonian Channel. I had no clue, had never heard of this! History buffs and preservationists might enjoy this, but this is a true documentary, so caffiene up ahead of viewing!

I think the difference between the Farmer's Wife and Jon & Kate + 8 and Sister Wives are the producers. The producer of FW has integrity. I think I read that he had to restrain himself from helping out Juanita and Darrel at times. He was there to document the struggles that a family farm encounters, not to make them into cash cows. Figure 8 was the opposite. They might have started out with good intentions to document life with two sets of multiples, but once they discovered it was a ratings magnet they had to invent storylines to keep it going. With TLC it's all about money and nothing about integrity.

I think Janelle once said that she was the one with the job that brought in the most money and that she was the one who paid the bills. Meri works/ed somewhere. Christine's job was to be the nanny mommy to all the kids while the other 2 mothers worked. I have no idea about Kody or Robyn, but I read somewhere that Kody had a career of some sort, at least before the show started.

thanks Working Woman! And to all who wished me Happy Birthday, thank you so much! I really have been busy for the holidays this year, so I can either read here, or post, I hadnt been able to make time to do both! LOL! But everything is back to normal now, and I am glad about that! My tree stays up till Orthodox Christmas (HunnyBunny's dad was Russian Orthodox) so I have a few more days before the boxes invade my living room again.

I refuse to watch any reality shows with kids on them. But I might go take a peek at Liz and Dick now. hehe

Still wanna tease your tweeties and tell them that you "love" them?

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

I watched "Stalked: Someone's Watching" last night...topic was Idol Worship, stalking of an American Idol contestant. Kate has no idea that she's playing with fire when she tells her fans she loves them and invites them to have coffee with her and to go shopping.

Just reading some of the questions/comments on Twitter should send out red flags to her, particularly one who tweeted crude, vile comments last night. Obviously she knows these people make up her fan base, but does nothing to make her Twitter private.

fidosmommy said...

I think Auntie Ann is right. The producers of a documentary don't tell the subjects what to say or how to say it, they just film things as they happen. That's what Kate wanted her audience to believe about her shows, but we know there were retakes, promises of candy for saying lines, etc. Kate needed MORE editing to
keep up with her dream of a nice family show that just filmed the kids as they played.

I don't think I'll ever understand the desire to 'out' people based on a silly argument that has not consequence in any of our lives.

Whether the sheep want to admit this or not, the outing started with them. They were the first to start finding mods on a blog they didn't care for. I was saw a message written by one of them where she said she felt "SAFER" knowing where a particular mod lived and worked. (this mod worked and lived in a LARGE city!) SAFER? Why all the drama and contrived "danger"?

There are a couple people out there who look for the tiniest perceived crack and then as soon as they think they see it jump all over here about how the blog imploded, has gone down the tubes, it's all over with, what a world what a world!

Auntie Anne I have a feeling that's why Jen Stocks and others left. It wasn't the show she had helped create anymore. Even Em Tanner said Kate lost her way.

I think it started off as a pure documentary, and rapidly descended into something else. If that were my baby, my project, and it changed from quality T.V. to contrived crap, I'd want to run for the hills.

Oh yeah, Cody did have a job in Utah, so did Janelle. What does he do now? Great question. Plus he said Utah dropped their case against them, so why dont they move back?? He said their roots are there, their community is there, their church- it would be the BEST choice for the kids and the family. Yeah, I dont like that show. He said he wanted to show plural marriage to America, to break the negative stereotypes, but I think he is causing more harm than good. He is not a good spokeperson, not likeable or even tolerable. He needs to stop the show now if that was, indeed, his goal. But, like you guys have said, he's another Kate in the making.

I'm sorry but if you are a polygamist you're just torturing yourself not living there. That is so selfish and unfair on those kids.

I saw some promo with a bunch of new houses being built. Maybe TLC is paying for it? Is THAT why they won't move back? Sick.

From the episodes I've seen he is a very, very selfish and egotistical man. Some of the wives, well, like maybe two of them, seems very down to earth and normal and I don't know how they STAND him. I wouldn't say he's a narcissist but he is very self absorbed and is perfectly willing to hurt the kids for the end result because he's right.

I remember there was an episode where they interviewed some of his childhood friends and they were all basically like, yeah he's a fame whore always has been. Yikes.

Kody and the wives said they still don't own the houses. It's insane. Why are they trying to buy four huge homes? I gather TLC isn't footing the bill for the houses the same way they didn't for Jon and Kate, just employing them so the mortgages can be approved. What's going to happen to that family with all those kids when the show gets dropped? Can't they see TLC is a souless entity?

Cody strikes me as a man very out of touch with his own children. He's left the actual child rearing and bonding to the women and just doesn't seem all that involved in the day to day, and doesn't seem to really know or appreciate what a child's real needs are.

He makes the big decisions from this throne while the wives actually do the nitty gritty.

Ugh, I couldn't stand being part of that.

One of the threads is a sheeple is saying why do we go after Kate and not the Dance Moms, they are both exploiting their children.

Okay, Mr/Ms Sheeple, people on this and other blogs have done something about Kate exploiting her children. Laws are in place in Pennsylvania, sponsors where contacted, Paul Peterson was contacted, etc. We didn't just sit on our laurels and watch this continue to happen. We took action. Are things perfect, heck no. But we took steps. What have you done? What are you doing to bring awareness to the Dance Moms filming (exploiting) the children. Are you turning off your TV when Dance Moms come on? Switching the channel? Telling people about what you see?

Some people have done their job and brought awareness and laws regarding the Gosselin children. Now its your turn. What are you going to do? Continue to debate how people on this blog go after Kate but give Dance Moms a pass. How do you know we give DMs a pass?

Mr/Ms Sheeple: stop complaining and start doing.

Dwindle, True Crime -- the dry and detailed kind? One of the best is Fatal Vision by Joe McGinnis. That is the Green Beret convicted of killing his family. Small Sacrifices by Anne Rule (recently discussed here) is chilling.

These are two crimes still talked about on the ID channel.

I am sure Readerlady will pop up with more for you.

I watched a portion of Liz and Dick. It was horrible. Even if your expectations of a Lifetime movie are set low -- this one did not clear the hurdle. LL was nearly unwatchable.

Sounds exactly like Kate. TLC loves the conflict, figures it draws in viewers that watch because they think that he is annoying. Another train wreck in the making. If he was a nice, caring family man it would be boring.

I love that we are discussing quality TV viewing options such as those on PBS. The more I watch those shows the more I can't stand the junk.

And on a Kate note, if she really does have the family on a vacation, funny how there are no photos on Radar, etc. My, how things have changed, thank goodness. A few years ago we would all be seeing photos all over the place from those pesky P-people.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Future shows like Damce Moms are exactly why we went after Kate. So future shows would be protected. Now our efforts are paying off with much better protections in place. Dance moms is the fruits of our labor. They are going to have to make huge changes and you can bet they are scrambling right now.

Also no one is giving other shows a pass. Laws are in place now in my opinionwe accomplished something tremendous and should be proud. I'm not going to wage a campaign to end all reality tv because that's not realistic. We waged a campaign to protect not to end. We WON. It's over. I have no problem if people want to go further but for me that's not something I find productive so I'm stopping here at Murts law. All the power to those with the energy to go further.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

You know if anything waging some kind of campaign to end everything could be counterproductive. No state is willing to do that. But if we say look here at the good protections in PA and they're still managing to make good TV, the argument see you too can put protections in place and strike that balance, just got a whole lot stronger. I believe in strategy and being realistic. Just my opinion.

I am a true crime lover, and I am very partial to Ann Rule's books. She is a fabulous writer and of course we all talked about Small Sacrifices, but she has tons of other, lesser known books that were great.

I had the honor of meeting Ann in Delaware, where I attended a book signing for her book about Thomas Capano and Ann Marie Fahey. She was lovely and gracious.

And when you stop to think about it, 2012 is a ridiculously late date in time for protecting children from irresponsible production companies and parents who knew it was wrong in the first place. But they kept it up until laws had to be passed to put a stop to the abuse.

It's a shame people have to be forced into using common sense, but money seems to cloud all reasoning. Greed overcomes good judgement.
