Kate posts up-close photo of Mady's legs

The up close and personal picture of Mady trying on Kate's heels sparked outrage from the moment Kate put it on her Twitter account, and now the poor child is getting attention for it on Radaronline and The Daily Mail.

The New York Times explored the issue of posting children's photos online in this revealing article from 2009. A must read.

Popular Mommy blogger Eve Vawter also wrote an excellent article about the issue on Mommyish.com, quoted in part here. We like her common sense:

"Kids try on their mom’s shoes. This happens every hour of every day in every house with kids. I did it, you did it, our kids have done it. There is nothing wrong with that. But posting a picture on the internet, of your 11-year-old’s bare legs, her toenails pedicured and painted, clad in peep-toe satin and glitter heels, it’s just plain creepy. Kate Gosselin doesn’t know every single one of her Twitter followers personally. She doesn’t know who is glancing at the photograph and saying “Cute, my kids did that” or who is uploading the photograph to some terrible child exploitation website. And by posting this picture, she is inadvertently sexualizing her 11-year-old kid.

It can be argued that child sex abusers can find any photograph of a kid “sexy.” That even the most innocent picture of a kid fully dressed and standing there can be exploited by child predators for nefarious purposes. And all though I agree there is nothing wrong with a kid trying on her mom’s high heels, looking at the picture of Mady it’s obvious to me that posting it on the internet was a bad idea. It isn’t a picture of a kid being silly and playing dress-up, it looks like a slightly menacing sexualized photograph of a girl standing, her legs apart, teetering helplessly on too-big heels in a darkened room. And Kate Gosselin didn’t need to post it, but I suppose it can also be argued that Kate Gosselin uses any excuse to exploit any of her eight children for attention and publicity, whether good or bad, to feed her gaping maw of a fame hole."

It's all hype, from both sides. You have to be really careful about the studies you read, who is publishing. I follow a site by scientists, medical doctors, who are not paid or backed by anyone, including Monsanto and they give the skinny on this subject. GMO food debate- undecided yet, organic food- avoid dirty dozen if you can, otherwise meh, and antibiotics, yeah try and avoid that in your food.

My son is a comptroller on a large farm that grows GMO corn. I fussed and said I wouldn't eat any fresh corn from there. He laughed, and said we all have been eating it for years now..mainly in the form of corn fructose that is in about anything you buy these days.

Winsome,
yeah, apparently corn is in just about all our food. I had no idea. I do try eat 'from the perimeter' of the grocery store and make meals from scratch, but it's still hard to avoid. I even changed my dog's food. LOL. But a little digging goes a long way and not all GMO is evil. Cuties (those little oranges) are awesome! :)

"What's it in for the church then? Increased attendance? A cut?"

Let me preface this by saying that I am not trying to be argumentative, hateful, difficult, holier-than-thou, or any other number of unkind adjectives.

As a Christian myself, I have been in church my entire 47 years (And.... now you folks know I'm old, LOL), and as a military wife, we have been to many, many churches across the U.S. and in other countries as well. While I am sure there are unscrupulous "churches" out there whose only desires are to make a buck or promote themselves, I have to think that the vast majority of the churches simply desire to serve the Lord and the spiritual needs of their congregation, while reaching out to others in service and in love. At the least, I can say this is definitely the case with the churches I have been exposed to in my lifetime.

There doesn't have to be anything in it for the church. An agenda, if you will. More than likely, the vast majority of the churches that brought in Jon & Kate did so as a way to uplift their congregation and community. Our church has, I guess what you would call a motto, of striving to reach out across the aisle, across the community, and across the world. No, in our church we don't pay people to come in to speak to others, but I would be willing to bet that most of the churches that did so thought they were bringing in a young, Christian couple to speak about how the Lord was working in a difficult and unusual situation. And that is the exact same thing that I thought I was tuning in to watch on J&K+8. Unfortunately, that proved not to be the case.

When it comes to J&K, we were wrong, very wrong.

I should probably stay in my nice, dark corner and be quiet......

I remember that the Today Show Kate did in Oct 2009 when she was crying she couldn't pay her bills was the same time Vanity Fair was writing an article about her and the reporter was in Kate's hotel room after that show. I think it was mentioned here before in another thread.

Where Kate was saying "I want Nobu, I want Nobu! I want sushi!" And they told her "it might not look good for her to be out enjoying herself at a hot spot."

I hadn't read that article in awhile and wanted to mention a couple things that popped out at me. When they were talking about Figure 8 doing one of the first specials, they described Jon and Kate as "struggling to make ends meet". And Kate said "Life was so stinking difficult". And all I could think when I read that was "gee Kate, your kids will be happy to read that someday and see how they made YOUR life so 'stinking difficult'."

Kate also talked about doing her second stint at co-hosting The View and said "it comes to me very easily when I'm doing TV". BHAHAHAHAHA!! Sure Kate!

No way! Excellent points.

Well, my two doggies are back after a long day at the vet. My old bichon guy tolerated being sedated and 2 more teeth removed. Old fart. A couple lab values were slightly off, but he's due for a certain test for Cushing's disease and we'll see if his meds have to be changed.
He's tired and whimpering and by my side on the couch.
Black lab gal had her ultrasound and there were virtually no changes in her liver/spleen spots, so we're breathing easier.
Thanks for all your support!

I'm pretty sure that Kate's purse full of bills came later and this performance was when they'd just split up, cheating rumors were rampant, Jon became an alien and Kate used her wedding rings to f*ck with the tabloids.
Is she wearing the rings (for the kids of course), are the rings gone?
Master of manipulation, I'll give her that.
After crying crocodile tears and dabbing her dry face, pausing for still photos with a big old pregnant boohoo pause and grimacing appropriately, she left her tears on the Today Show set and was perky, happy and raring to go once back in her suite on Central Park.
She wanted Nobu but had to settle for a photo op at FAO Schwartz, where she stepped on a little boy and kept on walking like he was gum on her shoe.
The Vanity Fair article is a must read.
Kate was very famous at the moment.
"At the moment??!!", she fussed, finding it impossible to believe that some day she'd be yesterday's news.

Tucker's Mom - Your name always brings a smile because that is the name of my precious yorkie. So glad everything went well at the vet today. Wonderful news!

I've got a little one-year-old male parakeet named Triscuit, myself. I've worked for a vet who specialized in birds, but this is the first one I have personally owned. I never cease to be amazed at how intelligent and interactive they are. Our little guy is just hysterical. He talks like crazy, nibbles on my fingernails, and plays chase with our dog. My favorite thing is when he jumps onto the dogs food bowl and eats with him. My sweet Tucker just looks at me in panic as if to say, "Mom, do you see this?? Could you help me here please!!!" I simply cannot imagine a home without pets - the joy and love they bring. I can only imagine the mischief the other poster (sorry, can't remeber who it was) with the African Grey get's into!

Angie - I am so sorry about the loss of your kitty this week. Our fur babies aren't just pets, they are our family, and it hurts so much to lose them. Please know that we are all keeping you in our hearts.

And tomorrow its gonna be a topday too, my youngest kid gets her wisdom teeth removed so that means prob no sunkissed run either, ready to battle unicorns and butterflies tough, cause those nasty little critters pestered her after she got her tonsils removed last year. Ill be filming the event just to make those memories you know, but we'll keep the results private + for family use only :-) Oh I did cook a meal from scratch too tonight, like I do any other night, but then I dont have 8! kids (just 5) and didnt throw up all my pregnancies either, so were just lucky to be mediocre.

I haven't had a bird for a pet since I was a kid, but when I was growing up, we had birds, dogs, cats, fish and a turtle named Myrtle that my mom rescued from the middle of the road and brought home to live in our basement. My mom was a sucker for anything furred or feathered, finned or scaled (except lizards. I brought home a chameleon once and she nearly freaked out, LOL) and my dad was almost as bad. When I was a teenager, we had a parakeet named Perky who talked up a storm. My mom got the idea to teach him to say "Happy Birthday _____ ___" to surprise my dad on his birthday. She worked and worked at it, but Perky just wouldn't say it. She finally gave up about a week before Dad's birthday. On the morning of the big day, Dad walked into the kitchen for breakfast and Perky piped up "Happy Birthday ______ ___". Mom about fell over!

Tucker's Mom - believe me, it wasn't instantaneous! My little yorkie, Tucker, just turned 9 last week, so I was pretty worried. Since yorkies were bred to kill rats and other quickly-scurrying varmints, I took it reallyyyy slowly over the course of a year. Now, I trust them together completely. My only worry is that sometimes Tucker uses his little paw when he tries to play with Triscuit and I am afraid that he might accidently squish or scratch Triscuit.

Readerlady - I'm like your mom, I'll keep any critter I can get a hold of - except snakes. What a great story about Perky - he must have been a hoot!

AuntieAnn - Thanks for your post - I thought the number of words and chapters seemed different, but I wasn't sure.

AggieMom - Love the stories about your grey - what a precious tribute to your mom's husband!

Funny Bird Story Too - One of the veterinarians at the animal hospital I worked at, the one specializing in birds, held a Christmas party for us all one year. They had a yellow nape named Hosea that had been willed to the hospital that had a 200+ word vocabulary. At the Christmas party, one of our veterinary technicians walked by Hosea's cage and said "hi" to him, and Hosea reached out and bit her. When she quickly jerked back and said "ouch", Hosea said, "Did that hurt?" Dumbfounded, the technician replied, "Yes, yes it did." And Hosea the often nasty yellow nape answered, "Well good! Ha, ha, ha ha!"

Um, Eileen? Jon was so uncomfortable doing your show he had to put up a "no cameras" sign on his gate. Then you sued the pants off him. In no way shape or form are your subjects not at your complete mercy.

I can sniff this woman's writing style out from a mile away.

Also, it sounds exactly like the kinds of emails Em Tanner said she would get from her. She really did have no shame.

It looks like a letter where you could easily plus in whatever company name you needed to suit your purposes. And how dare she offer up her children as commodities. For god sake they were infants!!

Which reminds me remember her tweet denying they are commodities? Kate, in 1,000 words or less please explain why this email doesn't prove just that?

Well, I can't say that I'm shocked.

I wonder what other companies she tried to shake down, or prostitute her kids to?

I once had a friend who constantly lied about things. Inevitably she would slip up and forget that she had told a lie and the story would change. It always caught up to her. You'd have to be a genius to keep all those thoughts and details in check. When Kate was constantly lying (like crying poor and the Nobu incident), she couldn't keep up with her stories. If she was acting on TV like she was broke, she should have stayed in character to pull off that stunt. But she couldn't remember that she had to stay in character. Just goes to show you she would make a terrible actress.

HA!!!!!!

Love the way kart said in her letter that Kelly at the Gymboree store told her to call for freebies. kart, proper and reticent, held onto the customer service number for a while (I bet for about 1 day), but then Kelly finally made her call to beg for freebies.

All Kelly's fault, y'all!

I wonder how Kelly will feel when she sees her name in lights as the grifter's guide.

Well I'm just heartbroken that it appears Kate was intitially looking in the $2M range and had to settle for $1.2M. Talk about letdowns.

And silly TLC for wanting America's Favorite Dysfunctional Family to look "normal" To look relateable to the everyman. It's a good thing Kate knew better and was confident that buying a mansion and going on expensive trip after expensive trip would blow those ratings through the roof and keep R show on teevee forevah ;)

LOL I know right. Well in any case you too can learn to sniff her out too.

First the exclamation points of course. And second look for undertones like "who me?" and "oh my I'm just sputtering along here being a good mom oh oops did you just give me 10 grand oh my thanks!", "how would oyu like to exploit my kids today??". Stuff like that.

Oh I saw good ole Kate Coyne from People magazine (of, Kate ain't so bad fame) spent about two hours on 20/20 the other night being the expert on every TV show known to man. My God that woman is quite the piece of work. I like in the old days where they would interview real fans like that uber fan of Betwitched who even wrote a book. I much prefer to listen to him than Kate Coyne.

Speaking of books, just publish this darn Gosselin book already and stop with the games. If he's not afraid to post stuff like this on the web site I don't understand what the difference is to publishing a book.

Remember Kate? There was very little splainin' about the $1.2M house. TLC shot it in the tightest angles and showed none of the extravagance of it until the intital hubbub died down.

I fondly remember how the sheeple said we were dirty liars for even insinuating Jon & Kate would make such a purchase. We were over the line! Libel! They don't have the money for a house like that! Then when the house purchase was confirmed, the sheeple loved it and said the kids deserved it. Sigh.

Right now if Marty Singer is any kind of a good lawyer he will tell Kate that if this is all true she really needs to just stop wasting her money on him because frankly there's nothing he can do.

She should have just let the book be published and not put up a fuss and it would have faded away in short order. Now it's become this huge deal. Typical.

If/when this book does come out, it won't be pretty in the konpound. I hope for the kids sake, they are will Jon for a few weeks.

It will also be interesting to see if ANY tv show offers her an interview, AND IF THEY DO, will they try the old softball questions?

Oh, she won't care if this is true and a huge deal - because she'll think it's more attention on her that she can try to turn into the continued desperation for "martyred mother" role. She's probably got her bags packed for the big denial tour already.

Yes, the phone number in that email grift is available as public info. Can see where she/they lived and the addresses back to at least 1998 (didn't they live together before marriage for a time, or something like that?)

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think when something is purely, truly absolutely correct Kate often acs like she hasn't even heard the news. This happened with the Lane contract story. No response. This also happened with the 50-50 story. No response for months until her sheeple practically forced her to respond and even then she snapped at them to DROP IT. LOL. I think this is because when things are more like 60 to 70% true she feels more comfortable telling her lies and half truths. Faced with cold hard facts she can't handle it.

So for those reasons I will predict that she will completely ignore this book.

This would be a good time to remind everyone that Kate, according to the Reading Eagle, contacted them directly FIRST. It's not like the Reading Eagle sought her out for a series, she came to them.

This woman has a pattern, and it's that she contacts people for freebies, money and gigs, not the innocent other way around she tries to pretend. She'd have a lot more credibility if she would just admit it. She used her situation to make bank. Just say it.

Remember her, Oh my this beach house in Alabama just randomly contacted us! Does ANYONE believe that? She probably pulled out her form letter and plugged in the name of every beach house up and down the East Coast until one bit. She conveniently leaves out how she contacted them first.

Tamara, fraud is fraud. If the people who donated were naive enough to be duped but were led to believe that the kids were in need, then yes, this is fraud and it is a crime. There have been cases reported where parents set up internet scams to solicit money for a child who was terminally ill. It is a scam and yes, it is illegal.

"But we have proof that they only accepted cash offerings. Why?"

*******************

Because checks are a pain in the neck...because checks bounce. It could very well be true that hiding donations from the IRS could have been one reason for asking for cash only, but I'm not going to state it as fact because we didn't see the copy of the donations that were reported to the IRS.

It will be interesting to see if copies of that filing are available and exactly what was reported as cash donations and how they handled all of the freebies that they allegedly collected.

People are busted quite frequently for misrepresenting their situation and taking good people's money.

I just found this story from the other day:

"EL PASO — It's a confession that most didn't see coming. Angie Gomez pleaded guilty Wednesday to taking $17,000 in public donations for her Achieve the Dream Foundation. It's a foundation based on her having leukemia, which is a disease she never had."

I don't blame the people who gave Angie Gomez money. Most people assume when you're helping out someone with cancer that they really have cancer. Think about it, how many people have you known afflicted with this horrible disease that you "vetted"? Of course not, most people wouldn't dream of doing that.

So no I don't think good people who give to charities are "stupid." Unless there are major red flags, which at the time this happened, there really wasn't unless you dug really, really deep.

In any case, fraud is fraud, whether or not the victims were stupid, and shouldn't the stupid people be the people we protect most of all anyway?

Maybe a better solution is for Kate and Jon to add up every penny they ever received from these churches and make a matching donation to a favorite charity.

I reviewed some documents for an attorney once as part of case I worked, and was privy to how forensic accountants work.

If someone scammed cash and deposited the haul into a bank account and didn't report to IRS, they're caught.

If they scammed some cash, and kept cash at home to spend on groceries, gas, etc to avoid paper trail, then the forensic accountants will see that certain weeks, 'there is no check, debit or charge for groceries'.

So, Ms. Fraudster, did you buy groceries that week?

No = well tell us where you got food then?

Yes = why didn't you use your usual method of payment, ie credit card?

Hmmm, I see, Ms. Fraudster, you went an entire month without buying groceries on credit card... didn't eat for a month?

Oh, you bought lots of food the previous month, stocking up? OK, let's look at all your weekly/monthly grocery charges for the previous 12 months...

Yep, forensic accountants rock! Some folks think accounting is boring... I think it's better than a good crime novel mystery!

The other really despicable thing about receiving cash donations is that it's entirely likely that no one kept track of how much was donated.

Scammers don't like to let anyone touch the money but them. That way they have total control and total secrecy over money.

I have to wonder who might have been collecting the bucks at those functions. Did someone count it before passing it on to the speakers? Hmmmm

Tucker, and Kate told them someday if they work hard they can get servants to do shit for them.

The reality is most people can't afford hired help or at minimum maybe just a housekeeper every so often. What will happen when they grow up to work mediocre jobs and suddenly don't have the money for such things? How do you adjust from having everything done for you to suddenly not being able to afford anything other than a bottle of Lysol and a sponge to do the job yourself? I've always found it fascinating the idea of celebrity children or wealthy children making this transition. So many of them want nothing to do with their previous life or resent it and yet when faced with actually having to live in the real world so many are not content with that either not to mention blindsided by how hard it is.

Admin,

It was about 10 years ago and I did some legal nurse consulting. It was a case where there was medicaid fraud and the person involved was making tons of money on the side, way more than was allowed. But they continued to claim poverty to keep their medicaid benefits. They were living, essentially a dual life, a medicaid benefits life and a cash income life.

First trigger to investigation was living beyond his means. Actually, one of his 'friends' ratted him out. HA!

I was part of team working on the case. It was a first for me, and I happened to get to know the forensic accountant pretty well over the course of about 5 months.

What he told me was fascinating! They look for things that are there and things that are NOT there but should be. Patterns are key. He tracked down every single charge, check, deposit.

FAs LOVE trails!!! Yes, he had nerd glasses and really and truly had a pocket protector, and wore suspenders, but by the time he finished teaching me his tricks and the case was over, I was in love with that sexy, sexy accountant.

Story ending - DH told me to quit drooling over the FA and the bad guy went to prison.

I wasn't there for most of trial but I heard that the accountant testamony can put ADD people to sleep.... oh well, he sure looked good up on the stand!

Most of my very short LNC was doing chart reviews. Most attorneys want someone who can review charts and testify as expert witness. I was too far from clinical to qualify as EW. Loved doing those chart reviews though! I think most nurses LOVE charts and the stories they can tell.

Anonymous said...

Ph, here's another interesting pearl he shared about another case -

The prosecuter actually had PI follow the woman to see how she was getting her groceries, so in addition to all those weeks where there weren't any grocery charges, they had photo proof that she was getting groceries and paying cash.

He said the depositions were sizzling. The woman never thought about the 'non-trail' cash leaves. And neither did I until I met that FA....

Oh, his report was a work of art! Every single transaction, every single one!!! He'd have been a good IRS drone.... well, except that he was so sexy.... LOL

If I were defending Kate I would want a copy of the book, then I would go through it line by line and ask Kate if she had proof it was a lie (because as a public figure, it's her burden.) If she were able to come up with any proof on anything, I'd show it to Robert and demand a retraction within 5 days or whatever or I'd take him to court. A lie detector test isn't going to help you want darn bit in court, it's not even admissible.

Yes. Well also it's everything we kind of KNEW but laid out with more specificity.

We knew she was one rich bitch. We knew she grifted massive amounts of money from companies like Lane furniture. We also knew she aggressively pursued companies for freebies and no one just falls into her lap wanting to help, not until she drags them there.

It's stuff we knew based on intuition, clues, the big picture, etc. But it's nice to see it spelled out so simply.

Admin, the Saturday Night Live skit about Honey Boo Boo and her mama ended that way. ” if you marry into a family of werewolves, or fill your house with cat skeletons, TLC will HOOK YOU UP with your own TV show”
The skit is online at nbc.com, look under Saturday Night Live video clips.

Oh I saw good ole Kate Coyne from People magazine (of, Kate ain't so bad fame) spent about two hours on 20/20 the other night being the expert on every TV show known to man. My God that woman is quite the piece of work.
====

I cannot stomach that one. What a freaking know-it-all. Did you know that if you took the head of pig and put it on Coyne's neck you would still think you're looking at the same person. She is just that nauseating. I wonder if she's still buddy-buddy with Kate.

Auntie I can't see Kate Coyne making it farther than this. She looks too much like the snotty prom queen you wanted to see trip on her dress. She's really not cut out for T.V.

She seems to know what the public sentiment, sorry sediment, is on every T.V. show known to man. Is that her job, punch in at work and watch T.V., then survey the public for how they feel? Sounds fun. When she started waxing poetically about the charm of Spock's ears which brought us all together, I was done. Also how old were you when ER was on, 11? How do you even remember?

Snotty prom queen is a good comparison. She had to have known someone at People otherwise I don't know how she got that job. She doesn't seem to be very people-ish. She may as well just say Don't argue with me, I'm always right, after everything she says.

I think the reason she is so grating when say Jane Doe from whatever other network who does the same thing isn't at all, is because she tends to speak FOR people. Everyone liked this because of this. People hate Kate because of this but she's really like this. No Kate Coyne, you're just totally off about that. Even when it's something small, it's like no Kate, I will decide for myself why I liked E.R. You don't tell ME how or why I liked something especially when you were in fourth grade when that show was on.

It just doesn't work in terms of making you a nice, easy T.V. personality to listen to. I'm shocked someone at People hasn't realized how truly terrible she is on T.V. She really is awful at it. Can she speak and look pretty, yes. Are the words coming out of her mouth of any value whatsoever? Nope.

I already said that we have a staff of three here--me and two other blog girls. Sometimes I find them out behind the shed making out with the mowing boys.

Before or after they've cut the grass...and how many mowing boys?

Sleepless you're awfully nosey! Hehe.

I'm in! I say she manages to get on a couple shows and her defense will be: She did what she needed to do to support her children and she isn't sorry for a bit of it. She wanted more for herself.... err.. the kids, yeah the kids and she feels she attained that. She's going to be defiant and unapologetic.
************************************************

And least we forget: wo was she to say no if those nice folks wanted to donate their hard earned money to her family.
Now is the time for Matt Lauer to interview her the same way he attacked Christy Brinkly. I would also love to see Bill O'Reily interview her.
I really hope this book is published soon. Since the author added another chapter, I wonder if it has the custody split or if it is about all of the legal issues Kate used to try and stop publication?

There's a new post so I hope you see this, Blessed.

Thank you for your kind and intelligent reply to my questions. I sincerely hope I didn't offend you by asking.

I certainly wasn't trying to be snarky or insulting, my question was out of genuine curiosity, but looking back on it now I can see how it may have come across that way. My apologies.

I haven't been to church, other than my brother's funeral a few years ago, in a very, very long time and I honestly have no idea how/why they decide to bring in paid guests.

Truly, I'm just disgusted that Kate and Jon would stand in front of any congregation and cry poor with 2 million dollars in the bank.

Again, thank you for your respectful response.
