Dance Moms chassés its way to stage exploitation

What does a fake reality show do to a real kid's psyche?

Dance Moms, about a no-nonsense, abrasive Pittsburgh dance teacher and her young students, is turning into Jon and Kate Plus 8's biggest rival for Pennsylvania's most exploited kids. From ranking the girls in a pyramid each week, to filming the girls sad and crying when they make mistakes, to all the fighting that happens in front of the kids, this show is hot on our radar.

But turns out, even the star of the show admits a lot of it is fake.

When asked about the infamous pyramid, in which the same girl is usually on the top, dance teacher Abby Lee Miller told TV Guide:
I've never done that in my life. That has nothing to do with me. That's the show. They came up with that whole process. The whole pyramid thing was for the show because we could not do a new solo for every single child, and a new group and new duets and trios every single week. There's just not time available.

As for the constant competitions in which the girls have just a week to learn their routines, Miller said:
All these competitions we're attending, I've never attended in my life. Teaching children a routine in a hotel hallway that they are performing onstage the next day? That's insane. Nobody would do that.

But Miller does admit she likes the perks of a reality show:
For the first time in my life at my age, I was at a dance convention, not sleeping on a roll-away, not on an air mattress with seven other kids in my room, but I actually had my own room. I thought, at this point in my life, I have done amazing things and I have dedicated my entire life — I don't have a husband, I don't have children — to my students. And this involves me. And it's the only thing I've ever done for myself and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

So, real little girls living real lives. But, fake ones, sort of. A lot of it. Has Lifetime thought at all about the psychological implications this fake reality is having on little hearts and minds?

This pertains to kate and WORST reality tv personalities (altho its for DWTS):

Kate Gosselin 48%(2,612 votes)
NaOnka Mixon 16.6%(903 votes)
Courtney Robertson 10.5%(569 votes)
Gretchen Jones 6.4%(351 votes)
Jonathan Baker and Victoria Fuller 6.2%(337 votes)
Other 5.2%(284 votes)
Vicky Vilcan 4.3%(232 votes)
Marcel Vigneron 2.9%(156 votes)
... that's a really huge margin she is winning by 2612 votes out of (I think it said 5244 votes and it's too late and I'm too tired to total it myself)... so seeee, she CAN be a winner!

I hate to say it but I'm not sure about that poll. Is it just me? I don't even know who the rest of those people are. Not a single one. Of course Kate will win she's a lot more recognized. Give the woman some real competition.

No, it's not just you. I thought the same thing. I don't recognize any of the names. Assuming they are all reality TV people? Been a few hours since I looked at it so I don't remember.

Like I said before, Kate is so well disliked for her attitude. She could change it if she wanted to but she won't ever see it, nope it's everyone else's fault. How can someone be so bitter about life all the time?

I have never seen Dance Mom except for a commercial or two. I don't know about you but I am sick of parents putting their kids on TV all the time. Or is that all kids these days are interested in? Being famous? Wasn't there a time where being on TV was considered, I don't know, kind of horrible? I may be wrong but I mean back in the day I guess is what I'm getting at.

Never been to PA, but I wold love to visit Vermont in the autumn!

Great topic, Admin!

I have just begun watching Dance Moms this season. I haven't sorted out all of my thoughts about this yet, but here are some of my very disjointed first thoughts.

This type of pressure is not unusual in sports. Zero tolerance for lateness, dress code violations, etc. are common in athletics--even when it is the parent's fault.m This level of dancing is serious business--similar to club teams for elite athletes. The parents are investing an enormous amount of time, and, no doubt, a small fortune for travel costumes, etc.  I am sure these girls practice at the studio, for at least a few hours, 4-6 days a week--we are seeing a fraction of their time with Abby. It is downright laughable that Kate thinks that any of her kids could land any kind of role on the Disney station--These girls are their competition!

Whether a camera is on them or not, there will always be children participating in extreme activities--be it athletics, academics, musical instruments, Olympic hopefuls, etc. This show shines a light on them, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Whether the pressure is healthy for them, IMO, depends on how stable and supportive their home life is and  whether they have learned healthy ways to deal with stress. Some kids really thrive in high pressure situations and have an internal drive to succeed, while others are thrust into the limelight by parents who are trying to recover their lost dreams. Every parent who has kids in sports, asks themselves, at one time or another, whether it is worth the heartache and pain.

I am not surprised that the pyramid was made up. The girls really don't seem to get that caught up in it--It's just something to get the Moms going.

I am NOT endorsing Abby's methods--clearly they are controversial and I'm can certainly see where some  view her as abusive. I would not allow my kids to participate in that type of an environment because I think it is important to be well-rounded. But then, I have mediocre kids!  I look forward to hearing what others have to say about this.

JudyK said...

Ex Nurse, I totally agree with your assessment.

First, I don't like the comparison between Abbey and Kate's show, for example, because these little girls CHOSE to be dance students, which requires hours and hours of practice, determination, and discipline. These children are thinking way ahead toward careers on broadway, etc.--and, by the way, Abbey has produced many such dancers.

Second, I like Abbey a lot...I've been watching the show since it started. Abbey truly cares about these kids and their futures. She is tough as nails, but she has a soft heart underneath it all, and I've seen her cry when a student does well. She's loud, yes, but that's just who she is--I see as her just being very firm. There have been a few times I've thought she was over the top, but the girls understand her. Any tough competition is going to occasionally result in tears.

Third, this show is much more about the mothers who are out of control, alcoholic, screaming banshees...they scream, backstab, and fight constantly...that is, when they aren't drinking. The kids basically ignore them.

My criticism about this show comes not from Abbey's methods, which I agree are controversial, but from the mothers, who are not setting good examples for their children in terms of the way the mothers themselves act or in terms of learning good sportsmanship.

All of the children in this show are great kids, with amazing talent, who will one day be rewarded for their hard work with lucrative careers.

Those girls are great dancers. It takes hard work, dedication and sacrifice to get to that point for the students, the moms and the coach. Like Abby Lee says some of those girls will get full scholarships to an Ivy League college especially Mady, Chloe and Brook.

The moms are very good if it is staged. They make the real housewives look downright frumpish and amateurish. They should not do it in front of the kids even if they are in on it and keep it in their arena high above the stage. But in the land of UN-reality TV, those could be retakes after the dance. The whole thing with Peyton and her mom seemed to be staged and Kendall's mom seems to be a plant. But to me Kathy is the best and she wasn't on last night. She is able to do it without shouting and I have known people like her before. But nobody can one up Abby Lee Miller.

In the end watching the girls dance is the reason I watch.

Sorry, I don't know how to do what you can click on to bring up articles, but for the poll on worst reality tv personalities just search... kate gosselin The Clicker poll or anything similar.

The other people were from Survivor Nicaragua, Top Chef, Project Runway, The Bachelor, Amazing Race, Fear Factor and Biggest Loser. So some don't recognize any of their names, just remember a lot of people never watched the witch and wouldn't recognize her name. I loved watching the show when it first came out and the tups were so little and cute. Into the first season I watched because I was amazed at the constant illustrations showing there were no limits to her rudeness and how far she would go with it. And by then I was following with a group on Z on TV and got into the fight for the kids. As a mother of kids and grandkids I had an interest in this family and its plight. With that type of mindset, "I" have no interest in the survivor, fear factor, amazing race type shows; have never watched top chef/project runway or biggest loser; and have no patience for the bachelor or bachelorette shows (to "me", they are the biggest losers). So I have no recognition of the other names either.

We have talked a lot about kate and her ego and how important she thinks she is. This is all in her head. She is not known by many people, example, the whole contingent that would watch the 'action' type shows above. The poll #'s have gone up, 5762 total votes and she now has votes in the high 2700's. It is a fair poll in my opinion as they were comparing a varied # of reality shows and polling a varied audience which naturally would not be interested in shows in every category. But as is usual for her, when it comes to a negative poll, she can get the #'s. It's just when you're going for 'good' #'s, not so much (like her measly 70K followers on Twitter).

Here we go again with the "determination" day. She's determined that a job will fall in her lap...Why doesn't she come back to reality and open the want ads? Also..I have to think that it's very hard to start a thread about her...when she's got nothing going on in her life. Kate's becoming a real bore...no job...no love life...nothing to talk about..Although, I have confidence she will do or say something stupid very soon...

Her tweet regarding the sock darning is ridiculous and a very calculated lie. Whenever she grifts, she mentions something and lo and behold, some dumb sheeple will mail it to her. Stand by for packages of socks to arrive. If she can't afford a package of socks at Target for her kid, then she needs to get a job. Just another lame attempt to pass herself off as a super mom (and what does darning a sock have to do with that?!)

Once a Viewer said...

I watch Dance Moms with my daughter. It is definitely staged- I agree with Pity Party re: PeyTon and her mom, and now Jill- poor Kendall looks sort of lost- what a beautiful child- I wonder if she too is adopted like Vivi-Anne from last season. I think the girls' reactions are usually real, but they are nonetheless competing, and having private moments filmed. I don't object as much as to J&K since these kids are older and their moms don't allow their home life to be filmed ( usually, except the odd staged scene) I think they are a great bunch of talented girls and so sweet to one another. The moms are made out to be crazier and more aggressive than they probably are...same with Abby. I'm sure she's not as horrible as portrayed...but I wonder if seeing someone act like that was taken as a leaf from the book of Kate the Great?- her legacy to 'real' reality shows.

I just had to comment on Kate sewing a sock. Who in the world sews socks, it should be darn socks. My father was in the army and learned how to darn socks using a light bulb. I remember when I was very young sitting down with him and he would teach me how to darn the family's socks while telling me all kinds of stories and tales. Such good memories. I cannot imagine Kate darning socks, it would be so below her to do. I agree with everyone here, it is just another way to grift.

I haven't watched Dance Moms, so I put it in the same category as Toddlers and Tiaras, but it seems it's not. Thanks for the enlightening commentary here.
The girls seem nice and Abbey seems like a very alpha woman for better and worse. Evidently, she's effective and successful? It that the draw, or is it just moms who want to be on tv with their ids?
That "Minister" mom seems like a nut ball, however.

Those sugary tweets coated with inspiration coming from KG make feel a bit nauseated. Attack the day, right. Dreams yes, many, many dreams. Anyone who watches that show from beginning to end and does not see how lazy she is must be watching with a blind eye. They want her to be all these things that she pretends to be and KT is more than willing to comply, as long as those cards and letters and packages keep coming.

It would not surprise me that she sends to the kids to school with darned socks from what we have seen in the photographs - shirts way too big, sleeves covering their hands in a program, pant hems turned up on the outside to the knee. Mended socks - oh yeah.

mscatie said...

I have to agree with Pink #20. Even under the best of circumstances, I can't think it's ever in a child's best interest to have what should be private emotional moments broadcast to a public viewing audience. IMO it's sensationalism for monetary gain and it's the kids that suffer.

Regarding Trolls @6

That's their nature. If you've ever read anything coming from the fans and non-fans, all they know how to do is insult. Their intelligence level is such that they are not capable of any discussion, so all they have left are nasty insults and personal attacks. It's what they do best, and only what they do. It's kind of sad, actually, to think that they don't know the meaning of the word polite, nor respect, and have to resort to these tactics to get attention. It's all they know and so they keep doing it. It must be horrible to live that way.

Katie Cry-duh said...

These days, if your sock is so worn that it's got holes, then it's not worth a darn. Teehee. But seriously, these are growing children's socks and if Kate can afford three cars and all those slutty clothes and Botox treatments, then she can afford to buy some new socks for the kids. Old socks thin out, lose their elasticity (like Kate's face and neck) and so why darn them if you don't have to? Is she trying, foolishly, to appear frugal for CC? Because this is just plain dumb of her. Agreed that she'll soon tweet about churning butter, or some other such unnecessary chore to make her life more difficult. Yes, we live in a disposable society, but that's just silly. Plus, the kids' socks always looked brand new, as in just having the tags pulled off, on the show. Now she's acting like they're living in a dickens novel?

Once a Viewer said...

Yes, she just tore open bags of socks at the shoe store in the two back to school episodes...now she has to 'sew'- yes, she means darn. I have tried darning but all I get is a lump sure to cause blisters, and only with a pair I really liked the pattern etc of...I'm sure she will soon be receiving new socks, something to heat her house??, the new treadmill, what else? Her own 'care'(hair, nails, tan) & clothing I guess is more important than the kids' comfort.

oh, and not that it matters, Dance Moms is on Lifetime!

Is she nuts? How does she know the fan doesn't have some horrible injury (she seems to think this doesn't happen because it's just running, what an idiot, running can be just as dangerous as contact sports) and now she's just masking it with ibuprofen and going out to run making it worse.

This woman is going to find herself in a lawsuit.

He cracks me up. I *have* to throw things away as I come across them in the laundry. What DH will continue to wear would crack any gal up.
Big hole in sock? Who cares? Hole in underwear? Still works!
I think it's a guy thing.
But, I'm a stickler about it. On occassion, an item of clothing can be taken to the dry cleaners to be repaired. Only if the repair will hardly be noticed will I do that. Otherwise, it gets tossed.
I'd never sew socks now. We both just have too many other pairs to care.
Again, will recommend to anyone who exercises or even just for everyday wear, treat yourselves to a couple pairs of Thorlos. They're expensive in the whole sock realm, but so worth it.

Here is the original tweet. She's very vague. She doesn't say it's just muscle soreness. Just that her body hurts/kills.

It could be anything! She could have a serious injury. You should be sore if you've pushed yourself, but hurt/kill is a whole other level that is concerning. What the hell is Kate thinking giving her medical advice based on just this tweet? What the hell is Kate thinking telling her to run again. Hopefully no one blows a knee out or keels over or worse.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Once a Viewer, in your esteem opinion as a nurse, do you think that sheep should take Ib and go running again, or call her doctor?

Once a Viewer said...

Well, call her dr of course!! I'm not an orthopedic nurse and either was Kate..I agree with what you said. You cannot give advice to someone on the internet who you don't even know or have never seen, plus nurses do not diagnose, just suggest for a person to see a dr. ibuprofen and ice would help, then see then see a dr if it's a specific pain or ig it's all-over aches, rest etc. Never go out and exacerbate an injury. As you mentioned the person could have other ailments like diabetes etc that could really cause problems if the person went out running feeling so badly..

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

LOL thanks Once.

Telling her to go run again when all the info Kate has is that she is in pain (it KILLS according to the sheep) is ridiculous. Good point about diabetes or other things going on. Maybe she's fine but until a doctor or even trainer talks to her, wtf!

Tucker's Mom said...

Agreed! You can not prescribe over the phone, over the internet, over Twitter. A physician or clinician must do a physical examination and perhaps order diagnostic tests to determine a differential diagnosis and course of treatment--it's grossly negligent to do otherwise.
Even more basic is that this tweeter needs rest. Meds? I don't know. But, to offer that the tweeter should not rest, but prescribe medication and tell her to run is beyond ill-advised.
Also, if a runner has an overuse injury, one way to keep them conditioned and not exacerbate the pain and allow healing is to cross-train, which Kate simply refuses to do. I think she was even as dumb as to cite time-constraints as the reason she doesn't. That's not a reason when she spends hours running. Dividends will diminish if you do not condition your body to take the orthopedic beating that is the sport of running.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think a doctor, nurse or trainer who knows what they are doing (this is key) can give general running advice over the internet or phone IF you have a heck of a lot more information. But I think the buck stops when someone starts talking about feeling injured.

Even Kaiser has a nurse hotline where they will help you over the phone, but it's after asking you fifteen or more questions. And often their answer is of course, we can't help you you have to see a doctor. But I used to call them a lot when I had stomach problems and they were really helpful.

Kate needs to know wayyyyy more information about the runple before even beginning to suggest medication much less, go out and run again! Information that has no business being on twitter, like general health, history, meds, etc. She is reckless at BEST.

Dallas Lady said...

If you darn a sock, you need to use wider, flatter "thread" than what you would normally use to sew something. That way you don't bunch up the material and create a super uncomfortable sock. It's possible and I've done it, but not in a long time.

The ACTUAL truth is probably that Kate's "helper girl" was there last night and she had HER darning socks (and probably did not know how) because damn if Kate is going to spend one single unnecessary penny on those kids.

More and more, the kids will be wearing clothes too big for them (which we've already seen), adult-sized gloves (already seen in that "took me an hour to get them dressed to play in the snow" pic), uncomfortably repaired socks, etc. while she's still running around tanning, getting her nails done, trying to grift hair services (I am convinced Jason is done with her) and driving her Audi she'd never give up.

So those kids will look like ragamuffins living in a very expensive house and attending an expensive private school.

(As long as THOSE things last, that is.)

She's pathetic.

And as for her "inspirational" tweets, etc. she needs to tweet less and take more action re: getting a real job that actually comes with a paycheck instead of grifting coffee creamer and socks and trips to run marathons (notice we've heard nothing further about that?).

The state of entries on this blog reflects her growing invisibility on the public radar. As she falls off it, there's less and less to say about her, which I say is a good thing! (Still love the blog, though.)

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The problems with this just go on and on. If Kate is telling her to take IB (how much, I have some whopper perscribed 800 mg ones of those), she might just be MASKING the pain. Sometimes you need to feel your pain to know when to stop. Pain has a purpose sometimes, to let us know how far we can push ourselves. If you mask it, how will you know? In fact I don't think you're supposed to take pain-masking meds at all for most sports for that very reason. If you need a pain-masking med, you're BENCHED. Taking meds like that then going to work out is like running around with a blindfold--dumb.

++++++++++++++++++

Yes, you can, but you don't use an ordinary needle and thread. When I visited my friend who had the darning egg, she had a much heavier, flat thread in the basket. It's not a simple sew-up like you would do to mend something with a regular thread. If you do that, you'll end up with a patch that's bulky and uncomfortable, especially if the hole was in the toe, which is where it usually is.

Re: Running advice- Kate is not a trained runner and not a trained orthopedic nurse. There are certain things every nurse or regular person knows, but these sheeple do not seem bright- a lot of damage could be done by following Kate's advice. That's a good point about cross training-and also about pain being masked. The sheeple might have a bad injury combined with an illness and just take any old pain killer. Too funny... Just to give some validation to my fellow posters here; You know how we've felt so bad for especially the twins when Kate gets dressed like a hooker? With her skimpy, boob-bearing tops, Daisy Duke shorts and hooker heels?
Well, as I'm watching the very good looking and talented couple of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw on The View today, they got to talking about their 3 girls, ages 10-14. Sherry S. told Faith how good she looked at the Super Bowl (I think Faith appeared pre game in promos) and Faith said, OMG, my kids were so embarrassed by my pants!
Her paints were these turquoise blue, Olivia Newton John- as -Sandy- in- Grease lycra pants. Of course she rocked them, but :-)
They laughed and the couple talked further about how embarrassed the girls get by what they say and what they wear. It's such a sensitive age.
So yes, Kate is embarrassing her kids by walking around like a strumpet and it could be why Cara and Mady always look miserable when paps snap their photos while going to Target with Mom.

Let's see if there really are no laws for Kate. She is forever giving out medical advice to her tweeties, sight unseen and prescribing meds. which is illegal for her to do; she's not a Dr.

She thinks she has all the answers to running type injuries, because she 's a runner now. People label us on this blog for questioning what we think is wrong with Kate and we get called armchair Psychiatrists, etc.

Kate could drum up a new internet business from home,'Kall Kate", advice on living. What if that person was allergic to IB? I guess she could give darning sock lessons, hair and dress don'ts and how to ruin a marriage tips. She thinks she's a pro on everything; she doesn't even need to follow laws like speeding/parking.

She hasn't gotten any speeding tickets lately, but I guess there's nowhere she needs to go in a hurry anymore! hmmmmmm....

I don't know how much she is on Twitter other than what the feed is on this site. I suspect she is getting bored with it and her tween tweeties. Not the result she was hoping for. What a putz!

BINGO!

Time and time again, Kate has shown that perseverance is not her strong suit...she has a history of "flitting" from one new hobby to another one when the old hobby doesn't fulfill her bottomless void of need. Or endless trough - hee, I liked that from the previous entry!

Whether it's "organizing", "writing", "cooking", "couponing," or now, "twittering" - she gets burnt out pretty quickly. (I use quotes around those, as I don't want to give her too much credit in those particular "talents".)

Her twittering is getting fewer and farer between, as I imagine her running stints are, as well...time to move on to the next shiny, new object.

Kat said...

I don't hear her talking about running anymore..Maybe I'm not paying attention. Or maybe she's starting to realize that running isn't gonna pay the bills. I don't think any of these "hobbies" are panning out for her... as far as earning a living is concerned....

Westcoaster said...

Next shiny, new object: foam valentines! I am totally bemused by Kate buying kid's craft kits to make valentines for HER kids. They could have been finished by now, real working parents are the ones who pull all nighters to make things for their children. Again, WTF does she do all day long?

AuntieAnn said...

I can't watch the video, it's been blocked on copyright grounds in Canada.

Anyway, I think kids are under too much pressure at such a young age to be 'at the top' at anything these days. Healthy competition is fine but I think the message a lot of them are getting is that not being number one is something to be ashamed of. What happened to just encouraging children to do their best instead of turning them into piranhas to be recognized as THE best.

TLC stinks - I won't watch dance moms either. And every time I watch hoarders, I vacuum the house...just in case, you know, things get out of hand. ha.

And as to the previous thread...what the hell went on last night? Looks like the trolls were on a feeding binge.

(BTW I had to google an image of a darning egg, that's how much I know about darning socks, turns out I have one which I inherited from MIL in her sewing basket. So THAT'S what that thing is.)

TLC stinks said...

I think 2012 will be an eye opener for Katie Kreider. You guys are right. She tries new things, and they have not given her the recognition she wants let alone any substantial income. She has a cash cushion and all the talk of saving money and "sewing" socks is a joke for now, but it may not be such a joke if she doesn't face the fact that she is depleting her money because of her lifestyle. At present, she thinks she is too good to get a regular job. I say give it a year or two and she will really need to know how to darn socks and clip coupons. Not only that, but the kids, who are spoiled, will not handle it well.

Aeduko said...

Hi all, two things.

First, the article I read re Kate being most hated indicated that it was for her stint on Dancing with the Stars. It went into detail about her torturing her partner with her antics and how he quit once.

And now I have to say "I get it" re the anonymous thing. I read the last posts on the prior thread with the anonymous person commenting, and at first I thought it was just someone new, and then s/he continued with it, and now I think it was that person who always said "oh yes she does". I've done it. I just called someone a sheeple. Sigh.

TLC stinks said...

AuntieAnn, I didn't know there was such a thing as hoarding until I watched the show. I knew people who were slobs, but wow, I've never seen anything so disgusting. You can't make that stuff up. It's not acting. The families are in such distress I guess going on tv is the last resort.

hey jude said...

I tried watching that Hoarders show, but then I had to vacuum my bed before I could go to sleep! The woman on there slept with them walking all over the house, yuk.

My Mom saved everyone of my school books, and low and behold, there was a square scrap and inside it , a cloth that I had darned.I had forgotten learning that in Home Ec.

My Dad did buy me a treadle sewing machine for Gr.7- we had to have one.It sits in my kitchen still and it hems jeans better than any electric machine.

Have to go for a nap now, feeling very old....

JudyK said...

Auntie Ann, just reiterating what someone else said: Dance Moms is NOT on TLC; it is on Lifetime.

What I refuse to watch on TLC is "Toddlers & Tiaras"...that is child exploitation at its fullest, and I would think that TLC, with its recent problems with hiring a pedophile as a producer, would shy away from such programming. Why would ANY man want to judge babies/toddlers competing in provocative outfits...shivers up my spine.

The difference between the shows is that the "barely" toddlers on the TLC show are shoved into performing by their mothers, whereas, on the Lifetime series, the girls are older and have themselves chosen to be dancers. One girl even left, thinking she might prefer cheerleading, only to return--HER CHOICE. BIG DIFFERENCE.

AuntieAnn said...

Marie, TLC, Jude - I have no idea how anyone can exist in the kind of squalor they show on that program. It's obvious most of those people are in dire need of psychological help long before it gets to the point where they can't open their front door or their fridge door. Maybe some of them are just plain lazy but the majority surely do not really want to live that way. It's sad, really.

Is Kate ignoring Milo? I've seen only two tweets to her in the past five days. Or am I looking in the wrong place? Apparently she is trying to impress Kate with her walking, but it's not working, and she's crying for attention.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I wouldn't be surprised if Kate is getting as tired of Milo's complaints as the rest of us are.

I've known people like Milo. Their way of interacting with others is to tease them...constantly. They don't hesitate to bring up past situations that embarrass their friends. They're just teasing after all. Milo often brings up Kate's DWTS debacle just for laughs. I'm sure Kate doesn't think it's funny.

Milo is competitive, combative and insensitive, passive/aggressive. She lacks real skills of communication. Sounds like her husband is the same way.

Now she's an invalid and she's seeing another side of life.

I don't like people who tease and belittle. I think it's abusive and demeaning.

I think Milo needs to give up the pity party. Maybe she could find a blog where other people who are dealing with disabilities try to encourage others instead of looking to Kate for sympathy and inspiration. Others have it worse, Milo.

Anyone know what happened to her one-week guest host thingy? I read an old article (back when the show was first cancelled) and it said that she was finishing up the details to be a guest host for one week on either The View or The Talk. That was 5 months ago, and it hasn't happened. I'm guessing that deal fell through, but I hadn't heard whether there was a story behind it. Anyone know?

Let's see if there really are no laws for Kate. She is forever giving out medical advice to her tweeties, sight unseen and prescribing meds. which is illegal for her to do; she's not a Dr.

Why???

It's not like sympathy is some finite thing, I don't mean to imply that, but why spend your time and emotional energy feeling sorry for someone who has so much?

If Kate Gosselin has ANY shame whatsoever (doubtful), she should feel embarrassed about this. Totally embarrassed. And that lindaforrester person needs to get a clue.

If Abby is as devoted to the integrity of her work as she claims, she wouldn't sell out her principles for any amount of money a tv production company offered her. All these reality shows do is make weak people trade in their morals for cash.

Toddlers and Tiaras is off limits for me too. I watched a few minutes of it a couple of weeks ago for the first time and I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Okay, a little heads-up, Kate--TV execs don't want trashy people on their shows. Well, except for maybe a one-time stint on something like Hoarders. She may be getting coffee and socks, but she's losing out on a possible media career. She's giving up the opportunity for something big just so she can get something little. What happens when the kids are hungry, Kate, and all you have is Coffee Mate? When your house is foreclosed on (which WILL happen at the rate you're going), are you going to comfort your kids by reminding them that at least they got free socks?
Is that crap really worth giving up one's dignity for? Or is her dignity so far gone that all she has left is her desire for "stuff".
My mother used to warn me about people like her--she called them "NOCD" (Not Our Class, Dear). I used to think that was so stuffy, but it works here, doesn't it?

Dance moms, some more trash on TV. I watched it a couple of times, wanted to punch that Abby(or what ever her name is)? in the face. I also think the Duggars rating will tank after the next couple of shows, especially the funeral for the miscarried baby. I do watch the Hoarding shows and the clutter ones, BBC America had How clean is your house? They were 2 British ladies, and they layed into the slobs, about being dirty and unclean, etc. I loved watching them. I also watched Clean House. These shows keep you real honest. After watching them or sometimes when they are on, I will get off my butt and go and wash the dishes. I let them pile up, for about 2-3 days(there is only me in the house) or when I run out of clean cups.
As for the Amish, I live in Illinois, and I respect them, It makes me angry when, Assholes pick on these simple people, who are minding their own business and some Ass-hole locals pick on them for being different. Leave them alone!
As for this Anonymous shit stirrer, ARE YOU ON DRUGS? Did you even read what you wrote, do you even follow your own logic? I feel sorry for you it you do.
Auntie Ann: some are just LAZY! There was one family inwhich the father ruled the house. THe wife went along with him, the 2 very adult children 38 & 39, were lazy as sin, worked part-time jobs, and did what daddy said. The city in which they lived, told them to clean up or get evicted, the father told them to take a flying leap, this was his house and land and his wife and his children. They were in their early 60's. Total PIGS! Too lazy to walk it to the trash, throw it on the floor, let someone else pick it up. Lazy!

I haven't posted here in a while, busy with real life. My j&k+8 experience, older dd came home from college, talking about this great show we had to watch with these cute kids. So dh and I say down to watch and saw a j&k interview. My wonderful patient dh who tolerates my survivor, amazing race, and ooh did I mention big brother? fascination - he watched about two minutes of k berating j, then told us to turn off the TV. He told dd if she ever talked to any boyfriend or husband like that, he would hope they would leave her! He was truly aghast at the way k talked to j. He told dd if any date, woman talked to him like that, it would be the last time she ever talked to him. dh and I have been married almost 30 years. We really get along well most of the time, and when we argue it is a calm, rational, respectful argument. I had never seen him have such a strong reaction to anything on TV.

Again, I feel compelled to say this: grifting these little freebies is NOT going to re-ignite her career in ignominy (at least the one that made her money). It is NOT going to pay the mortgage or any of her other numerous considerable bills.

It's really sad and pathetic, that's all it is. She's definitely fishing, and I doubt 1000% that she actually "sewed" any sock. She wanted to see. She saw that she could include different manufacturers in her tweets and get coffee, creamer and a coffee maker. So she wanted to see if maybe this would work, too. And apparently it did.

This woman has no shame, no self-respect whatsoever. This should be broadcast all over the internet, if it's true. What is this teaching the children? That you just ask, say you're one of the Gosselin kids, and immediately everything will fall into your lap? Hey, if momma did it, then it's okay! Gimme, gimme, gimme!

Kate has the funds to afford nannies, house cleaners, sitters, outside maintenance staff, tanning, NYC haircuts, limo rides, and whatever SHE wants, but won't buy socks for her kids - she has to have a tweetie do her dirty work for her? What's next? Gym and dance lessons, free summer camp?

Good gosh, Kate...think of the kids and how embarrassed they will be if their classmates find out about this!

I wish she'd move out of the area. Most of us are a hard-working people with a strong work ethic. Get a job and stop this darn grifting!

Right now I am heading out to WalMart before the snow starts to stick on the roads, and I am buying a substantial amount of kid's socks in all sizes to donate to our local clothing bank where I have volunteered and served on a social services board for many years. If anything, this latest grifting scheme of Kate's will have done some good for quite a few needy kids, in an indirect way.

I don't know why she and her fan(atics) are still able to shock and sicken me. I'll keep telling myself that the Universe has a way of balancing these things out and maybe the fact that she has no media career is payback for the utterly selfish things she does.

I do wonder if her children are going to be teased about this and all the other latest grifts. It must be horrible for them if they're teased about their mother. All it would take is one parent speaking to another parent about it and having a child overhear them. I hate to even think about that.

readerlady said...

I've mended sox on occasion. My cat's favorite game is pounce on feet, and she occasionally snags my sox and puts a hole in them (the top part, not the foot). I'll mend them so they don't unravel and ruin the foot if they are newish (apologizing for using a Kate-ism) or favorites. I never mend the foot part, though. I'm not very good with a needle, and I don't want blisters.

I can't believe someone grifted sox for Kate's kids! This is just absolutely unbelievable and disgusting! There are so many shelters/schools/organizations that would love to have new sox to hand out to clients and this POS who lives in a $M+ home gets free ones for her kids??!!

AA 57 -- ITA that there is too much pressure on some kids to be number 1 in everything. There's no credit for doing one's best, or for accomplishing amazing things if one isn't viewed as a "winner". Reminds me of the, I think, 2002 Olympics. Michelle Kwan was expected to win the gold medal in figure skating and instead won a silver. A lot of people in the media got on her about it and her response was "I didn't lose the gold, I won the silver". I thought that was very wise and classy of her.

I agree, Audible Click. I don't know why I continue to be surprised, either.

Before I get my bits in a twist over this latest sock grifting, can anyone confirm that UA is indeed sending her merchandise? Dallas Lady - Thank you for putting things in perspective. You are right that her receiving these freebies will do nothing for her except provide her with more stuff to not appreciate and, at some point, complain about or discard. The backpacks! Didn't she say that they were using the same backpacks, and bingo, somebody went to Kohl's and said that backpacks were at customer service? I wondered whatever happened with that.
Last I remember is that Kate didn't pick them up, so the buyer sent her gift cards instead.

I just find it highly suspicious that this linda foerrester person suddenly showed up after not tweeting for 5 months. Last time was when she tweeted about the Ipads.

At that time, didn't Kate say that she didn't get anything from her and that she had no idea who she was?

It just seems strange that Kate tweets about darning socks, and linda shows up. I wonder if she is just playing a joke on Kate, and waiting to see what Kate's reaction will be.

AuntieAnn, you are so right about Kate having the grifting down to a science. I was thinking the exact same thing. She is a sly, conniving one, she is. If ever presented with how shameful her grifting is, she will coyly say that she never asks anyone to send her things, that she is just tweeting about things happening in her life. We all know it is a bunch of bull-hockey. She knows full well that her obsessed "children of the corn" followers will jump through hoops to give her things and hopefully get her attention. It is very, very creepy.

Commenting on Dance Moms.

I agree w/a poster upthread about the work and dedication children put in to to be the best in sports. I clump dancing with sports. These dancers are not the typical Saturday morning lession students. They are high-level performers. Its no different than a basketball player shooting 100 hoops in a row to get in the 95-96% success rate. Practice, practice, practice. And that means other activities fall by the wayside. These dancers have learned to to (mostly) tune out their out-of-control mothers and concentrate on what Abby is saying. Granted Abby is abrasive. But how many times have football players heard "walk it off" by the coach when they are injured. Or had their coach scream in their face for a minor infraction.

To be the best at any sport a dancer/player endures what the coach gives them...good and bad. What is good is that these dancers are living at home instead of like gymnasts who leave home and life with their coach in another state.

To sum up, I don't like Abby's methods but she gets the performance from the dancer. And at the level these dancers are performing this is what they have to put up with.

Quite possibly this is true. Didn't she tweet though, and ask if anyone could help? She's the ipad lady. Regardless of who is donating these things, it's the endless griting and ACCEPTING of the freebies that is so aggravating! She should make it quite clear that she is not accepting gifts from anyone, and that if anyone wants to give something, they should donate to the charity of their choice.

She has yet to do this, and I don't think that anyone should hold their breath in anticipation.

So she has still been around, and she only follows Kate. The whole thing is just weird.

Linda F. is not a non-fan. She sent her ipads in the past, unless that whole thing was a ruse. Kate claimed she didn't know her, but "Linda" said that she used another name on the bill of lading.

However, is it possible that someone set up an account with that same name, bent on pulling a fast one this time? Didn't she ask what sizes the kids wear? Unless Kate tweeted her back, how would she know, unless she told the company to sent out generic sizes that would fit kids that age.

How can anybody get through life with having things handed to you? I mean, I know that it's possible but with the way things are going, Kate's kids might not even think they need to work because they are Gosselins.

I can hear it now, down the road, teacher asks them to do something that they dislike or work with somebody and I hear, "But, do you know who I am? I don't have to do anything. That's why I have servants! I'm a Gosselin! You know, famous?"

All she's doing by begging/grifting whatever for things, I think Kate should step back and learn to appreciate the things she's been given not try and acquire more.

I also think it's possible that Kate is past the point of caring what she asks for just as long as someone is foolish enough to see that she gets it. Such as the Goldfish Crackers, the socks. I mean those things surely she could afford for herself. She's not living on welfare sheeple. She doesn't actually NEED your help to support her kids. It is just that Kate has had her butt cushioned for so long by TLC she wants to see who is dumb enough to send her things.

Go for it, be the fool, I don't have to pity you. The day people stop sending Kate stuff, such as the Juicy-Juice thing she is going to be in a real world of hurt. She does not even know what it's like to earn a real paycheck. Reality/scripted life became the easiest way that is why she quite nursing because she said it, "It was at that point, it became her main income," it was just easier.

@AuntieAnn, I think people end up in this situation of hoarding, or unable to clean themselves out because things add up. People tell themselves, "Oh, I'll get to it later." You know, get to the laundry later, take the trash out later. By the time the realize they've put things off I think it's overwhelming. Like when kids make a mess of their room and you tell them go clean, by that point it's so out of control it seems helpless.

Re Linda Foerrester, I don't think she was trying to get free stuff from UA, it sounded like she placed an order and paid for it.

But something is hinky here with this Twitterer. This is indeed the iPad woman from months back. Kate blew her off on Twitter (said she hadn't received anything and didn't know her), and Linda left in a huff, saying some not-nice things about Ms. G. Whether or not what transpired in that situation was in fact true (that she did send the iPads), her returning in this sock scenario doesn't seem kosher to me. I think someone is having some fun. Or if there is some other motive, I can't fathom what it might be.

I remember in the pool party episode one of the boys was showing something to another kid and he said (not an exact quote)...if you want to know how to do something right just ask the Gosselins.

It struck me odd at the time that he would not say just ask me but referred to himself as "the Gosselins". This is what Kate is teaching them. They are the Gosselins, they are special and they are better than everyone else. I'm afraid that the kids will end up with entitlement issues with her as their mother.

1) Re: Darning socks - Kate doesn't darn socks, she likely did sew them. Probably lined the edges of the whole and whipstitched a seam.

2) Internet medical advice - We've had this conversation before. Unfortunately, there are many boards people go to for medical advice because they can't afford to seea doctor. What I have seen happen is one or two people say "Go see a doctor" and 100+ others diagnose based on their own conditions.

I'm not saying don't go to reputable sites like Kaiser or MayoClinic, etc. Just take what you learn there and then run it past your doctor instead of self-diagnosing.

I call our Advice Nurse with questions and about 70-80% of the time she says to come in. I also email my doctor, usually to give him a heads up and to see if he wants us to come in. 80-90% of the time he says what I'm doing is just fine and to come in if things don't improve.

If this running fan is hurting, I would advise her to take anti-inflammatories and call her doctor before doing any more running, but that's just my momsense talking.

3) Sock grifting - Oh please, Kate. I buy my kids Target socks and, because a 10 pack runs around $8-10, I just buy then new socks when needed and use the holy ones for dusting.

Having had the privilege of working in the past with some very gifted, very talented, and very driven young athletes (sorry if that sounds like a humblebrag), it would have been unconscionable to subject them to filming a reality show on top of the physical demands and pressures they already faced.

I can't begin to imagine the added stress they would have felt if they had had TV cameras in their faces capturing their every move during their many hours of difficult training. Add to that the contrived drama and manipulated storylines that are a mainstay of reality TV, and you have a recipe for disaster.

A tremendous part of being successful (in athletics and all areas of life) is the ability to focus completely and tune out the extraneous noise (ahem, crazed parents, for example) that gets in the way of excelling at something. It doesn't matter if it's football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, tennis, golf, dancing, singing, acting, chess, debating or playing tiddly-winks. Anything that adds unnecessary stress or pressure, or competes for attention, will cause serious problems.

I know a lot of people believe that filming these young girls will have little to no impact on their lives or their destinies. I completely disagree. I believe with all my heart that filming them is nothing but detrimental and will, in fact, serve to hinder their development.

If a child's gifts are not nurtured and celebrated with positivity along with the hard work, they will never stay with an activity long enough to fulfill their dreams. Even under the best of circumstances, life and weariness have a habit of revising commitment and dreams.

If these young girls on Dance Moms are made to believe that their appearance on a reality show will somehow pave the way for future success, then they are being set up for failure, and will be sorely disappointed.

Networks/production companies/people that prey upon (and get rich from) children on reality shows are paving the way for a lot of future despair.

Those who have never experienced the disease I don't think can ever really understand. I saw a documentary on it and a teenage girl started crying because the doctor was going to throw away her gum wrapper. Her reasoning was what would she or a friend do if they needed to take their gum out. It didn't matter that she had tons of other gum wrappers.

Fidosmommy: I use to watch Say, yes to the dress, but after the Royal wedding of William & Kate, I stopped. Because, they had the guy on I think it was the View, and someone asked why, all the Wedding gowns are sleeveless. And his answer was, cause the Bride needs to have full movement, with her arms, and offered a little shawl or a little sleeve thing for cover up. I found that to be a lame excuse. Geez, what did our moms do years ago. For those women, myself included, that have somewhat fat-large upper arms, who would not be caught dead or alive in sleeveless. Most of the gowns look alike, there is what about 5 basic styles. I also was watching during the wedding, and they were showing what type of gown they thought Kate was going to wear, they were not even close. I've yet to see them do a show on gowns with sleeves(I view for a couple of minutes), everything is sleeveless.
As for the socks thing, if you need socks in a pinch, go to the Dollar store, you can get a pair for a buck. Has anyone notice, Kate has never shopped at Walmart? Only Target, Giant Foods, Whole Foods, Stridewright Shoes, Toys-R-us. I've never heard her mention any other, maybe a few odd ones, how can she justify, being a savy shopper? No mention of Sears, Macys, Walmart, Kmart, Michaels, Jo-ann fabrics, Dollar stores, Walgreens, JC Penny etc., that Big department store in PA? But Kate shops at stores online I've never heard of, the coupons @ CC are for these expensive stores I've never heard of.(or most the stores). Kate is a walking contradiction: she tells the world she is just like us, but yet, calls us mediocre and buys expensive brand names. But also grifts off these companies (I think she is tryin to become a spokes person for them, Kate your too late with that). Kate could have nabbed that years ago, she could have build an empire, but every golden platter that came her way she threw it in a pile for later. Well Kate later is here, the golden platters, have changed to regular metal and rusted. Nobody wants them or you.
I do hope the surprise secret guest host on friday, Wendy Williams show is not Kate.

Great input about experience with coaches etc. in light of the bully Abbey on Dance Moms.
I've never watched the show, but know who she is. I do not in any way want to sound indelicate, but is Abbey and instructor? A coach? A routine maker?
I ask because I took dance lessons for a few years as a kid (great teachers) and well, they looked a bit different than Abbey.
I'm wondering how Abbey can effectively show the girls a routine when she is such a large woman who frankly doesn't look athletic at all.
When I was in ballet and tap/jazz, my instructors taught through demonstration... just wondering and don't mean to offend.
Thanks.

To me I think there are two separate and distinct issues here with Dance Moms. One is the coaching issue, whether a coach like this is detrimental to kids (I am in the camp that says yes, it is, and that there are plenty of other kinder more respectful coaching styles that still produce great results). I can only speak for high school sports where we had several very kind coaches--and several championship teams.

The other is the issue that personally interests me more--regardless the coaching style, is it exploitive to film children like this, undergoing such intense pressures? Of course I believe it is.

......Kate hasn't replied to the grifting yet. I'm going to wait to see her reaction first.

I agree. Anyone can sue. A case can be made of anything. And a judge is obligated to consider every lawsuit in front of him. Whether at the end of his/her consideration they throw it out is another matter, but the fact remains a suit was filed and Kate would have to deal with it.

It's not so much the saying take an IB, it's the issue of someone posing as a nurse, knowing someone is describing would COULD be a serious injury (pain that kills) then giving them instructions to not only take IB, but to get back out there and run. I wouldn't mess around with dispensing advice like that, especially if I were someone proclaiming to be a nurse.

Kate has done a lot of things that she might not want to mess around with. Maybe no one will ever sue her. Except, LaFair did. And won. People have sued her over her shenanigans and I don't think it's over.

Tucker's Mom, they have showed her teaching routines and she uses dance terms to tell them what to do. I am woefully ignorant about dance terms, but it's something like okay three turns here, spin once, chasse to the left, things like that. She she doesn't have to visually instruct them. I don't think there's any dispute Abbey and her kids are good, they showed her last night teaching an entire dance in just 30 minutes.

Abbey also has a 20-something athletic looking assistant who is often there but not usually saying much to the cameras. She seems pretty hands on.

The thing I don't get about this coaching style is the bullying and disrespect. But we want our kids to be respectful and not bully in school, nor do we want them to grow up and become a boss or a coworker who bullies and is disrespectful.

I don't understand why adults (Kate is one of them) think that it's fine to use methods on kids that have absolutely no basis in what will be socially acceptable in the real world. A kids' world IS the real world, right now. Might as well start treating them respectfully now.

And that aside, why anyone in their right mind would think that it is okay to tell someone to run through their injuries without knowing any more information than JUST that, truly astounds me. Kate never fails to shock and awe.

It's like if someone said to you their neck hurts, and that's all they told you. ANd you told them oh go take IB and get some rest. Next thing you know they're dead in the hospital from meningitis. Oops, guess you needed more information.

Kate simply did not know enough about this to even begin to dispense advice.

Tucker's Mom - I used to dance competitively as a teen and the owner of the dance school and her daughter who helped run it were both women of size. The mother have mobility issues and usually had a student teacher demonstrate while the owner came up with the choreography. The daughter was large and very muscular. She had gained quite a bit of weight after her first pregnancy and God bless her, even though she was active she had bad eating habits and never quite lost the extra weight. She was able to dance, but not as well as some of the slimmer teachers.

That school was really wonderful. Some of the students had eating disorders, but by and large that's the sad truth of dance culture. We were never pressured to be thin by our teachers. Our teachers weren't stick thin pro-ballerina types. They looked like real women who, while very fit, were not bony or looked like they had psychological issues around food.

I think the eating disorders had more to do with peer pressure and adolescent girls who already had a competitive spirit taking things too far.

At most she has talked about a girl looking too young or old tall/short but that's not anything that can be fixed except with time.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Oh and she doesn't talk about food and what they should eat. Actually as a treat she sometimes takes them out for ice cream and none of the girls look uncomfortable digging in in front of her.

For that I admire her, because this is a tough industry where weight is pardon the pun, huge.

LOL Tucker who is that?

Twyla Tharp is an American dancer and choreographer. Love her work and thinking about seeing her Broadway musical, Come Fly Away, at the Kennedy Center.
Love me some Sinatra!

OMG they released the poor social worker's phone calls about the Powell boys.

She was begging police to come out just before the explosion, and the 911 operator was telling her they have to respond to life threatening emergencies first.

The social worker was like: THIS IS LIFE THREATENING I THINK.

SO awful.

Tucker's Mom said...

I do pray for the social worker in the Powell case. I hope that she can regroup and move forward with her life and be free of any blame.
Even the grandparents seemed to hold no ill will towards the broken system. At least for now...

Re: Dance Moms.

You're right, Admin, that Abby doesn't say anything about weight or who is prettiest although she did mention Kendall was a cute girl and fit right in- (and she did, as opposed to Peyton IMO) but... I wonder and maybe this was discussed... why the girls always look so fancy and made-up, big earrings, elaborate hairstyles, even for practice. It made me think perhaps Abby does put emphasis on appearance, idk...

Re: nurses' responsibility- I agree totally that what Kate did was wrong, although it sounds seemingly insignificant. Well, yes, people can die or get seriously ill from being talked out of going to the dr or hospital, or taking the wrong advice. Look at Natasha Richardson RIP.
Our Board was very strict- even off-duty you were still an RN- you could not give advice or do things like portray a nurse on a commercial who dispenses advice for a product, for example.
You could be sued or disciplined by the Board if found out.It is a little more lenient here with regard to the board but seems to be more lawsuits filed.

Old socks thin out, lose their elasticity (like Kate's face and neck) and so why darn them if you don't have to?

katie, you get LOL of the day from me!

Auntie Ann, I think Dance Moms is on Slice up here.

Fahnette, I totally agree #67

I love watching Hoarders. Sad to say it, but it's true.
Lookin back, I think my grandma was a 'borderline' hoarder. You would have to move piles of paper to clear a spot at the table. She didn't have bugs or rodents, and no piles of trash, or goat paths to walk through - but she was way more than just messy. Back then no one had really heard of hoarding. She died when I was 21 and my dad and step-mom cleaned her house out. It was a major job. She had lots of valuables and antiques - but she also had stacks of empty egg cartons in the basement. As my dad ages, he is in his 70s, he gets messier and messier...I hope my step-mom keeps him in line!

To counteract kHate's madness and "griftiness" I think I will have to buy some socks and donate them to the homeless shelter.

Oh I forgot to mention Hoards makes me want to clean too lol.

I despise cleaning so I will actually watch that to get me going.

If Kate is gifting socks for her children, I can't help but wonder what condition her towels and bed sheets are in? I remember when they lived in the old house, they shot a scene in the bedroom, the children were supposed to be napping. I noticed that some of the beds did not have sheets on them, just a blanket. Anyone else remember this?

Their bedrooms looked...sad.

CS: Yes! Their rooms were often messy and beds unmade- Kate even said she never makes hers. Recently she said she only changes sheets and towels I think every 2 weeks?? Gross. The Roloffs had no sheets either?????

Admin: like I said, keeps me honest. I watch that and want to clean something, organize something, get rid stuff. Cause, I don't want to end up like them. It's very easy to say later, I'll keep it and move it later, I'll save it for someone. (I do that and then forget where, I put it, then find it later, while looking for something else) That black hole that everyone has in their house. That one that was on recently I almost got sick watching it, and the bugs, I went and took a shower. Geez, when they were talking about bedbugs a while ago, (I traveled a lot a couple of years ago)I went right to my bedroom and checked my mattress, headboard, then couch cushions, I went on a cleaning craze, after going to vet and he found one flea(someone who was there before me, their dog was infested)on my dog, found none in my home. No bedbugs either. Thank God!

Regarding no sheets...

I see that quite a bit on TV and have wondered is that normal and I am weird because I always have sheets on my bed? My whole family uses sheets and my inlaws too - so I don't know.
I am a sheets person!! But I admit I hate top sheets.

anger issues kate said...

Bearswife: it's just laziness on their part. No sheets mean: no time wasted on washing extra things. I mean what is the purpose of sheets then? To keep the mattress clean? Mattresses are expensive, do these people plan on getting rid of them in say in 3 years or less, cause they are so dirty an smelly. It easier to wash a sheet than to wash a mattress, every week. It's called maintenance. One can spray the mattress, with disinfectant every week or month or when someone was sick, to kill any germs. My mother use to say no sheets, they were slobs. I wash my blankets every year, or when the lighter ones stink(they get washed more often), just as my winter coats and jackets, gloves etc, get washed and put away. If you don't your shedded dead cells attracts bugs.

Wow Admin, I apologize... I thought you were kidding about hannahssocks.org. I feel like an ass now, I just looked it up...thought it was a poke at Kate. I am now crawling under the table.

Bearswife - thanks. I forgot about Slice. I usually avoid it like TLC (or the plague).

I can't fathom a bed without a mattress pad, fitted sheet, top sheet, blanket (s) or duvet, pillow cases, shams, maybe some accent pillows...

@Tucker's Mom, you mind if I asked what you mean by their bedrooms looked sad?

I loves my nice clean sheets. And maybe because, I admit, I'm weird I wash my sheets twice a week. Nothing like sliding into clean sheets at the end of the day! I can go, "Ahhhh..." It's okay, I like being weird!

I think Hoarders motivates a lot of people to clean their house. To me I feel like I'm actually in the house and I feel like I have dirt crawling on me from just watching it. Got to clean. I even vacuumed today from people just talking about the show.

Those football picks, you can get them at Party city. No push for Michaels or Hobbylobby(it's usually the places moms goes for craft stuff,

Anger - she said on her Menu Monday that she got the picks at Michaels:

"I made really simple fruit fruit skewers using the football tooth picks I found at Michaels. I made a simple fruit dip to go with it"

Re: Kate's grifting, here's a question for Coupon Cabin or even Kate herself. If she is such a wonderful couponer, why can't she get the necessary items for kids for free or close to free with her wonderous couponing ability. I belong to several coupon forums and websites. People get free items all the time with the right coupon stratedgy. Why isn't Kate using her "skills" to get free stuff rather than grifting from companies? Oh, yeah, I forgot couponing takes time, effort and orrrganization (I had roll the "o" and the "r's" the way Kate does.).

HollyMo said...

Anger Issues, thanks for validating me! lol
I wash my sheets about every 2 weeks and my mattress pad and comforter about once a month. We just bought a new mattress last fall and it has a 10 year warranty - but only if it has no stains. Crazy right?! It's an awesome mattress but I am so anal about keeping it clean.

They sleep on the mattress without a pad or sheets? I never heard of that! I like my clean sheets too much to ever be without them. Blankets and comforters get washed at least once a week.

My recollection is that the bedrooms were a bit barren, just had no personality or desire to personalize the rooms for the boys or girls.
Totally with you on the sheets too. Especially with 3 dogs!

When will sheeple see that this woman with a "purse full of bills she cannot pay"
1. Has expensive cars ("used" Audi and Mercedes Van)
2. Tans and gets mani-pedis weekly
3. Employs a babysitter
4. Employs a bodyguard
5. Pays for private school x 8
6. Spends $750 every 2-3 weeks on groceries
7. Has an extensive shoe collection
8. Pays for botox, facial peels, fillers, breast implants
9. Employs a publicist
10. Owns a house that was purchased for 1.2 million dollars
11. Is spending money like crazy on herself while unemployed - yet darns socks???
12. Can afford enough Xmas gifts that require WEEKS of wrapping
13. Can afford pool and lawn maintenance
14. Has the ability to travel on a whim with nary a care about leaving kids with a sitter for a week. (how can she afford that?)
15. Can afford to pay all her speeding tickets and probable insurance increase.
16. Did not have to pay the cost of raising her own children for the last 7 years. Free healthcare, free nurse, free diapers, free car, free home makeover, free haircuts, free clothes, free juice, free food, free gift cards and that was BEFORE TLC came in and started paying all her bills (while paying her millions) and suppling her with any desire her grubby self desired. Ski trips, Alaska trips, Austrilia/New Zealand trips, San Diego spa trips, Beach house vacations, free disney trips, free solar panels, free kitchen remodel, free stove, free washer/dryer..I can go on and on
AND FINALLY
THIS "WOMAN" HAS BEEN GIVEN MORE IN LIFE THAN MOST WILL EVER HAVE...YET GRIFTS FOR MORE WHILE NEVER EVER GIVING BACK - USING THE EXCUSE SHE HAS 8 KIDS TO SUPPORT. sHE SHOULD BE SO EMBARRASSED! She truly has no shame. She is so torn between wanting to be seen as rich and successful / and being a coupon clipping, poor single mom of 8. Which is it Kate? Are you a successful reality tv star and best selling author? or one step up above a street corner panderer with a tin cup?

and sheeple..feeling sorry for kate and defending her grifts are why u are referred to as sheep. You contradict yourselves. You say she is a strong, self made woman who has made a successful life for her kids and she deserves all her riches...then you turn around and cry that the poor woman needs socks? SO what is it you admire Sheep? her ability to make millions based on her "talent", or the fact that she is unemployed and begging for the handouts that TLC no longer provides? How can she be both? The princess AND the pauper??????

Thanks Tucker's Mom.

I remember my bedroom growing up was painted, but that I never had anything on my walls. My dad didn't holes in the walls he said and my mom grew up in a military family so they had blank walls.

But now? I never knew walls could talk! You put things on them and you don't feel like you're living in four walls you're living in your space.

I've got two cats so I have to wash the sheets more. Fur just gets all over everything.

Just catching up - focusing on the kid's socks.

Driving home from work I listened to a story on NPR about the Detroit public schools. One woman had 4 children - 3 school aged: all 3 needed glasses AND clothes; another mom was living in a motel with 4 school aged children and twin 2 mo-olds (6 count 'em 6) and couldn't figure out how to get the 4 to school on a public bus and has not been able to thus far.

Then I read that KG needs SOCKS her kids -?

Well alrighty then. Count me out. My charity will continue to go elsewhere.

Call me crazy too. I wash our sheets and blankets twice a week. I must be certifiable, I wash the dogs bedding once a week. I was raised with six brothers and sisters and this is what we were taught by our Mom. We never used a towel twice and any socks that had holes in them were thrown away and replaced. That's another thing that drives me crazy, dirty socks. When my daughter comes home from camp I throw all of her socks away. No amount of bleach or Oxiclean would ever get them white.
I am so embarrassed for the Gosselin children. They attend a private school and their Mother is gifting socks for them.
