The gardening thread

By popular demand and because it's more interesting than Kate, I'm opening a gardening thread. Share tips, tricks, stories, whatever you want. Feel free to discuss anything else you want, it's not limited to gardening.

And for those who don't garden, you're wrong. You have a garden....in your mind. Check out this awesome viral video.

Permanent: thank you for the clarification....it is typical Kate...the agent suggested that Kate take the girls to a local theater group and get more practice/exposure and that was when Kate said she didn't have time...if it's not handed to her with no work on her part then she doesn't want anything to do with it

She is really pushing the "Mady has Talent" craploa. Her one last hope I suppose. By golly, those kids are going to support mom's lifestyle.

amyf -- I have American Shorthairs. The kitty in the picture is a real sweetheart, but he was looking especially grumpy after his bath. He didn't mind the water, but hated being wrapped up in a towel, LOL. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about Celtic music, but I'm a big fan of The Chieftains and I really like the traditional music. If Admin is willing to put us in touch with each other privately, that's fine, or we can do it on the blog, if no one objects. Whatever works best for you.

A bit off topic here, but I thought many of you might appreciate this.

My nephew and his wife are newly divorced and he has full custody of their 12 month old daughter. You may correctly infer that the past many months have been full of great drama.

Anyway the baby's 1st birthday is coming next week and like many young people, my nephew did the "Facebook Invites" thing. And there at the top of the list is his daughter's mother.

In fact both of these young parents (well, they are both 28) are posting on FB pretty cheery messages about looking forward to the party and celebrating with their baby together.

In addition, every 1st and 3rd Saturday (not the 5th Saturday however) baby goes for a sleep-over to her maternal grandparents' home. That is NOT where she sees her mommy however, visits with mommy are Thursdays, from noon to 6p every week.

Anyway, I was pretty pleased that these two are making this effort for their child and thought I would share with you. :-)

For what it's worth, I feel pretty strongly that Kate was absolutely giddy about having 2 acquaintances to spend some time with this weekend, and since it is such a novel event for her she blathered on and on about it, like a 13 year old going to the school dance. She was stuck to her phone during the entire outing to show the 'marathon girls' that she is 'Ms Important Stah'.

As far as her insinuating that the kids 'played with marathon girls' ALL WEEKEND, the kids likely met the ladies briefly, perhaps for as long as an hour, and since no blood was shed, Kate decided everyone had FUN FUN FUN!!!!! and EVERYONE was HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!! Did she tweet that 'marathon girls' just LOVVVVVE "us!!!!" and 'we just lovvvve them!!!!!!'

Of course she tweeted a picture, she had to prove she was not sitting home alone again this weekend. After all, it's a RARE TREAT for her.

I feel more and more sorry for her as time goes on. What a pathetic little life she has boxed herself into living, and she continues to have tantrums trying to stay that way. She is so immature and so ill. She should not be raising children.

I agree. Kate is really starved for new friends and I think she is still trying to cope with the massive changes in social structure that comes with divorce.
Now, I do believe that Kate has lost friends and family on her rise to "stardom" and "celebrity" of her own volition. I truly believe that Kate never saw her star fading, not for years. So, people were cast away and her life was filled with interlopers and distractions. Now that's gone and the "real" people are gone and she has to rebuild her social life.
I can almost feel of tinge of sympathy for Kate, having gone through divorce myself and loss of friends and family in the process. It hurt a lot.
So, when I had a friend come over my (not so big!) empty house for the weekend, I was THRILLED.
This was wayyyy before Twitter, but I doubt that I'd take to tweeting how fab, happy and amazing my "girls" are.

Dont post often now. Everyone already said what I was thinking.

I do have some garden tips. They are all related to getting health soil.

1) Start improving the soil in the fall. Till in fresh menure. You can usually find people that will cart the stuff over to yur house for free. Its too nitrogen heavy to use in the spring but can be safely used in the winter. You can also till in leaves, mulch and other plant material. It will rot during the winter and give you healthy soil in the spring.

2) Cover your vegtable garden area with plastic after your last harves and after you till in the menure and plant material.

3) Composting worms (ie red wigglers) are important to soil health.They produce great fertelizer. One of my friends has a worm box. She feeds the worms garden waste and they make her compost. I use worm tubes. The tubes are in the garden. I add some plant material once a week. The worms eat the food at night and then move throughout the garden in the day. They airate the soil and fertilized at the same time. You can always just set a bunch loose in the early spring. Do it at night though. They hate the sun.

4) Refresh your soild bacteria once a year. My local nursery has a table that contain a few strains of soil bacteria. We put one into each area every spring. Just dig a small hole and drop the table in. Water the area and you are done.

5) If you hve fleas, Benefical nematodes can help. They kill fleas, and other pests while the pests are still in the larva stage. They have helped with my cabbage worm problem and slug problem.

6) Lady bugs and praying mantices are good bugs to have in the garden. They eat the insects that are eating your plants.

7) An inexpensive way to remove mushrooms from your lawn and soil is lime. Mushrooms like acidic soil. Lime is basic so it will raise the pH of the soil making it harder for mushrooms to grow there.
Finally, old rotting stumps (well rotted works best) can be used as a nusery for new trees. Drill out a hole large enough for the tree and part of the root ball. Plant the tree and fill around with top soil. Add bacteria and worms to the soil. The tree will thrive. Some of the forsts here have trees with big holes in them or that look like dinosours. These trees were grown ontop of a fallen tree. The fallen tree is often refered to as a nursery tree.

Kate does not tweet to keep in touch personally with her fans, it's trying to get some coverage. There was only ONE lonely article about this weekend by the Oklahoma City Examiner TV online that Kate had a girls' weekend. if it wasn't for Twitter, nobody would have any idea what she's up to. Whoever got her started on Twitter was smart. It obviously wasn't thought of by Kate. I think she is also enjoying all the adulation, thus she keeps up the responses and doesn't really have to interact in person with her tweeties. It's quite amusing they think she is so warm and sweet. A few lonely women and star struck teens are not going to get her back on TV.

I'm sure the 'marathon girls' loved playing with 8 kids they don't know, who wouldn't? I actually like children, but maybe would paly for 10 minutes. Were they treated to Mady's one-woman show? I'm surprised there's not a twit pic of the FUN.

dmasy: the fire pit picture is gorgeous. Thanks for changing the photos so we can see your glorious yard. Do you have an archive of photos - didn't see them on your blog but I don't have an acct so maybe I'm unable to view them?

"My Secret Garden"... err... make that "The Secret Garden" book club.

What a difference a word makes! (As it turns out, "My Secret Garden" is a book resembling the recent "50 Shades of Grey".) Not for children, but perhaps for hard up ex-wives like Kate--.
---------------
Ha Kristine, imagining Khate being forced to help out with a book club her kid's belong to and picking up 8 copies of "My Secret Garden". Mainly because it has the MY in the title lol.

I once had a little wrong title experience of my own. When I was 13 I had to read "Othello" for school, so to speed things along a schoolmate and I decided to rent the film version. Too bad I picked up "Otello", which, as I now know, is an Italian opera. Quite different. My only consolation was that it didn't take us too long to figure out we'd gotten the wrong film.

Mandy said...

Wow! What a great thread! Trying to catch up after a fun-filled weekend. I need to write a lot of these great tips down. Thanks!

Since Kate is so darn predictable, we can pretty much always figure out what is going on with her. We know that she doesn't tweet when she is with Steve, and that she tweets incessantly when she is with her children to avoid interacting with them. So then why the twittering mania with "her" "marathon girls" present? (What a twit! If I made a new friend, and that friend labeled me that way, I'd definitely not be putting her on my speed dial.)

What I think is that other than running, Kate and "her" "marathon girls" had nothing else in common, so she spend a lot of time letting her fingers do the talking. I find it so rude that she tends to twitter when she says she has guests at her house. What a terrible hostess she is...

I picture a lot of long, awkward silences. Wonder if the girls had to sign confidentiality agreements.

The other strange thing about this whole "her" "marathon girls" visit is that they accepted the invitation in the first place, but the more I think about it, I believe it was probably profound curiosity. If you had a friend to go with you and you received an invitation like that, wouldn't you be curious to actually spend time inside the Kompound to see if all the rumors were true? That would be an invitation that would be awfully hard to resist!

I was watching the cutting room floor clip the other day, the part where the Gosslins were taking a nature walk in a forest. I think Kate was illegally gathering some of those huge pine cones to take home.

I was noticing how Kate was completely freaking at Jon for saying something to the producer ON CAMERA (OMG!), and by NAME!!!!

Jon had said something like, "Jen, do you want me to bring the car around?"
And then the camera panned backwards to show Jen standing just off the path the Gosselins were walking on.

She was freaking at Jon that they're not supposed to acknowledge the camera or the crew. EVER. They're supposed to act like they're not there.

Kind of ironic, isn't it, since once Jon & Kate started not getting along, Kate directed most of her comments to someone off camera. And still does.

I wonder if any of the gardening wizards reading here can help me identify a strange new growth that has appeared in my flower gardens this spring. I live in the Lancaster, PA area, and we have had great weather (not too rainy), which makes me wonder why these 3-inch pink/reddish finger-like growths are popping up suddenly. They are VERY odd looking, and I am thinking they are probably a type of fungus or mold. I'd love to know what they are and how to get rid of them. I've plucked them out but they come right back. I'd post a photo if I could figure out how to do that here ... Thanks, in advance, for your opinions.

Dmasy said...

F&amp -- do they smell horrible? I mean really horrible?

Dmasy said...

F&amp - If they do smell, you have a Stinkhorn mushroom. Keep pulling them up so that the spores won't re-populate the soil. I have heard that if you sprinkle a bit of corse salt on the ground they won't come back. But, don't do that if you have other plants there you would not want to harm.

Around here, they have another name that references their phallic appearance.

I was told they have a healing property like an antibiotic. There is some thing medicinal in the smell, but I have never experimented on a wound to see if that is true.

Mel, Kate not only did that, but mugged for the camera and made acerbic "jokes", laughing at others' expense. Kate also flipped, FLIPPED at Jon for mentioning "seasons", remember that?
Now, not only does Kate refer to seasons, but the kids remember what they've done by what episode it was.
I telling photo of what a real production filming is the one where Kate is shown walking the kids down the street to a farm (telling the little boy to "man up"). On film, it looks like a family stroll. In real life, there's a half dozen crew members, body guards and other helpers. It was a parade.

====
Tucker's - On that cutting room floor episode at the beginning (2006) when they were still green and unaccustomed to the filming crew, as they were walking through Sequoia park collecting pine cones, Jon asked Jen a question on camera and Kate just ripped him a new one right on the spot. It was embarrassing. She said something like "you're supposed to pretend they're not here(!X4) Haven't you learned yet(!X4) You're so annoying (!X4)" Right there I would have pushed her over a cliff, but I think that's about the time Jen realized there was a goldmine in Kate's emasculation of Jon, and a "stah" was born.

Once a Viewer said...

There was one epi where Jen was asking Kate why she had thrown 'feces' at her ( a dirty diaper) and they showed Jen running away, big joke for Kate.

Later Kate would guffaw to the unseen crew if Mady said something she thought was funny or about her long showers (Mr Water Softener Man epi) or a snide remark about Jon etc.Thinks she's witty and wants to show how the crew 'loved' her.

Now, will her South Africa 'dream' come true? I thought "Korea' was once her dream trip?

Tucker's Mom said...

AuntiAnn, I love how TLC went from telling J+K to pretend that the crew isn't there, and "act natural" to showing a crew member holding a screw driver to his neck, to the water rafting guide saying that Kate is a piece of work to the ultimate curtain pull-back of PizzaGate.
It was like, f*ck it, this is the real Kate. Funny how Kate then cried "editing! ratings!!" whereas her mantra was "the realest reality show" prior.
I guess she wasn't acting as a producer on the final shows ;-)

I truly believe that Kate never saw her star fading, not for years.

***************
Spot-on! And I think she still doesn't realize that her star faded long ago. She still thinks she's a viable candidate for TV stardom. How could she watch the show's ratings plummet the way they did (at one point I think they only got 680,000 viewers!) and still think she was a big ratings draw?
A month or two ago, one of her fans (on Twitter) was asking about her going on DWTS All-Stars, and she said something about how she could bring "controversy and ratings". What makes her think she can still do that? Does she really think she's a big star who can draw crowds wherever she appears? She's so delusional, it's just sad. She's not a reality tv star any longer. She's nothing but an occasional coupon blogger. She doesn't seem to get that. She obviously wants to go on DWTS so badly she can taste it. She probably believes it will resurrect her "career". But she'd be the one big dud in the middle of all the best dancers, and she'd be the first one to go. It would be like a cruel joke. Put her on briefly, show some clips of what a b**ch she is, let her make a fool of herself out on the dance floor, then boot her off.

The crew helped set things up in the later shows & were seen on screen, like the RV BBQs, the popcorn machine & tents at the second movie/campout in backyard, other times as well. The kids were crawling all over one guy with a ponytail and he looked a little alarmed, like "get these brats off me- help!"

So many people helped Kan-do Kate in K+8- Carla put away her cupboard contents in the new kitchen, various 'gifts' set up - Crooked Houses, chicken coop, solar panels, tree planting Jamie/Ashley babysat at home,& went on trips, various experts visited..

I would have liked a garden show or landscaping one, lol.'Y'all' as you say could have been consultants!

After telling a fan who is going to Alaska not to camp near the water when the road was 100 miles away Kate had to do a little backpedaling since some people called her out on that. She later said (in a tweet) that contrary to what was aired the kids really were not having a good time in Alaska and wanted to go and stay in the lodge. She is rewriting history once again as we heard some of the kids say that they were having a good time and that's when she threatened them with being a Palin rather than a Gosselin.

I am so excited! I took time to finish making watermelon rind pickle on Friday night, and canned eight jars, and they all sealed! It's Purdy!
It took about five or six hours total, tedious but so good and so worth it, if you like sweet pickle.
Recipe thanks to Ginny W who made it for The Great Peanut Bicycle Rides in Emporia, VA.
Take one watermelon, slice into sections, cut out the melon and serve, save the rind for the pickle. The rind is the outside portion or the green part of the watermelon.
Peel just a thin outer layer off the rind, then cut into one or two inch chunks. mix one-half cup salt with one gallon water, put rind pieces in large pot, cover with salt water solution (also called brine), and soak for minimum 12 hours. You can leave pieces soaking in fridge for several days if you do not have time to complete processing right away.
When ready to process: rinse rind, then place in large pot, cover with water only, cook on medium high heat for about 20 minutes until pieces are easily pierced with a fork. drain in colander.
Prepare syrup: mix three cups apple cider vinegar or white vinegar with nine cups sugar and heat, add spices in a stainless steel tea ball one tablespoon whole cloves and one tablespoon lemon peel, add three cinnamon sticks to solution. Bring solution to rolling boil. Cover the rind with the syrup and cook over medium heat until rind is translucent, about 45 minutes.
Have your canning jars prepared, either sterilize by boiling or place in pan in oven at 250 degrees for twenty minutes.
Spoon rind and syrup into sterilized jars, make sure rim of jar is dry, cover with new canning lid, twist on rim, and cover jars with towel. The jars should seal within next few hours. Eat within next year! Let it sit for at least one week before serving.
Make sure you do not put the tea ball or a cinnamon stick in your canning jars. I almost canned my tea ball, that would have been a super spicy jar!

I may have said this before but the one thing that disgusted me on the RV episode was when she was talking about Wyoming and a crew member said you really like Wyoming, huh? She was so blase' when she was like yeah how many times have been out here already - 3 or 4? Even then I could hear the crew thinking, yeah, you will be back in your dreams. They knew.

Wow Kate had friends to be with this weekend. How unusual. She was friends with the producers of the shows. Those were her friends. The people who were paid to keep the Queen Bee happy so she could "perform" on TV. She was the Queen Bee who slapped Emeril with a spatula, remember that while she held a Starbucks coffee cup in the other hand? He was shocked and quite upset. You do not do that to people and you do not mess with a Chef like Emeril, Executive Chefs are not to be messed with, you could end up with a knife in you. I have seen them in their kitchens. So Kate has no friends. She lost her brother and his wife, her husband's family. She lost the volunteers who made her feel so important. Best of all, she ended up with those money making kids who bore the hell out of her with their whining and complaining and they have no TV talent or skills or abilities that would put them back on TV. Kate is pushing Mady and her shows, always Mady doing something entertaining. She does play the violin but so does 1 out of every 5 children play the violin in a school orchestra.

I did not know Kate made light of the Wallenda event. I watched it, quite by accident, I was out of town, didn't know about it, but even with a teethering cord, there was no quarantee he would have been safe in that environment over the middle of the Falls when the wire was so wet and in the decline and then Wallenda had to walk up the wet incline, weather changes with wind constantly. I guess the witch would have to go up to Niagara Falls like we did on the Canadian side to see the enormity of these waters and the purpose of the Falls. She is a witch with a capital W. Who has to have mascara and eyeliner on when going out the door everytime? Who? I was just out of town for over 12 days and rarely wore eye makeup, light blush, little lip color, nothing more. The older you get, the less you wear Bitch, not more. The photos of you over these past 8 yrs are horrible.
Saw NJHW last night, 2 week's worth, had not really watched this show, but found that magazines pay to put you on the cover and you include an article and various hightened comments about people which sells the magazines. Theresa has been caught in lies all the time. One week admitting she owes People 2 more covers and items about cast members, then this week denying it. Also she has lied like her hubby on Bankruptcy papers, withheld money she got for cookbooks and she may go to prison, although she pretends she does not understand she lied. She did attend college. She is married to a slum lord who got caught with all he was doing. He even had mistresses, is a low life and she got caught. He abuses her on that show with his low life comments (reminds me of Kate) nasty man. Even the after show with the VP of Bravo and he questioned Theresa on the "covers she owes magazines" and he showed he did not believe her lies. She is on film lying and she still denied it.

Oh don't ever run or walk by yourself Ladies, please don't. Please take the earphones out as you are even walking among crowds, please. You do have to be vigilant of everything going around you. We cannot walk/run/just running errands, take those earphones out of your ears, do not walk with those phones on and you having a conversation, you put yourself at risk, you are unarmed. Be VIGILANT.
Hope I didn't go over the amount of verbage here. Kate you will have to look up verbage if you have a dictionary in your house.

Kate is always so threatened by women who know how to be around kids without trying to be one. She just does not have that maternal instinct. She's still living in a fun, fun, fun child's world until it comes time to be a parent then she turns into a drill sergeant. There is no happy medium with her.

btw, I loved how Sarah's husband saw right through Kate and made like Houdini on that episode.

Oh please. No Kate, "#lifeofamom" is making sure your kids' needs come before your wants.

It's giving your kids back rubs not them giving them to you.

It's letting your kids do what they want to do, not making them do things you want.

It's meeting your kids' friends and having them over to play, it's not having YOUR friends over to play with your kids. (Seriously, how messed up is that?)

You know, I just realized I could write this list all bloody day. Anyone else want to take over?

Oh, for the record...motherhood has absolutely NOTHING to do with freakin' eyeliner and mascara you emotionally stunted moron.

Hmmm, uncharacteristically snippy of me I know, but it's how I feel right now. Just so sick of this woman trying to pass herself off as knowing what it's really like to be a real single mom.

Kate's motto should be, "I'm not really a mom, I just played one on t.v."

Auntie Anne -- I think it is quite telling that when Kate returned from Alaska she did not talk about maintaining a relationship/friendship with Sarah. She did not relate to another mature woman who was a mother. She did, however, claim a connection to teen Bristol and they stayed in touch.

I always thought that trip was one of her biggest lost opportunities. She just burrowed into her discomfort -- physical and emotional -- and conducted herself like a petulant child.

This is a factually friendly reminder for Kate. Chuck said the kids never once complained and had a great time. And when Kate asked if they wanted to leave they all said they wanted to stay. It wasn't until she guilt tripped them Alexis finally said ok fine. Editing doesn't change the facts. It's all on film.

Kate kicked up such a stink that day I think if Sarah's dad had gotten her alone he would have turned her over his knee. Who knows, maybe he tried but Steve stepped in and threatened him with one of his deadly nerf weapons. At any rate, Kate as usual got her way. Never mind the kids camping adventure was ruined by her. I hope they take that tape along with them to therapy, too.

The only person who was miserable was Kate. Why? Because she is not the type of person who is willing to just put on a good face about things she might enjoy for the sake of others. Guess what, that's life. You do things that you necessarily might not enjoy doing but maybe if you had manners you would realize the world doesn't revolve around you and that sometimes you just have to go along with what everyone else is doing whether you like it or not.

Kate's problem is she wants to be catered to, she wants to do what she wants to do. That trip with Sarah Palin, regardless of how you feel about politics or what the media states about her family, was an opportunity for Kate to utilize, to grow as a person, expand upon her travels and maybe you know, learn a damn thing or two.

Instead she stood there like a 2-year-old and pretty much threw a temper tantrum over a new food item she didn't even try. I didn't see any 19 layers on. So she complains if she is uncomfortable but gosh, her kids just have to suck it up? I get it now.

She threw away a potential friendship and experience all because she didn't get to do what she wanted. And I'm sorry but how has she gown through life this far and not realized, editing or not, that you can't always get what you want? Spoiled, entitled, arrogant, narrow-minded 2-year old brat in the body of a botoxed-tanned 37 year old woman is just not appealing. It's tragic.

Dmasy -- I've never heard the pig tracks expression before, either, and my Mom's people come from Ky. (and some of them even raised a few pigs, for butchering purposes). I've never been to Birmingham, so I've only seen pictures of Vulcan, and they've always been the front view (DARN! LOL).

Sheri -- I don't have time to take over, but I'll add a couple:

It's holding your kid's head while they puke and cuddling them when they don't feel well, even if they puke on you, not putting them down on a cold laundry room floor with a bucket.

It's not making disparaging remarks about the father of your children, no matter how unhappy you are with him.

I am a fanatic about healthy eating and fitness. Just thought I’d mention it in case you didn’t already know!

In the recent years, since my six youngest are well on their way to growing up and I’m finally out of the diaper and sleepless night phase, I have rediscovered my love of healthy eating and incorporating organics when possible. I’ve also become an avid runner. Don’t forget to sign up to run a mini-marathon with me!

The most exciting part is that my kids have also taken an interest in making healthy food choices and have joined me in family runs. In fact, we were able to complete Rod Dixon’s KiDSMARATHON program and run our final mile together, along with 900 other kids this past weekend. It was definitely a rewarding and enjoyable time and a very proud moment for Mom!

I love running for the obvious benefits of stress relief, alone time and physical benefits it gives me, but I also love it because it’s a rather inexpensive sport; all you really need is a good pair of running shoes and a sports bra. Otherwise any old t-shirt and shorts will work as “equipment!”

Having said that, it’s important to invest in a good pair of running shoes to avoid injury and to be a stronger runner. A quality pair can cost up to $100 or more. In order to cut my costs, I like to use coupons and shop when my favorite shoes are on sale. Typically, I save my Dicks Sporting Goods coupons and wait for my Asics Gel Kayano shoes to go on sale before buying my next pair.

However, sometimes I can beat that price by going to CouponCabin.com and searching for the best offer for my specific running shoes. Whichever sports store has the best price gets my business. I recently saved $25 just by using a deal I found on CouponCabin. That amount of savings alone makes me run faster! : )

Eating organically and healthy is another very expensive commitment, but a very worthwhile endeavor. I am determined to feed my kids and myself healthily which not only helps me log faster and more efficient miles, but it wards off sickness and disease. I’ve always made my kids’ diets a high priority and that was initially the reason I began buying and preparing healthy and organic foods. I started to research and switch over about 10 years ago and eventually allowed myself to join the healthy quest.

I believe there are ways for everyone to make it affordable. I buy in bulk, prepare meals from scratch, use coupons, buy organic produce locally from produce stands and even shop at my local discount food store, which carries many of the same organic brands that Whole Foods and other leading healthy and organic stores do. It thrills me SO much to find bargain prices on healthy foods. Through CouponCabin, I’ve also signed up for many mailer coupons and have added them to my coupon envelope to use while shopping at any number of stores.

It’s certainly not an easy feat to shop for and save on high-priced healthy and organic foods. It requires stops at many stores, time, research and determination but I feel that the benefits of staying fit and eating healthy foods will, in the long run (pun intended, lol) help my family grow and thrive!

As a mom, health and fitness is high on my list of passions. What you put in is what you get back. I hope that my dedication will help to produce eight really strong, healthy and successful kids. I challenge YOU to switch over to a healthy lifestyle. Your determination will lead you to find ways to save while heading towards health.

She forgot to add to her blog that the cheapest way to eat organic is to grow your own veggies. With all that land, she could have a huge garden. And gardening is good exercise. But oh wait. No way to get free trips from that.

I find her latest CC post hysterical, considering her kid tested and approved recipes (they're all 10s!) are made from crap in a can.

Kate's new useless blog entry is up at CC. It's about healthy eating and fitness, although once again there are no tips. Just me, me, me and my kinds ran a marathon; and...oh, I wait until my Asics running shoes go on sale before I buy them.

That was a very pompous self-congratulatory CC blog! And the BS about her kids loving running and COMPLETING the kids' marathon program etc. Then she says she loves 'alone time' running, then she states she loves family runs. Which is it? Surely she has plenty of alone time. She did say they were starting a garden but nothing further on that- she buys organic 'produce' at 'produce stands.' Imagine that. She 'even' shops at discount stores, how lowly!

Overall, she sees herself as a health and fitness guru, champion mother and a witty writer. Nothing could be further from the truth as obvious in those pathetic YouTubes, her blogs and of course her reality show.

(One of my pet peeves is the expression 'eat healthy.' She uses that one a lot- only once here, luckily!)

Another bull-crap post, with most sentences starting with 'I'. Not a whole lot to so with coupons, either. Note to CC and Kate - what Kate writes has been said already throughout the media world, in print and all through the blogosphere, by people who are credible and write better. What a joke.

If Kate Gosselin wrote that CC blog, I'll eat a hot dog (which I hate.) I think Kate gave some outlines and somebody else wrote it. For example, the article implies that Kate's kids did the first 25 miles of the KiDSMARATHON before they went to Connecticut to run the final mile. Is that true? Also, there are so many references to using coupons and utilizing CC coupons. Quite unusual, because Kate's too busy talking about herself to get to that subject. Finally, where is the sign-off smiley face after the K8? Nope, somebody else
wrote this.

Her Asic Gel Kayano 17 running shoes (which she claims to be loyal to) alone are around $150. Regarding Kate's CC post; who does she think she's kidding? They didn't run "our final mile", they ran the last and ONLY mile in that program. Her wording makes it sound like they participated in the previous runs in that program.

Also, she makes "prepare meals from scratch"? Since when? At least we haven't seen her do that with her Menu Monday posts. Most of the meals consisted of various canned beans with some extra things thrown in, including lots and lots of cheese. How is this "preparing meals from scratch"? Not to mention the saying is that you eat with your eyes first, the food has to look appealing. Kate's meals lost on that, too, because none of them ever looked appealing to me. AND, they definitely weren't organic and healthy for the kids!

This woman posts a plate of greens with 1/2 of an avacado and something else. She said on her web site that this at noon or dinner fills her up. This is bull crap for sure. No one who is eating healthy eats 1 meal a day of greens and nothing else. If she and the kids eat this way then there is a malnutrition surge raging in that house. The kids are always sick, of course, they would be, those little kids need 3 meals a day, balanced nutrition. She can buy a darn paper back book in the check out line of Bed, Bath & Beyond. If her money goes to household items and more plastic bins to store everything she scams from people she could have a healthier life herself by eating. Joy Luck has a great book out and you have to have nutrition even snacks are important. She starves, her kids starve too. Good that they go to Jon's place where pizza prevails I guess and hot dogs and hamburgers and Jon's girlfriend's 3 children to play with. No "keep the noise down, stay in the basement" but able to play, watch TV and be real normal. She has a mental problem with people, having possessions including those kids, money and being super thin. If you see her in person you are amazed at how thin she is, she is not tall, so she may look a bit chunky on film, but in person, she is reed thin, but those shoulders could block a refrigerator! Eat Kate, feed your kids, they are so thin and scrawny, not a chunky one among them and Collin was a bigger kid, but she got his weight down too. Starving is insane and everyone should know that. Eat right, eat small meals and eat often. Stay full of good food and you will lose weight when you move, just walk, don't go nuts running around in $150 athletic shoes. I bought my Acis at an Orthopaedic store near me, no coupon and guess what I paid? $89.90. Yep, you look around you will find less expensive, which big stores have to up the price. Brain food? Nutrition.

We've seen what she says she feeds her kids and it is not healthy. Okay, I'm going to relate to my grandsons - again. (Anyone surprised by this?!)

The boys love hot dogs, but it's was difficult to get them to eat other meats (except chicken legs). Since they love pasta, I make me own versions of hamburger helper. I use ground beef or shredded pork, make gravy from beef or chicken stock with flour and seasonings, and add it to the pan with cooked pasta. I buy the fun shapes for them: wagon wheel pasta, the mini pasta shapes, etc. I serve this with biscuits and they eat it.

The boys won't always eat cooked veggies, unless they picked them. But they love fresh broccoli and fresh carrots with Ranch dressing. So this is on the table with the pasta dish. They're getting protein, vitamins, and definitely eating healthier than Kate's kids.

Of course there's the Friday night pizza or a Saturday Happy Meal lunch, but everything in moderation, right? Besides, I'm Grandma and I'm supposed to spoil them some. It's in my job description.

Kate’s buzz word is Organic. Does she even know what that really means? Here’s the USDA definition of Organic.

USDA Organic: In 2000, after a 10-year development process, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) rolled out its rules covering use of the word "organic" on foods. The USDA accredits independent certifiers, who then check the claims of producers. The system has three levels:
• "100% Organic": Can only contain organic ingredients, meaning no antibiotics, hormones, genetic engineering, radiation or synthetic pesticides or fertilizers can be used. Can display the USDA organic logo and/or the specific certifying agent's logo.
• "Organic": Contains 95% organic ingredients, with the balance coming from ingredients on the approved National List. These products can also display the USDA organic logo and/or the certifier's logo.
• "Made with Organic Ingredients": Must be made with at least 70% organic ingredients, three of which must be listed on the package, and the balance must be on the National List. These products may display the certifier's logo but not the USDA organic logo

Organic does not necessarily mean healthy. It’s how the food is produced and what level of certification the organic product receives. People can be healthy without eating organically produced foods. It’s all about adopting a healthy lifestyle.

I believe (my opinion) is that Kate heard the word somewhere and latched on to it. “Oooh, look at me, I and my kids are only eating only organic foods”. In the natural foods industry is called the Big “O”. This is what a lot of natural food producers strive for. First, because the company believes in the organic principles and second, it sells more product. Now don’t get me wrong, eat organic if you understand what it truly means. Don’t eat organice products just because it’s a buzz word and you think it makes you look healthy.

I agree it's important to buy local, it is also important to assess the value in organic foods and what that actually means for health. If it's a choice between buying local organic or local with pesticides, there is NO question which is better for your body.

Recently I've noticed a lot of articles in the MSM trying to prove that inorganic foods are just as "nutritious" as organic foods. That may be true from a vitamin/mineral tally, but as far as I know there is no scale that rates what your daily recommended intake of pesticides, chemicals, dyes, hormones, antibiotics, steroids and preservatives should be.

IMO these articles are smear tactics by big-agriculture and the industrialized food industry to try to sway consumers to continue to buy products that knowingly contribute to bad health. IF we really understood how far away from food these products are we wouldn't eat them.

Example: A Boston Kreme Donut from DD has 84 ingredients. It's called "Kreme" because there is NO DAIRY in it. At all. Why does a donut NEED 84 ingredients??? It's insane. It's a chemical product, not a food product.

And people are beginning to take notice and buy more products that are less processed--just look at your local markets "green" offerings.

Given the choice, and depending on what is financially possible, I'll take organic every second of every day, no question. Of course organic sugar and chips are still sugar and chips and should be eaten in moderation. Organic does not mean calorie free.

On a side note regarding increases in gluten allergies: There is a school of thought that gluten allergies are caused not by gluten but by GMO grains. This explains why the increase has been so sudden.

Remember when everyone could eat peanuts/peanut butter? What happened there?? Now I can't even send my kid to school with a peanut butter sandwich for fear of a reaction from another child.

I am not perfect by any stretch and don;t want to come across as preachy, but I do my best to try to buy quality foods for my family. Our bread/cookie/muffin products, I bake myself. we do organic dairy and meats. And I try to do organic fruits and veggie, depending on what type/weekly price. I live in So FL so having a garden is something that is not possible right now, too hot, otherwise I would love a veggie garden.

Sorry for the ramble/rant, but I would really hope that people would not turn their noses at organic foods simply because Kate waves them like an "I'm better than you" flag. Please do some reading, assess your family's food needs and buy according to your budget.

Heather I'm very concerned about pesticides on food. A lot of what I've read though says that there are dangerous bacteria and other organisms on organic food especially due to the manure used to fertilize that can be just as dangerous. It's one danger versus another.

I am also concerned that organic food is often shipped thousands of miles, exposed to pollutants on the highway and from trucks and other transports, to get to where it's going. Very few people talk about this which I find odd. I recently parked my car for two weeks next to a parking garage along the 405, the biggest highway in LA. After two weeks my car was literally covered in sludge and slime. This is what is on our highways. This is what we expose our food to when we ship organic all those miles.

I've become frustrated with our options. None of the options seems like they address all my concerns. I have found that a lot of local farmers are growing food responsibly without necessarily getting certified organic. Chickens can be grain fed and uncaged and lay great eggs without going through the steps to be certified organic. Local food that doesn't travel all those miles is what I've settled on for now. That way at least you've removed the element of exposure to road toxins.

My dad has destroyed his knee jogging. He jogged several miles maybe 3-4 times a week from a teen into his 40's. His knee was destroyed by the time he was 50. He survives with cortisone shots but eventually he will need a knee replacement.

This is not an anecdotal tale, this is the story of runners reaching their 50's, time and time again. Funny the attention that certain sports get for being dangerous, like football. Running is dangerous and people should know what they're getting into before tackling it.

LoveMyGrandsons said...

Heather, you made some very good points and I agree with you. However, I don't think we're talking about just donuts and processed food.

I think of regular fruits and vegetables. Yes, there may be pesticides used, but if the produce is washed good and stored properly, I don't know if there will be an issue because of pesticides being used. And I mean I truly don't know because I've never researched it. I'm sure in that respect organic may be better, but I still think that fresh fruits and veggies are good for the body, whether or not they are organic.

Once again, I don't know for sure because I've never researched organically grown produce. But it my neck of the woods, it's much more expensive than the regular produce. Therefore, if I have to buy something that we do not grow in our garden, I usually do not buy organic unless there is a great sale going on.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

LOL! Kate has nothing to do with my food choices. I eat organic dairy and meat and locally grown fruits and veggies and Kate doesn't have one thing to do with that.

I think all we're saying is Kate doesn't seem to know what she's talking about when she waxes poetic about organic, and may be seriously misleading her followers. Especially since organic is often so much more expensive, it's important to know what you are talking about. Heather you clearly do, and that's great. People should know why they are eating what they eat.

Okay, regarding Admin's post about chickens being grain fed, I have to tell you a funny story about our friends that we visited on Saturday.

They have 23 chickens and when it was feeding time, I never saw anything like it. Her hubby went into the fenced in area with a platter and the chickens pretty much charged him. They knew the platter meant feeding time, and being some of the biggest, fattest chickens I had ever seen, I knew they were hungry.

When he took the foil off the platter and scattered the food, I couldn't believe it. They scatter a couple leftover pork chops, some pepperoni, 2 watermelon rinds, and half of a cherry pie! I told my friend that this is the first time I had ever seen chickens get a 3 course meal and she laughed. She said they always give the chickens the leftovers that they have before they spoil.

For the record, they lay lots of big eggs that are very good. However, they do not eat the chickens; they have named them all and when they die, they bury them. It's how they've always done it.

I've become frustrated with our options. None of the options seems like they address all my concerns. I have found that a lot of local farmers are growing food responsibly without necessarily getting certified organic.

___

Agreed. I tell my husband that our next home (we are in a townhouse) better have enough land for a garden and a few chickens for fresh eggs.

One of the problems farmers have with organic meat certification is even if an animal is legitimately ill and needs an antibiotic, then it is no longer considered organic, and they cannot sell it as such. I guess I am glad that at least there are some regulations in place.

BTW, the FDA just reaffirmed the position of no antibiotics to animals. It is not a regulation at this point, but will force the companies to identify themselves as stuffing the animals with drugs. So when you see that beautiful big chicken breast, keep on walking by the meat case because it is most likely full of hormones, steriods and antibiotics.

Here's a quick link:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/story/2012-04-11/FDA-antibiotics-farm-animals/54172866/1

Part of my food issue is that the time it takes to make food rather than opening a box is pretty similar. i can make a stovetop mac-n-cheese (kid pleaser) in the same time as blue box.

Fresh, simple food is always the best.

I grew up in dairy country and had family members who were farmers or involved in breeding. There are many farm that are churning out very safe and healthy products but are never going to bother to get certified organic. It's seen as a red tape annoyance there. I browsed some of the USDA regulations for organic, it looks like a complete red tape nightmare. Of course they are necessary, but not everyone is going to be able to jump through all these hoops. Not only that but fines for any little missteps are STEEP, $11,000 ballpark.

If you can do it, great, but understand there are a lot of small farms out there that don't have the time and manpower to keep up with these regulations even if they qualify.

Sheri -- I don't have time to take over, but I'll add a couple:

It's holding your kid's head while they puke and cuddling them when they don't feel well, even if they puke on you, not putting them down on a cold laundry room floor with a bucket.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It's also taking off your clothes and sitting naked in a tub of warm water tightly cuddling your naked 2 year old who cant stop vomiting most of the night long. Letting the water out, running more, washing your child off, and waiting for the next episode. For hours. While your hubby is on the phone with the pediatrician.

She had gotten into her older sister's nail polish remover and thank God I had syrup of ipecac in the house and the number for Poison Control taped to the phone. My Pediatrician at the time had been MY own Ped, and I actually had her home phone number. Anyway, that child is a hospice nurse now.

THAT is being a mom, Kate. Not laughing at their vomiting, confining them alone in a room on the vinyl floor, and complaining on TeeVee about how inconvenienced you are by their vomit. And Kate, since you are sneering right now saying you have no one to help you, it's your own damn fault that you have no family around you.

Admin - thanks for the information. I read that you should save your organic dollars for produce that you eat whole or don't peel like strawberries, grapes, peppers, apples, peaches, etc. I grow a lot of my own vegetables, but not fruits.

Dwindle, I remember doing that with my daughter when she was around 2 years old. She woke up with a red rash all over her body and the ped recommended putting her in a tub with baking soda. I put her in there and she cried and wanted to come out. It was in the summer so I just kicked off my sandals and got in the tub with her, shorts and all. I held her on my chest and rubbed her back while gently splashing the water on her. She calmed down and laid her head on my shoulder while I splashed her with the water.

I took her to the doctor later that day just because the rash didn't seem to be going away. It ended up being a heat rash for the humid weather we were having.

Anyhow, I can't imagine Kate doing whatever it takes to ease a child's discomfort to make them feel better. It's just not in her nature, and that's sad.

'Drive to lots of stores' to buy stuff? Is that some kind of new age thing? That's how Kate saves, by spending gas to drive 'hither thither and yon' to save 5cents on green peppers that she could be growing on her own? "Yes, the unnamed food I buy is very expensive, but hey, I'm worth it."

And 'check this website for coupons'. WOW! AMAZING TIPS!

And how did she save money by shoving her entitled kids into the tail end of someone else's ongoing project? Since SHE is the one who brought it up again.

Regarding Mr Rogers; shortly after the time of his death I had the opportunity to see and hold the authentic Daniel Striped Tiger.

Regarding Organics; If I had known then what I know now, I would have moved heaven and earth to give my kids only organic dairy and meat. All three of my daughters have 'female' problems and I blame the hormones in dairy and meat, in part. My son does not have any health problems at age 26, but he is my youngest and by then I was buying more organic. I dont know, I just regret it so much. But I agree, to Kate it is a label, she thinks it means added nutrition somehow. And she doesnt provide her children milk anyway except on stale cereal, and she admits that 1 pound of ground beef feeds all 8 children for a meal, so it's probably not a big deal.

The woman was clear across the country and she didn't want to hear about her own kids unless there was something wrong!! (actually, make that ! Unbelievable. She doesn't have a compassionate bone in her body for anyone.

LoveMyGrandsons said...

Auntie Ann, you're right, I forgot about those orders to Jon. Years ago, when my daughter was 6 or 7, I had to go on a business trip for 3 days that I couldn't get out of. My husband was a truck driver at the time and didn't have a set schedule; he would be home anywhere from 6 in the evening to midnight, depending on the job and where he had to drive to. Therefore, we asked our daughter's sitter who was a close family friend, and my daughter absolutley loved, if she would take her for the 3 days and she said of course.

While I was gone, I called my daughter every night to ask about school, homework, how her day was, and to tell her I loved her. My husband also did the same thing if he got home early enough. Otherwise, he called her in the morning while she was having breakfast and talked to her.

I just can't imagine being a parent on the road and NOT wanting to talk to your kids. Then again, if you never went out of your way to bond with them and just saw them as little ATM's, I suppose you wouldn't care to talk to them.

Mona, I can't relate to that myself. I guess I could spend money on $150 shoes, but I just don't find it money well spent. You can get a very good pair of exercise shoes for under $100. Frankly you can get a very good pair of whatever shoes you want for under $100 and often much less. Even if I'm a millionaire someday I don't think I'll ever relate to this kind of ridiculous spending. It's just not me.

Kate's blog posts sound like parodies to me. Here poor folk out there, here's a coupon for caviar and cashmere, now go have fun out there! I don't believe for a second every last one of her sheeple hasn't been offended by her at some point.

I had to join in on the shoe conversation. I have low back pain and that has translated into really bad pain in my hips. One thing that helped considerably was buying New Balance 846 which runs about $125. Ouch but hey it helped a lot.

Then, I started physical therapy and my therapist and I were talking and I mentioned how the shoes had helped but I was a bit peeved because I really couldn't afford to spend $125 every 3-4 months on a new pair of shoes.

She asked if I also wore support insoles which I do - Superfeet green. I bought them on the recommendation of the sales associate at the shoe store I go to. She told me that because I have fallen arches it's the arch support the insoles are providing that makes the biggest difference, not what brand of shoe I buy. She did recommend changing shoes and insoles every 3-6 months depending on how much you wear them because the shoe does stretch out, but reeboks or skechers from Sears would work just as well as New Balance.

So lesson learned and gratefully so.

Just my two cents on running. I am 52 years old and have always been active. I was an avid power walker but found that it did not do enough for me cardio wise especially keeping up with my active grandson. So about 18 months ago I got a treadmill and decided to start running. It took me a few months to get up to three miles a day. I do it five mornings a week when I first get up and so far no injuries. Don't know how I'll be down the road, but hopefully I will be able to continue. It has also allowed me to run with my grandson (who is now four years old) around our neighborhood, which is one of his favorite forms of exercise. I feel great when I am done but it is something I don't really enjoy. I have no desire to run any races, or even outside (except the little distance with my grandson). I do it to stay in shape and for him.

As for Kate's "healthy" diet. I am the same height as her and the same weight (if what she claims is true) but I have a big appetite. I eat healthy but I eat. I could never get through the day eating just what she eats. I would be eating the bark off the nearest tree if that is all I was ingesting. No wonder she is exhausted all the time. I have 15 years on her and I rarely feel the exhaustion she seems to feel on a regular basis.

I have to make a short comment on her hair. I was a natural blonde until I was about 19/20 years old. It then started turning that mousey blondes that most blondes go through. I let it go until I was mid thirties when I started to notice the gray. I have a great hairdresser who colored my hair to a nice blonde. Get the roots down every six weeks. My hair is about the length of my shoulder blades. Won't go any longer at my age. But it is not dry or fried looking like hers and I believe that that is directly related to a great hairdresser, healthy diet and drinking lots of water. The age old adage of you are what you eat.

I try not to get on a soap box about my nutrition beliefs, but you might want to read a book called The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell, PhD. This book changed my diet, and ultimately, my life.

The China Study also examines the source of nutritional confusion produced by powerful lobbies, government entities, and irresponsible scientists."

ABC showed a lot of potential contestants for DWTS All Stars. There must have been 20 people shown in total. As I said before, some had already won the competition. Why bring them back? I would want to see only the winners compete against each other(for an "Ultimate DWTS title") and not with the near winners. Or, even more so, the near winners compete against each other and not with the winners. Why show both? Why have a rerun of the winners competing against the near winners? That is basically the regular show. They are just teasing the viewers. As a longtime viewer of DWTS it looks like an exciting season....I just hope Kate won't be on it. She will just make a mockery out of the whole thing. I do think if she is going to be on the show she is PRACTICING HER FAT ASS OFF!! Just to show she was wronged on the previous show. Be glad you dont have a teenage Skateboarder in your family. Talk about shoe prices...

My son skates about 20-30 hours a week. The shoes are about $45-55 typically but he burns through them in about 4-5 weeks. They all have a torn hole where the right toe is from using that foot to flip the board in the air.

A couple of his friends have recently been sponsored by shoe companies so there *IS* hope around the corner. Maybe.

I always buy myself last years shoe models at half price. I am a cheapskate with my casual shoes and rarely spend over $25-30 on my own. I never knew I had it backwards and should be buying myself $150 golf shoes and giving my son used skate shoes ...

I think that the package that she sent off with a prayer and sealed with a kiss was signed paperwork stating that she's available. She's not the ratings draw that she still seems to think she is. Didn't one article say that she barely made a ripple at the race on CT? Who knows, maybe they will ask her back so they can kick her off first. She doesn't have the TLC backing anymore so scores would probably be a bit more realistic.

I totally think so too. It was a contract committing to it, the time period, the salary, and so on, but only if they select her. Kate is third or forth string in the pool of two or three spots they have reserved for controversial contestants. Kate WAS one of their most controversial but there are definitely others out there that could fit the bill. I'm not sure Kate knows herself if she's going to be on yet. She's an alternate. Which is why she is playing coy. She wants everyone to think she might be on and speculate. When she does get on she can say sorry I wasn't allowed to say! Now here's the REAL money saving tip. I went on to Amazon and searched for the "model number" before the newest one. For example the Mizuno Wave Creation 13 was DOUBLE the price of the previous model and there wasn't much of a difference between the too. So for $80 I got killer running shoes.

I do, however, believe that Kate's value to DWTS begins and ends with the All-Star cast announcement. She generates buzz beforehand, in that people are either strongly opposed to/supportive of her being on the show. But there's a fine line they don't want to cross here--selecting Kate as an "All-Star" will most certainly harm their credibility. A ratings ploy is one thing, but people don't like to be played.

The China Study also examines the source of nutritional confusion produced by powerful lobbies, government entities, and irresponsible scientists."
____

I'll have to take a look at this, thanks.

The connection between industry, government and big pharma/scientists is creating a population of chronically ill patients who turn to pills to fix their self-inflicted ill health. It's a financially based system, not one that is based on well being.

And that's about as close to the soap box I will get or else I will REALLY start ranting, lol.

Thank you, Adm, and Heather for your valuable info re organic foods. Adm, this is something that would never have even occurred to me...excellent observation.

A couple of years ago I bought organic celery. I have a large, counter-height Boos Block cutting board in the middle of my kitchen. I opened the celery, put it on top of the board, turned my back to get a knife to start cleaning/prepping it, and when I turned back around saw two of the biggest, nastiest insects I've ever seen in my life running across the top of my cutting board.

Have also found live bugs in the expensive live herbs sold at supermarkets. Still buy them but not as frequently as I used to.

When a fan asked her about running a half marathon in Hershey on Oct 21, she tweeted:

"that's right in middle of my tight squeeze: full marathon, 10K, then half within weeks of each other" and "I'm supposed 2 do a full then a 10k 2wks later then a half 2 weeks after that this fall"

If she is only doing Rock n Roll races, there are only 2 marathons scheduled that fit this time period--Denver on 9/22 and Montreal on 9/23. The NY 10K is scheduled on 10/13 and the LA half is scheduled on 10/28. These also fit the time frame she mentioned.

DWTS fall season usually begins the 3rd week in September. Last year it started on 9/19. The cast announcement is usually 3 weeks prior to the first airing of the show. The contestants start practicing right after the announcement is made.

So which would Kate choose? Making a fool of herself again on DWTS, or showing the world what a super duper runner she is?

Either way, it sure looks like she'll be spending quite a bit of time away from her kids.

TLC stinks said...

I do not watch DWTS, but if the show has any integrity, in a perfect world the producers should be interested in presenting a first class show for viewers. However, ratings are king. Perhaps we should just not speculate as DWTS will interpret this that Kate is still relevant and a ratings draw for the fans and nonfans. I cannot stand all the online tab chatter that Kate is even being considered. She is basking in this. Really, there's not a thing we can do or say that will influence DWTS.

I'm not at all convinced she'll be on DWTS All-Stars. It all boils down to money and ratings. Like admin said, there are SO many others who can generate real interest besides Kate. WE still know who she is, but 99% of the viewing audience (or more!) has utterly forgotten her, if they even knew who she was in the first place (I know people who still aren't sure who she is/what she did--lucky souls).

I'm voting she won't be on.

Doing on DWTS again, will be the final turn of Kate's loose screw.

If true, maybe we will see some actual friends and family members attend the tapings this time around. Zero people came to cheer the beast on, during this ships' Maiden Voyage. So much for rooting for the Underdog, huh? Certainly not when she's a despised grifter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ohhhhhh Noooooooooooo! I've been busy preparing for my son's grad. party this weekend, and I check in to find the Kart might be getting another chance to be pushed around!
Ugh. I look at it this way- Kate needs them, they don't need her. When Tom Bergeron asks her "so,what have you been up to since we last saw you Kate?" all she's done is get booted off TLC, maybe run a marathon (if there wasn't some sneaker switching) and arrange pool towels on a shelf, labeled 'adults' and 'kids'.
Hopefully, they would stipulate that she cannot go all diva this time. No berating her partner for her inability to dance, no demands that no one look at her, no treating the hair and makeup people like dirt.
Two years have made a big difference. No one is handing fame and money on a platter to her anymore and her terrible disposition has bitten her in her flat ass- big time. If she does this, she's going to have to actually work and be pleasant and gracious. If she doesn't, she's just adding more nails in her coffin.
I believe reality shows have seen their heyday. Tonight Bristol Palin's reality show will debut on Lifetime. The Washington Post tv reviewer panned the show.
******
My favorite line: "The glare never ended, mostly because Bristol keeps reaching to turn the switch back on".
This article could have and should have been written about Kate Plus 8, right down to Bristol wondering why she can't escape criticism and acting like a victim, when the answer is to pull the damn plug. How this eludes her leaves one's mouth gaping, eyeballs rolling and head shaking.
As for DWTS, I really don't care if Kate is on. I'm certain that another gig on the show won't lead to her "big break" or anything else that can repair her deservedly tarnished image. She will dissolve into twitterdom once again, after the rounds of TV appearances are done.
And, she'll forget that CC even exists.
My guess is that Kate won't get on DWTS again. She was a draw the first time-- someone who people love to hate and a car wreck that necks are poised to crane at. Now, I believe that people are beyond Kate fatigue. They don't want to hate her, they want her to go away.
Furthermore, I think people (like me) would tune out until she no longer litters the tube.
I want Kate to be successful at something. The children need a mom who is thriving. That household needs income.
*******
It's a shame that Kate doesn't feel that supporting her kids with a mediocre job is "success".
I think she's failing horribly right now. The fact that Kate has not in any way attempted to further her nursing career, a solid, safe, rewarding, fortunate career to be in, is very sad.
The occasional "talk" or appearance, the "runs" here and there, her anemic blog and poorly written and utterly unhelpful coupon missives are no way to support 8 children for the long term.
And Jon's life choices for the kids are mediocre? That's a laugh. At least Jon's choices have led to consistent income as he slowly rebuilds his life and career in a sustainable fashion.
Hi Heather. I did see that you asked this yesterday and I meant to respond and never got a round tuit. (My lame joke, sorry.)
No one really knows what that is. This person popped up on Kate's twitter a few months ago, saying "I know what you did and soon the world will know too." I for one hope to heaven it has nothing to do with Jon.
Whoever it is, they claim the received a Cease and Desist letter from Kate's lawyer, which seemed to rattle this Gosselinbook person for a minute. Then they likely found out it was nearly meaningless.
But we will see apparently in 2 days or so.
Gang, did I leave out anything?
These bugs may be natural insecticides used or encouraged by the organic growers. Organic and fresh from the farmers market produce will tend to have a higher incidence of bugs, dirt and blemishes.
A favorite story I like to tell about prepping farmers market produce is about mustard greens I bought from a particular producer. I bought a huge bunch of mustards, placed them in my refrigerator in a plastic bag with a paper towel in it. A week, a full week later, I pulled them out to prep (still fresh as a daisy) and lo and behold, I found a ladybug (a very beneficial bug for gardens), so chilly and cold, barely able to move. In fact, I thought it was a bit of dirt at first. I used a piece of paper to pick it up and put it outside in the sunshine. After a minute, it stretch its wings a couple times and then ZOOM! off it flew!
No kidding, same thing happened 2 weeks later!
Last time Kate was on DWTS she had something to offer.
She had her own show on TV the pap and magazines were following. Her she was doing interviewer after interview and she looked good.
So what do she have to offer now?...
She's not to TV due to being cancelled she's not really in the mag or tabloids anymore.
Everything she now touches seems to fail. She doesn't even look the same as she did two years ago.
And she can't claim poor with all the vacations and car she brought and she begging to be back on TV.
Dwindle- if you have zucchini and tomatoes on hand, perhaps make a "cacciatore" with chicken. I just made a huge batch (don't worry, won't make DH eat it 3 days in a row!) and used yellow squash, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, creminis, marinara (omg, so good from last year's tomatoes), fresh herbs and shredded chicken from a Costco rotisserie.
So easy, cheap, delicious and good for you.
Dwindle: "I am in need of some dinner ideas for tonight."
Try stuffed zucchini - a hit in our house. Cut the zucchini lengthwise, scoop our some of the insides and reserve. Mix your favorite protein-based salad - tuna, salmon, chicken - you can also add bread crumbs to the mix and stuff the zucchini, bake until the zucchini is soft. You can also precook the zucchini to make it quickly. A sprinkle of your favorite cheese and/or herbs on top and voila, a main dish meal.
Kate will blow off those runs in favor of being back on DWTS. I don't even think she has the smarts to do it for redemption, to improve her skills and actually listen. She is so entrenched in her beliefs there is no room for growth, she reached her mental age at 14, and that is where she remains.
For DWTS it is about ratings, and they know everyone loves a train-wreck, and Kate is their gal for that. If anything, they will play up her diva behavior this time around to satisfy her former partner, et all (IMO). That may very well be the trade-off to the people behind the scenes, to expose the "real" Kate.
I have always had suspicion around the cruise cancellation and preparation for this season of DWTS. My bet says she is back on, but this time she will stay in L.A. and forego the training at home as the kids are older now and the "babysitters" (code for nannies) will take over. After all, this is just another "sacrifice" this working mother must make for her kids.
Some of this DWTS talk coincides with Jon's comment a few weeks back on a radio show that said (and I paraphrase) "I want Kate to be successful, if she is successful then it's good for our kids."
It also coincides with Jon getting more custody time and having more time with the kids as he now works near his home.
However if she runs out to LA for this show (and she'll last maybe one or two weeks) She'll be blowing her newfound fan base of runners. She's up between a rock and a hardplace.
The other thing that's coming up is her Coupon Cabin Gig being renewed. Should be interesting to see what happens.
The gosselinbook thing:
My big question is this--if you really have dirt on Kate, GOOD dirt, and you're really coming out with something, why beat your chest about it more than a month before?
I mean, I know the obvious reason is to drum up interest.
But for the last couple of weeks (or more?) gosselinbook has been quiet. There was that ONE blog entry about libel, etc etc (kind of hard to read, actually) and then nothing. There haven't been any tweets lately.
I'm in the camp of "I'll believe it when I see it."
Given the shenanigans a few of the Kate haters on twitter have gotten up to, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it were one of the wackier ones.
So basically, Heather, there just isn't a whole lot to say about it. Yet? Or maybe there never will be a lot to say about it. We'll see, I guess. If they really have nothing, they were silly to do a countdown clock.
In addition to 99% of Kate's "followers" being bought & paid for shills, a couple months ago the gals at Preesi's discovered that when they clicked on Kate's website of mediocrity, each click added 10 page views, not one. Surely, Kate thinks she's so clever and that no one would ever know, so we'll just let her continue to think she's getting away with buying twatters and padding numbers.
---------
I don't think so at all. The simple fact is next to no one signed up for the cruise and if they announced the cancelation any later the cruisers whom had signed up wouldn't have gotten full refunds. There would have been some heck to pay then. If DWTS was considering Khate, the last 2 months should have fully convinced them how over she is. No news on her mother's day speech, a very bad bit on the Today show, a few pics from a half marathon and nothing national even after dragging the kids (the really money makers) to another race. People have forgotten who she is and don't want to be reminded.
Tweet-le De Tweet-le DUMB said...
Saying Kate cancelled the cruise because she's going on DWTS negates the fact that the cruise was cancelled due to lack of interest. As for her being on the show I highly doubt it.
The only thing that might be holding her back IF she is invited back on DWTS is the hard work involved. She cried and bellyached through the last session. Other than that it would have everything she loves all wrapped up in a neat package...a trip to CA, exposure on tv, rubbing elbows with celebs, a swag bag full of free shit, time away from those exhausting children and most of all big $$$. She doesn't mind making an ass of herself if there's money involved, it's the work she has to put in to earn it.
So which is it, lack of participation or DWTS to explain the cruise cancellation? I tend to believe the cruise cancellation opened the door for her to try to get back on DWTS. Does anyone recall when she mailed off that mysterious packet? I believe the cruise cancellation was early May? Rather than have 20 people show up,I believe Kate cancelled the cruise then grabbed the opportunity to push for DWTS. That's my theory anyway. DWTS probably has approached her, but she's not a go yet. Hopefully never. Like I said, Teflon Kate.
